Hi, I saw your Vinsmoke ships post and I was wondering if you could like explain the dynamics of the ships and why you ship them, because I haven’t seen most of these ships before (barring Zosan of course). I wanna understand the vision if that makes any sense lol

Well, the easiest to explain is Yonji X Sabo, for that one I blame this one user on twitter that started a thread fic of that ship with single dad Yonji and teacher Sabo, plus some Fanarts, I was immediately sold.

For the other ones I can blame only myself and my sister.

Let's start with Acechiji because I'm obsessed with them.

So I'm writing this fic called Curly Waves in which the Reiju somehow managed to save her siblings relationship and they escaped together after their mother's death and Sanji's imprisonment, however, they were separated by a storm, Sanji follows his canon story, Reiju ends up with Garp and the marines, Niji with Corazón and Law, Yonji I haven't revealed in the fic but I think it's pretty obvious and Ichiji ends up with White Beard.

The first interaction I wrote between Ace and Ichiji was Ichiji accidentally saving Ace when he goes save Luffy from Akainu and then scolding Ace, my brain literally went "It's free real state", I commented the idea to my lil sister and the friend that got us into One Piece and they went "yeah, why not" and I ran with it, and first I wrote their interactions and then I kinda started realising the appeal. I think I have actually explained this in some other past ask, there's STH about both of them being older brothers while being in complete opposite sides of the spectrum, Ace's calm manners but fiery temper and Ichiji's false cold manners and thug-ish being that is not as unfeeling as everyone thinks. Generally speaking, I think both can complement each other, funnily enough. And also I think they're super cute. And I could go on but there's other ships to discuss.

Honestly I'm not as set in stone about the other two, Reiju and Tashigi are cute and I think they would be able to help each other a lot, to grow and just in general, but I also like Reiju with Perona.

And for Niji, well, my sister went "I think he deserves a big boyfriend" and then went "Why not Yamato?" So I shrugged and thought about it for a bit and yeah, Niji deserves a big boyfriend with big boobs that can and will not only manhandle him but also crush him into smithereens. He's the one with the outwardly worse attitude and his partner needs to be able to beat him up at least a little bit. I do think he can be cute with Cosette but I think she deserves better Xd

I'm not sure how well I explained myself tbh, for the Acechiji part I'll probably copy paste what I had previously said into a reblog of this, probably will have to translate that cuz I think I explained it in Spanish and my brain ain't gonna be able to re-explain it right now, sadly

hello again :3 welcome to the world from 2024!! im doing backlogs of media reviews lol. well i was really busy. and then i was super busy playing umineko!! looking back at this month, it seems like i didnt read a whole lot this month, but then i forgot that ruzhui is literally 300 chapters long. so.. a couple of these i read uh quite a few months ago by now so the review might be a bit stale. however i had like 80% of this written for several weeks so theres only a couple! this will be posted on my neocities at some point

books:

ruzhui by please dont laugh: f/f. after a terrible breakup, college yun an is happy to leave her life behind for some TIME TRAVEL! but while disguising herself as a man to avoid discrimination, she gets looped into a matrilocal marriage with businesswoman lin buxian?! intended as a fluffy palate cleanser after pdl's previous work a clear and muddy loss of love, i think it still kinda ended up getting mired in politics two thirds of the way in, when a lot of us were here for the moments with miss malewife yun an and her powerhouse wife? on the other hand, its hard to stretch out fluff for an entire 300 chapters without contriviances. i also really enjoyed how it managed to balance like. idk. 'returning to the simple emotions of the past' with 'holy shit guys the past actually sucked ass lmfao'. its a pretty relaxing read, so id recommend checking it out if youre into f/f!

the devil comes courting by courtney milan: f/m romance. can romance bloom while trying to create the first telegraphic encoding for chinese...? sooo cute im a huge fan of courtney milan as always. surprisingly goes into some pretty heavy topics including like. forced assimilation via child stealing?????? i thought it was well handled though the ldr stuff and the way amelia grows as a person was soo nice

the marquis who mustnt by courtney milan: f/m romance. the son of a conman returns home for one final trick. meanwhile, naomi just wants to take her medic class. the two become engaged on false premises and of course, catch feelings. once again extremely cute im very charmed. also liked the pottery details :3 i think in every fake engagement the whole 'pretending to themselves they dont have feelings' is a little ridiculous so i liked that they just like. acknowledged it at the outset. i think its honestly more compelling to be like 'yes my feelings are sincere and true however X still outweighs '. loove a guy shackled by duty

wandering souls by cecile pin: follows anh and her two siblings, refugees of the vietnam war. ok honestly i dont remember a lot about this book :( sorry but i did like it! its a really fast read and made me really sad so id recommend. (DISCLAIMER: AMERICAN) i also feel like i dont read a lot of non-american diaspora books so thats pretty interesting as well. nice prose also :]

detransition baby by torrey peters: a trans woman who yearns for motherhood, her detransitioned ex-boyfriend, and his pregnant partner struggle to find a way to live--together, or apart? ok sorry this is another review written in january so its kinda weighted more negatively. i had a LOT of thoughts about this in november but i forgot most of them. this novel is a deep look into a very specific kind of queer subculture--a subculture which is both very white and very annoying. sorry. the characters feel like a vivid, true-to-life depiction of the poeple i try to avoid at my little liberal arts college. however, it ALSO feels like the kind of really good gossip that you love to hear secondhand. also, the author shoehorns in discussions of race in ways that are really jarring and also, kinda bad? i honestly really loved the inner voices of all the characters which is why it sucked when i got to suddenly read a copy-pasted twitter thread about intersectional oppression instead. (especially coming from the mouth of a cis wasian woman..?) it feels all the more tokenistic since we immediately go back to the inner struggles of ames and reese instead. ugh. however, it sparked some really interesting conversations with me and my friends. i also got to learn more about ah i guess transfem detransition? as opposed to transmasc detransition. they are very different! um but i guess id recommend?

comics/manga:

surviving romance: action/horror webtoon?? the woman living in the body of a romance novel character is determined to get her picture-perfect happy ever after-- at all costs. everything goes according to plan until the day zombies attack the school. chaerin is forced to bond with the faceless extras of her story, and find out what is rotting at the core of *love every day*. very solid writing!! i like how the author gradually introduces characters, and how the tension ratchets up as more people to care for becomes more people that can be lost. definitely goes into some orv-lite type themes, which i appreciated. i guess my only complaint is that despite the solid execution it didnt really ~wow~ me in any way... still worth checking out though :3

run away with me girl by battan: f/f romanceish? two high school lovers meet again after midori decided that their relationship was just a childish whim. but even though midori has decided shes straight (and is married with a kid on the way!), maki still has feelings for her. dude soooo cute the art style is not personally my thing but i felt like all of the characters were really grounded and the introspective parts were really interesting. some beautifully atmospheric parts! would recommend :3 witch hat atelier kitchen (reread) by shirahama kamome: a spinoff of witch hat atelier, where the two teachers qifrey and olrugio make food together after hours! gorgeous art as always, and some cute recipes too! i reread this since an official english translation came out lol. monotone blue: short furry m/m about apathetic, aloof cat hachi, who meets aoi--a shy transfer student who happens to be the only lizard in the whole school. pretty lighthearted for the most part, but also heavily implied a sexual assault scene?? or at least the vibes?? in a way that treated it far too lightly and left a bad taste in my mouth. possibly worth reading for the art, but idk :/ definitely falls into the romance trap of having a love interest go "ill save you from these bad guys!" for like a cheap plot device and then not really going into it

movies/tv:

parasite: class-focused comedic thriller? the kim family finds a way out of choking poverty by working for the extremely affluent park family. its almost too easy--until it isnt. man everyone says parasite is so good. AND IT IS!!! i cant believe i took so long to see this movie i got to see it with some friends over thanksgiving break and it was so good :] had me stressed for my fucking life sitting at the edge of my seat. has a lot of meat to bite into analysis-wise but is also just so crushing in many ways.. the ending stuck in my head for a long time. rewatching it this january was honestly more stressful in some ways haha

revolutionary girl utena: allegory-heavy commentary on shoujo and princess narratives and the nature of heroism and-- f/f. utena is a girl who aspires to be just like the prince of her dreams. she is somehow wrapped up into an engagement with anthy himemiya, who calls herself "the rose bride." ahhhh i still havent watched the last two episodes actually. people always say "utena is a fantastic show but PLEASE mind every single trigger warning" and its true! utena tackles some really heavy subjects in a way that is delicate, understated, and vicious. i watched a bunch of these episodes late at night in the computer lab and they honestly left me breathless. has so many layers of symbolism to dig through that it can honestly be overwhelming, but also very compelling just on the surface! watch utena. also watch this amv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THN3gYKYojs

the wonderful story of henry sugar: a netflix adaptation of one of roald dahls stories (within a story). it was cute :3 not a lot of sticking power lol but i think this is the first wes anderson production ive ever watched. very visually distinctive!

lethal company: cooperative horror game about trying to collect garbage in a dystopically capitalist world ft. proximity chat! dude this game is blowing tf up i tried playing it with neil but 1. we are huge pussies 2. its really only feasible with 3+ people

TILT by nanoray: anime breakcore is one of my truly guilty pleasures. i see the anime girl on the cover and cringe a little bit HOWEVER nanoray is a really good artist. the intro is so liquid... i think the album as a whole really just sweeps you up into a groove. some of my favorite tracks are into and DOGWALK2000 THE LONELIEST TIME by carly rae jepsen: i was so mean to carly rae jepsen in middle school. im so sorry miss jepsen i was just so tired of hearing call me maybe everywhere. im now a changed man. just a really well constructed pop album 👍admittedly not as iconic to me as emotion, but joshua tree and talking to yourself are my favorites atm SAYONARA WILD HEARTS OST: ive never played sayonara wildheart, but i think its a rhythm game about girls fighting each other on motorcycles? with bisexual lighting and tarot cards? but anyways this is a synth-y lush pop album thats super fun! it feels like it tells a story (probably bc it does) and it always makes me want to listen all the way through :3 my favorites are sayonara wild heart and their clair de lune remix

Fairy Tail Re-Read - Volume 1

Alright so I originally typed this on twitter but from here on out I’ll probably write it here first, or somethin’ like that. Sorry for my poor grammar I’m better at drawin funny pictures than I am at typing. “Officially started my third reread of Fairy Tail yesterday and finished volume 1 just a minute ago. Still feels so exciting reading this series, will never get tired of Chapter 2 and being introduced to the actual Fairy Tail Guild. Makarov's little speech in that chapter always feels magical (pun half-intended) to read, it's a really inspiring way of describing Magic in general. The Macao Chapter still gets me a little emotional, really wish we got to see more of him after this but it at least leaves a strong impression.”

“I also really like seeing Mashima's early art, I love his art in general but whenever I look back on early FT art and the entirety of Rave Master I just find myself super motivated to capture that feeling of raw passion dripping off of it. The Volume 1 cover is also just pleasant to look at. I'm excited to go into the Duke Everlue arc even if it is admittedly a pretty slow section of the story to get through when knowing everything that follows. I might do like, a continuous thread through the rest of my reading of the series. There probably won't be any images as not to clog up my media tab but this might be fun. We'll see though, no garauntees lol.” Okay so this part was from twitter but I also wanted to talk about the After Word Segment at the very end of the volume, it’s always interesting to hear about early versions of a series, and knowing that originally Fairy Tail was just gonna be about what is essentially a delivery company with a weird lil demon-horned version of Natsu as our protagonist is crazy. Like I can’t even imagine what that would have been like. Also still a fan of how despite Natsu being the more primary protagonist of the series we start with Lucy and have Natsu sorta just run into the plot by chance. I’m not personally a NaLu Shipper (nothing against the ship, I totally get why it’s a thing and have no problem with it being featured in the series as much as it is. Just isn’t my thing really) but these two interacting is always a treat, Natsu literally grabbing Lucy to run from the cops while taking to her to the Guild is still such a great moment of the series. So for future notice I have a feeling that if I do these FT Re-Read Posts, they’re gonna be here more often, and since it’s on Tumblr I’m less worried about posting images. So i’ll just make note of this now, I own the entirety of Fairy Tail physically, it was a really fun project/goal I had during the pandemic, and those volumes are what i’m using for my reread. That said I will be using images from unofficial manga reading sites in order to show them off properly for examples, mainly because I don’t know where to view it officially online, and even if I did those sites don’t really let me copy paste the images. Just want to be transparent about this, cause my brain told me too.

an essay in which i rant about the rise of skywalker

im not an overly critical person, especially when it comes to my faves, and i do understand the importance of constructive criticism. i generally prefer just liking the things that i like; which isn't to say ppl who are more critical than me aren't capable of liking things! like obviously ppl can like things however they wish to, whether that's with a critical eye or not. thats perfectly valid. my point is im simply not that kind of person. 

THAT BEING SAID... I love Star Wars, I love it a lot, it means so much to me and generally i dont really talk about its flaws and criticisms bc like i said im not super critical, but the fact of the matter is....the sequel trilogy absolutely sucked. it had potential but it didnt live up to it.  it had some good moments ofc, but after the first movie, it just kept getting worse. 

the rise of skywalker SPECIFICALLY ruined the sequel trilogy for me. i didnt mind the last jedi that much. but the LAST movie in the skywalker saga....oh man it fucking bombed.  

ive been playing the rise of skywalker chapter in the lego star wars the skywalker saga video game so thats why ive been thinking about TROS lately and how much it fucking sucked lol  

when i saw it in theaters (last time i was in the theater before the pandemic hit btw lol) i liked it but ive long since had time to think it over and yeah. it's not a good movie. and the fact that i’m saying that??? it really wasnt a good movie lol  

my biggest issue is palpatine returning somehow. i still dont get it. ive eventually accepted darth maul's return bc whatever it's star wars but palpatine somehow living this whole time is ????? tbh it felt like a cheap move on the writers part. like omfg why??? 

why the fuck would you bring back palpatine it's so fucking lazy like you couldnt think of a better villain??? ALSO THE FACT THAT REY IS RELATED TO PALPATINE IS SUCH COMPLETE BULLSHIT I FUCKING HATE IT LIKE PPL JOKED ABOUT HER BEING A PALPATINE AND IT ENDED UP BEING TRUE????? WTF

I loooooove the part 2 gang, and I've posted a bunch of hcs for them on Twitter a month ago! I'll copy and paste it all here

Warning, it's mostly Yoshida because my god I'm insane about him and I apologize

-Octopi are intelligent creatures so Yoshida's contract with the octopus devil is for him to get good grades because it doesnt want to work with a dumb human

-Yoshida ONLY drinks iced coffee, he can tolerate room temp but never hot

-Yoshida really likes cold food in general

-As a kid, Asa knew running while holding scissors is bad so she never did it because she knew she'd trip with them, but in grade school she probably tripped and got hurt anyway from a nearby classmate holding scissors

-Yoshida likes lemon lime sodas because I like lemon lime sodas no other reason it's just true

-Nayuta is a selective mute, but she and Denji click so well that he immediately knows if she needs anything even if she doesnt say or sign anything

-As reckless as he is sometimes, Denji is still very good at taking care of Nayuta, he learned a lot from Aki and from taking care of all the dogs. THIS I'm quite sure is basically canon, even just from the small glimpse of them together in ch97

-If CSM took place in modern times, Yoru is SHIT at video games and Asa is average (hi, not part of the original twt thread, I just remembered that csm doesn't take place THAT long ago and that Denji and Power literally bought a video game console with... Aki's money... So yeah the modern times part was a little dumb of me, but it still applies to some of the hcs ahead)

-Denji spams buttons in fighting games and Yoshida has combos memorized, but somehow he still loses to Denji sometimes

-Yuko is better than all of them and is probably a speedrunning champion

-If all four (five w yoru) of them played games together, Denji and Asa would be at each other's throats while Yoshida and Yuko silently keep playing and win in the end

-Yoru:"I WANT TO KEEP PLAYING!"

Asa:"YORU IT'S BEEN HOURS, IT'S MY TURN TO PLAY ALREADY"

-Remember the doom & acnh thing back then? Yeah Yoru is the one buying acnh and Yuko is the one buying doom

That's the original thread! Here's a couple more hcs I have though, mostly just lgbtq hcs:

-Yuko is nonbinary (in the same way she can't understand people, she can't understand gender roles and all that dumb shit cishets push)

-Related to that last part, Yuko is autistic! It was genuinely my first thought when I read the "I don't understand people" line in 105, I love her so dearly (also I'm also a nonbinary autistic so I'm projecting a little)

-Yoshida is gay and grey aromantic (grayromantic?? Forgot the term) (Also projecting except I'm bi instead of gay, u can tell I love projecting onto my scrimblos)

-Yukoasa are bi4les! Asa is bi but is sapphic leaning after the interaction that is ch104 JSJSKFJDJ she really thought man, men aren't worth it and just visited yuko

-Asa is transfem!! Idk I just saw the flashbacks she had and how she had short hair at one point and I was like hmm and my transfem moots agreed (That post blew up a little actually and some people genuinely thought I was weird or that I was stereotyping cause of the short hair, so I don't talk about this hc that often. I genuinely would've headcanoned her as transfem before I even saw the short hair though, I love hitting csm characters with the transification beam.)

-Speaking of, Yoshida is transmasc! He's a reincarnation of Togata from Fire Punch that was able to successfully transition (socially at least), and he binds! This is one of my fav hcs cause god I love Togata and Yoshida's eerieness in part 1 is really EXTREMELY similar to Togata, and they both have really similar features like black eyes and hair, the fringe between their eyes, the mole under their lip, AND THE WAY THEY SMILE??? I genuinely no joke think Yoshida was meant to be a nod to Togata back when Fujimoto drew him in part 1

-Back to the videogames thing, Asa would be 1st in Mario Kart then fuck up last minute right before she reaches the finish line, and she ends up in last place. My girl trips at the worst time even in video games 💀

My Drunken Dead Yuta Theory 🍾🤪

(This is a theory that I made like… the day after chapter 181 of the manga was released. I originally put in my jjk fic “TSUNAMI”, but decided to copy-paste it here because why not.)

Just to clarify: I WAS NOT COMPLETELY DRUNK WHEN I THOUGHT OF THIS! I was drinking (not that much ofc) and barbecuing with my friends when I had an epiphany: Yuta is possibly Yuji’s foil and therefore, he might die because of it.

(Btw, I literally came to this conclusion when I was pulling at the aluminum foil for the barbecue. Lol, get it, foil? Foil??? no??? ok bye 🥲)

EDIT: In my wattpad/quotev rant, I completely forgot to explain what a foil is, whoops. A literary foil is basically a character that contrasts another character.

Ex: Nanami and Mei Mei. Nanami cares a lot about children and the safety of others and returned to the jujutsu world because he knew he was making a positive impact on ppl. Meanwhile Mei Mei is only concerned about money and doesn’t care much for anyone else’s life but her own. She exploits everyone including her own brother (a child) and pretty much used him as a shield against a powerful curse. They’re opposites of each other.

You can find a more detailed analysis about these two characters being foils over at reddit. Can’t put the link in cuz tumblr’s a meanie about links. 

LEMME EXPLAIN WHAT I MEAN.

First off, look at this Twitter thread I found about jjk chapter 181:

Before Gege created Yuji, Yuta was his original main character. He was created during a time where main characters of shounen animes/mangas all started out super strong or OP—that’s why Yuta was so powerful back in Volume 0 because that was usually how creators made their MCs back then.

Around the time Yuji was created, there was a shift in interests within the shounen genre; people began to find MCs who quickly became OP boring, they became more fond of more developed characters instead. Main characters, like Yuji, had more realistic progress in their abilities rather than starting out special and OP.

And you know another thing that was super common back in the day? Shounens had a thing for using the Power of Friendship and Talk-no-Jutsu to unrealistically settle conflicts. With the Power of Friendship and Talk-no-Jutsu, protagonists and their friends easily defeated the villains and all was good! 🤗

That’s not what Gege’s doing here, as the Twitter thread above had already explained.

In JJK, he’s showing us that corruption (the jujutsu society as a whole) and selfishness (Sukuna, Mei Mei, Zenins, etc) will always win over selflessness and all things good and holy. He’s showing us that being good can be a weakness, it can get you or other people killed, so it’s better to only care about yourself.

Gojo tried to save people in the train station and got trapped. Nanami prioritized the safety of the kids and got killed for it. Meanwhile, you’ve got fucked up characters like Mei Mei (who I think is Nanami’s foil) who gets to live and thrive in her selfishness (after Nanami died, she’s later seen in Malaysia—you know, the place Nanami wanted to visit the most?—because she ran away from Shibuya to save her ass).

I think the reason why Gege brought Yuta back was so he could be Yuji’s opposite. Yuji’s going down a dark path after what happened in Shibuya and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up prioritizing his life and becoming more selfish.

Then we got Yuta who refuses to believe that you should fight for yourself and chooses to fight for his friends and loved ones. During his fight with Uro, he was constantly trying to Talk-no-Justu her into believing in the ✨Power of Friendship✨ and whatnot 💀💀💀

Girl was literally trying to tell him that that shit won’t work in the real world, but he was like “how dare you insult the Power of Friendship! 😡 *proceeds to beat her up*” BOY PLEASE JUST LET HER SPEAK OMFG 😩

It’s clear to me that Yuta is supposed to represent the stereotypical shounen MC whereas Yuji represents a newer, darker concept of an MC. And we’ve seen how many times Gege’s shown us that the stereotypical shounen shit is unrealistic and is NOT gonna happen in his manga. Because of this, I think that he might have Yuta actually try to fight one of the Big Bads (Kenjaku or maybe Sukuna) and die terribly as a result of it. That would be a VERY obvious message to the readers that the Power of Friendship and Talk-no-Jutsu ain’t gonna work in the world of JJK.

EDIT: omg didn’t Yuta say he was gonna try and gain 400 points and then fight Kenjaku so Gojo wouldn’t have to??? BOY YOU BETTER SIT YOUR ASS DOWN

ENG server shutting down soon due to financial difficulties at LIBER/CYBIRD in the past two years (covid-19 related, etc.). according to a rather in depth reddit comment that had links to LIBER's publicly available financial reports + some financial reports from LIBER's parent company, Aeria, in english, covid-19 really hit LIBER hard since they had to cancel many money making events, from pop-up shops for the typical anime merch trinkets (keychains, plushes, pins, etc.) to the huge in-person events (voice actor meetups, the stage plays of MANKAI LIVE, etc.). due to shrinking player base on the ENG server + major loss of profits on both JPN and ENG servers, LIBER had to choose one or the other and they chose the JPN one, which i totally understand since it's way bigger there and the JPN fanbase will continue to give the franchise money more often. also, another person found a financial report/estimate from the google play store or something, and A3! ENG only made ~$20K to ~$10K in the past few months, which i guess is not enough to keep a server and localization company afloat. 

i got pretty attached to the characters and it was a great game to help get by during college. and honestly, while i am very sad about this, again, i understand why LIBER did this, looking at their financial report from 2020. I would LIBER save the entire franchise rather than shut all the servers down, making us all unable to see our favorite actors ever again, even if it means that we ENG fans will have to go thru the extra steps of finding/reading fan translations, wikis, etc., to read any further stories from where A3! ENG left off. still, A3! ENG's localization was something special. i'm saying this as a TKRB JPN player who read the wiki for all the character voice lines and then had to see the official TKRB ENG localization make Yamabushi Kunihiro a rapper for some reason? lol. it was....weird.... meanwhile, all the memes and slang in A3! ENG didn't seem out of place and all fit their personalities because 3/4 of the troupes were all high school to college age and 3 of them were ~Gamers~. Out of all the gachas i've played, i feel like the only other F2P gacha game that had this incredibly smooth, all cultural jokes/puns translated in a way that still makes sense/fits the character/doesn't require a galaxy brain and some TL note to understand, is probably dragalia lost and that's only because it has frickin Nintendo localizing/publishing it globally for CyGames. Nintendo. i'll eventually read the fan translations of A3!'s Act 3 on the wiki, but it won't be the same without Kazunari's super high-energy influencer slang of "'whoa fam! that's totes 'blammable, gotta take a pic!" or Itaru's gremlin Gamer speak of "lol get rekt noobs" or Tsuzuru's tired dying breath of "that ain't it chief." the appropriate slang and relatable meme speak of the localization really helped humanize these characters as people of their respective ages, rather than just a typical formal speak or some directly translated JPN slang -> ENG that turns out super awkward that can be found in bad localizations.

going back to the reddit comment too, the death of A3! ENG servers could have bad repercussions in the future for other joseimuke games. josei, if you for some reason have been in the anime fandom but still don't know this term, is basically the genre of stories/video games/media/etc aimed at women. it's the mature adult counterpart to seinen, media aimed at adult men. basically shoujo/shonen = elementary/middle school/high school aimed while josei/seinen = high school/college/adult aimed if that helps. Joseimuke is a part of josei that is not specifically romance. while some josei/joseimuke can overlap with otome, aka female aimed dating sims/romance media, they have many things about them that make these all separate genres. one of the official A3! ENG translators and a known fan translator of another joseimuke gacha, Mahou Yaku/Wizard’s Promise, minami, goes more in depth with this in a twitter thread. 

A3! was an actor raising game, and a big part of it was found family and relationships that were platonic. yet it got advertised as an otome, which has more connotations with dating sims and brings to mind other shoujo/otome games and anime where the cast is all high schoolers and the setting is most often in a high school. but, other than some characters making flirty jokes or implied to have crushes on Izumi/player character, many character relationships with Izumi are platonic and not romantic at all. Spring Troupe in the game also jokingly calls themself a family. the entire Mankai Company is basically found family. plus, since the game actually has time passing in story and the characters age with each year, half of the characters aren’t even in high school anymore. a large majority of them are in college or are graduated by now, with only a few still in high school. i’m not surprised if a reason that some people left the game was due to feeling bored with the slice of life/not romantic story, feeling that they were lied to about it being an otome, which was falsely advertised since it is a game meant for the older teens/adults demographic of josei/joseimuke.

i’m worried that other japanese companies will look at this shut down as a “josei/joseimuke doesn’t work well in the west�� and never localize other josei/joseimuke gacha games like Mahou Yaku, EnStars, Twisted Wonderland, Helios, etc.

while i like otome and shoujo, i, as a 23/soon to be 24 year old college graduate and now tax paying adult, want more stories that have more mature themes and characters that are more my age so i don’t have to feel awkward when i’m playing some dating sim and i, a literal 23 year old adult, and trying to woo a 16 year old. it’s...a little awkward to say the least. i would gladly welcome more mature media that is categorized as josei/joseimuke.

sorry if this is all over the place, but overall im just sad that A3! ENG is shutting down. i don’t know if i’ll join the JPN server yet. i’m def going to read the Act 3 story via fan translators on the wiki, but A3! gameplay was...boring lmao. as much as i love A3!, im sure that the constant event grind/burnout and boring rng gameplay turned people off too and i dont blame them. i felt the burnout bad since i participated in basically every event since day 1. it. is. rough. i’m not joining the hellish thunderdome that is the JPN server and im not ranking anymore as a F2P player lmao. literally had to play almost every waking free moment to get into the 30%-20% bracket as a F2P person and i never got to top 20%-10%, much less top 1% lmao. i’m don’t whale enough lol. 

i feel like i should probably just. crack open my genki 2 textbook and uhhh totally legal pdf copy of tobira. so i can just. get the JPN version of games in the first place so i don’t have to worry about getting shafted since overseas fans are often considered expendable. 

i wish that, when any games that are online end, gacha or mmo or anything, anything online, companies will let fans archive things. or like. release a book that is just the story text or something. like. CYBIRD is letting us still technically play the game and have the story and all, but what if they eventually later shut everything down? why not just release a pdf/ebook that’s just the text of the eng localization for some money? i’d buy it. for nostalgia and rereads and all and also archiving purposes. i think i’ll try to help with any english localization archive projects if i can so that the hilarious and incredible localization that was a work of love from the translation team doesn’t just disappear forever.

Your Name: Emma Characters: Phineas Flynn, Tiana Truitt, Aquata Triton, Henry Charming, Evelyn Deavor Pick one of your characters and talk about their growth (we recommend choosing an older character, but it’s up to you!) What about their story has surprised you? What are you proud of? How have they changed from their original inception to now? I’m going to talk about Phineas because I’ve had him for the longest and I think he’s the one I’ve been able to spend the most time developing. So basically something I struggled with when I first picked up Phineas was how he deals with people he doesn’t like, because in the show I don’t think he really dislikes anyone. And I feel like this drama with Tony recently has finally helped me crack what Phineas’s deal is when it comes to conflict-- he doesn’t really feel down about it unless he feels like his character is being questioned, and that’s why with Wilbur he’s mostly like whatever while with Tony and Lock (in the past) Phineas has gotten petty and vindictive-- he doesn’t like the role he’s found himself in and he takes that personally if that makes sense. (Also Phineas just way prioritizes his job with Cornelius over getting back at Wilbur, even if he’ll make the occasional jab at Wilbur in Among Us or on Twitter). So that’s been really cool to explore. And I think he’s also gotten a little less finance-bro-y than I originally intended, but I think that side of him will definitely come out once he graduates and goes to uni. I think the thing I’m most proud of with him is kind of maintaining that balance between being totally likeable and fun while also pretty infuriating and obtuse, like he’s a sweet and well-meaning person who’s also really annoying and idk I think I do that balance well.

Pick another character (or the same character if you only have one) and talk a little about where you WANT them to go. What are your plans for them going into the new year? I’m really excited to see where Tiana goes! Ever since I picked her up, I’ve been focused on this goal of getting the restaurant to happen and now that I’ve done that, there are a lot of possibilities. I want to see Tiana burn out from the stress a little bit-- maybe take on more than she can handle because a big part of her arc has been learning to accept help and collaborate with people, and I got to do that a lot with planning Tiana’s Place, but I would also really like to see that continue because those tendencies don’t really go away. I also want LOVE for Tiana even though I keep saying she doesn’t have time for it-- I want her to get a stupid crush that distracts her from work lol I think it could be really fun. And I’m also really excited to keep developing all her friendships, I love all of her Swynlake native connections and PRINCESS HOUSE and other small business owners and now that she really feels like she has put down roots with her restaurant, I want to see her branching out more.

Pick a thread or a plot that you’re proud of and talk about why you loved it. In terms of your own writing, identify 1-3 strengths and talk about why you think it’s one of your strengths. Ok sorry to keep talking about Tiana I promise I have other characters but I’m really proud of all of the different characters I incorporated into the Tiana’s Place opening. My goal was to make a real community effort to show that, no matter how much she wanted to do it on her own, she still has a whole group of people supporting her and who have a stake in it-- from Nuka and Ratigan in the beginning with the financial stuff to Clara and Toulouse and Laszlo with the music/art to Jun and Al for business advice to all the people who donated to the raffle. And the raffle was so fun and I hope people use that for plots!!

I also gotta shout out one more: writing the pirates AU Phineas and Ferb stuff was so much fun and really pushed me as a writer I think. I was a little uneasy going into pirates because action/movement/fights are not my strong suit and I knew there would be a lot of that. But the generated stuff was really helpful in kickstarting some ideas and Sid was so great to work with on that. I thought we got really creative and personally I had so much fun and I hope other people did too. 

In terms of strengths for my writing-- I think I’m good with flaws? Like even characters who are really sweet and nice (I’m looking at you Henry) I think I try to show the different sides of them and explore how you can be both really well-meaning and really misguided at the same time. And I think that’s good because it has the potential to cause conflict and drive forward more plots where there’s no clear ~bad guy~ just flawed people trying their best and that’s the most interesting stuff to me. Of course I also love big bads! I think macro plots are really important. I think my niche though is those petty little conflicts and I think I do a good job with them. 

I’m adding another too because you know what why not. I think I've gotten pretty creative recently?? Like I’ve done some really weird fun stuff this year-- Henry and Jake’s acapella audition is up there as one of my favorite threads, and I’m really excited about Tiana and Aurora’s fake date and Greg and Q doing Santa’s Workshop and I think Henry’s first open was one of my favorite opens I’ve done. Idk I think one of my insecurities about RP has always been that I worry I don’t bring enough ideas to the table with plotting and I think I’m getting better at letting my brain dream up weird cool stuff.

In terms of your own writing, identify 1-3 areas of improvement.

Like I said, plotting is still something I struggle with-- I spent the majority of my early RP experience in a very gif-chat-heavy open-heavy fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants rp, so coming to BDRP even back during round 1 in 2017, plotting was a big surprise to me. And this is also something that I struggle with in my non-RP writing-- story arc and structure is something I have always wanted to improve. But I think I’m getting better at fleshing out ideas and not putting too much pressure on myself. And I think I’m also getting better at stepping out of my comfort zone and messaging people I don’t write with as often which is important because literally everyone here is so fun and talented! So I want to keep doing that. I know I can be a little shy sometimes (this sounds SO weird I never shut up lol but it’s how I feel) and I don’t want that to hold me back

In terms of actual writing stuff, I’d like to expand my vocabulary a bit more? I think I use certain words and phrasing so often that it annoys me and maybe it annoys no one else and my writing will be worse if I try to throw in unnecessary words but yeah. I think reading more will help with that. And in general I just really want to get better at thinking stuff through and building story arcs. 

Pick one of your plots, or even just a character, and come up with a list of 3-5 “mentor texts” where you can look for inspiration or research, then write a short (2-4 sentences) why you picked those texts. (They don’t have to be books, either!)

Ev is the one I feel like I need to do the most development on so here goes!

1. Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, specifically the character Nora

Messy nerd girls! Messy nerd girls! Please recommend me more things with messy nerd girls! Nora is basically Ev’s exterior, the person people know her as. She’s chaotic and fun and relatable, and also kind of a genius.

2. Macbeth, specifically the character Lady Macbeth

This is one I wanna dive into! I’ve seen a heavily abridged version of Macbeth and that’s about it but I have a copy sitting on my desk. I love a villain who likes to stay behind the scenes and pull the strings, and while Ev is in this for “moral reasons” (lol) she’s also in this for #power. I’m not used to playing manipulative villains-- I’m usually more of a henchperson type deal, so the ultimate 4-D chess gal would be some good inspo.

3. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, specifically Professor Quirrell.

Ok I am really sorry to bring Harry Potter into this but I think something that’s important about Ev is that one of the things distracting from her villainy is her vague air of incompetency. We know she’s very smart and she has the whole nutty-professor thing going, but she’s kind of a mess and I want characters to underestimate her. I think Quirrell’s vibe of being nervous about everything is similar to Ev’s messy exterior and I would love a good end-of-the-book villain reveal.  And now, a wishlist! Jot down a few themes or stories or genres etc that you want to maybe pursue in the upcoming year! (i.e. a good ol’ fashion forbidden romance, maybe you want to dig deep into racial identity etc) This doesn’t have to necessarily be attached to any characters or stories you have now– it’s just meant to help you see for yourself what kind of stories call to your heart.

Oooh so many things. Generally more romance-- I always hesitate a little with shipping IDK WHY maybe it’s insecurity about jumping into what always feels like a bit plot to me lol. But I wanna take that plunge more-- especially with Tiana! But I’m pretty much open to stuff with anyone, especially really silly rom-com type stuff. I also think that my shipping niche is super complicated stuff with villains (the irony and craziness of the Henleigh situation is so FASCINATING and FUN and I want MORE OF THAT) so just saying a I’m-flirting-with-you-because-you’re-a-good-ally-to-have-on-my-side-oh-no-I’m-actually-falling-for-you thing with Ev could be really fun (LISTEN her entire tag is just shipping content. I scroll through so much of it so of course it gave me some ideas)

I’m also REALLY jazzed about the uni stuff going on right now. Like I’ve said before, I think college is a really interesting place and so much weird shit happens there because you have all these 18-22 year olds living in close quarters and they come up with weird ways to entertain themselves. The secret santa/RA stuff has me loling every day and I just love stuff like that. Like, I’d love to have shenanigans like people sneaking into dorms and staying up until 3 am in the library and all that stuff. I just love that stuff.

Also I am really trying to do big bad stuff with Ev!! As I have mentioned... plotting and story arcs are a major thing I’m trying to work on, so it’s a lot to think about, but I would really just love to do all kinds of things-- I’d love to have her enable small-time villains, or manipulate people who are easily swayed, or to trick people. It’s a new area for me, but it’s something I’m excited about and I want to challenge myself.

OPTIONAL: Why do you RP?

Because I literally can’t stop apparently lol. No but the thing I love about RP is getting to collaborate on a story and getting surprised by people, getting to geek out about something that I can also participate in, and having NO RULES. I think there’s something really special about having an interest that I can’t monetize or market, that I can do for pure fun out of my love of creating and writing. And I love having a community of people on the ride with me. It’s so much fun and I’m so grateful for you guys!

I've seen several posts lately talking about what "real" intrusive thoughts are and claiming that there's no such thing as "mild" intrusive thoughts (eat a leaf, throw your phone, etc) and as someone who has OCD and severe intrusive thoughts, I have a lot of problems with posts like those. I’m gonna copy and paste a thread I posted on Twitter about the subject:

intrusive thoughts (like most symptoms of mental illness) are pretty much on a spectrum. Sometimes mine are actually generally harmless things like throwing my phone out the car window or just yelling in a crowd and sometimes they’re terrifying/violent/evil.

imo posts that deny the existence of "mild" intrusive thoughts prevent people from seeking help bc they don’t think their symptoms are severe enough. I didn’t develop OCD until I was an adult, and until my mental health completely fell apart my intrusive thoughts were manageable and mild but I didn’t get help so they got worse and worse until they terrified me and gave me panic attacks. I still get intrusive thoughts- some of them horrifying and some of them mild- but now that my mental health is under control they’re generally less severe and are a lot easier to deal with.

it’s also worth noting that literally anybody can experience intrusive thoughts, not just people with OCD or PTSD etc. The difference between an nt person and a mentally ill/nd person’s experience is in severity, frequency, and their ability to cope with them. They can also be a warning sign for an upcoming/developing issue like dementia/a psychotic break/ocd. If you have intrusive thoughts often and you obsess over them, even if they seem “mild” it’s worth keeping an eye on and getting help if they increase in severity.

OCD can develop at any point in your life (though it typically appears by young adulthood) and people who develop OCD in early childhood are relatively rare. (Also worth knowing that OCD also comes in different subtypes, some of which don’t fit the stereotype we see in media involving cleaning etc)

I understand where people who make those posts are coming from but I just really don’t think these kinds of posts are helpful to mentally ill/ND people.

At the end of the day, mental disorders are a collection of symptoms occuring in a predictable, frequent pattern. If you have enough of these symptoms and they happen chronically then you will be categorized as having a disorder/illness. However, people who don’t meet the minimum criteria/threshold can still experience these symptoms. Keep that in mind!

side note: I think the reason why we tend to see so many people sharing their funny/mild intrusive thoughts rather than the more severe ones is bc like. The severe ones are so horrible you don’t want to share them publicly but joking about the sillier ones might be a way to cope. personally, any detailed discussion of my awful/dangerous intrusive thoughts will be had privately between my therapist and I in a safe setting where I can get immediate support. But sometimes I will joke about how weird it is that my brain wants me to yell “fuck” in the middle of class and that doesn’t mean I’m minimizing my own mental illness or faking having OCD/intrusive thoughts lol.

DAY 1 SHENANIGANS:

- so far the booth has been a fun experience!!  I sold a few prints stickers and a shirt!!  and even when people didn’t buy anything it was still great talking to people esp this family with little kids who were SO excited to hear about me meeting ajj 

- LOTS OF ACTORS CAME BY OUR BOOTH TOO some for just a few seconds but they said they’d come back the rest of the weekend.  special mention goes to Richard Mystic Force who did that cute cheesy YOU DREW THIS?????  THAT’S AMAZING spiel i love him so much

- APPARENTLY CARLA RITA REPULSA CAME BY THE BOOTH AND LOVED MY RITA/ZEDD PRINT WHILE I HAD STEPPED OUT I WAS SO UPSET so I gotta take her a print tomorrow

- DWAYNE MERCURY RANGER IS SO SWEET AND MY NEW BEST FRIEND he remembered me from pmc and we just talked about everything from hugh jackman to what programs I used to draw.  He’s so wig

- I went to see nic mystic force yellow and I mentioned I hadn’t eaten all afternoon and he was like “oh me neither do you want something??” and just. pulled a giant bag of starbursts out from under his table and handed it to me

- MELODY ASTRONEMA IS SOOOO NICE AND SWEET SHE TOLD US SHE LOVED US INSTANTLY AFTER WE INTRODUCED OURSELVES!!!!!!  also her favorite astronema wig was the blue one just for trivia reasons.  and she agreed with me that the wildcat zord looked like a sheep

- also someone pulled the fire alarm so we had to evacuate for like fifteen minutes.  our first thought was SAVE THE TOYS

DAY 2 SHENANIGANS:

- so the day started out awesome when aljin jungle fury stopped by our booth before the crowds started!!!  his fiancé got one of my alpha shirts WHICH SHE WORE THE REST OF THE DAY I WAS DYINGGGGG

- ALSO he stopped by later and he had a little box of krispy kreme donuts so of course I was like “lol power rangers always get krispy kreme” and he was like “oh do you want one?????” So that’s the story of how I got a donut from Theo Martin.

- I MET CARLA PEREZ RITA REPULSA!!!!!!  I GAVE HER A PRINT AND SHE LOVED IT.  she wanted a shirt too but I didn’t have any her size :c so she told me to dm her once my store was ready!!  I’M GONNA SLIDE INTO RITA REPULSA’S DMS

- I asked her about her scenes with zedd and she said she always had a great time with the suit actor!!  she’s been wanting to get him to come to a con but he’s kinda ghosted which is kinda a recurring thing whenever we talk to actors about casts

- speaking of talking about casts we chatted with Dwayne and apparently he’s still on great terms with the overdrive girls but hasn’t heard from the boys in years.  which sucks bc idt we’ll ever get a full overdrive reunion BUT HEY we can hold out hope for girls coming back

- WE’RE MAKING FRIENDS WITH SO MANY CAST MEMBERS Richard Mystic Force passed by when we were packing up and he was like “ARE YOU OFF???” and checked that we would be there tomorrow I love him

- BUT YEAH tbh I didn’t go around to cast members too much today, but I sold lots of stuff!!!!!!  it’s such a great feeling that people like my stuff enough to buy it dhhdhd

- OH ALSO we saw Glenn Ninja Storm and I asked about the visor-opening thing - apparently that wasn’t an irl thing, they wore a closed helmet, then stopped the filming and switched to an open helmet, and the opening effect was added in post.  just fun trivia

- we talked a lot about his little role in swamp thing!!!!!  mostly about how his characters are always dying specifically dying in water.  he’s like it’s awful bc his mom watches everything he’s in and it’s like NOOOOOO

- also at some point Walter Jones came over and he and RJ had a moment and he was like “sorry for taking your time!!” like king no Walter Jones can interrupt me any time he wants thank you sir

- then we spent literally ALL OF OUR TIME WITH WILL NINJA STEEL IT WAS SO GOOD we had a big group hug at the end and his biceps were literally crushing my neck.  I’m sorry this is gonna sound like a kink but thank you king

- nic mystic force yellow randomly stopped by the booth and we started talking about my nick/fire heart print.  apparently everyone on the cast HATED saying fire heart bc saying it in an American accent was just so weird and different compared to saying it in a kiwi accent

- Richard mystic force was leaving until he made eye contact with me across the center and walked all the way to us to say bye.  somehow I became bffs with nic and richard?? well nic is chip solidarity at least.  richard is just really really hot

Let's talk about Kyo's media blackout.

It is with a slight reluctance that I post this. It's not wise to mention Tanuki online nor share what they talk about within the overseas fandom for a multiple of reasons. 

1. I don't want them to get angry at me

2. I don't want the overseas fandom to flip out and judge the Japanese fandom

3. I just want everyone to be chill and happy and flowers

But I've seen a lot of people freaking out, a lot of random theories floating around and people worrying so I wanted to post this theory and open it for discussion. 

Of course this isn't fact. It's pure speculation. But given the timeframe, PERSONALLY I feel like this may have had something to do with Kyo decision. 

So I post this with two DISCLAIMERs. 

1. As mentioned this is not in any way fact. There is no proof that Kyo does or doesn't look at Tank. I simply find it interesting the sequence of events, the timing of the media blackout and I am only translating this for those who are interested. I hope this doesn't cause any huge arguments or any bad blood. It's simple here to discuss and consider.

2. Please do not judge the whole fandom based on Tank. Just like any forum, any comment section on the world wide web; there will be people who leave negative feed back. It is a tiny portion of people and not a reflection of the Japanese fandom as a whole. Judging them based on what they said would be like someone looking at negative comments or sarcastic jokes on Tumblr and judging the English speaking fandom. That's not to say what they post is okay, but it's just dumb shit posting and shouldn't be taken to heart.

Okay, so I contemplated posting screenshots and translating what happened immediately after Kyo changed his profile picture up to when he deleted everything but as I said I don't want to be taken out by angry tank users so I'm just gonna translate a selection of posts. 

These posts are taken from the Meg thread (remember the girl linking arms with him at a concert? That's Meg.) which to be honest is a shit show. It was a thread born from those notorious pics and for over a year now has remained a place where people post rumours, shit talk, complain and just make shit up a lot of the time. So please, AGAIN, bare that in mind. It is a place of negativity born from a scandal that shocked a lot of the fandom. Aint nothing nice ever gonna be said there. Periodt. In reality a lot of the people who post there are still fans of Kyo. I think they're just still a little hurt by the way it came to light about Meg. 

After Kyo posted his new picture I checked tank before going to bed because I was curious about what their reactions would be and everyone had exploded. During the 7 hours I was asleep Kyo deleted everything and left the internet forever so tbh given the fact he was probably bored in a hotel in Fukuoka, just did a radio show, probs wanted to see peoples reaction, etc I personally, believe he was on Tank. This is a running theme in the thread itself and people often say he actively browses it (this is not a major thing, a lot of guys in bands browse tank same as celebs browse twitter. Why Kyo would look at the meg thread in particular? idk. ) 

SO TLDR 

Yesterday around 7pm the thread suddenly changed to mixed reactions after Kyo changed his Twitter pic. 

"His new twitter icon had me shook lol" 

"I hope he changes his instagram one too" 

"Idk I don't like how quickly he's become some kind of social media old fogey" 

"Kyo's turned into a social media monster too" (*edit; my bad Yuchi is beer monster, Shinya is social media monster lol)

"It's kinda cheap" 

"I get you, it's like he's lost his values" (probably because Kyo has always made big deal about how much of himself he shares) 

 It continued like that for a while with people more or less saying the same thing until he posts about leaving social media.

"He just suddenly said he's not gonna do social media anymore" 

"lol after he went to all the effort of changing his profile picture" 

"I'm shook" 

"annoying 40 year old nut job" 

"Bet you he came on here"  

"Do you normally change you icon then quit" 

"Join Kyo online" 

"idg why even though Kyo's had so many haters since he first started twitter he's suddenly affected by it??" 

"I still think he's cute even when he's sulking like this lol" 

"I knew he was looking at Tanuki"

"I don't get why he's suddenly deleting it after all this time?? It's like what is this old man on about?" 

"It's lame how he's making such a big deal of out saying he's quitting" 

(lots of people agreed with this post saying that he's acting childish)

"I wonder what happened? Like everything seemed fine recently. I mean we'll never know but like I'm sure he has a lot going on.."

The random comments and mixed reactions continued for all of Friday.  One of the main points that stuck out after the initial reactions was how people began to become suspicious that this was merely a tactic to get people to join Kyo online with people claiming this was typical of business man kyo,  that it was about that time of year where they usually begin to advertise and promote in order to get new members. 

So, allow me to play devils advocate for a second. As someone who is a member of Kyo online I have to admit since he started posting more and more online (compared to hardly ever on Kyo online), the membership has become more or less invalid. In the past it was worth the money for the videos and pictures that as fans we rarely saw. But if he's going to post them online then it raises the question (tickets to concerts aside) is there any point in being a member if you can just get the content for free?  I'd imagine that this plays some kind of role in why the reactions are often negative. Members of Kyo online have suddenly gone from having something exclusive that was only for them, to simply being a part of something anyone can access. 

Another point someone brought up is that whilst it's acceptable for Kyo to be upset. It is very, very childish and the timing is selfish.  Sukekiyo literally made their instagram days ago and suddenly Kyo states how he isn't going to post online anymore. This act instantly casts a negative feel on Sukekiyo's insta. It almost gives a vibe that any picture Kyo is in might be "against his will". Kyo is not new to criticism. He's been in this game for 20 plus years. Everyone who is in the Indies scene knows about Tank. Every fan, every bandmen, knows it's a bad place filled with mostly shit posting and rumours and doesn't represent fans a whole. 

The meg thread is simply fans flogging a dead horse, posting any poor Japanese girl with a straight fringe and some tattoos, anyone who looks even a little like Meg and saying she MUST be a groupie of Kyo. Which begs the question why would Kyo go there? Why would he look at that? Why would he want to subject himself to that kind of thing and then punish the majority for some dumb comments a few bored fans made? What was he expecting by going there?

Of course there is no proof Kyo lurks. But the reality is he probably does, I mean he's only human, he' s bound to be curious about fans reactions for Madara, etc and where else to get honestly reactions than an anonymous forum? Personally, as someone who has lurked tank for a few years now, I think he reads it. There have been times in the past where he's mentioned certain things, done certain things and I've thought "hmmm that's weird tank was literally talking about that". But once again there's no proof. It's just one of those vibes you get sometimes. (one major one I can think of is during the interview for mode of gauze where he said everyone massively complained about it. I know people can submit questionnaires after lives but I feel that a lot of Japanese people are more brutally honest when they can hide behind anonymity. ) 

Considering the "staff" posted a pic of his feet on the sukekiyo instagram today, I feel like this is just Kyo being (sorry to say) butthurt and it might just blow over.  A lot of the comments mention his age, mention how he's clearly trying and failing to copy 20 year olds by using insta, that he's lame or cringe and that's gonna hurt anyones pride. But I honestly think Kyo should be looking at the billions of comments on instagram of people who love him rather than a few trolls online. 

So with that being said I hope this was an interesting read and gave a little insight into why Kyo is often private. It was a big deal that he was posting so much and actively using instagra. I for one was very happy. I believe that in this day and age it is something that is required in order to engage with your audience and keep a good relationship. Hazuki and Ruki are good examples of this and Ive been saying for the longest time I wish Kyo would get more on board with it. So it's a shame he's left at the first hurdle. 

Oh well. This is why we can't have anything nice isn't it.

As someone who has OCD and severe intrusive thoughts, I have a lot of problems with posts like these. I'm gonna copy and paste a thread I posted on Twitter about the subject:

intrusive thoughts (like most symptoms of mental illness) are pretty much on a spectrum. Sometimes mine are actually generally harmless things like throwing my phone out the car window or just yelling in a crowd and sometimes they're terrifying/violent/evil.

imo posts like this prevent people from seeking help bc they don't think their symptoms are severe enough. I didn't develop OCD until I was an adult, and until my mental health completely fell apart my intrusive thoughts were manageable and mild but I didn't get help so they got worse and worse until they terrified me and gave me panic attacks. I still get intrusive thoughts- some of them horrifying and some of them mild- but now that my mental health is under control they're generally less severe and are a lot easier to deal with.

it's also worth noting that literally anybody can experience intrusive thoughts, not just people with OCD or PTSD etc. The difference between an nt person and a mentally ill/nd person's experience is in severity, frequency, and their ability to cope with them. They can also be a warning sign for an upcoming/developing issue like dementia/a psychotic break/ocd. If you have intrusive thoughts often and you obsess over them, even if they seem "mild" it's worth keeping an eye on and getting help if they increase in severity.

OCD can develop at any point in your life (though it typically appears by young adulthood) and people who develop OCD in early childhood are relatively rare. (Also worth knowing that OCD also comes in different subtypes, some of which don't fit the stereotype we see in media involving cleaning etc)

I understand where op is coming from but I just really don't think these kinds of posts are helpful to mentally ill/ND people.

At the end of the day, mental disorders are a collection of symptoms occuring in a predictable, frequent pattern. If you have enough of these symptoms and they happen chronically then you will be categorized as having a disorder/illness. However, people who don't meet the minimum criteria/threshold can still experience these symptoms. Keep that in mind!

side note: I think the reason why we tend to see so many people sharing their funny/mild intrusive thoughts rather than the more severe ones is bc like. The severe ones are so horrible you don't want to share them publicly but joking about the sillier ones might be a way to cope. personally, any detailed discussion of my awful/dangerous intrusive thoughts will be had privately between my therapist and I in a safe setting where I can get immediate support. But sometimes I will joke about how weird it is that my brain wants me to yell "fuck" in the middle of class and that doesn't mean I'm minimizing my own mental illness or faking having OCD/intrusive thoughts lol.

Anyway I'm sick of people saying that people who post jokey intrusive thoughts don't understand what intrusive thoughts are or that they don't experience """"real"""" intrusive thoughts. It's really dismissive of people's experiences and also just a generally incorrect assumption to make.

hey fall is coming around and that post “intrusive thought: eat a leaf” or whatever is probably gonna be floating around again so here’s a reminder that that post is not describing intrusive thoughts, but rather an impulse. intrusive thoughts are serious and can cause significant distress and should not be treated lightly. all those uwu relatable intrusive thoughts uwu posts are made by people who have a crucial misunderstanding of what intrusive thoughts are and likely don’t actually experience them, so keep that in mind before you start reblogging them uncritically. keep your mutuals with actual intrusive thoughts in mind and don’t reblog posts mocking and downplaying their experiences

My Lukewarm History with Pixelbuster/Nitomatta

Yesterday, independent gaming journalist Pixelbuster, or Nitomatta, has been under controversy for taking advantage of small gaming news site Final Weapon for getting review copies of games and don’t review them all, basically getting the games he’s supposed to review for free. He’s been fired from Final Weapon and put his journalist career to an end.

This post is copied and pasted from a thread I made yesterday, so think of it as a complete and more accessible guide to my rant about Pixelbuster/Nitomatta with a few changes from the thread. This post isn't about what happened to Pixel and owning games for free, since people talked about him, I decided to take an opportunity to rant with my own perspective about why do I dislike the guy.

I never liked Pixel the moment we started talking a little bit more and even brought me to his server in 2018. There are times that he contradicted me on certain things and seeing his tweets really drove me insane a lot in 2019 to the point that I had to mute him. 

I also never understood why did Pixel make me a mod on his server. I mean, I appreciate it but at the same time I need to understand what am I worth to him. But then I kind of abuse the power of being a mod by deleting people's negative comments I don't like. Not to mention I seriously rant and vent A LOT in his server which almost nobody didn't really care about comforting me at all, but at the same time I always thought I might be getting everyone on their nerves. And speaking of his server (which is now deleted lol), that's one of the worst servers I've ever been, the people in there are so bland, talk shit on a couple of things a lot, and they share all kinds of porn I wasn't a huge fan of the Western art style of. To top it all off with sharing NSFW content on his server, he's absolutely okay with having people share furry porn but not loli/shota porn because it would make some people uncomfortable. Like, really? Come on. Sure, you don't really have to like loli/shota porn, but still, learn to have more balls on bearing that shit, especially if whether or not you're those "Fiction = Reality" purists (Which I hate these kinds of people). 

Lastly, at one time, I left his server because I was getting tired of it, then I came back for a little bit to take a quick peek to see what has changed after announcing I was leaving, and then I left again.

Then Pixelbuster DM'd me on Discord saying to please come back to the server, I was getting bored anyways so I decided to return (along to the RPG Site Discord server where we first met and the one server I despise to death). Now I regret returning to his bland ass server. After returning to his server, Pixel told me "Thank you, I promise you we will help you" probably about my problems I constantly talk about. Then I constantly rant and vent on his server a lot and he and his friends continued to do NOTHING to help me. I also felt sorry for talking ill of him and a bit of his server, but afterwards, I took back my apology as I still loathe him and his server.

The only thing I'll admire Pixel for is that some of his viral clips get retweeted by Japanese people, particularly artists and most recently, I saw a tweet of a RE3 mod video where he was retweeted by bkub, the creator of Pop Team Epic.

For a while I’ve always wanted to randomly tweet that Pixelbuster is a clown, he’s a total piece of shit, and with all this scandal, I finally took the opportunity to say it, but not because of what he did with Final Weapon, because I never liked him. I never liked Pixel at all, part of me feels like he deserves the hate he's getting, and I wish to completely disassociate with me for good. Also, he hates Yumi. He likes all Senran Kagura girls except Yumi. Like, seriously? Fuck Pixel.

The most baffling things he's ever said is that he would get better from his mental health issues and negativity. I'm really sorry but I seriously can't help but laugh so hard at it because he seriously can't help himself on the way he is. His behavior and his opinions are the major reasons why do I despise Pixel to death, he's just absolutely destructive on a lot of things media related. Sure, you could say that most of his opinions attacking large corporates like Disney and such are valid, but it's just the way he expresses them and everything are something I seriously couldn't take him seriously for. That's why I muted him on Twitter this year, I couldn't stand a word he said and it drove me insane a lot last year. I know I already said that but I must stress that out.

What are the things that he contradicted me? Well...

On the RPG Site Discord, the time we were watching the Sega panel from Tokyo Game Show and there was a segment that featured the mobile game called Kotodaman, which they were talking about a Kemono Friends collab. I randomly said that I recognized the game from watching VTuber Noja Loli Ojisan Nekomasu, and he said "I don't care." In retrospect, that sounded very forced. (The thing about the Kotodaman and the Kemono Friends collab was around the same time Tatsuki got fired by Kadokawa when Kemono Friends turned out so successful.)

The time he shared a later Captain Marvel trailer and said that he's finally sold on it, I told him most trailer are fine and he told me "No."

The time when the One Punch Man fighter game was announced, I simply said that it probably was to capitalize on season 2 and he said "No one gives a shit about season 2." I mean, sure but you didn't need to tell me that. Hell, you didn't even HAVE to force your opinions saying that you don't care, can't you just simply learn to ignore, you fucking idiot?

Let's not even get started on the time Pixel banned BlindedOtaku (Who I really despise because he's annoying) from his after some internal drama on his server on December 30th 2018. I wouldn't like to get into details because I can't remember what exactly happened nor I care. The last thing I remember about the drama is that I brought BlindedOtaku to the server after being kicked because he told me so and elaborate on his account on what happened. Then Pixel banned him for good and told me "You tried."

What's the point of this post? The point of this thread is just pretty much ranting about my history with Pixel as "friends," even though I've always had a distance with him and to show off that I wholeheartedly don't recommend you talking to him for the faint of heart, especially after this whole drama happened.

I would say that he can be a very difficult person to talk with, but he's not, the last time I had a relatively normal conversation with him is that if he gets the laggy cutscenes in the PC port of Persona 4 Golden, which he told me it only affects laptop users (Well shit).

Now, here comes the ultimate question: Should Pixelbuster be cancelled?

Well, I'm an edgy person so I would say yes, but at the same time, I don't condone cancel culture and he should own up to his mistakes, so absolutely not. I don't like Pixel for what he is regardless of the drama, I probably won't redeem myself on liking him more, but for the faint of heart, I don't want him to be cancelled. I heard that he's admitted his mistakes so it's something. Even if he were to own up to his mistakes and apologize, he’s now been fired from Final Weapon, if shit goes a little too far outside of Final Weapon, then his career as a journalist has indeed been ruined. To reiterate, no, Pixelbuster should not be cancelled. (At this point he’s probably indeed cancelled.)

I was feeling tempted to talk about Pixelbuster since he's still present on Discord, I would probably talk to him about the situation, but because I need to keep my word about why do I dislike him, I decided to block him on Discord once and for all. I doubt I'd want to talk to him ever again. I was genuinely feeling soft on wanting to comfort the guy and I feel absolutely disgusted and I want to drill my head to suck all the blood from my brain for thinking that.

My biggest gripe with Pixel is that once I become a successful creator, when I make some despicable stories or say some dumb shit, he'd put me on the vein of MatPat and Disney, that’s how despicable he is. I’m sorry if I may sound egotistical and biased because I hate people’s opinions and stuff, but he’s one of the many things that turned me into the kind of person I am right now, an egotistical dude who has a deep hatred for literally anyone’s opinions, criticims, everything else, even small complaints, because I’m easy to get my thoughts dictated and I always disagree and refuse to believe anyone by (occasionally) insult and fight back directly at them.

A few hours ago, he had returned to Twitter only to make a TwitLonger about his statement, I probably wouldn’t care to read the whole thing, but the most important parts is that he’s gone off the face of the internet for good and he’s getting a proper job now. I wish I could have tell him some final words for him, but I can’t even bother.

And there you go, that’s the end of my experience with Pixelbuster. Totally unrelated to the review copy drama, but I wanted to tell everyone how unlikeable he’s always been. And with that said, I’m finally free! I’m finally free from being associated with this scumbag (even though we probably hadn’t interacted much but I’ve always seen his activities that seriously drove me insane), he, his Discord server and the people on it, everything can go to hell with him.

P.S. What’s with the Nitocris thumbnail? Well, Nitocris was his waifu, he’s always had Nitocris images as his profile pictures, but recently he had a new icon of a commission of his OC. That makes me think his love for Nitocris has ceased.

okay i feel like i talked about this already but maybe i only made a Twitter thread idk lol

anyway, it’s not a super interesting story but here we go:

y’all know i work at a library, and one day i this girl, probably middle school-almost-high-school age walks up to the desk and asks for help with printing.  she seems real nervous, or maybe embarrassed, and i figure it’s probably that she feels embarrassed that she needs help figuring out how to print.  A lot of people get that way when they come ask me for computer help but computers are fucking stupid so i don’t really blame anyone.

Anyway I’m like “sure of course” and i come around the desk and walk over to her computer with her and she doesn’t have the correct screen up, so i ask what it is she needs to print

and she kinda hesitates for a minute before reaching over and clicking to a google docs tab

there must be at least thirty screencaps here, all copied and pasted right from the anime into three different google docs of at least 3-4 pages each

now for a moment here the world goes in slow motion: first, i realize “she’s not embarrassed about needing help printing she’s embarrassed about someone seeing her SasuNaru stuff and potentially teasing her or making fun of her for it”

second, i think “to her i’m an adult librarian I probably shouldn’t even know what SasuNaru is–do i let on that I know what this is? will that make her uncomfortable? if I play it right will i become the Cool Librarian Who Knows Anime or will i make her more embarrassed about her ship preferences”

and finally my brain catches up to the passage of time and I just lean over and say “ah okay yeah you just click the print button here and send it like this…that’s gonna be 10 cents a page and i’ll go release it for you at the desk”

she seemed kind of relieved so perhaps not even drawing attention to what she was printing was the right choice and at the very least i got a neutral ending on that interaction

anyway since then she’s been in about 3-4 more times, she asked for help one more time, but she’s got the printing thing down now

i can see her screen from the desk sort of, at least, just well enough to know that she literally only comes into the library to print out SasuNaru…no other ships, no other anime, just SasuNaru….only SasuNaru

oh yeah im gonna uhhh copy these from what I said on twitter bc i want people here to have a chance to read these but: very long dr2 thoughts incoming. these were originally disparate threads but im too lazy to combine them coherently so this is what you get. under a readmore bc its very long and annoying lol

1. im gonna talk about this more when im further in and also when its not 5 am, but theres Something about the way that dr does its plot twists that feels kind of insulting to the intelligence of its audience. like. yeah a good plot twist is well-foreshadowed but at a certain point if you have an amnesiac protag and a traitor that gets mentioned from the very beginning............ik that there Is a reveal about this at some point already but its like. Really. R.

(honestly this was more of an issue with dr1 telegraphing its twists miles ahead but like. when you add like 6 blatant red herrings to try to confuse the player its just. Not good)

2. anyway minor nitpick that has nothing to do with the actual game and is a localization thing: who the fuck decided that "theater bonus prize" had to be the right order for that in English. that is super fucking unclear. you could justify "bonus theater prize" just as well.

honestly I've noticed a bunch of typos in the localization that really make me question it. this clearly isn't an original game issue but its not just forgetting a word or smthn, its forgetting the first letter of a word in a minigame. forgetting punctuation quite often. its..idk. its baffling to me bc dr isn't even a super old game? the official loc is WAY recent and I didn't even notice it being this bad in dr1 so idk what the hell is up

actually wait im thinking abt this more and dr2 having SO MANY translation errors is annoying when like. its a popular as fuck franchise (for some reason) and yet the quality of your translation is worse than obscure shit like rloop? what is wrong with you. ive already heard some tales about how gonta and (the one girl in v3 idk her name) got localized and ???? what the actual fuck happened there

3. honestly half of my problems w dr are literally just Plot Structure Things and I dont think v3 is gonna change those much. wow there are 5 islands! and there's obviously going to be a conclusion chapter! i Wonder how many people are going to die if two people die (ish) per chapter! wuoh!!!!!

4. i would like to criticize the 3rd case in dr2 specifically bc of it doing a hangman, a logic dive, and then another fucking hangman. who on EARTH thought that was okay. you do the first hangman and then instantly figure out The Case's Major Twist like. you didn't need those other two

5. honestly i might be going harder on dr2 than I would be otherwise purely because my last two games were fucking rloop and 13s which have absolutely MAGNIFICENT mysteries that feel properly foreshadowed the whole time. if you play two absolutely wonderful games In A Row then a completely average game is gonna feel like a mess lol

6. oh this is a dr structure complaint and not exactly something I know how to fix but once you get past the halfway point the murder mystery aspect starts getting way more boring for me bc you just have fewer and fewer people who could actually commit the crime.

like at this point in dr2 im like

-hinata is the protag

-komaeda seems way too plot important

-chiaki wouldn't kill anyone

-akane is gonna die probably but she's not cunning enough to kill

-nidai . is a robot

which leaves literally three fucking people (excluding fuyuhiko bc i don't think they'd put him through more pain). Please

7. ig dr's structure (in general, i cant see this Not applying to v3 and it applied to 1) would work better for me if it did something like rloop or yt//td. i know that's basically turning it into a different game but if you make your entire cast Potential Willing Murderers...hm.

its really hard to do death games generally but they generally feel less interesting to me if its just like "heres a motive, now Kill" like. idk. the motives never really have felt strong enough for me to believe they'd actually kill people. except the second case of 2 bc yeah that one actually tracks for me, but otherwise I'm like. the locked room mystery of 1 actively makes me angry bc the motive is stupid as fuck. Things Like That

8. idk man obviously im gonna finish dr as a series bc a) I already own it b) it's too influential in the cosplay community for me to not, but it is genuinely kind of baffling to me how THIS is the spikechun game that got popular. its not bc of the M rating bc 999 is RIGHT there. at least the music slaps but it keeps feeling like a slog, and when I finished the last two games I played - both of which are 40+ hour games - in A WEEK because of how engaging they were...it feels a little more painful than it would otherwise
