The first emotion that spiked through you when you heard that the second years were back from their mission was relief. None of them were dead; anything else, you could deal with.
You had rushed to the infirmary, ignoring Nobaraâs snickers. She alone knew who you was sprinting to see â your feelings for a certainupperclassman were highly secret, of course, but somehow she had found out, and of course she had, because she was Kugisaki Nobara, and nothing could really be kept secret from her for very long.
She had been urging you to do something, to make a move, citing that it âwasnât like he had a lot of girls interested in him, anyways,â but you had always been too shy. You werenât sure that you could handle a rejection, and it was hard to tell whether he was interested in you or just polite.
But your fear did not stop you from skidding to a stop in front of Shoko, giving her a wide-eyed stare, patiently waiting for her to tell you what was wrong with your friends.
âDid you need something?â she said. Obviously, her cursed technique had nothing to do with reading minds, but you still scowled at her for not knowing what you were thinking.
âThe second years. AreâŠare they alright?â you said. She frowned, and this was your first clue that there was something less than alright going on with the trio.
âWell, theyâre not permanently hurt, no,â she said. You sighed in relief â this was more than you couldâve hoped for. The curse that they had been sent to fight was obviously a strong one, and more than that, it was wily, with a rumored arsenal of techniques far beyond what you could even comprehend.
âThatâs good,â you said.
âIt is. Theyâll all make a full recovery; Maki and Panda were barely impacted, anyways,â she said. Your blood ran cold at the name she didnât mention.
âAnd Inumaki?â you said. If something had happened to himâŠyou werenât sure what youâd do. Probably cry. A lot.
âHeâs fine, just a bit shocked. See, the curse managed to take his cursed energy from him, so until thatâs been replenished, heâs just a normal person,â she said.
âHuh?â you said. âWhat does that mean?â
âWhy donât you just ask him yourself?â she said, ushering you into the infirmary, âI know thatâs why youâre really here.â
Maki and Panda were nowhere to be found, and Shoko groaned, muttering about irresponsible children and telling you sheâd be back with her patients in tow once more. This left you alone in the room with Inumaki Toge â at once your biggest dream and greatest fear.
You did not speak for the first few moments, far too nervous to open your mouth. He was buried in a mountain of pillows and blankets, soft blond hair falling in his violet eyes as he flipped through the pages of a book. His zipped up collar was nowhere to be seen; he only wore a plain white t-shirt, leaving his snake-fang seals visible. You had always thought they were pretty, so then your nerves were overtaken by infatuation with the elegant markings. The end result was the same: when Inumaki looked up, it was to you awkwardly standing in the room and watching him read.
âHello,â he said. This made you pause and think.
âHi?â you said.
âHow are you doing?â he said. Now you really were confused.
âNot that Iâm complaining, but canât youâŠnot speak?â you said. He set his book on his nightstand and sat up with a heavy sigh.
âNormally, I canât. But as of right now, I can. Thatâs the effect of that curse we fought. I have the most cursed energy out of the three of us second years, so it drained mine, which means Iâm unable to use my technique until my energyâs built up again. Shoko estimates itâll be about a week,â he said.
âOh!â you said. So Inumaki had one week of talking normally before he would be back to his usual limited speech. You wondered what he would think to say.
You had met Inumaki on your first day at Jujutsu Tech. He had helped you find your dorm room and then, via text, warned you about Gojoâs antics. Your crush had been born the very same day. He was so beautiful and kind that it was almost a no-brainer, really; though he could only speak in rice ball components, you didnât even care. You found solace in swooning at him from afar, and every conversation you had ever had with him since then was filed away in a special corner of your mind, played on repeat whenever you were bored.
Nobara thought you were crazy when she found out, asking you if you had an ingredients fetish and then teasing you for a solid day by moaning tuna in your ear whenever she saw you. She only stopped because you started crying and begged Fushiguroâs Divine Dogs to chase her away if she got too close. The dogs were friendly enough and obliged, though you had had to buy Fushiguro several bags of candy for his troubles.
You could hear her voice in your ear right now as you stared at Inumaki, though it was thankfully not her moaning ingredients but rather her insisting that you say something. It was so easy; now, at least, he could reject you properly, with words instead of helpless frustration and a long-winded text about how you were nice, really, but he just thought of you as an annoying friend who didnât leave him alone, and anyways, why would he ever like you?
âCan I tell you something?â he said before you could ask to do the same. Privately, you were relieved at this, for it meant you could procrastinate your confession a little further.
âWhatâs up?â you said, a small, childish hope arising in you that maybe, just maybe, this was it. Maybe heâd confess first, and then things would be very simple indeed. You allowed yourself to feel excitement building at this prospect.
âIâŠoh, man, how do I do this?â he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, a flush rising over his pale cheeks. âAh, shit, Iâve spent my whole life wishing I could speak and having so many things to say but not the words to say them, and now that I finally can talk, I just donât even know what to say.â
âItâs alright. You can take your time, I donât mind,â you said politely. And you didnât mind â whatever he had to say, you would wait around for years if you needed to in order to hear it. He ran a hand through his hair.
âIâll just come out with it, then!â he said, nodding determinedly before locking eyes with you, âI leave you.â
It suddenly felt like you were underwater, ears ringing. Your throat choked, and pathetic, childish tears blurred your vision. He was leaving. Inumaki, for whatever reason, was leaving. And not only was he leaving, he was leaving you in specific.
âR-really?â you said, forcing a smile, though you knew it was awfully unconvincing. âDid I do something wrong?â
âWhat?â He seemed embarrassed, now, averting his eyes, âNo, why would you think that?â
âWell, you just saidâŠâ you trailed off helplessly.
âOh. I thought you would be happy,â he said, his voice quiet, small, ashamed. He looked almost brokenhearted, though why he would be feeling hurt about this development, you could not be sure. He was the one making the choice to leave; you were the one fated to stay behind.
âWhy would I be happy about that?â you said. He was dejected when he spoke next.
âNever mind. I donâtâŠI donât know what I was thinking,â he said.
âIâll still support you,â you said, steeling yourself to flash him a watery smile, âI hope we can still be friends.â
âYes! Yes, please, please, I know I messed up by telling you this, but I donât want us to stop being friends,â he said.
âIâm glad you told me, though. Iâd rather not be left in the dark. Have you told anyone else yet?â you said.
âNo, though Iâm sure Panda suspects it,â he said before shifting uncomfortably to pull his blankets up and hide his face, âCan you, um, go? I want some time alone.â
âRight,â you said, âIâm glad youâre not hurt permanently.â
As you left, you thought you heard sniffles coming from the lump under the blanket, but if he really was crying, he gave you no other indication of it. You thought of lingering, of comforting him and asking him to comfort you, demanding he tell you the reason for his departure, but it was not your place. So, biting the inside of your cheek to hold your tears back, you marched towards Nobaraâs dorm.
âHe told you heâs leaving you?â she said, ten minutes later once you had explained to her the entire story. âHow odd. And he hasnât told anyone heâs transferring yet? Not even Gojo or Principal Yaga?â
âNo,â you said, finding solace in her warm embrace, the scent of roses that wafted off of her skin, âI just donât understand why heâs going.â
âItâs so strange. I mean, I really thought he liked you! Although, maybe he does. Think about it, youâre the first person heâs told, so clearly he trusts you a lot!â she said.
âYou donât have to lie to make me feel better,â you said, âRegardless as to his reasons, it remains that heâs leaving me. At least he said we can still be friends, though.â
âWait!â she said, and there was a conniving smirk on her face that spelled trouble, âI have an idea. Letâs throw a surprise going-away-party for him! Even if you donât confess, at least itâll show you care about him. And maybe weâll be able to figure out why heâs leaving and where heâs going, too.â
âWe have to do it before the end of the week, then, thatâs when Shoko estimates his cursed energy will be back to normal and he wonât be able to talk anymore,â you said.
âI doubt youâd be complaining about that, Miss Ingredients Fetish,â Nobara said.
âI donât have a fetish for ingredients!â you said, wriggling out of her hug and glaring at her.
âOh, really? So you wonât get all hot and bothered if I say âsalmon,â right?â she said.
âNo!â
âAre you sure?â
âYes, Nobara, Iâve never been surer of anything in my life,â you said.
âSalmon,â she said, panting dramatically and clutching her chest. You threw a pillow at her, knocking her off of the bed in a fit of laughter.
âYou suck,â you said.
âYou swallow,â she shot back.
âUgh! Youâre hopeless!â you said, throwing your hands in the air.
âIâll text the group chat to make plans for the party!â she said. You gave her the finger and stomped out of her room to go sit in your own and mope about the fact that Inumaki was leaving.
Really, this was probably a good thing. After all, with him gone, you didnât have to worry about him accidentally finding out about your crush. And maybe youâd even be able to move on, though you had no idea who at this school would measure up to Inumaki.
Nobaraâs plan was sound, though. A going away party would be perfect to wish him one final farewell â provided, of course, that you were able to keep it a secret from the boy. This was easier said than done, but you were determined. You would make Inumakiâs party an occasion to remember, but this meant you had to call in some help.
The first thing you did the next day was video call Okkotsu, who was currently in Africa, training with a sorcerer named Miguel. You had to track down Maki and beg her for his number; she had been very confused but had given it to you anyways.
This left you staring at your phone screen, praying he would pick up. Inumaki and Okkotsu were best friends, so it would be wrong to not tell the black-haired sorcerer about your plans. He also might have some insight as to where Inumaki was going and why he was leaving.
âHello?â Thankfully, Okkotsu picked up, looking extraordinarily confused. There were dark circles under his eyes and a katana strapped to his back. Despite the fact that he looked battle ready, he was just sitting on a couch and shoving chips in his mouth. âWho is this?â
âOkkotsu, sir! This is Y/N, Iâm one of the first years at Jujutsu Tech,â you said.
âOkay. Donât call me sir, itâs weird and Iâm only a year older than you. Is there a reason youâre calling me?â he said.
âYes, there is. See, Inumaki ââ you began before he cut you off.
âOhhh, youâre that Y/N! Yeah, yeah, I completely approve,â he said.
âDid Nobara already tell you?â you said.
âNo, Inumakiâs been telling me about this for months now! Whoâs Nobara?â he said.
âMonths? But we didnât even start planning until yesterday,â you said.
âHeâs been dreaming of this day since the beginning of the year, even video called me and everything! I donât think Iâve heard him say âsalmonâ as many times in a row ever before or since,â he said. Unbidden, you remembered Nobaraâs actions from yesterday and shivered before shaking your head to clear such thoughts from your mind.
âDo you know why heâŠyou know?â you said. If Inumaki really had been planning on leaving for so long, then certainly Okkotsu would know why. The boy hummed and nodded.
âYeah, for sure! But itâs a little weird if I say it, you know? Against the bro code or whatever, and itâd feel a bit too much like I was trying to slide in, which Iâm not! Just ask him, Iâm sure heâll be delighted to tell you. God, he must be so happy right now! I wish I could be there to see it,â he said.
âWell, thatâs actually why I called you. Iâm throwing a surprise party in honor of the occasion, and I was wondering if youâd be able to come, or at least video call in,â you said. Each word Okkotsu uttered was like a stab in the heart, further reinforcing the fact that Inumaki really, really, really didnât like you. Why else did he make plans to leave the literal day he had met you? You only wished he wouldâve gone sooner so that your feelings did not build up and compound from a simple admiration into something greater, something beautiful and untouchable yet twisted and cruel.
âSounds like a great time! Just video call me, Iâll be sure to pick up. And Iâll try to send something along as a gift, too! Damn, I know itâs not my news to be excited for, but it feels as though my heartâs going to burst!â he said, popping a final chip into his mouth before hanging up. You stared at the phoneâs black screen for a second, marvelling at how this short conversation had made you feel even worse about the status of your relationship with Inumaki.
Before, you had believed that the two of you were friends, at least. You both had gotten along well enough â you would train together and slip each other notes with book recommendations. He had told you his favorite restaurant and described exactly the meal you should order, and you had introduced him to your favorite television series. Yet with the latest revelations that your discussion with Okkotsu had brought about, it was clear that all of this was Inumaki doing the bare minimum to tolerate you until the day he could leave.
Maybe he was glad that he could speak, if only for a short time. It allowed him to tell you in no uncertain terms that he was going away. If only he had elaborated back then! If only he had said that he felt such a way about you from the very start instead of leading you on with candy-sweet platitudes and feigned affection.
With Okkotsuâs presence now confirmed (and a gift apparently on the way), you moved on to the next thing you had to do in order to prepare for the party: recruit the other second years.
You decided to start with Maki. Though she was seemingly brusque, she was also a caring girl, and you knew sheâd be thrilled to help throw a farewell party for one of her closest friends, even if she had not known he was leaving until just now.
As expected, she was properly enraged upon hearing the news.
âHeâs leaving? Leaving where, exactly? The only place heâll be going is hell, because Iâm about to punch him so hard that thatâs where heâll end up!â she said, balling her fists, a vein popping in her forehead.
âWoah, hey, Maki! I donât know where heâs going, but please donât confront him. I donât think he wants people knowing, and I want the party to be a surprise. He might get suspicious if he realizes that you know,â you said.
âStupid idiot, wonât even tell his own classmates that heâs going,â she muttered, âIâll keep your secret. But I will be committing violence at the party.â
âPlease donât!â you said, distressed at the thought, âI want him to have a fun final memory of Jujutsu Tech.â
Her eyes softened when she looked at you, and she nodded begrudgingly. âAlright. Your secret, and your party, are safe with me. I wonât tell a soul! Although, you knowâŠa surprise farewell party would be a great place to confess your feelings.â
âHow â how do you know about my feelings?â you said.
âFirstly, youâre not exactly subtle, the others are just really oblivious. Secondly, Nobara mayyyy have let something slip,â she said.
âIâm going to kill her,â you said.
âDonât,â she said.
âNo, Iâm seriously considering it,â you said.
âIf you do, Iâll ruin Inumakiâs party,â she threatened.
âFine!â you whined like a child, âIâm going to go talk to Panda.â
The large bear was asleep in the sun when you reached him. You nudged him with your foot in an attempt to get him to wake up; thankfully, he did, blinking his beetle-dark eyes open sleepily and sitting up when he saw you.
âPanda, I need your help,â you said seriously once you were sure that you had his undivided attention.
âWhatâs the matter?â he said.
âInumakiâs leaving, so Iâm throwing him a party,â you said. Panda furrowed his brow, clearly trying to process this development.
âHe is?â he finally said. You nodded, a small frown tugging at the corners of your lips.
âYeah, he literally told me as much! He was all like âI leave you,â and it was kind of upsetting, actually,â you said.
âHow interesting,â he said finally, and now there was mischief in his expression, âAnd you need my help with hosting a party?â
âI donât know how much of a party itâll be, exactly, I mean itâll only be the first and second years, but yes, basically,â you said. He chuckled, rubbing his paws together menacingly.
âExcellent. Yes, Iâd love to help! And itâs a surprise, right?â he said.
âYes?â you said. He looked almost evil at this point, baring his teeth in his version of a smirk.
âEven better.â
With the second years thusly recruited and the first years taken care of by Nobara (you wasnât sure what, exactly, she had over Fushiguro to convince him to join in on the festivities, but judging by the sour expression on his face when he RSVP'd to you, it had to be something), the guest list was complete. Panda assured you heâd get Inumaki to come without being obvious, and you were happy to entrust the task to him.
This left you to go shopping for party supplies, using Gojoâs credit card (Fushiguro had told you where it was hidden). You had convinced Nobara to stay behind, claiming that she needed to hold down the fort in your absence and get started on cleaning the room youâd use for the party. That was a lie, of course â you actually just didnât want to take her shopping with you. If she came, you wouldnât be back before midnight, and the party was supposed to be tonight.
âWhere are you going?â Inumaki said. You almost screamed at the sound of his voice; you hadnât expected him to just manifest out of nowhere, and especially not when you were trying to sneak out of the school in order to buy things for his surprise party.
âShopping!â you said.
âCan I come? I feel like things were kinda left off weirdly last time we spoke, and I hoped we could try to fix them,â he said. You were unused to hearing him speak so many words at once, and you were mesmerised for a second before you mentally slapped yourself out of it.
âNo! You cannot come. Sorry,â you said, feeling bad. You wanted nothing more than to talk with Inumaki, to talk and talk until your throat went dry and your words ran out, but if he saw what you were shopping for, then heâd catch on to the plan.
âOh. Is it because I told you â ?â
âAbsolutely not!â you yelped, cutting him off, not wanting him to get any ideas, âIâm shopping for personal things. Like tampons.â
âI donât really mind that,â he said shyly, âI donât think tampons are gross. I mean, theyâre only plastic and cotton. I just really want to talk with you.â
âSex toys!â you said.
âUm, what?â he said, taken aback. Your face was hot with embarrassment, but you needed him to understand that he was not allowed to come shopping with you. So you locked eyes with him and tried to repeat yourself.
âI am going shopping for, uh, you knowâŠI mean, you heard me!â you said.
âRight!â he said, and he was so completely red you almost called him Clifford, âIâll leave you to it, then! I guess we can talk later.â
You gave him a fake smile and a thumbs up, staying frozen in place until he had disappeared from sight. Then, with a wail, you called Nobara.
âI fucking told him I was shopping for sex toys!â you said, not even waiting for her to greet you like usual. There was a long silence on the other end of the line before someone cleared their throat.
âThis is Fushiguro,â he said. You promptly hung up and cursed your luck. You shouldâve sent Nobara to do the shopping. You really, reallyshouldâve sent Nobara.
That evening, as the sun set over the horizon and Panda distracted Inumaki, the rest of you decorated the room that Nobara and Yuji had cleared earlier in the day. Maki and Nobara were too busy whispering amongst each other to actually help, though, and you were hiding in the corner, too terrified of his reaction to even glance in Fushiguroâs direction. For his part, he did an excellent job of ignoring you, leaving him and Yuji to do the majority of the setting up.
When anxiety made it difficult to breathe, you began to fiddle with the projector, where Okkotsuâs face would be shown once he called in to the party. The green light was blinking, which meant that it was ready to go and was only waiting for you to connect your phone to it.
âItâs going to be fine,â Nobara soothed you, placing a hand on your shoulder, âI think heâll be thankful you planned something like this at all.â
âAnd I still think you should confess your feelings,â Maki said, adding her unwanted opinion, âSeriously! If he rejects you then it doesnât matter, because heâll just be leaving soon anyways. I think you should consider it.â
âSheâs right,â Nobara said, âHere, maybe thisâll motivate you.â
She leaned in until her lips were barely brushing against the shell of your ear, cool breath tickling against your neck.
âWhat are you doing?â you said, unamused. She pitched her voice lower before speaking.
âBonito flakes.â
âYou little â stop doing that! I do not have an ingredients fetish!â you shouted, hitting her shoulder repeatedly. She burst into raucous laughter, tears of mirth gathering along her lash line.
âIâm going to have to request you to please stop talking about your intimate life in front of me, please,â Fushiguro said uncomfortably, âI already know far more than I ever wanted to.â
âFushiguro, it wasnât like that, I was shopping for party supplies! I only said the other thing to throw Inumaki off the trail,â you said.
âOkay,â he said, obviously not believing you but allowing you to pretend, âWhatever you say.â
âShh! Panda and Inumaki are on their way!â Yuji said, interrupting the conversation by hushing all of you obnoxiously, âEveryone, positions!â
You all ducked behind various pieces of furniture, and one of Fushiguroâs Divine Dogs hit the light switch, plunging the room into darkness before it melted into the shadows once more.
A second later, the door creaked open, revealing Inumaki and Pandaâs silhouettes standing in the frame. From beside you, Nobara began to giggle, and you pinched her in an effort to get her to shut up. It worked, although it did have the unfortunate consequence of her pinching you back.
âWhatâs going on here?â Inumaki said, turning the lights on. As soon as he did, you all (with the exception of Fushiguro, of course) leapt out at him. He fell backwards in surprise, staring up at you through thick lashes.
âSurprise!â Yuji said.
âItâs not my birthday?â Inumaki said.
âDo you see a cake anywhere?â Nobara said, âThis isnât a birthday party, itâs a farewell party!â
âA farewell party? But who are we saying farewell to?â Inumaki said in confusion.
âYou. Did you think we wouldnât care about your departure? You idiot, weâre going to miss you so much!â Maki said, sniffing and wiping away a tear.
âLetâs all go around and share our favorite memories with Inumaki,â Yuji said. Inumaki seemed dumbfounded, so Nobara took the initiative to respond.
âThatâs a great idea! Iâll go first â I really enjoyed the one time he let me paint his nails,â she said.
âI donât have any good memories,â Fushiguro deadpanned, âBut if I had to pick a tolerable one, it would be when I convinced him to use his Cursed Speech on Nanami.â
âI remember that!â Maki said, howling in laughter, âAnd I canât pick a favorite memory. We just have too many good ones.â
âSame!â Yuji said, and he was bawling now for some reason, âYouâre just so cool, Inumaki! Iâm so sad that youâre going!â
âY/N, what about you?â Maki said.
âConfess! Confess! Confess!â Nobara chanted, not even trying to be subtle about it anymore.
âBe quiet!â you said.
âDo it or Iâll do it for you!â she said. You looked around at the audience; they all seemed interested, even Fushiguro. Though you wanted to talk to Inumaki in a bit more of a private setting, Nobara and Maki were right in that this was the perfect time to say something. So, taking a deep breath, you faced the boy.
âInumaki,â you said, âI know that Iâve been acting weird recently, ever since you told me youâll be going, but thatâs because I donât want you to. See, the truth is that I love you. I think I have for a while now, and Iâm going to miss you, and I donât want you to go, so please donât. Please stay.â
He blinked. âHuh? What do you mean? I never said I was going anywhere.â
âYes you did!â you said, pointing at him accusingly, âI remember it! That day in the infirmary!â
âI didnât say I was going anywhere, I said I leave you!â he said.
âThatâs the same thing!â you said indignantly, âYouâre getting upset about semantics when I just confessed that I love you, idiot! Doesnât that even mean anything to you?â
âNo? Iâve never heard of that word before!â he said.
âLove? Youâve never heard of love before?â you said. He shook his head.
âNope,â he said.
âL-O-V-E. Love. That rings no bells?â you said. His face suddenly went snow-white.
âL-O-V-E is pronouncedâŠlove?â he said.
âHow the hell else would it be pronounced?â you snapped, feeling far too bewildered and irritated to soften your words. How could he have treated your feelings so flippantly? How did he just not understand love?
Inumaki suddenly found the floor incredibly fascinating. â...leave.â
âWhat?â You said.
âWhat?â he said innocently.
âOH MY GOD!â Nobara squealed, catching on far quicker than you, âYou both are idiots!â Finally, you began to understand, and then you were inclined to agree with her.
âSo youâre not going anywhere?â you checked.
âNo, Iâm not,â he said.
âHe hasnât been able to speak for practically his entire life,â Panda said, shoulders shaking with laughter, âCan you blame him if he mispronounces a couple of words now and then? Itâs not like anybodyâs ever corrected him before.â
Mispronounced words. He had mispronounced one of the simplest words in the English language, and it had led to all of this.
âYouâre not leaving,â you said again, drawing closer to him, âYouâre not leaving me.â
âI wonât ever leave you if you donât want me to,â he said, wrapping his arms around you in a warm hug.
âDonât,â you said, âPlease donât.â
âI love you. Thatâs what I meant to say all along,â he said.
âI guess I threw this whole party for nothing, then,â you said, hiding your face in his shirt.
âIs this what you were shopping for earlier? NotâŠthe other things?â he said.
âYeah. It was just a surprise, so I didnât want you coming along,â you said, feeling bashful at how entirely silly the entire affair had ended up being. He let out a warm, gentle laugh that caused his chest to vibrate against your cheek.
âItâll be hard, you know. Once this week is over, Iâll be back to only speaking in rice ball ingredients,â he warned.
âThatâs probably for the best. Less room for misinterpretation,â you said.
âPlus, she has an ingredients fetish!â Nobara chimed in. You withdrew from the safety of Inumakiâs shirt to scowl at her.
âEnough with the ingredients fetish!â
A knock at the door interrupted the tense showdown; Panda opened it to reveal a delivery man, who was holding a package and fidgeting, probably out of fear, considering he was face to face with a giant, sentient panda.
âI have a package from an Okkotsu Yuta, addressed here?â he said. You slapped your forehead.
âShit, I forgot about him! Thank you,â you said, accepting the box and then quickly calling Okkotsu.
âHey, guys!â he said cheerily. His phone must have been set up against the wall of a building or something, because it showed him busy using his katana to exorcise curses and not even breaking a sweat, âSorry, this isnât a great time, but congratulations on getting together! I hope you like your present â hey! Stay away from the iPhone!â The screen abruptly went dark as a curse swiped at Okkotsuâs cell phone, knocking it down while the sorcerer snarled.
âOpen the present!â Yuji said excitedly.
Inside of the box were two bright pink t-shirts. Both of them had white lettering on them â one said Iâm Okkotsu Yutaâs Best Friend Foreverand the other said Iâm Okkotsu Yutaâs Girlfriend-in-Law.
You all stared at them, expressions varying from amusement to delight to horror. You didnât even question how Okkotsu had known that you and Inumaki would confess to each other. Clearly, he already thought you both were together, so it was really just divine timing in that sense.
Somewhere in Africa, Okkotsu finished exorcising the curses and sheathed his katana, casting aside his jacket to reveal a bright pink shirt that said on it in white lettering, Iâm Okkotsu Yuta.
âMaybe theyâll let me third wheel,â he mused to himself, âI mean, they had better, considering how hard these shirts were to find at the thrift store.â

(also feel free in the tags to clarify Why you made the choice you made!! :0c)
#polls#tumblr polls#For me I think the top ones would be the House. The Money. or the Friend Group. But I ultimately might would go for the house#JUST becuase it would be my Dream House which means it would already meet mostly all of my specifications#and what I might be looking for. which would save a lot of time searching or customizing/rennovating.#Also because I could use that as a way to leave the US lol.. like .. if I get to choose my dream location.. couldnt I just choose some othe#country?? But I wonder how that works. Can you legally 100% have full ownership of a property in a country yet not be a citizen of that#country?? Would you show up and be like 'erm.. i own this house.. so i shall now live in it' and theyd be like 'uh no. you cant live here#despite owning the house. leave.' ??#So I think the initial process of 1. scraping together funds to actually MOVE myself and my most valuable belongings physically#TO another country. and 2. figuring out how to STAY in that country . might end up being difficult.. BUT. if I could just work that#part of things out then.. dream house?? security for once in my life?? stability?? :0#Though the $1mil is enticing it's also like.. I feel .. with the way housing prices are now... that's not much???#it's a lot I guess if you plan on like.. investing half the money and staying in an apartment for 5 years while you grow your wealth#or something. but if you're a 'I Need Stability NOW' ready to settle down person who would be most interested in owning a property rather#than nice clothes or a car or whatever other investments you could make then.. eh..?? It seems like unless you're okay with living in#a small town or kind of far away from the city - even some SMALL houses in majorly populated areas in the US will be like#$600.000 - $900.000 or something. like that would be MOST of my money. Which I know you could just pay partially and make#payments on it but idk.. in the option of just outright owning the house it seems like it'd end up being cheaper.#Plus I would want to own it fully asap because I'd be afraid of losing it somehow otherwise. like it being taken for medical bills or#something. which I thought was supposed to be - not IMPOSSIBLE - slightly more complicated legally if you actually have#paid off the house in full. I guess the issue then would be utilities and property tax and such. But I feel like thats overcome-able??#Like I could just stipulate that my Dream House has a little furnished addition or something and then find someone#with money and be like 'Look you can live in this extremely nice area with amazing ameneties and updated everything and ALL you have#to do is give me money to cover the utilities and property tax.'' or something like that. Like the little furnished addition is nicer#than the actual house. they have their own pool and spa and movie room or something and Ill also cook all their meals for them#or whatever (how luxurious it would be depeneds on how high the property tax actually is/how much I would need to entice them into#why it's a good deal for them to pay it for me lol). idk... something like that.. ANYWAY#I asked a few people I know though and one of them answered they'd rather have a romantic partner. the other one said they'd like#to be able to choose someone to die lol.. So I'm curious what people value the most

I know youâre probably super busy but I HAVE to share this with someone. I found this absolutely insane shirt at my job (thrift store) and itâs been killing me to imagine Silco in it

You can't drop something like this to my askbox and not expect me to draw something
Moms usually drop the kids off to their playdate, time for the dads to meet.
#my art#sketchy sketch#answering stuff#arcane#silco#vi#arcane powder#caitlyn#and her dad#who...has a name?#he must be the only actually good dad#vander is kinda#anyway aoshasoiu I had to draw this the instant I saw that shirt#thank you for sharing#it's silco's day off#powder uses the opportunity to ditch the playdate and hang out with dad#that's my queue to leave

It's worth noting that there are some extraordinary people in the world who have been quietly doing the work for decades, and they should be celebrated with all the fervor that we denounce the villains. I first read about Harrison twenty-odd years ago, when he'd already been doing this for about fifty years, and this is one of those guys whose life can, indeed, be summed up by his headline.
James Harrison saved millions of lives. Millions. Not with anything flashy or dramatic, not with profound speeches or brilliant strategy or any of the things we insist are the ways to impact the world. He simply kept himself as healthy as possible so that every few weeks he could go and sit quietly in a room and give away a fundamental part of himself â quite literally his lifeblood â to people he'd never meet, for no pay and no expectation of acknowledgement. (He was, it should be said, acknowledged quite a lot per this article, but that's beside the point.)
When we talk about the kind of people we want to elevate and celebrate in our societies, I often think of people like James Harrison. I hope we get more of him; not just for his blood, but for his heart.
#it's incredibly sad that he passed#though at 88 I'd say that's a pretty good run#but I wanted to highlight this guy who you might not have known about#as one of the people who were out there doing the work#there isn't always glory or glamor in doing the work#but there is satisfaction#and I think Harrison more than many people on the planet died satisfied#that he had done what he could in this world before leaving it#anyway

i'll be honest thinking about las vegas makes me nauseous.
#emyrs.txt#like about the environment.#also it just freaks me out a little.#like that one tma ep about being in the suburbs forever.#being there makes me feel trapped. idk it's silly but i always feel like i'm in a glass jar or something.#if i need to leave I Wouldnt Be Able To. you know. at least not quickly#which is true about other cities as well but las vegas specifically. theres nothing around for miles. it freaks me out#also it stresses me out to think about the waste the city generates. worry not i stress out about LA doing thag as well but we're not in#the middle of the desert.#i think its just bc being in a landlocked state freaks me out. many such cases.

âmy love,â nanami calls, stepping into the living room with wrinkled pjs and damp hair. youâre laying on the couch, mindlessly scrolling through one of your various shopping appsâ spring sales have you adding everything to your cart.
âyes?â you reply, craning your neck to meet his gaze. he lifts your legs, sitting where they were resting before lowering them back down, in his lap. he smells like water and clean laundryâ itâs familiar and comforting.
warm hands rest on your calves, you put your phone down to give him your full attention.
âyou have my debit card on your phone and wallet,â he starts, âyou know that, right?â
you nod slowly, giving him a confused look. âi know.â
âyou havenât used it at all. i just checked my statement.â he says, âdidnât i tell you to buy whatever you want?â
âyou did,â you smile, almost laughing at the situation. âand iâm grateful, always, that you offer to pay for my things, but i have my own money too, kenâ also! i did use it, actually.â
he rolls his eyes, not malicious, of course. âyeah, for boba. twice. do you know how many shopping bags youâve hauled into this house the past month?â
heâs being sarcastic and you laugh. this has always been something you guys quarrel about, kento giving you all his money and assets, immediately throwing his card whenever you mention something you like. âwhy do you want me to spend your money so bad?â
kento pouts, just slightly, itâs barely even noticeable.
âiâm grateful, baby,â you say, âbut you already pay for so muchâ this house, my car insurance, the bills and date nights⊠iâm already spending quite a lot, no?â
âyou can spend more,â he pouts, âwhat i pay for already is nothingâ i want to buy you more, for you to have everything you want.â
âi already have everything i want,â you tease, âheâs actually sitting in front of me, kindly massaging my calves.â
he narrows his gaze, a smile twitching onto his lips.
âweâre going to the mall this weekendâ the far one,â he decides, âwe havenât been to the mall together for a while, love. i wonder why is that?â
you hum, avoiding his gaze, âmaybe because the last time we went, you secretly took my wallet out of my purse and hid it in your underwear drawer so you could pay for everything?â
he laughs, recalling the moment. âi am absolutely doing that againâ also, i saw that app you were scrolling on, let me see what you have, iâll get it for you.â
notes from mei! i do have a shopping addiction actually (im dirt poor rn and in withdrawal) but i see my future (this fic) and its so so bright

You're just not toxic enough.
#the apothecary diaries#maomao#jinshi#When she loves poison as much as she does...this really isn't as big of an insult as it may seem.#'I'd rather poison myself' from a girl who genuinely wants to eat the poison? Not bad!#This was a thank you gift for a friend who helped me out of a tough situation. I hope you enjoy this!#I am so sorry I still haven't finished season one yet. I promise I'll get to it eventually.#Maomao is a really fun protagonist and as a mystery lover - the detective plots she finds herself in are very enjoyable.#Even if she doesn't want to be part of them. Girl who just wants to mind her own business but keeps getting hired to snoop around.#Jinshi is a great character in his own right. He is also a wet little clown that I want to wring out and leave in the sun to dry.#Man...now I want to finish season one...I miss them...

Robin!Jason, who constantly references different books at random times by quoting them and joking about characters, except Bruce doesn't have much time to read everything that Jason goes through. Of course, he understands some nods towards classics, but Jason is an avid reader, so it is hard to keep up with him sometimes. Jason tries to drag him to watch some movie adaptations, but he falls asleep in the very beginning of it.
And then Jason dies.
Bruce goes through all his library obsessively to the point he remembers the page of every little bookmark Jason left, and he knows his little notes on the margins by the heart. He watches movie adaptations, too, even though Jason only ever watched it to hate on them. He finds new books, books he thinks Jason would like if he was alive, and reads them, imagining what kind of analysis would Jason finalise by the end of it; his opinion not always matches with Jason's, but that doesn't matter. Bruce just likes to imagine.
Years pass, and Jason returns to Gotham. Not as a boy Bruce missed so much. Or, at least, he thinks so.
But then Jason does some bitter, irritated reference, comparing them to characters of one of the books he had on his shelf, and Bruce catches himself thinking... well, they still think similarly, but the conclusion they drew had always differed from each other. It is a different situation, of course, but... but maybe he could try to make this work.
Because, if anything, Bruce is tired of imagining. Especially, not when he finally has a chance to get everything back.
On the next day after their fight, someone sends Jason a copy of a new book from his favourite author - the one that he still hadn't read - his old set of colourful bookmarks, and a little note.
Let me know what you think.
Bruce gets the book back in a week, full of frantic notes, a bunch of bookmarks, and a short note explaining what each colour means (a mystery he didn't resolve years ago, after he passed away).
And, oh, God. He completely forgot how fast Jason read sometimes.
#Jason: ...tell me that when you read my books you weren't leaving dog-eared bookmarks.#Bruce: ahaha... uh#Bruce: chump... chump PUT THE GUN BACK I AM SORRY#is that... hurt/comfort attempt from ME#related to bruce and jason???????????#yeah i am surprised too lol#jason todd#red hood#dcu comics#dc universe#dcu#batman#bruce wayne#batfamily#batfam

Any tips for being a suicidal 15 year old?
When I was a suicidal 15 year old everyone told me âit gets betterâ, and it sounded like bullshit. And frankly, it still sounds like bullshit. Like oh, what, Iâm living in hell and youâre not gonna help me or *do* anything or give me any useful advice and Iâm supposed to just hang in there on the nebulous, pithy promise that things are just gonna work out on their own? And you canât tell me how or why, Iâm just supposed to take it on the faith that I donât have that something might change in ways I havenât considered?
But yeah. It does. And itâs frustrating as hell.
Yes, things are gonna get better, and theyâre gonna get better in ways I canât describe even after experiencing it myself. Things you donât even know CAN be different WILL be different. One day youâre just going to step outside and realize things got better somewhere and you didnât even notice it happening.
And thereâs really nothing I can say that makes that sound even a little bit believable.
I guess all I can tell you is that you have to want to believe it.
#Sorry I canât give you more than that#But itâs true#And if it helps to hear#you havenât really had the chance to LIVE yet#Do you really want to cancel a subscription to a service you havenât used?#Maybe check out the features first#You really have nothing to lose#And you may never get a second shot#Thereâs a lot of cool shit out here#like this is the COOLEST PLANET#Weâve got glowing bugs and music and pasta#No other place in the whole universe has Mario Party or cats or the harmonica#There are some things you should see before you leave#All I do is keep looking for things#Would you go to Paris and just stay in the airport?#Of course not#At least get a croissant#take some stupid tourist pictures#buy a keychain#SOMETHING
