five times nico and will are dumb and in love, and the one time they are totally 100% dead serious. i love a good outsider's pov, and this fic is just gorgeous. it's a bunch of different perspectives into solangelo, and it's pure fluff, and it's got some of my favorite solangelo quotes (like, when i read fanfic i screenshot parts i rlly like and i practically screenshotted this entire fic), and their characterization is just so so accurate they're so so in love

And a crush on one Will Solace. i'm such a sucker for socmed au's and this one is done SO so well. my all time favorite. and it's sequel too!! the formatting i am in awe of, but other than that, it's just a really good time and i just love all the little details. i've reread this too many times to count and was SO excited when a sequel was published, and i can only hope that there's more to the au in the future!! (also this author writes incredible solangelo fics and even more valgrace fics which i recently just bingeread and are soo good)

Will Solace is a pre-med student whose friends run a true crime podcast called "Nothing to See Here". Nico di Angelo, despite not realizing he's a missing person, is the subject of one of the episodes. They meet by chance in a random bar, and shenanigans ensue. i mean, if it's got a taylor swift title, i'm already sold. and then it's part of a series called "Hey Stephen is a solangelo song and i will die on that hill" which is the realest thing ever?? but ASIDE from that, i could honestly rec this entire series (+ the other series it's a part of, "Nothing to See Here" which is all part of the same au) and also everything by this author - it's hilarious, i just love the premise, and the writing is so good!! and hey stephen is a solangelo song, thereby reinforcing my "fearless is will's favorite album ever of all time and i will die on this hill" argument

His trials are over; why isn’t he back on Olympus? okay so. this is a bit of a longer fic. and it's a post-toa, pjoxmcga crossover, and it's not *entirely* focused on solangelo - but when i tell you that this fic, if i weren't reading it on ao3, i would truly and full-heartedly believe was a real life published novel - i am NOT LYING. i rec'd this to my friend right after i read it bc i was just like so so obsessed with it and it's literally just. the plot?? is insane. i'm in awe of the author, bc this isn't even the only novel-length fic that they've written with an insane plot too (their fic Eclipse is also phenomenal, but it's more focused on apollo and hades so i didn't rec it here) there's some fierrochase here, lester being lester, and some very very very cute solangelo! and meg! i think sometimes you read a fic and you're like "oh, shit, that could be a novel, and i would think it's better than some actual novels i've read" and this is one of them

I just would like to read some protective Sihtric because i'm a sucker for these things aaah.

i was kind of hesitant about starting lovely runner because based solely on the promos, it seemed like im sol's love for sunjae was purely one-sided affection/adoration and that sunjae would eventually fall in love with the version of sol that time travelled back, but he wouldn't know who she was prior to their first meeting in the past timeline. which was why the ending of episode 2 had such an emotional impact and gave the story so much more depth (both in its tragedy and its romance). this went from a sort of cringy premise of a preposterous idol/fan romance trope to something deeper, more tragic, and more romantic, while not sacrificing genuinely hilarious comedic moments sprinkled throughout. i'm personally a sucker for when the male lead is just pining over the girl, and this is very much exemplary of that. it's not like the "he actually loved her all along" is a new thing in romance, but the way the reveal was done was soooo well-executed and added so much more nuance to the show. in fact, the rest of the show is playing into a lot of tropes, but tropes can be utilized effectively if the execution is done well, which I think episodes 1-4 have nailed thus far.

another thing that i love is that these misunderstandings aren't dragged out. usually the reveal of sunjae saving sol during her accident would've been some big episode 8 revelation (that everyone had long ago predicted lmao) but nope! you're getting that confirmation in episode FOUR and the emotional gut punch is gonna fucking hurt! (because my sister hyeyoon can ACT) or, when the two kiss while she's drunk and he finds out she doesn't remember within the span of one episode. i'm used to this misunderstanding to stew for at least a couple of episodes. i've voiced my concerns about the pacing being "too fast", because in fact, this show is actually paced really well, but is far faster than kdrama standards (which is scaring me a little, in a way that i'm really hoping the plot continues to be this engaging and interesting going forward). based on some minor spoilers from the promos and what fans have noticed from filming, i think we have quite a bit of timeline to get through, so i'll be enjoying every monday/tuesday drop if it continues to keep me engaged in a way no kdrama has in a very long time.

it wasnt really familiar actually.

y/n and beomgyu were in the car, already heading somewhere. beomgyu had told her it's gonna be a surprise, but she wouldnt stop guessing ever since the last 30 minutes, just to get on his nerve.

"no it doesnt,"

beomgyu on the other hand was already sweating, worried if y/n really had figured out the place they're heading to. but from what he remembered, he only took y/n there once, and she even slept throughout the whole car ride.

when they arrived, what she saw made y/n felt teary. it was the daisy field where they once had their hearts broken.

"so do you wanna tell me when did u start liking me?"

they were sitting close to each other, eyes on the scenery in front of them.

"eager, aren't we?" beomgyu teased.

"the very first time i saw you was at the library,"

"yeah, yeah, when i stumbled onto you, right," she rolled her eyes.

"no dumbass, it was before that,"

"when?"

"remember that one time hyuka dolphin-screamed at the library?"

"how could i not? i was so embarrassed. wait, you were there?"

"i was literally at the table beside you,"

"you were? i was so busy being embarrassed, i didnt even notice," she said.

y/n cant help leaning into beomgyu, putting her head into the crook of his shoulder. beomgyu shifted a bit, his other free hand went behind y/n, playing with her hair. once again, she melted into his touch, sighing contentedly.

the situation was too perfect to be real, they felt like staying like that forever.

"i dont really know the exact time i started to have feelings for you, but i definitely already did when you hugged me on the first movie night,"

"ooh, i knew you're a sucker for my hugs,"

"shut up, you liked me first,"

they were surrounded by silence, but none of them paid any mind cause it was a comfortable one. that's how it is around him, she felt right at home.

"so you wanna know why i brought you to the library and book cafe for our first date?"

y/n's head is now on beomgyu's laps. this time, y/n's fingers were playing with his fringe that had fallen and covered a little part of his eyes, since he's bending down to look at her.

"why?"

"i dont want you to associate those places with your embarrassing moments anymore. i want you to remember them as the places we went to for our first date," he said, pulling her by her chin to fully face him.

"also this place? i know it held a painful memory for both of us, such a shame for this beautiful place. so it's only right to make it our happy place again,"

he looked at her so intensely, making her feel like she's the only thing he sees.

"god, i know this is long overdue, but im so in love with you, choi beomgyu" she said.

maybe it was the way y/n's looking at him? or was it the way she called him by his full name? what ever it is, it made beomgyu's heart skipped a beat.

"finally you said it, i love you too, y/n,"

she saw beomgyu almost leaned in, but stopped halfway.

"so, are you my... you know, girlfriend now?" the sight of beomgyu getting shy is so rare to y/n, but she didnt want to ruin the moment, so she made a mental note to make fun of him later.

"of course, silly. so now, please continue what ever you were doing just now,"

beomgyu finally leaned in completely, his lips meeting y/n's nose first, making her giggle. his lips slowly traveled towards hers, both of them smiling into the kiss. the kiss was a slow and gentle one, but just enough to show how much they love each other.

TOS 3:12 The Empath

Just a visually stunning episode, I love the set design and the costume they made for Gem. I think the story is ok but the vibes are impeccable.

TOS 1:28 The City on the Edge of Forever

Ok this one IS objectively one of the best episodes. Heartbreaking story, good character moments, and I always love a good time travel ep. Also the tension between kirk&spock&edith is insane, like a drama but with spacemen, what’s not to love

TAS 1:02 Yesteryear

UNDERRATED episode bc nobody wants to watch tas which is understandable I GUESS. Spock goes back in time and basically parents his younger self because no one else is gonna fuckin do it. Lots of spock backstory, some gorgeous background paintings of Vulcan, plus we meet spock’s pet sehlat I-Chaya. Written by DC Fontana, who also wrote journey to Babel and thus fleshed out much of Spock’s family dynamics and backstory.

TOS 2:09 Metamorphosis

Not a super popular episode and I understand why but I just go back to it a lot bc it’s very pretty and I’m a sucker for an unconventional space romance ☺️

TOS 1:04 The Naked Time

I’ve been surprised to see this episode rank lower on other trek lists bc I feel like it’s such quintessential Star Trek. And idk there’s just something very special about everyone slowly losing their minds in space

When I’m showing people trek for the first time a lot of the time I’ll start with this episode because I feel like it’s a good mix of fun&dramatic and also gives us a good window into the main characters’ personalities. And of course there’s the spock breakdown which is one of my favorite moments of the series (sorry Spock). There’s a very long post here (thanks @el-im!) about that scene which was basically conceived by nimoy himself and which I think is very important in establishing spocks character early in the series!!

Yea I figured that chocolates thing was a misdirect. A little part of me did hope they were from Ricky but I knew better than to flat out assume hahaha. As I mentioned in my bullet points...I really don’t know what they’re doing with Rini. I do remind myself this is a Disney show that relies on cute/cheesiness so I’m more inclined to think they’re doing the romantic trope with Rini I mentioned but...I don’t know.

it's kingdom time for real!!! the first episode is here and mnet finally uploaded the stages from like a month ago so i can actually watch them more than once to review.

happy to see them all actually performing. not the most interesting stages overall, but it was the 100sec one-take so i wasn’t expecting anything crazy. like the performance stages, this is about what i expected at this point in the show.

ranking under the cut, i have Opinions(tm) and they are not all pretty.

(anyone that’s seeing this for the first time, i’m a trained performance designer with over 30 credits and a decade of experience, yes i can talk about this with authority)

a few general notes:

this type of stage that mnet has built is called a traverse, or alley, stage. named exactly for the reason you think. it’s characterized by a narrow playing space with audience on opposite sides, and two entrances on either end. so mnet had a pretty typical setup. there are some advantages to this type of stage:

because of the narrow stage space and usually smaller audience capacity, the performer and audience are in much closer proximity

because of the shape of the space, blocking (choreography but for not-dance) can travel well and be very dynamic

it’s uncommon outside of midsize/small productions so there’s some novelty for the casual theatre goer

however! there are some pitfalls with this type of stage. the hardest type of stage to work with is (theatre) in the round. theatre in the round is characterized by being....in the round. that means the audience is placed 360 degrees around the playing space. which means that they can see everything; every entrance, every exit, every performer’s back, 360 degree sightlines means there is nowhere to hide. and in a medium that relies on concealment to create magic, it’s a tough stage to work with. not saying it doesn’t work. some of the most incredible shows i’ve been to have been theatre in the round, but when you go to those type of shows, as an audience member you understand that there will be some scenes where you only see the actors’ backs. there is no perfect seat in the round. the reverse is true as well, the actors can only act to those in front of them. and like i stated previously, on the production end it becomes difficult to hide things like props/set/costume changes that you might have been able to in another type of theatre. why am i talking about theatre in the round? because traverse works on exactly the same principle. even though the audience is only on two sides, the same issues still arise. directionality is key: a director has to be careful of how exactly the stage gets blocked.

why am i talking about stage formats? because the space always informs the performance, that’s why. i think mnet made a sort of smart choice to build a traverse stage. since the ‘audience’ is a video camera, that eliminates the need to play to the opposing seating banks, and opens up more staging opportunities. it’s a fancy looking stage that does what they need it to. 

now here’s my gripes. if you’re going to specifically orient a stage so that it is by nature directional, why are you broadcasting in a format where direction doesn’t matter? if the camera has no fixed position, then you’ve just skipped directly into in the round staging without taking into account the function of the space. it's a round peg in a square hole; yes it fits, but you can see the spaces where it doesn’t quite match up. for a very obvious example, any shot that is not staring directly down the barrel of the stage from left or right has audience in it. and not enough to be worthy of a reaction shots (because those are just cut in in post), but enough to just be there. why would you do that when you could just.....not? just go properly in the round and then you wouldn’t have that distraction. especially when the audience is wearing white. also, there are only so many ways you can stage on a traverse, you’re pretty much limited to directional points on a compass, because there are literal risers in the way. because of the way most groups are choreographed, the member layouts lean more towards having the members in a line than they do layering the members deep. this configuration is fine on a proscenium stage (which is what most stages are), and would even be fine on a traverse stage if you were playing to the risers. you could even do some interesting choreo alterations. but! because mnet has decided that the camera is perpendicular to the risers, that means that most of the formations are not optimized for the stage dimensions and are in fact the opposite dimensions. most of these groups are doing their longest blocking across the shortest area of stage, which is dumb. although it isn't much of a problem because the stage is still very large, but it's still a bizarre choice on behalf of mnet. why would you not arrange the stage so you have more clearance for the camera, the audience, and also the performers? i would have to check back over the rtk performances, but im pretty sure at one point they switch to an in the round stage. why are you not doing that from the start? this would also allow for more built setpieces. although it does remain to be seen if they do switch after this episode, since this particular challenge was a one-take with minimal props/set pieces. which segues to my next point: these groups barely took up the parameters of the challenge, or utilized them effectively! this is also mnet’s fault, mnet if you say that you’re gonna do a one-take, don't cut between seven other cameras!! show us the power of that single point of view! let the groups actually do some interesting blocking with the path of the camera! there’s so many interesting things they could have done, but no!! had to be boring!! i know this is technically an introductory stage, but i also don't care. these groups have (relatively) competent ADs and stylists, they can think outside the box.

ok now here’s my actual rankings:

1. btob

sorry babies, none of you can match them vocally. love you ateez but you sure fucked up picking them to go after you because they blew you out of the fucking water. and everyone else, but ateez cumulatively is the weakest vocally. more on that later. like the performance stage they showcased their strengths and the experience (and training) shows. good use of the directional stage having three vs one that came together in the middle. loved the white suit variations, im especially a sucker for a belted suit jacket. loved peniel's gigantic trench and massive earrings, very mid 90s, his stylist definitely took a lesson in how to accessorize very short hair. always love good use of fog. uniform colour theme, all elements were there to support the vocals. no complaints, chef’s kiss.

2. ikon

hey baby groups? see bobby having fun? do that more. i know you think performance face is sexy and serious but none of you know how to act and you all look dead inside on stage. the lights may be on but nobody’s home. anyways. excellent beginning formation, excellent ending formation, no complicated position changes that make the camera give you motion sickness. fun choreo that they are obviously having fun performing, which goes sooooo far in the success of a performance. only group so far to use silence as an effective device, and the arrangement was interesting and suited to the song+performance. i think it was smart of them not to deploy bobby right away, although it would have been funny to watch after whatever it was that stray kids was trying to do. again, like btob and also sf9, sticking to their strengths. costumes fun and fitting, indicative of both the colour of the group and of the song. nice detail in the monochrome and the black accent details.

3. sf9

taeyang is that bitch and they only way this would have been better is if he had actually grabbed the ties of those two other members (if you think i am going to remember anyone's names other than the people i already know you are wrong). love the confidence to waste a good chunk of your 90 seconds for walking and standing in formation. actual good use of one-take directional camera, even though they ruined it once they started dancing. choreo perfectly fine, lighting good complementary colour scheme, costumes nothing to write home about, surprisingly good projection design? wasn’t expecting that. im not the biggest fan white suit jackets over black shirts but ill give it a pass for the proper suit accessorizing.

4. ateez

i applaud your dedication to the pirate gimmick but boys you don't need that anymore, i promise. hongjoong's lil bloody cough was a fun gag that didn't draw too much attention but fit with the theme. came out of the gate strong with an actual clear narrative, which can be a challenge to do in 100 seconds, and the only group to have a narrative. also actual camera choreo! that was interesting! mnet stop fucking cutting to overhead shots! apparently im destined to always be beefing with the ateez stylists because what was the point of all that? very little variation in texture or pattern on matte all black just made any relevant details disappear. torch gimmick and end formation fun, and the arrangement had an obvious climax. weird and kinda fun projection design, but not helped by concert-style stage lighting. pick one or the other lighting designer, don't make them fight like that! props to them for actually having their mics on the whole time, even though they are probably the weakest group vocally. im also going to be beefing with the choreographer because they are always making seonghwa sing while doing ridiculous moves that make him go offkey. ateez has some of the stronger 4th gen vocals, but they're at a disadvantage because a) none of them have proper vocal training, and b) their main vocal is not actually a skilled singer and is destroying his voice.not a lot of vocals for them to showcase this stage and that was probably for the best. hanya (@changdyke) is in charge of vocals critique and will have more to say about this than me, even though i am also trained. im just here to talk about the production.

5. the boyz

im neutral to positive on tbz because i did really like their danger stage from rtk. this performance is just....fine. I don’t like the arrangement, but that's mostly personal opinion. but it doesn't have a conclusive end and the whole dissonance thing isn't really working for me in this instance. the choreo is quite flippy and tricking is not necessary for an interesting choreo. i did like the throwback/use of modern choreo, i think that's a strong choice for them and it's not something that many other groups are doing, so they should stick more to that than to tricking. the camera choreo is also not good. here’s where the clearance issues and fighting against the stage layout happen! stop making a handheld do a 180! are you trying to make us motion sick? to be fair, this is not the most egregious one, but at least ateez got it right by having a person lead the camera in a particular pattern. also, what even is the theme here? leatherclad boys in the forest? nobody give me any shit saying it's based off one of their music videos or whatever, that shouldn't matter. there should be a clear theme that can be easily identified without prior knowledge of the group, especially when this is an introductory stage and they are a relatively young group. none of the other groups have this issue. that being said, at least the costumes were interesting to look at, although thematically confusing. good use of accessories, texture, and bedazzling to make the black stand out against the stage. the hands in front of the camera were kind of fun but didnt really mean anything? again, back to the lack of clear concept. i did like them reaching out to pull that member forward, it would have been better if they had just left it at that.

6. stray kids

the more i watch this the more i hate it. im not even sorry about it anymore. starters, and i will admit this upfront: i do not like most 4th gen music, so the spiderman meme groups are already operating on a deficit in my point of view. and i particularly did not like this arrangement. same as with tbz, why did it not have a conclusive end? also overuse of sound effects. and stop saying your fucking band name! the only musician that’s allowed to do that is jason derulo and thats because hes a meme now. but twice in 100 seconds? no. and what was the point of that logo/crown reveal? im tired of crown reveals we have seen them so many times by now, we don't need to see it again. was it meant to be that they were carving it into the ground?? very unclear. there was an attempt with camera choreo, and i will admit that the pan up and then back down to the ‘wolf pack’ was probably the strongest moment in the whole performance. the lights were in their mouths, by the way. however, the rest of the choreo is all over the map, quite literally. as with tbz there’s a lot of members in the group and so in order for everyone to get their screen time they break down into smaller groups, which i don't disagree with on principle, but here.........the breakdowns are just tricking, which although eyecatching, does not a very compelling or cohesive choreo make. even the unison choreo is weird, obviously its stylized horror but it just looks awkward and strange. you can make awkward/unattractive choreo work (see taemin’s want, or even move, to some extent)***, but skz doesn't have an ounce of the charisma that taemin has so it just looks awkward. also, that rapid switch between opposite sides of the stage? nausea inducing. ateez was the one with the pirate concept but skz apparently trying to make us seasick. im not gonna say anything about that rap other than it was bad, why was that allowed on stage. the sparkthrower was fun but that's like the 14th gimmick in this 100 second stage and that’s too many gimmicks. costumes are truly nothing to write home about, extremely unclear relation to the theme. if you're gonna be wolves then at least have some fur accents or something. the makeup effects were a bit over the top and not necessary in the actual performance. a hairdresser needs to thin out felix’s hair because he looks like he's wearing one of those lego hair helmets. oh, i did like that one guy’s shirt with the collarbone cutout, but again: how is that relevant to the theme? cmon people!!!! design the whole experience!! im sure there’s more i could write but holy shit this is long and im tired and also i don't want to watch this stage anymore.

ok im done. jesus this is long. again, this is just the intro stage so i suspect that some of my complaints will become null next week, but we’ll have to see! well, what i actually want to see is changmin insulting children but i’m not holding out hope for that to happen. hopefully we see some more spectacle-y stages and i can really go in.

***this is not me saying that taemin has a bad choreo that he’s making the best of. want is purposefully choreographed that way in order to showcase taemin’s ability. same with move. the point of want is that it IS awkward and should not be seductive or appealing and yet it still is. almost like....it’s in the name of the song or something.....

Things done in fanfic that annoy me? i dont know if this counts as a specific to the ship bc i see it kind of in all fics w these characters but people write hinata and kageyama as stupid. and they are, but people write them as the wrong kind of stupid. like idk how to explain it exactly like hinata is not the sharpest tool in the shed by any means but he has a lot of interpersonal intelligence and kageyama is also an idiot but he's also very introspective and idk people just write them as very one dimensional a lot and im :/ about it

Things I look for in fanfic? uhhhhhh a lot of it is avoiding the aforementioned issues but beyond that i am looking for oblivious pining. i am looking for two young gay idiots doing the absolute worst flirting imaginable. i am looking for hinata and kageyama thinking "you mean everything to me, i couldn't have made it this far without you, the idea of leaving you behind makes my heart ache, i can't bear the thought of you not being in my life" and then doing absolutely NOTHING about it (until they do ofc)

Im going to put literally the entire thing with Cinder under one note; Called it.

Its a great set of stuff, sure, but it doesnt relaly tell us anything we didnt already know about Cinder, and I personally feel it doesnt really explain why she turned out the way she did. I feel like we’ve had another weird twist of the situation again...M+K? Coronas fault? Who knows. Either way, this section isnt great by my taste and I kinda skipped most of it. 

Few things to note though; Apperently in Mistral scrubbing by hand is still more viable floor cleaning tech than using Dust.

The wind vane on the roof has the Rooster Teeth symbols rooster on it. 

The hotel Cinder is bought by is named the Glass Unicorn, fittingly enough for...several reasons. 

The coffees behind the stepsisters when we first see them are the animated versions of the real life stuff RT put out just before this season went live. 

No one seems to notice the fact cinder has orange eyes. I wonder if weird eye colors are just a THING in Remnant?

The control collar/shock thing is incredibly inefficient in design, since it doesnt actually hold on to her very well. A more effective brace/choker design would have worked better.

The song that goes on during all of this is...kind of obvious and a little bland? Fitting for younger Cinder I guess.

I think this is the first time we’ve seen the other side of the moon. Or at least, the proper other side...bloody hell I STILL dont know how all those piesces are still held in place, the thing looks like it should start yeeting bolides at Remnant. 

Better still we see it MOVE, rotate in time to the passing of years. So it literally does rotate on its own axis, and more importantly, unlike OUR moon, its NOT tidally locked. We only ever see the same side of our moon. REmnants rotates MUCH faster. Also it doesnt seem to have phases like ours does. I’ll check on why that is. 

Well at least we have an explanation for why Cinders so damn good at fighting people. Trained by an Atlas Huntsman.

Also as a note the device is quite literally just an electrical Dust crystal attached to a necklace. Things the most inefficent torture device Ive ever fucking seen.

favourite episode and why: Su-Zakana! the horse episode! Very gross but I love Peter! Hannibal’s outfits are stunning! Will being an elegant bisexual. We get to meet Margot! “How would you do it?” “With my hands.” I ALSO! Think! That Will is more sad in this episode than he is in all previous episodes. He just got out of being institutionalized for a year, having lost his teaching job. He meets Peter and gets reminded that he’s been abused in the same way. As sexy as the “how would you do it” scene is, I really think Will has no clue what he wants to do with Hannibal. After a year of being separated by bars and chains, he’s finally so close enough to wrap his hands around his throat and once he gets there I don’t think he knows what he would do next, but his whole body would be on fire while he did it. (honorable mention for hannibal petting the sheep) oh and the hands! Will is desperately trying to tune out hannibal. he doesnt want to see him or listen to him because he’s right!! THEN! Hannibal stopping the hammer of Will’s gun and brushing their fingers to directly mirror hannibal and clarice in silence of the lamb! I will never get over Hannibal just holds Will at the nape of his neck and gets so close. when will finally looks at him he’s met with hannibal smiling and looking at him with pure adoration and it kills will so bad that his internalized homophobia jumped out in the next episode where he dreams about hannibal telling him he loves him and has to kill him in the dream because its the only scenario where hannibal would stop loving him and he knows that and it kills him. 

least favourite episode and why: probably Ouef because it feels like a crime procedural more than any of the other episodes and child death / abuse makes me very sad : ( also not gay enough

favourite main character: i hate all these people but probably Will because im a repressed psychotic bisexual who doesnt know whats going on ever. 

favourite side character: freddie all the way. she hates cops, loves drama, and hannibal loves her website and who am i to argue with the guy who has the most taste in the whole show? seems kinda cringe to hate her tbh

if you could bring back one character who died, who would it be: abigail! i think she shouldve been able to escape everyone and heal and cut her hair and live in the twin cities and find a girl that kisses her under the minnehaha falls ice cave! 

dish prepared in the show that you would like to try eating/making: the black chicken soup sounds really good. ive actually been wanting to order the ingredients since soups are my jam and i cook all the time and have enough faith in myself to get it right. 

which side character would you kill off: theres nobody alive that i wouldnt want to stay alive. but i wish we wouldve gotten the scene that they cut of cassie boyle blowing cigarette smoke in hannibal’s face that sounds so funny and on track with the people i know who go to the U of M duluth. 

was there any scene that you didn’t like to look at: when will and hannibal look at eachother im just like “turn this shit OFF”

biggest ship: how about FRIENDships, i say kicking the hannibal x will fics im writing under the rug. i think will and margot shouldve bonded more and i wish peter was a recurring character who was best friends with will and had pet play dates. will deserves people that care about him!!

why did you start watching hannibal: i originally started watching it cuz i used to be friends with a will graham kinnie but then i got bored and hopped off after the 3rd episode but this summer i sat down and watched it with my wife and we had no spoilers and went nuts the whole time it was great. 

favourite fic if you’ve read any: We Killed a Dragon Last Night by inameitlater along the two other fics in that series. it’s absolutely devastating and im a sucker for time travel / groundhog day kinda stuff and dark will!! it’s great you gotta read it if you havent. 

have you watched any of the hannibal films: yes! after watching manhunter i realized that bryan fuller really did all this cuz will was hot in that movie. there was also a very tender moment between will and dr bloom that i really liked. anthony hopkins is also very good at being a creepy little man and his tiktok account is so damn funny.

have you read the thomas harris books: i’ve read Red Dragon and i wish they but more nasty will in the show where he’s an asshole and cussing. i think its weird that none of the adaptations do a good job and showing will has a shitty marriage and has a temper and him and molly were drifting apart cuz her family hates him cuz he’s nuts and it makes him mad and sad that he cant have anything happy after hannibal. 

favourite murder tableau: probably the heart but when it unravels and starts to like stalk toward will. i think its a good metaphor of will being terrified of hannibal’s love for him

favourite blood spill: margot and alana killing mason. it made me very happy the whole time. 

what’re some of your headcanons: jimmy price has a bee keeping husband and thats why he had bee facts, will is trans and abigail is trans but they’re awkward and uncomfortable so they never feel comfortable to tell the other or how to bring it up cuz they dont want the other to think they’re more weird than they actually are, they both vent about this to hannibal who says “oh gee oh wow what a dilemma” and some shit about butterflies and doesnt help at ALL.

hopes for s13 and brief review of s12?

okok ik s12 just aired but--- hear me out skjskyjs

i really liked this season, wouldn't say i loved it, but still liked it. we got a proper storyline unlike in s11 and some(?) character development, the soundtrack was good - which it also was in s11 - and i loved that they brought the master back.

yet i cant help but be quite annoyed about some things in this season.

the master:

like i said i loved that they brought the master back BUT how can we not have missy mentioned at least once. if this master is an incarnation after missy he for sure would have mentioned her at least once to spite the doctor and hurther even more by her having failed missy or something like that. and if he was an incarnation before missy i'm pretty sure that the doctor would have mentioned her at least once. it just feels like everything that missy hat going for her during s9/10 got thrown out of the window and i highkey do not like that.

i really hope that in s13 we will get some closure on that because i don't really believe we've seen the last of the master yet.

angst? things?

something that bothered me and a lot of others with the doctor in s11 was that it felt like the doctor lacked something the other new who doctors always had and that had just become part of the doctors character over the years.

i'm talking about the darkness, the anger, the sadness.

and i know we got some of that in s12 which i LIVED for btw because i am a huge sucker for angst. but (i'm going to use this word so much in this blog thingy skjs) we never really had an anger moment that made one go "oh damn" like we had with the previous doctors. i mean matt smith had one of those moments in his second episode.remember how he had this cold anger towards amy for pressing the forgot button about the starwhale situation because she didn't want the doctor to have to make a decision - so basically making the decision for him - and how he then screamed at everyone in fury. those are the kinds of moments im talking about and i feel like we haven't had one of those with the thirteenth doctor yet. (i love her anyways because i am basically whipped for her but still)

and i know many, many people like exactly that about her and say that it's refreshing to see a doctor that didn't embody those things and this is obviously just my opinion. i just feel like the doctor isn't really the doctor withthout some characteristics and that's one of them. (maybe its just me growing up with him always being like that that makes me miss it so much now)

and this is definitely not jodies fault because she's a great actress and more than capable of doing a scene like that - she just wasn't given the right material to work with.

the companions:

so this will be quite short because i only have two things to say

1. character development.

it's been two seasons and i'm still not quite sure what kind of people yaz, graham and ryan are and thats just-- not good.

i think they introduced too many characters at the same time and thats why they could barely pull of any character development. would've enjoyed it more if they did something like in s5 where amy travels alone with the doctor for half the season - we get an idea of who she is, ect - and then properly introduced rory.

2. HUGS

where are the good old hugs? thirteen deserves a hug and if she goes of the show without being higged at least twice i will RIOT and steal chris chibnalls identity to rewrite doctor who.

the only hug thirteen got was when she hugged najia khan. yaz' mum. like---

okay so if there is one hope i have for the next season that i want to happen more than any of the others it's

DO NOT KILL THE FAM OFF

not because i love them so much (i mean i do love them but--)

but because its getting quite boring at this point.

the last three companions have all been (more or less) killed off in some way. amy and rory being taken by the weeping angels and dying of old age, clara being killed by the raven thing, bill being converted into a cyberman.

don't even need a huge donna situation. maybe just have them go on their own, deciding it'd be better to stay home now, like martha did in the end of s3.

that'd be refreshing.

i'm exited for how theyll decide to let the fam go especially since there are rumors that tosin (ryan) and bradley (graham) will be leaving the series.

maybe have ryan realize that all of that traveling is too risky for him after all and that he wants to stay in sheffield and have graham stay with him because he wants to look out for his grandson.

i don't know what to do with yaz tbh because i doubt they'd keep her as a companion for three full seasons with that little character development, ect. maybe have her stay and then go mid-season? idk

regeneration:

i think we all know its coming. the doctor is probably going to regenerate at the end of s13 or around the christmas/new years special. and while i'm not ready to let her go yet because i feel like they could do so much more with her character and i just lover her so much, i don't think they'll make her stay for four seasons. the longest run any doctor had was three seasons so thats why i'm assuming she's going in s13. (i dont fucking want her to go i cant - - - - -)

so if they make her regenerate i hope that they'll do two things:

have her have a memorable speech, doesn't have to be as deep and heart clenching as the one 12 had (i'm still crying about it) but maybe something along the lines of 10 would be nice. but just beacuse i love angst.

the other thing i'm hoping for is that she won't regenerate into a man just yet. not because i want to push some fEmInIsT aGeNdA but because i feel like there are many things that can still be explored with a female doctor - ESPECIALLY HISTORY WISE. yeah we got some of that during the with trials (was that the episodes title? not sure) in season 11 but 1 episode out of 372802275110 (ok i just smashed the numbers on my keyboard but still). have her explore some more of the struggles women in the past had to go and sometimes still go through.

Both of us were sobbing; it was a horrid gritty sensation; and both of us temporarily lost the ability to smell bc of that shit. My mother came rushing in; and I blamed it on my niece, and got away with it... Yeah. Don’t do sherbet or drugs, kids, it’s fucking painful.

Timeless Writers Appreciation Post

As I (im)patiently await episode 2x07, I just wanted to express my appreciation to the amazing writers who have given us one of the best Season 2s in television history.  What have they given us, you ask?

(Warning this is lengthy…)

History Lessons They Don’t Teach You in School – In nearly every episode, the main historical character is a person who doesn’t get a lot of “press” in the history books or biographical movies. Their stories are both educational and inspiring.  What other show gives you that week to week?

Character Exposition – Season two has given us more insight into the backstories of the supporting cast (Jiya, Connor, Carol and soon Denise and Emma).  Sometimes they are just a few lines in a scene, but when possible they intertwine their stories with the main plotline, and they do it beautifully. (I’m looking at you, Connor.)

Intriguing Antagonists– Flynn, Carol and possibly now Emma (?) are not your typical “bad guys”.  They are not villains for the sake of the story needing villains. They have backstories where they have experienced love and loss. They have moments where you see regret in their eyes, words and actions.  They show a need for acceptance and interaction with other humans.  They make you question if everything is as simple as black and white or good and evil. They make you FEEL, which is weird and refreshing at the same time.

Riya Front & Center – I would never disrespect Rufus and Jiya by calling their relationship the “B storyline” or “B ship”, because it is not.  Their relationship has perhaps progressed faster than Wyatt and Lucy’s, but it has gone through the same natural path that most couples experience – with the additional touch of supernatural tendencies, because let’s face it, they’re proud nerds, who do such storylines justice.

Lyatt Sex – (I fully admit that I’m a sucker for romance – sue me.)  I LOVED how slowly the writers developed Wyatt and Lucy’s relationship throughout Season 1, because I don’t think that lightning strikes most couples at first sight. Instead there is a spark of curiosity/interest (“Ma’am”, smirks), empathy for a personal loss (Jessica, Amy), build-up of trust (“I agree with you, but I trust her”/”I trust you”) and potential deal-breaking barriers (guilt and obsession over wife’s death). But conversely, I APPRECIATED how once Wyatt became open to possibilities, they quickly progressed their relationship in 3 episodes! Most of my ships took 3 seasons to get the bedroom.  

Lyatt Express to Endgame – (Yes, I know we’re still in the midst of this drama, but I have faith that we’ll be at resolution soon, so I’m calling it now.)  I know a lot of people were upset that less than a day after that beautiful morning after scene, it all seemed to go to hell, but I believe that when Wyatt and Lucy reunite, we’ll be grateful Jessica showed up when she did.  

Let’s pretend for a second, that Jessica didn’t show up until this season’s finale. Lucy and Wyatt would have had months of love and bliss, and then his wife shows up.  First of all, we would have had to spend the entire summer hiatus (or forever) fretting over what would happen next.  Secondly, it would have been harder (and even more painful) for Wyatt and Lucy to make the decisions that they did, because they would have had a stronger foundation to put at risk. Which leads me to…

Character Growth for Wyatt – Say what you will about Wyatt, but I wholeheartedly believe that he made the right (and healthy) choice. Even though he was ready to move on with Lucy, the memories of Jessica and how she died were going to haunt his subconscious even if he and Lucy got married and lived happily ever after. You know that “It’s a Wonderful Life” trope where you get to have a glimpse of a key “what if” scenario? Thanks to time travel, he was given the opportunity to find out for sure, and – not-even-close-to-a-spoiler alert – it won’t turn out well.  He and Jessica will realize that although they love each other, their time has passed. Wyatt will achieve closure and be free to move on to his future. (And Lucy will never feel like she’s competing against a ghost.)

Character Growth for Lucy – Lucy is hands-down my favorite female television character.  She has an accomplished career, and she is a faithful friend, daughter and sister. She’s stubborn, principled and strong, but she’s also not afraid to show her vulnerability and emotion.  I am grateful that the writers write her as such a complex, yet relatable character.  They allowed her to be selfless for the sake of Wyatt’s happiness, hopeful that they could still be friends, snarky when her personal space was invaded by their new bunkermate and self-preserving when the pain became too much. We are BLESSED to have this character exist in our lifetimes.

Phenomenal Casting – I’m not sure how much of this credit goes to the writers, but the primary reason that their writing works is because of the actors who are chosen to say their words and emote their actions. From the main cast to the guest stars, everyone is perfect for their roles.  All I can say to that is “Bravo”.

It’s not uncommon for the second season of a TV show to stray a bit and even end up a little lost, but that’s not the case for Timeless.  If anything, they became more focused and succinct, becomes sometimes it takes a second chance at life to find your true mettle. The creators and writers knew these last 10 episodes could be their final bow, but they promised not to write the season as if it was the end, and they delivered.  If they don’t get a Season 3, it will be an absolute travesty to network television.

I’m ALWAYS doing asks!! But I gotta say you GOT ME WITH THIS ONE FLORA THIS IS HARD FOR ME. That being said I’ve decided to stick with Crystal, since that is where my heart lies in this fandom. This took me a while and it’s gonna be IN DEPTH. I will start from the beginning (might be slightly out of order)

• The moment they first meet. You know what I mean• When Usagi first meets Ami! I love when she first meets all the Senshi and I’ll explain why individually. When Usagi first meets Ami she immediately notices how shy and reserved she is and works to bring her out of her shell and I LOVE that!! Since Usagi has been shown to blush every time she meets Mamo-Chan early on, I think this is really the first time we see them interact normally. And I LOVE IT • “Are you in middle school too?” “No, I’m a high school student” *whips out ID* • When Usagi defends Rei after she gets accused of the disappearances• That moment when Jadeite can’t figure out why he’s so attracted to an unconscious Rei• The entirety of Masquerade Dance Party. 10/10 my favorite episode in Crystal AND the Original anime, this is the ep that solidified that I NEEDED to invest myself in this story. Literally pulled out of my fantasy dreams • That moment at the end of the same ep when we see Mako-Chan for the first time with her ADORABLE umbrella• When Usagi is stalking Mako-Chan from the tree and sneaks up behind her bench and sees her cute bento and decides she MUST be friends with her. She sees through this tough exterior that everyone talks about and promptly decides to befriend her • When Tuxedo Mask appears in Usagi’s bedroom window to get her to save the day• When Nephrite is like I’ve seen this look before right as he gets ATTACKED• When Usagi bumps into Mamoru on the street and he’s SO clearly attracted to her and Mako-Chan is like USAGI ARE YOU BLUSHING afterwards• When Usagi almost passes out in the street and Tuxedo Mask just HAPPENS to be there and gives her the most romantic pep talk ever• And proceeds to bring her back to his apartment after the battle• The whole reveal scene(which you rewrote amazingly in Ikigai I might add)• When Usagi is kissing the pocket watch and Mamoru is kissing the handkerchief • “I want you Usako” • VENUS VENUS VENUS• Usagi is SO star struck when she meets Sailor V and is even more thrilled that she’s her Princess!!!• And Usagi assures her that she doesn’t have to fight alone anymore• The moment in the park where Mamoru is so ashamed that he can’t even LOOK at Usagi and then winks at her, “Yeah, next time”• The kiss before Sailor Moon was 100% ready to give her life to save her friends(then you know what happened)• I’m ashamed to say I love to hate the moment where Sailor Moon just starts screaming painfully after Tuxedo Mask is DEAD I cry without fail every time• SERENITYS FIRST APPEARANCE •FLASHBACKS IM A SUCKER FOR THE FLASHBACKS• “I descended to that planet, time and time again, just hoping to catch glimpses of him”(officially my favorite quote in the series)•When the Shitennou can’t figure out why they recognize Tuxedo Mask• When Venus reminds the girls that they too, at one point, had been in love• When the Shitennou REMEMBER THEIR PASTS• The entire final battle with Queen Metallia, where Usagi uses all her power to defeat her with Mamo-Chan right behind her the whole time• The Senshi giving their lives so Usagi might save them all• The girls reunion on the bridge after the battle!!• The park scene where Usagi gives him back his pocket watch and Mamo-Chan gives her back her handkerchief • When Chibiusa tries to cheer up Usagi after some of the girls were kidnapped• Skipping ahead, PLUTOS FIRST APPEARANCE I LOVE PLUTO• The way you think Pluto is gonna be mad at Chibiusa for time traveling but is then just relieved to see her alive and well• Seeing Diana for the first time!! I love that kitten!!• The way Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask are so utterly CONFUSED to see future versions of themselves • That awkward moment when they realize Chibiusa is in fact their daughter • Skipping ahead again, FIRST APPEARANCE OF HARUKA AND MICHIRU(aka the Hot couple)• When Usagi and Mamo-Chan are kinda having relationship issues and don’t end up talking about it until Chibiusa makes them both stay at his apartment to help her with a project • When Chibiusa PRETENDS to be asleep Bc she KNOWS they need to talk• The three of them sleeping in the same bed • Pluto’s EPIC comeback “My name is Setsuna Meiou, nice to meet you” (no joke I SCREAMED when I first saw the end of that ep!!) And her just jumping into battle in the next ep• Usagi just wanting all the Sailor Guardians to fight together • SUPER SAILOR MOON• Usagi literally jumping into the abyss to save the world• At the end of Episode 39 when the girls are all excited for high school and there’s that REALLY pretty animation with the cherry blossoms

And I think that just about covers it! I love this show so dearly and I’m currently rewatching it AGAIN. I seriously cannot wait until we get the rest of this series so I may ADD to this list. Thanks for the ask Flora!
