You know, tolkien was on another one when writing specifically from Sam's point of view.
I'm sorry, but "he longed only for his master, for one sight of his face or one touch of his hand"???? That shit is SO romantic I might die.
And while in all of lotr there is a lot of platonic love expressed between men (love to see it!) even physical touch there is such a stark difference between the way it is written for pippin and merry versus frodo and sam. Sam's devotion is on another level, and you might say that is because frodo is his master but like. If anything that explains it less!!! He is frodo's gardener and sure they are friendly but I don't know about you but I would not weep so hard for my employer or be willing to die for them.
This whole passage, btw is basically sam, rescuing frodo from the top of a tower, which even at the time of tolkien writing lotr was already established as very much, not a platonic move. Think of any other story where our protagonist (ignore that frodo is also our protagonist for a minute he is the love interest right now) goes up against an enemy, ready to die just to get to the very top of the tower in hope to save someone they love. That shit is not platonic. It COULD BE. It isn't, tho.
The thing is the way merry and pippin were written specifically is a great example of how platonic love is portrayed in the books otherwise. Let me tell you, the two of them do not long for each other's touch ONCE. Pippin thinks of merry often, and Merry wishes pippin were there with him, and they both hope against hope they will see each other again, and it is very sweet, don't get me wrong. But they way it is written inherently reads platonic, whereas any time we see Sam's perspective, it is fuelled with such an intense longing/devotion that is unexplainable by their circumstances.
At this point in the story it actually does not make any sense for sam to risk his life/the capture of the ring/the END of their quest for frodo who for all we know might already be dead. Sam has the ring he is just as capable of delivering it to mordor, yet he chases orcs and exerts a LOT of energy just to get a chance at rescuing frodo. WHAT EVEN IS THIS??? this is more romantic than any romance books I have ever read!
#thoughts#lotr#okay i did not mean to ramble on about this#but like!!!!#what is this#idk but i love it#return of the king#frodo baggins#samwise gamgee#frodo x sam#books#currently reading

Can you give advice on storywriting? I love the idea of it but I cant do it properly?
Struggling with wording and like how to make each character their own/how to make a well written character??
Aandd how do I know what information to keep and what to tell? I always rush to tell things and I struggle with "show dont tell"
And pacing lmao😭 I dont know how to pace my stories well
You seem to be really good and I read your book (I litterally.. tried to learn polish for the sake of reading it lmao;;; its so good) and a few of your stories too.. any tips would be appreciated
first of all, oh my gosh, I'm literally honoured hshshsh you tried to read my book??? gonna break down right here pleaseee thank you😭
okay I'll try to get to it as well as I can, I hope it'll help at least a bit. you can always message me or send more asks <3 under the cut because its long
making the character be good, have a personality that's actually theirs is probably the hardest thing in writing. it's a bit easier in fanfiction than original work because you see them acting on stage and you see the headcanons so you have a base for it, let's say. but it's still hard. id say there are three ways of approaching this. going off vibes, projection and careful scheming and planning.
going off vibes would be just "okay he does on stage that, so i think he'd act like that off stage", pretty simple, going mostly with your guts yk
projection can go a long way. two ways actually. you can write a character that similar to you or you can write a character that is something you're lacking. of course you can mix it all, but thats the best i can describe it. my rain is me, my dew is me, my swiss and mountain is what i wish i had. caeril is me, neithan is me, etc.
careful scheming and planning is also a good way but if done wrong the character is not gonna feel real, its gonna be dry and just fake. what i mean by that is finding a character sheet with physical characteristics as well as personality traits and thinking it all over, carefully planning what you want the character to be. i myself don't do that, it feels too... artificial for me. if used correctly, tho, it can really slay because then the character can be very well thought over
you gotta try different things, u dont have to write a big 10k word fic right away. you can if you want of course but id say start with one shots, make them your character sheets. do some character study, create them and then put them into a biger picture. it takes time and practice, as evereything
the thing with show dont tell is also a thing of practice. theres no rules as to what info you should keep and what is unneccessary. show dont tell doesnt mean just show, never tell. telling isn't wrong, but writing should put the reader's brain to work, they should be seeing what you saw when you were writing. the best way to do this is basing on the senses. when writing a sentence and you doubt if its necessarry, ask yourself "okay if i was a reader what does this sentence give me? does it give me anything? what senses does it influence? does it help me paint the scene in my brain?". gotta go with feeling and overtime youlll find the perfect balance between showing and telling descriptions and that'll be your style. i make my works pretty descriptive and easy to imagine for the readers because i started with tolkien. i aspired to be like him which is of course impossible but slivers of his writing style can be seen in mine. one of those slivers is rich descriptive imagery
pacing the stories is also really hard. main rule is to not make it boring, but how to achieve it? lmao its not that easy fr. if you do an oneshot you can keep a standard introduction-main part-conclusion structure. first paint the situation, paint the place where this is happening. main part should be the longest, this is what IS your work, the most important thing. conclusion can be slow and short. tell the reader how the main part of the text changed something from the introduction, just nicely close it out. of course you dont have to, we love open endings but this is the easiest thing, id say
with bigger fics, multichapter, go wild. introduction is important but you dont have to put in on the beginning. you can start mysteriously and explain what the fuck its about in te 3rd chapter or even at the very end. build some tension but also give the reader a moment to breathe. the longer the text the more possibilieties you have but overdoing it is not good either, plan it, sketch a storyline. as everything, its a thing of practice and finding your style
and doing all that never forget about the technical bits. good story that has a terrible formatting automatically becomes a worse story because its not nice to look at. learn the proper ways to format a dialogue, work on punctuation, dont forget to capitalize (says me without a single capitalized letter and the worst grammar punctuation and typos in this whole post lmao im trying to type it in quickly sorry). dont be afraid of clicking enter, make space. formatting can also be helful in building tension, short sentences do that. you can highight an information by putting the sentecne with it alone in a line. a lot of things, also style, but you still should keep to the actual rules. treat your work as something great, dont do it half assed. treat it like it'd be supposed to be published, yk?
okay im done this is so long ugh i hope anything here is at least a bit understandable sorry but also if u or anyone have any more questions feel free to hit the ask box/dms hehehe

aaaa! 1, 7 and 8 for the choose violence thingie please! :D
Eheheheh, thank you. :D Sorry this took so long, apparently my days of struggling to write coherent sentences are coming to a decided middle. >.>
1. the character everyone gets wrong
Every character ever exposed to prolonged fanon. I'm going to chime in on behalf of Aegnor here. The number of times I've seen people call him spineless or stupid for breaking things off with Andreth, and I'm like, no!!! Part of the whole tragedy of their story is that his reasons were very understandable. No one else had ever been in their situation before! The peace didn't last forever! Personally, I think it was the wrong choice, I think he should've just gone for it and damn the consequences, but it but it was an understandable, sympathetic choice. He wasn't spineless for not wanting to drag her into danger with him. Where I fault him most is that he clearly didn't manage to explain his reasons sufficiently to her, because years down the line she clearly feels snubbed because of Elven snootiness, and it needs Finrod to chime in and assure her. (AIKANÁR THE SHARP-FLAME LOVED THEE!!!!!) But his actual reasons were heartbreakingly valid.
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
Gosh, I don't actually know!! I don't think there are any characters in Tolkien that I truly can't stand, and since I only got into the fandom a couple of years ago, I'm fandom-old and fandom-cynical enough that I could guess the sort of hot takes that would be swirling around the characters I'm neutral-to-negative on (eg. Fëanor, Maeglin) so I made a pre-emptive decision not to go near those corners of fandom. XD
But that's no fun for a Choose Violence meme. So I will say I have have bouts of getting irritated about the popularity of Fingon. I don't even dislike him - as someone who grew up very close to my cousins, but ended up growing apart and am forever sad about that, his reasons for going to rescue Maedhros actually struck a real chord with me - but... I don't know. But apart from the rescue episode, I really don't care that much about him, so his fandom fave status does have me sometimes sitting in the corner going "...why tho?"
Also the neverending trial of being someone who loves Maedhros but doesn't ship Russingon. Sorry, Fingon, you're gonna have to bear my irritation on that score, too. It's all just amounted to giving me a kneejerk reaction of, "Fingon, can you kindly fuck off please?" XD
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Answered that one here. There are probably others, but none I can think of at the moment!
🔥 choose violence ask game 🔥

17 and 18 for Rings of Power!
The Rings of Power themed asks. 🍃✨
17. What are your thoughts on the original characters? Do you like them? (For example: Nori, Bronwyn, Adar)
I absolutely adore all the original characters in the series and their arcs are usually the ones I am most invested in. The whole arcs with the Southlands (yeah I know they don't exist anymore) was such a joy to watch.
Someone on twitter refereed to Arondir as the "the elfest elf that ever elfed" and I think that is more than accurate. He is kind, noble, determined and just so good in every way. The interactions between him and Adar? This bond of both mutual respect and attempting to understand the other, but ultimately taking a different path in the end. I love his relationship with Bronwyn, they way they are so dedicated to each other but also willing to let the other go for a greater sake. They way they support and comfort each other throughout the series <3<3
Bronwyn is great too, probably my favorite female character from the series. She is also kind and very courageous and they way she is ready to take up a weapon to defend others and how she ends up taking the responsibility for coordinating resources and shelter for the people fleeing from the uruks. They way she unconditionally loves her son and Arondir <3<3
There are many more great original characters, but this is already getting so long
18. What are your thoughts on the portrayal of the canon characters? (For example: Galadriel and Elrond)
I am gonna preface this by saying that the only books of Tolkien I've read by now are the Hobbit and the Silmarillion so my knowledge on the lotr triology is mostly based on the movies. (Also I'm gonna stick with Miriel, Elrond and Galadriel here because I have the most thoughts about them)
I do like the changes the made to Miriel's character. I remember reading the Silm and wondering what Numenor might have been like under her reign and how sad it was that so much of her character is just a victim, a victim of Ar-Pharazôn and Sauron and later on a victim of Numenor being turned into Atlantis. Miriel in Trop just feels so refreshing compared to that. I wish the Numenor arc would have gotten a bit more attention, especially the relationship between Miriel and her father, but all the episodes with her
Elrond, is Elrond. He's fine The scenes with him in it always feel a bit odd tho. I recently started watching the series with my mother and she said about him: "He sounds like a politician" and I couldn't agree more. Now, I am aware that this is what the show is going for and the way he carries himself and his speech make sense for the position he holds at Gil-galads court. What makes scenes with feel so odd to me is that he seems to carry this behavior into these very personal scenes where he interacts with Disa and Durin and because of that they don't seem as heartfelt and intimate as they should. I mean, especially the scene where Durin voices his anger over the disagreement with his father and Elrond explains the relationship with his father, it sounds like he is reciting something and not offering insight on his friend. Although that part could also be a result of the German voice actors performance. I doesn't matter either way, this is a interpretation of Elronds character, a legitimate one and I don't hate it. It is fine. His haircut is always a joy to look at.
Galadriel is just like that. Idk I mean you have these really great aspects that you can base her story off. The death of her brother and husband, the survivors guilt, this feeling of restlessness and also this fear of going to the west and possibly thinking that she might not deserve it yet. And then they go ahead and show her to be this really cold, selfish and manipulative character and I am just asking myself where it went wrong.
And yes, those are flaws, every good character has those. But I feel with the way her story and character is written, she just comes of as utterly unlikable. I am not interested in seeing her evolve and change for the better, or face the consequences for her actions because her motivation seems so weird and her struggles seem to be non-existant. I mean Celeborns death for example has had such a big impact on her, I don't understand why they did not hint at that sooner in the show until her conversation with Halbrand (?) Why didn't they show her grieving, why do they never show her struggling with her values and believes, why is the majority of her arc her just try to find and destroy Sauron and not doing anything else? Also, the whole thing with taking the boat to the west. You could have done so much with that. But in the show you just see her conversation with Elrond about it where she makes it clear that she won't accept this gift from Gil-galad with the reason that he work isn't finished. And then the next scene is just her on the boat. I mean, this is literally a journey with no return why did they not show her trying to come terms with that or her fear of leaving her friends and Middle Earth behind, her feeling that she might not worthy of accepting something like that. (Maybe also her wondering if she will see her family again. I mean in Tolkiens work Finrod was allowed to leave the Halls of Mandos)
Like, I don't get it. I really don't. I am not a fan of her arc during the first season and neither is my mother (who hasn't seen all the episodes yet).
Thanks for asking!

I get so frustrated when some fantasy snobs disparage the Portal Fantasy genre because like literally any genre done well is done well and any genre done bad is done bad and portal fantasy has brought us some of the most iconic and popular pieces of work in the genre in both books/movies/tv like... Narnia, The Dark Tower, His Dark Materials, Spirited Away, Coraline, Doctor Who, Howls Moving Castle (the book), fucking Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Gregor the Overlander, Percy Jackson, Outlander, Inkheart, Peter Pan, STARDUST, even Harry Potter could technically be classified as such due to the portal like nature of entering the wizarding world and so many others. Literally those are just the ones I can see on my bookshelf/dvd collection right. now. The way portals/secondary worlds are used in these words is varied and different, sometimes its referential, sometimes its not.
And I spend my time on lots of writing forums and I get tired of hearing that “portal stories are lazy/outdated because if your writing was tight the character would just exist in your world already” and to that I’d argue that’s not true. Some of the best aspects of portal fantasy is being able to experience the exploration and wonder or horror of a new world with a character, to me I find that exploration wildly interesting to see how people from our world would cope with that scifi-esq idea of another parallel universe/world/moment in time. Idk sometimes I feel these people haven’t read a relevant portal masterpiece since they read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe as a child and it SHOWS. Like character preexisting in a fantasy world can also be done cliche and bad, the piles of absolute garbage Tolkien derivative fantasy on the shelves at the book store or for kindle from self-publishers on Amazon is a testament to that.
Maybe, just maybe, good writing is good because it is good and bland writing is bland because it is bland no matter the genre.
#writing#idk i really hate genre shaming#bc i also unabashedly love portal fantasy#it is some of my favorite#and i never tire of new explorations#bc the possiblities with story telling are endless like how cool is that#anyways if i have to read another boring world building novel that doesn't actually engage me#i'll only read modern portal fantasy for a year out of spite#if i see orcs bad elves good in your book i am BORED.#but the existence of a portal itself#fun cool amazing beautiful special i love it#just make your 'other' world interesting#make your characters engaging#i love tolkien tho don't get me wrong#but like he literally does his own style the BEST#like you can't touch that i'm sorry its ICONIC at this point#people say grrm copied tolkien all the time and i don't feel that is true#his books have a much different tone and much less magic and different 'creatures'

ok I'll bite, this is your invitation to talk about ingwe if you want!
omg so ingwe is my man my buddy my ride or die u know....im just a huge fan of him and i wish tolkien wrote more on him bc u can't just pepper in the fact that he is the high king of the eldar like THE high king and never expand on that. so allow me to climb onto my little soapbox and talk about some general headcanons for ingwe 📢
first of all - in my pov - he's like massively tall. like he's not thingol tall bc his old buddy in the forest is like a tree. but he's definitely taller than maedhros. not by heaps because nelyo isn't called maedhros the tall for nothing. but ingwe is abt just 7'8 (bc i think thingol is 8 foot and maedhros is 7'6). ingwe never tells finwe but he's worried that his eldest grandson might grow taller than him but luckily that never happens. thank god.
then even if its up to interpretation for everyone, i like to think of him as having a light skin tone and very blue eyes but veering towards dark blue. he's def a blondie, he has that pretty vanyar colour that seems to be almost golden but paler strands are caught in the light. it's wavy and thick too!!
ALTHOUGH even tho most elves treasure long hair and like to keep it long (and especially, the vanyar - they are so picky abt appearances), ingwe's hair stops just after his shoulders. and courtiers are always like 'why doesnt he grow his hair out 🤨' and ingwe is like sorry i cant hear u.
he always kept his hair shorter since the days when he was in middle earth, and living a far more treacherous life before coming to valinor. it was practical for him and he felt more comfortable with it being out of his face. or he goes around with a half up/half down hairstyle and no one has the audacity to tell their high king that he should have long hair. like its ingwe, what can ya do?
my main hc for his personality is that even though he presides over arguably the most gilded/golden eldar, he's not a fan of being ostentatious and showy. he's not the flamboyant sort.
i kinda hc all the three high kings of valinor to be like that. ingwe, finwe and olwe both came to valinor from middle earth in the early days of the eldar. they made that treacherous journey and i feel like they were a bit more 'savage' in those days. so even though, they are far more comfortable now - they never really forget what it was like being hunted by foul creatures and seeing their people being captured by melkor.
ingwe used to be a hunter. when the elves first awoke, they had their own 'tribes' of a sort with a chieftan (the vanyar were lead by ingwe's grandfather - imin). they banded together, hunted for furs and used spears. they had such close tight-knit loyalty and they really did live off the lands of arda.
he was furious when melkor was released. like don't get me wrong he respects the valar a lot. and he's pretty devout towards them too. but ingwe couldn't understand why the valar let melkor walk among the eldar and the blessed lands after the horrors that he had seen, as had some of the older elves. he still has a scar from a gruesome beast in middle earth but the scar is tucked underneath fine fabrics and robes on his collar.
he prob gets nightmares a lot too :( i mean it would definitely have a lasting effect of the horrors he has seen. he doesn't sleep very often, he prefers to stay awake and he often sits on his balcony and just gazes towards taniquetil.
but hes v friendly!! he has this easy going charm and he seems pretty cheerful. elves are shocked at how loosely relaxed the high king is, they expect a stuffy king who loves proper manner and decorum. but ingwe is chill yknow.
like he dotes on his niece, indis, as well as her sons like finarfin. he likes fingolfin a good amount, he often remarks that fingolfin reminds him of finwe and he loves telling stories abt finwe's youth to fingolfin - much to finwe's chagrin.
he doesn't know what to think abt feanor. he doesn't want to dislike him but he finds feanor just strange. ingwe knew miriel since they were both very young and he sees that fierce glint that she had in feanor's eyes. but feanor's eyes burn differently and ingwe doesn't tell finwe that he worries abt his friend's eldest son. later, when feanor is clutching finwe's broken scalp on the floor after the darkening, and when the teleri are massacred in their home, ingwe feels sick to his stomach and wanders if it was his fault.
finarfin loves him. finrod by extent.
he sometimes feels like a fraud. (little self promo i wrote abt him hehe) he sits in halls of towering columns and gold on the floor. he eats at tables laden with confection and fine meats. he dresses in fine ermine and has a golden crown on his head. he just feels like he's playing a part of a king - and at heart, he's a warrior who belongs in the dark forests of middle earth.
#silmarillion#silm writing#silm#ingwe#tolkien#lotr#tolkien writing#silmarillion fic#silmarillion meta#anyway i just have many thoughts abt him!#rosie 🧡#creations#creations: writing#creations: 2022#thank u for asking hehe

LOVE gssb, would you happen to have any other non fiction podcast recs?
welllll i don't listen to anything that's got remotely the same vibes as gssb -- even homestuck made this world feels appreciably different despite being made by the same two guys lol.. somehow gssb cmrn always understands me and yet hmsw cmrn is my mortal enemy who's never been more consistently wrong about anything in his life. anyway. other nonfiction podcasts i have historically enjoyed: 8-bit book club, loremen, harry potter and the sacred text, the tolkien professor, american vampire, museum of the vanishing dog, a more civilized age, normal gossip, and death panel. i would also say that even tho it is not nonfiction, friends at the table is probably the podcast ive listened to that gets closest to gssb vibe-wise. just long-winded people discussing minutiae for three hours at a time (complementary). also sometimes f@/tt and gssb cite each other which is always like a treat to me

Hi! I just started following you recently but I love your LOTR/Silmarillion takes. :) Who are some of your favorite characters in Tolkien's books and why? Also sorry I'm anonymous,I'm just shy
Thank you so much! ❤️ And no worries, I don't mind anonym - and I am always willing to talk :)
So. Favourite characters. Kind of complicated since I love pretty much everyone, BUT I'll try to tone it down. Also, I am talking about book characters here - so not the movies.
... I also have a tendency to fixate on minor and not-talked-about characters.
Elrond - absolute favourite out of all. He is the type of character I've always been drawn to - the old, wise, kind mentor-like figure. I like how he is always there in the background, but never the protagonist of the story - yet appears in all of them. He is what connects the stories of Middle Earth more than any other character, I think. I also have a tendency to think of his relationships with literally everyone, which... Yeah, may show a bit in my posts, tho I try to tone it down lol
Eärendil - the themes of his story are way too cool for me to ignore them. The idea of the ultimate sacrifice of one's happiness in hope that others will have a better life because if it; the star of Hopes when, really, every time Eärendil's feelings are described, it is about how tired he is.
Elwing - I love her. She is so young when her main story happens and went through way too much. The 'fuck you' she gives to fëanorians when she jumps? Iconic. Terribly sad, but iconic. Again, I love her story and themes overall. She deserves way more love.
Vardamir - I looked at this guy who has one paragraph in the Unfinished Tales, took the little info we have and based his whole headcanoned personality on it. I am not sorry and I love him.
Half-elves in general - because this is going to be way too long even without me naming every one of them. They never really belong anywhere - or so to say, belong to too many places and people at once. Yeah, in the end, they get their choice, but it doesn't erase the other part of their heritage - and the theme of constant sadness, loss; separation, loneliness, longing, yet prevailing hope... Yeah, I love it. Dior, all pairs of E twins, Arwen, everyone. I love them.
Isildur - my love for him started with annoyance about 'cast it into the fire' memes and never ended. I love him. He represents the best traits of his people - courage, hope, willingness to admit he is wrong. He is proud - he says so himself; he makes mistakes - everyone does. But he tries his best to be good, and he is. And honestly, his death scene? The way it is worded gives me chills - how he feels a terrible loss when the Ring leaves him, but then a great relief, and dies a free man.
Rangers of the North - I would be the first to admit I don't really post about them, but I love them with all my heart. These guys wandered the wilds for thousand years - unacknowledged for their deeds, looked upon as vagabonds, but still doing their duty and protecting the folk who didn't know of the evil lurking right outside of their door. Halbarad and Aragorn fall into this category, so I am not going to make a separate point for them, but I love them.
Merry Brandybuck - I felt the need to include at least one of the hobbits (I love them all) and Merry is my favourite out of the lot (not by a lot, they are all brilliant). I fell in love with him during the fifth chapter when he was like 'yeah Frodo, I've known about the Ring for years. Bilbo used it to hide from Lobelia. Also, there is a huge conspiracy against you and we are going with you whether you like it or not. Deal with it bro.' Iconic. I never stopped loving him since then. And he is a nerd - he wrote a book! About pipeweed! He is also cleverer than people give him credit for.
Gil-galad - I first heard of him when Sam sang the song in LotR and as a lover of history and epics, a legendary dead elven king was all info I needed to love him. As I've learned more about him, I loved him even more.
Denethor - about whom I also don't post. I find him interesting - he is a flawed and proud man, but also clever and noble and strong. He has some of the most complicated family relationships we see in LotR, his banter with Gandalf is brilliant, his mind battles with Sauron for decades, his interactions with Pippin. And I love how he and Théoden contrast each other - Théoden who fell into darkness and rose out of it stronger than ever, never losing hope, riding into battle alike to Oromë when the world was young; and Denethor, who only had the amdír kind of hope, and once he lost it, fell into despair and died.
Honorary mentions because explaining everyone who is among my favourites would take way too long *inhales*
Celebrían, Celeborn, Éomer, Éowyn, Faramir, Boromir, Finarfin, Gilraen, Glorfindel, Théoden, Bilbo, Frodo, Pippin, Sam, Imrahil, Beregond, Tar-Míriel, Húrin, Gwindor, Orodreth, Rog, Turgon, Idril, Celebrimbor, Tuor, Thingol, Maglor, this is a mess and I should stop before I name literally everyone.
*exhales*
Extra honorary mentions
Queen Berúthiel and Tevildo. Icons.
#this got long and i am so sorry :D#... that's a lie i am not#anyway#to note: if i named someone it doesn't automatically mean i agree with all of their actions and opinions#obviously#but saying it just in case#also#if you name a character the chance is i love them#feel free to ask me about anyone lol#and thank you for the ask!#❤️#but yeah#number 1 character remains elrond#:D

Thank you sooo much for the tag, love @sodalitefully 💖💖💖
1. Why did you choose your url?
I always was obsessed with The Lord of the Rings, that's probably my fave movies and book I've ever seen and read in my entire life. So when I was in the process of making this blog I decided I want a name that has a connection to this obsession of mine but still wasn't a fandom-ish. You know like all of these "Legolas's-first-slut" or "want-to-live-in-middle-earth" 😂 I love these, but this blog was made for music purposes so I wanted a neutral URL. So eruvande is basically my own name in quenya - an ancient elvish language.
2. Any side blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them
Yes! @errruvande is a side blog for my Tolkien obsession only!💗 For my LOTR/TH writings and shitposts.
3. How long have you been on Tumblr?
Ah probably for 3 year I guess
@errruvande is ~4 months old ✨baby blog
4. Do you have a queue tag?
I have now, for my writing blog. It is "From the depth of Moria this post has come" but I'm not using it often, tho
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
I always loved music nobody around me listen to. No matter of it's 80's rock or 60's rock'n'roll and pop I always was kinda alone in my obsession. So I started this one to find people I can talk about music with.
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
Ahshahjksjkaa CAUSE SLASH babe is the love of my life
7. Why did you choose your header?
Cause Haldir is also the love of my life 👉🏼👈🏼
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
Ahhhhhhh here is probably this one
On side-blog - this one (Legolas x F!Reader fic)
9. How many mutuals do you have?
I need to count this😂 -> 47
10. How many followers do you have?
207 here and 142 on my side acc
11. How many people do you follow?
208

years after the hobbit movies and i have to agree, i remember some1 did say the ending becomes the shittiest ending ever once u get attached to the characters and i agree, the more i think about it and read about how dreary it is to watch chars suffer and get no good ending in sight, i have to say i really don't like it, especially with the choice to make thorin's gold sickness like a mental illness, tho it was still bad in the books bc the greed trope is antisemitic given the 1/
(continued) jewish influence. in the book ur meant to only care about bilbo and the death of thorin's line is meant to be like some punishment, but in the movies it just feels even more unfair. i see a char who was driven for their home, abandoned by their allies and told by every single char he would turn mad, and he's treated like a bad guy before it happens and it just bugs me?? ik it can't be changed but it would have been so different to see a char struggle with that and have a storyline 2/ where they actually do get to live, we see him overcome it but the movies are just one thing after another and he never gets a break, and has a bond with bilbo that would feel wrong to be forgotten in lotr? idk that's my feelings about making them more fleshed out, and i love movie thorin, as a jewish fan it meant a lot to me to have a serious dwarf char in the movies but it's harder to watch and doesn't feel like a good tragedy, i guess this is why i still live for fixit fics lol.”
(i figured i’d put all ur asks together just for the sake of flow)
ugh YEAH dude its like. on so many levels it does not feel good it is not a satisfying ending. theres a way to do tragedy that is successful if it comes with some catharsis, but the hobbit ending, in both the book and the movies, always felt very empty to me. idk it just feels really fucking shitty that bilbo goes home and is stuck in this like, emotionally stunted place unable to properly grieve (i for one think the ring doesnt just slow his physical aging but his emotional growth as well)... we see him at 111 still basically running from any serious feelings and making jokes and feeling restless and its just. i dont for a second believe he gets to make peace with thorin’s death until the ring is destroyed. and as for thorin himself... oh man. his book characterization kinda sucked it rlly was some troubling jewish stereotypes (which fortunately, tolkien became aware of and tried to rectify with gimli in lotr). the movies allowed thorin to be much more sympathetic and noble and heroic, which i LOVE, but it hurts so much more to watch everything in the world just keep beating him down and he keeps coming back up against it until it kills him. theres no acknowledgement of the depth of his heroism for his ppl, all anyone remembers is his mental illness. and then in lotr theres like no sense that any of it mattered, erebor has no place in lotr its not even mentioned - literally the ONLY influence was frodo being saved by having the mithril from thorin. idk like i get it tolkien wrote the hobbit before he was planning lotr at all, and later he just edited what he had to of the hobbit to make it fit into the events of lotr, but it still like doesnt quite work. lotr successfully establishes a beginning a rising conflict and a resolution but the hobbit’s conflict just kinda peters out and doesnt get its own resolution, it doesnt get resolved until the end of lotr.
so for like a lot of reasons its so unsatisfying and thats probably why the hobbit has more “Everybody Lives / Nobody Dies AU” fics on ao3 than any other fandom lmao

💕Hello! If it's all right was could I ask for a matchup? I'm a straight gal, 5'2" tall gal with pale skin and a thin form. I also have long brown hair, blue eyes and glasses.
As for personality, I'm kind, reliable and hardworking, though a little awkward in large social groups. I enjoy joking around and prefer looking at the bright side of things. My mbti is infj (and ennegram 9w1). I prefer my friends to be considerate and open-minded, someone who doesn't judge anyone by their first impression. I make a lot of bad jokes, so they need to have a sense of humour as well, or at least tolerance for mine😅
My biggest hobby is writing, which I think about almost around the clock. Fantasy and horror are my favourite genres to write, and for character inspiration I often do people-watching. I also sing, mostly in a choir, and go out for hikes in the nature because I love the fresh air and beautiful sceneries. My worst fear is letting people dear to me down and not being there for them in their time of need. I try my best to check up on them but sometimes I wonder if I'm doing enough . . .
My motto would be "If you're going to do it, make sure you don't have regrets later." as I strongly dislike leaving what I start unfinished. It makes me anxious.
My love languages are quality time, acts of service and words of affirmation. I'd like my s/o to know that I overthink often, that my silence doesn't mean I'm angry on uninterested but that I'm stuck in my own thoughts. A deal-breaker is definitely narcissism. Confidence is great but I don't like anyone who thinks the world envolves around them.
Thank you for taking time to read this! I hope it was all righ. Have a great day😊
——————————————————————————
thanks for the request ! i hope you enjoy :-)
- this was an incredibly easy choice for me; it just makes all around perfect sense-- I match you with kuroo tetsurou
- you need someone to keep you moving in the right direction because you burden yourself with way too much shit that shouldn’t even be your responsibility
- he helps you to identify what you really want in life and makes you pick n choose a couple of goals to focus on at once rather than doing everything and anything (something tells me you have a hard time prioritizing and saying no to people)
- you help him stop n smell the roses every once in a while because that man doesn’t know when to take a break
- you both share this incredible attention to detail and you both highly value and love getting to know other people
- he’s the one who booked you your first appointment with a publishing house once you finished your first novel and he used his death glare to scare the poor publisher into giving you a higher percentage of royalties on each sale
- SCRABBLE. y’all play a highly competitive game of scrabble every friday night and you always win. this typically culminates in kuroo throwing a tantrum and tickling you mercilessly until you agree it was “practically a tie” (nevermind the fact that you literally won twice the points he did)
- you love fantasy, kuroo loves sci-fi so your conversations are constantly peppered with ridiculous rants and arguments (e.g. “who would win in a fight, a dragon or a tie fighter?” “definitely a dragon babe, i mean it has fire and--” “okay but what if the tie fighter was piloted by a jedi?”)
- physical touch may not be one of your love languages but it sure is one of his-- he’s constantly got his chin resting on your head, or he’s slipping his hand around yours, or putting it on your lower back-- he also really loves giving you these crazy bear hugs (like picking you up and swinging you around type shit) because he likes to feel all big n protective
- I mean the man is literally almost a foot taller than you so can you blame him?
- you guys have literally the worst inside jokes that no one else understands but they send you into hysterics each times until you’re both crying with laughter (lots of terrible puns, yo mama and knock knock jokes that don’t even make sense)
- like once y’all were on a trip to rome and caught a cab to your hotel from the airport but then it took a wrong turn and it ended up that it actually wasn’t a cab and you had just climbed into the back of some little old italian man’s car
- so now whenever y’all are driving somewhere and accidentally go the wrong direction one of you says “mama mia!” in a terrible italian accent and you start screaming with laughter ITS LITERALLY SO OBNOXIOUS LMAOOO
- because you’re both so intuitive that the relationship is like being two halves of a whole-- you can instantly tell when the other is even the slightest bit down and adjust your behavior accordingly
- AND y’all remember the most random shit about each other
- like he once absentmindedly mentioned he loved this particular brand of orange juice and then you started buying only that brand to stock the fridge and he absolutely loves you for it
- and on your first date when you went hiking you pointed out a clump of flowers on the side of the path you thought were pretty so on the way back he secretly picked one and dried it in the pages of a heavy dictionary and got it framed for your birthday
- honestly it’s just little considerate things like this that make the whole relationship
- he always makes sure to involve you in group conversations because he knows it’s your tendency to be shy and hang back
- good conversation is a big deal for you guys but so is quiet time-- you frequently cook dinner together without exchanging a single word, just kinda doing your own thing (like you’ll chop the salad and he’ll make the pasta) and listening to your playlist
- speaking of music, you used to refuse to sing for him until one day he heard you singing in the shower so he crept right up next to the door and recorded it on his phone, and then when you opened the door he shrieked “AHA! CAUGHT YOU!” which nearly scared the shit outta you and made you drop your towel
- but, ya know, you don’t even need to be self-conscious about your singing around this man because he doesn’t have a musical bone in his body and will think that every single note coming out of your mouth sounds like an angel chorus
- overall you guys are that couple that is just so clearly in tune with each other, you know each other like you know yourselves and it’s such a delight to see (hanging out with you is a third wheel’s nightmare tho)
your song: first date by blink-182 (he loves punk pop and you think it’s dorky as hell but he’s adorable when he’s playing the imaginary drums and head banging-- he actually got you to accompany him on the air guitar eventually and it’s lit asf) plus the song perfectly captures the easy, eager way you guys love each other
your favorite movie to watch together: the fellowship of the ring. he wasn’t really into the idea at first (he wanted to watch terminator) but now he’s as big a tolkien fanatic as there is. once you brought him to one of those fantasy renaissance fairs and y’all had the time of your lives.
your relationship in one quote: “In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours. / In all the world, there is no love for you like mine.” - maya angelou

Also actual Tolkien: hey I'm going to- *ahem* -BORROW. A couple of things. Here and there. From the Norse works I read. Maybe nobody will notice.
every time I see the words “Tolkien ripoff” in reference to fantasy I laugh, because while there’s a lot of Tolkien ripoff in worldbuilding it almost never crops up in plot or theme or characterization
like
where are my stories about the decay of the world from the glory of days gone by?
where’s the motif of limb loss?
where’s the longing for the return of something worth following?
where are the bloodthirsty oaths that tear sanity to shreds?
where are the evil spirits who try and destroy the gods with steampunk V-1 buzz bombs (looking at you, The Lost Road)?
where’s my continent-wide dialectical shift ending in massive arguments over the proper pronunciation of a name? where’s my family drama centered around sparkly rocks? where are my dragons the size of mountain ranges?
#sorry but i had to throw a little bit of shade on that#Tolkien#Lord of the Rings#The Hobbit#Middle Earth#For real tho#don't get me wrong i do love Tolkien's work#but anyone who wants to point at newer fantasy and call it a Tolkien ripoff#needs to remember he did some ripping off of his own

i remind you of sunshine??? WRONG bc that's YOU, angel!! and yay!! ur so lucky 🥺 it's getting to be winter for me so i won't be getting to see much sun for a while :( tho on my run today i got to see a very pink/purple sunset and it was very pretty and happy 🥰 and i had a bit of a break from school this week so i got to enjoy it more bc no homework!! altho.. still had to work on uni apps :// how is everything with you?
++ for the red ask game!! can i ask you 🎒,🚗,📕,🉐, and 🇨🇳? (ik it's a lot i'm sorry 😔 & if u feel uncomfy answering any of them, obv don't answer!!)
anyways! i hope you are staying hydrated and well rested <333 SENDING YOU ALL OF THE LOVE 🥺 -age twin anon (is it ok if i keep signing off my asks like this?? i hope i'm not annoying you 🥺 you're just very sweet and lovely and i like talking to you 💛)
first of all, of course!! u can definitely use age twin anon and no!! ur not annoying me at all, you’re so so sweet and enjoyable to hear from and i think u are a whole cutie and no i will not accept anything else!!
im so proud of u!! for going on a run!! because like i never do that even tho i really want to haha <3 and im so happy that u got to see a lovely sunset because those are superb like paint brushed over the sky! and no homework? lucky the school year ends for me next thursday but i have so much work to do so i can be ready for year twelve and of course, uni applications due by march! im still trying to decide where i wanna go to uni!!
and omg yes!! i’ll answer <3
🎒 what’s your favourite school subject? i am a history enthusiast to the very core! i love ancient history and my ideal day is prob spent as a museum <3 but i dont do history at school because my school only offers modern history and its just white men in the 1950s :/ out of the subjects i do? i love human biology!
🚗 can you drive? do you want to? i’ve got the basics (and im a pro at mario kart!) but i wish i was more confident on the road, i’m very tense in any situation like that
📕 what’s your favourite book? i am a sucker for high fantasy and i am a tolkien nerd! my favourite book is called the silmarillion and its set around five thousand years before the lord of the rings! its like a prequel and its so well written but also its so frustrating.
tolkien has an amazing way with words that makes you feel this surging longing for ancient kings and thrones and the beauties and the wonders of the world! and for the simple things like the comfort of true friendship or the aroma of baking bread and gardening!! but at the same time, that tolkien aes is found in the lord of the rings.
meanwhile, the silmarillion is just blood fire death betrayal sibling rivalry a healthy sprinkle of torture and a bit more betrayal shiny jewels betrayal kinslaying and murdering your own kind some more blood angsty morally grey characters and sauron is hot and blonde
but something i love about the silmarillion is how no character is truly ever good, even the righteous heroes have made dubious choices and of couse, the fan favourites are the seven brothers and princes called the feanorians (because they’re the sons of feanor) who are the definition of morally grey.
and its so sad because the silmarillion is ultimately a tragedy. you’re not left happy at the end of the book because middle earth has been forever ruined in a concept called arda marred and the damage hewn into both the earth and its people will never be forgotten, entire continents have sunk and the gods have gone to war and so many have been killed. so yes that’s my favourite!
🉐 do you speak another language? my native language is urdu which i can understand very well (so i can hear when my parents are gossiping, especially about me) but i can’t speak it because i’ve never really practiced! i can read and speak a little bit of greek! and i can read arabic and i understand basic german!
🇨🇳 what’s your ethnicity? i’m desi!! im pakistani actually <3
ask me questions
#( omg i talked so much about the silm )#( but uhh im sorry!! i just love it!!!! )#( my eng teachers are always like zaynab are u doing tolkien again )#age twin anon#answered#cuties#personal

Altho I headcannon that short-haired elves exist in Arda, I was expecting some lore or other explanation behind it. Exiled, maybe? Or they've done something so horrible that they have to cut it so that they loose the ethereal grace that elves with long hair have. I could have gotten behind something like that.
However, for the case of the show, I think it's due to the lack of budget :( as far as I know, wigs made out of human hair are very expensive and the longer the length, the higher the price (please do correct me if I'm wrong, tho).
Side note:
There has been the same issue with the production of House of the Dragon on HBO. The Targaryens have dry-ass hair because they used synthetic wigs instead of human hair.
There was only an improvement (in my opinion) come episode 3 where the wig that Matt Smith used looked a bit better and ✨hydrated✨ (with the blood and grime of the battlefield lol)
Anyways, I am disappointed with how the series turned out, because LotR & Tolkien's world deserve lots of love and live action adaptations. I think the production should have done their best to purchase the right to the Silmarilion so they have access to the lore; they should have ironed out a few kinks in their story-writing; and Amazon should have prepared a budget to match what P.J. and his production team did with the LotR Trilogy (because let's be honest, they set the bar so high despite being released in the early 2000s).
However, since the LotR fandom doesn't get the same amount of adaptations as the other big fandoms do (like Marvel; Star Wars; etc.), I'm still going to watch RoP until the end and take what I can lol.
TLDR: I'm disappointed with Rings of Power. They could have done better with a bigger budget and more time. However, I will take what I can.
---
EDIT: As of Sept. 13, 2022 11:56pm I just learned that the show has a bigger budget compared to Jackson's trilogy and honestly, I don't think budget is the problem anymore 👀
I really don't like the short-haired elves in the Rings of power. They just don't feel very elvish or tolkien. They remind me of pictures from behind the scenes of the Hobbit where the elves are trying on their costumes or are practicing for a scene. They feel unfinised. Like they all forgot to put on their wigs.
