Hello again, hope life’s been good~

Anyway about Marcus’s daughter, I’m not sure if you remember but I’m sure a past comment brought up the idea that if Marcus was to die then his daughter (does she have a name??~) could be adopted by Silco (+Vander~) and be their 6th child, round out the 3 bio boys with dark hair and 3 adoptive girls with bright hair colours?~

It didn’t go any further than that but if Silco did adopt her (Idk how, maybe Marcus dies in front of her and Silco’s the only one there so she clings to her dad’s “friend” like a life line, and Silco’s just like ‘Ah shit’ cause now he can’t not adopt her~) what would that relationship with and the family be like, especially if she ever found out what her dad’s (Marcus) situation was actually like with Silco?~

(They wouldn’t be able to hide the whole ‘Eye of Zaun’ thing from her if she living with them, but that Marcus was Silco’s b*tch?~ Probably~)

I do wonder how easily Silco would be able to adopt her (as immediately bonded as he might be with her depending on the circumstances of her father's death). Only because she is the daughter of an important(ish) Piltite and Silco is still from (and living in) Zaun. You can definitively write it that Silco could (there's no other family around and Silco has the paperwork filed and signed off before anyone else starts to wonder what happened with Marcus' daughter?) but would it be that easy or would there be some pushback because we don't want her living down there in the filth of the Undercity. That's wondering off topic though.

There's obviously going to be a transition period because Ren goes from the only child to a (wealthish) Piltite to one of 6 to a (still wealthy) Zaunite. Like she's going from a house that is probably quiet most of the time with some staff doing the housework to the rowdiness of Vanco kids and being given (age appropriate) chores to help out with. Yes everyone in the family is at least trying to be welcoming to her and not overwhelm her but it's still a big adjustment. She would adjust but those first few days I can see being spent very wide-eyed on her part.

Finding out the actual relationship between Marcus and Silco would be a blow. And it's probably something she finds out quite late (being mostly told "they worked together" with no elaboration until finally one day someone goes "worked together? Ha! Silco told your original dad what to do and he had to do it, still don't know what Silco had on him to keep him that under his thumb").

She probably splits from the family and tries to do what her father had been trying - take Silco down. But, well, she's going to hit the same wall Marcus did there are enough people in the right positions who don't want Silco gone (because he's got blackmail on them, they see him as a necessary evil, or are now married to one of his kids). She's lucky that Silco can never hate his kids and he probably straight up tells her "you can hate me but I will always protect you". Which just makes the internal conflict worse.

Vanco things/plotbunnies that have been on my mind lately. I don't really know why but they ended up pretty Vander heavy.

- AU (or canon compatible backstory?) where it was hound!Vander who ripped Finn's jaw off for looking at/hitting on Silco.

- Looking at some of my poor meager attempts at writing I realized that I probably have a thing for Silco treating bottoming for Vander as something that requires a complex weeks long multi step planning process (also: Vander notices and thinks is brain breakingly hot and sweet that Sil puts so much work and through into it). It also appears that my head canon Silco is often very snobby about cheap lube and will send Vander on lengthy quests to retrieve a better one.

- What if Singed rather than keeping Vander sold him? And Vander/Warwick has been in captivity with somebody else and he comes back years later Count of Monte Cristo style? (thinking of it, I feel like that would have potential for a fix it!AU. Where rather than Vi coming to town to find Jinx, it's Vander. And I feel Jinx would have a lot more mixed feelings about reuniting with Vander than with Vi, so the situation would be a lot less clear. And maybe then Vander would figure out with Silco that Vi is still alive and okay maybe the truth is that I just want to imagine Silco and Vander plotting and executing Vi's prison break together.

Okay, they only get more dysfunctional and odd from here on:

- Silco sends somebody to seduce Vander and get intel from him and has insanely detailed and specific instructions on how to get Vander's attention, how to turn him on, how to blow his mind in bed, how to win his heart. Bonus: The instructions are written down, Vander finds them and calls Silco out. Alternatively: every goon or prostitute Silco wants to recruit takes one look at the list and nopes out.

- I have decided that baby!Vander is kind of a vain motherfucker (I swear: just rewatch the scene where he makes Powder a drink). So: Aro/Ace or demi leaning Silco and Vander who is driven mad because he can't stand anybody not being interested in him and desperately trying to win over a very, very confused baby!Silco. (note in this context baby! means anything between 15 and 25)

And as an offshoot of that:

- Baby!Vander and Silco sneaking into a club (yes specifically an Undercity club with music and dancing and not a fancy Piltover party), being woefully underdressed and doing the ViCait thing where they rob somebody for fancy clothes. Vander opening baby!Silco's eyes to his own hotness and sex appeal. Silco begins to use that for power and gain and Vander gets insanely jealous and finally admits to Silco that he's going to be incredibly offended if he doesn't get to be Silco's first. And because they are dysfunctional Silco is not too weirded out by this. Think them trying out a big buffet of odd kinks to see whether there is anything Silco might like.

I’m in the process of trying to fix my tags, because when I started this blog i wasn’t tagging at all and in be beginning I wasn’t tagging zaundads (figures.... the blog called zaundads forgets to tag zaundads). 

In the interest of making some arts easier to find I’ve considered tagging by content a bit more. I’ve already decided to add the tag OBHZF (one big happy zaunite family) for art that portrays them as a blended family. 

I’m debating whether I should tag smutty art as well as art that shows hugs, but I’m a bit nervous with the whole thing about tumblr banning certain tags, which means that tagging them “sexy”, “sweet”, “awwww” or “nsfw” or something like that probably isn’t going to work. 

I’m contemplating “Vander gives the best hugs” for Silco x Vander hugs and “Zaunites give the best hugs” for art that portrays other hugs. Maybe “so kiss me” for art that shows kisses? But I’m a bit stumped what I should tag the spicy arts without tumblr catching it. Any ideas? 

The other thing I wanted to ask the community: would you like a separate tag for the young/pre-betrayal Vander and Silco and one for their more middle-aged selves (to be used in addition to the ship tags)? if yes, any suggestions on what the different tags could be? I’ve seen people use dog/hound & rat in twitter iconography, but I feel that could still refer to both versions. Revolution bros? Or am I just overthinking it and there is no demand for it anyway?

I’ve been working in this job for almost a year now. Here’re some things I learned in that time: 1. Always be as proactive as possible. The more issues you address on your own terms, the less you have to address on others’.  2. Pay close attention to I/Os and daily weights. Some patients get fluid up or down subtly, and won’t show symptoms until their blood pressures start dropping or they get pulmonary edema.  3. If part of a treatment plan seems off, do some information gathering. Sometimes you’re the only one who’ll catch something before it slips between the cracks.  4. Humans are amazingly hardy and ridiculously delicate.  5. Talk to people. Take some time after rounds to visit with your patient as another person instead of a provider.  6. When patients get ornery, that usually means things are improving.  7. Sometimes you just know that someone’s going to die before they leave the hospital.  8. When covering another provider’s patients, read admission and prior history and physicals. Get a good context for why they’re here.  9. You’ll vagal the first time you do a bone marrow harvest. It doesn’t matter what your background is.  10. Get consults early if you think you’ll need it. Scrambling is bad for everyone involved.  11. Don’t feel self-conscious about dictating. If we tease you because you hit the wrong buttons, started again, laughed too hard to continue, hung up, and then restarted - it’s because we’ve all been there. We’re not judging.  12. Occasionally, the brand-new immune system will decide to kill the patient instead of the residual cancer.  13. Always have a backup plan in case something goes sideways.  14. If you have a neutropenic patient who’s febrile and hypotensive, don’t be shy - fluid bolus and throw penem/vanco/tobra at them until the cavalry arrives.  15. General internal medicine and stem cell transplant oncology have some overlapping elements, but there’s a huge difference in management, medications, etc. It’s like trying to understand French as a Spanish speaker.  16. Be polite to everyone. Techs, nursing staff, housekeeping, fellows, residents, attendings, whatever.  17. Eat, caffeinate, and bathroom when you can. Murphy’s law says if you skip a chance, that’s when poop hits the fan.  18. Keep reading and learning. Knowing more leads to better medicine and better patient experiences and outcomes.  19. Know at least basic radiographic and ECG interpretation. Yes, the specialists will give you the expert opinion, but if you want to know something right now it’s much faster to look at the images/ECG yourself.  20. Someone on high-dose corticosteroids may not develop a fever in response to infection.  21. Don't change things just for the sake of changing things. Sometimes it's better to just wait a day or two to see what direction your patient may go. 22. Providers work as a team. Help each other out. Not busy but the other folks in the room are running hard? Check on patients or return calls or do orders for them. 23. Be kind and warm to those entrusted to your care. To them you may be the only glimmer of light in an otherwise very dark time.

Also every name everyone calls each other has like… 100 words worth of stuff it’s supposed to clue you in on world building wise that I am very aware it doesn’t actually. There is justifications for it all though I promise.

“Wait I know you!”

When Viktor said he might have a solution to their funding issue Jayce hadn’t known what to expect. But it wasn’t the back entrance to a bar in the Undercity and a blue-haired girl he had been told he must have hallucinated.

The girl staring up at him is definitively the one he saw in his old lab at the Kiramman’s right before the explosion that changed the trajectory of his life though.

Which means that Cait had been lying about being the one to accidently cause it. And Jayce had been right that there were others there.

“Powder who are you talking to?” another voice says from inside the bar and a pink-haired girl appears behind the other. A girl around the same age as Cait is.  

Alpha Jayce picks up off her scent but she’s young enough that it’s not the full alpha scent. She definitively has the protective edge of it though, unlike Cait’s whose omega scent has gotten any of the real trademarks of the designation other than just a nebulous knowing she is one. People grow up faster in the Undercity Jayce supposes, especially when they have younger siblings to look after.

Although now that he thinks about it more there is something about both girls’ scents that reminds him of Viktor.

“Viktor! Why are you here?” the pink-haired alpha says, suddenly breaking into a grin before peering at Jayce with suspicion. “With a Piltie alpha?”

“I need to talk to Silco,” Viktor says, going to walk in only to be stopped by the blue-hair girl. Powder the older one had called her.

“You have to pay the toll first,” she says, her arms crossed.

Jayce almost goes to dig through his pockets for some money but Viktor’s sigh stops him.

“I was in a bit of a hurry, I, ah, forgot your present this time sorry,” Viktor says, “next time, I promise.”

The little one pouts and the young alpha rests her hands on her shoulders and seems to try and lead her away.

“You can’t expect a present every time Viktor visits,” she says and the little one seems to contemplate it for a moment.

“Fine,” she declares. “I’ll tell Dam you brought home a Piltie boyfriend then.”

“Wait- Powder- Don’t!” Viktor takes a step as if to chase after her but he doesn’t stand a chance, the girl off like a shot. Jayce reaching forward to grab Viktor’s arm that doesn’t have his cane to help him steady himself again.

Jayce doesn’t need to understand the language to know what comes out of Viktor’s mouth next is a curse.

“Well you’re screwed,” the pink-haired alpha says, watching them with sharp eyes. “Why did you bring him anyway?”

“He is my partner, ah, work partner,” Viktor corrects because the young alpha’s face clearly thinks he means the other kind. And while Jayce wouldn’t be against being the other kind of partner they hadn’t had that conversation yet.

“Right,” the pink-haired alpha says, scanning Jayce up and down. He has no idea how someone so young can still actually seem to be sizing him up and be actually intimidating with it. “Does this ‘partner’ have a name?”

“Jayce Talis,” Jayce says, holding out his hand.

It earns him a snort but the young alpha takes it.

“Vi,” she says, her handshake firm. “I’m the one that’ll beat you up if you screw over my brother after Silco leaves you in a gutter somewhere.”  

“Silco,” Jayce says after Vi steps aside to let them in. Jayce following Viktor through the corridors he assumes towards the bar. “I know that name.”

“You should,” Viktor says, but doesn’t offer anything else to help jog Jayce’s memory as they walk into the main part of the bar.

The man waiting for them quickly does the job of reminding Jayce who exactly Silco was. His face a lot harder to forget than this name. He had been there at the hearing as well – the Zaun representative – not that he had been allowed to vote because of the investigation that was still determining if there was any Undercity involvement in the explosion.

He somehow looks even more pissed off now than then he did then.

The blue-haired girl is sitting on the bar with a smug expression, making Jayce fairly certain he knows what is making Silco look so pissed. And if Vi is Viktor’s sister he feels fairly safe in guessing that it means Silco is Viktor’s Dam.

Which would have been nice to know earlier but Jayce supposes he hadn’t asked.

“Let the boy have a chance to explain himself Sil,” the alpha next to Silco says, running a knuckle up and down the omega’s side as if to try and calm him. And it is a testament to just how pissed off Silco looked that Jayce had somehow failed to notice the alpha at first despite the fact he was at least twice Jayce’s size. He clearly Silco’s mate and that means he’s probably Viktor’s sire.

Jayce can see it, he supposes. Although he doesn’t know where the two girls got their hair from.

“Fine,” Silco says with a glance behind him to the alpha, “Vitya, explain.”

“Jayce is my work partner,” Viktor says to thankfully get that misunderstanding cleared up. “And I brought him here because we wanted to discuss a business opportunity with you.”

Silco eyes Jayce up and down and Jayce tries to present himself as the kind of person one should invest in. Not that he knows if that’s the same in the Undercity as it is in Piltover.

“We can discuss this in my office,” Silco says, his anger deflating slightly. But there still a clear defensive edge in the omega’s scent.

“That’s great!” Jayce is already starting to move when Silco holds a finger up at him.  

“Not you, I will discuss this with my son first.”

“Right, sure.” Viktor was more than able to sell Hextech by himself even if Jayce wanted to be there as emotional support.

Not that Viktor would need emotional support for a conversation with his parent right?

Viktor doesn’t seem concerned at least. So Jayce flashes him a supportive smile as his partner follows his Dam into the back of the bar.

A second later Jayce realizes it leave him alone with the rest of Viktor’s family.

“They’ll probably be a while,” Viktor’s Sire says, heading back behind the bar. “Want a drink while you wait?”

“Sure,” Jayce says, because it would be rude to turn the offer down. Plus it gives him something to do, sitting at the bar and holding out his hand to the older alpha. “I’m Jayce Talis by the way.”

“Vander,” the alpha says, putting a drink in front of Jayce before taking the offered hand.

It’s said you can learn a lot about someone from their handshake. All Jayce is getting is that Vander’s grip is strong and Jayce is fairly sure he feels his knuckles almost give before the alpha releases him.

He wonders what Vander thinks of his own handshake then. Probably that it’s weak in comparison.

Not that he needs to impress him more than any other possible business partner.

“Vi and Powder are Viktor’s sisters right?” Jayce asks, taking a sip of the drink and almost spitting it out from how strong it is. He forces himself to swallow to not seem rude.

“Yeah,” Vander says, starting to clean the bar. Which doesn’t offend Jayce – they did interrupt by arriving unexpectedly. “Plus Claggor and Mylo, the other two boys, they’re downstairs doing stock take but’ll come up soon enough.”

“Doesn’t Viktor talk about us?” Powder asks, making Jayce jump from how she seems to suddenly appear at his side.

“We mostly talk about work.” Jayce had tried to start talking to Viktor about his family but the omega had seemed reluctant and Jayce had dropped the topic.

He doesn’t really understand the reluctance now. They seemed like a good family if a bit abnormal.

“What does he normally bring you when he visits?” Jayce asks to chance the topic, remembering the conversation about the ‘toll’.

“Something for my inventions.”

“You make things too?” Viktor wasn’t the only member of his family that had the need to create?

“Yeah!” the girl says, suddenly beaming and leaning over the bar to grab something out. Proudly slamming something on the table in front of Jayce.

“It’s a bomb?” Jayce realizes after examining the additions to the clapping monkey toy. He glances at Vander but the alpha doesn’t seem all that bothered by his still unpresented daughter building bombs.

“It’s a flash bomb,” Powder corrects like Jayce is an idiot. “Just to scare away mean people. At least it should if it goes off when it’s meant to.”

“Can I take a look?” Jayce asks, because he understands an inventors want to keep how their creations work to themselves.

“Sure,” Powder says pushing it over to him.

It’d weird working on a bomb with the intent to make it work. Doubly so one made by a child he is fairly certain broke into his lab less than a year ago.

Powder’s Viktor’s sister though and that has to grant her a level of trust right?

“It’s the connection between your timing mechanism and the flash, the wire itself is shit,” Jayce says, already digging into his coat pocket because he thinks he has some spare wire in there. “Here, try this.”

Powder looks at the offered wire.

“And this will make it work?” she asks.

“Should, unless there’s something else as well.”

A second passes and then suddenly the girl snatches the wire from his hand, grabbing her bomb and running off.

“Powder!” Vander calls after her and she stops dead in her tracks.

“Oh, right – thank you Jayce!” she says and then bolts off again.

“That was the right thing to do right?” Jayce asks Vander because, again, he just helped a girl build a bomb.

Vander shrugs.

“Should make her hate you a little less,” he says.

“Oh good. Wait- why would she hate me?”

That new parent Vanco ask got me thinkin. I'm a sucker for drama/angst and the thought of soon to be new parents Vander and Silco, two revolutionaries, about to bring a new person into the world, the stress.

I mean, Viktor had his kid in a piltie hospital (or home. Ya know, somewhere clean) and silco didn't. (Which is great to hold over his son's head when he's older).

So I don’t think their Revolution had really started to gain momentum when Viktor was born. But it was definitively still the fledgling phase where they had the ideas and were starting to do small actions to undermine Enforcers/build Zaun power.

And it isn’t just their revolutionary activities that would have them stressed. Like I mentioned in the previous post they were a lot younger and a lot less established generally when they had Viktor. They are also so stressed about what kind of life they can provide for their child generally. Hell, the fact they’re probably aware that they are living in an environment where they are constantly consuming toxic air/water/food and that their child will be as well is something they are painfully aware of. They are trying their best but Viktor misses out on a lot of things just because they can’t give it to him.

In some ways having a child probably drives them even further into their revolution. This isn’t the world they want their child to live in and they are going to do something about it both for their family and everyone else in Zaun.

Also I respond to the second paragraph and talk about birth trauma and shit under the cut.

Oh I can make it even worse. I mentioned in the notes of one of the posts in this verse that for this verse I think every single one of Silco's pregnancy should have been C-sections but were not (because Zaun + general time period sitting right on the cusp of medical advancement). And for Viktor’s birth that’s because Viktor was a breach birth (feet first) and that in this verse part of the reason Viktor’s knee is damaged is because it got dislocated during birth (plus general lower bone density caused by the toxic everything that Silco was consuming while pregnant and lack of access to good medical care meaning it causes permanent damage that is then exacerbated as he gets older). Silco had basically nothing for the pain (because they’re still young and poor at this point so it’s not even like they can fork out for the things they have available in even Zaun) and while they understand they have to keep things as clean as possible they only have like... soap and vodka and fire to do it.

Meanwhile, when Viktor has his kid he’s in Piltover (+ 20+ years time of medical advancement) so is not being exposed to anything too toxic while he’s pregnant (anything they know to be toxic at least), has much better pre-natal care generally (with some fairly advanced imaging capability), C-section being on the table should there be any signs of anything of concern (with that fancy imaging capability able to identify), and also yeah a cleaner environment to give birth in (and tools sterilised in an autoclave) and access to at least some kind of effective pain management.

Even just their pregnancies were different. Like Viktor has bad morning sickness? Cool take this medication it will help. Silco has really bad morning sickness? He’s hurled in every alley in Zaun and always has a bucket with him when indoors.

Their experiences are quite frankly worlds apart. And I do think it has Silco slightly seething about the inequality of the two halves of the city even if he is glad his child personally had a much better time than he did.

I adore your vanco mpreg sm, I love the idea of Silco being such a softie for the pups and the thought of Powder getting to meet her new baby sibling is just soooo pure

“Thanks for having them again,” Vander says as he holds a squirming Powder captive in his arms. She had been told she had a new sibling and had arrived home ready to bolt to the den to see them.

Vi at least is happy standing at Vander’s side waiting to be told they can go in.

“It’s no worries,” Benzo says with an awkward shrug. “How are they both?”

“Good. Healthy. Silco’s tired though.” And clearly very glad to be done with the pregnancy.

“He’s a tough one. I give him a day before he’s back on his feet bossing us all around.”

“I don’t know – I think he might need two days this time.”

Benzo laughs.

“I’ll make sure I have something for the baby by then,” he says and Powder suddenly sits up in Vander’s arms.

“You already have something for the baby,” she accuses. “Remember I found it!”

“Powder you know that was a surprise!” Vi snaps at her sister as Benzo laughs.

“You really don’t get to have secrets with them around do you?”

“I have Silco as my partner. I haven’t been allowed secrets for a very long time.” Not that Vander would change it for anything.

Benzo leaves after that, saying he didn’t want to hold off the girls meeting their sibling any longer and that he’d come back once Silco was up to taking visitors. Vander waving him off before taking the girls inside.

“They’re still very little so we have to be gentle with them,” he says because he can feel Powder’s excitement in the tension of her little muscles.

“Gentle Powder,” Vi repeats but there’s a definitive bounce in her stops that betrays her own excitement.

“Yeah, I know,” Powder says, but as soon as Vander puts her down she’s pushing the door to the main bedroom open and running to the side of the bed.

“Just us love,” Vander says at the flicker of nervous surprise that crosses Silco’s tired features.

Vi’s off after her sister to pull her away from her attempt to climb up into the bed.

“It’s alright, you can both come up and see him,” Silco says. “Just be careful.”

Powder is immediately shoving Vi aside to scramble up into the bed. Settling in at Silco’s side to gaze down at the baby swaddled in his arms.

“Oh, wow, he’s so tiny!” she stage whispers as Vi climbs in behind her.

“You were that small when you were born Pow Pow,” VI says but her attention is clearly more on their new addition than her sister.

“Can I touch him?” Powder asks and SIlco has to snatch her hand from where it’s already in the motion to do so.

He sighs when she looks up at him with wide, watery eyes and Vander thinks that maybe he should have had Benzo keep the girls an additional day. Let Silco sleep off the birth a little before they had to wrangle them as well.

“You can but you need to be very gentle,” Silco says.

Powder nods but Silco doesn’t release her hand. Instead guiding it slowly down to gently run along the new babe’s cheek.

“He’s so soft!” Powder practically squeals.

“For now he is” Silco says. “Do you want to hold him Vi?”

“I- If you don’t mind,” Vi says, trying to sound calm and mature despite clearly wanting her chance to interact with her new sibling as well.

“Wait- why does she get to hold him?” Powder asks.

“Because she’s older,” Vander says as Silco carefully sets Vi up with the babe in her lap. Not even needing to remind her to support the head as her new brother fills up her lap. “You can hold him in my lap after.”

Powder doesn’t seem completely happy with the compromise but she still crowds her sister and the baby.

“How are you going Sil?” Vander asks when Silco shuts his eyes and somewhat relaxes into the bed.

“Tired, gross,” SIlco says. “Bring me my brush so I can at least get my hair under control. I’ll wash once they’re all asleep.

I’m just trying to imagine Jayce’s mom Ximenia meeting her in laws in your Vanco!Viktor parent AU. I think she’d be able to hold her own against Silco by just out do him by being passive aggressively polite. She’s willing to do a lot to make sure Jayce and his kids are safe I think, if her performance at the trial was anything to go by. I also imagine since she’s not originally from Piltover she has a slightly different view of dynamics than either side.

While I agree I don’t think she’s originally from Piltover they don’t know that at the start. It possibly comes up in conversation, but because she doesn’t realise it’s something she might want to tell them (or they think they need to ask her) it isn’t raised early. 

I feel like she'd be charmed by Vander and Vander would be charmed by her. 

I mean, for gods sake the woman married a Black Smith (yes I know he owned the company and forges but he clearly knew the trade and taught it to Jayce) and that is a blue collar trade. So while he was probably not "Undercity Revolution-leader turned Bar Owner" rough, Vander on his best behaviour is probably somewhat in the realm of what she's used to (plus he's a very warm person generally, who clearly loves his kids). 

And Ximena isn’t looking down on them and clearly just wants what is best for her son (and Viktor being the one that supported her son when basically no-one else did makes her think he probably is & kind of wants what’s best for him as well now) and is clearly trying to be seen as good enough in their eyes as well. And to Vander that’s more than what they could ask for. 

Silco goes into the meeting defensive. And funnily enough I think what warms him up to her is her coming to defend her son when he makes a snarky comment about him. Because until that point he had thought she was a pushover (just kept her husband’s company running until her son was able to take over it, still very humble in lifestyle despite the fortune her son has made for their family), but he finds he has to re-evaluate her after that. I feel like he sort of ends up with a reluctant respect for her for how protective she is of her child, and meanwhile she decides she doesn’t give a shit what he thinks about her so long as they can Be Polite and Jayce is happy.
