Percy had a crush on Luke in TLT, in this essay I will-

No this is not a joke.

I am aware the Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes has alluded to Percy being heterosexual but I find that not being able to describe attractive men is not enough to be straight.

However, looking at the subtext between Luke and Percy's relationship in TLT, it shows clear signs of Percy basically hero worshipping the guy, in the same way Nico did with Percy. Main thing here is, Nico canonically had a crush on Percy that ran so deep that Cupid, the fucking god of love, literally described Percy as the person Nico cared for the most.

Now this does not instantly mean that Percy must have had a crush on Luke the same way but here is my evidence.

Percy (at that point) was starved of common decency from anyone but his mother

Look at the character relations in TLT.

From Book 1, other than his mother, Percy relations all had incredibly negative undertones.

Annabeth outright admitted to only joining him on the quest to get out of camp. They may have made up but that immediately put me off their entire relationship initially. I was a seriously anti-percabeth dude until Titan's Curse and this was one of the reasons.

Grover may have genuinely been Percy's friend but from the start, Percy found out that the only reason Grover was there was because of a job and not because they were friends. That eventually changed but at the beginning, it had to have been rocky.

Next up we have Chiron. Now while it was somewhat okay, albeit with manipulative undertones and an overall bluntness from Chiron, this was a purely teacher-student relationship.

Now we'll look at Percy in general. Percy was incredibly starved of affection from anyone but his mother. Coupled with an abusive stepfather, any act of kindness is amplified for him.

This is literally confirmed when Luke steals him toiletries. He feels that's the nicest thing anyone had done for him at that point.

Not only that, Luke personally taught Percy when everyone else was ignoring him like he was the plague.

Luke was literally Percy's only real friend for the majority of TLT. He literally recounted his entire quest to him during the Iris Message scene, a privilege he didn't even give to his mother. Plus, he was confirmed to blush around Luke almost as much as Annabeth and we all know how Annabeth used to think of Luke: 'Lose a love worse than death'

I personally think that there was no real reason for him to react so badly to Luke's betrayal other than this.

Okay, when I researched this by constantly rereading every Lukercy and Luke interaction or mention in TLT, I also came across another revelation.

This was one of the reasons why Percy was so determined not to fail Nico during TTC and BotL. He may have not known about Nico's crush on him but he definitely didn't want to be to Nico was Luke was to him.

He loves jewelry too. He has a few layered necklaces on all the time (including his camp one with a trident on it, one that says 'seaweed brain' from annabeth, and a locket with pictures of me and annie inside from me)

bracelets are his favorite though. he's stolen some of my spiked leather cuffs and annabeth's charm bracelet. But he's also got a few from thrifting and gifts from us

he also keeps hair ties on his wrists so he can give one whenever me or annabeth need one (or estelle when her hair grows out)

He loves cheesy pet names, and he's made a few personal ones for me (and for Annie!) But his favorites for me are: ghostie, darling, babe, azzy, and sweetheart

He's got really bad self-esteem though, we do our best to encourage him whenever we can bc he's so amazing he just doesn't see it :(

Annabeth Chase

hers are neat and actually interesting comments about the book while mine look like a wattpad comment section

When I'm not taking care of myself properly she'll use that commanding tone to make me do shit (like eating or drinking water) and I immediately melt

She doesn't hesitate to tease me about it either, usually using words of praise, which makes my blushing ten times worse

Her and Percy make bets to see who can make me blush first and they're wicked competitive about it. She likes to whisper in my ear in public and watch me try not to make a fool out of myself.

When she wants to lead me somewhere she'll hook her finger on my choker/collar and drag me along

We'll sit in bed reading together. She'll be sitting up straight and I'll have my head in her lap usually.

She isn't big on pda like Percy is, but she gives little kisses and touches when people aren't paying that much attention.

Something I think about often is Nico and Percy (and sometimes Annabeth and Thalia when they have time) staying at camp halfblood into their adult years to help Chiron look after and train all the new big three kids because there’s going to be so many of them too much for Chiron to handle he hasn’t had this many demigods in nearly 100 years that man needs help with those children.

I can totally see Percy and Nico (and Thalia when she visits) teaching them how to use their powers and weapon training. I just can’t see Nico and Percy working in mortal jobs it just don’t make sense to me. They will always be dedicating their lives to looking after other demigods especially younger generations. Grover does a lot of scouting for big three kids too he finds most of them and brings them to camp and sometimes teaches them wilderness training classes

(I’m not that big of a fan of Solangelo or Will but those of you that are : I find it fitting that Will being the best medic and only one with healing powers they’ve had in centuries would stick around to run the infirmary too and Solangelo could happen. I’m imagining a very slow burn where they kinda hate each other when they’re teenagers/young adults and have serious beef but well into their middle ages they each have a lot of personal development and slowly grow to not hate each other as much and eventually get together. Very slow burn rivals to lovers)

Maybe even Percy and Nico adopting or fostering or mentoring big three kids that have either unstable or dead mortal parents or get attacked by monsters too often with nowhere else to go and maybe don’t entirely fit in at camp like Nico used to. Those are the kids they keep an extra eye on.

I think Nico also does a bit of traveling too when things are quiet at camp. (Both before and after he gets with Will). He’s like the best most reliable communication between the Greek and Roman camps as well as the Magicians and the Underworld (he’s besties with Anubis and then by extension Walt and Sadie and Carter) (maybe Nico and Carter were together at some point before Will? When they were younger? Nico being Carters bi awakening? Yes. Love this idea.) (maybe he even sees a few people around Camp Jupiter and New Rome too) (at a different time than Carter and Will obvi he’s not a cheater). The underworld will always be a home to Nico and he stays well in contact with his father and other cthonic deities and family.

Percabeth stay together forever. Annabeth does her architect thing working for both camps and Olympus and maybe even the magicians too. She stays in contact with Magnus too but Odin has all of his architecture covered. She’s a second in communications next to Nico. Her biggest project and accomplishment is New Athens. An entire city built just for Greek adult demigods nestled in the foothills next to camp halfblood. Her and Percy and Nico and Will along with a bunch of their friends live out their retirement there in peace.

Percy and Nico become close friends over the years of working together and mentoring a lot of the same demigods. (I think Percicobeth is a possibility that could happen at some point as well) Percy is content with his life going between his home at camp and traveling with Annabeth and Nico and visiting Sally and Paul and who knew Paul turns out to be Poseidon in disguise and Estelle is a demigod. That was a little crazy for him to process at first but he eventually finds it funny and is at peace with it.

They all have their happy endings. They all have careers fitting for them. They all live full and rich lives. They all live happily ever after. Why does that lamp over there look so weird. *starts balling because I know this will never be reality*

Thoughts on Staff of Hermes

This story was overall a fun read but it was not as enjoyable or deep as Diary of Luke Castellan. I wouldn't read it again. I can definitely say I prefer Luke's narration over Percy's now. I love you Percy, but I am seriously wondering if I still prefer you over Harry as a POV main character. Hmm, that is another topic for another day.

There are several things that stood out to me so I will try to organize my thoughts under different sections.

Feelings on Percabeth

So this is the first time I have fully read a canon material on this ship. I came into this reading with a lot of bad faith...but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be honestly. I am by no means a fan let's get that straight and I still dislike the ship but I have a more balanced view now. Maybe my opinion will change as I get into TLO.

Where to start? First of all, BOTH Percy and Annabeth suck here. To my surprise, I found myself siding more with Annabeth (to my horror) in general but against her more in specific sections.

I don't like Annabeth's personality. Her opening dialogue accusing Percy of forgetting something I felt was deliberately vague to make Percy squirm. She could have easily said, "You forgot about our anniversary, didn't you Seaweed brain?" On it's own, it seems like a minor thing but it's a callback to TLT where Annabeth wouldn't give Percy straight answers, making him feel stupider. I also think it's unfair of Annabeth to be all miffed at Percy about the anniversary when it was surrounded by other major events that I feel are way more impactful than a kiss. You know, considering that a war happened! Let's say I got my job offer the same day my dad died and a week later, someone asked me what happened last week. The first thing to come to my mind would be my dad's death. Again, it's nothing major against Annabeth but the small things keep adding up.

I am also not a fan of Percy's constant fear of Annabeth. It comes up numerous times. Percy is willing to throw himself into a possible quest to avoid communicating a simple matter with Annabeth. I bet Ricky was trying to play it as comedic but a boyfriend being more comfortable with his girlfriend as a battle partner is not a good sign. Annabeth comes off as a demanding girlfriend who always takes but never gives.

“Was that amazing?” she demanded. “That was amazing,” I agreed.

Like why this tone? It could be a manifestation of her hubris flaw but it's just rubbing me the wrong way.

“And Percy…feel free to start planning our two-month anniversary.”

Why doesn't Annabeth get off her butt and plan the two-month anniversary?! Who the hell celebrates a two-month anniversary!

Rick could have made this scene so much more wholesome as a continuation of this line which I liked:

“You did forget, Seaweed Brain.” But her smile told me she wasn’t really mad. “Nice save,though. I’m impressed.” “I have my moments.”

By Annabeth saying something like "But next time for our two-month anniversary, my date idea will beat yours Percy. And I won't need a god's help to do so."

This would maybe make Percy laugh and relax, show Annabeth has forgiven him, that she's still competitive and she's willing to treat Percy too. Seriously, ugh!

Next: Percy does not get a pass here either. As much as I love Percy, I wanted to scream at him. Here are my issues:

Annabeth has a right to feel disappointed that Percy broke his promise. I felt for her. Percy was a coward and he should have simply said he would make it up to her. I don't know if Percy made a throw away promise that Annabeth took more seriously than he did or he genuinely forgot. Either way, Percy should have manned up. I will give him leeway because he is scared of her but still.

Not exactly a Percabeth issue per se but Percy has no right to be talking about Luke's feelings about Annabeth. How the hell would he know what Luke was feeling? Even if his last words could be meant as ambiguous, when did Percy see Luke show any romantic inclination towards Annabeth over the years? Get over yourself Percy. Will be following up when I look at TLO...

This is a character peeve, not a shipping peeve but Percy comes off as a lazy idiot. His comment about not watching the news is fair. Not many teens watch the news (I watched the news growing up with my parents but it's not because I was dying to know local events, I just had nothing better to do). I also understand it being easier to have people explain things to you (I feel the same way a lot). BUT! You would think with all the monsters coming after him, Percy would be slightly interested in knowing about their abilities to better protect himself. I have the same issue with Harry Potter. UGH!

I stand with Annabeth in feeling pissed that Percy is dragging her on an impromptu quest. It's ultimately Hermes' fault but Percy partially accepted so that he could use the reward to avoid communicating with her.

However, I will admit that it was cute when Percy hyped up Annabeth's skill and beauty. Also, Percy protecting her from Cacus is very gentlemanly :). Annabeth being so done with the quest and Percy throughout the story was hilarious. Can't blame you, girl. Still don't like you but I understand your pain.

Feelings on Hermes and the PJO gods

I understand now why I keep seeing posts about Hermes being whiny. This dude is not serious and I struggle to take him seriously.

As amusing as it is to see old men beefing with teenage girls (**cough**Snow**cough***cough***Katniss***cough!), it really makes the gods seem like complete jokes. Hermes is a god, an Olympian. He either needs to rise above the matter or put Annabeth in her place and end it (can I see option 2 please?). Hermes needs to get a grip and stop being so pathetic to teenagers. I don't understand why he doesn't follow Apollo's lead and look like a teenager or young adult if he's going to act this way.

Second, I don't understand why Rick makes the gods look so incompetent in their domains. Apollo is bad at poetry. Hades is being beaten in his domain. Zeus is a joke of a king. Ares was beaten by a barely trained preteen. Hermes is supposed to be the god of thieves, yet some low IQ giant steals from him. Shouldn't thieves know how to guard their valuables better??

I just have no awe or respect for most of the PJO gods. Where's the majesty and power? Rick could have made them avatars of the real gods and nothing would change really. Percy is 16, why doesn't he know by now how to greet a god?! Even if he's not an all year round camper, basic courtesy should be common knowledge. Especially with all the gods who want to kill him. What is Percy learning at CHB?!

Now, let me talk about gods and their interaction with the mortal world. I feel the same empathy for mortals the way I do for muggles in Harry Potter. I get the concept of the mist and I can see the benefits of shielding mortals from the craziness of greek myths. But...it impacts mortals worshipping and honouring the gods. Don't the PJO gods want mortals to praise them? Pray to them? It seems stupid to depend only on demigods for their source of power, especially given how bad their parenting is. Or lack of it.

The PJO gods also seem unimpressive to me in other ways. You're telling me that Hermes is basically useless as a messenger without a single symbol of power?

Finally, the attitude towards quests. Similar to Apollo in Singer of Apollo (need to add that to my reading list), Hermes gives Percy this task to save face (where Apollo gave Percy the task because he was busy with 'more important things'. Not sure which one is worse honestly). But it turns out that a more nefarious plot is underfoot. Hermes and Apollo can't be bothered to clean up their own mess even though the ramifications are potentially quite severe. All the while, mortals are put in danger. Hermes' couldn't even be bothered to tell Percy where Cacus' location was. Some friend, you got there Percy. Also, you're telling me that the gods lack the control to search for items without destroying the place?? Gosh, what are we even doing here?

On the topic of quests, why don't the gods give these quests to their own freaking kids! I know Percy is top dog and everyone wants a piece of him...but why didn't Hermes ask one his many kids to help him? Ask a thief to outsmart another thief, you know. It would be cool to see other demigod kids interact with their parents' symbols of power. Apollo kids in the sun chariot and playing his personal lyre. Martha and George talking to Hermes' kids. But Percy is the MC and special so he gets to do everything, sigh.

Oh, one more thing about the gods! They need to stop making monster kids!!!! They truly don't give a damn about their demigod kids or poor innocent mortals. Honestly, keep the mist up. These lowlives don't deserve any worship whatsoever. Glad to be a Christian!

How is Hermes Percy's friend? What are the many times Hermes has helped him other than book 2?

Hermes has such little brother energy with Apollo and Athena! Love it!

It was cool to see the potential power of other demigods be highlighted here. I need to see more powers from the other demigods. Annabeth quite frankly is kind of underwhelming and doesn't have much going on as a daughter of Athena.

What equipment is Annabeth using on Mount Olympus?? It just makes the world feel less magical.

I like that Hermes gives nice rewards. I mean the dude almost tried to get out of paying Percy but the point is that Percy got his payment. At least Hermes was not all self-absorbed like Apollo.

He took the caduceus and patted the heads of his sleepy snakes. “There, there, my friends. You’re home now.” -> This was so cute!

I wish the "best part of your job" response in the George and Martha interview chapter was expanded upon. It would have been nice to hear some thoughts on Luke or the other kids.

Edit: Both Percy and Cacus have the same faux paus of implying that thousand > million. Obviously, this is due to Rick being one of those writers who failed basic math lol. It's certainly not helping with showcasing Percy's intelligence.

That was longer than I expected. I am either going to read Son of Magic or Singer of Apollo next.

couldn't help but think constantly about season 2, like we are getting introduced to new characters (and new cast members 💓💓), but mostly because of annabeth. i've always seen som and botl as annabeth's books, they let you understand her personality, what she wants, what she is.

so there's some of the annabeth's moments that i really exacted/hope to see in the next season cause i know leah would EAT these parts yeah

“we could use your intelligence” “because you have none on your own!”

on princesse adromeda where luke is talking to both annabeth and percy, and he tries to convince annabeth to join him, pushing on something that he knows annabeth is extremely attached to, her intelligence. annabeth tries to stay strong, to don't freak out about how, her long time friend, her brother has turned out. even with this sense of sadness she is always the sassy little queen that we have been introduced in the first book !

i love the scene at circe's. and i can't wait and i do really HOPE to see the reyna/hilla cameo. i guess this scene is important because in some ways we see annabeth give up immortality for percy. and this is just the first time.

the whole backstrory with cyclops and it will be even better if we get some flashbacks

every single memory from her childhood is important to the construction of her character, there wouldn't be annabeth if there wasn't her memories. i guess this part of her story is important to let the reader (and in future the watcher) think about how much bad things annabeth went though since the age of seven. she has been fighting monsters since she was seven.

the sirens scene

okay, this is mostly percabeth BUT i just love how determined annabeth is in that scene, yeah i know that lot of people would consider her actions pretty stupid but be honest with yourself. first of all she was 13, she was a child, second thing, because of that we are getting introduced to her fatal flaw, pride. in that moment annabeth didn't know if she would had another chance to listen to the sirens so she took the opportunity that she had.

“ Three people sat on a picnic blanket in Central Park. A feast was spread out before them. I recognized Annabeth’s dad from photos she’d shown me-an athletic-looking, sandy-haired guy in his forties. He was holding hands with a beautiful woman who looked a lot like Annabeth. She was dressed casually-in blue jeans and a denim shirt and hiking boots-but something about the woman radiated power. I knew that I was looking at the goddess Athena. Next to them sat a young man … Luke.

The whole scene glowed in a warm, buttery light. The three of them were talking and laughing, and when they saw Annabeth, their faces lit up with delight. Annabeth’s mom and dad held out their arms invitingly. Luke grinned and gestured for Annabeth to sit next to him-as if he’d never betrayed her, as if he were still her friend.

Behind the trees of Central Park, a city skyline rose. I caught my breath, because it was Manhattan, but not Manhattan. It had been totally rebuilt from dazzling white marble, bigger and grander than ever-with golden windows and rooftop gardens. It was better than New York. Better than Mount Olympus. ”

this part is just so extremely dear to me. we see what annabeth really wanted. her dad, her mom, her brother and her biggest desire to create building because she wants to be remembered through them. the things that we don't see in this scene are percy and thalia. thalia, she is gone, annabeth would neved see her again so why even think about her as someone who would come back in her life, and percy. percy, that she already consideres as her percy. she knows that she already has him in her life. this scene is so sad and full of meaning we see the cruelest desire that annabeth has. she wants her family back. she wants to be someone one day. and she wants to feel proud of herself.

Okay here we go.

I have just found out recently that it’s canon that Cupid has been watching Nico since he was young. And as usual, it sends many thoughts spiraling.

Assuming Nicole was Christian when he was young, when he saw this winged man, bathed in white and holy divine light, he might as well think he was an angel. He probably would have told Maria or Hades that. “There's an Angel”, to which Hades would have dismissed upon realizing it was actually Cupid.

I don't know about you but it sounds magical in a way that Nico, who is an Angel in name and in a prophecy, is looked after by somewhat a resemblance of said deity. His connection to Cupid started so soon. I would like to think about it as it is a reference to Nico being the same kind of Angel as Cupid is, in the sense that Eros, or Cupid, is God of homosexuality in the Greek myth. It’s confirmed in TSATS that Nico had had a sense of his difference since the early days and felt a little bit left out, which, imo, is as best as any to be a reason for Cupid to put a tab on him. Obviously, I don't know much about Greek mythology so this is probably only me.

Also, Favonius also mentioned that he had always known Nico would return to them. So I take this as that, Nico, for how much he tries to repress or run away from himself, there will surely come a time when he has to be true to what he is. To accept himself for all it has become and to realize that it doesn't make him any less of a human. It goes without saying that Cupid’s intervention was unnecessarily brutal, probably because the Greeks love tragedies, but the purpose remains true, which was to propel an essential step in Nico’s path to self-peace.

(Aphrodite liked Percabeth as the next person and she chose to make their love story ‘more interesting’ with challenges. Love gods are just unhinged, unfathomable like that)

Another thing. I have always found it fascinating how Cupid has taken an unusual interest in Nico, in particular. Nico couldn't be the only closeted person who had come to visit his place in the 30s? I like to think it has something to do with the fact that he was a son of Hades, who loved his wife enough to take up… controversial measures. Love and Death are similar, Cupid has said. Nico loves so much. His love has always run so deep – as reflected in what he did for Percy, the grief he held for Bianca, his affectionate side reserved for Hazel (bc familial love counts too) – that it impressed Cupid on a personal level so he just followed him since.

Oh, as I said on the tags, I guess I will have to double check, it is not something so serious. Just obsessing over something. But alright, let's go, shall we?

Both Helen and Percy were children of major gods. Helen was a daughter of Zeus, while Percy is a son of Poseidon. Their status and parentage didn't save them from being right at the core of the conflict.

Helen was said to have a divine beauty. A beauty similar of divine beings.

Percy was mistaken as God by Hazel because of his aura.

Helen was said to have been "The Most Beautiful Woman" in the world, while Percy was said to have been "The Most Powerfull Demigod of His Generation" or something like that. Forgive me if I am mistaken fandom and canon with this title.

Now, both were technically puppets in the gods hand. Everyone knows how Eris crashed the wedding between Peleus and Thetis and threw the fruit which was inscribed "to the fairest" and Zeus had to choose either to give it to Hera, Aphrodite or Athena.

To not cause turmoil for him, he told Paris, the exiled prince of Troy (ilion), to make the choice and he choose Aphrodite who offered him the love of the most beautiful mortal woman - Helen.

Helen was married to Menelaus, the King of Sparta at the time. And Menelaus went to war because of her, literally the beginning of the Trojan War.

One thing that I kept in mind, is that there was a Prophecy that Paris would soon bring destruction to Troy.

In some interpretations, Helen was willingly with Paris, but in my - personal - interpretation, since Aphrodite had a hand on that, her mind was blurred, so it wasn't actually willingly. This is up to debate, and you can actually do it in the comments sections.

Actually Helen even says that Aphrodite clouded her judgment (i don't remember the source for that, I will have to double check too)

Now making a clear parallel with Percy and Annabeth and The Prophecy of the Seven. (I dont like Percabeth, ok, but I will try my best to remain neutral here)

Percy was in love and in a relationship with Annabeth and both were the "leaders" of Camp Half Blood during the war, you could say that. And Percy was abducted by Hera and his mind was wiped. Helen's feelings towards her stay in Troy are complex, and they differed in each myth. And Percy too, has mixed feelings about New Rome.

Annabeth went in turmoil after him, which ended with her going right after New Rome with the greek. And Octavian was eager to start a war with the them. Just like it happend millenia ago.

One point that makes it even more ironic, is that according to the Aeneid, one of the surviving Trojans - Aeneas - was the legendary founder of Rome. So in my mind, and ik it is incorrect, was basically the beggining of the Trojan War all over again. It just had a very different ending and development.

Percy was taken against his will to another city. Directly linked with Troy, at least in history, while the greeks were looking after him.

What made Hera act was the next great prophecy and Gaia, which could lead to the end of the World.

Again; the parallel with the prophecies and the Goddess' interference.

Helen was also a very talented women, who was cunning and inteligent. We can see Percy share these similarities on how he dealt with the Council in New Rome. Nico strikes me as subconsciously and passively suicidal, for at least most of the books. He consistently takes extremely dangerous and life threatening quests, usually one after another, without any rest or breaks.

I think that’s how he copes with the loss of Bianca and hides from everything else he doesn’t want to think about. He feels weird around Percy? Doesn’t mean anything- it’s just because Percy’s going to die, so he needs to find a way to save him. His dad said he liked his sister better? Doesn’t matter if he’s too busy trying to figure out where his next meal is going to come from. He misses his sister? That’s fine, he ran into another sister, he’ll just take care of her instead. He distracts himself, because the enormity of what he’s been through could destroy him entirely.

That’s why he fell apart in Tower of Nero, in particular- he’d pushed everything into the back burner, but Jason’s death ripped everything back open. He quits eating, he quits sleeping, he’s worse than he’s ever been- because there’s no distraction. He doesn’t have to worry about a safe place to sleep or where his next meal is coming from or find safe water to drink. He’s physically safe so there’s no escape from his own mind. There’s nothing to distract him.

This was why I felt robbed in TSATS. I thought we were going to get an exploration of Nico and his healing process. I thought we were going to get an interesting insight into Will’s character. I thought we were going to see an interesting dynamic in the horror of Tartarus- Nico’s been here before, and while it’s retraumatizing, could there almost be an aspect of familiarity? Because he knows this routine, this song and dance, this “save the world, or a friend, or a stranger, or anyone so I don’t have to face myself” thing he does. What about Will? Would Will be scared, or would Tartarus come as no surprise to him? He saw the horrors of war at 12. He watched his siblings die in front of him, became the head medic and head of his cabin, when he was only a sixth grader. Would Will be as shocked and horrified by Tartarus as you first think, or would it be no surprise to him? Would we see Nico fall back into his old patterns of isolation and how would Will confront that? Were we going to get an insight into how Will’s trauma has affected him? What if they ran into Ahklys? Were they going to return to something close to their BoO dynamic? (I hoped so) Would any character confront Nico about how, while they should rescue Bob, that doesn’t mean he should return to his old patterns?

But no. Tartarus is dumbed down. Bob is rescued way too easily. Solangleo is turned into Perabeth 2.0 but shitty. All of Nico’s trauma is fixed by a couple conversations with Dionysus and not much else. Will has the personality of a cardboard cutout. Percabeth has a cameo that makes no sense. Nico apologizes to Piper and it makes no sense.

The nightmare scenes read like a 3 days in the infirmary fic from Wattpad circa 2018. I literally skipped expanses of the nightmares because they not only dragged, but were unbearably bland and repetitive. Nico listens to Lil Nax X apparently and now knows modern slang (but not really bc RR is a middle aged white guy. Could have been interesting if it was intentionally written like that, but it wasn’t). There’s a weird line about how much “Maria’s” death affected Nico. It was Bianca. Rick, for the love of fucking god, it was Bianca.

He messed up how many days Nico was in the jar for. He included a scene where Nico is given the pomegranate seeds, even though Hazel says in TMOA (or maybe it’s TSoN, I’m not 100% sure) that Nico has shown them to her before and says he always carries them with him in case of an emergency.

The characterization stuff? That can be excused as my opinion. Tartarus losing its horror that it had in THOH? Extremely disappointing, but you can say that it’s a kids book and that I’m just reading too much into it (except I could read both books side by side and compare inaccuracies so don’t feel to comfortable in saying that)

But the timeline errors? What’s the excuse for that? And the majority of the fandom is just willing to overlook that just to… what? Spend money on worse than mediocre books when much more thoughtful and lovely fanfictions exist?

Anyways, tsats was a money grab imo and I hate it.

Part. 2

Percy was walking through Camp Half Blood happy. It was a sunny day. Then, Aphrodite appears to him. But, he didn't know the other demigods couldn't see her.

Aphrodite: Hey, Percy!

Percy: Hi, Aphrodite! What brings you here?

Aphrodite: Oh! I only wanted to see how you were.

Percy: I'm fine, Thanks!

Aphrodite notices Percy holding a box of chocolates and a bouquet of roses. She smiles, already imagining for who they could be.

Aphrodite: Are the chocolates and flowers for a special person?

Percy gets a little embarassed and shy.

Percy: Maybe...

Aphrodite: A girl?

Aphrodite gives a devious smile to Percy, who only gets more nervous.

Percy: Yeah...

Aphrodite: Good! Nothing better to celebrate the valentines' day than with a beautiful girl, right?

Percy: Yeah...

Percy puts his hand behind his hair, totally shy.

Aphrodite: So, who is it?

Percy looks away.

Percy: You don't know her...

Aphrodite gets confused and shocked.

Aphrodite: What?

Percy: Her name is Rachel.

Aphrodite makes a disgusted face.

Aphrodite: The oracle?!

Percy: Yeah...(😅)

Aphrodite: But...what about Annabeth?

Percy: We broke up.

Aphrodite: You what?!...but...you can't!

Percy: Why not? (😕)

Aphrodite: Because you and Annabeth belong together!

Percy: We used to. Now, i like Rachel. After talking with Hera, i noticed how special Rachel was and i didn't value her enough.

Aphrodite: You broke up with Annabeth because of a conversation?!

Percy: It wasn't because of the conversation, but what Hera reminded me of. I'm tired of being used and ridicularized by other people. If i want to have my dream life, i can. I don't want to be a hero.

Aphrodite: But the girl is an oracle!

Percy: And? Look Aphrodite, I don't care if Rachel is an oracle. I would still love her even if she was a monster with three heads. So, if you excuse me, i'm late for my date.

Percy walks away from Aphrodite and she yells at him.

Aphrodite: She can't give you child! She'll only ruin your life! You were meant to be a hero!

Percy continues walking and doesn't answer or turn around to look at Aphrodite.

Aphrodite: You don't know what you are doing, Percy. But, i'll help you. Soon, you'll come back to the arms of the one you really love.

Aphrodite uses her arm to hit Percy with a love spell, but her hand is caught by another one. Aphrodite turns to the side and gets shocked when she sees Zeus holding her hand.

Zeus: That's enough, Aphrodite!

Aphrodite: What are you doing here? The demigods...

Zeus: They can't see us!

Hera appears next to Zeus.

Hera: After talking to Percy, i figured everything out.

Aphrodite: What do you mean?

Hera: It was you who messed with Percy's memories and made him only remember Annabeth.

Aphrodite: I don't know what you mean.

Zeus: Stop lying, Aphrodite! You wanted to keep that boring demigods together. So, you better not test my patience!

Aphrodite winces a little bit and Ares appears.

Ares: Let her go, father. You're hurting her.

Zeus doesn't let her go. Hera puts her hand on Zeus's arm.

Hera: Zeus.

Zeus lets go of Aphrodite's hand. He gets close to her and whispers angry.

Zeus: If i ever see you messing with these demigods again, the consequences won't be good. Do you understand me?

Aphrodite only nods her head scared and the four gods disappear.

Rachel and Percy are having fun on their picnic in the forest, laughing and playing with each other. Rachel runs from Percy and he hugs her from behind making them fall on the ground, with Rachel over him. Both smile at each other and kiss.

Not so far from there, under some trees, there were a woman and a man watching the scene of the couple in front of them. The man has an amused expression while he has his arms crossed.

Ares: Who knew the boy that i fought so many times finally grew up?

Hera: Yeah...who knew? Unfortunately, he wanted to make us his enemies.

Ares: He stil has too much to learn. That guy trusts everyone else very easy. He is still too naive to believe that "the good guys" are his friends while us, "the bad guys", are his enemies.

Hera: I agree. But, we can't change anything. It's his choice. I just hope that one day he finally recognizes his true enemies.

Ares only nods his head and gives a sadistic smile at Percy's direction

Ares: Well...until there, i'm still gonna have my fun with that boy!

Ares gives a devious smile at Percy's direction and disappears.

Hera: I told you Percy that what you needed was right in front of you. I wish you all the happiness in the world with your new wife and kids...ops. I guess i said too much about the future.

Hera whispers to herself while she gives a sweet smile at the couple's direction and disappears too.

Hello! Ok here's an ask for you: i've had this storyline in my head about rrverse next generation, and i'm trying to decide Percabeth's kids' names? Like, on one hand, i want their names to be meaningful, but also i really think Percy and Annabeth would NOT give their kids the same name as their friends who died, because, you know, names have power and all that.

So I was thinking something like little Jay, or Jaycee or some variation, in honor of Jason maybe? (I really want one of the kids to be named after Jason, but let's be real "Jason" is a cursed name, it's definitly not a good idea to name your kid that and Percy and Annabeth would both know it).

I think it'd also be likely if they named on of their kids for Grover maybe? But i personally don't really like the name Grover and idk if it'd be weird if they'd give the name of someone still in their lives? So maybe some variation of it? Maybe as a second name? Idk

Also for a little girl, i thought it'd be nice if they could name a kid after Sally or Thalia, and then i just found out the name Tally exists, soooooo....

Any thoughts on those suggestions? Ideas for other names? How many kids do you think they'd have?

i love to think they'd have two daughters, girl dad percy and girl mom annabeth may actually fix me.

for names, i like to think they went with the sally blofis-jackson method of naming which is using names of mythological beings with happy endings/happy lives. maybe a name of an Amazonian queen or powerful Amazonian in general. other names include Ida, Penelope, Myrene, Tara, Nelisa, Neda, Melissa, Melaina, etc. With the whole concept that names have power, I doubt they'd name their child over any goddess or person with a tragic ending.

if you want names inspired by the characters, there are a lot to choose from! you're absolutely right about them not naming their child jason. instead, there's jamie, jaycee, jay/jaye, jayden, jace, jess, jessy, jonas (annagram like annabeth's name), sonny, mason, even grace, though grace may be tricky due to thalia's disdain for her last name.

i feel it would be very normal and sweet for them to just outright name their daughter sally; if you still want alternatives, a lot of similar names are out there (sal, sammy, and sarah, which is the origin of the name sally). with thalia, i'd recommend a similar name, or even a name of another muse as piper is named after the muse of comedy. with grover, i'd recommend a middle name. i don't think it would be weird at all to name their child after someone they love that is still alive, but i'm arab and have seen a lot of arabs name their children after family, so my opinion may not apply here as i'm not american and don't know american naming styles too well.

now, personally, i don't think they'd name their children after anyone except maybe sally. i think the more likely alternative is making grover a godfather to their firstborn and another close friend (rachel? thalia? frank and hazel?) the godparent(s) of their second born. i think giving a jason-inspired middle name would be a nice idea, but i do have to say i would expect that more from piper or leo who were his best friends. i feel annabeth and percy have seen too much death and mourning to really name anyone after the dead.

ranking my favorite percabeth scenes (in pjo only not hoo) because i need to get this off my chest

(disclaimers that this is def pretty percy centric but that’s bc pjo is from his pov, i haven’t reread hoo recently enough!! and ik the first scene im mentioning is also very popular but i feel like we can always be talking about it more. this is my ramble i can do what i want)

1. for me my favorite scene in any rick riordan book will be when annabeth takes the knife for percy in TLO and then when they’re on the rooftop afterwards. she’s literally his achilles heel. he didn’t tell her where his weak spot is but she took the knife anyway. Get back no one touches her. him letting her feel the spot on his back. You’re cute when you’re worried your eyebrows get all scrunched up. sorry i’m crazy

2. when they got paired up for war games in BOTL and percy said “nice” and annabeth just said “your armor’s crooked” and fixed his straps. I think about it so often

3. annabeth sitting with percy at the poseidon table in BOTL. She was sitting next to me. i mean Right next to me. him saying he liked the fact that she broke the rules to sit w him. the other campers looking….. they’re besties your honor

4. when they’re doing the cabin inspections in TLO and annabeth is cleaning up her stuff in the athena cabin and she’s like This whole thing with beckendorf and silena makes you think about what’s important. about losing people that are important and percy short circuiting and thinking abt how he could only focus on the earrings she was wearing. i hold them in my hands

5. percy’s panic when he thought annabeth was going to go with the hunters of artemis. he literally just got her back he was so scared that he’d lose her for real this time … the way he stutters makes me spin in a circle really fast like i just love the ttc angst pushing them into realizing what they truly mean to each other

6. underrated SOM moment is after scylla and charybdis when it’s just percy and annabeth in a little lifeboat before arriving at circe’s island, and when percy snaps at annabeth and she apologizes hes like i can’t resent her we’ve been through so much together there’s no point in holding a grudge…. my babies!!! (SOM percabeth is just too underrated like to me it’s when they really start to understand each other, what makes them tick, what the other has gone through, it puts them on the same page which sets up their dynamic in the rest of the series)

7. when annabeth is passed out in SOM and they have the fleece on her and percy whispers “you’re a genius” to her because he promised to tell her that if they made it out alive 😭😭

8. percabeth in the attic in TLO getting the great prophecy and reminiscing and then locking eyes and percy remembering another time they were alone together when annabeth kissed him in mt st helens. crazy scene it’s CRAZY

9. annabeth’s reaction when percy shows up back at camp after being at calypsos island. he was the bravest person i’d ever known… he’s…. HES RIGHT THERE!! is just SO ICONIC and her hugging him so fiercely :(((( he literally crashes his own funeral and annabeth being mad at him but also clearly incredibly relieved makes my heart ache even if it’s silly. such a tragedy that we don’t get annabeths pov in pjo because i would have loved to know how she was feeling in the like two weeks where she thought percy was gone

and then there’s obvious ones like the underwater kiss, “a kiss for good luck it’s kind of a tradition right”, mt st helens, aphrodite looking like annabeth, giving up immortality, and pretty much everything percabeth in TLT i feel like is discussed so much too bc of the show lmao

anyways girls when they reread pjo and notice even more little percabeth moments every time they read it 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫🤯🤯🤯😭😭😭😭😭😭

Okay okay okay, I love Paul being just a Normal Guy™ as much as the next person, but consider:

Sally/Paul being the reincarnations of Odysseus/Penelope (Epic versions)

There are two equally entertaining options (presume they regain their memories late teens/early twenties):

1) Paul as Ody and Sally as Pen

The obvious one. Sally dealing with asshole men for the sake of her son? Doing everything she can to protect her family while also always being partially outside of the danger they face? And then she can finally rest and be happy once she reunites with her husband? Wonderful, peak, and this time she gets to deal with the asshole man herself, it's great.

Meanwhile, Paul being utterly devoted to his wife and kid despite not realizing everything that's going on? Pursuing knowledge, his tongue and wit his greatest attributes? Missing the kid's childhood and doing everything he can to make up for it even though it wasn't his choice to not be there? The kid going through all the trauma he went through and more while he can't do anything about it? The kid being his greatest enemy's son? No notes, he teaches Percy his tricks and answers all of Annabeth's questions.

2) Paul as Pen and Sally as Ody

The less obvious one but with more comedic potential courtesy of gender fuckery. Sally has a kid with her greatest enemy and is horrified that Penelope ever agreed to go through pregnancy and childbirth without modern technology. She teaches Percy everything she knows and worships the fact that she gets to raise him, even if he's always away and she has to deal with Gabe. Horrified that her son has to go on quests and save the world, though he's more prepared than she ever was due to her teachings. Absolutely giddy the first time Percy mentions Annabeth and that she's an Athena child. She's documenting every tiny milestone of his life.

Paul is the one that has to connect with a kid he's never known in this one and his love and respect for Odysseus doing so, especially freshly traumatized from twenty years of fighting for survival, multiply tenfold. He's constantly holding Sally through not knowing how their kid is doing — they just know that he's usually in mortal danger— and not being able to do anything about it; she's gotten a few years of experience before Paul came into the picture, but two years are nothing to two decades of waiting.

I dunno if Percy is Telemachus; I've been considering making him like,,,,, Annabeth or something, their ambition for fame seems to match, and the connection to Athena would be fun to explore. I just think Ody and Pen should get more kids. If Percy's isn't Telemachus, he'd probably have some minor this-family-is-essentially-soulbound-and-I'm-not-a-part-of-it; Sally mostly stamped it out between TLT and TTC, but Paul's arrival knocks that down a little, especially if they do find Telemachus as well. They put a stop to this as soon as they realize, tho; they love their kids equally, past lives or not.

That's about it. I just think it's a fun idea to contrast the Percabeth-as-Odypen concept
