"Stand Down" — a Suptober24 drabble
Day 14: Fave Episode (Lazarus Rising*)
Summary:
Castiel’s been watching over Dean for nearly 30 years. Now, he finally gets the chance to intervene.
*my first idea for this (Mystery Spot) got too long and convoluted and I gave myself a headache so have some thoughtful Castiel I guess
Ever since the human year 1979, Castiel’s job has been to watch over one human: Dean Winchester.
When he asked why, he was given an answer similar to what he’s heard once before, at the beginning of humanity: “We have plans for that one.”
Castiel is used to this; he’s not given the higher details of the plan, but he follows his direct orders and this is acceptable. The Heavenly plan is more complex than Castiel could grasp; more important than he himself is.
He’s told that one day, he will have an important task when it comes to the Winchester. For a long time, though, his orders are not specific enough to include details. Castiel interprets “watch over,” then, in a literal sense: he does nothing, never interferes. He simply watches and waits for further orders to come.
The life of a human is strange. It’s very small; to Castiel, it could fit on the head of a pin. And yet the gravity with which they treat everything — they are completely unaware of their position within the cosmos and all of time.
Castiel watches and does not interfere when the demon Azazel drips blood into the younger Winchester’s mouth. He mentions it to another, a fellow angel in the garrison, but is told that since it isn’t his charge, it isn’t Dean, there’s no need to worry nor, even, to pay much attention.
But it’s hard not to watch the things and people around Dean. His father and brother are the axis around which Dean’s life tilts; though Castiel is afraid for him and his proximity to the tainted child, his father doesn’t seem to notice that anything is strange. Castiel can see it clearly, but humans are not such keen observers.
Castiel watches and does not interfere as Dean’s life bounces between motels across the country; as he brushes with death again and again; as he makes his first sawed-off as a young teenager; as killing monsters becomes second nature; to Castiel, this is all new. A learning experience, to be able to find out about human life through careful observation of one human in particular. He watches Dean as he would a fly trapped in a glass. He is interested, but he does not lift the glass. He doesn’t think to.
It’s been 28 years of this — a small blip in time — when Castiel is given further information. This happens only moments before Dean signs the demon deal to bring his brother back to life in exchange for his own soul; a moment that Castiel watches with apprehension, confusion. The Winchesters seem to enjoy playing with the rules of life and death, but this seems egregious, not to mention unnecessary. Castiel is not sure why Dean is so intent on saving his demon blood brother, who’s already caused him so much grief.
This is when he is told: the Heavenly plan requires Dean to make this deal. Dean Winchester must be sent to Hell.
Castiel is confused by this, wonders if this doesn’t put the angelic plan in league with the demonic plan, but he doesn’t ask for further information, knowing that to ask would be fruitless. God knows more than he could ever hope to. He must follow orders.
The order, in this moment of Dean’s deal, is simple: stand down. Allow it to happen. Castiel hadn’t realized that, watching from Heaven, his form had been rippling with something akin to human anxiety; that he’d been tightening his wings, preparing to fly down, to stop him.
But when he’s told to stand down, he does.
He stands down while Dean trails across the country with a ticking clock above his head, while Lilith’s rage strikes, while Sam and the demon consort right behind Dean’s back. He stands down when, on that final night, the hounds come for him. His human. Castiel’s wings flutter again and he feels it as a breeze against his back, but he stands down. He watches as Dean’s body is torn to shreds and his soul is dragged into the pit.
He watches Dean in Hell. Alistair’s instruments shine and gleam; they become bloodied and they are cleaned; again and again it happens. Castiel understands what the humans mean when they say they feel fear, concern, sadness. He watches Dean’s soul as it’s broken; slowly and with great intent.
He wonders how this could be the plan; how could this be angelic, how could this be of Heaven?
And then he watches as Dean picks up the instruments himself. The knife is his favorite. Castiel watches as he uses it against all the poor souls that come across his and Alistair’s rack, their chamber in the midst of Hell. The training from John Winchester comes in handy; Dean transforms into something monstrous himself, and Castiel hardly recognizes the Dean that he’s watched all these years as he carves himself into a new form.
Finally, Castiel’s next orders come, and he is relieved. The orders are simple and clear: save Dean Winchester.
This, he can do. Finally.
His wings gather and he takes flight. He brings the garrison to himself and forms a battalion; a group of angels whom he will lead into Hell himself.
This moment has been crouched inside his angelic form, waiting, for a long time; as Dean’s victims cry out in the pit, Castiel’s Heavenly forces cry out in anger, the attack driven past the Earthly realm and into Hell, Castiel leading the way, slashing and eviscerating every demon and crawling thing in his way.
He destroys everything he sees, on his way to Dean. The angels around him fall one by one, and then en masse. Castiel is protected by his righteous certainty, by his anger at the plan that has led to this, by his desperation to save Dean Winchester.
And when he finally reaches him, he puts a hand on his shoulder, grips him tight, and raises him up.

Dark Angel Reaction: Rising
Jezebel (@typicalopposite) reacts [with occasional asides by Wench (@scripted-downfall)]
[Oh, shit, is it this one? I think it might be. Ack]
🤔🤔🤔 Phantom sensation??? But he got it right!? Each time!?
Bitch you almost transfused all o’ it! You went and fell asleep
☠️☠️☠️☠️ Ack. Ackkk!
[Y'all, why have you not learned proper transfusion protocolsssss; y'all need other witnessessss! To make sure you don’t pass out! She legit took field med courses at Manticore. I know this because Alec mentions it later. How does she not know proper triage?!!??!]
These. Bastards. Do NOT. HAVE A CANDLE. LIKE IT’S A DINNER DATE. [Yes they do]
“I’M READY” tf?
Ack
WHAT TF [I think this is the same group of people from the Bruno episode] ack
Hunters funeral minus the death FIRST! ACK! BRUTAL [They don't feel it tho] ANDDDDDDD??? [True]
[Apparently the weird monologues are contagious] They areeee tho
But alas, she will
[NOO HIS ACCENT] I knowwww! Herbal. Your woman’s an idiot
[That poor dude! I loved that episode, but he didn't deserve it lakdsjf] I KNOWWWWW
WHY HE REACH FOR SKETCH’S… pencil… LIKE THAT???
[DUDE I WANNA KNOW HOW TO WHISTLE LIKE THAT]
Don’t do it man! They gon burn you at the stake!

[Gotta love random suspicious white dudes with buzz cuts and black trenchcoats; y'all ain't conspicuous at all]
OHHHH NOOOO
WELL DAMN! THAT WAS QUITE RUDE! [THEY KILL A DUDE… AND YOU TAKE ISSUE WITH THEM BEING. RUDE.] ☠️☠️☠️ I was calling them rude for killing him [I KNOW! YOU PROVE THE POINT!]
Sweeet lord [Apparently this whole episode is about people losing the stuff that makes them unique; Herbal lost his accent, and OC took a job that is literally so formulaic they're making her memorize a script.] Oooof 😦
Ye she’s gonna be done with this place soon
He gonna have a spinning fetus in his cornea now [Noooo]
Ouch [tbf, buddy did kinda bite off more than he could chew with that... It's like in *The Princess Bride*, when Westley jiggles his head and is like "yeah, that ain't gonna do us much good", except it's backwards, and Logan was like "ah, yes, let me stand upright on legs that haven't been used in months after having twitched an inch" ] Exactly
… Welp.
Ew. Ewwww! Why Kendra??? Whyyyyy????
[Max is a bit slow; the dude *is* Mr. Multiples] KENDRA WHYYYYY??? BLECh
Not a disfiguring accide- BOTH LEGS AND BOTH ARMS? WHAT IS THIS???
☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Gon back and apologize to Normal ma’am [She kinda needed to not burn that bridge. It always annoys me when characters do that] Right?! [George did that in Dead Like Me; changed jobs, pissed off her boss in the process, and then hated the new job and had to go back. I get they don't like Normal, but he's also very lax about a lot of stuff]
Oh noo! Rainy window scene
☠️☠️☠️☠️
I love herrrrr
“I want his ass to stay crippled so he needs me” [This is healthy, Max. Bravo.] And normal.
That’s commission jobs for you [Once again, btw: Normal's employment situation is wayyy better. Like, it might not be great, but at least it's better] Yeasss
[Also, at least Cindy didn't get attacked because they were looking for Max adlkfj]
Runnnnnnn Max Runnnnnnnnnnnn
Blech [REBAR] BLECHHHHHHHHHHH
SHES LIKE WTF
[This is proof: Dean could've made it off- I mean what] ☠️☠️☠️☠️ [This Red dude had a full-fledged pipe about four centimeters across through him; the rebar was only one centimeter at most]
☠️☠️☠️☠️ Blech! Ew!
Squeak
Ack
[Didn't- didn't they tell her this already? I swear they told her that outright in the Bruno ep]
Logan is like nooooo she my blood bank now [Nah, he's not that bad]
If they don’t get tf out of his neck imma pass out [You: Get tf out of his neck… Them: Oh, show you the neck? Okay!]
BLECHHH
[Maybe don't piss off your supersoldiers, dude] RIGHT?!? [They're way stronger than you]
Who is he?? The actor I mean? [Idk. I know him --- both of them --- but haven't looked him up.] CRIMINAL MINDS! That was it!
– – –
Jezebel: Aight sooo… so far we have learned that a.) post apocalyptic drs are as dumb as doctors in the real world… “oh you say you can feel this. You can move your toe. But that shouldn’t be possible so nah you’re wrong I'm right… 10000$ pls”
Wench: I don’t think he did actually move while there, but the point still stands
Jezebel: Two: Herbal without the accent makes me so sad! His girlfriend doesn’t deserve him!
Wench: I KNOWWWW. This is trueeee!
Jezebel: And tres: this has been the gahdamn bloodiest episode thus far and I do not appreciate it… 🤢🤢🤢🤢
– – –
I love OC so muchhhh [Me tooo]
Runnnnn boo!!! [I take back what I said about OC not getting attacked for Max's shite] 🥺🥺🥺🥺 ma’am better take out her own insurance
[I love he- OH SHIT IT'S *THIS* ONE] Aaaaaaahck! Neck shit
Blech
[tbf, she pulls off the bleeding eyes. Though the physical acting in this scene leaves much to be desired]
Welp now OC is gonna know [Yup] Tbf if I was max I’d be like look here woman!! I told you this already
“Do you see blood?” ye lots of it
[So much for Max's "too bad he's getting the use of his legs back"; his mobility is saving her life]
Blechhhhh
Aaachhkkkkkk
I’m over here dying; my husband’s laughing… Blech [Ma'am, it's stage blood and rubber skin]
Seizure stopped
I feel ya OC I FEEL YA
Blechhhh
["The truth" Ma'am, you tried that once already] ☠️☠️☠️ I think she’ll believe her this time tho ☠️☠️☠️
["I thought about telling you a million times" BRO SHE DID TELL YOU] And then she goes you ain’t gotta lie max.
Ooooop new ship unlocked 🤣🤣🤣 [I mean- OC does have a high degree of Respect for Max] Y’all just kiss and make up… sheeesh [OC is one of the first to act like Max is the leader despite her having 0 deserving traits] Awwwww… Think maybe this is why tho? [Yeah, I'm thinking… It's been something I wondered for a while]
Y'all, this scene is. SiStErLy fRiEnDsHiP
[Okay but can we talk about Normal following up his rant about her slacking off with "get some eye drops"??? That's vaguely sweet] This is very true
Oh, Normal, the smugness… I love it [ONCE AGAIN. Don't burn bridges until you're sure about stuff.]
[tbf, I think OC is a goddess, actually] SHE ISSS 😭😭
I LOVE THEMMMMM [HERBAL IS BACK! The real Herbal! The one who’s not pretending to be someone else!]
He’s gonna tickle her with his new moving toes
[Okay, that was a really weird shot, just saying] ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ [I swear, all of these episodes end with Max/Logan scenes…] Hmmm maybe… Just maybe… Cause they are the main characters ☠️🤣🤣🤣 [ Waits not so patiently for s2]
And now it works soo-
Oh ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Circlesssssssss
– – –
Jezebel: And another one bites the dust! One step closer to Bennnnnn!
Wench: :))) FINALLY! I have been waiting!
Jezebel: That’s gonna be quite the unhinged episode review…
Wench: IT WILL! *acts like a reporter and shoves a microphone at you* Got any thoughts before we get there?
Jezebel: 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m nervous! Mainly because I know how it ends
Wench: Oh nooo
Jezebel: And ya girls not readyyyy! Imma be over here crying; my husband will be laughing (again) and you’ll be trying to remind me Alec is only a few eps away… It’s gonna be a mess
Wench: It's the best ep of s1! Take the best episode you've seen and make it wayyy better!
Jezebel: 🙂 And for that I’m excited. Soooo like Nervocited? Pretty sure that’s on MLP ☠️☠️☠️
Wench: We still have so many episodessss (but I think the episode with Ishim is coming up too, and I remember liking that one. It was my favorite of the pre-Jackles eps)
Jezebel: Oooo 🙂
Wench: Okay, BUT. That's for the future, so… Endpoint thoughts?
Jezebel: I’m glad OC is in the loop now! Even though technicallyyyyy she always has been… she just didn’t know it 🤣 Wish the writers would have thought of that. It would have been cute banter… But alas they are stoopid 🤣 kidding… kinda
Wench: This is true!
Jezebel: The scene with Logan standing did in fact look weird.. would have been better to have him stand off screen and take a step into view
Wench: THANK YOU
Jezebel: I like Logan’s friend, but, as always my faves are still Jam Pony!
Wench: See, going back to the thing earlier… That's what kinda causes me a bit of issue with the OC/Max bit. Like, do I think it's a possibility? Definitely. But I'm not sure I want it to be? Max is a highly questionable character now, and she gets worse in s2, and I love OC, so I really want her to have a decent ending
Jezebel: Is there any OC/Max stuff out there? There has to be lol! And this is very trueee!
Wench: idk, you know me and my mostly-not-reading-fic. I read some of @witchy-writer-lady’s works, but that was basically the extent of my Dark Angel fandom involvement. (It was before I got access to the show and was curious about the plot with no other way of figuring out what was going on, so I peeked at the non-smut Alec fics on AO3)
Jezebel: But like maybe OC can change herrrr 👀☠️☠️
Wench: alsadflkjsf THIS IS TRUE! And also, I do sometimes do the thing where I'm like "Well, I don't like them, but if they make Favored Person happy, I guess it's okay..."
Jezebel: Fairrr… And! BLECCHHHHH! the blooooodddddygorrinesssssss!! I’m not ok! Neither are the dudes, tbf, but me most
Wench: This is fair… I think it's the goriest we get
Jezebel: I was like oh surely it won’t be— oh. It is— OH ITS BAD! ACK!
Wench: Deepest apologies! It was not the episode I thought it was, and I'd forgotten it existed! I couldn't have warned you if I wanted to :] There's an episode with Big Drama about the wheelchair thing
Jezebel: 🥺🥺🥺
Wench: That’s the episode I thought it was, and it was not! But anyway, that’s upcoming.
Jezebel: 😤😤😤 With that I think my last thought is… ACK

I really appreciate your mindset on this show and their relationships. Such a good point that they love each other differently and one is not better than the other. I think a lot of people probably think Dean loves Sam more, but that’s probably because a lot of his identity hinged on family in the earlier seasons while Sam’s didn’t. But that’s not really love, just dean being self-hating and devaluing himself like he does, lol. And you know Dean has that parenting dynamic with Sam too, so the instinct to constantly look after him. But Sam definitely loves him, just different ways of expressing it. And you are definitely right that their codependent love is what makes them so interesting.
So thank you for sharing your thoughts, they’re always great to read! Another question: Do you think if Dean stayed with Lisa (ie Sam never came back to life) that their relationship would have worked? Like would they have a sort of “happy ever after.” It’s honestly hard for me to imagine because I think Dean did love Lisa and Ben but I don’t know if he was IN love with Lisa. It was not that difficult for him to leave when Sam came back. What do you think?
Awww thank you nonnie! And thank you for sharing your thoughts, I agree with your analysis of Sam and Dean in the early seasons.
As for Lisa...
I have my issues with the relationship because the writing for it was so spotty. Dean and Lisa had a hot weekend together when they were what, 19? 20? Dean is 28 is season 3 and he says he met Lisa 9 years ago? And obviously there's a lot of nostalgia and happy memories on both sides for that long weekend, but taking that, giving them a couple of days together where they mostly interact to save Ben and then that's the basis for Dean going back to her twice to get her to safety from the apocalypse or say goodbye only to end up there after Sam jumps into the cage....
I think they were both very much in love with the idea of each other. To Dean, I think, Lisa represented the apple pie family life, with a dash of spice from her rebel youth and great sex. With Ben he got a kid/little brother he could parent. And he never wanted that while he had Sam--why would he, when hunting with Sam is the happiest he can be--but in the wake of Sam's absence and Sam's wish for him to go to Lisa, he does it. And I do think he enjoyed his time with her, that he genuinely loved her. The montage at the beginning of season 6 shows that they do work well together in their domestic life and that Dean does have moments of happiness. We still see the grief and the loss of Sam's absence, but a year later, Dean has learned to live his new life. I think Dean's always been way more adaptable than he gives himself credit for.
Why Lisa lets Dean into her life, I think, isn't a big mystery. That man literally saved her son's life, he's up for the job of being a dad because he's responsible and he cares, plus you know, there is that best-night-of-my-life thing and the general Dean-ness of him. Dean does question why she took him in when he was such a mess with the nightmares and the drinking, but I think there was a lot of gratitude involved and a lot of I can fix him. And from what we see, it did get better. And considering that later on, Lisa broke up with him when vampire Dean scared Ben, I don't think the beginning was as bad as Dean imagined, because Lisa is always portrayed as a very protective and caring mother and I can't see her letting a man in her life she doesn't trust around her son.
So. This is a long rambly way of saying that I do think they loved each other and that if Sam had stayed in the cage, they probably could have made it work. Even if Dean had caught a case at some point, he probably either would have called Bobby to give it to someone else or maybe taken care of it himself, but without Sam, he wouldn't have gone back to the life. Especially with the new responsibility of Ben. Who knows, maybe Ben became sort of a substitute Sam, in a way that there was someone who needed him, who he could look out for and that helped fill the hole. I think, maybe, Dean and Lisa had less of a chance of working if Ben hadn't been around. (following a line of thought here, I don't think Dean would have wanted to have his own kids with Lisa. Not with the whole knowledge of bloodlines and everything.)
I do think that Dean was IN love with Lisa. Everything in the show pointed to that. But. The whole Lisa and Ben thing can never reach the same level as his love for Sam, so Dean was always going to go back the moment Sam asked. Even though Dean was in love with her, and loved Ben, it still pales in contrast to his love for Sam. I think you can love someone romantically, and that can still not be the most important love in your life. I think in our culture, that values romantic love almost above all else, finding your soulmate, your other half etc etc, the only "acceptable" love to surpass that for your partner is that for your children. So seeing someone choose their brother over their significant other automatically makes us questioning whether he really loved her that much. And I think he did. And it doesn't really matter whether he loved Lisa or the idea of her, he just would always love Sam more. And I think it's beautiful that among all the romance above all else shows, we could have this too.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 274
The British Invasion/Thin Ice
“The British Invasion”
Plot Description: Mick is forced to confront his own disturbing past when Sam and Dean’s search for Kelly Kline leads to a deadly disaster
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: I….simply…probably not. I dunno
When Sam compared the BMoL school to [fandom redacted school], he wasn’t kidding. These kids are full on wearing robes. Oh. But even worse. The headmistress just made Mick kill another student
Awww, I like seeing Eileen back
Oooooo, poor Mick is in a tough bind between what he’s learned from even the limited time he’s had with the Winchesters and orders from the BMoL (I almost said ‘from above’ but that could implicate that Chuck was giving them, and we all know he’s doing jack shit right now)
Is Kelly having some doubts about having this baby? I mean. She should have many doubts, but is that why she’s insisting on the ultrasound?
Lol that awkward moment when your doctor asks you to tell him about the father of your baby, and the father is literally the devil
Of all the things that have turned my stomach while watching supernatural on my lunch, watching up close as Lucifer licks the grimy floor of hell might actually take the number one spot
I don’t believe Lucifer’s been beaten down this easily
Is it bad I’m JUST A LITTLE BIT shopping Mary and Ketch? I don’t want them to actually get together but this little dance they’re doing as they work hunting jobs together, the way he calls her Mrs Winchester, it’s not NOT intriguing
How is Cas not even in this episode (so far) and he’s still the funniest one in it? “This is my voicemail, make your voice a mail”
SEE? I knew he was lying. How am I smarter and wilier than the current king of hell?
What is this accent, Sam? It is all over the place
I love how little everyone cares about this guy Mick was forced to bring with him. Sure, Kendrick’s formal training is good in some ways but it’s still lacking
Ohhhh, that can’t be good for Hunter/BMoL relations. Eileen just shot the new guy. No. No, Mick. It DOES matter. She was aiming for Dagon, and you know it
Oh. Ok. So they noticed it, too. I mean. Mary, get it, girl, but him? Really? (I say as though my taste is any saner) Ketch, you need to work on your pillow talk.
Thing is, now that they got fucking each other out of the way, I do kind of like them as allies. I like that he appreciates that Mary is trying to make hunting and having familial relationships work. He seemed genuinely supportive of her. I hope I’m not wrong (but I could see him catching feelings for her but not the other way round)
Sam starting to learn sign language for Eileen ❤️
And NOW how do you feel about being Luci’s baby mama, Kelly? Now that you know it’s fatal? I’m curious what will win out. The Winchesters saving the day (with an abortion that probably will only be ok with the network because the mother’s life is in danger) or supernatural’s long standing misogyny?
Oh Mick. Are you about to die because you’re finally standing up for yourself?? Dammit, Ketch…
Huh. How’s that gonna work out? How, um, how’re you gonna go kill your new fwb’s sons?
“Thin Ice”
Plot Description: London, 1814. The Doctor and Bill investigate disappearances on the frozen river Thames
Been a while since I had to do a no whammies run for Doctor Who…but I got home and settled and just needed to rest my eyes for a little bit and suddenly it was almost 11pm
Yeah, I would have that look too if I stepped out into centuries ago London and saw an elephant
Bill and the Doctor both having a bit of a crush on the TARDIS is cute
Nowwwwww she’s getting the hang of time traveling. This frost fair looks fun and I’m glad Bill’s enjoying herself
They really are doing the barest minimum to address the fact that she could be in very real danger being a black woman in 1814
Oh…oh poor Bill. Be honest with her, Doc. She’s still new to this
I don’t believe you when you say you’ve never had the time for the luxury of outrage…
This little band of street urchins is so freaking cute
Yeah if nothing else from this show deterred me, these old ass diving suits they’re using to investigate in the frozen Thames, to intentionally get eaten by whatever’s at the bottom…couldn’t do it
The problem isn’t aliens, it’s capitalism.
I love Bill, don’t love how she’s being treated. Ten never tried to tamper down Donna (not that it would have worked), so why is Bill’s “temper” a problem for Twelve??
Oh. What happened to “passion fights but reason wins,” Doctor? Not that I actually mind you decking that lord in defense of Bill
The sonic screwdriver doesn’t do wood but it will do rope?? Oh no. It just makes a noise that attracts the little fish and that’s how they escape their captor
I wonder if there wasn’t a second reason the Doctor chose this face for a regeneration. Like…we know it’s too keep the promise to just save SOMEONE but to not make the decisions that should be left to humans
Maybe I’ve seen too many episodes but there are a LOT of parallels to a LOT of past episodes
Though he DID go off world, Nardole doesn’t know that, the one thing he DOES know technically took place on earth…just in the past
Oh I NRRF to know what’s in that vault

Yeeeep, it's definitely the longest chapter yet! And it will be the longest chapter in the story. The rest are 6K or shorter. 😮💨
God it really must suck for him to know that he only gets girls in bed because he pays for it in money or promotions or jewelry or whatever… no one actually wants him for his personality. That’s gotta be a low blow. I bet he drives one of those dumb trucks with the HUGE wheels or some souped up luxury car with no muffler to piss everyone off around him and when either of those cars pass you, you know the driver is compensating for their small penis.
Yep, that's the kind of guy we're dealing with. He's the slimiest of slime, and only his money can attract any kind of companionship.
Physical touch, physical touch, physical touch. Now every time I read something in this story with physical touch I can’t help but think I crossed your mind at least a little bit when writing it 😂😂😂 even if that is self-centered of me 😬
Ahaha not when I was writing it initially, because I've written these chapters weeks in advance, but sometimes when I was doing final edits for sure! 😂
I would totally have my arm looped around his while his hand was in his pocket and be holding his bicep with the other. There would be no way I wasn’t clinging to this man while walking at night
I don't blame you one bit! loll The reader's just feeling a bit off-kilter with him at the moment, else she'd probably be more affectionate.
Ughhhhh I want him just to move in with her already but I do appreciate that this is very much like a real relationship and not fanfic-y or movie-esque in the way that what you want to happen always happens and things in the relationship happen way faster than they ever would/could IRL
Yeah, with all the shit they're going through in this story, I tried to keep things like this as "real" as possible for believability. But she does technically end up moving in at the end of the chapter!! lol
Literally until just now I’d forgotten that Sam was a lawyer and he’s who she was referring to when she said she new a good lawyer to Nick 😂
Oh yep!! She was referring to Sam lol.
Obsessively worrying about other people is sweet but not very healthy, Dean
Ehh it's less obsessive and more like trauma. He was very rattled by what happened at the party, and he's very worried about her safety and feeling helpless as far as what he can do in the situation, so it's weighing heavily on his mind.
It’s good for him to get out of his mind though! He shouldn’t fixate so much on it!! Sometimes getting out of your head can help clear your perspectives or give you new ideas when you think about he problem later
Because of the intensity of his job and the focus it demands, he has learned to "turn things off" except for the job at hand.
Makes me think of Johnny in the outsiders 😭😭😭😭
Oh I haven't seen the Outsiders!
They seem to get grumpy with each other way faster than they used to and I know they’re stressed about other things and their relationship but still, this should be a safe space and concern should be validated and thanked to an extent
They're going through a lot right now, very stressed on both sides, with resentment on Dean's part. He's grumpy and lashing out a bit, and she knows he's upset, which is putting her off kilter as well.
That’s not like him, somethings off. I know he doesn’t agree with her and doesn’t like the situation but Dean doesn’t make his girl cry and then leave her standing there alone. Not my Dean. Something else is wrong.
Everyone has their breaking point, and Dean isn't perfect. He's not acting like himself, you're right, because the situation at large is stressing him out a lot. But he regrets leaving like that pretty quickly and does apologize. ❤️🩹❤️🩹
Dean’s hand rubbed up and down your back. You eventually had to look away and sigh. You pressed closer to his side, and he wrapped his good arm around your shoulders.
That’s my Dean.
Yep, he got a wakeup call when her life was threatened in a different way!
But Dean, you’ve been through her family’s stuff too…
It's the classic Dean syndrome of him thinking the people close to him getting hurt is always his fault somehow.
“Thank you for always being there for me,” you said. He couldn’t see your smile, but somehow, he knew it was there. But he could also hear you sniffle, and feel your body tremble with tears.
I feel like they’re starting to get back to their old selves a little bit. It’s still heavy and there’s some tension there, but at least they seem to be halfway-united again.
You'd be right about that! In the next chapter they do some much-needed reconnecting and get back on the same page. ❤️🔥❤️🔥

Part 14: “Message in a Bottle”
A week before Christmas, John Winchester left his house for work before the sun had even risen in the sky. It was still dim when he stepped out onto his porch, which is why he didn’t see it at first.
He heard the clink when his boot kicked at something metallic.
He glanced down and found a small badge lying on the ground. He bent to pick it up, and on further inspection, it was a fire department’s badge. A replica, probably, because it had Dean’s number on it: 20579.
The badge was also splattered with blood.
Later at his office, John handed it over to his partner for his inspection.
“It’s actually paint,” John said. “Forensics looked it over. No prints, of course.”
“That’s a shame,” Cas said. His tone was mild, but his face was as grave as John’s as he considered the crimson-stained badge. They stood together in the bullpen of the 84th Precinct.
“And I got this little present a few days ago,” John admitted quietly. He grabbed a folder off his desk and showed Cas its contents: a picture of Sam leaving the courthouse while talking on his cell, climbing into his car. Someone was watching his sons.
“I already have a police detail on him,” John said, heaving a sigh. “I requested approval for Dean’s this morning.”
Cas’s frown was deepening, along with his furrowed brows. “We may need to ask for backup on this.”
John shook his head. “Rufus won’t give it to us.”
Their esteemed Lieutenant thought John was on a vendetta with a ghost, stirring up a conflict of his own making. He only approved a temporary police detail for Sam, with the condition that John stopped what he was doing, let the Fire Department handle the serial arsonist, and let this blow over.
But Rufus should’ve known better than that by now. This was personal, and John wouldn’t tolerate these yellow-bellied threats to his family.
“Azazel’s applying pressure, hitting your weak spots,” Cas said, perhaps pointing out the obvious.
“So let’s hit him back, goddamn it,” John growled. He threw down the folder back onto his desk.
“How?” Cas asked. “We still don’t know who Azazel is.”
The other man thought hard, rubbing a hand over his mouth, and feeling the overgrown stubble. He didn’t remember the last time he’d shaved.
“How’s your progress on questioning Savage & Co.?” he asked.
“Stalled. Nick Savage has lawyered up,” said Cas.
His face slackened from frustration to realization. He didn’t seem happy about his next idea, but it looked like he had one.
“Though now that I think of it, we may be able to apply some pressure of our own,” he said.
John raised a brow and crossed his arms. “How’s that?”
“Dean’s girlfriend works there, if you remember,” Cas said. “Something happened this past weekend at her company Christmas party.”
John nodded, despite his frown. He was set to meet you in a week, but it looked like they might need to question you before then. What a pleasant first meeting that was going to be.
But if you had anything on Savage, on the company, or even better, if you were willing to wear a wire, that could be the break they needed to get some headway on this case. They could squeeze Savage for any information he might have on Azazel—like his real identity.
“Tell me,” John said.
You returned to work on Monday with steel in your veins (and a taser in your purse).
You had about an hour of peace in your office, catching up on your emails and calls. Then there was a knock on your door before it pushed open without your consent.
Damn it, should’ve locked it. Your lips pursed when Nick Savage came in.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” you said firmly. Already you were opening a drawer in your desk, reaching into your purse.
“It’s my goddamn office,” Nick replied lazily. But he crossed his arms and stopped just behind the spare chair that sat in front of your desk. It gave you a good few feet of distance.
You stared back at the man with hidden satisfaction through your disdain. It seemed Dean’s threats got to him.
“Just thought I’d let you know that Josh’s been promoted to Senior Sales Manager,” Nick said. He checked his watch absently.
Your teeth clicked in irritation, but you let it pass. He was just trying to get a rise out of you, and you no longer gave a fuck about this company anyway. What you told Dean before was the truth: you were now here just to collect a paycheck, until you could find a new job.
“Good. He’s been working hard, kissing your ass,” you said with a fake smile. “Now if you don’t mind, I have a lot of work to do.”
Nick made the mistake of taking a half-step forward. Your hand subtly clenched on the weapon in your purse, but you tried your best to seem relaxed. In control of yourself. This was your office that you’d occupied for three years.
This was your space, and this man didn’t control you.
“Take one step forward, and I will quit today,” you threatened. And then you bluffed.
“I’ll call Mr. Greenway,” you said. “In fact, he offered me a job last month. Then I’ll make a few more calls, and I’ll take all of my accounts with me. I’ll kill your fucking sales team and leave Josh to continue sucking your lackluster tequila dick.”
Nick stared back at you with thinly veiled shock. You’d always been “no nonsense,” but you’d never spoken to him like that before. He smirked.
This was why he liked you. And hated you.
“All right,” Nick said. He didn’t come any closer, but he did rest his hands on the back of the chair. “How about I buy out your friend Greenway. His whole damn company. And then I’ll blacklist you with every other company that calls for a reference. Even the ones that don’t call.”
Your eyes widened incredulously. He had the gall to wink at you, boiling your blood.
“I’ll fucking sue you,” you said, hating the slight tremor in your voice.
Nick rolled his eyes. “This again? Please.”
You couldn’t help it. Your temper snapped, and you pushed away from your desk to stand up. You gripped the edge of it to steady yourself. You quirked a humorless smile.
“As it happens, I know a damn good lawyer,” you countered. “He puts murderers in jail every day. I doubt he’d struggle too much with a corporate asshole. And I’ll remind you, Dean’s father is a police officer. I’m sure he’d like nothing better than to lock you up after I report you for what you did. And I will.”
Nick scoffed at that, his eyes narrowing.
“If you take it there, I’ll have every resource at my disposal to make your life a living hell. I’ll drag this out for years. Until you’ve got nothing but your boyfriend’s charity to keep you from living in a fucking box.”
You were seething, trying to stay in control. He knew it too, and he smirked at you. He pushed away from the chair and started to leave.
But then, he tossed you a smug look over his shoulder.
“Just remember,” he said. “You could’ve just spread those legs for me.”
It took everything you had within you not to hurl a stainless steel stapler at the back of his retreating head.
“A double please, Ellen. Dry, lots of olives,” you requested.
After a ridiculously long day at work, you were now trying to let go of your frustrations at the Roadhouse, while you still had the money to drink. You rubbed through the ache in your temples.
“Long day, hun?” Ellen asked you. Her eyes were sympathetic as she made you the martini you ordered. You gave her an attempt at a smile.
“Long life,” you muttered.
“Hmm. Asshole boss?” she surmised.
You met her gaze with a note of suspicion. “Did Dean tell you…”
You knew he’d told his brother about what happened at the Christmas party. And you had a feeling he’d told Cas as well, to try and see what you could do from a law enforcement standpoint. The first step was filing a report. Now you knew, however, that you couldn’t. Not if you wanted your life to remain in one piece.
“Nothing, hun,” Ellen shook her head. “You’ve just got that look. I reckon every woman in the world has worn that face. Usually because of a man.”
You sighed and chuckled at the same time. It loosened some of the tightness in your shoulders.
“Yeah, well. This one’s a rat bastard in human clothing,” you replied.
“Ooh, sounds like my old biology professor,” Jo chimed in. She was drying out some newly clean glasses behind the counter along with Ellen. “He had a reputation for scoping out freshman girls.”
You made a gagging sound as you reached for the delectable martini glass Ellen slid your way.
“Men are disgusting,” you said. Jo snorted.
“99.8% of them, yeah,” she said. But her gaze drew towards the door when Dean Winchester came in. And she added, “A few of ‘em are all right.”
Was it just you, or was there a softer look in her blue eyes when she noticed Dean?
You were soon distracted though, giving your boyfriend a smile to try and cover up how exhausted you were, in every sense of the word. He greeted you with a warm hand along your lower back. He dropped a kiss to your forehead.
“Waiting long?” he asked.
“No, just a few minutes,” you shook your head. You laid a hand on his thigh when he took a seat next to you at the bar. “How was your shift?”
This week he was on three 12-hour shifts instead of his usual 24-hour shifts, which meant you got more of him in the evening.
“Fine. Just a couple of accidents to clear off the road, nothing major,” he replied. He ordered a beer from Ellen and gave Jo a smile. He was surprised to see mother and daughter working civilly together under one roof, after the scene he saw last week.
“How’s the studying going?” he asked Jo, once Ellen was out of earshot to serve further down the line. He turned to you and filled you in. “Jo’s gearin’ up to hit the Police Academy.”
“Oh wow, that’s great!” you remarked.
Jo glanced over at her mom, but then she smiled, looking back at you and Dean. She focused on him.
“The test is in a few weeks,” she said. “I think I’m ready, but I don’t know…”
“You’ll be fine,” Dean said, with easy conviction. “You’re stubborn enough to know it’s what you want. So I got no doubts about you.”
Jo’s smile was warm, with a hint of shy and gratefulness. You smiled at Jo encouragingly, but inside, you had a familiar unease churning inside your gut.
Dean then turned to you with expectant brows. His fingers brushed a strand of hair away from your cheek, curling it behind your ear.
“And how was your day?” he asked. His tone was quieter, laced with double meaning.
Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed Jo moving on to another waiting customer with a small sigh.
You met Dean’s gaze and you nodded. “It was fine.”
His brows rose a touch higher. “Very convincing. You took the taser with you, right?”
You sighed and had to smile a little. His concern warmed you, made you feel protected, even though you’d had to do that part yourself today. You soothed a hand over his chest, between the open panels of his plaid shirt.
“Yes, I did. I’m okay, baby. We’re at a standstill,” you said. And you reminded him, “I can handle myself, you know.”
Dean nodded, sighing through his nose. His hand rubbed up and down your back, whether to comfort you or himself, you didn’t know. Your fingers curled into his shirt, and you smiled up at him, just before you tugged him down for a kiss.
It was slow and sweet, until you became a bit more than sweet, grazing his bottom lip with your teeth. His hand came up to cup the back of your head as he accepted the warmth of your kiss.
You knew that you couldn’t tell Dean what happened this morning in your office. He’d likely go for the Halligan in his trunk and beat Nick Savage within an inch of his life.
While the idea appealed to you for several reasons, you didn’t want to be the reason Dean lost his badge, or ended up in jail.
So over a couple of drinks, you distracted him by having a healthy debate over what you two were going to have for dinner later: sushi or pizza.
You ultimately won with sushi. (Or maybe he let you win. Either way, you were getting salmon rolls tonight.)
Still, you had that uneasy feeling when you and Dean left the bar. You wondered how the hell it had taken you this long to notice the starry look of longing in Jo’s eyes.
You fell into step with Dean as you two headed for the sushi restaurant down the street. It was already dark out, but even on a Tuesday night, the streets and sidewalks of downtown were busy.
“Can I ask you something…potentially uncomfy?” you said.
Dean’s head turned to you, with a raised brow.
“Uncomfy?”
You let out a breath, and you could see it on the December chill in the air. Your hands were tucked into your pockets, and so were Dean’s in his.
“Did you and Jo ever have a thing?” you asked.
Dean blinked, but then his lips pressed together. “What makes you say that?”
You sent him a suspicious look. You’ve known him long enough to know when he’s hedging.
“Just please, answer the question,” you said.
He blew out a breath. After a moment, he nodded.
“Yeah, for a few weeks,” he admitted.
You sighed. That sure explained a hell of a lot. And really, with his track record, you couldn’t be surprised.
“You dated her, or you hooked up with her?” you clarified. Dean shot you a look.
“Dated,” he said, rubbing a hand over his mouth.
Your brows furrowed. “When?”
He’d told you that he’d been in one relationship before, briefly…
“About a few months before I met you,” he said at last. But he saw the incredulous, almost upset look on your face. “Obviously it didn’t work out.”
“You couldn’t have told me that earlier?” you asked. Your hands slipped out of your pockets to gesture at him. “How did it end?”
The man sighed, looking up at the sky.
“Come on, Dean,” you prodded.
“All right,” he placated with a hand. “It didn’t end great, put it that way.”
You couldn’t help a frustrated huff. You crossed your arms and kept walking beside him down the street, albeit in silence.
Dean glanced at you in slight exasperation. He was with you now. Why did it matter to you so much?
“She still has feelings for you,” you said, though you still weren’t looking at him.
“How do you figure?” he asked. But if he was honest, even he knew the truth.
“Because I could see her eyeing you like a honey glazed ham,” you snipped. At that, he let out an incredulous chuckle.
“Are you jealous?” he teased.
You stopped walking and looked up at him, frowning. “Do you want me to be?”
Dean stopped as well. He sobered, realizing you weren’t in the mood for jokes. You’d been through a lot recently, and he knew then that you didn’t need this kind of stress on top of everything else. He drew closer and gently grasped your arms.
“Don’t worry about it,” he said. Though he thought to himself, I’ll talk to Jo if I have to.
You sighed in frustration, but he soothed his hands up and down your arms. His touch plied you, along with his smile.
“Hey,” Dean said, dipping his chin so he could catch your eyes. “You should know how I feel about you by now.”
You sighed and nodded in agreement. He wasn’t satisfied.
“Hey,” he said, squeezing your arms and earning your eyes on him. It took him a moment, letting out a breath, but he was honest.
“I love you," he reminded. "And if that damn elevator hadn’t broke down on you, I’d still be missing something.”
…Damn it, you thought, even as a blushing smile grew across your face. Dean Winchester was too smooth for his own good.
But you also saw the sincerity in his eyes. You couldn’t help but be warmed by his words, down to your toes.
“There she is. All right,” he said with a grin. He nodded in satisfaction and gathered you into his arms. “My soft girl again.”
Your smile deepened, but you still pinched his side, making him flinch and laugh. You held him back and looked up at his handsome face. He still looked amused and his eyes were warm. You leaned up on your toes for a kiss that lingered on wind-chilled lips.
“I love you,” you whispered back, against his lips.
His smile against yours was your answer.
Two hours and two salmon rolls later, Dean drove you home. You had taken an Uber to the Roadhouse, which reminded him that he needed to make another trip to Singer Salvage.
He’d been scoping out potential cars to fix up for you. He’d even recruited Bobby’s help to find something good, something with strong bones. Dean could do the rest.
Even after he watched you get inside your house safely, he let out a subtle breath before he peeled away. He wished you were coming home with him tonight. More often, he was feeling your absence when you weren’t in his bed. But it also reassured him, that he knew you were safe with him and Sam at their apartment.
He later found his brother eating leftover chicken parmesan at the kitchen counter.
“Why’re you eating standing up?” Dean asked, tossing his keys onto the counter. He reached into the fridge for a beer. “You look like Big Bird if he wore a suit.”
Sam sent him a dry look. “I don’t know. Force of habit.”
He barely had time in his day for an uninterrupted coffee, let alone a meal. When Dean wasn’t here, Sam fell back onto his work habits. He took his plate and actually went to the table.
“You eat already?” he asked. Dean nodded and said he’d eaten with you.
“Oh yeah? How’s she doing?” Sam asked.
Dean sighed and sank down heavily onto the chair opposite his brother. He rubbed at his forehead.
“She’s okay, considering,” he replied. But he knew you hadn’t told him the whole story about how your day went at work. Whether you were trying to spare him, or protect him, or yourself, it still drove him up the wall. Knowing Nick Savage was still your boss, and he was there, an ever-present threat just a few floors above you in that building…
It made Dean’s skin crawl. It had his teeth grinding and coiled his spine tight with repressed rage. And worry.
He met his brother’s eyes. Sam had been watching him, hiding his wariness.
“What can we do about him?” Dean asked. He knew he didn’t have to explain who he was talking about.
Sam started to shake his head, but Dean wouldn’t have it.
“I mean it, Sam. Because I almost…” His hand and forearm clenched and unclenched on the table. He could almost feel the way his arm had pressed into Nick’s throat, slowly but surely crushing his trachea. Just a couple of minutes more, and Dean could’ve done it. In that moment, he saw it so clearly.
It was the first time he’d ever wanted to take a man’s life.
“I know,” Sam said. His brows furrowed in sympathy. “But you did the right thing.”
Dean’s lips pursed as his hand once again fisted on the table.
“If I hadn’t been there,” he said. “If I had been just a few minutes off…”
These were the what ifs that kept plaguing his mind, ever since the party. Sometimes, it added to the catalogue of waking nightmares that wouldn’t let him sleep.
“And now she’s gotta go back there, every day, where that animal is just waiting for an opportunity,” Dean gritted out. Then his fist dropped more heavily onto the table, rattling Sam’s silverware.
Sam held the table steady and looked at his brother, calm but firm.
“You can’t touch Savage,” he said. “Don’t even go near him. Whatever you do, he’ll use it against you, and potentially against her. Unfortunately, she’s got the best plan right now.”
Dean looked up at him with angry eyes.
“Wait him out,” Sam said, “until he makes a mistake he can’t easily cover up. In the meantime, she’ll find a new job and get the hell out of there.”
Dean forced a sharp breath through his nose. He leaned back in his chair and tapped his fist more calmly on the table.
“I don’t have to like it,” he said.
Sam nodded in agreement. “No, you don’t.”
The fire was wild. It was eating up the four-story apartment building in a full blaze. The Truck 79 team was geared up outside of it, with Chief Singer already calling out instructions along with Dean.
Benny and the Rescue Squad were already on the roof, rappelling down to get the ones trapped on the top floors out through the windows. Dean was on the ground. He had Gordon, Jack, and a few others behind him. Meg and Chuck were on standby, waiting for the firefighters to pull out any residents still trapped inside.
Dean had to wonder if he was walking into another arson, like the Richardson fire. Against his will, he thought of that day. He thought about everything his father had told him about that arson, about Azazel and his mom’s death. He thought about you, working for a man who was potentially tied to Azazel.
“Winchester,” Gordon tapped him on the arm. “You good?”
Dean glanced over at him, then nodded.
“Yeah. Let’s rock and roll.”
When Dean was at work, he couldn’t let the outside world into his mind. All he could let himself focus on was the scene ahead after he put his mask on.
Inside the first floor of the building was like entering a living furnace. It was hot as shit, and layers of smoke choked the room. The mask was the only reason Dean could see, let alone breathe.
He turned to Jack. “All right, take it room by room. Stay close. We don’t got a lot of time.”
Jack nodded his agreement, and Dean split his team. A few of the others took the first floor on his orders. Dean, Gordon, and Jack would take the old stairs to clear the second floor.
Fuck. This whole place is just wood and plaster, Dean thought, shaking his head. These old buildings were all the same. Easy to build, easy to knock down. And usually they weren’t up to code, often thanks to cheap property owners.
He got apartment 201 open with his Halligan. The shoebox studio was smokey as all hell, but it was clear of any tenants. Gordon moved on ahead quickly, but Dean’s brows furrowed as he listened to the unsteady creaking of the floorboards. He moved more carefully forward.
Until he felt the warmth under his boots, saw the orange glow underneath a thin patch of flooring.
“Walker, wait!” Dean called, at the same time he held Jack back.
He reached out, just as the wood floor splintered and broke underneath Gordon. His eyes flashed wide just before he fell.
Dean dove for him. His Halligan clattered away, but he managed to grab onto the man’s sleeve before he disappeared. Gordon grabbed onto Dean’s arm and nearly pulled him down too. Luckily, he managed to grab onto the splintered edge with his other glove-covered hand. He gritted his teeth at the strain of the other man hanging off his shoulder, but he didn’t dare let go.
Jack grabbed Dean’s belt to keep him from sliding further down. It let him grab onto Gordon with both hands. The men panted for breath; Dean had a better vantage point to see that the middle of the ground floor below was engulfed in flames. The glow of it flared in the corner of Gordon’s eyes. He could feel the heat making both of them sweat.
The wood flooring under Dean creaked ominously, but before anyone could move, it broke further. He almost lost his grip on Gordon as his torso hung over the edge. He managed to get a new stronghold under the other man’s arm, and Jack did his best to keep Dean from falling by pinning his legs down. Jack was strong, but he was still a smaller man than Dean.
“Jack, call for backup!” Dean gritted out. Jack nodded behind him and radioed in for help.
Gordon stared up at Dean with wide, but resigned eyes. “The floor’s gonna cave before you can pull me up.”
Dean stared down at him, even as lines of sweat poured down his forehead from within his mask. They both knew that if that happened, Dean would be pulled along for the ride down, maybe even Jack too. Dean gave a sharp shake of his head.
“Just hold on. Backup’s comin’,” he said. All his strength was going into keeping a firm grip on the man’s arm and jacket. He called to Jack over his shoulder. “Can you get next to me and grab him?”
To his credit, Jack tried. But the jagged edges of the floor around Dean were unsteady, creaking and groaning under Jack’s added weight, a bit too much.
“Stop, stop!” Dean shouted, halting Jack’s movements.
Gordon licked his dry lips and blinked sweat out of his eyes. “This might be the part where you let go, Winchester.”
Dean took exactly a beat to process his shock. Then he glared down at the man.
“Shut the hell up, Walker. You don’t let go, you hear me?” he barked. “Jack, grab the back of my jacket and my belt.”
Jack followed the order, and a combination of him pulling Dean up and Dean straining every muscle he had to heft up Gordon slowly, painfully, brought them back up and over the ledge.
Jack had an easier time then of helping Dean pull Gordon the rest of the way out of the hole.
And the rest of their Truck crew came to help them onto their feet, before the fire consumed the rest of the second floor.
Once Dean was out of the building, he took off his mask and breathed in cooler air on his face. He made a beeline for the fire truck. In the back was a cooler, and grabbed a bottle of water to dump over his overheated head and face while he caught his breath. Gordon and Jack were following suit, and the men stared and one another. All of their faces said the same thing.
We made it. We’re alive. That was almost fucked.
Gordon’s gaze met Dean’s, sobering further. For a moment, he looked like he was searching for words.
“How’s your shoulder?” he asked eventually.
Dean nodded, rotating his right arm. He was going to feel that bitch tomorrow.
“Fine,” he said. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” Gordon nodded. Another hesitation, followed by an honest gaze. “Thanks, Lieutenant.”
Dean’s face broke into a smile, wry but also genuine. “Yeah, thank me by layin’ off the burgers.”
He swatted the other man’s stomach and went for three more waters. He handed two of them to Jack and Gordon. One was smiling, while the other just smirked and shook his head.
“You callin’ me hefty?” Gordon remarked. “I’m averaging 6% body fat, man.”
Dean scoffed. “Yeah, right. What’re you, the Rock? That’s why you almost sunk.”
He dropped his fist into the air and made an exploding sound. Jack was wide-eyed, but Gordon just chuckled. They started making their way to the front of the truck to start packing up their gear. The Truck and Rescue teams had done what they could, and all the residents that made it out of the building were being seen to by the paramedics.
“I’d rather be weighed down by muscle than all them Little Debbie’s you’ve been putting away at the station,” Gordon shot back. “Cheap cake is not your friend.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “All right, that’s just uncalled for.”
“Dean,” Chief Singer called, beckoning him over with a hand. His free hand wore a glove as he held something steaming.
Dean nodded at his men and joined Bobby outside his department-issued SUV. Dean’s gaze focused on the bottle-shaped object in Bobby’s hand. There was a small digital box attached to the front, with wires wrapped around. The entire device was now blackened, but the smell of chemicals was unmistakable.
“Molotov cocktail?” Dean quipped, but his face was as grave as Bobby’s. The Chief nodded.
“Lafitte pulled this out of the fourth floor,” he said. “Looks like the same kind of incendiary device Arson found at the Richardson fire.”
That night, you made dinner for Dean at your house. He was forced to explain what happened at the apartment building, and why he had his arm pinned to his side like a chicken wing. You made him sit down and relax, all while you tried to hide your worry and relief that he was mostly all right.
Later in the living room, you sat on your knees beside him on the couch and lifted the bag of ice from his shoulder. You peered at it in concern, gently rubbing your hand over the joint and surrounding muscle. Dean sighed through his nose as your gentle touch was both soothing and painful.
“Are you sure you should do another shift tomorrow?” you asked, replacing the ice. He shot you a glance.
“I’m fine,” he said.
“Right,” you said dryly. “That’s why you can barely move this arm.”
Dean rolled his eyes and made his point by raising his right arm, slowly, but easily back down.
“I’ll be up and running by tomorrow. Just need a good night’s sleep.”
“Dean, are you sure? You seem to be in a lot of pain,” you asked.
He tried to hold in his annoyance. “I think I’d know if I’m fine.”
“You forget, I know all too well what downplaying looks like,” you countered, giving him a chiding look. Dean didn’t appreciate it. He didn’t need you to mother him.
“This is my job, all right,” he said.
You gave him a steady look. Your hand moved up his shoulder to rest along the back of his neck. Your fingers slipped into his hair.
“I know that. But I’m allowed to worry,” you said. Your brows furrowed. “Please don’t get upset at me for that.”
Dean let out a breath. He relaxed against the couch and met your gaze. He knew he had no right to ask you not to worry about him.
“Yeah, okay,” he said.
To you, he still seemed a bit annoyed. You nodded and continued to gently sift your fingers through his hair. You had to wonder if his resentment was coming from a different place.
“Are you still mad at me for going back to work?” you tested.
Dean breathed out deeper this time, but he didn’t answer.
Bingo, you thought with a frown.
“Dean—”
“All I want is for you to be safe,” he said. His voice was harder as his face tightened up. His hand gestured in frustration. “This whole thing…that fucking douchebag…it’s killing me. Fucking killing me. And you know that.”
Your eyes softened, and you unconsciously bit your lip.
“Ditto,” you tried to joke. It landed flat, because your boyfriend was deadly serious.
He looked away from you with pursed lips and a frustrated shake of his head. You sidled closer to him and tried to soothe, with a hand on his chest.
“Look, I’m trying to find a new job, but it takes time,” you said.
“You could quit. You could quit right now,” Dean replied hotly.
You sighed; you couldn’t believe you had to remind him about this. “I can’t, Dean. I have bills to pay, just like you do. You think I like this situation any more than you? I’m the one who’s had to deal with this for months!”
“I know that!” Dean snapped back. “Or should I say, now I do.”
He pulled away from your touch and pushed off the couch, onto his feet. You looked up with your mouth agape as he left the room. You got up and followed after him.
“You’re leaving?” you asked in shock. You watched him grab his keys and his wallet from the kitchen counter.
“I’ve got a long shift tomorrow and I gotta sleep,” Dean said, rather gruffly.
You followed him all the way to the door, where you grabbed onto his wrist. He stopped in the doorway, glancing back at you over his shoulder.
“Dean, please,” you implored. “Don’t go like this.”
After a beat, he seemed to soften. Just enough to lean over and press a brief kiss to the side of your head.
“I gotta go.”
He left you in the doorway with tears swimming in your eyes, and he pretended not to notice them.
When Dean woke up the next morning, his shoulder still ached, and he still felt guilty. He rubbed the offending join and tried to slowly roll the stiffness out of his arm. Fuck.
He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes next. They blearily took in the digital numbers on his alarm clock: 5:00 a.m.
He slid out of bed and got ready for work. He definitely wanted to check in with Arson about the device that likely started that fire, and he knew his dad would need to be brought in on it. It would give Dean a reason to press John for an update on his investigation.
By 6:00, he was finishing his coffee, about ready to head over to the station. He could hear the pipes running, meaning Sam was in the shower.
Dean was startled only slightly by his phone vibrating in his pocket. His brows furrowed, but he fished it out and found your name crossing the screen, along with a smiling picture of you. He sighed.
Part of him hesitated. If you were calling just to try and convince him to call out of work, he was going to get worked up again. And he’d rather not have anything disturb his first cup of coffee of the day.
Still, he answered. “Hey.”
“Dean, did you come into the house last night?” you asked.
He didn’t like the wary, almost scared tone of your voice.
“No.” His brows furrowed. “Why?”
“Look at the text I just sent you.”
He put you on speaker so he could check his messages. Sure enough, he found a picture from you. It was of a glass bottle-shaped object on your nightstand. There was a black box attached, but its digital screen was blank. Dean’s breath caught in his lungs as his eyes widened. His heart dropped into his stomach.
“Dean, what is this thing?” you asked. Your voice was shakier, more worried. “It looks like a bomb. And it smells awful, like chemicals.”
“Don’t touch it,” he said quickly. “Get out of the house…better yet, wait for me at your neighbor’s place. I’m coming over right now.”
And I’m calling Dad.
Dean tried his best to calm you while the police and the Arson Department swept your entire house for devices, fingerprints, and any other evidence on who broke in.
You had a hand over your mouth by the front door as you watched them turn over cushions, move tables and shelves, ruck through cabinets. Your entire life turned inside out.
Dean’s hand rubbed up and down your back. You eventually had to look away and sigh. You pressed closer to his side, and he wrapped his good arm around your shoulders.
“It’s gonna be okay,” he said quietly, and kissed the top of your head. Inside, he was furious. Mostly at himself.
If anything had happened to you last night, after he left…he would’ve never forgiven himself.
So it was a welcome distraction when John and Cas’s police car finally pulled into the driveway. Dean led you outside, away from the chaos happening in your house.
“Hey, Dad,” he said, with a nod at Cas. Both men nodded back.
“Son,” John greeted, His brown eyes turned to you next. He offered you a hand. “Good to finally meet you, despite the circumstances.”
You blinked up at him and curled a stray strand of hair behind your ear, a bit nervously.
“Oh, it’s…it’s great to meet you, Mr. Winchester,” you said, sticking out your hand and shaking his.
A smile flickered across Dean’s lips. He realized then that this was the first time you were meeting his father. You were adorably nervous.
A reserved smile tugged at his father’s lips as well.
“John’s just fine.”
You smiled back, with a bit of a blush tinging your cheeks.
“Now, can you tell me what happened here?” John asked you, not unkindly.
Dean’s good humor faded away as he explained about the device left on your nightstand. He filled them in about the fire he’d responded to yesterday as well.
“What the hell is happening, Dad?” he demanded to know.
John let out a breath and nodded, swiping a hand through his dark hair.
“It’s another one of Azazel’s signatures,” he said, lowering his voice so only the four of them could hear. “It’s a message.”
“To who?” Dean asked.
“To me,” John said. “Warning me to back off the case…there’ve been other threats. I’ve finally got a police detail on Sam, and I just got approval for you. I’ll add her to the list.”
John glanced at you. Your eyes widened in confusion as you tried to hold in your fear.
“Who the hell is Azazel?” You turned to Dean. “Is this…does this have something to do with your mom’s killer?”
John’s brows shot up at his son. “You told her?”
“You’re over here talking about him too,” Dean retorted. He gathered you closer and met his father with steely eyes, to mask how his gut was churning with worry.
“You need to get this guy,” Dean said, almost through gritted teeth. “Get him now.”
John agreed with a nod.
Once again, you covered a trembling hand over your mouth. Dean squeezed your side a bit to earn your attention.
“I want you to come stay with me,” he said. His tone was boding no argument, not that you would. You nodded and fairly melted against him. Your head rested against his chest.
“Dean, this is insane,” you whispered.
He nodded and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “I know. I’m sorry…I’m so fucking sorry about this.”
You looked up at him, your brows furrowing. “It’s not your fault.”
Dean met your gaze, but he couldn’t quite believe you. He was the one who kept pushing his dad for answers, to let him in on this. This was his family’s bullshit, not yours. You didn’t deserve to get dragged into it too.
The spell between you two was broken by Cas, awkwardly clearing his throat.
“We do need to ask you some questions,” he said. “About Nick Savage.”
You frowned. You peeled yourself away from Dean enough to face the detectives.
“What does he have to do with this?” you asked.
“His company is linked to a money laundering scheme, which ultimately leads back to Azazel,” Cas explained. “But we’re having trouble getting through his wall of lawyers.”
You scoffed. “Not surprising.”
However, it did worry you that Nick was possibly doing business with a criminal. Not that that should surprise you either.
“What do you want to know?” you asked.
“Well, first of all, would you be willing to file a police report,” Cas said, more gently, “regarding your assault at his home.”
Your eyes widened. Your mouth fell open slightly before you looked over at Dean. His face tightened, along with his hand on the curve of your waist.
“Why do you need me to do that?” you asked Cas.
“It’ll give us the leverage we need to dig deeper into his business,” John said. “Knock loose any shady dealings. We could get him to cough up what he knows about Azazel.”
You wanted to help, but at the same time, you were reluctant to mire yourself deeper in this. Dean saw your reservations, and he could guess why.
“Won’t that just paint a bigger target on her back?” he asked.
“We’re gonna protect her,” John promised. His eyes went from Dean, back to you. “But we need your help. This could be the break we need to get to Azazel. To find out who this bastard is.”
John could see your indecision. “All you need to do is fill out the report. Maybe get up in court to testify.”
You tightened up at that. “Testify?”
“If it gets that far,” John nodded.
“I don’t think so,” you shook your head. “That man can make my life hell without a serial killers help.”
You looked to Dean for support.
In the beginning, he had all but begged you to do what his father and Cas were asking. But now, this was just too much. He pressed you more securely to his side.
“Dean?” his father prodded.
“You heard her,” Dean said. “It’s her choice.”
You sighed and held onto the back of his shirt gratefully. The detectives shared a look, with John’s brows furrowing. He regarded you with a gruff, slightly strained look.
“Listen, don’t you want Savage in a cold hard cell?” he asked. “You could put him there.”
“Dad, she said no. Lay off,” Dean’s tone sharpened. Unfortunately, he knew how stubborn the man could be.
“Dean, I’m trying to nail this guy, but I’m missing pieces,” John said. “Right now, I can’t do it without her.”
“Well, figure it out,” Dean snapped.
John frowned in near disbelief. "Excuse me?"
“Look, I know where your priorities are, but mine is making sure she’s safe," said Dean. "If you can’t handle that, then we’ve got a problem!”
The strength of his retort took everyone by surprise, but no one more so than John. He hid it well behind a deepening frown.
He glanced between you and his son. You were looking up at Dean with unshed tears in your red-rimmed eyes, grateful, and holding on tight to his shirt. He still held you to him. His entire frame was tight and angry.
And John knew that he would react the same way, if he were Dean. He also knew then that he was pushing too hard.
So he sighed, and pulled out a card from his wallet. He handed it to you.
“I’m sure you’ve got Cas’s number already, but here’s mine,” said John. “Call me if you change your mind.”
“I’m sorry for invading,” you told Sam that night. He was helping you and Dean bring in your suitcases. You were pretty much moving into their apartment, indefinitely.
“You’re not,” Sam said, shaking his head. “We’re happy to have you here.”
You gave him a tired, thankful smile. “I appreciate that, thanks.”
“We’ll get to have an in-house chef,” Dean chimed in, earning more amused look from you.
“Need I remind you that I’m not an actual chef?” you said. You set down your smaller suitcase, full of shoes and toiletries, to grasp the front of his shirt. You leaned up on your toes and met him with a kiss. It was sweet, but it was also tender. His arms came around your lower back and pulled you flush against him.
He parted from you gently, afterwards pressing his forehead against yours. He let out a brief sigh through his nose.
“I’m sorry, about how I left last night,” he said.
You shook your head, despite the tears that wanted to burn in your eyes. You wanted to tell him, It’s fine. I’m fine.
But you couldn’t lie to him.
“You came back when I needed you,” you said instead. “Thanks for letting me stay here.”
You felt his fingers tangle in your hair, his hand resting along the back of your neck. It was familiar, and soothing.
“This isn’t exactly how I wanted you to move in,” he admitted. You chuckled wryly.
“Really,” he said. “…I was thinking of asking you. But not ‘til, you know, down the line.”
You softened at that. You raised up on your toes and pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth. Then you circled your arms around his neck and hugged him close. He held you back just as tightly.
“Thank you for always being there for me,” you said. He couldn’t see your smile, but somehow, he knew it was there. But he could also hear you sniffle, and feel your body tremble with tears.
“You’re safe here,” Dean said softer into your ear. “Nothing’s getting to you, all right?”
You nodded, pressing your face into his neck. He continued to say and do whatever he felt he had to in order to reassure you that night, and make you feel safe.
All the while, he was trying to reassure himself.
AN: *burrr* That tension, huh? What did you think of her finally finding out about Jo's lingering feelings, plus a bit of Dean's resentment, him and Gordon coming to an understanding, and the reader meeting John for the first time! 😮💨😮💨
Good news though. Next time, we'll take a huge break from all this drama and have a nice fluffy Christmas special. (Plus a healthy dose of spice. ❤️🔥)
Next Time:
You hadn’t undressed yet from your jeans and sweater, but you crawled across the bed to come up behind him and drop a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“How’s your slugging arm?” you asked.
Dean quirked a smile at you over his shoulder. “Just fine.”
“Dean,” you said. Your tone was gentle, but warning. No downplaying.
You pressed your lips against the side of his head and soothed your hand along his shoulder and down his arm. Still, he was resistant.
“I’m fine, sweetheart,” he said.
You hummed. “Okay. I guess you don’t need a massage then.”
He paused. His head tilted just so, once again turning to you over his shoulder. You spied the edge of his piqued interest, his grin.
“Well, if you’re offering…”

my boss: if a student is having issues with their professors not being lenient while they have covid, don't tell them what to do. let them figure out how to contact their deans by themselves
me: 👀 tells the students exactly what to do and gives them their deans' contact info and to let me know if they need any help from me to get their professors to be decent human beings
#my boss' reasoning was 'theyre adults now they should be able to figure it out kids are so entitled now and need their hands held'#shes a good boss but yeesh have some compassion lady#when i was in college i had not a fucking clue what a dean even did let alone how to contact them#i literally only learned what a dean does when i got this job#if a student is struggling bc their professor is being a dick and having a power trip over them i want to help them as much as i can#like theyre sick with covid they shouldn't be forced to put up with a teachers bullshit and worry about that when they have a#potentially life threatening illness#anywho#idc what boss says if a student needs help im going to help them bc they shouldnt have to just be thrown to the sharks#we exist to help each other im not letting them drown#okay rant over im glad i was able to help someone out today with that ^^#alch rants#cw covid

- 13x14: The angry, dark look Cas gives Donatello when he tries to kill Dean
- 13x16: “Dean has him by the thigh!” Cas, jealously: “He ~what~?”
- 13x16: “and that includes the Cartwright twins.” Cas, again jealously: “what did you do with the Cartwright twins?”
- 13x19: Cas angrily confronting Naomi about forcing him to kill a bunch of Dean clones.
- 13x21: Cas secretly sliding Dean more pizza when Mary and Sam left the room.

- 14x14: Cas’s voice breaking when he talks about the possibility of Dean dying one day.
- 14x18: The pure self loathing in Cas’s eyes when he feels like he failed Dean by not telling him about Jack’s soul.
- 15x2: “You asked ‘what about all of this is real?’ We are.” THE MOST ROMANTIC LINE EVER. (Plus later Eileen and Sam have the same conversation but they get to kiss because homophobia)
- 15x9- 20:00 Dean said that they lost everyone they cared about, then added Cas specifically. Then he says “I had to bury him” not “we”
- 15x9- 23:00 Dean cries when he can’t find Cas. Then he prays to him and apologizes for letting him go. He falls to his knees praying to him and fully crying
- 15x12: “I created the world.” *shows Destiel*
- 15x15: This time when Dean sees Cas leaving the bunker, he stops him. (In reference to Cas saying “you didn’t stop me” when Dean got mad at him for leaving)
- 15x16: This is the the only version of Cas that rebelled for Dean. This universe is literally being saved repeatedly because of Cas’s love for Dean
- 15x18: CAS CONFESSES HIS LOVE TO DEAN then goes to mega hell for being gay
Anyway, Cas loves Dean and Dean LOVES HIM BACK, OKAY?!?!? Feel free to add more

________
Thursday Night
“So how do you want me?” asked Jensen, leaning against his closet door in nothing but his boxer briefs.
“Oh well that’s a dangerous question,” you laughed. “Jeans are fine for where I’m taking you.”
“Alright,” he said. He ducked into the closet and returned wearing only a pair of dark jeans, smirking at you with his hands behind his back.
“Being a little shit?” you asked.
“One of my best qualities,” he said. You hummed and went past him into the closet. “So what should I be wearing on this date out?”
“I’m kinda a sucker for you a henley and flannel. Not to let that go to your head at all,” you said.
“Oh you should never watch Supernatural then,” he chuckled, grabbing a long sleeve white henley off the hanger and pulling it on.
“I did sort of start watching it,” you said. “You look like a little baby that hadn’t hit puberty yet.”
“I got better with age, sweetheart,” he said, flashing you a wink.
“Oh yes you did,” you said. “I like it. It’s kinda scary but not too bad if you watch during the day.”
“It gets less scary pretty fast,” he said, putting on his red and gray flannel. “I all set?”
“You look very pretty,” you said, walking out with him on your tail. “So does the show end happy? Like they live? It’s got this angsty feel to it where I feel like something bad is gonna happen.”
“Do you want me to spoil it?”
“Dean doesn’t like die, right,” you said. He made a face and you frowned. “No. Why? He doesn’t deserve that.”
“Eh, calm yourself woman. Things could happen in the future...he might not have to die...or he might come back and I really shouldn’t be discussing these things.”
“You’d do more?” you asked.
“Oh for sure. On a streaming network where we get to do all the shit we couldn’t on cable. Get some fresh eyes in on the writing or maybe we’d even take a crack at it. It’s not really an if, more of a when so don’t go worrying about Dean. I like my new friends at work and everybody’s great but I miss Jared and my old ones. I’m definitely working with them again.”
“That’s great! Now come on, move that tush. We have reservations.”
“Reservations. Fancy,” he said. He put on a pair of socks and shoved his wallet in his pocket, following you out to the hall when you spun around.
“Oh yeah,” you smirked. “You may also have a little birthday surprise waiting for your downstairs so eyes shut mister.”
“You’re devious. I like that. I like that a lot. We should explore that later in bed.”
“Tempting. I’ll have to take you up on that,” you said. “Eyes shut.”
You held his hand and he shut his eyes, going down the hall with you. You went slowly down the steps, Jensen’s arm around you the whole time. You grinned and walked him over to the family room before leaving him in place.
“Open,” you said. He blinked open his eyes, quickly landing them on a grinning Jared standing there.
“How the hell are you here?” said Jensen, Jared giving him a big hug he quickly returned. “Shit I missed you man.”
“Me too. But it’s someone’s birthday this week and I don’t have work tomorrow so I caught a flight up this afternoon. Y/N thought I’d make a good present.”
“Fucking awesome present,” he said, still grinning ear to ear.
“You doing okay?” asked Jared, Jensen nodding. He gave him another hug and you smiled. “So how’s that crush on the nanny working out?”
“Shut up,” said Jensen, smirking as he pulled you into his side. “Jared. I know you guys met already but Y/N is your soon to be best friend just as an fyi.”
“Oh we’ve already started chatting,” you said, Jared chuckling. “He’s really sweet. I had to legit stop him from jumping on a plane that second when I texted him he thought something was wrong.”
“I think between the two of us we can keep an eye on him,” said Jared. “So you mind if I crash your date?”
“Not at all,” you said. “I’m taking both you boys out. My treat.”
“I’ll be back in a minute,” said Jensen two hours later while he excused himself to the bathroom. Jared finished off the last of his beer and smiled as he leaned back in his corner of the booth.
“You know I’m totally covering this right,” he said.
“Dutch?” you asked.
“I’ll take the alcohol, you take the food.”
“That I can agree to,” you said, glancing over the dessert menu. “I’m really happy you were able to come up to hang out. I know you got your own family and everything and this was last minute.”
“He’s my family too,” he said. “I’d do anything for him. Literally. Don’t ever hesitate to call me, no matter when or where. I’ll be there for him like he’s always been for me.”
“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a smile on his face like that before.”
“I have. You just didn’t notice that night at the bonfire.” You shrugged and he cocked his head. “How long you two been dating?”
“A month or so,” you said.
“You like him?”
“He’s alright,” you said, smiling before you took a sip from your glass.
“Thanks for taking care of him lately.”
“Don’t need to thank me for that,” you said, sliding the dessert menu over to him.
“Yeah but I’m still going to,” he said. “I meant what I said earlier. Between the two of us he’ll be okay again.”
“He’s never gonna be the same. He’ll be happy and it won’t hurt as much. But it’ll come back and hit him time to time.”
“There’s a reason he’s my best friend and it’s not just because we worked together for so long. He’s always been there for me and I’ll be there for him. I feel better about him being up here when he’s got someone else watching his back.”
“You had the hard job, not me,” you said.
“He’s come a long way. Doesn’t mean this is a cakewalk though I’m sure.”
“No, you’re right about that,” you said as you spotted Jensen returning.
“You guys order dessert yet?” he asked, sliding in beside you.
“Why doesn’t the birthday boy pick,” teased Jared, handing the menu over to him. “You guys ought to come home for a weekend when you get a chance.”
“It’s kinda a long way to go with the kids for just a few days,” said Jensen. “But we’ll be home soon. Hopefully.”
“I can get you a gig on Walker anytime you want it dude, just ask.”
“Maybe. I kinda want to get with the guys and maybe work on that Supernatural stuff. I need good stuff to look forward to, you know?”
“I do,” said Jared. “As long as you come home eventually I’ll learn to live with just using your jet skis in the meantime.”
“See what I’ve been dealing with for over a decade?” asked Jensen.
“Oh yes. He’s horrible,” you teased. “We really shouldn’t have him sleepover then, should we?”
“You’re staying at the house?” asked Jensen with a grin.
“Duh. I didn’t just fly a thousand miles to not see you dude. I’m here all weekend. Let’s have some fun.”
“Boys I’m heading to bed,” you said around two in the morning.
“Yeah we ought to go to bed ourselves,” said Jared.
“I’ll grab you some sheets and stuff,” said Jensen. You waved goodnight to Jared, heading down the hall towards your room when Jensen wrapped an arm around your waist. “I thought you were gonna sleep with me from now on.”
“I am. Want to check something real quick.”
“Hurry back,” he said. He kissed your temple and ducked into his room, leaving you in the hall. You went down to your own and checked your email, smirking when you saw what you were looking for. A rattling of fingers on the door made you glance up, Jensen smiling there. “Texting your other boyfriend?”
“No, I sort of...submitted one of my stories to a publisher. They’ve been talking to me this week and said they’d get back to me today on if they wanted to move forward. They want to do a five book deal. I already have the stories done and mostly drawn anyways. They gave me an offer just now.”
“That’s awesome,” he said. “Seriously. We’re gonna celebrate tomorrow for sure.”
“It’s no big deal,” you said.
“It really is,” he said. He picked you up and grinned, carrying you back to his room. “I’m proud of you.”
“They’re stupid stories,” you said.
“I love those stupid stories,” he said, setting you on the bed. “The kids do too.”
“You’re just saying that cause you’re supposed to say that.” You set your phone on the nightstand and crawled under the covers, Jensen pulling you into his chest when het got underneath.
“My children think their mom is really okay now. They don’t get sad anymore and they ask questions about her again and I don’t want to cry every time I talk about her because your story reminded me that the wolf dad can be happy again for him too. That’s really fucking important to me right now in life.”
“Okay Papa Wolf,” you said. You grinned and he returned it. “Night Jensen.”
“Goodnight sweetheart.”
Two Months Later
“Hey Jared,” you said as you answered your phone. “What’s up?”
“Jensen at work?”
“Yeah. Late night again,” you said. “He’s answering texts between breaks I think.”
“Cool,” he said.
“You need something?” you asked.
“No, no. I’m good,” he said. “Thanks. I’ll catch you later.”
“You doing okay?” you asked.
“Yeah. Just want to talk to him for a minute,” he said. He was a little quiet and you sat down on the couch.
“You want to talk to me?” you asked.
“That’s okay.”
“Jared...Jensen and I are starting to get serious which means we’re gonna be together a lot considering how you two can’t go more than a day without talking. We can be good friends too,” you said. He was quiet and you hoped you hadn’t sounded too corny.
“I uh, I have bad days sometimes. Really normal days can be bad days in my head. It’s kinda how I was built I guess,” he said.
“Nothing wrong with that,” you said. “Today a bad day?”
“Kinda. Nothing happened. I had a normal day at work and home. I’m just off. He um...Jensen makes me feel better as lame as that sounds. Just talking for a few minutes helps my head get on track that somebody really does care.”
“He’s very good like that,” you said. “I know you mean the world to him. You’re his brother. It’s not lame that he makes you feel better. You make him feel better too. I owe you a lot for taking care of him after the accident.”
“I much prefer when I’m the one freaking out and he takes care of me,” chuckled Jared. “You guys coming home soon?”
“He’s got a few weeks left of filming but I might head down a little earlier, try to get the house sorted out down there with the kids and stuff,” you said. “He’s literally counting down the days.”
“He really likes working on the show though I thought.”
“Oh he does but he’s got a big circle on the calendar for the fifthteenth called Jared day. I think your boy is planning something fun.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “You mind if I ask a personal question?”
“Shoot, buddy,” you said, stretching in your seat.
“Do you love him?” he asked.
“Going full throttle out of the gate I see,” you said.
“I know. I know how he talks about you though. There’s no...casual relationship with him.”
“Well I haven’t said it to him yet and he hasn’t said it to me so...maybe another time I’ll be able to answer that question.”
“It’s been almost four months. You get to spend more time together than most couples starting out. I’d think you know by now,” he said.
“I do. But he deserves to hear it before anyone else,” you said.
“So you love him.”
“Most things I love have a habit of going away,” you said.
“He won’t,” he said. “You do more than make him happy, Y/N. A lot more.”
“I just wish he didn’t hurt.”
“He hurts a lot less lately. Some of that’s time and some of it’s you. Enjoy being one of his best friends. He doesn’t let that many people in that close.”
“I know. We were supposed to be talking about you I thought.”
“Eh, sometimes I just need the talk. Thanks. I got somebody else I can call now too.”
“It’s never a problem,” you said.
“It’s getting late there. I’ll let you go. Thanks for talking, really. I feel better.”
“Anytime Jared.”
“You too, Y/N.”
Three Weeks Later
“Doug you’re a lifesaver,” you said as finished washing Jensen’s truck in the driveway back home in Austin. He smiled as he wiped off his hands and gave Arrow a wave goodbye.
“I owed you for that 3am incident,” he said. “You got easy kids. Mine are vultures.”
“Yes, yes they are,” you laughed. He gave you a kiss on the check and smiled as he headed back for his car, another one coming down the open driveway. “Later Doug.”
“Later,” he said. Jensen exited the back of the car along with his backpack and a suitcase, the car pulling out, Doug following after.
“Hey. How was the flight?” you asked.
“Who was that?” he asked, dropping his bags on the pavement.
“Oh that’s just Doug. He’s a nanny. I needed an extra set of hands today watching the kids trying to finish up these chores before you got home and it was perfect timing,” you said. You smirked and walked over to kiss him, Jensen taking a step back. “Something wrong?”
“You kissed him.”
“No. I didn’t. He kissed my cheek,” you said. Jensen narrowed his eyes and you scoffed, wiping the sweat off your forehead. “Seriously? He’s my friend.”
“That kisses you.”
“He’s affectionate,” you said. “Also he’s kinda married so you can tone it down with the judgemental looks.”
“Oh. I’m sorry. You’re right. You should be able to kiss whoever you want despite being in a relationship,” he said. He grabbed his bags and brushed past you inside. You grumbled and went after him, finding him upstairs in his room. “What?”
“What stick is up your ass today? I haven’t seen you in almost three weeks. None of us have and you’re in a bad mood.”
“I was perfectly happy until I saw you kissing somebody else.”
“I wasn’t kissing him!”
“It didn’t look like that from my perspective.”
“Jensen.”
“Is this just a little game to you? You get bored of the older guy with kids finally?” he asked, crossing his arms. “Or maybe you just got caught finally.”
“I don’t cheat,” you said, getting in his face. “He kissed my cheek. I’ll call him to come back and explain this situation right now but I apparently you just think I’m a cheater.”
“Well maybe you are. Geez, we’ve been together over four months and no real sex yet? Cause that’s not sending red flags.”
“Because you weren’t fucking ready!” you shouted. “I’m not your wife and I’m never gonna be her. Don’t be mad at me for it.”
“No that’s for sure,” he said.
“The kids are in the front yard. Don’t expect me back today,” you said. You stormed downstairs and into your room, shoving some things in a bag before taking your purse and getting behind the wheel of your car.
You were seeing red by the time you were out of the suburbs. You slammed your hand against the wheel and shouted.
“You fucking asshole,” you said. You sniffled and drove for a bit before finally pulling off. You drove down a long road, rolling your eyes when of course you passed by his brewery. You’d never been but he’d told you about it more than once. You kept going down the road, eventually finding a park to pull into. You shut off the car and shut your eyes, a knock on the window making you jump. You put down your window when you saw a cop there and did your best to wipe off your face.
“You’re double parked,” he said.
“What?”
“You’re parked on the line,” he said.
“Sorry,” you said.
“Bad day?” he asked.
“Something like that,” you said. You could feel snot threatening to drip down your nose, the officer reaching into a pocket and handing you a tissue. “Thanks.”
“Best not to drive when you’re upset,” he said.
“Yeah. I’m just gonna sit here for a little while,” you said with a nod.
“Probably not a great idea to sit in a car next a playground,” he said. “The mom’s are kinda intense around here.”
“Of course they are,” you said, squeezing your eyes shut.
“Why don’t you move your car and you can join me on my patrol,” he said. “It’s only a short walk. Fresh air might do you good.”
“Last time I talked to another man my boyfriend sorta freaked out on me so maybe not a good idea,” you said. You blew your nose and realized what you’d said, the officer staring down. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Why don’t we take that walk so I can find out what you did mean.”
Two minutes later you were walking next to the cop. He had a baseball cap on and was in all black. You weren’t sure how he wasn’t boiling considering it was May in Austin.
“This boyfriend got a name?”
“You gonna run his name or something?” you asked.
“Do I need to?” he asked. You shook your head and he smiled. “He the jealous type? He get angry over you talking to other men?”
“It’s complicated.”
“If it doesn’t get uncomplicated I might have to pay this boyfriend a visit you understand.”
“His wife died last June.”
“Okay. I understand part of the complicated thing now.”
“Why’s he gotta be a dick? Called me a cheater,” you said. You crossed your arms and the cop chuckled. “Sorry.”
“As long as you don’t call me a dick we don’t got a problem. Did you cheat on him?”
“No. He...he works away and he just got home today and my guy friend was over helping me with watching my boyfriends kids while I did some chores and my guy friend is like, a really affectionate guy and he kissed my cheek as my boyfriend was coming in and my boyfriend thinks I was kissing him back and been cheating on him for the past three weeks.”
“Why don’t you just call the guy friend over to explain?”
“He got so pissed so fast and accused me of cheating. I’ve been dating him for nearly five months and he brings up the fact we haven’t had sex yet like that even matters when I’ve been holding back for him and he just blows up on me for fucking nothing,” you said.
“You’re both stubborn people, aren’t ya,” he said.
“Maybe,” you grumbled.
“Maybe this guy is scared and looking for a way out of the relationship. Or maybe he thinks you want out. You mentioned kids. That’s not easy.”
“He’s also...older. There’s an age gap. I was the nanny and now I’m the girlfriend nanny. He’s also kinda...famous,” you said.
“So there’s a lot of stress in this relationship then.”
“No,” you said, dropping your arms to your sides. “It’s not like that.”
“Maybe the dumb bastard just got scared of losing someone again,” he said. “Just a theory.”
“I wish he wasn’t scared,” you said. “I don’t know how to make him not afraid.”
“You ever think maybe he said that because you’re getting in there pretty good now and he’s getting real scared that losing you might hurt just as bad as this wife did.”
“He’s an idiot. But he’s my idiot,” you said.
“Talk to him. Get an apology and try to forgive him.”
“I already forgive him. I know him. He was scared and I got mad instead of realizing after so many weeks apart all he needed was a freaking hug.”
“Then go home and give him a hug,” he said.
“Thanks,” you said with a nod. “I must have looked like a hot mess or something.”
“Oh for sure,” he chuckled. You smiled and he laughed. “That looks better.”
“Jensen probably left like five messages on my phone by now,” you said. The cop you were with paused and smiled. “What?”
“A kinda famous Jensen. There’s really only one of those in town,” he said.
“Oh. Yeah. Please don’t share that he’s dating. He really wants to keep things private for a lot of reasons right now,” you said.
“He’s my buddy.”
“Your buddy?”
“We went to school together,” he said. “In tenth grade he went for a slide on second base, ripped his pants right down the middle. His hanes bright blue covered ass still managed to get around to home base.”
“He split his pants in a baseball game?” you smiled.
“I know quite a few of his dirty secrets,” he said. “I don’t really know that whole acting thing but him I know and that must make you Y/N. You ever in trouble kid, ever just got a bad feeling and want a cop to come by, give me a call.”
“Thanks,” you said as you took his card. “You really think he’s a dumb bastard?”
“Oh knowing it’s him, 100%. Give him a break. We like him when he smiles,” he said.
“I’m gonna give him a call,” you said. “We should hang out sometime now that Jensen has a break.”
“Definitely. I gotta finish my patrol,” he said. “Take care Y/N.”
“Bye,” you said as you headed back towards your car. You pulled out your phone and saw seven missed calls and twelve unread texts. You tapped the screen and put the phone up to your ear, only ringing for a second.
“I’m sorry,” said Jensen.
“Me too.”
“I’m the one that...shit I’m so sorry, Y/N. I don’t know what happened.”
“You missed me and you were scared and seeing Doug probably hurt like a bitch,” you said.
“I’m so sorry. I don’t want to be the stupid jealous boyfriend.”
“I’m not too far from your brewery if you want to meet there. Get a beer. Blow this over,” you said.
“I’m sorry.”
“I forgive you. Stop apologizing. I want to give you a hug,” you said.
“I’ll meet you there in thirty minutes?” he asked.
“I’ll see you soon honey.”
“Hi,” said Jensen as you sat at a quiet table in the back, sipping on a beer and eating a piece of pizza. You smiled and stood up, giving him a hug. He tucked his head down and sighed. “I’m sorry.”
“Hey we survived our first big fight as a couple,” you said. “That deserves beer and pizza.”
He sat down next to you, forcing a smile on his face. You reached over and cupped his cheek, Jensen turning into it.
“Please forgive yourself,” you said.
“I don’t really want to,” he said.
“You called me a cheater. I get what I want today and that’s for you to forgive yourself.”
“I don’t know why I said that.”
“Jensen,” you said, stroking his cheek. “I love you.”
He stared at you, a different look in his eyes, the tiniest sliver of a smile peeking through. You inched closer and slid your hand around to the back of his neck, pulling him into a kiss. He felt softer than usual, lips barely moving against yours.
“I love you,” he said. He wrapped his arms around you and grinned. “I have loved you for a very long time.” You kissed him again, Jensen returning it.
He left his arm around your back, smirking when you did the same to him.
“Can we forget about earlier?” you asked. He nodded and rested his head on your shoulder.
“One last I’m sorry though,” he said.
“Just don’t call me that again and we’re all good, Jens,” you said. “Now eat some of this pizza so I don’t feel like a glutton.”
“I don’t have to slip into a superhero costume any more so dad bod here I come,” he chuckled.
“Does that mean Solider Boy meets some untimely end?”
“No spoilers,” he said. “But I don’t think I’ll be going back to that show. At least as often. I know I want to direct an episode of walker in the fall. I talked to Jared about it actually so that’ll be fun. I might do a duck and run guest appearance on it. I’ll line up something for next year but I want to be home for awhile, do work around here.”
“I know quite a few people who would be more than okay with that,” you said.
“Don’t make any plans for Saturday,” he smirked.
“I thought you were having your Jared day tomorrow.”
“Oh we are. Gen invited you and the kids over. She’d like to get to know you. You’ll love her,” he said.
“So what’s Saturday then?” you asked.
“I’d like to take you and the kids out on the boat. We haven’t been since before the accident. Maybe we can go out for dinner and put up the tent in the backyard, have a sleepover out there with the kids.”
“That sounds fun.”
“And...I’d like to maybe next week take you out for the day, just us, maybe...spend the night somewhere,” he said.
“Like a hotel?” you asked.
“Yeah. Or the kids can have a sleepover at Jared’s. Maybe.” He glanced down and you moved your arm from his back, reaching behind yourself to hold his hand. Green eyes flickered over to yours and you smiled. “I’m-”
“You know if you keep apologizing about earlier I’m not going to have sex with you,” you said. “That’s just facts.”
“Okay,” he chuckled. “No more apologies. Aside from...I really am sorry about what I said. I’m the one that’s been holding back and not once have you asked for more.”
“We said we’d take it slow and that’s okay,” you said. He squeezed your hand and nodded. “I don’t like you because you’re attractive or your hair is great or your arms are massive. Having fun with you is fun but that’s not why I’m here.”
“I don’t know if I can give you things you want,” he said.
“Just give me you and that’s good with me,” you said.
“Okay,” he said quietly. You scooted closer to him, Jensen tucking a stray hair behind your ear. “Let’s do it now.”
“Uh, what?” you said, taking a sip from your beer.
“The kids aren’t home and I don’t want to wait and-”
“You don’t have to ask me twice,” you said, knocking back your beer and flipping the cardboard down over your pizza. He stared and you burped, picking up the box. “There’s like six slices left and this is too good to waste, even for sex.”
“You have literally never been more attractive than in this moment,” he said.
“I could be.”
“I’ll see you at the house in twenty?”
“Yes you will Ackles.”
Forty minutes later you hand was slapping against his headboard, legs squeezed so tight around his waist you were shocked he wasn’t complaining. You moaned loudly as he teased your clit and he delivered one more hard thrust. He grunted as you gripped his shoulder with your other hand.
“Jensen,” you breathed out. “I’m right there. Please, please, please…”
You arched your back when he thrust hard, fingers rubbing just a bit rougher and you came all around him, every muscle tensed and riding out that high, long, deep, absolutely perfect orgasm. Jensen thrust a few more times before he groaned and rested his head on your shoulder, big panting breaths fanning over your skin.
He was sweaty but pulled out slowly, plopping down on the bed beside you, hand resting on his chest.
“I don’t know about you but that was good,” he said. “Damn good.”
You giggled between breaths, nodding your head slightly. You tilted it over towards his, Jensen already staring at you with soft hooded green eyes.
“Definitely damn good,” you breathed. His lips tugged up into a smile, warm and gentle, his head inching closer to you. You sat up and leaned down to kiss him, Jensen breaking off when he needed air. You trailed a finger down his chest before climbing out of bed and excusing yourself to the bathroom. After you cleaned up you found Jensen chucking the condom in the trash and wiping himself off quickly.
“Come here you,” he said. He picked you up bridal style and carried you back to the bed, laying you down carefully. “I’m big on after sex cuddling just so you know.”
“I find that to be a very attractive quality,” you said as he lay down. He reached down to the end of the bed and grabbed the bunched up blanket, pulling it over the two of you. His arm slid under your head and he pulled you into his side, encouraging you to use him as a pillow. “You’re warm.”
“So are you,” he said. He kissed your temple and let out a deep breath. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“I never thought I’d be able to do that ever again. Let alone not feel bad about doing it,” he said.
“You okay?”
“I’m great,” he said. “Really. I know Dee would have been telling me to not worry so I didn’t. I don’t...I feel like I can talk about her again, you know?”
“You used to call her your wife a lot. Recently you’ve been saying her name more. I think you really are healing, Jensen.”
“I knew the second you left earlier I messed up. I dropped the kids off at Jared’s and then I wound up at the cemetery. I saw these purple flowers there. It’s kinda a different flower but they were her favorite. I’ve only ever told one other person those were her favorites,” he said. You traced your finger over his pec and rested your palm flat on his chest. “Why’d you put flowers there?”
“Why wouldn’t I Jensen?”
“That’s how I knew I can stop being so scared when it comes to you. Purple fucking flowers. You’re just…”
“I love you too,” you said, giving his whole body a squeeze. He returned it, holding you for a long time, neither one of you saying a word. It wasn’t until you noticed the light starting to change in the room that you both moved.
“Y/N,” said Jensen when you sat upright. You looked over your shoulder, a smile on his face. “Do you want to stay upstairs with me from now on instead of your room? It’s okay if-”
“I’d love to,” you said. “To be honest, I slept up here the other night.”
“You did?” he asked as you nodded.
“I missed you.”
“Me too,” he said.
“I know three little faces that really missed you too,” you said. He smiled and nodded. “Let’s go get the rascals.”

outsider pov deancas, 2.4k, based after the good finale. for @bloodsigilsandpie <3
"it's happening."
natasha returns to the kitchen, her otherwise suppressed glee betrayed by the glint in her eyes as she declares to the entire room. "they're on a date."
chloe's the first to react, or rather, the spoons in her hand that promptly drop back into the foam are. "no way."
"way." farah rushes close to natasha, gushing. "did they tell you?"
natasha sniffs, depositing the plates in the sink with her back turned to her eager audience.
"do you think they told me?"
she doesn't wait for an answer, turning around and leaning back against the counter.
"of course they didn't tell me. but i," she smirks. "i could tell."
"oh, you could tell." hutch repeats mockingly, and a few others snicker. "nat, we're talking about the trenchcoat dude who never smiles, and big-car-black-coffee-loyal-to-the-pie guy. no one has ever been able to tell anything with those two. and they don't look anything more than unlikely work friends to me either."
"unlikely work friends don't look at each other like that!" farah chastises immediately.
"fine. unlikely work friends with repressed homosexual urges from the 80's."
"hutch, if you're going to insult my date-dar, do it to my face!" natasha scowls, earning herself another eyeroll and a defensive palms-up gesture from the skeptic sous-chef.
"he literally just did." chloe mutters, ever the devil's advocate, before farah interrupts. she'd always been their resident 'trenchcoat dude who never smiles and big-car-black-coffee-loyal-to-the-pie guy' shipper. there tend to be one of those for all such couples the waitstaff discusses on the regular, really.
"so, how can you tell? what's different?"
"well for one," natasha grins. "trenchcoat dude's not wearing his trenchcoat."
a commotion of gasps come up from arguably most stations of the kitchen — even those who weren't a part of the discussion before.
"is it on the back of his chair? did car-guy help him take it off?" farah instantly pipes up, her eyes wide and hopeful. (hutch and her are the newest waiters, natasha remembers with a midge of distaste. sometimes it's too obvious.)
"no. it's nowhere in sight." she admits, eyebrows raised.
"maybe it ripped." that's hutch.
"maybe he finally realized that thing was doing nothing for him." dallas. everybody knows he's got a thing for trench coat dude though, so nobody bats an eye.
"maybe car-guy told him." chloe shrugs.
"hey, maybe somebody else did." hutch again.
"that's not the point." natasha butts in. "car-guy's better dressed too. i don't know much about old people fashion — chloe, if you don't stop looking at me like that — but i think ascots are supposed to be fancy."
"he wore a what —" several voices echo, and just then, freya enters the kitchen, beaming. (second year at the diner, loads of tattoos, and has a lovely girlfriend at the domino's across the street. natasha likes her.)
"you guys'll never guess what happened."
hutch and dallas sigh in unison, and farah giggles a little. "you won't guess what happened here either!"
"me first. trenchcoat dude and car-guy are on a date."
chloe snorts, picking up two prepared plates of food from one of the side chef's stations, and setting off out the door freya just entered from. important to find a job-gossip balance and all that.
natasha turns to the new informant. "what did you see?"
"car-guy asked trenchcoat what he wanted for dessert." freya beams.
"this just in, men can learn manners." hutch inputs before exiting with his own tray.
"car-guy might always order the pie but it looks mutual!" farah points out indignantly but he's gone already.
nevermind, he'll be back in five.
"and what did trenchcoat say?" natasha asks, ignoring the other two.
"milkshake," freya replies, writing it on a post-it as she says it.
"one shake, two straws." farah gasps. "come on, frey. tell me it was one shake, two straws."
"two shakes, two straws." she scribbles away.
"maybe they're gonna share both." farah quickly supplies.
"nobody does that, farah." dallas retorts, and natasha makes a face at him, not willing to kill the former's hopes just yet. farah tends to get this forlorn look on her face when things go wrong — and it always reminds natasha of her dead cousin.
she clears her throat.
"look, it can be a date without the shared milkshake, people." a few thoughtful sounds come up, the gates swing, and chloe walks back in. "plus, we've still got all the staring, the lingering looks over the menu, the soulful eyefu —"
"but that's everyday, nat." freya sighs.
"it's different today —"
"— you know it isn't —"
"— and i can prove it." natasha finishes, earning herself looks of surprise from almost everyone around. she can, though. the diner's got a valentines discount on milkshakes all month, she can approach them about it. trenchcoat and car-guy don't have to know it's not just for couples. and on the (really, really) offchance that they aren't one, natasha could always just minus the discount from the total anyway and no one would be the wiser.
the idea had just come to her but she was fairly sure she could swing it.
farah had already picked up a tray with two soup bowls and a dish of croutons, but she puts it down, and replaces the to-be-forlornness with excitement. "how?"
"i'll," natasha smirks again. "talk to them."
another round of gasps. in this kitchen, the people were nothing if not dramatic.
this time, freya's the one who asks, "how?"
"well, i haven't waitressed for twelve years just to go about rattling off trade secrets, kids." natasha winks, and a few of them make indignant noises because only about one third of the staff was what could broadly be called new. most of them had been there for years, and were practically a part of her family now. but she picks up her own tray smoothly, conveniently having been slid to her counter just then, and sets off — to an audience of hopeful believers (and dallas)'s matching stares.
(natasha isn't exactly free of the flair for drama she'd just accused everyone in this kitchen of.)
once outside, she makes a beeline for the table her tray is actually for, leaves them it, and quickly heads for the infamous trenchcoat and car-guy table.
this is so going to work.
"so then i cut his —" car-guy stops mid-sentence, spotting her. a part of natasha seethes to know what he 'cut off', but being fodder for the kitchenstaff's are-they-dating games didn't take away their rights to privacy, and she respected those. the car-guy smiles shortly at her. "what's the matter," his eyes flick down to her nametag, flick right back. (definitely a good sign; most men linger.) "natasha?"
she puts on her best smile. "it's about the milkshakes."
"is there a problem?" car-guy eases into a wider smile. "do you not have them, not a single one, and do we have to order pie instead?"
car-guy's partner shakes his head exasperatedly. "dean, i hardly think that's what she'd be here about."
"well, a guy's gotta dream." car-guy — dean — instantly says, and goes back to his burger while trenchcoat speaks up instead.
"what's the matter?"
natasha doesn't let her smile budge. it's a hell of a customer service smile, she's been told. "i actually came here to ask if you would like me to add the date dessert discount on the milkshake. it's an all-february thing. not on all items." she clarifies, a reflexive response for why it hasn't come up before.
genius.
dean looks a little cornered — trenchcoat just looks confused.
"i don't understand." he says, after a moment's pause. "the milkshakes cost less just if dean and i are here on a date...?"
"it's not —" she balks a little at his seriousness. "it's actually not that big of a difference."
"that's...alright." trenchcoat tilts his head, and natasha suddenly realizes she's physically fighting the urge to stare. shit, dallas isn't half-wrong. "but why just milkshakes?"
dean lets out an uncomfortable laugh. "capitalism trying to crap all over the free man's heart and the supremacy of pie not enough reason for ya, cas?"
natasha stifles a smile.
that's actually a good line. maybe car-guy deserves more credit than just loyal-to-the-pie.
trenchcoat — okay, cas, at least while she's out here — still looks a little doubtful (and she has no idea why) but he nods at dean, and then looks up at her and nods again. "add the discount."
natasha has to resist the urge to let her jaw drop.
this entire conversation, she'd practically been sure they were heading towards a rejection of the 'date' clause. and her gut told her they weren't lying either.
well, well. always thrilling to be right.
"and thank you for telling us about it." cas continues, and her practised smile returns immediately. probably a little less obligatory.
"of course."
and dean still looks like he'd rather cut more whatever-he-was-talking-about's off rather than be here right now, so natasha goes to leave. but cas stops her right before she's out of reach.
"excuse me." he's the one smiling this time. "if you're not busy right away, could you tell us what other items are eligible for the february date discount?"
dean facepalms. "come on, dude."
cas gives him a look — and natasha was right, of course she was right, that's not a exasperated 'friend' look. "i'd like to know, dean."
to natasha's knowledge, they've never had trouble paying for anything before (hernandez, she thinks one of their surnames is, she's seen it on a card) but she can't object to 'cas' asking, of course. curiosity is also a well-off man's right.
"why?" dean asks vehemently, before she can start to rattle off the list.
"because," cas answers levelly. actually, he kind of sounds like he's using his dad voice. maybe he is a dad. "i think it's strange that we've never gotten the discount before, while we've been eating lunch here almost this entire month."
it's again hard for natasha to not just stare gapmouthed at them.
"those have been dates." she realizes belatedly and out loud, and receives a weird, distasteful look from dean, and an immediate nod from cas that makes her blurt out, "so this isn't your...first date."
they're dating.
oh, farah was going to lose her mind.
"is that a requisite clause?" cas asks politely, while dean just scrubs his face with a hand.
"no." she tells cas truthfully. "i'm sorry, i just assumed it was. your first, i mean."
"lady, we certainly don't look first date aged to me." dean butts in, not hostile, but like it's something that irks him. "and we've been married four years, so one would desperately hope it's not our first date, y'know."
married.
they're friggin' married.
natasha is an idiot, and her date-dar is probably due for an early retirement.
they've been married for four years.
"i'm...very sorry." she apologizes, mortified. "i had no idea. i —"
"it's fine." this time, dean's smiling, and cas's confused frown is back. it's like they take turns. natasha is almost grateful for it, to be fair, because both those smiles directed at her would've been a helluva lot more distracting. "really doesn't matter. and yeah, sure, add the milkshake discount but don't worry about the list of items." he turns to cas. "just have sam look it up for you when we get home. please."
cas seems to be prepared to acquiesce to that but natasha can't help her own curiosity this time. "is that your son?"
and she's halfway to regretting it the moment she registers having said it, even though thankfully neither of them look too offended. in fact, cas is back to smiling.
"he's dean's brother." cas tells her. "he's the one with jack right now." he pauses. "it's easier because he and eileen live with us."
"yeah, an in-house sitter who doesn't even like going out is really a department we won in." dean grins, solely at cas. as if he's momentarily forgotten all about natasha's presence (that had clearly been making him uncomfortable talking in front of, earlier) in just looking at his husband. natasha sends out a quick pre-prayer for farah. "sucks for eileen though."
"eileen is very happy with your brother, dean." cas chastises, his eyes nothing but affectionate even then, and natasha's head reels with how much she has to tell the waitstaff today.
they're going to friggin' adore her.
"so jack is your son," she confirms, less wary of their reaction to her question now that they looked to have settled into their own silent conversation.
"he's our son, yes." cas replies, simply.
"like, you and him." she flashes a smile at dean.
"us and sam." cas corrects, and dean facepalms again. for her part, natasha can do little more than blink.
"but —"
"it's complicated." dean cuts her off suddenly, and she flinches. he didn't even deny it, just...sidestepped it.
"i — i see." natasha clears her throat, still looking at cas in bewilderment.
cas probably doesn't notice because he's talking to dean again. "it's significantly less complicated than claire's parentage, dean. she has over six parental —"
jesus christ.
"aaand that's enough trivia for date night." dean interrupts loudly again, definitely for the best, because natasha was standing there like a thoughtless statue at this point. his raised voice shakes her out of her reverie, and she vaguely calculates the chances of crashing into a table if she tried to walk away right away.
"i'll," she mumbles instead, drawing in a breath forcefully. "i'll be back with your milkshakes."
"thank you!" cas calls after her as she half wobbles on her heels back to the kitchen.
inside, she puts her empty tray on the metal counter and her hands on both sides of it, bowing her head, and almost immediately ending up surrounded by a plethora of people — most of whom, in normal circumstances, would just have been eavesdropping from their respective stations.
farah's the first to ask, followed by hutch.
"so?"
"what did you find out?"
natasha closes her eyes. "they're married."
this time, the commotion is the largest yet. but she isn't done.
"and every single one of their meals here have been dates." freya pumps her fist, chloe squeezes farah's hand, and dallas tsks under his breath. the 'gallery' watchers appear ready to join in the cheering as well today. but the entire kitchen senses she isn't done yet, and waits fidgetingly for the rest of it.
"and," natasha swallows. "they're almost definitely in a cult."

kind of not happening for a long time but is it okay to request an emergency Dudes meeting when Hawwy learned about Otto and Annie? 😆
- 🌻
Sooooo....I can't do that because the way that Hawwy finds out about Otto and Annie, well it's dramatic. Story and Carter find out first, and that's very dramatic. To the point of anger from Carter, and tears from Story. So instead, I present to you the next time Otto sees Annie and he visits his brother, and stays the night...
🖤🖤🖤🖤
Just Silly
Summary: Brooks and Otto actually catch up. Annie questions things
Pairings: Brooks/Annie X Otto

“Coming!” Brooks shouts, glancing around the apartment, realizing Annie hadn’t returned yet. Changing his pace to a jog. Opening the door, his face drops, before faking a smile, “Otto, what’re you doing here?”
“Came to see my little, Brookie,” he pushes past his brother, going to sit on the couch, propping his legs up, and he playfully taps on the seat next to him. “I would ask if we could have a movie night, and I could have my little brother snuggled up against me. But…I think you’ve already got you a bed buddy to snuggle with.”
“One that you can’t stay away from,” Brooks sits in the chair opposite of his brother, just staring at him.
“Did that bother you? Literally we just talked at a coffee shop. Oddly enough, one that we have invested. We, as in you and me. Wanna pull the camera footage?”
“Already did.”
“This is awkward.”
“I trust her. It’s you I worry about. Mr. Golden Boy,” Otto rolls his eyes at the nickname his brothers had given him, and even more so the first comment. “You’ve always been able to get what you want.”
“I don’t want your girlfriend, Brookie. Honestly,” he puts his hands up in surrender, finally looking around the apartment. “Annie is a girl you marry. Otto doesn’t get married.”
“Right. You like a one and done.”
“How’s Dean?” Otto reaches over grabbing a blow pop from the candy bowl beside his table. “Was this Audi’s idea?”
“She always needs candy,” Brooks reminds him. His sisters don’t visit a ton, but when they do, his perfect princess Audriana is always digging around for candy, so now Annie makes sure she has plenty.
“Dean is fine. He’s a licensed mechanic officially now. And just wants to get into dad’s garage.”
“Don’t we all,” the two boys actually laugh, and Otto tosses him his own lollipop. “Wanna watch a game and bet? You got gushers?”
“You cheat. You still do that, I win because I’m Otto Baizen gig. I’ll order us some takeout. How long are you in New York?”
“A few more days. By the way, my luggage is outside your door. Thank god for private elevator access,” Brooks goes ahead and calls in some Chinese food. The two brothers actually getting along for once. Feeling like they were almost kids again. Laughing about the trouble they got into, and always using Brooks or Archie to get them out of it.
“Babe, there’s some luggage in the,” Annie stops seeing the laughing Otto and Brooks. Unsure how she should feel seeing the two of them together when it was less than a month ago that she was told to stay away from Otto. “I’ll go get the bag and put it in the guest room.”
“Annie, you just got home. Don’t worry about it,” Otto starts. “Brookie ordered us some Chinese.”
“She’s fine. Thanks, Annie,” Otto gives his brother an odd look while Annie goes to grab Otto’s things. Walking into the guest room to make sure it’s good and stocked. “What? That’s what she is supposed to do.”
“What the fuck?”
“I’m telling mom you said a bad language word,” Brooks laughs. “That’s what she does. I work. She can…”
“First off, Brookie, your entitlement is showing. Secondly, you saying that because that’s what mom did? You know dad told her every time she didn’t have to. And mom worked.”
“I know she worked. I worked in her office.”
Otto lets out a strained snort, “I did I worked in her office as my high school job.”
“You sat in a cozy chair and helped her and Lucy decide colors for the characters. Or a title of the book.”
“Yeah, well, going to work with dad wasn’t an option, since you and Archer already went. Dude, I don’t want to fight. I worked just as much as you guys. Uh, not as much as Zeph. None of us worked as much as him. Except…”
“Iclynn,” they both answer together.
“You boys know the only reason Icy worked with James is because of Arlo, right?” Annie asks starting to sit on Brooks’ lap.
“Why don’t you go and put on something more comfortable. Otto is staying the night. You know I don’t like day clothes on me,” Otto shoots Brooks another harsh look, but Annie is already heading to the bedroom for some shorts and a shirt.
“What the hell does she mean about my baby and Arlo? Annie!” she gives them a giggle, crawling into Brooks lap.
“Nothing. Forget I said anything about Icy and Ari Jr. I’d call him AJ if there wasn’t already one in the family.”
The three actually get along. And enjoying her time with Brooks, she snuggles right into him. Only getting up once the food gets there.
Enjoying a moment with them, until it’s time to clean up, “I’ll help,” Otto offers.
“It’s fine. You two spend some time together,” she cleans up the kitchen, taking out the trash, before going to give Brooks a kiss.
The man pulls her into his lap, deepening the kiss, “Brookie, I’m going to bed. Don’t stay up too late, okay?”
“Okay, babe. Love ya,” Annie repeats the sentiment, giving a little wave to Otto, before retiring to their room.
“So things good in paradise? Or you just trying to turn her into mom?”
“What?” Brooks looks over at him, brows furrowed and on the defense.
“Even dad helped mom clean up after dinner. Hell, we did sometimes, too. He always said, never take your mother or any woman willing to clean up after you for granted.”
Brooks rolls his eyes, settling back in the seat. “Not everyone’s life is a fairy tale.”
“Have you ever talked to them? It wasn’t. You know sometimes you gotta get out of your own head, and talk to the people around you. Not everything is about you.”
“Correction, not everything is about you, Golden Boy. I’m going to bed with my girlfriend. Might want some noise cancelling headphones on. If you didn’t pack any there’s some in the top drawer.”
“It’s tacky to brag about sex, Brookie.”
————————————
Annie pushes Brooks arm off of her, needing a drink of water. Grabbing up his discarded button up, she puts it on, walking out of the bedroom, yelping at Otto diddling around on his computer. The older man looks up at her, apologizing. “You’re fine, it was…I forgot you were here a moment.”
She awkwardly walks into the kitchen, asking if he wants anything while she fills up a glass, “I’ll take a beer.”
Popping a top off a Sam Adams, she walks to hand it over, “Beer after midnight?”
“Yeah,” he shortly answers, refusing to look at her. She looked too good coming out of that bedroom, and he will not allow himself to check out his brother’s girlfriend.
“Everything okay?”
“Doesn’t Brooks need you to clean something up or anything?” Annie bashfully looks away, turning to go back in the bedroom, before looking back at Otto.
“He’s under a lot of stress.”
“I’m sure college isn’t stressful?”
“I don’t mind,” Otto nods at her, finally looking up at her. “I don’t. It’s the least I can do. He pays for everything.”
“So, he’s your keeper? Not allowed to be around me without him, so I suggest you run along.”
“Otto.”
“Annie, he’s made it perfectly clear to the both of us, he doesn’t want us as friends. And seeing how you do whatever he tells you to, I see where this is going. It’s fine. It’s your life. Harry wanted more than you to fold over for some man.”
“My dad wants me to be happy, and I am. You’re not being fair.”
“Neither is Brooks. Goodnight, Annie,” she whispers out a goodnight, walking in to see Brooks move his hand over her side before looking back up at her.
“You get thirsty?” she gives him a nod, drinking on her water before crawling back into him. A quick moment of how her and Brooks once was.
Even the way he clings to her, bringing her as close to him as possible, and ghosting his lips on her. A deep sigh rolls off of him, and she settles down onto him. Wishing that this was the Brooks she always got. “I love you, Brooksie.”
“Love you, too, Sa…Annie,” if it wasn’t for a soft snore coming from him, she would question more. Thinking she almost heard him say someone else’s name. But he wouldn’t. He couldn’t. He’s usually working. And he’s been working later.
“Brooks?” just more snoring. She tells herself it was a snore, and he wasn’t going to say someone’s name. Because that would be just silly.

Why are the theatre/film schools like that? 💀💀💀
In mine most profs were complete idiots. One of them, a well know actor and the president of the Academy at that time, did absolutely nothing in class. He bailed most of the time due to “shootings” and the few days he came we practically did nothing, just some chats with him about his job. To grade us he asked us to write in a paper what we thought we deserved. I kid you not.
Another one, who was a tv producer, was most likely very mentally ill and undiagnosed cause he would have the most random shitty ideas that we had to comply with and a lot of mood-swings. The day of the final exam he came 40 mins late because he was smoking week in front of the back door and then proceeded to give us the weirdest exam ever that kept us a minimum of 3 hours there. We had to make a plan of how to shoot an event and he kept adding snipers, famous people and animals to the mix.
There was one that I deeply hated cause we had 3 classes with him that were practically the same. He was more on the sociology side but did not know at all how to be a professor. His classes consisted of spiting facts and giving 10+ random bibliography per day. I learned nothing and I still have murderous waves every time someone mentions his name.
There was a couple who were married and had the sane vibe of old and way to classical. They were harmless until the end, when we learned that they blocked A LOT OF THINGS to make the space and curriculum better. Like, requesting funding to take a paid intern for their research lab of 3d shit, choosing the one (a friend of mine), signing the contract and then NEVER DO ANYTHING NOR SPEAK WITH THE CHOSEN PERSON. She had to go crying to the dean for a response and even then they were not held accountable. The school employed her as a paid intern in another department to make up for it but the rest never got resolved.
Other profs were alright, just very weird characters. The screenwriter prof was a very funny man but deeply depressed and had us all worried at first hour on Mondays (his Very Bad Day).
And on top of that was The Building™️. You see, ours was made by a very famous architect and it won several awards. Every couple of weeks we had someone taking photos of it. However, it’s the most impractical building ever because it was built as at a museum and not a school. The chairs are absolutely demential. So uncomfortable and very easily breakable BUT they cannot be replaced until 20-30 years from now because they signed a contract with the architect that said so. There is one (or two if your lucky) power plug per class but millions on the corridors. The bathrooms stalls are so narrow that if you want to enter with a bag/backpack you cannot close the door. In fact, some of those doors barely close without anyone inside. The editing rooms have gigantic windows where you cannot block the light so you can’t see shit on the computers. Well, windows are a thing in general. Classrooms have them but only one of them can be open partially with a button and let me tell you it does not help to ventilate properly 🙊. And the doors, boi, most of them had the handle broken so someone was always at risk of getting trapped there. You taught that they would fix this but it’s been more than 6 years since I finished and it’s still the same. There’s a twitter account that posts the shenanigans that are going on and most shit is the same.
So yeah, wild shit is always happening I guess 🤷🏻♀️

literally all film/theatre schools are same shit different channel slkdfjsldkjflskdjflskdjflsdjflsdkjf oh i feel you for all of this. most of our profs did actually know what they were talking about thank god, but a lot of them were old bastions and hadn't worked professionally in AGES so they were sooooo out of date to how the scene actually operated in the modern era. we had a couple of real characters and one of which was the director for my thesis show, who was five foot zero inches and thin as a twig, wore leather pants frequently and called everyone 'lovey'. and like i previously said, was somewhere between 65 and 85 and nobody could tell bc she occasionally went to switzerland to have some crazy type of botox done to her face. we did have potentially maybe two sexual abusers?? i never got confirmation on any of it bc it was kept sooo tightly under wraps but in one case i'm not sure if there was any evidence brought forward (he was just a regular abuser though, that guy fucking SUCKED), and the other guy i only found out about from a former student bc the whole thing got swept under the rug bc his wife ALSO worked in the department. also the whole staff was like. so racist. the year after i left one of the shows that went up to committee for season suggestion was a show written in the 70s that had a bunch of racial slurs in it (and no people of colour in the script) and almost the entire student body put a petition up to remove it from selection but the director wouldn't stand down so they did it anyways 💀💀💀 i was fucking glad i was out of that hellhole by that time.
and oh my god the building architecture.....never before have i been so glad that there's no famous architects from anywhere near my hometown bc fuckin YIKES. we had a designated separate building from the rest of campus that was built in the 80s specifically for the theatre department, so we rarely left bc all the rehearsal rooms + class rooms were all in there with the theatres. and almost no non-theatre students came in bc there was only one 'theatre' class that a non-registered theatre major could take, and that was a public speaking class, so every time that class happened once a week we'd all give eyeballs to the lost looking business and sciences majors coming in. also there were signs on like every door that said 'no non theatre personnel beyond this point' (bc the building also had the box office and held audiences for when the shows were running) so anyone who was lost always looked extra lost. plus the whole thing was a huge maze bc there were upper level catwalks and corridors that connected the grid + fly systems between the two theatres, so the techies sometimes would go up to the upper levels and not come down for the entire day.
oh and there was a tradition where if you had sex in the building you would mark the spot with a black 'x'. in my first year we did a show with a big coffin as one of the setpieces and on one of the last nights of the run two of the actors fucked in it
#i literally do not know why they did bc it was not a nice plush coffin. it was literally a plain wood box#and there were a TON of wood shavings inside it so i know someone got splinters in their ass#someone also had sex in the upper level of the costume loft and i have no idea y bc 1) dusty 2) mothballs 3) the floor was a fucking GRATE#OH and two actors fucked on the upper level of the fly tower WHILE a bunch of ppl were still in the theatre. that was funny#i dont actually think this happens anymore it fell a bit out of vogue in my fourth year bc as a year we were so fucking boring#and when i say boring i mean we all were very dedicated to working and were not big partiers#but the year under us was a MESS. but im not sure if they ever got told about the tradition or not#its so nice to know that performing arts schools are always the same no matter what country theyre in lskdjflks#im literally in shock at the one about the three hour exam like what the fuck...?????????? huh?? what????????#thank fucking god we only had tests in our theatre history classes holy shit#moral of the story: DO NOT GO TO THEATRE SCHOOL#text#answers#non kpop questions#✨🎥 anon

You know after reading and reading and reading peoples theories and the meta from before the spn finale aired and the meta writers reactions to the finale I think I have a theory of my own. We don't have any answers tho, so this is pure speculation. If you wanna add something to support or discredit any of this that's cool but there's too many things floating around. Know I dont have proof for this conclusion at all. A lot of what I say is just guesses based on previous facts.
This all came together in my head when I realized how much this finale REEKS of the original producers and who the show was originally for. It REEKS of Robert Singer. Like if the execs started saying they didn't want it, Robert Singer was the one pushing that the story was about the brothers. That kinda thing.
Then, I was thinking of the problems in this episode and it struck me these are all of Supernatural biggest issues and to be honest all of it feels completely deliberate.
Take the sexism for example, Supernatural in it's later seasons largely out grew this, we have Jody, Rowena, Donna, Charlie, Mary, Claire (and even a wayward sisters pilot with MORE women/girls) all making regular appearances. They're mainly good characters and mostly aren't there to hurt our boys. Rowena, of course, is the one outlier being very about herself but it's clear she still cares for them, I mean its part of her development. But they're all real, with character flaws just like everyone else. (And we have Death too and she was POC 😭 THANK GOD)
Now look at the earlier half of Spn, we have Ellen and Jo, who's appearances were far in between. There's Bela in season 3, recurring for quite a bit (5 eps), but she is a character that is only there for herself, definitely not found family (unlike Ellen & Jo), and she's got more episodes in season 3 than Ellen and Jo in season 2 who aren't seen again til season 5. The "fans" send in hate mail after hate mail to try to get these characters off, and eventually they are. Then there's Ruby who's character stayed for a whole two seasons and was a largely recurring character. Why does she get to say so long? She's a plot device. She's supposed to be there to betray Sam. She has to stay (plus Jared obviously likes her). But she's not just a character the writers like writing about. Same with Lilith. Obviously not as recurring but still a plot device. Did they get hate mail tho? You can bet on it. Why? because tHeY'rE gOnNa PuSh ThE bOyS (Dean and Sam) aPaRt ThE sHoW iS aBoUt ThE bOyS oNlY. Without even thinking about the hate mail, just notice how large the difference is from how women are seen in the earlier seasons to the later seasons. Misha got tons of hate mail too for being a character that could split up the boys (probably only being allowed to say because he a man, thanks sexist producers and execs).
Only after Castiel was killed off and then Castiel fans successfully (thank you guys) got him back on the show did the hate mail largely simmer, which means female character's were allowed to stay! Which has lead us to a show with a good amount of female characters. But can you imagine having to kill characters off time and time again because people keep complaining that the show is "only about the boys." Fun times really.
So now we get to this final and we see sexism. But it wasn't just the plain old regular sexism you find in the earlier days of spn. Because now, there ARE women to talk about, talk to. But this episode was DESOLATE women wise, unless they were used for plot (which is also sexist!). Small scenes, they're barely there. Women gets her tongue cut out. Random women from s1 gets killed. Sam doesn't SPEAK of Eileen. Nothing. No mention of any female characters from the boys mouths unless they were from/in this episode itself. That's WIERD. I know we've all said it. But that goes beyond forgetting about characters. I mean its SAM'S GIRLFRIEND for Christ's sake. There is NO REASON they couldn't have said Eileen's name. Notice how Sam's wife is just... faceless. This is literally an age old sexist trope. Like... one of the things about bringing Mary back to life for s12+ is that it takes this trope... of basically a generic mother, and gives her life and feelings, whether you like them or not, they're real feelings. They said Mary isn't just a mom she's a person. Mary's existence in the later half of spn is to fix this kind of female tropes that fall upon her character, to not let these her stay a 2 dimensional character. They said we should know she's more than just the mom who tried to save her kid. Do that is the exact opposite of Sam getting a nameless, faceless wife. The sexism of the old spn wasn't just brought back, it was completely amplified. It wasn't just accidental or some exec "fixing" the story it was DELIBRATE. Whoever wrote that, didn't do ALL OF THAT by accident. Because an exec or a producer who doesn't see the flaws in old supernatural isn't going to write it that deliberately.
Let's bring it back to s10 when Charlie was killed (singer was mainly to blame). Dead in the bathtub, age old classic of burying ur gays. If you were here you know people never let Supernatural live that down. THEY KNOW what bury ur gays means. Hell, Robbie Thompson left because of Charlie's death and you think the writers don't know what it means? I mean both Bobo Berens (especially) and Steve Yockey's careers are centered around LGBT+ storytelling and you think they don't know? They know. They know.
And Dean wasn't just apart of the bury your gays trope, it is so far BEYOND that. Dean being killed on a rusty nail/screw, the tongues ripped out, things that seemed to be meant for other people. Jensen's acting in the last two episodes was giving us "DEAN RECIPROCATES" but no one ever actually saying it. I think it's clear that Dean was killed for being Bi. They didn't address it for a reason, they just silenced him. His narrative was supposed to be about letting him be HIM for the first time, to say what his feelings are instead of having them miscommunicated, and instead of doing that, they just silenced him. And the more we look at this scene the more horrific it gets. The more it's a complete slap in the face and it's supposed to be. Some guy who knows nothing about the LGBT can't write a scene this horrific.
Some guy who knows nothing about Dean couldn't write a scene that deconstructs all of Dean's character development and gives Dean his worst nightmare. I MEAN DEAN WANTED TO LIVE HIS LIFE! THEY DIDNT HIDE THAT JOB APPLICATION (or whatever job related thing that was) IN THERE FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES THEY WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST SITUATION. Dean isn't Barney from HIMYM. If you watched HIMYM then you'll know Barney went from being a stereotypical ladies man and treating women terribly to being in love with a women and treating her right and working hard for it. The last episode of HIMYM (why its so bad) Barney's character development is thrown out and he's back to being a stereotypical ladies man. You don't need to know Barney's character very much to do that.
To kill Dean during a hunt his father never finished, to not have anyone at his funeral, to have Dean die young like his life didn't matter. Those are Dean's worst fears and you'd only truly know that if you watched the gin episode in s3, where they are basically laid out for you. You HAVE to know Dean's character to tear him apart like this.
This episode took all the core elements of the show and did a complete 180° the name of the episode itself is "Carry on" and Dean and Sam very much did not carry on. Sam grieving his entire life so that he good get to heaven and see Dean again. Dean being ready to live his life, despite the enormous pitfalls and learning to love himself only to be killed. "Family don't end with blood." Um.... it did in that episode either literally with Dean's death or you know BECAUSE NONE OF THEIR FOUND FAMILY WAS THERE. Not Jack, Not Cas, Not Eileen, Not Donna, Not Charlie, Not Jody, Not Claire... on and on we go. No one was there, nobody was even mentioned. Dean's funeral, no one even called that we know of. It was just Sam and Dean. Sam and Dean. And Bobby. Don't forget Bobby. But yeah Sam and Dean.
That's what the show is about right, the brothers.
Except it's not anymore. It hasn't been for years.
Cas not being there was deafening but it brought us to a major point. Becky. Becky's telling us about the terrible ending.
And many of us are wondering why would they literally tell us this is the worst ending and then... make it the ending.
Now before we move on, it very apparent many of you think Dabb doesn't ship Deancas. And Dabb doesn't care about the characters.
Say what you will about any plot holes in his writing, the point he is VERY GOOD at writing the characters, and giving us good ones.
Why do we know Dabb ships Deancas? (ill say when its cowrote, other wise its not) cowrote ep 8.02 - purgatory "I prayed to you, Cas, every night" "Cas, Buddy, I need you." "I have a price on my head, and I've been trying to stay one step ahead of them, to – to keep them away from you." 8.08 Hunteri Heroici - Cas helps them hunt! 😊❤ Dean & Cas have a serious convo about why Cas doesn't want to see/go to heaven. 8.22 Dean's mad at Cas. Sam's explanation of why Dean should be easy on Cas: "It's Cas." Dean then points out how he'd knife anybody else if they did what Cas did. 9.10 - Cas comforts Dean when Dean can't take seeing Sam (Gadreel) being tortured anymore. Also tons of Cas. 9.20 (bloodlines) - Canonical couple parallel "I was there, where were you" 9.22 The angels make Cas choose between them and killing Dean and he "gave up an entire army for one guy" 10.09 Claire's reintroduction. Cas heavy ep. DeanCas date. 10.22 THE PRISONER - u know the ep where Dean beats the shit out of Cas but loves him enough to not kill him.
We COULD keep going but I think I've made my point. If Robert Singer is the guy that is like "the show is about Sam and Dean only" Andrew Dabb is the DeanCas shipper. And you could even say a Cas stan.
Notice! How in s13 for SEVEN episodes we have a story that revolves around Dean's grief about losing Cas. Notice! How often the stories in all these seasons have a focus on their relationship. THAT is Andrew Dabb. If it weren't for him doing that, we wouldn't be able to easily say after Dean's lack of a response to Cas' confession, that Dean reciprocates.
To me, when I was (binge) watching s12 for the first time, I thought damn this is really got a lot of DeanCas. So I went to look at who was in charge, who was writing. I saw Andrew Dabb, associated him with Deancas episodes, saw all the new writers, Bobo, and then I saw that Yockey is known for same sex stories and it clicked. Dabb assembled a team to give us Destiel. THAT WAS IN SEASON 12!!!!!!!!
The amount of people saying he's homophobic flabbergast me. Open your eyes! That isn't what's going on.
Imagine making a show and trying to right all the wrongs of Supernatural. Imagine trying to write the greatest love story ever told and you have the entire season planned out for it to end off beautifully, it may possibly be your greatest achievement when it's done and then boom. someone comes in and tells you you aren't allowed to make Dean bi or make destiel endgame, after he was most probably already given the go ahead.
Sure. You could imply he's bi or into cas still in a way. Still make nice-ish ending. just give everyone what the kinda want.
Or you could scrap the last season, nothing close to a canonical bisexual Dean Winchester or Deancas endgame in site. People can be done with it be happy with the show, continue to live their lives in ignorance as to how close they were to Canon destiel.
OR you can lead everyone to the very closest you can get them to what you were aiming for and then show everyone the ugly truth and reality. Light it all on fire. Burn the show to the ground in your wake. Try your darnedest to making these people's (the people saying no) pockets suffer. Show us, the audience, what happened. Show us what this show really is.
I've seen people talk about the ending being changed during covid but I dont think that happened. I think what happened was Dabb already had this season planned out before it even started. Obviously the details were wobbly but it was all lead up to this ending. Destiel endgame, Canon Bisexual Dean, whatever it was. They were ready to write the greatest love story ever told and then someone shut it down.
Imagine the pain that must have caused them to be told no when they already said yes. They must have been so excited to give this to us.
I think someone (some producers) told him what this show is "really" about. The brothers. Can you imagine, after being told no, some kinda bullshit like this is said to you: "Why aren't you bringing it back to the brothers, Andrew? that's what the shows about. What with all this homosexual stuff, you know the audience won't like that. Not really." Imagine the original producers pushing this kind of view on you. "You know when we started it was Sam and Dean. It should end with Sam and Dean." That kinda sounds like someone huh? huh.
So why give us a nice acceptable finale, when you can take every problem Supernatural's had either up front or behind the scenes and create a finale so incredibly bad that people don't want to watch it anymore.
Someone made a good point about how Sam was originally supposed to be the main focus (this isn't to put any hate on Sam or Jared). Dean and Sam are the main characters but Sam was supposed to be the focus and for Dean to have become the focus, must have annoyed the producers because... well here we are. They wouldn't listen to Jensen. The producers liked this ending. Jensen's opinion didn't matter to them.
In some ways, if this is really what happened, it can be seen as childish from Dabb. To hurt all of us like that. Yes, he's hurting the producers, the execs, the cw. But to hurt us? Yeah it stings.
But in other ways, if this is really what happened, this is Dabb showing us the muck and gunk under the shiny surface. The hate for Misha. The hidden hate for Jensen. The underlying sexism. The underlying homophobia. The people REALLY in charge don't care about us, they just want our money. He needed to open our eyes and free us, at least free the people that he was writing for. The people he sees that care about this show.
This is the ending the powers that be wanted and its a big fuck you for a reason. I dont think this is Dabb spitting in our faces for loving this show, I think this is him trying to get revenge for us.
But from here, you can see it how u want it. If this is really what happened, I'm not in charge of your emotions, if you wanna be mad be mad if you wanna be grateful be grateful. And you don't have to believe me either I said this is speculation.
Also, as for all of the rumors like there being shots to the confession scene that we didn't see, which Jensen himself implied, I think that might have been a last ditch effort to canonized DeanCas but obviously it was cut. Like the name change was pretty clear. As for Misha possibly having shot some stuff for 20 I dont know what to tell you. If it's true I dont know where the blame would lie.
I do think however, that if all this was the case, the writers were prepared to become villians here. I mean they told us the writers were villians with Chuck right? So. Who knows what went down so they could give us such a vile ending. It could've been the producers or the writers, who truly knows. I do think tho that people we "trust" did some pretty shitty things to push the narrative in certain directions so now one would see this as the actual ending that was coming.
So again do with my SPECULATION what you will. This was in no way meant to put Dabb on a pedestal or anything. Just meant to give a bit of perspective.
(Also Jensen didn't unfollow Dabb recently he was already unfollowed for years)

The Royal Series | Pt. VII
The Royal Series Masterlist
Sometimes, time ran faster than you could comprehend. A month after your trip to Amsterdam, you were filled to the brim with contentment.
Not only were you happy that you and Harry were official, but somewhere amidst that trip and what followed, a friendship seemed to spark between you and Prince Fred.
Fred was more than meets the eye. He was respectful, funny, and an understand person, and perhaps that all was deeply appreciated but none other than your best friend, Nia, whom Fred had been seeing for a short while after way too many stolen glances, soft teasing, and hushed conversations in Amsterdam, though they were yet to make anything official.
"Y/N, come on," Fred groaned as he sat on your sofa. "I can't possibly take her there."
You rolled your eyes, putting your laptop aside as you crossed your legs and turned his way. "You can't always take her to fancy restaurants, that's boring."
"And I can't also be seen in an amusement park when our families are basically planning our wedding."
You sighed, your shoulders slumping in response.
“Also, about that, have you told Harry yet?"
You pursed your lips together, shaking your head. "No," you looked at him, "I haven't."
"Y/N..." Fred dragged, leaning his head back.
"I know! I know what you're thinking but I can't tell him anything when he's on tour. Tonight is his last day in the first leg of the tour then he's coming back and won't go back until March. I think I have time." You shrugged. "I have time, don't I?"
"Not for long." He answered, reaching to take the cup of orange juice you poured him. "If he's the right person, he'll stay." Fred reminded you.
"What if he's the right person and he doesn't?" You asked quietly, "How can he, after his girlfriend drops news like that on him?" You rubbed your temple, closing your eyes.
"Have some faith, will you?" Fred said, "Have you told your brothers about him?"
"Not yet. I'm telling them tonight. They're coming over for dinner." You answered him, standing up and stretching your arms over your head.
"What an eventful life." Fred chuckled, unlocking his phone and looking at the screen. "Fuck, I have to leave. I have two hours to get ready for my date."
You cooed, poking his arm. "By the way, Nia will look stunning tonight."
“How did y-Ah,” he chuckled, “Group chat or whatever.”
"You bet." You pointed at him, "Don't forget. The olive jacket, not the navy blue one."
"Yes, ma'am." Fred nodded, walking towards the door with you behind him. "Have any plans for that breakfast in Buckingham we're having tomorrow?"
"Think we should have fun. Show Ganny that this is the last thing we need." You told him, holding your door knob.
Fred nodded as he looked at you while holding his jacket on his arm. "Seeing Harry tomorrow?"
You grinned, nodding. "I am."
He smiled, leaning down and pressing a chaste kiss on your cheek. "Have fun tonight. I'll see you tomorrow."
"You have fun, too. Take a picture or two and send them to me, yeah?" You wiggled your eyebrows making him laugh. "I'll see you tomorrow, Freddie."
With that, he left.
Right as you closed the door, FaceTime's ringtone came from your laptop. You took long strides towards it, smiling when you saw it was Harry. You instantly accepted the video call, already feeling giddy as it connected.
It only took about 3 seconds before you saw his face, looking tired yet with a heart-warming wide smile, "Hi."
You tilted your head, smiling softly at him, "Hi."
"I'm at the airport," Harry said, flipping the camera to show you what was around him before turning and showing you a group of people, all waving and calling for him. "Was just there with the fans." He informed you before flipping the camera again so you could see his face. "And I miss you."
If you really and literally had butterflies in your stomach, you were pretty sure they were constantly growing in numbers every time you talked to Harry. "I miss you, too. I'm seeing you tomorrow, aren't I?"
"You definitely are. Y-Hang on, baby," his eyes looked away from his phone as he talked to someone else.
Completely oblivious to the tint on your cheeks and the wide grin on your face at the pet name. "Baby." You had whispered quietly to yourself, leaning your head back on the couch.
"Hm?" Harry looked at you, "Did you say anything, love?"
"No," you shook your head. "You just called me something new, that's all."
Harry's eyebrows furrowed and if it weren't for the fact that he was a continent away, you would've kissed that frown away. "I did?"
"You called me baby." You giggled.
The amusement and admiration went both ways because hearing your giggle, seeing you with your hair up in a messy ponytail and glasses on your face, Harry couldn't help but silently admire the way you looked and sounded. You looked effortlessly beautiful; the kind of beautiful he never encountered and the kind of beautiful he never would've thought would call "his.” "I did, didn't I?" Harry smiled, looking at you through his phone's screen, "You bring out the sap in me."
"I'm not complaining." You shrugged with a soft laugh.
Harry chuckled, looking up from his phone before looking at you again. "I have to go now, love."
"Are you still sure about me not picking you up from the airport?" You asked him.
"We can't risk you getting seen." Harry repeated his words from a couple of days ago, "I'll be all yours at 7 tomorrow."
You sighed, nodding. "Right, I know. You're right. Text me when you land?"
"Of course. I'll see you soon. And because I won't be there tonight, goodnight, baby." He pressed his lips to his front camera, making you break into a smile.
"Goodnight, H." You pressed a kiss to your hand before putting it on your laptop screen. As you both waved, you ended the call.
//
"How's your campaign going, Tiny?" Your brother, Harry, asked before taking a sip of his wine.
"Really well. We reached 3 million just last night." You grinned, watching as everyone erupted in supportive cheers.
"Y/N, that's amazing!" Meghan gasped.
"And it's only going to grow and get better. Good job, Y/N." Kate smiled warmly at you before looking at William.
"I knew you could do it." William said with a grin, "Pa would be so happy for you."
You cringed, "Let's not talk about that part of the family right now," you began, tucking a locket of hair behind your ear, "Especially since I'm telling you something that they won't like."
Your brothers and their partners all broke into serious faces, looking at you intently. Har put his fork down, leaning closer to the table, "Are you okay?"
You nodded instantly, gulping a sip of wine. "I'm okay, great even. It's good news."
"Well say it, I'm shitting myself." Har said, making you laugh.
"Okay, uh," you cleared your throat before looking at them. "You know Harry?" Everyone looked at your brother in confusion, making you roll your eyes. "Not this one."
"Styles?" William asked and you nodded, "Oh, you mean your Romeo. What about him?"
"We're uh," you smiled nervously, putting your hands on the table. "We're together now."
"Like officially?" Meghan asked.
You nodded, "I saw him when I was in Amsterdam with my friends and we made it official."
Meghan awed, standing up and approaching you to wrap her arms around you, "I'm so happy for you!"
You grinned, letting her give you one final squeeze before she sat down beside your brother. "He really seems decent, Y/N. I'm happy for you." Kate grinned at you.
"Thank you, Kate." You smiled back at her before glancing at your brothers who seemed to be in thought. "What?"
"When are we meeting him?" William asked, "Har, you remember a move or two from your military service?"
"Of course, I do. We can learn a few new moves, too. Just to show him that he can't break Tiny's heart." Harry replied back, dramatically hitting his fist against his palm, laughing as you groaned.
"Yup, you're never meeting him." You nodded.
"Aw, come on!" He laughed, "We're just looking out for you."
"Just because I'm a father of two kids and soon third, doesn't mean I'm any less of an older brother to my baby sister." William shrugged at you with a teasing grin.
"You're awful!" You laughed as you all began to stand up from the table.
"Wait," Kate looked at you before laughing in disbelief, "Does that mean he met Fred in Amsterdam? He knows?"
You nodded, "They did. Actually, here’s the funny part. Harry still doesn't really know about the whole thing with Fred."
"Oh shit." Meghan instantly reacted.
You nodded, holding yours and William's plates in your hands as you shook your head with a smile to your two housemaids once they approached to help, giving them a “Thanks, we got it” as you walked to the kitchen, your brother Harry behind you with his and Meghan's plates. "Are you going to tell him?"
You put the plates by the sink before leaning on the counter as the rest came to the kitchen, putting plates and cups away. "I am. Tomorrow."
"Noticed you and little Freddie are friends now." William said, fixing the apple magnet on your fridge.
"He's interested in Nia."
"I feel like you're in a teenage drama series." Kate joked.
You laughed, "But seriously, I'm happy with how things are now. I mean, imagine how bad would it be if he wasn't actually interested in someone else? Besides, he's a great person."
"Harry's just greater." Har said before letting out a low groan, "We have to find him a new name."
"Romeo." William said, making you swat him on the arm.
"Romeo it is."
"No!"
//
Standing up and smoothening your black dress, you smiled politely at Fred's parents.
"So good to see you, Your Highness. You have grown to be a beautiful woman." His mother, Lady Gwen, smiled at you as she kissed your cheeks.
"Thank you. You look wonderful." You complimented her with a smile.
"There's the princess! Look at you!" His father, Dean, exclaimed, shaking your hand enthusiastically.
You chuckled, glancing at Fred who rolled his eyes at his parents from behind them. As they both moved to greet your family, you and Fred greeted each other with a firm handshake, both snickering to yourselves. "Hello, Fredrick."
"Hello, Your Highness Princess Y/N. It's wonderful to see you." Fred said, bowing his head.
"How was your date?" You whispered, wide eyed.
Fred grinned, the blush on his cheek not going unnoticed by you. "Amazing."
You let out a low squeal before looking behind you at everyone else settling, "We should sit. Come on."
Taking your seats and sitting after your grandmother sat, everyone chatted quietly.
"Y/N here told me that you had fun in Amsterdam." Your grandmother told Fred, smiling at him.
Fred glanced at you before looking at her and nodding, "We did. Y/N has very nice friends."
"She does," she staggered, "It's only because she's nice herself. When she was young, you could easily mistake her for an angel." She laughed.
Your siblings snickered under their breath, knowing for fact that none of you were angels when you were younger. You had broken way too many ornaments and precious Chinas to be angels.
"What about your older days, Y/N?" Fred smirked, looking at you.
You shrugged in a smug manner, "Not so angelic. What about you, Fred? Are you any angel?"
"Definitely not. I like to relax by listening to heavy metal and attending raves undercover. In fact, I have taken a liking for tattoos. Think maybe I should get a small one," he leaned closer, as if he only wanted to direct his next words to only you, "On my rear." Fred said before leaning back on his chair casually, holding his cup of tea as his parents stared at him in shock, as did the Queen,
"Vulgar." You said under your breath jokingly, causing him to laugh, covering his mouth.
"Scandalous." He whispered.
"Oh honey, you're too humble," Lady Gwen began, looking at her son as she chuckled nervously. "You know, Y/N, Fred here is an amazing polo player, just like you." She grinned, raising her eyebrows.
Giving her a tight smile, you replied. "Oh, I actually stopped playing polo."
Her face fell, glancing at her husband who coughed to stifle his chuckle. "Is that so?" She chuckled reluctantly, "Well but you still play the piano, right? Fred here is excellent when it comes to music. Fred plays piano so well."
"I don't actually. I like playing the cello. Piano is a bit boring for me." Fred replied.
"And I don't always play the piano for everyone. Just a few people get to see and hear me play the piano." You added before steadily eating a berry.
Your eyes caught your grandfather who was laughing as he looked at his cup of English tea. He looked up, giving you a discreet wink before bringing his cup to his lips.
"Remember when you broke that cello Eugenie got for my 21st birthday?" Har asked you, playing along.
You nodded, "God, these instruments are just enormous. Take up too much space."
"Okay," Lady Gwen laughed awkwardly, "Tell us about your Amsterdam trip. It was fun, wasn't it?"
"It was," You nodded, "My favourite part was when we all went to that nude beach."
Your father, Prince Charles, choked on his tea, having Camilla rub his back soothingly. Your brothers, however, weren't discreet as they burst out laughing, your grandmother looking at you in horror.
You casually sipped your tea, looking at Fred, "It was a fun trip, wasn't it?"
//
"It's really cold, isn't it?" You asked one of your personal guards, Sid, hugging your sweater closer to your body as you got out of the car.
"Just like how December should be." He smiled warmly down at you.
"It's our favourite season of the year, Sid." You smiled, remembering how years ago when you were younger, you had a conversation with Sid about how you liked December season and how festive it was, "You can really go the coffeeshop around here or do anything you want."
Andrew nodded at you as they both walked you to Harry's front door, standing at a fair distance. "We'll feel better waiting here."
"If you change your mind, you can text me. I'm just going to stay indoors." You said before ringing Harry's door bell and taking a step back.
"Have a good night, Princess Y/N." Sid tipped his head slightly at you.
"You, too, Sid. And you, too, Andrew."
As soon as you finished your sentence, the door opened to none other than the man you would proudly shout that he was yours. His hair tousled on his head, almost transparent framed eyeglasses fixed on his nose, a grey sweater and black joggers covering him as he stood barefoot. Harry instantly wrapped his arms around your waist, making you squeal as he carried you off of the ground, walking backwards and inside the house, making you wrap your limbs around him as you pressed a kiss to his cheek.
"God, I missed you." He breathed out against your neck, pressing a chaste kiss on your skin before kissing your shoulder. He kicked his door shut after making sure your guards weren't standing there and walked inside his house, with you still wrapped around him.
"Feels like years since I last saw you." You whispered against his shoulder, moving your lips to press a kiss on his sweater clad skin. "You smell nice."
"Yeah?" He smiled, plopping on his couch, with you on his lap. His hands moved to clasp his fingers behind your back to support it, making you lean back to get a better look at him.
You grinned, moving your hands to cup his cheeks, squishing his face so he looked like a fish, making you laugh and Harry to shut his eyes, letting out a muffled "kiss.” You let his cheeks go, resting your hands on his shoulders and leaning down till your lips were pressed against each other, chest to chest.
It was something that puzzled Harry himself. You see, Harry read all about relationships, the stages and love. He read about women and men and mostly knew about what to say and when to say it (sometimes). He read all about the thumping heartbeats and butterflies. He read all about the stages; infatuation, liking and falling in love. Harry read all about lust and emotional connection. Harry seemed to know what to do and understanding to how he was feeling; he had a plan. But that's the thing. It was never about lists and plans.
You meet someone for the first time and all of the sudden, it's like your heart has been yearning for so long. You see them and you think all about the good the world has to offer — the good that you want to offer.
You meet someone and all you want to do is write about them; their eyes, their laugh, the crinkle of their nose.
You make lists and plans and it all crumbles when you meet someone. That's the thing about love, the best kind of it is when it's spontaneous. When you have no idea what the fuck you are feeling or when the fuck you began to feel it but fuck, it's going to be the best feeling you've ever felt.
So, with a blanket covering the both of you, Amy Winehouse's vinyl playing and your hushed whispers making you giggle as your head was on Harry's arm as you both lied down on the sofa, it all felt natural and familiar. His hand playing with yours, lacing your fingers together before tracing your palm lines as he told you all about Tokyo. Looking into his face, your lips seemed to have a mind of their own as they pulled up in a faint smile as you watched him talk, green eyes boring into yours.
Without thinking, his hand that was draped from the sofa as you slept on his other arm was raised, beginning to softly stroke your hair as Harry continued talking, seeming oblivious to his actions. You hummed, turning to your side and fully looking at him, your leg on his.
"How do you celebrate Christmas?" He asked gently, looking at you with so much care.
"Well," you lied more comfortably in his arms, "We go to Granny's country home in Norfolk. We open gifts on Christmas Eve then at 5 that day, it's time for tea and all that in the saloon then it's fancy dinner. I usually stay with Will at his place instead of with Granny because it's always too noisy and there's always a commotion there so we leave after dinner," you told him slowly, your palm on his chest as he looked down on you, "On Christmas day, we have breakfast then we attend the church service at St. Mary's Magdalene. At 1, it's turkey time then at 3, we watch granny's speech. It's hectic but nice."
"That's really eventful," Harry admitted, bringing her body closer to his, "When are you usually done with everything?"
"Around 5:30."
"What do you say," he began, his dimple seen as he gave you a cheeky smile, "You spend the rest with me?"
Your eyebrows furrowed but the smile didn't leave your face as you shuffled back a little to have a better look at his face, "Where?"
"Back at my home, in Cheshire." Harry nodded slowly, his hand grazing and tracing your hip.
"With- with your family?" You let out a small laugh of disbelief. Harry grinned and nodded. "You want me to meet your family?" You asked quietly, moving to lie on top of him, making him laugh and lock his arms behind your back.
"It's Christmas. I can't think of a better vibe for a first meeting and I certainly can't wait for next year's Christmas." Harry answered, giving you a shrug.
"Are you sure about this?" You asked him, nuzzling your head in his shoulder as you tried to stifle your grin.
"I'm sure." Harry replied back as quietly.
And because for the rainbow to beautify the world, there has to be rain, your smile faltered. You sighed against his shoulder before pulling away and sitting up, getting somewhat seated on Harry's thighs with your legs on either side of his body.
"What is it?" He asked, frowning. "Does it make you uncomfortable? Because we've been together for a month? I just - I thought that we've known each other for three months now and it has been ama-"
"H," you chuckled, cutting him off. You leaned down, giving his lips a soft peck, "It's not about that. I'm flattered that you want me to meet your family."
"Then what is it?"
You leaned back again and sat, your palms resting his stomach, your eyes traveling to the bit of skin that showed from when his sweater rose up, seeing a hint of his tattoos. "I have to tell you something." You spoke, avoiding his eyes.
"Baby, you're making me nervous." Harry admitted, resting his hands on your thighs.
You gulped, glancing at his eyes for a second before looking back at where your hands rested. "I'm, uh," you stuttered, a deep frown on your face. "You know Fred?"
"Your friend?"
You cleared your throat before nodding slightly, "You know how I'm the only daughter?" You asked him, watching as he nodded, "Well, since I'm the only daughter, my family decided to plan my life ahead. My siblings did what they wanted because, I don't know, they thought of them as hopeless cases I guess but they waited for 11 years for a girl and when I came, they couldn't," you shook your head, "They couldn't have but the best for me. The best for the monarch, So they, uh," you fiddled with your fingers on his stomach, "They arranged a marriage for me."
What?" Harry instantly reacted, pushing himself to lean on his elbows as he looked at you in disbelief. "What does Fre- He's-" He sucked in a breath, "You're arranged to marry Fred?"
You nodded reluctantly, cringing when you heard Harry let out a small chuckle of disbelief.
"So you have your life planned and I'm guessing your firstborn's name and you come into my life because...?" Harry asked in disbelief, the hurt in his tone being clear enough for you to pick up on.
"No, no," you instantly denied, looking at him. "I know it sounds bad but it won't happen."
"It won't happen because you're hoping it wouldn't or it won't happen because you talked to your family and this isn't actually going to happen?" He asked you firmly, looking intently at your eyes.
You gave him no answer first, making him scoff slightly before plopping back on his back, moving his hands to his face as he rubbed it. "Harry, I wasn't lying to you." You said, moving off of him to sit beside him instead.
"You kept this from me, Y/N. Don't you think that this was the first thing I should know? You let me meet him for fuck's sa-What was he doing with you in Amsterdam? What was that?" He looked at you with a frown.
"My grandmother had him come with me as a way to get us to know each other." You replied quietly.
"And you did. Fuck, Y/N, and all these times you told me that you were with Fred, were you practicing your vows? Choosing the table cloth?" He asked sarcastically, making you almost wince.
"No, Harry. I told you the truth. I don't want to be with him. I'm not going to be with him, whatever happens."
"So your entire family must hate me, don't they?"
"They don't," you shook your head, "It's just my grandmother and father, they're still somewhat attempting because they think you're a fling or it’s just me rebelling against them."
"Am I? Am I something you're rebelling against them with, Y/N?"
"Of course not!"
Harry sighed, his rings clad hands moving to cover his face. "Is there anything else you're not telling me?"
"My brothers know about you and they want to meet you," you began, "And Fred has been seeing Nia."
"And how is Nia coping?" He asked, looking you, resting his arms beside him in defeat.
"She knows that nothing will happen. That there's no way this marriage will happen." You assured him, "I know it sounds ba-"
"Awful." Harry corrected you with a small chuckle, making you smile sympathetically.
"Awful. But I haven't been lying to you. When I told you that I really like you, I wasn't lying," you shook your head, "When I told you that being with me wasn't easy, I wasn't lying either."
"What about that time you told me that you weren't scared?" He asked gently, one hand reaching to grasp your hand on his stomach.
"I don't want to lose you." Your reply came the second he closed his mouth, determination and sincerity dripping from your words.
Harry sat up, leaning towards you until it was you on your back and him hovering you, "And I don't want to lose you."

I just wanna ask, and don’t get mad at me cause I’m genuinely curious, how do you stan Ron? Like, I like him, but he is definitely misogynistic (slut shaming Ginny, treating hermione like she owes him something and being mad that she kissed someone years before, always objectifying Fleur, and acting like girls who aren’t pretty aren’t worth much). Like, by DH I feel like he definitely has mostly grown out of it, but still 6/7 books he’s kinda unbearable IMO
how do you stan Ron?
Like this:
OH MY GOD HAVE YOU SEEN. HAVE YOU SEEN HIM DID YOU SEE MY BABY OH MY GOD. WHEN HARRY’S ARM HAD GONE KABLOOIE BECAUSE OF LOCKHART AND HE. RON. HE WAS. HELPING HIM GET DRESSED???? OH MY GOD BABY???? HHHHNNNNGGGG. AND. AND. AND ALSO WHEN HE. OMG. WHEN HE WAS PUTTING FOOD ON HIS FRIENDS’ PLATES LIKE. MOM FRIEND ALERT MOM FRIEND ALERT MOM FRIEND ALERT. AND THE WAY HE’S ALWAYS BLUSHING AND BEING EMBARRASSED AT THE SLIGHTEST PRAISE BUT ALSO HE’S SO DESPERATELY SEEKING IT BUT HE KNOWS HE CAN’T TAKE IT AND EEK EEK EEK THAT’S SO CUTE SOMEONE HOLD ME IT’S ADORABLE RONALD WEASLEY YOU ARE SO GOING TO BE THE DEATH OF ME IT’S ILLEGAL TO BE THIS CUTE!!!!
Ok and then.
he is definitely misogynistic
No. And here’s why.
slut shaming Ginny
Yes, that was wrong. And guess what, that’s also something he probably - scratch that, definitely - picked up from his mother. And also his brothers, recall how Fred and George too don’t like to see Ginny go around with boys. There’s also something to recall: Ron was there when Ginny was taken into the Chamber of Secrets and learned later that it was because she had trusted an older guy. You seriously wouldn’t be paranoid about who your sister dates after that? It was wrong. Yeah. And he more than learned his lesson when Ginny clapped back by virgin-shaming him and basically told him that he was childish because he hadn’t have a relationship yet. So would that make Ginny sexist too? Or is it just for Ron?
treating hermione like she owes him something
..................... uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh... when? When the fuck did anything like that happen?
He made a prat of himself at the Yule Ball, that much is obvious. But he didn’t tell her anything like “you should be with me” or didn’t insinuate anything of the sort. He was a jealous bitch but kept attacking Krum, not Hermione.
If you mean in sixth year when he treated her with “icy, sneering indifference” for the course of two weeks, yeah that was bad but that’s not “treating her like she owes him something”, the fuck?
being mad that she kissed someone years before
Yeah. I know. And that was bad, ooooh you got me to admit Ron did bad stuff, that’s what you want to see, right? And I reckon he was also mad that she hid it from him, and that he had to learn it from his sister of all people. We see Ron handles what he considers betrayals terribly. I have some meta discussing the possibility that he has a form of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria.
always objectifying Fleur
Um... no, he doesn’t. He makes a stupid comment about her once in GOF then stops. Let’s also fucking remember that Fleur is a Veela, she literally makes guys stare at her as part of her powers!! I’m not blaming her because she’s literally born that way, but you can’t blame someone who is under magical compulsion either.
acting like girls who aren’t pretty aren’t worth much
So tell me why he was friends with Hermione then?
Because Hermione wasn’t Emma Watson the super hawt sexy model goddess. Hermione was Mrs Generic. Until this once at the Yule Ball when she got the pretty princess perfect Mary Sue makeover but then stopped because she had to remain ~relatable uwu~.
Again. Ron made stupid sexist comments. But it’s actively shown that he doesn’t follow up on them. If he did indeed live by the motto “girls who aren’t pretty aren’t worth much”, explain to me why he wasn’t simping and drooling all over Padma Patil who is explicitly stated to be one of the prettiest girls at school when she was his date? Why exactly did he ignore her and was a miserable twat the whole evening instead of basking in the joy of having snagging a girl that was “worth it”? Well surprise, it’s because HE ACTUALLY ISN’T LIKE THAT AND WHAT HE SAYS IS MAYBE SHIT HIS “COOL OLDER BROTHERS” SAY AND HE THINKS THAT BY EXTENSION IT WOULD MAKE HIM COOL TO REPEAT IT. MIMETISM, THAT'S BASIC FUCKING HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY FOR FUCKING TODDLERS MY FUCKING GOD.
Like, by DH I feel like he definitely has mostly grown out of it,
............
...................................
...............................................................
so. so why. so why wouldn’t you. use that. as a reason. to stan him.
like.
fuck all the “hurr durr ron weasley the boy who made it out of the friendzone!!!!” bullshit, let’s start going with “Ron Weasley, the Boy who became a Man, and not one of those 'uugghh im such an alpha male’ ones but one that’s got the balls to say ‘hey love, I’ve got an idea, what if you kept doing that job you love and feel passionate about while I support you and do the majority of the childcare while also working a smaller job on the side so we’re never short on money’“
Why you people gotta be “yeah I like Ron BUTT” when you know full-well this fucking awful fandom will rake him over hot coals over the slightest mistake he does - worse, will actively go out of their way to interpret his positive moments in the most negative way possible??? Fuck off with that bullshit. Ron dared to say bad stuff omygah big deal, he was forgiven for it all and you’re just all cowards looking to feel “pure” by telling yourself “oh yeah but he was problematic once uwu”. FUCK. THAT. NOISE.
but still 6/7 books he’s kinda unbearable IMO
And IMO he’s not, funny how that works
So.
I guess it’s impossible to stan Ron because he was problematic uwu.
Ok.
Then I hereby decree that it’s impossible to stan Hermione Granger because:
“I’ll bet you wish you hadn’t given up Divination now, don’t you, Hermione?” asked Parvati, smirking. [...] “Not really,” said Hermione indifferently, who was reading the Daily Prophet. “I’ve never really liked horses.” She turned a page of the newspaper, scanning its columns. “He’s not a horse, he’s a centaur!” said Lavender, sounding shocked. “A gorgeous centaur . . .” sighed Parvati. “Either way, he’s still got four legs,” said Hermione coolly. “Any-way, I thought you two were all upset that Trelawney had gone?” - Order of the Phoenix, ch 27
wow casual use of a racial slur yay!!! A+
And it’s also forbidden to stan Harry Potter either since:
It was raining hard now, and she was nowhere to be seen. He simply did not understand what had happened; half an hour ago they had been getting along fine. “Women!” he muttered angrily, sloshing down the rain-washed street with his hands in his pockets. “What did she want to talk about Cedric for anyway? Why does she always want to drag up a subject that makes her act like a human hosepipe?” - Order of the Phoenix, ch 25
and
“Harry! There you are, thank goodness! Hi, Luna!” “What’s happened to you?” asked Harry, for Hermione looked distinctly disheveled, rather as though she had just fought her way out of a thicket of Devil’s Snare. “Oh, I’ve just escaped — I mean, I’ve just left Cormac,” she said. “Under the mistletoe,” she added in explanation, as Harry continued to look questioningly at her. “Serves you right for coming with him,” he told her severely. “I thought he’d annoy Ron most,” said Hermione dispassionately. “I debated for a while about Zacharias Smith, but I thought, on the whole —” “You considered Smith?” said Harry, revoked. - Half-Blood Prince
Victim-blaming! Nice Harry, nice. Always classy.
Ok, Ginny stanning is already cancelled because she virgin-shamed Ron, right, so who’s left, who’s left... ah yeah:
“There you go,” said Fred proudly. “Best range of love potions you’ll find anywhere.” - Half-Blood Prince
Selling date rape drugs proudly ouh là là. Bye Fred.
"Do they work?” she asked. “Certainly they work, for up to twenty-four hours at a time depending on the weight of the boy in question...” “...and the attractiveness of the girl,” said George, reappearing suddenly at their side. “But we’re not selling them to our sister,” he added, becoming suddenly stern, “not when she’s already got about five boys on the go from what we’ve...” “Whatever you’ve heard from Ron is a big fat lie,” said Ginny calmly, leaning forward to take a small pink pot off the shelf.
Assuming that only girls use love potions, and only on boys. Men never rape in JKR’s world, only women do, you heard it from George Weasley here folks, I’m just passing on the message. Ah and I hope you’re also starting the Fred And George Hate Club given how he’s also slut-shaming Ginny.
“What’s this?” “Guaranteed ten-second pimple vanisher,” said Fred. “Excellent on everything from boils to blackheads, but don’t change the subject. Are you or are you not currently going out with a boy called Dean Thomas?” “Yes, I am,” said Ginny. “And last time I looked, he was definitely one boy, not five. What are those?” She was pointing at a number of round balls of fluff in shades of pink and purple, all rolling around the bottom of a cage and emitting high-pitched squeaks. “Pygmy Puffs,” said George. “Miniature puffskeins, we can’t breed them fast enough. So what about Michael Corner?” “I dumped him, he was a bad loser,” said Ginny, putting a finger through the bars of the cage and watching the Pygmy Puffs crowd around it. “They’re really cute!” “They’re fairly cuddly, yes,” conceded Fred. “But you’re moving through boyfriends a bit fast, aren’t you?” Ginny turned to look at him, her hands on her hips. There was such a Mrs. Weasley-ish glare on her face that Harry was surprised Fred didn’t recoil. “It’s none of your business. And I’ll thank you” she added angrily to Ron, who had just appeared at George’s elbow, laden with merchandise, “not to tell tales about me to these two!”
Ah, good on you for defending yourself, Ginny, but remember, Ginny stanning is prohibited because she’s been problematic in the past and is gonna be problematic in the future and that’s baaaaaaad. Careful kids, don’t get ideas. It’s problematic to like people who’ve done problematic things.
So I guess nobody can like anything or anyone now. Sorry guys. Liking things is evil, what if the thing you liked had, OR USED TO HAVE, *gasp* flaws, can’t take that risk, ohmygah.

So, there’s this one angel story in the back of my head that I know I wont write. I wont write it, because it’s utter nonsense, with very little regard for the canonical timeline of Supernatural, and a willfully blurry view on what is and is not “in character.” It’s fluff. It’s all fluff, in the form of a bunch of smaller stories that gradually weave together, following the Love, Actually style of storytelling, but instead of problematic love stories, it’s all about angels playing hooky from Heaven after the Fall.
(Seriously, there is no substance here, I swear.)
Stories include Abner, living out the first half of the movie Family Man, struggling to figure out how to be a good father and house husband after he steps into the life of the raging alcoholic who agreed to be his vessel. There’s also a very minor story about Esther (not to be confused with Hester, who is not in this story because she never deserted her post in Heaven) learning to play the part of a little girl and navigating schoolyard politics, but kids can be mean and Esther learns the hard way that Michael’s approach to asserting dominance in Heaven does not translate well. There’s also Daniel and Adina, who both settle into vessels in the same movie theater where a romantic comedy is playing, and fall into a very innocent, play-acting sort of love after they leave the theatre—like little kids pretending to be in love, recreating the scenes from the movie, but at the same time not really understanding it. Balthazar, Gabriel, and Anael each trying to roll with the luxurious high roller life style, and awkwardly running into each other at VIP poker games, exclusive spas and clubs, and the occasional orgy that they promptly leave IMMEDATELY after running into a sibling (don’t give me weird looks, Balthazar and Gabriel canonically include that sort of thing in their definition of luxury, and the whole thing of their story is their siblings keep cramping their style). Tyrus is in there bowling, somewhere. Benjamin’s playing arcade games with his wife. And then there’s Thaddeus, my pet favorite minor angel character, realizing what’s happening as he’s falling with all the other faithful angels during the Fall and seizing the opportunity to abandon his life as a guard and torturer, settling into a pop star for his vessel—initially for the sake of the cushy lifestyle, but then gradually looking back, before the garden and Lucifer, before everyone was assigned a job in Heaven, like it or not, and the options were to adapt or to be smote, and remembering that back then, he could sing.
And of course, Michael and Adam get a story too—in which Michael lowkey gets into a pissing contest with death, as he and Adam travel the world, hitting up hospital after hospital to heal people. Because the first thing Adam wanted to do after getting out of the cage (okay, second thing—burgers came first) was go to the nearest medical center and start healing people left and right. And at first, they’re having a great time. Adam steals a white jacket he finds in the breakroom somewhere, and anytime someone says he looks a little young to be a doctor (Adam still looking nineteen years old, because I say so), Michael wipes the poor sap’s mind. But eventually—sometime after they’ve cleared out the children’s ward, the cancer ward, the cardiac ward—Billie shows up, sniping at them that they can’t just go around healing people who are destined to die, because there is an order to life and death that cannot be shoved aside. And Billie tries to make a show of it, as Terra did with Dean, by having several people who Adam had healed over the course of the day inadvertently cause several massive accidents. The news suddenly comes pouring out of the television, channels flipping as newscasters talk about tragedies occurring in several different parts of the city they’re currently in. The sound of approaching ambulance sirens fills the air, as in the hospital hallway, doctors and nurses begin hurrying to receive a rush of ER patients.
Adam’s horrified.
Michael does not take kindly to this. He snaps his fingers and makes it so that the carnage has never happened. Because he is the archangel Michael, only two steps away from being a god, and if he says that all of these people are going to live, then they are going to live, and he WILL NOT be intimidated, especially by an amateur reaper whose only qualification for her position was dying at the right time.
Billie in turn lands Michael with a cold stare, and points out that the order to life and death is beyond even God’s authority, let alone daddy’s blunt, sniveling instrument.
As Michael’s eyes start to glow, Adam steps in and says, “So, to be clear, you want us to stop healing people on the verge of death? We can do that.”
After Billie leaves, Michael is outraged, but Adam says, “No, Michael, THINK about it.”
We then cut to other stories, where newscasts in the background reveal that ailments that are not IMMIEDATELY fatal (AIDs, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, etc.) are mysteriously disappearing overnight, worldwide.
Billie is not amused, and tells her reapers to be on the lookout for an archangel at every major hospital in the world.
Cut to Michael throwing open the door of the bunker, muttering aloud to Adam that he’s going to do it, he’s going to bind Death, just like Lucifer did—how hard can it be? Sam and Dean see him as he goes stomping off toward the cabinet where they keep all of their magical dry goods, but Michael snaps his fingers and the two of them are abruptly half drunk in Dean’s man cave, sitting in front of Dean’s flat screen TV, watching some campy monster movie, because that’s lowkey what Michael and Adam assume they do all day.
As they’re raiding Sam and Dean’s supplies though, Adam says, “Wait, I have an idea.”
Cut to Abner looking up while pushing his vessel’s daughter in a park swing, and literally seeing Michael and Adam chasing an ambulance, so they can technically heal the person inside before reaching the hospital.
Yes, I’m aware that Abner was dead by the time Michael and Adam got out of the cage. But see, this story? This story is like when someone gifts you a goldfish unexpectedly, and you put it in a bowl, checking in to feed it a couple times a day, lowkey expecting it to die. But it doesn’t die, it gets bigger. And you’re not a cruel person, so you put it in a bigger tank, but it just gets bigger again, and you don’t really know what’s going on, but you know, you just kind of keep checking in, meeting the minimum requirements but not really getting in there as a guiding force because it’s a goldfish and it’s surely going to die any minute now—but then you look over and there’s giant tank taking up your living room, and you’re thawing out bloodworms twice a day, and looking into tankmates to keep Charles company, and realize that “Oh wow, I guess this is a thing now.”
In short, the story says we’re ignoring the timeline, and it’s calling the shots. I’m just keeping the tank clean.
The angels all eventually wind up running into each other. Abner and Esther happen upon one another in a park, where Esther is morosely realizing that she is terrible at being a human child but she does not want to go home to Heaven, and it just happens to be the same park where Abner goes with his “little nibblet” once a day to let her toddle around the playground while he chats with nannies and other house parents. Anael, Adina, and Daniel meet up when the latter two’s game has reached the point where they’ve decided to get married, and they apparently need to buy something new—preferably blue—as per this very important rhyme someone told them about. Esther and Gabriel run into each other in an ice cream parlor. Thaddeus gets recognized while doing an interview on TV that everyone sees. And, while out joyriding in a Lamborghini, on their way to meet up with the growing community of angels who decided to opt out of their responsibility to Heaven and their father’s legacy, Balthazar, Gabriel, and Anael are all startled to see Michael land on an ambulance stopped next to them at a red light.
Balthazar and Anael are both terrified, as if they’ve just been busted by a parent, because Michael, of course, is the guy who enforces the rules, and isn’t he supposed to be in Hell? They both shoot Gabriel looks as if to say ‘what the hell are you doing’ when Gabriel, watching as Michael climbs down and matter-of-factly wrenches the ambulance doors open, calls out, “Hey, Mike! Is that you?”
Michael looks over, freezes for a second—not prepared to be suddenly thrust into a social situation in the middle of his self-imposed mission to spite death—then his eyes flash and Adam takes over. “Oh hey, you’re Michael’s family? What a small world! I’m Adam, I’ve heard so much about you. Wait, hang on—”
The light starts to turn green, but Adam snaps his fingers and it promptly reverts to red.
Three jaws drop in the luxury car, and they don’t even hear Adam politely explain that he and Michael are in the middle of something, as he ducks into the ambulance, because Michael’s evidently letting a tiny human use his powers like it’s nothing, and what does that mean?
“Sweet dad in the unknown, Michael’s shagging a human. . .”
“Nooo!”
“HOW?”
“Hey, kid, you like weddings?”
At some point in the story, all the MIA angels are together, and Benjamin or someone comes running in saying, “Quick, they’re coming! Everyone hide!”
And everyone scatters, except for Michael, who stands in place, saying, “Gabriel, we’re archangels, two of the most powerful beings in existence. Why would we—”
And then Gabriel picks Adam up like a sack of potatoes and sprints off, calling back, “Trust me, you do NOT want to get involved with them!”
Being a projection, Michael is obligated to follow.
Team Free Will then walks by, looking constipated from whatever Big Awful Thing is currently threatening to destroy the world.
The story, of course, culminates in the wedding of Adina and Daniel, who still don’t quite understand what marriage is beyond promising to love each forever, which of course they will, after all, they are the very best of friends—which is about the same concept that most of the other angels present have. Adam is the first one to actually approach the big awkward question, upon finding out who the bride and groom are.
“Wait, aren’t they brother and sister?”
To which Serafina’s Adam, (who is of course there since Serafina was the original angel to play hooky) whose sons married his daughters, and all the angels, who do not understand what that has to do with anything, all cock their heads in unison and respond with, “So?”
Adam struggles to find words, looking into so many innocent faces. Then Benjamin’s wife puts a hand on his shoulder, whispering, “Shhh, let them have their fun.”
Benjamin’s wife and the two Adams wind up sitting at the venue’s bar, where they order nachos from a very confused bar tender, and watch as the angels go about setting up a wedding. But given that most angels haven’t been on earth regularly in roughly two thousand years, none of them have a clear grasp of what a human wedding entails.
“I heard it’s traditional for the father to give away the bride.”
“I think they’re supposed to kiss over bread.”
“Do humans still slaughter cows at these things?”
“I’m pretty sure someone is supposed to break a glass—”
Several angels promptly throw glassware on the floor.
At no point do the angels ask the humans for advice.
Occasionally, Gabriel knowingly throws out obscure details to keep the confusion going.
“You know, the groom needs to stand with the right arm to the aisle in case a sword fight breaks out.”
“Right! . . .How do we know which one’s the groom?”
At the bar, Adam open’s his mouth to say something, but the original Adam shushes him.
“No no, son, let them get there.”
The angels agree that being the better fighter, Adina should be the groom.
They’re nearly ready to start when Michael suddenly doubles over with his hand over his mouth. It coincides with the sound of Adam pounding the bar top, having just eaten a Carolina Reaper pepper on dare. Michael’s eyes quickly flash silver-blue as he straightens, and both he and Adam are abruptly fine—even if their eyes are still watering somewhat. But a different sort of damage has already been done, as Anael, Balthazar, and Gabriel all abruptly turn toward the triad of humans, having been reminded that the Michael walking around with them is actually a projection. In actuality, Michael is anchored to the human ex-college student sitting at the bar.
All three of them rush toward Adam, but Serafina gets there first, asking Adam if he’s ever tried mushroom tea.
Balthazar gets there next.
“Adam, was it? We didn’t get to talk in the car, let’s fix that. Are you over twenty-one? You know what, this is a family affair, don’t worry—CAN I GET TWO SHOTS OF DON JULIO OVER HERE?”
From that point on, any time Adam turns around, there’s one of Michael’s siblings, wanting to get to know him—by consuming some sort of beverage. Because Adam and Michael are sharing body—and that means they share a liver too. A bet ensues as to how much it will take to get God’s alleged favorite wasted.
Gabriel’s actually one of the first out, having been convinced that Michael would be a lightweight. Little does he suspect that Benjamin and his wife caught onto what was happening soon after Adam was fed his third long island iced tea and second jager bomb, and began quietly cleansing the alcohol from his system through casual shoulder pats and high fives.
Adam does not know what to make of any of this, but it’s Michael’s family and he wants to make a good impression, so he just goes with it.
Thaddeus, of course, is in charge of music, Gabriel and Esther consume the majority of the cake, and Michael catches the bouquet (he may have cheated after finding out what the bouquet toss is for).

La Petite Mort
Word count: 2.1K
Pairing: Dean X Reader AU
Warnings: None, just fluff, humour and implied sex ;)
Series Summary: The reader has just shifted to a new flat and boy, someone on the floor has a really banging sex life! The passionate moans have been keeping her up for several nights in row and enough is enough! Reader has her suspicions, but is it really the green-eyed hottie from room no. 307?
A/N: It’s a neighbours!AU. I’m finally writing one. So excited to share it with you guys. Hope y’all like it! <3
Beta: The best babe, @deanssweetheart23
Everything was fine till the banging started. Pun very much intended.
The shift had been smooth, the job was going great and life was finally on track. You had slid under the covers with the most satisfied smile in years only to be woken up to a lady very, very, very happy with her life.
Oh yeah… oh yeah… ahhh right there… oh fuck yeah…
You sat up right in your bed, eyes wide, face hot.
Third night in a row. Third fucking night. Literally.
What in the good heavens? The landlady might have mentioned this while renting out the flat!
Shoving the pillow over your ears, you fell back onto the mattress, closing your eyes shut very tightly. Eventually sleep overtook you and you lapsed into lousy dreams of trying to catch the taxi which kept evading you. Not a metaphor for your sex life at all. Nope.
The disturbed sleep didn’t help your mood the following day. Everyone at the office thought of you as a happy-go lucky person. Lately, they were seeing this whole new dark side of you. Sleep was essential to your functioning.
In the evening, on your way back, you stopped by the coffee shop downstairs to pick up a brownie. It was a little place; busy yet quaint. The barista, Charlie, made two hearts in your coffee instead of one. That put the biggest smile on your face.
At least, the day was ending on a high note.
Your newly rented flat was on the third floor of a very complicated building. One staircase did not directly lead into another. An entire hallway had to be crossed to get to it. The design probably broke a hundred different by laws and someone was definitely paid off in the city civil office to get a construction permit. You did not want to imagine how the people would fare in case of a fire emergency. Learning the escape plan was like memorising the map of a treasure hunt. You escape, you win. You lose… whoops! Better luck in next life. But the rent was cheap and you were already living all the clichés of a struggling writer- one incomplete book, a job at a publishing house and addiction to coffee. So, yes, you would brave fire when it came to being able to afford a living.
Struggling with the brownie package and the coffee in your hand you jammed the key into the door. It didn’t go in.
What the hell?
You tried again, and once more the key got jammed. On a closer look, you realised that the lock didn’t resemble yours at all. Stepping back, you peered at the door. 307. Not 306- which was yours.
The floor design was insane and instead of the flats being lined up next to each other, they were all fronting one another in a haphazard fashion. Shaking your head, you took a step back and jammed the key into the lock of your own flat.
Jesus! You’re losing it, Y/N.
Shirking off the mild irritation, you cooked yourself a hot cup of instant noodles, put on your favourite TV show and slinked into your couch. Tonight’s episode was going to reveal who the murderer was and you had been dying for the suspense to finally end.
Just when the protagonist was about to point a gun at the killer in the shadows…
Oh my God... you’re incredible… aahhhh… ahhhh… ahhh…
You completely abandoned the TV and jumped up from the sofa. The fire hazard might still be worth it, but the thin walls so weren’t.
On tiptoes, you made your way to the east side wall, putting your ear against it. The noise wasn’t coming from upstairs. That was the only sure thing. But it was impossible to pinpoint the direction. The moans were reverberating through the walls. So loudly that there was no escaping it. Not in the bedroom, the kitchen or the living room sofa.
Of all of them, the east wall seemed like the culprit.
Right there… yeah…
307. Whoever it was in that room needed to calm the FUCK down. You grabbed your blanket and dragged it to the end of the living room, fuming. What ticked you off was how much this was ticking you off.
It’s sleep you told yourself. The lack of sleep was the only thing making you mad. The sex noises couldn’t be it. Because there were other noises- a dog barked somewhere occasionally, one of the rooms had a very loud stereo and someone was too much into baking- the beater was ceaseless. No, it had to be the timing and your wrecked sleep schedule.
Just like the nights before, you covered your ears and started reciting the story of the manuscript you had been reading at work. Eventually, sleep overtook you again.
The next morning you woke up in a crappier mood. If that was even possible.
Breathing down on anything and everything, you locked the door on your way out for work. Turning into the corridor, you ran into a wall of solid flesh.
In your groggy, sleep deprived state, the first thing you noticed was the way he smelled- leather and whiskey and something headier than that. It was divine. Next, you looked up into those eyes- stunning green, like sparkling water running over jade.
“Easy there, sweetheart!” The guy smirked.
You straightened yourself and took a step back. In front of you stood the most handsome guy you had ever seen. He was tall, with dirty blond hair, almost brown, and those stunning eyes.
“I’m so sorry,” you muttered, trying to collect your scattered thoughts. You had one of those dumb faces that gave away every damn thought crossing through your brain, so obviously you tried your best not to meet his gaze. Which was a shame really. That face demanded to be ogled at. Let alone the body that followed.
“No, no… I didn’t mind at all.”
You saw him reach out to the door of 307.
“You’re the one who lives there?” You asked through gritted teeth.
He raised an eyebrow. “Sure. You want a tour?”
Uhgg the best looking guy and he has to be such a douche!
Slipping past him, you stomped off towards the stairs. This too-good-looking-for-the-world asshat had been ruining your nights and in turn your life.
You knew it was wrong to be mad at him without, at least, talking about the issue first. A polite conversation explaining your situation wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world now, would it? But how does one start a conversation pertaining to that? After all, he wasn’t exactly the one making the noise. What would you say?
So, hey would you mind pleasuring your girlfriend a little less?
Or better. Ever heard of a ball gag?
Mere thought of it made you shudder.
The work day was spent trying to shove your neighbour's stupidly handsome face out of your mind. It didn’t help that your mother kept calling, repeatedly. You knew what she had to say. How you should have taken that bigger job at Royal’s publishing. How the writing career might never take off. How you really should get a boyfriend now, or you’ll be the only unmarried cousin in the family.
Usually you could entertain your mother with well-timed hmms and ahhs. Today wasn’t that day.
Bone-tired and absentminded, you jammed the key in the keyhole in the evening, only for it to get stuck again. You looked up at the door. 307.
Well, shit!
Putting both your hands into it, you yanked the key with all your might, just as the door opened. There he stood, with his crooked smirk, dimples digging in, wearing nothing but a thin cotton t-shirt and sweatpants that hung all too low on those hips.
“You don’t need to break into my house. I already offered a tour.” Of course, god gave him an irresistible voice. Cause at this point, why not?
“Sorry,” you muttered, looking anywhere but at him. “I keep getting the wrong door. This one’s mine.”
“Oh, so you’re the one in 306!” You could feel his smirk more than see it. “Looks like you’re having a good ol’ time in there.”
“Excuse me?”
The guy raised scratched the back of his neck, face apologetic. “You might… ya know… just keep the voice down in there?”
The audacity of this guy!
“Rich of you to ask anyone to keep it down!” You hissed. “Why don’t you tell your girlfriend to keep it low?”
With that, you shut your door in his surprised face. The worst part was, after bumping into him in the morning, your mind was producing distinct images of him in the bed, doing things to a woman. You had tried your best not to let them make a home in your head. But like a stickly tenant, they refused to evacuate. No wonder it was hard to look him in those brilliant, brilliant green eyes. The guy was hot! There was no denying that. You weren’t even willing to accept to yourself just how much time you had put into imagining him naked.
If anything, the denial mixed with your pre-existing irritation and sleep deprivation had you ready tonight.
So the moment the enamoured voice started begging, you hopped out of your chair. You had every intention of yelling yourself hoarse at the delectable resident next door, but the moment you stepped into the corridor, you came face to face with the very man.
He was- thankfully, completely clothed- looking a bit harassed, himself.
aahhhh… ahhhh… ahhh… right there...
Your head whipped up to the suspected direction of the voice, and back at him. “Wait, you aren’t… it’s not...?”
His face mirrored your expression of surprise and then he burst out laughing. “Looks like we’ve both been played.”
“Not intentionally,” you said, peering at the adjacent doors, mostly to not look at him. “Where do you think it’s coming from?”
He shot a glance at the door opposite to his. “If it’s not you, my best guess is that guy over there. I mean, if you ask me, Nick over there doesn’t look the type to make a woman that happy… but what do I know?”
“You shouldn’t make assumptions about people,” you said, taking a tentative step towards the said door.
Mr. hot guy smartpants laughed. “Oh, trust me. He’s the douchiest douche you’ll ever meet. Guy like that? Definitely selfish in bed.”
You frowned at him.
“He asks women in the street to smile more,” hot guy explained.
“Uhhgg… yeah you’re right. It’s definitely not him.”
Hot guy pointed his fingers at the rest of the doors. “That one’s rented by three guys. I don’t think it’s them. Mrs. Hendrickson over there works night shifts. I have no clue who lives in there,” he pointed to the last door, directly in front of you.
Goodness you’re amazing...
“Yes, lady, we already know!” He called out.
You couldn’t help the giggle that burst through your lips.
His eyes softened. “Dean Winchester,” he said, offering his hand.
“Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N,” you said, taking his. He had a firm grip. A very funny sensation gripped your stomach. Like a flutter. Nervousness?
“It’s great to meet you, Y/N.” He smirked. “I sure wish the circumstances were better.”
You bit your lip. “Listen, I’m sorry for the comment about your girlfriend. I was just mad about, you know... “
“Don’t worry about it. My non-existent girlfriend is very cool. She took no offense.”
You snorted.
“I was dead serious about the house tour,” He winked. “I can promise great coffee.”
“Sure, sometime soon.”
He shot a look at the door with the unknown occupants again. “I hate to leave this here, but I think we should get whatever kind of shuteye we can while they’re quiet over there, huh?”
“Oh, yeah!” You hurried back to your flat. “Night, Dean.”
He gave you his crooked grin again, just a hint of mischief. “Night, Y/N.”
You knew it wasn’t him now, and he was right about making the most of the quiet and fucking off to sleep, and yet, each time you closed your eyes, your mind decided to replay your imaginations for you. With a start, you sat up in your bed, a thought occurring to you like a hit on the head- If you had been thinking about him that way? Had he been imagining you as well?
Blood rushed to your face at the very idea. Though a tiny part of you begged for the answer- would it be such a bad thing if he had?
