Query about a book in the SP novel series
@skulduggerypleasant @skulduggerydaily @skulduggeryatitsbest-blog
Hi fans - I have got a copy of the Grimoire. But I might be a bit behind on recent novels (have read the first 13 or 14 books + the Tanith Low one). What novels in the series should I definitely read before reading the Grimoire?
[Omit any spoilers please! <3 ]

Hi, hope your day's going well! I didn't realize you'd read Skulduggery Pleasant! Those books were my absolute favorite growing up, they're a major inspiration for why I became a writer! I'm so glad my favorite artist in the Hazbin fandom also loves my favorite book series!!
Oh BABY it’s so nice to revisit them after all these years!😊💕
They are absolutely the reason I like age-gap friendships and mentors. 👏
Magical Irish disaster duo, I challenge them to go to therapy.

Warm up doodle turned wholesome lineart. How could Skulduggery resist the masculine urge to pick up a small pet and turn them into a shotgun? Valkyrie never manages to pry the kitten away however, her partner bravely bounds away with his firearm and she has to give chase. Many giggles ensue.
(Beretta is just a firearm brand that has a bunch of guns named after felines, I thought it could be punny. It’ll definitely be my cats name, if I ever get one)

@maidofdarkness23 ‘s wing au won’t leave my head. Turns out sanguine has bat wings?? Hello???? Gave him lil teeth as a quirk of having them wings
bought some new brushes recently and wanted to try them out whilst I’m doing this sad comic :D
I don’t know what bat specifically he is, but a common bat in Texas is the ‘Mexican free-tailed bat’ so I used that as a reference

Nefarian during the Truce headcanons
Just remembered this evil bastard was basically on parole and left alone for 80ish years and I have thoughts.
Most of his allies are dead or fled Ireland and it wasn't like he could torture anyone anymore, so he started looking into other, more legal forms of entertainment.
Alcoholism was his solution for the first few years to deal with the boredom.
But he woke up one day to a broken sofa, a black eye and no memory of the previous evening and realised he needed hobbies.
Of course he had his experiments, which he spend an unholy amount of time on.
He actually found the cure for meningitis in the 60s but he never bothered to tell anyone.
He actually wrote quite a few scientific papers, under a pseudonym of course since no mage would trust anything written by him otherwise.
Once soap operas became a thing he was obsessed with them to an unhealthy degree.
Same with reality TV, he just loves drama and it wasn't like there was much going on in his life.
He got super into cooking throughout the whole truce, because he let go of most of his staff, so he had to learn to make himself meals.
He got surprisingly good, he even had his own cookbook for his own recipes.
In the late 80s he briefly considered adopting a child, just to cure his boredom and to say he had done it.
That thought didn't last long though once he remembered how loud children were, not like anyone would let him near a child anyways.
He did get a cat though, he was actually decent looking after it and it lived a surprisingly long and healthy life.
He developed an intense fear of birds when he was attacked by a seagull while he was out eating a bagel. He has never told anyone but still hadn't gotten over it.

Ive been thinking about Omen Darkly again.
And how, even though the story is about Valkyrie and Skulduggery, his storyline just feels so raw.
Valkyrie has everything. She has all the power and all the trauma of being a god. She has an overpowered sorcerer as a best friend. She has a family that loves her, a sister she would do everything for, a girlfriend, a dog. Yes, she suffered for it. But she still had a support system and friends. And she turned out to be kind of a lovable asshole that I think I would like a lot less if I met her. Shes very selfish. And shes allowed to be selfish because shes powerful. Im not saying shes only selfish and that is her defining character trait. But y'all know what I mean.
Omen though. Omen has nothing. Omen is a literal punching bag. Omen has no power and still all of the trauma. He has no family, he has lost his brother (His beloved, wonderful brother that deserves only the best) in a horrendous twist of fate. He had to grow up so quick. And then he had to grow up again and become a whole different person with all that responsibility. He is exploited, used and thrown away at every goshdarn turn.
But Omen? Omen is kind. Omen is good. Omen prevails in a world that spits in his face over and over and over again. Omen Darkly faces unbelievable odds and falls down so many times and yet he always stands up. Not because of some divine power or some belief that he is better, blessed by birth, blessed by blood. Because he has to. Because he loves the people around him. Because he wants to be seen. And Omen friggin Darkly is seen by so many and liked by so many and he doesnt even know. He finds a place in which people look up to him and he has to leave them all behind and go back into the darkness. And yet, he still continues on.
Omen Darkly is just... Its just a good fucking character in a world filled with shitty selfish world-ending-power sorcerers. And I like that. I like that quite a bit.
(If anything happens to him in AMFOM I will kill Derek Landy with my kindness).

You know what actually? I'm not done just yet. After this one we will return to our scheduled Larrikin/Anton programming
[Image ID: A digital color-coded sketch of Tesseract from Skulduggery Pleasant, drawn as a muscular if not very tall man with a gas mask, holding a bouquet of roses out at an arms length. He's wearing a turtleneck, a thick jacket and trousers. His gas mask is drawn with cartoonish blush lines. He's drawn with magenta lines. Anton Shudder, drawn as a slightly more lean but still very muscular man, who is slightly taller. He has both of his hand up by his chest, looking surprised with blush lines. He's wearing a long coat, a button up shirt and trousers, and is drawn with blue lines. / End ID]
