Fic Writer 20 Questions
Tagged yet again by @valkeakuulas 👀
Adding a small "brekky", because 20 questions may also mean quite a lengthy post.
1.) How many works do you have on ao3? Current count is 39, but soon they're gonna be 40. 👀
2.) What’s your ao3 word count? Atm it's sitting at 295,861
3.) What fandoms do you write for? Whatever I may be hyperfixating hard enough on in that moment. Right now, the hyperfixation-meter is stuck on Warframe, more precisely on the incoming "Warframe: 1999" update.
4.) What are your top five fics by kudos? - Stupid Mistakes (94), Palia fic - Unwanted Visitor (84), Stardew Valley fic - Sour Dreams (47), Palia fic - Idiot Sandwich (37), Palia fic - Born Again (21), Warframe fic
5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?! I do! Because it's both a fun and heartwarming :D
6.) What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I think the angstiest one in my AO3 so far may be "The Curse Of Knowing".
7.) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? hard to say, because I very much like happy endings, so most of my fics end like that. 🥺
8.) Do you get hate on fics? Hasn't happened yet, and I also make myself sure to enable comment moderation before posting, so any "hater", troll, flamer, whatever would be denied attention on sight.
9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind? I tried (again) in very recent times and feel like I failed miserably both times. 😅
10.) Do you write cross overs? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I wrote at least one crossover fic for Iron Leaguer/Megaman X eons ago, but that's all I could think of (and the fic is maybeburied somewhere in my Tumblr, not AO3).
11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Oh yeah, happened once and (again) eons ago. I remember it was a parody/satire fic towards the so-called OCs of a serial art thief. They just grabbed it, switched some words around, greatly butchered the already half-butchered English, and reposted in their own Tumblr as if it was their own work. 😂
12.) Have you ever had a fic translated? Only when I was moving my baby steps into both writing fics and (re)learning English. I needed someone to translate from Pasta. 😔
13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Yes! I think it was 2-3 fics in total with @evol-astraea, back when we were severely drowning in Iron Leaguer Hyperfixation Pond™
14.) What’s your all time favourite ship? First give me at least ONE series/game/whatever to pick, bruh! :°D
15.) What’s a WIP you’d like to finish, but doubt you ever will? There's this Transformers G1 fic that I never got around to finish. Started it +10 years ago, LibreOffice's page count for the WIP is currently sitting at 104, and I know I'm not even halfway done with the fic. What caused me to suddenly halt everything and never pick it up again is called "I was so focused on typing I think I had written 10-20 more pages when MS Word decided to suddenly crash on me and I lost everything because I never saved the progres once the whole time". 💀
16.) What are your writing strengths? I honestly have no clue. Maybe the fact that I post only works that I have completed?
17.) What are your writing weaknesses? I need to feel very motivated to start writing, and I need to keep that motivation up from start to finish, otherwise I won't get anything done. I also can't start two different stories simultaneously, otherwise I'll inevitably lose inspo for the one left on standby, making it harder for me to pick it up later on.
18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? It's fun! :D But watch out! :°D
19.) First fandom you wrote for? Either "Spirou & Fantasio" or "Transformers G1", both happened on that now cursed site called "DeviantArt".
20.) Favourite fic you’ve ever written? Hard to tell. Probably the very last one uploaded. 🤔
That's all! Tagging: @gaogaigar-the-king + @missanthropicprinciple

barbara gordon NOV 2023 fic awards
another installment of "fic awards," where I comb through every fic posted/updated in a character tag for a specific month and find my favorites! another month with less fics (under 250 posted for her this month! most of the time she gets 350-500 so this is extremely low) but I did of course find fics I adored:
bait and switch, by marquis (@tbcanary). 7.1k, M, dinahbabs. my summary: a retelling of birds of prey 1999, with the emphasis on tenderness, intimacy, and the slow connection of two women. my notes: by god. I literally have no words. this is the sort of fic that makes me ACHE. I already left two comments on this fic and I could probably leave a dozen more, but -- please please please read it. it's birds of prey as it should've been written, without chuck dixon misogynying all over the place. the intimacy of dinah being willing to die for babs without even knowing her name. genuinely this fic drives me crazy mwah love
&&
and you are a ruin, you want too much, by storm_warning. 1.8k, T, edbabs. my summary: babs cleans up edward's wounds. batman unburied. my notes: I don't normally ship these two, or even go here (I have not listened to this podcast) but I am genuinely a sucker for quasiplatonic kink so I adored this with every ounce of my soul. if that is not your cup of tea, though, this may not be the fic for you.
send me an ask for fic rec lists ++ to find a fic lost to the sands of time

tagged in '20 questions for fic writers' by the esteemed @verecunda — thank you very much!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
62.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
102,035.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
at the moment, I think Sharpe, Flight of the Heron, and Kidnapped are getting most of my attention? altho' there are of course quite a few others.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
you'd be my best friend, you'd be my lady (Hornblower)
sleep in it slowly (if you can) (Hornblower)
illuminating all, in time (Hornblower TV)
here in your arms is cured (Kidnapped)
as in a mirror dimly (The Mummy 1999)
...huh. that is not what I thought the top five were going to be. but then again, I think a lot of the work that I myself like better is both newer and more niche, so I guess that does make sense.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I typically respond to comments on fics I posted after April 2022, which is when I started replying to comments. not sure why that's my routine but either way it's what it is.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
hm, a lot of breaking left to do, perhaps, being as it's just solidly Horatio Hornblower Is Sorrowful right from one end to the other. I'd lean toward this one rather than any of what I've written on the theme of being lost in undeath, even though there are quite a few more of those (and better written ones to boot!), since I tend to end those with something calm and a little restful even in decay.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think that's probably got to go to Shaking Off Our Shadows, which is basically two thousand words to the effect of 'what if these two fellows from a very grim book full of disease and death and ruin and general misery had a really nice beach epilogue wherein Everything Was Fine.'
8. Do you get hate on fics?
eh, I've gotten a few weird comments on one, mostly people voicing their hatred for one of the characters it's about. I personally think it's all very silly to come to the doorstep of a fellow who likes to write about romantic dissection and say that a kiss exchanged with mutual interest but without previous discussion is 'fucked'. methinks the problem lies not with me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
...on occasion. not a great deal of it has actually made it into finished fic at present, mostly because I'm not very confident with specificity in those matters, and so it's more likely to be heavily metaphoricized (see above about the romantic dissection...)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
most of them are things that I'll draw about or merely ponder rather than writing, but a particularly silly one that I've actually gotten some words in on is Hornblower and Animorphs — look, if the Animorphs team is canonically at Trafalgar, I don't think I have a choice but to crack open a space to play with in the Age of Sail!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
as far as I know, no.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
a few of my RLS-based ones have been translated into Russian!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
sort of! when it comes to actually both writing in the same document, no, but the larger expanse of Flintlock Fortress is done in close collaboration with @dxppercxdxver, and we're discussing a great deal even if we're actually writing on separate parts of the story.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
I think when it comes to sheer years-long staying power, that badge has to go to Livesey/Trelawney.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I really would like to finish some of my earlier Treasure Island and Hornblower attempts, like the selkie au and the tattoo-sorcery story. I was definitely biting off more than I could chew plot-wise at the time and I'm more confident writing at length now, but I really don't have a ton of enthusiasm for the almost complete rewrites those stories would need to feel right to me, and so probably not.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I really do pride myself on my ability to Describe poetically and to spin an interesting sentence. enough of my fics are extended versions of things that I couldn't make work as a single drawing that that's become quite an important thing for me.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
plots, and overall forming a story to have a solid structure and not just be a vaguely interesting selection of scenes... and I'm definitely not very good at imitating authorial voice, even when I'm trying very hard to do so.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
like most everything, it's good when done with intention — I really wish I'd gotten quite good enough at Latin to do what I'd been intending and write some Hornblower fic entirely in Latin.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I'd guess Stand Still Stay Silent, altho' I never ended up finishing any of the stories I began, and that was long before I had such a thing as an ao3 account (or even my current file-keeping system,) so where that all ended up I've got no clue at all.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
well, I think it's got to be the wormsfic... I'm just beyond proud of it even in its currently unfinished state and I think it's excellent proof of the fact that I've actually grown as a writer over the last few years.
and I shall tag... @dxppercxdxver, @cedarboots, @baronetcoins, @kigiom, @bishakespeares, and @lacomandante, if you're interested?

20 Questions for Writers
Felt a little like rambling through some answers about writing and AO3. Feel free to play if you're up for it!
How many works do you have on AO3?
200 at the moment, though of those there are a few that are prompt challenge works because they were hardly enough to be considered a full story on their own.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
985,325 words and counting, which makes me want to pull the word counts from the various WIPs that haven't made it to AO3 yet but ♫ patience is a virtue ♫ (that I'm clearly struggling with at the moment).
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've written for the Hiddleston, Evans, Brühl, Mikkelsen fandoms - and have a few WIPs that haven't made it to the point of being posted yet but are in development. (And always am open to prompts though I haven't posted anything about the word prompt challenge in awhile... hmm)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
You've Only Just Arrived (actor!TWH) Unsettled (actor!TWH au) The Long Journey Home (TFATWS Baron Zemo/Sokovian reader/Bucky Barnes) A Turn of the Knife (Ransom Drysdale/ Knives Out prequel) Close Quarters (actor!TWH)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes. Nearly always and likely far too soon after they're posted. Comments are fantastic for learning what pieces of the work really resonated, or what needs to be amended going forward because it didn't land the way that was intended.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Where we've left off in Unsettled probably allows that story to claim the title (which arguably that story wins angstiest anyway), but standing alone I'd say there's a fair few oneshots that could qualify. If you consider snippets of What If, there's one from the LJH world that would win hands down, but I don't consider those snippets as full fics...
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Completed works - probably Lakeside or The Journalist (proper). Where we've left off in You've Only Just Arrived is setting us up for the happy ending that will inevitably occur.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
I've had a couple comments that stemmed more from misunderstanding than seemed grounded in hate. It was easily clarified and the issue remedied (at least for the first thing that springs to mind).
9. Do you write smut?
Yup.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Haven't had the opportunity yet, but never say never.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes. Quite a shitty feeling when your work is posted without your consent. Please don't do that.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
The Heart of a Villain (jaguar-villain!TWH)
14. What‘s your all-time favorite ship?
I very much enjoy creating [insert character here]/ reader (or original character) ships within various fandoms. My current favorite ship I'm working on isn't even posted yet, but head over heels for villain!Brühl. In terms of a ship I'll always love, though I haven't written for it, is Evelyn & Rick O'Connell from The Mummy (1999)/ The Mummy franchise.
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Never say never. I've had a few peter out from my attention being drawn elsewhere, but fully intend on going back and finishing out what I started.
16. What’re your writing strengths?
I'd estimate that when the dialogue flows it flows really well? When I reread that's what I tend to enjoy the most, along with the emotional connection to the characters. Then again, having lived in those worlds in order to write them... biased opinion. So very biased.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
It varies fic to fic honestly. Sometimes the scene doesn't want to be described and it's like pulling teeth to get anything in there. I'd classify the umpteen ongoing WIPs as a weakness as well. The urge to chase the other characters, the other story, and let the ones active/in progress languish... it's something I'd like to improve on, at least.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've used it as a storytelling element in a few works at this point. I tend towards including the translation in { brackets } for clarification - so long as the characters know the language they're speaking or overhearing. (And please please if you spot anything that's not correct I'm always open to amending the errors!)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
First ever isn't posted here, or to AO3 either. I doubt I'll ever pull the docs and notebooks together to transcribe the Backstreet Boys works - but I suppose never say never holds in that situation too. First that is here and AO3, after I gave myself permission to start writing again, is You've Only Just Arrived.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
Too difficult a question. There's too much of me in the words, in the characters. I love each of them for varying reasons.

Just left kudos and a comment on an SG1 Jack/Daniel AO3 fic from 1999, I'm sitting here speculating now how the author's life has turned out in the last 23 years....I was 33 when this was written and pregnant with my daughter from my 1st marriage, now they're 23, I'm on a 2nd turnaround with 5 stepkids and 6 grandchildren, retired and living my best life.
If you're old enough, what we're you doing in 1999????
Ooooh, and pop on your favourite 1999 gif!!

Wip tag game
Tagged by @imsupposedtobewritting for this wip tag game…. And first how dare you! (Affectionate) Yes I am shamed by the length of this list! I am adding a few bonus gifs just to break up the text blocks a bit.
Pro tip: If you want me to work on something listed below my muse really does respond to feedback/comments/gifs/meta posts/stimulation. Make of that what you will.
Family, Familia, ‘Ohana (911/H5O/SWAT, Buddie, McDanno, platonic Deacon/Hondo). I’ve got a chapter title for the next one—SNAFU—and the following one after that—FUBAR. That pretty much sums up a lot of things there. i’ve been working very non-linearly here and have a lot of the plot figured out as well as which beats to hit… now just the execution of said plan. Mostly the muse has been chewing on the penultimate chapter and final chapter a lot more than what is currently going on. I’ll make the muse behave eventually but it’s getting a break on this one since I updated just a little bit ago. (Don’t look at me like that Danno!)
A New Version of Foreplay, Chapter two/final chapter (911, Buddie) I really just have the smut to write and the muse hasn’t been playing ball here. It’ll happen eventually but just probably not this week. We know where we’re going here and all—Just need the Buck and Eddie part of my muse to cooperate.
Death Rebirth and the Jackal (Mass Effect Andromeda, The Mummy (1999 movie trilogy) with heavy influences from Moon Knight, American Gods and Egyptian history/mythology, MReyder). I’ve got this vaguely on the every month posting schedule rotation so expect a chapter a month—possibly more often depending on how much writing time I get (fall is getting overscheduled right into February so don’t hold your breath).
To Follow (Mass Effect all media types, MReyder, MShenko—sequel/alternative perspective of one-shot Seguir, Pre-Andromeda meeting/relationship). The muse has been chewing on the plot for this like a week old newspaper. The paper has gotten beyond soggy and I’m going to be cleaning up plot points for a bit but I’m starting to get a really clear picture of how to work things. Probably getting a new chapter in the next six weeks or so. Just need to get in the really angsty headspace first and have it not be stolen by Eddie Diaz.
Reinventing Scott (Mass Effect Andromeda, MReyder) ah my what-if-Cora-really-was-pissed-about-not-being-pathfinder fic and we took a left turn at Eos that ended up with Scott and Reyes running into each other much earlier. It was kinda on the back burner but i’ve been mulling over a few plot points the last two weeks so also prolly getting something in the next month or so but not on the official update rotation—yet.
Promise Me You Won’t Let Me (Wheel of Time, Cauthor). Is officially on the try-to-update monthly rotation. I want to finish this before the second season starts airing. If you’ve been reading and have watched the first season you know this is going to all end in tragedy and blow up in Rand’s and Mat’s face. Might possibly be the most painfully angst ridden thing I’ve written. I hope the show runners give me a reason to write a sequel of them pining angrily at each other from afar in the second season. Sorry Rand—there’s going to be a lot of whump in both Mat’s and your immediate future.
To Catch A Fallen Star (Teen Wolf and Stardust Mashup, Sterek and others) I seem to have caught a fusion/mashup vibe with Jackal and it continues here. Prologue is posted and I’m planning on monthly-ish updates. Have a pretty good roadmap worked out so it’s just a matter of having time and energy to stay on top of. I mean Stiles is Tristan and Derek’s Yvaine. What could go wrong? Oh yeah and Peter is totally Septimus while Scott is going to be Bernard.
Cousin Harvey (Moon Knight and Suits Crossover, Marvey, it’s complicated for Marc and Steven but it’s not sexual) Nothing yeeted yet as this is going to be a one-shot I s2g. I mean what are Marc and Steven doing in Nebraska? Harvey’s got the bail money. This is going to possibly be totally crack-y (What am I saying? It’s totally crack).
The Outlaw and the Cartel Boss (Mayans MC, Miguel/EZ, Angel/Adelita, Angel/Coco, Sentinel/Guide AU). I had this on the back burner because it’s long and when I do work on it it’s never usually on the NEXT chapter but on other things but my mood at work slid into Miguel’s headspace so now it’s gotten it’s running shoes back on. Roughly planning every-other-month to monthly updates until done as these chapters tend to be closer to FFO updates rather than 3-5k. I just can’t leave Sentinel/Guide AUs alone and Danny Pino and JD Pardo are just too damned pretty of men. Also KJ IS NOT DYING HERE! fwiw this is completely AU of the tv series (off the reservation so to speak) so if you want to read just pull up the wiki entries and you’ll be good to go. Don’t look so pleased with yourself Miguel *grumbles*
Firefighter Derek Series (linked one-shots, Teen Wolf, eventual Sterek). I’ve gotten a bit written on Papa Stillinski’s POV one shot so most likely will get this done sometime this fall. Also have a pretty clear view of Connie the Librarian’s one shot which will be on the shorter side. Expect these to randomly get yeeted if the muse gets in the mood. The Stiles and more of Derek’s POV ones the muse is doing a good impression of the witches from Macbeth with (double, double toill and trouble and all).
Pieces that are currently simmering on the back burner—meaning that I’m not considering them abandoned and do tweak/write a bit/plot about them. They’ll get done EVENTUALLY. I never put something out that I don’t plan on finishing even if it’s six or seven years later….again feed the muse people. A few of these got started for MReyder week and I hate to think that sort of deadline is what it might take to make me shove something out the door chapter-wise.
Mredyer stuff:
An Andromeda Tale (goes back and forth between actively worked on and back-burnered)
Andromeda 5-0
If I See You In My Dreams
The Marks We Leave On One Another (Gets worked on whenever the pissy part of my Reyes muse is in control. Requires rage to work on)
What Happens in Vegas… one-shot. Accidental Marriage. Modern AU. It’s… um half-done? give me another Mredyer week @radio-chatter and @quietborderline
Untitled Westworld Fic—what if Reyes was a Host? And um… yeah. Scott is TRAUMATIZED okay? Yes I have maybe 20k written….
Untitled MReyder firefighter AU. Well Scott’s a firefighter. Reyes is an undercover police officer. Things get interesting. Random scenes outlined/written. Yes it’s partly smut that’s written damnit
Mreyder medical AU for @radio-chatter you’ll get this eventually. I’ve got too many thoughts but they’re completely disorganized. Mostly Scott and Reyes need to sync their on call schedule so they can actually get some sleep.
What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? ah the holiday fic that I swear I’m going to finish every December and yet still haven’t quite finished it two years later. maybe this year is the year…..it’s… half-done?
Recurrence. Every time I re-read my favorite book of all time Dark Matter by Blake Crouch I work on this. Eventually will get done. I just can’t leave the idea to die. So it gets worked on once a year and gets about ten pages added which are never the actual NEXT chapter.
Mafia AU. I have this very clear picture of Scott sitting in a hospital waiting room, hasn’t slept in days, drinking terrible coffee at 3AM and trying not to notice how Reyes’ blood is still visible under his fingernails despite how much he’s scrubbed them. Reyes’ uncle shows up and it’s like being doused in an icy river how much he realizes he doesn’t know about Reyes’ life. Non-linear narrative. Scott is maybe a firefighter in this too or maybe he’s a cop—something public service. Reyes makes a decision to protect Scott which means he has to give up everything—but he’ll do it if it keeps Scott safe.
911 stuff
Buddie Rear Window—more idea than fully formed. Might be a spooky season fic might not. Depends on how hard this plot idea sticks around. Currently not actively being written. Buck is Jimmy Stewart. Eddie is Grace Kelly. Carla is totally Buck’s housekeeper. Athena is a very much not impressed Detective.
Sentinel Guide follow up one shots. Got ideas but not actively being worked on. May randomly get one shots yeeted out on this if the muse bites hard enough.
Might revisit the werewolf fic for a sequel for spooky season. Might just be more sexytimes one-shot.
SWAT
Deacon/Hondo side story/sequel to FFO. When this finally get’s written it’s going to be a tear jerker and deal with non-canon death of Deacon’s wife and the resulting fallout—grief, healing, love etc. This has been hanging around my brain for the better part of a year so it’ll eventually get written but not until FFO is done. Will be completely AU from the SWAT series at that point.
Edit: i totally forgot Bradley the Damned!!! Um yeah. It’s my Generation Kill Bradnate time bending immortal fic. Yeah. On the back burner because it tend to write it during spooky season. Prolly getting an update in the next two months?
Tagging the usual crowd with no pressure as always. @quietborderline @radio-chatter @tkwritesdumbassassins @elisela @outtoshatter @redhoodiskra @missanniewhimsy and anyone else who wants to play along.

👀☀♥🖊
Thank you so much @saltysaph !
👀 Do you use any words/phrases habitually
I know I repeat words, often close together, but those aren’t necessarily the same across my work. I do like to talk about horses and coffee. I’m unaware of phrases I repeat (though that doesn’t mean they aren’t there)
☀️ Has anyone ever left you a comment that has made your day? What did it say?
YES. I wrote an X Files fic back in like…1999 and I stumbled over it on my hard drive last year, so I posted it and someone commented in part “This would have made a great episode for the show.” and I still love reading that.
I have gotten a couple book reports on my long fic too, and I loved getting those because that particular commentor saw more going on than I’d realized I’d thrown down.
❤️ Who is your favorite character to write for and why
OMG Link in all his forms. I don’t know if I end up relating to him because he is who you play in the various games or I just project into him or a combination of both or what.
🖊 What is the most recent line you’ve written
At the time I got this? It was this:
He didn’t know what else to do, so he stepped off the platform and opened the paraglider.

A/N : Buckle up, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride ;)
Year 1999
It was another morning that awaited the Mayans MC and its members. The sun shone from the early hours only to get warmer by time. Marcus Alvarez’s routine was simple: wake up, have a cold shower and a coffee right before pulling his kutte over his shoulders and make his way to his Harley. While leaving his home, he felt the pressure under his boot switch and looked on the floor. There was an envelope, the only information on it being his name. Picking it up, he opened it and came across pictures along a message. His neutral features contorted to anger, jaw tightened and heavy sighing. He put the intel back inside the envelope and made his way to the club’s quarters.
Once he arrived at the clubhouse, he convoked everyone for an emergency meeting. “Javier is missing”, commented one of the members. “Good”, replied firmly Alvarez. They took place at their respective seats, the silence and cigarette smoke feeling the air. Alvarez took the envelope out and splattered the pictures all over the table. Bishop reached to the one closest to him and frowned. Letting the members acknowledge what was in front of them, Alvarez spoke at last. “I received these this morning. No name, no address, anonymous. Javier has been double crossing the club, filling his own pockets with the enemies.”
Some members shook their heads not believing their Vice-Presidente would do that. “You said it yourself, it’s anonymous. What if it’s trafficked?”, asked their Secretario. “We’ll have to sort it out. If it comes out it is indeed true, measures must be taken”, replied Alvarez to which everyone agreed. He quickly collected the intel and advised that the matter would not be further discussed until some investigation. “We’ll decide once we’ll have more information.” “Bishop talk to his lady. Try to find out if financially there has been an improvement. In the meantime, just act like nothing happened” The hammer smashed on the table, indication that the meeting was over.
Two weeks passed and the club discovered that Javier, their VP, was indeed mixed with the enemies. The vote was unanimous. The day came were they planned to bust him. After one of the club’s parties, Javier told the club he was needed at home earlier. The club used the opportunity to follow him to an abandoned barn, isolated in the desert. Kneeled on the ground, Alvarez and Bishop saw Javier greeting the club’s enemies. There was no more proof needed. The Mayans covered the entry and exit before striking and shooting. They put down the rivals and shot Javier in the leg before disarming him. Alvarez brought Javier by his shirt and punched him, “Traidor”.
“Marcus”, exclaimed Bishop and nodded at him to look around. What the club came across grossed them beyond words. Cages were splattered all around the barn, crying children occupying them. “Get this piece of shit out of my face”, spat Alvarez before turning to Bishop and helping him in opening the cages. The President gave the order to call the Prospect back with a van. Bishop was opening the last cage and slowly approached the child. The girl lifted her face at him, traces of dried tears on her face. “Are you taking us to heaven?”, she asked with a small voice. Bishop’s breath got stuck on his throat before shaking his head. “No but I will take you somewhere safe”, he said calmly while showing her his hand. Hesitant at first, the girl looked at him, a sparkle of hope crossing her eyes before accepting his hand. “I’m Bishop and you what’s your name?”, he asked. “Y/N”. He nodded and forced a smile on his face.
You were the last to leave the barn before you stopped on your tracks. You let go of his hand and fumbled on your pockets. You reached out for the stolen lighter and turned around, walking to the entry. It took you a few tries before actioning the lighter and threw it inside. You saw the barn slowly burn, the flames intensifying. You walked back to Bishop and took his hand. Looking up, you locked your gaze with his and a small smile formed on your lips. Even after everything you must have endured inside that place, Bishop was in awe when he saw your smile crossing your features. At that moment, Bishop knew how special you were and decided to legally adopt you as soon as he found out you didn’t have any known relatives.
You grew up among the club and its rules. A few days after he saved you, he became the Mayans’ new Vice-President. You couldn’t dream of a better father. Bishop was understanding, caring, making sure you had everything you wanted and investing in your education. You became the club’s sweetheart, a smile always gracing your face and your compassionate persona enlightening every room you entered. When your father had to make runs, he would leave you in the care of Marisol Reyes, which is how you became best friends with Ezekiel. EZ was by far the smartest person you came across with and it only intensified with the years. From this small bean, birthed a young man full of potential promised with great achievements.
Year 2007
Your platonic feelings towards EZ quickly evolved into more but you never acted upon them, not wanting to risk the dynamic in place. You kept both growing each at your own pace and each with their predefined plans. Considering that EZ was a year older and almost finishing high school, you asked for his help on one of your classes you had trouble understanding. Truth to be told, it was more a ruse to spend more time with him. You knew exactly how to succeed the class but you loved hearing his voice.
A few days later, you received your test and seeing the A+ written on it, you smiled, excited to share the news with EZ. Walking out of the classroom and into the parking lot, you saw and called him before engulfing him into a bone crushing hug. “Woah, hey there Y/N”, he mumbled. Feeling his muscles tense, you disengaged from the hug without noticing a pair of eyes analyzing the interaction. “Look I got an A+ thanks to you”. A smile graced his face before congratulating you. He turned to his left before stating happily, “Y/N, I would like to introduce to you Emily, my girlfriend”. You felt your heart squeeze inside your chest at the last word and turned your gaze to where he was looking. You met with the sight of his girlfriend, your mood switching from joy to sadness and back to smiley in a matter of seconds. It was a few seconds that told Emily everything she needed to know. “Hello, nice to meet you”, you said and reached out your hand. She grabbed it and faked a smile only you could identify. “Y/N, hi. EZ has told me so much about you.”
“Good things I hope”, you chuckled slightly giving him a look. “Of course, the best. He told me how close you both are”, she mentioned to which your jaw tightened just the slightest. “This guy I have to bear with? Nah”, you joked in order to break the tension. “Oh you’re like that hein?”, EZ turned to you, fake hurt plastered on his face. “Either way, we got to go babe”, Emily’s voice cut through the moment. “Yeah right. Do you wanna join us Y/N?” Before you could answer, Emily did it for you, “I’m sure Y/N must be busy and we already planned to go check that dinner, remember.”
Either way, you were about to refuse his invitation, not in the mood of being the third wheel on the date, watching the guy you were in love with being all lovey-dovey with someone else. “Thank you for the invite but Emily’s right. I have some things to do.” He nodded, understanding and joined hands with her. “See you around then. Tomorrow, usual place?”, he asked you to which you only nod. You saw them distancing themselves from you and made your way to the club, unaware of their conversation. “She’s totally into you”, commented Emily. EZ looked at her funny before laughing. “YN? No, we’re just best friends. What are you talking about?” She shook her head and told him he was too smart to not have noticed your feelings towards him earlier. “Trust me, she likes you.” He kept shaking his head even if doubt was making his way to his mind.

Fanfic quiz thing
Tagged by @belphegor1982--
How many works do you have on AO3? On AO3, 408. On FFN, 198, and, believe it or not, there isn’t as much overlap as you’d expect.
What’s your total AO3 word count? 1,390,063 words. ....I’m just as stunned.
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Around 35, give or take. We’ll be here all day if I listed them all, but the main ones that I’m currently writing for/would be in the mood to currently write for are: The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (TV show), The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, Back to the Future, Hogan’s Heroes, Pokémon (either pokeani or game ‘verse), Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Hades, and Super Smash Bros.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
“Heroic Resolve” (Man from U.N.C.L.E., light slash)
“A Devil Put Aside for Me” (Super Smash Bros, gen)
“If Wishes Were Cats” (MFU, light slash)
“Just Desserts” (MFU, light slash)
“Desperate Times” (MFU, light slash)
Do you respond to comments, why or why not? Oh, always; I’m always grateful for people who take a moment to tell me what they thought of my fics!
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Definitely “All Dead, All Dead” (Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Super Smash Bros)--it’s about BOTW Link realizing that the events of World of Light in Smash Ultimate makes this the second time that he failed to prevent a disaster, that he’s lost more this time than last time during the Calamity, and is now carrying even more survivor’s guilt as a result. I normally don’t write such angsty fics with no resolution, but as this is World of Light, and everyone’s restoration is a foregone conclusion if you’ve played the game, I felt it was fine as is.
Rest under a cut...
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? Oh, yes! The craziest one I’ve written is probably a Man from U.N.C.L.E./Pokémon crossover, “The Three Spheres of Stonehenge Affair,” (Gen) which makes use of the fact that Galar in the Pokémon world is a parallel of the UK, and results in a cult using a portal device to bring Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres over to England for Napoleon, Illya, Waverly, and Marton to deal with. Another one you wouldn’t expect to work was a rather angsty crossover between 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, “What’s Past is Prologue” (Gen), where Calamity Ganon strands the Scooby gang in the Hyrule Ridgelands about 5 years after the Champions are killed and Link has been sealed in the Shrine of Resurrection. The fam have to contend with Yiga, Guardians, the Blood Moon, and Ganon’s vengeance (because Vincent defeated Ganondorf in a duel ages ago, which he never forgave) to make it back to their world before it’s too late.
Have you ever received hate on a fic? Surprisingly, no; I was, admittedly, bracing myself for it when I started writing my 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo fics, as I feature the entire fam, including Scrappy and Flim-Flam, who are, shall we say... not exactly endeared to the fandom? (I never had a problem with either of them, honestly--if anything, I appreciated Flim-Flam for being the first South Asian rep in the Scoobyverse) The closest thing I ever received to hate was someone who read a middle chapter of one of my multichapter Hogan’s Heroes fics, ADMITTED IN THE REVIEW they hadn’t read anything other than that one middle chapter, and then complained that it made no sense. ...Congratulations, you just played yourself.
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but I have had one transcribed as a Podfic by someone else--“You Can’t Judge a Book” (Hogan’s Heroes, Gen).
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, once, on LiveJournal; it was a Hogan’s Heroes fic with an otherworldly spin; I’m not entirely sure if it still exists.
What’s your all time favorite ship? Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin, no contest!
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? All of them Most of all, the Monkeesfic I left hanging, because it was the literal final installment of the arc I was writing.
What are your writing strengths? Characterizations, or so I’ve been told--I can jump from fandom to fandom, and have everyone remain perfectly in-character. Also, dialogues. My writing has always been dialogue-driven.
What are your writing weaknesses? Descriptions. As improved as I am when compared to 2008 when I started posting stories online, I yearn for the ability to pull off the whole “Show, don’t Tell” as good as certain people I could mention.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? It can be tricky depending on the language, but rewarding if it all works out. In Hogan’s Heroes, LeBeau switching between French and English happens nearly once per episode, so I endeavor to do that (with plenty of help from Bel, I will admit). For Illya speaking Russian or Ukrainian in MFU, I throw it into Google Translate and pray it comes out coherent. His dialogues are the most challenging by far since I’m on my own. For Flim-Flam speaking Nepali in 13 Ghosts, I have a much easier time since Nepali is similar enough to Hindi (which I am decently fluent in).
What was the first fandom you wrote for? Pokémon, way back in 1999 (though those fics will never see the light of the internet, ever).
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? Ooh, I have to do this for my main three fandoms--
Man from U.N.C.L.E.-- “The Jack o’ the Lantern Affair” (Gen version on FFN, slash version on AO3). The spirit of a legendary trickster is running amok in New York City, and Napoleon and Illya have to contend with an otherworldly threat that they are not prepared to handle.
13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo-- “The Pleasant Valley Poltergeist” (Gen). Vincent and the fam are undercover in a no-nonsense gated community near Tuscon, trying to attempt a ghostbreaking--only things are complicated by an unexpected additional mystery, plus interference from the Homeowner’s Association.
Back to the Future-- “‘Cause I Might Not Make It Back” (Gen). Marty is pursued by a renegade scientist to be used as leverage against Doc, resulting in him getting stranded in 1932, stricken with amnesia. As 1986 Doc searches for Marty, the ripple effect fails to kick in as his 1932 counterpart finds him, and is tasked with trying to figure out how to get Marty’s memory back, as well as keep him out of the clutches of his renegade pursuer.

ao3 meme
guess who has two thumbs and likes reflecting on their own writing? this guyyy
how many works do you have on ao3? 86
what’s your total ao3 word count? 355,210
how many fandoms have you written for and what are they? 32! stealing ponyregrets’ idea of making a pie chart to represent them:
critical role easily wins out at 26, but in terms of which relationships I’ve written the most, it’s a tie between peter/juno and thor/valkyrie at 4 fics each, both of which are very clearly not in critical role, which I find interesting
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
rules of the game (the walking dead)
its sweet and bitter taste (fleabag/priest • fleabag)
we’re two easy targets (juno/peter • the penumbra podcast)
have a heart which skips a beat (kaz/inej • six of crows)
left to survive somehow (claire/owen • jurassic world: fallen kingdom) (technically this one is 6th, but I care about it more than the one that’s 5th)
do you respond to comments, why or why not? uh, sometimes. theoretically, I’d like to respond to all of them, but usually I’ll just do like a dozen in one go and then not get around to any others for a few months.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? probably no one left to mourn for me (grace/daniel • ready or not), although rather I’d lose my limbs than let you come to harm (dimension 20: a crown of candy) has an angsty premise. I do have others with pretty angsty endings, but those are canon-compliant angst, and that feels like it counts less than having individually gone “hey wouldn’t it be fucked up if this happened?”
do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written? I haven’t written any yet, but I’ve honestly been toying with the idea for an ellie (borderlands) & pam poovey (archer) fic. mostly because I always think of the interview amber nash did when she described pam as a “sturdy bisexual” and had the same thought about ellie while playing bl3 with some friends and she’s flirting indiscriminately with all the vault hunters. maybe a coma season au where the seamus lands on pandora or docks with sanctuary in space? though I’d want pam to be her usual self instead of the rock alien iteration from 1999, so who knows. it’s mostly just a thought
have you ever received hate on a fic? probably, but I don’t specifically remember. mostly I get versions of “hey, this was a bummer” on no one left to mourn for me
do you write smut? If so what kind? not really. the closest I get is, like, alluding to what’s happening without really diving into the specifics. even the mare of easttown fic I wrote that starts with the line “Before they'd fucked, Zabel had wanted to go down on her” has very little sex in it, and more focuses on the build-up and the emotions after. what can I say, writing smut is intimidating
have you ever had a fic stolen? I doubt it, but have never really checked.
have you ever had a fic translated? once, for a zodiac fic of all things
what’s your all time favorite ship? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? I still toy with the idea of finishing rules of the game. it’s easily the most ridiculous, self-indulgent thing I’ve ever written, but I’ve always liked the emotional core of the story and do still think about wrapping it up. then again, I first started it in 2015 or 2016, which is long enough ago I’d want to edit it pretty heavily before revisiting, but I’ve known what’s going to happen in the next few chapters since it went on hiatus like four years ago (and, in fact, have had the next chapter written probably since 2018 and just never posted it)
what are your writing strengths? imagery and tone, I think
what are your writing weaknesses? plot/pacing, unique voices when writing OW
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? personally I don’t do much more than a word or two
what was the first fandom you wrote for? the 100
what’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? this is kind of an insufferable answer, but most of them? I reread my own fics fairly regularly (usually when I get the morning kudos email and can’t remember a specific title or haven’t revisited it in a while) because like. I mostly write for myself and I am usually a satisfied audience. i recognize that this is fully a cop out, but also I’m indecisive and don’t want to have to choose, fight me

xanthippe74′s 2020
I’m accepting @gnarf‘s invitation to “show us what you did in 2020, the things you’re proud of.” Writing statistics, masterlist of works created, and my fandom highlights for 2020 are below the cut. I hope anyone who’d like to share their accomplishments, large and small, for this insane year will consider themselves tagged!
2020 Statistics:
◾ Fics posted on AO3: 7 ◾ Total words posted on AO3: 138,005 ◾ Microfics posted on Tumblr: 19 ◾ Fests written for: 4 (Wireless, Taste of Smut, Sex Fair, and Wireless Festive Minifest) ◾ Unposted WIP words written: about 35,000 (coming soon in 2021!)
Masterlist of works from 2020:
◾ Vortex (20K, Rated T) “Don’t worry, my dearest one,” Draco’s mother told him when he confided his worries to her. When he was old enough to feel the pangs of adolescent longing, but still too young to sense the storm gathering around them. “Magic will overcome any distance or obstacles to bring two soulmates together when the time is right. Circumstances will arise that steer them in the right direction; strange coincidences will make their paths cross again and again. Then the most wondrous moment arrives, when you both realize that your soulmate, your perfect match, stands before you, and from that day forward your hearts will be one.” Ten years after that conversation, the idea of perfectly-matched soulmates feels more like a curse than a blessing to Draco. Who would want a soulmate who was a schoolyard bully, a Death Eater, and a convicted felon? Certainly not Harry Potter. And Draco is determined to take this secret to the grave.
◾ The Comfiest Armchair (2K, Rated T) In which Harry and Draco won't stop fighting over the best armchair in the Eighth-Year common room, Hermione takes matters into her own hands, and Harry sees a (ahem) side of Draco that he's never seen before.
◾ Lockdown Lurgy (15K, Rated T) When a dangerous virus comes to Britain, the Ministry orders a mandatory lockdown to control its spread. If Harry wants to spend the next two weeks with Teddy, he’s going to have to share Andromeda’s guest room with none other than Draco Malfoy, England’s Number One Prat. Andromeda’s collection of romance novels might save Harry from boredom, but nothing can make living with Malfoy bearable… until Harry has the inexplicable impulse to kiss him.
◾ Follow the Water (38K, Rated T, HD Wireless Fest) Harry Potter’s life is fine. Maybe a little dull and predictable, but he shouldn’t complain about that, right? When he unexpectedly finds himself at Luna’s house one afternoon, Harry gets invited to join the secret wonderland that she’s creating with a surprising group of friends. Maybe a summer outdoors is just what a former hero needs to bring some zest back into his life.
◾ Crimson Neon (20K, Rated M, Taste of Smut Fest) Winter, 1999. Harry thought going to New York would help him get his head on straight, but all he has to show for it are sore feet and a fridge full of takeaway containers. And now he’s homesick on top of everything else. It doesn’t help that his mysterious neighbour in 2C keeps cooking dishes that remind Harry of home and all the people he lost or left behind. The familiar face behind the door of 2C is only the first surprise. As the bleak winter eases into spring, Harry discovers that happiness isn’t as out of reach as he thought… as long as he can find a way to hold onto it.
◾ On Your Shore (35K, Rated M, HD Sex Fair) Clearing out a remote house full of cursed collectibles in the Outer Hebrides? Not a problem for an experienced curse breaker like Harry Potter. Spending a week with the straight, happily-married man that he’s starting to have feelings for? And sharing a bed with him at night? Surely Harry can handle that, too. But both the house and Draco Malfoy have secrets to uncover, and Harry might be in deeper water than he thought.
◾In the Midnight Blue (5K, Rated T, Wireless Festive Minifest) On a Christmas Eve broom ride over Hogwarts, Harry shows Draco that he’s braver than he thinks.
◾ Drarry Microfics List
2020 Fandom Highlights
◾ Number one, without a doubt, was joining the Drarry Discord and meeting the amazing folks there. For support and commiseration, finding beta readers and friendly Brits willing to answer any and all questions, and just a lot of fun and interesting conversations about everything (Potter-related or not), it’s the place to be for this fandom. Special shoutout to my Cabin Crew (you know who you are, and I love all of you).
◾ Fests! So much excitement to share, even for the ones I didn’t write for. Endless Kudos and Love to all the fest moderators out there, especially those of you who did it for the first time or created new fests.
◾ Drarry Microfics on Tumblr! I’ve had so much fun writing these prompts for the last couple of months, and it’s been a good exercise for me to weed out superfluous words in order to winnow down an idea to fifty words. And @drarrymicrofic hasn’t called me out once for using her lovely prompts in strange and subversive ways. 😉
◾ The brilliant and talented @fictional read my fic, Follow the Water, wrote a beautiful rec, and felt inspired to make this incredible art. Reader, I wept to see my characters, whom I love very dearly, brought to life so lovingly in summery, vibrant colors.
◾ Every last one of you who read one of my fics, left a kudos or a comment, wrote a rec, and followed my Tumblr. I appreciate it so much, and that positive feedback has truly been one of the things that got me through this year. 💖
✨See you all in 2021!✨

writer check-in question set
Tagged by: I stole it. Tagging: Anyone who wants to do this! ^_^
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Sadly only six.
2. What is your total AO3 word count?
75,262
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Game of Thrones (TV) Metal Gear Solid/Rising Resident Evil (Movie Verse) The Avengers (MCU)
Including crossovers:
I’ve got a Hellboy II / Silent Hill crossover one that I really need to finish and get posted already...
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
“Windows to the Soul” (MGS/R) “Saving the Past” (RE) “Broken Wings of Black” (GoT) “Gendel’s Children” (GoT) “Just Twelve Minutes... An Eternity” (MCU)
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do! I figure if someone actually takes the time to write a comment about something I’ve written, I at least owe them my time to thank them for it.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
“Just Twelve Minutes... An Eternity,” probably.
7. Do you ever write crossovers?
Like I mentioned above, I was working on a Hellboy II / Silent Hill crossover that I really worked hard on and should seriously go back and finish.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not hate, but I’ve received criticisms either for my writing or for the actual plot/content from people who didn’t like it, didn’t agree with it, or saw flaws in it. But that’s okay, that’s how I grow and learn as a writer.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Eh... I do? But I hate it? Because I feel like it comes out soooo stupid no matter how much I try to make it sexy haha. But I’ve written smut in rps as well as novels.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not an entire fic, but I did post small excerpts of some of my earliest fics on here and had them reposted, even though I had a big bold thing right on there that said do not repost, please don’t steal, etc. Yeah, people didn’t care. I reported the blog and contacted them directly asking them to take it down, but neither them nor staff ever did anything about it. Oh well.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I haven’t. It’s really hard for me to work with other writers on something I’m writing for just myself... as in, not an rp or something collaborative. But I have had some rps in the past with really long, descriptive replies that went on for months or even years that I felt were essentially really great fics that I had created with the other writer.
12. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Oh gosh, that’s impossible to answer, haha. There are so many I love.
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
The Mummy (1999), unless you mean actually posted publicly, in which case Game of Thrones.
14. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Probably Gendel’s Children. I worked really hard on that one and it’s counterpart, Broken Wings of Black. Gendel’s Children was a culmination of a whole lot of time, effort, editing, research, and careful attention to canon details and personalities of characters that weren’t my own. I just remember it fondly as something I busted my ass for that was fairly well received by the public. I can actually say I’m proud of both of those fics.
15. BONUS QUESTION: Do you have a WIP that haunts you?
Yeah, that crossover I wanna finish, heh. And a couple of novels I left unfinished too.
#{ i am the caretaker of souls } ᵒᵒᶜ#silence writes#{i don't do enough about the writer thingies so have this heh}

VOLUME II
Here we go, round 2 of NHL fics that I very highly recommend for you to check out, and if you’ve read them before, why not re-read them again? Discover an old favourite or fall in love with a new one.
Below the cut you’ll find my five recommendations + my hot take/summary + a line, or two, that hits.
When Fate Stepped In by @jasondickinsons | Tyson Barrie
Oh my god. This is a series and there’s been two parts so far (part two can be found here), I was going to wait until it was complete before I recommended it, but I cannot wait before any longer to recommend it, that’s how sure I am this fic will go in a wondrous way. It’s such a beautiful series about shared dreaming and soulmates. I don’t read many soulmates au anymore, but this made me question my preferences. No matter what I say, it will not do this series justice. Your character is thinking of uprooting their life to Toronto and it so happens that she’s dreaming of a certain player of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Luckily, best friend Amy may have some answers about why this stranger feels like home and why he settles an itch that you can’t quite reach.
“What part of ‘soulmates’ don’t you understand? You’re going to see him again. There’s no question about that.” And then she disappeared into the bathroom once more.
Wildfire by @slimskjei-dy | Brock Boeser
I know none of us know these athletes really, but this feels oddly very in character for Brock (I may or may not be going through a Brock phase. He’s just so sweet and lovely - an actual ray of sunshine, what’s not to love about him?). This particular fic is about a reoccurring summer tradition of playing house with Brock may lead to more after an ill timed comment from the NHL’s answer to Draco Malfoy (yes, I, most definitely, mean Petey).
“You keep coming back though,” Brock chuckles, pulling you closer and flopping back onto his bed. “I always do.”
Striped Heart by @burkymakar | Nathan MacKinnon
(bonus: part 2)
Imagine being the first female NHL since 1999. Imagine having to prove to everyone you’re perfect for the job and that your calls are valid - pressure! Also, imagine with trying to deal with all that testosterone - stress! Also also, imagine one certain player catching your attention more than he should, and now he’s keeping you company during quarantine (via the wonders of modern technology) - oops? And this player is proving himself to be redeemable after a certain situation (don’t want to spoil what was done, so go read it to find out). Wow okay, how do you not fall in love with him? Guess you have to. (How he’s written most definitely helps, too.)
Nate: I dont think I ever said but it’s really amazing what you’ve done in the NHL Nate: you’re pretty impressive You pressed your knuckles to your cheeks, as if that would quell the flames burning there.

4 part series: part one, two, three and four.
Exasperated - that is how I felt reading this. You know the feeling when someone is being so utterly dense (or in this case, two people) and they are not pulling themselves together? Yes, that. With every part of this series, part of me was going, get it together!! Get together! The other part of me was relishing in the disaster that is your character and Nolan’s relationship. (+bonus Travis being called a “walnut”). I am torn between two bits to quote.
“Please don’t make me wait” You should have known, he left without much persuasion and you can only imagine he spent that minute out in the hall deliberating whether or not to actually leave but now he’s here and almost pleading with you with his warm hands around your face again.

Wedding guest date, one bed, friends to lovers.. do I need to say more to convince you? I felt so warm and fuzzy reading it. It’s so well written. Sit back and enjoy the interaction between your character and the other players while acting very much like a couple with Nate despite not being in a relationship.
It’s a picture of a couple, or at least they look like a couple, laughing together and smiling at each other adoringly. The lights are catching them just right, bathing the two of them in a golden hue, and they each look like they’d rather be nowhere else than wrapped in each others’ arms.
#huh.. so i've really been feeling the nate fics i guess#it's so hard choosing one part of a fic to quote#i want to quote SO much#nhl fic recs#m's fic recs

[I know what you did last] Halloween
Part One // Part Two // Part Four
Pairing: Scooby gang x reader (platonic)
This the third part to a platonic story with the reader as part of the Scooby gang. Set season 3. This is a multi-parted serial killer/slasher fic for Halloween. This one is probably the longest, and with the largest number of deaths. 🖤🦇
Warning: It is a serial killer fic, main characters are going to continue to die (I’m sorry, it’s Halloween).
There is a reference to suicide. I do not describe anything (method, etc) in detail, it is implied. It is not the reader. Violence. Blood mention. Swearing.
Domestic Disturbances – the new norm?
Sunnydale Express, October 1999.
At The Sunnydale Express, we are always using statistics to tell us what may be happening in our town. A large spike in cases tells us that more young people are getting involved in domestic disturbances, both with partners and friends.
Furthermore, young people in Sunnydale are 50% more likely to be in public places after dark and this accounts for their high numbers of disappearances and more recently, their high numbers of serial-killer related deaths.
It comes to light in the recent spate of serial killings that many young people attract attention to themselves by partying, going out late at night and allowing their friends to walk home alone.
After the argument, Cordy stalked off. She was cold. She only had on her cheerleading uniform and it barely covered her skin. She had goose bumps. Hugging herself as she walked. Still muttering under her breath about the group. She had never known a Californian evening to have such a chill in the air, it was as if she had stepped out into the arctic circle.
“Damn it!” She groaned, realising she had left her cell back at the house. She didn’t want to go back, not after she had already stormed out. She rubbed her own arms as she walked, trying to create a little more warmth.
As she walked, she had this strange feeling. As if she was being watched. She kept checking behind her, quickening her pace. She was starting to worry. She thought she had better contact her father, maybe he could pick her up seeing as her car was in the shop.
She eventually came across a payphone and stepped up to it. She took some money and dialled the number.
She heard a noise as she waited and paused, looked around. She squinted into the darkness but shrugged, stepping back up to the phone. She waited, the phone rang out and she sighed not knowing what to do. It felt as if it was getting colder and she swore she could feel eyes on her.
All at once, her fears came true. Her feeling wasn’t unfounded.
He stared, silently just watching her. When she just stared back, he knocked on the pay phone box with his scythe. She started to diall the phone quickly getting as far as ‘91-′ before he slashed the cord.
“Oh, what am I supposed to be scared? Am I supposed to, like, run away? Give you a chase?” She asked, standing toe-to-toe with the masked figure before continuing, “Well, I’m Cordelia Chase, dumbass – who the hell are you?”
“Your worst nightmare” The voice spoke as if he had been chewing knuts and bolts.
“Oh please” Cordelia replied, her hands on her hips as she arched an eyebrow, “I’m from here. Y’know Sunnydale? We slay creeps like you for breakfast”
“Slay this, murderer” He said evenly. Cordelia frowned but didn’t manage to move fast enough as he hooked her on his scythe. The hook so deep it came out the other side of her body. She looked down and screamed, scratching at the mask and trying to pull on it. The killer hadn’t been expecting it. Somehow she managed to unhook herself, whether it was adrenaline or maybe because she was used to having sharp metal stuck through her middle, she really was made of stronger stuff than he had anticipated.
She started to run, clutching her now bleeding stomach. She was going to have to find a really good surgeon to sort this mess out, she sighed. She ran as fast as she could, leaving a trail of thick blood in her wake. She started to falter. If the killer didn’t catch her, then a vampire might. This spurred her on, making her run faster.
She turned down an alley, not able to see him behind her anymore. But she didn’t slow, just kept running. That was, until she ran straight into him. He had caught her off-guard sending her straight into his path. He stared for a moment, almost savouring it before he acted. He stabbed her, slashed at her stomach. The blood sprayed over the costume as she screamed at him, mostly in anger but also out of pain.
She turned, much slower than before and started to try and get away. He paused, just watching her as she went slower and slower. She started to collapse but she didn’t stop propelling herself forwards. She was trying to fight, to survive until her last breath. She started to claw at the gravel with her nails as she ended up crawling to try to get away. The wound was too much.
The next day held yet another American horror story for you to wake up to. One that would continue to haunt you as you tried to live through the days without breaking. You felt trapped. Targeted. Like a caged animal, knowing you were next for the slaughter. But mostly, you just felt sad. Missing your friend.
The sky was overcast and grey. You had never seen weather like it in Sunnydale before. It had filled you with a sense of foreboding before you had even woken up properly.
You were all hung over, but that feeling was nothing compared to how you felt when you had heard. Willow had called but she had only sobbed and hung up on you. You waited by the phone until you had another call. From Buffy.
You had heard about Cordelia’s death the same way everyone else had, through word of mouth. Her body had been arranged publicly for unsuspecting members of the public to pass by. Everyone had told everyone. By breakfast, everyone knew and the media was playing catch-up.
You didn’t go near where her body had been left for everyone to see. You just sat in silence. Your ears ringing, not able to focus. Her body had been horribly mutilated and her intestines had been arranged so that they spelled ‘murderer’. Newspaper clippings arranged around her. You couldn’t stop thinking about how you had just walked away from everyone. Just left them to argue. You felt you were to blame.
Should we blame the parents?
Sunnydale express, October 1999. Official death toll: 6
The police have launched a case that is apparently now being investigated in connection to a now deceased young woman. The alleged murderer, Cordelia Chase, was discovered early this morning who rather ironically was caught spilling her guts to the world. We wonder why it took the act of a serial killer to reveal this. Mr Chase declined to comment.
The Sunnydale Express expects more truth to be disclosed as the vigilante (or, hero, as we may come to know him: you heard it here first) may reveal more as the weeks go on.
We wonder whether the parents should be held accountable in the same way that Ms Chase was.
The police interviews were being conducted on the entire student body. The questions were apparently to be asked about the current murders as well as this recent accusation written using Cordelia’s death.
You were waiting for your turn. You couldn’t help think that it wasn’t a coincidence that you and your remaining friends were the ones called to the principal’s office first. Snyder had never liked any of you, but he had some (in honesty, not ridiculous) suspicions about you. Especially since you looked like walking zombies in the corridors since last year.
You were sat in the waiting area, trying to keep calm. You were staring straight ahead, into a dead man’s eyes. Principal Flutie. You hadn’t really known him very long, you had probably seen this memorial plaque more than you had seen him in person.
But it made you wonder why his death wasn’t investigated with as much importance. Why, when it came to supernatural crimes did nobody ever question it? His death was pronounced natural causes. You had never met someone who had died of less natural causes than students that had been taken over by hyenas eating your face.
It also made you think that ever since those students killed the Principal, you hadn’t seen them around school anymore. You knew at least one of the girls had moved to a different state. And two of the guys played basketball… or was it football? You couldn’t recall (it wasn’t very interesting to you anyway, you were more likely to have murder on the brain). You do remember that Snyder had kept them for at least another year because they won the school trophies.
But it concerned you. It was right that Mr Bates’ death should be investigated, but there are so many other people that didn’t get this much attention afforded to their case. You wouldn’t be surprised if there was someone in the authorities that they hired to weed out the supernatural from the normal crimes and only focus on them.
“Y/n? Your turn” a voice told you and you got up and walked over to the door, your legs working without your brain catching up. You were mostly on autopilot now. The kind receptionist smiled sympathetically at you as you walked in, passing Willow who’s face was red and puffy. She avoided your eye contact and you felt a growing sense of dread.
You came and sat down, opposite three men. Two investigators and Snyder. As soon as you sat down, Snyder was enjoying himself, he had a sadistic smile on his face every time the officer turned back to look at you. You avoided looking at him after a while, your eyes trained only on the investigator. Snyder was agitated and you were trying to keep your composure.
“Where were you on the night of Halloween, 1998?”
“At a party – the same party everyone in town was at” You answered in short sentences, sure you would choke on your words if you tried to say anything else. They knew. About Mr Bates. They suspected you. You hadn’t known the police in Sunnydale to find a lead so quickly. It was as if they had offered themselves to the devil in exchange for half-decent investigative skills.
“Did you see Ms Chase on that date?”
“Yes I saw Cordelia on Halloween” You replied. The questions continued like that for almost an hour. Questions being asked in circles, trying to see if any of your responses changed. They sounded pleasant but there was an underlying accusatory tone that you knew was completely fair. You had, in fact, been involved in the death they were questioning you about after all.
“Do you have any further information?” The investigator asked finally.
“Have you spoken to Faith?” You asked. You didn’t know why you mentioned her specifically but you were still seething from the argument you had with her. You wanted to check, even though a part of you knew the sentence was somewhat loaded with accusation.
“Ms Lehane is not a suspect”
“But you know she was at the party and she was seen with Cordy-”
“Ms Lehane is not a suspect and we have yet to contact her lawyer for a statement”
“Her lawyer?”
“Yes, a representative from Wolfram and Hart. Why, do you need a lawyer y/n?”
“N-no, that’s okay” You offer, getting out of your seat and avoiding eye contact as you left the office.
Weird. Since when could Faith afford a lawyer? And why was she suddenly immune to the authorities? You had never thought of her as having friends in high places.
You walked straight past your class, needing some room to breathe. The walls of the corridor felt as if they were closing in and the acute feeling of misery surrounded you. Everyone felt it. Avoided you in the corridors because of it. You went into the library. Wesley saw you, he nodded, understanding you needed your space. You needed time somewhere you felt safe. The library had always made you feel this way.
You ran your finger along the spines of the books, barely paying attention as you picked one out at random and walked over to a desk in the corner with it under your arm. Even if you didn’t manage to focus on the words, it would be at least some comfort to you.
You sat down in your favourite spot and opened a book that read, ‘Ouija boards and how to use them’. Must have been in the occult section. But it did lead to an idea that started forming in your mind.
That was it. That’s what you needed to do. Maybe they would have some kind of clue, some kind of weakness. Maybe they could tell you who the masked figure really was and if you knew them. You decided you would tell the others during the lunch break that you usually spent in a melancholy silence, picking at your food.
You sat back in your chair, knowing Wesley was watching you - debating whether he should offer a friendly ear. But he ultimately decided against it, he could get a little awkward around discussing emotions and he wouldn’t know what he would do if you started crying. You felt his concern though and you looked up and nodded at him, sending him a tight smile. He returned it and quickly scurried off to do some organising of the books now he had become head librarian.
You sat back in your chair, considering everything that had gone on already today. It was enough to make your head spin. You didn’t know if you could handle much more. You were afraid. For yourself, for your friends.
There was something about these killings. Either someone had done their research or they were very lucky in picking off the exact people they needed to target. You figured it must be someone at school, you found yourself deciding you wouldn’t even be surprised if it was Snyder at this point.
It was late afternoon now and you should be in history class. So should Buffy and Willow. But none of you were. You had closed all of the curtains and lit as many candles as you could find.
You knelt down beside Willow and Buffy, a Ouija board on the coffee table that you sat around. You started to reach for each other, to hold hands but something stopped you.
There was a loud knock at the door and you all jumped violently. Maybe it was Faith finally arriving - you had been waiting for her but she had been so late you had to start without her.
“Y/n? Y/n! Is it true you were friends with Cordelia?”
“Wha-”
“Are you next? Do you think the vigilante will be coming for you now?”
“Why would-”
“Leave. Now!” Buffy shouted firmly. The reporters had all heard of Buffy and backed off slightly. But a few pictures flashed of you both before Buffy slammed the door shut on them. You thanked her softly, all of your faces solemn
The only chance you had now was to contact the spirits, hope they had some kind of information so that you could find the killer and stop him. You could offer them help too. Maybe that was the kind of atonement that would make you feel less guilt? No, you didn’t really believe that. Well, it may save the rest of your friends lives so it was worth it you decided.
You tried to calm yourselves down, you had all been shaken from what had happened. You hoped they couldn’t print anything about you. Newspapers couldn’t publish anything without actual facts, right?
The three of you held hands, closing your eyes and focusing on calling the spirits of the people you loved back to you. The Ouija board was in the middle of the circle, but it was more of an object to focus your minds rather than to speak to your dead friends. You were hoping to manifest them here. To talk to them.
And you did.
But not in the way you had hoped. Xander, Giles and Cordelia appeared. As if out of thin air. You smiled at them, so pleased to see them. Relived to see their faces. Until you looked properly. It was like seeing them in fog. Their faces slightly distorted. The scars from their deaths sewed up but prominent.
“You did this! You did this! YOU DID THIS!” they started to chant simultaneously, getting louder and louder. The grudge they held was strong. You felt it deep within. They hated you. They wanted you in their place.
You kept trying to talk to them, apologise and even plead with them to talk to you. But they wouldn’t. They started to charge towards you, violence in their eyes as you broke the circle in shock. As soon as you let go of your friends hands, they disappeared.
You were all exhausted. It had taken a lot of energy and you were no closer to finding out who the masked killer was. You had little hope for living into tomorrow and your friends all blamed you for their deaths. You had used up all of your options. You had no more plans.
You, Buffy and Willow were still recovering from contacting the spirits when Faith entered, a lot later than you had told her to come. She had needed to meet with someone. Someone she had never told any of you about.
“Where did you get your fancy lawyer from, huh? You live in a fucking motel!” You got up immediately, not bothering with the niceties. You had a bad feeling. Like she was somehow going to spin this back onto you. Something about how she had been acting recently didn’t sit right with you.
“Yeah, thanks for offering me a bed” Faith quipped, but you weren’t getting distracted easily.
“Lawyer?” Willow asked, frowning at Faith.
“Why do you have a lawyer?” Buffy asked, her hand on her hip as she scrutinised Faith.
“I was just told I needed one” she shrugged.
“By who?” You demanded. You knew it. You knew there was something going on.
“By no one!” Faith rolled her eyes, “Stop ridin’ my dick, y/n”
“Don’t do that! You’ve fucking told someone!” You persisted. You could feel it, “You never liked Cordelia and you’ve never mentioned needing a lawyer before - why do you have one now? Feeling guilty over something?”
You tried to swing at Faith but she grabbed your wrist and twisted your arm around your back painfully. Buffy had to run in and broke you up. You apologised to Buffy, but avoided looking at Faith as you tried to calm down. She looked around at the rest of you, sighing. She knew you were all suspicious of her now so she left, slamming the door behind her.
Teen suicide: Trendy or tragic?
The Sunnydale Express, October 1999. Official death toll: 6.
It has come to our attention that, amongst the increased missing cases, apparent self-inflicted deaths have been on the increase in Sunnydale especially in young people. Here at the Express, we like to get the facts so we interviewed some students from Sunnydale high school and paraphrased their response.
‘Life totally sucks’ – anonymous student.
‘We just, like, don’t care’ – another anonymous student.
There you have it, real words from real students. It makes us wonder at The Sunnydale Express, whether suicide really is serious or just ‘the next big thing’?
Willow and Oz were sat on the sofa in Oz’s home. They had the house to themselves and they were making the most of it by watching rentals and cuddling. Oz had an arm over Willow’s shoulder. Luckily, he hadn’t heard about the reporters yet and so his girlfriend was satisfied he had no suspicions. Willow wasn’t really in the room however, she was just staring into space.
“I’m startin’ to worry. You’re not yourself” he said softly, kissing her cheek.
“I’m not?”
“Ever since last Halloween… I know what it is. What you did” Oz stated. Calm as ever.
Horror swept across her face, quickly rounding the corner into panic. She was stunned. Unable to move. Speak. So Oz continued, “You and Xander… it was when you and he started... Right?” his voice was level and his expression was stoic, but there was something there. He was still hurt by what had happened, but he understood that this would hurt more. Now he had died. Now so many of the people she was close to had died. And now she had seemed to stop talking to everyone except Buffy. Everything happening this time of year was bound to take her usual Willow shine.
Willow visibly relaxed at his suggestion, but this didn’t last. Estimations suggest it was around half a second, before a voice boomed into the living room, answering Oz’s question. “Wrong” the gravelly texture to his voice making Willow wince.
Oz got up from the sofa, immediately standing in front of Willow. The figure moved his head from side to side, the signature mask not allowing them to see an expression. But the hairs on the back of their neck was standing on end.
Tell. Tell. Tell. Tell.
As if there were still some spirits left over from earlier in the day, Willow felt it within. He wanted her to tell Oz.
“I- I can’t tell him”
“Tell me what? Will?” Oz asked levelly, his hand comfortingly rubbing her upper arm.
“Tell him… or he dies”
“W-we killed that man. Well, we hid his body a-and then we started getting these notes a-and-” Willow collapsed into sobs as she tried to recall everything that happened, “G-Giles- too and we cleaned it up and made it look like an a-accident”
Oz’s face twisted into shock. He had never been this visibly shocked. Then his face changed. In their horrifying exchange, they had almost forgotten they had a visitor and Oz had moved to face away from him. Oz looked down, his eyes wide in horror.
It made Willow look down too. It was as if a demon was breaking out of his chest. His t-shirt stained with blood as the blade was removed and then repeatedly stabbed into him. Each time the blade sliced through him Willow winced and stared in horror. She was rooted to the spot. That was, until Oz fell forwards into her arms.
“Did I say or? I meant ‘and’” the voice said, Willow was able to hear that he was smiling through his mask. He cleaned off the scythe with his finger and watched. She sobbed, lowering herself to the ground and Oz became dead weight. She held him to her, his horrified look still in his eye as his breathing began to slow. A pool of blood started to surround them as the killer watched, as if in fascination from above.
He let Willow bawl for a while, her salty tears mixing in with Oz’s blood. Then he got bored. “Sign” he stated, brandishing a typed up note under her nose. He started to grow impatient as she didn’t reply and demanded again, “Sign it”
“W-why? What is it?” Willow said between sobs. She was still on the floor, clinging to Oz.
“A confession” He stated, tilting his head to the side before looking down at his other hand that had appeared from behind his back, now there was a noose in one hand and the already typed note in another.
“No!” Willow screamed and started to run but she was still weak from shock. She knew what was coming. She got up, desperately trying to run but it had been too much. It had been exhausting. Hiding. Living in fear. Witnessing everything she had seen and it never got easier. Especially not now. “Oz”, she whimpered.
The figure chased her through the house, she ran up the stairs towards the bedroom. She slammed the door and jammed it closed with a set of drawers she managed to push with some effort.
He had been right behind her and had started to stab through the door with his scythe when he realised it was locked. The door splintered and eventually gave through. He stuck his arm through the gap, swinging the weapon wildly as if he could catch Willow even slightly but she was huddled in the corner.
“Willow dear, light of nobody’s life?” he asked frantically realising this was futile, “Let me in… Let me in!” he started to get angrier, his composure slipping only briefly before he moved away leaving a gap in the door. She heard footsteps descending down the stairs and slowly moved from the corner she had been hiding in. Willow was breathing heavily, tiptoeing to the door to see where he had gone. She paused before hauling the cupboard back. She started to open the door slowly and stepped tentatively onto the landing. As soon as she started to walk slowly he ran at her full pelt. She stumbled over her feet, running down the stairs and past the front door, through the kitchen, checking behind her to see that he was right behind her.
She turned into the living room, shrieking in horror, she had been chased in a circle back to where she had started. He had been toying with her. Humouring her.
She was covered in Oz’s blood and skidded to the floor, hitting her head on the coffee table. She clutched at her head, Oz’s blood mixing with hers as her vision started to go fuzzy until it finally went black…
