one piece old people appreciation post in honor of the NEWEST ADDITION
and a throwback to when inoue takehiko and oda eiichiro talked about how much they love old men
Oda: I like all the old man characters in general. They're really endearing. Inoue: Hahahaha! Oda: Yagyu Sekishusai is especially good. Especially endearing is the scene where he says out of nowhere, "Can I brag about my grandson?" What's really appealing about Inoue-sensei's work is that even when characters are developing through hardships, the endearing qualities always remain. The small text dialogue just casually snuck in makes me laugh. The scene where Musashi says "Nyanko-sensei" (Kitten-sensei) really made me laugh (laughs). That kind of portrayal is done in a really natural way, and makes the readers really accept the characters. Even when taking on difficult themes, I think that the skill with which Inoue-sensei makes his characters has the power to draw in a wide audience. Inoue: I really like drawing the old man characters. Left unchecked, all the characters would be elderly men. (laughs) Oda: It's fun to draw the wrinkles in the face, isn't it? Inoue: Once I start drawing them, I draw them incessantly. I think we both like drawing very human characters, don't we? Oda: I agree. Inoue: I think with the elderly, the more wrinkles you draw the more human they become. The more you add, the more you add to their lifespan - that's the face of the elderly, isn't it? It makes it really worthwhile to draw.

I love Sabo as a character so much! However something about his introduction into the story has bothered me for a while. Oda is a master story teller but it truly feels a bit like Sabo whole existence was dropped into our laps out of nowhere. What's your opinion on his introduction? And if you could, what would you change?
Thank you so much for all your amazing art! Always sparks joy.

Hello hello! I also love Sabo a lot and as such theres a lot that I’ve had to come to terms with and work out with myself. I’ll let you in on my brain worms and what they’ve concluded with this subject though so hopefully some kind of weight is lifted off your shoulders, cuz right now, i think his introduction was done really well.
So first off, All Of Luffy’s family members’s whole existences were dropped into our laps out of nowhere, to be fair.
Luffy is not one to talk about his family or his past at all. So i dont blame him for not telling us directly about sabo when he barely told us about ace as he stood in front of us in Alabasta. But even if he doesnt talk about his family, for me, it’s very easy to see what Sabo’s influence on and especially what the loss of him taught Luffy before we even officially see him. We see it especially in water 7/enis lobby/sabaody arcs. During the course of the story up to that point, we don’t really see the world government, but even so, we see Luffy’s complete understanding of the cruelty and heartache it creates. We see his utter determination to not let a single other person he loves be taken away by the world government, too.
Also in Arlong Park! We see him understand what someone’s sacrifice on his behalf looks like. He knows how it ended last time. He’s not going to let it happen again and seeing it happen again in arlong park and water 7 and sabaody and Marineford absolutely kills him. Omg not even to mention Shanks losing his arm, too. This man is completely surrounded by people sacrificing themselves for him wtf. But like Shanks’ situation didnt give him that patented World Government Hatred, babeyyyyyy
And with how he was reintroduced officially in dressrosa, i think it was very artistically done. Like having all those themes and parallels to Luffy’s childhood, even going so far as him pointing them out, himself. That, and the Mera Mera No Mi coming back into the story, it gets you thinking back on Luffy’s backstory and what his brotherhood meant to him. So like Sabo’s already in the back of your mind from that and then youre also thinking “well who the hell is gonna get this fruit once Luffy wins it??” So when Sabo comes back i just feel like “of course. Of course it could be no one else but you.”
Also E S P E C I A L L Y with introducing Sabo, famous Amnesia Patient, back into the story during an arc that explores the absolute horrors of being forgotten and being the one forgetting???? Like truly the most opportune moment to get him back in there. I really love the Dressrosa arc, i think it’s all done very well.
I feel like if it was just Ace and Luffy, it would feel incomplete. Like Sabo’s part in their backstories just adds such a delicious spice to the age old dynamic of “older brother who dies for younger brother who he loves a lot.”
Like tell me Ace’s Death would hit the same if Ace didnt already know what it felt like to lose a brother.
His passing is already beyond tragic but like Sabo’s whole part in it just makes it so much more tragic in a way thats just 😚🤌 mwah~❤️ 𝕷𝖎𝖋𝖊 𝕽𝖚𝖎𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌.
Sabo’s presence also adds a very personal level to Luffy’s understanding of the world he lived in. Like the big picture. I really think that if sabo wasnt occupying that space, Luffy wouldnt try to even know about the WG or class warfare or bother with any of that shit. Sabo is Luffy’s draw to the world around him me thinks. Like of course he would have to face that stuff when he went pirating, but those lessons would not have been taught to him before he got out there without Sabo.
This is the same in present day, like why would Luffy care at all about the Rev Army if Sabo wasnt in it? He’d be very thankful that they took Robin in, but like he wouldnt be actively asking about how the Rev Army was doing if his big bro wasnt a big part of it.
Also on that note of Sabo being in the Rev Army, I think that before Ace’s death and Sabo regaining his memory, Sabo wouldve been sneaky and largely unseen. Like yeah he barges into marine fortresses to take them down, but usually there isnt any survivors to tell the tales of him doing so. So before the timeskip, Sabo is out of the public eye. Out of any eye, really. But in my mind, when he regains his memory, i think he would do his level best to get his name out there. Thats why we see all those people in the colosseum/dressrosa be like “:O!!!! ITS THE CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE REV ARMY NOOOO” its cuz all his inhibitions left him. So like his face would be in news papers but luffy doesnt read news papers to find that Sabo’s alive and doing shit.
I think that Sabo took so long to let luffy know he was alive because he was scared luffy would hate him. I think he was scared of the potential scorn from his little brother he feels he wouldve been justified in getting. I think that if luffy was not put in a position where he wouldnt be able to fight in the colosseum anymore due to Law Getting Shot And Taken Off circumstances, Sabo wouldve let Luff keep going all the way to the end. But in that moment, Sabo knew that the fruit was no longer in his little brother’s capable hands and had to take matters into his own. Like we see him thinking about this in the episode of Sabo. We see him slowly following luffy around, listening, waiting, understanding the complexities of his situation, and ultimately making the decision to swap places with him.
I could literally talk about this forever i love talking about this forever and ever theres so much to discuss.
I’ve heard criticisms that Sabo’s amnesia story feels like fanfiction, but like,,, I just cant stop thinking about the hilarity of it all. Like why do you care that all this is all convenient, when it’s kinda funny. Like image you’re explaining your tragic backstory to someone and like you have to be like “now i know this sounds really. Really. Convenient. And ironic. But it’s My Life and I’ve had to Live Through It so please dont laugh.” Like idk!! ITS KINDA FUNNY!!!!!!!!!
I dont think i would be able to change anything about Sabo’s presence in the story without someone being out of character if im being honest. Like Luffy doesnt bring up his past, Ace doesnt like bringing up things that cause him pain, and we dont meet anyone else who knew he even existed until we see Luff’s backstory.
There’s a panel in the logue town arc though, that kinda looks like Sabo standing in the crowd. I think that maybe in the reanimated show or even the life action, if we could get a closer visual on him, just to see that he exists there, i think that would be neat.
Thanks for the question and kind words! Hope you enjoyed the long rant, i could rant for 2000000 more paragraphs but I’ll cut it there for now.

In Defense of Nami and Robin (Off Anon for the pics)
So, yes, Oda's way of drawing women is...not great. But they are written beautifully, and to be fair, Toei (The anime) makes the design issue even worse than it is in the manga. (Also, the way in which they ugly cry is amazing, full snot, tears, wobbly lips, red face).
Nami and Robin are some of the best written, well rounded female characters I've seen. They have similar arcs, with tragic backstories that shaped how they see the world and affects their actions and relationships to others, and they have to learn to rely on others, and ask for help and put their trust in others. They are integral to the plot, Luffy will never be able to achieve his dream of being the Pirate King without them.
So first of all, Nami
Yes, this is probably the best picture of Nami's waist in the series, at least, post-time skip
Nami is the Navigator of the Strawhat Pirates, and an officer of the grand fleet. Unfortunately, the same face syndrome does start with her, a lot of the female characters will have her face. But design aesthetics aside, she is a wonder, complex, and dynamic character.
She was adopted by a marine women and raised on a tangerine farm with her older sister. They were poor, Nami always got her sister's hand-me-downs and their mom often skipped meals to make sure her girls had enough to eat. Nami, was an average 8 year old brat who did resent not having enough money to eat, or have clothes, or to buy navigation books like she wanted. But she was loved. So, of course, pirates attacked her village. They demanded a fine from each of the families in town based on adults and children in the household, and her mom was killed because she only had enough money for the girls. The same pirate, Arlong, made a deal with Nami, she could buy back her village for 100,000 belli, but in the meantime, she had to join his crew and work for him creating maps, where he preceded to work her until her fingers bled. She also became a thief and stole money from other pirates to add to the funds to buy her village back. This is where her catch phrase "I only love money and tangerines!" comes from. She intended to betray the Strawhats, but realized that they were the only people to ever show her love and kindness, and when Arlong betrayed her, she learned how to ask for help, to ease her burdens and rely on others when she needed it. Her scene where she was trying to cut her Arlong Pirate's tattoo off before asking Luffy for help remains one of the most profound moments in anime. While she was saved from Arlong, I wouldn't say she was necessarily a damsel in distress, she tried everything in her power, and part of her arc was accepting she didn't have to be alone. Luffy also never insisted on helping her because she was a weak girl or anything, he didn't care at all about her backstory, he just wanted to hurt whoever made her cry.
Apart of Nami's character is her love of money, desire to create maps and navigate the world, and how much she loves her friends/family and is willing to sacrifice for them, as well as the amount of forgiveness and kindness she is capable of and her love for children. She forgave one of the pirates that kept her as a slave, and when his friend, Camie, was almost sold into slavery, Nami didn't hesitate to spend all the money they had to buy her freedom. She discovered children were being experimented on by a crazy scientist and nearly went scorched earth.
When Nami came face to face with an enemy she couldn't beat, despite being a coward and thinking of herself as weak, she didn't back down because she refused to dismiss her captain. She showed incredible bravery and integrity, refusing to lie and break her ideals.
But she can also hold her own as well, she doesn't always lose or need to be rescued. She fights with a Clima-Tact, a weapon that allows her to summon lightning and use weather phenomena to her advantage. She beat Kalifa, a government assassin, Miss-Double-Finger, one of the strongest assassins in Baroque Works, Hotori and Kotori, and various other pirates. She also is particularly agile and has pretty high endurance. (Bonus points, in an anime filler arc, she is the first character with on-screen confirmed kill)
She also is a very skilled navigator, thief, liar, can predict weather phenomenon, maintains the crew's money and budget, a con artist, and cartography (including sea charts which are very difficult). She loves fashion, money, shopping, and is vain. She also somehow maintains her mom's tangerine trees while on a sailing ship.
The fandom widely considered her to be a lesbian, but of course that is only coding/head canons. But she has had very close relationships to other women in the series, including Vivi, and has expressed that she "has a soft spot for strong marine women."
Nico Robin

Her introduction to the series was strong, as she is one of the strongest members of the enemy faction Baroque Works. She was a serious threat, managing to infiltrate the Strawhat's ship and steal Luffy's hat and living to tell the tale, but she was also very mysterious and compelling. Despite being an enemy, she saved Luffy's life, and expressed amusement over his antics. When she tried to commit suicide in the tombs below Alabasta, after betraying her boss, Luffy saved her life, despite her protests. In return, she snuck back onto his ship and made herself his problem.
Like Nami, she has a tragic past that cause her profound trauma, sadness, a distrust in others, but ultimately, she found hope in the Strawhat pirates, and in Luffy, learning how to rely on them, and in return, being relied on. She can ask for help from them, but they ask for help from her as well.
When she was a child, her mother left to sail the seas and become an archaeologist. She was outcasted by her aunt, and her village, but she was accepted by the scholars who lived on her island. The island's name was Ohara. Against the other archaeologists wishes, she learned how to read the mysterious poneglyphs because she wanted to learn the true history of the world. Her first friend was a giant who washed up on the island and taught her how to laugh. But the World Government outlawed the language of the poneglyphs and learning about the true history. And so, they wiped her island clean off the map in an act called a Buster Call, and every single person but Robin was died. Desperate to capture her, they placed a 79,000,000 bounty on her head when she was only 8 years old, dubbed her a "devil child" and claimed she destroyed several marine battleships. For nearly 20 years she ran from organization to organization, only for all of them to betray her and try and turn her in.
While sailing with Luffy, it was the happiest she had ever been. Despite being an enemy just weeks earlier, they accepted her. Even when she was injured by another enemy, Zoro was pissed on her behalf. SO when the World Government finally caught up with her and blackmailed her into helping them while threatening to enact a Buster Call on the Strawhats (and an innocent island) she agreed to go along with them, even trying to sacrifice her own life so that the Strawhats can escape.
Of course, Luffy declared war on the Government and made Robin admit she didn't want to die, she wanted to live.
Robin is smart, capable, caring, funny, and strong. She just wants to learn history and have a family, and she suffered for years before she was finally able to be free enough to do so. She is a strong fighter because she had to be, and she is completely willing to became a monster and protect her friends. She hasn't been in many fights, but she won all of the ones she was in. She wasn't fooled by mind games and magic of enemies in Wano, and kept a calm and collected head. She is a skilled historian, archaeologist, osteologists, assassin, espionage, linguistics, and was a popular geisha. For most of the series she held the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, highest bounties in the crew. When an enemy threatened the crew, a different enemy pointed out that, (at least, With Luffy not there) Zoro and Robin were labeled as the strongest and most threatening members of the crew, capable of killing an enemy before the rest of the crew were even aware of the threat. Oh, and she has a demon form.

Other Female Characters: Kiku/O-Kiku/Kikunojo of the Fallen Snow

A canonical transgender women who is also a samurai. She is completely accepted for who she is by everyone in the story, and is another strong and capable female character. She is shy and tries to keep a low profile (despite being 8 feet tall), but is more than willing to defend the weak and win back her home island.
The original ask mentioned healers, and there isn't a whole lot of female doctors/healers in One Piece but there is Dr. Kureha. Kureha is the oldest human character, wears crop tops in winter, and will beat Luffy with a rubber chicken and an axe for calling her old. She taught Chopper everything he knows. She is crotchety and stingy, but an amazing doctor and a professional.

Boa Hancock:
Yes she is the most beautiful woman in the world, and yes, her design leaves some to be desired. But she is also a rape victim and a former slave, she hates men, and runs an empire of female pirates. She shows kindness to Luffy once he establishes he holds no sexual desire for her and wanted so save the lives of people he just met.

Other Notable Female Designs
The first mermaid we meet is Kokoro:
Dadan is Luffy's adopted mom who raised 3 feral boys and is the leader of a band of mountain bandits:
Big Mom is one of the strongest female pirates in the series and has dozens of children:
Vice Admiral Tsuru is one of the strongest female marines:
Boa Sandersonia and Marigold, Hancock's sister with the same backstory :

Lola, one of Nami's friends:
Other Gender Stuff:
Ivankov and Inazuma who are genderfluid, and Ivankov is the Queen of an island of queer people

Bonclay who is genderqueer, refered to as both male and female

And Morley who is also transfem
Despite the character designs, One Piece has some of the best written female characters, even if at first glance they may seem like stereotypical shonen women, they hold much more complexity to them. They aren't all damsels in distress, but their strength goes beyond just being able to kick ass. They are kind and compassionate, and they kindness are rarely seen as a weakness. They are smart and experts in their fields of study, which is wide and varied, from history, cartography, science, and medicine. There are several female rulers of their countries, including Hancock, Vivi, and Big Mom. There is a variety of body types and faces, even if they are lacking in compared to male characters. All of their backstories are unique, fleshed out, and has an impact on their characters and their character arcs.
Did I spend two hours typing a 2000+ word essay on women and started to lose steam? Yes. Am I passionate about female characters in One Piece? Also yes. Can you tell I'm very gay for these characters? Probably. Am I sorry to the mod/followers for the long post? Eh, y'all asked for this lmao. Did I catch all the spelling mistakes in my frantically written essay. Maybe
For context, they are responding to this post about Nami and Robin
I don't have anything else to add other than great work

Applauding myself for somehow fitting my thoughts on this arc in just three posts. This was a feat

Pudding to me is one of the most overhated characters in the series. She’s a sixteen year old girl who has been conditioned to believe by her own mother that she’s disgusting and ugly, and since she’s not physically strong the only way she can see herself being useful is by being the cunning one. When Sanji calls her eye beautiful, the same eye that she was ridiculed for her entire life, she breaks down, and she falls for Sanji as he’s the first person outside of her siblings that sees her as something other than a monster once he sees her eye. She’s not an evil bitch like a lot of people are convinced she is, she’s a traumatised child

In other news about the wedding, I adore Luffy’s plan of using Brûlée’s power and doing the funniest thing he could: creating a situation in which a hundred feral Luffys jump out of Big Mom’s cake. Absolutely hilarious and wonderful everyone go home. Things seriously don’t go Linlin’s way cause soon enough Jinbei straight up leaves her crew. And holy hell I love this scene so much. He’s so badass! Standing in front of a terrifying emperor and not even flinching? Not being scared at all? Jinbei is one of the most loyal Straw Hats and here you can see it on full display

Big Mom’s backstory in itself is insane, and while most people will be jaw dropped at the plot point that Linlin accidentally ate her friends without even realising it, to me the Mother Carmel reveal is what always gets me. ‘Orphan seller’ displayed in the box is so jarring, and the fact it’s the navy looking for these kids should tell you all you need to know about how much they actually care for the justice they wear on their backs so proudly

While Luffy vs Katakuri is great in the anime, as Whole Cake is where I’d say the current style of One Piece finally found it’s bearings, it’s absolutely ingenious in the manga. Oda goes so hard on the panelling, and the pacing of the fight is absolutely wonderful, with the reader learning more about Luffy’s abilities, Katakuri as a person and the dynamic between the two as the battle goes along, and it never once feels as if Oda is drawing something out or adding unneeded stuff. Everything here serves a purpose, and I adore this fight, even if it isn’t my favorite in the series
Also on the topic of Luffy vs Katakuri I highly recommend this video as it goes over WHY the panelling of the fight works, it’s really good I just gotta recommend it

Something I really like about Whole Cake is how it brings back the themes of Sanji’s character explored in Baratie, and puts them on full display. Big Mom may be a tyrannical emperor that’s chasing the main characters to kill them, but for Sanji, she’s still hungry, and she still deserves to eat food. It’s the biggest reason Luffy wanted him on the crew: his kindness towards everyone, something his father saw as a weakness, but that One Piece shows you again and again, is an important trait to have

And well, the cake Sanji, Pudding and Chiffon make us absolutely wonderful. I really want to bring attention to the absolute masterclass of a panel this last one here is, from the passage of time when you’re holding your breath between the six panels before it, to the absolutely amazing rendering of Big Mom’s face, I adore it so much. Maybe it’s a silly thing to gush over and give a whole section to; but damn me if I didn’t mention it

Besides the musical number being sung in the background, Whole Cake Island ends with Jinbei now officially a Straw Hat, but having to leave for the last time to save the crew. Again, his loyalty is unmatched, one that has been built up since the Summit War Saga, and every single time it’s on display, I love his character more and more. I genuinely don’t get people who believe he shouldn’t be a Straw Hat, he deserves to be part of the crew more than anyone else you could have wanted here
#one piece#op reading corner#whole cake island#charlotte pudding#monkey d luffy#jinbei#sanji one piece#charlotte linlin#straw hat pirates#wci is a beast of an arc god I love it so much

Hi!!!
I have a question, you don’t have to answer this question, but I went through most of your blog and I noticed you shipped Zosan (I do too!!!!) The question is, what other One piece ships do you ship? I’m not much of a multi-shipper but I’m not against any ship (unless it’s weird).
I really love your art and adore your Zosan family.
Also love Rejiu hehe
Thank you for blessing this space with your beautiful art!
Ohh this is an interesting ask. I haven't had a chance to talk about my favorite One Piece ships other than Zosan so far, so might as well do it here!
When it comes to multiships, I'm an AllSan shipper in the sense that I love the concept where everyone is at least a bit in love with Sanji — but my main favorite AllSan ships are Lusan, Acesan, Pedrosan, and sometimes Katasan if I'm in the mood. They're mostly a way for me to enjoy different Sanji dynamics with different characters, so they're mostly very Sanji-centric.
Lawlu/Lulaw is probably the closest thing I have as my second favorite ship in OP. Gotta love the good ol' sunshine & grumpy dynamic. I love the idea of them being able to bring out each other's softer side, like how the perpetually frowning Law would break into a soft smile whenever Luffy is around, or the hyperactive Luffy slowing down just a tiniest bit so he can listen more attentively when Law is talking to him. (this reminds me that I need to draw them more often rip)
A pairing I wouldn't expect to find so endearing is Zeff/Sora. The idea of the grumpy foul-mouthed Zeff being all soft and mushy towards Sora fucking melts me, especially in AU settings where Sora is divorced and/or taking care of her children alone. They're literally what Sanji's (and his siblings') parents would be like if they actually had a decent childhood.
Frobin is a classic. They're that type of couple who has the freakiest and most insane kinks in bed while also having the healthiest relationship you've ever seen. Dofuwani is more of a "terrible people in love" ship and I love their "enemies to lovers to exes to whatever they are now" energy. I also enjoy Shanks/Mihawk and Shanks/Buggy for the divorced parents vibe (sorry Shanks). And also whatever the hell is going on with Buggy/Mihawk/Crocodile right now. It's less "i ship them romantically" and more "i want to see what kind of fuckery they're getting into". A fucked-up goth-mafia-circus old men polycule... Oda is cooking something here
That's what I can remember on top of my head right now. There are other ships out there that I don't necessarily ship romantically, just that I find them interesting or because I want to see them fuck nasty lol. OP is a great fandom to find all sorts of ship dynamics really, since you got a large number of characters, equally large number of fans, and 20+ years worth of fanworks all mixed together haha.
#ask#if i think about it i dont really ship zoro with anyone else lol#maybe zo//law but only like. as exes or smthing#but i do like platonic zo//lu bc i love their comadrerie as the first two strawhats + their captain & first mate dynamic

rambling about various bsd characters and things every day for a month :: 6/31 :: jouno

stamps my feet and points ^ i love this man so much.
I've seen so many people in the fandom completely characterize him and it drives me NUTS. No, he isn't just a sadist. No, he isn't inherently good. For fuck's sake, no, he isn't just "misunderstood."
Jouno genuinely does not "care about everyone deep down." He IS a sadist, he enjoys seeing people in pain, being tortured, but that's not all of it.
He doesn't give two fucks about good and bad or morals. I'm sure, being a part of the hunting dogs and everything, Jouno has had ideals of justice and morality impressed upon him, and he understands those concepts, he just doesn't care.
I'd like to just draw a parallel between him and Dazai really quickly. Both of them are considerably morally gray, that's widely accepted. However, in this comparison the difference is illustrated really well; Dazai spent a lot of time in the port mafia, right?
During his time in the PM, Dazai has tortured people numerous times (see his conversation with Kouyou) but that was all for a purpose. Dazai tortured people for his own gain, to reach his goals; Jouno does it just because, for his entertainment. Dazai also understands the concept of morality, and he's constantly trying to become a better person like Oda wanted. Dazai cares about good and bad, and right and wrong to a point.
Jouno, on the other hand, doesn't. Though he's part of the HD, and his job is literally in the pursuit of justice, he doesn't care. He does his job not out of pride for what he does, nor does he strive to become a better person.
Sorry, that was a lot but it drives me crazy when people call him misunderstood or not really a bad guy.
My next point is about the better (?), or the side of Jouno that we associate more with good. His character development, so to say, can be seen in chapter 92.5 (i think? correct me if i'm wrong), when he saves the old woman.
I think he honestly felt appreciated by her, and that caused a major change in his psyche, or at least, triggered it. In all these years of working as a hunting dog, I'm sure that somewhat subconsciously, a sense of justice has reached him. Yes, it isn't very strong, yes, we don't see it much, and yes, it hasn't stopped him from continuing to do horrible things, but it is still there nonetheless.
This just shows part of his motivation, or why he betrayed Fukuchi at the airport. The smallest sense of justice he felt drove him to arguably save the world.
And finally, this is more speculation than fact, but I think this betrayal also seemed like redemption to Jouno. Think about it: Jouno KNOWS that what he does and feels is "wrong" by society's standards, he just doesn't care (i just wrote 6 paragraphs about this help-), but the smallest bit of morality, along with how he felt at the bank, drove him to move a little towards good.
All his life, Jouno was aware of how twisted and horrifying his nature is, and I think he started to see himself as a monster or inhuman at some point (to be fair, the hunting dogs ARE inhuman, because of the surgeries and whatnot). This was his atonement.

My thoughts on OP ships except I’m being 100% honest (P.3)
SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR THE HEROINES ONE PIECE NOVEL

*LawBepo
- I don’t know about you but to me I’m neutral about it, if you ship this, good for you! If you don’t then okay!
- I do think it’s a cute ship though with their interactions, relationship between the two, etc..
- And it actually MAKE SENSE
- Like hear me out, Law would actually marry a polar bear because of how much of a freak he is and considering he’s a pirate, he wouldn’t care if other people think it’s weird, at least he has his fluffy boyfriend.
- I draw these two a lot in my sketchbooks, like every single one just HAD to have Law and Bepo together or else those sketchbooks are not mine
- he has a soft spot for Bepo, definitely Bepo. He hates everyone and everyone but his crew, Corazon and BEPO.
-In the SBS, Oda did tell us about how Law met Bepo (with Penguin and Shachi), at that time Law was a kid along with the three others so that means Law and Bepo knew each other since they were children and are super close.
- FUNFACT : You know how Law hates Umeboshi right? Well Bepo likes eating it with onigiri pretty much! I like to imagine that if someone ever gift Law some onigiri with umeboshi inside, he will give them to Bepo.
*Smoshigi
- Small girl with her gigantic DILF (idk what that means but I think it’s fitting).
- it’s the size difference isn’t it?
- I like their chemistry a lot! It’s pretty cute in my opinion.
- for some people, a 10 year age gap is too much (Shigi is 23, Smoky is 36, so that means it’s 13 year age gap then) but they’re both adults so I guess it’s legal? I mean Rayleigh and his wife has a 10 year age gap and they’re old now-
- this might be controversial but… Smoshigi is better than Zoshigi or Lawshigi in my PERSONAL OPINION.
Zoro is confirmed to have no interest in women by Oda and for Law i don’t think he’d date her or even taken interest in her in general.
(I telling all this like a hater I’m so sorry I don’t mean to sound like one DDDX!! If you ship Zoshigi or Lawshigi it’s totally fine and valid! It’s just my opinion!)
*Sanami
- MY FAV SHIP!!!!! I love them so much they’re so cute!!! <3333333333
- Theres this one part of the OP stage actors and actresses like an event or something?? And I saw a video of these two where basically Sanji is being a simp as always, drops on one knee and like hold out his hand to Nami
Nami holds his hand then blows him a kiss!!!!! IT MADE HIM STARTED BREAKDANCING ITS HONESTLY SO CUTE AGSHSVHSHSHSHWHHSHW
- They’re the DEFINITION of GIRLBOSS MALEWIFE FRFR!!! No 🧢!!!!!!
- wait did I already put this ship in part 1 or part 2? Man idc anymore I just genuinely LOVE this ship!! If it becomes canon I will become happy! (Even though it’s highly unlikely it’s fine!)
- I just love their moments together you know? When I was young I always wanted the two of them to kiss a lot, I have never change at all 😈
- Like look at the sad French man! How can you not kiss him!?!?!?! He makes you desserts you really like, compliments and swoons at you everyday, cooks for you, loves you for who you are, patient and will listen to you whenever you have a bad day, shows affection to you, a gentleman, IN A SUIT, ALSO WEARS AN APRON AS WELL, Respects you, etc… etc… he’s the only French I like <333/j
- They’re also both good with kids and have a soft spot for them! Oda stated that if Nami is ever kind to someone it’s women and Children, for Sanji he always has a motherly nature surrounding him, his interactions with the DK crew proves this!!!
- AGH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!! IM DYING!!!
*KozaVivi
- a HUGGGGEEE fan of childhood friends to lovers trope <3333333333
- I love these two a lot, I ship them a lot TOO! I want them to have more interactions!
- in the Heroines novel, I just love Vivi’s episode with Koza and the love letter (NO CONTEXT HEHEHE 😈) it’s so so so SOOO sweet it’s giving me diabetes
Like it’s so funny, full of sweetness and wholesomeness! I love them!
- I wish these two would be canon… if not it’s fine as well… because I have another ship up my sleeve… *takes out hand*

Okay so I love love LOVE the way you draw the monkey d family it FUELS MY SOUL. I’m new to this app and I have lived my whole life thinking nobody drew them due to there being a lack of it but HERE WE ARE!! I absolutely love the luffys mom design and need to know everything about her. May we have a fun fact abt her? (If not that’s cool too)
thank you sm!!! ABSOLUTELY. i love her too. was waiting for someone to ask. this might be a little long.
she acts JUST like luffy. same mannerisms and everything. not as “empty headed” or frivolous but you get the idea. confronting, loud, blunt, selfish to the point where she’s extraordinarily selfless, etc..
samoan-austronesian ofc !!
she’s an international big-time con artist who steals(pirates) from local corrupt, rich leaders of different islands through her sea voyaging. she rarely uses the money for herself, but for the purpose of gifting it to the poor people who really need it. it’s a robin hood allegory. she’s very bright and quick-witted. and beats people up if they deserve it most importantly
traveled usually with friends from her home village and sometimes new people met venturing. unironically, very good wayfinder. she can navigate extremely well even without the help of her best friend, who was their ship’s navigator. she did this for 10+ years. the government wishes she would explode.
garp is more or less angry about this but mostly because her bounty would only continue to rise. meaning it’s dangerous. at that point, he’s like “oi sole !! fine! whatever she can handle herself i guess. it’s not like i can stop her !” it’s so funny to me, he can’t control his kid, his grandkids to come, or his son in law who just so happens to be the most wanted criminal in the world 😭 no one listens to him. i’m sure he feels crazy. most of his aiga are considered criminals.
may or may not be a devil fruit user. probably not tbh.
i figured since oda keeps insisting that luffy looks just like garp when he’s young and when he’s older, i thought yeah exactly ! luffy’s the spitting image of his mum too.
her and dragon met on her island when they were young. i’d say around the age 14-16. when they married many years later, dragon took her last name for reasons iykyk
before they married though, her and dragon went voyaging as well. they did many revolutionary missions/undertakings together. even before dragon named the endeavor a “revolutionary army.” this was the beginning.
dragon developed feelings for her and of course, it took her a long while to realize this.
luffy’s mom knows dadan. she’s an old friend of hers. wink wink. this is why garp is familiar with dadan and trusted luffy (and ace)with her.
i’d like to think(i DO think) they gave luffy over to dadan for safety reasons if we’re being honest. this is why luffy probably never saw his biological mom.
i like to paint luffy with a bit of pink in his eyes, a feature his mom and his grandpa garp, and previous maternal family members inherit. notice how gear 5 has pink-reddish eyes too !
after luffy was born she doesn’t scheme as much. things happened. with her bounty it’s not safe to stay in one place, but she does get to relax in her home village on every good occasion. she kinda has to play hopscotch between islands so they won’t be targeted.
*
these are just a couple of ideas i had about her. a little might change later but this is how i feel about her (possible) character. AUGHHH i really wish to expand more on this and draw more of her. i do have unfinished drawings of her in my cloud though. im super busy with college rn. i will post more art of the monkey d aiga (family) when i have the time to !!! i’m SO happy you like how i interpret them 💗💗💗
#luffys mom#monkey d dragon#monkey d luffy#monkey d garp#one piece#headcanons#i personally think she’d be cool asf#didn’t really consider herself a pirate until everyone else did cause she doesn’t like labels#high bounty so i guess that equates to pirate#she just does what she does#ask

Chapter 1140 Reaction
[proceed for full-on spoilers]
Heck yeah, I’m sosososososososo happy we finally got Gaban. Previous chapter made me so happy, you have no idea. And thank you, Goda, for giving me another sexy old man. You’re never gonna hear the end of it. (Maybe I’ll post some thoughts on 1139 later just to scream more about this man.)
Zoro remembering what Colon said about his father already tells me he’s gonna take Gaban seriously. Of course, Gaban just teases Luffy at first, but using the key as weapon is so cool to me. The key looks beautiful in every frame, but this sequence clearly is the highlight:
The way the key bends too to emphasize how hard it was pressed, forced into the floor is chef’s kiss. The crackling in the small frame looks like conqueror’s to me but we’ll see if he actually has it or it’s just a different way of drawing advanced armament.
Tangent - It just confuses me when people online immediately rule out the possibility or say “he can’t have it”. I mean, why shouldn’t he? We’re in the endgame now, so we should expect it to appear more frequently. Feels like some power scalers are just afraid that if Gaban has it, Sanji will get it too, ‘cause of the parallel drawn between them, to which I have to say - 1. Gaban having it wouldn’t automatically mean Sanji will, they’re not the same person, just like Rayleigh isn’t a 1-to-1 copy of Zoro. Imo both Rayleigh and Gaban have a mix of traits from both Sanji and Zoro. - 2. Even if Sanji gets it too, I don’t see why that would be an issue? Just let the old man join the ranks of other hot powerful old men with huge cock COC. Rant over.
Gaban saying the straw hat suits Luffy better than the helmet is so sweet. He already pictures him as Roger :3 But calling Shanks a cheapskate is hilarious xD it makes me curious tho if Shanks actually wants it back and why… sus. I’d usually subscribe to the theory that Shanks realized Luffy will carry on Roger’s legacy and not him since Luffy shares the same dream - also his break-up scene with Buggy supports that - and prepared the way for Luffy. Maybe it’s not that deep and returning the hat is just meant to motivate Luffy and that’s why he doesn’t want to meet him yet - he wants to see him become Pirate King first, but who knows. Why is this man always so sus? But imagine if Gaban met Shanks again and just scolded him for not just giving Luffy the hat, man I love this family.
Back on track, Luffy getting angry at someone shitting on his loved ones is in-character but since we’re on Elbaf he does seem to escalate quickly. Going Gear 4 against Loki and now Gear 5 against Gaban first thing, from 0 to 100, strikes me as a bit weird. Maybe this will be explored later. Gaban cutting off the tower of a giant castle casually is wild. This was just a teaser. It reminds me of when Zoro cut the tower during his fight with Kaku on Water 7, but much bigger. This panel is cute, I love them :3
The helmet and horns merging with Luffy is a cute touch, but them teaming up to jump an old man is funny xD Also, what’s Luffy’s plan with the axe? Probably Gear 5 shenanigans, but Wano showed us that Luffy + blades don’t go well together xD Also mmh yes Gaban has sexy eyes, thanks Oda, much appreciated. I thought we’d have to wait much longer before he reveals them.
That this would only be a quick vibe-check and that Gaban surrenders was very clear to me from the start, but the way he goes about it is still hilarious. I didn’t even see at first how Luffy and Zoro crash through the rubble xD I thought it was from the impact of Gaban dropping his axes. BUT THIS!??
Comedy gold. “Don’t take it seriously. It’s just a joke.” and “We could have died.” - “You’re not dead, are you?” This is straight-up online prankster speak. It makes me imagine that Gaban in our world would be an old man with a tiktok account where he uploads stupid pranks and is just a menace to society. His account wouldn’t be very popular, maybe one random viral hit, but it’s his hobby after retirement. He crazy - but I’m beyond charmed. And if this was just casual fun for him, shit, what’s gonna happen when he’s serious? Oh my god, this is already so long, I should speed this up… Gaban’s parting words make it seem like Elbaf is going to be destroyed this arc, which was expected anyway, but does it mean we won’t see him again this arc? Damn, that’d be a bummer. I really hope we’ll see him anyway.
Luffy and Zoro still don’t know who he is lmao. Gaban appears for two chapters just to flex and throw some axes at Luffy and Zoro, says “it’s just a prank, bro” and leaves. What a chad.
About the God’s Knights… so, if they’re allowed to have family, does their family know about their immortality? How much do the knights know in general? Curious, curious. Also, what happened to Saturn’s family? Will they face punishment, too, or maybe they won’t ever know what happened? Very excited to explore these factions. Thankfully, we’re getting there.
I love how both were introduced. Both aren’t prepared but in opposite states. Absolutely adore Killingham’s kirin form! He looks so cool and fun, and I’m worried I’m gonna like his personality as well. The fact his name could be pronounced either as ‘kirin’ or ‘killin’ is genius. Sommers’s beard looking like a cross in reference to his sainthood and Ju Peter is a cool detail. Is he just randomly sitting in his military coat while in his undies? What is bro doing??? If the tattoo on his arm is the mark Killingham is referring to, this might have huge implications for Shanks. It sparked some cool theories about his lost arm. I’m usually not one of those who talk shit about how it makes no sense that Shanks lost his arm to that fish, I just accepted it as part of the storytelling, but if Oda decides to make a bigger story with this setup about how Shanks tried to reconnect with his family after Roger’s death, got the mark, and then gave up his arm to get his freedom back as Luffy gave him hope for the future, that would be pretty cool. Oda pulls off retcons like no other. But maybe they mean the sign on Killingham’s arm? Or is it a family crest? Perhaps both are just family crests and the mark refers to something invisible?
Anyway, Goonko blushing and turning away from Sommers till he’s dressed while she walks around in just panties is hilarious. I wonder how she’d react to Franky or that it’ll be a point of connection lol. Or maybe it’s just because he’s a God’s Knight. She wasn’t introduced as saint, so it’s possible she was just a normal person or a slave who got elevated to a holy knight. By “game” Scamrock probably means one like on God Valley. A native speaker confirmed that they’re written the same way in Japanese. I wonder, however, if it means they wanna fight all of Elbaf or he’s just talking about the children. We’ll see.
details corner:
[just some details I wanna point out for whatever reason.]
I can’t explain why, but the way the tree branches grow through the walls doesn’t sit right with me. The walls obviously weren’t built around it but it also doesn’t look like what happens to structures when trees try to find a way through. Probably this is just flavor and I’m overthinking it. Or maybe it shows that the damage was done long ago, in a battle, and later the plants filled the holes? I think this is more likely.
I can tell Oda had so much fun drawing this skirmish:
more key appreciation:
We don’t only get to see Gaban slicing the tower, but also the impact far down on the ground.
These panels aren’t even on the same page because of how long it fell. I like how it emphasizes Elbaf’s scale but also Gaban’s powers. Yet, I wonder if anyone noticed it. Like, an entire building breaking and crashing down should be heard far, right? And is the location where it landed important or was it just for scale? Hm…
this handle is a statement. Peak character design as always.
Goonko being annoyed by Killingham’s behavior is funny. Among these four, she seems to be the only one who cares about manners and “respect”. But I’m also curious about Killingham. Is falling asleep anywhere just a random quirk of his or is it because he’s constantly busy running around and can’t catch a break? I hope it’s the latter, at least it’s the vibe I got from his very first impression.
R.I.P. snail. (at least I think it died. otherwise I’ll have many questions)
speculation corner:
Uhm, most of my speculations were already in the main section. Maybe I’ll handle this differently next time. But I still have more to talk about. First of all: Zoro.
He got a lot of focus here, many reaction shots. And I can’t help but notice that he’s been incredibly tense, ever since they left Wano, more than usual. He’s constantly on edge, sweating, blood-thirsty and looking for a fight. Zoro is cautious when it comes to protecting his crewmates, but I can’t help but feel like he’s been even more cautious and serious recently, even anxious. I wanna say maybe this wasn’t intentional and is just how Oda uses to write him nowadays, but it’s Oda. He writes every scene, every panel, especially his main cast with a lot of attention and intention. Zoro usually doesn’t interfere in Luffy’s battles unless asked. He was really scared for Luffy’s life here. For Gaban this was just a test, but for Zoro this was serious. I hope this is all setup for Zoro breaking in the near future or having to learn some lesson. Until then, I’ll keep observing Zoro like a creature under a microscope and dissect him after every chapter.
Could this be future sight? I’m not saying it has to be, however, I hope he has it. And I hope Gaban teaches some of the straw hats some haki - like Usopp. ffs please can Usopp’s observation haki be acknowledged again, even once? It wasn’t since his display on Dressrosa. I can’t anymore.
Another completely unrelated speculation regarding Gaban I wanna leave here: Ripley might not be his only love and Colon might not be his only child. I think there’s a possibility it’s an open relationship and Gaban travels a lot to spend time with his family, ‘cause he FOR ONCE is a present father. Oh, and Gaban being the burnscar man is still on the table.
Imu gives his underlings magical powers, but what happens if a random person manually draws a summoning circle? Would it also work? When Brook was “summoned”, would it have actually worked if they’d drawn the correct one? Who would come out? A random God’s Knight, a random Elder, Imu, or something else? The devil itself? Davy Jones? I hope we get an answer to this. Like, I just wanna know if it’d work at all.
simp corner:
GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH GABAAAAAAN YEEEEEHAAAAAAAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE’S SO HOT! HE’S SO GORGEOUS! HE’S SO COOL! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH I COULD PUKE!
No fr he’s the entire reason I wanted to start with these reactions. I had the idea to start overanalyzing One Piece from chapter 1 and create long posts about specific characters or themes for a while now, but the decision to yap about the latest chapters as they come out only came in 1139 with fucking Gaban. I CAN’T SHUT UP ABOUT HIM. And I can’t get over this chapter. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE’S LEAVING ALREADY??? He blessed us with his presence for only two chapters and that’s it? How long will I have to wait till I see him again? This fr makes me fucking cry T-T I was so excited for him since the Oden flashbacks and am sooooooooooooooooo happy he’s the mystery man. I love axes as weapons and he wields TWO??? That goes so hard. I lololove his long, fluffy hair. The sunglasses look so cool. And now his old man design is so fucking cool as well. I love the braid in his beard so much. The old man fit looks great on him (and I can imagine Sanji rocking that one day just as well). Oda just knows how to do it. Bless him. And even in this chapter, I couldn’t help but get distracted by how prettily, beautifully, sexily, well he drew him here. Down to his fucking posture.

heck, I’m so in love with this old man. I will miss you so much, Gaban. I hope we’ll see you hang out with your family. (If even one of them dies I’m gonna shit on Oda’s desk)
I hope that, when they adapt this panel in the anime with the new art style, they’ll show off Scamrock’s beautiful hair from this angle. This is all I’m gonna say about him today. Also, uhm, is it just me, or is Sommers kinda… yk… ok I’m sorry I know I need help.
cover:
I don’t have much to say about Yamato’s cover story yet. Little girl O-Tama beating up evil guys is cool. Ulti and Page1 are probably going to join Yamato if he saves them. I’m not a big fan of these two, but Ulti’s dedication on this page is admirable. Two daggers hit her and three just barely grazed her, and she doesn’t care, she only cares about her brother’s safety. (I wouldn’t be surprised tho if she’s the one who got them into this situation lol)
*I wrote this before the release of chapter 1141. however, I read it by now and can promise the next reaction won't be this long. blame Gaban *I wish I'd know a way to scale down images somehow so they're not full-screen every time, but ig I have to live with this *I read the not official release of the chapter first to gather first impressions and have time to think on it, then I reread the official translation and edit if needed. I'm not posting these before the official release to avoid spoilers and mistranslations.

I wanted to rant about this to someone and I have nobody to so pardon me, you can ignore this
I have a lo to say about oda's work as someone who work in cinema, in animation cinema at that.
I hate how he's such an incredible story teller and has one of the best world building that I've ever seen but he can't desing characters.
Like Nami, I love Nami, she's so well written (too well that nobody seems to understand her at all) only to be reduce to boobs.
The same can be said about evry female character sadly.
Also evil female characters, they also follow the same patter of being more on the weird side of his designs and it saddens me a bit that he can only make variations of characters when it comes to vilians that you're not supposed to be attracted to.
This can be said for the men too but this whole post ts art style is a debate I have with "is it commercialism and the death of art under capitalism or is it that Oda genualy can't desing proper characters?"
But then again, pre ts style is also not that much better. Speaking of professionalism a studio looks how unique your style is and oda's old way of drawing his characters specially Robin or Ace were interesting and gave him something really unique and special (and that's on the socially attractive ones)
Now I'm looking at Nami copy n°10982 while all the men are getting beefier but at least they have more interesting and different designs.
It's something that makes me mad and it's not even the whole "no women in op has organs" way more of the "this same face sindrom can't go on for much longer" because at the end of the day his female characters tell us nothing about them wich tend to lead to people not caring for them or just going with "big boos=great character" because something really important in character design is that your character is clear and can be read from the siluette and acting and that is something no woman in op that's marketed as attractive has.
Sorry for the rant, character design is part of my job and if I were to present desings like oda has for his girls I would get fired and that got me thinking
Hope you have a great day :D
I agree mostly with this, but I personally think a lot of the damage was done because of Toei. Like, obviously Oda's style suffers from a lack of diversity when it comes to women and their sexualization, but Toei makes it SO much worse. Like- Right now I'm reading early OP (because I had just watched the anime and then caught up with the manga from Wano) and it was so much better back then. It got considerably worse with time but-- Yeah, I see what you mean.
#early op my beloved you will forever be remembered#nostalgic and beautiful artstyle with not that much of diversity but at least nami looked better#one piece

Straw Hat modern!AU v.1: Jobs and Random Bits of non-plot Headcanons
Yes I know Oda already gave a list and far be it from me to disagree with canon (/s) but hear me out
Jimbei - full-time activist, former soldier/bodyguard. Lorge. Still does work as a bouncer from time to time, this is how he meets Luffy.
(Does karate at the national level. Works out at Zoro's gym, teaches classes sometimes.)
Brook - musician, naturally. Classically trained, accidentally achieved popular fame after the band he was in with his old buddies for fun was scouted out. Lost his bandmates. :( Was depressed for years and just tuned pianos and guitars and other instruments until the Straw Hats brought joy to his life again.
Franky - freelance handyman. Is an engineer, has a engineering degree and certification, but no firm will hire him because he refuses to wear formal clothes (main client is the local university, they asked him only to work at night to avoid students and claims plausible deniability if he chooses not to wear shoes on his own job sites) but he doesn't mind his lot in life because fuck 'em anyway also because trauma and also he's in love with one of the profs
Robin - university professor, teaches history/linguistics/historical linguistics/archaeology. Has like four PhDs. Was wrapped up in some shadiness in Central America while a grad student, but does such high-quality work and is in love with her building's handyman that no one tries to get her in trouble for it
(Robin and Franky meet and bond over keeping the fucking ancient anthropology building both up to livable standards and eligible for the national heritage register. They talk A Lot about historical building materials and methods)
((Note I said 'up to livable standards' and not 'up to code'. Franky's nickname is short for 'Frankenstein' for what he's done to the building's wiring, though somehow it still works))
Chopper - third year med student at 15. Already accepted into the residency program Law is an attending at. Also, he has his driver's license now!! He's the DD for the Straw Hat crew when they go out to bars, and is also self-appointed booze coordinator and hits the brakes for people when he senses alcohol poisoning coming on. Not even Whitebeard Himself can argue when little Dr. Tony gives his super-serious little disapproving pout.
(No, a 15yo cannot legally drive at night, much less operate a car full of drunkards. No one tells him this because he takes the responsibility for the well-being of his friends so seriously, and also no one gives a shit, and also everyone else is drunk anyway.)
Sanji - sous-chef at Baratie (I know, I know, shocker) which is next door to Zoro's gym. He takes classes at the university so that he'll be able to run his own restaurant one day.
(If he finds the FUCKING SHITHEAD who's drawing that Sora, Warrior of the Sea-inspired comic in the school newspaper someone's gonna have to fake an alibi to get him out of murder charges. Even if he does approve of Germa 66's ugly designs and cries over Sora's successful escape and loving words to her lost son)
Usopp - physics major, art minor. Draws a weekly comic for the school newspaper called The Adventures of Sniper King. Picked up boxing due to high school requirements, works out at Zoro's gym.
(Yes it's him. He's got a yellow stripe painted down his back due to the vitriol Sanji spews at his pseudonym daily. He really didn't mean for it to take off! Sanji told them all his story once and Usopp was heartbroken because he lost his mom too and one day he got an itch and he drew a comic about what he thought Sora'd say to Sanji, or what he thought Banchina might say to him, or some weird combination--and then sent it instead of the next installment of Sniper King to his editor ON ACCIDENT and PEOPLE WANTED MORE and HE'S SO SORRY AND HE'S SO SCARED. SANJI'S GONNA KILL HIM AND USOPP WILL DESERVE IT)
((Sanji condemns him into being busboy at Baratie for a month and refuses to speak to him for three days. But he also gives him spicy ginger desserts every night for a week, because Usopp's Sora is truer to life than the original Sora in terms of the love she embodies, and because Stealth Black's rumored escape is shown in the light of triumph. Sanji could hear her in the monologue of Sora's thoughts to her son when she learned he'd escaped Germa 66's clutches. How proud she was that the circumstances of his birth and life hadn't chained him down forever. It was the first time since the age of 9 that he could clearly remember what she had sounded like because, whether through pure miracle or the shared sympathy of orphan-hood, Usopp had gotten her voice exactly right, and it soothed something old and hurting in Sanji to hear it.))
Nami - business/finance, computer science double major. She REALLY wanted to study geography and GIS systems but her family needs the money so she's tilted her dreams--she's going to build the most precise geographic information system in the WORLD and market it to rich assholes while "losing it" to low-income thieves in need.
Stole 50% of her college tuition and negotiated down the other half in a meeting the bursar's office can't actually quite remember fully? But it's their signatures on the papers.
Zoro - business major. Yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds. No he is not passing any of his classes. But Kuina had been determined to inherit the dojo and keep it flourishing, even if her dad didn't think a woman could. Then she died; and Shimotsuki-sensei died when Zoro was in high school; and now Zoro has two dear friends' dreams on his shoulders, and damn his lack of an MBA or any common sense but he will succeed. Sanji, Nami, and Jimbe are helping.
He did rename the place, from just 'Shimotsuki Dojo' to Kuina's Asskickers, and opened it to all sports. All classes and all tournaments are co-ed, all ages. He tried to get "ASSKICKER" on the gym's competition uniforms/gi but some of his students are toddlers so that wouldn't fly, so he uses 2001 instead. People think it's the founding year and get very confused when the gym is technically 50+years old; 2001 = the number of fights Zoro lost to Kuina.
(Nami asks him why he didn't use "KUINA"; Zoro looks at her funny. "But that's not [male student example]'s name? Why would I put that on his back? Do you want people to get confused??")
((He does have Kuina's name stitched into his gi))
Luffy - biology major. HEAR ME OUT. Garp insisted he go to college for at least a semester and while still an undecided liberal arts major, Luffy discovered a whole BUILDING FILLED WITH COOL BUGS!!! AND PEOPLE GO OUT AND FIND THEM?? AND BRING THEM BACK!! THAT'S A JOB???? SO COOL!!!
So yeah. Technically he's on the road to become an entomologist, but is struggling due to his undiagnosed (but incredibly obvious) AuDHD and a lack of care for statistics (and math in general) and research writing (and reading/writing in general). Robin, Chopper, and Usopp are working HARD to get him to the general area of passing. Luffy also is getting a minor in Portuguese (which is his first language) because he plans on exploring the Amazon Rainforest looking for cool beetles when he graduates.
Ace - fire fighter with shady connections. (more later?)
Sabo - activist with much shadier connections. (more later?)
#jesus this turned out longer than i meant#op#one piece#opla#if you'd like#this is version 1#i'll write out v2 at a later date

Out of curiosity, why do you hate One Piece? I know that the character designs for the women Aren’t Great and Usopp also has some unfortunate design choices, but other than that I haven’t heard many major complaints about the show/manga. However, I haven’t watched/read one piece so all the info I have is secondhand
Ok so this is my subjective opinion as a person who used to be absolutely obsessed with One Piece as a child. I still read it when I find the energy to do so and I've read up to volume 100. The reasons I dislike OP now are
Oda's misogyny, part 1: As you said, women's designs are Not Great. They've gotten boobier and more and more sexually exaggerated as the series goes on imo. OP does have cool female characters and cool female character designs, but when Oda wants to draw a conventionally beautiful female character, he just draws variations of the same woman. When it comes to conventionally beautiful female characters, I also struggle to tell apart who is who because a lot of them have the same face (and same body) syndrome.
Oda's misogyny, part 2: A lot of this comes up in extra-textual materials such as the reader Q&A sections he does in the manga volumes. I don't have these volumes with me at hand so I'm only paraphrasing what I remember but he's said stuff about how he draws OP for boys first and foremost, and how female fans just don't "get it" the way male fans do. This honestly broke my heart as I was the biggest OP obsessive when I was in primary school. I loved OP as much as any boys, but my passion is diminished just because I'm a girl? I cannot respect someone who thinks like that. (and unfortunately a lot of male creatives in Japan have said stuff like that). There's also some gender-bend art he drew that was pretty insulting. Also the time he drew OP characters as old people where male characters got to look like proper grandpas while female characters weren't allowed to show age. It's all so boring.
Racism, part 1: Yes you're right about Usopp's design (I love him though...). Also Oda does a weird thing where whenever he draws coloured artworks, he paints all the characters' skin in the exact same orange-pink tone. No one in OP manga has dark skin afaik because everyone has the same skin tone. I've always found that strange, especially when characters have all sorts of different hair colours and design quirks, somehow skin tone is the one thing he refuses to diversity. The anime improves on this at least by giving different characters different skin tones.
Racism, part 2: I hate that they retconned Nico Robin to be light skinned in the anime. Give us our brown skinned Robin back. Fuck.
Homophobia and transphobia: The usage of the word "okama" is a controversial one and I'm not in a position to speak on it as I'm neither a gender non-conforming man nor a transgender woman, but I don't think it's appropriate to use it so much in a manga meant for children. I understand that some queer people in Japan do self identify as okama, and Oda uses "I have friends who are okama" as an excuse but I still think the liberal usage of okama in OP a bad idea. Also one time Sanji got stranded on an island called Kamabakka ("full of okama") Kingdom and the joke is that all these caricaturized ugly cross-dressing men (?) want Sanji and he is grossed out by them.
The art style. I used to love Oda's simple, cartoony art. And it got more and more complicated and maximalist and again, modern day OP gives me a headache because it's like everything is going on eveywhere (all the time). That's my personal taste of course. I just find it to be too much. Also this ties in with my previous point of "too many characters" - new OP characters look more and more grotesque and monstrous because Oda needs to introduce a character who looks distinguishable from all the thousands of characters that appeared before (unless this new character is a conventionally attractive woman, then she looks the same). I just think it's ugly… I don't like it.
I also think it has gone on for far too long. It's gotten so sprawling and complicated that I don't find it fun anymore. Too many characters and too much history to keep track of. Whenever I read a modern OP volume it kind of gives me a headache while I try to understand who is where and doing what for what reason. I'm not invested enough to pour in the energy needed to keep track of everything anymore.
Nationalism?: I find it kind of cringe whenever a Japanese artist wants to insert their own version of Japan into their fantasy work (eg. Hiizuru in Attack on Titan) because those Fantasy Japan countries tend to be portrayed as a cool awesome place where you will find many strong honorable people yay <3 and I'm like "okay, Narcissist". The Wano-kuni arc felt so self-congratulatory. It was a bit painful.
This one is just petty stuff that's entirely my taste thing again but even as a child I found some of Oda's writing traits to be cringe lmao. Some of these attack names are so dumb (Zoro's onigiri, I get that it's a pun, doesn't work for me lol), and how different characters have to have their own weird laughs. Also OP never got me invested enough in the character of Ace so the whole Enies Lobby arc just bored me and sapped a lot of the interest I still had in OP. I just don't care anymore.
You asked a simple question and I'm sorry I wrote a long ass post but like I said, I used to be a massive fan so I just have... a lot of Thoughts. Thanks for asking.

Hi! So interesting question! Since luffy has gear 5 already, what will he look like if he had a gear 6? Don’t you think that’s awesome!?
And another question!
What’s your opinion of zoluffy, sanjzoro, or lulaw?
I don’t ship these btw but I respect your opinions!
Hiya @superson1cspeed!
Oda let Luffy unleash the Gear 5th in Wano and this revealed a bunch of stuff. I like this whole concept a lot and there are a few reasons:
In chapter 1044 is said: "The user is said to become the "Warrior of Liberation", bringing joy and freedom to those around them, and this fruit's power being described as "the most ridiculous power in the world". So, this form was literally made for Luffy because he is pretty much the definition of "seeking freedom" and he indeed brings joy for his close ones (except when his shenanigans are too much for his crew mates and they punch him *laughs*). It's a fact that Luffy has saved pretty much each of his crewmember from a bigger turmoil and made them see the good in bad so he truly deserve to become one of the strongest in OP universe.

Then the foreshadowing around this gear is amazing. Skypiea became even more important storywise since there are the first mentions of the Sun God (and other important stuff too such as Robin deciphering poneglyph). But on top of that it's that little silly panel where Luffy dances like there is no tomorrow like he always does and then his little silhouette drawing alongside the bonfire and not only that, also Usopp drumming next to him (just like his heart beats in Gear 5) that was perhaps the biggest hint of this new form which didn't seem to be big but became very crucial. Not only that bur already back in Arlong Park arc as well, we could also ponder whether Luffy rising from the dark and collapsed building while the sun shines on him was intentionally foreshadowing (probably yes because Oda-sensei is the master of hiding hints).

During the Gear 5 the animation/drawing style is nice in general. It seems that this was inspired from the old hand drawn cartoons (such as Tom&Jerry etc.), which is great since in general One Piece has become more and more serious. Of course not all the time, because there are still running gags but compared to the Pre-timeskip time much less. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it just tells that there is so much in the plot that Oda needs to pinch on some stuff. People 'been craving for pre-timeskip shenanigans and this brought back the glimpse of silliness this storywise heavy arc truly needed

What comes to the Gear 6 speculation, it is truly hard to say how Luffy will look like when he masters it but at least it is possible that this will be revealed in the final arc, perhaps in the final battle. My guess is that he'll face something incredibly strong (probably Blackbeard since they met in Jaya and Blackbeard has been active part of the plot but Oda-sensei can surprise us though). Perhaps the battle will push the whole crew to it physical and mental limits (just like Ace's death pushed Luffy to the edge) and therefore it awakens. Let's hope Oda keeps this drawing style in future too.

What comes to the second question, I'm not shipping Luffy with anyone currently. More thoughts written in following posts: Random ponders about Luffy and romance and Who do you ship Luffy with (ask) but although I do enjoy him interacting with his friends, I can't imagine him falling in love in canon.
I actually did ship Luffy and Vivi short time during Alabasta and still think they could have at least a little potential but in general, I think Luffy views his nakamaships very platonically and he seems to treat his crew mates pretty equally (showing physical affection such as hugging openly and driving them crazy at times with his randomness). No idea how much he has heard about birds and bees when he was a kid (well he spent time with grown up pirates so maybe some) but it seems he doesn't show much open interest to those stuff in general (in my opinion).
Well, there has been times such as in Alabasta when Nami tossed the Shiawase Punch and the guys reacted and then again he didn't turn into stone when Hancock used Mero Mero Mellow. Oda gave us the answer in SBS volume 54 and replied pretty simply: reacting alone and going nosebleed and stuff would be out of character for Luffy and earlier when he saw Nami's bare body, he was accompanied by Usopp and took probably influence from him (just like in anime Chopper also had a nosebleed or other reactions seeing it all despite him being the most innocent character in One Piece [x]).
So, it's pretty hard to say who would Luffy fall in love with since his potential crush could be also someone not inside the crew (such as Vivi, Hancock or after the Film Red Uta). What's even more ironical, that Luffy has pretty much gathered a "harem of princesses" although he hasn't even tried to charm her. They just like his charm and get well along with him. Oda even drew Reiju sucking poison out of him and that's probably most "intimate" and close he has ever been to opposite sex so far.

Like written previously, I think it's Luffy's carefree nature and hunger for adventure what makes me think of why he'd enjoy being "single and free", One Piece is after all all about chasing dreams and especially for Luffy, finding the ultimate freedom. Well relationship doesn't necessarily mean he'd have to give up on everything but it would sure mean to do some compromises. So in conclusion: Luffy might find the love of his life later or he will enjoy being single.
What comes comes to ZoSan/SanZo, I kinda see them as well more as good friends than lovers but this opinion might be heavily influenced on me being shipping Sanji x Nami and Zoro x Robin ever since the pre-timeskip-time. Since shipping is all about liking two character's chemistries and searching for clues in the story that could support it, I think we all readers can look for our preferences.
Although I don't ship Luffy with anyone (except meat, because MeatLoaf is life *laughs*) I don't honestly have anything against anyone shipping any character with someone as long as the shipping stays respectful (not bashing others and intentionally bullying others, that's toxic :s ). Also, even if the story didn't end up the way we wanted, there is always a possibility to imagine the ending one wants, that's why we fans are able to make stuff, for fellow fans to enjoy whatever they like ;)

hi, i just read all of ur posts tagged as misqnon's one piece liveblogging and it was so much fun T-T. im here to rant about one piece and im sorry.
i really love seeing people react to content i am caught up with and hold close to my heart.
i got into the 800s in the anime and stopped watching, took a break and then read the manga up to around 1060. but last month i decided to read the whole thing from the beginning and it is genuinely SO WORTH IT.
after u have caught up completely its super rewarding to go back and look at previous chapters bc its constant "oh my god look what was foreshadowed here??" and "now i understand the context behind this!!!" and "this interaction is so much more meaningful now that i know their relationship!!". yes it did take me a whole month of nearly nonstop reading to catch back up but i have 0 regrets.
wano and the arc after it are both super fun and interesting and i think ur gonna love it. the lore is crazy. i hope u dont see any spoilers bc going into it completely blind will probably be way more exciting, especially with the most recent arc since its kinda suspenseful and mysterious,,.
anyways thats all i have to say how do you end these things.. take care!!
AAAAA ANON THIS IS SUCH A FUN MESSAGE TO RECIEVE THANK YOU...
I ended up talking a lot so I'll put this under a cut lol
I used to be the person who said I would never watch one piece 😭😭 I've been into anime since I was like 12 and I'm almost 24 now (fuck . That's like half my life) and obviously it's always been on my radar but I always thought it was 1. Too popular 2. Too Long 3. Hated how oda draws women lmao so I was fine ignoring it and only knowing the basics from just Being On The Internet
I think sometime early on I caved and attempted to watch it- I got to alabasta and stopped bc the anime pacing wasn't doing it for me (though I liked it up until then, but didn't LOVE it)
cut to high-school where a couple of my good friends liked it but we never really talked about it, it was a lifelong interest for one of them bc he'd started reading it on like 4th grade
Well I'm still friends with them (shoutout to sam and seb) and they convinced me to watch one piece film red with them in like July or August of last year bc they were showing me the songs and I, ado fan bc I'm a retired weaboo and a vocaloid Stan, was like "haha that sounds like ado" and they went "IT IS!!!!??" so I had to watch it for her.
again, I was like oh this is fun I like this :^) but no IMMEDIATE interest, more of a passive thing... until the live action came out a month or so later and I watched it just because and DAMN I FELL IN LOVE FAST
I went back to the anime and rewatched the beginning, then skipped back to alabasta where I had left off years and years ago and now I'm Here 🧍
I watched up through part of dressrosa before I started reading the manga, and now I'm doing that while watching certain episodes of just the parts I really wanna see animated
It's been. So Fun
I am now that person who's like Hey You Should Watch One Piece. I get it now. I so get it lmao. And you know the weirdest part is that with it being divided up into arcs like it is I find myself thinking it really doesn't feel that long!?!? Am I insane,
anyways. It's been a while since I was in an active fandom or even in a fandom at all - ESPECIALLY such a big one!?! (I was in college for 4 years and Busy).
but it's. Crazy. I'm writing fanfics and joining discord servers and I've never done that before. it's been very fun and rewarding tbh...I don't like a lot of things about oda and aspects he included and ofc one piece isn't perfect or unproblematic but it IS a really awesome epic of a story about friendship and found family and anti authority and its just.

I'm also a person who's always loved reaction videos or just even seeing otherppl react to things I like so I RELATE AND IM SO GLAD I CAN BE THAT FOR U...
I'm ngl as I've been reading I've been wanting to look up some old one piece forums dated the time certain reveals happened bc I want to see how people felt as this shit came out holy Shit....
it's additionally funny bc this blog is about 10 years old and has amassed a decent amount of followers over the years who were just into some of the other random stuff I've been into but I know a fair amount of them were thinking we were on the same page of not being into one piece and now here I am. Ruining that. And with the pervert character as my favorite no less. lmao SORRYYYY YALL <3
I'll leave u with this message I sent into the discord I share with some friends the other day, none of which really watch op, when asked to explain something about the show. In fact, I think the reasoning for this message was BECAUSE I was explaining to a friend just how much oda foreshadows things!! jinbei, kaido, haki, sanjis backstory, ALL being mentioned by name or referenced DECADES/YEARS BEFORE APPEARING ON SCREEN...HUNDREDS OF CHAPTERS APART....I could rant on more but I'll stop for now.

thank u for the message and feel free to dm me to talk about this silly show anytime bc its sunken its claws into me 😭
#ive been saying since like thriller bark how excited i am to get caught up andYea. its even stronger now#misqnon's one piece liveblog#im going to be going insane as we enter wci and posting more reactions most likely so.#hope u emjoy that 👍#microphone effect#replies#asks#march anon

Hello, sorry i bother you again but it was close to halloween already so i have some new idea again and it Mori's simp reader again too.
So today i want to request snippet 15 year old Dazai X 15 year old Mori's simp reader (platonic) when halloween Dazai have some plan in his head and he want some help from his suicide buddy (Mori's simp reader)
Dazai know reader and Chuya have crush on each other but reader too dumb to know Chuya have crush on her too so Dazai have something in his mind. Two day before halloween Dazai ask reader how to do makeup and he borrow her makeup and her white dress too (reader and Dazai was same size even reader taller than Dazai a little bit). In that night after Chuya finish work at port mafia and when he walk back to his apartment he see....puppy. Chuya have soft spot for dogs so he go play with her, but when he come near puppy she run away when Chuya follow her. Puppy was disapper in abandoned house Chuya think it weird now so he going to turn away but he see puppy again this time she with girl who wear white dress, girl start to stand up slowly Chuya think this girl is reader so he tell reader to stop prank on him already but than Chuya remember reader have short hair but this girl have long hair. This girl start to turn to Chuya slowly, Chuya finally see her face he scream and run away(yeah, Chuya scared of ghost like Kunikida) this girl follow him too. Chuya run to street he see reader eating candy beside her motorbike (can you add Chuya react here) after reader know what happen she offer to take Chuya to his apartment (again can you add his react here) and here are the same ghost story Chuya tell in 'Hot Spring' scenario
In the morning Dazai bring makeup and white dress back to reader, reader ask Dazai if he dress as a ghost yesterday and go prank on Chuya (can you add Dazai react here) Reader being overprotective to Dazai like alway so she tell Dazai she not going to tell Chuya but before she leave Dazai ask reader to help something reader tell Dazai she going to help him everything. Dazai ask reader to help him steal his video game back from Koyo, even reader love Dazai so much as a friend but she was also scared of Koyo even Koyo was reader's mentor best friend she still scared of her but Dazai tell reader if she help him he going to give her pen Mori use to work. reader being Mori's simp she is, she agree to help Dazai. Dazai tell reader both of them going to disguise as a monster because in port mafia they rumors about monster in halloween, after that 2 days in halloween both of them disguise themself as a monster by Reader carry Dazai on her back (reader stronger than Dazai) and they cover themself with cloths. Reader was very scared and Dazai be normal as he is, Koyo's subordinate was check on Koyo office when she see monster (Dazai and reader) she pointing gun at them but Dazai make bone break sound and he also talk in very creepy sound untill Koyo's subordinate scared and run away. Both of them go in Koyo's office they try find Dazai's video game well Dazai mess around he use Koyo's makeup draw on wall reader try to stop him but it too late reader know it was end of her life. Dazai ask reader what will she do in halloween if they finish steal his video game back, reader said she just going back to her apartment, Dazai tell reader maybe she can meet his new friends (Ango and Oda) reader said she afaid to meet new people and she also don't think she deserve new friends too Dazai comfort her and he tell her he understand her. Finally reader see Dazai's video game so she steal back but....it was bad luck for reader, someone open the door it was Koyo active her ability with her subordinates. Reader run for her life while Dazai laugh on her back, Koyo and her subordinates run after them. Dazai tell reader to hide when Dazai hear footsteps walk away he finally get out of reader back. Reader ask if this video game is rare and why he want it back so much, Dazai quiet for awhile before he tell her he don't have time so much and he didn't hang out with reader like before. He tell reader he want to spend more time with reader so he plan this, reader tell Dazai he don't have to plan anything he just ask her and she going to hang out with him everytime because he is her best friend (can you add Dazai react here?) Dazai said he think it time to go home already but....both of them forget something important they forget Koyo have subordinate who can control gravity. reader see red glow when she look up, she see Chuya flying on her head, Chuya scared the shit out of hef (can you add Dazai and Chuya react here too?) Koyo scold Dazai and reader from hours, she also punish them by make both of them clean her office, Koyo know reader's mentor not going to punish reader too so she bring reader to Mori instead. Dazai being good friend he is he leave all cleaning duty to reader while he run away.
And this is how halloween night both Dazai and reader end when they both still 15 year old (Chuya also 15 year old in that time too)
Thank you for write my request!

Chapter 1047 — The skies above the capital
Nearing the end of the fight, which is nice.
I also appreciate the nods to Momo’s growth as a future leader. Although we’ve seen him act as the eight-year old boy he is, he has also grown so much.

Yes, he is still a kid. And kids are selfish. They want their mum and little sister to come with them.
But that step away? That shuddering determination as he steps away from his mother/childhood and towards his retainers/future? That half-shaded panel where he moves from memory to present?
Something is also wonderfully wrong with Toki’s hand in the lower right corner. Can’t really parse the perspective.
And favourite page of the chapter:
Love the way Kaido is, like Luffy, also a proficient at using the other dude’s powers against him. See how he smashes Luffy into the rubber ground! See how he uses the upstroke to get in a perfect hit! See the futility of Luffy’s tiny totty arms against his BIG BAD CLUB! And of course the confirmation that Roger didn’t have any fruit powers, just ridiculous amounts of haki.

No idea what happens here. It looks like Luffy should be slashed to pieces; I’ll chalk it up to rushes drawing and/or bad perspective.

We always return to the smiles. The forced mirth of the SMILE-fruit, Luffy’s eternal sunshine, the laugh at the end of the line. And here people are laughing and smiling because they know that although they may die, they die for a better future; they die for their families, fighting an invading horde.

The dramatic art style used on Orochi is cool. Oda’s inability to give women agency, not cool.
If Hiyori doesn’t defeat him, but someone else suddenly appears (like Sanji who conveniently woke up or Denjiro who’s been missing for a long time), I will be cross. Not surprised, because Oda and female fighters hasn’t had a good run so far, but still very cross.

The perspective here is really cool! Kaido, in the lower third of the panel, looks tiny and insignificant against the Hand of God that bears down on him from the heavens. Now with HAKI(TM) as he himself pointed out earlier in the chapter. Luffy does listen! Not often, but sometimes!
And speaking of, Luffy is still keeping his grip on Kaido, stretched from heaven to hell.
All right chapter, although the fight could end about now. I give it the Hand of God and the smile of Kaido.
