Tumblr media
You didn't know if it was a blessing in disguise, or a curse. Perhaps a cruel joke the world was playing on you like it always did. Yet here you were again, your knee high fluffy socks skidding across the oakwood flooring of your room, scouring through your closet like a deranged cat looking for something to wear on today's decor run.
"Shoes, shoes…I'm missing shoes," digging through the furthest corner in the enclosed space of your closet, you spotted an unopened box on one of the shelves. It was a simple pair of heeled, white mary janes with a heart buckle. You got it 2 birthdays ago but never saw an opportunity to wear them, until now.
Your mother told you that Toji was picking you up at 10:30 am despite you telling her that you would go after lunch.
'He's a busy man. He said this is the only time he's free today.'
"Yeah, of course he is. Always busy doing God knows what." Sighing, you decided on your ensemble for this morning. It was rushed and unplanned, but it would have to do.
Looking at the time on your phone, you saw that it was 10:15. You've still got 15 more minutes left till Toji arrives to pick you up. Letting out a breath, you sat on your bed, shoe cladded toes tapping the floor as your knee bounced, restlessly waiting.
Going over to your floor length mirror, you checked over your choice of outfit once more. It wasn't too cold of a day, so you opted for a knitted long sleeved, off-the-shoulder, cream toned sweater dress that hugged your curves. With its hem stopping just right underneath your ass.
You were debating between thigh highs or leg warmers, but decided leg warmers looked better scrunched down on your ankles with the shoes you opted to wear. You didn’t do much with your hair last night since you were only at home, but since you were going out in public today, you felt like doing something with it. Something cute specifically, as you opened your vanity drawer deciding which accessory to wear today. Picking some silk ribbon you saw laying about, you braided it into your hair, sealing it with a rubber band and tying an extra ribbon into a bow to conceal it. And finally, you had your bag. Well, more like bear. The teddy bear backpack you had on matched well with the neutral color scheme. So, you went for it. Honestly, you reminded yourself of a doll. A doll with a pretty face, and a whole lot of problems.
Taking a deep breath, you puffed out your chest. Your confident expression stared back at you, but on the other side of that mirror you felt nothing but anxiety simmering the longer you stood there in silence.
"I might as well wait for Toji outside then." It was no use standing around in your room. The bed looked way too inviting as it only made you think of excuses not to go. You wouldn't let your bed get the best of you this time.
Walking down the stairs, you headed towards the entrance, petting your cat's furry head along the way. Upon opening the door, you were met with the sight of freshly layered snow. It was thin, barely half an inch thick, but it already had you feeling a little better with the anticipation of making a snowman with it once the days got colder. You remember there was a time when you used to do that with Toji.
God, you can't even reminisce about the past without Toji having some part in it.
You desperately needed to figure out how you were going to do this.
Last night was a bust. Not much progress was made besides the fact that Toji actually spoke to you for the first time in years. Not that he had much chance to do so sooner even if he wanted to, with you a couple hours away from home and all. But it was the bare minimum. Right now you needed a plan, and you needed to think of one fast.
Standing against the railing of your porch, you sorted through your thoughts. You're going to get picked up by Toji in less than 10 minutes. You'll ride in his car, pretend that everything's okay because it is, you'll buy whatever this party needs, and if it goes well you'll confront him on the ride back home. And that'll be the end of that.
Easy.
But when is anything ever easy when it comes to that man. Nothing. The answer has always been nothing.
This line of thought has you so deep into your own frustration that you don't even realize you've been ranting to your teddy bear backpack. Murmuring to it harshly, and rolling your eyes like you're gossiping with a friend about the latest dumb thing that happened on Twitter today.
And it's only when you see a black pickup truck from your peripheral vision pulling up, that you stare back at the bear in horror. Mind being snapped back to the present, and feeling embarrassed that you were seen like this. A man was causing you this much turmoil, that you've been complaining to a damn backpack about it.
Quickly putting your bag back on, you smoothed out your sweater dress. You really fucking hope he didn't see that.
Facing towards the driveway you paused. Your eyes widened, already in awe at the vehicle as you saw it more clearly up close.
The last car you saw Toji with was an old, red Toyota truck. It did it’s job, but definitely not without a couple repairs here and there every so often (that you may or may not have checked him out while he was doing so.) So seeing this new, shiny, black Chevy parked right outside the driveway was definitely an exciting upgrade. The wheels were lifted, making the body higher than its original design, and the windows were tinted midnight black, making it nearly impossible to see who was inside unless you stuck a cheek to the glass.
Overall it was big, and intimidating.
Just like him.
'Guess those freelancing jobs paid off then.’
*BEEP BEEP*
Jesus. You didn't even notice Toji had already parked. How long were you just staring at it for? If he started to honk at you, it must’ve been more than what society deemed normal.
Running up to the passenger side of the truck, albeit meekly, you stopped right in front of the door just as the tinted windows were being pulled down giving you a better view of the inside. There sat Toji on the other side, upper body turned and facing towards you with one hand still on the wheel.
Toji’s eyes almost popped out of his sockets at your appearance but it was quickly masked by a look of amusement.
"You busy daydreaming or what?"
Ignoring his remark, you placed your hands on the edge of the cold glass, peering up at him and around the interior.
“So, new truck huh?”
"Oh this? Yeah, got it not too long ago after receiving my payment for….from work."
You squinted your eyes in suspicion, noticing that he caught his words, but you weren't going to question it. No, you were going to let it go. You knew he wouldn’t tell you anything anyway, most likely just brushing it off as suddenly being hit with a stutter. He never spoke about his “overseas” jobs that he apparently racked up stacks of cash from, and despite him saying it was only freelancing work, you had a hunch it was something a lot shadier than that. You weren’t that dumb. Which is exactly why you weren’t going to ask.
Choosing to stay oblivious, you gave a compliment instead. "It's nice, Toji. Really."
You were about to open the door to get in and cut the small talk short (and because you’d rather bask in the in-system heating than out in the cold) but it wouldn’t budge. It was still locked. Why isn’t he unlocking the door?
Instead of unlocking the door for you like normal people do when picking up a person with their car, Toji isn't exactly someone you'd consider normal. Instead, Toji looked you up and down slowly as an awkward silence took over. You stood there rigid, allowing him to unashamedly undress you with his eyes. At least you think that's what he was doing. He’s being really bold today…does he seriously not plan to open this door?!
Your mind was running a mile per minute. You felt exposed, vulnerable, but you kind of liked the attention he was giving you right now. Especially since he hadn’t bothered to give you any last night. Not that you blame him. Looks like the effort you had put in, despite being rushed, was working, leaving him dumbstruck. You felt proud that you managed to have him speechless.
Unfortunately, your sudden boost in ego was quickly shut down.
"What the hell are you wearing?" Oh. Talk about anticlimactic.
"Huh? W-what do you mean?"
"I mean," He stood there, a single eyebrow raised, and vaguely gesturing to your form with his hand, "This."
Looking around to see if anyone else was witnessing this, you quirked your head in question. "What about it?"
"I know ya didn't just decide to go out looking like that when it's freezing out here. Go back upstairs and put some real clothes on." He looked at you sternly with a scowl etching onto the scarred side of his lip, arms crossing in front of his chest.
Was Toji actually scolding you right now? The nerve of this guy!
You hadn’t seen it right away, but after staring back at him in disbelief at what you were hearing, you noticed his own personal ensemble.
There’s no damn way…
Looking up and down at him as he had done to you just moments prior, you saw that he was wearing an unzipped puffer jacket with a hoodie underneath which was fine, you had no issues regarding that. The problem was what he was wearing below.
This man, who was condemning you on your sweater dress because it was apparently unfit for “freezing” temperatures, was wearing shorts and slides. At least he wore socks with it, if he hadn’t you think you may have actually gone back home and let him do the shopping himself.
You couldn’t help but let out a short laugh, but quickly shut up after seeing Toji wasn’t finding this as amusing as you were.
This was crazy.
Tilting your head to the side, you scrunch your nose in disbelief. “You’re telling me to put warmer clothes on, when you’ve got shorts and slides on?”
Toji was quick to counter. “It’s not the same, don’t compare it.”
“Yeah it is!”
“Look kid, I’m not gonna argue with ya. Either change your clothes, or stay home.”
That’s exactly what you want to do. But you know deep down you can’t, you already told yourself you had to sort things out with him. And the first step to that, is sorting this out.
‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ - - - - - - - - - - ୨♡୧ - - - - - - - - - -
After a couple pleading looks and adamant convincing of, 'I'm not cold!' 'I swear I'm fine. It doesn't even feel like winter out here!'
Toji relented. Letting out a sigh, shaking his head as he told you, 'Fine, whatever. But don’t come cryin’ at my feet when your stubborn ass gets sick and your mom gets mad at you.'
Now here you were, seated on the heated, brand new black leather seats of his Chevy after he finally gave in and unlocked the door, letting you in. You spent the trip with your head resting against the palm of your hand somberly, as you watched the scenery of snowy trees and other cars pass by.
The awkwardness throughout the entire car ride was at an all-time high. Higher than what it'd started out with earlier. You were both quiet; your brain a little less. Toji's disappointment regarding your attire was a total blow to your ego. You were just trying to look cute.
Not like it was meant for him anyway.
Is what you wanted to try convincing yourself in order to feel better, but really, you knew it was a lie.
As for Toji, that thought you had earlier about him ogling you? It was right on the money.
But he had to quickly save face by instead acting like a concerned adult worrying about the wellbeing of his innocent, young neighbor. If he was being honest, he didn’t give two shits about what you chose to wear. As long as it was for his eyes only.
Yes, he knew he’d hurt your feelings for telling you to go change. He understood that he was being overbearing and unreasonable especially after you brought up his own attire, but you had to understand. He physically couldn’t accept seeing you wearing an outfit that barely covered your ass like that in public when he should be the only one to see you looking like that. Yes, he was sick for looking at you that way and he knew that which is exactly why he needed you to cover up. Both so that no other creepy assholes (except himself) could see you that way, and because he doesn’t think he could control his thoughts about you for the next couple hours you have alone together. It’s why he had to shift in his seat a couple times. Though, you didn’t notice that.
This game you were playing with him? This seducing thing? With little skirts and shit, yeah it was doing something to him.
Maybe you haven’t changed as much as he thought. As they say, old habits die hard.
After about 15 more minutes of unspoken thoughts, you finally arrived at the store.
Why did you agree to do this again? Oh yeah, you didn't.
Unbuckling your seatbelt, you took a deep breath to try and regain your composure. Just focus on the task. Opening the door, you hopped down and out onto the recently snow-shoveled pavement with Toji following suit as he turned off the truck, taking the keys from the ignition and shutting the door behind him.
You could feel Toji’s burning gaze boring into your back as he walked behind you, keeping a slight distance between you and him but still enough that people could tell that you two came together. Entering into the store, you whipped out your phone, unlocking it and clicking on the notes app filled with a list of things you needed to get that your mom instructed you two to buy. You crossed your fingers hoping you could get all this done quickly and smoothly.
Obviously, life loves to humor you because things did not go smoothly.
Everything was going well at first, you scoured the aisles looking for streamers, fairy lights, pretty napkins, silver and white balloons, and whatever else was needed; putting it all into the basket that Toji was holding, still following you like a sort of puppy—or more like a guard dog with the menacing aura he carried around himself with every step he took.
Walking around you’d occasionally find something that caught your eye, tinkering around with the item for a couple seconds before putting it back down and walking over to the next intriguing thing—like a snow globe you found of a character you recognized filled with pink and white sparkly snow. You bet your ass you added that one to the basket. That hello kitty snow globe was a need, not a want. How something like that even found its way to a store like this was beyond you, but hey, you weren’t complaining.
You even found cute little hats while looking around and managed to get Toji to wear a pair of elf ears while you wore a Santa hat, telling him a silly joke about how he was Santa’s jolliest helper. That only earned you a huff, and roll of his eyes as he took off the ears and pulled the hat you wore down over your face, chuckling as he watched you make dramatics about how you were being suffocated despite being able to breathe perfectly fine.
Interacting like this with him gave you butterflies. You’d let him ruin your perfectly styled hair if it meant things were going back to the way they used to be between you both.
Everything was going fine.
You were actually having…fun. Which you hadn’t anticipated. You were so caught up about feeling like you were on thin ice with Toji, and though you still sort of felt that way, you felt ecstatic that things were beginning to feel normal. Like nothing even happened.
“Hmm, looks like the last thing on this list are more scented candles. Thought we already had some? Oh well.” You shrugged your shoulders. You think your own obsession with candles might have stemmed from your mom now that you think about it.
Toji leaned his body over your shoulder, looking down over your list himself at the check marked boxes except for one. You immediately stiffened up, not expecting him to get so close to you, and especially not for him to make body contact with you. You wish you didn’t have all these layers in the way. You internally shook the thought off before it could escalate. Now was not the time to be having these touched starved thoughts!
Pulling away from you, but still keeping close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating from his body, he put the basket down next to your feet. “Yeah, I saw a couple of those on the other aisle we passed by.”
“Oh good! One of us can get it. Stay here and I’ll quickly-“ Your suggestion didn’t even have a chance to reach the other end of Tojis ears before it got shut down.
“Nah, you stay here, and stay put while I grab it. And don’t go straying off you understand, kid?” Toji looked down at you, waiting for your answer. He’d rather not leave your side, especially since he didn’t trust that you wouldn’t get distracted by something and walk off like a lost mouse-but he tried to reason out in his head that it was only one item. He’d quickly get it and come back, and you’d still be there.
You weren’t going anywhere.
So why did he find it so hard to walk away from you? Must be some type of trauma he thinks.
Nodding your head, with a ‘Mhm! Promise. Not going anywhere. Nope, staying put.’ Toji searched your face to see if you were lying but decided you weren’t, and began jogging off towards another aisle in a different section of the store.
He couldn’t help but have a bad feeling about this as he looked over at all the scented candles, picking up the most expensive looking ones.
“S’not my money anyway..”
Maybe he should’ve just taken you along with him. It’s not like it would’ve caused the both of you any more hassle than going alone would. Shit. Something was gnawing at Toji to hurry the hell up and get back to you. As he briskly walked to the aisle where he had left you, he was met with something far worse than overpriced décor, and it had him seething.
There you were, face scrunched up, and looking highly uncomfortable as some random guy, around your age it seemed, was trying to flirt with you.
Keyword: Trying.
Toji didn’t know who this guy was but he knew damn well what was happening, and he wasn't going to let it slide. Not on his watch. That he wasn't even wearing.
You hadn't noticed Toji's arrival yet. Still preoccupied with keeping calm and trying to ignore this random man that thought it would be chivalrous of himself to make comments about your body. Saying things about how he doesn't know why your man let you out like that, and if you were his bitch he wouldn't let you out his sight.
It's a good thing Toji wasn't there to hear any of that.
What Toji did hear as he was silently coming up behind the both of you, that almost made him run up and deck the guy in the nuts was when he leaned his body down exaggeratedly to look at your ass and said, "DAMN. That's more ass than…. I've seen….in a while!"
This prick didn't even know where the hell he was going with that line, but Toji sure knew where that guy was gonna end up if he tried it again.
At this point, you were more than ready to kick this guy in the balls, but you didn't want to anger him. Who knows what this guy has got going on in his head? He's harassing you at a decor store for fucks sake!
Before you were thinking about making a run for it to the direction of where Toji had gone, deeming your situation helpless without him; it seemed like someone finally answered your prayers because the moment you looked back, there he was standing right behind the both of you.
'How did I not notice him?? He's wearing slides for god sake! I should've heard the 'plip' 'plaps'!'
"The fuck are you doing?"
The guy was still leaning down when Toji spoke up. He was about to cuss out whoever this other guy was for interrupting his daily "I objectify women for fun" hobby, until he looked up. There Toji stood, 6'2, built like he was made for war, in his shorts and slides, holding candles, and a look so threatening etched onto his face, you think this guy may have almost shit his pants. If the audible gulp meant anything.
"O-oh fuck. Look sir, I was just admiring your hard work, very beautiful daughter you have here. Didn't realize…Sorry." The way he ran away was almost pitiful. Almost. But none of you had any pity for trash.
'Well that was quick', Toji thought. He assumed he might've had to light up this candle he was holding and choke him with it but it seems that wouldn't be happening today.
That's one less crime the authorities could pinpoint on him.
Turning his attention towards you, he asked if you were alright.
"Sort of…not really. Being objectified isn't exactly the greatest feeling…" Toji noticed the way you hugged your hands around yourself, most likely trying to cover up. Suddenly feeling too exposed for comfort despite attempting to brush the interaction off.
Maybe you should've listened to Toji earlier and changed your clothes to something more fitting for winter weather. Screw looking cute.
Though, the regret didn't have a chance to get very far because suddenly you were being brought back to the present.
"Lift your arms up."
Huh? "Wh- why?" The next thing he did nearly had your heart leaping out of your chest. Taking off his puffer jacket, he nudged your arms to lift up so he could help put it through the holes of the sleeves. After checking to make sure it was on properly, he zipped it up a bit more than halfway and patted you down in an effort to make you look a little bit less like the emo version of the Michelin Man.
"You gonna be okay?" You were still a little surprised at the gesture, especially since it was coming from him of all people, but you answered, "..Yeah. Yeah, I'll be okay."
"Good. Lemme finish paying for all this crap and I'll drop you off at your place."
Leading the way towards the cashier, he placed his large palm over your lower back and kept it there until your goods were paid for, and you were out the door.
Situating yourself on the seats of Toji's car, you couldn't help but feel a smile creep up on you, desperately trying to bite it back. You're wearing his coat.
He put his coat on you.
You think you could die of happiness right now. But, you'll save that for later. That whole fiasco that happened at the store still had your mood all sour. You really didn't want to go home yet. And as Toji began to pull out of the parking lot, you spoke up.
"Toji? I don't really feel like going home yet.."
"Yeah? Aight. We'll stop somewhere, I know a place."
Nodding your head, you mumbled a 'thanks', grateful that he took the hint and didn't try to argue with you or ask any questions. Toji can be empathetic when he wants to be sometimes.
‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ - - - - - - - - - - ୨♡୧ - - - - - - - - - -
Apparently, when Toji said he 'knew a place', you didn't expect it to be…this.
"Cinnabon? Really?"
"What? You don't like their cinnamon buns? We can go someplace else if you don't want em.”
You paused. Well, now that you were thinking about it…"Okay. Yeah. Yeah, I do like those."
“Besides,” Walking over to the counter to order, Toji got into line, “I remember ya telling me one time that you liked this place."
He still remembers something like that?
You didn’t answer. Instead you followed the nod of Toji’s head telling you to leave the ordering to him and to go find a table to sit at. Looking around, you saw that all the tables were already preoccupied. Damn. Walking back to Toji, you suggested ordering it to go and just finding some place else to sit at like that wooden bench you saw just outside the establishment, which he seemed to favor far more.
Leaving him to his vices, you exited the shop and went to sit outside on the storefront bench, patiently waiting for Toji to get back with your food. Looking around there was still a thin sheet of snow covering some areas of the pavement, most having melted throughout the day or driven over by now. Yet it seemed as though the temperature had no plans of rising as you breathed out a puff of steam, remaining at its crisp, nearly frosty condition. It felt peaceful.
The few minutes of alone time you had to yourself was the most silence your brain has allowed itself to be in within the 24 hours of Tojis reintroduction into your life.
The oversized puffer jacket you still had on made those hours feel shorter by reminding you of just how much "excitement" had managed to happen—you bet you looked silly as hell with it engulfing your frame, but you couldn't find it in you to care about that at this moment. Especially since it was serving its purpose of protecting you against the cold that you found yourself surrounded by as you sat there waiting.
Leaning back against the wood, you felt something hindering you from going all the way. Your teddy bear backpack. You forgot you even had it on as it was hidden underneath the coat Toji had quickly put on you. Yeah, you must've looked really stupid. Fighting back a grimace and ignoring the fact for your own peace of mind, you went to remove the coat. Leaving it piled behind you on the bench as you took off your bag, placing it onto your lap.
Reaching into your bag, you took out your trusty emergency makeup kit. Wouldn't hurt to do a quick touch up… Looking over in the direction of the sudden sound of a bell being rung, you peered over to your left to see that it was just someone stepping foot out the shop with a cup of what looked to be hot chocolate.
'Hopefully Toji get's back soon.'
Focusing back on the task at hand, you clicked open a compact inspecting the state of the way you looked with the mirror. The sight that greeted you brought out a breath of relief. Not a single thing out of place. But just in case, you patted on a little bit of powder for good measure, and reapplied your clear lipgloss so the cold air could struggle to nip at your lips.
After assessing what needed to be assessed, you put your pouch back into your bag and immediately piped up at the sound of the door chiming again. You couldn't help but do a small cheer as you saw that it was finally Toji approaching you, carrying a bag containing your icing drenched cinnamon bun, a hot drink of some sort, and a bottle of water.
Handing you your food and drink, you thanked him and immediately dug in once it was within your grasp. Taking a bite, a bit of steam emitted from the warm and gooey bun melting on your tongue, flooding your taste buds with a mix of sweet and nutty spice. Damn, you were a lot hungrier than you thought. But you suppose that's due to having skipped breakfast in the morning. Stuffing more into your mouth, your eyes met Toji's to see him already sitting beside you and looking down at you, snickering.
"Hwat?" The question came out muffled from your cheeks being stuffed like a squirrel.
He looked off to the side for a second, still snickering before he answered, "Nothin."
Swallowing your food down harshly, you pouted with your brows scrunched together and took notice that you were the only one eating.
"How come you didn't get yourself one?"
He deadpanned. "I don't want diabetes."
"Right…of course not…" Such a Toji answer, you thought.
It felt a little weird to be the only one eating, but he kept refusing everytime you asked if he was absolutely sure he didn’t at least want a bite. It was silent between you two except for the occasional slurp of your drink, and you think Toji noticed it too because suddenly he started conversing with you, catching up a little bit on how the both of you have been.
"So kid, how's the university life been treatin' ya?"
"Hm? Oh uhm, it's been alright I guess." You shrugged, fork still in hand.
"Just alright? Sounds pretty lackluster to me."
"It is." You sighed.
"You tellin' me you don't, what- party? Or done those weird cultist initiations you kids do at sororities."
"Yeah…no. I'm too busy actually studying most of the time. I've been to like 2-ish? parties, but that's about it. And sororities? You couldn't possibly pay me to join one of those.” You’ve heard one too many stories of premature deaths being caused by sororities. You didn’t particularly feel like gambling your chances. Plus, you weren’t really into the whole sisterhood-brotherhood thing, too weird.
As the conversation progressed between your frankly unexciting school life, Toji recalled some neighborhood fiasco that happened while you were away.
"...Then this kid's boyfriend starts beating up the guy that tried to take her purse."
"No way! This really happened in our neighborhood? Where like.. nothing ever happens?" To think that a crime had actually happened in the most safest, suburban of neighborhoods that you lived in for your whole life and you weren't there to witness it.
"I'm tellin' ya it was set up to make himself look good. A robbery in broad daylight? In this neighborhood? Bullshit."
"Why does all the exciting shit always happen when I'm not around?" You whined, sighing out your disappointment.
Closing the box to your nearly finished cinnamon bun and placing it beside you on the bench, you suddenly remembered something.
"By the way! My mom told me you have a son? How come you never mentioned him to me before?"
And just like that, Tojis brows immediately furrowed as if the question was one he hadn't expected to be asked, especially not coming from you. Leaning forward with a grunt, he rested an elbow on his knee, propping a palm under his chin as he proceeded to look at you with the most dramatically bored expression you’ve ever seen on someone's face- one that rivaled even yours.
It screamed, ‘let's get this shit over with.’
"You never asked. Besides, why you askin' about him now?"
You noticed the way his mood instantly changed after mentioning him but...it was probably nothing right?
Regardless, he didn't seem to be exactly… excited at the mention of his son, so you treated lightly with your next words. “Well, my mom is telling me that I should start looking for a good boy to date and she mentioned your son.”
He laughed out in disbelief. “Gumi? That boy? Ha, good luck with that. He wouldn’t know the first thing on how to treat a girl.”
He couldn’t treat you the way I could. Is what he wanted to say.
Awkwardly you answered, “Well… anyway, I don't think he even goes to my Uni…I think. So it wouldn't really be an option.”
Toji stayed silent.
The sudden uncomfortable silence that took over had you overthinking all over again.
What's wrong? Does he have a bad relationship with his son? Is that why he looks irritated? Should I ask? No. He might get more irritated. Shit. Okay, subject change.
Slamming your hands onto your thighs a little too hard in an attempt to calm your nerves, the sound seemed to catch Tojis attention. Snapping him out of whatever trance he was in, and back to his usual demeanor.
You rubbed your arms out of awkwardness. “Sooo, yeah. Sucks, I wasn't there to witness a fraudulent act of chivalry right in my own neighborhood."
Toji was thankful you moved on from the topic of his son, he didn’t want to think of that little squirt right now.
But then it got him wondering…
"You ever had a boyfriend before?"
The question surprised you a little. Okay maybe a lot. You didn't think he'd be even remotely interested in your love life.
"No… I've never had one." While there was no shame in not having had a significant other at your age, still you couldn't help but feel embarrassed admitting it to Toji.
Toji raised a brow in suspicion. "You sure you're staying clear of boys?"
This behavior he was exhibiting was starting to confuse the hell out of you. First he scolds you on your attire this morning, and now he's interrogating you on your love life? He was being way overprotective, almost acting as a parent, and it was seriously beginning to make you feel hopeless.
You nodded. "Yes, Toji. I'm not interested in college guys. They don't know what they're doing,"
That answer seemed to be good enough for Toji, but to both his and your utter surprise you continued, "But I've done other things."
Straightening his back up against the wooden bench in interest, Toji beckoned you to continue on. Truth be told, he didn't want to hear you talking about boys. Just the thought of you with some dumbass little boy made him irrationally bothered. But there was one thing itching at him to ask.
One thing he simply had to know.
"Oh yeah?"
"Just casual stuff. Nothing serious.."
Toji hummed. It was cute how you were beating around the bush about whatever 'things' you've done. He'll humor you this time around.
"We talkin' the 'clothes on' type of stuff?"
"Well…not exactly.."
Your lack of elaboration following your answer made Toji egg you on further.
"Don't start gettin' all shy on me now. Let me take a guess, this has somethin' to do with how you mentioned that college boy's don't know what they're doing, yeah?
And like clockwork, the words proceeded to flow past the tip of your tongue without a second thought.
"Remember how I also mentioned earlier that I've gone to only a few parties? Well at one of those parties, I got left alone by my friends in favor of hooking up with some guys they thought were hot."
"Sounds like some shitty friends."
You grunted. "Tell me about it. Anyways, here I am, sitting alone on this couch that's thankfully only mildly sticky from whatever wasted student had spilled their drink on top of it, and this guy sits right next to me. We talk, things happen, and we find an empty room."
Toji hums, signaling to you that he's still listening.
Immediately, irritation is apparent on your face by the way your eyes narrow as you recall the memory. "He puts his hands in my pants and this dumbass can't for the life of him find where my clit is and is just rubbing around. Then he has the nerve to ask if I came yet!? Bitch I'm not even moaning!"
Toji nods, intently listening to your rant. Biting back his amusement at your outburst.
"And the same fuckin thing happens again except with a different guy I had been seeing for less than a week. Except—get this, he asks me what a clit is. Like are you for real!?"
Taking a deep breath, you tried channeling your nerves. "So that's that. College boy's don't know where the clit is—hell, they don't even know of its existence."
Slumping your shoulders, you kicked at the tiny stones on the cement with your shoe.
"It's why I've never gone further than that."
If you were being honest, even if those guys did know their way around a woman's body, you don't think you could find it within yourself to stick around for it. You already knew what your mind was banging against your skull to say. Deep down, somewhere in the backrooms of your brain, you know it's because of Toji. It's always been him; the man you're still holding out for. Hoping he'd be the one to take your virginity.
Whatever. It was a pipe dream anyway. And you definitely weren't going to tell him that.
Speaking of telling him…
‘Why did you tell him all that!? Why did you have to run your mouth!!’
You stammered out an apology. The gravity of what you just up and confessed dawned on you, leaving you a cringing mess from within.
"I-I'm sorry…I don't even know why im telling you all this-"
Toji is quick to dismiss the apology. Truth be told, he was delighted to hear that you were still a virgin.
“Don't worry bout it’. It's nothing to be embarrassed of.
“I mean yeah…but still…”
Turning to face you, Toji placed his hand gingerly upon your thigh, giving it a light squeeze in what you assumed to be an attempt at reassurance or maybe it was comfort? You couldn't really tell, you just knew that the warmth of it felt nice.
“Listen, if I’m tellin’ you that being a virgin is nothin’ to be ashamed of, then its not. Look at it this way, you ain’t a teen mom, something not many can say nowadays.” He shrugged.
He kind of had a point. Though his comforting skills were kind of ass.
“Yeah..okay. Thanks for listening then.”
“No problem.”
You thought after your little rant the atmosphere would return to its awkward state as it seems that's how it had been every time you spoke with Toji—yet oddly enough, it felt like you had somehow managed to get closer to him by opening up about your struggles.
Suddenly feeling a spout of hunger befall you once more, you took the last remaining bite of your cinnamon bun, slowly licking off the icing that had gotten smeared onto your lips.
Toji eyed the action intently, internally shaking a head at himself.
‘This little minx..’  but before you could make eye contact he abruptly withdrew his hand, fishing a phone out his pocket and checking the time. Huh, you hadn't even noticed his hand had still been on you.
“It's already almost 4, think it's time to call it a day.”
With a sound of surprise, you rose up from your seat, closing the box once more as you watched Toji stand up from his own spot, already patting on his pockets for the car keys.
You hadn't even noticed that much time had gone by.
“Thanks again for the cinnamon buns and of course, for listening.”
Toji only hummed in acknowledgement.

The ride home was spent surrounded by the sounds of muffled radio chatter, ever so slightly noticeable with the engine of the truck at a constant thrum. The sun surprisingly hadn't gone down yet as it typically would have on any other winter day and you made sure to thank your lucky stars for those few more minutes of sunlight.
On the other hand, you couldn't help but feel sad. You didn't want the day to end yet, especially not when progress had been made between the two of you. Then it hit you, progress had been made. While you didn't actually confront him about what had transpired on that faithless day, it was still worth celebrating.
Baby steps are still steps after all.
And the more you thought about it, it began to occur to you that today…today kinda felt like a date. In a messed up sense. To others this would've been a failure of a day, but to you? You were elated.
‘Maybe now's my chance to talk to him about what happened back then.’
Sitting up just a little bit straighter in your seat, you turned your head to face Toji, contemplating on the right words to say to him. Just when you were on the verge of starting your sentence, Toji’s phone suddenly began to ring, vibrating atop the center console.
Without bothering to check who was calling him, Toji answered the phone, putting it on speaker. Nothing to be worried about anyway, probably some scammer giving Toji his routine call.
“Yo, what’s up?”
Without a second to waste, a feminine voice practically cried from the other end.
“Tojiiii, baby it’s been so long, when are you coming over?? You know I miss you-”
Before this unknown lady could hope to finish her sentence, she was abruptly hung up on–courtesy of Tojis hand flying to take the call off speaker, fumbling for a good second only to ultimately end the call for good measure.
Clearing his throat, Toji continued to keep his eyes focused on the road ahead. Can't be having you both end up in a car crash right?
“Sorry about that, that was… just one of my old close friends.”
“Uh huh. Ya’ll must've been real close.”
Toji ignored the snark.
“Anyways, go ahead, what were you saying?”
“I…wasn’t saying anything.”
Thankfully the call was received just minutes short of arriving at your home. Pulling into the driveway, the truck on neutral, you waited a few seconds to see if Toji would say anything more. He didn’t.
Holding back a shaky sigh, you unbuckle your seatbelt and exited the vehicle, opening the passenger side to pick up the bags of decor that you went to buy in the first place.
“Wait, let me help ya out-” Toji last minutely interjected as he turned his body over in his seat to face you.
“No need. I already got it.” Picking up the last bag (thankfully they weren’t very heavy), you slammed the passenger door shut. You contemplated giving Toji a proper farewell bidding but with the way you were feeling right now? You didn’t want him to see the ache painted in your eyes. Instead, you continued walking down the shoveled path and up the steps to your house, fishing the keys out from your keychain and unlocking the door, closing it behind you.
Kicking your shoes off and slipping some slippers onto your feet, you laid the bags over the kitchen counter letting whoever discovered them first deal with the contents inside as you made your way up the stairs to your room, plopping onto your bed face first.
You nearly teared up at your own naivety.
Holy shit. ‘I’m so stupid.’ Was all you could think of as the booty call Toji had received replayed in your mind. This wasn’t any new information on Toji that you hadn’t already known about yet it hurt so bad.
‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎- - - - - - - - - - ୨♡୧ - - - - - - - - - -
On the other hand, Toji couldn’t help but feel the same way. When he saw you safely get back into your home, he shifted gears to reverse, pulling out the driveway and driving back to his own place.
Closing his eyes for a moment, he pulled out his phone from the cup holder it fell into amidst his struggle to end the call earlier and proceeded to call them back.
One ring was all it took for them to answer, and one second was all it took for Toji to cut them off before they could say anything more.
“Don’t fuckin’ call me again, understand? Good. Now, fuck off.” Hanging up before she could respond or attempt to call back like an idiot, he blocked her.
Letting out a rather loud groan of irritation, he gripped the steering wheel with both hands in indignation, letting his head fall as he could feel a headache coming on.
“Fuck.”

Laying on your bed disappointed, you curled up thinking about the events that transpired earlier. The whole trip felt like an actual date—up until that call anyway. It was probably the worst way the day could have ended. Your bad luck was unimaginable.
“I need to find myself a four leaf clover or something at this point…”
Honestly, you didn't want to get out of bed. You wanted to lay down and wilt like a flower that never gets any sunlight. Stuffing your face into your arm, it occured to you that you were still wearing Toji’s jacket.
“Maybe I should stop trying to go after someone who’ll never like me back…” You mumbled to yourself, sitting up and throwing the coat towards the nearest chair it could land on.
Were you really this delusional? You saw the way he was looking at you—you shook your head, trying not to overthink it.
‘I guess I had the wrong idea.’
Feeling defeated, you knew if you wanted to continue moping about this, you’d have to do it after a shower; lest you end up skipping your skincare routine leaving you with another thing to sulk about.
‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎- - - - - - - - - - ୨♡୧ - - - - - - - - - -
You couldn’t sleep.
Restless, you tossed and turned trying to find that sweet spot that would have you suddenly waking up to the birds singing. Come the fuck on..! I just want to sleep, dammit!
Grunting, it seemed no matter where you tried to place yourself within the comfort of your sheets and plethora of pillows engulfing you, you just couldn’t seem to knock yourself out.
Only one option left.
Slipping a hand underneath the blanket, you let your fingers wander across your skin. Giving each of your tits a soft squeeze under your shirt as you slowly began to relax, sighing in content at a teasing roll of your bud, slowly hardening at your touch.
Growing tired of the teasing and beginning to feel heavy with need, you ran a finger down your panties, keeping it firmly pressed against your slit as you slowly raised your hips up and down in tandem with your middle finger, rubbing yourself over the cotton material. You could feel yourself getting hotter, wetter. A small, sticky patch of your own arousal seeping through the garment as you finally had enough, moving your panties to the side and making contact with your sickened clit. You wasted no time in parting your lips with your pinky and index, and letting both your middle and ring finger draw tight circles over your bundle of nerves. Immediately settling into a steady rhythm that was sure to have you quickly coming undone.
As your breathing picked up, so did the small whimpers escaping through your lips. You tried your best to stay as quiet as possible, but fuck was it hard when all you wanted to do was mewl out a certain someones name, imagining it was him playing with your pussy like this.
Toji.
Even just sounding his name out in your head had you bucking your hips against the friction you were creating. His large, warm hand stuffed down your panties, and cupping your pussy from behind while rubbing at the entire expanse of your puffy cunt messily. Fast. Drenching his palm in your juices. Wondering what it'd feel like to have his long, fat fingers plunge into you as your own currently probes at your clenching hole, dipping in slightly only to take it back out. It didn't feel—wouldn't feel nearly as good unless it were his.
You felt so close. Your fingers were starting to ache as you exerted them, moving it against your swollen clit quicker than before. It started to hurt, but the feeling of adrenaline rushing through you to finish made your brain block it out, replacing it with the endorphins of white hot pleasure that you anticipated to burst at any minute now.
You clamped your legs around your hand, curling into your side like a ball. You wanted to stop, it was too much. But you were so fucking close. Your shaky whines were no longer being held back, eyes squeezed shut and the side of your face pressed against your pillow muffling it as best you could to prevent it from being heard outside.
Just a little more…
Come on come on come on..! Your hand wouldn't stop unless your body reached its peak, only increasing in its pace. Holding your breath, the sound of your palpating heart was deafening as you continued letting out harsh pants.
You felt the familiar feeling of your lower abdomen tightening, coiling up and finally bursting like a dam. Your toes curled up as you threw your head back further into the pillow, unable to stop the sudden cry of Toji’s name that accidentally slipped out from your parched mouth at the pressure of your orgasm rushing over you like a tidal wave.
Before you could bask in your post orgasmic bliss, Toji bursts through your door. The fucking man himself. In the flesh..?
In a panic, you pull your stiff hand away from between your legs as if it were scalding hot oil, grasping the blanket up towards your chin to cover what you’d just been essentially caught doing.
“Heard you screamin’ my name out, sweetheart.”
You’d think any normal reaction to being intruded on by the person you were just fantasizing about would be to first ask some questions—yet there you laid calm as a cucumber, watching as he inched closer to you.
Toji smirked. “Don’t start gettin’ all shy on me now. Let me hear you scream my name again for me.”
You don’t know how he got to you so quickly but Toji was already slipping his hand under the covers towards your pussy, finding it slick and sticky from your high, smearing it all over as he ran his fingers up and down your sensitive slit.
Retracting his hand back from underneath, he relished in the way your arousal stuck to his fingers like a spider's web as he spread them out, glistening against the soft lighting of your suddenly oddly hazy looking room.
Fueled with newfound urgency, Toji threw the covers off of you, yanking your body up to stand on the floor as you both made your way towards your vanity, back hitting the edge of it as you steadied yourself against Toji's chest. It was all moving too quickly. Too fast. Before you could stop to process your surroundings properly, Toji’s large hand hastily groped your tits as his other fingers that were touching on your pussy earlier prodded at your mouth to open. Without a word, you wrapped your lips around them like a good girl, sucking—tasting yourself before he removed them in order to turn you around.
Just then, you realized you both were naked as Toji lifted one of your legs up onto the vanity, dragging his wet fingers over his cock as he moved to align it with your dripping hole. You couldn't form a thought. As if on autopilot. Only the unbridled, desperate need to have Toji in you remained.
No. Scratch that. You felt your own thoughts before you could form them, as if it weren’t your own. It definitely was though. You don’t think anyone could too how fucking badly you wanted this man. Now he was finally about to fuck you? You may as well have been the luckiest woman on planet earth.
And as you begin to feel the sensation of Toji's cock about to enter you—confirming that notion, the door to your room bursts open again.
Wait.
“Wake up.”
What?
“Wake up!”
Is that my fucking cat talking!?
“WAKE UP!”
Groggily opening your eyes, you're met with early winter sun seeping through your thin curtains, casting a hazy glow into your room. You hear birds singing.
“What the hell was that…” Stretching the sleep out of your limbs, you noticed your hand was still situated inside your panties.
You closed your eyes, trying to recall your dream. “So half of that was real?” Well, up until Toji bursted into your room, you suppose. And when your cat spoke up telling you to wake the fuck up.
Ugh.
Sitting up, you rubbed your eyes, leaning over the bedside to pull your diary sitting on your nightstand towards your lap. You had to write this shit down.
‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎- - - - - - - - - - ୨♡୧ - - - - - - - - - -
After jotting down as much as you could recall from the dream without mixing it up with what you were actually getting up to in real life, you left the diary on the same vanity dream version Toji almost dicked you down on.
Throughout the day, you couldn’t stop thinking about Toji. Hell, your feelings for him increased tenfold just from that measly dream alone. You don't know if it's solely your dreams doing that made you feel like you suddenly had a genuine chance with him but fuck it.
You thought about the events of yesterday and recalled when he grasped your thigh. That couldn’t have just been nothing right? The way he eyed your lips too as you licked icing off them. He didn't think you noticed, but you did. Of course you did. It was on purpose after all.
And the icing on the cake? When you brought up his son, Megumi. You didn't want to assume anything but you could've sworn you sensed jealousy swimming in those green eyes of his. How ironic.
Shit, maybe you do have a chance with Toji after all. All he needs is a little push.
With all the evidence stacked up in your favor, you knew you had to devise a plan.
A plan on how to seduce your neighbor.
You giggled to yourself.

synopsis: the duke loves you dearly, yes, but how could you possibly know that? includes: bridgerton au, suggestive, profanity , hoon is a rake
Tumblr media
as duke and duchess of hastings, it was expected that you produce an heir within the year. being the notorious love match of the season, the diamond and the duke, the image of your family back in london was counting on your ability to ‘perform your duty’, as the ton loved to put it.
sunghoon, your husband, the duke, had been the one to propose the deal. you’d been told your whole life that your interests meant nothing if your husband did not share them, yet he had asked you what your favorite color was. you had been told that horse riding wasn’t ladylike, yet he had shown you his favorite mare and asked you if you’d ever ridden.
he was all the right things, you’d thought. though truthfully, he had one quality you couldn't look past. he was a rake. he frequented brothels, fucked whores, but called on you and gave you the most expensive flowers, and spoke the sweetest of nothings. it was almost enough to look past. you’d thought that you’d be able to get past it, that if he was in love with you enough to propose he’d be in love enough to stop visiting the brothels.
that hope was shattered the moment he’d proposed. it wasn’t romantic, nor was it anything you wanted.
“a deal?” you remember asking when he had looked at you with eyes you had never seen so unfeeling, “or a marriage?”
“you will be allowed the estate. every luxury you desire will be yours.” he had stated, “while i—“
“spend your nights at your beloved brothels?” his face when you had spoken those words had sent your heart into its own frozen hell. “you do not have to explain yourself, your grace.”
and so, the two of you married. you knew that despite the pieces he had left your heart in he would keep his word, and he did. you’d never worn such luxurious gowns nor felt fabric so soft and breathable as your nightdress.
your mama had told you little about what the night of your wedding entailed, only that if a certain event did not transpire the marriage would be null. that event was never described in full to you by your mother, only hinted at by jane austen, and yet it had been nearly a month since your nuptials and the duke had left the space between the two of you alarmingly obvious. the large bed that while you both slept on you did not share, the avoidance of eye contact, and the heat of his hand on yours only for him to pull away before you can let it pool.
on mornings that you allow yourself to sleep in, you are unsure if the ghostly touch along your cheekbone and the gentle tucking of your hair out of your face is your imagination or just the breeze coming from the open window. on nights that you are plagued by the feeling of being undesirable, you can feel his gaze on your back when he thinks you’re asleep.
on a night like this one, you find yourself reaching a point of exhaustion. “your grace.” you greet as you enter his study, the place he would keep to himself and even eat on most nights.
he barely glances up from his paperwork, “do you need something?”
shaking your head, you pull the shawl you have over your shoulders to cover the skin that your nightdress didn’t. the pink color of the fabric was what you had described as your favorite when the duke had asked. it’s the color of nearly every dress you have been provided with since moving into clyvedon. “no, i simply came to inform you that i am having the maids move my things into the duchess’s chambers.”
his interest is piqued, and he finally looks at you. “why ever would you have them do that?”
“is reason needed to move into my own chambers?”
your response garners a look from your husband, “separate rooms shall not be suffered.”
his words cause you to scoff, “yet a silent marriage will be?”
he is silent for a moment before he speaks, “jones.” the butler standing by the door straightens up, “inform the maids that they will under no circumstances move the duchess’ belongings from our chambers.”
“sir.” the man nods, exiting the room and leaving you with your husband.
“will you continue to go about your days acting as if i do not exist?” you question goes unanswered as sunghoon resumes his paperwork. “fine, i will move them myself.”
“you will do no such thing.”
“oh, i believe i will.” you retort and sunghoon stands, hands placed on the desk as his jaw shifts.
“i forbid you.”
the audacity baffles you, frustration turning into fury within the second, “you forbid me?”
sunghoon walks out from behind his desk, stopping beside it, “you are my wife. your hatred i can tolerate but i will not allow the agony of separate rooms.”
“am i your wife?” you ask, watching his hands twitch at his sides and his eyes darken, “we had a wedding, yes, but if we did not spend that night together are we truly married?”
“you speak nonsense.” he dismisses, eyes no longer on you as he turns away, “go to bed.”
“do not speak to me like i am a child—“
“i said-“ he starts, voice raising as he turns back toward you with a darkness in his gaze, “go. to. bed.”
his eyes pierce your own as his voice is low and nearly breathless, you lower your chin just the slightest as your heart aches, “i am not a child, nor am i a fool. i know you do not love me but i did not think you cruel enough for trickery.”
“trickery?” he asks, seemingly clueless as the what you mean.
you begin, “the day we met in that garden i thought you different, kind. you led me to believe such lies, you knew i could not say no to you, you trapped me in a loveless marriage that you knew i did not desire—“
“loveless? if that is what you believe this marriage to be, it is not i who is the cause,” he argues, and you narrow your eyes.
“am i to believe that you love me? have your actions up to this very moment warranted such beliefs?” your question causes your husband’s jaw to shift.
“go to bed.” he looks down at his desk again.
“do not tell me what to do.”
“what do you want from me?” he whips around to look at you. “i have given you riches, i have given you every gown you could possibly desire, i have had the finest soaps imported from india and yet you continue to oppose me. what. do. you. want?”
“i want a husband. not a stranger that i share a bed with, not a keeper.” you state, “i know you do not love me, but if I am to be duchess and produce an heir i deserve better than an absent duke.”
sunghoon remains silent for a moment before his hands clench into fists and his cold eyes meet your own. “call me a stranger, loathe my existence for the rest of your life but never think for even a moment that i do not love you.”
you are stunned into silence, and he continues, stepping closer and closer until your breaths mingle as he says, “i have spent the past fortnights in agony. suffering through the nights i cannot touch you. speaking to you is not enough, nor is being in your company. i have never in my life felt as though i cannot inhale what another does not exhale and yet i find myself suffocating with every moment i am not by your side.”
his fingers ghost over your cheekbone and you find your breath caught in your throat. “i have loved you ever since i saw you in that garden. do not dare question that.”
your lips part and his eyes follow them. your chest rises as you inhale sharply and deeply, attempting to process the words leaving his lips as well as their close proximity to your own. “you…love me.”
your tone is not one of question, and his pleasure in that fact is shown through both his actions and the three words you had yearned to leave his lips since he’d proposed. the same lips that capture yours in a hungry and insatiable kiss that has you in shambles.
your knees buckle, legs turning to jelly, and like he had expected it his arms wrap around you and pulls you closer. his tongue meets yours the moment your lips part and as he brings you to sit on his desk, the pressure of his body between your legs sends a jolt of pleasure you have never experienced before up your body, prompting a choked whimper to escape between the mess of lips and tongue.
“your grace.” you exhale against him, quickly silenced by his lips once again as he breathes you in like you’re the last atom of oxygen on earth.
“your grace.” he responds in kind, hand trailing up your thigh under your nightdress. then, there’s contact and a loud keen that like the rest of them, he swallows with ease.

A Mother’s Love
Omega Benny who was part of the MKUltra experiment in college. They took his baby, said he died, but Benny knows in his heart that he would have felt that. He moved to Hawkins after he found out Brenner worked there, hoping to be near his pup.
But with his build he’ll never make it past security.
So he waits, gathers information, and when Terry Ives comes to him with her plan, he asks her to look for his boy.
She’s so focused on finding Jane, Terry doesn’t even have a chance to notice that none of the pups there could be Benny’s boy.
Because he’s already been smuggled out.
The Harringtons aren’t the kind of family to go to a diner, so the first time Benny sees Steve the boy is in middle school, out with his friends. 13-years-old, still unpresented, and his scent makes Benny’s heart ache.
He’s found his pup.
🫂🫂🫂
Steve was a sensitive child. His mother always said so, that he couldn’t stand to see anyone in pain.
He’s grown out of it, or learned to control it now, hides it by fitting in with the popular kids, does his best to get Tommy not to be a dick.
But maybe that’s why.
Why he feels compelled to open the door back to the kitchen while he’s waiting to pay, and finds Mr. Hammond crying.
“Is something wrong?” he asks softly, letting the door close behind him.
“Oh, no…” Mr. Hammond says, wiping at his eyes. “Not wrong. Very right. I got some good news just now.”
“Oh,” Steve says, nodding. “That’s good. Still, are you gonna be alright?”
“Yeah, that’s very kind of you…?”
“Steve. Harrington.”
His face twitches at Steve’s name, but settles into a smile. “Thank you, Steve. Your mother must be proud of you.”
“I dunno about that.” Steve blushes. His mother worked hard to make sure he could get along alright, but she would be upset with him for being nosy. For being noticeable.
“Well, I’ll be out in a minute. Meet you at the register.” He slaps his thighs and gets to his feet, and Steve slips from the backroom.
🫂🫂🫂
Benny doesn’t push. Not that first time. After what happened to Terry, he knows to be careful. But now he knows it. Remembers Marsha Harrington from the lab, one of the kinder nurses.
She must have gotten Steve out, but clearly not very far. Brenner might still know where he is.
But his boy is free.
And closer than he thought.
He calls Wayne Munson, asks to come over that night. Benny needs to make a plan.
🫂🫂🫂
Benny brings burgers and fries over to Wayne’s after he closes up at 10. Wayne’s out smoking on his tiny porch, and immediately pulls him into an apple-cinnamon hug.
He lets himself cry again, being held by his closest friend. Wayne lets him cry, holds off on asking questions.
Once Benny’s cried himself out, they go inside, Wayne grabs a couple beers, and they sit at the kitchen table. “So,” Wayne starts, “Tell me what happened.”
Benny does.
“And you’re sure it’s him?”
“Yeah. It ain’t just that it feels right. It’s Marsha Harrington.”
Benny takes a deep breath. Wayne already knows the basics of what happened, about the weird experiments and the drugs, about the isolation and giving birth too doped up to know up from down. About Terry and Claire, Danny and Paula, the other omegas in the program. His friends.
But he doesn’t know as much about the doctors and nurses that surrounded them. The scientists.
Benny’s talked about Brenner, but not this. He blows out his held breath.
“I always hoped I’d get Marsha’s rotation for blood draws. Could barely feel the needle go in when she did it. She was gentle.”
He tells more, neglecting his food, how Marsha held him after Brenner said the pup didn’t make it. “Too small, such bullshit, I could feel him inside me; my family has big babies.” Wayne smiles at that, looking up. “But Marsha was kind, said to hold him in my heart. That a mother knows…”
And he did. He does. He knows his boy, and now he’s seen him, Benny feels a mix of joy-pain-terror over it all. “Maybe she still works there, or maybe she started to lose faith then. Somehow, she got him out of there.”
“She must know you live in Hawkins now.”
“Probably.”
“Do you think she’d talk to you?”
“I dunno.”
“So, what do you want to do?” Wayne takes a swig of his beer, his food mostly eaten, while Benny’s is practically untouched.
“I wanna hold him.” Benny rubs at the tears in his eyes. “But I don’t want to scare him. He’s half-grown as it is.”
Wayne gets up, goes to put his arms around Benny, puts a wrist by his nose to calm him. “Want me to ask Eddie about him? They’re close enough in age he must know some things.”
“I… Yeah, please. God, Eddie probably hates him.” Even keeping his distance, Benny knows the Harringtons are rich as sin.
“Far as I can tell, the only thing Eddie bothers hating is the hospital. And sometimes his daddy, when he ain’t idolizing him.” Wayne steps back, wraps up Benny’s untouched burger, and puts it in the fridge. “A lot happened today. You should rest; hopefully it will all be clearer in the morning.”
Benny nods, happy to follow Wayne to his nest, to be held like he’s precious as he falls asleep.

Eddie’s cutting math class, hanging at the Hawkins High smoking patio, when one of the Hawkins Middle side doors opens. He recognizes Harrington from his hair, even fluffier than normal because he keeps running his hands through it and rubbing at his neck.
His polo is darkened with patches of sweat.
Eddie drops his half-smoked cigarette, grinding it out with his heel. He runs over to the younger boy—still a pup, but it looks like that won’t be true much longer—hands held up to show he may be an alpha but he’s not a threat. “Hey, you okay there?”
“No,” Harrington whines, tugs at his shirt. “Think m’dying.”
Taking a quick sniff, Eddie picks out the honey-sweetness of omega, and grins. “Not dying, presenting. Want me to take you to the nurse? Have her call home?”
Harrington shakes his head. “Dad’s out of town, and my mom has some lunch thing… Nobody’s home.”
At least he’s with it enough to know that.
“I could still take you to the nurse, she’ll have… stuff to help—”
“No! Please, don’t take me back in there.” Harrington looks about to cry, only to double over in pain, like he’s been punched in the stomach.
Eddie reaches out on instinct, squeezes his shoulder. “It’s gonna be okay,” he soothes.
It’s like saying it makes it true, triggers the perfect thing to do in his brain. Harrington is still pretty short, just clearing five feet tall. “Do you think you could balance on my handlebars? So I can get you somewhere better than this? Somewhere comfortable.”
Harrington nods, and Eddie smiles.
He guides him to the bike rack, pulls out his own bike and holds it steady as Harrington gets situated. Biking with the extra weight is hard, but it doesn’t take long for Eddie to get them to the omega he trusts most in the world: his Uncle Wayne.
“What the hell, Ed?” Wayne asks from the doorway.
“No one at home,” Eddie pants, still catching his breath. “You wouldn’t wanna have your first heat at school either. Told Harrington I’d take him somewhere safe.”
“Harrington?” Wayne looks startled. Eddie starts to worry.
“You can call me Steve,” Harrington says with a pout as he gets off the bike.
Wayne nods. “Steve, come on in. We’ll get you comfortable, but you’re gonna want something from your mom’s nest, the scent will help.”
“Mom doesn’t have a nest, she’s a beta.”
“Oh. Then we’ll get you set up in mine. D’you wanna shower? Deal with the… mess?” Eddie knows Wayne is being delicate.
That he doesn’t want to say that Harrington’s underwear is full of the aftermath of his pussy opening up. It might not be yet, Eddie’s not sure. They don’t go too in-depth on the timeline in health class.
The grimace on Harrington’s face, the quick nod, says it’s already happened.
Wayne gets a hand on Harrington’s back, helps him inside as he stares at Eddie. “Head back to school. Stop in the middle school office to let them know Steve went home.”
Eddie digs his toe into the ground. “Okay…”
“And stop skipping Algebra! You wanna graduate, don’t ya?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
Eddie watches as Wayne’s attention turns fully to Steve, feels a spike of jealousy, then pushes it away as he turns to bike back to school.
🫂🫂🫂
Steve feels better after the shower, and Munson’s uncle left him baggy sweatpants and a t-shirt. His skin still feels too hot. Itchy. He pulls on the sweats and tightens the drawstring, but leaves the shirt as he wanders from the tiny bathroom.
“Hey, kiddo, let’s get you settled.”
“Thank you, Mr. Munson.”
“Wayne is fine. Ya thirsty?”
Steve nods, suddenly aware of how dry his tongue is.
“Yep, your body is gonna run through fluids pretty hard for the next day or so. C’mon, pup.” Wayne places a hand between Steve’s shoulder blades and guides hin to a cozy nest of blankets.
There are shirts and pillowcases tucked into the sides. The whole room smells warm, like cinnamon rolls with sticky glaze. The homemade kind, spicier and sweeter than the ones from the tube that his mom makes on the weekends. Or… Used to make. They don’t do family meals much anymore.
Wayne helps Steve into the nest, makes a shushing sound when Steve whines at being left alone. “Just getting you that water, pup.”
Steve nods again, wriggles down in the nest, and breathes deep. He feels better almost instantly, his nose pressed against a plain, white undershirt. Right there, the scent of apples cuts through the cinnamon, and Steve relaxes, melts against the blankets. He feels safe here, protected. Like he’s being held.
He wants to be held. Wants his mother.
Steve wishes he was little again, that he could be wrapped in a blanket and held in her lap.
His mother hadn’t held him like that since he started school. Since he stopped going to the daycare with the colorful playroom.
His mother is not a cuddler.
Steve wants to be cuddled. Desperately.
Wayne comes back with his water, and Steve sits up. His skin drags on the blankets, sweaty. Wet.
He drains the glass and Wayne sets it aside. He sits in the nest with Steve, pets his hair. “How are ya feelin’, kid?”
“Okay. Better. It’s nice here.”
“Good. That’s good. Do ya know when your mother should be home? So I can give her a call. Let her know where you are.”
“Four. I think?”
“Okay. Until then you rest.” Wayne pushes back Steve’s hair from his forehead.
Nodding, Steve nuzzles back against the apple-y shirt again, and starts to purr.

Mr. Darcy
logan howlett x fem!reader - halloween costumes, logan dresses up as Mr. Darcy, pride and prejudice fans rise up, fluff, cute, no use of y/n, no reader description.
It's Halloween and you make Logan dress up as Mr. Darcy.
a/n: It's October which basically means Happy Halloween. Here's a cute little Halloween one. God knows I love brooding men—and Mr.Darcy was the first one I can remember loving so why not combine logan and mr.darcy together.
read on Ao3
“You look—”
“Ridiculous,” Logan grunted before you could even finish. He stood there in the doorway, wearing the Regency-era costume you had begged him to wear for the Halloween party tonight—complete with the cravat, waistcoat, and fitted jacket that made him look every bit the brooding Mr. Darcy. His expression was a mixture of annoyance and resignation like he couldn’t believe he’d actually let you talk him into this.
If you were being honest, he didn’t look ridiculous. Not even close.
You bit back a smile as you took him in, the way the tailored jacket hugged his broad shoulders and how the crisp, white shirt contrasted with the usual ruggedness of his face. Somehow, Logan still managed to look like Logan —even when dressed up as Jane Austen’s most famous romantic hero.
“I was going to say handsome ,” you corrected, stepping closer to him with a teasing grin. “But if you prefer ridiculous…”
Logan huffed, adjusting the cravat at his throat like it was strangling him. “I don’t know how the hell you talked me into this,” he muttered, glancing at himself in the mirror, a deep scowl settling over his features. “I look like a damn fool.”
“You look perfect ,” you insisted, smoothing down the lapels of his jacket before placing your hands on his chest. “Like a brooding, 19th-century aristocrat. Which, let’s be honest, isn’t that far off from how you act sometimes.”
Logan narrowed his eyes at you, his gruff exterior barely masking the hint of amusement in his expression. “Very funny.”
You just grinned, standing on your tiptoes to press a soft kiss to his cheek. “Come on, Darcy. The party won’t be the same without you.”
Logan sighed, shaking his head but letting you lead him out of the room, your hand slipping into his as you made your way to the common area where the rest of the X-Men were already gathering for the Halloween party. The mansion was filled with the sounds of music, laughter, and general chaos that came with any event involving the team.
As you and Logan entered the room, it didn’t take long for people to notice.
Scott was the first to pipe up, nearly spitting out his drink when he saw Logan. “Holy crap, Logan, is that really you? I’ve never seen you look so… normal. ”
Jean chuckled beside him, nudging him with her elbow. “More like out of a BBC period drama. You’re practically unrecognizable.”
Logan’s scowl deepened as he shot Scott a glare. “You got somethin’ to say, Summers?”
“Oh, I think we all do,” Scott quipped, grinning as the rest of the team gathered around, taking in the rare sight of Logan dressed in something other than his usual leather jacket and flannel. “Seriously, who are you and what did you do with Wolverine?”
Even Storm, who was usually the voice of reason, couldn’t hide her amusement as she crossed her arms, giving Logan a once-over. “I didn’t think it was possible for you to look… refined.”
Logan grunted, clearly uncomfortable with the attention, but you couldn’t help but find the whole thing endearing. “Alright, alright, laugh it up,” he muttered, crossing his arms over his chest, which only made the fitted jacket strain against his broad frame. “Just remember—I’m still me underneath all this.”
That earned a round of laughs from the group, but you could see Logan trying his best to ignore the teasing. He was doing this for you, after all, and no amount of ribbing from the team was going to change that.
“I think you look amazing ,” you whispered, leaning into his side and giving him a reassuring smile. “You’re the best Mr. Darcy I’ve ever seen.”
Logan rolled his eyes, but there was a softness in his gaze when he looked down at you. “Yeah, well, I still don’t get why you’d want me dressed up as some stuck-up Brit,” he muttered, though his tone lacked its usual bite.
“Because you are Mr. Darcy,” you replied with a grin. “Gruff, brooding, a little rough around the edges—but with a heart of gold.”
Logan huffed a laugh, shaking his head. “I don’t know about the ‘heart of gold’ part.” You chuckled as he shook his head, clearly done with the entire situation. “You’re all gonna pay for this,” he muttered, his gruff tone tempered with the faintest hint of amusement as he pulled you closer to his side.
The party carried on, with the team eventually moving on to other conversations and teasing each other about their own costumes, but you couldn’t help but notice that Logan seemed quieter than usual. Not uncomfortable, exactly, but maybe a little... out of place.
Later that night, after most of the others had wandered off to different parts of the mansion, you and Logan found a quiet corner away from the noise, the dim lighting casting soft shadows across his face. He leaned against the wall, one hand resting casually in his pocket, the other holding a drink, still looking slightly out of his element in the period costume.
“You know,” you said, sidling up to him with a teasing smile, “for someone who’s not a fan of costumes, you’ve pulled off Mr. Darcy pretty well.”
Logan raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a smirk. “Yeah? Glad one of us thinks so.”
You laughed softly, brushing your fingers over the lapel of his jacket. “You could’ve fooled me. You look like you stepped right out of Pride and Prejudice. All that’s missing is the declaration of undying love.”
Logan shot you a sideways glance, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then, to your surprise, he set his drink down and straightened up, clearing his throat awkwardly. “Undying love, huh?”
You raised an eyebrow, suddenly curious about where this was going. “Yep. The whole ‘I admire and love you’ speech. It’s basically iconic.”
Logan’s eyes narrowed slightly, and for a moment, you thought he was about to make a sarcastic comment. But then, he took a step closer, his gaze locking onto yours with that intense, unreadable expression that always made your heart skip a beat.
“You must allow me,” Logan began, his voice low and gravelly, but there was something softer beneath the gruffness, something just for you, “to tell you how ardently I admire... and love you.”
Your breath caught in your throat as he said the words, his rough voice making the familiar line sound raw, real, Logan. It wasn’t perfect—it wasn’t polished or smooth like the Mr. Darcy of the novels—but that didn’t matter. It was him.
You stared at him, wide-eyed, a smile tugging at your lips. “Logan, did you just quote Mr. Darcy?”
He grunted, shifting his weight a little awkwardly. “I don’t know if I got it right. It’s what you wanted, though, wasn’t it?”
Your heart swelled, and without thinking, you closed the distance between you, cupping his face in your hands and kissing him, slow and soft, like it was the only way to say everything you felt.
When you finally pulled back, Logan’s eyes had softened, a quiet smile playing on his lips. “I’d do just about anything for you, even if it means wearing this ridiculous get-up.”
You smiled, resting your forehead against his. “Well, Mr. Darcy, I think you just made my night.”
Logan chuckled, pulling you into his arms, his lips brushing lightly against your temple. “Good. 'Cause I’m not wearin’ this again.”

Y/N
The morning sunlight feels too bright as it spills across my room, illuminating everything in a way that feels almost accusatory. My head feels strange, like it’s stuffed with fog, and my throat is dry, scratchy. For a moment, I just sit there, trying to piece together what feels like fragments of a half-remembered dream.
Then, like the tide rushing in, it all comes back.
The lake. The joint. Jinx.
I let out a breath and rub my temples. I’ve never felt like this before—untethered, like my mind isn’t quite my own. I think of the way the smoke had burned going down, the way my chest had tightened, and the strange, floating clarity that had followed.
And then there was her.
Her laugh, sharp and biting, but somehow not cruel. The way her knee had bounced, restless, and her voice had softened, just for a moment. The way she had looked at me when I said I was sorry—like she didn’t quite believe it, but also like she wanted to.
I drag myself out of bed and stand in front of my mirror. My reflection stares back at me, hair messy, dark circles under my eyes. I don’t look like the version of myself I’m used to seeing: polished, composed, prepared.
I think of what I said to her.
“I’m sorry for abandoning you.”
It feels heavier now, in the harsh light of day. Not because I regret it—I don’t—but because it feels like the start of something I don’t know how to finish. She’d told me I’d drown if I tried to save her. And maybe she’s right. Maybe I would have.
But I didn’t even try.
The thought twists in my chest.
Last night feels like some strange, otherworldly moment, the kind that doesn’t belong in the real world. And yet, I can’t shake the memory of it: the lake, the stars, the soft ripple of water, and the way, for just a heartbeat, it felt like we were connected again.
The thought lingers as I go about my morning routine, though routine feels like the wrong word. Everything feels slightly off-kilter, like I’m moving through a world that isn’t quite real. I brush my teeth, but the minty taste feels muted. I splash cold water on my face, but it doesn’t chase away the warmth still clinging to me from last night.
Her words echo in my mind, over and over.
"You’re here now, aren’t you?"
It wasn’t forgiveness, not entirely. But it wasn’t rejection, either. It was something in between, a place I’m not sure how to navigate.
As I stare at the mirror, toothbrush abandoned in the sink, the weight of her words settles deeper into my chest. "You're here now, aren't you?" They linger, stubborn and unyielding, like a riddle I can't solve.
The person staring back at me looks like me but doesn’t feel like me. My hair’s still a mess, my skin pale in the unforgiving light of the bathroom. The faint redness from the weed still lingers in my eyes.
I trace my finger along the edge of the sink, the smooth porcelain grounding me in a way my thoughts can’t. It’s strange—how last night feels both impossibly distant and uncomfortably close, like I could reach out and still touch the ripple of the lake’s surface.
And her.
Her outfit from last night comes to me in sharp flashes, each piece a quiet reminder of her refusal to be anything other than herself. A cropped black top, with her bright blue bra peeking out, so unbothered by convention, leaving her arms bare to show off the wispy blue of her tattoos. The short, plaid skirt swung with every step, the bold pinks and purples clashing in a way that almost made me frown, but it somehow fit her perfectly. Like she was daring you to see her, truly see her, and not look away.
The torn fishnet stockings ran up her legs, disappearing beneath worn, slouchy leg warmers, and those boots, scuffed and heavy, told a story of a thousand steps taken in places I would've never dared to follow until last night. They weren’t made for dancing, but for standing firm, for walking through chaos. Her tiny, ridiculous purse, a cartoon animal with an angry face, hanging low on her hip truly a bizarre touch, but it made sense on her. She didn’t need it to make sense, and that’s what made it hers.
Those long, impossibly messy braids—swinging behind her like streaks of wild blue, tied off with bows that looked like they’d been thrown together in a rush. And her makeup… dark, smudged lipstick and eyeliner like she’d put it on in a haze of laughter and frustration. It was a little all over the place, but she looked beautiful.
I catch myself mid-thought, the word beautiful lingering too long in my mind. I clench my jaw and press my lips together, willing it away. No. That’s not what this is about.
I'm not attracted to her, I'm simply observant. There's just something compelling about her, she gathers attention, I'd be a fool not to notice.
And I'm not a fool.

Jinx
I’m sprawled out on Silco’s desk, knocking papers everywhere.
He’s too busy with whatever shady crap he’s dealing with, so he doesn’t even flinch. He’s used to this shit by now.
Not that I care. I’m busy with my own thing anyway.
“So like—Y/N, right? Last night? You remember her, right?” I swing my legs up, now dangling upside down off the desk.
“Or, you probably don’t, you’re busy and all that... but whatever.” I wave it off with a lazy shrug, but I can’t stop grinning.
"But she, like... totally caved.”
I catch his good eye for a split second before he looks back at his paperwork.
Like he’s trying to ignore me, but he knows he can’t, he's actually the biggest softie
“She totally, totally, smoked that joint with me,” I announce, watching him carefully.
Silco stops.
There’s a pause.
Like he’s trying to process my words. His eyes narrow as he stares at me.
“Jinx, I give you those drugs for your business entrepreneurs, not for yourself. You know you’re not supposed to be smoking,” he practically reprimands me.
“Uh-huh, uh-huh, sure,” I interrupt, waving my hand like I’m shooing off a fly.
“Let me stop you right there, Dad. It wasn’t technically a joint. It was a—uh—lollipop.” I smirk, daring him to call me out. “Yeah, a lollipop. Cherry-flavored. Totally innocent.”
He pinches the bridge of his nose, muttering something about patience. “Jinx.”
“What?” I sit upright, hands spread wide. “I’m being honest! Honest Jinx, that’s me.”
His sigh is so long and drawn out I think he’s going to pass out.
But nope.
He’s still there, looking at me like he’s trying to figure out why he puts up with this.
“Anyway!” I barrel on, kicking my legs against the desk.
“She took it. Like, I held it out, and she just... grabbed it. Like, no hesitation. Well, okay, a little hesitation. But then bam! She’s holding it. And then she freaking smoked it—well, tried to. Looked like she was about to fucking puke Hilarious.”
“Language,” Silco mutters, shuffling his papers like he’s pretending to work.
He’s not fooling anyone.
“Right, right. My bad. She looked like she was about to violently combust,” I say, snickering.
“And then, guess what? She laughed. Laughed, Silco. Like, this cute little giggle thing. It was... weird. But, like, in a good way? Made her seem, I dunno, human.”
I flip onto my stomach now, chin resting in my hands.
“And then, for, like, a split second, I thought she was gonna kiss me. Like, what the hell, right? Y/N? Kissing me? Insane. But it was there. The vibe. The moment.”
Dad- Silco looks up from his paperwork. “And did she?”
I throw my hands up, nearly knocking over a paperweight.
“No!"
I scoff.
Silco leans back in his chair, giving me that annoying, knowing look. “You have feelings for the girl.”
I scoff, loud and dramatic. “Like her? Please. She’s just... interesting, that’s all.”
“Mmhmm.” His smirk grows, and I know I’m losing this battle.
“Okay, fine, maybe I like her. A little. But don’t get all weird about it, okay? She’s... complicated. And I don’t do complicated.”
“Jinx,” he says, his voice soft but steady. “You are complicated.”
I blink at him, thrown off for a second.
Then I roll my eyes, flopping back onto the desk like a starfish.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Just don’t tell her I said any of this, okay?”
His chuckle is quiet, almost fond. “Your secret’s safe with me.”

Y/N
After the oddity of the party last night, I found myself sitting at a booth in Piltover’s diner, the kind of place that pretended to be casual but was just polished enough to remind you it wasn’t cheap. Across from me, Caitlyn was sipping tea, her posture as straight and proper as always, while Mel flipped lazily through a menu.
I was quiet. Too quiet, probably, because Mel eventually glanced over and raised an eyebrow. “What’s with you? You look like you’ve been exiled from your own kingdom.”
“I’m fine,” I said quickly, forcing a small smile. I stirred the remnants of sugar into my coffee, avoiding eye contact. My thoughts kept drifting back to the lake, to Jinx, and to… everything about last night that I couldn’t quite make sense of. But I wasn’t about to bring it up. Caitlyn’s feelings about Jinx were less of a mystery—they weren’t feelings; they were pure, unfiltered disdain.
I sipped my coffee, letting the warmth ground me as the memory of last night tried to creep back in: Jinx’s laugh—sharp and unpredictable—the way her eyes sparkled with something I couldn’t quite name. Her voice, teasing and cutting but... not unkind.
I shoved the thought aside.
“So,” Caitlyn began, setting her teacup down with a small clink, “I kissed Vi.”
My head snapped up at the same time Mel practically shrieked. “You what?”
“It wasn’t that dramatic,” Caitlyn said, though the faint pink in her cheeks betrayed her attempt at nonchalance.
“Okay, hold on.” Mel leaned forward, practically vibrating with excitement. “I need every detail. Where? How? Was it good? No, wait—start from the beginning.”
Cait sighed, but the smile on her face told me she wasn’t bothered by Mel’s theatrics. “After you two left, we were standing by my car. She made some comment about how I should loosen up more often, and before I could reply, she kissed me.”
“Shut up,” Mel said, grinning ear to ear. “That’s amazing. Was it good? Don’t lie.”
“It was... unexpected,” Caitlyn admitted, the corners of her mouth twitching upward. “But yes, it was good. Very good.”
I tried to focus on my coffee, letting their conversation fill the space between us. Cait deserved this. She deserved something uncomplicated, something sweet and warm and full of possibility.
Unlike whatever was clawing at the edges of my mind—something messy and confusing and entirely unwelcome.
“Are you two a thing now?” Mel asked, leaning in like a gossip columnist.
“I don’t know,” Cait said, her tone thoughtful. “Vi doesn’t seem like the type to want to label things. And, honestly, I’m fine with that. For now.”
Mel looked impressed. “Wow. Look at you, Miss Go-With-The-Flow. Who are you, and what have you done with Caitlyn Kiramman?”
Cait rolled her eyes, but her smile didn’t falter.
As their laughter filled the space between us, I tried to hold onto it, to let it distract me. But my thoughts were already wandering, back to the lake and the way Jinx had looked at me when I’d apologized.
There was something unsettling about the memory, not because of what she’d said, but because of how it had made me feel. Like I was standing on the edge of something I didn’t understand.
As they resumed their chatter, I let their voices fade into the background, my mind returning—despite my best efforts—to Jinx. To the way she’d leaned back on her elbows, her grin sharp and teasing. To the strange softness in her eyes, fleeting but undeniable. To the way my stomach had flipped, unbidden and entirely unwelcome, when her hand had brushed mine as she passed me the joint.
I stared into my coffee, its surface rippling slightly as I shifted in my seat. This was nothing, I told myself. Just residual adrenaline from an unexpected night. That’s all.
But the quiet flutter in my chest told a different story.

Apple of My Eye Chapter Thirteen
Harry Hook x Child of Snow White! Reader
Chapter Thirteen: Audrey Knows Best
Summary: After such a happy moment like an engagement, everyone expects things to head towards "happily ever after." Audrey decides she won't accept that.
“The crown and scepter are missing?” said (Y/N), eyes wide. Barely a few hours had passed since Hades’s near-escape and the arrival of the New VKs, and already, things were going wrong.
Mal nodded grimly. “No one has any idea where they are.”
Somewhere, someone in Auradon had a royal crown—the Queen’s—and Maleficent’s scepter, one of the most powerful magical items in the world. What that person was planning on doing with them was a mystery, and a dangerous one at that.
“Does anyone else know that they’re missing?” said Evie.
“No one,” said Mal. “Just us, the royal family, and Fairy Godmother.”
“They don’t want to worry people,” said (Y/N), pursing their lips.
Mal nodded. “People are scared enough as it is. We have to employ these entirely new security measures.”
“Will this delay our bringing over more VKs?” asked Evie.
“We’re talking about closing the barrier for good,” said Mal grimly.
“What?” (Y/N)’s straightened in shock. “No.”
“The four of us are living the dream here, and we finally get to share that,” agreed Evie. “We can’t close it now. I mean, what could be more important than that?”
“Yeah. I know,” said Mal. “I mean, maybe security or peace of mind for everyone in Auradon.”
“Is that what they’re thinking?” said Evie.
“It would just be punishing all those kids again for the actions of a few people,” said (Y/N), shaking their head in disappointment.
“And closing it forever? What about seeing our parents? We just started rebuilding our relationships with them,” said Evie. “And what about these kids? We promised them that they could go back and visit whenever they wanted.”
            “Yeah, I know,” said Mal.
“M…” Evie took Mal’s hand. “I am so glad that you’re going to be Queen. You will be a part of these conversations, you will stand up for the VKs. Thank you for telling us.”
“You’re going to be a great Queen,” said (Y/N), smiling.
l
“Morning, everyone,” said (Y/N) as they entered Evie’s little castle. The VKs had moved in there, and (Y/N) had an old cottage their parents used in the past nearby, all in walking distance of Auradon Prep.
It was Jane’s birthday, and they were heading off in a few minutes with all the VKs—new and old—to the Enchanted Lake where the “pool” (lake) party was taking place. Today, they had on blue jeans, a red camisole over a white shirt, and a yellow cardigan. In their arms they held a picnic basket with their swim trunks, towel, and snacks inside.
“Morning,” said Evie, smiling as she and the boys finished packing. “Catch these.” She tossed apples to Jay and Carlos. “Want one?”
“Still not big on apples,” teased (Y/N).
“Oh, but I’m not a stranger,” teased Evie right back before laughing and packing the apple for herself.
“I really think she’s going to like the cake, guys,” said Carlos excitedly. He had worked hard planning Jane’s birthday. He groaned. “Oh, no. Okay, who got to Jane’s cake?!”
“Probably one of the younger kids,” said Evie.
“Remember how much we got into sweets when we got here?” said Jay.
Carlos sighed. “I do.” He’d forgive the younger kids. He still had a gift for Jane, anyways.
“You’ll pay the price of what you did, and so will all of Auradon!”
The VKs and (Y/N) stiffened at the angry voice. Instantly, they ran to the doors of the castle and flung them open. Celia, hearing the same shout, followed. They came up short as they found an old lady cowering from Audrey.
She had on a pink leather outfit that was frayed with black feathers and a cloak. A crown glittered on her head, and Maleficent’s scepter was held tightly in her hand. She grinned at them, all wildness and anger.
She was the one who had stolen the artifacts and was now on a rampage, such a far cry from the princess act she always had (even if condescending).
“So long, suckers,” said Audrey. She spun, and pink smoke appeared around her. She disappeared.
“I can’t believe this is how she snapped,” murmured (Y/N). “I expected an alternative phase, but not an evil one.” They frowned. They wished Audrey had proper friends and less of her grandma’s pressure when it came to her life. That couldn’t have been good for her, and now she was taking out her frustrations on everyone else.
Jay grimaced as he looked at Mal (Old? Mal). “Whoa. You should, uh, think of a spell for that.”
“Yeah, you look like you’re going to try to give me an apple,” said (Y/N), making a face.
“There’s no spell that can reverse the curse of the scepter,” said Mal.
“Are we sure True Love’s Kiss can’t handle it?” said (Y/N), frowning.
“Forget about me,” said Mal, groaning as she tried to shake her head. “Audrey’s out for revenge. And all of Auradon is in danger.”
“What should we do?” said Evie.
“The only thing more powerful than the scepter is Hades’s ember,” said Mal.
“Like he’s just gonna hand it over if we go back to the Isle,” said Jay.
“And no one knows where his lair is,” said Evie.
“I do,” said Celia. “He and my dad get along. Dealmakers, you know? I’ve done errands for him. The key is at my dad’s.”
            “You are coming,” said Mal.
“But I just got here,” said Celia, sighing.
“Mal?” said Dizzy, stepping into the doorway with Squeaky and Squirmy. They screamed when they saw Mal’s old face.
“Dizzy,” said Evie, taking charge. “Stay here to take care of the twins. We’ll be right back, and everything will be just fine. Go inside.”
“Let’s get out stuff and get out of here before Audrey causes more harm,” said (Y/N).
“How bad is it?” said Mal as the boys ran to get their clothes.
            “You age beautifully,” said Evie.
“I’d trust you enough to eat an apple you gave me,” said (Y/N) cheerfully.
“Let’s get into something fabulous, though, to…add to the look,” said Evie.
Mal nodded approvingly, and (Y/N) smiled.
l
The four VKs drove their motorbikes towards a cliff that pointed directly at the Isle. They all had Isle outfits on once more. Celia sat on the back of Mal’s bike, and (Y/N) held onto Evie. They were wearing an Isle-themed outfit again.
This time, it was a white top with a royal blue corset and halter overtop. Gold details covered the corset. Black and red pants hung around their waist, and they wore yellow combat boots to finish the look. (Y/N) had looked at the outfit, looked at the pirate-y details, and looked at Evie with an unimpressed expression.
Evie had smiled brightly and stuffed them into the outfit anyways, and now they were about to wear it onto the Isle itself.
At least I do look good, thought (Y/N).
“Noble steed, proud and fair, you shall take us anywhere,” said Mal, eyes glowing.
The bikes sped forward into the air. They splashed onto the water, and with green sparks, they drove over it to the Isle.
The group drove quickly into an alley and got off their bikes. Mal’s young self was back, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hey, I’m me again,” she said, grinning.
“Duh. Evil magic doesn’t work here,” said Celia, shrugging. “Kind of the point.”
            “Welcome back,” said Evie.
            “Thank you,” said Mal.
Celia led the way towards her dad’s place, taking them to a metal door. She knocked on it with a complex rhythm. Inside, someone replied with another pattern. She gave a third. The door slid open. Grinning, Celia gestured for them to enter.
Walking down some stairs, they found a Voodoo Arcade ran by Dr. Facilier. He brightened as soon as he saw Celia.
            “Hey!” he said.
            “Daddy!” She hugged him tightly.
“There she is,” he chuckled. They did a little dance together and laughed. “Come here you little rascal.” Together, they walked off to another area of arcade.
The VKs and (Y/N) walked around, looking at the games of the arcade. Carlos picked up a token and slotted it into a TV. It switched on, and he looked at the screen.
“Alerts of the sleeping spell keep coming in as it spreads throughout Auradon,” said the reporter.
“Uh, guys. Come look at this,” said Carlos, eyes widening.
(Y/N), Jay, Evie, and Mal gathered around him and the television set.
“There are rumors that Princess Aurora’s daughter, Audrey, is behind the sleeping spell,” said the reporter. “We’re trying to discover who is responsible for these vicious lies and which villain has perpetrated this evil.”
They can’t even admit that a “hero” kid is doing something evil, thought (Y/N) incredulously. If Auradon ignored the truth, it was doomed.
“We have an update. It’s what?” The reporter paled. “It’s moving this way? It’s moving this way.”
Pink smoke drifted across the screen. The reported crashed to the ground, asleep, and the camera cracked against the ground as the cameraman fell asleep.
“We have to get back to Auradon as soon as possible,” said (Y/N), eyes wide.
“I’ve got the key,” said Celia.
            “Let’s go,” said Mal firmly.
They walked out of the arcade and headed for their bikes. Pirates sat on the back of them, and Jay and Carlos narrowed their eyes.
            “Wow! Rookie mistake?” groaned Carlos.
“Long time nay see,” teased Harry, grinning wildly.
(Y/N)’s heart beat a bit quicker as they saw him.
“Get off my bike, Hook,” snapped Jay as the VKs broke into a run.
“Catch me if you can, Jay,” said Harry. He revved the engine and spun around the group. He parked behind them and grinned. His eyes settled on (Y/N). “'Ello, Highness. Want an exciting ride?”
            “Excuse me?” said (Y/N).
“If you insist,” said Harry. He extended one arm, looped it around (Y/N)’s waist, and took off.
(Y/N) let out an indignant and surprised yelp as they were pulled onto the bike. Harry winked at them, then grinned impishly at the VKs, and pressed down on the accelerator.
As the bike roared to life and sped down the alley, (Y/N) grabbed onto Harry for dear life.

warnings: fem!reader, established relationship, just fluff
It had always been special between you two, somehow, to Luke you were just oh so special. You were every day since you’d first come to camp, in mid-fall a couple years back. But it wasn’t because you were already claimed by Aphrodite, or because your piercing eyes had bore into his first with no intention to back out when you met. You were just…special, in a way he couldn’t exactly pin-point yet could somehow elaborate.
You were special in the confidence you wore like one of your necklaces, at all time around you, exuding it effortlessly like a second skin wherever you were, and intimidating aura he wasn’t used to. He was drawn to it in a way he found twisted, wanting to make your resolve waver and to seep in through the cracks to see behind, but being near you always had him buzzing like from the smell of a heady perfume, your presence alone the thing he wanted forever near and yet the sole thing he was so intimidated by.
You were special in the way you always appeared to stay true to yourself, even in the most out of place situations. He’d always remember the day you arrived at camp, black heels —that, and you corrected multiple times since, were called mary-janes— and knee high socks, tight halter top and short ruffle skirt, coming down Half-Blood hill with a pink bag thrown over your shoulder: you seemed so out of place. So you chose to make the place fit you instead, taking one step after the other confidently, winking at people you didn’t know who eyed you while you walked down on the slippery grass, not even tripping once, and Luke had never been so shocked and amazed, not that he remembered.
And you were special in the way you always kept him on his toes, never knowing what could come next, but knowledge he could surrender when it made the blood buzz in his veins any time you looked at him. He should’ve been used to it by now, except he never wanted to get used to it, he wanted to feel the rush, feel the sparks, and you were the one to make it possible.
As you cleared your throat behind him, making him turn around and take you in, he was reminded of that once again, his mind running a hundred miles an hour just to process how you both could’ve ever landed in this situation. The sun was kissing the horizon behind you and he couldn’t care less about its magnificent hues when you stood before his eyes, twisting a strand of your hair around your finger with a smirk adorning your face.
“I barely saw you all day.”
Gods, even just the tone of your voice did things to him he’d never admit.
Luke took a few steps forward, slowly closing the distance between you two as you didn’t even move a single finger, knowing he’d come to you.
“And I’ve been mourning it every second…”
“I’m making a poet of you, aren’t I ?”
The boy’s lips stretched in small grin, trying to contain the dumb smile tugging at them, because you didn’t need your ego stroked even further by seeing him react to the littlest of flirting. “What can I say, I guess I just needed the right muse.”
You giggled right in his ear as his hands found your waist, slightly tickling the bare skin of your sides before finding purchase on the small of your back. Luke’s smile broadened as your own fingers tickled his nape mindlessly, arms slung over his shoulders, his face coming close to yours, his forehead touching yours with little effort as you stood tall in your heels.
“Be careful, Castellan, or I might start to think you’re quite fond of me, in the end,” you teased, tilting your head to the side in that charming way that had his heartbeat unknowingly increase.
“Believe me, dearie, I’m way past that stage,” he started, looking longingly in your eyes. “Better yet so, I’m putty under your gaze, how is that ?”
Your eyes closed as you chuckled, slowly opening back up to catch his gaze searching yours already. “It’s a good start. But, next thing you know…” You brushed a single finger against the side of his face, tracing along the scar you loved to decorate with lipstick marks, your touch lingering on a skin he felt to be heating up by the seconds. His breath almost caught in his throat as the pad of your finger gently traced along the underside of his jaw, tilting his head up. You closed the small gap between you two, leaving a chaste kiss on his pulse-point and a pink lip shape behind, your voice a whisper in his ear. “You’ll be on your knees, begging to carry my bags and kissing the floor I walk on.”
The poor boy could feel the blood rushing throughout his body, set ablaze, while you just stood there knowing perfectly well whatever emotions were stirring up inside him, and choosing to just absentmindedly play with the short curls on his neck. Luke gulped down hard, finally lowering his face to rest it on your shoulder in defeat. “You’re one of a kind, aren’t you ? Having the best of times while you endlessly tug at my heart…”
“Your heart ? Oh I would never, that I would only cherish. But your mind…” He could practically hear the smirk in your voice as you spoke. “Call me cliché, but I want it wrapped around my pinky finger.”
Luke looked up, only to be met by the flashing, content smile that made your face glow when it reached your eyes, and he almost wanted to get lost deep inside them for an instant, before getting his wits almost fully back —his body straightened every time your fingers as little as grazed his nape.
“You’re cliché, dearie, that’s in your dna,” he simply stated, as relaxed as he could be when his heart was hammering in his chest like it was. And he knew it was silly, really, to be this affected when it had been this long since the first time. Yet, it still always felt like the first time when it came to you, he was always unprepared and accepting anything you’d give him. “But promise to never leave me, and I promise I’ll be wrapped around your finger until you’ve wrung me dry.”
You hid your laugh behind an ever-growing smile, slightly biting the side of your lip before bringing your hand between the both of you, a balled fist with the pinky sticking out. “Promise ?”
“Promise.”
And just as your finger interlaced the boy leaned down, catching your lips with his in a kiss full of a passion he wouldn’t ever attempt to hide, blooming inside his chest like a rose in the spring.
And just as you were about to separate, he couldn’t resist leaning forward a little more, your back arching as he held you tight against his front, his lips whispering on yours. “I guess you’re stuck with me now.”

Hi! Hope you are doing well !🫶🏻
I was wondering of you maybe could write a poly! Volturi fic? I really like your work 🫶🏻
Winter War Poly Volturi X Reader Pt 1
Word Count: 800
Time it took: I can't even tell you I don't even remember ngl I just finish it today.
To anon: Hello my love, I am doing well I hope you are as well and if not I hope you will be when You read this. I am so glad you enjoy my writing! So Here you go. I hope you enjoy <3
“No you can’t go.”
“I’m the queen! literally, why wouldn't I go?” You yelled. You had been fighting with your loves for about 30 minutes now. There was this ‘war’ coming so said Cauis. A girl named Bella and some vampire Edward had ended up long story short making a baby. It's not human and now it’s our problem. They had made a ruckus before in the castle but you had only caught the end tail of it, And by it I mean the fight. The only thing that could be heard besides Bellas scream and Edwards threats were your “Damnnn!” and “Shit you getting your ass beat!” And that was that.
But now you're hearing about them again and they have been the only names who have been running through the dry cobble walls of the castle. And you're sick of it to say the least. Bella this, Bella that, Edward this, Edward that, The Baby, I’m sorry the monster. That’s all you’ve been hearing, It’s like you're in high school all over again. You graduated so why does it feel like this?
So when you heard about them preparing for a fight you were the first one who was up and ready to go. Finally end this long drug out gossip and let you go back to your everyday life of being a queen. But to your surprise you were immediately told no. You’ve barely ever been told no since you met your loves. So you’ve gotten used to always hearing yes so at that moment when you didn’t, you didn't know what to do with yourself besides look at your loves like they lost their minds because excuse you?
What do you mean no? Maybe becoming the queen had something to do with this new found spoiledness you had. But it’s not your fault that they promised you the world with everything you wanted inbetween.
You thought as queen you had the right to be at these meetings or wars. And you were told that you do. So excuse me for having only one thought run through your head.
Why can’t I go? Why can’t I go? Why can’t I go? That’s all that has been ringing in your head.
“It’s not safe!” Alec yelled back at you. Making you immediately roll your eyes.
“You act like it’s ever been safe for me!” You yelled back. Why would he say that like it’s an excuse or something new?
“You can get hurt.” Jane said also not agreeing with you going.
“I can get hurt everyday! I could get hurt now, I’m human!” You yelled, taking a breath to add to your statement but you were cut off
“Exactly human! You're human! How could you possibly help us during this time like we need your help or anything?!” Cauis yelled.
“Morale support! We all need it!” You yelled back.
“That doesn’t help us if someones trying to take our head off.” Felix stated.
“I don’t know, it might help me.” Dem said shrugging.
“Oh my.” Marcus groaned, shaking his head with his eyes closed.
Long story short the world can only give you what you take from it. As you walk through the thick cold fluffy snow you can't help but feel proud of yourself. Your childish thoughts are filled with I got what I want. You can't tell me. You knew like hell this was extremely dangerous and you could end up more than dead to no return. But the fact that you've been crowned queen and you've never stepped out to come with your loves to settle a.. disagreement with other vampires upset you. How can I be worthy of being queen when I never get my hands dirty? Not even once. That's why you fought so hard to come here today with your loves. You also couldn't help but think fucking hell it's cold as shit out here. Your toes grew numb with every step. Which prompted you to turn and ask the closest one of your loves.
“So Are your toes constantly numb?” You asked Caius. Who immediately sighed deeply.
“You beg to come here and yet you ask such a stupid question.” He replied, speeding up his walking knowing damn well you won't be able to catch up to him.
“Hey It's not a stupid question! I'm genuinely concerned about the blood flow in your toes! It's important!” You yelled at the back of his head which he shook.
“Okay you can pick me back up, I don't want to walk anymore!” You said to no one in particular.
“About time.” Jane picked u up and all you could hear was the loud whistles of wind in your ear.
Let's go see what all the drama is about shall we?

Failed Investigations - Harumasa x gn! Reader
Summary -> 1.9k Words. You are an undercover officer for Public Security who encounters an unlucky situation named "Asaba Harumasa" in your investigations Warnings -> None A/N -> Sorry it took a couple days! Life got in the way. I got a little whimsical on this one I won't lie. I wanted something fun since classes start soon.
Tumblr media
Today was finally the day you could get out of this hellhole and get back to your comfy PubSec desk for a little bit. This undercover mission in this gang of hollow raiders seemed to go wrong at every single step of the way and you were just trying to hold on at this point. Jane owes you so many favors after you took this mission for her. Deep cover was more her style than yours.
You leaned back against the uncomfortable concrete wall, watching a group full of idiots gamble what little money they had earned from the recent break-ins away on a card game. Standing up and stretching, you take note of the time and know your salvation will be here in less than an hour. Less than an hour and you’d be back on your team, shoulder to shoulder with officers and no longer doing undercover work.
Down the halls you heard screaming, the sound of the door breaking down, and the sound of weapons clashing. Now PubSec was a mess and a lot of things could change and be different, but them being early was not a possibility in the slightest. You had a choice here. You could either hope and pray to whatever higher power was out there that it was just your coworkers, or book it and have to explain to Zhu Yuan that your investigation was ruined.
“They’re in the rafters!” The shout from one of the hollow raiders made your decision for you. You were already on the move when you caught the glimpse of an arrow flying and embedding into a canister of ether, exploding to create a cover of ether dust that burned the lungs and eyes. You dash to an exit that wasn’t as well known, only to catch a flash of someone charging right towards you.
You caught the brunt of two blades propelled by the body weight of a man you had dreamed of meeting on your two hunting knives, deflecting them away. You didn’t have time to stagger before he was delivering practiced blows and you could barely keep up. If you were brought into the custody of the HSO, PubSec wouldn’t be alerted for far too long, and you had a bigger fish to catch than what Section 6 was currently flushing out of the abandoned warehouse.
“Let me go, it’ll be worth it!” You tried to plead as you were on the defence, deflecting blow after blow, thankful H.A.N.D and PubSec training was close enough for you to defend against him.
“Likely story.” Harumasa scoffs, starting to put more electricity into his attacks. Two more blows and you had a plan, remembering what happened to the canister filled with ether.
Oh Zhu Yuan was going to kill you for the paperwork you were about to generate.
“Sorry!” You warn before meeting his electrified blades with yours swirled with ether, the reaction causing a cloud of ether dust to explode and fill the air. Harumasa was caught off guard, erupting into a fit of coughs as he stumbled back away from the cloud of ether, giving you more than enough time to dash out the exit, the rest of Section 6 too distracted with the other hollow raiders to notice you slinking away.
**********
“I’m sorry Officer (l/n),” your team lead lied to your face. “Your investigation was incomplete so you won’t get the bonus on your next paycheck. We’re also putting you on a different case since we believe you were made by the other hollow raiders.” “You have got to be kidding me.”
**********
Messing up one assignment wasn’t the end of the world. In your line of work it was honestly expected. Maybe having a case ruined by *the* Asaba Harumasa was more of a blessing than a curse. That was the closest you’ve ever gotten to having a conversation with him.
You looked in the mirror, happy with your new haircut and dye job. You had gotten too good at this, hot swapping appearance between every case. You grabbed the SFX makeup kit and decided that this identity would at least have a cool looking scar on an eyebrow. Pleased with the unrecognizable state of your face you packed everything away and went to your next assignment.
This was an easy one. You were to take part in some sort of drug ring to try to trace the source so PubSec could have one last public win for this quarter. This sort of cut and dry undercover sting was definitely more your style. You stepped out of your car to go stand by the statue near the Ballet Twins Hollow, waiting for the dealer as you watched the shifting hues of the hollow. Part of you felt like something was wrong. You looked over your shoulder and-
Oh for fucks sake.
“For what they are, it’s a damn shame they’re so pretty.” Harumasa said as he leaned against the railing. Seems even the ears of a trained PubSec officer were no match for the silent steps of a Scout.
You stared hard at the hollow, trying not to let your nerves show. Surely you were unrecognizable enough for him to not clock you the second you opened your mouth. “Maybe the bright colors are like the patterns poisonous animals have. Warning about the danger, ya know?” Harumasa looked over and let out a little noise, looking at your face a little too long to be comfortable. “I suppose so. It’s not safe out here this late for civilians.” Your brain kicked into third gear, trying to come up with a believable excuse that wasn’t ‘yeah I’m here to meet a drug dealer and you’re really messing up my investigation right now’. You went to pat your pocket and… oh you didn’t even have your badge on you right now. “Just out here for the view. I like keeping track of how much the hollow is shrinking. You can see more and more of that tower every week.” You tried to sound like a hopeful civilian. “Makes me think that everything is gonna be okay… That all of this is worth it.” Harumasa glanced back at you, a flash of recognition when you said ‘worth it’. Crap. You said those exact words to him back in the hollow, didn’t you? There was no way your accent was that recognizable.
“Yeah.. It’ll be worth it.” Harumasa said and looked around. “There’s the person I need to meet up with.” He said as an ungraceful exit and just left, walking up to the drug dealer you were supposed to be investigating.
Another investigation ruined by Asaba Harumasa.
**********
“Officer, you’ve really been off of your game recently. Do you need to be assigned fewer cases?” Your team lead looked at you like you were stupid.
“No. Just give me something that can’t possibly be linked to H.A.N.D.”
**********
You brushed the wig into place, settling into your next cover story. This was a simple case another undercover operative had set up for you. In and out, cut and dry, not a chance that you’d see that smug smile and golden eyes. You put down the brush and let out a laugh to yourself. You had met a man you admired and looked up to twice. There had been many events where PubSec and Section 6 were in the same spot and you tried to build up the courage to go introduce yourself to the team, but you never did. You never thought you’d end up having two investigations in a row ruined by the man who made you so nervous.
You dressed yourself in the dark clothing, making sure your lockpicks were in the case as you slipped them into your pocket. PubSec was going after a corrupt rich guy who was mining in a hollow or something (you weren’t really paying attention to why you were doing this), and you needed to break into an apartment and steal a flash drive so the man could destroy it. There was enough anonymous contact that PubSec couldn’t move in until you handed the drive and could get him on a possession of stolen property charge. Whoever this man was, he was important enough for the commissioner to actually sign off on you robbing someone.
It took a few hours for you to see your way in. You had changed to wear a maintenance uniform so no one would question you in the hallway. You were sure the apartment was empty, no one was looking… perfect timing. You easily picked the lock, slipping in and looking around at the rather messy apartment. You stepped into the bedroom and started to dig through piles of prescriptions and pill bottles that piled on the desk. You saw a flash of shiny metal before successfully picking up the flash drive. You started to shift the papers and bottles back to where you found them when a label caught your eye.
Harumasa, Asaba
“...are you fucking kidding me…” You mutter and let out a breath, only to hear the lock on the front door start to click. You were going to kill your team lead. Someone should have told you who’s apartment this was! Who did this get past!?
You ducked through the living room right as the door was opening and slid out onto the balcony, holding your breath as you heard the footsteps. You pressed harder against the wall as you heard the balcony door slide open.
“...three times is just unfortunate.” Harumasa looked at you smirking. “You’re telling me.” You tried to laugh.
“Should I arrest you?” “Probably not.” Harumasa laughed at that. “Why are you on my balcony?” “That’s classified.” You both looked at each other and down to the drive. Harumasa suddenly changed demeanor. “Who’s side are you on?” “PubSec. You’ve ruined three investigations of mine now, by the way.”
“I’ll make it up to you.” He promises, still with that smirk on his face. The silence between you two was palpable, the air heavy and thick with the same feeling you’d get whenever you tried to gather the courage to talk to him. You cleared your throat three times in the same nervous pattern you had built up by habit and Harumasa’s eyes lit up with the sudden recognition. “That’s why you look so familiar, it’s you!” His tone made you panic, but not in the way you were panicking just moments before. “What do you mean?” “You’re the PubSec officer who always awkwardly loiters around HSO booths during conferences!” In all of your years of being an undercover officer, you had never known shame and humiliation like this. “Oh my god I’m not here.” “It’s you! You’re the officer who once answered ‘newspaper’ to Yanagi asking if you felt alright!” “STOP!” You walk into his apartment to try to leave.
“I watched you fall off a chair taking down a banner six months ago during the VR event!” “NO!” You shriek in humiliation and get out of that apartment as soon as possible, slamming the door as you hear laughter coming from inside. You got maybe three steps down the hallway when the door swung back open.
“I saw a rookie officer miss so badly they tased you by accident!” He shouts to you as you practically sprint away from him.

[14] SOMETHING REAL
warnings: none
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jennie didn’t sleep. it wasn’t a matter of if she could, it was a matter of her not wanting to. she couldn’t remember the last time her daughter slept in her embrace, and she didn’t want to waste this rare opportunity. as she watched jane’s peaceful face, she felt a pang of regret.
she wished she could turn back time, to be a better mother from the start. it was hard to think that at ivory’s age, jennie was already a mother. the idol knew she did the best she could with her circumstance, but it still pained her to know her role as a mother should’ve been more of a priority.
the house was silent, save for the soft hum of the refrigerator and the occasional rustle of leaves outside. jennie’s mind wandered back to the early days of jane’s life, the nicu visits, and the overwhelming love that had filled her heart the first time she saw her tiny daughter fighting for her life.
“i’m sorry, valentine,” jennie whispered, her voice barely audible. “i know i haven’t been the best mother to you. i’ve made so many mistakes.” jane, who was still resting her head on her mother’s shoulder, stirred slightly but didn’t open her eyes. the older woman took a deep breath, feeling the need to unburden her heart.
“there are so many things i should have done differently,” jennie continued, her voice still soft and barely above a whisper. “i was young and scared, and i thought giving you up would be the best thing for you. but when i saw you in that incubator, fighting so hard, i knew i couldn’t let you go.”
she paused, gently stroking her daughter’s hair that was the same shade as her own. genetics were a funny thing. jane was physically a carbon copy of her mother. from the eyes and the face, all the way to her hair and hands.
but even jennie knew her daughter’s personality came from her father. it was a bittersweet reminder of the man who had chosen not to be part of their lives.
“i’ve tried to be there for you in my own way, and i know you deserve so much more than i’ve been able to give. but i want you to know that i love you more than anything in this world.” the idol added, trying her best not to cry. she wouldn’t know what she’d say if her daughter saw her like this.
nevertheless, her own eyes betrayed her and welled up with tears. “you’re my everything, jane. and i’m so proud of the person you’re becoming. i just hope that one day, you can forgive me for not being the mother you needed.”
her tears flowed freely now, a silent testament to her sorrow and guilt, but also for her love for jane. the love of a mother who, despite her flaws and mistakes, wanted nothing more than to make things right.
the blackpink member continued to stroke jane’s hair, her touch gentle and light as to not wake her sleeping daughter.  “i remember the first time i held you,” she murmured. “you were so tiny, so fragile. i was terrified. i didn’t know how i was going to take care of you, but i knew i had to try. i couldn’t let you go.”
she paused, taking a shaky breath. her emotions were all over the place, and even though ivory was fast asleep, she couldn't help but want to keep talking.  “every time i see you, i’m reminded of how lucky i am. you’ve grown into such an incredible young woman, and i’m so proud of you. i know i don’t say it enough, but i am.”
jennie’s voice wavered as she continued to reflect on her abilities as a mother. she had so many regrets, and she often wondered if that was just how being a parent is. you try your best, but still regret it all.  she hoped her daughter would understand how hard it was for her, too.
“i know i’ve made so many mistakes, and i can’t change the past. but i want to be there for you now, in every way i can. i want to support you, to be someone you can rely on.” she gently wiped away her tears, her resolve strengthening. “i promise you, valentine, i’m not going to give up on you. i never have, and i never will. so even if you resent me for your entire life, just know that i will still be in your corner.”
jennie leaned down, pressing a kiss to jane’s forehead. “i love you more than words can say,” she whispered. “and i’m going to prove it to you, somehow, someway.”
the idol leaned back and shifted a bit so her daughter could sleep in her lap, and eventually jennie dozed off, too. however, jane was far from fast asleep.
as her mother’s breathing evened out, signaling that she had fallen asleep, ivory allowed herself to relax slightly. she shifted gently, making sure not to wake her mother, and stared up at the ceiling while tears fell from her eyes.
As the tears continued to fall, Ivory reflected on the countless times she had felt neglected, the moments she had resented Jennie for not being there, and the times she had wished for a different mother. Hearing her mother's heartfelt confession shattered those beliefs and replaced them with a confusing mix of emotions.
she recalled the times she had wished for a different life, for a mother who was more present and involved. but now, she realized that perhaps her mother had always been trying, in her own way, to be there for her.
it wasn’t perfect, and it certainly wasn’t what jane had envisioned, but it was something real.
after what felt like forever, and with her mother’s words still echoing in her mind, jane drifted back into a more peaceful sleep, feeling a little less alone and a little more loved.

Kinktober day 1
Pre death Kyle Spencer - First time - Lingerie
Cw: smut obviously, p in v, v!grin and so on
An: Day one in kinktober, hope you guys enjoy:3
———————————————————————————
You and Kyle lived on campus, there were dorms and it was separated by gender. You wished you were the popular cheerleader who had all the boys drooling over them. Even though you were a “nobody” who just worked on art and sculpting, you were just as boy-crazy as the rest of them. You had the biggest crush on Kyle. He was the nicest out of the bunch of frats, the most charming, handsome, and just heart-flutteringly gentle. You hate to admit it but you’ve touched yourself to the thought of him. The way he flashes his charming smile makes your heart melt. “Y/n!” Your friend called. “You’re going to the party yeah?!” She jumped up and down flapping her hands mindlessly. you shrugged and looked over at the boys in the hall flirting and passing invitations. “Kyle is gonna be thereeee.” She teased nudging your shoulder. You instantly became flustered and turned a slight hue of red. “I-I don’t know yet..” You said hugging your elbows. “Oh come on, Y/n! It’s gonna be so much fun! We can totally dress up too!” You shrug in defeat. “Okay okay fine, I’ll go.” She squealed and ran out of the room in excitement.
You and your friend decided to go as a witch and a cat, which of course she took the role of the witch, so now you were stuck as the black cat. It wasn’t a bad thing it’s that you felt so.. Naked. You couldn’t help but get excited but crazy fucking nervous about seeing Kyle and what he might think of your “costume”. Your top sort of resembled the head of a cat and had white sheer sleeves and ruffles under the black material that held your perky breasts. A slight frill of the sheer fabric as a “skirt” and some thin stockings, that you wore pumped Mary Janes with. Your friend walked in and gasped. “Holy fuck, Y/n.. If I was Kyle, I’d fuck you right here and now.” You blushed and shook your head. “Okay, come on. I want to get this over with.” You said grabbing your small coffin-shaped purse.
Once you arrived at the party, all eyes were on you. You knew the outfit was very revealing, but you weren’t prepared for the beady, nasty eyes from the wrong crowd, Especially since you only thought about Kyle. You walked into the kitchen, pouring yourself some alcohol-spiked punch as you watched your friend dancing with the other frats and grinding up against them. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes and let out a small huff of laughter. “Hey!” You turned your head to the voice. It was Kyle. You froze and shed an awkward smile. You saw his beautiful dark eyes roam over your beautiful body. He looked back up at your eyes and noticed you were flustered. “Y/n, how are you enjoying the party?” Your uncomfortable smile became a genuine smile. “You remember my name?” He let out a playful scoff of misbelief. “Uhm..Yeah? I always notice you watching me.” He flashed a smirk. Your heart sped and you covered your flustered face with your hands. “Hey, hey I’m just teasing ya.” Kyle said with a gentle chuckle, softly prying your hands away from your face. He looked at your eyes then your lips, looking back up and placing a small bunch of your soft hair behind your ear. “O. M. G. Kyle!” Some blonde bimbo ran up to him, grabbing his arm and pulling him away. “My favorite song is on!” She grabbed him, pulling him out of the kitchen to the main room. You let out a sigh.
“Hey, sweet mama.” One of the frat boys came to the kitchen and stood in front of you. He grabbed your bare waist and pressed his body against his. You let out a yelp and were trying to squirm away from his strong grasp. “Whoah there. Where are you going?” His breath reeked of alcohol and skunk weed. “Let me go!” You screamed as you tried pushing him away. In a flash, you saw a beer bottle smashed against that boy’s head. You flinched and yelped, covering your head in fear you were next. “Y/n!” There stood Kyle, he grabbed you, taking his letterman jacket off and placing it over your shoulders. “K-kyle.. I’m sorry.” You said on the brink of tears. “For what? Basically being sexually assaulted?! Absolutely not.” He grabbed his keys and looked at you. “You want me to take you home? You looked uncomfortable this whole time.” He spoke gently. “N-no it’s fine.” You said hugging your elbows and holding onto his jacket tightly. Kyle crouched down to your height and held onto your hips. “How about we head back to mine and we can watch some sort of Halloween movie and pig out on some cheap candy.” You felt butterflies when he placed his hands on your hips and your core tingle. You grew a wide smile and nodded. “If that’s okay with you.” You spoke softly.
You went back to Kyle’s dorm and put your purse by the door. “Make yourself comfortable,” Kyle said while grabbing some grey sweats and a loose-fitting shirt. You nodded as you sat on his bed, waiting as he changed. He stepped out of the bathroom in sweats and no shirt. You could see his soft-toned abs and his prominent V-line. You unintentionally bit your lip as he walked your way. He stood in front of you with his lower waist at your eye level. He pulled your bottom lip apart from your teeth and lifted your chin to look you in the eyes. “Eyes up here, Beauty.” Your breath hitched as you swallowed the lump in your throat. He let out a cute chuckle and plopped on the bed, opening his arms for you to crawl into. “Come,” Kyle said giving grabby hands. You giggled and crawled to him, being unintentionally seductive. You laid on top of his warm body, your barely clothed cunt against his thigh and your head on his chest. He grabbed you and as you guys watched Hocus Pocus, his hands roamed up and down from your upper back to your lower back rubbing near your ass. “Y/n, are you comfortable?” He spoke lowly. You nodded, clinging to his chest.
You could feel his member harden against your hip. You couldn’t handle the tension any longer, you grabbed the nape of his neck, pulling yourself up further, and placed soft kisses on his neck. He let out a soft gasp and clung onto your ass and waist as you left little nips and bites on his neck. You felt him roll his hips up against your thigh. “Y/n. Are you okay with this?” He said slightly out of breath. You lifted your head, pressing your weight on the palms of your hands that laid upon his heavy chest. “Y-yeah.. Are you okay with it? I-I don’t want to get ahead of myself, especially if you aren’t inter-“ Kyle interrupted you with his lips against yours. He sat up, cradling your body to his, as you sat straddled on his thigh. The kiss was messy but yet, so sensual. Almost like he hasn’t had much experience. You pulled away for a moment to catch the breath he stole from you. You watched as he searched your flustered face, with a faint smile upon his pink, dimpled cheeks. “Your lips are sweet like candy.” He smiled looking at your lips. You let out a playful whine and looked away. “Kyleeee, shush!” He promptly flipped you over, hovering over your fragile, yet beautiful curved body. You let out a small whine, naturally resorting to hugging your elbows. Kyle’s expression slightly sunk. “Hey, Y/n. We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.” He sat up on his knees, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. You gently pouted and shook your head. “Kyle.. I’ve uhm.. I’ve never had sex before.” You said feeling ashamed. Kyle tilted his head and smiled. “That’s okay, Pumpkin.” He pinched your cheek gently. “If you’d like, we can postpone thi-..”
You interrupted his proposal by wrapping your legs around his waist, grabbing the back of his neck, pulling him towards you, and slamming each other’s lips together. You felt his hard-on press against your soaked core. He grabbed the bottom of your two-piece and lifted his head to meet your eyes. “May I?” You nodded frantically as he basically tore your flimsy bottom piece off your body. Kyle crouched on the floor beside the foot side of the bed. He gently spread open your thighs, looking for your approval, you nodded and shyly spread your silky thighs apart. Kyle’s eyes widened and bit his lower lip in hunger. You felt your face heat up like a million suns. “Does it look okay?” You said biting the inside of your cheek. “Okay? Baby, it’s drop-dead gorgeous. Just like you.” He pressed his tongue flat upon your sopping cunt, licking a strip up to your sweet bundle of nerves. You let out a loud gasp and grabbed the back of his head, grasping a fist full of his soft dirty blond locks. He flicked his tongue against your tender clit and suckled on it gently. You naturally felt your hips grind against his soft mouth, eager for more.
He pulled away from your aching cunt. “Let me warm you up, yeah?” You bit your lip and nodded. He collected your slick and slid one finger in, curling it up. After a few pumps of his finger, he slid in another, stretching you out comfortably before he helps himself to you. You clawed the sheets and let out small moans. “Mmmh, Kyle.” You said, enjoying his thick fingers sliding in and out of your tight cunt. “Yeah Love?” You felt your heart melt with all of the pet names he’s given you. “I-I need you so bad, Kyle.” Saying that made Kyle’s cock twitch in neediness. “Are you sure you’re ready?” Kyle stood up and gently pulled you to the edge of the bed. “Please. Fuck me, Kyle.” You whined. He did not hesitate and pulled his sweatpants off, Kicking them in whatever direction. He leaned over to grab a condom and wrapped himself up. As he began to roll the rubber onto his shaft, he placed his thumb on your clit and started rubbing it in a circular motion.
He leaned forward and lined himself up against your entrance. “Are you positive you’re comfortable enough for this?” He had his hands placed against your knees. “Yes, Kyle. I’ve waited so long for this, especially with you,” He smiled and looked red in the face. “Would it be weird if I said the same?” You shook your head no but right before you could respond, you felt his tip press into your entrance. You let out a whimper in slight discomfort but the burning stretch felt so good. Kyle placed his hands on the sides of your body, still pushing himself into you. As soon as he bottomed out he placed a soft kiss on your forehead. “Doing ok, Pumpkin?” You nodded as you held onto his neck. “Kinda burns. But it feels so good.” He chuckled lowly and started slowly thrusting in and out of you. You let out some unintentional, nasty pornographic moans. “Fuck, Kyle.. God you’re so thick.” Your soft praises made him drive for more, beginning to slam into your tight pussy. “Fuck, You’re so fucking tight. Mmmhh.” He exclaimed while pounding into your cunt. You had your head tossed back, tears sliding down the sides of your eyes, and your mouth agape. He lowered his hand, rubbing your clit in a swift circular motion. “K-kyle.. Fuck.. I’m going to finish.” You panted in between moans. “Do it for me, Beautiful.” You felt your lower belly turn that huge knot into a gushing river. You clawed his neck and shoulder blades like an actual cat. I guess you really stayed in character. The pulsing tight walls of your cunt made Kyle succumb to his orgasm, shooting his thick loads into the condom. His thrusts became sloppy and unorganized, as he eventually pulled out.
You were splayed out, almost angelic on his bed. Your arms were tossed above your head, boobs almost hanging out your top, and how your gentle curves lay.
“Fuck.. You’re so beautiful.” Kyle said with a big geeky smile. As he cleaned himself up he grabbed a new pair of sweats and his slightly used hoodie that was neatly folded. “How are you feeling?” He sat beside you, placing his hand over your damp forehead. You let out a small giggle. “I feel amazing.. Thank you, Ky.” Kyle flashed a smile and kissed your forehead. “I have some spare clothes, so you won’t have to sleep in a two-piece rag you call a costume.” He said teasingly. You gasped and smacked his arm. “Oh shut it, Fuck boy.”

Color Spectrum Duo: Weed
Inspired by an exchange with @howlsofbloodhounds
Cw: marijuana usage
There was a first time for everything. In Killer's case, it appeared marijuana was a myth to him until today. Frankly speaking, resorting to weed for a bonding experience was one of the last things on Color's list, but Killer was curious, and who was Color to deny him?
Well. He did deny him more than one blunt, cause he wasn't about to foster an addiction even though Killer had many arguably worse things to his name. Sue him for being a responsible friend, he supposed.
They had gone to a cabin in the outskirts of the wilderness, somewhere on the Earth of one of Outertale's pacifist timelines. Not that Killer had to know that; Color specifically picked a spot that covered up as many stars as possible come night, even if that was a result of many many years of light pollution.
Color reclined in his chair, shifting his line of sight from the sunset to the other skeleton smoking with him on the porch. It was difficult to tell how far gone Killer was in his haze, the absence of eyelights made that apparent, but the lack of DETERMINATION leaking out of his sockets was a good sign.
All things considered, he was... somewhat relaxed. Even as he leaned over the porch's railing, Killer's grip on his knife had gone lax as he balanced the blade on his right index finger, focusing on nothing specific as the both of them sat in silence.
"You good, Kills?" Color asked, crossing one leg over the other.
Killer paused, practically spitting out smoke as he held the blunt away from his mouth with his left hand and twirled it between his middle and index fingers. He muttered something in garbled Arabic, then looked over his shoulder at Color when his flaming host didn't offer a response to that.
"What would it look like if I wasn't?" The murderer replied with an empty tone, words slurring at the ends. "Were you hoping these things poison me or something?"
"Naaah, Mary Jane isn't known to poison people." The demigod stretched, popping out the stiffness in his back. "At least not creatures like us. We don't have lungs or brains to rot over the expanse of time."
"...Mary Jane?" Killer squinted.
"It's uh... that would be another name for this stuff. Marijuana, weed, Mary Jane, dope, grass, pot, pakalolo, 420, ganja, they all refer to the same thing-- don't look at me like that."
"Like what?" Killer asked, tilting his head to the side as if he were analyzing one of his dusted specimens. "I'm just curious, Color. How do you know all this, as a law abiding citizen?"
Now was Color's turn to squint, sitting up to properly stare at Killer with a confused look.
"This isn't illegal knowledge, dude. Can be illegal to have weed in some areas, but not to know about it."
"Don't dodge the question." Killer said, taking another hit from his blunt. "I also asked how you know this."
"Why, cause you didn't?" Color chuckled under his breath. "Epic told me."
"Who?"
"The guy in the purple and black coat? Always keeps one eye closed, says 'bruh' a lot. That guy?"
"Huh. Thought he was the angry orange one."
"You're thinking about Delta. Wait, you don't remember Epic?"
"Should I?"
The flaming skeleton sighed through his nasal, blinking away the slight change in sight as his pupil narrowed to a sliver.
"I was hoping you would, but it's okay if not. He was barely present last you saw him."
Color took a hit, holding the smoke in his mouth for a second before shooting it out in a ring formation, noting how it stole Killer's attention.
"Anyways, I am curious about something. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, of course."
Killer let his knife lose balance, the handle falling back into a tactile grip.
"Ask away."
"Who are you talking about when you mention 'The Player'? I never caught onto the meaning."
Color's first guess was Killer was referring to an entity similar to Chara, Flowey, or Frisk, something with so much DETERMINATION they could dictate the passage of time and events of the reality they had both originated from. But Chara, Flowey, and Frisk were children at the end of the day. They weren't 'Players' in terms of being a god or an eldritch creature. They were just... unfortunate, and the inexperience of their youth was part of what led them from point a to point b.
After a moment of silence, Killer cleared his throat, spitting a glob of murky black DETERMINATION over the railing. He pulled up a porch chair and took a seat, putting out his blunt on the bottom of his shoe.
"Thought you would have caught onto what those are by now." "Killer, I'm autistic. I'm bound to be dense sometimes."
Killer barked an empty laugh, shaking his head. "You? Dense? Come on, Color, we both know you're gonna find my response very familiar. I mean you hang out with Ink often enough, dontcha?"
Color gave a slight frown. "...I wouldn't say often, but continue."
"Ink calls them Creators. But I call them what they are: Players. They're everywhere, always watching, playing with us like... puppets. The only reason either of us are alive, that either of us are even talking, is because they wanted us to be."
The dragon felt his ribcage rattle slightly, and he took a hit to make more smoke rings, just to calm his nerves. They were both high, he had to remind himself. Getting upset now would offer no guarantee of neither of them getting hurt.
Then again, hanging out with Nightmare's favorite toy was practically asking to get hurt. At least, that was Killer's reasoning.
Color disagreed. Killer could be so much more than what he thinks he is.
"So do you think I want to help you because one of them wants me to?"
"Yes. And you will die trying."
"I mean... if that's what it takes..."
Color blew out another round of rings when he felt a small, ashy weight land in his skull. He jolted in his seat, choking on the remaining smoke and his flames making erratic bursts until he finally managed to yank out the remainder of Killer's blunt.
Asshole.
"Killer, what the FUCK!?" The growling beast rounded on his angelic companion, but he wasn't at all phased, head turned to the smoke rings dissipating in the near distance.
"Do it again."
"...pardon?"
"Those rings. Make them again."
Color raised the only figurative brow he had and took a hit, releasing another round. Killer didn't hesitate to try grabbing one, but his fingers phased through the smoke without much bite. He tried with the second, then the third, ending with the same result, his lack of emoting being replaced with faint disappointment for only a flash. Color created another round, and at some point Killer had resorted to sitting on the railing to get better access to where they blew. He had gotten his knife stuck in the wood from when he tried to stab one, but that seemed more out of frustration than any scientific theory.
It didn't occur to Color it was getting dark until the only part of Killer he could clearly make out was the glow of his soul. But when he turned away to switch on the porch light, whatever thoughts he had in the moment were interrupted by a barely audible whine.
That... was new.
"Killer?"
His friend didn't answer, splitting a new hole in the railing to retrieve his knife, which he pocketed. Color closed the distance between them, stopping just out of range of Killer's personal bubble.
"Kills? Buddy, it was just smoke, I can make more-"
Killer grabbed Color's cheekbones, trapping his face between his hands. Color felt his clawed phalanges dig in to sustain a firm grip, then pull out. The dragon grunted, but withstood the minor discomfort if that meant Killer could ground himself.
His eye blinked back open when he felt said claws retract, continuing to let Killer hold his face like it was a confusing box of puzzle pieces.
"You're real." Killer said, the shape of his soul beginning to fluctuate, the ghost of an overturned heart amongst the mixture.
"Yeah, I'm real." Color affirmed, slowly reaching up to cup one of Killer's cheeks, brushing away a budding bit of DETERMINATION from the corner of his eye. "Were you wandering?"
"I don't know."
Killer let his hands fall, his soul stubbornly shaping itself back into a target. Color retracted his own hand, shoving it into a pocket.
"Wanna go inside? I made bechamel earlier."
"...okay."

Put this in the discord forever ago but I'm thinking about it again so trans fem Robin Jay in an au where she has other relationships besides the bats!
Thinking about Robin Jay who hasn't figured it out yet because he JUST got somewhere safe, for a given value of safe, and he's just starting to figure out who he is when he's not in survival mode
And Bruce doesn't really notice, Dick isn't around enough to notice. But the other people around them?
Kids are far more perceptive than people give them credit for, the boys at school seem to know instinctively that there is something that sets him apart from them. Something more than background or wealth. It's something deeper in the way that Jason sits and the way he talks and subtle hints in the way he dresses. Things they don't even know they're picking up on really. And Jason doesn't know what it is, what he's doing that's putting him so at odds with everyone else.
He sees Diana for the first time on TV when he's too young to really comprehend superheroes and villains and the world they live in. And he thinks "wow, I want to be like that." And he meets her in person hiding behind the mask of a boy whose name he stole, and he thinks this is what it feels like to have a crush. To admire the way her hair falls and lipstick just slightly smudged and the skirt swishes around her thighs when she fights. He doesn't know yet what gender envy is, and for the moment he feels like a normal teenage boy. He's not sure how he feels about it.
But Diana notices and she sees the difference between the men that ogle her, he longing for something deeper than intimacy, the very parts that make her up and the loss at not having them himself. She has seen many girls like Robin, so she helps in the way she helps all her sisters. By training with her, making her into a warrior because girlhood is like a sword, sharp and made to spill the blood of enemies, to protect those who can't protect themselves.
Dinah clocks the new Robin immediately. She was a girl like that once, a girl who didn't yet know what she could be, what she could do. She does what her mother did for her, when she was still young and scruffy and sneakily trying to wear her mother's heels.
Jason has never worn fishnets before. It's new and a little embarrassing because he knows this is not something that boys do...but he doesn't hate it.
He really, really doesn't hate it. And it's not even that big of an addition to the Robin suit but he likes that it sets him apart from Dick. A way to make Robin his own without feeling like he's failing. He likes working with Black Canary, he likes learning from her. He likes that she lets him match with her. He keeps the fishnets, and the jacket, and the earring. But he doesn't wear them in Gotham because Bruce wants Robin and what Jason wants means little in the face of the legacy he has inherited.
Alfred notices before Bruce. Everyone notices before Bruce. He notices that Jason prefers sweet, floral scents to more masculine ones. He notices that Jason's favorite pants are the ones that are so baggy they look like a skirt when his legs are together. He notices that Jason always seems to wriggle his way out of getting haircuts. He doesn't know for sure. He doesn't really know what to do about it. So he calls in help, because it's important for a soldier to know when they need to call the cavalry.
Selina remembers the first time she did a trick in front of Jason, the way his eyes were glued to her heels. Maybe she shows off more than she needs to, but she rarely gets such an appreciative audience.
Jason asks her to teach him. He doesn't know why he asked that. It's silly, and childish, and he didn't even think about it until the words were out of his mouth. But she agrees! And he doesn't know where she got the heels from but they fit. And they're barely anything, just Mary Jane's with platforms like some of the girls at school wear, but he can't stop looking at them. They make him just a little taller, maybe the same height as other boys his age. And when he walks they make a satisfying little clack clack clack that makes him impossibly giddy. He wonders what it would be like to dance in them, what Bruce would say if he saw them, how the boys at school would react. If their gazes would trail his legs and stick to his thighs the way they do with the girls.
For all his detective skills, Dick doesn't figure it out until he's told. Jason was just supposed to be spending the weekend with them but he's spent most of his time hiding in his room or following Donna. He thinks maybe it's a blooming crush but when he suggests it she just looks at him, that placid little eyebrow raise that means she knows something he doesn't. She asks him when he will bring his sister back.
Jason watches the way Donna does her makeup, the perfect swoop of her eyeliner and the glittery highlight that brings out the curve of her nose. He watches when Kori puts on her fashion shows, the delicate straps over her strong shoulders and the way her skirt fans out when she twirls. He admires Ravens hair, the purple so dark it looks black until it's in the sunlight, long and thick and all the way down to her waist. He supposes he's not as subtle as he thought because the first time he tells her his real name she asks if he's sure. Of course, he'd told her then, not sure what she could mean.
It sticks with him though, a needling in the back of his head. Is he sure? He thought he was. His name doesn't sound right anymore, it seems to rot in his mouth when he introduces himself to people. It was the name his parents gave him, it's the only name he's ever had. He has Robin, but Robin is not his. The next time he visits his mother, when she finally has a grave to rest, he asks her what else she would have named him. The stone does not answer, but looking at the letters engraved on it gives him enough of an idea.
It takes time to work up the courage, even to himself. He only manages under the cover of darkness, safely locked in his room after patrol. He faces the mirror even though he can't see himself, it's better that way. Cathy he whispers, his voice soft and quickly swallowed by silence. It's not...right. but it's better. He does it again and he thinks he likes the sound, likes how light his voice is. She starts looking up names.

Marcus wasn’t a jealous man, but he was filled with frustration at himself for seeing a future with someone who was so obviously in love with someone else.
Marcus was never going to be the one Lisbon chose.
And he should have known better.
Now, after six months of being in DC, Marcus’s colleagues finally convinced him to take the next couple of days off. Each day was getting better and better, but the pain still lingered.
He wakes that morning to the sound of a knock at his door. Marcus looks at the time; he’s usually awake and out of the door by six, but with today being his first day off, he had decided to sleep in a little bit. It’s only eight in the morning and Marcus wonders if he just stays in bed that maybe the person knocking on his door would just leave and after a few minutes, the knocking stops.
With a relieved sigh, Marcus sits up from bed and decides to get ready for the day. He isn’t yet sure what he has planned, but he does know that he wants to keep to himself, to minimize the amount of people he would need to talk to as much as possible. He stands from his bed and stretches his arms above his head, dressed in a white v-neck and plaid boxers.
“Coffee,” he mumbles to himself. “First thing’s first, need coffee.” Marcus runs a hand over his hair and walks out of his bedroom to the kitchen, beginning to make a pot of coffee for himself.
He looks around and lets out a sigh. He had imagined that his life in DC would be different, that he’d be with Lisbon, that she’d give more life into this home, but instead, he’s standing alone in a very bland and basic apartment. It has a nice view, but how nice could it be if you can’t share it with anyone else?
He walks to his patio and opens the sliding door. Marcus can hear the sounds of cars – honking and speeding – as it passes below him. He glances over to his right and Marcus can hear the chatter from his neighbor. He doesn’t remember someone living next to him, so he just assumes that it’s someone new moving in. Marcus just hopes that this new neighbor of his won’t keep him up at night.
His mind drifts to Lisbon and Marcus wonders what she’s doing. Her green eyes and smile had captured his attention from the moment he laid eyes on her. Marcus was sure that what he had with her was real, that it would be his second chance at love after his failed marriage, and for a while, Marcus believed that his life would be different when Lisbon agreed to move in with him to DC, then agreed to marry him.
Marcus never wanted to let her go.
His thoughts are interrupted when the coffee pot goes off and the knocking on his door begins again. Marcus figures that the person wouldn’t leave until he answers, so he walks towards his door and opens it. His eyes soften instantly at the sight of you and he’s now become so aware of what he’s wearing.
“Um–”
“Hi, I’m so sorry. I know it’s early and you’re probably getting ready for work, but I’m having trouble with moving my bed through the door and I just–” you take a deep breath, realizing that you must be rambling and that you’re asking a complete stranger to help you move.
“Let me start over,” you say. “Hi. Good morning. I’m your new next door neighbor,” you laugh nervously and then tell him your name.
The corner of Marcus’s lips lifts upwards and he nods, looking over your shoulder at the large bed that’s leaning against the wall. “Nice to meet you. I’m Marcus.” Then, he points to your bed. “You sure that’s gonna fit?”
“A bit too late for that, I think.” You blush. “I should have just hired movers, but I thought I could do this myself.”
“You’re in luck,” he chuckles. “It’s my day off and I have no plans whatsoever, so I’m happy to give you a hand. Let me just get dressed and I’ll be right out.”
Then, you look down at his frame and realize what he’s wearing. Your eyes slightly widen and the blush on your cheeks redden even further. “Oh right! I’m so sorry. I’ll just–” you clear your throat and point over your shoulder, turning on your heel and tripping over your feet. “See you in a bit.”
Marcus quietly chuckles to himself. He finds your clumsiness cute and he gives you one more glance before he shuts his door. He walks back into his bedroom and slips into a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie. Marcus walks back into his kitchen and grabs two mugs, pouring the coffee he made into each cup before he walks out of his apartment. When he looks up at you, he smiles when he sees you trying to make the bed fit into the door all by yourself.
Eager, he thinks to himself. And independent.
“Hey,” Marcus calls out softly. “Here, take a break.” He hands you a mug of coffee.
You look up at him and smile, taking the mug from his hand and leaning against the wall with a sigh. “You’re amazing, thank you.”
“So, it’s just you moving in?” Marcus asks, sipping his cup of coffee.
“Yeah. I got a new job teaching kindergarten at a nearby private school, so…” You take a careful sip of the coffee and look down at your feet.
“Well, welcome to the club. I just moved here about six months ago.”
“From where?”
“Texas, you?”
“California.” Then, you raise your mug and gently tap it with his, smiling up at him. “Cheers to us newbies here in DC.”
Marcus chuckles. “Cheers to that.”
You drink about half of the coffee before you set it down. You then clasp your hands together and look up at him with a hopeful look in your eyes. “You ready?”
He smiles to himself. “That was barely a break.”
“It was five minutes, that was enough.”
Marcus chuckles. He finds that it’s easy to talk to you and he’s beginning to enjoy being around you, even if he just met you ten minutes ago. “Alright, you’re the boss.”
It takes you and Marcus the next half hour to bring your king-sized bed into your apartment and then into your bedroom. Your apartment is a bit smaller than his, but it might also be because of the amount of boxes scattered around. Once you and Marcus set your bed the way you want it to in your bedroom, you lead him back outside to your living room and plops down onto the couch.
“So, uh, I should get going and–”
“Wanna grab breakfast?” you interrupt him. “Sorry. If you have something to do, that’s okay. I appreciate all your help, Marcus.”
Marcus wants so badly to say yes, to get to know more about you, but he has to remind himself that this is what happened last time with Lisbon. He’s sure that love and being in a relationship is no longer something he’s interested in.
“I actually have to go into the office,” Marcus lies. “But rain check?”
You nod and stand from the couch to walk him out of your apartment. You smile up at him and then reach down to grab the two mugs that were left in the hallway. You hand it over to him and stare into his eyes. “Next time, I’ll bring coffee to you.”
Marcus smiles and takes the two mugs. “Sounds like a plan.”
“Thank you again, Marcus.”
Marcus nods and then begins walking towards his apartment before he turns around and faces you. He’s a few feet away from you and you’re about to walk into your apartment before he stops you and says, “Welcome to the neighborhood.”
next.

Chapter 18
Optimus was talking to Ironhide when he felt something within his chest.
‘Optimus?’ Ironhide said, with an unusual amount of concern.
‘Jane?’ The great Prime felt his knees weaken, like something was being forced into him. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to be open to it.
To humans it would simply look like lines of code, but to Optimus, everything was clear. Jane was dying.
‘What can I do?’ Optimus asked, already feeling the pain of losing her.
The code ran in front of his eyes, his Spark was communicating with him. It needed information… about…?
Optimus opened his eyes and felt the panic begin to overtake him. ‘I know what I must do.’ He said and strode towards Jane’s old office where Theo was working and still upset with him.
‘Theo.’ Optimus said, kneeling down to talk to him. ‘I must speak with you.’
‘What could you possibly have to say to me?’ Theo spat.
‘Jane needs our help.’ He said. ‘Her Spark does not know how to keep her alive, at the moment your machines are doing the work for it, but it needs to understand how to do it alone.’
‘So then send a message, transmit it, or whatever it is you do when you talk to her.’ Theo went to walk away from Optimus.
‘I talk to her the same way you do.’ His deep voice echoing off the walls of the large lab space. ‘I cannot simply walk into Janes dreams and talk to her as you believe I do. I speak to her when she sleeps in the same manner as you. I am not as privileged as you may think.’
Theo paused for a moment, he really did believe that Optimus could communicate with his best friend in ways that he couldn’t. But Optimus needed to make clear that in this case he was nothing more than a bystander.
‘How can we help her then?’ Theo asked, his voice shaking as he did.
‘Her Spark does not understand how a human heart operates, we must teach it.’
     ‘How?’
‘I suspect you humans have many collections of written works on the subject. If you read them aloud, the Spark will hear it.’ Optimus explained. ‘It has learned enough from Janes brain waves to access her auditory functions.’
‘It’ll be like offering information for it to download?’
‘Exactly.’ Optimus nodded. ‘All this time we have been giving the Spark information it cannot use to save Janes life, it is capable of remembering everything it sees and hears, so now we must provide something more useful if Jane is to survive.’
Theo barely listened to the rest of what Optimus had to say, he’d already gone about stripping his lab coat off and searching his bookshelf.
‘I don’t have anything here.’ He said, annoyed. ‘We’ll have to talk to Dr Hanley, she can get the information we need.’
Optimus presumed that was the doctor who was keeping your recovery going, the one he’d spoken to a few nights before, he should have asked her name.
Theo rushed out of the lab and towards the hospital, seemingly not caring that Optimus couldn’t follow him. He just wanted to save his friend.
Optimus could Lennox and Smith arguing once again across the base. He decided it was best to return to the Autobot hanger while things calmed down.
For days Dr Hanley, Theo and even Lennox read to Jane, giving her Spark all the information they could on how the human body worked. Eventually Optimus began reading as well, if he was to spend the rest of his life with her, he needed to understand more than her mind.
Optimus realised in all his desperation and need, he was now in union with someone of an entirely different species and that meant certain things would not come easy or natural to him. Custom and culture was one thing, but anatomy was another thing entirely.
He tried to ignore the looks he would sometimes get from Ratchet, the one that told him the gravity of his choice was yet to be revealed, but instead he focused on anything positive he could.
Once Jane was awake, things might have been easier.
After a week, progress was finally being made. Dr Hanley was able to take away one of the machines keeping Jane alive. Optimus didn’t understand which one or what it did exactly, but she had been strapped into so many that, to him, it barely made a difference.
‘This is a good thing, Optimus.’ Dr Hanley told him one evening when he visited Jane. ‘It means she’s healing and your Spark is starting to learn more about what she needs. We’ve still got a long way to go, but things are looking up.’
Optimus looked over Jane’s body, noting just how fragile it looked, how broken she must have felt when she fell. It broke him.
‘Thank you, Dr Hanley.’ He wasn’t sure what else to say.
Dr Hanley gave him a sympathetic smile and left him with Jane for the night.
‘Jane.’ Optimus spoke quietly, his voice reaching a depth that would tell anyone of the pain he was feeling. ‘I wish you could tell me what it is you need. I feel… powerless.’ Optimus looked down, feeling the shame of his admission. ‘I do not know how long it will take for you to wake up, and I worry for your friends.’
His eyes grazed over her room, observing the machines keeping her alive. She was so thin now, all the muscle she’d built up for the climb had begun to wither and her face was gaunt in a way he’d never seen in any human before.
Dr Hanley kept assuring him that this was normal and as soon as she woke up, she would be able to regain her strength again, but for now, maintaining the essential organs her body needed was far more important.
‘I fear I have made a terrible mistake.’ Optimus’s voice shook. ‘I fear I have caused you more pain and you will awaken feeling hatred for me.’ He leaned forward a little more. ‘I would understand your feeling and not blame you in the slightest, but I have come to understand that perhaps my emotions got the better of me. Perhaps… I should have allowed you peace instead of this…’ Optimus was struggling to keep himself. ‘Until you give me a sign, I will continue with your request to offer information to your Spark, but Jane… please… come back to me soon.’
Optimus took a moment to compose himself, Jane was the only one he felt he could falter in his bravery with, the only one who could understand his doubts and worries, and not think him weak. But he had made a promise, he would help until she gave him a sign that it either was or wasn’t working. He owed her that much for saving the world.
