Kai except he adores annoying everyone.

He might not be the oldest, but he is the only one who is an older brother (Zane’s possible family not included)

He adores walking into Nya’s room and not leaving even when she starts getting angry. He’ll be standing there, poking her, laying across her knowing damn well he’s heavy, snatching stuff out of her hands, using that voice people use when talking to babies, all because he got bored and loves seeing her get annoyed.

He play fights with Lloyd all the time and always is the one who initiates it. Suddenly Lloyd is in a headlock, is getting thrown onto the ground and now he has Kai sitting on his back pretending he’s sitting on a sofa. “Man, why is the sofa talking??”

He loves to go into Zane’s room and act like it’s his own when Zane isn’t there. Full on laying across the previously pristinely made bed with his stinky socks on the bed and Zane walks in and promptly has a heart attack. He then grabs Kai’s ankles and does his absolute best to drag him out. Then because Dr Julien thought it would be funny and because Kai loves using it to his advantage, he starts poking in specific areas he knows will send what Zane says is small electrical pulses to random areas that makes Zane start giggling on the ground. So, tickle wars. Zane never wins.

Kai loves to take horrible photos of Cole and then show them to the other years later. In a meet up with Vania he shows her a photo of Cole standing waist deep in a puddle of mud, his face covered in mud, staring at a now ruined cake staring up at the camera with the most heartbroken expression ever. Cole promptly began chasing Kai around the room demanding he deletes it. Kai retaliates by playing a video with Cole sobbing over a romance movie about horses.

Jay has gotten sick of telling Kai no, you can’t touch it. Kai adores annoying Jay by asking if he can have something of Jay’s, taking it even when he says no, changing things when Jay didn’t want him too, etcetera. Now Jay sees his calendar say August 5th when it’s December 26th, wondering where half his hoodies went, questioning why his pants are where is socks are supposed to be and why his socks are now covered in motor oil. Kai also enjoys asking the well known and very annoying “why?” Question continuously when Jay is working.

(thoughts on his time at his old house, and how it might've affected him)

as per usual, i've been thinking a lot about luis' background and all the nuances of how his upbringing seeps into his day-to-day life, and there's one main thing i keep going back to: when he came back to valdelobos, he went to his childhood home.

he returned to the bedroom he used to have, and it was all the same as the day he left. under the rubble and the burnt remnants of furniture and decoration, it's all the same. it's like he never left.

i wonder what kind of a toll it took on him to go back there every night, or however often he returned. what it felt like to crawl into bed like a little kid, to look across the room for his grandfather and be greeted by nothing but the charred walls.

there was no kind voice to read him don quixote til he drifted off, and no amount of sleep-wake cycle would have him opening his eyes the next morning at the smell of fresh coffee.

i wonder if he ever prayed about it, prayed over the house, or at least over the memory.

he was raised religious, his grandfather was a god-fearing man.

he says a prayer before he has to fight, he says one during fights, and i have to wonder what he says. does he do it out of habit, out of guilt? does he do it earnestly? or is it second nature, as much of a reflex as breathing and blinking?

do you think he has a rosary, maybe from his grandfather, maybe tucked under his pillow? does he pull it out when he's up late at night and into the morning, sitting at the table set for two? when he thinks of the lab and the tests, all the things he helped create, i wonder if he wraps the beads between his fingers and starts to pray.

do you think he prays to a creator to show him mercy, the same mercy he couldn't show to the people who died at the hands of his creations? maker to maker, do you think he asks for forgiveness?

did he wish he could cross himself one last time as he sat with leon, knowing he was going to die? when he couldn't even work his lighter, did he wish he had the strength to clasp his hands and say one last hail mary? or was leon's hand against his enough? close enough to prayer, close enough to peace.

so theres this one TFF interview i remember watching a while back and i cannot for the life of me find it now

but its a couch interview- roland and curt are sitting on a couch- and roland is wearing his blue jacket and curt is wearing his brown one and at one point roland leans over to curt to like, not correct him on something but just ask if he remembers like this one portion of a story or smth i honestly dont remember but it was really cute and yeah. if you know which one im talking about please help

Since it's not going in my article due to space constraints, i'll share a bit about Jane Manning James here. It won't be superfleshed out atm bc it got cut. I plan to do more later. As I am *Reorganized*, writing this for a Community of Christ publication, i researched Ld-S shared history to the point of Nauvoo. my article doesn't follow west (technically). the main resource was an LDS one (thank you v much for your freely available archive) asking about her time with the prophet of the Restoration.

Jane Manning James

A significant Black Latter Day Saint from the early church was Jane Manning James. A woman from Connecticut notably made the walk from Buffalo, New York to Nauvoo, Illinois on foot, with most of her family. This was only after being separated from the group of recently converted latter day saints in Buffalo, possibly due to their race. Jane was baptized in 1842 by missionaries in her home state of Connecticut. She recorded these things about her journey and arrival to Nauvoo and her faith when asked to recall her life living with Joseph Smith in 1905.

“When I went there [Nauvoo] I only had two things on me, no shoes nor stockings, wore them all out on the road… They [Joseph and Emma] was looking for us because I wrote them a letter. There was eight of us, my mother and two sisters and a brother and sister-in-law, and we had two children, one they had to carry all the way there, and we traveled a thousand miles.”

She was sure in her belief of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and Modern Prophecy. She says in her recollection, after seeing that Joseph Smith Jr was indeed the man in her vision in Connecticut, that “This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and there will never be any other on earth. It has come to stay.” Sister James would later go west with the saints under the leadership of then Apostle Brigham Young.

thank you for the example set Sister James on faith, dedication, and perseverance. She also had spiritual gifts, such as speaking in tongue and faith healing. She believed following the gospel, knowing it was a key to a better way of living life (for her.) it wasn't easy for her, and yet, i think the faith community i observe today (and mormonism in general) is better, just for her having lived it.

may she be at peace, and in a manner God, Sister Jane herself, and her family she led that meant so very much to her, see fit.
