i love finnish slang culture so much like for example somehow we think "mielipide" (opinion) is too long of a word and just shorten it to mp (and not only just in text but out loud too), and then we just simply disregard any inflections for the next word

so instead of "[mikä on] mielipiteesi tuoleista?" ([what's your] opinion on chairs?) we would only say "mp tuolit" (opinion chairs) and i love it

something i wish i'd see more in trigun fanarts is people having vash speak their native/non-english languages completely unprompted, ive seen folks have him speak french, which he canonically knows, but i really do believe he's a polyglot. mostly because of that one time in the desert when he saw the samurai and wanted to greet him in japanese but struggled to remember how to even say hello.

my headcanon is that rem had them learn as many languages as possible but with the big fall and so many people dying, which i think is what led english to became No man's land main (or even only?) language, means that vash (and knives!) both got horribly out of practice and are various sort of rusty in every others languages.

what im saying if there's any pun or joke you've been dying to write but just doesn't work in english vash (and knives!!) are right there!

hi sorry in advance if this is weird but i couldn't for the life of me figure out who machete was reminding me of and just now i figured it out - surku the dog from the moomins. can't remember enough to tell how accurate that is personality wise but something about the image of a distressed pointy-nosed dog shivering in a coat... plus ne on molemmat ahdistuneita queer ikoneita

I love Surku! Surku must be protected at all costs.

If you ask me, he's even more distressed in the comics.

But now that we're on the topic of Moomin characters, I must add that I see Machete in various Fillyjonks a lot. The short story Fillyjonk who believed in disasters is one of my favorite pieces of literature ever, when I first read it it shook me to my core, I still revisit it on yearly basis. For someone who seemed so wild and free spirited by nature, Tove Jansson did remarkable job at catching and depicting the essence of anxiety, uncertainty, vague sadness and irrational fears. At least in my opinion.

estonian just feels like finnish with a lisp sometimes ill be honest

"Mitä vittua sä teet" -> "Mida vittu sa teed"

(sorry for the 7 estonian people on earth that i may have upset)

Yeah honestly it just feels like Finnish without some letters. Estonians can't even use the argument that Finnish is Estonian with extra letters because Finnish (usually) preserves words very closely to what the proto-Finnic form was.

Let's take proto-Finnish reconstruction *avanto: Finnish, Ingrian, North Karelian, Votic: avanto Estonian dialectal: avand

Or what about *halko: Finnish, Ingrian, Karelian: halko Estonian, Ludian, Võro: halg

Or *kaikki: Finnish, North & South Karelian: kaikki Estonian: kõik

Estonian had so many letters changed and dropped and even made up some new letter out of thin air...
