Pics from a recent used bookstore expedition + my lil buddy who i miss dearly (he is now comfy at home with his owner who is back from their trip).
Started my pediatric Infectious Disease rotation this week and I am enjoying myself immensely so far. I'm already learning a lot and seeing very interesting pathology. Plus, it's a treat to wake up after 5 am, and I don't have to work weekends, either.

boys i am sleeping now because the migraine has finally bested me but i have been searching for any remnants of a gory sea lion & orca PMV using 'you are the moon' by the hush sound in a semi-realistic style and a tundra setting for hours
i watched it when i was younger and was just reminded of it it but just checked and it was gone. if anyone has any clues as to its wherabouts, or memories of the same PMV please hit me up i remember it VIVIDLY so vividly i could draw it
#tham talks#urgent news#man overbord#or like. missing in action#either way red alert man gone who else remembers this beast of an animatic#i cant cry even when i try but imagining the pmv just now to the music did make me tear up slightly which is a feat#i miss my little guy#pmv is blorbo from my shows but 2014 styel

I had the sweetest little warrior for years. He was my first cat, my son in that way that 8 year olds call any cute thing theirs that sticks with you as you grow. He was a mountain living cat, who would growl at you until you let him out, spend the day patrolling the same paths on the property and spraying the same bushes (he was neutered) and then lay on the sun-baked stones of the driveway until you came home when he'd come greet you round the ankles with a little mrow. He had a cat job and god be damned if anyone kept him from doing it. He was as family as a cat could be—he had his own chair at Thanksgiving.
When he passed last November at 13 1/2, he went quick and in his own fashion, patrolling the property on Sunday, refusing food and resting Monday and Tuesday, and we woke up Wednesday morning to find him in his favorite spot behind the chair by the woodstove, gone probably not 10 minutes prior to us getting up. It was freezing outside and the ground was too hard to dig, and we couldn't really process that he was gone for the first few hours, so we didn't bury him until that afternoon.
I know, of course how death works. He was still warm when I was holding him closing his eyes and smoothing his fur and imagining the peace he felt watching the dawn light starting to break and knowing his humans would be okay if he went. We let the other pets smell him to know what had happened and then I laid him in his favorite position—tucked up with his neck stretched out in dragon pose—and laid him on a towel on my bed and closed the door. I spent the day making a gravestone for him.
When the ground had softened and the tears had stilled from dehydration, we picked a spot and my dad started digging. He needed a proper send off. I couldn't picture just picking him up and taking him out. He was a warrior, a protector, family, the kind of cat that makes you realize why ancient humans revered them as magical and regal creatures. I grabbed a board and a soft blanket and laid them out with him on top. Over his body I laid lavender stems and dried petals from various flowers around my room. I set out candles on it.
I don't have a photo. It didn't feel right. But I will never forget the look on my father and sister's face when I brought him out of my room, and my dad grabbed one side to help me, tearing up. He said, "this is beautiful."
We buried Beast by the driveway, under the bush he always lifted his tail at. Someday we'll grow old and go off to our own plots of soil, and the house will get passed along until it's sold and the roads will change and people will come and go and come and go. He'll stay there watching guard over his lands until an archeologist comes along and brushes dirt off his skull, the same motion my fingers swept between his ears, and sees the ragged cloth of a Beauty and the Beast toy, the samples that show the dust of flower petals in the dirt, the cracked stone that when scanned has the faint imprint of a shaky novice-carved outline of a round face with triangle ears and 3 lines on each side, and knows that he was loved.
