I want to talk about the Greek Myth of Damon and Pythias and how I think it could tie into Project: Eden’s Garden. For those unfamiliar, the story of Damon and Pythias basically goes like this:

A man named Pythias is to be given the death penalty for his crimes of protesting tyrannical authority against a man named Dionysus (not the God, just named after him). However, Damon volunteers to take his place so Pythias can tend to his affairs (basically say final goodbyes). If Pythias does not return by a certain time, Damon shall be executed in his place. Pythias arrives in time and neither character dies, and Dionysus praises the two for their friendship and loyalty, and even asks to join the two in their friendship but is rejected.

It’s important to look at the framework of the story rather than the details. If we do that, I think there’s a lot to work with.

The story ties very neatly into the idea that Tozu’s Killing Game “continues until there’s only two people”, those two people in this context being Damon and Pythias, especially considering Tozu has the ongoing theme of lying! The Killing Game would end, but then maybe only one person gets to leave, and then begins the free-for-all seen in the Prologue. But then if Damon is Damon, who is Pythias supposed to be? Who is Damon willing to go against his entire ideology for with the belief they won’t kill each other? Honestly it’s too early to say. But that’s not all we can take from the story.

I think Tozu is our Dionysus. Dionysus is a tyrannical ruler named after, but not actually, a God, which is interesting in terms of a power complex. His role in the story is to pit Damon and Pythias against each other, making them doubt and question their trust for each other. The key difference is obviously Tozu will be relying on them to kill each other- however, should the story follow beat-by-beat, they won’t kill each other, and Tozu will be so impressed, he may let the two of them go. Frankly, I have another theory pertaining to Tozu that I haven’t created it into a proper post yet, but I think Tozu may try to bring them into his organization, and the two reject.

It’s an interesting story that makes for a fascinating theory. Considering how often the myth comes up in the origin of the name Damon, I imagine it has to have some form of relevancy. Not to mention the story is just a little bit too perfect of a character arc for Damon and a kick in the nuts for Tozu.

Brief aside: thanks to @panomiels-box for inspiring this analysis! They reminded me my “Damon and Pythias” draft exists and did their own analysis on Damon and Pythias. Our theories are pretty different which is why I’m not reblogging off their post, I’d hate to take away from their theory. Make sure to read theirs too, they make a lot of interesting points!

Adding onto my last post, Imma make an Eden’s Garden prediction on who I think may survive or die, or at least seems to be more likely to die to ME.

If you’re still here, here we go!

Damon Maitsu - Survives (Protagonist clause, he’s gonna be hella traumatized though). Dude still has a whole character arc to go through, he still has trust issues to get rid of.

Ingrid Grimwall - Probably Dead. Look I love this lady with my whole chest. Her passion and charm hit me like a train and as a southern woman myself, I love her accent. But. Her death would hit like a truck and that is exactly what Danganronpa thrives in doing. Especially considering her death would cause the group to lose a pillar of emotional support, and would devastate a certain little matchmaker. Speaking of which.

Toshiko Kayura - Survives. She’s gonna get some character development related to Diana or Ingrid, especially if one of them dies (looking at Ingrid specifically). Ingrid dying would fuck this girl UP, which is why I think it’s going to happen. They have been setting up these two having a mother daughter relationship early on. I don’t see this girl as a murderer, but I can see her filling a similar role to Aoi’s. Specifically how Aoi was acting during the Sakura trial, hiding evidence cause she blames other people and herself for the death of someone she cares about. I can’t see her dying though, she’s too young. That’s a baby. Then again, this isn’t the main Danganronpa world, so I could be wrong. Absolutely off topic, but I think there’s a reason she’s hiding her face. Not a bad one mind you, she strikes me as someone who would try to hide things she doesn’t like about herself in an attempt to seem more mature or lady like. Maybe she still has braces and is embarrassed about it.

Jean DeLamer - Solid fifty fifty. I straight up don’t know, I could see this going one of two ways. One, he survives to the end (in which case, awesome, he’s honestly one of my favorites in this game). Two he dies in a sacrificial manner to save the rest of the group, as they have become his new crew in a sense. In which case, I’m sad and my heart is in tatters. He gives off big Nekomaru or Gundham vibes in his role in the group. Regardless, I see him as a big source of reliability and moral support for the group going forward. I can also see him taking up more of a leadership role going forward. Maybe he helps out Diana in her attempts to unite the students.

Ulysses Wilhelm - Dead. That bit about him not being able to smell strikes me as a Chekhov’s gun that has yet to be fired. I can practically taste the metal. I could see him being either a murder victim or a murderer. Regardless of which, it will likely involve Wenona in some way, as those two have been maintaining a positive relationship. I can see them conspiring with each other, or betraying each other. Either way, dramaaaa~

Jett Dawson - Dead. 100%. I do not see his ass surviving. Sorry Jett enjoyers. The fact that we don’t know what his face looks like also feels like a Chekhov’s gun. Maybe it’s connected to Tozu and Mara, or maybe it’s connected to another student (looking at Mark). Maybe someone impersonates him, or the other way around.

Mark “Mayhem” Berskii - Dead. I could see him being a murder victim or murderer tbh. I think it may depend on what happens with Jett, as those two have been linked together, much to Mark’s initial chagrin (The shippers are gonna sob I just know it). There’s a darkness in that boy’s soul, and it specifically mentioned that Mark specializes in remixing songs and voices. I could see a scenario where he takes the recorded voices of his fellow students and uses them to create confusion, maybe make people think that a person is in a specific place when they are not, or cause confusion as to whether or not a person is alive or dead at a specific time. Maybe he kills Jett, would that be fucked up or what :D?

Desmond Hall - Fifty fifty, but I think he Survives. He’s more likely to in my head, but if he does die, he’s the murder victim. From what we know about his personality, I think he’s less likely to try and kill anybody in comparison to some of the other characters. He’s got a very low key personality, and even though his talent is the most connected to killing out of the whole cast, I actually think he is probably one of the people who is least likely to do so. Dude is a killer shot, but he’s no killer.

Wenona - Fifty fifty, leaning more towards 25-75 in favor of death. She COULD survive, but I think it’s more likely for her to die tbh. She’s been one of the people who has been the most vocal about waiting for rescue, but she’s also a billionaire. And you don’t get that much money without being willing to take advantage of, manipulate, and hurt people. She’s definitely going to be an antagonist in a future chapter, aided by Ulysses. She’s also going to have some sort of conflict with Cassidy, as they have been setting up this bad blood between the two since Cassidy’s intro. She strikes me as someone who could play a similar role to Byakuya or Celestia, especially if she finds out that help might not be coming. Or if her company is on the line. Cuz we still don’t know what the situation is like outside of the Academy. Also, murder is just as much of a girlboss move as it is an immoral one.

Eloise Taulner - Dead. I don’t know enough about her to say for sure, but I think she could be the murder victim or murderer. If it’s the latter, good for her ig. Girl slays, or I guess stabs would be more applicable.

Cassidy Amber - Survives. I think she’s more likely to survive than die. Girl is feisty, and the survivor groups usually have some upbeat and optimistic. If she dies however, she dies mid game. I could see her plotting to murder Wenona, or getting into a confrontation with her due to her status as a morally bankrupt billionaire. I don’t want her to die, I like her dynamics with a lot of the other characters, but I could see it happening.

Grace Madison - Dead. I would wager she might die within the next chapter or two. Her primary connection as a character was to Wolfgang, and he’s gone, soooo, yeah. Something is definitely up with her that’s going to get addressed next chapter regardless. For one, we still don’t know why she was so adamant about nobody going into Wolfgang’s room at the time of his death. It could be because she was just embarrassed about people discovering and questioning her about her relationship with Wolfgang, but I think there could be more to the story. There’s secrets in each students room, but we don’t know what secrets could be contained in Wolfgang’s room. But Grace might. What’s more, her behavior after Eva’s execution peaked my interest. She’s uncharacteristically silent, not saying anything, even when someone says something that would typically elicit a violent reaction from her. I think she’s conflicted about Eva now, cause Grace definitely despised Eva, but after watching her death, in all its horror? I think even she feels like it was too cruel. She might act a bit more toned down and less angry going forward. Additionally, during Diana’s speech, she doesn’t insult Diana or say anything. Wenona is the only one to really insult Diana, while the rest of the group just kinda try not to acknowledge it. Either Grace is still in shock, or maybe she was actually kinda moved by Diana’s gesture to try to honor Wolfgang’s memory? Maybe she’ll help her, who knows. Would be interesting to say the least.

Okay, these last two are really hard. Figures, they have the most interesting relationships and dynamics with Damon, our protagonist. I can see this going in a lot of different ways, and they are all interesting.

Kai Monteago - Okay, hear me out. Kai strikes me as someone with confidence issues in spite of being an influencer. He underestimates himself, and that lack of confidence combined with his cowardice leads to him wanting to leave stuff like the investigations and the trials to other people. But I also think he wants people around him. The guy craves genuine connection, and he seems to have found the beginnings of that in Damon. He latched onto him like a butterfly to a flower, and I can’t see him letting go anytime soon.

Because of that, I see Kai filling the role that people initially thought Eva was going to fill. Kai will be Damon’s Assistant character, his support. The role of an influencer is one that involves the manipulation of people, be it to follow them on instagram, to buy their products, or simply to listen to them. Damon can argue and debate all day, and he’s good at it, but Kai I think will aid in getting people to listen to his points, and could even manipulate people to uncover lies or get them to confess. This will increase his confidence in his own abilities as a result. Kai is not as dumb as he seems to think he is, and I think he’ll learn that in the arcs going forward. He may also kiss Damon on the mouth, but only time will tell. I hope they do tbh.

Because of this, Kai is mostly safe. If he dies, he dies late game and it mentally destroys Damon, or helps further his character development. Otherwise he survives until the end. And honestly, I think there’s a pretty good chance that the latter option will occur. Regardless, Kai is going to play a crucial role in Damon’s arc. I could see him being one of the catalysts for Damon actually trusting people in this game, after his trust was so broken up by Eva’s murder plot.

Diana Venicia - First of all, she is not gonna be a murderer. Girly was framed last trial, they aren’t gonna pull that shit twice. Plus it was established that she couldn’t bring herself to pull the trigger on Wolfgang, even though her life was actively in danger and he ATTACKED her. If, IF, she becomes a blackened, it is purely by accident or she didn’t intend to kill (maybe smth similar to Chiaki where her actions led to the murder unintentionally, but she never intended to kill). Even then, I think the chances of that situation happening are veryyy low.

I think she is going to serve as a foil to Damon in the trials to come, kinda like an antagonist. As an antagonist isn’t someone who is necessarily evil. They either serve as foils to the protagonist or prevent them from reaching their goals. She won’t obstruct or prevent Damon from reaching his goals, as they both want to go home and get out of the killing game. Rather, she’ll be an antagonist in the moral or metaphorical sense, and I think she’ll be more vocal and try to take a leader position in an attempt to emulate Wolfgang. Her trusting and open nature clashes with Damon’s closed off and suspicious demeanor, and that’s going to play a role in the trials going forward. I can also see her finding allies in her attempting to unite the students in Toshiko, Jean, and possibly Jett, Cassidy, and maybe Grace.

I’ve seen some people saying she will die come Chapter 2. While I see the reasoning behind that. I don’t think that will be the case. If she dies, it’ll be late into the game, maybe come Trial 4 or 5. I could also see her surviving, but it’s too soon to tell. She either dies late game or survives the whole thing, like Kai. That’s my take anyway. Still, the poor bubblegum girl. The horrors are just beginning for her I think.

Wolfgang and Eva: lol they dead as hell. Rigor mortis is already setting in. They’re extra crispy.

In Summary:

Potential Survivors (most to least likely in my head) - Damon, Kai, Diana, Toshiko, Desmond, Cassidy, Jean

As for who may be next to die in chapter two, my money’s on Grace, Ulysses, or Eloise.

Diana was the ONLY ONE putting in the actual work to maintain a friendly environment for everyone. And you’re so right OP, she’s 17!! People should be checking in on her, but instead she’s checking in on them! Her character introduction involves chatting with and defending Kai, she checks in on Damon, she becomes Eva’s roommate. She talks with everyone and does everything she possibly can to ensure everyone is okay only for all of them to immediately turn on her in the class trial. Not only was her kindness taken advantage of by Eva, but also was discarded by ALL of her classmates when it was no longer relevant. While Diana stood weeping, in shock her classmates would even think her capable of murdering someone she admired so deeply, Grace is demanding the vote that would lead to her death, Wenona is insinuating her kindness was fake all along, and everyone (Kai, Toshiko, Ulysses, etc) else is freaking out and calling her things like “cruel” because they’ve decided she was “out to get them” all along.

In the end, the only one that believed in her kindness was Damon “trust no one” Maitsu. The guy who apparently hates everybody is the only one in the end who is willing to trust in Diana’s character despite all the proof against her. Everyone else turned on her the moment a convenient solution was handed to them.

Bonus cherry on top of Diana’s shitty sundae, before Eva was brutally executed (once again, in front of Diana’s eyes), Eva told Diana she deserved it. She deserved to be framed for murder because she tried to be Eva’s friend, but she didn’t do a good job of trying. And then Eva got flayed alive (again) in front of Diana’s very eyes. And then Diana goes and resolves to be even more kind??? Utter insanity. What is this girl made of?

i've already talked about this in dms but like. man diana makes me SO emotional. second youngest person in the killing game. a man who she looked up to and considered a friend attacks her, and then dies horribly in front of her before she can even really process what has just happened. and THEN it comes out that someone she consistently reached out to and, again! viewed as a friend! resented her so much that she framed her for murder, AND intentionally set her up to be in that vulnerable position, fully prepared for the possibility that she'd either be seriously hurt by wolfgang or killed when the battery was dropped. and then guess what?? that friend ALSO dies horribly in front of her before she can process this. and THEN instead of getting upset, she chooses to live in honor of wolfgang, chooses to try and uplift the others rather than dwell on her own feelings. anddd she is IMMEDIATELY shut down. because unlike wolfgang, who she's attempting to emulate, she doesn't have the sway of his ultimate title to back her up, nor the experience. she's, again, younger than nearly everyone else here. not only that, when wolfgang gave his speech, nobody had died yet. it's a lot easier to have faith in encouraging words, and to trust others, when that trust hasn't just been broken. diana has wolfgang's conviction and desire to believe in others, but none of his influence. and not only that... while wolfgang encouraged everyone to trust each other, he still brought a knife to the meeting in the boiler room. diana didn't bring any sort of weapon. i think diana believed wolfgang's words more than wolfgang himself. i think she still does.

“Please.” His voice was pained, rasping from the back of his throat like the growls of the monsters banging on the door. He was on his knees, looking up at you with white eyes- no pigment, no pupil, just milky white covering what used to be one of his best features.

The sight made your stomach turn. Especially because, thinking back on it, you had no real idea what his eyes looked like.

“Don’t let me die like this.” Are those tears dripping down his cheeks, melding with the rainwater and blood dripping from his hair, or is it your brain playing tricks on you?. He grabs at your wrist, and his skin is cold. Too cold.

You stumble back, your back almost hitting the metal door behind you before you stop yourself. Something about the look on your face must have been so horrible that it sent him into a panic, his words melding together into something that sounded closer to a scream. 

As if possessed, your hand was moving, flicking at the safety of the gun and aiming. Square at his forehead, the perfect angle. Just like the way you’d trained yourself. Just like you’d done a million times, blowing the brains of mindless drones onto concrete floors and city streets. But he wasn’t a mindless drone, he was him.

How could you do this to him?

His hand grasped at your wrist, just as cold as before, but stable. Cold, but holding you the same way you had experienced so many times, his whole hand wrapping easily around your wrist and keeping you grounded. But now, instead of steadying you as he ran, he was holding a gun to his own head.

“Please.” His voice was barely audible, breaking before he got to the end of the word. “I love you, don’t-”

His lips are parted when the bullet enters his brain, but it seem like he lasts a moment before hitting the ground. His mouth closes, settling into a half smile. How many times have you seen that expression before?

You feel the cold barrel of the gun against your own head, pressing into the skin, and you take a gasping breath. The banging is louder now, throbbing in your skull as his blood spreads, reaching your shoes.

Do you pull the trigger?

You groan, turning onto your side to grab at the ringing phone next to you. The light blinds you for a moment, sending you retreating back into your blankets with a whine.

An unknown number.

Really? According to the far too bright time in the top corner of your phone, it’s just past three in the morning. There is nothing- not even a death in the family- important enough that an unknown number should be ringing your phone at three in the morning. 

You turn your phone to silent, and turn back onto your side.

Thirty minutes later- then an hour- then an hour and a half, and you’re still squeezing your eyes shut, trying to fade back into whatever eerie dream you were having earlier. Shooting a blurry faced man was, well, in terms of your dreams, unique. Usually, they were shitty deja-vu moments, like flashing forward into the cereal isle only to notice that they were out of cheerios. Not that you ate cheerios(the texture when they sat in milk too long was sickening), but still. Shitty foresight, or maybe just your brain hearing about a cheerio shortage and processing it.

You were starting to get hungry, thinking of standing in a grocery store. You’re supposed to go tomorrow- today, actually, thanks to Mr. No-Name, and you were already anticipating buying a chocolate bar. Or two. Maybe Diana would want one, and you could but popcorn and have a crappy movie night on the beat up couch. 

You hadn’t heard Diana come in, actually. Usually, she’d stomp in with her boots half laced, loudly slamming doors just past midnight and making plain ramen. No flavor packets or anything, just boiled noodles. 

The sicko.

You turned to your phone, tapping your password in only to be greeted with the fact that you are wrong. The second time it works, much to your annoyance, and you immediately click to your calls.

Okay, what the hell.

A pit settles itself in your stomach, nausea crawling unexpectedly up your throat. Who is so insistent on calling you this late? Your finger hovers above the button that plays through your voicemail box, and for some reason, you can’t seem to press it.

In light of the news that Nimona got an Oscars nomination I feel I need to talk about the original Graphic Novel, which I love dearly. It started as a webcomic in 2012 and got published in 2015.

Now the GN got picked up by a Fox animation studio Blue Sky in 2015 but Fox was bought up by Disney who later tore down that studio. Perhaps the story of an estranged knight turned to villain because of image branding and dark ambitions of the empire didn’t sit well? At least the story with overt trans and queer-issues didn’t. I WAS surprised when I heard that Disney picked it up and for a time they did work on it. It was 3/4 part done when they shut it down in 2021.

Now that’s a lot of animation work. In comes Netflix (some good animations there) and Annapurna Studios (some good films, GREAT video games) and saves the day. I was happy but cautious. Didn’t like the trailer or the style, but hey it’s happening right?

Now don’t get me wrong. Nimona is not a bad film. It’s quite good and the way it handles gender and HBTQ issues is refreshing but the movie isn’t you know, amazing. (For everyone who thinks it is, good for you but hear me out).

The graphic novel is about two villains, not two misunderstood pure-hearted persons against the world. Blackheart (Boldheart in the movie 😐) is bitter and cold, Nimona is ferral and violent and people who get in their way DIE. They are hunted by the institute, a faceless dictatorship who do inhumane experiments. The King is never seen, a mere media puppet for the institute. It’s the best villain story I’ve read (and yes, I have read Worm)

The character Nimona is the unacceptable other. An anomaly that must be tamed or destroyed. While not as obvious as in the movie Nimona in the GN is of course a symbol for transgenderism. They transform their looks and form all through the book and at times sees themselves as a monster.

Am I sure of this? Well, the author Nate Diana Steveson went from nonbinary to transmasc/bigender and produced She-Ra so my guess is as good as yours.

Now, reading Nimona makes the movie look VERY tame. Was it the rewrite or the short stay at Disney that changed it? How did Stevenson react to it?

Either way, hurray for movie Nimona. Now, please go read the graphic novel Nimona by ND Stevenson.

My interpretation of Diana's character

(spoilers for chapter 1 and fte!!)

I find it interesting how many people believed that Diana is the mastermind, when the prologue released, and still believe that she is hiding something, especially since we see the events from Damon's perspective. And for me it's really odd, because I feel like Diana doesn't act with other ill-mannered intentions in mind, but out of consideration for others. So much so that I think that she has become a people pleaser. 

Starting with her animal motif, the chameleon, everyone knows it for its ability to change its appearance as a form of protection, in order to survive. Many people tied the chameleon with her ultimate talent, because as the ultimate cosmetologist she can change others and her appearance with make-up. But I think it goes further than this. Her personality is rather unpredictable. Of course, she is usually bubbly, and very talkative, however, it seems she cares a lot about what others think of her. 

At the end of chapter 1, after the trial, the conversation she has with Eva, highlights some interesting details about her character as a whole. She wanted to make both Wolfgang and Eva happy. However, these two had contrasting beliefs, two sides of the same coin. She was forced to choose between two different points of views… But she wasn't able to. So she tried to support both of them, the best she could.

In the end, this choice led Eva to not trust Diana's kindness at all, because she knew Diana was never fully on her side. She would still agree to what Wolfgang said, which implied going against her. What comes next is more concerning, however. And I’m not talking about the fact that Diana might become the antagonist in the future chapter, but strictly about what it will become of her character. To throw away your sense of self so easily and to state that you will live to fulfill somebody else's wish, that she will change to become more like Wolfgang and continue on his footsteps…

And then, I've completed her two fte's and realised that her decision to continue Wolfgang's legacy makes sense. Damon, in the second fte, asks her why she never told anything about herself, but insisted for him to open up more. From Damon's perspective, of course he finds her behavior suspicious, because considering the context and the fact that they are in a killing game, Diana is at advantage, not sharing information about herself.

So I've decided to look again at Diana's first fte and this part was truly interesting. 

She asks if Damon wants her to become his follower. The report card summarizes the conversation by stating that Diana asked Damon what he wanted her to be.

Considering all these aspects, I have reached the conclusion that Diana doesn't really have a "sense of self". She is always seen changing the way she behaves in order to please the person she has a conversation with or is seen asking how she can improve in order to meet the expectations. The reason why she even went to the boiler room was also because she didn't want to disappoint Wolfgang. Diana's always thinking about how others perceive her, so much so that, with time, it seems she has lost her sense of self.

That’s why, the moment when Damon wants Diana to talk about herself, she is restless. Diana has no idea what to say. The only thing we learn about her is the fact that her family is nice and supportive and she never had to worry about money. But she didn't continue on with the conversation, because she felt like she was bragging.

Moreover, she always seems to see the good in people, but is harsher on herself.

Despite Eva being the culprit, Diana considers that it is solely her fault for not saving both her and Wolfgang. Even after the way Eva treated her, she can't see her as a bad person. Diana acknowledges that nothing will ever be the same, but is still standing strong, wishing that her actions will give hope to others. She hasn't just  covered the wound that she received from Wolfgang, but, indirectly, also her trauma and her negative thoughts about herself by stating that she will change, in order for others to not suffer anymore. 

Maybe I'm just biased, but I can't see Diana having any bad intentions. She is just a 17 year old, who experienced something very traumatic, and is trying her best to help the people around her by putting her own needs aside, changing the way she behaves so the others can feel comfortable around her.

Damon and Diana: Design Comparison

Gear up everyone because this is a LONG post. The parallels between Damon and Diana are plentiful, so this post just sticks to just their design elements or else it would never end. Spoilers beneath the cut.

1. Names

The name Diana in Hebrew means “giving light”, “shining one” and “luminous”, but also is associated with leadership. While Diana already acts as a light for many of her classmates, Damon included, I think her leadership role will begin to bloom in Chapter 2.

Meanwhile, the name Damon means “to overpower”, “to conquer”, “one who subdues” and “to tame”, which associates him with power and control as he displayed in the courtroom. Additionally, these terms can be associated with leadership qualities. Damon can also be associated with “guardian spirit” and “loyal friend”.

When comparing the two names to each other, the parallels become clear. Each represent a different approach for how they want to lead the killing game. Diana represents a light/faith-filled and optimistic approach while Damon leads with a more cautious and pessimistic approach. Diana protects everyone while Damon protects those he needs to. Diana is unable to accuse anyone of being capable of murder, as she’s still to inwrapped in light while Damon has the swift execution of power capable to make the decisions to find the culprit, and even turn on those he trusted if needed. Both need each other- Diana’s strength lays in faith and charisma while Damon’s lays in doubt and decision making.

As of Chapter 1, the two embody each other’s weaknesses. If that will change, it could go either way! In an ideal world, the two could grow and learn from each other (a balance if you will), but I think due to Diana’s idolized version of Wolfgang, and Eva’s betrayal of Damon, the two are going to go further down their own paths, convinced that they’re right and the other is wrong.

2. Appearance

Diana’s main colour palette is primary colours, given the red is substituted with the diluted shade of pink. Additionally, the neutral colour she’s paired with is white, which again aligns her with that idea of light, or brightness.

Meanwhile, Damon’s main colour is green, a secondary colour! First and foremost, it’s outside the primary wheel entirely, creating contrast with Diana’s design. It’s also worth noting that the only yellow in Diana’s design is her bowtie above her blue shirt, right where Damon’s green tie goes. Additionally, whereas Damon’s eyes are green, Diana’s are a lighter magenta, which are opposing colours on the colour wheel. The same applies to their hair colours, as Damon is blond and Diana’s hair is a darker shade of magenta than her eyes, pushing it closer to purple, which are also opposite colours on the colour wheel. For those unfamiliar with the wheel, that means the colours, though opposite, compliment each other when paired together!

The same opposing pattern can be found with Damon’s neutral colour scheme, as a majority of his design is dark neutral colours like grey, black, or brown, which opposes Diana’s prominent neutral colour of white. However, they both do have a white undershirt which is a nice similarity between the two, and both are even wearing vests though of different styles

3. Ultimate Talents I would also argue their talents parallel each other! If Damon’s talent is to convince people of something via words (telling), I would say Diana’s talent is to convince people of something via appearance (showing), both two different ways of conveying information. Damon’s talent is pretty self explanatory. He is the Ultimate Debater, responsible for convincing action through words. Diana’s talent though, as the Ultimate Cosmologist, I don’t think has had enough spotlight. Diana’s talent is good enough to convince people she’d never been sliced with a knife- what is that if not convincing via appearance, showing rather than telling? Damon’s talent embodies telling, while Diana’s embodies showing.

Additionally, there's how the two perceive their talents and others. Where Damon is confident in his own talent but thinks everyone else's talent is useless, Diana has the opposite ideology where she downplays her own talent but uplifts everyone else's.

I think it’s really interesting how much their designs compliment each other and I absolutely cannot wait for Chapter 2 to see them interact as protagonist and antagonist.

How come tsar Nicholas II, George VI etc have rabid fans, but George V doesn't?? Do you think if George V have died young, he would have been more appreciated, or even less appreciated than he already is?

Hi! I’d argue Nicholas has more haters than he does lovers. I don’t think his position is covetable.

Nicholas is more significant than George because he was the LAST Tsar. His rule was what gave way to the Soviet Union. It’s very tragic and significant. This doesn’t make George less, it’s really “apple and oranges” if anyone knows that saying.

George vi was the WWII king, which means there is a sizable population who were alive while he was king, that just started to die off, so he is more relevant and remembered in that way. He also has a really good Oscar winning film made about him.

I think George V is overall looked at as a good king, if you ignore the British tabloids who enjoy printing untrue rumors about the Royal family members for clicks.

George was very popular and beloved during his reign, he wouldn’t have changed a thing in my opinion. And is just as remembered and loved as his dad, Edward Vii, or any other popular male British king.

I wanted to add more of my thoughts, since I don't think I did a very good job explaining myself. I did create this blog because I thought George was under represented on Tumblr, and knew if many knew more about him, they would love him!

I do think George has bad press. Most tabloid articles or documentaries are painful to read or watch. My point is majority of prominent British royal family member have bad press (besides mostly the late Queen, Kate, and Diana (but Diana had bad press before she died) so it not really about George. The Queen Mother was very very popular, yet if you google her, it gets really ugly. She does have overly positive documentaries, but there are many unfair articles that paint her as almost demonic. George VI is spared from salacious gossip but I think it's because he really didn't have a drama bone in his body so any story about him would be boring, and sadly journalism today is about clicks and money.

I also agree with one of the comments saying how George did so many great thing but isn't remembered as such. It's a shame that many can't name George's accomplishments, but majority of the world remembers Queen Victoria as a widow, instead of her significant influence in the UK during the Victorian era, which was basically a second Tudor era. We just live in a world where people want silly stories.

I do know George and Nicholas are compared, but it is really SO unfair and silly. They had completely different positions. I think some people love Nicolas hard, because he is hated hard. There are people who think George was a bad father and had a temper, but with Nicholas, people blame him for much much worse. I've written this before but I think it is more interesting journalism today to write something nice about Nicholas since he had such a bad reputation. And with the same mindset, it is newsworthy to write something negative about George, since he was seen as a such a great king and family man.

Basically, anon, I just think you're too hard on George. He is very popular and loved. I do wish George could have a good movie, or even a good and fair documentary (no "royal experts" please.) There was a good documentary about George on YouTube a while ago that was amazing, but it vanished. I think it was a bbc documentary.

There really are so many mistruths about the British Royal Family that are stated by the media as facts. It’s actually really sad because these lies are usually concerning really low moments in the royal family’s lives. Almost like they thrive on the pain of others…

After sparring with Artemis for two hours, I was afinally tired. I thanked her for helping me with my training and thanked her for my room, walking through the living room to get there. The first thing I saw when I got there, was the main justice league,my father,my siblings,Roy and hurt? all having a hushed conversation and sometimes, voice’s would get loud but no one was yelling so I head to where everyone is sitting “What’s wrong? Is everything OK?” I asked and immediately everyone drops the convo and starts acting weird and, after a few moments of silence, my father asked “Yes Darling a…Situation just came up” “Is it something I can help with?” I, still concerned “No but you do need to know “ He says looking at Roy and jade when he finishes the sentence, Catching that I look to Roy and repeat my previous questions “What’s wrong? Is everything ok?” And this time he sighs “It not news to take lightly but just know I’m struggling to” hearing that jade roll’s her eyes and I’m even more concerned before I can ask what he means he speaks again “I just found out today I promise I didn’t know “ “Roy what do you mean your scaring me” “Jade…S-She’s pregnant and I’m the father “…And just like that my world crumbles just a little back story me and Roy have been dating for 7 months but we’ve liked each other for a long time before he ended up getting with jade because it kinda wrong to date your best friend’s sister anyway he and jade broke up two months ago so if you do the math she had to have gotten pregnant in that month they broke up and didn’t tell him “i-i don’t know what to say to that “ I say still in shock “I swear I didn’t know until today baby” I nod and Diana speaks this time “I know this is already a lot to take in and I don’t want to spring to much in you at once but jade is moving into the tower until the baby is born “ and just like that my heart shatters even more she’s having his baby and now I have to see her and her baby bump everywhere I go? Warm With Love (Ice x OC)

Can I make a request for Ice from WSS? Where Velma likes him and makes her think that he cheats and she tries to leave but then he catches her at the train station and stops her from leaving? Thanks and happy new year!!

(I looked up Ice’s real name and it’s Diesel Smith. Not to be confused with the other Jet named Diesel!)

Whoever says snow is a nightmare doesn’t know what they’re missing. Yes the wind is so cold my face hurts, yes my feet are ice cold numb. But it’s all worth it to see the bugs die. And along with the bugs my emotions feel just as lifeless. It’s amazing how a single moment can change someone. Sometimes it’s a fight, sometimes it’s an injury. For me it was a kiss.

I love Diesel Smith. A love skin-deep that I’d never betray. Apparently he had other ideas. 

The annual Snow Ball is supposed to be a magical event, one filled with fancy dresses and fun dancing. I wore a pretty dress, I danced along with Maria and Diana. I was so happy. Then I saw Ice, Diesel Smith, dressed handsomely in a nice suit. I was so looking forward to dancing with him. Next thing I know I turn around to find him locking lips with Velma Anderson.

That was two days ago. Two days for my heart to wither and die. My parents agreed that a fresh environment would do me some good so they arranged for me to visit my grandparents in Maine. Now that I’m at the station, still numb from the blizzard outside, all my feelings start tumbling through. How have I become this? Was I too stupid to trust him? Will I be able to handle homesickness-?

“Elaine!”

And now I’m even hearing Ice’s voice in my head.

“Elaine! Wait up!”

Scratch that. He’s running up from behind. Wait- what?

I turn around and see Ice racing towards me. Just keep going! It’s not worth it. I’m almost to the ticket counter-

Suddenly I feel someone grab my hand. He’s got real guts for showing his face!

Ice pants to catch his breath. “You never answered my calls. I went to your house and your folks said you was leaving.”

I yank my hand away and avoid his gaze. “Why would I answer your calls, Diesel? After the stunt you pulled it’s pretty obvious that I don’t want to hold onto what will make me sad. I’ve become the juiciest gossip, the laughing stock of all the goils at school, all because I wasn’t good enough for you.” I give one final nod to clarify my decision. “Goodbye, Ice.”

He keeps staggering after me as I walk down the hall. It’s after the holidays so there’s not much traffic. Maybe I can get a seat to myself-

“But- But honey I luv you!”

God, why do you have to make this so hard?

I take a deep breath and stop to grab the side counter to steady myself, still avoiding his gaze. “I thought you did too. Then I saw you there with Velma.” Fighting my nerves, I look up slowly. “I’ll miss you, Ice, but I will not be part of something like this. I will not be the other woman.”

Before I burst into tears I sprint onto the train just as the doors close. After quickly finding my seat I hear the train begin to start. I suppose now I should start looking for a temporary job once I get to Maine-

Tap tap!

A loud noise jerks my head up to see the maniac himself clinging outside my window.

“Please, Elaine? Just let me explain. Open the window!”

Now I really am crying. Hot tears stream down my cheeks and remind me of how much I’ve been holding back. I don’t know why I’m listening to him but sure enough I unlock the window to allow the Jet inside. The frigid air outside sends a chill down my spine and almost freezes my tears. Ice tumbles into my lap and I feel he’s just as cold.

“Just let go, Diesel!” I shove him off.

He’s quick to stand up and kneels in front of me. “Do you remember when we met?”

When we…? What’s he playing at?

“I’ll always remember. It was January, on your birthday. You were helping your dad with my car in his shop, and it was so cold the oil froze. Your dad said to keep working. I gave you my gloves, your hands were so cold…”

Ice sees I’ve started to calm down (even though I’m still mad) and he cautiously reaches his hands out to grab mine.

“Yours are cold.”

I bite my lip to keep a sob down. “Cold numbs pain. But I don’t think this pain will go away.”

“You’re right.” Ice’s simple words clench my heart even more. “It won’t until I prove it to you.”

I slowly lift my head to look at him through watery eyes. “Prove what?”

Ice is closer now. His eyes aren’t the same. Not so cold or fearless when he’s with the Jets. Instead they’re… afraid. Soft and timid, as if he’s afraid he’ll never be happy again.

“Prove that I love you. Velma kissed me. I never said yes. She just- just sprang it on me. But I understand why you don’t believe me.” Now he’s starting to tear up too. “You deserve the world and more, honey. I’m jealous of the guy who’s gonna steal your heart wherever you end up. But if he’ll make you happy, then I’ll be happy.”

Oh God… He does luv me. It was all Velma, not him! Relief and joy rush through my veins, rekindling the spark for Ice I thought I’d lost. There’s no way I could trade this for any other man.

“Then you’re jealous of him,” I point to his reflection in the window.

Ice looks back and forth between me and the window with a stunned expression. “I don’t get it. All I see is me.”

“Exactly.” His eyes widen as I press a soft kiss to his cheek. “I want you in my life, Diesel Smith.”

“Oh my God thank you!” Ice falls into my lap and pulls me in for a hug to kiss the top of my head. “I promise you will never be the other woman, you’ll be my only woman. And I’m your man, sweetheart. It’s you and me against the world.”

“Won’t the Jets miss you?”

Ice shakes his head and lays it on my lap. “I quit. Told Riff I’m giving up the Jets to start a clean life.”

My jaw drops. “But I thought-!”

Ice presses a finger to my mouth. “The Jets aren’t gonna miss me, Elaine. Yeah I’ll admit I’m sad to leave but I’d hate it even more if you’re not with me.” He snuggles closer. “Could ya wake me up when we get to- wherever it is you’re going?”

I laugh and stroke his soft hair. “Sure thing, Diesel.”

We both settle down in the seat in a comfortable silence and as Ice falls asleep I watch the billowing snow through the frosted window. The weather can dish up the coldest winter but I don’t care. Ice keeps me warmer than the sun.

Nnadi: Diana… *scoffs* I would congratulate you on getting into Foxbury but getting a degree from a woke institution means nothing in the eyes of God. And how could you? Our grandmother died and you show up dressed like a slut, dragging around that sad excuse of a man you’re fornicating with.

Diana: What the— You know what? I’m sick of trying to be nice to you! 5 or 10 years ago I would have been hurt by the things you say to me but now? I don’t care. Because there’s a whole world out there to explore, a bunch of things to learn, and you’re going to experience none of it. You’re only going to go to your kitchen to make ungrateful kids burnt toast for breakfast, to Sim-Mart to buy bread, not even with your own money, and then back home to have boring, horrible sex with a small dick loser who sees you as his property and thinks he’s superior to you even though he can’t even control himself when he sees a shoulder. You’re gonna have a million kids, half of which are going to grow to resent you. Then you’re gonna have an identity crisis when you’re 40 and can’t pop out any more children. And you’re doing all of this for brownie points with a cosmic being there’s no concrete evidence exists. You’re sad, Nnadi. You can take your fugly engagement ring and shove it up your ass.

Breyonnah: Look, I’m not gonna try to convert you guys anymore. I realized something. I hate that it took Mom dying to realize it, but better late than never, I suppose. Mom was a good person. I think… well at least I hope, that means something in the eyes of God. You two are great people too, but I don’t want to wait until you die before I reunite with you. We’ll never agree on most things, but you guys are still my sisters, and I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.

I know the fandom has already debated this several times before, but I think I have a different opinion (kind of) on the matter of John being faithful to Isobel during their marriage.

I don’t remember if Diana ever answered this question. So if she did, please, let me know in the comments.

To keep it short: I believe he was, but I don’t think he would’ve remained faithful if the marriage lasted longer. And I actually don’t think he intended to be faithful in the first place. I don’t believe he was actively looking for sexual encounters and one-night stands though, but if the opportunity presented itself to him, I don’t think he would’ve denied it. And eventually, it would happen.

A lot of people assume he was willing to be faithful because the marriage lasted only a few years (4 years, I think?), so looking in hindsight it doesn’t look like he made that big of a compromise.

But that’s the thing: he couldn’t possibly know that Isobel was going to die so young. When he decided to marry her, he was prepared to spend the rest of his life as a married man. And don’t get me wrong, John might be an honorable man, but I don’t believe for a second that he was willing to take on some kind of gay celibacy in order to stay faithful to Isobel for the rest of his days.

He told Claire he was loyal to Isobel, and I believe him. Maybe his sense of duty and honor prevented him from keeping the same energy as before lol. Maybe it just… didn’t happen.

But did he marry Isobel with the intention of not sleeping with another man ever again? Honestly, I don’t think so. At some point he would and he knew that beforehand, even if he wasn’t sleeping with anyone else during those years.

(Which we don’t really know for sure? My guess is that he didn’t sleep with any men, but he might have done it. Unless Diana already confirmed it)

He would’ve been extra careful about it, though. A lot of people believe that he wouldn’t risk exposure — therefore, dragging both his and Isobel’s names through the mud — and that’s why he remained faithful. But that goes back to the same problem: would he have done it for the rest of his life? Hmm 🤨 doubt it. So no, I don’t believe the risk of exposure would do much to keep him from cheating.

Also, William’s name (and the Grey family, may I add) would be affected by an exposure too, and we know for sure that being a Grey and raising William never stopped him from doing anything so there’s that.

He is just very careful and discreet* and being married and having a child would make him even more careful and discreet, but wouldn’t stop him from having sex with men.

*cough cough George Everett cough that problematic scene in Drums (sensibly modified for the show, thank God) cough cough… well, he has been reckless but whatever, he is discreet overall*

Also, John is an aristocrat man living in the 18th century. His idea of an honorable marriage would be different — and yes, it might involve a tolerance for indiscretions, depending on the circumstances. Convenience marriages were very common among his peers and faithfulness was not something expected in such arrangements (especially not from men).

I believe that, with all the information that we have, it’s safe for us to say that John is talking about his own marriage to Isobel in this scene in Drums when he is talking to Bree:

“You're right, I think. To live with someone you love, knowing that they tolerate the relation only for the sake of obligation — no, I wouldn't do it, either. Were it only a matter of convenience and respect on both sides, then yes; such a marriage is one of honor. As long as both parties are honest —” His mouth twisted briefly as he glanced in the direction of the servants’ quarters. “There is no need for shame on either side.” (Drums of Autumn, ch. 59)

I don’t think Isobel was operating on the idea that John loved her, and vice versa. They both knew it wasn’t love, but it was suitable. And that’s the way things work in their upper crust world. I truly believe that they liked and respected each other a lot. And if Isobel was to take a lover for herself, John wouldn’t mind. He would’ve wanted her to, actually, so he wouldn’t be the only one seeking partners elsewhere.

Now, if they ever discussed this openly is another matter. I don’t think they did, it might have been an unspoken agreement. And Isobel definitely wouldn’t know about John’s sexuality — so maybe that’s the irony of “as long as both parties are honest” in his speech. They were honest to a certain extent: they both knew it was a convenience marriage and that love played no part in it, but Isobel never knew the truth about John.

I don’t believe John would’ve had any serious relationships though. Well, he doesn’t have any as a widower either lmfao John runs like the devil from serious commitments, so being married or not doesn’t really make a difference.

Maybe we will get more information on all of this in the next LJG novel if it ever sees the light of day. Diana said the novel was going to cover his years working for the English Black Chamber, which I believe to have happened at the same time as his marriage to Isobel? idk I suck at keeping up with the timeline of these books
