There are some edits I want to make to the line art but I love how it's going and am excited for what comes next! There's gonna be flowy fabric, blinky pip boys, glinty things... the works!

YOUR QUILTS ARE SO COOL?? i am in awe tbh i have just started learning to quilt myself and im so curious like did you design some of the quilt tops yourself? please post more photos of them!! the visual harmony is just so so cool i love the one with floating hearts especially :O
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I never expected people to react so positively to my quilts!
From what i posted there were three scrap quilts, one proper quilt (like i planned it out and bought fabric just for that quilt), and three "crazy quilts" which were quilts i made mostly with random blocks i had tried out for the last few months with any scrap fabric i had lying around. Some of the blocks were engineered by me but most came from books and the internet.
When it comes to visual harmony the only thing i can say that i try to do when making these quilts is that i try not to put the same color too close to another if itself, and i try not to put too many darks or lights too close to each other so that the eye doesn't pull to any one area too much. Or you COULD put them together if you want the viewer to look at a certain place on the quilt. (When i make a crazy quilt i like to ask people where they look first when i show it to them). I have an art background so basically these are concepts of Color Theory and Contrast in layout that you could look into!
Sometimes if i have only a few finished blocks on a crazy quilt i'll also try and keep them separate from each other because its easy for something to get lost in the visual noise of the other tiny colorful pieces of scrap sometimes.

Black Whale, 12.5x12"
I tried quilting for the first time! It was super fun and I learned a lot. It's nowhere near perfect but I'm really proud of it!

I began quilting in the 1990s. I have handquilted about 60 sci-fi quilts. It has been many years of trial and error. I was never very good at following quilting patterns. My favorite pattern is the disappearing nine patch. I use it a lot in my quilts. My blocks were never perfect. In fact , I’m most certain every quilt I have made has a mistake or two. There is nothing wrong with making mistakes, I look at the mistake as adding character and artistic deviations to my quilts. :) A quilt doesn’t have to be a complicated design . My first quilt was an appliqué Star Trek baby quilt. It was simple by quilting standards. I worked so hard on it. It took months to finish but I was incredibly proud. As I was learning to quilt, I secretly hoped to make something fancy and worthy of an art show one day. FYI, A little more than 30 years later, I have never entered any of my quilts into an art show. I quilt for me. I quilt to give one of a kind quilts to friends and family…and the occasional acquaintance on the internet. Maybe one day, one of my quilts will make it to outer space. How glorious would that be? Peace to you and yours.

So I was going through papaganda 3 photos, and found this from a photoshoot in Swedish rock magazine, supposedly of Papa in his house.
Tumblr media
There is so much to unpack here. PLEASE tell me this is his room. I would absolutely love that.
Does he dress the doll in different outfits every day? Did he buy it little sunglasses to match him?
This is such Italian grandmother attire and I just know he has grandma hobbies. He is so ridiculously silly I love him

Quilter's Dilemma
A phenomenon I made up where you have a talent that takes so much time to produce something, that you can't sell it anymore. There's a market for handmade quilts, obviously, they're beautiful and warm and wonderful, but no one would be willing to pay the amount of money that is required to properly compensate the artist.
I don't quilt, but the raw materials to make a couple of pairs of mittens is $70 for some nice wool. But the hours required to make them is roughly two seasons of Criminal Minds, and some Doctor Who episodes with my family. Those are 45 minute episodes. Minimum wage in my state is around $11.
No one is willing to pay several hundred dollars for a couple of pairs of mittens, no matter how warm and detailed they are. Especially if I'm not a master knitter, which I'm not, and they're bound to have mistakes in them.
So we loop back around to giving them as gifts, and instead ask nothing in return.
If someone gives you something they handmade this Christmas, cherish it.

I finished my second quilt! It's for my grandma :)
Tumblr media
Like the first quilt I made, I just used charm packs - bundles of pre-cut fabric squares with patterns that go well together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used two charm packs (5" squares, not 10") from Fat Quarter Shop. Would recommend! Not expensive, lots of pretty packs, and fast shipping. The light blue and light maroon border and back are just whatever Joann printed cottons, and the binding is plain black cotton.
Using charm packs definitely made this project pretty easy. Just arrange the squares in a pretty pattern and sew them together (well, there are smart ways of doing that, and owning an iron is highly recommended, but whatever). I hand-sewed the binding this time. It was actually way easier and faster than I thought it would be.

Happy Fan Joy July, Oma!!!
Tumblr media
Oma, thank you so so much for making Fan Joy July and sharing it with us! Our fandom, our artists, writers, readers, etc have loved seeing or taking part in this crazy challenge.
This is our gift to thank you- from artists all around who were affected by, or got gifts from, or took part in Fan Joy July. We all love you so much- so we made letters/art for this (Zelda themed!). Many said that they had already wanted to make/write you something, and this gave an opportunity.
One of the things I've loved about this month is how community/interaction centered you made it. The challenge was for yourself to make art each day (you absolute maniac /affectionate)- but then others joined. This July we saw or made art or fics with recommendations. Every day you made art for a writer with a scene from one of their fics, and inspired others to do the same, and writers even wrote every day for an artist based off an art piece they made! This led to a month of gift giving- everyone interacting and getting love for creating.
You truly led to a month of Joy for a lot of loz/lu fans- making the name "Fan Joy July" quite accurate
Thank you, Oma
Thank you for the gifts you gave all of us and the way you inspire others
Additional ramblings and art credits below the cut :P
I'm so grateful to all my artists who stepped up so we could do this when I asked- almost 36 hours and 19 artists. The art is like patchwork, with all these different styles, both traditional and digital put together. But that's exactly what happened- we all got drawn together, just like the other month-long challenges. It's so cool how art always connects people.
The artists who participated are @zolanort @la-sera @nancyheart11 @galenfeadraws @shade-pup-cub @arecaceae175 @isasan347 @ghosthoard @smilesrobotlover @unexpectedstormy @skyloftian-nutcase @knight-of-aether @uniquevoidflowers @jinxedruby @windwakingwhale @skyward-floored @xaeorian @blarefordaglare and me Thank you to all of you- You are all so cool and I'm glad! If I accidentally missed tagging or listing someone please let me know I'm so scared of if that happened djskdjdkd
There are letters based off of the colours/theme of each of the Lu boys- it's mainly Zelda and linkeduniverse themed... but we couldn't not have frogs for Oma! I did a frog, his name is Froggy and I'm very proud.
Here's a picture with a list of who did what-
Tumblr media
Normally I would apologise for my handwriting, but you guys would just tell me it looks good anyways and honestly it does look good. :D Sorry for the ink splotches tho, and I hope you can read it.
We did this for you, Oma, because... well you are awesome /gen. You gave us the opportunity for a great month and we wanted to say thank you for all the joy you brought us so... thank you :)
Art :D
As for everyone who said they wanted to talk to Oma or other Fan Joy July artists who they loved sharing this month with... feel free to tag and share in the reblogs. Share the joy I guess- there's enough to go around :D
Happy Fan Joy July, Oma :))
