唐汉霄/tang hanxiao - 再见深海/goodbye deep sea (original version) (ai generated shiwang version with lyric translation) this is actually the ending theme song of a really good animated movie that premiered around the same time of three-body. what brought my attention to the song was that a fan used ai program and generated a version of the song with zhang luyi and yu hewei's voices, so it's like wang miao and shi qiang sang this song together. the lyric is also very very very shiwang. i literally cried when i heard the shiwang version of the song for the first time.

赵雷/zhao lei - 我记得/i remember this is actually a very popular bgm for any kind of loving relationship, a song about the reincarnation of two people. this song is really shiwang fans hoping that they can eventually spend a lifetime together. last line of the lyric says "come and hug me quickly. i finally found you" which is really fitting for the hug scene.

家家/Jiajia - 尘埃/dust i've posted about this song here with lyric translation. it's a bgm three-body's official social media picked for a shiwang video on douyin.

火鸡朋友/turkey friends, this is an original song written and recorded by the fans for shiwang. it really shows how much people love shiwang. i kinda never thought a middle aged chinese ship would get this kind of dedicated treatment from the fans, but shiwang did it.

SONG: can you hear me? - it's really hard for me to pick one favourite song (i have a playlist with his entire catalogue & it's 8h long), but i decided to choose this one because it's really special to me. it's so simple & yet it makes me want to cry every single time i hear it... the lyrics + his voice + piano...

when i heard you sing, it changed everything indeed...

MOVIE: you're not gonna be surprised here. vivo is my favourite animated movie & has the best plot & the best songs & it's sad & i actually wrote the entire essay here & there again, so just go & read if you want!

MUSICAL: as much as i love hamilton, in the heights owns my heart. why? because this story has everything it needs: amazing music, real characters, it's sad & it makes you cry but at the same time it gives you... hope. i cannot even explain how much it means to me, in the heights is my adopted child, ok? if you're not bored yet, go read this essay that i wrote after seeing it live!

TV SHOW: once again, no one's surprised... freestyle love supreme is literally everything to me. i could pick any other show, but this one has a very special place in my heart & as much as i love lin as an actor, i love him even more when he's just being himself (my man has so many talents & making up rhymes on the spot is one of them, you can see all of it in this show but also look at his hair).

INTERVIEW: there are a lot of crazy interviews that literally brought me to tears, but i would definitely recommend the recent one where lin talks about five songs that he loves... it's amazing to listen to him talk about music.

Wandering Star: such an interesting mix of “folksy” with urban sound effects

fun fact, I always accidentally mispronounce “Portishead”. Idk why I can’t learn, but there ya go!

Undenied: again, this is has a blend of soft and harsh sounds, but I like how it’s completely different from the first song. The timbres/qualities are different, so it’s a fun experiment in how far you can go with a musical idea.

Perfect Day: why does the tonality of this song refuse to be stably in a major key? 🤔 I don’t necessarily consider that a “perfect day” association - the way it keeps mixing major/minor refutes the “perfect” quality. I suppose it’s just a “wistful” thing, but still!

I Want You: YES I LOVE EARLY DYLAN!!! This is prob in my top 5 fave Dylan tracks. It’s so heartbreakingly beautiful, simple, and earnest.

Fun fact: “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” is my #1 Dylan song

Coffee & TV: I’ve said this before, but I find it odd that certain songs are produced in such a way that the vocals are subservient to the instrumental line. I think I hear this more in “alternative” sounding music. Maybe that’s a trend I’ve just never noticed!

First off, all your recent works have been so good! Your art too, it’s all so well done. It’s been so long since I’ve seen anything sally face and it made me go watch some old playthroughs… brought me back to my childhood.

(Also, not sure how I never noticed your creepypasta work? Reignited a few of my childhood crushes.)

I don’t know why but I always get so giddy when I see song lyrics from the songs I recommended being used, I’m so glad you like them as much as I do.

I’m sorry anons are being rude in your messages, I fear they need to relearn the virtue of patience and that you don’t owe them work. I personally am willing to wait however long you need for one of your works (even if it isn’t in a fandom I’m from) because I know your works are always absolutely amazing and nothing short of a masterpiece. <3

Have you listened to Ariana’s new album and Hozier’s new EP? I loved ‘We can’t be friends’, ‘don’t wanna break up again’, ‘boy is mine’, and ‘I wish I hated you’ from Ari’s album specifically, although every song in that album was so good. ‘Too Sweet’ and ‘Fare Well’ were my favorite from Hozier’s album, the guitar in both is just so good.

My recommendation for this time (if you haven’t heard it already) is Luna Day’s ‘Obsessed’ and ‘Say it Back’. Unrequited love songs will always have a special place in my heart.

I only listened to “We Can’t Be Friends” but I hopped on to listen to her entire album and my heart hurt 😭 The upbeat songs were so funky though! But “I Wish I Hated You,” made me wanna sob (instantly added to the Gojo YN playlist ☝️).

Hozier always slaps with his siren songs. Seducing me with his voice and lyricism and ARCK! “Too Sweet,” makes me wanna gnaw off my own arm because of how good it is, god...

hii vinciie im listening to more bands lately n since i play bandori but arent too well versed in music,, do u rec any argonavis bands for me to listen to? also what r some comments on said band if u want to give em?

HELLO LAB! I’m sorry for being so late to answering this , I was fighting demons and eating my homework . I DO have many Aaside recs heheh, I have a entire Aaside playlist but it’s on apple music which I don’t think you have (? Maybe you do I can send it if so) so I will simply write a list here. I’ll put some bands and songs and a brief description of their styles!!!

For your Main Band, Standard Mobage Music, I’d recommend Argonavis! At times I like their music and at times I don’t. They actually use a large variety of instruments in their songs despite being a 5 man band, so I don’t know where they’re getting these strings and all that but I’ll suspend my belief for the tunes. Their music is like, upbeat inspirational pop rock tunes with an odd amount of strings if you pay close attention. There’s also a heavy focus on piano in their songs! Some specific songs I would recommend are Hey! Argonavis, AASIDE (only listen to the argonavis version. If you listen to the all leaders version your ears will bleed), JUNCTION, Starry Line, VOICE, and my personal favorite of all their songs, Root of Love….Root of Love is not at all like any of their usual music, it’s much more subdued and a bit more…..tender…..? Well, it’s really great anyways, so if I had to choose one of their songs to listen to forever, it would be that one. Their covers of Melissa and Kuchizuke Diamond are also really good! Imo the second one is better than the original

For METAL ROCK GRAHHHH HEAVY DRUMS HEAVY GUITAR HEAVY VOCALS GAAHHGRAHHH I HATE MY DAD music, listen to GYROAXIA! No, I do not know what their name means nor will I ever know. Their music is extremely heavy on the guitar and drums, it’s fast paced, Nayuta is screaming mid song, sometimes he’s rapping, it’s a good time. Occasionally, Ryo is forced to look God in the eyes as he’s forced to play the synth and the bass at the exact same time, and despite the challenge, it always sounds good. Couldn’t they just have one of the guitarists do that? Guess not. Anyways, some of my favorites of their songs are MANIFESTO, SCATTER, BREAK IT DOWN, GET MYSELF, EGOIST, GETTING HIGH, and WORLD IS MINE. And, yes— all of those titles are officially in all caps, and in English. I also really like their cover of Kyoran Hey Kids!!, it’s pretty cool. I kind of hyped them up too much but if you listen I hope you enjoy

I was hesitant to add Fantôme Iris since you said you like more pop rock BUT they do have some melancholy bangers. Their music is vkei! They have a lot of strings in their songs , but in a more…goth way than argonavis. Felix’s va, Arthur Conant Lounsberry, is seriously amazing and I love everything he’s done, in and out of AAside. Yeah I….I don’t know how else to describe their music other than It is Vkei. They also have two guitarists, and sometimes one of them plays the piano. So…here’s some songs: Gin no Yuri, Hitsugi no Naka no C’est la vie, XX in Wonderland, Rhapsodia, and historie. I think rhapsodia is a masterpiece. Also , based on what you’ve told me I think you’d like historie most out of all of these? If you’d wanna hear some of their covers, I recommend 1/3 no Junjou na Kanojo. Um. And only that one. I’ve only listened to the one cover it’s really good I promise.

Next up is HAPPY FUN TIMES MUSIC: Fujin RIZING! They have only had one sad song so far, there’s some crazy lore behind that one….Fujin Rizing is apparently Ska, but I’m a fucking loser and I don’t know what that is or if Fujin Rizing really is Ska. So don’t take my word for that one. What I CAN say is that they have trombone and saxophone in their songs! The focus of the band is to have fun, and that’s exactly what their songs do tbh. You just need to listen to it I like their stuff a lot actually. Some favorites: Banzai RIZING!!!, SWORD!, Run Gun Run, Furareta Otoko No Love Letter, and Jokyou Jokyou Ittekimasu! They also have a cover of HOT LIMIT that goes so unbelievably hard.

Lastly. Epsilon! They are the electronic group yay.….they have the largest amount of songs per band in the playlist, so very sorry if this song list gets long. I was a super big fan of their music even before I got obsessed with Shu so….Yeah….Their music is the darkest out of all the bands, Shu is a emo little fuck and makes sure everyone knows it. They’re the only consistently dual vocal band pre-Kimisute, which is super cool, I love how Shu and Haruka’s voices sound together…Uh, not much else to say honestly , Stream epsilon phi 👍👍👍👍👍 So here’s some songs so you can do that. (Clears throat), Hikari No Akuma, Cynicaltic Fakestar, End of Reason, Play with You, Sake it LOVE!, YUMENOATO, re:play, and finally The song thag gives me diseases: Orthros. They also have a Shu Self Realization song, Raison d’etre. I also wanted to say, Haruka has two solos that are honestly some of my favorite all time AAside songs: Egoistic Sai Phi and Heroic. They both do a really lovely job of capturing Haruka’s most important points as a character….Kanata also canonically wrote a song for epsilon Um. It’s trash. It’s called I’m picking glory, it’s really bad, if you want to listen to a really terrible song listen to that one. Some really good epsilon covers are Enigmatic Feeling, Roki and WATASHIGA MOTENAINOWA DOU KANGAETEMO OMAERAGA WARUI 🫡🫡. Epsilon also has a YouTube channel where they did some vocaloid covers, most of them are bad, but you should check them out anyways. I’m picking glory is on that channel

You See Big Girl /T:T from attack on titan

Ever since I've watched that series I have been hooked by it, and the soundtrack is defenitely one of the main reasons. Since this is a variation of "Vogel im Käfig/Bird in a cage" that is even more dramatic, I really love it!

2. From the depths from Teophany/ Remix of brinstar depths from metroid

The metroid series has one very specific but also very nice soundtrack. And Teophany's remixes are just sooo damn good and epic.

3. Adira's spirit dive from Kena: Bridge of Spirits

The official soundtrack of this game is finally on spotifiy and it's Theophany and Rozens work, one of my favourite OST arrangers. This one is even more epic, if you have played the game. It just conveys the emotions of the scenes so damn good. And hearing 05:20 the first time while watching the cutscene killed me back then.

4. A beautiful Song from Nier Automata

I think I have send you this song as a recommendation in a previous ask but it just slaps so it's earned it's playe here. Combined with the boss fight and the story behind it...man....the feels! Oh also go and look up the live version of it, it is even better! :o

5. Mordremoth from Guild Wars 2

Also a boss battle theme that got stuck in my head end ever since I have found it again, I really felt the need to download GW2 again. Very good memories with this game.

6. Gerudo Valley from The legend of Zelda

Ever since I have played ocarina of time on my 3ds back in 2010...I guess I got sucked into the "the legend of zelda" games. Their soudntrack is what got me playing the piano.

7. Moonquake / Ceadeus from monster hunter 3 ultimate

Epic...just epic. Imagine an underwater boss battle with a gigantic horned Dragon that fires waterlasers at you! The first time my online group got me into that boss arena and the song set in I was frozen from how cool it was. :D

8. Oath to Order from TloZ Majoras Mask but the arrangement of Teophany

Teophany really needs to be included in more game soundtracks! Their arrangements are just so damn atmospheric, epic and emotional....this one has to be one of my favourites even though it is kinda sad. :)

OH MY GOSH I LOVE SLEEPING AT LAST, THERE'S A LOT OF THEIR MUSIC THAT DIRECTLY INSPIRED A BUNCH OF MY FICS. To be clear, "Nine" by Sleeping At Last is a c!Ranboo song and nothing will change my mind, and also if you listen to that song and then read anything I've written that has Ranboo in it you'll get a good understanding of my exact interpretation of that character. "Seven" by Sleeping At Last is a c!Tommy song - from the music to the lyrics, it's so painfully him, and it makes my heart hurt badly each time I listen to that song, both from thinking about the character and just from the song itself, because it resonates deep in my soul.

Anyway.

SAL is some of my favorite music to sing - it's really nice melodies that are fairly simply in most places and let you do a lot with embellishments as well as just focus on holding a really good note from start to finish. Singing a lot of SAL's songs reminds me a lot of playing the flute - it's not about being fancy with lots of quick notes that sound impressive but are mostly just touch-and-let-go-of-them, it's about playing the slower, longer notes in ways that lets you really be dynamic and interesting with them and show off your control and elegance. It's neat. I'm very honored that my posts give off a SAL vibe <3 I must be doing something right, at least.

I’ll listen to those soundtracks soon. I listened to Night Vision and Diosa; loved them both so I found this playlist on Spotify called ‘This Is Mareux’, downloaded it, and listened to the entire thing while on a long walk last night. I wasn’t very familiar with his music, but I do remember his song The Perfect Girl being very popular a few years ago. What genre would you say his music is? I was perplexed by this lol.

I tried out the Metro 2033 Redux demo and it seems cool. I got as far as meeting Bourbon and made it through the tunnels before taking a break. Who is your favourite character in the series? I’ll need to look into the books then.

As a genre, it’s dark-wave! If you like this kind of sound I would also recommend She Wants Revenge, it’s one of my favorite bands.

Sadly no, no merchandise; i have the books and that’s pretty much all ૮(˶ㅠ︿ㅠ)ა. I saw a cool lighter once but I didn’t get it unfortunately. Also, last time I checked their official merch store wasn’t working…so yeah. I’m not big on posters anyways, or t-shirts…it doesn’t fit my current aesthetic lol (but an art book would be lovely and I would definitely buy). I rewatched Free! again very recently, and this song will always slap. It's always nice to be brought back to my sports anime days.

This is probably my all-time favorite anime opening. Ever. It's from Parasyte, which is something that everyone should watch at least once. It is part of what I call my "Holy Trinity of Anime." My brain chemistry was permanently altered, and I rewatch it several times a year. I even have a Migi hand puppet who always joins me for the rewatch lmao.

Weekly Recommendation: They Might Be Giants (the band)

Hello there! My queue ran out and I didn't realize....... it has been a month..... I sorry............

Anyway! This one is near and dear to me. Also gonna be full of links so warning ya now. They Might Be Giants was my first albumn, my first band, the first way I bonded with my dad as an adult and a person, and not as a parent. I had a CD player and borrowed CDs, a few burned with sharpie to label them, a few with the original inserts and all. This is the official playlist of some of my favorites, though it's not all of the songs I love (none of the kids songs on here, and Here Come Science slaps. There's an entire animated version of the album I watched over and over on dvd.)

I feel like I'm less qualified to talk about music than other media, because I don't play any instruments. After switching from the piano teacher I liked to an old witch (I assume she had magic. Mostly I remember her for the painful singing. Please let me do that you are not good at it miss.) I quit. Though I can mimic tunes well, I lost the ability to read music quickly. But I can tell you about this band and my history with it. So this is maybe the only music recommendation you're gonna get. But it will be very long, and I guarantee you will like 1 song of theirs.

This is because of the sheer amount of genres TMBG manages to cover. This bop about the sun is immediately followed by the correction in a ballad correcting it's wrongs. Though they tend to follow alt rock and ska sentiments (like this song my dad sang every time he made bacon) They have love songs, rap, and total nonsense. More than anything they like to experiment with sound. Lyrics are nice, but words are also just noise, and if it sounds good it doesn't need to make sense. Fingertips is one long song or 21 very short songs, things that could have been part of something bigger, but never made it to that stage. That said, they have some songs with actual deep themes. (And also one about underwater cows)

I feel like my playlists shows the albums I grew up with: Flood, Apollo 18, and Mink Car. Those were the songs I played over and over on my cd player, that I choreographed stupid dances too (Oh god cringe) that I thought about making LPS music videos of (oh god even more cringe) Before I turned 21, TMBG played in my city, but it was at a bar, and I couldn't go. My dad called halfway through the concert, and put on speakerphone so I could hear a distorted version of half a song. This year, I got to go to the concert for real, though only after it got cancelled three years in a row. (Covid, covid again, then a car crash yikes. Everyone lived luckily) Luckily, they played Flood, the actual first album out of the ones I had. It was really cool. Give their music a listen, find some funky tunes with lots of horns (The live horns were very good) and tell me your favorite nonsense. This is a bit unhinged but I can't really describe why I like music. It makes me bob my head, and sometimes think deeply, and sometimes fall asleep. It means childhood, it means car rides with my dad, it means standing for way too long but enjoying it anyway.

Things of 2022, Part 3: Music

This was more of a challenge to find new music I've listened to, as I'm officially old now, so music was always better in the past... and I tend to gravitate to what I already know

But here's a short list of new music I've enjoyed this year

Biffy Clyro - Myth of the happily ever after. Technically this came out last year.. but I'm including it here anyway. Primarily because I got to see them live this year at the 02 in London. There are some great tracks on here, but DumDum and A hunger in your haunt are stand outs for me. Great band, brilliant live show.

Dream Widow/Foo Fighters - Dream Widow. Really hard to talk about the Foo Fighters this year, such a tragic loss of Taylor Hawkins, but the music stands for itself. Not watched the film this links with, just can't bring myself to.

Ghost - IMPERA. This was a recent recommendation (this week!) and the suggestion was metal but with a Queen vibe. That comparison works, really enjoyed this album, but need to listen to it some more.

Placebo - Never let me go. I've listened to Placebo since their first album came out, so was happy to see a new album come out, but I'll be honest listened to it a couple of times and it kind of slid into the background of my playlists. Not because it's a bad record, but just because I wasn't in the right frame of mind for it. Need to go back to it again and put the time into it.

Cavetown - worm food. Now this one has a story to it. I have 16 year twin daughters, and they tolerate my musical tastes, but some of it seeps in. After the Biffy Clyro gig, they said it would be great to go see some live music. My response was, well who would you like to see? and Cavetown was the answer. I'd never heard of them, but found tickets for their tour early in 2023, and will be taking my girls to their first ever gig. That did mean I need to listen to the songs, to know I'm in for. Turns out it's really nice indie music. Need to work through the whole back catalogue, but looking forward to the gig quite a lot.

Metallica - 72 Seasons. Well. what can I say. I love Metallica, probably seen them live more than any other band, and so when the first song on this new album we released I downloaded it immediately. Only one song available so far, Lux AEterna, but totally consistent with their sound. can't wait to hear the rest of the album when it drops next year.
