20 for the NSFW prompts for Harper please 👀👀👀
Your wish is my command.
20. for angry sex
The Wayhaven Chronicles, Mason x f!OC (Harper Grey). 3,182 words, rated E. Set after everyone’s favorite line from the Book 3 Demo.
---
By far the best part of Unit Bravo’s warehouse base being so close to Wayhaven is its gym. Harper doesn’t have to worry about annoying her neighbors working out in her living room anymore, and she doesn’t have to worry about bumping into Douglas in the closet the police department has been trying to pass off as a gym for years.
With the warehouse so close, it’s way easier to just drive over there and exercise, get some tension out with the punching bag or the ridiculously high-tech treadmill, and… okay, yeah, maybe see if someone (Mason, it’s always Mason) is up for combat training.
She thought things might be weird (weirder) after the bakery, but neither of them seems keen on bringing it back up. Harper wants to just ignore the way his words stung when he said them, and he… well, no matter why he looked uncomfortable afterward, he’s acting like his normal self now that they’re using her training as an excuse to be in each other’s space again.
It almost feels like it did before, and Harper leans into it hard, fighting back and trying to gauge what he’s going to do so she can dodge his blows and roll out of the way of his tackles.
She’s not great at it yet, but she likes to think she’s getting better.
She’s pretty sure he’s not just taking it easy on her at least. She’s definitely going to have bruises on her thighs and back from falling down, even on the padded mat, and her knuckles ache from the few blows she’s actually managed to land on him, even through the wrappings she’s wearing.
The longer they fight -- well, the longer he dashes around her while she hopes to make contact with him before he makes contact with her -- the harder her breath comes and the slower her reactions, until finally Mason barrels into her, lifting her up and slamming her down on the mat.
“I think you’re getting worse,” he says, twisting her arm behind her back just enough so she’ll feel it, but not so far that it’ll hurt her. “You need to train more.”
Irritation flows through her, washing away the arousal she always feels in Mason’s presence. Even the solid weight of him against her back isn’t enough to overpower it, and she just tries to yank her arm out of his grip.
He releases her and gives her the space she needs to get up, but she just rolls over onto her back and presses the heels of her hands against her eyes. “Fuck me.” She forces her words out from between clenched teeth, frustration coiling tight in her chest. She’s never going to be strong enough to fight back against any of the supernaturals she’ll come into contact with, so she might as well give up and go read those old books with Nate.
Mason’s long fingers wrapping around her wrists snap her train of thought in half, quieting the spiral before it gets too out of control. She almost forgets what she said until he presses her hands into the mat and shifts to kneel between her thighs.
“That’s not what I meant by ‘training,’ but I’m happy to help you out.” He grins at her, slow and wide, and tightens his grip on her wrists when she tests it.
It’s not what she meant either, but having his body so close to hers while the adrenaline from training is still swirling through her… it makes her reaction stronger than usual, all the energy surging between her legs so that she arches her hips up toward his before her brain fully has time to decide.
He leans in like he’s going to kiss her, but he stops when she tilts her chin up to meet him. Instead, he rakes his eyes down her body as his grin grows, and she can’t help but arch her back to entice him to touch her.
He shifts so that both her wrists are in one of his hands and reaches down to push her too-large tee up to expose her stomach, then higher to cup her breast through her sports bra. He squeezes, just this side of too painful, and his grin shows his teeth when she sucks in a sharp breath.
“Sure would help you work out some of that tension, anyway,” he says, and he leans down even closer, pausing when their noses are just close enough to brush together to wait for her to nod at him.
He always waits for her to say wants him.
The kiss starts deep, with his tongue dipping into her mouth right away like he’s just been waiting to taste her. She moans into it and wraps her legs around his waist, pulling his hips against hers. He moves into her, grinding down until sparks of pleasure flow through her.
He always touches her exactly the way she wants to be touched, like he can hear what she’s thinking to respond to it. He holds her tighter when she squirms, rocks his hips against hers in a slow roll, moves his lips to her neck the moment she starts to lift her chin.
She moans again as his teeth scrape over her skin, not even hard enough to leave a mark, but just the promise of it is enough to make her body flood with need.
Above her, the bastard chuckles, the noise pressed against her throat. “Delicious,” he says, and she curses herself for the way the word makes her heart skip. He bites at her again, a little rougher, then soothes the spot with his tongue while she spreads her legs wider.
“Mason?” He makes a curious noise and sits up just enough to look at her. His pupils are wide, his lips wet, and she can’t help the way her breath hitches at the sight of him. “We both have beds here.”
He doesn’t move. “Where’s the fun in that?” His smile grows as he speaks and he leans in to punctuate his question with another kiss. She lets him in, parting her lips for him, and tries to ignore the way it makes goosebumps roll over her skin.
The next time he pulls back to let her breathe, she says, “The fun is in Adam not interrupting us this time.”
Mason makes another little noise of consideration before releasing her. He’s up on his feet so fast she barely sees him move, then he has her up over his shoulder so fast it makes her head spin. She bites back a squeal and balances with her hands on his lower back, then lets them slide lower to squeeze his ass as he starts to move.
He spanks her in retaliation, and she bites her lip to keep from making any noise now that they’re out in the hallway. Being interrupted in the gym would be embarrassing, but so would someone catching them between the gym and Mason’s room.
If anyone sees them, they don’t say anything, and she’s none the wiser as Mason pushes through a door and brings them back into privacy. The bed he drops her on is her own, and she has half a second to realize he probably doesn’t want her in his private space before he’s crawling back on top of her to press her into her mattress.
She ignores the way that stings, because it’s what they agreed to at the start of all of this. Nothing complicated, he’d said, and she’d been so wound up she’d thrown herself at him. And here they are again, not seeing each other, but seeing each other naked.
She tries to ignore another flicker of annoyance at that, but it reminds her she hasn’t actually seen him naked in days. And if that’s all he wants out of this, then…
He moves when she pushes his shoulder, rolling onto his back at her direction. He starts to pull her with him until she slips off the bed to stand up, and he sits up to watch her.
He looks amazing already, hair mussed and lips just the tiniest bit swollen from their kisses. He arches his eyebrows when she doesn’t say anything right away, distracted as she is by the way his shirt is riding up around his waist, and he preens under her attention to goad her into action.
“Take your clothes off.” She tries to sound commanding, like she’s actually the one in charge, but all it does is make Mason’s eyebrows lift even higher.
“You first, sweetheart.” There’s a challenge on his face, and she rises to meet it.
She squares her shoulders and crosses her arms. “You just beat the shit out of me in the name of training,” she says, and leaves out the bit about embarrassing her at the bakery even though that’s what stings the most. “Least you could do is let me see you naked now.”
He licks his lips and then gives her another of his long smiles before standing up. He’s close enough that his arms brush against hers when he pulls his shirt off over his head, and it’s more of a struggle for him to push his jeans down without bumping into her, but she doesn’t step back, doesn’t step away from the challenge she’s presented him.
When he’s naked, he stretches to his full height above her and looks down into her eyes, his grin showing a hint of teeth. She rakes her eyes over his body, drinking in his defined muscles, the freckles sprinkled over his skin, the way he’s half-hard with his cock growing between them.
“Listen, I know you’re enjoying the view, but…” He breaches the distance between them, finally, first to tug at the collar of her tee and then to press his fingers under her chin to tilt her gaze back up to meet his. “There’s a lot more you can enjoy.”
He grins when she reaches out with one hand, and she’s gratified to hear his breath catch in his throat as her fingers wrap around his cock. She pumps him slowly, watching the way his muscles tense, the way his eyelashes flutter against his cheeks as he closes his eyes.
He’s beautiful, and she wants to wipe the smug smile off his face.
“Sit down.” She stops stroking him and pushes with that hand instead, guiding him down to sit on the edge of her mattress. He goes where she directs him, eyes wide and dark. He reaches for her hips and she steps back, moving out of his reach, and revels in the thrill that rolls through her at teasing him this way.
She pushes her shorts and underwear down and steps out of them, but she leaves her shirt on just because it’s long enough to block what he really wants to see.
He reaches for her again when she steps closer, but she wraps her fingers around his throat and he falls still. She can feel his pulse against her fingers, feels it quicken as she squeezes just a bit.
“This is for me,” she tells him, voice rougher than she wanted it to be. “Like you said. I’m working out some tension.”
The corners of his lips twitch up as she pushes forward, straddling him with her knees pressed into the mattress without letting go of his throat. He keeps his chin up and his hands fisting the blankets, waiting as she settles herself over him.
She shivers as she feels him hard and hot against her, want so clearly written across his features. She grinds against him, their eyes locked, and she can see the control slipping as she teases him.
She’s not sure how far she can push him, what he’s willing to put up with as she plays this game. She’s always let him take control before, but watching him squirm under her is making her wet.
When she finally tilts her hips just right and slides down onto him, he growls from deep in his chest. The sound sends a thrill through her, makes her wetter, makes the slide even easier. He grins at her when he bottoms out, like he knows what he’s doing to her, but he still just leans back a little to give her room to move and room to watch him since he’s the one on full display.
It is deeply satisfying to see his muscles twitching in an effort to stay still, to see his fingers digging into her blankets until they’re at risk of tearing because he’s trying so hard to give her what she wants.
She uses her thighs to lift herself up and push herself back down, slow the first time, then hard and fast. She takes from him, uses him for the pleasure she needs and doesn’t slow down to see how he’s taking it because she knows he can take whatever she gives him and more.
Under her, Mason groans with each thrust, a steady chorus that lets her know he’s enjoying this as much as she is. His pulse hammers away under her fingers, spurring her on as much as the pure euphoria coursing over her.
If she knew fucking Mason would feel this good, she would’ve dragged him away from the group the first time she caught him staring at her ass in her office.
“Does that feel good, sweetheart?” Mason’s voice, thick with arousal, makes her eyes snap up to meet his. “Is that what you needed?”
“Do you think your dick’s just going to magically make me feel better?” She sounds breathless, fucked out, and she hates that it makes him sound right.
He grins, showing his teeth. “I should’ve fucked you the second I found you in the gym.”
She slows her thrusts, switches to longer, deeper ones that make him lean forward, closing the distance between them. She fights him, just for a second, tightening her grip on his throat before giving in. She slides her hand around to the back of his head, tangling in his hair to pull his face to hers for a kiss.
He goes with her, but he bites her lip instead of kissing her. He tugs and she squeals, fucking down hard one more time before he finally gets tired of letting her do what she wants.
The room spins around her as he flips them, and then stars burst across her vision as he pushes her thighs apart and fucks back into her exactly as hard as she can handle. She howls as he laughs, and then she struggles to meet his eyes as he goes absolutely still.
“There you go,” he says, voice fake sweet. She doesn’t have any warning before he rips her shirt in half, shredding it like it’s a piece of paper.
Cool air hits her sweaty skin, sending goosebumps rippling over her body that have as much to do with the temperature as with the sudden display of strength. She doesn’t even bother to fight when he reaches up and gives her sports bra the same treatment, ruining her only clothes and completely exposing her to his hungry gaze.
“Isn’t that better?” His eyes darken as he stares at her, and she lifts trembling thighs to rest her ankles up on his shoulders.
“What are you waiting for?” She stretches her arms over her head and arches her back, just a bit, already confident she’ll be sore in the morning. “Fuck me.”
He doesn’t move except to lean closer, folding her in half just so he can kiss her. His lips linger over hers, almost sweet, then his tongue presses into her mouth in a demand. She lets him take from her, like she took from him, and she can’t help but moan at the feeling.
Mason smiles against her mouth and starts to move his hips.
His first thrust is hard enough to shove her up the bed, and she stops herself from hitting her head against the wall by pressing her hands flat against it. Mason grabs her hips and hauls her back into his lap, holding her steady so he can fuck her without the threat of slamming her head into the wall as he does.
She can’t hold back her moans this time, not with the way he’s hitting her just right, not even knowing the rest of Unit Bravo has to be able to hear her. If he’s going to fuck her the way she needs to be fucked, she’s going to let him know how good it feels.
She keeps her eyes closed tight until Mason shifts over her, lowering her legs from his shoulders so that her thighs bracket his hips again and he can lean over her without hurting her. His thrusts stay the same, deep and perfect, but the way he grabs for her hand with his free one let her know that he’s getting close.
He kisses her, deep and intimate, and she can’t help the way she clenches around him at the contact. The way he twines their fingers makes her feel like his words from the bakery were a lie, and that makes her clench around him again even though she hates it.
He can tell though, he can always tell. He can read her better than she can read herself sometimes, and he moves his lips down to her neck. She tilts her head to the side so he can reach her better, and he chuckles against her as he scrapes his teeth across her skin. The promise of a bite pushes her closer, and the way he nips at the underside of her chin is her undoing.
She scratches his back with her free hand as she comes, squeezing her fingers with the other. Pleasure washes over her in waves, pushed on by his unfaltering rhythm.
He curls around her, holds her tight, presses in as deep as he can when he comes just after her. Just as her muscles relax, his tighten, and he fills her deep inside with a groan pressed against her throat.
He kisses her again as he relaxes, then again as he slips out of her. She presses her shaking thighs together and he laughs, squeezing them both with his hands as he sits next to her on the mattress.
“Better?”
Damn the man.
“Better.”
His next laugh sounds smug, and she ignores it, pressing her hands over her eyes instead. She flinches when fabric hits her bare stomach, and she looks down to see his shirt balled up on top of her as he pulls up his pants.
“Since I ruined yours,” he says, a long smirk on his face. He winks and then he’s gone, leaving her alone, despite the way she aches to have him curl up at her side for a while.
The shirt is soft when she pulls it on, and she buries her face in it to cover her blush.
It smells just like him.

it’s near the end of the year - the decade! - and people are going to start making Those Kinds of Posts, so i will hop on the bandwagon.
Good Omens was one of two uniquely bright spots in my life this year.
(the other was going to Italy with Brian. i don’t think the Good Omens tag is going to be very interested in that, though.)
i’ve been suppressing some profound frustration about my job for a long time, and this year i finally had to admit it. i feel like i’m going through a meat grinder, totally burnt out, small-minded and naive for ever believing i could handle it. of course, all this took place against the grim backdrop of current real-life politics. this isn’t particularly relevant to the Good Omens, tag, either, but it is a little bit of background information about what the series is contrasting with.
because in the late spring and summer, Good Omens came along with a bunch of really passionate people behind its creation and all these amazing characters (aziraphale and crowley quickly became some of my favorite characters of all time, but everyone fits beautifully into the big picture; my other favorites are probably adam, madame tracy, anathema, and newt, i can’t really deny how much i love to hate gabriel, and i’m charmed by beelzebub in a way that’s very hard to describe). and i just want to be clear, it isn’t only that the series is brighter than, you know, the doldrums of work. it’s relevant to my frustrations. it’s about pushing forward during (what may feel like) the End Times, and finding faith in humanity again, and surviving oppressive systems.
the stakes are real and the characters get put through the wringer. but in the end, all of the central characters Made It Out Alive, and all of them found real happiness even after making a bunch of notable mistakes, because they chose love. i mean it’s a deep and complicated story and you can get many meanings from it but that’s the one i latched onto and refuse to let go of.
i read and thoroughly enjoyed the novel (for me it was about a decade ago). i always loved it, listed it as “one of my favorite books” when i got the opportunity. but the TV series...was written for the here and now, and i guess i really needed it, because it settled into my soul as things rarely do.
neil and terry and douglas and the crew and michael and david and the whole cast gave us a work with such richness and so many beautiful moving parts that they seem almost impossibly well-connected. i think if i were to try and translate it into visual form, it’d be a fractal pattern. and no matter how deeply i chase that pattern, i find more and more that resonates with my heart. it’s been an absolute joy getting to discover the wealth of content to analyze about the story and characters and share them with other people who are passionate about the same things.
Good Omens brought this simultaneous sense of connection and freedom that i’m constantly craving. at the end, everyone was happy, so happy, and in such harmony with the rest of the world, and they’d resonated so much with me that for a moment i got to feel the same joy i imagined they did.
i’m not confident that things will work out so well for the real world. it’s hard to look around at current events and feel okay about everything. but i’m willing to keep hoping and trying. Good Omens and its fandom is a lovely lantern to carry, a welcome companion when the sun is up, a comforting spot of light when the path is dark, and an inspiration all around.

Came across a post chiding those that had called Axel “edgy” (i can’t in my life remember him ever being called that seriously?) because kh3 had vindicated their belief he’s a softboy crybaby. And after my eye twitched both about kh3 and the post equating two diff people, i realized something.
KH woobified some of its own characters. Not “made more well rounded,” not “shown moments of human weakness.” Not even character progression. It just Poor Baby’d them.
Lea sits there useless and sad, making sad monologues the VA is half-asleep for which he wouldn’t have to do if KH hadn’t packed so much bs in their side games and demanded it ALL be necessary for a main. Can’t show him training or motivated to help, restless, snarky, or even just bored in a position that’d make my back scream. God no, that’d be too much personality. Being able to fight would be too useful. Just make people feel pity for him; surely that’s what they liked!
Both Saix and Xehanort get last minute woobied from nowhere. Both evil, remorseless bastards set on their goals, until Nomura just decides they need a hug or something. It still pisses me off. You know how complicated a plan was just given up because an old friend’s spirit went “c’mon”? I still want to kick Isa right off that clocktower to splat on the tracks in front of a passing train below, because “now that i’m dying again anyway, sorry i voluntarily turned evil twice and tried killing everyone” is not redemption.
Even Kairi, who had character development erased, was made to just...be there. How is she a better fighter BEFORE training?! And SORA, who had cried in games before yes, was made to completely break down out of nowhere this time as his friends get taken and lament how he’s “useless” for a bit. At the end of the game. After every world and fight he’s won. After doing stuff only a “Master” supposedly can do. He breaks then. Not, ya know, fiercely fight back or swear to get his friends safe first. Things Sora has done consistently.
Is Nomura suffering depression? Help him if so. Did he fall for the woobie trend and sadly think that makes compelling characters? (His “watch instead of play” certainly isn’t compelling for games.) The only other thing i can think of is he’s bored or sick of these characters, like Douglas Adams when he hated his own series he was forced to continue so much it shined on every page.

Tag game - Torchwood edition
Tagged by:  @humany-wumany-stuff
Rules: Always post the rules. Answer the 11 random questions posted for you. Create 11 new ones and tag 11 people. Let the person who tagged you know that you answered.
1. When did you start watching Torchwood and what (or who) got you to start watching?
I was actually a bit late to the party, since my personal history with Doctor Who is... complicated (and waaaaay too long to relate here, though I’m happy to share the story if anyone ever gets really bored). The net result is that I didn’t catch up with New Who and, by extension, Torchwood until long after Torchwood had finished its TV run. I think it was 2014, maybe? (Sadly, I’d already been spoiled for most major series events, so I didn’t get to experience the shock and dismay of those who watched when it was new.)
I started watching because yes please, more Captain Jack Harkness, thank you. But I stayed for Ianto Jones.
2. What is your go-to episode to watch when you’re feeling down/bored and why?
You know, I really don’t have that kind of relationship with television. I watch TV so rarely (by which I mean I went for 13 years without even having TV and didn’t miss it), and I have so little free time in my schedule, that I don’t tend to rewatch shows unless I’m 1) showing the series to someone new (which I’ve done with Torchwood) or 2) looking for specific costume references (which I have also done with Torchwood).
That said, I think KKBB probably packs the most pure, shameless entertainment value, so if I really needed a Torchwood fix I’d probably go for that one.
3. Which of the TW villains/aliens/whatevers did you find the scariest and why?
I think Torchwood’s storytelling was at its best when the team wasn’t facing camp alien monsters, but rather dealing with concepts and issues rooted in our reality. Suzie Costello was a decent person, slowly warped into a serial killer by the things she’d seen and done. Out of Time touched on aging and cultural disconnect and loss. Meat was about exploitation. Children of Earth used aliens as a frame to explore political corruption and the abuse of power. Those stories were much darker and stayed with me longer than, say, a poorly-CGed “fairy” with improbable dentition. (Apologies to The Mill, but those effects... weren’t scary at all.)
4. If you had to pick 2 characters to do a BF audio, who would it be and what would it be about?
Ianto Jones and Norton Folgate. Probably having to join forces to save Jack, or something. I don’t even care what the plot is, I just want a full hour of catty insults and cutting dialogue between those two. SO MUCH SASS.
5. What is your favourite fanfic-trope to read/write?
To read? Probably slow burn, but it has to be done really well. I also enjoy emotional H/C, if it’s believable and not just abusing or woobifying the characters.
To write? The pen-dulum (ha!) swings liberally between angst and dry humor/snark. I also have a tendency to get characters into really heated, emotional arguments, possibly because they’re all so stupidly repressed and it’s nice to see them let loose once in a while.
6. If you could assemble your own TW team (post-CoE) with canon characters from the extended Who-niverse (any show related to DW), who would be in it?
So this is basically just a list of all my favorite companions, right?
Core Modern-Day Team:
Martha Jones - brilliant medic; worked for UNIT; saved the world a few times. Won’t take guff from anyone.
River Song - Jack’s equal in every way, only far more likely to shoot you. Tolerates even less nonsense than Martha.
Zoe Heriot - super genius from the future who can calculate pretty much any mathematical solution in her head faster than a computer. Adorably perky, but not afraid to hit bad guys over the head.
Sara Kingdom - by-the-book former Space Security officer. The one who would constantly be reminding Jack that he’s in violation of Torchwood code #439.27 subsection A. Also handy with a blaster.
Ianto Jones - because of course he’s still around, why wouldn’t he be?
Victorian Team:
The Paternoster Gang (Lady Vastra, Jenny, and Strax) - They’re pretty much doing Torchwood’s job for them already. so why not?
Jamie McCrimmon - 18th-century Highlander. Only barred from the main team because if Jack actually had a young, athletic, kilt-wearing man on his regular team, he’d never get ANYTHING accomplished (also, Ianto would probably have to intervene due to Olympic levels of workplace sexual harassment).
Consultant:
Sarah Jane Smith and K-9 - journalist-turned-suburban-mom who still saves the world on a weekly basis, and her robot dog. She doesn’t really approve of Torchwood (that’s actually canon!), but helps out when they need it.
7. A question you would like to ask the actors on a panel (assume they are all present :p)
Since we know that the storylines and character arcs were often in flux as the series was being written, what grounding concept or idea allowed you to keep your character’s portrayal consistent throughout the series?
8. If there was another season and they would do a crossover with any show/movie/book/whatever of your choosing for 1 episode, what would it be and why?
This is a little bit cracked, but someone recently posted about a Dirk Gently/Torchwood crossover, and I think, with enough suspension of disbelief, there’s actually some potential there. I mean, except for the conflict of Samuel Barnett being in both series. (Though I could see some good material there, too...)
Apart from that, it’s already been, er, “established” that Sherlock and Doctor Who/Torchwood exist in the same universe (oh, Arwel Wyn Jones, did you know the chaos you were unleashing?), so... why not?
9. If you were to find out tomorrow that Torchwood is real and Jack is leading a Torchwood team in your home city, how would you convince him to let you join them?
Oh, man. Would I want to? I mean, what are my odds of survival?
I am (among other things) a professional animal trainer with some certification letters after my name, so I would probably just point out that they really need someone to train their pteranodon so it stops eating livestock and pooping on all the war memorials.
10. How would you recast the original Torchwood team? (Jack, Owen, Tosh, Ianto and Gwen)
Hmm, I’m not sure I would. The characters are so closely tied to the actors in my mind, I can’t picture anyone else playing them. I can only come up with alternate faces if we port it completely out of context. So here’s my completely ridiculous Golden Age of Hollywood Torchwood cast:
Jack - Errol Flynn (dat jawline, yo)
Owen - James Cagney
Gwen - Barbara Stanwyck
Ianto - Marlon Brando (young Brando. Not Jor-El.)
Tosh - Miiko Taka? (This is a hard one to cast in that era, because Toshiko’s Japanese heritage is so significant to her character, but there were so few headlining Asian actresses during the GAoH. Or... well, even today, for that matter.)
11. If you could pick any author to write a Torchwood novel, who would it be and why?
Are we excluding fanfic writers? Because if we’re going to talk novel-length Torchwood stories, I could name a few that are more consistent and true to character than the official ones... *sidelong glance at @gmariam321*
But while we’re dreaming of impossible things, how about Douglas Adams? He wrote for Doctor Who, and his own books spanned the bizarre (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and the tragic (Last Chance to See), so I think he would bring an interesting perspective to a bunch of alien hunters trying to save the world from their glorified sewer in Cardiff.
Also, potential sofa cameos.
In all honesty, I was going to do the 11-new-questions-and-tag-people thing, but it’s now 4:59 a.m. (ZOMG1 what am I still doing awake at this hour?!) and I really, really need to turn off the computer instead of thinking up creative new asks. So I’ll just open this up to anyone who hasn’t yet been tagged and offer them the same questions @humany-wumany-stuff posed!

Space (and Waffles)
(For Day one of Jane Foster Week: space)
“So,” Jane said.
“Yep,” Darcy replied.
“This isn’t good,” Jane said.
“I’m so glad you recognized that,” Darcy said sarcastically. “Now maybe use that big brain of yours to get us out of here.”
The comment stung a bit, but Jane couldn’t really blame Darcy for being angry. “Here” was a “safe room,” one of the many that dotted Stark Tower… Except, for reasons Jane couldn’t explain, instead of being in Stark Tower like it had been a few seconds ago, their safe room was floating in what appeared to be an empty swath of space. Sure, Jane could probably explain it given adequate data but sadly that data was unavailable at the moment. She and Darcy were basically floating in zero-g inside a box, and the only equipment they had available was a pencil and a few notes Jane had managed to snatch as Darcy dragged her into the safe room after the alarms went off.
Jane would be angry herself if she wasn’t still stuck in the denial stage of “holy shit we are lost in space and about to die.”
“Uh… yeah,” Jane said, frantically wracking her brain for anything, literally anything, that would help them. All she was coming up with were Douglas Adams quotes. “At least Stark built these safepod things really… well?” It was kind of a miracle they weren’t dead already.
“How long until our oxygen runs out?” Darcy asked.
“Oh, don’t worry about that,” Jane said. “It’s not lack of oxygen that will kill us. Carbon dioxide buildup is a more immediate concern.”
“Great,” Darcy said. She curled in on herself, floating in zero gravity in the fetal position.
Jane had to admit, despite everything, it was actually the zero g that was bothering her the most. The last time she’d been all floaty like this had been Aether-related, and Jane had been doing her level best to suppress those memories ever since it had happened.
“When I get out of here,” Darcy said after a few minutes of silence, “I am going to make out with Captain America.”
Jane snorted. “Seriously?”
“Yes,” Darcy said. “Life’s too short not to.”
“Just gonna jump him?”
“I’ll ask nicely first. I’m not a heathen,” Darcy said.
“I don’t remember you asking Ian before jumping him.”
“He had previously made it very clear that he would like me to kiss him, and also I thought we agreed not to mention the Last Intern ever again.” Darcy and Ian had been going out pretty steadily, until an accident transported Ian back in time. Jane and Darcy would have saved him, had he not sent a letter Back-to-the-Future-II style explaining that, instead of a daring rescue, he preferred to go off and marry a lady named Rose Roberts, so would they please leave him be?
Darcy had yet to fully sort out all of her Feelings about this development. Jane was sort of hoping she’d decide to go through with the rescue anyway, but it wasn’t looking like that was going to happen. Mostly because they were apparently going to die in outer space.
“Well, when we get out of here,” Jane said, changing the subject, “I’m making chocolate chip waffles.”
Darcy snorted. “Seriously?”
“Yes,” Jane said. “And I’m putting banana slices on them.”
“I have literally never seen you do anything more complicated in the kitchen than pour milk over cereal.”
“I can cook!” Jane said. “I just don’t… usually. But I can! And I’m making chocolate chip waffles, and you and Steve are invited to help me eat them.”
Darcy was silent for several minutes before she did a little somersault and uncurled herself, looking at Jane with big blue eyes that betrayed her fear far more than her voice had. But Darcy smiled at the scientist, despite everything. “Your post-rescuing fantasy isn’t very interesting, Jane.”
“It’s not a fantasy,” Jane said. “We are 100% getting out of here, and I am 100% making waffles for you and whomever you choose to makeout with.”
“I love you, Janey,” Darcy said.
Jane wrinkled her nose. “Don’t say it like we’re going to die.” “For real though,” Darcy asked, smile slipping off her face, “what are the odds of us getting rescued?”
“Two to the power of two hundred and seventy-six thousand, seven hundred and nine to one against,” Jane said.
Darcy blinked. Then she frowned. Then she spoke. “How could you possibly know that?”
“I don’t,” Jane said. “I’m just quoting Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”
Darcy snorted. “You’re such a nerd.”
Jane was about to reply when both women were suddenly slammed into what had been the floor until the lack of gravity caused that word to lose its meaning.
“Did we just get gravity back?” Darcy asked.
The two women started floating again. “No,” Jane said. “I think that was inertia.” She pushed herself toward the tiny window in the bolted and, apparently, airtight door. Previously, it had shown her only blackness speckled with unfamiliar stars. The view now was the same, save that instead of drifting slowly, they were apparently moving much faster. Jane couldn’t tell whether they were going the same direction or a different direction. “We’re moving.”
“Where?” Darcy pushed herself beside her friend. Jane moved slightly so Darcy could also see out the tiny window.
“I don’t know,” Jane said. “What do you think?”
“Maybe we’re being abducted by aliens,” Darcy said.
“It’s not Asgardians,” Jane replied. She was pretty familiar with most Asgardian modes of transportation by now, even Loki’s secret backdoors. Whatever was happening, it was too mundane to be Asgardian.
“Maybe we’ll finally get to meet some aliens that don’t look exactly like humans,” Darcy said.
“The Chitauri and the dark elves didn’t look exactly like humans,” Jane pointed out.
“Maybe we’ll finally get to meet some aliens that don’t look exactly like humans and don’t want to murder me,” Darcy amended.
“Fingers crossed,” Jane said. Mostly to the second part. So long as they were interested in keeping the two women alive, she could care less what these aliens looked like.
Eventually, they saw the walls of something vaguely garage-like pass in front of their window. “Probably a spaceship!” Darcy said.
“I told you we were 100% getting rescued,” Jane said.
Both Jane and Darcy watched the light change and then… bam! Their safe room and everything that had been floating inside it, including the two women, slammed down. Down, in this case, being what Jane had previously thought of as up, as she and Darcy both landed on what was supposed to be the safe room’s ceiling.
“Ow,” Darcy said.
“Yeah,” Jane said, pulling the pieces of her pencil out from under her butt. She had broken it when she landed on it, but better a broken pencil than a broken her. “Hey! Gravity again! That’s a good sign.”
A face appeared in their little window. A scruffy, male human-looking face, with red hair and blue eyes. The human-looking face smiled brightly at them and moved his mouth as though trying to speak. Jane wasn’t hearing anything. She looked at Darcy, who shrugged. Jane looked back at the guy, pointed to her ears and shook her head.
The guy with the scruff turned to say something to someone else. Then he appeared to be shoved out of the way by someone Jane couldn’t see. Then…
“Uh,” Darcy said. “Jane?”
“Yeah,” Jane said.
“Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”
“Is what you’re seeing a raccoon with a blowtorch?” Jane asked.
“Yeah.”
“Then yes, I’m seeing what you’re seeing.”
“Okay. Just checking.”
The raccoon with a blowtorch was moving its mouth as it attacked the door of their safe room with a carefully controlled flame. Eventually, something red hot popped out of the door to land on the floor-that-had-previously-been-the-ceiling, and three things happened simultaneously.
1. Air rushed through the hole the raccoon made, pushed there by the difference between the heavier atmosphere inside the spaceship and the sparser atmosphere inside the safe room.
2. Whatever had been sealing the door shut unsealed itself with a deeply unpleasant squelching noise. And finally,
3. Whatever Stark did to make the safepod things soundproof gave up the ghost and both women could hear the noises the raccoon was making to accompany the movements of its mouth.
Strangely, it was speaking English.
“-had to go and make these things locked up so goddamn tight you could lock a creclapt in one during its mating season and it wouldn’t even-”
“We can hear you now,” Jane said as the door swung open. “Do I want to know what a creclapt is?”
“No,” Darcy and the raccoon said at the same time.
The human-looking one appeared again. “Hi! I’m Peter, and this is Rocket,” he indicated the raccoon, “and we’ve just rescued you!”
“Stark hired us,” Rocket said.
“He has agreed to pay us with the coveted Terran cheeseburger!” a new voice said, sounding very excited. Gingerly, Jane stuck her head out of the safe room too see a female-looking humanoid with black eyes and antennae.
“Here,” said Peter said, helping Jane through the upside-down door. He did the same for Darcy. “That’s Mantis.”
“Thank you,” Jane said. For the helping, not the introductions.  “Thanks,” Darcy said, then turned to Mantis. “So… the coveted cheeseburger, eh?”
“Oh yes,” the female said. “We have heard much of Terran food from Peter. He especially praises the cheeseburger and the milkshake.”
Jane appraised Peter carefully. “How do you feel about chocolate chip waffles?” she asked.
He blinked and then grinned widely. “Very positively,” he said.
“Good. Because I’m making some as soon as I get back to Earth. You and everyone else who wants to come are invited to eat them with me,” she said. “I’m going to put banana on them.”
“I’d be careful about accepting that offer,” Darcy warned. “I haven’t actually seen any evidence that Jane knows how to cook.”
Peter leaned in and whispered to Darcy, “I don’t think anyone except you and me’ll notice the difference,” he said.
“I can cook!” Jane said. “And I won’t burn them.”
Spoiler alert: She totally didn’t burn them. But that turned out not to matter much when Rocket convinced an alien named Drax the chocolate chips were a far less palatable substance, and it took a lot of effort on the parts of Jane, Peter, and a green woman called Gamora, to convince him otherwise. Jane had to create a slideshow on the history of cacao. Darcy was no help. She was too busy making out with Steve.

Below is the day-by-day calendar of “theater openings”* in September, 2020, as we enter the sixth month of winging it online — and experimenting back offline. This month will see Brian Cox as George Bernard Shaw, Harriet Harris as Eleanor Roosevelt and Damian Lewis as Oedipus the King, as well as the return of Broadway’s Boys in the Band. The Apple Family cast gets a third go-round, and there are “reunion readings” with the original Off-Broadway casts of “Hamlet in Bed” (including Annette O’Toole and John Glover) and of last year’s “Sugar in Our Wounds.” The Met offers for free its new production of “Porgy and Bess” with such Heavenly tunes as “Summertime,” just as this unsettling summer’s coming to an end, and we can try to settle in for what would normally be the beginning of the new theater season.
September offerings are not just on screens (though they’re not on conventional stages either.). A new company will  launch six original plays that  we can call epistolary  — the audience gets involved in the letter-writing (see September 21). There is a decadent walking tour play of Greenwich Village (see September 30.).
Several ongoing series have been consistent in quality and output, several of them newly created during the pandemic.
Play-PerView (See September 12, 19 and 26) Livelabs: One Acts from MCC (which will reportedly resume in September, but has yet to make any announcements.) Viral Monologues from 24 Hour Plays (some 10 short new monologues almost every Tuesday) Playing on Air,  which has offered original audio plays with starry casts since 2012, has announced no new plays this month, but they keep their old ones on their site.
There is a promising new series this month from Urban Stages, which is putting its September Fest online on Wednesdays in plays that deal head-on with a contentious America (See September 2, 9, 16 and 23.) Every Wednesday this month (and on into October), the Chicago-based International Voices Project, will present translated plays from around the world, this year for the first time virtually (which means you don’t have to be in Chicago to “attend.”).
Stars in the House, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley’s daily variety and talk show since the pandemic began, fairly reliably presents Plays in the House — Zoom readings of well-known plays, often classics — on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons…and a Sunday matinee for teenagers.
And these shows are just what we know about. Since physical theaters were shut down in March, many shows are put together at the last minute, sometimes not even announced until the very day of their launch. (And there have been last-minute cancellations too.) Even the reliable Metropolitan Opera only announces its free online offerings for a week at a time. That’s why  I will be updating this preview guide every day, and highlighting the offerings each new day with a new link up top. This calendar as of this moment offers a glimpse of what’s in store. Come back day by day for a better look. (Some of the plays listed do require advance reservation.)
A reminder that this calendar lists when the shows “open.” Some are live and available only for that one performance. Other shows are available for four days, or a week, or longer.
*My definition of theater for the purposes of this calendar generally does not extend to variety shows, cast reunions, galas, panel discussions, documentaries, classes, or interviews — of which there are plenty, many worth checking out. My focus here is on creative storytelling in performance. (I make an occasional exception for a high-profile Netathon, involving many theater artists.)

Recursion “let’s go over this again...”
Recursion is the process a procedure goes through when one of the steps of the procedure involves invoking the procedure itself.
This concept interests me, because of the possibilities I feel it opens up. The biggest problem with recursion functions is how expensive it can be by stacking up on themselves indefinitely and eating away at memory until they exceed the capacity of the engine. In JavaScript recursive functions need to keep track of where they were called from each time, so they can resume at the correct point.
If you will follow me down this rabbit hole, you might find some cool stuff down here...
Could we be living in a simulated reality?
This idea has been around for a little while now, and brought to full scale in the movie from the Wachowski brothers (who are now sisters) “The Matrix” released in 1999. The film centers around a main character  “Neo” who is made aware of the simulation that he spent his whole life in.  I remember walking out of that movie and being in awe of the reality around me.  Was any of this world I perceive real?
Ever since that age there have been moments in the life I go through where an experience is so overwhelmingly positive. Often it stems from a series of circumstances some good and some bad, but pushed or forced me to make certain decisions.  Some of the best moments of life feel like they were willed into existence from a sequence of variables that had to line up just perfectly in order to occur.
“The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology”
This book by “Ray Kurzweil” was written in 2006 and is about artificial intelligence and the future of humanity.  The first few chapters go over the endless stats that point to this inevitable merger between computers/ technology and humans. He talks about how we have recently passed elbow curve in so many different stages of evolution. Everything in front of us is only going to grow faster until we are able to watch it manifest around us. While the human brain is estimated to process some 38 petaflops (thousand trillion operations per second).  Kurzweil displays how the collective computational power of machines has passed that of all the brains in the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kurzweil predicts in his book as we approach the vertical end of the exponential curve that the “Singularity” will occur sometime around the year 2045. This moment should be an incredible change to the world we currently know and exist in today.  Recently, 11 years after the publication of his book Kurzweil was quoted saying he now thinks the “Singularity” could happen as soon as 2029.
Recursion and learning in games
It was in 2006 when the computational and strategic game of chess was won over by the machines, and even the best human minds could no longer compete.  Recursion has been used to train these machines by running the same program over and over again. Playing itself and learning from its mistakes to refine the moves made to have least amount of losing situations.  Other games such as GO popular in eastern cultures, which is a claimed “intuitive” structured game. Was won over by machines when AlphaGo beat South Korean GO grandmaster Lee Se-Dol in 2016.  It is only a matter of time before machines can accomplish, replicate and master any human trait.
Elon Musk is changing our lives
One of the greatest minds alive today is fueled by the desires to push the boundaries of our reality and is trying to get our species to be interplanetary by getting the first humans to Mars within the next decade.   He read “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams at a young age.  By the time he was 12 he wrote the code to a video game called “Blaster” , which reveals a bit of where his passions are.
Tumblr media
After the sale of “PayPal” to Ebay, Musk went on to start many more companies with the money he made.  He believes that all his successes are just another piece to helping him provide commercial voyages to mars.  At “Tesla” he is creating revolutionary electric vehicles that are self driving and don’t rely on fossil fuels. At “Space X” he is setting the standard for how rockets are designed. Their rockets are reusable and capable of landing on specific locations such as a small landing pad floating in the ocean.
When asked if he thought about the possibility of living in a simulated reality he replied that we are most likely in a simulation right now.  In fact, he thinks about it so often that him and his brother made an agreement not to talk about it while in hot tubs.  He states in some interviews that there may be evidence that we have a 1/1,000,000,000 chance of living in base reality.
Groundhog Day
I swear this is going somewhere....
In this 1993 classic film called called “Groundhog Day” starring Bill Murray tells a story of a TV weatherman who finds himself caught in a time loop repeating the same day over and over again.  After going through this pattern or set of variables everyday the person being passed in “Bill Murray” is slightly altered each time through the loop until he ultimately has the perfect day.
Tumblr media
This groundhogDay function that takes in a person and a day as arguments. If the person does not have a perfect day, the function returns the same day passed in.  Otherwise when the person finally does have that perfect day, it will trigger the else action and add a day to what was passed in.
Coding of the MP3
I think this can be looked at as a step towards the idea of a simulated environment.  The team that designed the MP3 made a lossy data compression to reduce file sizes significantly, typically by a factor of 10.  This technology was almost a scrapped idea because everyone was listening to audio files on devices that did not play MP3′s at the time.  When compared with the MP2 the only real advantage was the size of the file.  Hearing and sight are just the first senses being reverse engineered by computers.  Technology is getting closer to renditions that are identical and sometimes better than the physical rendition of what we observe.
From rabbit holes to wormholes
In the show called “Through the Wormhole” season 6 episode 4, the narrator Morgan Freeman introduces a german computer scientist that believes our world could be computer generated on few lines of code.  He believes that it all boils down to one principal which is data compression.  According to him what we call learning is actually a form of data compression.  Take trying to find an address in a new city and how complicated that can be, but once the route has been learned the next trip is easy. Humans are problem solvers and any efficient problem solver is going to find a solution to the given problem that is both simple and fast.  He goes on to talk about breaking every piece into smaller programs, such as walking. He believes that events we consider as random accidental events only have the appearance of randomness, and are what he calls pseudo-random. If our universe can be computed then by definition it can not be random. Because purely random data can not be compressed.  We use a small program that lists or calls on all other programs and this master program allocates  run time to each sub program such that all of them get a portion of the total run time.
Tumblr media
While this idea may make us seem insignificant, this computer scientist believes it makes us more important.  He says if a bit of this program changes or is removed (any programmer knows could break everything). Maybe everything would disappear and in this model it could be very difficult to edit you out of it. If everything in our universe is made from code then the fundamental bits of our reality are information rather than matter.
Bringing it all together
For billions of years evolution was slow and took time to progress and the same thing would happen over and over again with only small changes.  As the simple tasks are repeated with slightly different variables the out come keeps changing.  To say yes or instantiate for the first time. The idea of moving 0 to 1, is to put into motion a series of events that can forever grow and learn from itself.  With computer computation growing and doubling in shorter and shorter lengths of time, and our ability to replicate reality.   Cameras and other various recording devices are also getting better all the time. The access to stored data is more accessible everyday.  The amount of time we are now capable of capturing and saving opens the door to accessing different spaces within the world we live.
As coders it is our job to connect users with data. We have an abundant amount of information, which is constantly increasing.  The internet in its current form is sloppy and half assed.  If we think about the MVP ( minimum viable product ) of what the internet actually is. I believe we are still on the skateboard or at most the scooter phase of how we as humans share information. We are from the “self driving car” version of the world wide web.
Tumblr media
It’s only going to get better from here. As users first we need to look at the internet and decide how we want it to look. We need to dream how it should work for us, and as we fix bugs for our experience. If we fix these properly we will end up saving someone else from having to face that frustrating issue. Thus they can spend more time on another task or challenge.
As we design the bigger functions to assist in displaying the physical world from digital information. We need to refine over and over again in a recursive manner until the rough edges transform into smooth surfaces.
I hope you found something fun in this rabbit hole, as I send you back to that place called reality;
“The Mad Hatter” says:
“There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter. “

Suggested Presidential Biographies and Memoirs
Tumblr media
As tomorrow is Presidents’ Day, here is a list of presidential biographies and memoirs that I have enjoyed and some that I look forward to reading.
Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow
A vivid and important illustration of Washington as general and President, and more.  Chernow brings Washington to live in an interesting way.  Won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Biography.  Chernow’s biography on Alexander Hamilton (who never was president, but was very important and interesting) is really great too.
John Adams by David McCullough
One of my all time favorite biographies.  Many of the founding fathers had an opinion of the outspoken John Adams, who was one of the strongest voices for independence in 1776.
Thomas Jefferson:  The Art of Power by Jon Meacham
A great biography of our third president, diplomat, and principal writer of the Declaration of Independence.  American Sphinx by Joseph Ellis is another great Jefferson biography. Thomas Jefferson was my favorite historical figure when I was a very young child.
Team of Rivals:  The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin
This book is responsible for the beginning of my fascinating with our sixteenth president, who is also the most written about person in American history. This book is simply a masterpiece. I’ve read this book twice, and I would read it again.  If I could only suggest one Lincoln biography to you, this would be the one.  Reviewed.
Lincoln’s Gamble: The Tumultuous Six Months that Gave America the Emancipation Proclamation and Changed the Course of the Civil War by Todd Brewster
A simply amazingly written book about the Emancipation Proclamation and its aftermath.  Brewster wonderfully illustrates how difficult the decision was for President Lincoln.  Reviewed.
I should point out that these two Lincoln biographies that I have read.  I have read – and reviewed – many of them in the past few years.  Have a look at the archive.
The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, Theodore Rex, Colonel Roosevelt by Edmund Morris
A fantastic three-volume biography on the always interesting TR.  A must read.  Douglas Brinkley’s Wilderness Warrior:  Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America is another great TR bio. That one is on TR’s great work for conservation.  I reviewed The Wilderness Warrior.
The Defining Moment:  FDR’s Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope
I read this one a while ago and remember enjoying it.  I’m not really that interested in FDR, to be honest, but this is a good read.  H.W. Brands biography on FDR, A Traitor to His Class is quite enjoyable.
 My Life by Bill Clinton
A very long memoir of the life and presidency of William Jefferson Clinton. Those looking for juicy bits about Monica Lewinsky should look elsewhere.  I debated as Clinton in 7th grade and I think he did a lot of good for the country.
Decision Points by George W. Bush
As concise as Clinton is longwinded.  I found this memoir to be enjoyable, even though the one of the only things I agreed with that Bush was PEPHAR.  Alas, he is the only one who can tell us what it was like to be president on 9/11.
The Black Presidency by Michael Eric Dyson
Dyson’s biography is a well written and thought provoking examination of the relationship that President Obama had with the black community.  Reviewed.
American Ulysses by Ronald C. White
My favorite biography that I read in 2016 is the complicated and amazing story of Ulysses S. Grant, a man and a president that I think most Americans these days don’t know much about – and should.  Masterful. Reviewed.
Some presidential biographies that I am looking forward to reading:
TR:  The Last Romantic by H.W. Brands
Truman by David McCullough
The Man Who Saved the Union:  Ulysses S. Grant in War and Peace by H.W. Brands
Nixonland:  The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America by Rick Perlstein
John Quincy Adams: American Visionary by Fred Kaplan

A bid bond is one of the types of surety bonds, that guarantees that the bidder will enter into the agreement and complete it according to its terms. The bid bond provides assurance to the project owner that the bidder has the knowhow and wherewithal to complete the job once the bidder is selected after winning the bidding process. The simple reason is that you need one to get the work. But the bigger question is why are more owners/developers requiring a bid bond in the first place? The answer is risk. Given the uncertainty of the marketplace, which includes experienced contractors closing their doors, to municipalities filing bankruptcy (or just slow paying), has led to owners being afraid that their contractors will be unable to complete the work. So, they require a some protection.

Typically, a bid bond and payment bond are done together in the same contract by the surety. This way, the owner of the project is assured that the project can be completed pursuant to the terms of the contract and that it will not be liened by any contractor. The bond is risk security for the benefit of the owner.

The general contractor is the entity that gets the bond. It is for the benefit of the owner (or in the case of government contract work, the governmental entity). Learning More About Applying and Finding The Right Bid Bonds For Your Needs
Bid Bonds can be complicated to apply for, especially if you don't understand how they work. Most individuals consider this as insurance, but it's actually a type of guarantee that the principal will perform their work properly for the obliged. Insurance companies usually offer a Surety Bid Bond, but you cannot call it insurance because its function is different. Most individuals will require you to get a bid bond before they consider your services as it is a form of guarantee to them.
If you'd like to consider applying for a bid bond or other bonds, you must understand how they work. We will provide you information on the importance of Bid Bonds and how they actually work.
The Importance Of A Surety Bid Bond
Bid Bonds will always be in demand to protect the public because it is a kind of assurance that your obligations and duties will be completed. Most states require you to get a license surety bond to ensure that your company will adhere to state code and laws and you get a contract bond to guarantee that a public project will be completed. A Surety Bid Bond is meant for the obliged since they are the ones that are being protected, but it will also benefit you because the clients will trust you and your work. There are thousands of bonds right now and the type of bond that you are trying to find will depend upon your situation.
The Primary Purpose Of A Surety Bid Bond
Bid Bonds are a three-party agreement between the principal, the obliged and the surety company. The principal is the employer or company which will perform the work and the obliged is known as the project owner. Construction companies will almost always be required by law to acquire Bid Bonds if they're chosen for a public project. The government will require a construction company to get a host of bonds before they work on a certain project. The bond will ensure that the sub-contractors and the other workers will be paid even if the contractor defaults. The contractor will cover the losses, but when they reach their limit, the duty will fall to the surety company.
How To Apply For A Surety Bid Bond
Bid Bonds are provided by insurance providers, but there are standalone surety businesses that focus on these products. A surety company must be licensed by a state Department of Insurance.
It won't be easy to apply for a bond since the applicants will have to go through a process that is comparable to applying for a loan. The bond underwriters will look into the credit profile of the applicant, their financial history and other key factors.
It means that there is a chance that you won't be approved for a bid bond, particularly if the bond underwriters see something from your credit rating that makes them think you will be a risk.
How Much Will You Spend?
You cannot put an exact cost on a Surety Bid Bond because the cost is affected by numerous factors like the bond type, bond amount, where it will likely be issued, contractual risk, credit history of the applicant and more. There are thousands of different bonds available today and the cost will depend on the bond that you want to get. The amount of the bond will be a factor because you could select a $10,000 bond or a $25,000 bond or higher.
If you already have a credit history of 700 and above or very near this number, you can be eligible for the standard bonding market and you will need to pay 1 to 4 percent of the Surety Bid Bond amount. It means that if you obtain a $10,000 bond, you only have to pay $100 to $400 for the interest.
Your Application For A Bid Bond Could Be Rejected
There is a possibility that your bid bond request will be refused by the surety company since it will depend upon the information that they can get from the background check. If the surety company thinks that it will be a risk to give you a bid bond, they will deny your application. Your credit history is one of the most important factors to be approved for a bid bond because if you have a bad credit history, it shows a risk of default on the bond.
You CAN get a bid bond even if you have a bad credit score, but most likely you will pay an interest rate upwards of 10 to 20 percent.
If you plan to get a Surety Bid Bond, make certain you understand what is required prior to deciding. It is not easy to apply for, but if you know more about them, it will be a little bit easier to be approved.
A Deeper Appearance At Bid Bonds in Construction If granted, a Bid Bond is a type of surety bond used to ensure that a specialist bidding on a task or task will enter into the contract with the obligee.
