I honestly wasn't expecting many people to like it when I first posted my silly little idea 😭 but the support has been overwhelming and I'm so so grateful

Funny you should ask that- cause reader is going to ask the exact same thing in Chapter three. Of course, Johnny is going to give them a different answer than what's fully true

That is part of the reason (the full scope will be unveiled as the story goes on). That building is where Johnny last saw Ghost alive and he can't bring himself to go there out of sheer, overwhelming guilt and terrible memories associated there. That's also the same place where he lost his arm. Even thinking about entering there again has him sweating bullets and his stomach churning

But, at the same time, it's all he has (or had) left of Ghost aside from about 4 pictures (Ghost never was a fan of cameras). So he's stuck between a mental wall of his own limitations and what he needs to have, at this point, to keep himself somewhat sane. It's a work in progress

Now that he knows Ghost or part of him is alive though - he has a lot more motivation to go. How long that will take or if he will even manage to do it? That's up for debate and will eventually be answered in the chapters ahead

Our favorite guy will be back soon enough! I'm just about there as far as saying hi to his cute little face(s) in the writing progress for chapter three. 💚💚💚 And this time I PROMISE it will be much happier

I had one line referencing Bruno and Danny in "Flypaper" but hhh... Dead Boy Duo, my beloved... I want them to be friends so bad, I want them to be sassy partners in the field, I want this with all my soul. They're brothers in spirit... Their moms have the same voice actor... Please, they would be so funny together.

I know there are oodles of fictional spy agencies in media, but I've always been a Bruno the Kid fan at heart. Ever since I first watched Danny Phantom, I've loved the idea of Globe getting in touch with Danny post-"Phantom Planet" and inviting him into the agency... Sometimes Bruno's villains canonically die instead of going to jail and I think Bruno and Danny would be a silly pair. Two "dead" (they got better!) cartoon boys goofing off and takin' names.

Specifically, Chick E. Love would have a flippin' field day burning holes in the Ghost Zone, unleashing wave after wave of ghosts into the world, and I just really want Bruno to do his "If I ever use a spy gadget the way it's intended I will die" schtick while Danny keeps dumping all the Fenton ghost-hunting gear on him...

I want the sassy boys to drive everyone up the wall. Bruno tolerated being bullied for about 5 seconds and then ruined that kid's life slkdjf. Cheerfully told Cy what he wanted to put on his tombstone. He does not mess around. I want Bruno to straight-up kill a man again and Danny to lose his mind.

Bruno is the boy who ran gleefully towards an electric fence with intent to climb it. He literally targeted HIMSELF with a missile in an attempt to win a chess game. I want the crossover joy of Danny throwing himself at everything that might kill Bruno and Bruno just Does Not Sweat It... Stupid.

Anyway yeah I have very normal feelings about "Dead Boy Walking" as an episode. Bruno's enemies pinning him down and injecting a terminal disease in his system... Bruno stumbling around until he hallucinates his best friend giving him self-care advice... Bruno quietly sitting down and staring into the void, separating himself from the ongoing conversation, instead of engaging in his usual banter... Boy crosses Australia on borrowed time, his legs give out beneath him at the worst moment, he's still wheezing about how he's going to do everything in his power to save others, just a little kid lying on the cold floor alone while Sydney gloats that he only has minutes left to live... His enemies making out over his unmoving body... I am so normal about this episode.

I just want Bruno and Danny to be friends :) I think they would vibe with each other even though they'd both want to bonk the other on the head. I so very badly want to see the first moment Danny realizes "Oh... Oh, this guy's, like... serious. He will kill people if I take my eyes off him." sldkfj Bruno's so intense and I love him. Danny is so tired and I love him. I want to see the first moment Bruno blearily wakes up to realize Danny just saved him from a ghost's revenge attack in the middle of the night. I love the Dead Boy Duo.

I only threw one line about these two hanging out in "Flypaper," but in my heart they spent the whole convention together because they're co-workers... they are buddies, your honor.

I do not think WordGirl would like Bruno at all because he comes off as a smarmy, know-it-all creep to those who aren't familiar with his sense of humor... Kid Math should not be left alone with him because he's very impressionable and Bruno is a terrible influence slkjdf.

I also had a loose draft for a scene of WordGirl and Super Why getting milkshakes with some other hero friends when Kid Math finds them again. WordGirl greets him like "Oh, how's your day going?" and Kid Math is just... very overwhelmed from his experience of interacting with two fast-paced sassy kids while he's still struggling to grasp the concept of superhero banter. Like. Bruno and Danny would destroy him. Blow his mind. There's no coming back from that.

So yeah, Bruno was definitely at the convention... I just didn't show him apart from that one-liner about him hanging out with Danny. "Flypaper" was really fun to write. I don't plan to do a crossover like this again any time soon, but the convention was a cool setting to explore and I'm glad you enjoyed! <3

One of my favorite stupid jokes in "Flypaper" is that Romeo was being a troublemaker in the daytime and WordGirl asked if he was "even allowed to do that" since he's supposed to be a "nighttime villain" in the PJ Masks lore... But tbh I watched a lot of Romeo clip compilations before this story and ?? apparently it's just a thing that Romeo regularly commits crime during the day and the PJ Masks literally hang back and wait until nightfall before they fight him?? That's SO funny to me.

(I also don't understand when the PJ Masks sleep and if anyone has the answer, please drop it in my inbox because I'd love to know but I also don't want to binge the series over this, ha ha)

I also wanted to make a joke about Alphapig being 5 years younger than the rest of the Super Readers because the amount I lost my mind when I saw that on the [unsourced] Super Why wiki was indescribable. POV: One of your friends is a princess, at least one is in college, and you're starting high school.

(I'm dying at the idea of three 10-year-olds running around Storybrook Village and there's a 5-year-old tagging along with them. The mental image of 7-year-old Whyatt taking a 3 or 4-year-old pig under his wing as his new friend... Such a good boy.)

After Tobey launched Romeo off his robot, I had WordGirl catch him, but I'd originally hoped to have Kick Buttowski catch him because I thought writing cool skateboard rescue mission would be fun. It seemed like it would just be shoving in an extra character who didn't need to be there, though, and it risked dragging down the scene with introductions and descriptions, but in my heart, Kick was at the convention too. Extreme.

I think another of my fave dumb jokes was just... WordGirl approaching the superhero panel she's supposed to speak on, she looks out into the crowd, but then she's like "Oh no the entire Paw Patrol are watching me, this is so much pressure."

Nothing to see here, just Baby Dog Squad taking notes... I still think about that randomly throughout the day and giggle. I love this 'fic.

I took a long time in answering this because not only am I not great at creating my own theories, I‘m not exactly familiar with all of the theories regarding Bl00draven and where he’s going (although thanks to this ask, I did have the dubious honor of watching Alt+ShiftX’s videos and this video by InsideGeek). From what I can tell from my cursory research, the prevailing view of BR is an “antihero” who manipulates events from behind the scene for what he believes is “the greater good” for the realm; this of course is completely opposite my own view of him an immoral character (we’ve seen what kind of characters murder children, murder surrendering hostages, burn down 1/4 of their city in a humanitarian crisis, neglect vassals in need, deny safe passage and guest right, who kinslay.…for what they believe is right or even just revenge. They are not heroes. They are villains whose plans inevitably fail) who isn’t nearly as intelligent or above emotional manipulation as thought, and prefers to rule visibly than behind the scenes. Some of the theorists have to misinterpret the details to depict him as a hero (attributing Aegor’s encouragement to rebel as rejection by Shiera, not even mentioning Aemon/Naerys, or that Daemon’s sons were children, squishing all the rebellions together to argue killing Aenys was justified…I fast forwarded through most of the rest of the BR biography). From a fan perspective, I can understand—with several GFM considering him a hero or at least a necessary mentor for Bran and Jon—your frustration; that thematic or character parallels seem to get thrown out the window when people discuss BR. I don’t think BR is working to protect the realm considering a deep connection with said realm (although Varys’ connection with the realm is obviously shallow) has never been established (in fact his actions have hurt the realm) nor with its rulers. There’s also GRRM showing that the Blackfyres are not bad people and are even capable of good; for people to claim that BR “protected the realm from the Blackfyre rebels” (thanks AltShift 🙄), it has to be established that the Blackfyre rule would be demonstrably worse than BR’s regime, which was so terrible it turned previous Red supporters (ex: Lord Smallwood) against him. As it is, it’s portrayed as two rival factions of a civil war, like Stannis vs the Lannisters at Blackwater, or Robb Stark vs the Lannisters; Blackfyres are hardly an inhuman omnicidal threat like the Others.

All right, I’ve ranted long enough about what I don’t think BR’s plan is (to train the next greenseer to save the world from the Others). Once again, I’m not the best at speculating, so apologies if this is hard to follow: The immediate goal seems to be to get Bran to lose his connection with his human body/humanity primarily by teaching him how to warg birds. “The strongest trees are rooted in the dark places of the earth. Darkness will be your cloak, your shield, your mother's milk. Darkness will make you strong.” essentially to replace the ghosts of his family with the “darkness” of the weirwood roots (which, as I’ve explained in another meta, are where the blood from human sacrifice enters the tree and allows greenseers to see through them.) This is a good parallel to Arya training to lose her identity and become “No One” as a Faceless Assassin, or even Sansa having to become Alayne Stone for Petyr Baelish.

We know that despite his short time in the cave, Bran is losing track of time and what is reality:

You have to wake, he would tell himself, you have to wake right now, or you'll go dreaming into death. Once or twice he pinched his arm with his fingers, really hard, but the only thing that did was make his arm hurt. In the beginning he had tried to count the days by making note of when he woke and slept, but down here sleeping and waking had a way of melting into one another. Dreams became lessons, lessons became dreams, things happened all at once or not at all. Had he done that or only dreamed it? —Bran III, ADWD

Dreaming into death through too much warging? Sounds a little like Bran is living Haggon’s warning to Varamyr:

Men were not meant to leave the earth. Spend too much time in the clouds and you never want to come back down again. I know skinchangers who've tried hawks, owls, ravens. Even in their own skins, they sit moony, staring up at the bloody blue. —ADWD Prologue

Alright, so warging into birds isn’t safe. Unlike Varamyr’s shadowcat and snow bear, who went insane when Varamyr bent them to his will, birds will turn the warging against the skinchanger and make them insane, wanting to leave their human flesh behind. And what does BR promise Bran? To teach him to fly. The first thing Bran wargs in that cave? A raven.

Then there’s this promise about how powerful Bran will get:

Nor will your sight be limited to your godswood. The singers carved eyes into their heart trees to awaken them, and those are the first eyes a new greenseer learns to use … but in time you will see well beyond the trees themselves."

"When?" Bran wanted to know.

"In a year, or three, or ten. That I have not glimpsed. It will come in time, I promise you. But I am tired now, and the trees are calling me...."

Hardly sounds like time is of the essence for Bran to learn this, if BR is allegedly so concerned about an imminent war with the Others. It also sounds like seeing beyond the trees isn’t something BR can do, since he’s still connected to them. And then he immediately changes the subject and stops teaching, claiming he’s tired (a dude who doesn’t seem to eat or sleep). That’s so suspicious it‘s practically a cliche, especially compared with Moqorro to Victarion “I have seen the glory that awaits you” in the same book.

Then there’s this wholesome decor:

"Bones," said Bran. "It's bones." The floor of the passage was littered with the bones of birds and beasts. But there were other bones as well, big ones that must have come from giants and small ones that could have been from children. On either side of them, in niches carved from the stone, skulls looked down on them. Bran saw a bear skull and a wolf skull, half a dozen human skulls and near as many giants. All the rest were small, queerly formed. Children of the forest. The roots had grown in and around and through them, every one. A few had ravens perched atop them, watching them pass with bright black eyes. —Bran II, ADWD

A passage lined with human bones? Just a misunderstood hero

There’s a ward on the cave to prevent dead things from coming in, so everyone was alive when they entered. It seems that at least some of those skulls belonged to greenseers whose flesh has been fully eaten by the weirwood. You’d think that their consciousness would have gone into the trees. But then there’s the ravens atop them, ravens with wargs inside them:

"Someone else was in the raven," he told Lord Brynden, once he had returned to his own skin. "Some girl. I felt her."

"A woman, of those who sing the song of earth," his teacher said. "Long dead, yet a part of her remains, just as a part of you would remain in Summer if your boy's flesh were to die upon the morrow. A shadow on the soul. She will not harm you."

"Do all the birds have singers in them?"

"All," Lord Brynden said. "It was the singers who taught the First Men to send messages by raven … but in those days, the birds would speak the words...”

I don’t have to tell you that any normal raven that a “long dead” child of the forest warged into probably would’ve also been dead, but she’s still there. So congratulations, there’s another form of quasi-immortality at a price that doesn’t involve the trees. If I had to guess, that’s probably what BR meant by seeing beyond the trees: Being trapped in a raven’s body forever after your human body has rotted away (because you got so addicted to warging you neglected your human life). Okay, so BR wants Bran to lose his connection to humanity. What does he gain out of this?

Well, he gets…Bran’s body to warg into. All of the benefits of warging a human (aside from not being able to walk, although the greenseeing and skinchanging is still there), he can leave the cave and influence events in a second life as Bran Stark, and Bran won’t even put up a fight like Thistle did Varamyr because he’s too occupied as a bird. BR actually seldom manipulated events behind the scenes when he was in power; he made sure that he was at the top of Weeping Ridge, raining down arrows on Daemon Blackfyre and his 12 year old sons; he was Aerys’ Hand of the King and essentially ruled the realm with an authoritarian police state while Aerys was preoccupied by dragon prophecy (seems like this could be a metaphor for BR taking King Bran’s skin and exerting power through him); he improbably survived Maekar’s reign as Hand as well. He purposely created an air of fear and mystery around him to keep his subjects in line, making gory displays out of those who spoke against him. The one time it‘s implied he worked behind the scenes was at Whitewalls, where he glamored himself to look like the ordinary hedge knight Maynard Plumm. So exercising lots of brutal power over the realm, even if he has to wear someone else’s skin, isn’t exactly out of character.

Then there’s Bran warging Hodor, who he promises he won’t hurt but he just wants to be strong for awhile…imagine if the tables were turned somehow and he was the one warged (We’ve never seen what it feels like from that side). And he’d be losing his connection to Summer as well, since Varamyr tears Haggon’s second life from him, and later Summer forces Varamyr as One Eye to make his pack submit; once you submit the warg to your will, you get his animals too. This could be why Ghost as Jon can no longer sense one of the direwolves (“Four remained…and one the white wolf could no longer sense” when there are two dead siblings he knows of, and he knows Nymeria is OK. Something happened to Rickon or Bran’s warg connection that made Ghost no longer recognize the wolf as his sibling).

To summarize this speculation: BR wants to warg into Bran’s body to get back into power, and is using teaching him to warg the ravens and greensee to make him lose his connection to his humanity in order to make this easier. Obviously this is already taking a mental toll on Bran. Now for your other question:

Do you believe Bran will end up killing him somehow? Definitely. I’m not sure of the details (then again, I’m not sure of anything, even what I just wrote) but thematically it makes sense. Sansa will end up killing Petyr Baelish—probably after a trial where his crimes are publicly known—the “evil mentor” who sought to groom her to take power for himself. Arya is definitely going back to Westeros, reclaiming her identity, and it’s possible she destroys the House of Black and White (she already disagrees with their warped sense of “justice”). Bran also has an “evil mentor” who wants to use him for potentially selfish reasons, so it follows that Bran turns the tables on BR (even if indirectly), resulting in his death (the punishment for deserting the Night’s Watch, as meted out by Ned, Arya, and Jon) or even a fate worse than death (living as a “shadow on the soul” of a raven subordinate to Bran?)

“He died weeping and alone when I ripped his second life from him. Varamyr had devoured his heart himself. He taught me much and more, and the last thing I learned from him was the taste of human flesh.” A grisly end for a mentor who taught him to warg. I don’t think Bran would be that vicious as to order Summer to eat him (although Summer has already eaten dead men), but BR reduced to flesh, alone without his powers, no second life waiting for him would be a karmic ending to someone who wanted to grasp far reaching power founded on blood and dehumanization. It’s even a parallel to how BR’s hated half-brother Aegor Rivers died, “defeated and alone, a broken man in an alien land” (The Lost Lord, ADWD).

But again, these are all just guesses about what could happen.

Hi! I really enjoyed your metas where you speculated on what would happen if Edward was turned human. Can you do one for Esme,seeing how she's like a ghost embodying a Mother archetype or something right now. Would she be able to find Esme Anne Platt again?

You know, I was sure the Muffin wrote that. “Hah, silly anon got us confused again,” I thought.

Nope, turns out I’m very confused. Possibly losing my mind.

So, the thing with Esme is that at the darkest, most hopeless point of her life, she chose to end it all, only death turned out to be Prince Charming whisking her away to live a fairytale ending. The man she idolized in life turned out to be more perfect than she’d dared to dream and she got to marry him, she was given a beautiful and devoted son, and Esme herself became perfect in every way.

I also get the impression from Esme of someone who’s not a fan of change. Kids moving out, Carlisle retiring, herself growing older, the whole change package that comes with being human - I think she likes things the way they are far too much to want the mundane human experience of times changing.

So, Esme is turned human.

It would have to be against her will, because she wouldn’t choose this. Oh, she might say “humanity is lovely, dear” if Edward asks, but she’s not actually going to want this. She’d probably use her family as an excuse, that she doesn’t want to leave them, and they’d be a big part of it, yes- but the core of the reason why she’s saying no is that she doesn’t want to be human.

If Esme is turned human, her first feeling is despair, and her first course of action is ask Carlisle to turn her again. Edward can’t even, Esme choosing vampirism would make him implode and I can’t predict his reaction at all (due to pizza box theory. Basically, with Edward, you always count one more unit of crazy than you need).

If humanity’s not an option, however...

It would depend on how her family handled this. Esme herself might just go full New Moon!Bella, in fact I’d be surprised if she didn’t. I doubt she’ll be up for much.

And the Cullens all feel responsible and heartbroken, it’s terrible watching Esme suffer like this and know that they can’t do anything to help her.

Which brings us to the question of what to do with her.

Having a human living with vampires isn’t going to end well, for a variety of reasons. She’ll likely be eaten soon, for one thing, all it takes is one mishap in the kitchen. Which, I have a feeling human Esme would mean long hours spent cooking and crying, cooking and crying. Then when she realizes she can actually eat the food she’s cooked she cries harder.

Or, as I fear she’s gone full New Moon!Bella, there’s not even crying, just... cooking and gazing emptily into the distance.

There’s the dangers of other vampires coming across Esme, and of the Volturi finding out about her. Humans who know about vampires are turned or killed, and being turned isn’t an option for Esme anymore. And as of Breaking Dawn, the Cullens believe Aro’s just waiting for an excuse to kill them all, and Esme could easily become that excuse.

It’s safer for everybody if Esme’s living elsewhere, but it’s also heartless. This family is Esme’s life, her everything. Losing them would kill her.

I imagine they would all drag their feet, “oh we’ll figure it out, we’ll live in a cave for eighty years and wrap her in bubblewrap if we have to” until the first time someone lost control.

At that point, I imagine the cracks in the family crevisses start showing.

Carlisle and Edward have the best control, they’re not going to kill her. Bella has great control too, or the appearance of it, Renesmée is able to control herself around Charlie as an infant, so presumably she’s not going to lose control either, and Rosalie is also really good while being extremely devoted to famly. Rosalie will refuse to leave Esme in this vulnerable time.

Trouble is, Jasper, Alice, and Emmett don’t make the cut.

We’re now looking at a family that slowly shrinks as Esme is more miserable than ever with having torn her family apart, and the vampires (Rosalie especially) runs to and fro to meet up with the others. It’s... not sustainable.

And it’s not very good for Esme.

I imagine there comes a point where Carlisle realizes that Esme is looking at a future of clinging to the old, never allowed to move past it in part because her family isn’t letting her move past it. They love Esme and want her in their lives as much as possible, so they’re preventing her from having one.

Esme is human now, but the Cullens are forcing her to live in a half-and-half world where she’s neither human nor vampire. She’ll never find happiness living like this, never move past the dream of being Esme Cullen.

They have to let her go.

To Esme, this is the ultimate betrayal and despair. Carlisle gave her everything, and now when she’s at her most miserable, he’s taking it all away.

But at this point there’s no future for their marriage because there shouldn’t be. In time she’ll understand, or so Carlisle (who’s desperately hoping he’s not wrong about this and feels misplaced kinship with Edward in New Moon) prays.

They take her to a faraway but English-speaking country for a true new start, make her promise not to give up, and no one is quite happy but there’s no third door.

After that-

Well, she might recover Esme Platt. Who’s to say, though I think having to fend for herself and accept the less perfect things in life would be very good for her.

I had too many digimon feelings to put in just a reply so instead I’m sticking them under this cut rip

I’ve been rewatching adventure and like that is the one I’m most familiar with but I’m always torn if my fave it adventure or 02 or tamers because each of them is just so good and appeals to different parts of me. also choosing a fave digimon is damn near impossible, just can’t do it.

adventure is all the nostalgia though since it was first and I love these kids and want to protect and get them therapy so much. and when it comes to adventure itself in terms of like ‘arcs’ I always like the one where they’re on earth looking for the 8th kid the most. though what I like to call the separation arc when tai returns to the digital world comes in close cause ugh, those episodes got so angsty and hit hard at times. also for a show that was made to sell toys they went super dark (transformers wishes I say as a transformers fan). I know usually people hate the english dub but honestly this english dub is one of my all time faves, it’s just so silly and full of puns and you can tell that the dubbers had fun.

02 is great because I’m a sucker for time skips/stories set just a little bit later. so the cast isn’t too grown up and I just like the new kids and daisuke probably is one of my fave characters in digimon...he’s just so stupid and hopeful! plus the ken arc I always really enjoyed. I know the story gets all over the place towards the end cause the writers got into a huge fight or whatever and you can def see it but for the most part I’m okay with how the story played out. I wish there were more things we’d gotten like with blackwargreymon and I will completely ignore that terrible epilogue to my hearts content but there’s something about 02 that’s very near and dear to me.

and then tamers, holy fuck did that one go hard. I mean the concept was cool with the cards and being able to upgrade the digimon and guilmon was so cute and the story got so dark and interesting while maintaining an amount of fun that still appealed to me. leomon dying (again) really was a harder blow this season. there was just so much put into the characters and story for this and it’s a damn shame the writer turned out to be such an asshole last year. also they brought back the ‘digimon evolved wrong’ thing which I am a sucker for. 

fusion and data squad I have watched and while there were things I enjoyed in fusion it really does take a lot of the fun out when the digimon were the kids themselves and not a separate entity. some of the story was cool though with the brothers and one having been dead though it was almost a ken redux thing. data squad had an interesting premise but poor execution and characters which was too bad because like and FBI squad men in black type thing for digimon sounded like a lot of fun. pretty much I stopped after data squad until the movies.

which uh, I had to stop after the third one? idk those adventure movies just were too depressing for me. (not the very very first one which was released in theatres and I loved and was technically three movies bundled into one) I just felt like the kids characterizations were all over the place and the story was confusing and a mess to me.

also I have yet to watch the new adventure reboot thing they’ve done, I’ve heard good things about it but I’ve also heard a few things that make me wary of it like how much the kids are separated. I know I just said I like the separation arc but that worked when we’d already had 24 episodes of the kids working together, it doesn’t work so much in the beginning when they don’t know each other for me.

ALSO! back when quarantine first started I played digimon cyber ghost and oh my god that game is so good. I was very pleasantly surprised not just how fun it was and how engaging the story was but that it also had some nice lgbt rep. like you can hint your character is into girls if you play as a girl, someone makes a “I thought you were a thespian” joke, there’s a guy whose being hit on by a lilymon whose like ‘I’m gay’, there’s just a few things that pop up and they’re not the butt of the joke but sprinkled in the same way everything is. it’s all just very nice.

Still not quite ready for a dozen posts about how terrible the likes of Combatants Will Be Dispatched are, sorry. Watch Vivy though, it owns. Here’s some more things that are (mostly) good. As always, worst to best.

Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki S3

Yatogame has long run out of hot Nagoya facts and its ensemble comedy never amounted to much, so now it seems mostly content to just spam more and more wacky character designs. About the only thing that it has left going for it is that 3 minutes a week are more effort to drop than to watch, so I expect them to make a movie next. 4/10

Go-toubun no Hanayome S2

Quints is a weird one. S1 was a barely good enough (i.e., well above average) implementation of the ages old harem chestnut. S2 is actually better at the core of its appeal, since it gives all the characters a sharper profile (things like taking Nino from joke to badass and making Ichika a villain are no mean feat), but it does pay a steep price for it. You see, to deliver a steady drip feed of meaningful character moments it apparently has to rush through the source material at a breakneck pace, which completely wrecks the "story" part of this story and makes every episode seem like a recap. And it still keeps wasting precious time on vestigial nonsense like its framing device and the Kyoto flashback scenario that was already the worst part of S1. But by far the most annoying aspect is its insistence on keeping all the options valid, since it prevents any real progress and makes everything seem arbitrary and pointless. So sure enough, after a season of much ado we still don't end up anywhere — you can't really raise the stakes if all at stake was "who wins" to begin with. It's watchable and even enjoyable scene-for-scene but it's getting harder and harder to call it a solid show overall. 5/10

Skate Leading Stars

I was watching this primarily because I didn't like Yuri on Ice much and wanted to see if something that is a blatant attempt to cash in on it would be better — because while YoI delivers on one aspect (being hella gay), it really is an absolute shambles of a sports show. And sure enough, Skate Leading has none of the auteur appeal of YoI, but it just works much better. In particular I appreciate how it managed to make me care even a little about a cast of assholes, which is a nice contrast to the nauseatingly ingratiating way YoI tries to make you love its characters. Also, Skate Leading is just generally cheap and unambitious, so not susceptible to trying hard and painfully flaming out on the presentation side like YoI is. But at some point you gotta let go of these comparisons and on its own Skate Leading is... just fine, I guess? Competent, mildly engaging, not very memorable. And that's probably where it loses to Yuri on Ice in the end after all, even if I think it's "better". 6/10

Idoly Pride

Idoly Pride sold itself on me with a really good (and hilarious/tragic) first episode that was just too bizarre to ignore — I mean, how can you ignore GHOST IDOL MANAGERS. Well, the majority of the show isn't like that. It's a competent and solid version of the idol franchise show, yes, but it really had more potential than that. Especially midseason, it gets lost in these dozens of characters, and while they're all likeable, it does seem like a waste of a good story just centered on Mana/Kotona/Sakura. By the end it comes back around to the heart of the matter with a Maeda-style sob story, which could be a disaster but seasoned veteran Jukki Hanada makes it work anyway. Overall, there's quite a bit of ridiculous hacky melodrama in this, but quite honestly that's the best part and I wish it would concentrate more on it. The rest is just okay. 6/10

Yuru Camp S2

Yuru Camp is still likely the best pure iyashikei show when it gets down to business. Compared to S1 though, this seems to happen less and less. At its peaks (i.e., basically any quiet moment with Rin) it's at least as good as ever, and there's some good cast additions like Mini-Inuko, but it appears that Yuru Camp simply has run out of things you can do with camping and it fills up the time with other... stuff. This stuff includes the generic school club shenanigans it was never particularly good at, and a gigantic helping of crass consumerism. Yeah, I would say the majority of Yuru Camp is just a straight up infomercial at this point, which itself ranges from the perfectly acceptable (which cute anime isn't about food constantly), to the sketchy (I don't know whether the Izu tourism board cut this production a fat check, but if they didn't, Yuru Camp still gives its best effort to make it seem that way) to the highly irritating – I am aware that camping requires gear and you can't just ignore that, but you most definitely do not require whole arcs dedicated to talking about raising funds for the purposes of acquiring the Lamp of Comfy Happiness at your friendly local Caribou™ either. Not to mention an arc where the aforementioned lame school club does the same, for double irritation. Make no mistake, this show is so riddled with scenes that beg for a solution to embed affiliate links in video files that it makes me wish I was watching something as anticapitalist and underground as Love Live. And irritating really is the last thing a show with this core concept, as stellar as it is at that, can afford to be. Bummer. 6/10

SKOO the Infinity

Skoo has one really huge asset: ADAM, its magnificent villain. It also has one really huge liability: Reki, its not magnificent protagonist. To be more specific, it's very good at anything outrageous, physics-defying and silly, such as most scenes ADAM is in, and quite bad at anything serious, dramatic (in a serious way) and down to earth, such as most scenes Reki is in. So, what's the verdict? Well, the rest of the cast is more ADAM-like, and Reki's co-protagonist Langa is fine as the straight (yeah, right) man. The tedious buddy drama is a comparatively small part of this show, and at least it pays off quite well in the end. Seriously, I was ready to give this a 6, but the final episode is probably the best one of the show, in all of its aspects. That's really not something you see often. Skoo's a great time. Except when it's not. 7/10

Non Non Biyori Nonstop

Speaking of the rare good ending, what about we gave one of those to a slim and inconsequential slice-of-life show? NNB has always been solid, comfy and amusing quality with a couple of standout moments (usually something with Renge), and Nonstop has that plus an ending as conclusive as any show of this type is ever going to have. Besides, it does a lot of things right by focusing on more characters than the central 4 (especially Konomi has great material in S3), it expands the universe just enough to not get stale, and it moves things forward — It's definitely a lot better than the movie, is what I'm saying. Apart from that, well, we're three seasons in, if you have any interest in this you probably don't need me to explain what's good about NNB at this point. Bonus points for being nothing but an ad for the manga. 7/10

Wonder Egg Priority

Oh boy, so here's the big one. Wonder Egg is the rare Meaningful Arthouse Show About Real Issues You Guys, as you might have heard. And well, the long and short of it is that it's a very good show with quite a few glaring problems (besides not actually being finished due to production issues, but what we have is enough of an ending to be able to meaningfully talk about it). In particular, one problem: WEP is, at its core, one of these metaphorical Magical Girl-ish series that are just a thin layer of abstraction over coming-of-age or societal problems. The issue is that "metaphorical" in this case means "literal" and "thin" means "basically nonexistent". This show is not subtle regarding what it's about, at all. This is a double-edged sword — on the positive side, some things really should just be said aloud, and I'm really, really fucking tired of the Ikuhara style of "here's some wacky things, maybe a blog post will eventually tell you how it's actually about the most important thing ever" obfuscation — if it's really so important, just spell it out. On the other hand, there are limits to this and when a second, different Ai appears I don't really need a voiceover line telling me that yep, this show is about parallel universes now. WEP spells out many important things, but it also spells out many things that are implicitly clear or better left vague. Not to mention that with being so obvious up front, the show's tendency to leave figuring out what it's actually saying about it up to the viewer can leave the wrong impression. Again, I settled on the opinion that it's subtle after all where it counts the most, but you might easily get the impression that it pulls its punches (Ikuhara does this the exact other way around — once you figure out what the fuck he's talking about it's abundantly clear what he's saying about it).

In fact, this show is so good at subtle, quiet character moments that it calls into question the need for big huge fighting fantasy layer in the first place, especially since I'm not a fan of the fantasy designs and the fights aren't great. Sure, they look impressive on a technical level (this show is very good looking in general), but the lack of actual impact or rhythm makes me think this is not made by people who are very familiar with action and maybe they should have asked some seasoned shounen veterans for this — or just, you know, not do it. They can (and do) impress with character acting in quiet scenes just the same. And while Ai's character story actually does pay off quite nicely by the end we got, and Momoe and Rika are also handled well, Neiru's backstory is significantly less good, not to mention the whole Frill subplot regarding the show's mythology that they introduced just before (and that's the part to be resolved at a later date), which is a huge can of worms. We'll see how well they handle that, I suppose, but as it is it's a weird and vestigial detour that doesn't add much besides thematic headaches.

But yeah, apart from all that — I like it, a lot. Great character writing in the details, cool looks for the most part, tons of ambition, and a message that I consider to be appropriately handled — for the most part, and for now. Not quite ambitious arthouse anime at its finest, but also not a pretentious disaster like Sarazanmai, Monogatari et al. 8/10

The Mystery kids encounter Paige and Frankie from Bizarrdvark. The girls ask them to help get rid of their insane fans: Belissa and Principal Karen. They all decide to set deadly traps, using the same ones from Home Alone. And let's just say ... They win in the end!

It was a fairly normal day at the Mystery Shack, one of the easy days where there were no missions or anomalies to be hunted. The Mystery Kids are settled in the living room just enjoying the quiet. Lili and Raz share an armrest on the chair, Mabel sits by and knits, Neil and Norman watch those silly ghost hunting videos on Norman’s phone, Coraline listens to music on her headphones, Wybie is sketching some ideas for future inventions, and Dipper is on his laptop.

All is silent until the familiar ‘ping’ is heard from Dipper’s laptop. Dipper clicks on the email icon and checks to see what’s been sent. When he sees it, his relaxed half-lidded eyes go wide. “No way,” he whispered.

Having heard him, Coraline pauses her music. “What?”

“I just got an email from Paige and Frankie:”

This grabs the rest’s attention. Immediately, they crowd around Dipper to see if he’s just having a laugh. He’s not. That’s an email sent directly to him from the comedy duo themselves.

Neil gaped. “No way!”

“Why would they send you an email?” Lili snarked.

“Are we sure that’s them?” Wybie asked.

Mabel shook her brother by the shoulders.“There’s a video attached, play it!”

“Alright, alright,” Dipper relented and hit the link to the video.

“Bring on the hilarity!” Coraline cheered.

The video starts off in what looks like one of the girls’ bedrooms. They appear to be sitting at a desk, and wave. “Hey, Mystery Kids!” Paige greets. “So, as you can tell, this is a private video meant only for you guys. We really need your help.” This gets them concerned.

“Yeah,” Frankie nods. “Let’s just say we’ve got two wackadoos who won’t leave us alone like Belissa.”

“Doesn’t she mean, ‘Melissa’?” Coraline whispered to Wybie, only receiving a shrug in response.

The Asian girl continued, “She is just this psycho fan! We are talking ‘Nora from iCarly’ psycho! We’ve seen her bedroom! She has bedsheets with our faces!”

“Yeah, that’s pretty psycho,” Raz agreed.

“Then there’s principal Karen,” Paige added, and the eight of them felt like they knew where this was going. “I mean, she’s not terrible-“

“She is.”

“… Yeah,” Paige relented. “She is. She keeps trying to take selfies with us, get us to mention her in our videos- it’s maddening! That’s where you guys come in.”

Norman furrowed his brow. “Why us?”

“How do they even know about us?” Lili wondered.

“You’re probably wondering, ‘why us?’ ‘How do they even know about us?’” Paige said, much to Norman and Lili’s shock. “Let’s just say, there’s a Vuugler in Gravity Falls who saw you guys doing some kind of roleplay Cryptid-hunting video with all of these special effects and stuff.

“Oh thank God,” Dipper sighed. “They think it’s fake.”

“That was way too close!” Lili exclaimed. “Thank God that idiot thought it was all just special effects.”

“Psychics, a medium with awesome hair, an ace mechanic, a girl who defeated a witch, twins who took down a triangle demon, the other guy,” Paige listed, sounding impressed with each description.

Neil winced at his description. “Ouch.” Mabel gave him a pat on the back.

“So, we’re hoping you guys could use your skills to help us get rid of Belissa and Ms. Karen. A-and we won’t say anything!” Paige quickly added. “We won’t tell anyone about you guys, since this is probably a private thing you do since we haven’t seen a single video about you guys. Not a soul.”

“Swear on Paige’s grave,” said Frankie, only to receive a punch from the shoulder for that. “And if you still aren’t convinced, listen to this song!” She and Frankie get out their instruments

“Aw,” Mabel smiled. “They wrote us a song!”

All the Mystery Kids could think was, ‘Oh, those poor girls.’ Lili was even tempted to break some rules set by the Psychonauts and teach those two whackos a lesson.

“You’re probably out making another video right now,” Paige began once the song was done. “But we really hope you watch this video, because those two are really getting on our nerves.”

“Belissa sent us cookies made to look like our faces,” Frankie deadpanned. “Delicious, yes, but also creepy! And Ms. Karen even tried to appear with us during one of our live videos.”

“And this woman is an adult, right?” Lili asked to no one in particular, just needing to get that out there. Coraline and Dipper nodded. “Just checking.”

Frankie continued, “If you guys are ever free, head on down to Vuugle, see where the magic happens, and we’ll work out some details. Later.”

Paige waved. “Bye!” And the video ended.

“… Are we gonna do it?” Asked Wybie after a moment of silence. “I-it couldn’t hurt since they think we’re ju-just roleplaying, right?”

“We’d need to be careful, though,” Raz explained. “One slip-up and people will know what we do is all real.”

“Right,” Coraline nodded as she sent her friends pointed looks. “So no talking to ghosts, no journals, no telepathy, herbaphony, pyrokinesis, telekinesis, that thing were you see through the eyes of other people-“

Lili glared at her. “Clairvoyance.”

“Whatever,” Coraline said with a roll of her eyes. “And no paranormal-tracking equipment. Wybie, you know I love that stuff, but you gotta build normal inventions around those two.” The curly-haired boy sighed.

“We’re actually doing it?” Asked Dipper, everything going just a little fast right now. “We’re going to get rid of stalker fans?”

“We’ve done crazier,” Raz dismissed. “If anything, this’ll be a vacation. So pack your bags, people! We’re going to Vuugle!”

Daffodil: When did you first start reading the series?

Start of third grade when I was 8 years old, which I believe was 2007!!  .......so like literally most of my life I have given to these cursed cat books. I remember The Sight was the most recent release. It was the first real book series I ever read, and I think I went through the first 2 series within a couple months.

Prior to that I just read stand-alone books and I only read because I wanted to win “accelerated reader” points....i couldn’t do sports, so reading was the only thing I could win at AND I DID WIN. but warriors was the first thing I read that I was actually like...into. and realized I could read for reasons OTHER then winning the most points.

Lily: If your five favorite characters were foods, what would they be?

asdfghgfdxs I honestly have no idea how to answer this question, in part because I don’t think I even have 5 favorite characters. I suppose Firestar is doritos out of obligation. What else can he be?? I mean ok flaming hot cheetos maybe seems more fitting on the surface because ~flame-y~ but lets be honest, Firestar is a bit too bland a character to be spicy. He is one of my favorites for nostalgia sake, I mean it’s Firestar, how can I not be fond of him?

I also have a soft spot for Scourge just because of the sheer ridiculous audacity of him. I wish he’d come back as an evil ghost. Anyway, when I was about 9 and going through my brief (incredibly unfortunate) twilight phase (I was just jumping on the popularity bandwagon tbh) I went to Hot Topic right before one of the movie premieres and they had this...edible bag of blood? it wasn’t actual blood obviously, but I remember it was advertised as being really high in iron to mimic blood, but it was really this sickly sweet mystery juice packaged inside of a fake hospital blood bag. I of course bought it because I went through my edgy phase early, and for some reason thought it would look cool to pretend I was drinking blood. It was the most disgusting liquid i have ever consumed but hey it did also have the unpleasant metallic tang of blood because I guess they were going for authenticity over edibility, so it’s not like I didn’t get what I paid for (or rather what my mom paid for, because i was 9)

Anyway, Scourge is that. He’s awful fake blood juice from the Hot Topic in the mall.

Wisteria: Are you looking forward to the Warriors movie?

YES ABSOLUTLEY!!

don't get me wrong, I fully expect it to be terrible. Embarrassing even. I expect they will try to change it for a wider audience appeal, and of course it will end up bad, BUT IT WILL BE SO FUNNY!! I have this inescapable morbid curiosity about it, like I really want to see what they try to do. Like watching a train crash. I can't help it.

Warriors is a silly series. I have a feeling this is why a movie hasn't been made yet, even I would have no idea who to market it for. Yes it's violent and touches on very dark topics, but the fact that its about cute little cats with very dumb names coupled with those dark topics in a way makes it look even MORE silly. I don’t think Warriors will ever have wide appeal outside of its fanbase, the concept looks too ridiculous if you’re not someone already into animal xenofiction like this, but a movie is inevitably going to try to have wider appeal anyway because that's what movie studios feel they need to do. They will either water it down, or worse, try to go a more family friendly comedy route since that’s how general audiences are used to seeing animated talking animals and they think that's the only “”safe”” way to market an animal movie, which will 100% ruin it either way. The second one is more likely, I mean why else do you think they hired the guys who wrote kung fu panda, and the recent alvin and the chipmunks and Spongebob movies to make the script?? [no shade to kung-fu panda, it’s good in it’s own way, but it is not the same vibe as warrior cats at all]. For me, this is simultaneously the absolute best and the absolute worse scenario, because like, it’s horrible, its an insult to everything I love about the warriors world, i have surreal nightmares about it, but it’s so horrible it f*cking hilarious ya know? how can you not be a little curious to watch that train crash (and the outraged reaction posts that will inevitably follow)????

A warriors movie will be bad, I can't see any way that it won't be bad, and honestly? I think that's ok. I don't need a good movie, I simply need a good laugh, and then I'll go back to watching fan animations which will always be more interesting anyway because they don't feel the need to have ~mass appeal~

Listen, we don't actually need a good official adaptation. In some ways, a good adaptation might be bad for the fandom. The fandom is cool because of how wildly different and creative it is, the series is so bare bones with no consistent official art that people can go nuts with it. I worry on the off chance we get a really good adaptation, it might take over the books. People might be less likely to draw/create with their own wild bonkers interpretations of canon in favor of sticking closer to what the official adaptation presented us with, and idk if I want that. I also def don't want to deal with searching "warrior cats" for the rest of my life to only bring up gifs/discussions of the movie/tv show, rendering material and fan creations for the books almost impossible to find. This is something i've suffered with when other books i like get popular adaptations, where as series with bad adaptations (like percy jackson) I have less trouble finding content about the books. 

Begonia: Which book cover is your favorite?

So of the old covers I admit i have a soft spot for the darkest hour, it was my favorite as a kid and I know I tried to redraw it several times. Warrior covers have a tendency to blend together, there’s only so many ways to draw mysterious cats fighting, but I think this cover is one of the most memorable for me, if only for the center art (shout out to the old Fire and Ice cover though, I also really like the center art on that. I wish the box had kept being used for more than just a single cat face in the later series)

but now that i’ve gone and looked, I really really like the full cover art for Tallstar’s Revenge, the colors just look super nice and match his eyes and everything. Tallstar having a fun and more unique looking design gives it extra points. Maybe I just like warm tones idk. And shout out to Wayne for also imagining the moor as a golden-brown field even though it’s probably supposed to be green.

out of the new covers, I like the vibe of Dark River, it just looks spooky and mysterious......and I think this artists cats look better from the side, they are always a little crooked from the front (honorable mention to Place of No Stars cover, I really like the colors and the ominous vibe, it definitely had an impact when I first saw that cover, I just don’t love the look of the cats faces blown up close from the front. The more I look at it the more off it becomes, but the colors are cool)

and I definitely agree the Russian warrior cats art has a very charming look to it, I like seeing it whenever it comes across my dash, but unfortunately I’m having trouble finding a catalogue of it to look at so I can’t pick a favorite

Hello from The Void! How did you get here? Well, I probably liked one of your posts, or I read something you posted that really resonated with me to the point that I broke my silence and actually responded (instead of just lurking like a creepy ghost). Or you're probably like a creepy ghost yourself and saw my username enough times or read one of my comments that made you wonder just who is this moron spouting off all this nonsense? Either way, you thought you'd check out my account and return the favor, or something, I really have no idea why you're here lol.

The thing is, I made this account years ago. I had a couple of irl friends who also had accounts, so I followed them plus a handful of other people from my interests back then. And it was great for awhile, until social media fatigue set in. This was nothing new. There'd be new social media sites that would be trendy for a time, and I'd be curious enough to try it for awhile, until I realize lol I'm not a very social person irl, why would I be better at it online? So I start losing interest until I eventually stop checking in. Even now, I am barely on any social media sites. I keep my Facebook account active because that's pretty much the only way people could get in touch with me if they don't have my number, and I'm on Reddit all the time but I barely post/comment there as well and just mostly lurk (like a creepy, creepy ghost wooohhh. Nah, but seriously, social anxiety is a real bitch!) Other than that, I practically have zero social media presence.

So I'm pretty much done with Tumblr... until Haikyuu dragged me back in. I can't really remember when I entered the fandom, I think I started watching sometime in late 2018 and I've been obsessing ever since. Reading the manga wasn't enough, I wanted more content. The Reddit sub was okay... for awhile. Eventually I wandered back into the wastelands of Twitter and Tumblr, all in my pursuit of extra Haikyuu juice. Yes, there's no point denying it, I'm pretty much an addict at this point. Stop judging me.

The thing is, I'm also incredibly lazy. I didn't see the point of creating new accounts when my old ones are still serviceable. For all intents and purposes, this account is pretty much dead. It's just, sometimes (okay, lots of times) I would scroll through Haikyuu tags and I would find something funny, insightful, pretty, interesting that I just have to like it (or is it hearting something? Sorry, I'm not really well versed in Tumblr lingo anymore) or leave a comment to show my appreciation. Which is all well and good, it's just lately a couple of people have been following my account, which isn't terrible per se, I just find it a bit weird since I haven't posted anything new in years. Really, the only thing I updated was my profile pic, since my account was supposed to be a personal one, and wasn't supposed to be dedicated to just a specific fandom so the pic I originally used was one of my irl head which is just... ick! I don't know what I was thinking. So I changed it because I didn't want to frighten anyone by manifesting my mug in their notifications, and really Hinata's head is infinitely better than my head so it can only be an improvement for my account.

Other than that, I pretty much left everything as is. I didn't have the heart to delete everything. In a way, it's kind of like a time capsule for me, still, I don't really recognize the me who made these posts anymore. I mean, I don't have amnesia or anything. I sorta remember them, but since they were made by a younger version of me, one with different interests and obsessions (I mean still share some of these things with this person, it's just a lot has changed as well, and I've since changed my opinion about some things) there's a sort of detachment as well. Which is why it feels like receiving a jolt of electricity everytime I get a new notification that someone has liked a picture or post. It's like "Huh?", I sort of remember the post, but also not really since it was litterally from years ago made by a younger and more naive me. "Okay, I guess?" is all I can say at the end.

So, what now? I still don't want delete my posts. Even though it kind of weirds me out now, I still like having it as a record. Like "Hey, this was ME! Wasn't I weird? I mean, I'm still weird, but in a slightly different way. Anyway, wasn't I a riot?" I also don't feel like making a new account. I still don't really consider myself active in these parts. I just like scrolling through my tags of interest (like a creepy stalker), liking awesome fan arts, and leaving a comment or two when I couldn't contain myself anymore and I just had to say something. I've also thought about re-blogging things sometimes, but I feel that would tip my account back into a semi-active state, and I don't feel like it just yet. Maybe in the future. For now I kinda like keeping my account as is, as a time capsule when I was still active here.

So, where does that leave you? I still don't really know why you're here, but you're welcome to have a look around. Just remember you're looking at an old account and it would help if you view it like a window to the past. You two stayed friends as he went through this terrible phase, trying to help him in anyway you can

Eventually he calms down. 

Of course only after he gets in trouble a few times, has a drunk tattoo, and spends more time on the battlefield does he calm down

He stops partying as much, but he still drinks quite a bit 

On Umbara he lost the last of his squad brothers who he trained with as a cadet 

Umbara shattered Vaughn. 

He showed up at your door in bloody armor and just collapsed into your arms in exhaustion and grief 

That was Vaughn’s breaking point. He had finally gotten the realization that he shouldn’t waste his life like this
