[Video ID: A TikTok video by user bethabiff. The audio is “Alice in Wonderland” by Joanna. The video shows two rats outside in a playpen, on grass. One of the rats is black hooded and the other is a hooded brown rat. The black hooded rat is being stroked by the person filming, and as he is being stroked, his tail is wagging. /end ID]
Rating: Not Cute
As I have discussed many times on this blog, bringing rats outdoors is not safe. Even in a playpen that is mostly covered like this one, the possibility of parasites, bacteria, pesticides, or ingesting toxic plants is still an issue. There is also the fact that rats are incredibly good at burrowing, and could easily dig underneath the playpen and escape.
Tail wagging is a normal behavior for rats and is often indicative of a strong emotion. Some rats do it when they’re being pet to show that they’re happy or content, and some rats do it when they’re territorial or angry as a way to get that energy out or warn others of their displeasure. Not every rat does it, but if you come across a rat that tail wags it’s not anything to be concerned about.
In this specific case, I also want to note the follow-up video that was made after the original post. I am unable to add a second video to this post, but the link is here: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRYtBF8U/?k=1 I will also put a video description at the bottom of the post.
This video confirms some more issues with the husbandry in the previous video. In the caption of the first video, the OP mentions Emile being upset that he had gotten attacked by another rat named Bruno. In the follow-up video, Bruno is showed wandering around the playpen with the other rats, and the OP mentions that he is being neutered soon. However, hormonally aggressive rats NEED to be separated from cagemates until at least 4-8 weeks after a neuter. Any time before then, they are capable of biting hard enough to kill another rat or cause severe nerve damage to humans. It’s an unnecessary risk and is unfair for the other rats.
Additionally, this comment was pinned under the second video:

[image ID: a TikTok comment by user bethabiff, the creator of the video that the comment was pinned on. The comment says, “Dear TT vets: I know the risks for my area, I take precautions, I’ve owned rats for most of my life, I work at a vet. [thumbs up emoji] /end ID]
Unfortunately these are pretty empty statements. Knowing the risks but choosing to put your animals lives in danger for “cute videos” frankly isn’t a responsible or ethical thing to do. I’m also curious what precautions they take against risks like parasites or bacteria, since rats cannot be vaccinated or given preventative parasite treatment like dogs or cats can. And honestly, owning rats most of your life or even “working at a vet” doesn’t necessarily mean you know best. I’ve had supposed exotic vets tell me flat out incorrect advice, that I knew was incorrect because I had read the scientific studies about the condition beforehand. And experience does not equate to expertise, especially if you don’t update your husbandry as new information comes out. Regardless, “knowing the risks” and still presenting bringing rats outdoors is irresponsible and encouraging other people to get a playpen and try it out for themself shows either a lack of actual knowledge, or a lack of care for the animals involved in these practices in favor of views and “cute” content.
———
[Video ID: A TikTok video by user bethabiff. In the video, bethabiff is replying to a question by user imactuallykira who asks, “what do you use to keep them contained outside[?] i wanna let my ratties play in the grass [pleading face emoji]”
During the video, the OP is speaking while three rats run around in the same playpen on the grass as the previous video. In addition to the two hooded rats, there is also a solid-colored brown rat visible. They wander around the playpen grooming themselves, digging, and eating grass during the course of the video.
The audio of the video is as follows: “I got that question a lot, so let me tell you where I got this pen. I got it where you get all good things in life: Amazon. I just search ‘small creature plastic playpen’ and that’s what it looks like. In the picture, it looks like a big rectangle one with no lid. And that’s because you can kind of customize it once like, all the panels come, you can put them together and make it any way you want. You can get multiple - like two different shipments - and put them on again and make a really big one, but the one kind of fits my need, and they like it a lot.
Also regarding the tail wagging, people were asking why he was doing it, and the honest answer to that is I’m not a hundred percent sure. So, rats can wag their tails for multiple different reasons: happy, sad, nervous, angry. And I think in this - in the case of the video, he was both a little upset and happy. Happy that I was petting him, but also sad that he just got attacked by Bruno. So I think he was doing that for a little bit of both, but he really seemed to like it, and he’s a sweet little angel baby. Bruno on the other hand is a little hormone monster, and he’s getting neutered on Monday everybody, so that’ll be great. And Bambi’s just pretty chill. Aren’t you Bambi? Yeah anyways, thanks for making Emile the star he is. Yeah, you gonna wag one more time for the folks at home? [The OP starts petting Emile, and he wags his tail again.] Oh my god you actually did. Oh my god yes Emile. Bruno get out of here.” /end ID]

I Used Artificial Intelligence on Japanese Voice Actor (Seiyuu) Content
TL;DR Seiyuu fansubber rambles too long about how Whisper and other AI go *BRRRR!!!!* and the future of humanity is at stake. Actual TL;DR OpenAI's Whisper gives us a sneak peek into just how much automatic transcription and translation by artificial intelligence has improved. I wouldn't say it'll completely replace human translation just yet, but it's definitely something industries will have to adapt to.
Introduction
Let's start why I even decided to make this blog. I woke up today and noticed a message on The Seiyuu Stage Discord server that had a very interesting link to a reddit post. According to OP, they used OpenAI's Whisper to create a collection of English translated subtitles on the popular TV show "Tokyo Encounter", which is hosted by the famous Japanese voice actors (seiyuu) Nakamura Yuuichi and Sugita Tomokazu. OP claims that Whisper has "quite good translation" and was "roughly ~90% accurate". That's a pretty big claim if I do say so myself.
Although the link led to one of those shady pirating sites, curiousity got the best of me and I decided to download it like an idiot. Fortunately I didn't get hit with a trojan or anything, and the file was just a zip full of .ass files (subtitle files similar to .srt files). Before I jump into the main content of this blog post, I'd like to provide some important background information that is required to understand just what I'm talking about.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert in the field of artificial intelligence. I am also not a native Japanese speaker.
Background Information
Even if you've been living under a rock for the past year or so, you've probably at least heard of the crazy fast advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) within the past few months. You've probably heard of Stable Diffusion, ChatGPT, and many other AI that have begun to revolutionize the world. Today I'll be doing a quick review of how well OpenAI's Whisper works on a certain type of niche content. For those of who are not yet unware, OpenAI is famous for it's AI "ChatGPT". I literally asked ChatGPT to explain what ChatGPT is here below.
What is OpenAI's Whisper?
So what about Whisper? What is its purpose? According to OpenAI's official blog post,
"Whisper is an automatic speech recognition (ASR) system trained on 680,000 hours of multilingual and multitask supervised data collected from the web."
To put it simply, Whisper is like a supercharged Google Translate for videos and audio or a better YouTube auto-captions.
Like YouTube's auto-captions feature, Whisper can transcribe human speech and even translate it into other languages. The one downside is that Whisper cannot auto transcribe and auto translate in real time, so you cannot watch a video/listen to audio at the same time. That leads me to the next section of this horribly organized post.
OpenAI's Whisper Vs. Japanese Voice Actor (Seiyuu) Content
Ok, with all of the background knowledge that's required to understand is now out of the way, I can finally jump into the main purpose of this blog. The main things I'll be exploring are listed below
Just HOW GOOD is Whisper AI at transcribing and translating Japanese? More specifically, speech from professional voice actors in Japan, who are usually known for having some of the most clearest enunciation in the country.
How does Whisper compare to other machine transcribers/translators such as YouTube's Auto-Captions feature and Adobe's Speech to Text feature for Premiere Pro?
Is Whisper AI even worth using?
Whisper AI - Transcribing & Translating
Due to some issues with my PC not cooperating with them, I am currently not able to actually use Whisper myself. Therefore, I will be using Whisper outputs that I got from other people.
Let's start by looking where Whisper messes up.
CLIP 1
youtube
Nakamura: How about you set it to today? Hanae: It's the 9th.
So in the clip above, Nakamura suggests Hanae to set the date on the game to be the day the episode airs/is recorded, which is on the 9th of the month. For some reason, Whisper completely messes up the translation. This is about 1 minute and 30 seconds into the episode, and until then there were no obvious mistakes from Whisper.
CLIP 2
youtube
There are two lines in the clip above that stand out to me.
花江 「出た!懐かしい」 Hanae: I remember this 杉田 「ちょっと声が若い」 Sugita: He's a young man
While the translation for Hanae's line isn't outright wrong, it lacks some nuance. I would've translated it as, "There it is! This brings me back!"
Whisper leaves out the nuance of Hanae being surprise when it suddenly appears on screen, and also him expressing his feeling of nostalgia.
With Sugita's line, Whisper straight up incorrectly translates the line. Sugita states that the voice of speaker in the game sounds like he's young (implying that the voice of the speaker sounds a lot older in the present day).
CLIP 3
youtube
In this 3rd clip, I'd like to praise Whisper for accurately transcribing the input controls that Hanae is reading out loud. There were no mistakes in this particular clip, and it didn't make any mistakes when Hanae was reading the input controls before this scene as well.
If I had to nitpick, Whisper seems to really push back the timing of each subtitle line way too much. You can clearly see that the line appears before anyone actually says anything, and this issue persists throughout the rest of clips I'll be showing. Obviously, this is something you can manually fix and is rather simple.
Also, Whisper seems to not care about pauses within a sentence. Hanae laughs, causing him to not complete his sentence smoothly, however Whisper doesn't take that into account. This ties into the next clip.
CLIP 4
youtube
In this next clip above, there are no mistakes. I would say that Whisper did a pretty good job here correctly translating what was said, and there's not really much to complain about.
However, I would like to note that Whisper lacks a sense of "spice" to all of its outputs. I can't say, "It's almost as if a machine made this", because well... a machine basically did. Whisper lacks that special feeling that a human took their time to think about and translate each line. It is quite literally robotic at times.
CLIP 5
youtube
So in this clip above, you can clearly tell that the issues I mentioned earlier are all kind of compounded.
The timing of the subtitle line is way too early.
"He's not doing anything." is not what Nakuramura said.
Whisper completely ignored what Sugita said.
CLIP 6
youtube
In this final clip from the show, I'd like to include it because what's happening on screen is just kind of funny.
Whisper mistakes Hanae saying すね毛 (sunege), which means leg hair, for the word "sneaky".
I would like to praise Whisper for properly indentifying that Sugita is the one actually controlling the character in this clip though. Japanese is a language where simply saying a verb can be considered as gramatically correct, which means that they can leave out pronouns like "I".
PIKA CLIP
youtube
Let's look at a clip that includes both human translation and Whisper translation. This clip was made by Pika Can't Sub, a fellow seiyuu fansubber and the one who originally linked the reddit post I mentioned earlier. They set up Whisper locally on their PC and tested it out themselves.
In the clip above, the WHISPER translated subtitles are the white ones on the top, and Pika's manual translation on the bottom. You can clearly see that Whisper is REALLY GOOD. Both Whisper's and Pika's translations work really well and there's practically little to no unnatural English.
One thing to note here is that this is appears to be a Japanese news show. Narrators must speak very clearly in order to convey the informaton to the viewers, so that probably helped by making it far easier for Whisper to accurately pick up on what was said.
Comparing Whisper to Other Audio Transcribers
YouTube's Auto-Captions Feature
With my limited test of Whisper I would say it is far, FAR, more accurate compared to YouTube's auto-captions. I'm sure most of you reading this blog have at least used YouTube's auto-captions feature before. Whenever you're watching on YouTube that doesn't have manually added captions, you can turn on this feature. It will transcribe what is spoken in the video, and can even automatically translate it to your desired language.
The biggest downside is that this feature tends to make mistakes, and I mean A LOT of mistakes. In my opinion, it works pretty well for English, but for other languages such as Japanese it tends to be really iffy. Mileage may vary. When using YouTube's auto-captions feature to translate from English to Japanese or the other way around, you'll most likely get very unnatural and odd translations.
If you've ever studied a foreign language before, you'll also know that languages like English and German drastically different from languages like Japanese and Korean. I believe that's the reason why so much gets lost in translation when using machine translation like YouTube's auto-captions. Sometimes the top comment on a YouTube video is just about laughing at the mistakes that the auto-captions makes.
It's almost as if Google Translate was just slapped onto YouTube and they called it a day.
Adobe's Speech to Text for Premiere Pro
youtube
I will using the video I created above as a reference for this section~
You may have also heard of Adobe's "Speech to Text" for Premiere Pro. Like YouTube's auto-captions and OpenAI's Whisper, it uses AI technology to transcribe human speech into text. As far as I'm aware though, Adobe's version does not have any translation feature, and also has a far more limited amount of languages that it can transcribe. In my personal opinion, it is far better than YouTube's auto-captions. Since Premiere Pro is a software application for video editing, the Speech to Text integration is really nice. One major downside is that this Adobe feature, along with the rest of their suite, is not free and you have to pay a monthly subscription just to use it.
Like Whisper, you give the AI an audio file that it will read. The AI will then spend a certain amount of time, which varies depending on the length of the audio file, and then spit out the transcription of what you originally fed it. What's nice about Adobe's Speech to Text is that you can literally select it word for word and it'll start playing the timeline from the exact point the AI picked up that word. With Whisper, it only gives you a completed file with timestamps. I believe Whisper gives you an SRT file and that's about it.
My Experience With Adobe's AI
The video is a snippet that I translated and edited from the Bocchi the Radio!, which is the official radio for the TV anime Bocchi the Rock!. The speakers in this clip are the voice actresses for Gotoh Hitori and Yamada Ryou. In this particular episode, 青山吉能 (Aoyama Yoshino) AKA Yoppii, has just physically moved away from her microphone in the studio in order to grab the mail that they have received from listeners of the radio. She is now rushing back to her seat and trying to make it in time to read the segment title and explanation before the music ends. You can also hear 水野朔 (Mizuno Saku) AKA Sakupi, laughing as she is confused as to why Yoppii is frantically running around the studio.
Adobe's version is definitely not perfect by any means. Below, I have provided a small snippet of the raw output I got from it after giving it a wav file (mp3 files work just fine as well). This is about 0:10 in the YouTube video above.
If you can understand Japanese and English, you can immediately tell there are some discrepancies in what Adobe's AI outputted.
Adobe's Speech to Text Output
Yoppii 「その割合こちらの。」 "Here's the proportion."
Yoppii 「コーナーリスナーさんから用件はこういうことをしているという最新四家情報を送ってもらうコーナーです。」 This is a corner where listeners send us the latest information about the latest four houses that are doing this kind of thing.
My Manual Transcription Fix
Yoppii 「ああああ!!!!間に合え!!」 "AHHHH!!!! MAKE IT IN TIME!!!!"
Yoppii 「こちらのコーナー!リスナーさんから陽キャはこういうことをしているという最新ら陽キャ情報を送ってもらうコーナーです。」 "It's a segment~~! This is a segment where we get listeners to send us the latest extrovert information about how extroverts are doing ____."
For those who don't understand Japanese I'll try to explain some common issues I have with this feature, and elaborate more on the mistakes that the AI has made in this particular case.
One of the many issues I've had with Adobe's Speech to Text feature is that it tends to split lines at an odd place in the sentence. Not quite sure why that is, but I suspect it has to do with how this feature tends to split English speech. Sometimes the AI will spit out a line that is just a huge blob of text and you have to manually split it into multiple lines.
Sometimes Adobe's Speech to Text just leaves out entire words and/or completely transcribes the wrong word. I've noticed this happens whenever there's music that plays at the same time, and/or the audio of the speaker isn't clear. This occurs with YouTube's auto-captions as well and I can't blame it. Error 1: Yoppii is basically doing that fake "AHHHH!!!!" scream, and also yells "MAKE IT IN TIME!!!!" as she tries to get back into her seat in time. The AI obviously did not transcribe this part at all. Error 2: The slang term 陽キャ (you-kya) in Japanese refers to someone who is rather bright, cheerful, and outgoing. I translated it as extrovert in the clip. The AI picked it up as 用件 (you-ken) which means "business; things to be done; errand". It also picked it up a second time as 四家 which is literally four houses lol
In conclusion, with all the bashing I've done on Adobe's Speech to Text feature, I think it's actually really great. The particular example I showed above is usually a tough one for most AI/machine transcribers anyway. It ends to do really well, and far better than what YouTube's auto-captions usually outputs. Although I still have to manually retime all the subtitle lines and manually fix transcription errors, this AI has been an amazing tool in bringing my content creation to the next level.
I would say as a fansubber, timing all the subtitle lines is one of the most time consuming parts of the process, aside from actually translating all the lines. With Adobe's Speech to Text, it actually speeds up the process. With all the AI I've used so far, which isn't just limited to transcribing and translating AI, I've realized that they're best used as a sort of launching pad. With Adobe's Speech to Text, it gives me a rough mold (starting point) and then I can reshape it to how I want, which is a lot faster than starting with nothing at all.
Some other things that make Adobe's Speech to Text feature better than OpenAI's Whisper
You can choose whether or not to distuingish between mulitple speakers, and you can even manually rename or add more if you like.
After the trancription process is done, you can even convert all of it to captions. Since Premiere Pro 2022, Adobe has added a dedicated captions layer and other updates to make the editing process a better experience. I personally don't use this, because I tend to split each line in a very specific manner that's not possible with the current settings.
I also used Adobe's Speech to Text to help me create this video below.

DeepL Translator
I'd like to just mention DeepL really quick. Like Google Translate, you can give it some text in one language and it will translate to one of the many other languages that are available. I would say DeepL gives far better translations than Google Translate.
DeepL also tends to do really well when translating single sentences. It is pretty good at keeping the nuances and that special human "spice" in slang. That's just my experience with Japanese to English and English to Japanese though.
Unfortunately, DeepL doesn't seem to have a video/audio transcription model or service. That means you would have to manually input each sentence if you were to do a video, and that would an absolute pain. DeepL does seem to have a feature that allows you to upload word documents and PDF files, but I have not tested that out.
Final Thoughts
If you actually read this far, you are a mad man and I truly appreciate you for taking time out of your day to do so. Thank you so much.
How should I conclude this blog...?
To put it simply, this is a game changer.
I started using Adobe's Speech to Text around the end of 2022, and at the time I thought it was an absolute game changer. I had seen some posts about OpenAI's Whisper on TikTok, but didn't think it would be better than Adobe's model. However, after doing some research and writing this blog, I think Whisper might be just as good, if not better than Adobe's. Of course, YouTube's Auto-Captions doesn't even compare. As for DeepL, I would say DeepL is way better for adding in that human "spice" and sounding naturally. Unfornatutely as of writing this blog, DeepL doesn't seem to be working on any video transcription service (that I'm aware of).
So is OpenAI's Whisper worth looking into and using it yourself? ABSOLUTELY. It's open-source, which means its free and the results it gives are without a doubt one of the best out there. AI such as Whisper aren't quite developed enough to completely replace transcribers and translators such as myself just yet, but I'm not sure how much longer until it will. As of right now, these types of AI can be used as a very powerful tool to accelerate your work and actually provide positive changes!
I can't wait to see how much further AI will improve within the next couple years!
Please check out the rest of my channel! I create japanese voice actor (seiyuu) subbed content, mainly on YouTube!

I know tumblr is held together by digital duct tape and everything but i really do like it. The posting system especially. Like you can make whatever sort of posts, a short textpost, a gifset, a video, a song, a link, and any combination of that. What other site lets me post a dozen paragraphs broken up by images and gifs.
Im not restricted in character count like on twitter, im not restricted to video format like tiktok, or to a caption below an image slideshow/video like IG, or to a single video like youtube, or to any variation of stories. Resdit has the right idea with tge long text posts and video/image/link options. but tumblr lets you have nearly the same freedoms as the Op *even in the reblog option*
It offers a level of freedom in the content format that i really don't know if i can see elsewhere on other well-known sites.
Plus the timeline is actually chronological and not controlled by an algorithm. The search bar is absolute dogshit, plus the adult content ban is bullshit. But like, for all its flaws it offers a surprising level of originality and everything.
Like where am i gonna go to rant about my creations if tumblr goes under or changes completely? I'd honestly just have to start my own site if i hope to have that sort of control over my post formats yknow.
With the lack of targeted ads, displayed follower numbers, mandatory public likes, word censorship, and connected personal info, i think it's the sort of site that we really won't know we'll miss until it's gone.
no tumblr-like sites are gonna appear again. The reason tiktok grew so big was because of its intense algorithms and appeal to ease of virality, stuff that's really necessary if a site wants to make it. Tumblr's sort of been grandfathered in from a different time. Any tumblr-like site that's made now won't have the momentum to compete.
So like, just remember. It may be a hellsite, but at least it's the first of the nine circles

I don't really understand why the incorrect caption meme is funny. I come from a place with lots of visually impaired and deaf people who use aids like readers and transcripts and this meme just doesn't make sense to me. In a time where we're trying to be more accessible and inclusive by normalizing captions for people who need them, this meme is made? Is it funny bc they're inside jokes that disabled people can't understand/can't be in on? Idgi :/
Are you referring to the “fieriframes” gifs? If so: I am completely with you. I don’t think it’s in any way cute or funny to mess around with captions for the sake of a joke in a way that ostracizes deaf or visually impaired people. I also whole-heartedly care about including written/text captions for visually-impaired people, and I think including captions is especially pertinent online in spaces where we try to share a lot of info/resources for each other (informative stuff; donation posts; lists of sources; etc.).
And I also think the inclusion of captions is just as important in “less-serious” contexts, specifically in online spaces where socialization includes a lot of humor (like, say, this site, where the in-jokes and screwing around play a big part in socializing), because being left out of the joke (which might seem to some to be a “minor” thing) excludes people who can’t participate because of the amount of visual humor. So I also agree with you, that normalizing captions is serious business with real consequences for quality of life and allowing deaf/visually-impaired to participate in jokes, disk horse, exchange, education, etc.
I want to say that I have been under the impression that the joke/humor in fierframes’ gifs is not about inaccurate captions per se, but is about the juxtaposition between the carefree whimsy of Fieri goofing around with fun foods contrasted to the dire dreadful unsettling captions drawn from horror stories, etc. Or that’s how I interpret them, at least. Like, as if to say: We’re living in hell being strangled by tentacles of a cruel imperial world-system, but turn on the TV and here’s Fieri moaning in ecstasy while eating mac-and-cheese. I may be wrong, but my interpretation had been that the jokes were less about “look, we applied the wrong caption” and more about “worlds are ending and apocalypse has become a generalized planetary condition, and this late-90s-aesthetic guy is high-fiving his bros in a convertible in the glistening California sunlight on the way to get some mozzarella sticks; what strange lives we live.”
I do seriously try to consider how everything I reblog will affect anyone, each one of my friends, who will see it. Does this “big-brain” wojak caricature basically invoke the r-word slur? Is the OP a transmisogynist? Is this a good meme, or is it just a white suprem@c!st cartoon with new captions? Is the cat video actually funny, or is the cat actually in distress? Was this 18th-century Japanese landscape artist a supporter of imperial expansion in the Pacific? Was this early-20th-century Eastern European landscape artist an ethn0nationalist? Is this actually a neat photo of a frog, or did the photographer harass and then unnaturally position the exhausted and dehydrated frog on top of the mushroom for a photo-op? Is this a feel-good story about environmental justice, or is this actually a story in V!ce magazine about a Bay Area start-up making money off of “green capitalism”, gentrification, and a wealthy eco-retreat? Do I really want to link to a major media institution article to give those conglomerates any more attention or site traffic? I like this goth fashion, but did the pictured model say racist shit on tw!tter? Is this a cool aesthetic post of decaying architecture, or are we actually gawking at ruin p0rn without consider the pain endured by people still living there? Is the glorification of the idyllic English university campus "cool” to people who aren’t wealthy and white and can’t access those schools; from where did British universities steal their wealth during the era of overt colonialism? Is this video of a dog actually cool, or are we actually seeing animal abuse/neglect? In what context was the video taken? Who was harmed when this photo was taken? Is this text post actually funny, or is it really just appropriating AAVE? And if I missed the mark in sharing those captioned gifs, then I’m sorry.
And thank you. I think it’s good and compassionate of you to care, and to have cared enough to send me this message. Glad you did.

[video id: a tiktok video by @atute_insp where they talk about ways you can help Congo. the transcript goes as such:
(the video starts with op talking into a small microphone in a room, facing the camera. there are two black boxes with white text above her, one reading "How to help Congo (Congolese flag emoji)" and the other being for captions. (NOTE: the original captions in the video are not entirely correct, i corrected them in this id.)
OP: are you looking for way to help and support Congo? watch this video to the end.
(the larger black box disappears, and the background cuts to show a screenshot of the congo campaigns page on freecongo.org)(NOTE: the correct link to use is freecongo.org, not congo.org)
OP: now this, first of all, might be the most important and most useful way that you can help Congo. visit congo.org. you get bountiful information on, you know, what is happening in Congo and what's, um, freecongo.org is about, right, and ways to help Congo. so please, visit this website and share with anyone you see asking for information on how to help Congo, always direct them to freedom-um, freecongo.org, okay?
(background cuts to the instagram page of Friends of the Congo)
OP: Friends of the Congo on instagram, and they actually also have a page here on tiktok, which i will show you, hold on-
(background cuts to the tiktok page of @/congofriends)
OP:-there you go-they are also here on tiktok. follow them, they have a bunch of information on what is going on in Congo, how you can help Congo, where to donate, what petitions to sign, go check them out, okay? follow them, interact with their content.
(background cuts to the tiktok page of @/pappyorion)
OP: Pappy Orion. I cannot stress how important it is for you to be following Pappy Orion, interacting with his content, reposting his content-he's on the ground in Congo, and, in my opinion, these are some of the most important people for us to be, you know, interacting with in these times, because they have direct contact with what is going on, he is not only on the ground, he is working with the civilians of Congo, he is taking donations, he is showing you where your donations are going, he's giving direct reports, and he's amplifying the voice of the civilians on the ground, okay? so you need to be following him, you need to be interacting with his content, you need to be reposting his content, okay? please.
(background cuts to the tiktok page of @readingafricana)
OP: Hadija, reading Africana-I have reccomended her page so many times, but I understand that not everybody must-would have seen my videos or would have come across her page. if you're not following Hadija, you need to be following her, because she-not only does she let-let us know-she gives us updates on what is going on in Congo, she educates us on the history of Congo, she does deep dives into the nuances of the politics in Congo, and she informs us on ways to help Congo-she's always updating on new ways to help Congo, lawsuits that are taking place on behalf of Congo-you need to be following Hadija.

OP: last, and certainly not least, you need to be engaging with Yana. Yana has music that she puts up on this platform-on tiktok-you can stream, and then through the funds that she gets from the streams, she sends over to Congo, and not only Congo-you can see Sudan, and i think, um, i'm not sure what countries so i'm not going to say but i'm pretty sure Congo and Sudan. you stream her music, and she sends aid, she sends, um, funds over to Congo, right? and if you're following people like Pappy Orion and, um, freecongo.org, then you know what your money is being used for, right? so now, i'm also going to tag other creators that i know that updates on Congo, give more information, because i try to update as much as possible, but sometimes i might still miss information, so i'll be tagging other creators that i believe you should follow, and interact with their content, and then you can always be updated, okay? free Congo, thank you for watching. hm, why do i have a weird feeling that you're gonna be very cautious of every link that i give to you? honestly, that's probably not a bad decision lololol
also, here's a song that rlly reminds me of my nonexistent childhood. there's english captions btw. it makes me weirdly nostalgic even though i'm not exactly 'old' yet. pinky promise that it's not another rick roll or a blessed cursed video that randomly popped up in my recommendations :))
— r. anon
clickable link for the last ask here!
* * *
i mean... even if i was wary (in which case, i am), i would still click on the links bc i trust people too much and hello?? it’s you?? how can i not? on the other hand, that song is on my uh ‘when i need to write angst’ playlist and one of my favorites from kenshi yonezu. it hits different when you read the lyrics but when i’m just vibing to it, it still hits bc the melody and idk... the feelings reach you regardless. it’s bittersweet almost and im just... sobbing.
stonehide lawachurls? is that one of the new challenges? i havent tried it out yet but it sounds like a drag. honestly the shooting game is the one i liked the most bc it almost serves as target practice for venti. as you know, i am a newly converted pc player from mobile and archery in mobile is... ehe. and the gliding one. ugh. i suck at gliding and im not very good at choosing which way to go. the rhythm one is fun too. i didn’t play osu on pc so it took a bit to figure out how to control but ig piano lessons helped me calm down and match beats. honestly, i just top the scores i need to get the rewards and stop. i havent really tried beating highscores yet bc i was doing the hangouts yesterday.
i think im good w the games? they are pretty easy when you get the hang of it but istg i can’t do barrage minuet. i mean i can but i cant dodge all of it which is what i need to fully do all the things in the first list. do u wanna co-op the mini-games? it sounds fun to play w someone.
honestly same! this is the first weekend i didn’t need to worry about passing smth and it really feels liberating. like i actually have control over my life and i can freely do the things i love to do w/o worrying abt anything. the feeling you get abt being anxious bc you dont have anything to be anxious about? felt and valid. im so used to worrying abt missing smth bc i feel too free but ive been so overworked that i can barely care rn. ig thats just proof that we hold so much anxiety in us. i hope you took this time to rest and rejuvenate regardless!
it’s actually a holiday here today so no classes. just more hours spent on genshin, farming and farming.
i watched that before (a bop btw) and pls?? kaeya?? good boy?? diluc?? bad boy?? no ❤️

Thoughts on The Moon Video
Hey guysss I dunno how many of my followers actually check out my text posts like these but I just watched The Moon Video and have some thoughts. Not necessarily theories, not necessarily criticisms, just... thoughts.
What’s most interesting to me is that the video isn’t set up how I thought it would be. Most of the time, when someone on Youtube (or even on here) is introducing new ideas/theories to a fandom, they do it in an essay format. I’m sure we’ve all come across plenty of video essays, and I very much thought that’s what was going on here. But it’s.... not. It’s not a video essay. As far as I’m aware, there wasn’t even any commentary at all. Which goes into my next thought:
The video opened my mind and then didn’t put anything in it. The video is a conversation starter. From what I could tell (I didn’t have captions on or anything, I don’t know if there was extra commentary somewhere) there was absolutely no insertion of opinion or conclusions drawn. I described it in a liveblog to my friends as my brain feeling like “an open sunroof on a moving car.” The most information we get is from the titles of each segment, as well as the order in which the clips are presented. But other than that the whole thing is entirely objective. The only fan theory it even proposes is the “Fjord is Goku” one, which from what I understand wasn’t the original idea of the poster, but was the headcanon of the man who asked the question at the panel.
Speaking of, does anyone have more evidence on that? I’m going to go look in the tags later to see if I can find more arguments for it but I went from 0 to 65% convinced. Pointing out Travis’s love of Dragon Ball is the most convincing thing for me (I’ve never seen Dragon Ball so I wouldn’t have made that connection myself), along with Matt’s descriptions of falling. One thing I didn’t see OP mention to support it was the “power words” Ukotoa was using in Fjord’s initial dreams. Obviously the ones we all remember are “Consume” and “Reward”. But iirc, the “consume” dream (and ones before that, if there were any we saw) was heavily implying that Fjord could only please Ukotoa by slaughtering in his name, similarly to what Yasha did as Orphanmaker. Obviously Ukotoa would want this for his own gain, but it would fit right into Fjord being sent to destroy the world, especially in an age of the rising of the personification of Chaos. But yeah by the time I was starting to get on the bandwagon and wanted to see more evidence the segment was over so that was kind of disappointing.
Again, aside from that ^ theory, there really aren’t any that the video presents? It just gives you the information and people are drawing their own conclusions. Which is great!!! It’s fucking phenomenal! But it’s far from what I expected nor am used to in fandom. Information being presented objectively, without comment??? Unheard of. I’m still barely able to comprehend the idea.
That being said, some of yall were obviously paying more attention than I was because I never put together any of the “Rudinis IS the Luxon” shit. I just knew things like metals were falling from the sky and assumed this whole video was just a buildup to the Fjord theory.
My own theory about what Rudinis is: a portal
Again, take this with a grain of salt because I clearly wasn’t paying enough attention. But portals have already been a pretty major obstacle that the M9 are having to face, especially in the context of the BBEG (which I’m assuming is going to be Tharizdun). As in, portals have been behind basically everything so far. And while, yes, Rudinis being the body of a dead god or something is fucking awesome, it just seems unlikely given what’s been supposedly falling from it?? I know that metals and shit being organic material isn’t out of the realm of possibility for a god, but if you tie in everything thats fallen AND the Fjord theory, then that’s an awful lot of random shit to come from one organic creature. You know what else is random though? Portals. Anything can fall through a portal. Metal, beacons, whole ass alien babies, other gods. In fact, if you do wanna tie in the Fjord theory, then how many times in media have we discovered that our hero was an alien who fell/was sent through a portal down onto our world? Off the top of my head I can think of Doctor Who, She-Ra & the Princesses of Power, Dragon Ball Z, Megamind, Superman. I’m honestly a little sick of it but the trope is already there to fit in with that theory, and again, it allows for way more diversity than Rudinis just being a decaying body.
The mental image of level 20 Caduceus decaying away the fucking moon tho??? Sick as hell
Anyway yeah I think that might be all you have to say. It’s a really interesting video and it’s starting up really good conversations but it’s not necessarily as enlightening as people are making it out to be? At least to me. I’m so used to getting presented with opinions that an hour’s worth of pure information is like. Unsettling.
Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it/can’t find it. It’s incredibly well-produced, so enjoy.

Western social media has no respect for Japanese online artists - and it’s killing online art
The visual arts have evolved to suit the most popular medium of each era. In nowadays’ case, the internet is the go-to method of sharing the fruits of one’s labour). However, as stated in that tweet thread of mine you can see if you scroll down a bit (assuming you’re viewing this post on chariot313.tumblr.com) different cultures have different attitudes towards how their customers react to their products. This include you know what fuck the formalities, I’ll just say it: The exclusively western concept of someone seeing something they like online and hitting the share button to stimulate the “Haha, upvotes go ‘brrr’!” dopamine in their smooth-ass lizard brain will be the death of online Japanese artists. Or rather, it has been already, and you would know that if you’ve ever seen an artist’s Twitter bio be in mostly Japanese save for one sentence in English; “Reprint is prohibited.”.
If you want to hear me rationalize the absurd claim I just made, feel free to click the “Keep reading” button. Otherwise, turn back now and save yourself from me possibly wasting your time.
Alright, you’ve chosen to stick with me. Just remember, you asked for this.
Introduction
Social media as a whole is based around sharing (posting, uploading, submitting, tweeting, blogging, streaming etc.) and other’s reactions to what one has shared (views, likes, subscribers, favorites, followers, upvotes, retweets, reblogs, crossposts, etc.).
However, miscommunication and culture shock due to language barriers and cultural differences is one of the many factors that can negatively affect one’s experience on social media. For example, the Japanese artist community, active on sites such as Twitter, Pixiv, NicoNico Seiga, FC2 blogs, etc.. Twitter is mostly inhabited by English-speaking users. Here in the west, our main motive for sharing something on social media (such as art) is for fame and recognition. However, over in the East, most online artists only upload their works to the internet for personal use. I’m not saying one cultural attitude towards sharing art is better than one another, but when these two worldviews collide, the culture shock can negatively affect the careers of artists who are unaware of the other culture’s differing views on sharing art.
So, I’ve listed numerous social media platforms below and I’m going to elaborate on how each of them contributes to the alienation and discouragement of Japanese artists.
DO NOT WITCH-HUNT OR HARASS THE CULPRITS I’VE LISTED AS EXAMPLES; THEY ONLY SERVE TO BACK UP MY ARGUMENT
Twitter
Go into the twitter search bar and type in the name of an anime character (usually female). What do you find? Most likely an account named after said character that does nothing but post unsourced fan art of said character with cheesy “in-character” captions on them.
Exhibit A [NSFW]
Exhibit B [NSFW]
Exhibit C [very NSFW]
Aside from that, Twitter isn’t that bad in this regard, as a lot of the art that gets stolen is originally uploaded to Twitter anyway. But I’m just getting started.
Wattpad
Ah yes, Wattpad. One of the “trinity” of fan fiction communities (the others being fanfiction.net and AO³), featuring many different stories with varying degrees of readability. The problem is the option to add a picture to adorn your fanfiction, at which point most of the authors google “<fanfic subject> fan art” and use something from there without considering the repercussions. This causes Wattpad to be one of the top results when reverse image searching to find the source of some fan art, aside from another site I’ll mention later on...
Reddit
There’s a subreddit I often browse called r/ChurchOfJirou, a community for sharing anything relating to the character Kyouka from My Hero Academia (I mean come on, she’s like the cutest thing ever). A lot of the posts on that sub are sharing fan art of the aforementioned character. One of the rules in the sidebar is “always include the source in the title or the comments”. And most of the submissions make good on that rule. However, a lot of the posts are from Japanese artists on Twitter or Pixiv, and following the source link leads you to find the artist’s bio, which usually has something along the lines of “don’t repost my work”. And what’s more, the biggest offenders (of submitting art to the sub without OP’s permission) were the moderators of the subreddit. You know, the ones who are supposed to be enforcing the rules? I even got so fed up that I called it out, to which one of the mods replied,
“It doesn’t really make a difference, does it?”
Luckily, not all subreddits are like this. For example, other MHA-related subs like r/BokuNoShipAcademia or r/ChurchOfMinaAshido have moderators that are more considerate of artists’ wishes. Overall, Reddit is usually a hit-or-miss when it comes to this kind of thing. At best, you’ve got subs like the two I just mentioned which make sure to respect artists, and at worst you’ve got people trying (and failing) to edit out watermarks. Also, not to self-promote, but this tweet of mine represents this situation pretty well:
Imgur
Imgur isn’t that bad compared to the rest of these, but it’s a common one that people link to when asked for the source of whatever they’ve shared on Twitter or Reddit or whatever.
Amino Apps
Amino Apps is a strange case. I don’t know much about it since I’ve never used it, but from what I do know it seems similar to Reddit in that there are numerous communities for different niches. That said, judging from the way it clogs up Google image search results, I doubt OC art is posted there often.
YouTube
Now, you may be thinking, “How does a video site rip off others’ art?”. The answer is uploads of soundtracks. Look for any OST from a video game or anime on YouTube and the picture used for the video will likely be some fan art by a Japanese Pixiv artist, usually one that forbids reposts of their work. Not only that, but if the uploader did bother to add the source in the description, it’s usually not even a link to the actual source, more likely a link to Zerochan or Pinterest or something. Now take into account that some of these videos get millions of views. Imagine working hard on something, and some numbnuts takes it, slaps some music onto it, uploads it to YouTube, and gets millions of views while you get next to nothing in comparison.
Exhibit A
Exhibit B (re-upload; original had nearly 40 million views before it was copyright claimed)
Exhibit C
and many many others
Pinterest
Alright, this is the big one. When Pinterest isn’t giving recipes or wardrobe ideas to suburban white moms, it’s clogging up Google reverse image search, punishing anyone who just wanted to find the source of some cute fan art. I feel like this meme by ZebitasMartinexSi on Facebook sums it up:
For example, this piece of Legend of Zelda art by Twitter artist @_nomeri_ (I’ll just link to it, since it would be hypocritical of me to embed the image even though @_nomeri_s bio warns people not to repost their art). Good art, right? Well, if you right-click and hit “Search Google for image”...
...yeah. Pinterest is a plague. It thrives on theft. Even worse is when someone will post fan art on Twitter/Tumblr/Reddit/etc. and have the nerve to say “IDK the source I found it on Pinterest ^_^”. Or worse yet, they link to Pinterest saying it’s the source.
Instagram
While many other sites rag on Instagram for its reposting of memes, it’s no better when it comes to reposting fan art, especially from Pixiv. I’ve seen lots of stolen pieces with fan fictions written in the description. Personally, if I were an artist, I’d rethink my career choice if I saw my art reposted on Instagram with a half-assed fanfic under it, so I don’t blame Japanese artists who close their Pixiv accounts after seeing that. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to prevent it from happening in the first place.
DeviantArt
DeviantArt is more “renowned” across the web for its niche circles of bizarre fetish art, but in its defence, there are some legitimately good pieces on there. If you do find a good one though, try checking to see if all of the uploader’s pieces have a similar overall art style, because if not, that’s a sure sign of someone passing off some Pixiv user’s art as their own, which is unfortunately fairly common on DeviantArt.
9Gag
Not a whole lot to say about 9Gag. I mean, it does contribute to reposting of art, but nothing really separates it from the others on this list, aside from its watermarks. At least the watermark gives away the fact that something was reposted.
Know Your Meme
You know that Zelda pic by @_nomeri_ I was talking about earlier? Well, to add insult to injury, it became an object-labelling meme.
Imagine putting hours into something and politely asking others not to repost it, only to find that some nincompoops on r/DankMemes made it into an object-labelling meme.
But this isn’t KYM’s fault, per se. Know Your Meme only documents memes; they do not create them. However, as someone who regularly browses the Know Your Meme image galleries, I can say that the image gallery has essentially become Know Your Fan Art (unlawfully reposted fan art, that is).
Redbubble
There’s an NSFW artist I follow on Twitter by the name of Nico-Mo. A while ago, his Pixiv account was suspended, and there were numerous pictures on there that he had not uploaded to his Twitter or DeviantArt, so I found a mirror of one of those pieces on Gelbooru and reverse-image searched in hopes of finding it on his Twitter. No such luck. What came up instead was a .png of the piece made into a sticker being sold on Redbubble. In fact, that’s one of the major reasons why artists disapprove of their art being reposted, as it may find its way onto a sticker or a T-shirt being sold as merch without the original artist giving consent nor the artist receiving so much as a single nickel.
Facebook
Surprisingly, I think Facebook is one of the least offending sites on this list. Still worth mentioning, though.
Funnyjunk
Like Imgur, Funnyjunk isn’t that bad compared to some of the rest of these, but this exchange in the comments of a repost of an MHA artist that deleted their account (not hard to see why considering people straight-up ignored the big-ass watermark at the bottom) is proof enough of western social media’s flippant attitude towards ruining online artists’ careers.
Aggregator imageboards such as Yande.re, Konachan, Danbooru, Gelbooru, Rule34, SankakuComplex, Zerochan, etc.
I don’t think I need to explain these. But like Imgur, these are what most people link to when asked for source instead of bothering to find the original post.
We Heart It
I don’t know much about “We Heart It”, but it seems to be a “Pinterest Lite” considering it clogs up image search almost as much as Pinterest does.
iFunny
Basically the same as 9Gag, in the sense that its watermarks are a dead giveaway.

4chan
I’m not sure if 4chan really “counts” among these, as it’s a chat board where nearly everything is impermanent anyway. However, I was once on an NSFW subreddit where one submitter used a 4chan thread to get Patreon-exclusive material from an artist to upload to the sub (even though one of the rules of the sub was “no paywall content”), so that alone earns 4chan its spot on this list.
Tumblr
Yes, not even Tumblr is innocent. Although I’m sure you knew that. Similar to what I said about Twitter, look up any blog named after a fictional character and it’ll likely be chock-full of unsourced fan art.
“Why is this even important?”
Because if an artist sees that their work is being reposted, depending on the artist, they may delete the original post when they wouldn’t have to if people had just respected their wishes. Now, if an artist wants their works gone from the internet for other personal reasons, that’s up to them and we should respect them for it. But artists taking down their works due to mass reposting is 100% preventable, which is why it’s sad. If you don’t respect an artist, they won’t create art. Simple as that.
“Why do you care so much?”
Eh, I’m just weird like that. It just ticks me off when anything online, whether it be art, or a video, or whatever, is lost. In my opinion, nothing hurts more than clicking a Pixiv link on an imageboard and being greeted with “The work was deleted or the ID does not exist.”.
“But lots of western artists forbid reposting of their art too!”
Indeed, that is correct. But while many artists of every nationality and culture frown upon reproduction of their work, it seems only western social media is responsible for reposting art in the first place. I mean, why else do you think Japanese artists are saying “Reprint is prohibited” in English when the rest of their bio is in Japanese? Because English-speakers are the ones reposting.
“But exposure can help an artist!”
Yeah, that’s true...
...but “exposure” doesn’t mean much if those “exposed” to one’s work don’t know or care who it came from.
And if you need even more reasons, look no further than these posts about the same topic by other blogs:
https://cranberrywitch.tumblr.com/post/143456002228/stop-reposting-art-from-japanese-artists

also, not to self-promote but I made a thread on Twitter on this topic about a month ago that you can check out here.
That’s all.

Apparently this was the Philadelphia Pride March, on Sunday June 2.
Demonstrators stood in front of a drumline advancing toward the city’s "Gayborhood," a neighborhood which features rainbow signs and LGBT-owned businesses. The pro-Palestine protesters held banners opposing the march and denouncing Israel’s actions in its war against Hamas, according to videos on social media.
In one video, some Pride marchers can be seen arguing with the pro-Palestine demonstrators, appearing frustrated by their presence.
One pro-Palestine protester held a Pride flag overwritten with “No Pride in Genocide” and a red handprint while another banner linked a genocide in Sudan with conflicts in Palestine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to footage.
Another protester held up a sign reading, “Long Live the Intifada.” The demonstrators also recited pro-Palestine chants, shouting, “PPP, KKK, IOF are all the same,” referring to the Ku Klux Klan and Israel Defense Forces. It is unclear what the “PPP” chant referred to.
I am guessing that it stands for Philly Pride Parade. I... don't know how that would track, though.
Looks like the protest was from Queers 4 Palestine Philly, which posted a statement on Instagram extending "our solidarity to all those resisting colonial genocide around the world."
"From Palestine to Sudan to the DRC to Ayiti, we call on queer people of conscience to ignite a global intifada against colonizers and capitalists who seek to use our identities, our beauty, our brilliance as justification for unimaginable violence. We reject all celebrations of pride if they are not grounded in the struggle to end genocide. We write this anti-pride statement as an honoring of the history of queer militant struggle against imperialism, outlined in the STAR Manifesto: ‘we are; a part of the REVOLUTIONARIES armies fighting against the system. POWER TO THE PEOPLE’"
We can't have queer pride now?
We're in a country where far-right fundamentalist groups are working overtime to make it impossible for us to get an education. To get medical care. To have bodily autonomy. To fucking exist.
And instead of recognizing our solidarity and similarity with the queer people of Gaza. Boosting their voices and experiences. And talking about the fact that they live under a far-right fundamentalist group that (unlike Trump, at least so far) DID manage to overthrow its government and rule Gaza, if not all of Palestine, as a dictatorship....
We're. Uhh. Let me check my notes.
Completely silencing everyone IN Gaza. Doubly so for the queer Palestinians there, who already live without free speech and freedom of assembly and deserve actual outreach and solidarity as queer people.
Captioning our anti-pride statements with, "QUEER AS IN D34TH 2 AMERIKA. QUEER AS IN D34TH TO ISRAEL. QUEER AS IN OFF THE PIGS. LONG LIVE THE QUEER INTIFADA."
And chanting, "Now, now, now, now: Burn Israel to the ground."
If anybody is wondering why OP would call these protesters "antisemites" when they're clearly pro-Palestinian, not anti-Semitic, let me put it in a nutshell:
The population of Israel is 21% Arab Palestinians. Calling for it to be burned to the ground is not pro-Palestinian.
Half the Jews on earth live in Israel, and it is their indigenous homeland. Calling for it to be burned to the ground is antisemitic.
Brenda Fucking Howard, The Very Jewish Bi Poly Leather Mother Of Pride, is spinning in her goddamn GRAVE at this bullshit.
(Comparing the Philly Pride Parade to the KKK also seems wildly fucking cissexist and heterosexist, no matter who says it.)
Pride parade blocked by antisemites
#queers 4 pride philly is also apparently involved in the Philadelphia dyke march now#so i fully expect it to ban the Jewish rainbow flag just like Chicago did#anyway good luck out there everybody

Maladaptive Daydreaming: Tic Toc Breakdown
A recent post on Tic Tok got some attention. I’ve transcribed the videos here to make some comments on them and provide some additional information. Here are the relevant bits, full transcription below.
“Maladaptive Daydreaming is when you daydream so intensely that you talk to yourself or you act out scenarios by yourself. It's not like psychosis, you're not seeing things, it's daydreaming out loud. Like you're letting your daydream out. And some people have severe maladaptive daydreaming, that's when they do those things in public and kinda don't realize they're doing it.”
MD is not “daydreaming out loud”, movement is not even a requirement. It is very common among us, however, about 21% of MDers don’t have any movement associated with their daydreaming behavior. Severe MD is when more than one area of life functioning is impaired by clinically significant distress or dysfunction stemming from the daydreaming behavior. It makes no difference if it happens publicly or if the MDer realizes they are doing it. MD is not like psychosis, she’s on point there.
“Maladaptive Daydreaming, itself, is not a disorder but it is a trait of quite a few different mental disorders and could be a trait of someone on the spectrum. But there are creative and healthy ways to deal with this… if you make characters and story lines in your head cosplay them. Even if you put it on private and it's just for you turning what you've created into something tangible. People like this are so creative, so you guys are good at writing, could do scripts, skits, like TV shows, plays, like novels, incredible things!”
A little more murky. MD is not an officially recognized disorder, this is true. It will take many more years of study to gather enough evidence that MD is a unique disorder, if, indeed, it is. MD researchers are pursuing MD as a possible disorder in their studies and have developed reliable measures for it, here is a link to the MD [proposed] diagnostic criteria.
MD is a construct that stands alone, though it may be closely related to other constructs. Excessive or vivid daydreaming is a trait found in many disorders, many of these are not MD. This seems to be a matter of not distinguishing other forms of fantasy from MD.
There is not, yet, any research on MDs relationship to ASD. If they experience MD at higher rates than the general population is unknown.
As for the ‘healthy ways to deal’, recent research suggests that MDers are less creative than both normal daydreamers and non-disordered immersive daydreamers. This is because we don’t make anything from our fantasies in reality. Giving yourself a creative outlet is good advice, even, as she says, if you never share it, the act of making fantasies tangible is a good way to engage in reality in a safe and artistic way. I do think there is an underlying misconception here though; that MDers are naturally good story tellers. That’s just not how MD works, fantasies do not play out like readable scripts, they are often repetitive and derivative and impossible to make sense of or turn into anything readable.
Writing is a wonderful skill, and an absolutely accessible one. If writing interests you, or if you just want to get things out of your head, or if you think it will be therapeutic, for any reason! Do it! Don’t be upset if you suck at first because your’e “supposed to be a naturally good story teller”, you’re not, and sucking at something is just the first step to being kinda good at something, keep at it.
“So, it's not considered a disorder but there is like the lighter form of it... just when you're by yourself sometimes when you're bored, you're not doing anything, you just start imagining things, and do it out loud. And then there's the severe which can be unhealthy because some people create like whole fictitious worlds and characters that they form friendships with and fall in love with and they would rather spend their time by themselves, like, locked up in their room or their house than actually go out and interact with real people in the real world. And that is when it can get tied in with OCD, but it's not a disorder that's in the DSM.”
I think what the underlying problem in these videos is that OP doesn’t seem to be making a distinction between IMers and MDers. IM is not the “light form” of MD. Maladaptive Daydreamers are a subset of Immersive Daydreamers. Immersive daydreaming is not pathological. MD is always, in every case, unhealthy or negative for the daydreamer in some way. That is the definition of MD. If it is not then that person is not an MDer. And, again, the ‘out loud’ part is not true for many. She does tap into some reasons for MD distress/dysfunction, preferring fantasy to real world responsibilities (being ‘locked up in their room’) is a common experience for MDers.
Research does show a link with OCD, though it’s unclear if MD is (in at least some cases) an OCD spectrum disorder. It is likely a behavioral addiction and is almost certainly a disordered form of dissociative absorption. She’s not wrong here, just making OCD sound a little more at the forefront than it might actually be.
“I went about those first videos, I feel like, completely wrong because maladaptive daydreaming isn't a healthy thing to do and I went about it in a way of not wanting people who did this to call themselves weird. Because if you are the type of person that mouths and gestures in front of people they're already going to do that for you.”
Her final video makes it more clear that she was trying to be more reassuring than informative and perhaps didn’t present what she had to say in a way that was appropriate. She just didn’t want MDers to get down on themselves, so, thanks for that.
Full transcriptions below:
Video 1: If you do this now you know it has a name.
So I'm willing to bet that a lot of you never heard of this and a lot of you might do this so I wanted to talk about it so you'll know you aren't that weird. I mean, just, you're not weird. So I've done this thing my whole life that I thought everybody did until about two or three years ago when I started asking people that I was very very comfortable with, like, do you do this and they were all like "No?"
And that thing is Maladaptive Daydreaming. So it is going to sound really weird for the people who don't do this but Maladaptive Daydreaming is when you daydream so intensely that you like talk to yourself or you act out scenarios by yourself. It's not like psychosis, you're not seeing things, it's daydreaming out loud. Like you're letting your daydream out. And some people have severe maladaptive daydreaming, that's when they do those things in public and kinda don't realize they're doing it. But now, if you do that, now you know that it has a name and it's not weird, you're just creative. It's cool.
Video 2: Maladaptive Daydreaming again
So let's talk more about Maladaptive Daydreaming because I never thought that so many people would say that they do this and it's really cool because now you guys know you aren't alone and it has a name.
So Maladaptive Daydreaming, itself, is not a disorder but it is a trait of quite a few different mental disorders and, I found out in the comments, could be a trait of someone on the spectrum. But there are creative and healthy ways to deal with this or like find a way to make, what I would believe would be really cool is to make it tangible, right? So, this [Tictok?] is a wonderful outlet for that, if you make characters and story lines in your head cosplay them. Even if you put it on private and it's just for you turning what you've created into something tangible. People like this are so creative, so you guys are good at writing, could do scripts, skits, like TV shows, plays, like novels, incredible things!
Video 3: Pt2 Still doesn't mean you're weird.
I wanted to do a little more about Maladaptive Daydreaming because there's actually a bunch more to it than what I could get out in the last video and it can get to an unhealthy place. So, it's not considered a disorder but there is like the lighter form of it, which is like what I would do like when, just when you're by yourself sometimes when you're like bored, you're not doing anything, you just start imagining things, and do it out loud.
And then there's the severe which can be unhealthy because some people create like whole fictitious worlds and characters that they form friendships with and fall in love with and they would rather spend their time by themselves, like, locked up in their room or their house than like actually go out and interact with real people in the real world. And that is when it can get tied in with OCD, but it's not a disorder that's in the DSM so, I don't know, if you want to know more let me know.
Video 4:Pt 3 I'm sorry
So I'm doing thing backwards because I should have made the captions in my maladaptive daydreaming videos, like, not that. Like, I went about those first videos, I feel like, completely wrong because, it's, maladaptive daydreaming isn't a healthy thing to do and I just went about it in a way of not wanting people who did this to call themselves weird. Because if you are the type of person that mouths and gestures in front of people they're already going to do that for you. And I, so I went about it wrong, it's not that you're weird but it isn't a healthy thing to do and if it's to a point, guys, where, like, you would rather live in this place that you've created it may be tied in with OCD, which is just like that need to have things a certain way that you would rather live in this place that you've created. If your parents aren't understanding this YouTube it, there's lots of stuff on there guys

Hey all, I’ve expanded to wordpress! And unlike the posts on here, I’m making sure all posts on my wordpress are fully captioned (I’m talking about every single picture!). The first two posts were ‘get to know the blogger’, an intro and my favorite makeup of the days from last year. My first spoonie post was about hair care for post-op care and in between showers. The one linked above is about tools making makeup more accessible (and features a video of the creator of the Vamp Stamp using it with her limited hand mobility that I think was very important for people to see). The makeup tools one got pretty long so I actually divided it into two posts, part two will be about makeup brushes.

OKAY I FUCKING FOUND IT. She is NOT in fact a participant in the not-actually-a-recipe-video thing OP just didn't link it
the video caption says "full deets on the blog as always"; her tiktok profile has a link to said blog; and this specific recipe on said blog was the FIRST link i found when i searched "moribyan lemon cake". (the other stuff was back verification in case it wasn't actually hers and i'd stumbled upon the most coincidence ever lol.) but in any case — HERE ARE THE PROPORTIONS!! Conversion from US English and from cups to metric is mine, using the 'legal' US cup (240 ml) as a base — y tf do i have to even SAY that WHY DO YOU HAVE THREE DIFFERENT CUP MEASUREMENTS — so. yeah. fellow non-USians, worry not. i got ur back.
(As an aside: I started working on this when your commiseration, alventure, was only 34 minutes old. what the fuck.)
Dry Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup | 420ml | 220g all-purpose flour (plain flour)
1 tsp baking powder (baking soda to cream of tartar ratio 1:3)
1/2 tsp baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
1/2 tsp salt
3.2 package | 224g lemon instant pudding (had to search for this) (here it is at tesco for cheaper) (here's an imperfect substitution for a different product of the same name; it's ridiculous that this is a core ingredient that we're not even told substitutions for in the first place!!) (i am ASSUMING that "package" means "sachet" and not "box", here, because it WAS NOT SPECIFIED)
1 1/4 cup | 300ml | 210g white granulated sugar
Wet Ingredients:
3 large eggs
1/2 cup | 120ml vegetable oil
1 cup | 240ml sour cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup | 60ml lemon juice
2 Tbsp lemon zest
NOTE: Feel free to add in anything else you like into the cake. Consider incorporating poppy seeds or blueberries for added texture and flavor complexity.
The Glaze:
2 cups | 480ml confectioners sugar (icing sugar)
3 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°F / 180°C / Gas Mark 4.
To a large mixing bowl, add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and lemon instant pudding. This is your dry mix. Mix well.
To another bowl, add the sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, sour cream, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and lemon zest. This is your wet mix. Beat together until smooth.
Now add the dry mix to the wet. Combine together until you have a batter.
Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and transfer the batter.
Bake for 55 minutes to 1 hour until a toothpick comes out clean in the center.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about an hour before glazing.
In a bowl, combine confectioners sugar with lemon juice and milk to create a glaze.
Once the cake is cooled, add the glaze on top, adding as little or as much as you'd like.
Let the frosting set for 5 minutes, then slice and enjoy!

hi! sorry to bother you, but im a follower of your twitter bot @fisk_bot (i love the content a lot its very good) and i am trying to make a bot myself. if u wouldnt mind sharing, how did you make the bot tweet pictures? i just wanna make a picture bot for a character i like. thanks
ain’t botherin me at all dogg i’ve been meaning to make a proper tutorial for a while now anyway! (fisk <3s you too. they loave you THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS mutch!)
here’s the Officially Sanctioned Fiskbot Guide To Picture Bots (Bonus General Twitter Bot Tips Included)
first of all some notes:
i use twittbot.net for my bots. this method will work totally fine on other ones (it’s not based around twittbot, it’s based around how twitter itself works), i only mention it so people who wanna make bots but don’t know what site to use can know my own preference
this also works with videos! (i mean, the ones uploaded directly to & hosted on twitter. videos from youtube or instagram you just have to... add the youtube or instagram link)
host the image on the bot you want the pictures to show up on. this method works no matter what account originally posted the image, BUT if that account deletes the post or goes private no one will be able to see the image, so it’s better just as insurance to post it on your own account
a little technical note is that the reason you can’t see the images anymore once the person who posted the images deletes/goes private is because the account who posts the image is the one who “hosts” the image, which is easier to see when you try and add a video-- the op will be listed as whoever you linked the video from, not the account that just posted it. for example, i took the link for the [[HORCE]] video from the bot for my groupchat, and you can see the op is listed as “furbyskinnerbot” even when it’s posted on fiskbot
if you can’t get to a computer, you can get pic.twitter links from notifications on mobile, but you can’t copy and paste them and will have to type em all out manually
bonus twitter bot tip: fill up the bot with LOTS of tweets, it helps prevent repetition, ensures your bot will post on time and twitter blocking your bot from posting something because it tried to tweet something it already had fairly recently (twitter doesn’t like double-tweeting). fiskbot’s tweetbank has 250 tweets in it right now and it consistently posts on schedule! you may not need THAT many to get it to work, but lots is never bad with twittbots. if you don’t care about posting on schedule, then you can fill it up however you wanna
bonus twittbot-specific tip: go to settings and switch the second option, “order,” from “order of registration” to “random”. it mixes the tweets up and makes it less likely that your bot will post several similar tweets in a row, if you’re like me and have an idea for a tweet, put it in, then have... a related idea and add that one in right after...
version 1: a photo tweet with a caption
personally i prefer posting my photos with captions just for the sake of getting the pic.twitter link, because it’s a lot easier, BUT you don’t have to. here’s how you can get it
step 1: right click on the caption and hit inspect element (caption doesn’t need to be highlighted)
step 2: what the hell is this nonsense! well it’s where you’re getting your link, as soon as you hit inspect element (if you do so ON THE CAPTION TEXT) you’ll immediately be brought here, which is where you gotta be! expand the dropdown
step 3: you see that pic.twitter link? YOINK THAT SHIT and put it in your bot. you can have it tweet just the photo, or you can add a caption-- but make sure you put the link at the END of the tweet if it has a caption, i dunno if putting it before the tweet will fuck it up or not but it’s probably better not to take any chances
version 2: if the photo has no caption
while i DO prefer getting my links when there are captions... sometimes captions just don’t improve the funny. sometimes captions are unnecessary. also, sometimes you’re going against my advice and grabbing the link from an account that isn’t yours, and that account posted the image without a caption. if any of those apply here’s how to get the link from uncaptioned photos
step 1: so, there’s a bit of technical trivia to go along with this one; twitter USED to have the pic.twitter links just... IN the tweet, perfectly visible. this was taken away years ago because it occupied about 20 of the 140 characters and twitter finally realized that occupying that much space was kinda bullshit, so they made the pic.twitter links not occupy any required characters... AND made them hidden. they aren’t gone, they’re actually still technically in the captions, they’re just not visible. so, if you right click roughly around the area where a tweet caption WOULD be, you’ll still end up at “js-tweet-text-container”!
step 2: ... but because it’s invisible it’s also easy to miss. i missed. luckily though it’s still only a few clicks away and you’re looking for the same thing you need to find for a captioned tweet
and there you go! like i said before it’ll work with both photos and videos which is pretty sweet
#anon#asks#babbage tutorial#i get asked this/see people asking about it a lot#i have no issue explaining it but i figure it'll be easier if i can just send them a link and they'll have all the info they need#plus that way i won't end up forgetting something important#since i'm used to the process by now and know what to look for when *i* do it

May I ask your opinion? Someone reblogged a comic I made for one of my otps, but they somehow deleted my description where I talk about my otp as well as the final bonus panel that has my url written on it, and they have simply reblogged it with "MY BROTP" and tagging it #perfect (obviously it wasn't perfect if they deleted that last panel). This isn't a repost, it's still a reblog, but I don't know if I should confront them or just let it be, especially since people are liking the new version.
“Don’t delete OP’s captions” should be common tumblr etiquette, but some people may just genuinely not know. This person sounds like they may know though and just not care. Deleting a description that clearly mentions “this is my otp” and adding “BROTP” seems like it’s done on purpose because that’s just rude (similar behavior to a reposter kinda). That or that person is very very oblivious to common internet etiquette.
If I were you and if you feel like you want to, it can’t hurt to send them a PM. Just tell them something like “hey I noticed that you deleted the final panel of my comic and my description, so it makes my comic look incomplete to others and some people are reblogging that version. Would you please delete your reblog where you did that, or at least reblog the original post without deleting anything?” They can add any additional comments (like “MY BROTP”) in the tags only. They obviously know how to tag since they tagged it as “#perfect.”
For how you word your message, it kinda depends on this person. If they seem like they didn’t do it on purpose, be polite. If you have reason to believe they did this intentionally, like they knew what they were doing, be more assertive (but still polite, don’t be insulting them or anything haha).
Then going from there, depends on their response. If they refuse to delete it, let it be. Next time maybe add a “do not delete my captions” disclaimer in bold onto your cmomics, in case any other people like them encounter your art. You shouldn’t have to add a disclaimer like that but some people suck D:Also if the person responds rudely, then block them so they can’t do this to you again in the future.
Sorry that happened to you. D: Once I shared a youtube video of a figure skater, and spam p0rn blogs got a hold of it and were deleting my caption and reblogging it with links. Felt so helpless. But another actual person knowingly deleting your comment and adding their own... that’s gotta be really frustrating. Either they’re young and just don’t know, or they know and don’t care. I hope it’s the former in your case!
