it's inevitable that i try to build a muse a pokemon team to explore aspects of them, and some that i've settled on for herc are obvious. at least to me they are.
Pyroar — His signature pokemon. He's the lion of olympus. For a bit I considered luxray here instead with its electric typing and how I could tie that to Zeus, but pyroar won over for the pure aesthetic of it. It's the only line that can learn noble roar, which is fitting.
Tyranitar — Its body can't be harmed by any sort of attack, so it is very eager to make challenges against enemies. Pretty similar to Herc’s invulnerability and his battle-rage. Tyranitar can cause immense destruction when it rages, just like Herc. Also considered tyrantrum here, but tyranitar fit better for its invulnerability and its rages.
Slither Wing — Fighting type, a literally ancient pokemon. Plus, volcarona’s design origin being that of the atlas moth is another little tidbit that I think works well. In ancient history, Hercules handled Atlas' job for him to complete one of his labors, and in real life, the atlas moth is one of the largest in the world. One of the few to beat the atlas moth in sheer size is ... the hercules moth.
Primeape — When Primeape becomes furious, its blood circulation is boosted. In turn, its muscles are made even stronger. However, it also becomes much less intelligent at the same time. When you tack on that primape evolves when it becomes so angry that it dies, I feel like that's just too perfect not to match with Herc.
Obstagoon — Herc and his hair metal. Plus its signature move is a yell. Hercules loves yelling! He can clap so loud it staggers people! He and obstagoon would be so annoying beside each other.
Aegislash — While Herc's usually the type to prefer blunt weaponry, the fact that aegislash is the spirit of an ancient warrior trapped in a sword and shield felt too good not to take advantage of. One of Herc's old allies from ancient times, sticking by his side in the form of a ghostly sword.
While these would be Herc's typical battle team, he'd have backups: machamp, falinks, the tyrogue line, and plenty of other fighting types. If he were a gym leader or an elite four member in some faraway greece-based region, he'd be a fighting type specialist with the other members of his team serving as background characters, essentially. Or given regional forms to suit his needs.
He'd also have pokemon that he doesn't use for battle at all — in particular, he has a small crew of smoliv, dolliv, and arboliva that he shares with Athena. And while it's not one of his personal pokemon, it's not uncommon to see one of Athena's noctowl hovering near him. Gotta keep an eye on him so he doesn't do something stupid, as younger brothers are wont to do.
Also tossed around the idea of him having a zapdos as another connection to Zeus. Whether it's because he feels it's too powerful for a fair fight or that he doesn't want such a direct line to his father, I don't think zapdos would make many appearances at all.

Hello There
You may call me Seraphina and should it matter to you- I am a Ceruledge hybrid.
I am a lover of ghost type pokemon.
I have knowledge of just about any way of doing combat you can think of, though sword fighting is my personal taste.
My sister Agni can be found at @psychic-type-appreciator...
My Pokemon:
I have a Fuecoco named Bellows, Bell for short...I do not intend to let him battle. But...if he wishes he will be allowed.
A slowbro I have named Sunset. they're a little odd in terms of appearance but register as a kantonian slowbro within my pokedex app..
I have a Litwick named Matches... She has a lovely blue flame and is quite small. I hatched her from an egg..
Additionally I have a Rowlet named Marimo, very sweet. he likes to perch on my bedframe, my brother brought him from an alternate universe...?
A recent addition is Nika, an oricorio from a shelter... she is very passionate. and her dance is delightful

All your fic idea sound delightful but I’m very curious about the Magician Nephew x LOTR crossover and the Another MGME but it's just my OCs from my historical fiction novel!
Ask me about my not-yet-written-fics from this list
Okay, so:
,Magician's Nephew x LOTR crossover
It's so easy to make this work.
Jill and Diggory have magic rings that transport them to the wood between worlds. In theory, the wood contains portals to every world that has ever existed, or ever will exist, right?
So the events of the magician's nephew happen. They wake Jadis, get chased by her all the way back to the wood, and then they run for the nearest pool. And rather than it being home they run for the one that happens to be Middle Earth.
Jadis still grabs onto Digg's ankle.
(Debating on whether or not to include uncle andrew. It does involve them having to go back to England in between their trip to the dying world, and then for some reason back to the wood. Maybe the whole lampost situation happens still idk. I do just love the idea of Jadis and Uncle Andrew traipsing through Middle Earth).
I have not fully decided which age to put them in but there IS something immensely funny about Diggory and Jill wandering around Middle Earth with some magic rings.
And also for some reason Diggory and Jill end up with one ring color, and Jadis (and also potentially Uncle Andrew) wind up with the other ring color, and/or there just aren't enough rings and somebody ends up with all the green ones).
They wind up separated and traipsing around looking for each other and/or trying to separate Uncle Andrew and Jadis. I think it's best if maybe Uncle Andrew and Jadis have the green rings, but aren't willing to leave without also having the yellow ones.
Jill and Diggs wind up in Rivendell (obviously I MUST include Elrond) and give everyone a heart attack because they have a funny little yellow ring that absolutely rubs Vilya the wrong way and doesn't match any Music in middle earth. Meanwhile apparently according to them there are Some Very Dangerous People wandering around with another set of weird magic rings.
I want Jadis to decide that she absolutely wants to be queen of Middle Earth and to try very hard to launch a campaign for it.
Also want Jadis to find out that there are other magical objects and to try and collect them all like Pokemon, and to be a royal pain in EVERYONE'S (including Sauron's) ass.
Anyway that's it that's the idea.
MGME But It's Just My OCs From My Hisfic Novel
okay to make this make sense you gotta understand that within the actual history post the book I wrote, two of the main characters get killed.
(the book is set during the very last year of the nine years' war in Ireland, where Hugh O'Neill, High King of Ireland and Chieftain of Ulster fought against the colonizing English army. He had convinced Spain to help him (Catholics vs Protestants), but the Spanish pulled out and Baron Mountjoy (British occupation) essential starved the Irish out by burning all their crops, and eventually Hugh signed a treaty after one final stand in Ulster. Baron Mountjoy smashed the stone of kings, where all the High Kings of Ireland had been crowned for thousands of years, and formally began the occupation, moving British colonizers in to take over the farmland in Ulster and press the Irish into serfdom.
ANYWAY. So that's the background. Later Hugh and his ally Rory O'Donnell go to Spain to try and muster up some more help, but they wind up actually getting sick and dying during the trip.
So my OCs are Hugh's wife and daughter. (Hugh was, historically, a terrible husband and I am an absolute slut for messy toxic dynamics). The OC winds up with Rory in the end bc he was historically a Really Cool Guy.
So naturally, instead of them dying later I'm like 'haha what if they just got transported to Middle Earth'.
I have not thought this through very hard but I would obviously like the Classic 'they wind up in Rivendell' because again, Elrond, obviously obviously.
Mostly SOL but I could also see Rory and Hugh going "oh, there's another colonizer who wants to destroy the free people of THIS land??? Fuck him. We're absolutely joining that fight."
I could see this being set in the second age actually during the first founding of Rivendell (and so Rory and Hugh and up in TLA) but I could also see them at Pelennor in the TA, but unfortunately that means that my OC mom doesn't get to meet Cel :( And I want them to be friends. They would get along so well.
Elrond, of course, parents both OCs (even though one of them is a grown ass mom) because I want him to. Also he hisses at Hugh. Because he's trash.
Alternatively they could wind up sometime in the early third age and join the war against Angmar and then we still get Cel. I'm not picky.
This one is more vague and I mostly daydream about SOL situations of my OCs in Rivendell but there's definitely A Plot in there somewhere.

maybe bc i associate taylor w/ cookies and it uses sparkle neos, i think it would be cute if taylor uses star/stars/starself neos! also like hehe pokemon brain does swift = stars. obv dood uses all pronouns including all neos, xie or voidself pronouns i think fit esp well, also i think heart/hearts is REALLY CUTE and i can see Norm using that at some point i think he would like collecting a ton of neos actually. anyways those r my thoughts 👍
TAYLOR USING STAR/STARS PRONOUNS IS SOOO SO REAL 😭😭😭 I just know Taylor would use the Pokémon reasoning you gave too. “My last name is Swift and in Pokémon, the move Swift is animated with STARS-!” Aaaaaaa STAR IS SO CUTE. Shakes star. So delightful
AND YOU KNOW. I LOVE THOSE DOOD/DUDE THOUGHTS. OOUGH voi/void/voidself Dude you could be sooo so real. I think xie would just love learning about pronouns in general too!! It’s not something voi has ever really experienced before, having always just been that big monster in the sky …
ACK. HEART/HEARTS PRONOUNS. CUUUTEEE OMG. Dude and Norm match with these because I just know they’d both be all over them FJFDKHDJKK Norm especially though!! Normal learns about neopronouns and nounself pronouns specifically from Taylor and like. Normal is always gonna use he in some capacity to me, but I agree that he would definitely collect neopronouns like trading cards HDJDHSJDHDJD heart finds them SOOOOO SO COOL and absolutely LOVES going thru those lists people make and picking out ones that sound good to heart. AUGH. CUTE!!!!
Back tracking to Dude for a moment though now that I’ve gushed over everything you’ve said fhdksgdkfh I actually really headcanon Dude as using he/it and just he/it. I think any pronouns is probably the direction the cast is gonna take things, but while listening to the new episode I just kept going. “It’s really nice to have a he/it character, you never see that :3” and I saw a few he/it people get really excited about that prospect. So I’m sticking with he/it for my own personal purposes for now :D

"megazardx2: I’m so glad you enjoyed it, especially since you didn’t like the Gen 7 games much at all. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!"
Then this is as good a time as any! Pokemon Sun and Moon anime thoughts, as much as I can stuff in there.
As mentioned in my last recap, the only history I have with the anime is vague recollections from the original seasons, and XY which we watched just before this. And of them, Sun and Moon pretty quickly got itself into top spot. I really like the friend group, and I think Ash works best as just some kid with the others. It feels much more natural to him than the big hero thing of XY, which was overplayed and frankly silly.
This hasn't really gone anywhere. The friend group remains the strongest aspect, I love them. Mallow's probably the favorite of the bunch, but there's not a single one I disliked. Lillie and Sophocles precious, Kiawe and Lana are hilarious, Mallow just vibes the hardest with how I am as a person so like...I get it girl. Even Team Rocket was far more tolerable this season, back to being mostly ineffectual villains with more mild goals and significantly fewer war crimes committed. Bewear helps a lot. I think the decision to swap out their old blasting off routine to Bewear's myriad entries was divine.
Nanu and Acerola had a great little arc. They were a ton of fun while present. I didn't really click with Olivia but she's fine. Same with Hala, who felt like he could've done more. I did wind up liking Hapu, which is very unexpected. Faba's alright, Wicke doesn't really do much, and I have many thoughts, none of them particularly nice, about Lusamine. That leaves the last two clusters.
Kukui and Burnet are a delight. They're adorable, they're hilarious, big fan all around. I am very glad they ditched Kukui's secret just before the final match, I don't know if I would've been able to stomach it through that. The Masked Royal thing was always a bit goofy, and this is naturally no exception. But their whole dynamic is cute.
Guzma. Ooooh Guzma. You got hit with the same bat as Lusamine. From a character in the main games with a lot of going on that you could infer, to...literally just some pissbaby loser who's mad he can't win. Dude, this is like the least compelling villain story. I do like the attempt to use Golisopod as a sort of showcasing of that same mentality, but it's a nice artistic touch on a generally bad approach. I do not like Team Skull at all in this. Or, for that matter, Ilima. Who I legitimately forgot about until this moment. Ilima just doesn't do much of anything. Oh, he's just soft-spoken and nice and talented and all the ladies love him. Sure. But he's no Ryuki. Who wins the award for funniest one-shot character in the series.
The Ultra Beast episodes were solid. I generally like the idea behind it. It's goofy, but it fits functionally. I don't strictly mind why they function in the way they do, but I'd be lying if I said the explanation being "It's the kid in Lusamine coming out" didn't rub me the wrong way given everything else about her character. Mostly I think what the anime nails are character moments. Sophocles getting over his fears and starting to appreciate battles, Mallow getting established as a talented chef in her own right with a strength in reading people's wants, Lana being...genuinely just talented at everything? Like, girl doesn't get enough time to shine because they often pass it off to Kiawe or Ash, but she's legitimately good at like everything they wind up doing.
The tournament was...interesting. I wasn't sure how much I'd like it, given how quickly they belted through top 16 and top 8. But admittedly? It works. It truncates a lot into the critical moments. Watching XY, the battles could be interesting, but often it's sort of a...going through the motions? Like okay, yes, Ash vs Sawyer was generally a good time, but there were plenty of matchups that amount to very little in the grand scheme. Ash vs. Alain, I would be willing to argue, is largely forgettable. Nothing all that interesting happens until the final Greninja vs. Charizard matchup, but I don't really respect Charizard, and I hate Ash Greninja, so it's not like I cared. But it's telling that the entire match and all the episodes in it could've been boiled down to about those 5 minutes with little lost in terms of impact or importance.
I think that's what Sun and Moon nailed best in this arc. The battles are just the parts that matter. Ash's Rowlet has one real rival, and that's Hau's Decidueye. Just do those two, and it's a nice, condensed fight. That ends kinda lame because man it really kinda feels like Hau should've won that, or they should've waited to call it a while so it didn't feel like taking something from him. Mallow has low confidence in her battling and tries to shy away from a battle she expects to lose, and Lana calls on her to make an effort. We only need the one Pokemon for that. Sophocles is learning to put his all into battles and wants to stand his ground against Kiawe, and again, we can do that in one. We need a showing of Guzma being a vicious trainer in how he battles, and boy do you get the point in the 1v1 with Lana. They do really well at linking up just the emotional connection part of the battle. Even in 2v2 matches this holds, as they quickly get to Kiawe's ace in Turtonator, and eliminate Scizor in two seconds for a story beat. It's well done! Even Kukui and Ash, which is a much longer fight, leads off the the big emotional showdown of Torracat vs. Incineroar, but both are recalled before a victor is decided leaving you waiting for the return and how that'll play out. Even after that, they manage to pivot into Tapu Koko vs. Pikachu, which was another battle that needed to finish (though I am slightly sad we don't know Kukui's actual sixth Pokemon).
The Pokemon just feel like they have real connections, not just within their team but with their rivalries. Which is...more than I can say for XY. Every major rivalry in Pokemon was Greninja vs. someone else's ace. None of that team mattered otherwise. They had cute dynamics, I really liked Hawlucha and Noivern. But what role did Talonflame play once it evolved? It ceased to matter. Why bring Goodra back? Ash just needed a sixth Pokemon, no other reason. Comparatively, when Naganadel comes back, it doesn't have a strict rival, but it's the first time it's battling and it came back through dimensions to see them again, and you get how much that means. This season did really well with connection and emotional impact for pretty much everyone involved, and it did it in a cute slice of life-y way rather than trying to big up drama to make someone matter. Which I generally vibe with a lot more.
I'm trying to think of other things to talk about but am kinda running dry. I'm sleepy, we did a lot of chores. The point is, Sun and Moon was really good. Big fan. Unfortunately, my wife and I discussed where to go next. And we have reached consensus. My wife never watched anything before this. And Journeys is more of a recap thing from all accounts, visiting characters and places from everywhere. So we will, unfortunately, be going all the way back to the beginning. I have acquired veto power over episodes if I remember them sucking shit. The original Kanto stuff is only two seasons, so hopefully this will go quickly, but from here it's sequential. I think the intent is to actually go through everything. Brace for impact. And salt. Because save for exactly five episodes I look back upon fondly, I don't know how I'm going to tolerate original Ash, or Brock and Misty.

Atsuhiro Tomioka’s 30 Greatest Achievements (and his 30 Biggest Blunders) in the Pokeani
Tumblr media
Atsuhiro Tomioka, perhaps the most prolific writer in the history of the Pokemon anime....and perhaps the most Hit and Miss one, as well. See, when Tomioka makes a hit, it’s a freaking Home Run. But when he misses, it’s a disaster of epic proportions. Now that the era of Ash Ketchum is over (God, that still sounds surreal), in the spirit of fairness and even-handedness I would like to recount his best successes and his worst failures over the course of 25 years.
Tumblr media
THE HITS:
Ash’s First Capture: Tomioka’s first episode ever was the third one, making him the first writer after the late Takeshi Shudo to write for the anime. And the episode in question, OS003, is a damn good one: Ash captures Caterpie and Pidgeotto, has a proper battle with Team Rocket, fleshes out his and Misty’s argumentative dynamic, and gives Caterpie a whole character arc that progresses through the episode. That scene where Caterpie and Pikachu are talking and there’s no coherent dialogue spoken yet you still get it...it’s a fantastic scene!
Pikachu vs. Raichu: Everyone who’s watched the anime from the start remembers the battle and rematch at Vermillion Gym in OS014, and the conflict in between as to whether Ash should evolve Pikachu with a Thunderstone in order to win. It’s a classic, well-written episode.
The Copycat Girl: In OS037, Tomioka takes a noteworthy NPC and fleshes her out into a passionate showgirl and delightful little troll who trains - what else? - a Ditto. Gotta love her!
“A Jigglypuff Seen From Above!”: OS056 is another famous episode, and probably one of the funniest that Tomioka has ever penned. From start to finish it’s so absurd it’s hilarious.
Defining the Rivalry: Before OS067, Gary was primarily Ash’s douchey rival. This episode, however, actually develops him and his rivalry with Ash, shifting him toward being a more mature, respectable trainer, open to learning just as much from Ash as Ash learns from him.
The REAL Giant Pokemon: The giant Pokemon in Takeshi Shudo’s classic OS017 were just animatronics, but the ones that show up in OS074 are real, ancient Eldritch Abominations! This is a genuinely dark and tense episode, but it also has one of the most hysterical pay-offs of all time with “Bigglypuff”, the joke that all of Jiggylpuff’s prior showings were leading up to.
Pikachu Goes to the Dark Side: OS088 is an episode beloved by many for the return of Butch and Cassidy, Pikachu turning evil due to mind control, a fantastic team-up between the heroes and Team Rocket to save their Pokemon, a very touching reunion between Ash and the freed Pikachu, and the final battle where Togepi shockingly learns Metronome and is unexpectedly powerful with it. It’s absolutely one of the Orange Island saga’s best stories.
Charizard’s Redemption: OS107 is where, after 64 episodes, Charizard finally gets over himself and remembers that for all his flaws as a trainer, Ash cares about him deeply and helped save his life when he was just a Charmander. It’s a very effective, touching episode.
The Orange Island Championship: It may not count for much, but OS113 and OS114 have Ash win his first major competitive victory by defeating Drake of the Orange League and becoming the Orange League Champion. The climactic match of Pikachu vs. Dragonite is especially great, and in retrospect foreshadows the battle against Leon many years later.
The Legend of Thunder: While it’s not perfect, this OVA gives us a fascinating “What If?” scenario by focusing on a different main character and his two friends as they have their own adventures in Johto and face a more sinister duo from Team Rocket. It makes you wish they were the focus instead of Ash, or at the very least focus could be split between the two.
Ash vs. Gary at the Johto League: Ash and Gary’s long rivalry has built up to this battle in OS272 and OS273, and it’s excellent. Charizard vs. Blastoise, man; who could ever forget it?
Harley Wins: Harley has been a humorous and semi-villainous rival for May, but he’s lost every time they fought and there was little reason to believe that would change. Shockingly, AG160 gives him the victory, as for once he doesn’t stoop to cheating and is able to reap the good karma this choice brings him. It goes a long way in making him more respectable.
May’s Coda: After losing her second Grand Festival, May is in something of a slump at the start of AG187. But then Drew, the rival she defeated in said Grand Festival, challenges her to a battle and is able to defeat her. This is a visual demonstration to May that anyone can bounce back from defeat and that her competitive path in Pokemon Contests never truly ends, reinvigorating her spirit. Not only is this a great resolution for May, but also for Drew and his somewhat romantic bond with May. (Oh, and Harley’s here too, great as always).
The Dream Team: BW006 is the episode where Ash, Iris and Cilan officially become a team that will travel across Unova and beyond together. Sandwiched between two traveling teams that by and large are big Get-Along Gangs, this trio is refreshing in how different each character truly is from one another and how they clash in addition to supporting each other.
The Meteonite Incident: Although the full work remains lost, the story of BW023 and BW024 is a good one, with Giovanni finally getting out of his chair and attending to matters himself, setting in motion an escalating chain of events that end up threatening an entire city’s safety.
Battle For The Underground: While Shoji Yonemura wrote the first part of this story in BW049, Tomioka writes the exciting conclusion where Team Rocket pulls out all the stops to ensure their massive heist succeeds, with the heroes’ victory being fought hard for and only claimed due to the surprise of Pikachu becoming something of a Pokemon trainer himself!
Aim To Be a Dragon Master: If there was still any doubt as to what exactly being a Dragon Master entails, BW058 puts them to rest in a quiet, moving story of Iris helping a lonely Deino come out of its shell and trust others, and ultimately sacrificing her personal wants for its needs by giving it back to its rightful trainer. It’s not about the power; it’s about the empathy.
Operation Tempest: BW098 and BW099 are two of the best Pokeani episodes ever, serving as the epic conclusion to the Meloetta story arc, the overarching Team Rocket in Unova arc, and the ever-looming prospect of Ash someday facing Giovanni himself. Add to this Cynthia being awesome, Iris finally connecting with her Dragonite, one of the Team Rocket trio’s finest moments, and an emotional farewell with Meloetta, and you have yourself a true masterwork.
Ash vs. Clemont at Lumiose Gym: Good build-ups and pay-offs were hard to come by in the first two years of XY, but XY067 was an exception, as it pays off not just Clemont’s leave of absence for several episodes beforehand but also Clemont’s personal character arc ever since the series started, and he rises to the occasion with a wonderfully tense electric battle.
The Strongest Mega Evolution: Like “The Legend of Thunder”, except across four specials rather than just one, we have a story about characters other than Ash and his friends which is a lot more interesting. Alain is way more than just the edgy cool guy he first appears to be, his relationship with Mairin is precious, Steven Stone gets to redeem himself for his showing in the AG series, and Lysandre is a wonderfully charismatic and manipulative villain. Combined with some superb animation and even a true Groudon vs. Kyogre battle, it’s...well, strong!
Enter Squishy: With XY094, Kalos is able to one-up Johto by actually making its side story featuring different characters connect with the main story! Getting to see the Zygarde Core (named “Squishy” by Bonnie), Lysandre and freaking Alain in the same episode as Ash and his friends gives you such an exhilarating feeling. Finally, things are starting to come together.
Armageddon in Kalos: The climax of the XY series, XY132 - XY136, is where Tomioka is able to do what he was sadly prevented from doing in the BW series: conclude the series Myth Arc in an epic, high-stakes event that threatens the whole region and relies on just about every significant good guy coming together to fight against. Lysandre cements himself as one of the anime’s greatest villains, causing unprecedented damage across Lumiose City as he seeks to achieve his insane, genocidal aims. There are some flaws (mainly the fact that alleged heroines Serena and Mairin get jack-shit to actually do), but on the whole this is a fantastic pay-off, retroactively making the entire series worth it just for these episodes alone.
The Story of Ash’s Litten: Litten’s story is an emotional gut-punch, particularly in SM021 where Ash catches it. Even now, it’s hard to think of that Stoutland without tearing up...
Team Rocket vs. Team Skull: In SM025, it finally happens. Jessie, James and Meowth finally meets a villainous trio that’s even more stupid and bumbling than they’ve ever been.
Misty and Brock, Back and Better Than Ever: Following Shoji Younemura in a two-parter again, Tomioka’s SM043 is the conclusion of the perfect re-introduction to Misty and Brock, both of whom get to be badass here. Misty and her teasing of Ash is especially on point.
10,000,000 Volts: SM053 and SM054 both showcase the battle in Ultra Space between Ash and his friends (the would-be-Ultra Guardians) and Lusamine, who has been forcibly merged with Nihilego and reduced to a psychotic, childish mentality. It ends with two stellar moment: a speech from Lillie to her mother that I honestly like better than the games’ version, and the separation of Lusamine from Nihelgo by Pikachu’s incredible 10,000,000 Volts Z-Move.
Lana Hooks Kyogre: Do I need to say more? Lana hooks a freaking Kyogre!
Defeat Incineroar, Become Incineroar: The battle between Ash and his father-figure Professor Kukui runs for SM141 - SM144, the first three of which are written by Tomioka. While that’s one episode longer than I’d have liked, it’s ultimately worth it for SM143 (the penultimate episode before Aya Matsui’s epic finale with Tapu Koko), where Ash’s Torracat finally manages to defeat Kukui’s Incineroar, evolving into an Incineroar itself afterward.
Battle of the Newbie Champions: JN065 gives us Ash, new young Champion of the Alola region, vs. Iris, new young Champion of the Unova region. It’s the perfect re-introduction to Iris as well as an incredibly close battle that you could easily see either trainer winning.
The Masters Eight Tournament: JN115 - JN118, JN122 - JN125 and JN129 - JN132 are all written by Tomioka and feature every battle in the Masters Eight tournament that concludes the long-running World Coronation Series: Leon vs. Alain, Lance vs. Diantha, Iris vs. Cynthia, Ash vs. Steven, Leon vs. Diantha, Ash vs. Cynthia, and finally Ash vs. Leon. All of these battles are great, especially both Cynthia battles and the decisive final battle which serves as the culmination of Ash’s 25-year journey...the moment he and Pikachu achieve their dream.
Tumblr media
THE MISSES:
For Want of a Jelly Donut: OS025 is a really bad episode. There’s little plot to speak of beyond dealing with a rampaging Primeape, which Ash catches only to discard a mere 4 episodes later making it feel utterly pointless. It also hasn’t aged well given that so much importance is placed on Ash’s hat...which ended up being just the first of many hats he wears, so I guess it wasn’t so special after all! The only good part about this episode is the English dub version with its notorious “rice ball = jelly donut” translation. Otherwise, it blows.
The Sleepiest Episode Ever: In OS060, Ash and his friends come upon an island where a Blastoise is asleep and they need to wake it up. So, it’s just a variation on OS041, except with all of the riotous humor sucked out and replaced with dullness. Seriously, it’s so boring.
Who Gets To Keep Totodile?: Misty screwed Ash out of Togepi in OS050, so now in OS153 Ash screws Misty out of Totodile! Huh. Did Tomioka never hear the one about two wrongs?
Excruciating Ecruteak: In the games, Ecruteak City is a fascinating place and Morty is an intriguing Gym Leader. In the anime as showcased in OS183 and OS184, both of them are dreadfully boring and unmemorable. Also, this is where Ho-oh finally gets name-dropped as the Pokemon that Ash saw in the first episode, and it flies by like it’s nothing! What the Hell!?
The Whirl Cup: In OS217 - OS219, Tomioka tries to finally give Misty something major to do. Unfortunately, it ends up sucking! Beyond the predictable formula of Misty losing to someone who goes on to lose to someone else in the next round, the preceding battle between her and Ash is awful. People claim Ash “regressed in intelligence” in BW, but seldom seem to bring up the time he lost because he somehow forgot that giving Psyduck a headache was a bad idea!
Deadbeat Parents are Hilarious!: The first side special episode that aired over the course of the AG series has Brock return to Pewter City Gym and reunite with both of his deadbeat parents. Hey, remember when that situation was treated seriously back in OS005? Tomioka sure doesn’t, since Brock’s parents and his anger toward them for abandoning him and his siblings are treated as zany and wacky here, diminishing what should be a serious issue.
Goodbye, Arbok and Weezing: AG006 gets rid of Jessie and James’ original Pokemon, Arbok and Weezing, in an unpleasant and kind of mean-spirited way, made worse by the fact that they are never reunited ever again. As a TR fan, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Boring and Boring-er: AG027 is when Team Magma and Team Aqua, the mysterious evil teams from earlier, finally meet up with one another. Aaaand...they still act mysteriously, even when there’s no reason to since they don’t know anyone else is watching and they have the exact same evil plan just with different Legendary Pokemon at the end of it! Tomioka seems to think that this will make them intriguing to viewers. Instead, it just makes them boring.
The Togepi Kingdom: Tomioka brings Misty and Togepi back in AG044 and AG045 and sends off the latter, evolving it into Togetic in the process. Not only is this way too little too late, but the story here is ridiculous, involving a fairy tale style kingdom with a princess and an evil mustache-twirling villain out to conquer it, with the whole reason behind Misty leaving Togetic being connected to it. Really? This is the pay-off Togepi gets after all these years!?
May’s Acquired Situational Narcissism: In an example of a trope I tend to hate, May in AG078 suddenly starts acting like a swell-headed jerk, even though there wasn’t any sign of that in just the previous episode this one is directly following! It’s all to humble her and teach her a lesson through having her lose, of course, and it’s so boring and predictable and lame.
The Ultimate Anti-Climax: AG097 and AG098 are what the whole Team Magma and Team Aqua plotline were building up to, and what do we get? A bunch of still frames and awkward animation as Groudon and Kyogre have themselves what is sold as an epic battle but what actually looks like a schoolyard scuffle. Also, no Steven, no Wallace, but Lance? WTF!? These two episodes are regarded as some of the worst in Pokeani history, and justifiably so.
Jigglypuff, Except Not: AG138 isn’t a bad episode, but it’s marred by a single poor decision - the Jigglypuff it focuses on is not the Jigglypuff. See, even though Jigglypuff got its big pay-off in OS074, when the Pokeani was renewed due to the franchise’s unexpected popularity it still stuck around as a running joke that got ran into the ground before just vanishing without a trace following AG039. This episode provided the perfect opportunity to finally give it a definitive send-off, and Tomioka totally wasted it! That’s never gonna not hurt to think about.
The Bait-and-Switch Premiere: DP001 is a great episode for most of its run, introducing us to Dawn, a lovable new heroine that combines the position of Ash and the goal of May, which promises a unique new adventure to come.....and then we see Ash, Pikachu and Team Rocket at the end. That’s when it becomes clear that Dawn isn’t going to be the lead after all, she’s just May’s replacement and we’re just doing the same old tired-out shit all over again. If the DP series was your first and you like it, cool. But for me, it was a soul-crushing let-down.
Dirt Poor Pacing: Ash getting his first badge in Sinnoh takes forever because DP015 wastes time having Paul fight Roark for his badge, then having Ash fight Roark and lose in DP016, then having a random incident in the city transpire in DP017 before finally having Ash fight Roark and win in DP018. 4 episodes just to win the region’s first badge is simply too much.
Copy/Paste Writing: Dawn enters a Contest. She doesn’t get past the Appeals round. Jessie obnoxiously rubs it in her face. Dawn feels depressed because she’s failing to live up to her mother’s reputation as a Coordinator. Zoey comforts her about it. Which episode am I talking about: DP049 or DP061? Trick question, it’s both because they share the exact same plot.
The Wallace Cup: Besides using May’s obligatory return to bring Wallace in one generation late and barely do anything substantial with him, DP075 - DP079 suffer from questionable decisions like abruptly having Zoey be fine with people doing both Gyms and Contests, having Ash compete in the Wallace Cup in an Indiana Jones cosplay outfit for no good reason, and having Dawn and Piplup defeat May and Glaceon in a highly unconvincing manner just to resolve Dawn’s self-confidence arc that wasn’t very well-written to start with.
Ash and Paul’s Full Battle: If the characters and narrative had treated Paul honestly and if Paul lost this battle, then we could have had something good. But no, Ash loses, all while moral relativism and abuse apologism runs rampant. What DP131 and DP132′s story appears to be saying is that Paul’s issue was never his cruelty toward people and Pokemon he deemed weak, but that he was too emotional. Yeah, because when I think of emotional characters, I think of Paul. But now he’s cool-headed and thus the stronger trainer between him and Ash and so he deserves to win! Ugh, the creator favoritism reached its peak here.
It’s SPEAR Pillar, Not SPHERE Pillar!: The climax of the Team Galactic storyline from DP150 - DP152 was better than the Aqua/Magma climax, but not by nearly enough, with it leading to a brief skirmish in a nonsensically located “Spear Pillar” where Cyrus completes his descent into OOC Complete Monster-dom by revealing he wants to wipe everything out so that he alone can exist in a new world. He then commits existential suicide when his new world begins to fade away without having ever battled anyone, which is followed by Dialga and Palkia threatening to destroy Sinnoh until Ash, Dawn and Brock pray to the Lake Trio who just...make Dialga and Palkia stop. Oh yeah, and they were chosen by the Lake Trio only because they “love Pokemon so much”, as Cynthia pretentiously says. Ugh! Gag me!
Diamond Dandruff: DP161 and DP162 finally reveal why Dawn’s childhood friends teasingly call her “Dee Dee”. It stands for...”Diamond Dandruff”, due to Plusle and Minun making her hair sparkle once when she was young.  And the humiliation was apparently so great that it gave her a full-blown phobia of Plusle and Minun, which she now must struggle to overcome. Really? Dawn having hair problems is a running gag in the series, and a hair problem is now not only being used to explained away a plot point that’s been kept secret for years but is being treated in a way where we’re meant to take it seriously? By Arceus, is that stupid...
A Scientific Breakthroooops, Never Mind: We spend all of BW039 dealing with Professor Juniper and Fennel’s resurrection of a fossilized Archen which evolves into Archeops and then at the end we discover that Archeops are not, in fact, extinct, as a whole flock of them show up to take the newly revived one under their wings. That’s.....incredibly lazy writing.
My Way Or The Highway, Bitch!: The Black and White games’ message is about how it’s important to have open dialogue between people who hold different viewpoints and ideas, and how the world shouldn’t change by one ideal being forced upon everyone else? Fuck that shit, BW069 says that Skyla’s new way of running her Gym is bullshit and Cilan has to force his view on how she should be running it onto her until she complies! If the message ended up being that negotiation and diplomacy are what can resolve the problem, it’d be fine. But no, Skyla’s just wrong and is depicted as a callous bitch, Cilan’s just right and is depicted as an avenging hero, and in the following episode Skyla just has to go back to regular battling without addressing the reasons she stopped doing them to start with. Fuck off, Tomioka.
You Can’t Handle the Truth!: The climax for Team Plasma’s story arc in BW122 - BW124 is a step above Team Galactic’s, which was a step above Team Aqua/Magma’s. Unfortunately, Tomioka gets to write the last of the three episodes, and as a result the action that was building up so well in the previous two is met with an anticlimactic conclusion. Oh, you think there’s going to be a big fight against Reshiram? Maybe with Ghetsis commanding it against Ash’s Charizard, as hinted at in the current OP? Nope! You can just sense Tomioka’s lack of passion for this finale, since he never got over not being able to make the Black and White inspired one he’d hoped to at the start of the BW series. As a result, the Team Plasma arc doesn’t end on a whimper or a bang, but on a shrug, as if to say “Idk, whatever, we’re done”.
Professor Oak’s Pointless Vacation: BW130 has Professor Oak visit the Decolore Islands and catch a Rotom, which he proceeds to do nothing of value with. Meanwhile, Team Rocket fully regresses into unfunny gag characters ala the DP series, and Ash passes up a perfectly good opportunity to return to Kanto just...because. Tomioka isn’t even trying at this point.
Ash Comes To Kalos: At first glance, XY001 and XY002 make for a perfectly solid premiere. But look closer and you see an immediate problem, and that’s Ash Ketchum. His design, his attitude, him doing stuff like bravely jumping off a skyscraper...it’s all reflective of the anime producers’ reactionary pandering to the vocal online fandom who complained about Ash in the BW series, and thus he’s now the badass “Chad” type they’ve always wanted him to be so that they can enjoy projecting themselves onto him. I cannot sanction such cowardice.
Meeting (Low) Expectations: After over a year, XY060 finally has Serena take a crack at a professional goal: being a Performer in a Pokemon Showcase. And.....it’s just Pokemon Contests all over again, minus the battling factor and gender equality. But apparently that wasn’t underwhelming enough, so we also get to see her lose and cry about it! This is the nadir of the first half of the XY series’ major problem with returning to formulaic conventions. It’s everything that’s been done before done worse, but then Serena gets a haircut so we’re supposed to view it as dramatic and important instead of stale and derivative. Yeah, no. Pass.
Ash’s Frog Fiasco: The ill-advised “Ash-Greninja synchronization” plotline comes to a head in XY120 - XY122, all written by Tomioka. Ash loses due to overexerting his bond with Greninja for the upteenth time, which sends him into a crisis of confidence. This could allow him to be more interesting than he’s been in a long while, but instead Serena yells at him to suck it up and be “the real Ash” again, which he does since fallibility just ain’t allowed for him in the XY series! Tellingly, this specific story gets retconned in Pokemon Journeys, which instead says Ash and Greninja had an argument and brief falling out after Ash pushed it too hard in battle. That does sound like a better story...I sure wish it was the one we actually got.
Hau Do You Do?: In SM097, Tomioka abruptly introduces Hau into the series. I’m sorry, Hau is an important character in the games, but the show has progressed too far without even a hint to his existence, so he was better off left unadapted. But no, he’s here now simply to provide an extra opponent for Ash to beat in the Alola League. The poor guy deserved better.
Kukui’s Childhood: Celebi time travel plots had gotten old by this point, and SM125 might be the worst one of all because it involves Ash and Torracat traveling back to when Kukui was a child with a Litten, and they give him the dream to form the Alola League in the future....the League that Ash ends up winning. Viewed in that light, his victory kinda feels like cheating.
Paul’s Unwelcome Return: There is no valid reason for JN114 to exist other than for Tomioka’s darling Paul to grace the screen again and remind us all what a poorly written character he was due to this favoritism shown toward him. “He’s way too cool!” Goh says. Ugh! I prefer the English dub, where Goh instead derisively says he’s “acting far too cool”, which not only is more in-character but sums up Paul well. He’s not cool; he’s just a poser.
No More Team Rocket!: Finally, a perfectly good send-off for Ash and Pikachu spread across JN137 - JN147 is marred by what is done with Team Rocket in the last three of those episodes, all written by Tomioka. After a plan and battle reminiscent of better ones from the past fail, the Team Rocket trio, over the course of one minute, argue and then sever ties with one another! We then get another minute where they’re still mad at each other, and then the following minute with them in it they reconcile! That’s the best Tomioka could come up with for their final plotline? A break-up plot whose outcome was all too obvious given that it’s been done several times before...and a ridiculously rushed break-up plot at that? Disgraceful.

Matt Giguere's Top 25 Game Boy & Game Boy Color Games
Ed. note: Thanks to “Giggysan” for joining on GOTG’s GB & GBC Top 25 episode. The following list are his personal top games for the system, which include none of the restrictions we used in our shared list.
25. Boxxle
24. Shadowgate Classic
23. Balloon Kid
22. DuckTales
21. Super Mario Land
20. Shantae
19. Kwirk
18. Metroid II: Return of Samus
17. Final Fantasy Legend II
16. Kirby's Dream Land
15. Warlocked
14. Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
13. Wario Land 3
12. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
11. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
10. The Final Fantasy Legend
While it may be a very basic RPG (you can make whatever party you want at the beginning) this game is no pushover. There are neat, but often obtuse battle mechanics that may put off those not willing to bend to the whims of the RNG gods, but I still find that as part of this game’s charm. For an early turn-based RPG on the Game Boy, the first Final Fantasy Legend is worth a look for what it accomplished in its time.
9. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
While a bit of a wonky platformer, Super Mario Land 2 manages to make for a very memorable and engaging time. The larger sprites make it easier to follow the action on screen, and while Mario might feel a bit floatier than usual, it still manages to be a solid game from beginning to end.
8. Final Fantasy Adventure
While not as good or transformative as Link’s Awakening, FF Adventure gets points for trying to bring the Zelda formula to the portable screen when few were tapping into that well. Just like Awakening, there is a full adventure to be had with this one, and a surprisingly engaging story.
7. Gargoyle’s Quest
A special little early Game Boy game from Capcom that is surprisingly deep for its time. Mixing both platforming and a character who levels up, this might feel like home to fans of the Adventures of Link on the NES, but here Gargoyle feels a bit more competent with its blend of genres.
6. Mario Golf
THE sports game to grab for the Game Boy Color. Somehow, Camelot made the best feeling and most fulfilling golf game on this small portable, and it remains as one of the best sports games made today.
5. Kirby’s Dream Land 2
Tumblr media
While the first Kirby game on Game Boy started the series, it was Kirby on the NES that gave him his personality. Dream Land 2 expands upon the NES game with animal companions that add a dual layer of mixing and matching abilities. It offers a feature-rich Kirby game right in your pocket with all the charm of the originals.
4. Donkey Kong '94
Tumblr media
A surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one! Donkey Kong '94 is one of the most pleasant surprises on the Game Boy that, on its face, would have been a very decent port of the original arcade game from 1981. Instead, Nintendo flipped the script on the archaic moveset of Jumpman to make him feel more like modern Mario. There is also an astounding amount of content to be played here with just over 100 levels to test your puzzle-solving and platforming skills.
3. Pokemon Red/Blue
Tumblr media
The games that started it all and spawned a billion-dollar franchise. While my love of the mainline Pocket Monsters franchise began and ended with this release, I still think back to the countless hours spent during recess with my friends grinding, trading and, most especially, battling each other to see who was the very best. Much like Link’s Awakening, Pokemon Red and Blue exemplifies how very little in terms of hardware power can produce a whole lot to play.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Tumblr media
Link’s Awakening is a good example of how to get a lot out of something with so little by making a full-fledged adventure on a handheld with all the trappings of the home console versions. Few games can make the same claim that Link’s Awakening manages to pull off. Even though this game has been picked apart critically for years, it still remains fresh and a delight to play.
Tetris
Tumblr media
You probably saw this coming like a desperately needed line tetromino on a five row setup. Yes, Tetris is one of the best games ever made. Yes, it is one of the greatest pack-in titles. Yes, it is one of the perfect examples of handheld and on-the-go gaming. Kids played it. Their parents and siblings played it. Everyone, for a time, played Tetris on a Game Boy. Tetris and the Game Boy are linked to the hip, and for that it deserves the number 1 spot.

8 Videogames To Get To Know Me
Tagged by the lovely @shivunin to share some games I consider near and dear to my heart. Thank you for thinking of me!
Dragon Age: Origins - I love the whole series dearly, but Origins will always hold a special place in my heart. It has my favorite stories, characters and PC out of the three games. I found it during a very big transition point in my life (graduating college, first real apartment, moving permanently away from home etc) and it was a great comfort. Not to mention this game is the one that got me back into writing after more than a decade away.
Planet Zoo - sometimes you just need to sink 600+ hours into making the perfect habitat for your favorite critters... Before abandoning it halfway through as soon as you get another impulsive idea for a zoo theme.
Silent Hill, specifically 3 and The Room - Baby's first horror games. 🥰 These titles are what let me take my baby steps into my love of horror in games and stories. I might be a giant chicken who can't play them alone or have to watch them as let's plays, but I think the love still counts.
Project Zomboid / The Last Stand: Aftermath - technically cheating bc this is two separate series, but they hit the same corner of my video game preferences so I say it counts. I LOVE a good zombie apocalypse, and the survival challenge of Zomboid / combat system of Last Stand are just so darn fun.
Overwatch - yeah yeah yeah I know 2016 called. This is the one pvp game I play, and only with a select group of friends. It's for the socialization and shit-giving more than anything else. Lord knows their match making and monetization aren't what's keeping me around.
God of War - the whole series. The early games were a blast to play with the husband when we were in college, and the newest games (still playing Ragnarok) are just. Beautifully done stories that really delve into Kratos' attempts to do better by his son.
Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 - again, emotionally powerful stories with gameplay that makes me willing to put hundreds of hours in for the sake of soaking up every last pixel.
Unpacking - this is just a delightful organization game with great unspoken visual storytelling. It feels cozy and warm and kiddo loves it too.
Honorable mentions - The Uncharted series, the Mass Effect series, Rollercoaster Tycoon, the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Overlord 1 and 2, Pokemon Yellow, Spyro, Horizon: Zero Dawn
Annnnd with that I'll tag: @heniareth , @siriskulksnerding , @darkspawntaxcollectors , @greypetrel , @malewifezevran , @jinakadaisy , @merlange , @melisusthewee , @darethshirl , @oxygenforthewicked and YOU 🥰 (no pressure ofc)

6 18 30 for ao3 wrappéd pls
6. Favorite title you used
What a Match (I'm Half-Doomed and You're Semi-Sweet) Both because I love a good Fall Out Boy lyric title, and because it really do fit Czerny and Ebenholz so well.
18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
Hmm...might actually be Claude von Riegan, which is part of why Steel Tracks on Hallowed Ground, my FE3H/Pokemon crossover hasn't updated in a bit, oops. (Aside from overall Pokemon fic writing burnout, since that's almost all I wrote last year.)
30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
Much as I love writing banter, I did not expect the banter to come so easily when writing Czerny and Ebenholz. But that's a large part of what makes them so fun to write; they're both sharp and theatrical, and watching them go at each other (be it in love or exasperation) is such a delight.
Thank you for asking! Feel free to ask more about my ao3 wrapped from the list here~

Note
What are your favorite characters in all of your fandoms and why?
Oh boy, this is going to be LONG. So I'm putting it under a Keep Reading
And I'm writing this for my 900th post! Wow!
Total characters/fandoms - 34
OK K.O. - Dendy Ah, my little blorbo. Blorbo shaped frog girl. Dendy is a scientific based character who doesn't seem to get many things and the fact she wants to learn more and grows over the course of the show makes me love her SO MUCH. She has a great design and wish that she got more screentime in the later seasons compared to season 1, but... cancellation is a jerk.
Psychonauts - Lili Zanotto You've got a ten-year-old girl whose style is something I wanted and I would have LOVED to have Lili as a role model for me when I was little. This gothic plant lover who randomly picks up animals and threatens to set people on fire has a style that is SO on point. The little tsundere has powers that match her personality and even as she gets comparatively worse as the series goes on and the first impression I had of her I didn't like... I still love exploring the possibilities with her.
Amphibia - Anne Boonchuy Okay, you have someone who can remind me of my Middle School friend group and kind of heal it? You have someone who embraces the culture and food that she grew up with? You have someone who just has some love of where she goes but treats it in a VERY realistic sense of knowing nothing about the world? CHEF'S KISS. Not to mention, the abilities she has the the GROWTH she shows in the show. Showing her flaws and gaining new strength. The heartbreak she deals with her friends and their toxic traits being brought to light as she gets an actual good friend in Sprig. It's so great to see.
Pokemon - (modern) Sneasel This is mosly for design and the idea that Sneasel's Darkness set it apart from many of the Pokemon. A rarity that used to be brown with white feathers to deep green with red feathers. The sleek and speedy designs is one of the best from my "home region" of Pokemon.
Undertale - It honestly has changed a lot. Looking back on canon vs fanon, I'd have to say: Asgore. He's just a sweet old goat man who's lost so much in his life. He doesn't want war against humanity, he only wants what's best for his kingdom. And even then, he just hopes another human won't fall down into the underground and he can just tend to the flowers. Let the old goat man garden and let him be happy.
Deltarune - Even without ignoring the Undertale characters: Susie. Similar to Lili, Susie is a troubled character with not much known except the fact that journeying the dark world with Kris opened up her eyes and her heart. She's also a great character to get a laugh, such as with messing with Ralsei in Chapter 2 and being willing to make HER own choices. She also shows off the soft side of her heart with Lancer and Noelle and that's GREAT for her. Susie is a hero.
Sonic - Rouge the Bat Sonic X, THANK YOU for showing me this delightful little bat mercenary who worked for the government. She's a creature who I wish was shown off more in the modern Sonic media in a way where she was a true mercenary and wanting the gems for herself. Give me a plot where she gets the Chaos Emeralds. Give me Super/Hyper Rouge, SEGA. Do it, you cowards.
Warrior Cats - Hollyleaf As someone who VERY MUCH followed rules as a child, I love Hollyleaf and her whole debacle. She's a part of a family who's supposed to have power but only Her BROTHERS get it. She's a child born out of wedlock and thinks that breaking the Warrior Code means she's automatically doomed to destruction. As someone who grew up in a VERY religious town (not home, the home life was good for me) the feelings that Hollyleaf suffers from was VERY poignant to me. I also LOVE Tenelleflower's interpretation of Hollyleaf in "Rewriting The Power of Three." But even still, Hollyleaf!
Wings of Fire - Moonwatcher OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE THIS. So going from one person destined to have powers but received none, to one who was born with powers everyone thinks were LOST. Moonwatcher is such a skittish girl who is just trying her best throughout her book and she keeps seeing bad things happening and can't do anything about it. Nor can she say anything without the risk of losing those around her. A far cry from Hollyleaf but a beloved character in a mirror world to her. Unfortunately a victim of Tui T. Sutherland's first book syndrome. Where overtime her protagonists from Book 1 become more... one-note and less important.
Pucca - "" Yes, I know it's a show that contains sexual harassment. YES, I know the main character is the harasser. But the style of the show and the fandom comics that got me into the show have REALLY stuck with me. In the sense where I like fanon more, but still enjoy her antics in the show.
The Owl House - Luz Noceda Luz Noceda. Typical weird girl who loves fantasy and writes fanfiction. Hey, a character for ME! But really, Luz going from enamoured to the fantasy to realizing the reality of this world is SO GOOD. The fact she goes from following a prophecy to making her own claim in the world with the magic she knows is fantastic. I love her.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Fluttershy One of the characters who has to constantly relearn the same lesson, but I love her nonetheless. A shy little pegasus mare who doesn't even like to fly. She loves her animals and overtime she befriends some of the wackiest characters in the show. And it's fun to see her slowly get more assertive and be willing to stand up for what she believes in.
Steven Universe - Amethyst It used to be Connie, but you know what? Baby Amethyst in the movie and rehearing what LITTLE songs she got, makes me think that I like Amethyst more. She goes from being an aunt to a cool older sister and she relates so well to Steven. She's the bridge he needs and helps him so much.
She-Ra - Entrapta Again, similar to Dendy, Entrapta is such a cool design and I love characters similar to her. Also her relationship with Hordak is something very very fun and I like how that created Wrong Hordak, too.
Miraculous Ladybug - Marinette Dupain-Cheng Do they make her memorize her love interest's schedule and insist they're meant to be? I mean yeah, but she's a teenager who's been bullied all of her life and when Adrien came he was like... the first male who was showing her kindness. That's a mood for me and my first love (Granted, I wasn't this obsessed). And also she's a baker, who is a very sweet and creative girl who tries her best and when she's hit with inspiration she goes OFF.
Ace Attorney - Phoenix Wright Call me a sucker, but Phoenix Wright in the Ace Attorney series is a great man. He's a bit of a bumbling oaf with a big heart and I love his different story beats. Like why he wanted to become a lawyer, losing his loved ones, facing impossible odds and embracing the idea of truth over money. Love this goofball.
Infinity Train - Lake Lake's entire identity crisis of being a person is something filled with existential dread and death. This protagonist murdered someone, a COP, and was still in the right. She's got a heart and she knows it and she's ready to show the world.
Camp Camp - David Saying this as a camp counselor: Yeah, I'm biased. David is SUCH a good and relatable character to me. I got into Camp Camp when my camp had a lot of older campers who didn't care about the camp experience. I poured my heart and soul just like David did! And that's something that I loved! David is a ball of sunshine who keeps getting hurt cause he's the butt monkey of the show, but dang if Season 1 Finale didn't have the best David line!
Hero: 108 - Alpha Girl Does she have 0 backstory? Yeah... but there wasn't consistency with serialized cartoons and Hero: 108 was based on ancient Chinese literature which... looking at things like "Journey to the West" actually is supposed to be more episodic. Anyways, Alpha Girl being the hero of the Second Squad deserved more credit both inside and out of the show. A big brute who was willing to throw down and take what she deserved.
Kingdom Hearts - Roxas Roxas is one of the most complex characters in one of the most complex series. Why do I love him? He goes from an emotionless husk being controlled by the Big Bad Evil Guy, to a boy who
Star Vs. The Forces of Evil - Janna One of the best characters all the way through. Consistantly likeable and honestly if anyone were to have been affected by Eclipsa's chapter, I would have loved to have seen her. She was a side character who helped the scenes she was in and got one of the best ending lines for any characters.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - Sveta BEAST MEN BEAST MEN BEAST MEN. Yeah... I may be a furry. You give me a mid-late game ally who is a wolf/fox/whatever who can literally go BEAST MODE on an enemy? I'm gonna love 'em! Sveta is one of my favorite characters in the Golden Sun: Dark Dawn games for her tragedy. She loses her brother and has to rule the land without him. She's... she comes in last so her character arc isn't that great but she's a tragic werewolf and I love her.
Code: Lyoko - Odd Della Robbia Of all the characters I love, Odd is one of the most expected. He's a playful guy who is a bit of a player and machine/music nerd with weird hair. But also he's the best character in the video games. DS Code: Lyoko made Odd SO broken. Get full defense upgrade, hold down B, and MASH A. Nothing will damage you except Hornets.
Kim Possible - Ron Stoppable I'm partial to love interests. ESPECIALLY this one. Who didn't start out as a love interest but had GREAT chemistry for the friends to dating. He's also a great comedy character and so so so sweet. He's a reluctant big brother who soon grows to LOVE his baby sister and he is the one who saves the world in the finale with "mystical monkey powers." Great Guy.
Digimon - Takato Digimon Tamers is the best Digimon series. And Takato is one of the most realistic characters in a series that thrives on the characters telling the story. Takato cares for the digimon he created and is also terrified. This series and Takato is where Digital Monsters really lives up to its name.
Secret Saturdays - Zon Saturday She's a dinosaur and I love her noises.
American Dragon - Fu Dog I haven't watched American Dragon in a long time. But Fu Dog has some great lines.
Adventure Time - Flame Princess Flame Princess was the character I really loved. A character who was seen as evil for powers she couldn't control. Put into one box that she was able to break out of. She got a sweet friend in Cinnamon Bun and she absolutely did well for the kingdom, despite the fact of the brutalness she faced from the Candy Kingdom and the Elementals series.
Kill la Kill - Mako Mankanshoku My first "proper" anime. Mako Mankanshoku was hilarious and fantastic through the short series run. I loved her use in the series and that weird spotlight she'd always get when she was pumping up her sister in arms. Everyone deserves a Mako in their life.
Hey Arnold! - Helga Pataki Oh boy, what a shocker. But really, Helga goes through so much that she really doesn't deserve. And because of that her expression of affection has been twisted. The deuteragonist mean girl love interest has really caught my eye. ... Not sure what that says about me.
Invader Zim - Gaz Membrane Gamer girl who is done with everything. She doesn't care if Zim's an alien or not, or if Dib is obsessed with being right. She exists in her own world and people accept that.
Yu-Gi-Oh! - Seto Kaiba He's so pathetic. It's hilarious. He wants to beat an ancient spirit in a children's card game. He makes his little brother into the "Damsel in Distress" trope, but for boys even in a video game. This boy is just fantastic. Hilarious.
Gravity Falls - Stanley Pines Stanley Pines... Mr. Mystery himself. Always second place to his brother... BUT NOT IN MY EYES. I LOVE STANLEY PINES (even if I go by "Sixer"). Stanley Pines deserves the world and is a fun caretaker for both Soos Ramirez and Dipper and Mabel Pines. And his story is delightfully tragic. Love them so much!
Danny Phantom - Desire She is my favorite villain. Manipulating wishes is my jam.

Hi, I'm a huge fan of your Detective Pikachu AHIT au, so much so that you've inspired me to try and make an AHIT au of my own. I was wondering if you had any tips or advice for me though because I've never really written an au before, let alone a fanfic. I'm not sure how to word it well, but I'll try my best. I guess what I'm wondering specifically is how do you find the balance between standing apart from the original media and making the two blend together in a way that feels natural? If that makes sense? And/or general advice. I've been wanting to write this story for a long time but actually writing (and posting it for others to see) is very intimidating. Sorry if this is a lot to ask for though. I really look up to you a lot when it comes to writing stories. You do such a good job of making the characters easy to relate to and I can almost physically feel myself in your stories when I'm reading them because of how full of life they are. If the advice thing is too much, I understand. If nothing else I wanted so say thank you for all the AHIT stories you've written. They've helped me through some difficult times. Still are. It gives me something to look forward to when everything else is unclear. Thank you very much <3
Oh gosh, first, thank you so much, this is so kind and I’m so glad and grateful my stories can do that for you ;o; <333 It means a lot! I’m happy to share my thought processes for writing! Under the cut because I get a little rambly, but I hope it helps a bit and feel free to ask me to clarify anything!
For balancing aus, what I usually do is pinpoint the main pieces of the original media that I think are most important to the media itself and then if there are any matching themes/vibes with the media I’m working with, I latch onto those too. For example! The main thing I zeroed in on in the Detective Pikachu au is how the dad gets turned into a pokemon, gets amnesia, and has to team up with his kid to unravel the mystery surrounding his predicament. That’s the part that, I think, makes it a Detective Pikachu au first and foremost and it’s where I’m the most faithful to the source, and then I deviate quite a bit, like how I keep the prince/snatcher a lawyer and turn him into an eevee instead because I thought it fit the character more.
And then with that au, I threw in the shadow pokemon mechanic because I thought the artificial corruption of hearts and closing them fit how Vanessa and the prince in ahit are corrupted/overshadowed by their heartbreak. And a smaller thing I did to combine Detective Pikachu with the prince was how, in the movie, detective pikachu is obsessed with coffee and since I made the prince’s partner a polteageist, it made sense to have him have an affinity for tea. And then from there it was a matter of just playing around with how the characters and the world of ahit would change with pokemon!
The most important advice I can give is to write the moments/tropes/emotions that you most want to! For as much as I can justify my choices for the story above, I also just really wanted to write them like that, haha. Like I just adore the shadow pokemon mechanic and wish it was utilized in games more, so I brought it into the story so I could play with it!
I totally get nervous posting stories too. And, looking back, there are a lot of ways I could improve the aus, like I feel that my majora’s mask au could have more influence from majora’s mask itself, but also I do love the story I ended up with! So I think, just writing things that make you happy/call to you is the best place to start. There are a lot of moments in those aus that I was certain no one else but me would enjoy, but then they ended up being some favorites of readers! (Like Wuka ;w; I wasn’t going to keep him in as long but I was delighted to find others loved him too, so I indulged in more shameless owo moments hehe).
This got a little long, but I hope it helps and I hope you start writing your story soon!!! I think my favorite thing about stories is how many ways you can tell the same one, or similar ones, or ones that start in the same place but branch into different paths, and how they all matter. In some way, big or small, stories matter. And your story matters! Wherever you start it, and however you guide it through its journey, it matters! And I most certainly look forward to reading it when it’s ready! <333

*Slaps papers on desk* Order up!
Lillian - My player character for Leaf Green, which was the first core series Pokemon game I played. Even then, the copy I played didn't belong to me so I couldn't save her adventure, so I never got her further than beating the second gym, and as a result she isn't built upon very much. Her starter Pokemon was a Bulbasaur and her favoured types were grass and electric. She loved her Raichu, Emmy, very much. I never changed her basic appearance from Leaf's and she never became a champion, probably more suited to researcher or breeder type courses in life. I named her rival Nigel, and she views Nigel as a friend.
Natalie - My player character for Pearl. This was the first Pokemon game I owned for myself, and thus my first champion. She nicknamed all of her Pokemon without exception. Unfortunately, my original save with Natalie got corrupted and deleted, so her original party are lost to the void. Her starter was a Piplup, named Phillip in the original save but in my redo it was a girl Piplup so she became Phillipa instead, and her other most major companion was a Luxray, raised from a Shinx, named Libby (again in my replay it was the opposite sex so was named Larry) - all of her Pokemon were given people names. Natalie is one of the more confident champions here. She has long pink hair and dark blue eyes. Her rival was named Julius, and she views him as very rude and intolerable. Also she has a crush on Maylene.
Francis - My player character for Soul Silver. Francis has an intense fondness and fascination for ghost, poison and dark types, and nicknames most of his Pokemon. His first was a Cyndaquil named Blitz, who he never evolved. His most beloved Pokemon other than Blitz are his Gengar, Spookie, Umbreon, Nightshade, Arbok, Fang, Mareep, Lightning, Dragonite, Digger, and shiny Charizard. He's quiet, loves places with deep history and dark vibes (he can often be found hanging around Lavender Town or Ecruteak City) and loves his Pokemon very very much. He once cried when his Arbok went missing for a while. I named his rival Maia, and he sees her as his best friend. He had a crush on Morty, but very much considered it a childish celebrity crush kids tend to develop mid puberty. He has black hair, purple eyes, wears clothes in blacks and purples to match his favoured types, and also has huge bags under his eyes like he hasn't slept his entire life.
Pippa - My player character for Alpha Sapphire. Pippa is a bright and cheerful young girl who delights in being in the spotlight. She goes out of her way to be kind and helpful to others and is both Hoenn champion and a top coordinator. She likes to dress modestly with long dresses with long sleeves and high collars. Her first Pokemon was a Mudkip named Kipper which she has never evolved, and in the contest world she is well known for her Seviper, Taffy, her Graveler, Rocky (exclusively used for cuteness contests), her Linoone, Ziggy and her Pikachu, Thugalina. She also has a close bond with her Sableye, Justin. Though enjoying being in the spotlight, she is modest and humble, and accepts compliments and criticism with grace. She considers her rivals, Brendan and Wally, as good friends and has a crush on Lisia. (She dislikes the other coordinator who had a crush on Lisia because he is rude and doesn't take no for an answer.) Pippa has short ginger hair and blue eyes, and typically wears a headband instead of a hat or bandanna.
Julian - My player character for Black. Julian probably has the lowest confidence of any of my champions, clearly suffering from low self esteem and anxiety. He favours ice and dragon types, with a particular fondness for his Mamoswine and her baby Swinub, and his Hydreigon. Though I cannot do this in game, Julian has named each individual head of the Hydreigon (they are named after the Powerpuff Girls). He gets on very well with Bianca, but feels like Cheren talks down to him and patronises him, but he'd never say anything or complain because he's terrified of confrontation and still wants to be friends with Cheren. His first Pokemon was a Snivy. Though she's a B&W2 character, Julian has a crush on Roxie. He has short, blond hair, orange eyes and wears primarily orange, white and pale yellow, including an orange beret. He is more surprised than anyone else that he became champion. The one circumstance he's been known to stand up to others in is when others threaten the bond between trainers and Pokemon, as his bond with his Pokemon is his most beloved thing.
Graycie - My player character for White 2. Graycie is Julian's younger sister by two years. I haven't played far in White 2 because I actually haven't yet finished Black (I'm stuck on a battle lol) but I can tell you Graycie is more confident and cheerful than her brother, and is also his biggest supporter. prior to him leaving on his adventure she would be the one to tell the servers he asked for no pickles. Graycie's first Pokemon was Oshawott. Graycie's appearance is the default Rosa appearance. Her rival is named Grayson and they are good friends. She has a crush on Benga.
Humphrey - My player character for X. Humphrey is a moody lad with a bit of an attitude and definite walls up. He didn't want to move to his new home and appears to be struggling with the upheaval prior to meeting Serena and co. Possibly a child of a very messy divorce or something, either way he's sad when he moves to Vaniville. He views his boundaries as very strict and important, and doesn't like being touched or grabbed or having people invading his personal space without warning. As a result, he absolutely hates Shauna, Tierno and Trevor, who tend to ignore his boundaries and annoy him a lot, especially Shauna who seems to keep flirting with him despite his lack of interest and repeatedly grabs him or latches onto him, and dislikes but tolerates Serena, who repeatedly invades his personal space. He's quite clumsy on his skates. Humphrey's first Pokemon was a Fennekin, and he favours bug types, being especially close to his Beedrill, Duchess. He also frequently uses and has a strong bond with his Luvdisc and Snorlax. His appearance is the basic default for Calem.
Lilo - My player character for Moon. Lilo is adventurous, bright and loves all things cute and weird looking. Her first Pokemon was a Litten, Waffle, which only evolved as far as a Torracat, and she loves fire types best. Lilo has a phobia of ghost types. She gets on very well with Hau and Lillie, and has a crush on Gladion. She is very protective of those she cares about and will punch, kick, bite and scratch if needed. She has long, dark brown hair and brown eyes.
Stitch - My player character for Ultra Sun. Stitch is Lilo's younger twin brother, and the two start their journey together but quickly go their own ways as they have different goals. He's quieter and calmer than his sister, but friendly and excitable, and certainly not without his wild moments. Lilo may be louder and more eccentric, but all the worst and most chaotic ideas they've had as a duo have been Stitch's. All of Stitch's Pokemon are named after Lilo & Stitch characters, and after a bit I just started going down a list of Jumba's experiments. His first Pokemon was a Popplio named Cobra Bubbles, and he has a close bond with his Arbok, Mertle, and his Mimikyu, Plushy. He gets on very well with Hau and Lillie and has a crush on Plumeria. At first glance you might not tell they're siblings, as Lilo and Stitch look nothing alike. Stitch has much lighter skin than his sister, and is blond with blue eyes, and definitely takes after their mother facially while Lilo takes after their father.
Mavis - My player character for Shield. Mavis shares my crippling anxiety, but can function better than Julian can. She is friendly and affectionate, and quick to make friends with those around her, but mean words cut her to the quick (she avoids Piers and Nessa because she's certain they hate her). Though she can get nervous easily, Mavis has never lost a single battle her entire trainer career (that's right, I found Shield so easy that I literally never lost a battle, so Mavis legitimately became an undefeated champion). She considers Hop, Marnie and Avery her friends and greatly enjoys their company, and she has a crush on Bede. Mavis has black hair in pigtails, pink eyes and wears glasses. Her first Pokemon was a Grookey, Sprout, who she never evolved, and she is also known for her 'poster Pokemon', Qi, a Garbodor, her Mimikyu, Mori, her Centiskorch, Flamestache, Sandaconda, Loopysnoot, and neurotic and extremely clingy Morgrem, Pinocchio. She nicknames all her Pokemon without fail.
Jade - My player character for Legends Arceus. Jade is hard working and determined. She's naturally quite afraid and out of sorts having been somehow slingshotted into the past and suddenly having to deal with straight up insane shit, but she's managing, she supposes. She's rather quiet. Her first Pokemon was a Cyndaquil named Winston. She has blonde hair in pigtails and green eyes. She has a crush on Volo.
Vernon - My Shining Pearl player character. Vernon is Natalie's younger brother, and is more interested in contests than the league, but partakes in both. He favours poison types and was originally designed as a gym leader for an imaginary region before being put here. He tends to be closed off and quiet, and is fairly thick skinned. His first Pokemon was a Turtwig named Cooper. He considers lying in a pile of snake Pokemon self care. His rival is named Percy, and Vernon hates him, viewing him as a lifelong bully who has taken delight in pushing him around and threatening him while claiming to be a friend. Vernon has very long dark purple hair in a braid designed to resemble a scorpion tail in the way it curves and points at the end, and dark blue eyes. He tends to dress in blacks and purples and is in a wheelchair, as he is paralysed from the waist down. It is important to me that everyone know he has a shiny Seviper named Julius Squeezer. He also has an Arbok that is also named Waffle. And he brings Giratina to contests.
Flavio - My Violet player character. He's fabulous, opinionated and outspoken, and he doesn't take shit. Not here to be pushed around or bullied. His first Pokemon was a Fuecoco named Vector, and his treasure is a Seviper he found named Mr Blep. Flavio has mid-long ash purple hair and amber-brown eyes, and freckles. He also wears lipstick. He gets on well with Nemona and Kieran, has a crush on Arven and Carmine, and hates Penny with every inch of his soul (look girl, being bullied in the past is not an excuse to be a terrible person who does terrible things, treats others like shit and makes fun of orphans). The championship in Paldea and the destruction of Team Star made him feel like he hadn't truly accomplished anything - you only need to beat the Chairwoman to become champion and she wasn't even that tough, and he could think of much less harmful ways of dealing with Team Star. He felt listless and stagnated and may have suffered from depression before going to Kitakami and Kalos and feeling like he actually accomplished something. Also he hates most of the teachers, teachers suck and these teachers double suck.
I of course also have OCs for the side games, Coraline for New Pokemon Snap, who is sweet and passionate and loves to learn, Willow for Pokemon Link, who is tough, adventurous and heroic, Harlow for Magikarp Jump who just really loves Magikarp and collects them, mans really hyperfixates on Magikarp, Nova for Masters EX who is bubbly and bright and friendly and encourages others, and Bridie for Go who is strong willed and determined and never gives up and has a crush on Arlo. And technically Ollie, for the Stadium series, who takes part in event battles in the Stadium but soon retires with the blind Houndoom I got glitched for me in Stadium 2 once and opens a Pokemon Sanctuary. (He owns a sanctuary in Johto and all the Pokemon there are based off ones I own either as plushies or have encountered as glitches in games like Stadium and Stadium 2)
Honourable mention as well to Orlando and Luigi, who were created for demo playthroughs of ORAS and Let's Go Pikachu. Orlando was Steven's bastard child he occasionally came to visit and teach about mega evolution, and Luigi hangs around forests with his adorable Pokemon with adorable nicknames, and has a rival named Arnie.
So because when I was a child my name was too long to fit in the character limit for most games, I often ended up making up characters for the game instead, which has led to me making an OC for every single Pokémon game I've ever played.
Y'all wanna hear about my player character OCs for Pokémon?

Shoutouts to whoever had the free time to structure this monstrosity.  Worst part is, they included all the Eggmons, and differentiated the base and EX form of every unit with that option, so it took forever to sort all of these.  On that note.
The above is a subjective ranking of these units, based on my enjoyment of using them.  This has almost nothing to do with their general performance as a unit, although obviously if they’re really good and I like them that doesn’t hurt.  This is more about who I enjoy bringing to matches.  I excluded units I don’t have, so if you’re wondering where some of them are, I don’t have them.  That said, please note that a few made it in on the anticipation that I’ll be getting them this month, and are placed based on how excited I am for their appearance.
S: I just realized Cyrus is the only male character in this entire tier, and it’s partly because I love Darkrai and the concept of them being a pair so much.  Yeah, I am the Gacha Problem.  Anyway, these are the absolute favorites; the units I actively search out every week in Champion Stadium and aim to make part of the run.  Perhaps you’ve seen them over and over in my off-type clears, which I do like once a week.  I can promise you, once Cynthia is with me, she’ll be part of this.  I’ll candy Ingo if I have to, I fucking swear I’ll do it.
A: Usually units I use in tandem with the huge favorites, these are the go-tos when I need someone else to clear, or if I’m looking to shake things up by not relying on the same few teams again.  Honestly you’ve probably seen them do a lot of off-type stuff too.  I tend to love these pairs as well, just not quite as much as the absolute favorites who are a delight.  Caitlin’s the best example of this being “I just love the unit so much” more than actual performance.  She’s really not that great, but I do, in fact, love her so much.
B: We’re still in the “use them pretty often” phase, but getting a bit more niche.  These are units that are not often sought out, but are brought up periodically because I like them well enough and it can be fun to experiment.  Alternatively, units who are stupid good and useful, but who aren’t really the favorite so much as a facilitator of a favorite that works really, really well.  Classic Elesa’s the best example.  Not a favorite on her own, I’d love to have a debuffer that works as well as she does but isn’t her, but until that happens she’s the optimal partner for Champion Iris so here we go.
C: We’re starting to lose the edge of favoritism, but I’ll work with them where I can if it’s part of a fun strategy.  Elio’s probably the best example.  He’s solid for when he’s brought along, but he’s not one I seek out and isn’t exactly a favorite, I just think he’s got some quirky tools that can make him interesting.
D: This is where I really start to lose interest.  I may still use them because they have a really useful option in their kit, but I’m not, like, happy about it.  Falkner’s a good example.  Dude’s fantastic as a buffer, but man I don’t really care that it’s Falkner.
E: And now we enter “I’ll use them under duress.”  In most situations, this is a matter of not caring about the character or the Pokemon, sometimes both.  But in some cases, it’s literally just that they are so bad that I can’t be asked to even try for them.  Sorry, Cheren and Glacia.  Note that, despite using Lucas pretty regularly, I would give anything to put Dialga, my favorite of the Celestial Dragons, with anyone other than him.  But Dragon Zone is too useful to drop his ass to F-tier, so here he goes I guess.
F: I do not like these units, and I’m not happy when I have to use them.  These are situations where I wish it were, like, anyone else.  There’s exactly one unit down here who shouldn’t be, and it’s SS Brock, but he’s another “So awful it’s not worth trying,” and I’m just not invested enough in Brock to even pull him up to E-tier, where I’d at least entertain the notion of using him in Gauntlet.  At least he and Hapu have hope for a grid to make their playstyle more exciting.

hello icha!!!!! learned from my mistakes and typed this out in a separate document. first i have to say im feeling a very deep connection with citron as of late bc i was giving myself a pep talk abt like physics and i told myself "face up and man the music!" and was like "...is that wrong. theres that song called man against the music isnt there... yeah it must be right" and. well i realized later. i also think the phrase "dont cry because it happened, smile because its over" is very good. also I’m halfway thru creating a very eclectic list of like. a Pokémon team for each a3 character which is… something. kinda knew it would happen to me. might take a while for me to finish it tho now that I’m halfway bc I’m suddenly having a crisis like “wait shit I’m only confident on my understanding and characterizing of like 4 characters am I good enough” so… it’s slow going lol. anyways. i finished that damn physics thing I was giving myself a pep talk about and so am treating myself to autumn/winter. happens that watching these events is also like. the only thing which reminds me to actually like. log into a3 lol. i am so bad at gacha games. probably a good thing in the long run. ok starting from the top!
hisoka going "zzz" as his reaction made me immediately go... oh dear, please dont fall asleep in the bath and guess what happened. yeah. good thing homare was there lol. speaking of i fucking adore homare and his poetry. id buy his collection. i also wish there was a collection like if there was a master list of every poem he says in like. at the very least main story. if not i will literally do it myself. i love homare so much im like him in that back when i had to play dodgeball id always be like kufufufu they cant hit me if im friendless enough that no one pays attention to me but like in my case it actually worked out. on the subject of the pillow fight tho, hisoka's crazy strong pillow fight throw... one more mark on the list for suspicious, maybe assassin occupation. this event made me realize how much i missed winter like. i saw the stranger pretty recently (which has caused the effect of be being like "taichi!! thats my boy!!" in my head everytime he shows up lol but anyways i havent gotten to a winter play yet so im VERY hype. especially bc this seems like it stars hisoka and homare??? like oh!! oh!!!! also detective fiction... im swooning. i also just enjoy the hisoka homare dynamic a whole fucking lot i think its nice how homare was like "yeah im ride or die for this funky lil amnesiac, why wouldnt you be?" and its just like. nice. feel like hes always reaching out to hisoka which is like. man homare is so nice.
back to chronology. ofc sakyo goes cheap for the hot springs lol. on brand as ever. was very hype for the azuma sakyo dynamic bc all i remember is like azuma trashing everyone including sakyo at some game or the other in one of the winter chapters and it was very good. or was this a clip in like a stage play? either way it was delightful. at first i misinterpreted taichi going "…" after azuma and sakyo said theyd never been on a field trip bc like. taichi being quiet or noncommunicative... after going thru autumn troupe act 1 it makes me fear for my life a little lol. anyways im glad he was just like planning fun times. speaking of taichi tho we got a tasuku taichi pair for etudes!!!! im not spoiling myself for later events but i hope to GOD tasuku and taichi do like a lead co lead in SOMETHING or at least like some mixed troupe event i want them to talk!!!
also dunno if this is an intentional pun but i enjoy that its called high spirits at the hot spring bc like oh theyre having fun but also bc like. "spirits" is used to refer to a certain type of alcohol i think? which is cool. dunno if its intentional but i liked that. anyways the talent show. taichis moving rendition of single ladies... ok i know it said single fellas but like. we know. wonder if that line was a different song in japanese? its not too old at ALL tho imo. anyways the way banri and juza being themselves Are the entertainment... flashback to when banri slaps juza live on stage instead of doing a stage slap lol. my reaction to azuma essentially went:
azuma: I can offer to bare my soul, and a little more ;)
izumi: what do u mean by that???
me: hey tasuku and omi were shirtless what's ur problem with azuma
anyways i reread and from what i understand they were maybe only flexing and doing a gun show? which like. no wonder it didnt last too long then lol. also explains why they didnt have shirtless sprites i suppose lmao. i am SO curious abt what azuma ended up doing tho that fade to black is so mysterious! did he tap dance? did he pole dance? the world will never know...
oh also im not like super familiar with azuma yet but my read on his personality is definitely like "I am so touch starved All The Time but I will be chill. :) :) this is fine :)" like he just seems to rly like being around people! just like basking in presence whether or not hes rly talking that much.
i enjoyed that juza mentioned pillow fighting with his lil brother... thats nice! i think a lot of this event was just focused on ppl having fun over the drama lol bc it got wrapped up sooo quick. i liked the bit where sakyos worried that izumi was out late searching for him tho it was so sweet. table tennis match was very fun although id argue calling hisoka and juza the two quietest tho lol like... banri exists so juza isnt quiet. just like inevitably. finally, the event cg!!! azumas hair tied up... so nice! thats how I tie my hair up sometimes tho it doesnt look nearly as nice lol. taichi rambling abt his first love for so long tho... lol. ill be honest i have to reread autumn bc i was not aware of this whole situation until it came up in the stranger and i like inferred from there. the end of this event was nice! it was cute. i dont rly have much thoughts on it but im so hype for the winter play
Hello:!!! so good to see you again, freshly learning from your mistakes then :3c
the connection with Citron is a BLAST to read about. I am glad that Citron is there, on your mind, supporting you at every turns of language. It's beautiful.
AND OH THE POKEMON LIST!!! thrilled to hear about it being a wip ongoing! take your time ofc and i hope you'll feel more confident as you go for your characters interpretation! i believe in you!
lmao i'm glad the events help you remember to play a3, i'm sure that by the time you'll be done with the events you will have unlocked so much of act 2 you won't have to worry too much about it. Anyway i'm glad you treat yourself to good things :3c
of course Hisoka fell asleep in the bath. tbh this event was a lot of "Hisoka almost dies in a spring house multiple times if it wasn't for his troupesmates". Between sleeping in the bath and almost swallowing the table tenis ball... where would we be without Winter, and especially Homare, taking care fo him.
I'm SO GLAD you like Homare that much! he's so so good! i'm sure there must be a masterlist somewhere, or well. can be done anytime i guess?? but yeah Homare is fantastic and LDJFDLKFJDF the evil plan to avoid dodgeball from both of you.. this is incredible DLKJFDLKF. But yeah alas he's loved by his own so he gets hit smh.
And yeah Hisoka is just acting sus huh.
BUT YEAH... YEAH... WINTER... BELOVED.... I feel regular and normal feelings for Winter as you know, s o .
(i'm so delighted that you feel that way about Taichi though, as he deserves!! what a good boy!!!)
But yeah Winter play next!!!!! i love the winter plays so much i hope you'll like it as well!! aND YEAH HISOKA AND HOMARE AS A DUO... for a DETECTIVE story?? so good.
I'm sO GLAD you like their dynamic! yeah i adore it too. Homare was so quick to leap into taking care of Hisoka? Like i mean he immediatly called him sleeping beauty when they first met, and immediately decided to be his roommates to watch over him, and then he did everything to take care of him and it's just so sweet. Homare has such a big heart he's so gentle with Hisoka. Homey and comfortable, whenever Hisoka admits it or not ahah.
ahah wouldn't be Sakyo if he didn't need to stay cheap. BUT YEAH the Sakyo/Azuma dynamic is pretty good. oh the event you talk about i think is in some of his very first backstage storyes (that you can read if you have them since they're at this point of the chronology). There's one where they play a mafia game and Sakyo is warry of Azuma because "people like him are those you need to worry about the most" and Azuma is just ":) you wound me :) i would never :)" and then Azuma wins the game and starts to mess with everyone. It was so fun. and yeah i see which clip you mean for the stage play!! it's so so fun they have such a neat dynamic and i loved to see it in this event as well.
and omg worrying about Taichi while he was just there preparing a fun time! this child really would have worried us all back then huh
but AHH YEAH TASUKU TAICHI.... It's such a neat dynamic! ofc i won't say anything but man i love the potential of their stories, as the two ex Godza boys. To see them bond and be comfortable with each other always make me so soft.
OH NICE CATCH FOR THE PUN! i think it must be the reason for it tbh, i love it! thanks for pointing it out!
The talent show was really fun yeah ahah! I wonder what it is in Japanese too but at least the localization was hella fun!
"anyways the way banri and juza being themselves Are the entertainment." THEY'RE SO SILLY I love them so much
AND LMAO YOUR REACTION AT AZUMA I LOVE IT. YEah i think Tasuku and Omi are just flexing (which is Still. SO FUNNY. Just there saying "our talents is.. our muscles...") meanwhile Azuma is like "my talent is that i'm crazy hot :)"
But YEAH Azuma... AZUMA WHAT DID YOU DO....
your read on Azuma's personality feels pretty spot on to me ahah omg. Staying with what you know about him, the fact that with his job and all, he seems like he's starving for connection while also terrified to make himself emotionally vulnerable. He loves staying with people, listening to them, caring for them, and he's touch starved as hell (i mean it's his job) but he doesn't seem to really know how to be on the receiving hand of affection. there's a flair talk, i can't remember where, with Omi at some point, where Azuma compliments him, and Omi is just "mhm.. but you know i think that it's more about you" and ends up complimenting Azuma in depth and it let Azuma dumbfounded because he didn't expect Omi to trick him at his own game, while Omi just genuinely don't get why Azuma is reacting that way. He gives he gives he gives, and he's genuinely happy with that, but he seems to have difficulties to take, or to demand for something, while also starving for it. I have so many emotions for Azuma.
Any mentions of Juza's little bro are the best things. I love this type of mention TwT
And yeah it was such a laid back event. Honestly deserved after the crying fest that was The Stranger imo. It's good to relax once in a while and it was nice to have them have fun. There was the bitterness of both Azuma and Sakyo's past that was always a bit looming but everyone was working so hard for them to enjoy themselves that the joy just overtake any sadness i loved it.
Sakyo worrying about Izumi is always adorable TwT
And yeah the Table Tennis match was so fun and chaotic LMAO. I love the dynamic between Juza and Hisoka. Just two usually quiet boys who like sweets. Except that yeah like you say, as long as Banri is around, Juza cannot be 100% quiet. Rip.
THE CG WAS SO PRETTY i loved seeing it. And omg you can share your hairtips with Azuma how nice :D Azuma manages to make everything look beautiful smh....
Oh yeah Taichi and his first love! if i recall he mentions it quickly at the begining, that Yuki reminds him of his first love, and he says that again at some point - then the fake Portrait he does he mentions his first love again. And since then it's been a reccuring topic so yeh :3c
but yeah! this event was really sweet and laid back, not much to say about it, but it was nice to have it at all!
Hope you'll like the winter play :3c
Take care and thank you again for your thoughts <33 i love reading them!! bless you!!

What are your pokemon headcanons for some of the characters teams lol
I've figured out some fitting pokemon for most characters but I like to try to find a neat theme and setup to go with the choices. I don't have all of them set in stone but I'll share the choices I'm the happy with atm.
Some of the descriptions will be a bit long. Characters included are Rasiel, Fran, Belphegor, Chrome, Ryohei, and Bianchi. (With very slight mention of Haru and Kyoko)
Rasiel- I’ll just get him out of the way first. Due to his status and traumatic childhood Rasiel’s preference in pokemon revolves around high class ghost types. Vain status symbols and testaments to his ability to overcome death. His team is comprised of pokemon like Cofagrigus, Chandelure, and (Authentic)Polteageist. His most notable pokemon is Cofagrigus.
Not long after the “incident” that left him terribly injured and ill, employees around the castle noticed the presence of a distressed yamask pacing the outskirts of the castle grounds. Some noted the unsettling resemblance between the young prince and the mask the pokemon carried. At some point during his recovery, the Yamask found it’s way into the castle and rushed straight to Siel. It’s presence didn’t scare the prince, it was oddly comforting and the stray pokemon offered him some small bit of company while he remained isolated.
The consensus between his caretakers was that the Yamask had mistakenly taken the likeness of the prince during the moments he was buried after his brush with death. Rasiel miraculously surviving and Yamask retaining his likeness made the pokemon confused and curiously drawn to him. And it wasn’t just Yamask. Rasiel’s near death experience and the recent flood of negative energy throughout the castle grounds turned it into a beacon for ghost type pokemon. Overtime Rasiel developed a fascination with death and the afterlife and became as drawn to ghost types as they were to him. Not once did he have to go out of his way to catch his own pokemon, all of his partners eagerly sought out their new prince of their own accord.
Rasiel’s main partner Cofagrigus is a very unsettling and dangerous pokemon and most are surprised by how docile it is in his presence. Not only is his connection to Cofagrigus deeply personal, his family is wealthy enough to satiate it’s appetite for gold and his status as future king makes him a perfect match for that particular pokemon based on it’s history. -“There are many depictions of Cofagrigus decorating ancient tombs. They're symbols of the wealth that kings of bygone eras had.”
Fran- Fran has a very notable lack of motivation when it comes to most things, being a trainer included. He doesn’t really have a preference and his team is made up of pokemon he obtained through odd circumstances. Notable pokemon in Frans possession are Espurr, Zorua, Mimikyu, Appletun, and Hatterene.
A tiny apple-less applin became infatuated with Fran’s hat and was determined to make it it’s new home. Though Fran tried many times to shoo the pokemon away or lock it out of his house, it always found its way to him again. Eventually he grew tired of constantly dealing with it and just let it take up residence in his hat. It’s delighted little eyes always poking out of the top. Fran eventually evolved it not long after he acquired a new hat.
Though I don’t have an idea for how he acquired Mimikyu and I do have the hc that Fran is for some unknown reason is the only known person capable of looking under Mimikyu’s disguise without it having any negative affect on him. Not even Belphegor or Mukuro are willing to personally test their luck in that regard.
Hatterene are scary and near impossible for the average person to approach without provoking. However Fran’s monotonous disposition and overall lack of outward emotion made him unintentionally cross paths with one. Though he had no desire to catch or battle it he noticed it had intently started following him. It had never encountered a human that didn’t instantly agitate it and that made it curious.(She also just liked his big silly hat) He didn’t particularly like the idea of having such an aggressive and volatile pokemon in his possession but he also didn’t want it following him through places filled with people that could potentially provoke it, not that he was concerned it might attack other people, he just didn't want it to attack him. So he made a compromise to take it with him while in the safety of a ball, and it surprisingly obliged.
There is ONE perk though. Hatterene HATES Belphegor. He’s loud and hostile and his vibes are terrible. He is everything Hatterenes hate in a human. If Fran tries to use Hatterene in battle while Bel is nearby it will turn it’s focus straight to him. Sometimes Fran does it on purpose because honestly Bel deserves it majority of the time. Her Fairy typing also directly counters Bel’s favored dark type.
Belphegor- Gonna be honest, I’ve tried to put a lot of thought into Bel for this AU but he is incredibly difficult to work with. It’s hard for me to assign him pokemon because I just can’t seem to find any that are good enough to fit his vibes. Or in his case bad enough. The main thing I decided for him was that he would have a focus on dark types and two of his pokemon would be a shiny Absol and the exception to his preference, Gengar. Alolan Persian, Deino, Weavile, and Skuntank are pretty solid contenders but i’m not 100% on all of them yet. Tho I do like the idea of both of the twins having meowth, Bel ending up with alolan persian and Rasiel ending up with Kantonian Persian.
Absol’s are considered bad omens, bringers of disaster and death, and that is exactly what comes to those whose paths are crossed by this crimson visage. It’s presence is a warning that it’s master is near. Bel has had this fearsome partner since he was a child, it’s first appearance before him marking the “death” of his brother. Since then Bel has been a beacon for disaster, anywhere he goes he happily brings death with him, and that is why Absol is never far from his side. Always there to be a warning, or a threat, to those who venture too close or are unfortunate enough to have Bel’s sights set on them.
The exception to his preference in dark types is Gengar. He liked it’s vibe and got it as a direct response to Fran’s Hatterene being a constant pain. Though head-to-head it does come down more to skill than typing since both have disadvantage and weakness against the other. Generally they tend to be pretty even in power.(when you don’t consider the fact that Fran doesn’t really put much effort into battles.)
Chrome- Chrome isn’t one for battle when it comes to pokemon and doesn’t really have a preference. For Chrome her pokemon are therapeutic and a source of comfort in her day to day. Her pokemon are Musharna, Sylveon, Togetic, Shiny Audino, Kirlia, and Gothorita. Pokemon that specialize in soothing the fears and anxiety of their trainers, and bringing them happiness. Her very first partner was a Munna.
It isn’t uncommon for doctors to use pokemon as assistants for a variety of medical treatments. Though they were not exclusive to that ward, munna were often found in the pediatric ward at night. They provided assurance and comfort to recovering children, soothing their dreams and eating away the nightmares. Though there was little hope she would survive, Chrome had one assigned to her bedside. A small comfort during what would likely be her last few nights. Her moments of consciousness were short and scarce, so her dreams were all she had left.
Up until Mukuro’s odd intervention, Munna remained snug by her side. It would sometimes visit her in her dreams, providing some company within her peaceful, yet lonely world. After all what company could she dream of if everyone had abandoned her? When she awakened and had miraculously stabilized due to Mukuro’s aid she just so happened to take the Munna with her on her way out of the hospital.
Ryohei- While not one I tend to think too much on and I dont have a full party thought out for him, I recently decided I like the idea of him having Mega-Lopunny. I know that seems like an odd choice, because it is, everyone thinks it's an odd pokemon for him to have, including himself, but under no circumstances would he ever consider removing it from his team because it was a gift.
When his little sister Kyoko became a trainer the first thing she did was try to find a pokemon she could give to her big brother as a gift, as a way of showing him she was capable of catching pokemon on her own and to thank him for helping her get to that point. At the time Buneary felt like a good fit in her eyes because it was cute and its ears seemed to pack the kinda punch Ryohei liked his pokemon to have.
Ryohei was overjoyed by the gift and didnt question in the slightest why she would give him a normal type when he specialized in fighting types, he was just proud of his sister. His synergy with Lopunny is surprisingly solid as it makes for a good pseudo fighting type, and in it's mega form it not only becomes a proper fighting type it also gains the ability to PUNCH GHOSTS which is cool as hell!
Once Kyoko is a little older she feels kind of embarrassed about her choice given Ryoheis type preference but he insists Lopunny is amazing and gladly shows off it's power to anyone when given the chance, making sure everyone knows it's because of his little sister he has such a powerful partner. This does not help ease her embarrassment. Ryohei eventually returned the favor by gifting her a stufful. Something that suited her that was cute and strong, and also because Haru had one and he knew how much Kyoko loved it.
Bianchi- Instead of going full poison types like I originally planned to, I started liking the idea of her having food themed pokemon that are just kinda wrong. She's the only char I have considered taking some liberties with the canon designs and typing of her pokemon. At the moment I hc her having Alcremie, Vanilluxe, and Tsareena. All "shiny" though people are sure Bianchi's pokemon were not always those sickly off-colors. Their designs would be more warped/melted with tsareena being an exception as she seemed to have a better response to it's trainer-inflicted poison typing. (A G-maxed Alcremie in her possession would be a horrific sight)
Bianchi herself isn't doing this intentionally to her pokemon and also doesn't seem to notice their differences. Her love for her pokemon and the care she provides for them are genuine, they just somehow always end up “wrong”. Their sickly appearances haven't hindered their ability to function in battle and they actually seem to be unusually stronger than their average counterparts.
