hey gang

i dont think i'm ever gonna truly continue this au comic and im sorry to those who may have been looking forward to it

powerwashing my chromebook genuinely ruined all motivation i could've had for this project and it hurts a lot to know that i've lost everything i worked so hard to create.

not only that, but i've just kind of lost interest in rottmnt and i have the brand of adhd that doesnt like it when i work on things that dont interest me :(

i'll still take little low-effort doodle requests and am currently working on a few low-quality screenshot edits but don't expect any full-blown artwork or comic panels any time soon.

if i ever regain motivation, you all will be the first to know <3

DCRC PKNA Week 11--Silicon Time!

thankfully our little book club break has meant i've had enough time to rest, get into what is potentially a new hyperfix, and feel motivated to read paperinik! ...and um ducks on the road. at some point that's not now.

starting off and first of all i have to say dear lord. the airport experience is indeed horrendous as someone who has been on an airplane recently the sign "clogged toilets delay flights" baffled me. like i understand why but im also like okay. the toilet is clogged. there are two toilets per plane surely the line woudlnt get that long

im gonna be real i thought big nosed human guy was gonna be exclusive to silicon. like i didnt think he would just. also show up here

the idea that angus fangus hasn't had a day off makes me wonder like. was the new zealand thing last issue technically a work trip despite the fact he was there to save his tribe. because if so that rules

it's nice getting to see scrooge again despite the fact he's probably gonna be written out of the story. i missed him

thought he was wiping his sweat with his money for a second here i'm goign to be so honest. and in the second panel he's sillouetted for no reason it amuses me. i mean i know why hes threatening to ruin donald and uno's situationship but he doesn't know he's doing that

i love how the evronians have a whole division that's job is just. to deal with xadhoom. who is presumably killing evronians off camera all the time

i hope its a story where its the computer in the tower that did it like we saw in the start but he's just messing around. he's just like hi uno!!! :) remember when ducklair made you i was there when you were born uno and he's like oh BROTHER this guy STINKS !

this panel si so dramtic (i LOVE the rainbow windows) but out of context its just like TWO !!!! im so mad

i know its the 90s but i like how it was confirmed later in ducktales 2017 if due did launch donald like that it wouldn't have done anything as long as he thought about the triplets (or maybe uno in this case) hard enough. our bravest man on two worlds... (yes i know they're different donalds)

IM SO MAD donald just kinda handwaving away the duck avenger's inveolvement. they hate each other so much

im so mad the way he's just. at channel 00 news now. due and the evronians deserve to be fighting each other for a while i think

and that was silicon!! i enjoyed seeing more of uno but i was disappointed the computer turned out to be. due again. but maybe im just a little loser who always wants a new robot OOPS i miss lyla lay hopefulyl we see her next issue considering we're going back to channel 00. hoepfully she had a really good vacation while this was all giong on

Friend - visual narrative

this is going to be a long thread bc i have a LOT of panels, so read under the cut!

since im reworking with Friend chapters panels, i paid attention to the details more than ever before.. and wow, the way these chapters are narrated is absolutely amazing

lets start off with my one of my fav panels

if there is a theme between these two that keep recurring it’s “duality” (whether when it comes to their character or the way their story is told) we will also find a lot of parallels with it.. this panel above starts it very well, one left, one right, they both call each other’s name, the expressions completely different, even the background is reversed

there we go again, all this in one chapter, i simply love how they have the same pose/image but reversed, its a really nice contrast with how different they are and yet are at the same level also, look at their speech bubbles, most of the time, jugram has a round one while bazz a sharper one, its the case here and the previous panels aswell

AGAIN! kubo gives us each’s pov with the same image/paneling, i love that method bc he treats them the same, even if one is stronger than the other and ppl will most likely root for/side with one more than the other, they both get the same treatment, also, we get to see how both lives the same struggle, it both conflicts them this whole fight considering the past they had together

the transition is also really nice, the black background outside the panel and the partial grey shading that matches with it inside the panel.. we will get to see that technique again, but here?? lovely.

a whole page not showing their face even if you guessed who they were, you get that little surprise with the face reveal which comes out really nice

the chapter reveal!!!! its so pure and empty (no dialogue and it’s only one panel), it perfectly empathize on the title and its meaning

i love how discreet bazz motive to help out jugo is shown here, obviously none of them would speak about it (jugo is pretty closed and bazz despite being loud, he isnt obnoxious and he’s smart) so it had to be shown without any words and these panels do it so well!

the first panel is just so beautiful and you can tell how jugo is just, happy. and then, the moment his uncle speaks, his face drastically changes, from white to black, kubo loves to work with that contrast of b&w (just look how the ritters/espadas are dressed vs shinigamis.. there is also the sun/moon theme and so on... its not called bleach for nothing lmao) kubo uses contrast very often and we can tell he loves to do it (and he does it super well!!)

i know we dont have any colour on these pages, but both pages are from the same chapter, first one (right) being their fist meeting on a normal day (probably an evening so the sky is orange ish) and the second page is again a jump to a flashback but this time it’s not the sky that we are shown in the last panel, but rather flames, the same colour as the day they met... the two last panels look the same but arent....

there is also the absence of facial expression in some panels, which imo conveys the mood much better, we are not left up to interpretation, we clearly know what kind of feelings that are expressed yet they didnt need to be shown...

again with the parallels (left/right) and using the same image from younger to older to show their growth? nice.

the built up with the grand reveal... wow, love it, also, that panel was such a surprise to me when i first read it... still give me goosebumps today ngl..(if you are a manga reader to likes to have the book, well, this the end of vol69... what an ending :))) just look at the build up, the bg is dark and you get that white and empty panel right after like, wow 

AGAIN WITH THE SUPRISE AND WOW IT HURTS, also the title being in capital... OOF, im going to loose it

ppl like to call kubo lazy with his titles, but is it?? i mean, here, i really cant think of a better title, remember how the first chapter friend was introduced? so sweet and smooth and then you get this... the fact friend is written here is a good call back to their relationship, what it is, what it really means, and the current situation

the way bazz recalls all the things he had heard about this.......th-that hurts (we’re like in his mind, we’re just as shocked as he is) also, it shows well how bazz recall all these moment in silence and does all the realization without saying a thing, bc no, he didnt say a thing ever since yhwach started to talk..

the left panel is yhwach talking (as he was for like the whole chapter) and there is no dialogue going on, the two boys didnt say a thing... as the slience was taking place, bazz breaks is with a shrieking voice, just looking how the letters are written in japanese, we went from pure, clear panel to a messy and dark one....

jump back to present, with both jugrams having the same pose but they both don’t convey the same feeling, with the shading and how cut it is (not being able to fully see jugo’s eyes) you can tell the first one is more disturbing/devastating than the second one

there we go... we get to see both of their expression at the same time and it change within the following panels,.. (im telling you, kubo love both of them, not just one.., both.)

this is one of my favorites moments, the way know bazz has lost his fight and how HE is self-conscious about it..., the way he monologues about jugram is really depressing, and how we are only given images that illustrates his struggle...the images are so strong, desperate and yet, his words are so empty, powerless, he knew he lost.. (the moment i start reading it, i cry on the fucking floor)

i mentioned earlier how i loved kubo’s choice in not showing the face, well we have it here again in a flashback and the end of the fight... jugram turning his back to bazz, he did it in the past and did it after bazz’ death..  it’s his way to avoid to face his feelings. (the fact we are shown he did it in the past and the reason to it, let us know why he did it again even later)

here again with empty panels, the fact it’s only bazz who is talking.... feels really heavy and the way he clings to jugram with burning hands....... you really need to look at every panel carefully to feel that heart wrenching moment,, there is no crying or screaming, he just softly admits his defeat and that’s it, like, im sorry but that’s fucking sorrowful

here again with kubo choosing to not show the face, but in this case, it’s harder for us to tell which expression jugram has (since he’s so closed about showing emotions or his intentions) but the fact kubo deliberately chose to hide it proves jugram has something to hide from us, something he didnt want us (readers) to see.........

these panels? concludes their story perfectly you have jugram walking up the stairs leaving bazz-b alone laying behind, being reminded of the day they met where bazz was the one standing high while jugram is on the ground the setting: the cold empty castle during nighttime vs the warm summer day met in a forest at daytime bazz reached to jugram and jugram left him behind, they met with touched hearts only to leave with empty ones, bazz used to look down on jugram and now, jugram does, they used to be so different and still do but only now, their role are inverted...

i mentioned earlier how the background (outside the panel) would change from black to white, we know the black means the past,  but i love how its broken here, going back and forth from the past and present (within the same page) to show how things are still the same between them, the same struggle, the same fight over and over

also, the “not yet” is just so perfectly placed, i cant, it just emphasize even more on my point earlier (how things between them never changed on that matter)  and it finally concludes the flashbacks (with the way it’s presented: the b&w,, and the words themselves, how they weight so much)

the black shading like that is rarely used with kubo but when he does, you know it conveys extreme emotions (we didnt get to see it with bazz bc it wasnt as intense as jugram has it but also)  the trigger to these emotions for jugram are related to trauma, the first one being his uncle and the second being his friendship (im not calling his relation with bazz traumatic, its how important this relationship was to him and how ended up broken that triggers him)

but NaKi ThErE iS ThiS pAneL wHerE baZz Is ShaDeD bLacK! yes i know, but it’s not about bazz expression nor emotions, its about the scene, the situation (the white bg vs the black silhouette: perfect), so no it doesnt count, but its still a very nice panel just like with the jugo’s reveal with everyone “kneeling” to him.. white bg was The way to go

i forgot to talk about how i like their fight, how there is so little dialogue and how there are a lot of empty pages just to let place to the fight... it lets you enjoy their fight while we suffer with their flashback, anyways, im not a fan of endless dialogue in fights unless it really changes something, here, they both already know each other and they know what they want, so it was a good pick to just, us reader, witness their story through their mind instead of them narrating/recalling it to us

i know kubo uses that technique outside of these chapters, but the grey shading... i love.. he also has a LOT of close ups with eyes bc we all know how expressive eyes are;... i love that too

i know i talked about some facial expressions, but really, kubo’s art is amazing, the way he can convey certain expressions that are so precise... here, have some panels that i think are underrated naki your boys are underrated.. bc i love kubo’s art so much

i had the chance to see the colored version only once, and to be honest, the black and white is just, Amazing. nothing close to that, kubo’s use of b&w and how he keeps his panels pure is MADE to stay that way

anyways, im really in love with how Friend was made and thought out in it’s visual narrative (and story wise too ofc), kubo didnt just do a side story, these chapters are fucking amazing and ppl often ignores that sadly..

This is what I think rwby season 7 or 8 finally will go down. My opinion and what I think. And nothing about shipping in this. For once heh.

So in the last episodes after all the filler or nice emotional or awesome stuff comes by like dealing with Weiss’s father or Ozpin still technically being alive explained to James.

James:What do you mean Ozpin in a kid?!

Or

James:So your the kid Ozpin residing in.

Or hell maybe as their arguing, Salem and her massive army of Grimm, flying beringals come to Atlas and I’m hoping she’s has another leviathan to use as like a ride, come over to get the relic.

Salem:(riding on Leviathan) Yes go and get what belongs to me!

The teams split up with JNR and Oscar staying up and evacuating the people on the flying kingdom, either via bullhead or Air travel. And the entire atlas military support Team RWBY And JNR in evacuating Both faunas and humans from the top and bottom layer to safety.

(Though with some resistance from Jaqcues who says the faunas should be left to distract the Grimm while the humans get out. And earn a well deserved punch from ironwood himself.)

Rwby go down and are immediately attacked by the beringal Grimm. A bunch of atlas ships crash the Knights and paladins and Troops. With the soldiers knowing they’re fighting a loosing battle, only motivated with the fact that they’ll be sacrificed to save both human and faunas innocents from the carnage they trained to deal with.

Team RWBY will try to fight Salem head on. But it will be a sweep her her since she’s the Grimm queen.

Weiss:Agh! She’s so strong!

Yang:We can’t... Ahh.. beat her!

Blake:This is impossible.

Ruby:Gnnn come on guys.. we can do this!

Then Jaune notices that Oscar isn’t there and so does Nora and Ren But Ren tells them that he can take care of himself and top priority is to keep any Grimm form attacking civilians. (And as an addition here will be a part where Jaqcues gets attacked by a beringal but then Jaune reluctantly kills it since Jaqcues is still Weiss’s father and he’s not pity enough to let him get killed because he doesn’t like him. Team RWBY and JNR are the good guys.)

As for Qrow, there’s two things that might happen, either he gets cut out due to his voice actor being fired(which I will not talk about) he gets killed or is the first one to die/ or the one I’m hoping for, he and Winter team up against Watts/Tyrian/ or Hazel to protect the relic.

Ironwood would probably be in the largest ship there, or maybe Atlas’s military base of operations coordinating the attack.

Maria Calavera would probably be the one to take Oscar down to the battle and then say goodbye as she flies off to try and evacuate anyone else under Atlas.

Maria:Good luck kid.

Oscar:Thanks... (eyes change)

Ozpin:I will need it. (Gets off)

So back to Salem, as it turns out as she was going to kill one of the girls, Oscar comes out and stalls her for time. She recognized Ozpin in Oscar and ignores him and starts monologuing about how she won and he’s lost. And how she is going to finish off he last of the silver eyes warriors(Ruby not Maria) and she explains how she knew that Summer was killed, bringing an emotional state to Ruby who yells out and uses her powers on Salem now with the added focus to Salem mostly.

Ruby:Mom... no... NOOOO! (Eyes shine)

In a large flash(bigger than Pyrrha and at Argus) all the Grimm underneath Atlas are destroyed instantly, except for Salem and the Leviathan. Who are both statues. Ozpin would reminisce and say sorry to her while she was frozen.

Then in a horrifying realization Salem’s statue slowly cracks and they all would panic before they get into Maria’s bullhead and fly off. But while Ruby looked at Salem she got an idea.

Ruby:(looks up at atlas)Thats it!

She remembers how Atlas was floating because of the dust inside that is activated by machines. So she calls Jaune and tells him to tell Ironwood to shut down the machines so atlas can fall. He hesitated but does so as the city was nearly fully evacuated. Ironwood reluctantly agrees to do this seeing as he can eliminate humanities biggest threat and does so. But in a twist Cinder and Neo show up and attack them.

Cinder:(walks in with Neo) Hello again~

As Atlas is slowly loosing dust power JNR and Ironwood fight with Cinder and Neo. As this happens Neo gets knocked out and Ironwood manages to keep Cinder at bay as the others get to a ship with a pilot. Seeing that they didn’t have a quarrel with Neo, JNR tie’s her up and throws her into the storage in the ship while keeping her weapons. As Ironwood ‘takes care’ of Cinder he was actually wrong and then cinder shoots an arrow into the piloted head killing him thinking she’s taking them all down with her.

Cinder:If I’m dying then I’ll take you with me!

Then Jaune moves forwards and decides to deal with Cinder once and for all with Nora and Ren at his side. They then go fight her while Ironwood mends his wounds and turns the ship on. He then flies away as the team stayed to fight Cinder. As they were going to finish her off she stops them and says something about Pyrrha before Ironwood comes back and hits her with the bullhead. She’s knocked away and then Nora and Ren get into the bullhead and as Jaune was going to do so he gets shot in the back by Cinder’s arrow.

Cinder loses her mind and is crazy on killing any of her enemies after all the stalling and fighting. (Like How Freiza did in DBZ) and she goes to kill Jaune but he manages to stall a bit more and jumps up to grab the bullhead. His hands slip and he’s going to fall back down but both Nora and Ren grab his arms and pulls him up as Cinder throws fireballs at the ship but misses due to her rage.

Cinder:THATS IT! IM KILLING ALL OF YOU! YOU HEAR ME?! HAHAHAH!v

By the time they’re all flying away from Atlas Qrow(If he isn’t dead) and Winter m get word of what was happening and they then fly off, (with winter on a nevermore.) leaving Salem’s henchmen there.

And as for Emerald and Mercury, they’re just being taken by Hazel to a redemption or something. Or maybe they could assist in fighting 2 skilled Huntsmen and escape via bullhead.

If it was watts he’d do the same, (if it was Tyrian he might crawl on the manor and grab onto Winters nevermore and pull her down. Qrow helps her and then takes a stink to the side for her. He says “not again” before winter quickly distracts Tyrian and summons another nevermore and fly them off.)

Anyways after a couple moments the entire kingdom loses power and starts to fall. Albiet slowly at first. And Cinder tried to get into a bullhead and fly out(remember she can still do that) and just as she’s going to get out a random Flying beringal(something she’s never seen) comes out and attacks her seeing as she’s a maiden and half human. She manages to kill it but it destroys the control panel and she noticed how everything around her is floating up and the wind is leaving. She sees fire around the borders of the flying kingdom.

Cinder:What?! Oh... oh..... shit....

Salem under them breaks free if the stone prison and yells out in rage and looks around to try and find the group and Ozpin.

Salem:Where are they?! Where the hell are they?!

She then hears a loud noise and then she slowly looks up only to see the ENTIRE kingdom of atlas falling towards her. She’s terrified and intimidated by this as she stood there and saw it get closer as she and everything around her was shadowed. Cinder on the island sighed and closed her eye as Salem closed her eyes as well, the then utter their final words.

Cinder & Salem:Son of a bitch.

Then BAM! the biggest explosion in rwby history from all the dust in the mines, and Isolde the kingdom that held it up exploded. Creating something similar to a nuke mushroom cloud and RWBY and co watch in awe as the shockwave hits them and makes every ship stumble a little. They see he bright lights begin to die down and let out breaths.

Yang:Well.... that was a thing.

Of course she’d say that. And also, Cinder would definitely be dead from that, and the maiden powers go to someone else, who knows who it will be maybe, Neo? Maybe Nora since she was the last female she saw, maybe Emerald if it was the last she thought off but the main point is she’s dead.

Neo would either be taken into custody(only to get out later lol) and JNR and RWBY would reunite with Oscar trying to get over the fact that they just experienced the battle of a life time.

Nora:Wait... does this mean Weiss is poor now?

Weiss:... I don’t care.

She’d say since she has her friends. (Now after that if Tyrian was there Qrow could die from the sting this time and die off. Or he could stay or something else after being cured.)

And after the credits of it all it fades to black and then in the large amount of rubble that was once Atlas. A pale hand broke out of the rock and steel. Mangled and broke with the fingers bending the wrong way another arm in the same state comes out and they start to glow and heal themselves. And after a couple moments of resurfacing Salem comes out of the rubble, with her robe and clothes in tatters and her body bruised and slowly healing form the immortality she’d vow to pay back RWBY and her friends for dropping a kingdom on her.

Salem:I’ll.... get them for this... and their little friends too...

(And Maybe for destroying the relic idk)

While writing this and doing the necessary research, I realized that in my analysis of episode 125, I had some incorrect info. It doesn’t affect the theory at all, but when I said that Arlo made Isen head of the newspaper in episode 110, it was actually 109.

Im dying at the fact that the whole school left Isen bleeding on the ground because they were so s h o o k by John’s powers

Meili is so strong wth, she just picked up Isen

Arlo progressively gets more and more guyliner throughout this episode

Arlo is mad that John is a nuisance after refusing to help him… -_-

The pictures of Illena, Krolik, Wenqi, and Hower… who the heck takes school pictures like that. Smh haha

First up: CECILE

    Cecile basically said she was going to team up with John in this episode. I’m really excited about this because I predicted this last week ;). Also because that is SO COOL. I’m imagining Cecile and John working together and oh my god they would be the BEST DUO. I can really see them working together though. Cecile understands why John acted up. He did it because Seraphina went missing. She gets his motives and still wants to help him. Nobody has done that yet, granted most people who know about John’s powers have gotten beaten up or threatened. Cecile’s mindset works like John’s does. They believe only people who are worthy should be in charge. Cecile said (about Arlo), “He keeps preaching about order while sitting on a throne he doesn’t deserve.” John and Cecile really have complementary morals.

    The main difference between the two is that John doesn’t want to be a royal, which is understandable as he doesn’t deem himself worthy after what went down when he was king. Cecile wants the throne, she feels cheated out of hers. This doesn’t drive them apart, this is actually a perfect solution. When they defeat Arlo, Cecile can become queen and basically act as unofficial king, whilst John, the king, just does what he wants. Cecile gets to be in charge and John gets someone he likes in control of the school. Of course it would work better if Cecile could just be king and John is nothing, but due to uru-chan’s desire to make fun of anime tropes, only a male can be the main leader.  So otherwise, great solution.

    So basically, I’m all for a John/Cecile team-up

Next up: Why did Abby speak up?

    Before I get into this, I want to be clear. When I refer to ‘Abby,’ I mean the pink-haired girl with pigtails. I’m too lazy to explain if you don’t know :/

    Elaine is asking around about Seraphina, right. So she asks this group of probably low-tiers and all of them say that they haven’t seen her. They probably lying, but that’s not my point. Right after this, Abby approaches Elaine and says that she saw Seraphina yesterday. She gives Elaine some helpful info and later, figures out who the four students that took Seraphina were. She’s helpful and informative, which is actually very strange. Here’s why:

    Abby is a low-tier. Along with her peers, she was treated close to trash by anybody higher up. She was mocked and made inferior. Also, if she’s a low-tier, there’s a good chance that she knows what’s going on in the abandoned house. I would say most low-tiers were present, even more know about it. Giving up Illena and friends’ identities is betrayal. So why does she want to help Elaine and Arlo? I have three reasons.

    The first one is that I think Abby feels indebted to Seraphina somehow. Sera was helping her when she got into that fight. Abby told Elaine of this. Later when Abby is talking about her experiences as a low-tier, she makes the point that most high-tiers don’t pay attention to what happens to lower ranks. Seraphina was probably the first high-tier to help Abby out (even though she’s technically a cripple now). Abby seems to treat Arlo and Elaine with awe and blind obedience, probably out of fear. Due to this, I think that she would feel, more than any other low-tier, obligated to helping Seraphina. She could possibly be worried that if she didn’t Seraphina would smite her or something, but yeah that’s possible reason 1.

    My second reason is that Abby really hates Illena and company. This reason probably has the most support. In this episode, Abby is real clear about how the stronger mid-tiers mistreat the low-tiers. She says they gang up on weak kids and make others do their assignments for them. She also says that anyone that complains is basically punished. So basically how the high-tiers treat the low-tiers but the effort it doubled and it’s intentional. Abby could see this as an opportunity, a way to escape the abuse of the mid-tiers. If she tells Arlo and Elaine, she could sick them on Illena, Krolik, Wenqi, Hower, and everybody else. Nobody would know that she was the one who snitched and she would be free. Probably why she looked so nervous in that panel of Arlo confronting Hower, she didn’t want Hower knowing about her helping Arlo. So yeah, that’s about it for reason two.

    I would like to apologize in advance; this theory is completely reliant that the pigtailed girl is Abby, a reporter that has been mentioned only in name. She was the reporter that wrote the article about seraphina returning from suspension. So yeah… ;-; (I know I said I wouldn’t explain, but I feel I owe you some explanation).

My FAVORITE REASON (and probably most unlikely): reason 3. Abby actually isn’t aware of all that is happening to Seraphina. This sounds simple enough, but the reason for my reason is the real reason (I lost brain cells writing that).

    So Abby is a reporter. She writes articles for the school newspaper and stuff like that. Because she’s written about Seraphina drama in the past, there’s a chance that she could do it again. The low and mid-tiers probably know this, hence the exclusion.

Hints of Lauriam’s personality?

Ever since we saw flower themed nobodies in the 2015 trailer and the appearance of Lauriam last August in KHUX, I’ve been thinking about how Marluxia will impact the story in KH 3 and how mysterious his motives and personality are so far. All we really know is that in CoM, he was treasonous and that he manipulated children to further his own goals without any remorse. 

One thing to take into account was his status as a Nobody at the time, so feeling no empathy could have made his personality more ruthless. We also have to remember that we still don’t know exactly why he wanted to overthrow the organization other than to simply usurp power (a pretty shallow motivation for an antagonist.) The revelation in DDD of Organization XIII’s true purpose also opens up to Marluxia’s possible motives in overthrowing the organization as other people have mentioned.

So in trying to figure out who exactly Marluxia is, and by extension Lauriam, I started to dig into the references of him in 358/2 Days mission mode.

Depending on the gear you install in the panel system, his scythe changes shape and abilities. All of them are named after flowers and many have a sort of negative or sad adjective placed before them (some have adjectives describing grandeur and beauty too). The names of the flowers are rich in symbolism and meaning, some referring to tragic myths about loss, love, and betrayal. With what we currently know in KHUX, they are fun to look at and analyze. All together, they show his association with flowers, tragedy, and death. Add the scythe and him with the black hooded coat you get the obvious grim reaper imagery he has going on. 

One gear I want to particularly look at is the Mystery Gear, a gear that “draws forth the wielder’s personality.” When it’s installed, his scythe radically changes shape to actually resemble a flower, particularly a Lily of the Valley.

The English localization calls it “Dainty Bellflowers” but the Japanese name 優雅なるスズラン directly refers the weapon as Elegant Lily of the Valley. They tend to generally represent humility, sweetness and a return or start of happiness in flower language.  I also checked the hanakotoba meaning (Japanese flower language) and have found it to also mean “sweetness.” When you see these flowers in real life they are absolutely tiny and unassuming yet their fragrance is actually very strong. In contrast to their appearance, they are actually highly toxic if consumed. They come in white and pink varieties.

When I first saw Dainty Bellflowers back in 2009, I was really confused on how this could have represented his personality (this can be said for other members before BBS.)  The way this weapons plays in the game is that whenever you hit an enemy, a cute, poppy sound rings. And in comparison to his other dangerous looking scythes, it’s really bright and cheery. It’s worth noting that the abilities that can be added onto it are Heart Bonus and Second Chance, which are healing and reviving abilities. Funnily enough, this Dainty Bellflowers resembles the pixie petal keyblade found in BBS.

What could this mean for Lauriam?  Could he be like what this weapon is implying? Is he a sweet and unassuming kid completely opposite to the proud and cruel Marluxia? The curing abilities are also the complete opposite of the death motif that Marluxia carries as well. Perhaps the only thing that is shared between them here is the inherent toxicity of this plant represented. My personal theory is that Lauriam is going against who he naturally is and be shoved into an antagonistic role, either willingly (for some sort of selfish gain or perhaps what he feels for the greater good) or forced to by some unknown party. 

Everyone is quick to point fingers as to who killed Strelitzia but I just want to remind everyone that they're only children, affected heavily by the looming reality of war, pushing them to make extreme choices. If Lauriam actually did it, I feel like his motivation in doing that is so much more than just wanting to have a position of power and maliciously slaying Strelitzia in order to gain that. It cant’t be a coincidence that they share a plant motif. This connection between them will definitely come up again.

Last thing I want to point out are the rings you can equip in Days. There are 13 elemental resistance rings each representing the thriteen members. The ring called “Flowers Athirst” representing Marluxia.  The localized name of this ring is pointing out his desire for presumably power, but the original Japanese calls the ring 聖花のうれい “Grief of the Lotus”. Lotus flowers represent purity, rebirth, and considered to be a sacred flower. A lost chance of rebirth perhaps? Besides those meanings, in hanakotoba, they mean, “far from the one he loves.”

Lotus imagery can be also seen in that pod Sora sleeps in between games. It was in that pod on the 13th floor of C.O. that Marluxia was going to place Sora in, to then brainwash and use to complete his takeover of the organization. Perhaps that’s where his “grief” lies. I could just go on and on about his other scythes and the things they could imply. Who really knows if Nomura planned this in advanced for his backstory. I just think the stuff presented here are cool ideas that might be developed more in the khux updates hopefully.

I love that Katsuki Bakugo’s catalyst for improvement comes in the form of a childhood friend that he lost, that his fuck-ups are catching up to him. I’m really gonna love to see how he deals with it all in canon but for now, I can get my kicks out of RPs.
