had an idea for two of my ocs that wouldn't work for them but i think it would work for jily so here's my thoughts

toxic singers jily except they're not toxic towards each other, they're toxic towards everybody else. (this isn't based on my kink is karma by chappell roan, but that song goes PERFECTLY with what i'm thinking. keep this in mind for later)

at first they're in a band with a few others, let's say dorcas and sirius. at the beginning lily is dating dorcas and james is dating remus, who isn't in the band.

see, sirius is the one who wanted to start the band. he's the one who's dreamed of being a musician. but james is the one everybody likes. james is the one people want to sing. james leaves sirius behind and starts writing songs with lily instead.

eventually, james and lily start their own band where it's just the two of them. everybody loves them and slowly they're spending more and more time with each other rather than their partners or friends. when dorcas breaks up with lily, it's a surprise to no one but them because they've been engrossed in their own little world. remus wants to talk to james but he can't because james is putting his friendship with lily over anyone and everyone else.

(their concern for james, as friends of his, is how sirius and remus meet)

finally, finally, james and lily decide to take a little time at home, and remus breaks up with james. and this is where the whole "my kink is karma" relation comes in, because that song is basically remus watching james become less and less like the person he fell in love with, spending all of his time with lily. he watches the two of them push everybody away, convincing themselves (and each other) that they're not the problem.

remus gets to be happy with sirius while james and lily ruin their lives without even realizing. remus gets to watch their 15 seconds of fame collapse out from under them, gets to start a new band with dorcas, sirius, and marlene where sirius gets all the spotlight he wants. remus gets to laugh when james and lily come crawling back to their old bandmates, to him, and beg for forgiveness. because it's too late, obviously. they had their choice, and they chose each other.

i think it fucks immensely that bk moon went out of his way to 1) establish rakiel wished to live a long life and eventually pass away of old age, 2) have him very briefly envy an immortal being only to be told very clearly to be careful what he wishes for by that very same person because living forever isn't all it's cracked up to be, 3) make the main antagonist be another immortal being who is so desperate to die he's willing to destroy the universe just to finally rest and 4) have said antagonist psychologically torture rakiel with the threat of making him live for a thousand years as everyone he loves and knows eventually grows old and dies and becomes nothing but forgotten memories.

only to then end the novel by making rakiel also immortal

like. god. it's so fucking good i love it. i'm not being sarcastic i genuinely think it fucks and it's one of the best ways bk moon could've wrapped up the plot.

it's a happy ending by all means but it has consequences and through the entire novel we've been shown and told over and over again just how heavy the consequences are and/or will be on rakiel.

he got his happy ending but it was at a price and by the last time we see him he's only just starting to pay for it.

almost every papermario title gives you a best friend in the form of a very opinionated small woman with extensive knowledge on everything in the world. and these women are my favorite characters every time

1. lae'zel

2. Emperor

lae'zel is actually one of the best companions in the game and everyone who hates her or says she's just mean fundamentally doesn't understand her character. she's literally the nicest girl in the world given her usual environment and upbringing. she essentially has the exact same backstory as shadowheart in that she was raised in a controlling violent cult and has spent most of her life (including the start of the game) brainwashed by that cult into the person she is today. and yet despite it all she is trying her best to help people. she DID NOT have to save you on the nautiloid and she DID NOT have to promise to take you to what she had every reason to believe was a cure-all for the tadpoles and she goes so far as to defend you and the rest of the party to other gith despite her extremely xenophobic society pressuring her around every corner to do otherwise. over the course of the game she literally had her entire way of life and belief system uprooted from top to bottom and she ultimately decides to deal with it by becoming a hero and dedicating her life to saving others from the same situation she was in. her entire character, at its core, is so extremely dedicated to helping other people even at the cost of herself. she has the same trauma and should get the same treatment and sympathy as shadowheart and you guys just don't like her because she's not conventionally attractive and standoffish at the start of the game but when you actually follow her companion quest and/or romance her she is so sweet and trying her best and she is a TOP TIER companion and i am not going to pretend like she isn't.

the emperor is one of my favorite characters in all of bg3. i know i just went off about lae'zel but god the emperor is so good. he is a LIAR. he is a Bastard Capital B In Bold. he is the deceiver trope played straight from the very beginning and you can't trust a word he says and half of act 3 is practically dedicated to proving just how full of shit he is. he is an awful person who presents himself as a savior and a hero but at the first sign of resistance or hesitation he snaps and doubles down his manipulation in an attempt to control and corral the player into doing what he wants. his first reaction to the player turning down/questioning his sex scene in any way is to gaslight and accuse them so he can shift the blame and keep up his veil of heroism. he encourages them to let go of their humanity and turn themself into a cannibalistic monster while constantly swearing it's for the greater good. he literally runs off to join the netherbrain if you free orpheus. ansur was right all along. balduran died the minute that tadpole took over and transformed him into a mindflayer and the emperor is a shell of his former self masquerading around with the same gravitas and veil of kindness he used to have, but it's gone, if it ever existed to begin with. the emperor is a fascinating example of a manipulative piece of shit done right because even the fanbase can't agree wholeheartedly on if he's good or not but if you couldn't tell my money is wholly in the "he fucking sucks guys" camp. as a character i adore him though.

violante fact of the day that no one asked for: her signature scent is a mixture of iris, heliotrope, juniper berries and belladonna which makes for a quite sophisticated earthy aroma with light notes of smth floral and smth sweet like almond. the belladonna is not easily recognizable in the mix since it's more subtle but it gives a dark edge to the scent, plus if you have an attentive eye it's easy to catch the signs of belladonna poisoning (dilated pupils, sensitivity to light, flushing just to name a few). as result of a nearly daily ingestion she did develop a moderate resistance to basic poisons, plus a kiss from violante feels quite bittersweet and pungent, especially if it's right after she drinks the perfume, and it's not exactly the most enjoyable unless you like the unusual taste. i guess she doesn't have to worry about bad breath problems at least
