I'm partnering with the wonderful @void-flesh to bring you the My Chemical Romance Zine Challenge! Get creating with some DIY zine-ing and share your art and words with your friends! Use the tag #MCRzine or @mcrzines so that we can boost your work!

You can create a whole zine solo, or partner with friends for something collaborative :)

We encourage physical zines, but in order to make work accessible as physical copies even for people in places where shipping ain't cheap, we also encourage PRINT IT YOURSELF zines, with files set up for readers to print at home!

This is not a contest, or a time limited challenge! This is just to spark people's creativity! 

Related to above: you don’t need to submit anything to us - these are your personal projects! - but we’d love to be tagged so we can see what you made and boost your work!

Polished and professionally printed zines may be cool, but we are encouraging more DIY kinds of work. It's okay if you just have sharpies, glue, and your grandpa's busted xerox machine! Or perhaps the copy machine at your school is unattended?

Welcome!

Come one come all, experience limitless flavours, and luxurious desserts in the Dungeon Meshi zine, All you can Eat!

This post serves as an introduction to the project, and will include a link for signups at the end!

What is this about?

'All you can Eat' is a collaborative Dungeon Meshi fanzine themed around group meals and communal eating. We hope that we can gather a wide range of participants to portray many different characters indulging in many different kinds of food. The more range the better!

How does it work?

The zine is hosted by myself @neotomiccccc and makani @dongoverlord . You can apply to join the project by filling in the form linked in this post! If your application is successful, we will respond to you within a few weeks and send you an invitation to the discord server where all communication about the project will commence. This means you must have discord to participate! We also kindly require that all participants must be over the age of 16!

Once in the discord server, you can begin working on your piece! This can be a piece of art or writing. Your piece must feature at least three characters from Dungeon Meshi enjoying a meal together. Ships can be incorporated, but they should not be the only focus of your piece. You will have several months to complete something!

Do I have to pay?

No! All you can eat will be a free digital PDF that you can download. We're just putting this together for fun and for the love of Dungeon Meshi!

What about Spoilers?

We're taking a fairly spoiler-neutral stance. This means that you can draw anything that has appeared in the anime so far - EG. Chimera Falin is fine. You CAN also draw characters that have not appeared in the anime yet so long as they are not doing or referencing something that is a spoiler itself - EG. Drawing the canaries simply sharing a meal is fine.

Chris Skelton tribute Zine

!CALLING ALL CHRIS SKELTON FANS!

For many, next Valentine's day will be a day for celebrating love and relationships and all things romantic... however for those of us in the know, the 14th of February means something quite different...

Next Valentine's Day, 2025, will mark 50 years since one Christopher Daniel Skelton was killed in the line of duty in 1975, and sent to purgatory to work for Gene Hunt. To mark this special occasion, I'd had it in mind to put together some sort of tribute to a character who's come to be important to me, and other fans of LoM/A2A too.

I'd love to put together a zine dedicated to Chris. I'm opening it up for fandom collaboration because I'm super inspired by fan-projects of the past, including the Ashes to Ashes commemorative fanzine '9;06' from back in the day, and I think it could be really fun, and I've seen so much cool creativity in this fandom!

Submissions could include fanart, fanfic, comics, poetry, non-fiction writing or still-image edits! I'd like this project to be super accessible, and as a very lo-fi digital-only free publication, no submission is too small, and you can submit as many things as you'd like. It's about celebrating a fictional character and what he means to each of us, however we want! go serious, go silly, and have fun! the result would be a downloadable PDF, with copy also published to Ao3.

The submission deadline is the 1st February, giving me (and anyone else who wanted to be involved with editing) two weeks to compile and finalise the Zine for a release date of the 14th February 2025: that's exactly two months from now, (1st December) hence the announcement today. Compared to big for-sale zines that's not very long, but as I said I want this to be a casual, accessible project.

I'd be putting together my own tribute regardless, but I wanted to open it up for community collaboration because I think it could be really fun, and from what I've seen, I recon there's others here with an appreciation for Chris and and a creative flare.

For any and all ideas, discussion and submissions, use the hashtag #chris skelton zine. If you fancy, @ me too, as obviously I'd love to hear it. This is my first time ever organising something like this, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. If this sounds cool, please also consider reblogging to spread the word as far as possible. :)

The Romy Fanzine is almost here!!! Sneak peeks for all!!!!

I am beyond thrilled that I had the distinct pleasure of discussing, plotting and working with all the fine international talent that have birthed this zine @rogue-gambit-fan-zine !!!

I have been in love with these characters for more than 30 years, and it does my heart happy to know that I've found kindred spirits and we've made something amazing together!

I got to collaborate with @applejacks1552 on her fun and sassy fic by doing some fun sketches (below) and submit my own thoughts on Romy styled vacation (above)!

This zine is for charity, so all these wonderful people are doing this out of love for the characters. I really hope you check it out and decide to support the zine, you won't be sorry!! Let's gooooooooooo!

Hi everyone!

Since I got the feedback on the interest check for a possible Fallen Hero Fanzine it seems like we have some interest and I’ve been looking into various ways we could do this. As I’m big on collaboration and everyone getting a say, I was thinking that deciding on a theme for the zine could be our first collaborative step.

I’ve made a poll (found further down in this post) with 7 options for you to vote on. Descriptions/explanations are found right below the poll so make sure to read those before casting your vote. We’re keeping this first zine sfw, please keep that in mind if suggesting themes of your own. Voting doesn’t tie you to contributing to the zine.

Jumping into something headfirst without knowing what you’ll find on the other side is scary, that’s why I’ve written a short list of what I have in mind for this zine.

The zine will be 100% free and non-profit, this also means no compensation for the contributors. Theme: TBD through majority vote Number of contributors: Max 30 (I would love to have more but, unless someone can help me with admin stuff, I think that’s my limit for how much organising and planning I can do on my own). Rating: SFW. Innuendos, cursing, violence and the like is okay but not straight up sex. Format: Digital/e-zine, with permission to print at home for personal use only. I will put together a bonus version made for easy to print at home, with instructions for how to assemble it. Media types allowed: Any visual media suited for print as long as it’s your own (e.g. illustrations, sketches, photography, collages, short comics, cosplay etc). Keep in mind that if you make a collage or mood board, all pictures must be your own (or have the rights to). Any writing as long as it’s your own (e.g. short stories, poetry, analyses, personal anecdotes etc). Pages in zine per contributor: 2. Time frame and deadlines: TBD but I plan on us having it finished around September/October of 2024, with some reservations.

Now, let’s get to voting on a theme! Descriptions for themes under the poll.

Nemesis - More action focused, showdowns, heroes and villains battling it out in their suits! Some softer moments could fit in here as well but if too many opt towards it I might steer some of the submissions to make sure the zine in whole stays on theme. Coming Home - New beginnings, finding your place. It could be sweet and cozy, finding friends, or stepping into your own skin for the first time. Interpret as you like, but the main focus should be on the concept of “home”, whatever that means to you or the characters you choose to portray. Los Diablos - Snippets and snapshots from the city and lives you are sworn to protect or destroy. HG’s lair, Herald’s apartment, or a sewer (sorry, secret base), as well as the people found in these places. Nightmares - The bad vibes (tm) one. The Heartbreak Incident, decanting, paranoia, all the nasty bits you don’t want people to find. This one is open to more possible body horror than the other themes. Ship specific - Pick this one if you want a more romance focused theme, and specify in replies which characters you’d want in centre. Please write Ship Theme before the characters in your reply. I have another idea! - Got an idea for a theme that isn’t in the poll? Pick this one and specify in replies what it is! Please specify even if someone has the same idea, or close to, as you. Please write Theme Suggestion before the theme in your reply. No theme - Don’t feel like sticking to a theme? Want to create an amalgamation of everyone’s mind stuff without any limits or guidelines? This choice is for you.

UPDATE!

Volume 2 is still in the works despite the lack of art sneak peeks and updates. While it will be another art-centric zine, there will be some changes after it is released. I never planned to organize a volume 3 but I see the potential for something that could benefit this age of the MLP fandom.

Changing

We as a fandom are slowly moving away from (let's be honest) the very problematic brony scene of the 2010s. I believe most of the MLP artists and fans online posting today witnessed this era, not as an adult, but as a primary/middle schooler. We can all agree that that era was...weird. Full of gore, unwarranted sexualization, and whatever was going on on 4chan. To get to the point: I really want to encourage this much friendlier atmosphere we currently have by shedding light on these amazing creators and discouraging giving the elitist and toxic fans a soapbox.

This is a VERY big goal I admit but I really love this fandom, even more than the actual show itself (woof).

Here is where I ask for your help. This is admittedly a very fresh fantasy of mine. It is impossible to change an entire online space, there will always be bad people regardless of age or background. My idea was to use Fanzines R Magic as a "beginners guide" platform for new fans or people looking for creators to support. Sort of like a giant organized link tree for creators and projects.

"Why don't we just stick to our small communities and pick who we interact with ourselves?" you might be asking. My goal isn't for you to change who you support or who you want to interact with. Naturally, that is all up to you. Many people have good judgment and understand their limits (blocking people they don't want to interact with or content they don't want to get involved with). I really just want to give people a chance to find a community with creators that have good intentions as a starting off point for new or younger fans. Searching for MLP artists for example would be made easier without constantly bumping into repost accounts or fetish art. Not to mention that smaller artists are virtually invisible on platforms like Twitter or Instagram. Many people have commented or DMd me saying how they had no idea Fanzines R Magic was happening or that collaborative art zines were a thing. This "link tree" would feature projects, start-ups, etc that they could discover and join.

This is just one idea though, this sort of huge project needs some brainstorming. Time for somethin' a lil different! I love fanzines, I LOVE One Piece, and recently I got a chance to be part of a music-themed OP fanzine project called "Rock the Boat" zine! It was a really fun experience and I got a chance to draw a couple of OP chars I haven't before as a Spot Artist for a Penguin x Shachi Modern AU fic by a wonderful writer I collaborated with~

So excited to finally share my pieces for Wellington Wells Weekly, a We Happy Few Fanzine hosted by the lovely @sharkgeist!

This was my first zine experience and I really loved working with all of the other artists and contributors including the lovely @benjikalide who collaborated with me on the cover!

I'm creating this page to have a place for all the stuff around the fanzine to celebrate the 20 years of NuWho.

I'm currently gathering interests and ideas from both potential readers and potential collaborators! This illustration is my entry to a huuuge project that involved more than 60 Italian artists to create an artbook about Project Voltage, the big collaboration between Pokèmon and Miku Hatsune! 🥰 I chose to draw Flying type Miku, which is my favourite alongside Ground type Miku and I really loved drawing this! PRINTING

This zine was designed for letter paper, but I think it should print fine on A4 (I haven't tested it, sorry). If it helps, each individual page is 5.5 in x 8.5 in (140 mm x 216 mm).

We're going to print using the Booklet setting, which requires Adobe Acrobat or Foxit to use. Both programs can be downloaded for free. (I'm using Acrobat for this tutorial, but Foxit works the same way)

To print:

Download the zine file to your computer and open it in Acrobat/Foxit.

Open up the print menu using ctrl+P or by finding the printer icon near the top of the window. The print menu looks like this:

3. Select your printer from the "Printer" menu, then select the "Booklet" option under Page Sizing and Handling, as shown in the image above. You can also check the box near the top of the window to "Print in grayscale (black and white)" like I'm doing, or leave it unchecked to print in color.

4. Select the "Print" button to print.

BINDING

Honestly, you can bind however you want! I chose something fancy this time (because I'm trying to show off for photos), but normally I go for something simpler. Here are some methods I've used to bind zines/booklets before:

Three-hole ribbon binding (this is the method I used here)

Stapling

Pamphlet binding/saddle stitching

Methods I haven't tried but would probably work fine:

Another three-hole ribbon binding method + ring binding

Perfect binding

Machine sewing

Regardless of which method you use, I always recommend pre-folding all the pages before doing any binding. I usually try to fold like 1-3 sheets at a time--enough pages that it doesn't take forever to fold all of them, but not too many pages because I want to ensure each sheet gets creased really well.

Watch out for page order, by the way, because these pages aren't numbered!!

Depending on how you've bound it, it should come out looking something like this. Isn't it so cute??

FAQ: OC Fanzine

Wow! What a response! Thank you all so much for the lovely comments left on the document, we really weren't expecting this. We've noticed a few repeating questions popping up in responses, so here's a post designed to clarify some things. What will I actually be DOING? Fear not! All will be explained when we finalize the format. For now, this is what we have in mind: You would be given a blank template of a 'case file' that you would fill out with the information of your OC. So, all you'd need to do is provide some art and info that would fit what the template asks! Think less fanfiction, more character profile. We will allow for some artistic liberties and creative freedom to keep the pages from getting too stale, writing wise. As an example, think of an anecdote from disgruntled PRT employees ranting about how this one independent cape is so RUDE, or a few extra lines within personal history for a villain who's got a complicated history. As for artists who want to participate don't have OC's, you'd give us art depicting other scenes from Bet to provide contrast between the more structured case files versus the reality of life on a world with superheroes, or help provide the small mugshots for writers. What does adopting an artist/writer mean? It means you want to team up with someone to work on a submission! Do I NEED to adopt a writer or an artist? Of course not! While we encourage people to collaborate and assist each other, if you can handle both parts yourself, by all means, go ahead! What does needing help with a submission mean? If you checked one of those two boxes, it means you're an artist or writer who needs help either getting art or words down for your character. The artists would provide a mugshot or something similar to the writer- nothing too strenuous, as we're thin on artists as it is- and the writers would assist the artists will filling in character details, such as history or personal anecdotes. As it stands, we have about a 70/30 split between writers vs artists, so definitely share this project with any art friends who you think would be interested in participating! I know X person, can we be paired up together? If you two are both on board with working together, sure! In that case, don't ask for assistance, that's for people who need help getting one part of their piece done. Will this be one OC per person, or can you submit more then one? So long as you submit a completed piece before the deadline (and don't worry, a schedule will be posted), feel free to do more then one! Just don't overtax yourself or your potential partner- and keep in mind, we want quality over quantity! We'd much rather have one very well-written or drawn piece vs three mediocre ones. Can I use Picrew/Avatar Maker/ect to make my character's art? We're going to say no to this, sorry. Can I use my SI? We're going with a no on that one. And yes, that includes OCSI's. Can I use my alt!Taylor? Nope! OC's only. I have a character from Earth Aleph/Gimel/an AU. Can I use them? Since the format of the zine is going to be Bet's PRT personnel files, we're afraid not. 006 Mahiru:

Classic bright and cheerful type. Seen as the "positive big sister" of the group because she always takes care and looks out for everyone in her own stupidly optimistic way. Lots of bright colors paired with white, usually with sundresses or fashionable casual outfits.

Vocalist. Her voice is just like her - bright, cheerful, expressive and sweet. Those are just a few words I can use to describe her voice. It's like an angel?? That's the imagery that comes to mind. It's not overly energetic like a schoolgirl (although she definitely has dressed as one during a few performances), nor is it shy and calming. Just, in the middle.

She definitely speaks the most during those behind the scenes interview/day in the life of. I'm not really sure what you call those programs where they just follow around the idols, but she's very talkative, always excited to share more about her routine or about herself to her fans.

Okay and I don't wanna say she's stupid, because she definitely isn't. I guess, trusts too easily is the phrase? Despite working in the ever-corrupt idol industry, she still has a lot of faith in the good of people. Which is both a testament to her determination and naivety. Mahiru is literally the type to warn her other fellow idols about the dangers of leaking too much information to the wrong people, and she'll do the exact same thing on a live interview without even noticing.

Probably also has many of those sad edits that goes shows clip of some idol "bullying" Mahiru, and Mahiru looking sad for a moment before smiling at the camera followed by the "… they don't deserve you…" audio. Like SHE HAS SO MANY OF THOSE. Because she's so expressive, so she can't hide her expressions immediately, and she's also so optimistic that most of the time her expectations are let down. Most of the time the other idols didn't even do anything wrong,,,

Ah and despite what I said about being too trusting, I do think she has a very good people sense. This helped her survive in the industry when meeting with shifty idols and businesspeople alike. I think Mahiru just trusts her fans too much lmao,,,

Has a background as a model!! Her fashion sense has HAD to come out of somewhere. Probably has a Youtube account where she still uploads her covers of songs to, that's how she got scouted in the first place.

I would think that her fanbase (besides Es's) would be the most active in terms of projects. Fanzines, community meetups, large-scale Milgram appreciation trends, basically any and all fan projects. Mahiru promotes the importance of teamwork and collaboration on a daily basis, and her fanbase definitely agrees. She, in turn, ensures to show her love and appreciation to all her fans!! Always trying to get permission to go to the fan meetings...

The type to get attached to fans. Mahiru rewards loyalty and it shows. She remembers everything that you have said, so it's always a shock to new fans when she remembers their name from their last meet-and-greet, or what exams they were taking when they mentioned it on stream, or even their likes and dislikes on social media

RULES & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

What is a Reverse Bang?

In a reverse of a more traditional ‘Big Bang’ fan event, a Reverse Bang is a fan-centric collaborative event where writers write a fic based on art created by fellow fans.

Both the ‘Big Bang’ and ‘Reverse Bang’ type of event can be traced back to the tradition of fanzines, which often combined visual and written fan art.

How can I be part of the Reverse Bang 2025?

There are three ways to participate: as an artist, as a writer, or as a beta reader.

Artists will create original artworks to celebrate SKAM. Writers will then create a written work specifically inspired by the artwork. And beta readers will be cheering on the authors, and helping them polish their work.

If you cannot be part of the Reverse Bang this year, we invite you warmly to enjoy the art and the fics starting on June 21st 2025, and give the finished works your love to keep the fandom alive!

You may join in more than one role, if you’d like… but be sure you can really commit to the tasks expected of you before you do so.

Can I join together with my friend?

Of course! In past events, there have been teams of writers working together on one fic. We welcome artists to do the same, if they like. In that case, you can join as a team - just let us know the contact data of all team members.

Artists and writers cannot join up as a team. The spirit of the event is to be paired up with someone you might not know before. But we hope you’ll join anyway, and meet new SKAM fans to collaborate with!

Beta readers and writers can team up if they wish to do so, but they will need to sign up separately.

Is the SKAM Reverse Bang 2025 open to all versions of SKAM and all ships?

YES! All versions of SKAM, all seasons, all ships are allowed. The more the merrier!

How many people will I be paired up with?

The short answer is: at least one.

The slightly longer answer is that we cannot give any exact numbers yet, because we don’t know yet how many people will sign up as artists, as writers, or as beta readers. It is likely that some artists may get paired with more than one writer. If there are more artists than writers, we will check in with the writers to find out if people are willing to write more than one story. 

A second consideration is that our fandom encompasses many verses, generations, and ships; of which some are very popular and others relatively obscure. The broader the horizon of the artwork, the more writers will be able to write for it.

That said, we will try our absolute best to make sure every artist is paired with at least one writer, and vice versa.

Do I have to keep my creations a secret before the posting date?

Yes, and no.

Unlike previous SKAM Big Bang events, we will not have an anonymous pairing. This means that writers will know which artists have created which artworks, when they choose the works that inspire them. This also means that you can freely talk about your project during the creating period.

My English is not perfect. Will that be a problem?

Not at all! Most of us aren’t native English speakers, and we all make mistakes. Some of us speak other languages too, so we will find a way to communicate - even if we have to rely on online translators.

What do you mean by ‘checking in’?

During the timeframe of the creation of art or stories, we will check in with you to ensure you are on track to be ready by the end date, to help you find solutions to any problem that may arise, to encourage you during the creative process, and to make sure you are still having fun.

Is this event age restricted?

The SKAM Reverse Bang is open for fans aged 16 and over. However, if you are under 18, we will ask that both the art and the written work that you and your partner create, will be non-explicit in nature. Beta readers under 18 will only be paired with teams creating non-explicit works.

Will there be a place to hang out while we are creating and posting for the Reverse Bang event?

Every participant will be invited to a pre-existing lively Discord server with a group of enthusiastic, friendly and helpful SKAM fans. Note that this year there will be no separate Discord server dedicated to the event, but a section of the 21:21 SKAM Fan Content Creators server will be set up to host the SKAM Reverse Bang 2025.

While we hope you will join the Discord server, there is no obligation to do so. 

What will be the main form of communication between participants and mods?

As said, all participants will be invited to join our Discord server full of SKAM fans. 

However, should you choose not to, you can reach the Reverse Bang mods via email, or you can ask your question on the Skam Big Bang Tumblr account.

Where will the art and the stories created for the event be published and shared?

All written works will be posted on Archive Of Our Own (ao3), in a collection dedicated to the Reverse Bang. The author will include the art, a picture of the art, or link to the art, in their post. Artists may choose to post their art in a separate post on Archive Of Our Own (ao3).

If you want to participate, but have no Archive Of Our Own (ao3) account, we encourage you to request one as soon as you register for the Reverse Bang. You can ask the mods for help, if needed.

After the works have been posted into the collection, both writers and artists will be free to post their works on any other site, including their social media. 

Of course, you will need your partner’s permission to post their work. And obviously you must credit your partner appropriately when posting their work alongside your own!

What if I cannot meet a deadline?

While an event like this relies heavily on everybody involved being accountable, we understand there is this thing called life. If something pops up that makes you have to defer on a deadline, or have to drop out completely, please let us know as soon as possible. We are ready to figure out the best possible solution, but we need to know in order to keep the event moving seamlessly for everybody. Communication is key. Do not hesitate to contact us! Better a solution that's not needed in the end, than a problem snowballing into an experience that leaves someone unhappy.

That said, please take the deadlines and timelines into careful consideration before committing to participating. An event like this can only run smoothly if all the parts run smoothly. With that in mind, exceptions to the deadlines must remain rare exceptions.

Can I use AI?

AI takes many forms nowadays. While many of us use some form of AI as a tool while creating, we want this Reverse Bang to reflect the many talents of fans and fan-created works. Therefore, we will not allow any art or stories which were created solely by prompting an AI generator, even if you lightly edit or modify the result.

That said, use of AI as a tool can be permitted, provided it is disclosed. Disclosing will allow people not to engage with your work, should they so choose.

To make the difference clear, let’s consider some examples.

Let’s say your art has a background consisting of a repeated pattern. It might be fine to do that manually, but if you want, you could also use some form of AI to create a repetition of something you created. Or, if you want to draw a female figure in a certain position but have difficulty finding a good reference, you could ask AI to create one for you, as long as you then draw the final artwork yourself.

For writers, you might like to ask a chatbot to suggest some names of fantasy lands if you draw a blank. Or maybe you can prompt an AI story generator to describe the atmosphere of a Mediterranean marketplace, which you then use as inspiration to enhance one short paragraph of your story.

The examples above are meant to illustrate that minor uses of AI to help create a work of art or a story, where the AI generated part is either a minor detail of the final product and/or used as reference or inspiration without it ending up in the final product, will be permitted for this Reverse Bang.

To be abundantly clear: Art or stories which were, at their core, created by generative AI based on a prompt by a human, will not be permitted for this event.

BETA READERS

What is the job of a beta reader?

Depending on what your author needs, you can be asked to read through an author’s first (or second, third, …) draft to help them point out plot holes, continuity errors, or factual mistakes. Some authors only ask their beta readers to do a spelling, grammar and punctuation check. Sometimes, a beta reader is a cheerleader, or sometimes they help an author brainstorm narrative points, or they can provide tips for a better story flow.

You can let us know what you are willing to do when signing up, and we will try to match you with an author suited to your strengths.

Will I get to choose who I work with?

Yes and no.

You can definitely join the event together with a writer you’ve worked with before; but you can also ask to be paired randomly. In that case, we will check what your limits are in terms of story triggers, story lengths, etc. before pairing you up.
