tl;dr was originally meh on this for reasons that really aren't fair, ultimately wound up enjoying it well enough to pick up s2, but wouldn't necessarily recommend (especially if you'll be bothered by the fact that it's Very slow)

full review:

you know what i think for the first half of the season i really didn't give this show a fair shake. based on a skim of its summary and the fact that it had the battle royale tag, i went in thinking it would be structurally similar to shuumatsu no valkyrie (which i'd recently binged and enjoyed immensely)

and that sort of battle royale, a tournament between a roster of op heroes, does seem to be coming up. but unlike snv, ishura doesn't dump us straight into the tournament. there's a whole lot of buildup to it, in fact...

the whole first season is buildup for the tournament to choose a hero, which isn't necessarily a bad thing! just isn't what i expected, so i was a bit on the fence for a while

ultimately though i think i did enjoy this series. it's heavy on the action (and gore) but most of the fight scenes are pretty banging, and the cast is full of fairly interesting characters (many of whom are not long-lived lmao)

some of the characters are so cool, in fact, that it feels like a shame to not get more time with them. the pacing didn't feel bad or anything, but it's a very, for lack of a better word, scattered series. not in a negative way, though, because the relatively huge cast provides a wider look at the world. it's just a lot of build-up and so far not much payoff (but clearly it's the start of a longer thing, so i guess to me that's fine)

the worldbuilding to me is by far the strongest point of the series, even stronger than the action sequences. there are some elements of it that i really love, like the naming conventions ("taren the guarded" "dakai the magpie" "alus the star runner" and so on, instead of family surnames) and the word arts magic

the (fairly early) reveal that not only humans and wyverns but even these... constructs? that seemed like mechanical golems? could use this word arts magic was fantastic to me, and i hope we get to see more interesting things of that nature as we continue

ishura has had a second season announced and even though i was a bit lukewarm on it for half this season, i do think i'll continue. if only because the cast is absurdly stacked and i go where my favorite voice actors go lol

i would still say it isn't exactly exceptional as a fantasy action series, but does do some interesting things with worldbuilding that i don't think i've seen much of before (but i also haven't watched fantasy extensively yet, so don't have too much to compare)

dakai my beloved freak i miss u already umu it was such a trip hearing hoshi souichirou voice a character like dakai though lol i mean i'm sure he's done many before but i more associate him with darling momo revale (and more recently saiyuki swk) so this was. new. and a treat

I just started watching Andromeda from the beginning and its so much fun! Im only on S1 but Trance is literally my new favorite character, shes the best 😭💖. Theres something so affirming about this kind young-at-heart alien girl being, like, the most powerful being in the universe/A FREAKING SUN.

Can you elaborate on some of her deisng choices? I love all her little butterfly clips and the different hair pieces she adds through the seasons! Since it changes I like to imagine her picking out her different color extensions and tying her little ponytails 🥺

Those little touches would've been added by hair and/or costumes in consultation with Laura, so while I had veto power they weren't something I really contributed to. That said, I loved them too and I think she did exactly what you imagined. I believe Trance really enjoyed being incarnate. Young-at-heart is a very apt description.

I was taking about a freind about natlan and we both said that natlan feels almost like it was rushed or thought too poorly even if the company had years to run the plot and years to make the nation it felt so thrown put together with no thought.

We also mention now a lot of natlan as a whole kinda…is a bit of well it’s very stereotypes is the gentler way of putting it. A lot of the inspo for each characfers either miss-match certain inspo or yk the skin…as a whole was an issue

I also personally feel like I started to play three and four soon- second hsr the third came is Withernf waves and an upcoming call Nikki infinity I believe in Dec- I might be stretching myself more but I feel the reason I play either wuwa is combat but also lowkey rewards are much mroe generous. I’m honestly playing hsr jusy for Sunday and nikki bc fashion gatcha is so cute

I’m not sure if anyone feels this way but natlan and it’s characfer feel like their kinda like if you want better exploration for natlan you kinda have to pull for these characters to make it easier and and force to pull for that just feels too forceful?

I never really cared nor had enough interest in the characfers ngl but I think it for me personally it always was because how I felt when natlan first launch and it kinda just went on as the patches kept getting release- my issue with the characfer skin, inspo, deisng etc I think seeps into more and I’m more so hoping that the patches over

A massive issue I have with Natlan is that I feel as though a lot of the characters true potential is locked behind constellations.

I pulled for Chasca recently because I'm honestly in love with her and I'll gladly claim her as my wife. I use her frequently but.

But.

I feel as though the game is forcing me to get her to at least c2 and that's just straight up unfair. It's common knowledge that Genshin is Hoyo's cash cow meanwhile HSR is the passion project, but it's still somehow so slimey to me. I get it, gacha games are here to make money and at the end of the day they are a business, it's literally their job to do so. But Genshin has been really pushing as of late I feel like.

Also, I've looked at the leaked gameplay for Mauvika and Citlali and I have to say, Mauvika, to me personally, looks less like a Genshin Impact character and more like a Zenless Zone Zero character. This isn't necessarily a complaint as I've seen some ZZZ gameplay and I have some friends who love that game, but due to the previous world building that Genshin has established I just do not think that it fits all that well in Teyvat. I could be wrong for the ZZZ comment though because I have never played the game nor do I really wish to, so feel free to correct me on that.

I also feel as though there's a certain air of grandiose suspense just missing. I was at the edge of my seat for the whole Fontaine Archon quest and while I liked the Natlan one too, it just pales in comparison to Fontaine.

I don't know what all of their hobbies are yet, so I'll say the ones I do know

Skipper likes to write songs! Although that does eventually become his full time career, it was, for the most part just a hobbie. Though other hobbies can include cooking and gardening (with his dad, who loves gardening)

Dusty is an artist full time, loves drawing comics or street art, whenever she's not doing hero work she is usually out with her friends spray painting walls and whatnot

Orca really likes to read! In his free time (if he ever allows himself one) he likes to read a lot! He mostly like either science books or fantasy!

Magical Girl Outfits

 That moment when you are now rewriting one of your posts since you deleted everything. ^_^’’’

Yes! Hi! Hello! Yesterday I wrote about Magical Girl outfits, and since that’s still fresh in my brain, here I am writing it again but with more because I want to.

Okay! Headcanons lets goo! Its sorta long, and since I learned how to do this (kinda?) on PC I added a cut since thats a thing I can do. 

Okie dokie

-On the above GIF, we see our lovely lady Kyoko getting all dressed to kick butt. 13/10, would die for. Its a common thing in Magical girl franchises to “color code” their magical girls.  If your new to Magical girls or just curious as to what I mean by that here we go.

--Red Magical girls tend to have fiery personality, such as Kyoko. Likewise they often have fire related powers or themes. We also have this within Precure (or Glitter Force,) With Akana Hino or her Americanized name, Kelsey.  Firey in personality, firey in battle as she can literally yeet balls of flame at you. Also Sailor Mars! She shoots a flaming arrow! And she is also a bit hot headed. 

--Blue Magical girls! They are usally calm and collected, a miss know it all, a class president... All of those... Yeah. Blue magical girls are usually big on waifu terms. A few of my favorites is Chloe (Reika Aoiki) in Smile Pretty Cure! (I love that season okay dont fight me) and Sailor Mercury! (I love that her name is literally Cure Blue in the Italian version. Much creativity)

--Yellow magical girls! Usually  happy, or shy.... Honestly yellow magical girls are kinda the free pass. You want an original character in a precure series that isn’t like other girls from other series? Make her yellow. (At least as it seems in precure,)

--Green...what now?? Finding a green magical girl is definitely more difficult then everyone else. My favorite green magical girl is definitely Lettuce from Tokyo mew mew. shes a queen, but her outfit is hideous. Like, w h a t were they doing? her hair...... ahhh! We also have Sailor Jupiter in this category. (high key underrated, i love my green gals)

--Purple! Mysterious! wise! queens of the hair flip! psychic powers! straight cut bangs! angular outfit designs! may or may not be a model! Yeah. Its definitely what you first think when you get these girls. I love Cure Macaroon for this category, I would die for her. 

--Pink! They the leader. The protagonist. Happy go lucky, can do no wrong. ‘nough said. Purple has a crush on them, friends with blue. Am I wrong? usually, no.

Okay so back to outfits. 

-When I was writing the above, I noticed something about kyoko’s outfit. Its very similar to the clothing she was wearing before, right? I mean like the shirt goes down and opens up, the dress goes down and opens up... the shorts.. Curious.

-In Madoka Magica, (PMMM) We see Our girl design her own outfit before even becoming a magical girl! (This could be the time loops like subconsciously making it the same before, so maybe she didn’t deisng it, but still, she made her outfit,) would that mean every magical girl can design her own outfit?  If so..

-Magical girls who know NOTHING about clothing. Every time their outfit is different, trying to make it nice like their teammates, suspiciously looking like the newest outfit their favorite pop star wore. 

-Magical girl who just wears PJs. (hahaa, im looking at you Nemurin)

-Or as mentioned, would it kinda be like how it was in Magical Girl Raising Project? Just little dressing rooms they can design and transform into?

-A Magical girl team who doesn’t care for identities, who just take their uniforms and color codes their skirts to their powers and jackets? Would be interesting!

-What if their little magical guide designs their outfits? A goth girl has to wear pink because in the guides land, pink is the symbol for warriors. She manages to sneak in some dark eyeliner, much to their distress.

-A magical girl who cant decide what to wear so just does a jumpsuit with whatever pattern they like. Maybe like Ladybugs outfit from Miraculous Ladybug?

-Magical girls designing their outfits after animals! Perhaps acting like those animals subconsciously, the magic a bit too strong. (Hey, thats like Ichigo from Tokyo Mew mew!)

I was thinking about doing analysis’s on different outfits for magical girls. Would anyone be interested in that? If so let me know and suggest some outfits?

Since I deleted my entire blog somehow, (I swear Im sleep deprived it wasn't on p u r p o s e) I’ll be rewriting a few things for the next few days as well as adding on to those topics. Send me anything you would like me to write about!
