iskwē Entices on Transformative new single, “End Of It All”

iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ (short for waseskwan iskwew, meaning "blue sky woman")’s new release, “End Of It All,” is the follow up to recent single “Sure To Come,” diving into the end of iskwē’s relationship with her ex-wife, one which gave birth to a new beginning as best friends.

First written in Los Angeles with Joey Verskotzi a few years ago as iskwē dealt with a frustrated broken heart while facing the beginning of the unravelling of her marriage, Joey and her collaborated to blend the “frenzy and calm that existed in [iskwē’s] heart at the same time.”

“I was preparing for the end of something special, while simultaneously hoping for a new beginning all with the same person. The evolution of love and friendship,” she explains.

“End Of It All” experienced a further evolution in Mexico City, where iskwē worked with producer 7x Grammy nominee Damian Taylor (Björk, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Bomba Estereo). The two were introduced to Chilean musician, Rulo, who stacked saxophone along with flute performed by Tbird Luv. 

“I found the two instruments really complimented each other, like a conversational back and forth, which was only heightened by an ‘ode to the 90s’ key change midway through the song!” says iskwē.

Speaking of her recent releases, iskwē explains that “these songs really are an inside look at my heart and soul, behind the scenes and behind closed doors - a look I don’t usually offer the outside world. I finally felt ready to open up, to be vulnerable in a new way, and to write the love songs that felt so foreign to me before!”

Based on @munku-collar ‘s collar design, I was itching to draw more Demeter after the Deme and Bomba sketches :3

Thank you, Procreate, for auto recording this. Thought it would be insightful for my followers and friends (I luv u) to be able to see my digital art process. As I did with my Bomba and Deme sketches I lightly traced over the models pose (cut that part out of the video bc it flashed too much for comfort) and then changed it to look more feline and so she was elevated from the ground, positioned more forward , and so her other hand was visible as well.

I used both the model and munku collar’s image as a guide for markings and color palette

I think if I draw her more I’ll get better at drawing her bangs *wink wink*

Historia de vida:

Aquel niño que apareció en las puertas de madera vieja de un orfanato olvidado por todos salvo por personas incapaces de cuidar de sus hijos, con una nota en la que se escribía su nombre, solo eso, el pequeño Jarvin Gravees no tuvo la oportunidad de conocer a sus padres ni otra cosa sobre una vida con familia, ese orfanato fue todo lo que conoció muchos años de vida con todo lo que eso conlleva, los maltratos, el ver a familias venir por los más pequeños y aun siendo él de esos, no lo tomaban a él, lo dejaban como si fuese apestado. Se pudo respetar su nombre pero una mujer del mismo sitio con mucho amor en su corazón le bautizo como Dante, y aunque sus nombres tenían significados muy distintos, esa mujer supo darle la compañía que un niño necesita, apreciando con todo su amor esa figura que imponía en él.

Le enseño a tocar un instrumento para hacer de sus tardes tristes no tan solitarias y con los años dejaban de ser tristes, aquel violín que jamás volvería a tocar cuando dejó el orfanato una mañana gris y fría, se dirigió a aquella tienda donde normalmente los niños iban a buscar cosas para las comidas y volvían pero en el trayecto algo más venía en esa canasta, una carta de una escuela dirigida a Dante, no le puso mucha atención la primera vez, pero llegó doble una tarde bajo sus zapatos y entonces pudo leer con atención, su vida en ese sitio terminaba y comenzaría otra cosa, algo más mágico.

Vida escolar:

La escuela le negó muchas cosas, incluso hizo de su información que solo uno de sus padres fue alumno de la misma escuela, jamás dijeron nombres o quienes fueron y este rasgo mestizó fue causa de muchas situaciones en las que el joven Jay empuñando su varita y tratando de volver los lapices de aquellos bravucones en gusanos, terminaba por no hacer nada parecido, la escuela no lo dejaba tomar clases con magia explicitamente, trató de sobresalir en los deportes pero jamás fue seleccionado a nada. Los clubes, las demás cosas en las que podía implicarse estaba en eso pero jamás había podido destacar incluso su nombre no aparecía en muchos sitios por ser apenas uno más sin relevancia. Lo que no era de su consentimiento era que la escuela trataba de cuidarlo, que su magia podía ser muy poderosa pero también era muy temperamental e inestable y era mejor tenerlo como bajo perfil que en el mundo muggle como una bomba de tiempo.

Vida actual:

Actualmente y tras salir de la escuela de magia sin realmente aportar su nombre a nada y con esta sensación de no saber que hacer con su vida ya que no sabía usar magia, tampoco sabía hacer algo realmente en el mundo donde creció y tampoco lo querían en aquellos trabajos del mundo mágico pues al menos la mayoría requerían que usase cierta destreza en algo respecto a su magia, pero esta no respondía muchas veces y como se vería a alguien sin poder usar magia en una tienda donde se vendían artículos de esta clase. Un desempleado más hasta saber a que dedicar su vida.

Personalidad:

Su personalidad fue antaño nerviosa y tímida, este niño creció con cosas nuevas cada año en toda clase de sentidos y se ponía nervioso con facilidad, ahora hoy día con toda su edad continuaba poniéndose nervioso cuando las cosas lo superaban o la gente tendía a ser más segura que él. Era bastante alegre cuando las cosas iban bien pero tendía a ser pesimista por naturaleza. Se encariñaba mucho con las cosas y las personas lo que lo tenía en una montaña rusa de emociones cuando la gente que conocía se iba o volvía. Casi toda la mayor parte del día se sentía solo, este sentimiento lo reforzaba la música de violin que tanto le gustaba escuchar cuando podía y donde fuese, le traía esta sensación de nostalgia de cuando era feliz y no sabía de nada en la vida sobre magia, peligros, criaturas que podían matarlo o el terror de no tener nada claro.

Tendía a enojarse muy poco pero la mayor parte del tiempo era esta expresión de no saber que hacer, le gustaba reírse y tener amigos aunque estos solían irse cuando llegaban personas mejores a las cuales Jay no podía acceder tan fácil. Le gusta mucho leer y disfruta mucho leer cuentos del mundo mágico, siente que sus padres si hubieran querido le hubiesen leído todos y cada uno de esos cuentos mil veces si es que el pequeño Jay quería, en su mente, no podía guardar rencor a nadie, pero esa traición de cuando alguien en quien debes confiar te miente, es algo que el chico no puede fácilmente asimilar.

Datos extras:

— Su magia es de las mas fuertes y la escuela lo supo, por eso trataron de enseñarle a controlarla pero fue más sencillo mantenerla apagada y dejar que se olvidase por que podía ser muy destructiva sobre todo para el propio Dante, así es como a un gran mago que pudo ser, por seguridad, se decidió negar toda oportunidad.

— Tiene un pequeño sueño en que le gustaría escribir libros para el mundo mágico o tocar el violín para alguna orquesta del mismo mundo, lo mismo para el mundo Muggle.

— Sus padres biológicos son de una familia importante sangre pura (Rowle), pero el chico cree que es mestizo y que su madre fue quien era la que venía a la escuela, de más niño, solía creer que su nombre era uno de aquellos que aparecen en la vitrina de algún trofeo y que era la mas hermosa.

Futuro: En el futuro el gran mago en que se convertiría, un día ese joven adulto tuvo que realizar un encantamiento lo bastante fuerte, su magia poderosa pudo con ello pero continuaba siendo temperamental y esta abandono su cuerpo estallando su varita en mil pedazos y con ello toda clase de errores uno tras otro borrando de toda existencia a este hombre. Se tiene como un trágico accidente de un mago más sin nombre ni apellido, uno más que en el mundo mágico encontraron un refugio pero que como muchos, no pudo contar toda su verdad. O al menos eso fue lo que apareció en un pequeño recuadro en el periódico casi sin tinta, sin importancia.

Estatus de Sangre: Mestizo (En realidad sangre pura).

Monthly Listening: August 2017

The non-2017 album list looks equally long as the 2017 one. Or is it the other way around? Either way, that’s a good thing! I thought August overall brought more exciting new albums than last month. There are more than one rap release I consider memorable, for one. Though I’ll say more albums to shake me up from the latter half of the year would be nice.

The highlights:

So there's always the picking and choosing. Sometimes I'll pick and choose solely on the album art. Sometimes it's something or someone familiar. Or sometimes it's just because my player is set to auto-play a new song after it's finished whatever it's playing.
