My friend wrote fanfic all the time. Small little tidbits of their thoughts about dean x reader and such. Do I like dean x readers? No not exactly. He isn't my cup of tea romance wise, but I still liked and commented on ALL of their fics. Now that my friend has taken their life due to their abusive parents, i feel like commenting on their old work is the only way I can talk to them.

I found evidence suggesting that support from readers was one of the reasons they prolonged their life. Talking about how it made their week and feel cared about.

You never know how much a comment can mean to someone.

Before anyone asks I will not be giving out their fics because they'd constantly ask me to delete all their fics but I could never. They always said their writing was garbage but I disagree. So while I wont delete their legacy, I will try to keep it hushed to just their friends and supporters. And no, theres nothing I could have done, we were children an entire ocean apart. That is the harsh reality of long distance friends...

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
