It was your favorite season, you enjoyed the songs the trees sang at night, you loved the breeze they bring when they danced, and the colors of the trees brought a warm coziness into your heart.

You chose to walk to school today, to take your mind off of things but, your mind kept getting clouded with images of a faux blonde.

You felt a heavy arm swing around your shoulder, almost making you drop your coffee. you removed the girl’s arm.

“why are you here,” you huffed as you glanced up at the girl, your tone coming off more whiny as you intended to.

“walking to school, duh.”She rolled her eyes, fiddling with one of the gajillion trinkets on your key chain on your tote bag.

you smacked her hand away,“don’t you have a car?”

“yeah but, i gotta keep in shape, you know for the season,” She smirks, flexing her bicep. “-And i know you’ve been walking to school lately, i wanted to see you.”

You couldn’t deny the way your heart fluttered when she said she wanted to you but, you did not want to boost the girls ego any more. “um, we see each other, every day. you should put a sweater on, you don’t wanna catch a cold.”

“why, you’ll miss me?” she wiggled her eyebrows and you physically cringed.

“no, we sit next to each other, i can’t afford to get sick on bed rest because of you.” taking a sip of your pumpkin spice latte, dare you say ‘tis the season’, she rolled her eyes with a small huff.

“you don’t have to be a know it all, all the time, miss granger.” Her focus stayed straight ahead, her eyes wandering to your face every now and then. you almost laughed at the reference, you nudged her a bit.

“i didn’t take you for a harry potter type of girl,” now you began looking straight ahead, as you guys neared school.

“Why not? They had third grade me geeking,” you could tell she had a smile on face by her tone of voice.

“okay smartypants,” you giggled, walking through the gate, she shoved you slightly.

“i know you’re not talking, i’ll see you later, a’ight?” she held her hand out and you looked at her like she was crazy. “okay, be difficult.” she said as she hugged you and then she walked away.

“bye..” you muttered out, your heart was pounding, and you began walking to your first period.

Time flew by quickly but, you weren’t having fun. You dreaded walking into third period, the hug felt different, it didn’t feel like those fake hugs at family gatherings. Well, you’ve never hugged Paige before, so she could hug everyone like that.

You walked into your calculus class, feeling the hairs on the back of your neck stand tall— this time, not because of Paige. Ms.Carson acts as if she’s cold blooded vampire, keeping it so cold in her classroom.

You walked to your seat, sitting your bag down, good, paige wasn’t there yet. actually, you almost always beat her to class, so it’s both a shocker, it just feels good this time because you did not want to see her.

It felt like if you see her, you would word vomit all your feelings, which is weird because you don’t know how you feel.

You didn’t like her, you were just a bit shocked she hugged you? No, now you were being delirious, it’s not like it was a bad thing that you liked her—wrong. it was horrible, so you thought, it was unhealthy to have a crush on someone you knew you would never have, right?

It was like having an addiction to something you couldn’t afford, who their right mind is addicted to weed but, can’t afford a gram, idiots and beggars, you want to be neither.

You were pulled out of you thoughts, when a certain someone handed you a word search worksheet as she sat down.

“what do i need this for?” You examine the page, already finding a few words. you smile as you read one, gay, that had to have been on purpose. of course it wasn’t in the word bank though, that would be absolutely ridiculous.

“it’s a free day, remember? there were coloring sheets but, you seem like you do word search in your free time.” She chuckled at her own joke or whatever you call it. it seemed like she was trying to sneak diss.

“super funny,” you responded sarcastically, the safest option. you pulled out your pencil case of of your tote bag, setting it on the desk. highschool is so hard they said, your teachers aren’t as lenient they say, lies. But hey, you had no problem with word search.

you take a random highlighter out of your pencil case, doing the word search no problem. until you see paige peering over your shoulder, you turn your paper so she couldn’t see. “what are you doing?”

“it’s not a competition, i just wanna see what you have.” she bites back a smile, still trying to get a peek.

“if it’s not a competition then why are you trying to see my answers?” you crossed your arms and she smacked her lips.

“okay, you caught me, listen, i need to ask you something,” she set her pencil down, now you were nervous. you subconsciously began biting your nails. she gently pulled your hand away from your mouth. “hey, stop it, i thought we worked on that?” you huffed when she said that, you guys did work on it, mainly because you keep your bails painted and it’s unhealthy to eat nail polish. “Look, my birthday (Oct, 20th) is coming up, so i’m throwing a halloween costume party, you should come.”

is she messing with you? no seriously, it’s not like you were a nerd on disney channel who never gets invited to things, it’s just shocking coming from her, now you had to get her a gift.

“yeah, sure.”

“No that definitely means, ‘bring me a gift’” you whine to your mom, as you guys walked through victoria's secret, inside the mall. (best store in the mall)

“so what does she like?”

“i don’t knoww,” you whined some more, “now i have time to get a stupid halloween costume,”

“just wear something, cute, ooh!— a cute firefighter, or a jennifer’s body costume, that could be really cute, i bet you would impress miss basketball star.” she wiggles her brows, putting countless things in her bag.

“i’m not trying to impress her,” you huffed for what felt like the one millionth time today. she gave you a look, “okay, maybe a little but, i am not going to her party dressed as a slut, i am not in a movie.”

Comments on Saltburn

- Couldn't have chosen a better film to start 2024. Saltburn is beautiful, hunting and weird. And those types of movies that it's been to go in blind

-I wasn't following the marketing campaign but people on the internet were treating this movie as a gay love story so I don't know if the movie was actually marketed that way or if it was the audience wish's but let me tell you that this is no love story.

-Felix is quite a nice guy, one of the biggest plot twists for me was Jacob Elordi playing a genuinely nice guy lmao. It is implied that Oliver wasn't the first poor dude Felix brought over Saltburn but I didn't see this is something bad or evil, Felix grew up in a highly privileged environment and yet he ain't a complete jerk but I rather believe that he just wanted to know people who in his eyes were free of wherever knots he think he had, people who are "normal" and have "real" struggles.

He really bonded with Oliver, even with his friends not sharing this friendly sentiment towards the outsider and was deeply hurt by Oliver's web of lies. His death or more likely the way it happened was a shocker to me but it made sense he was no longer friends with Oliver, he became an enemy and an obstacle to his truly desires.

-Farleigh was the only one able to see through Oliver bullshit, and that's why Oliver makes him get kicked out of the house. In the beginning you kind of hate him cuz you think he's being a jerk to Oliver just cuz he is poor. I think he may represent this type of rich people, the ones who can't stand poor people trying to be one of them. I wonder if he off himself too.

-Pamela and Venetia I would need another watch to understand their characters but in a first watch I interpreted as Pamela being their "clown", entertaining them and being replaced by Oliver, who just couldn't live with the idea of not being in Saltburn with the aristocrats and thinking that even if she was bullied, it's better to live there then live with the common folk.

Venetia I think is just the type of woman that just can't get out of her mother's shadows as she tries to be different, to be cool but fails. By the end she also is able to see through Oliver bullshit and I think that's why she died.

-Elspeth is amazing. She was so elegant, so classy...it was so sad that she never was really allowed to express the pain of losing her kids. The only time we see that was when she screamed in pain after founding Felix.

She wanted to keep Oliver around cuz Felix loved him and it was a way of keeping her son there.

-Lets talk about the Devil. I don't think he planned to do all of the murder, he planned to be with the 1% but not to murder them. It only happened after Felix found out the truth.

Oliver was obsessed with Felix, and the moment he drank his cum , he started to act more and more confident. It was like he was becoming more and more like them after that and sucking Venetia, literally a vampire, sucking them dry.

Like he said himself, he loved Felix , he wasn't in love with him. It's like when Cady Heron wanted to sabotage Regina George but still wanted Regina to like her and be with her. This love and hate duality.

I think the grave scene is when he realizes what his done. He lost his obsession, he could never consume Felix again but he damn hell tried. The sex scenes with Oliver are never about love, but it's about power.

He thought it was over until Elspeth invited him to continue to stay with them. He tried to match Venetia to reinforce his place there but she realizes what he really was and because of that he had to deal with her too.

His dreams of being in Saltburn were over until he saw Sir.James died. Now it's time to suck the life out of a broken and lonely Elspeth. And I was really scared when Oliver started to mount her like that, I was so afraid that he would assault her defenseless body I almost turned off the movie. That was the scariest and heaviest scene to me tbh

Now it's all his. It's better be alone and be the one of the 1% than being with the common folk.

Plus Duncan disliked him because he also saw who he really was from the very first time. And like all the staff, he left

Okay as promised here's my more thoughts to follow in the Buffy update, A+ series had a great time. "Innocence", "Passion", "I Only Have Eyes For You" and "Becoming" so great, Buffy gets so much good everything for all the big Angel fallout Sarah Michelle Gellar is just always nailing it. Also actually warmed up to Cordyxander wasn't expecting that. Gonna admit wasn't super into Spike at first but I'll tell you into the second half once he was in the wheelchair loved that guy, dunno just wasn't really buying the hype they tried but after taking him down a few notches my kinda guy. RIP Jenny but she got a lot of great stuff loved her, RIP Kendra kinda wish she'd got a bit more for her death. Also I remember back in What's My Line I thought oh a cop who just starts blasting in a school of course she's an assassin but then they do the same thing in Becoming just as regular cops incredible. Also wow they went real hard on the queer coding with Buffy coming out to Joyce in Becoming (this was also a great scene), also a hard unsympathetic turn for Joyce especially in 3x01 with her blaming Giles for Buffy following Joyce's ultimatum, wasn't expecting it so much. Giles also, lotta great stuff, shocker Anthony Stewart Head does good work I know but he was so good in Passion and I Only Have Eyes For You. I didn't think I'd get so into the whole AngelxBuffy romance considering y'know I already knew how it goes but nah its still real good even with that foreknowledge. Also shout out to Willow just having to double as a teacher for the latter half of the series since Jenny died incredible stuff, and good for her getting into the witch phase which is what I mostly knew about her from second hand knowledge, besides that finding out she was gay in the evil mirror verse was part of how she found out she was gay herself.

Also I forgot about that joke about how David Boreanaz can't do an Irish accent and man he can really not do an Irish accent, I remember an episode of Angel where his pre Vampire memories took over or something and they just had him do the American accent, shout out also to Angel being dead and still in the opening credits for series 3 (I've watched one episode so far) really selling me that he's dead forever guys. Also gotta say despite I Only Have Eyes For You being real good, kinda sketchy the whole I dunno if the student being in a relationship with his teacher was handled particularly well. Like I get it yeah for the comparison between Angel and Buffy but directly bringing that in makes that a bit sketch as well, like I'm not gonna complain about age differences with vampire/human romances because its a staple, you can't get away from it they're vampires but if you're directly bringing in the comparisons y'know.

Also glad you mostly enjoyed the song recs, I've been listening to Rise Against since you said The Weight of my Pride is like them meets Fightstar (who I will also get to but I am incapable of checking out music in a way that isn't listening to they're entire discography in a row before trying out another one), they're so good I haven't clicked this hard with a band since I got into Dio and REO Speedwagon, its just banger after banger.

Also gonna go read HerInsectReflections' essays on series 2 like you recced. Will read your Common Ground fic when I get to around about Faith's heel turn I think.

Final last second thought the theme song seems a bit different for series 3? Dunno if I like it as much I'm sure it'll grow on me

Yeah! Definitely read the @herinsectreflection essays, they're really incredible. In particular I think you might enjoy skipping straight to the one she wrote for "I Only Have Eyes for You" since I think it does a really good job dissecting and contextualizing the teacher/student and age gap stuff in that episode while still acknowledging what sucks about it.

I know I've said before that my favorite episodes of Buffy are the ones that are really about other episodes of Buffy but I really mean it and I think you probably know exactly what I mean about that by now. As such, I'm really excited for you to get further into s3 and start getting to the Faith stuff. Very enmeshed with the Angel/Angelus arc.

Anyway fully agree re: Kendra. The show really did her dirty. It's got to be acknowledge that the one way Buffy fails egregiously and repeatedly throughout all 7 seasons in with race. Characters of color and black characters in particular are rarely seen, usually only fulfilling temporary roles, lack the depth and interiority of white characters and are usually victims of some sort of stereotyping. It's a bummer and I wish I could say it gets better but it really doesn't. Huge L!

Re: Spike - honestly yeah, for me he's best when he's kinda just being the buttmonkey.

I think the season 3 theme might be where they ditch the scream? I prefer the scream tbh. But when I watch with my best friend she does it for me, which is very sweet.

I've been seeing posts about IWTV's pisspoor ratings all season long. I don't use social media other than Youtube & Tumblr, so IDK what goes on elsewhere, but on Tumblr IWTV trends in the Top 3 every week, going head to head with HotD & Dr Who; and way more people are reacting to it on Youtube, too.

Word of mouth is powerful; I talk to fans IRL all the time. I got a few of my friends to watch it, and I've gone to conventions & bought fanmade AMC!Loustat merch from BOOK fans who love this show. So I know people are out there tryna get the word out, grassroots.

But clearly more work needs to be done, if ratings are tanking. And I feel like AMC's the one shooting themselves in the foot. Cuz we're out here putting in the work. But wtf does AMC expect, when its streaming platform is darn near irrelevant, and even the availability of this show is some of the worst I've ever seen. It makes NO sense how people in the UK don't get IWTV for MONTHS after the season ENDS, when darn near half the cast is BRITISH! Their own people can't even watch the show! Thank god the Australians have it, otherwise a large chunk of the non-USA fans actively promoting this show via gifs & metas & videos & clips wouldn't even be able to see it AT ALL! 🏴‍☠️ Making niche shows accessible ONLY on niche streaming services/channels will KILL IT faster than anything else! IDKY why AMC hasn't partnered with Netflix or something, so way more people have easier availability & don't need to sail the seven seas with VPNs & crap just to watch one show FFS! Prestige can only take you so far if no one knows your show exists; and the ones who do can't even watch it legally!

I'm well past 30, and most of the reactors I watch are 30+ too. But bless the CW crowd; they're the goats who carried Destiel for 50billion seasons even when its queerbaiting smacked the dogsnot out of everyone; and let Twilight put vampires back on the map. But just cuz they're "young and female" doesn't mean they can't handle or be attracted to more mature stories, stronger language, and far gorier fantasy horror--look at True Blood. The difference is that unlike AMC, HBO knew how to promote its show extremely well. Cuz shocker: SEX SELLS.

AMC has a golden nugget--nay, a DIAMOND--that is THE Helen of Troy of vampires, the beautiful Louis de Pointe du Lac, who has powerful, gorgeous vampires frothing at the mouth for a mere CRUMB of his attention. And THIS is what we get:

This is another problem of accessibility, but this time about the LORE. IWTV is not a show you can really watch with your brain turned off. You don't HAVE to read the books--some would even argue that you SHOULDN'T, cuz AMC's changed a lot of the storybeats. But how cool would it be if AMC sold audiobooks with the actors doing the voice work? For all the effups Netflix had with The Witcher, people gobbled up Henry Cavill reading excerpts of Andrzej Sapkowski's books. AMC keeps bragging about Sam & Assad reading all the books--SHOW US, then! Sit those nerds down with TVL & TVA or AR's Alphabettery and and have them go awf!

finally in the mood to start a new podcast and BOY HOWDY am I glad I picked Caravan

it’s a supernatural western portal fantasy with a lovable crew of misfits

working to overthrow an authoritarian demonic government (think river of teeth, coyote of the painted plains, or adventure zone: dust)

it’s written, produced, and acted in large part by queer people of color

also one of the few podcasts out there with solid, diverse visual descriptions in the text. shows that allow for a wide variety of personal headcanons are great and all, but it’s also really nice to see so many characters who are unambiguously, irrefutably poc

samir is such a great protagonist. he’s a relatable nerdy everyman, who also (shocker!) isn’t a skinny white straight guy, but who is also refreshingly genre-savvy and has tons of agency within the narrative.

also, I love that his accent is different when he’s talking in his head vs out loud. that’s amazing writing -- it both reveals something about the character, his personality, and his background, and also serves as a neat way to differentiate between internal monologue and dialogue for an easier listening experience.

the other characters are great too! we’ve got charismatic cowboys, badass old ladies, reluctant minions of evil with hidden depths, douchey playboy vampires, and one man who is Definitely Straight

it’s very sex-positive and body-positive ... very very very (it gets quite nsfw at times, pls check the warnings before each episode!)

It’s Always Been This Way (Hasn’t It?) - A shameless self promotion on my part: a hogwarts au where Dee is a deatheater (probably), Virgil gets caught in a lie, Patton forgot he has depression but not how much a certain Slytherin means to him, Roman will do whatever it takes to protect his family, and Logan doesn’t know if he can trust himself. And everything is made more complicated by a time turner and an unbreakable vow.

Blessed Warmth - Dee goes out for a heated blanket and goes home with a soulmate. (And then passes out)

Little Words - The only things it took for Virgil to actually meet his soulmates was a crash and a few words written on his left hand.

got no strings - Dee cannot see soulstrings but that does not stop him from conning every person stupid enough to thing he can. This includes his roommate (whom he most definitely isn’t pinning for) and his roommate’s new trio of crushes (whom he also isn’t pining for). 

Together - To be fair, they did ask Deceit if he wanted to join them. But....Deceit just doesn’t like sex like they do.

oh this is gonna be a massive shocker for anyone who’s followed me for more than one day. but if you aren’t following yves. yet, you absolutely should be. not only are they a gem of a human being vampire with incredible hot takes on everything and a wonderful sense of humor, but ALSO their writing makes me go batshit insane. they have a whole archive of incredible lgbt and jewish speculative fiction (in fact they are the person who got me into speculative fiction as a concept), but in particular let me note: their published book of short stories (buy!!! it!!! i have read it three or four times!!!), KAY RAINIER (can’t believe yves. invented he/him wlw), and their latest Reedsy-contest-winning short story (the last paragraph of which i wrote a multi-paragraph analysis about).

another incredible shocker, i know! but in case you weren’t aware, waya is the creator of Genuinely One Of My Favorite Characters Of All Time, the one and only benji russells, a funky little genius and cat parent who lives in my brain rent free and will never be evicted. waya has such an incredible talent for creating multifaceted and lovable characters, and their passion for their characters and work is so infectious. they also just have... such wonderful vibes. such a kind and lovely person; i am always excited to see they’ve posted. you can read their current work, Edge of the Lonely Quiet (wolves!! werewolves!!! cults!!!! cross-country adventures!!!!!), and their (discontinued/archived) older work, Crime of Mind (secret agents! so much benji!) here!

for the record, logan, if you’re reading this, i have no idea whether you consider yourself a writing blog. but guys. holy shit. logan’s book in progress, All The Doors Are Open, is SO goddamn good; i could (and have!) reread the posted excerpts over and over again. the apocalypse! but it’s not malicious so much as just incredibly and extravagantly weird! compelling characters! (tris in particular flipped my “i would die for you” switch and so i’m obligated to shout him out by name.) a happy ending! good messages about recovery and friendship! also logan is just so cool, as a human being, excellent vibes, excellent music taste, 10/10 all around.

avi was one of the first people i followed when i ventured out into the uncharted waters of writeblr, and i have literally never regretted that decision once. he literally can just... write anything and it immediately makes me do a motion blur as i scramble over to look at it. i first fell in love with (the now shelved) To Bet Your Life, because the characters were so well-written (can i get a hell yeah for conflicting but extremely important goals!!!), and now i’m eagerly keeping up with An Arcane Magic, which has... just... such cool worldbuilding. it is so so cool. (also a shoutout to Mercurial Beasts because i would kill for jester!) all of avi’s work is so well-thought-out and sticks in my head all the time! and his writing style is gorgeous and complex without being overly flowery!! i simply await the day he will be famous!

okay, i’ve only known ari for, like... not even two weeks? but as soon as i read one (1) excerpt from her writing i had to immediately sit down and go through her entire blog archive. something about ari’s work just... picks me up by the collar and shakes me but like! in a good way! in a fantastic way!!! i go particularly feral thinking about Anchor-Point (WLW... RIVALS... IN A DARK ACADEMIA SETTING... ARCHERY... RIVALRY AS A WAY TO VENT SELF-LOATHING... THREE INCREDIBLY COMPLICATED WOMEN IN A TRIANGLE TRYING TO TANGLE WITH THEIR IDENTITIES...) but she recently also posted the first chapter of her incredible sci-fi-noir WIP The Moon Siever and it is fanTASTIC! (also. she is just. so wonderful to talk to, so much fun, impeccable vibes!)

i was lucky enough to find claire’s writeblr just as they were starting their blog and i am so so glad i did because i absolutely must see all of their content or i will perish. their WIPs are SO engaging and fascinating; they’re doing epic fantasy and political fiction in new and wonderful and very homosexual ways and i am obsessed. i particularly recommend checking out lightning on the skin (magic with sci-fi concepts! political drama!! betrayal!!! gay people!!!! and also trans people!!!!!). (also, their art is FANTASTIC.)

last but CERTAINLY not least, oh my GOD. blue was one of the first folks from writeblr i ever spoke to, and in the two years since they have been NOTHING but kind and creative and enthusiastic and wonderfully supportive! they are one of the SWEETEST people i have met online and they have an INCREDIBLE aesthetic, litcherally iconic, 10/10 babey!!! their kindness is just contagious what can i say!!! they also have a super fascinating WIP that does fantastic things with changelings and faeries, and has a delightfully interesting fantasy setting.

4) how often are you on tumblr? 

Every day? When I do 11-12 hour shifts I just hop in to check my notifications and/or messages and scroll down a few posts I guess, but I’m aware that I’m not as active now as I used to be

Mutuals, mostly, and everyone who messages me! I have some friends and a boyfriend whose blogs I regularly check lol

14) do you admire the clouds and color of the sky? 

Yes, very much so. I’m staring at the sky every time I’m going out for at least 30% of the time

15) what’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you? 

Uhh I’ve had a few weird encounters with strange people - I do work in customer service, dear - but also weird things don’t happen to me, as chaotic as I am I just cause the weird things to happen myself. I would say the weirdest thing that’s happened to me lately was falling in love when I just managed to convince myself to stop looking for it on every corner.

I’m more of an HBO originals kinda guy, but if I had to say something then BoJack Horseman (shocker, I know)

I mean recently or ?? asffsgd. I recently learned that I’m capable of being in a healthy, committed long-distance long-term relationship. I learned that I feel much more than I want to, I learned that I don’t want to live with the gender I was born as, and I learned that life is good and there’s hope for a better future.

Films, because they’re more easily digestible

Pen, because I always manage to smudge pencils. But also.... love me a good pen

34) when you hear “ peace ” what do you think of? 

Soft linen sheets, lazy mornings, the distant sounds of early traffic, sunlight flooding in from the balcony’s doors, a mop of messy green hair on my chest and my partner draped around me under the sheets. There’s no fucked-up news on any social media when we wake up for real and check our phones.

35) a school subject your good with? 

Probably literature/english, but I’m mildly curious about chemistry, biology, history and grammar too

Three and sometimes I sleep through all of them asgdjg

43) what do you remember from your childhood? 

Crying because my parents were divorcing, singing songs on the swings with my best friends, dolls and getting scared by House MD. A purple pastel dress with pearls sewn onto it and some green summer dresses. A ski cabin, but I’m not sure I ever went skiing.

Oh ye!! Lighters and mugs. And I guess you would call my ear gauges a collection, too. I kinda collect books, patches and pins but thats like, way secondary to all of these - I have Loads of lighters n mugs.

rly easy listening! the format is two best friends goofin off each other and their chemistry is rly good so its kind of mcelroy esque in a way which makes it RLY easy to process (this is a big un for my friends who typically struggle with listening to podcasts)

also shorter eps in the beginning so u can zoom thru it if u so desire

it takes a bit to get there but the plot is So Good................

This is tricky because I always feel like I’m in so many fandoms but in all reality, I just get way too invested in the fandoms that I am in hehe ;) As most of you probably know I am a villain fan, but I keep lists like this for the heroes/anti-heroes because villains can have their own lists/posts so these are my favorite good guys (some with a little bit of bad to them but overall good guys)

1. Reggie Mantle (Archie Comics/Riverdale)

OH my gosh SHOCKER I know ;) JK 

I love this guy with all my heart. Reggie was a childhood fave for me and I’m so glad that Riverdale has reminded me of my love for this prank playing, sneaky, secretly super sweet, jerk with a heart of gold. 

2. Faith Lehane (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel)

Another Shocker, right? One of the first girl crushes I ever acknowledged! As much as I love Buffy I was always team Faith when they competed. I like to vouch for the misunderstood characters that act mean to hide their hurt. Faith just had such a good storyline. Plus she was so badass. And pretty. And beautiful. And - okay I’m done. 

3. Daphne Blake (Scooby-Doo)

Danger-prone Daphne! Another childhood icon. 

She’s smart, sassy, pretty, badass, sapphic, and also a total mess. I relate only to the last two parts but I love everything about her. Every incarnation of this iconic character is amazing and I’m in love. 

4. Emma Duvall (Scream MTV) 

I love this actual ray of sunshine! I relate to Emma in a lot of ways. We’ve both been through a lot but try to stay positive and kind but also take no bs. She’s an inspiration and just a great character.

5. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)

I wish I could be as smart and on top of it and badass as her. She’s also just a great character because she’s very complex and pragmatic. This is a girl that kept a woman locked in a jar for months to teach her a lesson, a girl who never stopped standing up for what she believed in, a girl who started a club that pretty much no one joined to defend house elves, a girl who erased her own parents’ memories so she could go fight Lord Voldemort. 

6. Harley Quinn (DC) 

Whoa, big surprise? Did you guys know I loved Harley Quinn? I’m not even going to lie Harley is the main reason I even read DC comics. She’s such a cool character. The overly ambitious psych ward nurse who wanted to use her patients to become famous and ended up falling in love with and seeing the humanity in the most dangerous of all the rogues? What a cool backstory. I love her even more now that she’s an out of the closet bisexual and she and Poison Ivy are a thing. I love this crazy clown 

7. Rosa Diaz (Brooklyn 99)

Rosa is so Cool. She’s badass and almost cold, but also such a good person who is loyal to the end to her friends. She has a sense of adventure and fun and a unique bond with every member of the group.

8. Charlene (Archer) 

I hardly ever blog about Archer but I should because this show is my life. I love this out of control country singing pansexual chick. 

9. Mac Macdonald (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) 

Honestly, Mac was always my favorite character. He’s a jerk just like the rest of them but in a hilarious way. His whole character arc of overcoming internalized homophobia and coming out as gay just made me really happy though. 

10. Liv Moore

Who knew zombies could be so adorable? Liv is a really cool hero for so many reasons. She breaks all the rules of the traditional “hero” on a show like izombie. She’s not exceptionally badass except maybe emotionally plus thanks to her zombie strength. She’s not “determined to save the world from evil” she just wants to live as normal a life as possible. She’s just a kind and caring girl who had a bad hand dealt her. She’s also super smart and has a dark sense of humor and a tendency to bounce back after bad stuff. I just love her a lot ok.

Ramblings on developing relationships and character changes

Warnings for: mention of rape

I know I talk about Safe in the Dark a LOT

Safe is my baby, well, my seven year old child by now I guess.  

The characters and relationships have come HUNDREDS of miles since I first sat down in 2011 at the age of 14 with hope in my heart and an insatiable wish for penning another death and another and another, and letting the bodies pile up with my word count.

So, hastily cobbled together relationships, flat characters and an overstretched cast.

And for a hot second, a love...quadrangle.

Sort of.

BUT NOW?

...I don’t fucking know everyone is gay, so sue me.

Daniel, poor thing, is a WWI vet who went away to war far too young and came back with too many scars.  Vampirism can be a shocker out alcoholism though, so he’s got that going for him.  He was going to propose to this lovely lady Emily.  Of course, Thea said ‘fuck you I want a tiny vampire army so I can rule the world’ and that was the end of that.

Daniel swings whatever way happens to suit him at the time.

Generally he’s pretty romantically NO, but sexually, he really has no preference.

side note he usually bottoms when with guys

After losing everyone he cared about not once, but twice, he decided that who got to know him became a matter of absolute top secret break through seventy years worth of locked doors bs.

Jesse came through like a whirlwind and said ‘How about I jump over the doors instead?’

After that Daniel started letting himself remember that the world isn’t as shit as he convinced himself it was, and started to enjoy life again, with some minor hiccoughs along the way.

Jesse is GAY .  Bold, italic, unsubtle, with all his fluorescent green hair and as much 80′s college kid as can be crammed into a person.  He is the embodiment of a cross between what my cousin’s Mike and Jesse (hah, it wasn’t intentional, it just happened) were around his age.

While he likes to pretend he’s as directionless and brain dead as his appearance sometimes suggests, he was a fucking straight a college student (don’t ask me his major it fluctuates a lot).  

Jesse is HIV positive (guess what vampirism doesn’t cure) and when he met Daniel, he wanted to DIE.

He also offered to fuck Daniel in the back room of the bar but that is another matter entirely, because Jesse was very drunk, and not in the best mental state, evidently.

Despite Daniel being obviously disinterested over the months they live together while Jesse plans to have Daniel kill him, and Daniel ponders the possibility of whether he’d be able to turn someone- Jesse falls fucking HARD.

There is obvious flirting, which, Daniel doesn’t reject so much as brush off.

However when he DOES turn Jesse, he gives in and the process is a little more, let’s just say physical, than need be.

This is where that relationship gets very complex.

Because after a decade or two, Jesse knows how to manipulate what he wants out of Daniel, and he does it.  

He knows it’s wrong, he knows it’s really REALLY wrong.

He does it anyway.

When he confronts Daniel about this, (Some 30-40 odd years after being turned) he specifies what he’s been doing as a kind of rape.

Daniel, doesn’t see it this way.

That doesn’t change anything.

Daniel never saw it as manipulation, he saw it as his own personal weakness, as giving in to what Jesse wanted because sometimes it was nice, and other times just because it was easier than the alternative.

But that still doesn’t change things.

Let’s, move on.

Alexandra is probably the only /probably/ straight character left, and I say it like that because she’s only classified as such because she’s never specified otherwise to me like everyone else has in some way or other.

She went from paper doll abuse survivor to- well.

Herself.

I won’t speak much on her past, but she went from being driven by fear to being driven by a want for family.  A real one, somewhere she was safe and happy and loved.

She found it.

Alex has, an odd relationship with sex.

She’s had it used against her and she’s used it herself as a means of getting by and sometimes it’s nothing and sometimes it’s pleasure and once blood is in the picture it goes a little, softer.

Once blood is in the picture it’s like everything has reset.

Because even though some things can still leave her curled up from the memories and the feelings, a lot of it is finally, finally okay again.

Isaac is like an invitation to normalcy she never got to have.

Isaac feels like coming home when she isn’t even sure she knows what home or love or being in love even means anymore, if she ever knew it at all.

So she’s a little too heavy handed and it shows and she scares herself in how ready she is to drown in the new feelings.

So she runs away, because it’s what she’s always done.

Isaac is pretty middle of the road bisexual, and quicker to label it than Daniel- with more of a preference toward men, more of a preference for those with softer edges and big dumb grins.

Tom and Isaac were high school sweethearts. 

They fell out of what they decided wasn’t love shortly after senior prom.  Still best friends, neither worse off for ending that aspect of their lives.

Alex is an odd experience for him.  A loss of control, wanting something his past says he shouldn’t.  Something akin to your spike buffy mess except neither of them is evil.

Isaac watched a vampire tear his father’s throat out when he was nine.

His uncle raised him ever since.

His parents divorced when he was very young, his mother gave up all rights.  He hasn’t spoken to her since he was 14.

He doesn’t know what to do when Alex comes into the picture. Because she shows up and he expects to get killed.

And then he doesn’t

and he doesn’t

and he doesn’t

He tries to draw lines between what is definitely morally right or wrong, but it seems to keep pushing the limit until he has to start over.  And he doesn’t seem to care as much as he feels he should.

Moira is trans, ace, and the biggest lesbian ever.

I knew she was a lesbian from the start, the asexuality came about later in a conversation with Carrie.

The transgender bit, that was a realization several months ago.  Then came the wondering, would hormone treatment work on a vampire?

How much would you have to hush pay a doctor for a patient who wasn’t going to bleed like normal, or have a proper heartbeat?

Daniel and Jesse never questioned calling her Moira, they never knew her by any other name, and she never felt it necessary to tell them.  They didn’t ask.

She did ask Daniel for help finding a Doctor.

Alex walked in on her once to the discovery that surgery ended above the belt.  Much to her embarrassment and Moira’s amusement.

Carrie is a lesbian as well, she goes in between girlfriends a couple times within the story, though focuses more on her work as an EMT and continuing her progression through medical school.

She once posed as Isaac’s girlfriend for something, which she made him swear he’d never ask her to do again.  I have a lingering suspicion that it was a family wedding.

there is more but I am getting incoherent in my writing, so that’s that.
