2nd watch, a few new details:
On the first watch, I was like "of course Owen couldn't go with Maddy the first time, her mom had cancer :(". But this time I caught that Maddy went missing "a few weeks" after Owen's mom died. Owen had nothing left to stay for. Maddy probably waited around for those extra weeks, just in case Owen had a change of heart. And yet,
The first time we see the dress flashback, it's through what seems like a relatively objective perspective. The second time we see it (as they walk to the grave), the memory has taken on the vhs-fuzz and aspect ratio of the pink opaque tapes. The real becomes unreal, an impossible fantasy, "kid stuff"
Happened to see a captioned screening this time, and the Tara from the streaming version is described as "Fake Tara."
The tv guide page Owen finds by the electrical field is for "season 6, episode 1: Escape from the Midnight Realm"
Mr. Melancholy and Maddy's ex friend who accused them of dykery ("like a secret agent sent to ruin my life") were the same actor
All the school hallway motivational posters are thematically relevant, but this time I caught the "the only easy day is yesterday" and "courage: without it, no other virtues matter" ones
You can see the emotional shifts between Owen and Narrator Owen in real time (ie, Owen looking distraught as the firefighters surround Maddy's tv, then dropping the expression and looking coolly into the camera as she starts to narrate again)
There's an interesting recurring thing where audio from the near "future" plays over footage from the "past." ie, we hear Maddy's planetarium monologue, while we watch Owen still walking to the school to meet them. Something about time not working right, something about Owen playing back memories that already happened, something about inevitability and walking down a path with a fixed ending
Void High School, or VHS

Hiii I wanted to ask if you could do a metalhead fem x mike schmidt in a relationship but she is really sweet and mike didn't expert that when they started dating (sorry if there are any spelling errors english isn't my first language)
Hii so about this i might put my favorite band but you guys will probably hate it sorry o/(╥ᆺ╥)\o anyways this is time skipped after the pizzeria thing so mike has better life here!
Pairings - Mike Schmidt ft. Metalhead!Reader
Abby clings to you as you are with her on the field trip to family day farm as both you are picking fruits. "Can i go to my friends over there?" abby asked as she looked up to you as you nodded on agreement telling her to be careful.
As on the background there are fathers who are with their kid talking on the background, "Yeah i heard that's only her sister." That one creepy dad said as his friends agreed with his delusion.
"Careful she might bite" The other one said as they laugh out loud making you look at them as if you will bite them as they stopped laughing.
Mike gave his nod on the lady guard as he knows her for a bit long time from constantly dropping abby off the school. As he easily saw you as he sneakily walked on your back, "Hey miss can you name five type o negative songs?" mike asked as you turned around sassily facing him as he chuckled sitting down beside you.
"i bought you your favorite flowers darling. I'm sorry i was late." He excused as he kissed you on your head before sitting down, "It's fine i know you're a busy man now." you smiled at him.
"Yeah she's a really cool woman. I sometimes call her mom cause she is cool." abby show off said as she was playing with the toys you bought her just yesterday because it's shopping day, "Really? I wish i had someone like her!" her friends bickered as they look at her mom gagging over the thought of her white boring mom.
"Darling it's already time to eat." You said as they were surprised seeing you beside them as abby took your hands walking happily with you, "I'm so inlove with her.." one of abby's friend said kicking over his feets.
"Hey abs did you enjoy playing today?" Mike asked as abby sat between you and mike, "Yeah even though it didn't start yet, can you please help us pick fruits?" abby asked as she is starting to chug down the food that mike had just bought as you hold her back.
"Hmm yeah sure why not??" Mike said as both of you enjoyed the day taking abby on a family day like her own parents.
It was already time to go home as expected abby became a little bit sassy as she was already tired and sleepy so you hugged her on the back seat so she will have a support as mike played a song of one of the bands you like same goes abby's.
Abby is really new to your taste in music and she was really amazed, after hearing all your favorite songs it surprisingly calms her down on this kind of episodes. So mike bought cd music's so abby can play music on her own for sometimes.

I saw a post yesterday or the day before where someone was saying that this side of fic world was quiet and there was not much to read. It made me sadddd because there are so many talented writers still blogging away, and so I decided to make a list of recs with recent stuff I've enjoyed. I have a very small page and not much reach, but hopefully a few of you can find a couple new ones here to sink your teeth into.
If you are a friend of mine and I missed you on this list, pls know that I'm a fan of edibles and I forget things. But I will probably do a couple of these.
I'm not going to organize them into groups, because these are all good regardless of the main.
(in no particular order)
Pick up, will you? - @somnambulic-thing
rockstar!Eddie in this one and Somna is such a creative genius, you will thank me if you are able to go through their Masterlist. One of the more underrated creatives on this app, everything they put out is gold.
As Above, So Below -@jo-harrington
Kas!Eddie for the vampire/monsterfuckers out there. This story is so rich, Jo is one of those fic writers that make me say out loud: Wait, we get this for FREE?? Highly recommend.
Wasted Years - @neonghostlights
rockstar!Eddie and 90's au! Bee is one of those fic writers that make you want to consume everything they put out so fast because they are all SO good. Plus, she's just genuinely an amazing person and deserves to be supported/protected at all costs.
Exile in Guyville - @chestylarouxx
90s au Eddie, and let me tell you that I am not one of those who waits around for a fic to warm up or get good---this story will grab you right from the start and literally transport you to the 90's. Plus, Eddie is soooo hot in this. Please, you will love it.
WAIT HOLD ON LET ME TALK ABOUT GATOR TILLMAN FOR A SECOND
Joe Keery is about to be in the next season of Fargo as Gator Tillman and @courtingchaos did their own breathtaking spin on him. The creativity is out the roof, y'all. @usedtobecooler also gifted us with some Gator content that had me on my knees the other day. These are the only two I know of, but let me know if there are others so I can check them out!
S.J. - @lesservillain
Less just decided to drop the most beautiful story on us last night as I was about to go to sleep 😭 Based on the most wonderful Black Mirror episode ever, the way she made this her own is just breathtaking and sad in the best way.
Saccahrine - @pepsimunson
The rockstar!Eddie smut that you've been dreaming of, for real. This is one of those fics with a lot of parts already published, so you can really sink in an enjoy.
all of Drac's Sapphic Summer - @dr-aculaaa
really tho, the creativity and work she has put into these beautiful fics is insane. The Robin Buckley Y2K one is my favorite so far...it will give you the best nostalgia tingles. Seriously, you will fall in love with these.
Sea Stars and Sunshine - @imjuststeddietrashatthispoint
Steve Harrington Summer Love🫠 Another win for this writer, I love everything they create. This story will taste like summer and sand on your tongue as you read it, for real. All the beach vacation vibes...it honestly feels like a warm hug from Steve, chest hair and all.
There are also a handful of popular creators on here writing their hearts out for us all on literally a daily basis, and if you ever have any fic recs, please send them to me!

Alright if I'm gonna look like a loon (moon ref) about some Aaravos ideas then at least I'm not alone now, LESSGO
Before we get confirmation on the actual title of 605, I wanna share the idea that I haven't been able to shake since "Moonless Night" became a possibility. Because let me tell you, when someone found those words, my gut dropped down a black hole and I wasn't sure why.
I mean, I can kind of guess why. It's the middle episode of the season. Multiple people have said it has wrecked them just to work with it. On that detail alone, I think we can guess who wrote it. And Devon's episodes always hurt me the most (affectionate)!
Why is the concept of a Moonless Night so scary? Lots of reasons come to mind this late in the show. The moon is the primal source for several characters in the show. It's a source of light and normalcy at night. And nights without moonlight are extremely dark. We all know this deep in our DNA already.
We could get Ruthari angst - Runaan suffering without the moon in his coin, trapped in darkness. Ethari suffering without Runaan and the hope and love he brought to his life.
Maybe it's Rayla struggling during a new moon, unable to do her usual moon powers in a clutch moment.
Maybe it's about the stars themselves being all the light that is, and how that's really not much and things are dark and powerful without the balance of other arcanums.
Maybe it's some or all of these.
But here's the thought that won't let me go: Fayla.
From what we think we know, Callum and Rayla get to the Starscraper in episode 4. We've seen images on promotional material, and etc.
But what's troubling me is the bits we got from NYCC attendants last fall, about how in the first episode the pearl is mysteriously empty, and Aaravos is somehow missing from it.
Where has he gone? Is he in Callum somehow? Is he doing things to his brain while he's awake, instead of giving him weird dreams?
And then there's the new twitter podcast account, Banter Lodge, posting a new Dear Callum letter yesterday.
No idea if this is fan-made or a sneak peek yet. But this is what tipped me into "holy shit" territory, because consider this with me for a second:
This letter makes it look like Rayla didn't go with Callum somewhere.
What if that somewhere is the Starscraper.
What if Callum gets all the way there and does all the things he does, and he doesn't realize until he's in the middle of the starry darkness that Rayla was never with him at all, and he has no moon at his side.
Fayla. Fake Rayla.
If his companion, all along, is Aaravos in Rayla's guise, nudging him toward wherever he wants Callum to go.
If he cannot outmatch Callum's love and trust for Rayla, he will simply shift the narrative and become that trusted source. Then, he thinks, Callum will do whatever he wants.
Sleep tight.
#tdp meta#tdp spoilers#tdp speculation#tdp#the dragon prince#this is the worst thing i can think of so far but damn it's horrifying#moonless night#i'm a huge sucker for shows and episodes that play with identity#sci fi shows where everyone is someone else for one episode#or the whole dollhouse show#mmm the good stuff#i've long hoped for aaravos to get really fucky with reality and this would do it

DANCE MARATHON EPISODE-PART 3
So I had seen this Charity Dance Marathon gimmick on an episode of the Golden Girls (an episode which aired in 1987) and I feel as if I’ve seen it on other shows as well. (fun fact I just learned this week: Gilmore Girls and Golden Girls both shared at least one writer). Were these ever real things or is this just a gimmick made up for sitcoms? Are there real people out there shaking their moneymakers til they drop? Who can actually dance for 24 hours with only minimal breaks? It seems incredibly uncomfortable. See also: Charity bachelor auctions (Seen this gimmick on The Golden Girls again, and The Simpsons). Stars Hollow could never auction off a date with a hunky bachelor because Miss Patty keeps all the eligible single men and teenage boys chained up in her basement. I may have to do some research on these phenomenons.
I already can't stop saying Shug and Shuggy and Shugar at random intervals after seeing Land of Bad yesterday, and Babette is not helping, lol. Maybe on a different timeline, she was Shug's Momma (actually...maybe I shouldn't wish that for dear Babette).
I just want to point out the sign in the background reading: "All students riding a school bus home after school must wait in the gym." Who is so far away they're taking a bus to school in Stars Hollow? Stars Hollow is like four feet long. Maybe there are so few teenagers in The Hollow they have to consolidate with other districts and bus in students from other towns, like seat fillers. Those poor kids, deprived of an education like that.
Everything reminds me of Captain John "Sugar/Shug" Sweet. Sookie informs Lorelai that under duress, she reluctantly agreed to her husband's "four in four" plan (four kids in four years, what is she, a dog?) and now she can't back out or have a conversation with him about it so she has no choice but to lay down and accept his sperm, lest she cause any conflict in their newlywed marriage where things are still bright and shiny and they enjoy sniffing each other in the morning, or something like that.
Tell that to Liz Danes.
That's rich and creamy coming from Ms. "I Almost Married Max Medina Without Discussing Where We Were Going to Live".
This is a janky medical operation we've got going on here. Medical examinations being performed next to open containers of food, no gloves being worn by medical personel or kitchen staff, and massage therapists walking around wearing tshirts saying "Masseuse" on them, because it's important to establish who you're getting massaged by. If it doesn't say Masseuse on the shirt, you might end up getting a rubdown from an unsanctioned random weirdo.
Alexis's is sneering like, "I'm here working 14 hours day in the Los Angeles heat in a heavy coat with a bunch of DORKS when I could be home boinking MY NEW BOYFRIEND MILIO VENTIMIGLIA and touching his BIG WANG! But maybe we can sneak in a quickie behind craft services later"
Mrs Kim is the real star of this episode.
Oh hey Mrs. Stanley Appleman.
Kinky.
If you keep drinking all that coffee, you're going to turn into a Coffee. Or probably have back to back heart attacks.
The clock is ticking to Shane's imminent demise. Hopefully her collapse from excessive blood loss won't get in the way of the other dancers, because Jess is going to butcher her behind the school without any witnesses. He is home sharpening his axe. #MurderOnTheDanceFloor #BetterNotKillTheGroove How the hell did they rustle up 156 couples/ 312 people for this thang anyway?
I love Luke in this episode :)
Pretty rich and creamy coming from you, Miss No Car, No Job, No Pet, One Friend, Butthead Boyfriend, Goes Home From College Every Weekend to Visit Mommy. Kirk has a thousand careers, he will eventually have a pet and a girlfriend, and what reason would you need a car in The Hollow? Except to escape it. Kirk easily has the most interesting life in The Hollow, save for Miss Patty, maybe (who has the most interesting past). He seems pretty content with his life. I love that there's a "security" guard back there. I guess he was sleeping on the job when Shane's cries of agony rang out into the cold Connecticut sky.
Says Miss Lonely Pathetic Existence Also Attending The Same Marathon With Lonely Pathetic Mother And Every Other Lonely Pathetic citizen of the entire town.
YAYYYYY.
If Lane doesn't stop causing so much friction in Hep Alien, she might be replaced with this guy. I'm sure he will get paid equally as much drumming for a group of teenagers as he's currently getting paid to drum for a small town twerk-till-you-drop charity event.
Remember when swing music had a brief resurgence in the late 90s? Those were the days, oh some days they were. But since time stands still in The Hollow, they're actually still on the 1930's wave. This is too much fun and so cute and whimsical and joyous and what a wonderful episode it is. Can't even snark too hard about the dancing. Lowering snark cannons.
They're going to go home and have unbelievable amounts of sex.
You know who else is going to go home after the DM and have an unbelievable amount of sex? I'm sorry. You came to The Thing, Dean! You did the bare minimum! You paid your girlfriend and her mother an uninspired compliment! For that Lorelai will stare at you like a hungry dog salivating over the last scrap of meat on a bone.

my favorites were "A farce to suit the new girl" and "Battling Poll"! check them out, and check out the whole podcast
We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian like I said last week when I started reading it, enjoyable but not super compelling! But i like the relationship dynamic that's set up between the leads, so it was sweet and I finished it
"Consent" by Emily A. Owens absolutely a must read in terms of thinking through what the place of consent is in discussions of sex and sexual violence
"Sexual Violation and the Question of Experience" by Linda Martín Alcoff
"On Not Being a Victim: Sex, Rape, and the trouble with following rules" by Mary Gaitskill an essay on date/acquaintance rape, and how we understand being and feeling violated. it takes a little digression into attitudes about PC moral purity in opinions about media. all of it written from a personal anecdotal perspective that I think is written deeply compassionately to one's past self and will be sticking with me. however I don't like how it picks up race as a topic at the beginning and then quickly drops it
"Convicted Rapists' Vocabulary of Motive: Excuses and Justifications" by Diana Scully and Joseph Marolla
"The Right (Way) to Represent: The Emotional Politics of Remembering Mass Rape in Germany After 1945" by Katherine Stone
Always the Almost by Edward Underhill recently released YA romance I read for the queer lit bookclub bc its a gay romance involving a newly out trans boy. I have many complaints but the group chat has already heard them
Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 12 by Kamome Shirahama, translated by Stephen Kohler I finished reading this RIGHT before I saw the trailer for the anime. i am overjoyed! excellent art and storytelling as always
Uzumaki by Junji Ito finished reading this right after the new Shelved by Genre episode came out, bc its due back at the library soon! has the sort of dramatic denouement that I was missing in Tomie
"The Unwanted Guest" by Tamsyn Muir borrowed @quiriusblack's copy of Nona the Ninth to finally read this bonus story. i love palamedes he's so insufferable
What Did You Eat Yesterday? Vol. 11 by Fumi Yoshinaga, transalted by Jocelyn Allen cute as always
Started/Ongoing:
You Should be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian set in the same friend group as we could be so good, this one has marginally more plot and I'm liking in better! love the main couple, and I like that they have similar struggles to the first around like living authentically as gay people in the 1950s and 60s and also trying to live safely
The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 11 by Kousuke Oono thought I had already read this but I guess I had not! as always light silly fun

Absolute Zero, episode 1 RANDOM THOUGHTS (more like FEELS and SQUEALS and HAPPY PIPS, here we go):
1) New Siwaj's latest prestige BL. Man, we've had some dips from him lately. I FAST-fast-forwarded through Between Us to get to the DeanPharm bits, and listen, I shoulda just listened to my friends (insert the Bugs Bunny "NO" gif here). And I have a pathetic love for Double Savage, a show that New Siwaj screenwrote and that aired earlier this year, for its POTENTIAL to tell an intergenerational familial trauma story headed by OhmPerth, but lord, it was a mess. At the same time, I have been impaled with a thirsty obsession over my watch and rewatch of New's Until We Meet Again, so with New going high for this latest show -- I have BIG expectations.
2) @bengiyo and @twig-tea (here and here) covered a TON of what I am thinking (and apologies to friends if you wrote AZ things yesterday and I missed them -- like @bengiyo, I would love to be tagged in your meta to track thoughts on this show!) (I think @troubled-mind is getting into this one, maybe we already have a little AZ squad going!). Further apologies and big ups to Ben and Twig if I repeat anything you say! Which I will, right now, repeating Ben's words:
3) FUCK if I didn't feel some nostalgia hearing Boy Sompob's voice again. I really do feel like this means that New is THROWING. DOWN. The music in this show is already fantastic. The music was SO IMPORTANT to the storytelling in UWMA, and I'm glad we're leading with it again here.
4) I am VERY PLEASED to see Mix Wanut (young Suansoon) holding down as a lead. We didn't see him too much as Don in UWMA, but: I thought his timing and comedy was particularly notable in UWMA (when Don was able to lighten up a bit near Dean, I thought it was really great).
5) Speaking of the actors. I'd like everyone to know (poor @neuroticbookworm and @lurkingshan have already heard me yelp on this). Teng Kanist, who plays the older Suansoon. He was fabulous as Nat in Gay OK Bangkok. Nat was a contradictory character, but let me be honest -- I felt a little symp for Nat because I like Teng's face. I admit it, I'm weak and transparent for dudes.
BUT: we all need to know that Teng Kanist IS ALSO A REAL-LIFE PASTRY CHEF who also GOES TO THE GYM. Therefore, we have a perfect man (for me lol) in our midst. Just need everyone to know! Croissants and abs and sets. SOLD!
6) Ahem, where was I. As an #old, seeing middle-aged dudes in a drama is what I need. I like that Absolute Zero is going to do this for us: to juxtapose the expected BL school scenes with two real adults in real adult settings. I love this. And I love that I know we are going to get more elders next week in What Did You Eat Yesterday?, and elder-ishes very soon in Cherry Magic Thailand and Cooking Crush. We need to age-diversify this field, and New is leading this season.
7) I love how fast we needed to get to young Suansoon and young Ongsa getting together. From the MDL description of the show, it looks like Absolute Zero may have a similar structure to UWMA. UWMA was like a three-part series: the first part being Dean and Pharm getting together; the second being their discovering their spiritual pasts through their shared inherited memories and meeting their families; and the third being the conclusion with their resolving Korn and Intouch's forced separation at death.
If Absolute Zero follows a similar structure in a shorter episode span (right now, MDL shows AZ having 12 episodes, as compared to UWMA's 17 episodes), then I understand AZ needing to be a bit chop-chop about the romance. But I felt that this episode was still perfectly paced, and yes -- dropping the faen in the first episode could seem a touch fast, but I felt that we had convincingly spent intentional time with Suansoon's loneliness to understand why he would have said yes to Ongsa. (And, anyway -- of course, we needed to know that they got together, because we time-jumped to their loving adult relationship.)
And I loved young Ongsa's approach. A guy looking and chasing after his crush. The romance of buying tickets to a movie, hoping the guy he likes will show up. Giving Suansoon a birthday bracelet at the movie. Holding Suansoon's hand and asking him the big question.
Man.... ahhhh. What I loved about that bracelet scene is that -- the gift of that bracelet did a lot of the communicating from Ongsa to Suansoon without words. Suansoon was clearly touched and moved. The loss of his parents shakes him, but he clearly got a lovely moment of connection from that gift. Mix acted that part beautifully.
8) The Love of Siam. What can I fucking say. I haven't seen My Only 12%, where I know New makes another significant reference to LoS there. But, just. I'm very glad @bengiyo insisted on LoS being the start of the Old GMMTV Challenge, in part because of the references to LoS in other Thai BLs over the course of the genre's short history, but also -- the tragedy of that movie communicates SO MUCH when it is present as a reference in another piece. Just like the bracelet communicates so much by way of love. I love that we got to see the pre-ending credits quote. I love that New's communicating to us through this brilliant movie.
I am sure I can find more to gush on, but let me stop here, because this got longer than I expected. I can't manage a full load of dramas, so I'll likely be dropping my thirst-watch of Dangerous Romance to accommodate AZ and WDYEY. Just like I am praying for Tee Bundit to not drop the ball on I Feel You Linger in the Air -- let us hope New can also keep the juggle up on AZ. He started this out STRONG. I HAVE HIGH HOPES.
#absolute zero#absolute zero the series#new siwaj#tor supakorn#mix wanut#teng kanist#toey puwanat#suansoon x ongsa#ongsa x suansoon#that'll probably get shortened to soon right#we will see#absolute zero meta

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, Episode 1: Into the Breach, Part 1
Somehow, Robert Beltran has returned.
I didn't know that Netflix released Prodigy until about an hour ago, but I'm glad they did. For people who missed the entire saga, two years ago Paramount released season 1 of an excellent Star Trek series called Prodigy. The pitch was that it was a group of (mostly) kids from the far side of the galaxy escaping slavery to come to the Federation, and it was excellent. The characters were compelling, the stories were fun, and it was pitched as an entry to the franchise for kids. Also, the animation looks vaguely like the Clone Wars style. I was in. And then on top of that it's also a follow-up to Voyager, my favorite Star Trek show that I really need to finish writing my reviews for season 1 of.
Anyway, Paramount killed it and wiped it from streaming. After months of fan and crew campaigning, Netflix picked it up and agreed to release the already finished second season. It came out yesterday as a single 20-episode drop, and I've decided to watch it and keep up my reviews of it. I think I want to space out my reviews a bit so I can focus on the individual episodes, so that's how this will start. I would like to do an episode a day, but I don't trust myself to keep to that, so there will probably be some gaps.
So, episode 1. Is it a good premiere? Short answer, mostly. 8/10.
I haven't seen season 1 since I first watched the show, so I'm a bit out of the loop. This episode did a good job of reminding me who the characters were and why I liked them, but it did throw a few curveballs for character arcs that I'm not sure I love. I'm happy with how they handled Zero, Rok, and Jankum, but I think Dal needs a bit more expansion. He's the protagonist so he'll definitely get it, but for a first episode it's a weird place to leave him. Basically, the season starts with the kids in training (I *think* they're all kids, Zero's either a million years old or ten and I can't tell), and they're all adapting more or less OK to formal Starfleet life. Except Dal. Dal doesn't want to actually do any studying and just wants to be a spaceship captain who goes on adventures and shoots things. It's a pretty simple arc, but it's also a kids' show.
I do like the dynamic of all the other main characters wanting to be part of Starfleet and it putting strain on their friendgroup while Dal just wants to do what he wants to do, and the running gag that he refuses to read Temporal Mechanics 101 is a fun joke and a plot element. I'm torn because I kind of want more from the show than that, but also there's only so much you can do in 22 minutes and still expect kids to follow and I recognize that.
In terms of Voyager follow-up, Janeway has a secret mission! That's fun! I like the way her new bridge officers look in the animation style, especially the Andorian I can't name. That species just looks good in this definitely-not-Clone Wars render. Also, I like Andorians. Sue me.
The Doctor is also back! The Doctor is one of my favorite Star Trek characters ever, and I'll explain why if/when I do a thing about Voyager. I'm glad he's back. It feels like they struggled a bit with using Robert Picardo as a voice actor - it just feels a little stilted - but I've also only seen the first episode. I'm not sure why he's on the mission in-universe, but I'll give it time.
The Voyager-A is ostensibly studying a wormhole but secretly rescuing Chakotay, which is a good way to keep the threads from season 1 going and also giving the crew some conflict with Admiral Janeway. In season 1, they got pretty attached to Hologram Janeway, and not having the same relationship with the human version is going to be a fun dynamic to play out. I know they made this a while ago, but I am very curious how much they knew about Robert Beltran (Chakotay's actor) and his feelings about COVID vaccines at the time (he doesn't like them).
Two timeline things that are interesting to nerds - Voyager-A and the mention of the Romulan evacuation. I was halfway through an extended paragraph about the timeline of Voyager-A being here and what that means for the Lore before I realized what I'd done, so I'll make that a separate post. The Romulan evacuation comment is just interesting because that's a plot point from the Abrams Star Trek reboot that puts the events of this show way closer to Voyager than I thought they were, so it has not been that long for Janeway, Chakotay, and the Doctor. I wonder if this will come up, or if I'm overthinking it. If I had to guess, it's probably the latter.

yeah i called this ep linked to Jeramie but like this is too much
Kingoh's female characters really is the best…
i'm so shocked i forget to record the first 3 minutes of Kasumi's live, again.
ah new kingoh episde, i feel alive again (heartbroken)
---- pre-essay ----
i just wanna say i'm exhausted (irl) and i'm exhausted from kingoh serving us nothing but despair and angst and apparently same for next week too. so even when i'm relieved we know what's coming up i really need a break when daigo shows up (break = waking up at noon to watch subs instead of live at 8).
I don't know what emotion should I bring to watching this episode. I approached it all clinical figuring out a flow but i just know i'll be wrong (good). I have no idea how the episode would end though - or that we'd even realize it has reach the endpoint (good thing for commercial breaks ig). Is Rita gonna be out of action for a bit? Or is it going to connect to Jeramie's background?
you see at this point i don't even care if himerita gets "canon" or who won in the end 🏵🦋 or 🦋👓 they are all canon to me. i'm just having a LOVELY time enjoying the relationships being developed naturally instead of feeling advertised. honestly i wouldn't mind if they turn the queer bait to cash like lupat pink/yellow i'm very willing to be deceived if more content this time.

Episode 2: Confusing, but Fun Encounters
The next day at Lightwood University felt a little less intimidating for Finn. After his first encounter with Ren in the library, he was still a little nervous about making friends, but there was a faint buzz of excitement beneath his usual awkwardness. Who knew school could actually be interesting?
Finn strolled through the courtyard between classes, clutching his books tightly. He thought about Ren’s drawings—those weird, wonderful worlds she created. He had barely said a word to her yesterday after their brief chat, but he couldn’t help wondering if they’d cross paths again today.
Lost in his thoughts, Finn nearly walked straight into someone carrying a stack of papers. The person stumbled, dropping everything in a flurry of sheets.
“Whoa! Sorry!” Finn exclaimed, bending down to help the girl gather the papers.
“Oh no, it’s fine,” the girl said, crouching beside him. Her blue hair made her stand out immediately, the tips dyed a soft lavender. She wore a bright yellow hoodie that contrasted sharply with her hair. Her laugh was light, as though she was used to things going a little off track.
As they gathered the papers, Finn realized some of them weren’t just notes—there were doodles all over them, weird little creatures and shapes lining the edges.
“You like drawing too?” Finn asked, holding up a page with an alien-like creature doodled in the corner.
The girl smiled sheepishly, taking the paper back. “Kind of hard to focus in class without it.”
“Same,” Finn chuckled, feeling oddly at ease with her. “I’m Finn, by the way.”
“Sydney,” she replied, standing up with the stack of papers clutched against her chest. “You’re new here, right? I saw you yesterday but didn’t get a chance to say hi.”
Finn blinked, a little confused. “You did?”
“Yeah, you were in the library,” Sydney said, shrugging. “Kind of hard to miss someone pulling a wrestling move over a book.” She winked, clearly teasing.
Finn’s face flushed. “Oh... right.”
Before Finn could say anything else, another voice cut through the conversation. “Hey, space boy! Making friends already?”
Finn turned to see Ren strolling toward them with her usual carefree confidence. She gave Sydney a nod and then turned to Finn, a smirk tugging at her lips. “Didn’t think I’d run into you again so soon.”
“Well, I didn’t knock anyone over this time,” Finn said, feeling a little flustered. It was strange—he was so used to feeling awkward around people, but with Ren, it felt like they’d known each other forever, even though it had only been a day.
“You’re making progress,” Ren teased, folding her arms. “But don’t get too confident.”
Sydney chuckled beside them. “So, you’re the famous ‘space boy’ I’ve been hearing about.”
Finn blinked. “Wait, famous? How?”
Sydney pointed to Ren. “She was talking about you at lunch yesterday. Something about your little book tug-of-war.”
Finn groaned. “I swear I didn’t mean to yank it that hard!”
Ren laughed. “Relax, I’m just messing with you. But hey, since you seem to like space so much, I have something you might like.”
She pulled a small folded piece of paper out of her pocket and handed it to Finn. It was a flyer. “Astronomy club meet-up tonight. It’s nothing official, just a group of us who like to hang out on the roof and stargaze. You should come.”
Finn hesitated. He had never been one for clubs or gatherings, and social situations weren’t exactly his forte. But the idea of stargazing? That was different. That was something he could get behind.
“I… I’ll think about it,” Finn said, tucking the flyer into his pocket.
Ren shrugged. “No pressure. But it’s fun. And confusing sometimes, but that’s what makes it interesting, right?”
Sydney grinned. “Yeah, you never know what’s going to happen with this crew.”
As the girls began chatting, Finn found himself caught in a whirlwind of new faces and personalities. It was confusing, trying to keep up with their rapid-fire banter, and Finn often felt like he was one step behind in the conversation. Ren’s quick wit and Sydney’s laid-back humor kept him on his toes, and he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to laugh, add something, or just nod along.
But the weird thing was—he was having fun. Sure, it was a bit dizzying, trying to follow everything, but it was also… nice.
As the afternoon wore on, they ended up sitting on the campus lawn, talking about random things. Ren and Sydney traded funny stories about their teachers, while Finn sat quietly, trying to figure out the rhythm of the conversation. Every now and then, they’d pull him in, asking him questions about his interests, his thoughts on the school, and, of course, his obsession with space.
It wasn’t the most comfortable day for Finn—he was still awkward and unsure of himself—but it was better than he expected. He didn’t feel like he was just watching everyone else from the sidelines anymore. He was part of it, even if he was still figuring things out.
By the time the bell rang for the final class of the day, Ren gave him a quick pat on the shoulder as they stood up. “So, you coming tonight or what?”
Finn hesitated again, but the idea of sitting on the roof, looking at the stars, was too good to pass up.
“Yeah,” he said, giving a small smile. “I’ll be there.”
“Awesome,” Ren said, already walking off. “See you at 8. Don’t be late!”
As Finn walked to his next class, he couldn’t help but smile. Today had been… confusing. But it had also been fun. And maybe, just maybe, things were starting to look up.

It starts with the pigtail pulling, but she doesn't have it in her to mind.
In the mess hall, just before he sits down with her to eat his lunch. Passing in the corridors, a sly smile tipping his lips as he reaches out, lightning-fast for a quick tug, never losing his stride. Whenever he sees her in Ops, he'll sidle up behind her and give a tug, ready with a wink and a smile as he ducks away to talk to whoever asked him to stop by.
She'd be upset, because it's so cliché it's maddening, but he is the best damned pilot in the Fleet, and it's not every girl on base that has Poe Dameron's attention.
~o~
"Hey, what'd you do to your hair?"
Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix reflexively reaches up and pats at the quick buns she'd tied her pigtails into just before her shift. She can feel a hot blush steel over her cheeks, but she can't do anything about it. She only wishes it were because Poe is smiling that thousand-watt smile at her.
Instead, she tugs him closer to her station, glancing around to see if that guy is still there. Seeing no one, she refocuses on him. And damn. It's not fair, but he's still stupidly handsome.
She reaches up and tucks some invisible hairs into her bun. "That new Admiral, what's-his-name. He saw you yesterday, when you came to check in with Burny. Said it was unprofessional, what you did. I figured he can't complain if there's no hair to tug."
Poe smiles. "The buns are cute. Not gonna stop me from tugging, though."
And he suits deeds to words and tugs gently at the bun over her ear, dropping a wink as he makes his way across the room towards the General's office.
~o~
And it would have been fine if it had stopped there. She'd have been disappointed, sure, that he'd stopped pulling her pigtails, but she'd have gotten over it.
Only that's not what happens at all.
~o~
The next time Kaydel sees Poe in Ops, he makes a beeline for her, eyes as bright as his smile. She smiles warily back, not sure what to expect. It's only been a couple of days since she told him about the Admiral, days when he'd been on patrol, so he hadn't even been on base to pull her pigtails.
Not that she missed him.
Yeah, right. Who is she kidding? She missed him, far more than she probably should, but she's not going to apologize for it either.
His smile, if it's even possible, gets wider as he stops, mere inches from her. Probably too close for it to look anything like professional.
"Still with the buns, I see," Poe says as he leans around her dramatically, checking out her hair. He's got his hands tucked behind his back, not even a hint that he's going to reach for her hair.
She should be relieved, but really, she's disappointed.
She smooths the hair reflexively, pursing her lips. "It's easier this way, when I'm on duty."
"Maybe one day you'll let me see it down around your shoulders," he says, winking at her.
And then he does the very last thing she ever expected: he leans in, pressing a sweet kiss to her cheek.
Her eyes flutter closed, the traitors, and she breathes a quiet sigh. When she opens them again, he's already across the room, talking to the guys monitoring the Benthami mission. Poe's squadron is on standby, in case things go sideways, which is the only reason he's in Ops.
Well, and apparently to kiss her.
She blushes as her fingers skate over the skin of her cheek. She can still feel the slight rasp of his beard as his lips pressed to her skin. She glances over to find him watching her. He tips her a wink, further deepening her blush, as he heads out of Ops.
Is it possible to fall in love after just one kiss?
~o~
So now, apparently, the kissing is a thing. When he sits down with her at lunch, he presses a quick kiss to her cheek. When he gets up to go, it’s a quick peck on the forehead. Passing in the halls, he doesn't even have to make contact with her to make her blush. All he has to do is wink and she's turning redder than the sky above Yavin at starset.
And then one day, he appears in Ops just as her shift is ending. She raises an eyebrow, but all he does is smile.
When she's finally closed out her station, she turns to find him leaning against the large projection console in the middle of the room.
"Something I can help you with?" she asks, hands on hips.
Poe shrugs in that way he has. "I was going to take a walk before dinner. I thought you might want to come along."
Her heart nearly beats out of her chest, but years of long practice in high-stress situations keeps her from losing it altogether.
"I'd like that," she says, which wasn't what she was going to say, but her brain-to-mouth filter must have shorted out. No matter, if it gets her that winning smile he's aiming at her, she'll go with it.
"My lady," he says, offering her his arm.
They leave through the hanger doors and wander down the flight line. Because of course he'd take her to his X-Wing. He's a pilot; all they ever think about are their ships and—
She hopes the twilight is deep enough to cover her blush. No need for him to know just how into him she is.
When they reach his X-Wing, he releases her hand and walks underneath it, skimming his fingers over the skin of her underbelly. She watches him as she stands under the wing. His face is shining with such joy, eyes dancing over every weld and rivet. He's humming something under his breath, but she can't quite make out the tune.
"You really do love flying, don't you?" she asks, voice hushed so as not to disturb the night.
"Mmmm," he says. He glances at her over his shoulder. "It's peaceful, up there. Nobody but me and BB-8. I'm in control, I can go wherever I want, take as long as I want to get there. It's freeing, in a way."
She's never heard anyone talk about flying that way, but she supposes it's true. Apart from battle, flying an X-Wing has to be a solitary experience. Not for the faint of heart, to be sure, but also not for those who thrive on interaction and socialization.
"My mom always said I'd be a great pilot," he says, turning back to her.
"Maybe that's why you are: her faith in you, and your faith in her," she says.
She knows his family is gone. Like so many of them, orphaned by a war that just won't end. But she's glad he has this connection to the people that made him.
He moves quick as lightning, standing before her and taking her hand. "Thank you for that," he says quietly.
He leans in, slowly, giving her plenty of time to back away if she doesn't want this, but she's not going to move. When his lips touch hers, it's electric. He presses in close, molding her body to his as though he's not just kissing with his lips but with his whole being. She holds on tight, her fingers wrapped around his biceps as his tongue invades her mouth, leaving devastation and ruin behind. She'll never want another man's touch after this, and she's not ashamed to admit it.
When he pulls away, he rubs her chin with his thumb, smiling a soft smile, one she's never seen before. Instead of saying any number of totally ridiculous things that might break the mood, he just laces his fingers with hers and tugs her along to the mess to get dinner.
She can't remember what she ate, and she doesn't know what they talked about, but it's the best dinner she can ever remember having.
~o~
It becomes a pattern with them: whenever he's on base, if he's not in a briefing or meeting behind closed doors, he shows up near the end of her shift and waits for her to close down her station. He doesn't even ask anymore, just takes her hand and heads out.
They don't always walk the flight line, and when they do they don't always visit his X-Wing. Sometimes he'll take her to see a new craft, one she hasn't seen before. It's fun for her, in a way, being able to see where the pilots sit, so she can imagine them sitting there when she's on comms during an operation.
But just as often he'll bypass the flight line and take her out into the fields surrounding the base, where they'll watch the starset and talk quietly about everything and nothing. They don't talk about the war, or the First Order, or the latest casualty list, filled with too many friends and allies cut down in their prime. It's hard, this life they've chosen, and talking about it won't make it easier to cope with the losses, so they don't even try.
Instead, he kisses her, breath-stealing kisses that make her forget everything but the feel of his arms around her and his lips on hers.
She treasures those nights, bottles the memories up in her heart, because she knows it could all be ripped away at a moment's notice, and she never wants to forget what it feels like to be the center of someone's universe.
~o~
She's barely finished firing up her station when he jogs across Ops, stopping beside her with that look on his face. It's been a long time since she's seen him in the middle of a shift, so she's startled speechless for a moment.
"Come to pull my pigtails again?" she asks, her smile full of coy teasing.
Poe shakes his head, and now she remembers that look, what it's for. It's predatory, the look of a warrior getting ready to join the fight.
"I'll be leaving soon," he says. It feels like he's stabbing her in the heart. "I just wanted to stop and say—well, I just wanted to see you before I go."
She reaches up and brushes his cheek with her fingers, pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek. They've talked about this, about what would happen when he has to go out on a mission. She's not afraid for him; he's good, the best in the fleet. And she knows he'll come back to her or die trying. Doesn't make it any easier to see him go.
It's when he's pulling away, when she wonders if this will be the last time she sees him, that she says, "I love you."
It's the first time either of them has said it, and for a moment, his grin is frozen on his face. But then it melts into a soft smile. "I know." He makes to step away, but at the last moment, he turns and sweeps her into his arms, kissing her for all he's worth. "I love you, too," he says, lips pressed to hers so she can feel the words and not just hear them.
"Be safe," she says as he pulls away. "May the Force be with you."
She doesn't say what she's really thinking. Come back to me. But she thinks he hears the words anyway.
"Always," he says.
And then he's gone.
She watches him go, not even a little bothered by the fact that she's ignoring her duty station. She can't take her eyes off of him, afraid this will be the last time she sees him.
"He'll come back."
Kaydel only notices the General standing beside her when she speaks. She gives a watery smile that the General returns. She reaches out and squeezes Kaydel's hand. "He'll come back," she says again. "The good ones always do."
And then she's gone, and so is Poe, though she can hear him through the comms as he takes off in his X-Wing, headed for who knows where.
She returns to her station, noticing the little red blip, steady as it moves out of orbit. At least she has this, the reassuring glow of the tracking dot that represents her only connection to Poe and his X-Wing. It isn't much, but it'll have to do.
~o~
She's at her station two days later when that little red blip winks out.
It takes everything in her not to collapse on the floor of Ops, and even more strength from reserves she didn't know she had to report the destruction of the X-Wing to the General.
But when she finally reaches her quarters that night, she can't hold it together anymore. She sinks to the floor beside her bed and quietly sobs.
She knows that the destruction of the X-Wing is hardly proof that the pilot is dead, but it's the logical conclusion. They'll mark him missing in the database, and life will go on, but for Kaydel it feels as if this thing with Poe is ending before it's even begun. Just one more casualty of a war without end.
But despite the pain in her heart and the pounding in her head, she gets up the next morning and goes back to her station. If anyone knows what she's lost, they don't mention it, and for that she's grateful.
~o~
Two days crawl past in a fog of work and sleep and very little food, despite the fact that her friends try to ply her with treats at all hours. She appreciates the thought, but she just can't swallow past the lump in her throat.
There's been no word from Poe, no signal from BB-8, and as the hours pass, hope begins to dwindle. Kaydel knows that if he were still alive, he'd have found a way to contact them, but she's not quite ready to give up just yet. She knows at some point that the General will have to declare him presumed dead, but she's not even sure that'll really be the end of hoping he comes back.
Everyone knows the stories, has grown up with them, so they know that the General and her brother and husband have faced longer odds and come back. It's all she can cling to now.
~o~
The transport sets down on the flight line with very little fanfare. Kaydel's barely paying attention. She's been tracking First Order fleet movements by order of the General. There's something going on, but no one's sure what.
Comms has been a hub of activity, with reports coming in on all frequencies. There's been a BB-8 sighting, which had made Kaydel's heart climb nearly up into her throat when she'd heard it. It doesn't mean Poe's alive, but it's further proof that if anyone could get out of a tight spot, it's him.
There's a commotion on the flight line, but Kaydel's so focused on her task that she barely notices what's going on. It isn't until she feels a tug at her bun that her head pops up. She spins around, but can hardly believe she's seeing what she's seeing.
Poe.
Poe Dameron.
Alive.
Alive!
She practically throws herself into his arms, not really noticing the dirty uniform or the sunburned face.
"I—I thought—Oh gods—" she blurts out, clinging to him, tucking her face into his neck and breathing him in.
He rubs her back, murmurs soothing words in her ear. "It's okay, love. I'm here now. I'm sorry I scared you."
She pulls back just enough to press a kiss to his lips. They're chapped and dry, but his eyes are sparkling and it's just so good to see that she can barely contain the joy. She knows she's crying, but she can't help it.
"You—how did you survive?" she asks with a puzzled frown. "Your X-Wing was destroyed. We all thought—"
"I wasn't in it when it blew," Poe says, shaking his head. "Storm troopers, and Snoke's lapdog. It got rough, but I made it out."
He kisses her again, and she decides that she could stay like this forever, if it meant he'd be safe, but a politely-cleared throat behind him pulls them apart. They turn to see the General gracing them with an indulgent smile.
"If you two are done, I need to debrief Captain Dameron," the General says.
"Of course, ma'am," Poe says with a nod. He turns back to Kaydel and gives a rueful smile. "Gotta go, but I'll find you later. Okay?"
She pushes up on her toes and kisses him one more time. "Get yourself cleaned up and go see medical. They'll probably track you down if you don't. We'll get dinner after."
"Yes, mother," he says with an eye roll.
When he turns around, the General is still standing there, one eyebrow raised. "If she hadn't said it, I would have."
"I have no doubt, ma'am," Poe says, grinning. "You're both a force to be reckoned with. I'd never dream of disobeying you."
"See that you don't," Kaydel says at the same moment the General says the same thing.
Poe chuckles ruefully. "I see how it is. Ladies, your wish is my command."
The General smirks, then turns and heads for her office. Poe turns and winks at Kaydel before following the General.
When they're finally out of sight, Kaydel practically sags into her terminal. Her shift is barely half over, but she knows she's not going to be able to focus the rest of the day. She's gonna worry, the entire time he's gone, that she just imagined him, imagined his arms around her and his lips on hers.
But she didn't, and she's going to see him again in just a few hours. That thought alone calms her franticly-beating heart. She takes a couple of deep breaths and wipes the evidence of tears off her face.
She's still got a job to do, and so does Poe. But for right now, having him back on the same base is enough.
~o~
They sleep intertwined that night. Kaydel is reluctant to let him out of her sight, as if he'll disappear the moment she's not touching him anymore. It's not rational, but up until a few hours ago, they'd all thought him dead, so she thinks she's due for a little irrationality.
Poe had been exhausted by the time he'd run the gauntlet of debrief, medical and a shower. He'd scarfed down dinner, and then practically faceplanted in bed once they'd returned to his quarters. She didn't mind; just having him beside her is enough.
She's woken by the comm in his quarters activating. The voice on the other end of the commline is ordering him to Ops for debriefing on a new mission, and Kaydel knows that means she'll be ordered to Ops in short order.
They dress quietly in the pre-dawn dark, neither of them willing to start the conversation. She knows she can't ask him not to go. You don't turn down General Organa when she requests you for a mission, but just this once Kaydel wishes Poe could turn her down.
He must see some of her thoughts on her face, because he pauses with boots on but pants still unbuckled to take her face in his hands.
"I will always come back to you," he says.
She knows he can't make that promise, but she doesn't care. Those are the words her heart needs to hear. "See that you do, mister. I'm not done with you yet."
Poe's smile is as bright as the sun. "Yes, ma'am."
They finish dressing and he kisses her one more time before he rushes through the door towards the flight line and his next mission.
"May the force be with you," she says quietly before she exits his quarters and heads to her own duty station.

Binging
Garret Reid checked his phone one final time.
Yes, that was the right café.
He opened the door and scanned the premises. It wasn’t long until he spotted Stefan. The possum still hadn’t noticed the wolf, wiping his brow after what Garret assumed was fatigue after an intense work day, so the canine took the opportunity to pick a table quietly.
He looked aside nonchalantly, but a very small gasp indicated that Stefan noticed him. Footsteps followed.
“Good afternoon, client I’ve never met before” Stefan said, and Garret could pratically imagine the cheeky smile on his lips.
The wolf turned and his good eye met the two good ones of the person he cared most. He was indeed smiling, but there were so many more emotions behind those chocolate puddles he called irises: longing, relief, affection beyond the pale.
“Good afternoon, barista” Garret winked, “I’ll have a vanilla latte. And your number.”
“Oh, mister, I’m afraid I’m already engaged. Long distance, but still faithful.”
Garret snorted.
“I sure would hope so.”
Discretly, their lips met. It was a small mutual peck, but both poured as much love and affection as they could into each other’s lips. It’d been three months since they last kissed, and the longing was as physical as the flesh and bone in their snouts.
Soon after, Stefan returned with Garret’s latte. The wolf watched his boyfriend attend other people, before his shift ended.
***
Garret opened another door, this time to Stefan’s apartment.
The two were frenching passionately, hugging frantically, so both the opening and closing of the door felt like earthquakes. Neither said anything coherently, breathing and gasping between kisses, two beings desperately wanting to become one. Finally, they broke their kissing frenzy enough to just gaze into each other wordlessly.
And Stefan’s stomach grunmbled.
“Busy day, uh?” Garret said.
“I cooked us some goulash yesterday” Stefan said, “Let me just heat it up.”
As he walked towards the kitchen he took off his jacket, revealing a rather simple white wifebeater. He wiggled his butt, winking at Garret.
“Make yourself comfortable.”
In response, Garret dropped all clothes aside from his own simpleblack shirt and underwear.
***
“How could she? She’s only human.”
“Damn, what a finale!” Stefan said.
Both were sitting on the couch, plates on their crouch as they ate while binging Inside Job.
“Such a great series” Stefan said, “Such a shame they cancelled it.”
“How do you think the series would end if it wasn’t cancelled?” Garret asked.
“Honestly I have no idea. They have all the conspiracy classics, but they play with them so it’s pretty hard to predict.”
Garret eye Stefan’s laptop, a file open with notes as if this was a college course.
“Wanna watch something else?” Garret suggested.
“Well, there’s this new show replacing all the cancellations at HBO Max” Stefan said, grabbing the remote, “Wanna give it a shot? It also has mysteries allegedly.”
“That’s your thing, not mine” Garret said, sticking out his tongue playfully.
“Nah, I know you get intringued easily too” Stefan said, putting his plate aside and pecking Garret’s cheek.
Cuddling together, they changed the channel.
***
“Oh no, I hallucinate because I have daddy issues. Gross!”
“And that’s enough of that!” Stefan said, shutting the tv down.
“God that was awful” Garret said.
“And they couldn’t even keep the mystery, every episode was a filler with teenage drama” Stefan said.
He laid on Garret’s side, white and black shirts clashing.
“Can’t believe Infinity Train and Pantheon were gutted and this shit got two seasons” Stefan pouted.
“Eh, the fans will bring those back love” Garret said, nuzzling Stefan’s head.
“Hope so. I miss those shows already.”
“More than you missed me?”
Stefan paused for a moment, then smirked.
“Yes.”
“Bitch” Garret replied.
“You’d love to make me your bitch, wouldn’t you stud?”
The two kissed, and the shirts fell on the floor.
***
Garret rested his head on Stefan’s naked chest, listening to his heartbeat. It was a sound he missed every day since they last laid together, on his flat in Edinburgh.
“I love you” he muttered.
“Love you too, babe” Stefan said, his paw caressing Garret’s hair.
“It’s been too damn long” Garret said, “Wish we could live together.”
“We blew all our money in the Sylvia” Stefan sighed, “And for nothing, it seems.”
Garret raised his head, staring at Stefan’s eyes. The opossum smiled back, but there was a clear sadness in his gaze, and the wolf wondered if he should tread carefully.
“How you’re holding up?”
Stefan sniffed.
“He’d be proud of us” he replied, “Well, maybe going ‘I told you so’ after we watched Velma.”
Garret laughed, and Stefan laughed too. But it died quietly.
“I don’t want you to leave” Stefan said, sniffing a bit, “I’m saving up for a visa, so we can be together.”
“Nah, I should be the one coming here” Garret said, “Scotland has it’s charm, but I could use a change of pace.”
“Y-you’d stay here with me?”
“Yeah, just gotta find a sparky job and we’re good to go.”
Stefan kissed Garret, and the two laid together, embracing until sleep overtook them.

Ouch.
Another unfortunate addition to my pile, I guess.
I noticed that OFMD was struggling to trend on tumblr as the season aired. It usually wasn't on the trending page by the time I unfiltered the show each Thursday, despite the fact I watched every episode within 24 hours of it dropping. It didn't super concern me - there were possible explanations, after all. People who had stepped back from the toxic fandom but still wanted to watch the show, or people waiting until the whole thing was out to watch it in one go (or waiting to get into posting). More important, if you had an eye toward renewal, was that it certainly seemed like people were watching.
Yesterday, though, S2 dropped out of MAX's Top Ten shows despite the finale only being 3 weeks ago, and while I very much doubt it's doing poorly, it still feels markedly different than S1 getting article after article about being the most in-demand for yet another week and "HBO would be insane not to renew!" I know those 2022 numbers were buoyed by a dedicated fanbase that certainly isn't gone - both of those links are from Renew as a Crew - but it certainly feels weaker.
And now this.
We are in the most active window of fandom for basically anything - immediately after a season concludes. First you get the quick hit fics in the first day or two, then oneshots that took a little longer, early starts of chapter fics, fix-its, continuations, missing scenes, etc. Everyone is generally in the mood to write and read (and rewatch!), and their attentions haven't been pulled away by the next big thing. I don't think we were going to match the S1 spike - new canon gay romance ending on a cliffhanger can do that - but where is the spike at all???
I've already seen accusations it's bitter Izzy fans, which frankly "Izzy Canyon" 1) did not have the numbers to account for any of these observations in the first place, and 2) has not been staging a collective protest regardless. I've been watching Izzy fans post, and write fix-its, and even rewatching the show that just killed their little guy.
Nah. If the show is losing viewers and fan engagement, that means it has lost significant ground with the same people that boosted it last season - more casual, predominantly BlackBonnet loving fans who exploded with joy at the thought of a silly pirate romcom that wasn't going to put their little guys through hell and was going to make them talk through their problems and kiss. 🤷♀️ Maybe they lost some of those fans by getting them attached to Izzy before killing him. Maybe they lost some with Edward's arc. Maybe they lost some with the sudden and rather forced happy ending, or the second breakup arc instead of development, or the focus on the plot created by Ricky vs Zheng in the finale.
They definitely appear to have lost them, though, and that's not great if the only hope of renewal (and maybe getting those fans back) rests on replicating the fandom push from after S1 😬
Turns out the final update on daily number of new single chapter fics under the OFMD tag on AO3 wasn’t the final update after all! Here's the current situation, 3 weeks after the finale of S2.
Currently the total number of new fics during the observation period in 2023 is 2.3% more than the previous year.
The highest daily number is 102 fics on the day the finale of S2 aired (26 Oct 2023).
#i do want s3 to happen abstractly because i'm interested whether it will get worse in the ways i think it will#but i haven't felt any desire to rewatch the show at all since s2 ended and i wouldn't be making an event out of s3 at this point#it's disappointing more than anything#(and irritating to know that cancellation probably WILL be remembered as izzy fans fault if it happens 🙄)#our flag means death#ofmd s2#fandom culture#statistics are good and fun#ao3#fanfic#ladyluscinia#ofmd meta

MISSING YOU — popstar! theodore nott x f! reader
CONTENT WARNING: angst/ mentions of therapy/ being under medication/ mental health
SUMMARY: theodore’s job takes him away from you a lot and hi here understanding for the most part. but after countless broken promises, you had enough.
WC/ AVG. READING TIME: 1574 words/ 8 minutes
return to the theodore masterlist here
"THANK YOU DR macmillan," you thanked your therapist.
"i'll have nurse johnson prepare your medication and you can sign out by the front desk."
you nodded in acknowledgment and left the doctor's office.
you noticed that it was a quarter past five and started on dinner. while the chicken was in the oven you remembered to record the episode of theodore's favourite show on telly so he could watch it when he had the time.
you did the laundry and ironed out theodore's dress shirts that had crumpled in the wash. you placed them neatly in his cupboard in colour order, that way, it was easier for him to pick out clothes for the day since he was always in a hurry.
as you tidied, you saw how theodore's white trainers had gotten dirty and cleaned them as well. pretty soon, dinner was cooked, the house was cleaned, and you were already showered.
you set the table and started on your dinnner, placing a heating charm on theodore's plate so his food would not get cold.
you washed your plate and settled into bed. you soon fell asleep alone in the cold bed, pulling the duvet closer to you to keep warm.
when you awoke the next day, the bed was suspiciously empty, which meant that theodore had not came home the night before.
you lazily rubbed your hands over you face and put on your house slippers. you washed your face, brushed your teeth, and treaded into the kitchen.
as you were frying up and egg, you heard something tapping on your window.
"thank you sweet pea," you cooed to the delivery owl as it dropped today's copy of witch weekly into your hands.
you were about to toss the magazine aside to read later when the headline caught your attention.
"lead singer theodore nott caught getting cozy with actress eloise delacour at french pub" was written in bold.
your eyes trailed to the picture of your boyfriend, standing way too close to the french actress for your liking.
you threw the magazine angrily at the counter as you ran your hands through your hair, trying to rationalise your thoughts.
you switched the hob off and leaned your elbows against the counter, holding your head in your hands.
you then heard a pop sound, theodore holding onto his backpack, his wand in one hand.
you picked your head up and barely glanced at him, before turning to make yourself a cup of tea.
"hey..." theodore threw his bag onto the sofa and trudged over to you, confused by your cold demeanour.
you would usually jump into his arms and pepper him in kisses whenever he came home after a long tour.
theodore attempted to hug you from behind but you pushed him away.
"what's wrong?" theodore's brows came to a furrow.
"what's wrong?" you scoffed and practically threw the magazine at him, "look at this and tell me what's wrong."
theodore picked the paper off the floor and looked at it.
"y/n...sweetheart...it's not what it looks like, management just thought it would be good marketing for our new record so they hosted a party last night," theodore set the magazine down and tried to step closer to you.
"stop..." your voice shook as you placed your hand in front of you to prevent theodore from coming near you.
"i'm sorry y/n, i really am. after those pictures nothing else happened i promise." theodore reasoned, his eyes pleading.
"it was my birthday," you muttured.
"huh?"
"it was my birthday, yesterday," you spoke a bit louder.
"what? no it wasn't your birthday's next week, on the-" theodore looked at the calender that was hung on the wall, "fourth...", he trailed off after seeing that today's date was the fifth.
you sniffed and wiped your cheek with your palm.
"shit, i'll make it up to you, i promise. i'm off for the whole month, i promise i'll pamper you and-"
"i can't do this anymore theodore. i can't sit here and pretend that everything's fine when it's not. i was patient whenever you had to work late, i was understanding when your management wanted to keep us a secret to upkeep your teenage hearthrob reputation. but i just can't anymore." you held your hand to your mouth to prevent the sob that threatened to spill.
"y/n..." theodore tried to step closer to you but your hand still remained in the space between you both.
"yesterday, when i blew out my candles by myself, my one wish was to for once be your first choice." your voice broke, "it's always your work before me, but just for one day in the year, all i wanted was for you to choose me."
your body weakened and theodore quickly caught you by your forearms, supporting you with his hands below your elbow.
you let yourself break as theodore looked at you guiltily, wondering how had he ever fucked up enough to hurt the girl like he had.
the moment was interrupted when theodore's manager's voice filled the small condo.
"theodore, we need you in the studio. the weird sisters have agreed to do a demo and this can be huge for us." the middle aged man fire talked.
you saw the look on theodore's face, you had been dating long enough to know that was his contemplating face.
if he was even contemplating leaving while you were falling apart in his arms then the conversation between the two of you was not evern worth having.
"go." you pulled your arms away and leaned agains the counter.
"you made your choice when you were weighing out the options in your head, you made your choice and you didn't choose me," you pointed to the fireplace, "go."
you shoved past theodore and hurried into your bedroom, slamming the door shut.
"y/n," theodore opened the door and looked down as you sat on the edge of the bed.
"go away," you said coldly.
"you know what? fine," theodore gritted his teeth, "if you want me to go so badly, i'll go."
before he could walk off, you gripped onto his wrist, "you'll never find another like me."
it had been six months since you packed your necessities and left without another word.
six months later and here theodore was, sitting in his front room as a girl laid underneath him.
sloppy kisses were shared but all on his head was how the girl was not you.
her lips did not feel like yours, the hand that threaded through his hair did not feel like yours.
"i'm sorry," theodore pulled away and fixed his dress shirt, sitting straight.
"it's alright," the girl smiled at him, "your mind was everywhere but me, even when you offered to bring it back to your flat."
she picked up her bag and wiped her thumb on the corner of her mouth to fix her lipstick, "thank you for tonight, i had fun nevertheless, but i can tell you love her, whoever you've been thinking about. so tell her that you do, it's never too late."
and with that theodore was left alone in the apartment that you once shared.
he stared at the photograph of you and him above the fireplace, one that he never had the heart to take down, selfishly praying that you were alone as well, dumping whichever fool that was not enough for you.
because theodore knew that nobody could ever be good enough for you.
theodore got into the bathroom and a chip in the tiled wall caught his notice.
he could feel the magic coming off it and removed the charm from the medicine cabinet.
he picked the potions up and read the labels off it, your name printed at the top.
he never knew.
theodore never knew you were struggling with your mental health and he wondered why you had chose to keep him from it.
"fuck," theodore slammed his fists on the wash basin and ran his hands through his hair.
you were suffering alone and theodore never knew. maybe if he loved harder you would have told him, maybe if he had checked if you were alright, you would have told him. maybe if he had fought harder that night, you would have told him.
he tried to get over you, he really did. he had somehow convinced himself that he never needed you, that his pride mattered more.
but theodore let you slip through his fingers and there was nothing he regretted more than that.
it was only after you had broken up that theodore realised that he would indeed never find another like you.
nobody would make him honey tea just the way he liked it when his throat felt scratchy after voice lessons like you would.
nobody would tuck him into bed when he was not feeling his best after a long day at the recording studio like you would.
nobody would surprise him at his shows that he would do all over europe, holding up a handmade sign despite being almost trampled by people in the pit like you would.
it was six months after you had gotten your heart absolutely shattered by him that theodore finally admitted to himself that he missed you.

FATWS One Shot #3 - Stars, Stripes, and Bubbles
Word Count: 1912
Warnings: Cursing, Fluff, erm…a Relationship that You Want to Happen but Know Never Will
Setting/Characters: The first part of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 after Steve’s hostage mission; Reader, Steve Rogers, mentions of Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff, and Nick Fury
A/N: This…isn’t what I thought it was gonna turn out to be. But I like it, it’s cute, and I needed something pure with the shield after that ending scene, so I’m posting it.
I have a few more One Shots planned that take place during TWS so I’ll be writing those today and tomorrow. This week is a lot less hectic than last week (I was being trained in another area of my job last week, hence crazy hours), so expect more One Shots coming this week. Again, I’m trying to post them chronologically, but there might be some out of order depending on what you guys request and when, which is totally fine!
For today, I have the Reader meeting Sam (which is kinda what this was supposed to be, but…oh well) and more about the notebook planned. Also Reader meeting Bucky unofficially for the first time because he’s, you know, brainwashed and stuff. Later this week I’m planning on AoU stuff which will include the Party Scene and Wanda interactions.
If I can get through those by Friday when the new episode comes out, I’ll start on CA:CW which will include Reader officially meeting Bucky and possibly the airport scene if you guys are interested in that. Then I’ve got some Wakanda scenes and some Peter interactions. If not, I’ll start CW:CA next Sunday. Once the backstory is set up and completed chronologically, I might go back and just write some drabbles and stuff of random moments - kinda like this one.
I did get a request earlier for Bucky’s perspective on the dancing scene in Part 4.2, so I’m planning on doing more rewrites of scenes in Bucky’s perspective, but that’ll come after the One Shots, so hopefully next week.
I think that’s all…umm…yeah. Once again, not beta’d so please excuse any mistakes! Thank you so much for reading! I’m so glad you’re all enjoying this almost as much as I am! Be kind to yourselves and others! Enjoy reading and stay tuned!

cjsinkythoughts Masterlist
The beeping of the timer made you groan and set down the book you were digging into. You were just starting to get to the good part, but the food smelled so good, so you decided it could wait.
You were so focused on your task of getting your breakfast ready that you didn’t hear your front door open or the footsteps that followed it shutting, the thud of boots hitting the floor just around the corner. Setting the ready food on the counter, you jumped at the arms that wrapped around your shoulders and waist.
“Shouldn’t you be more observant for a spy?”
You gave a hum at his deep voice, tilting your head slightly as he placed his cheek on your shoulder, nose pressing up against the column of your throat. “Shouldn’t you be heading over to the Triskelion for your debriefing with Fury?”
He growled at the mention of the mission he was just sent on yesterday morning. The first few assignments he had surprised you with how quick they were over, but then you remembered yours were a bit different than his and you got used to him being back within the next couple days.
“We don’t have secrets right? I’m so fucking tired of secrets.”
Your eyebrow quirked up as you turned to face him, his hands slipping down to your hips. You took in his state; he was still in uniform, dirt on his face, hair unruly, the shield on his back gray with the dust that covered it. He obviously hadn’t even gone to his own place yet, meaning he just got back. “What happened?”
He huffed, letting go of you to rub his face tiredly. “Natasha. She didn’t tell me that Fury sent her to do something other than what we were supposed to be doing.”
“They’re spies, bubs. It’s what they do.”
“You’re a spy. You wouldn’t do that.”
Chuckling a little at his comparison, you shook your head. “Our relationship is a little…different than yours and Nat’s.”
“I wish they’d put you on my missions. I don’t know why they don’t. We work well together, don’t we?”
You snorted. “That’s probably the reason.” At his confused look, you shook your head. “Never mind. Just…we’re closer. I know you better than they do. You can’t compare them to me. It isn’t fair.”
He grumbled, eyes glancing down to your feet. “They still should’ve told me.”
“Hey,” you tilted his head back up to meet your gaze. “It was a hostage mission, right?” He nodded. “Did you save the hostages?” Another nod, which made you shrug. “Then there you go. You did your job and you saved people. It was a success. That’s all that matters.”
“He got away.” Steve argued. “He got away because she didn’t feel the goddamn need to tell me-”
“She was following orders. Don’t be mad at her.”
“You’re right.” His quick admission stunned you for a moment, until he continued speaking. “It’s Fury’s fault. I think I’m gonna go-”
He started moving away, but you tugged him back, shaking your head again. “Not yet, bubba. You can talk to him later. Let’s get you cleaned up first. Then we’ll eat and you can tell me how that run you went on yesterday was. Okay?”
His features softened and he nodded, setting his forehead against yours. “Okay.”
You had half of your dresser sectioned off for Steve’s things. SHIELD had moved him to DC about a year previous to be closer to HQ, especially after the Helicarrier became decommissioned for repairs. You already had an apartment in DC - it was where you stayed for the most part, hence the reason you were more than willing to stay in New York for a couple years.
The moment he moved in about ten minutes from you, you knew, just like in DC, he’d be spending a lot of time at your place. Which is why you made the executive decision to have him bring a bag over one night and unpack his stuff.
It wasn’t the first shower he took at your place and it most certainly wouldn’t be the last.
While he was cleaning up, you got to work washing his suit and the shield. You teased him by saying you’d just throw his suit in the washer and the shield in the dishwasher, but you wouldn’t actually.
His suit was air drying by the window and you were at the sink scrubbing off the shield, wishing you had a backyard and a hose, when he padded back into the room, hair plastered to his forehead, dripping down his temples, sweats and a t-shirt clinging to his body. He shook his head, leaning on the counter besides you. You always found it amusing how big he looked in your tiny kitchen.
“You know you don’t have to do that, right?”
You scoffed. “If you think I’m gonna let you walk around in that disgusting thing all day, you, my friend, are nuts.”
He chuckled, moving behind you and setting his chin on your shoulder, his larger hands stopping yours from their movements. “At least let me do this, then.” He murmured, taking the scrub brush from you, spreading the bubbles over the rings of the shield.
“You can help me. But I like finishing what I started.” You whispered back, reaching for a clean rag and dunking it into the soapy water, wiping down the star in the middle.
He placed a gentle kiss to your jaw, relenting easily. “Fine.”
You two worked in silence, the water running over the shield, taking the dirt and grime with it, hands occasionally brushing each other. Almost finished, Steve placed his hand over yours, moving it over to a certain spot. “The brush won’t get it.” He explained, his low voice sounding right beside your ear.
Smiling, you turned your head to look at him. There was a crease between his brow as he concentrated on getting rid of the smudge on the precious metal. Your lips turned up when you noticed a dark spot on his jaw he must’ve missed. He looked at you with a grin when you started giggling. “What’s got you giggling so pretty, honey?”
Letting go of the side of the shield you were holding, you reached up to wipe the dirt on his jaw that he missed with your thumb. “Can’t let that handsome face of yours get stained. And, speaking of stains,” you turned back to the shield, holding it up for the both of you to look at, the soft light from the window above the sink making it shine even more. “You think we got it all?”
“Hmmm. I think you missed a spot.”
Your eyebrows furrowed. “What? Where?”
He leaned closer to the shield, face right besides yours, cheeks practically brushing together. “Right…here.” His hand that you didn’t notice cupping water, came up and splashed your face.
You let out a shriek, stepping back, further into his chest, your jaw dropped. “Steven! My pjs!”
He cackled, leaning back and holding his chest, before gasping when you did the same thing back to him. “You’re on!” He grabbed his shield and filled it with water, making you squeak and try getting out of his hold. Stupid Super Soldier strength. He dumped it on you, water falling on your head, sliding down your back and making your pajamas stick to you. You quickly retaliated, grabbing the facet and turning it towards him, laughing at his shout.
The water fight continued for a few more minutes, bowls and cups coming into play, with Steve diving behind the counter and you slipping on the floor.
“Woah, there, honey!” He chuckled, the chortles coming from your lips reassuring him that you weren’t hurt. He leaned over you, reaching his hand out. “You okay?”
You nodded, taking his hand. “Let’s call it a truce, yeah?”
“Truce? Hell no! I won!”
“You did not! You just got lucky!”
He pulled you up, tugging you close. “Alright, alright. Fine. A truce. Let’s get you into some dry clothes, now. Don’t want you gettin’ sick, honey.”
You shook your head. “That’s actually a myth.”
“I’ll take note of that.”
An eyebrow of yours raised. “In that little notebook you never let me read?”
He smiled innocently. “Maybe. I added something else yesterday.” He informed you while tugging you down the hall to your room.
“Oh?”
“Yeah. Marvin Gaye’s Trouble Man Soundtrack.”
You hummed with an approving nod. “Yeah. That was a good suggestion. Who gave it to you?’
“This guy I met on my run.” He shrugged, heading over to his dresser as you grabbed a couple towels. “Sam Wilson. He seemed like a good guy.”
“Yeah?”
He nodded, grabbed another set of sweats and a shirt, before turning to you and taking the towel you handed him. “Yeah. He served two tours in Afghanistan. Now he’s working down at the VA. Told me to drop by sometime.”
“Aww.” You stood on your tiptoes to ruffle his hair. “My bubba’s all grown up and making friends.”
He rolled his eyes, ducking away from your hand and running his own through his hair. “Yeah, yeah.” His smile dropped as he looked at the clothes in his hand. “I think I’m gonna head out now. I should talk to Fury.”
You frowned. “You have all day, Steve. Just eat first, okay?”
“Okay.”
He was holding something back, you could tell. Picking out your clothes for the day, you decided to question him about it. “What’re you thinking about?”
Your backs turned to each other, you started changing, just as you’d down countless times before. “I was thinking about going to the Air and Space Museum again. If you wanna come.”
“You know I do.”
It was quiet for a few more minutes, only the sound of rustling clothes and zippers filling the air. “I-I think I’m gonna go after. To see her, I mean.”
You froze, keeping your heart and your breathing steady so he wouldn’t pick up on anything. “It’ll be good for you. She…she always knows what to say.”
“So do you.”
You cleared your throat, finishing with the final touches of your outfit. “I actually forgot that I have some stuff to finish up at HQ today, so I dunno if I’ll be able to go-”
His hand grabbed your wrist, turning you around, eyes pleading and face fallen. “Please. Please come with me. Honey. I need you there. With me. Please.”
You inwardly cursed yourself for falling for those puppy eyes, a soft sigh leaving your lips. “Okay, bubs. I’ll come with you.” You might regret it later, but the relief that washed over his features was worth it for now. The power he had over you scared you, especially since you knew he didn’t realize the hold he had on you, but you couldn’t help it. It happened quickly, swiftly, and you were down before you recognized it. And you didn’t know how to deal with it other than taking it one day at a time.
“Let’s go get some breakfast, now. I can promise it’s at least decent.”
The beam he shot you made your heart flutter no matter how hard you tried keeping calm. “I’m sure it’s better than anything I could ever make.” He pulled you close, lips brushing over your forehead. “Thank you.”
“For what?” You sighed, leaning your head against his, eyes closing.
“Existing.”
