filo girly request for oscar 🧍🏻♀️🫶🏼
im thinking of a scenario where reader is part of a love team and oscar gets jealous or she gets questions when shes on a show it interview about him and they love her and oscar together if a fc is needed i love atasha mulach's vibe
𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 — oscar piastri x reader
summary: oscar’s girlfriend is a celebrity and has an on-screen partner. when she gets asked about her and oscar’s relationship during an interview, what is she gonna say?
content warnings: none, just fluff. (not proofread sorry </3)
this fic contains tagalog phrases and words highlighted in italics. for non-filipino readers, translations are provided in small text. *(mahal = love)
── .✦
It’s 3 in the morning in Silverstone, and Oscar couldn’t sleep.
Maybe it’s because he arrived a few hours ago and can’t bring himself to rest, or maybe it’s because his girlfriend had an interview on the other side of the globe.
Oscar’s girlfriend is a celebrity in the Philippines, Y/N Y/L/N. She’s had multiple projects, endorsements, and films that have also gone global. Before getting into this relationship, Oscar knew the consequences that he would have to face— long distance, media, and other factors.
But he loved her. That’s what mattered the most, right?
Not until Y/N recently had a TV series that went viral, as she was paired with one of the most famous actors in Filipino TV. Their chemistry was undeniable— weeks after her TV series was released, she was all over the news along with her on-screen partner. There were fan accounts, edits, and even fanfiction about them.
Everytime a new post was written about them, Oscar’s jealousy grew. Although Y/N always reassured him that it was strictly on-screen, He really couldn’t help it.
Oscar’s thoughts stopped when he felt his phone vibrate on his chest.
my love 💞: hi, mahal! i know you’re still up. my interview is almost gonna start. watch me?
my love 💞 has sent a link.
my love 💞: there’ll be a monitor in front of us during the interview. i’ll be able to see it on screen once you’ve joined, okay? i love you!
Oscar smiled.
mahal 🩷: okay babe, i’ll be joining in a few. goodluck!
Oscar sat up and reached out for his laptop which was on the desk, opened it up and clicked on the link she sent.
The show was already starting, the hosts greeting the crowd both in the studio and livestream.
Y/N and her on-screen partner were introduced. Once they both entered, the crowd went wild, cheering for them with their ship name. Oscar looked at the livestream comments and sighed, everyone was crazy for them.
The show went on as usual, asking them about the TV series and how filming was going. Eventually, the hosts asked about their personal lives.
“So Y/N, We’re aware that you’re dating F1 driver Oscar Piastri. Kamusta naman kayo?”
(So Y/N, We’re aware that you’re dating F1 driver Oscar Piastri. How are you guys doing?)
Y/N smiled and let out a nod, “We’re doing really well. Actually, kakapanalo lang nya last week in the Austrian Grand Prix. I was there and I couldn’t have been more proud.”
(We’re doing really well. Actually, he recently won last week in the Austrian Grand Prix. I was there and I couldn’t have been more proud.)
The hosts smiled and fawned over their relationship, “I’m sure he’s proud of your career too. But we’re curious, hindi ba siya nag seselos? For sure aware naman siya sa love team nyo.”
(I’m sure he’s proud of your career too. But we’re curious, does he get jealous? For sure he’s aware about your love team.)
The studio crowd cood and Oscar’s heart started beating.
Y/N let out a small laugh, it was a common question that people asked her since their relationship was public.
“Hindi naman siya nag seselos, I wish.”
(He doesn’t really get jealous, I wish.)
She humored, and the rest laughed. Oscar laughed too at her response, assuming that it was something funny since he couldn’t understand.
“All jokes aside, hindi naman siya nag seselos. He knows very well that strictly for work lang yung ginagawa ko. He’s the best boyfriend I could ever ask for.”
(All jokes aside, he doesn’t really get jealous. He knows very well that what I’m doing is strictly for work. He’s the best boyfriend I could ever ask for.)
One of the hosts asked, “Do you have any message for him?”
Y/N cleared her throat, “Hi, mahal! I know you’re watching right now kahit sobrang late na diyan. Thank you for always being very supportive, you know how much I love you. I can’t wait to see you on Sunday!”
(Hi, love! I know you’re watching even if it’s super late over there. Thank you for always being very supportive, you know how much I love you. I can’t wait to see you on Sunday!)
The crowd smiled and teased, clapping at her message.
Oscar was smiling from ear-to-ear, and somehow, he wasn’t as jealous anymore. He saw the livestream commenting on their relationship and how cute they were. Maybe he shouldn’t be jealous after all.
The show eventually ended and Oscar closed his laptop, returning it on his desk. He opened his phone and sent Y/N a message.
mahal 🩷: you know i’ll always be here for you, right? no matter what time it is where i’m in.
my love 💞: i know, mahal. and i know you’re jealous too 😆
Oscar laughed, maybe he was bad at hiding it.
mahal 🩷: maybe i was a bit jealous.
my love 💞: oscar jack piastri, you literally have my heart and you’ll always have it. okay?
He smiled. God, he loves her so much.
mahal 🩷: i know, and i’ll do everything in my power to keep it safe. i love you ❤️
my love 💞: go to sleep, i know you’re getting tired, mahal. i love you too! see you on sunday ❤️
Oscar gave her message a heart react before turning off his phone.
And off he drifted to sleep, knowing that he was the luckiest man on earth that night.

Thank you @morelikeravenbore for the tag! I love answering these kind of questions and I loved reading through your answers!
I know I'm hardly known here on Tumblr, but that's fine. For those of my followers who are interested and because I find it fun to do, here are my answers to the following questions!
How many works do you have on AO3? I have 21 works. Most of them are oneshots or oneshot collections, but I also have a trilogy and a currently ongoing chaptered story.
What's your total AO3 word count? Uhh.. *checks* 429.608. Most of them are from the trilogy.
What fandoms do you write for? On AO3 I only write for the Hogwarts Legacy fandom. A long time ago I wrote for the f(x)/EXO/SHINee fandom on Asianfanfics, but I have deleted that account.
Top five fics by kudos? Oh, I'll have to look that up.. hm, alright:
1. In the Shadow of Sixth year (97)
2. In the Shadow of Seventh year (68)
3. A Naughty Collection - Hogwarts Legacy (48)
4. Sense of Touch (44)
5. In the Shadow of Summer (43)
Do you respond to comments? Yes! I try to respond to every comment, but I must admit sometimes I'm not able to respond right away and I might forget to, but I think I have responded to nearly every comment on AO3. I live for comments and am always happy when someone took their time to write one.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't like angsty endings, but "Happier" does have an angsty/unhappy ending. Together with "You look Happier". Both are oneshots I wrote to the song "Happier" by Olivia Rodrigo and "Happier" by Ed Sheeran respectively.
What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hm.. considering all that happens in my trilogy, I'd say "In the Shadow of Seventh year", which is the final part, ends the happiest.
Do you get hate on fics? Not really. Only on one, but I still think that must've been a troll. They hated Poppy, yet commented on a oneshot that was Poppy centric (literally her and Ominis were the only characters in it). Other than that, no. Not that I am aware of at least.
Do you write smut? Yes. Though I don't write it in my chaptered stories. At most I'll have it heavily implied or some non-explicit foreplay. For my trilogy I made two seperate oneshots to write the smut. That way I leave the choice to the reader if they want to read that or not. It's not needed for the plot anyway.
Craziest crossover? None.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know. It's despicable some people actually do that.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Not for this fandom, but back in the day on Asianfanfics a couple of my oneshots were translated in Vietnamese and Tagalog.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, but if someone would want to, I'd be open for it.
All time favorite ship? Ominis x Poppy or Poppinis. When I first heard Poppy tell us about her family my immediate thought was like: I wonder what Ominis would think of that? And somehow that got me into shipping them and now I'm obsessed in love with them as a couple. And fun fact: it was my shipping them that got me into writing again after not having done so in over 8 years.
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have a lot of ideas, but only few of those I have started on. I tend to delete WIP's that I don't want to finish and the ones I do want to finish, I'll make sure to finish lol.
What are your writing strengths? Good question! But I think I'm good with writing certain emotions/feelings to the point the reader gains empathy for the character... other than that I really don't know. I try to be consistent with updates, do my research (to an extent) and try not to make any continuation errors.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I am totally fine with that (though I probably will never write it myself), as long as the correct phrasing is used and that the reader understands (or at least gets an idea) of what is being said.
But I do think it reads easier when the writer uses Italics to underline when a character speaks another language.
First fandom you wrote in? F(x) (Kpop group) back in 2012.
Favorite fic you've written? Definitely my trilogy "Shadows of Love" that consists of Part 1 "In the Shadows of Sixth year", Part 2 "In the Shadows of Summer" and Part 3 "In the Shadows of Seventh year".
The first part was my very first chaptered fic and the fact that I didn't only finish it, but wrote two more parts (25 chapters for the 1st part, 7 chapters for the 2nd and 45 chapters for the 3rd) and two smut oneshots accompanying it has been a major achievement for me and it really is my baby.
Special shoutout for my friends on Discord who supported and inspired me to continue! As well as all the readers (silent or not) who made me want to keep powering through! I love all of you!
Thank you for whoever it was that made up these questions! I had a great time thinking about them and answering! As well as look through the stats of my works haha.

Crow and TF141 Headcanons: First Time Meeting
This is just random headcanons/scenarios with Crow and TF141 if what it was like meeting you and/or getting used to you after.
Extra: Crow was ( kinda is ) supposed self insert with a backstory ( of how she became who she is ), but just decided last minute to be a (y/n).
Info: She/her pronouns, afab!reader, filipina ( gotta rep us man )
DOES ANYONE KNOW THEIR AGES??? I NEED TO KNOW
➥ You were the newest addition and let’s say you scared the shit out of Gaz when you first met, you were walking with Price and ( magically ) lost him
➥ Price and the rest of 141 found you towering over Gaz who just had a heart attack on the floor you apologized by panicking internally
➥ The first few weeks for you were hell; you desperately wanted to go home or switch to another teams, they freaked the shit out at you bcs of how massive they were
➥ You didn’t speak much just a few short phrases and you’d scurry off to your quarters or training grounds, you were just scared of them
➥ Over the next few months you got used to them and started chatting with them; it lead to some playful arguments and pranks
➥ TF141 get so intrigued when you start speaking in your mother tongue, you speak unintentionally since you grew up speaking (Bisaya/Tagalog) with your family
➥ Your accent still lingers, you can loose your accent when you want to, but your accent comes back on when you forget your American accent
➥ Soap and you teaching each other phrases you laugh sometimes because his accent is so heavy when he pronounces words and with you, you just can’t understand nothing he says to you
➥ Your good at sniping and hand to hand combat and you train with Ghost— which you both enjoy each others company ; you both tend to choose each other for training or coincidentally get paired up
➥ After being with them for months, you grew to love them and they mean so much to you
➥ You are extremely hospitable or have motherly vibe; they wanted something, you got it. Want some food, you got. Need a shoulder to cry in, you’re there. Need someone to train with, you’re ready.
➥ If you are older than them, they tend to mess around and call you grandma and Price grandpa, but you told them to call you lola
➥ If you are younger however, they keep an eye on you— you can take care of yourself very well, they just love you sm— and will beat the shit out of anyone
➥ Your love language are quality time and touch— with a hint of acts of service
➥ You and Gaz listen to music together and talk about favorites artist, Soap and you joke around playing pranks and what not, you teach Ghost how to cook some food from your culture, you help Price with his work in his office
➥ When you and Alejandro met, he was about on his toes with you, though TF141 tells them not to worry you were good
➥ You both hit it off so well, you understand each other a little bit, so language barrier wasn’t too much of a problem
➥ You and Ale cooked together— sometimes had a cook offs it bake offs and make Rudy the judge along with the task force
➥ You ask Rudy to teach you more Spanish so you can be ✨ trilingual ✨

Kumusta! First off, I'd just like to say you're a super big inspiration when it comes to learning about Filipino culture! It's cool to see someone in a similar position be able to accomplish a bunch and all of your resources have been super helpful. If you don't mind me asking, would you mind sharing what your process with learning Tagalog was like when you first started out? For example, how did you start out learning vocab or other skills? (sorry, i know this a super basic question)
Kumusta! Salamat sa tanong mo. The process went like this:
Basic grammar using text books and YouTube videos.
Vocabulary via constant reading & listening. I used fan fiction, songs, YouTube videos, shows etc. For the first 2-3 months I did not understand more than a few words but if you persevere you’ll see slow but rewarding progress.
I wrote down & repeated aloud words that would frequently be used. More importantly I wrote them with context; I used the words in sentences, not just in isolation.
As for “other skills”, I’m not sure what you mean exactly but I hope this can help you:
Speaking - I talk to myself a lot lol. I also talk to my Filipino friends
Writing - I wrote about my everyday life & thoughts in a journal using Tagalog & I texted my filo friends.
In summary:
learn basic grammar then focus on input; reading & listening.
Use methods you enjoy by incorporating your hobbies into language learning like how I used fanfiction and music.
Keep in mind the context of each word/ phrase
Bonus: know the context you want to use Tagalog/ your target language in because this will affect what vocab you need to learn. For example if you want to use Tagalog in a casual setting, you will need to take on a very different approach than a learner who wants to use Tagalog for work/business.

🌻 If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not! Let's get to know the person behind the blog 🌻
okay!! so number one, i love to sing! (and i'm ngl sometimes i can sing the lyrics very very wrong PAHAHA)
numero dos, my biggest writing "turn on" in fanfiction, you could say, is in-character depictions of said character! when it's so perfectly on the dot for their personality/humour, or when you can definitely see the character doing the action/saying the words in the fic, i LIVE for that stuff!
and finally! i'm part filipino :)
i know a lot of my mooties are Filipino too and i must admit, i love being able to read the little rants they have in the tags or smth in tagalog, tis a little secret thing i do 🫣 .. unfortunately though, i can only read/understand it, i wouldn't be able to write back in perfect tagalog :')
bonus fact; i do spanish in school and i love it so so much me encanto hablando español (idk if i said that right, if it's one thing i can never get right it's the phrasing LMAO)
haha thank you for this kane! twas very fun <3

Most random thing today but I noticed that the salesman at the shop I saw this bag at was Filipino
(Bag in question)
(No I didn’t get it it’s a kids bag and 135 SAR I’m not blowing my money on that… I think.)
And when I decided I wouldn’t get it I realised wait he’s Filipino
I turned to my mum and quickly asked her what thank you was in Tagalog bc I forgot and she told me
I nodded politely at him and said I had changed my mind, but salamat!
I turned to leave but he called out asking where I was from and I looked back and he looked really surprised and pleased I think
My mum and I hurriedly explained we were from England but Filipino
Idk it’s just sorta funny, I’ve actually been too nervous to use any Arabic even though I have known exactly what to say in a lot of situations (maybe I’ll get more confident over the days Insha’Allah) but being surrounded by so many people from so many different countries I feel this need to…. Idk something about, I want to show a little respect and courtesy to their culture. I feel incredibly curious and incredibly… I don’t know the word but maybe something along the lines of friendliness? Even towards colder treatment I mean I feel like it’s a bit understandable, I’m too English and Filipino but I understand the basic annoyance with dealing with foreigners who don’t know your culture or language. I mean yes we’re all joined by the culture of Islam so that’s something really good and connecting but it feels… off to me, to not make more of an effort to know the culture
And I also know Filipinos appreciate that a lot because I’m Filipino and if I were him I would be pleasantly surprised to hear my language from a customer I just wasn’t expecting him to be as cheerful as he was XD Filipino spirit I guess
After today I’ve gotten a pretty good idea of a lot of the key phrases I can work on in Arabic so I can at least try speaking a little and just in general try to learn a few key phrases in Tagalog and Indonesian as well, like “excuse me” and “thank you” and “do you need help?”. I’d try to for Desi languages but idk how to be polite in Desi 💀 also. I don’t dare try speaking with my accent publicly.
#star speaks#I really feel more eager than ever to learn languages#I wish I’d gone in for linguistics 😂

[MOTHER TONGUE] For bilingual muses: does your character think in one particular language more than another? Are there certain topics or themes that they may be more likely to switch to another?- any muse
thought, learning, & intellect headcanons
i actually only have a handful of bilingual muses, so i'ma list em all lol
PAVATI tends to think / react in her primary language, spanish, more often than not. depending on the topic of conversation & how emotionally charged it is, she does away with english completely — she's not completely fluent in english just yet & still says some phrases improperly, so it's easier to just relay an idiom or statement in spanish first then embarrass herself. unless she's pissed off. then she doesn't care how wrong she is.
ILYSSA is technically bilingual i guess, if dead biblical language counts? the entity doesn't really think with an internal voice, though — she's more prone to just saying what she's thinking out loud. she hasn't spoken in her dead tongue in years either unless she's speaking with other angels or speaking of the creator. (which is never.)
LOURDES was raised speaking both english & spanish in her house, so it's all purely situational. if she's around her mother's family, then she does speak, think, react, etc. in spanish as english is a rarity. when among friends, though, lourdes tends to use english — though, she will repeat an idiom or a phrase to describe specific topics or to (im)politely tell you that you're a dumbass or something.
RUE was also raised speaking both english & spanish as well as patois; however, she thinks in spanish. she only speaks spanish or patois when she's around other speakers of that language, or if she's completely shitfaced drunk.
IZIDORA primarily speaks english, but she does occasionally think or speak in tagalog as long as it relates to her family. now that she's back at home and with her nanang or her cousin sampaguita (aka shah, for those who know her lore), she's able to speak the language more often with someone who understands what she's saying. she's almost fluent now & does want to speak tagalog more often! but she mostly just uses curse words, specific terms of endearment, literal curses / blessings as it relates to her magic, or because she's just learned a word & is trying to associate it by using it more frequently.
CHARON speaks hundreds of language. a lot of them are dead. she does think in different languages if the situation calls for it, but unless she's around other vampires who also know a vast amount of languages or she happens to be conversing with a native of that language, she speaks english — albeit, it's extremely proper & stuffy.
JHIYA speaks greek! but she's not great at it, so everything's in english.

(Y/n's P.O.V)
“You alright bub? You seem nervous?” I turned back to look at Chris, his hands slightly shaking while holding onto the suitcase.
“Is that even a question? i’m meeting and living with your family for a month babe, im shitting bricks” He huffed out as he moved forward in the passport control line, the Philippine heat being blocked out by the air conditioning.
“Listen they’re going to love you, they already approved of you through skype bub” I said softly, brushing back some of his hair away from his forehead.
“I guess so, i’m just happy to be here with you baby”
“Me too hun”
(Skipping border control)
Walking towards the arrivals lounge, I could already see the family members of other passengers waiting there with massive smiles on their faces.
“Ya see 'em babe?” Chris asked rolling the trolley of our suitcases behind me.
“hmm I don’t think so- LOLA” (Lola = grandmother)
I screamed once I saw my grandmother standing by my parents and relatives.
Running over I immediately fell into her arms, covid and work had stopped me from visiting them for the past five years, hence why they hadn’t met Chris yet.
“Ang apo ko, ang tankad mo na”
(My grandchild, you’ve grown tall)
“Na miss kita lola”
(I missed you)
“okay na, nandito ka na, mag kasama na tayo”
(It’s okay, you’re here now, we’re together)
Suddenly I remembered Chris and how i’d basically just left him behind, turning around I saw him already hugging and shaking hands with my cousins and uncles. Giant smiles present on all of their faces.
“ito ba ang bagong kong manugang? Ang gwapo nya”
(Is this my new son in law? He’s handsome)
My grandmother said laughing as she walked over to Chris and cupped his face before placing a kiss on his cheek, a sign of acceptance which I saw Chris visibly relax at.
“Boyfriend pa lang lola, 1 year pa lang kami”
(He’s just my boyfriend, we’ve only been together one year)
“Eh alam mo ba na dalawang buwan lang at kinasal na kami ng lolo mo?”
(Eh did you know that two months in, your grandfather and I were already married?)
“What did she say?” Chris asked leaning in to whisper into my ear,
“Nothing! Just something about being hungry babe” I smiled innocently, before being dragged away by my female cousins, leaving Chris to get to know the guys.
(In the Car on the way to the house)
“Welcome to Manila bub” I said holding Chris hand, watching as he stared in awe out of the window, my family members smiling on as they saw how impressed he looked.
“It’s beautiful babe, absolutely beautiful”
“So Chris, do you know tagalog?” My dad asked looking back from the front passenger seat.
“Uh konti lang, pero gusto kong matuto na mag tagalog, para sa inyo po, sa anak nyo at sa mga apo nyo”
(A little bit, but I want to learn to speak Tagalog, for you, for your daughter and for your grandchildren)
Chris spoke confidently, despite his American accent coming through, all my family members specifically my guy cousins started applauding and howling at his skills. A shy smile creeping onto Chris' face as he looked down at me.
(At the house)
“Ipapakita ko muna yung bahay kay Chris tapos kain na tayo”
(I’ll show Chris around the house first, then e can eat)
I said to my family as they started getting busy with their own thing.
“Okay bub welcome to your first official house tour” I said kissing him lightly outside of anyone’s view.
“This is my cat Mingming” I said showing him the cat sitting on the fence of our house, before moving on inside.
“Babe this is our living room, the kitchen is just over there and then we have the bathroom” Dragging him further into the house, the bathroom was a typical filipino bathroom.
There wasn’t really a divider between the shower and toilet, a tabo by the toilet and cold showers are the norm.
(A tabo is like a replacement for a bidet)
“I know this isn’t what you’re used to so I understand if-“
“Babe I love it, I love it here. Sure i’ll have to get used to it, but that’s not a bad thing. I love your family already and I can’t even describe how it makes me feel about you”
“You’re so corny babe, but I love it”
(Corny = Cheesy) I whispered kissing him softly before moving onto the upstairs and showing him where we’d be staying.
Walking back downstairs to eat, I was immediately met with tiny arms jumping up to surround my neck.
“Tita Y/N, NANDITO KA NA!”
(Y/n, you’re here now)
(Tita = Aunt)
“Junior ang laki mo na hah? ilang taon ka na ba?”
(Junior you've grown huh? How old are you now?)
“Seven po, ito po ba si Tito Chris?”
(Seven, is this uncle Chris?)
('Po' is a term used usually at the end of a sentence as a sign of respect. Tito= Uncle)
“Oo, gusto mo ba sya kausapin?”
(Yes, do you want to talk to him?)
“Hi tito Chris, gusto mo ba mag basketball?”
Junior said cheerily, blessing Chris before dragging him outside with me trailing along
(Hi uncle Chris, do you want to play basketball?)
(‘Blessing' someone is when you take the hand of an older person and put it to your forehead)
(Week 2)
“Mama, nasaan si Chris?”
(Mum, where’s Chris?)
I asked sleepily walking down to see my mum making breakfast and laying it out on the table.
“Linabas ng mga pinsan mo, nag motorsiklo sila”
(Your cousins brought him out, they went on their motorbikes)
Not thinking much of it I just sat down and ate the bread pandesal my mum had made, we’d already been here a week and within that time Chris had become besties with my cousins, spending more and more time with them.
“Mama, anong tingin mo kay Chris?”
(Ma what do you think of Chris?) I asked as she sat down opposite me, that same jolly smile on her face.
“Parang anak ko na rin sya, na pagmahal na ako sa kanya. You chose right”
(He’s like my son already, i’ve come to love him)
“I’m glad you see that” I said smiling back at her, but being interrupted by the revving of multiple bike engines congregating outside.
“Oh kain na kayo” (Come in and eat)
My mum said getting up again as all my cousins and Chris waked in, a bright smile on his, adorning a basketball shirt and shorts. The typical Philippine attire if you ask me.
“okay ka lang babe?”
(you doing okay?)
I asked getting up to pat some of his sweat away with the towel over his shoulder, his skin now glowy with a tan .
“I’m doing absolutely perfect baby” Within weeks, Chris was already starting to understand so much more tagalog, something he started to take pride in.
(Week 3)
“Boracay is so beautiful babe, you’re going to love it there” I said to Chris on the plane, all my family members sitting around us.
“I don’t doubt it bub, i’ve already fallen in love with this place” He smiled at me, his thumb rubbing circles over my knuckles.
Once we had landed, Junior my nephew had taken his now usual spot on Chris' back as we all walked towards the beach resort, the white sand beaches under our feet.
“Ang ganda dito”
(It’s beautiful here) I whispered out loud
“Parang ikaw”
(Just like you) Chris said from beside me, Junior giggling on his back which definitely ended up with us tickling him onto the sand.
(A couple of hours later- 10PM)
“Baby you wanna go on a walk?” I said walking into the living room, seeing Chris playing cards with my grandfather, father and cousins, before seeing him nod to them and get up.
“It’s alright if you wanna sit and play with them babe, I don’t mind” I smiled, rubbing his bicep comfortingly.
“Nah I wanna spend some time with my woman, let’s go”
Walking hand in hand down the beach, our shoes in our hands.
“I just wanna say thank you, for opening your heart to me and my country. No man’s ever done that before”
“Oh baby this is just the beginning, i’m already planning on us coming back here next year. Remember when you said that the Philippines to you just feels like home, you get this weird sense of nostalgia around it? I think i’m starting to feel it too, I don’t know how i’m ever gonna leave this place babe.”
Stopping in the sand, I just stared at him, an overwhelming sense of emotions coursing through my body.
“By the way I hope i’m the first and last guy you bring here” He joked jerking me closer to him, his hands going around my waist, his head dipping down to take my lips with his. Pulling away slightly, our lips brushing against each other’s he whispered
“Mahal kita Y/n”
“Mahal kita Chris”
(Mahal Kita = I love you)
(Week 4)
“Baby are you crying” I asked looking at Chris as we entered the airport, sniffles coming from him and his eyes glossing.
“Can ya blame me? We’re leaving what is now our second home” He said laughing, brushing away stray tears.
“Alagaan mo si Y/n, dapat pag uwi nyo ulit dito may apo na ako ha?”
(Take care of Y/n, when you come back here again I expect a grandchild okay?)
My grandmother said smiling with tears in her eyes as she brought Chris' face close to hers, then engulfing him in a tight hug that I could tell made his sense of homesickness even worse.
“Dont worry lola, plano ko na yan”
(That’s my plan)
He smirked at me, earning him a subtle slap to the chest, before he walked over hugging all of my cousins and my parents. Leaving me to then say my goodbyes which also ended up in tears.
“Let’s go home bub, to Boston” I smiled taking Chris' hand as we headed towards security, my family shouting words of support behind us,
“we’ll always have a home here babe” I said looking at him, his tears not letting up, when he finally turned to me and smiled.
“I’m planning on keeping that promise to your lola by the way, so we gotta start soon babe”
“Shut up”

pagpapaliwanag ng mga pangalan (name explanations)
↳ this is inspired by @poisonousboba‘s post where they translated names from the dream smp in spanish! to give further insight on as to how the names (characters and factions) work, we decided to make a list for ourselves.
↳ this is divided into two parts: names translated by mod ame and names translated by mod beatrix.
↳ mod ame
Ginip - Literal translation of the word “dream”. What differs from this and the name of the SMP is that “ginip” refers to the verb, while “panaginip” is the dream itself, the noun.
BathalangGinip - This one isn’t a direct translation to DreamXD. Instead, I opted to use a more mythological standpoint to this. While Filipino myths vary per region, the popular equivalent we had of “god” during the pre-colonial times would be Bathala. “Ginip” is used the same way as the previous example.
JorgengNawala - Because we were colonized by the Spanish, a lot of Filipino variations of English names are also the same as its Spanish variations. In this case, “Jorge” is the Spanish/Filipino version of “George”. The reason there’s an additional -ng at the end of “Jorge” is because when we want to associate one word to another in Tagalog and it ends with a vowel, you have to add “-ng” at the end of it. In this case, we’re associating “Jorge” and “Nawala”, with “Nawala” meaning “it got lost” or quite simply, “not found”.
Katasidlip - “Katas” can be translated as “sap”, and “idlip” would mean “nap”. I honestly don’t know what others would refer to Sapnap in this case - maybe they call him Kat? Either that or they use the Filipino/Spanish version of Nick which is “Nicolas”.
Kalahan - This is “Callahan” but spelled using the Filipino standard. In Filipino, we spell things as they are pronounced. We don’t have the letter “c,” so hard “c”s are replaced with “k”. Double “l” is pronounced differently in Filipino, so we have to make it singular.
Alisa - Same rule as previous. Changed “y” to “i” because that’s how it’d be spelled as - English likes to complicate things, doesn’t it?
AstigNiSam - There’s another post somewhere of me trying to explain this name, but I’ll keep it more brief here. “Astig” is a word we use when we think something is cool or badass. (Beatrix inserts: It’s also one of many slang words in the language created by switching the letters around! “Astig” is derived from “tigas'' which translates to “hard.” Other examples include “lodi” from “idol,” which is exactly the same in English, and “dehins'' from “hindi,” which means “no.”) “Ni” is a word that helps us understand who the adjective is referring to, and in this case, it’s directed towards Sam.
Sam Sulok - “Sam Nook” is a quite difficult phrase to translate, but I thought “sulok” would be the best word for “nook”. “Sulok” means corner, usually referring to a certain area of a place.
PatakNiPongk - “Patak'' is the Tagalog word for “something that drops,” usually used when referring to raindrops. “Ni” identifies ownership. Ponk is spelled as “Pongk'' because that’s how you’d spell it in Filipino.
Tomas’DiBa - Like the Spanish equivalent, the Filipino equivalent of “Thomas” is “Tomas”. “Innit” is basically the British version of “isn’t it?” so in Tagalog, it can be translated as “hindi ba?”. For this case, we shortened “hindi” to “‘di”.
Tabo - Besides being the way “Tubbo'' would be spelled in Filipino, tabo is a common tool used in Filipino bathrooms. In English, it can also be referred to as a dipper. It’s basically a small pail or bucket with a long handle, somewhat resembling a cooking pot. They’re usually used to refill toilets with water, wash someone’s ass after shitting, or take baths.
Pondohan - Literally translates to “funding” or “fundraiser” - a pun using the word “fund” in “Fundy”. Stems from the word “pondo” which means “fund”. Adding “-han” or “-an” at the end of certain verbs could specify a place or an activity where this verb is taking action.
Pans - This is how “Punz” would be spelled in Filipino. Our “u”s are pronounced more like “oo”. Additionally, we don’t have the letter “z” and they are usually replaced with “s”. I tried finding equivalents for the word “puns” but the only one I could find was “bugtong,” Filipino riddles.
Nalila - “Lila” is the Tagalog word for “purple”. “Purpled” adding “-d” at the end implies that Purpled turned “purple” into a past tense verb, so in Tagalog, adding “na-” behind “lila” turns it into a past tense verb as well.
Guillermo Uling - “Guillermo” is the Spanish/Filipino equivalent for the name “William”. “Uling” is Tagalog for soot or charcoal.
Guillermumo - This is a Filipino pun that I’m quite proud of. It mixes two words: “Guillermo,” Filipino for “William”, and “mumo”, a popular term for ghosts or monsters. What’s funny about mumo is that most of the time, it’s not really used in Filipino myth. Rather, parents like to use it to scare their children to do things. For example, “Hey don’t go to the bathroom there’s mumo there!” Cue the children screaming and crying into their parents’ laps.
DyeySlatt - This is simply “jSchlatt” but spelled in Filipino. We don’t really use the letter “j”, so if we wanna say “j” like “jay”, we can spell it as “dyey.” We also don’t have any equivalent for the “schl-” at the beginning of Schlatt’s name, so it was either gonna be “Slatt” or “Tslat” (pronounced chlatt). Picked the former.
Laktawan - This is a pun. To translate “Skeppy” I took “skep”, turned it into “skip”, and boom, Laktawan. Laktawan’s root word is “laktaw”, which means to skip a step. Adding “-an” to the end creating “laktawan” refers to the act of skipping the step.
Eret - It’s literally Eret. Same thing in English, same in Filipino. If I were to add the “the” at the beginning, it would either be “ang” or “si”. “Ang” translates literally to “the”, while “si” is like “the” but would refer to proper nouns and names.
Nihatsu - It’s “Nihachu” but spelled in a Filipino way. In Tagalog, we don’t use “ch”, we use “ts”. Most words that use “ts” are Spanish loan words that use “ch”. For example, “chinelas” (slippers) would be “tsinelas” in Tagalog.
Mehicanong Ginip - Literally translates to “Mexican Dream”. The letter “x” in Spanish is pronounced like English’s “h”, and the same goes for Filipino.
Karlos Jacobo - The Spanish/Filipino equivalent of “Karl Jacobs”. I retained the “k” in “Karlos” because a.) that’s actually the Filipino equivalent since we don’t use hard “c”s, and b.) it matches Karl’s actual name.
HBomba94 - Translated literally. “Bomb” in Tagalog is “bomba”, but bomba, funnily enough, also means naked. The term “bomba” was derived from the word “bombshell” and was first used to describe pornographic or x-rated movies in the late 20th century. Thought this was incredibly appropriate for H’s catmaid persona.
Teknotalim - “Tekno” is the Tagalog equivalent for “Techno”, while “talim” translates to blade or sharpness.
Felipe Lazada - Not a 100% direct translation. While Felipe is the Spanish/Filipino equivalent for “Phil”, I thought the “za” part of Phil’s name sounded like “Lazada”, a popular Filipino online shopping industry.
Biktuin123 - “Vikk” spelled in Filipino would be “Bik”, and the Tagalog of star is “bituin”. Combining those two together we get “Biktuin”. Another idea I had was to name him “Vicks”, a popular vapor rub or cooling agent used in Asia.
SinagNgLasar - ”Lasar” is “Lazar” but spelled in Filipino. “Sinag” means ray or a glowing beam. “Ng” translates to “of”. So, “Sinag ng Lasar” is literally “The ray of Lasar”.
Tumakboo - This is the most perfect pun. “Ran,” the past tense of “run,” in Tagalog is “tumakbo”. We can get that and add another “o” at the end to refer to the “boo” part in “Ranboo”.
Hanaekisrosas - Hannah spelled in Filipino would be “Hana”. While I could’ve just put “xx”, I thought it’d be funny to put “ekis”, the way we’d call the letter “x” (which is also the Spanish way of pronouncing it, just spelled differently!). Rosas is the Tagalog of “Rose”, but it’s also the Tagalog of “pink”.
Sorbetes - This used to be called “Lusakbetes” because the closest thing we got to “slime” in Tagalog was “lusak” or “putik” which is dirt. Then I realized that… sorbetes could literally mean the same thing. Sorbetes is a type of cheap ice cream sold on the streets. Another name we give to sorbetes is “dirty ice cream” which made me realize “oh, oh that’s basically slimecicle, isn’t it?” Don’t worry though! Dirty ice cream is actually made out of coconut milk or carabao milk and usually tastes really good!
Miguel Magpahinga - The Spanish/Filipino equivalent of “Michael” is “Miguel”. “Magpahinga” in English would mean “to rest” - it’s basically the closest thing I could find that would mean something related to “chill out”. Plus, the alliteration fits well.
L’Lakinglupa - This is a play on words! “Man” or “male” in Tagalog is “lalaki”, but “laki” or “lalaking” could also mean “big”. Hence, you would see later that Beatrix’s translation of Manberg is “Malakinglupa”. “Lupa” is a common word we’ll use for some of these factions meaning “land”.
Pogtopya - “Pogtopia” but if it were spelled in a Filipino way.
Ang Rapido - Easy translation of “El Rapids”, literally means “The Rapids.”
Hukbong Lechon - “Hukbo” is the Tagalog of “army” while lechon does not actually mean “butcher”. Lechon is a roasted pig - a delicacy in the Philippines and Hispanic cultures usually eaten on Christmas and in other huge events like parties. Yes, we roast the entire pig head to toe and present the entire thing on dinner tables like it’s nothing.
Ang Emperyong Itlog - While we can’t play with words like what they did with “Eggpire”, “Ang Emperyong Itlog” translates to “The Empire of Eggs”. “Ang” is “the”, “emperyo(-ng)” is “empire”, and “itlog” is “egg”.
Ang Sindikato - Literal Tagalog translation of “The Syndicate”.
Kabangniyebe - “Kaban” is Tagalog for a wooden chest or trunk, while “niyebe” is the Tagalog for snow. Hence, “Kabangniyebe.”
Kahadeyero ni Pandora - “Kahadeyero” is a safe or a vault and can also be spelled as “kaha de yero” or “kaha-de-yero”. “Ni” signifies that the name following the noun is the owner of the noun. “Pandora” is kept as is.
Kahariang Kinoko - “Kaharian” is the Tagalog for “kingdom”, and like its English variation, the root word of “Kaharian” is the Tagalog of “king”, “hari”. “Kinoko” is kept as is.
Las Nebadas - This is “Las Nevadas” but spelled in a Tagalog way, so we replace the “v” with a “b”. I was also debating calling it “Resorts World Nevadas” after a popular tourist attraction and casino in Manila with an infamous commercial tagline - though I didn’t retain it because it’s too far off from the name’s original intent.
Lupaing Buhangin - This is L’Sandburg! “Lupa” or “lupain” means “land” while “buhangin” means “sand”.
↳ mod beatrix
SamangSanto - “Bad” in Tagalog is equivalent to the root word “samâ.” We couldn’t completely translate Bad’s username but had to work with what could be derived off of it. I thought “santo” or “saint” in English would fit better as it also served as a reference to Bad’s other username SaintsofGames. Saints can be boys with halos, right? This also rolled off the tongue better.
Juan Mararami - Jack is rooted to John which translates to Juan. “Manifold” is an existing word in English that means “very many” and that translates to “Mararami.” (“Hey, isn’t that supposed to be ‘marami?’” Bro, I said “very many.”) Some Filipino surnames are sometimes descriptive words, so it sounded fitting and matching to the canon “Jack Manifold.” Ame had a more silly last name in mind but I insisted on this one to maintain the character’s dignity.
Kwek-Kwek - Ame originally had this name as “Kwekiti” because we sometimes just spell by sound. I initially proposed this as an equivalent to the nickname “Big Q”, as it sounded cutesy and endearing. Yes, this is also a reference to the particular street food. It’s silly and it translates well into the “quack” of “Quackity.” (Yes I know these refer to quail eggs and that there’s a duck egg equivalent term but this just sounds better)
GuyamGinaw - “Guyam” is a regional Tagalog term that means “Ant.” (The more known term is “langgam,” but to my knowledge that means something else entirely in other parts of the country.) “Ginaw” means “cold” or “chilly.” I found the name Ame had prior to this one a bit awkward sounding and ended up with this.
Kapitan Tupa - We struggled looking for an equivalent for “Puffy”. I settled on “Tupa” because of the way the word sounded. “Tupa” means “sheep”, which in my opinion was close enough. Kapitan obviously translates to “Captain.”
KonorLumalamonNgPantalon - Technically a near-direct translation to “ConnorEatsPants,” Ame had a much more literal take as a placeholder. I pushed this suggestion because this one rhymes somewhat and actually sticks in the brain a little. “Connor” is “Konor,” spelled by sound. “Lumalamon” means “swallowing” or like, “feasting.” Basically eating a lot and aggressively. “Ng” is a word that addresses objects of a sentence, which in this one is “Pantalon” or “Pants.”
Malakinglupa - I proposed this to Ame so that the “No Ls” thing Manburg apparently had would still apply. This means “big land,” with “malaki” meaning “big.” Everyone knows “Big Guy” Schlatt ran “Big Land,” after all.
Bulokbayan - This is the Badlands! “Bulok'' translates to “rotten” or ''bad,” and it's understood in both contexts, in reference to spoiled food and degraded moral character. “Bayan” is one of many terms that refer to “a land, town, or country.”
Madaminglupa - Derived from Juan Mararami, like how the canon Manifoldland is derived from Jack Manifold. Means “many lands." Same rules apply for Bagong Madaminglupa (and Bagong L’Lakinglupa), wherein "Bago'' means "new."
Lupa ng Titi - Literally translates to “Land of Penis.” Little Penis Land was used enough as a location so we might as well have it here. “Titi” is one of many terms that refer to “penis.”

"Mahal kita"
· · ─────── ·✩· ─────── · ·
Summary: The words Michael has been telling him all seemed to be a blur in Jeremy's mind, until now.
Warnings: None
Pairings: Boyf riends, Jeremy x Michael
· · ─────── ·✩· ─────── · ·
Michael would always say whatever he had in mind when around Jeremy, no matter the language. It started small, usually a quick one liner in tagalog that Jeremy doesn't even notice most of the time.
But recently, Michael's been saying much more things. Jeremy would've brushed it off if they weren't directed at him, but they were. And it didn't help that his friend refuses to tell him the translation.
"Come on man, seriously! You've told me stuff that I couldn't understand for months now! Just say what it means would you?" But as usual, Michael would just chuckle and brush him off with an "It doesn't matter, so don't worry about it too much."
It frustrated Jeremy to wits end. So, to ease his anxiety, he decides to take matters into his own hands.
"Jeez, why didn't I just do this in the first place," he mutters while typing away at the computer. With the google translate page up, he does his best to spell out the words he only heard verbally.
It didn't really go well. 'Is my spelling really that bad?' Jeremy thought, sighing. Though not giving up, he racked his brain for the much shorter words Michael would say to him.
After a few minutes, he finally typed something out. 'Mahar keeta' is displayed on the searchbar as he waits for it to load up the meaning.
"He tells me that a lot. I just hope I didn't butcher it that much..."
And again, It didn't show anything. Well, translation wise that is. All it said was "Did you mean Mahal kita?"
Jeremy, not wanting to miss any chances, clicked on it. He was getting more and more impatient by the minute but his desperation and curiosity didn't let him leave without learning at least one phrase.
Though, he wasn't exactly ready for the results that pulled up.
It gave a few definitions, all meaning something different. Although, only one caught his eye.
It was the at the very top of the list. Jeremy, however, didn't want to assume anything. So he took the time to look at ever other possible meaning, but none of the other ones would make sense for Michael to say to him.
"I love you?" He said aloud, face reddening at the thought. His mind raced for any other explanation, but he was still left with the one in front of him. He sighed, lying on his bed. So for him to fully ease his mind, he decided to try something.
The next day, he waited for him to say it again. It took at least most of the afternoon until finally, while in the middle of a game Michael said "Mahal kita, pero alam mo minsan talaga ansakit mo sa ulo." Jeremy faced him, replying with a broken accent.
"Mahal din kita, Michael."
Said boy almost spat out the slushie he'd been drinking, face flushed red. His reaction was all the explanation Jeremy needed.
"Teka lang puta naiintindihan mo pala 'yon?" Michael asked, the initial surprise not yet leaving him.
"Micah, I still can't understand you, " Jeremy laughed. "I just used google translate yesterday."
He shook his head at the mention of the site before looking back at the brunet "Wait, you said... Mahal mo ako?"
Jeremy smiled. "Yeah."
"Holy shit, nananaginip ba ako? Jere, pinch me para malaman kong totoo lahat 'to"
The boy laughed, "You do know I only understood like half of what you said, right?"
"I said kiss me so I can make sure I'm not dreaming." He teased.
"Shut up! That's definitely not what you said."
"Oh yeah? You can't prove that, Jeremiah."
"True, but the thing I can prove is that you love me" Jeremy grins at him, a soft blush forming.
".... yeah, " Michael said, finally admitting it "Yeah I do."
· · ─────── ·✩· ─────── · ·
Translations:
"Mahal kita, pero alam mo minsan talaga ansakit mo sa ulo." = I love you but sometimes you're really a pain in the head
"Mahal din kita, Michael." = I love you too, Michael
"Teka lang puta naiintindihan mo pala 'yon?" = Wait what the fuck you understood it all this time?
"Holy shit, nananaginip ba ako? Jere, pinch me para malaman kong totoo lahat 'to" = Holy shit, am I dreaming? Jere, pinch me so I know all of this is true

ii. yakap || marahuyo
ii. yakap → series masterlist
Yakap (v.) Filipino: to embrace, to hug.
Pairing: Peter Parker x Filipino!Reader
Warnings: there are a few words and phrases in Filipino, but I have provided a glossary at the bottom with the translations! (Also, absolutely no plot, just fluff and vibes.)
Word Count: 1.2k
Summary: Sometimes love is slow-dancing in the kitchen. Sometimes love is slow kisses before bed. Sometimes love is just being in his arms.
A/N: I'm so sorry I let you all think this series was dead. TBH I have had a hard time trying to write this series, and have made many attempts in the last two years, but this is the first time I've actually felt proud of what I wrote.
I even made a playlist to go along with this chapter! It's a playlist of new and older Filipino love songs that helped me to write this chapter. (Also follow me on spotify while ur here)
“Bago tayo magkayakap sa dilim…”
“So wait, what’s this song about again?”
“Well they’re talking about holding each other in the dark,” you chuckled as you handed the washed plate over to Peter. “But like… suggestively.” His eyebrow shot up as he finished wiping the plate before putting it away and you playfully poked his side.
“I’ll be sure to remember that one,” he smirked at you. “Yakap sa dilim,” he repeated with his best effort at a Filipino accent. You couldn’t help but smile up at him as he spoke, admiring his efforts at getting to know your culture. Every day felt like you were giving him more of you to love and he was embracing every bit of it.
Looking back, you’re not sure why you were ever nervous to share these things with Peter, or anyone for that matter. You had come a long way from the person who was afraid to eat their lunch with a spoon and fork at school, who was anxious of the weird stares when you spoke to your mom in Tagalog over the phone, who hid their heritage in an effort to fit in. You only ever wished that it hadn’t taken you so long to be proud of your culture.
Now, you enjoyed any opportunity you could to teach him more about the Philippines, about your language, your food, but especially your music. There was something about Filipino love songs that just made you feel both nostalgic and just kilig. It was an easy way to sum up how you felt about the brown haired boy standing next to you.
He returned your smile before planting a kiss on your forehead. The next few moments passed in silence with nothing but soft music playing through the speakers on your phone as you finished washing up the dishes. It had been a quiet night. Dinner and domesticity. And with Peter, it was all you needed for a good time. Once the last of the dishes had been put away, you suddenly felt his arms wrap around your waist as he spun you around to face him.
“Dance with me,” he smiled softly, his hand cupping your cheek. “It’s your favorite song.” You felt the calloused pad of his thumb, barely there, ghosting over your cheek. He pulled you in close, so that your head was resting on his chest and your arms draped around his neck. You felt the warmth of his breath as he rested his cheek on the top of your hair. The familiar scent of his Midtown sweater filled your nose and you let yourself relax as the two of you swayed side to side with the music.
“At ngayon, nandiyan ka,” you began to sing softly along with the music. “‘Di mapaliwanag ang nadarama.” You felt Peter smile against you and you wrapped your arms tighter around him, pulling him closer. The song was one of your favorites because of the way it captured how you felt about the boy dancing around the kitchen with you. The way you felt about him was something you couldn’t put into words. Two languages and you still would never have the right words to tell him how you cherished him, but nothing could keep you from trying.
Now, you’re here, and I can’t explain what I feel.
Peter hummed along quietly. He was more than familiar with the song, hearing you play it in your car, on the piano, or just absentmindedly singing to yourself. Although he couldn’t make out many words in the song, he had picked up enough to know that the title, Ikaw at Ako, meant You and I. It was enough for him to understand you were thinking of him every time you played it, including right now.
The excitement from knowing that, in this quiet and small moment, all you were thinking about was him was enough to send his heart into overdrive. He didn’t need to understand every word to know that the feeling of you in his arms, of having these intimate moments, was something he wanted every day for forever.
As the song came to a close Peter pulled away, lifting both hands to rest on your cheeks. His thumbs traced across your cheekbone gently, but with a subtle desperation, like you were a dream he was afraid to wake up from. His smile was soft, but his eyes wandered around your face, trying to remember every detail and you wondered what was going on in his head. Afraid to break the silence, you brought one of your hands to cover his.
“Mula ngayon, hanggang dulo, ikaw at ako.” The last line of the song floated over the silence that had come to rest between the two of you, dissolving it like a cloud. You smiled into Peter’s hands. “From now until the end.”
Your eyes fluttered closed as Peter’s lips descended on yours, landing in a slow kiss. Even now, you could feel him smiling against your lips. As the next song began to play over the speakers, Peter pulled away and rested his forehead against yours. “I love you,” he breathed out so quietly you would have mistaken it for a sigh until he added “mahal kita.”
It wasn’t the first time you heard him say the words out loud, but they sounded more familiar than anything. It was like hearing a song from your childhood 15 years later and still knowing every word. It was like coming home after a long day.
The words escaped your lips before you could even think. “I love you too, Peter.” The grin on his face spread to the corners of his eyes before he kissed you again, and again, and again. He continued to pepper you with light kisses until you laughed and tried to pull away. He let you go before grasping your hand, lifting it up above your head, inviting you to twirl into him once more.
“One last twirl,” he promised. “Then it’s off to bed for us.” You landed with your back against his chest as Peter began to leave kisses on your neck, knowing exactly how ticklish you were, just to hear you laugh again. “I love you,” he whispered between each one, repeating it like he couldn’t believe you were real.
Somehow, one last twirl turned into six more songs and two pudding cups. It wasn’t until you let out a yawn that the two of you realized how late it had gotten. The pudding cups were thrown away, the speaker turned off, and pajamas were slipped on. You raced Peter to bed, sliding into the covers. He let you beat him, happy to tuck you in before sliding in next to you.
As Peter reached to turn off the lamp, you took the opportunity to snuggle closer to him, resting your head on his chest and draping your arm around his waist. He pressed a kiss to your forehead, whispering goodnight against your skin. His fingers trailed against your arm and you let out a small chuckle.
“What’s so funny, love?” He asked, sleep laced his voice with a light rasp.
“I was just thinking of that song,” you answered.
“Which song?”
“Yakap sa dilim.”

Fairytale: Fairytale (Newt Scamander x Reader)
━━━━━━•✦.✧.☾.✧.✦•━━━━━
It took only a couple years after what happened in Paris to fully take down Grindelwald. Leta was killed in the final battle and that left Theseus in shambles. When he returned to London, he apparated to a lonely flat. The place where the only person who would understand his pain lived- Victoria.
From there, the rest was history.
•✦.✧.☾.✧.✦•
“Thanks for watching the kids, Newt. Theseus and I needed a day off.” Victoria said as her kids ran in the living room of Newt’s flat.
Theseus sighed. “Mei Anne Mendoza Scamander. Thaddeus Alden Mendoza Scamander, please stop running around. You’re sure to break something.”
Newt glanced at Theseus, his niece and nephew before looking back at Victoria. “It’s no problem. You know I love watching them…” He thought for a moment, “Merlin, those are long names…”
Victoria gave Newt a look, crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re one to talk, Newton Artemis Fido Scama-”
He chuckled, “Okay, okay. Point taken. Now off you go before you end up missing your reservation.”
Theseus walked over to Victoria, wrapping his arms around her waist. “Vi… Do something.”
Victoria smiled. “Watch and learn.” She slowly got out of Theseus’ embrace and walked to where the kitchen met the living room. Her children were still running around, laughing at their game of tag. Victoria giggled softly before clicking her tongue.
In a blink of an eye, Mei Anne and Thaddeus stopped and looked at their mother.
“Halika dito,” ‘Come here’ She said calmly. Mei Anne and Thaddeus slowly made their way to their mother.
“See what you did?” Thaddeus whispered to his sister.
“Me? You started running!” Mei Anne replied.
When the pair stood in front of their mother, they could feel her staring down at them. Victoria squatted, making sure she was at their level.
“Maging mabuti, okay?” ‘Be good?’ Victoria asked.
“Yes, nanay.” ‘Yes, mom.’ They answered.
“Promise?”
“Yes.” They nodded.
Victoria smiled and kissed their foreheads. “Okay, your father and I will see you later then. Don’t give Tito Newt a hard time. You can go back to playing, just stay where he can see you.”
Mei Anne and Thaddeus smiled before going back into the living room and looked at Newt’s bookshelf.
Victoria stood and walked over to the brothers who were staring at her in awe. “Close your mouth boys, you’ll catch flies.”
Newt and Theseus shook out of their amazement. “That’s amazing!” Newt said excitedly.
“I know. I find it fascinating whenever she speaks Tagalog. It seems the children like it when she speaks to them in another language.” Theseus praised.
Victoria rolled her eyes playfully. “Just wait until I teach them Japanese.”
“I thought you were Chinese?” Newt asked.
She hummed. “I am, but my mom and I were never exposed to our Chinese culture whilst we were growing up. She learned Japanese from her caretakers, and I learned it from my mom.”
“You can tell me more about it at dinner,” Theseus suggested.
“Right! Dinner!” Victoria exclaimed. “See you around ten?”
Newt nodded, “See you at ten.”
~*~*~
After showing Mei Anne and Thaddeus all his creatures, and feeding them dinner (Yes, because children need to eat real food Newton), it was time for them to get some sleep.
“But Uncle Newt… We’re not tired…” Thaddeus whined.
“Yeah, I wanna play with the Nifflers again…” Mei Anne added.
With both kids in his arms, he carried them over to the living room and set them down on the couch. “If I don’t get you to bed your mum would lecture me.”
Thaddeus shivered, quickly holding a couch pillow to his chest. “I don’t like mummy’s lecture voice. It’s calm, but something about it is scary.”
Newt chuckled, sitting on the floor in front of them. “How about I tell you a bedtime story.”
Mei Anne nodded. “Will you? We love bedtime stories!”
He nodded, “Alright then… Where do I start…”
Thaddeus cuddled close to his sister for warmth. Mei Anne took the couch blanket and set it over their laps. They both were quiet and attentive.
“It all started a long time ago. When a stable boy fell in love with the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. Day after day, he’d go out and pick the best-looking sunflower from the community gardens and gift it to her.”
“These are for you, (Y/N). I hope you like them…” Newt mumbled, holding out a sunflower bouquet.
(Y/N) smiled, playing with the ends of her sleeve. “Newt! How did you know these were my favorite?”
“I remember you saying they were your favorite in Herbology once…”
“But Newt, that was in first year!”
Mei Anne smiled. “I want someone to give me sunflowers!”
Newt chuckled. “Soon they became friends. And even though they couldn’t see it, everyone around them was aware that they were in love.”
Newt turned the corner, looking for the Herbology book he needed for his essay. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but he couldn’t help it. “Last time I checked, you were a Ravenclaw this morning,” Victoria asked.
“What are you talking about?”
A pause before he heard (Y/N) speak again. “O-Oh! I was just cold… That’s all…”
Newt put the pieces together- they were talking about how he gave her his robes.
“I was just cold! That’s all..” Victoria mimicked teasingly. “But seriously… Are you ever going to tell him?”
“No, I don’t think I will…”
And that’s when Newt left to find the book he needed. Of course, they quickly changed the subject. Sure, he was the topic of interest for a second, but he knew how Victoria could easily change the subject without the person knowing.
‘She would never like me in that way anyway.’ He thought.
“Although, things started to get in the way of their friendship. In their younger years, the stable boy started being around another girl. He thought he could manage his time between his first love and the new girl, but in the end, he chose to be around the new girl.” Newt sighed as he reminisced on all the missed moments he had with (Y/N).
Mei Anne grumbled. “Ugh. Boys are stupid. Why couldn’t he just tell her!”
Thaddeus looked up to his sister. “I’m not stupid!”
Mei Anne sighed and ruffled his hair. “Okay… Boys are stupid… Except you, Uncle Newt, dad, and Uncle Jacob.”
“Oh, don’t say that. I was… pretty dumb when it came to certain things.” Newt admitted.
“What happened when they got older?” Thaddeus asked, looking back to Newt.
Newt swallowed. He tried to think of a way to explain the past ten years without going into too much detail. “Well… The stable boy got into some trouble and ran away. He kept in touch with his first love through letters, but he was always on the run- looking for new creatures to study. When he finally returned to the village, he found out that his first love had fallen in love with someone else-”
“WHAT? But… But they were in love! How could she just… love someone else…?” Thaddeus interrupted.
“Because she didn’t know! As mum always said, you miss all the shots you don’t take.” Mei Anne added.
“Can I continue the story?” Newt asked, causing the children to stop rambling.
“Thing is… There was a war going on. So the stable boy’s first love had parted with her lover. Within that time, the stable boy and his first love started getting closer. He was so close to confessing his feelings. Until a monster took her away.
“Oooh, I bet it was a scary dragon!!” Thaddeus exclaimed.
“T, it wasn’t a dragon. It was probably some kidnapper!” Mei Anne
Newt sighed. “Hmm… I guess you could say he was a kidnapper. He used his words to trick people into following him. The stable boy spent day after day trying to find his lost love. He vowed that the moment he found her again… They’d have a brand new start.”
“And did he find her?” Mei Anne asked.
“Legend says that he’s still looking for her,” Newt said, ending his story.
KNOCK KNOCK
“And that’s your mum and dad!”
“But!! The story!!!” Thaddeus whined.
Newt stood to open the door, letting Victoria and Theseus inside. “I hope they weren’t too much trouble,” said Theseus.
“Uncle Newt was telling us a story about a stable boy and his first love!” Mei Anne cheered, the feeling of sleep disappearing.
Victoria looked at Newt, “Oh really?”
“Uh-huh! And the stable boy went through so much heartbreak and… His love was kidnapped and the stable boy is still trying to find her.” Thaddeus said, waddling over to his mom.
Theseus walked over to the couch to pick Mei Anne and carry her. “Oh… Such a sad tale. Did the stable boy ever find her?”
Mei Anne shook her head. “No… Uncle Newt said that he’s still trying to find her…”
Victoria sighed and picked up Thaddeus, who was tugging at her skirt and making grabby hands at her. “Yeah… Me too…” She muttered.
~*~*~
Another date night and Newt was on babysitting duty. Not like he minded. A popping sound echoed through the basement.
“I’ll see who it is, Uncle Newt!” Mei Anne yelled as she turned the corner. She saw a woman standing at the bottom of the basement stairs.
The woman looked down at Mei Anne in confusion. “W-Who are you? Where are your parents?”
Mei Anne walked closer to the woman, her eyes ever so observant. She tilted her head to the side when she realized who it was. “Aunty (Y/N)?”
“H-How do you know my name? Who are you?” (Y/N) asked, meeting Mei Anne halfway.
Mei Anne held her ground. “I’ve heard mum talk about you a lot.”
She squatted down to Mei Anne’s height. “So he married Tina, hm?”
“What? Are you talking about Aunty Tina? No… She’s mum’s friend.”
(Y/N) looked closer at the girl in front of her. Long black hair, soft blue-green eyes, slightly tan skin, and the cutest freckles on her face. Half of these were definitely Scamander qualities… but who was the other half? “It seems that you know my name, but I don’t know yours.”
“My name is Mei Anne Mendoza Scamander. I’m five years old and I have a little brother named Thaddeus Alden Mendoza Scamander!” She said proudly.
“Mei Mei, what’s taking you so long? Uncle Newt’s gonna show us Kelpie!!” Thaddeus exclaimed, turning the same corner. “Who’s this, Mei Mei?”
(Y/N) looked past Mei Anne to see her brother.
Thaddeus had nicely styled brown hair, dark brown eyes, and slightly tanned skin but a skin tone lighter than his sister’s. She swore that if he came closer, he’d have those Scamander freckles on his cheeks too.
She gasped, her hands covering her mouth. “Oh… How did I not see that? You two are almost sheer copies of your parents…”
Just then the door to the basement opened, “Mei Mei, Thaddeus, Newt! We’re here!” Victoria called out as they descended the stairs.
With every click of Victoria’s heels, (Y/N) had the urge to Disapparate out of there. That was until Mei Anne called out, “Nanay! Look who came to visit?”
Victoria quickly walked down the remaining steps, Theseus following close behind. “Who is it? Aunty Tina? Aunty Queenie and Uncle Jacob? Who could it be-” She stopped at the bottom of the steps and (Y/N) stood from her squatting position. They felt it.
The small bit of warmth from the charm bracelets they got all those years ago… “(Y/N)..?”
(Y/N) turned around slowly. “Hey, Vi… It’s me…”
Theseus smiled and softly pushed Victoria forward. “Don’t just stand here, hug her!”
“I missed you so much…” (Y/N) whispered as they shared a long hug. Soon, Theseus and the kids joined in on the hug.
When they all pulled away, Newt finally joined the rest. “Mei Mei, Thaddeus! Where have you two been? Have you found out who Apparated here? Victoria! Theseus! You weren’t supposed to be here until later- (Y/N)?” Newt rambled.
“Thanks again for watching the kids, Newton!” Victoria smiled. She then whispered something in (Y/N)’s ear before leaving with Theseus and the kids.
“(Y/N)...” Newt trailed off, shoving his hands into his pockets.
She smiled. “Hello, Newt.”
And all was well. It may have taken a while to adjust, but Newt and (Y/N) managed it. After all… it was their fairytale.

Tips I’ve Learned from Relearning my Second First Language
This is really important, to me, and maybe to you, too.
But first, here’s some background info on me and bilingualism in general:
I grew up speaking Japanese and English and started speaking them as a baby at the same time (simultaneous bilingual). Some of you may have learned one after the other (sequential bilingual).
I grew up speaking Japanese because my grandma mostly raised me, and she’s Japanese. So through her, I learned Japanese. This is my heritage language. Another example, a common heritage language in California (USA) is Spanish, and I have friends who grew up speaking Vietnamese and Tagalog.
By definition (for ease, through Wikipedia), a heritage language is is a minority language (either immigrant or indigenous) learnt by its speakers at home as children, but never fully developed because of insufficient input from the social environment.
People who speak a heritage language range in their skillset: some speakers are more fluent than others, and some can only understand. Some may know how to read and write, but many don’t. Everyone is different.
The past couple months, at 25 years old, I decided I wanted to start trying to learn Japanese again. Before starting to study it more actively, I could understand Japanese pretty easily, minimal ability to speak, read, and write (hiragana was the easiest, followed by katakana and some kanji). When I was younger, I attended Japanese school on Saturdays, which is where I learned to read and write.
I had tried many many many times before to learn Japanese again, but I failed every time.
Here are some things I wish I would have realized earlier:
1. You can’t rely on passive skills to study if you want to improve your active skills
Passive skills: Listening comprehension, reading Active skills: Speaking, writing
Active skills focus on the production of language. For the longest time I wasn’t improving these skills because I thought that I could improve them by listening to more things in Japanese: TV shows, songs, YouTube videos, listening to my family speak.
But why would that work if I’ve been listening to my grandma speak to me in Japanese for 25 years of my life and I didn’t gain any active skills from that?
In order to gain improve your active skills, you have to practice by using your active skills.
I know, if you don’t speak a heritage language and are reading this, you might think DUH! I learned Portuguese and the only way to get good at speaking it is to speak it. I don’t think I realized this was the case with my Japanese because I already had an “in.” But this still applies. I had to speak and write more in order to be able to, well, speak and write more.
2. You have to try
You grew up speaking another language. It’s a special gift. But if you’re lacking in certain skills, you still have to work to try and strengthen those skills.
A couple years ago, I went back to study at my Japanese school as an adult because I thought it would help. It kind of did, but not really...
I TRICKED MYSELF into thinking I understood all the material because I could understand everything the teacher was saying, when in reality I wasn’t able to retain the kanji or the syntactic structures I was learning.
By tricking myself into THINKING I knew things, I sabotaged my own learning experience.
You have to try, and you have to really want to learn it because already knowing parts of the language have the potential to hold you back.
3. Use what gave you the language to your advantage
Don’t “use” them, but you know what I mean.
For the longest time (childhood into recent adulthood), I was too embarrassed to use Japanese with my mom and grandma. I would only routinely use a select amount of phrases that I felt comfortable using, even if my grandma was speaking to me in Japanese.
My mom would always say “You have the best resources around you, practice your Japanese while you can.”
And while sometimes what parents say can be annoying, my mom was right.
But it took a HUGE change in my life to realize this and take action.
When I was 23, my grandma went back to live in Japan. It was an emotional and difficult time for me because I was so used to having her around. While she was living with my family, we learned to communicate in a mix of Japanese-English, and I expressed my gratitude for her by doing housework for her, or buying her things at the grocery store or brought her desserts after going out to eat with friends.
But her moving across the world meant that I couldn’t do these things anymore. A couple days before her departure, I decided that I would try and write her a letter in Japanese and slip it in her backpack for when she arrived in Japan.
Let me tell you, I had THE MOST difficult time writing that letter. I couldn’t express how much appreciated her because my Japanese sucked. And I hated that I couldn’t tell her that in her own language.
So after she moved to Japan, I started to write her letters--*practicing those active skills though!!!
By being able to write letters with my grandma, not only was I practicing my Japanese, but I was creating a relationship with my grandma that I had never had before. I knew that I would regret it if I didn’t talk to her more before she’s gone. Which is sad, but it’s reality.
And let me tell you. I’ve improved a lot.
I can think in Japanese now. It may not be perfect, but I know how to structure my sentences. Words are coming more easily to my brain now. I can communicate with my grandma.
4. It’s never too late
I considered late high school/early college the prime of my language learning career. I got myself to a decent level of Spanish, I learned Portuguese, I took classes in Mandarin and French.
But for some reason, I thought my Japanese was always DOOMED because it was just way. too. hard. for. me. to. learn.
Japanese is hard. But it’s not impossible.
I realized that at 25. It’s never too late to learn a language, but it’s also never too late to try and relearn a language you were familiar with before.
Just take it one step at a time.
I always thought Japanese was overwhelming because I KNEW how difficult it was. I thought about everything--kanji, onyomi and kunyomi, all the sentence structures and everything all at once. This freaked me out and made me think I could never learn it.
But if you learn it little by little, it’s not as overwhelming.
#
That’s pretty much all the major points of things I wish I realized earlier when it came to studying Japanese.
Language is something I’ve been interested in for a long time in terms of academics, so Japanese is naturally, important to me as a language. For other heritage language speakers, it might be more of the food that’s important, or cultural aspects, or other parts of their heritage that is important.
Everyone is different.
But this was for you, heritage language speaker, if you needed a little push.
