fun fact about me! I have hyperadrenergic Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (hPOTS). this means I am prone to fainting when I change positions or when I feel a strong surge of emotion, positive or negative. for me, laughing is my worst non-postural trigger.

this is a clip from playing lethal company with friends a few months ago. you can hear the eerie silence of presyncope at 0:19, and the sound at 0:23 is my face hitting the keyboard lmao. I played this for my mother and she literally pissed herself laughing and DEMANDED I show every single person I know (including my doctors, who thought it was funny to see and surprisingly helpful, especially for being audio only).

I'm chess you should harass the Queen and put the King in check every chance you get unless you are working on a major objective.

Check disrupts your opponent. Queen hunts. Fuck, just a Castle early enough in the game. They are all too valuable on the Chess Piece Point System. Plus you just want to reserve your most powerful pieces for later and let the Little Pieces fight it out a while.

They must respond to it no matter how easy the escape.

It breaks their concentration to respond.

And now they have less time to plan. And it throws them off their game because they lost a move while I could continue my game. So now all the pieces and moves your opponent had visualized and planned out are all fucked up and don't sync up. And they don't have time to think of how to continue against this unexpected board. Usually players only try go for checkmate. I say set small ball objectives of harassing the King and Queen. No need to capture them. It's like running the ball. Break down their concentration and their plans by introducing new unexpected game situations and board setups. Keep them pissed off or worried or just slightly anxious. Or just plain frustrated and fucking done with this asshole's bullshit and I want to just quit and then they get all down and grouchy. All of that helps to just keep the opponent unsettled and pissed off and thinking about you personally instead of the game at hand. And all of that makes your opponent unimaginative. More importantly, it takes a long time to get down into that deep level thinking and if that gets disturbed you have to start all over and find your train of thought and remember all the side ideas and such.

If you harass your opponent and talk a little trash or make some snide remarks, you can play your game while your opponent responds to your game while reconfiguring his and pissed off and disgruntled and feeling off and unsettled and annoyed and maybe secretly wanting it all to be over because you aren't playing right.

Keep doing that while you pick apart the opponents team. Don't forget to pick off the pawns. They really complicate things and people undervalue them for the no go spaces they create. Each pawn occupies 3 squares, not 1 and are landmines to the unwary because they are easy to ignore because they rarely pose a threat and can be excluded from most of our plannings. And then they just bloop! out of our consciousness and become fucking invisible. Nobody values the pawns. They are like the Brown service workers of chess.

But just like the Brown service workers of today could at any time just kill you. Just as dead and found in a hotel room. Unsolved murder. No evidence to go on. If they don't like your attitude. Or you get abusive. Or just don't tip well enough. Or just to terrorize the rich.

Just like Brown service workers can slay billionaires at will, Pawns are dangerous little fuckers which kill Queens and even Kings must respect their spaces and often must make several extra moves to go around their kill zones in order to escape your Queen on the hunt.

And in close games pawns can change the whole game. My 8yo nephew almost got his Queen back to then get my castles to free up the king to escape and then take turns between attacking my pieces and my exposed king till his other two pawns could make queen. He almost beat me after losing pretty hard right there at the end.

He started brilliantly. But I kept him off balance and he kept escaping and picking me off. But then later in the game I was able to take out his queen and a few other pieces because I saw his king was unguarded and went after him with a knight.

And even though I had 2 castles and a knight and a brace of pawns I'd reserved. And all that little stinker had was a few pawns left, but he'd managed to figle a blocker for his pawnb so that as I killed his first Queen his second Pawn could become a Queen and go save her man while the other Pawns made their way down. I saw it coming but knew I had him in 2 moves and that he would be just a move too late for Uncle Yours Truly to checkmate his smug little ass.
