you huffed as you stuffed your school laptop into your bag, visibly stressing about your audition later today. you couldn’t believe that you had left yunjin and felix talk you into this! you were so stressed you were surprised you hadn’t broken into hives.

you had already talked yourself down from a breakdown twice today, and it was only midday. you had stayed up for three consecutive nights to learn your script the most and best you could. you weren’t one to lie, so you can admit it; acting had always interested you, even before you knew what it was. you were grateful hyunjin had gotten you this opportunity, but the concept of having to audition for someone, scratch that, two people made you feel like jumping off the school roof.

you had about an hour to spare and were on your way to the drama club to run your lines a few more times before you go in for your audition. you read your lines over as you quickly walked down the stairs, accidentally slamming into someone as you turned the corner, “oof!” “oh, fuck!” you yelped, falling to the ground with your script falling all over the hall.

“shit! are you okay?” you heard a soothing voice ask you from above, half expecting hyunjin when you looked up. you were stunned to meet the sharp eyes of someone who you’d call the most gorgeous man you’ve ever seen. probably. well, this man and hyunjin. you gasped as he quickly moved to grab the papers that had flown the farthest. you scrambled to gather the papers around you, quickly picking them up and reaching for those farther. you felt yourself get hot as you grabbed the stranger’s hand, quickly retracting with a small shriek.

“i’m sorry-!” you looked up to apologize, watching as a slightly toothy smile come across his face. “no problem.. um?” he trailed off. “oh! i’m yn!” you silently noticed that he hadn’t retracted his hand from your paper, “then it’s no problem, yn. here you go.” you silently prayed you had maintained your regular skin color and weren’t instead the color of a tomato. “thank you. i’ll see you later!” you let out a farewell before you realized what you had even said.

to say you were flustered was an understatement. you hastily made your way to the drama club, trying to avoid any other embarrassing situations. “hey! yn!” you heard jeongin call out for you, you slowed down for him to catch up to you, turning in his direction, surprised to see hyunjin was with him.

hyunjin’s discomfort was more than obvious as they got closer to you. he slowly followed jeongin as the latter practically skipped over to you, “hurry up, hyunjin!” you were confused by their current dynamic. jeongin and hyunjin were often seen laughing and fucking around, you didn’t understand why hyunjin seemed so distant right now.

“hey, yn,” hyunjin’s voice was as soft as always. he had barely even looked up at you this time. you were somewhat glad if you were being honest. “hi, hyunjin! what’re you guys up to?” 

“not much! we were just roaming, waiting for our next class.” you noticed jeongin’s eyes shift between you and hyunijn several times, “are you okay jeongin? you keep looking around?” “oh, yeah! i’m fine~ anyway! where are you going right now?”

“i’m actually on my way to the drama club! you guys wanna join me?” you looked over to hyunjin, “maybe you can help me with my lines-?” before you could finish your question, jeongin hooked his arm around hyunjin’s neck, uncomfortably hugging him, “of course, yn! hyunjin and i would love that! wouldn’t you hyunjin?”

you laughed at jeongin’s strange demeanor, “okay, you guys. just promise you’ll be normal.” the pair snickered at your comment, “we promise nothing!” you heard hyunjin’s voice from behind you.

you had arrived a few minutes later than you had expected and with a few more people than appreciated, but you made it! you had been running lines with jeongin for a few minutes before he announced he needed to ‘use the shitter.’ “seriously, jeongin? can you be normal for more than twenty minutes?” “fuck no! anyway, hyunjin, help out yn with her lines, you bitch!”

“you don’t have to do that hyunjin, don’t worry about it, i’ve been running these lines forever.”

“you could help me by distracting me,” you smiled at him, hoping he’d be able to take your mind off of your audition for just a moment. for the first time in two months, you had been at yonsei, you were finally getting to know hyunjin. you had learned that he was an only child with a dog named kkami, and that he had an affinity for art and photography outside of drama club. somewhere between pauses in your conversation, you heard the main door open. you once again met gazes with the sharp, cat-like eyes of the guy you had bumped into in the hallway.

with a small smile and a nod of the head, he walked into the room where you’d be having your interview. you felt your heart fall into your ass, no way the man you had slammed your body into was going to be interviewing you. of course, hyunjin noticed your change in demeanor and followed your line of view, his smile fading when he noticed who you had been staring at. before he could as you what was wrong, the interview room door swung open, “yn ln?”

oh, shit. “good luck, yn!” you heard hyunjin softly cheer you on from beside you. “thanks, jinnie,” you whispered back before getting up and biting the bullet.

Seeing as you provide every interesting in depth spn analysis I'm probably coming to the wrong person for something so possibly surface level but I'm rewatching spn and would really love something to keep notes on, so is there any interesting phenomena in there you think would be worth keeping an eye on?

i received this, like, a month ago 🥴 sorry. anyway.

so, first of all. i'm flattered but i have also always been a little uncomfortable with the superlatives people attach to my name. the reason people think of me as some kind of spn scholar is a result of four factors, give or take: first, i make a lot of posts. in the year after november fifth i made something like five thousand posts. i know because i tag all my spn posts spn. and a lot of those posts were half a sentence! or an ask i answered with emojis! but it's still a lot of posts. the second reason is that i'm kind of a last man standing. a lot of the big name post-nov fifth destiel fandom crowd has kind of evaporated in search of newer, shinier things; my fascination was more enduring, so i still get the credit. the third reason has to do with like... i have slightly different tastes than the average spn fandom person and so the things i pay attention to are different and so my takes are unique. there were a lot of blogs that were bigger than me that people don't remember as much because their takes were more in line with conventional fanon (and therefore more similar to other people's and less memorable), whereas mine, because i have specific interests and am an incurable contrarian, were more unique and therefore people remembered who i was. fourth, and here we are down to the meat of the issue, i speak very authoritatively and use a lot of big words when i'm excited about something so people think i'm right.

i guess what i'm saying is don't take me so seriously.

now that my narcissism is out of the way, let's talk about themes in supernatural.

first of all, the thing about supernatural is that it has three hundred and twenty seven episodes organized into fifteen seasons, written by fifty three different writers supervised by four different showrunners and that's just the writing! that doesn't even mention directing, or acting, or producing... personally i like to say that i can feel when the story editor changes! so there really is... almost nothing you can get out of the whole show as a text that isn't incredibly broad and/or vague and/or boring. "they say family a lot" yeah they sure do. "it's a reactionary macho fantasy" like every other show from 2005. "they kill all the women" mmmmhm. like, basically every consistent element of spn as a story is a result of either classic genre cliches from the scifi or procedural or teenie bopper genres, very basic conclusions from the premise, or just the material nature of the behind the scenes of supernatural. they're going on a case instead of working on the main apocalypse of the season because this is a monster of the week show. cas has gone away again because they don't want to pay misha collins. quiet emotional scenes get dropped from the script because they don't serve the plot. and while there's some interesting things you can get out of these elements - one piece of analysis i've been thinking about a lot lately is this video about the mcu that argues that the classic serialized storytelling logic of constant escalation leads inherently to a fascist politics, and i think this point applies very well to supernatural - it only goes so far. it's interesting if you want to look at how the show exists in the wider politics of the real world. it's not that interesting if you want to sit with the show supernatural in its particular uniqueness.

so basically my recommendation, first of all, is to divide the show up into chunks. there are some obvious chunks - by season, by showrunner. most people do these. i would also recommend other methods, for example tying together some adjacent seasons. for example, even though season eleven is technically carver era and season twelve is technically dabb era, i would argue that seasons eleven and twelve have more in common in terms of tone and style than eleven has with 8/9/10 or twelve has with 13/14/15. seasons four, five, and six have a lot in common in terms of tone and themes that they don't share with seven or the first three. i would also recommend paying attention to the individual writers; their bodies of work will usually have more in common with themselves than with the episodes around them in terms of character, tone, and theme. for example, in season six, ben edlund creates a whole other arc about the angel civil war that he wants the season to have that exists only in his episodes, and none of the other writers really pick up what he's putting down so he's kind of left hanging. you can see all sorts of patterns like this if you sit down and look, and i would recommend doing that. maybe you can be the first guy to memorize all the directors and have Thoughts.

and then the next thing i would say is just... pick some themes you want to iterate on. so for example: one of my favorite themes to contemplate is a theme that season six almost has - dean believing that it is his job to protect ben and lisa, which justifies anything he might want to do to them, or anyone else.

idk if its an unpopular opinion aegor but i hate the show version of larys strong. Looks like they wanted to make a more bizarre copy of Littlefinger, even the mockingbird = firefly thing. the guy acts so suspiciously that you can't not think of a cliche villain when he appears, except that they traded petting a cat when he talks matter-of-factly about the murder of his family that he orchestrated for smelling flowers 🥴

I think that after that foot scene with Alicent (because the new socially aware GOT loves degrading women and disabled people) it’s not an unpopular opinion at all.

I’ll just say that even GOT!Littlefinger isn’t really Littlefinger. GRRM points out that he’s way too obviously evil and stupid to be ASOIAF!Littlefinger, who only got where he was because he seemed helpful and nonthreatening. Like many other characters with hidden/ambiguous motives (Quaithe, Xaro, Hizdahr, Shavepate, the Green Grace, Bloodraven, the Faceless Men, Varys) the show just doesn’t understand them, so they either flatten them into evil or good, kill them off, or just leave them out. Larys is a victim of that kind of no mystery writing (particularly egregious in the supplementary material which thrives on multiple versions of the same events) in the show because that was pretty much his big character trait in the books (aside from hating his club foot). Not even Gyldayn knows his actual goals, because despite being a Green it doesn’t seem like he was loyal to Aegon II so much as disliking Rhaenyra. We don’t know who started the fire at Harrenhal and tbh the show made him the culprit when he had the weakest motivation (but they couldn’t have their Targ faves Viserys and Daemon want to off Rhaenyra’s paramour). The best comparison for Larys in ASOIAF isn’t Littlefinger but Varys, as the spymaster with hidden motivations, underestimated, disappearing after his enemies take the capital but working to undermine them, spiriting away lots of child heirs, and supporting a mysterious boy who is crowned for a short reign; but the show made Varys a counselor invested in the realm’s good when the books made it clear that a guy who cuts out the tongues of children to be good spies is not a hero, so it makes sense they wouldn’t know what to do with another character like him (though at least we’d be spared that nauseating foot scene). I guess Littlefinger was always more popular in the show than Varys, who again was also more of an obvious sinister villain than in the books, so they twisted a hidden-motivation, non-Targ, Green character to fit that mold. Or maybe they just think the audience is dumb enough that everything has to be spelled out without any mystery or ambiguity. Either way, you’re not alone in disliking show!Larys’ characterization.

04/11/21 - Genshin challenge 02/44

Oh, he for sure is one of my super faves too! Anyone who is obsessed with samurai (or just played ghost of Tsushima) probably noticed how he is a walking amalgamation of samurai stereotypes: doing haiku, playing flute (well, a leaf?), being philosophical about the nature, a bunch of “sessha” and “de gozaru”, honor talk, the anime katana slash, hell, even his teaser had references to Akira Kurosawa (btw, his theme SLAPS). This made some people think he’s too cliche, but honestly, I love it. The sum of all those things, with his calm nature-loving personality and amazing design, makes me like him a lot. We need more samurai in Genshin.

Fun fact, I remember vividly that the time he came out, I was having night classes, and it was at the same day of my final project presentation from my first college. A nice plus, I have social anxiety!! Another one: pandemics, so I was having distance learning. So there I was, sweating, and I couldn’t even know if it was because of the silly samurai guy, or because I had to talk while the whole class was watching. And Soon™.

What happened? Of course, with my luck and good timing, my group was presenting EXACTLY when the banner came out, and there I was, going insane from double anxiety. When my friend started talking her part, I just immediately ran to my controller and desperately started hitting the buttons to wish. I swear, I probably never went through wishes as fast as that, I must've broken all my records there and then. I got him and won 50/50 🥹🥹🥹🙏🙏=D =D I was definitely trembling. But now I was happy and not in utter despair in the presentation, happy ending! I still think what would have happened if I lost. It was the time I was the most obsessed with the game, and Kazuha is on my top faves, I knew I WANTED him. I would be shaken for sure 🥴🥴🥴. Idk how I would be able to present anything........,,, I can’t remember if the camera was on or not that day, but I’m good at masking emotions if my life depends on it 😵‍😵‍

About the drawing, it’s the first one I liked in quite some time (at the time). Drawing his face in profile masked a bit my terrible anatomy. There are some perspectives issues too 😵😵 I would fix his face, color more the lineart and make the color contrast better. But one thing I loved is the composition and the background idea, it fits him 💜💜

The GP just loved that he was dating someone that didn’t look like his normal type./ This is true; as I recall, I hate saying it but dating Jenny made him look good 🥴 (considering most of people didn’t know about the affair) even I fell for that cliche crap “oh he’s not shallow, and cares about what’s inside” frankly I feel bad now because Jenny is definitely not unattractive she’s just not your typical beauty, then you add she’s educated. Now dating Alba makes him look bad, there’s not a single thing about him dating Alba that tells the audience something good about his character. Lol I think the juxtaposition is interesting between dating her and Jenny.

Yeah yeah it is a known cliche of American Civil War, in which "Brother fought against brother", but still...whenever you read about it (like in the quote above), it never fails to wrench your gut.

A brief description of Farragut's physical appearance which I found amusing tbh 😆🙈 (though I couldn't help but wonder, how were the ideal standards for men were like back then? Crazy that they thought he wasn't attractive(!) 🤪)

You might remember that I've posted this already 😅😆🙈, but honestly I'll keep pointing this out whenever I can 🤣.

Farragut's kink — adding more guns (to a ship) — truly the most American kink ever 😩🤪😏😂

Glasgow judging the enemy's aim on his ship, in this case USS Iroquis 😅🤪 (and the soldiers aboard ducking around the shots 🤣). This was when they (Navy&Army, so Farragut and Butler) sailed to the forts for initial reconnaissance before the actual attack.

Glasgow had been known to climb on rigging (to get a better view on things) since…forever 😏😉. At this point they were already conducting their mission of passing the two forts, Fort Jackson and St Philip, in order to take back New Orleans.

When most of Farragut's fleet passed the two forts (and Porter's mortar fleet kept on firing on the forts to subdue them) and then arrived in New Orleans, this was what happened with the NOLA citizens. Sure enough, they weren't pleased with his arrival (y'all brought this upon yourselves though 💀🔥).

The Union sailors' reaction though? Well...not much, except for one shellback grinning menacingly at the crowd, all while patting a pivot gun and holding its lanyard 😏😂💀🔥 (all guns on the ships were shotted btw).

Show must go on folks — if you're asked to negotiate surrender (even with the crowd threatening you), then you'd have to keep at it anyhow~~~

As the surrender of the city being negotiated with the city leaders (and the forts were still under fire), Farragut ordered that the American flag be hoisted on every (formerly) federal building in New Orleans as a show of force. As you'll see in the next screenshot, the citizens were again none too pleased...

By this point the Forts Jackson and St Philip had surrendered to Porter's mortar fleet, and with this the negotiation finally ended with the city's surrender to Farragut's fleet. Other than the hoisting of the American flag atop the federal buildings in NOLA, Farragut also ordered the Louisiana flag to be struck down from the city hall. This time apparently the crowd wasn't as rowdy as before (though still intensely annoyed LMAO who told y'all that seceding is a good idea HUH??? 🤪💀🔥).

Also, gotta love the way how the officers dispersed the crowds 😅🤣🤣. When the Marines and the Sailors went back to the ship though, the citizens apparently still retaliated by throwing a small stone at Commander Henry H. Bell.

2. Not dead per se, but I have natal Pluto trine my Sun in tight orbit and I’ve always been told I look tired. People generally ask me why I’m tired/sad/angry when I’m just chilling 😩 (My Sun trines my natal Saturn too and I have a water moon in my 1st house, which might contribute to all that)

I’m also very bothered by injustice, whether it’s directed to me or others, and I have gotten into physical altercations over this. I tend to pile things up inside me until I burst, which usually happens through angry venting and rambling. If what brings me over the edge is an inanimate object (ex. tripping over a trash can, fumbling with smth etc) I might kick or throw that thing away. Not proud with how I handle my anger tbh because I often tend to say shit I regret. I have a bad tendency to impulsively vocalize half-baked thoughts and opinions too when I’m fighting with sb 💀
