I love that you have to be crazy to be a real Christian, not some cultural Christian, or ethnic Christian, obligatorily Christian. But to truly be Christian, you have to be kinda wacky, you can’t seek the approval of the atheist or the secular man, you have to be a religious extremist.
It’s scary to stand in Noah’s Ark, to be amongst a bunch of other nutty animals, to look out the deck and behold the world in the midst of the storm, and to trust that the ship is cradled in God’s hands and Christ is the Captain. The waves batter against the hull and the winds whistle through the windows, but within the Church is a holy Mystery, a paschal joy. Outside is a tempest unending but within our souls and hearts is a peace only God can give!
Peace I leave with you! My peace I give to you! I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not let it be afraid.

I think if there was a patron saint of self destruction they would have an ouroborus as a halo
yes but also a crumbling arch collapsing in on itself and a dying star imploding and a hand circled around a throat

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wen ning#wei wuxian#Ignore how Wen Ning's hair looks here because I messed it up. Let's pretend he just sported a different hair style for a brief moment.#I am not exactly great at consistency but I am trying very hard to work on that (immediately messes up again).#Absolutely *love* how Wen Ning clearly remembers and admires WWX...who does *not* recognize him.#This is the best day for Wen Ning and it means *nothing* to WWX. A painful one-sided crush made worse.#It is bittersweet to realize that we care about someone more than they care about us. Sometime we pour love into a relationship-#-with someone who just can't reciprocate. It isn't always a conscious things either. Some people just aren't aware we care.#And painfully - so painfully - You can't make them aware. No act of kindness or gift or self sacrifice will make someone care about you.#You can martyr yourself for someone and they will continue on unchanged.#I think a lot about the parallels between WN and LWJ. Not foils - just reflections. A theme repeated.#People who give so much of themselves to someone who doesn't have the capacity to give any part of themself away.#I will die on the hill of 'Wen Ning would be the love triangle romance if that trope wasn't being avoided'.#And to be honest - thank the stars above that is the case. I do not know any good love triangles in media.#We are skipping some of the sad Jiang Cheng content because I really want to finish season 2 before May.#Sorry JC emo moment lovers...I'll deliver another time.

like i am being so unironic when i say that ace's death is THE number one most devastating death in anime Ever Of All Time. everything about it is so unspeakably tragic. none of marineford HAD to happen and yet it was the only way it COULD happen. even before the asl flashback the writing is on the wall for us that the only thing ace would have done is what he did. the silly little cover story about him around skypiea gives us the detail that he has a rage button for people dissing whitebeard. the fact that he takes time out of his manhunt for blackbeard to linger for a bit in alabasta in the hopes that he'll get to reunite with luffy speaks volumes to how important luffy is to him. like i don't think that's talked about enough: ace puts this whole mission that he committed himself to--independently, against advice from his captainfather--ON HOLD to MAYBE catch up with his baby brother. like of course. of course he would turn back when akainu calls whitebeard a loser. of course he would put himself between akainu and luffy. and everything we see of him afterward will never let you forget it. half the time he shows up in flashbacks as an adult he's gushing about luffy to the point that whoever he's talking to teases him about it. he wears his love for whitebeard in huge, unmissable fashion on his back, and almost never covers it up. it's so eerily reminiscent of how law makes himself a monument to corazon that i can't help but wonder if it's intentional. all the signs are there. and it's all made worse by the fact that i don't think akainu KNEW immediately that it'd go down like that. he's confused when ace turns back to him, but he's shrewd enough to press the advantage, shrewd enough to target the weaker link so that one of the brothers dies no matter what happens. it adds this horrible futility to the whole thing that's just wrenching. and then to capstone it with 'thank you for loving me' like. agh. he dies smiling. what the actual fuck.

Ok wait I’m not done with this. Gender in Malevolent is driving me insane.
The way that women in the narrative are so absent, that the hole is so huge you can’t help but stare into it. And I do think a lot of the gender stuff is unintentional, it’s just that the way it’s unfolding fascinates me….
I actually stopped watching the show for a full year after episode 31…. The way Arthur talked about Bella’s death upset me in a way the other visceral horror didn’t. He didn’t resent Bella, he didn’t really…. Feel anything super deep about her. He got stuck with her, she was better than him, she was an equal to him but her life and death didn’t affect him the way every other loss in his life did. He didn’t want a wife, and in the end that’s all he saw her as….
Kind of insane how he finally shows some sort of emotion for Bella in the name of mutual rebellion, she didn’t like what her dad stood for either. Arthur thought he was making a sacrifice for her and Faroe by marrying her…. But she didn’t want it either. Arthur was honour bound she was actually literally trapped. She made the sacrifice.
Everything about Bella makes me so mad. I hateeee the dead wife trope. I feel like a type of subversion was attempted but idk. When I think of this situation from her perspective it becomes a much scarier horror podcast, lol. We all know Arthur Lester is a mess, his flaws make the show. But for this one. Arty when I get u…
I actually thought Bella was gonna turn out to be a figure like Anna Stanzyck when I first started listening. Idk how to elaborate.

4 year old Ahmad Shabat - an israeli airstrike hit him, his parents & 4 siblings; he survived, they didn't - then they hit him & his father's relatives; he survived, they didn't - then they hit him & his uncle; he survived, his uncle didn't - both of Ahmed's legs have been amputated because of injuries. He survives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i hope Ahmad gets to live. i hope he has a beautiful and fulfilling life. i hope he finds love and safety and comfort and success. i hope he finds happiness. i hope he heals. i hope he continues to survive. in spite of the violence, in spite of the trauma, in spite of the horror. in spite of the world.

[Video description: Dated black and white video of an interview between a man off-screen who speaks in an upper-crust English accent and a handsome brown man in his thirties seated at a table. He is lean with short curly dark hair, a very sixties moustache, and wearing a casual shirt with an open collar. The camera is zoomed in on him, leaning forward on his elbows, head low and tilted towards the interviewer, brow furrowed, and an intense gaze that flicks down at the table after each question in careful contemplation. He speaks with an Arab accent. The timer of the video recording ticks away at the top left of the frame.
Transcript:
Interviewer: "Why won't your organisation engage in peace talks with the Israelis?"
Ghassan Kanafani: "You don't mean exactly peace talks. You mean capitulation. Surrendering."
Interviewer: "Why not just talk?"
Ghassan: "Talk to whom?"
Interviewer: "Talk to the Israeli leaders."
Ghassan: "That's the kind of conversation between the sword and the neck, you mean."
Interviewer: "Well, if there's no swords or guns in the room you could still talk."
Ghassan: "No. I have never seen any talk between a colonialist case and a national liberation movement."
Interviewer: "But despite this, why not talk?"
Ghassan: "Talk about what?"
Interviewer: "Talk about the possibility of not fighting."
Ghassan: "Not fighting for what?"
Interviewer: "Not fighting at all, no matter what for."
Ghassan: "People usually fight for something, and they stop fighting for something so you can't even tell me speak about what—"
Interviewer: "—Stop fighting—"
Ghassan: "—Talk about stop fighting why?"
Interviewer: "Talk to stop fighting to stop the death and the misery, the destruction, the pain."
Ghassan: "The misery and the pain and the destruction and the death for whom?"
Interviewer: "Of Palestinians, of Israelis, of Arabs."
Ghassan: "Of the Palestinian people who are uprooted, thrown in the camps, living in starvation, killed for twenty years and forbidden to use even the name Palestinian?"
Interviewer: "Better that way than dead though."
Ghassan: "Maybe to you, but to us, it's not. To us, to liberate our country, to have dignity, to have respect, to have our mere human rights is something as essential as life itself."
Ghassan Kanafani is one of the heroes of the Palestinian liberation and celebrated in the canon of modern Arab literature. Forced out of his home with his family during the Nakba in 1948 at the age of ten, the shame of their surrender to Zionists moved him to devote his life to Arab nationalism, Marxist movements and Palestinian liberation through his career as a newspaper editor, journalist, novellist and non-combatant member of the armed resistance group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. He coined the term "resistance literature" for the genre of his writing, that came to be instrumental in shaping the Palestinian national identity and ideology of its resistance. In 1972, he and his 17 year old niece were murdered in a car bomb by Mossad.
His obituary read:
"He was a commando who never fired a gun, whose weapon was a ball-point pen, and his arena the newspaper pages."
