Maybe that's just me because Claire is my favourite SPN character ever and because I'm such a sucker for Found Family, but it physically pains me that she's getting left out from 90% of fanwork where it's about the found family trope around the Winchesters. Like yes, she doesn't live with them, I understand that fully and I know it makes sense that she's not in the fanwork a lot, but just- she was part of their family too, in a way. She was there before Jack even existed, the trio (especially Cas and Dean) treat her like a daughter or little sister a lot of the time where she is part of the episodes (which are way too less, btw). But it seems like many people who create fanwork erase or forget her existence entirely or maybe they just don't like her, I don't know, but it makes me sad. Justice for Claire! ✊

I don't have twitter and I'm seeing posts but a lot of them involve knowing what I'm looking at...can you pls explain the latest spn/Jensen news, pretty please?
Sure! Explanation of the events of the past week (some of these dates might be relative to my timezone, apologies for any errors):
JUNE 24: News breaks that Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles’ production company has a prequel in the works focusing on John and Mary Winchester; entire fandom displeased
Fandom ire at the prequel focusing on John and Mary momentarily overshadows the fact that it seems like Jensen Ackles has the rights to Supernatural (!!!) and has ‘five shows in the works’ of which this is only the first
Showrunner is Destiel fan-favourite Robbie Thompson, responsible for such Absolute Banger Episodes as ‘Meta Fiction’ (see more here)
A lot of blowback from absolutely all sides of the fandom - BiBros et al mad that it focuses on Not The Brothers, Destiel fans mad it focuses on Not Resolving Destiel, everyone largely mad it focuses on John Winchester (widely regarded as abusive) and the ‘epic love story’ of John/Mary (canonically forced by cupid magic)
Various cast members including Misha Collins, Jim Beaver, Jake Abel, Ruth Connell and Julie McNiven reply to the article with comments indicating they’d like to be involved
Eric Kripke tweets that Jensen and Danneel are ‘the perfect people’ to take control of this story and Jared is ‘too busy Texas Rangering’ to be involved
JUNE 25: Jared Padalecki tweets about being left out of the loop on the prequel; absolute chaos ensues
See this ask reply for a list of tweets, events and reactions
I’ll also add that this gets large enough to get coverage on Vulture, Variety and other news sources
Robbie Thompson retweets his tweet from 2019 saying ‘I ❤️ you #SPNFamily’ in response to… everything
JUNE 26: A scramble for Jensen, Jared and Eric Kripke to do PR damage control on the Jared issue. Meanwhile, Misha Collins does his best impression of this scene from the Lion King to promote GISH
Eric later deletes all tweets about the issue, which is VERY funny. Man can’t handle the heat!
Very funny contrast between Jared’s ‘have a talk, as we often do’ and Jensen’s ‘miss these talks'
Jensen later changes his twitter header and bio from Supernatural/Dean Winchester to The Boys/Soldier Boys which IS somewhat unfortunate and perhaps deliberate break-up related timing
Jared tweets that he ‘doesn’t want anyone to receive hate or threats’ which is like… Jared YOU started this, YOU tweeted this to your millions of followers
JUNE 26: Jensen Ackles does further damage control by tweeting ‘Canon? we got you’ and linking to this article about what the show might hold, which points out the Problems of John Winchester
See article for further details but this implies Jensen actually does care a lot about doing right by the fans and the narrative canon
This, combined with the fact Robbie Thompson is running it, convinces most Destiel-side fans that the show Might Be Better Than Expected and one CW-approved stepping stone to greater things
BiBros are furious because article is written by ‘known Heller’ Natalie Fisher, who is friends with writers such as Meredith Glynn and Robert Berens
Meanwhile, Steve Yockey references the ‘Steve Yockey is dead?!?’ tumblr meme on twitter in a reply to Ruth Connell
JUNE 27: Gen Padalecki posts an instagram story which may or may not be shady commentary on Jensen Ackles
However, yesterday Danneel Ackles also promotes the Padalecki MLM product on HER instagram - can I just say I simply love the use of a) product promotion and b) instagram stories as tools of warfare and diplomacy
JUNE 28: Various scripts drop thanks to the team at tumblr’s spnscripthunt (go support and fund their efforts if you can!)
Notable changed content includes Castiel telling Dean to ‘parent’ Jack in 14.16 and Castiel texting emojis to Claire in 12.16 (possibly an in-script joke about Dean being attracted to a poodle?)
JUNE 29: News breaks that Chaos Machine Productions was started as ‘Free Will Entertainment LLC’
The name was apparently changed in October 2020 - was that as a result of the 15.19-15.20 filming? Or something else?
The idea that Jensen set up a company called ‘Free Will Entertainment’ to continue telling the story of Supernatural is honestly BONKERS. A lot to unpack here to do with the textual and metatextual narrative of Supernatural that I don’t have time to get into, since there’s about twenty wild implications that could be speculated from that name alone
Stock price on ‘Jackles’ Sexy Silence’, conspiracy that Jensen didn’t like the ending of Supernatural and was quietly plotting to take the narrative under his own control, to bring Dean back to life and possibly to canonise Destiel, reaches historic high
The fact does not go unnoticed that, through coincidence or not, Jensen and Danneel registered the company on a Thursday very close to September 18, the Lazarus Rising/Castiel Anniversary Date when Dean was saved from Hell
JUNE 30: Misha Collins makes a social media post with Castiel art for the last day of Pride Month
Twitter post liked by Robbie Thompson
On his instagram, Misha also puts music on the story of ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ a song made famous by Elvis and then subsequently Destiel AU Fanfic Twist and Shout
“The song was initially written from the perspective of a woman as “Can’t Help Falling in Love with Him”, which explains the first and third line ending on “in” and “sin” rather than words rhyming with “you” - Wikipedia knowledge obtained via @jurisffiction
Falling… sin… But we don’t have time to unpack all of that-
JUNE 30: 8.17 Goodbye Stranger script excerpt surfaces with Dean’s ‘I love you’ to Castiel
Fandom has long known that the ‘I need you’ was formerly an ‘I love you’ because Jensen believed Dean saying it in that moment to Castiel was out of character - but we did not have the script to prove specific changes
Additional ‘I forgive you’ not included in the episode - the original scene reads as very romantic, since this was Dean absolving Castiel for past crimes and telling him he loves him in the moments before death, as well as ‘I love you’ of course being what ‘broke the connection’ of Naomi’s control
Notably this episode written by Robbie Thompson, the very man Jensen and Danneel chose to helm their next project
JUNE 30: Misha Collins misses his blanky text
To cap all this off, Misha Collins texts fans a selfie of himself at ‘the spare room at Jensen’s apt in Vancouver’, saying he ‘misses his blanky’, implying he has spent many nights there
It has been an open secret that Misha basically shared Jensen’s apartment in Vancouver since around 2018 due to [redacted dubiously obtained information] but it’s never been publicly stated (to be clear, this does not imply anything other than friendship, as actors in Vancouver often share accommodation and Misha had previously couch-surfed at Jared and Jensen’s places)
Cockles shippers go wild. Does the ‘blanky’ refer to Jensen? Was there a reason to send this on the last day of pride month? Will this man ever shut up?
Hope that helps! May this wild carousel of News About A Show That Ended Eight Months Ago never end!

Are You Happy? (Save Them Some Pie)
HAPPY 42ND BIRTHDAY, DEAN!! this is my gift to him for being my comfort person that i would hug on sight if given the chance 💗 love you dude, may you indulge in copious amounts of pie. ~ 1.5k words.
also dedicated to marlo ( @heller-jensen ), jace ( @thiscastielhasflown ) and dee ( @castee-yel ) thanks for bein real ones <3
[READ ON AO3]
The day had already started out weird enough.
Dean had woken up drenched in sweat, mind racing with the last lingering thoughts of a nightmare. A vamp nest that he and Sam had been hunting, Dean dying in the most ludicrous way possible, and driving Baby down a long road for an indiscriminate amount of time in a supposed heaven that his father (his father) also co-habited. Needless to say, the dream had come out of nowhere, but it was easy enough to forget once the smell of bacon made its way into his room.
Breakfast was hardy and quick, with enough coffee to fuel him for the rest of the day as he skimmed the internet for a possible case. He had the itch, but apparently, looking around at the three sleepy faces around him at the table, no one else did.
He packed up anyway, preparing for what would likely be an easy salt-n-burn; he’d be gone for only a few hours, tops. On his way out, Cas stops him before he can scale the stairs, arm gripping his shoulder tightly. There’s a memory, briefly—the same hand, the same shoulder. Blood.
Dean looks down at it. Back at Cas.
“…Yeah?”
After a moment, Cas lets go. He steps back half an inch as if he had forgotten himself. “Just…be careful.”
Dean nods, moving to leave again, taking the awkwardness as both a Cas thing and a morning thing and content to leave it at that.
“And,” Cas says. Dean turns back.
“Come home.”
//
Dean picks up the phone.
“Hello?”
“Dean, hey! It’s, uh. It’s me. Krissy?”
Dean feels himself begin to smile, mindful of the road ahead of him. He balances his phone on his thigh while he drives.
“Hey, kid! Long time no call. How are you? Everything okay?”
The case had been as easy as Dean had suspected, but he had that familiar muscle ache and heaviness to his eyes that solo cases usually gave him.
Besides that, he was getting a little confused about all of the calls he’d been getting today. Before Krissy, it had been Garth, and before that, Claire and Jody and…
“Uh, yeah, dude, everything’s good. Um. How are you? How’s Sam and that angel of yours?”
Dean swallows to keep from choking, or potentially crashing the car.
“They’re good. Yeahgood.” Alive, he wants to say, back from the dead, probably in the DeanCave watching Scooby Doo without him. “Sorry, Krissy, ah,” he steps off the break to make a left, “I’m actually on my way home right now. Was there something I could help you with?”
There’s a pause, and Dean chances a glance at his phone to see if the call had dropped off. It hadn’t.
“Krissy?”
“I,” she huffs in what sounds like a laugh, “Nothing, Dean. You get home safe, okay?”
“Sure thing.”
“And hey,” Krissy says, before he can say his goodbyes, “Uh, make sure you save some pie for everybody else.”
Dean’s eyebrows furrow a bit, but he laughs. “I will. Take care of yourself.”
“Bye, Dean.”
“Ba-bye.”
//
Dean’s still mulling over the pie comment when he nearly falls down the stairs, squinting into the darkness of the Bunker.
“What the hell?” he asks, voice hoarse around the high note. “Guys?”
When there’s no immediate answer, Dean’s instincts kick in. He pulls out his gun and gently drops his bag, waiting a moment for his eyes to adjust so he can try for the stairs.
Before he can, though, the lights kick back on. His gaze locks onto the scene below, and Dean slowly lowers his gun.
“Happy birthday!” Jack says, the sound of a party horn whining shortly after. Beside him, Cas pulls the string of a party popper, and he jerks as bits of confetti fall around him and into his hair.
Skeptically, Dean starts descending down the stairs.
“You…this…” he manages.
“It’s your birthday, dumbass,” Sam says, swooping forward to slap a party hat on Dean’s head as soon as he’s made the landing. He smiles.
“Oh…kay.” Around them, the Bunker looks pretty normal. The only difference is the array of pies on one of the library tables, next to what looks like home made rice krispie treats, and a couple of birthday-themed plates and napkins. That, and the confetti from Cas’ party popper that litters the floor. “Are you sure?”
Cas frowns at Sam. “Sam was certain. I can’t imagine he’d get the day wrong, but he has had quite severe brain trauma over the years. Perhaps…” Cas reaches out to Sam’s head, probably intent on searching his brain for said trauma, or for the date of Dean’s actual birthday. Sam swats his hand away.
“Hey, no. My trauma is fine. Dean,” Sam redirects his attention to him, “It’s today. Did you really forget?”
Dean shrugs, trying to piece the day together from the beginning. Shitty dream, good breakfast, the three of them weirdly insisting on staying at the Bunker…the calls. Save some pie for everybody else.
He laughs. “So that’s what she meant.”
“That’s what who meant?” Jack asks. He’s wearing a party hat, too, with ridiculous stripes of blue and pink and purple patterned onto it. It matches the one currently strapped to Dean’s own. He shakes his head.
“You’re telling me all of you knew? This whole time? And…and…” He looks around again, pointing vaguely at the table and the confetti. “You put this all together for me?”
Sam shoves his arm playfully. “Course we did. Now quit pouting and come eat some pie.”
//
Sam is fast asleep, sprawled out on the couch hours later with one of his hands brushing the floor. Dean thinks he spots drool on the pillow underneath him.
Cas has been quiet next to Dean, at least since Jack had disappeared into the kitchen an hour ago and hadn’t come back, thoughtfully tracing the lip of his beer bottle with his finger.
“Something on your mind?” Dean asks, because he wants to know.
Cas continues unbothered. Scooby Doo reruns play in the background. Dean almost repeats the question, but Cas eventually lifts his gaze to stare at him.
“Are you happy?”
Dean presses his mouth shut. Licks his lips. He takes just as long to answer.
“You know what,” he smiles. “I think I am.”
Cas smiles back at him, soft and genuine. The skin around his eyes crinkling tells more than the gentle upturn of his mouth.
Dean swallows, nervously putting his beer down and turning it a few times until his fingers are wet with the condensation.
“What, uh. What about you?” He swallows again. “You happy?”
What he really wants to ask, though, is if they were good. If, after recent events, they were still the same. If Cas was still fine with “just being.”
He’s quiet again. Dean thinks he deserves that, and tries to pay attention to the TV, but the voice in his head is too loud. Cas has to tap his knee to get his attention again.
“Hm?”
“I was saying,” he moves his hand back, “that I’m sorry I didn’t get you a gift.”
Dean stares at him. “What are you talking about?”
Cas looks confused, like he’s about to repeat what he just said. Dean stops him short with a wave of his hand.
“Dude, you just got back from the dead, alright? That’s—that’s gift enough to last me a lifetime. Don’t worry about a gift.”
Cas frowns, and Dean rolls his eyes. It’s another few moments of tense silence, until Dean breaks it, his heart pounding in his chest.
“But, uh,” he says, “I might have a gift for you.”
“Dean, we don’t share a birthday. It’s not customary to gift me something, especially when I haven’t given you—“
“Cas,” he groans, officially putting his beer aside and facing him. Cas’ features are lit up with the colors of the TV. Dean reaches a hand up to pluck confetti from his hair, a green piece that he’d been eyeing all night. Hesitating, he lets his hand fall to Cas’ face, smoothing over his cheek and jaw. The TV paints his cheekbone purple. Dean brushes his thumb over it. “Just...shut up and let me do this.”
Cas tilts his head, eyebrows furrowed in that way of his, and Dean thinks he looks perfect. When he dips forward and presses their lips together, it’s perfect, perfect, perfect. He’s warm, his face is burning, eyes almost watering when he pulls away.
Dean lets his forehead rest on Cas’, heartbeat still crazy. He closes his eyes. “We can have it, Cas. This. We can have this.”
Cas takes Dean’s face in his hands, lifts it a little to bring them face to face again, so that he’s looking into Dean’s eyes.
“I’d like that, Dean,” he says, and his eyes are wet, too. Happy, Dean thinks.
“Your gift to me?” Dean manages, smile wobbly. He’s teasing, trying to bring down the weight of this without getting rid of all of it. He likes this type of adrenaline rush, different from any hunt he’s been on. Better.
Cas smiles. “I think technically it was you that gifted me, but, yes. My gift to you, if you’ll take it.”
“Gladly,” Dean says.
Cas hums back, brushing his fingers through the hair at the nape of Dean’s neck. “Happy birthday, Dean.” He leaves a kiss on his forehead.
Happy.
Dean thinks, for the first time, as he pulls more confetti from Cas’ hair, that it actually is.

in honor of friendship day, here's 1k of destiel fluff <3
“Whatcha doin' there, kid?”
Jack looked up from a tangle of colorful yarn on the kitchen table and a paused youtube video on the laptop in front of him. “Making friendship bracelets!”
Dean grabbed a mug from a cabinet and went to the coffee maker. “Doing what now?”
“It’s Friendship Day today and I want to make one for Claire.” He looked at the yarn in his hands which Dean could now tell was threaded together into a pattern. “And Kaia and Alex and Jody and Donna.” He sighed dramatically. “I have a lot to do.”
“Didn’t know Friendship Day was a thing,” Dean said, sitting across from him.
“Me either!” Jack said. “But Google said it was today and I have a lot of friends so I need to celebrate.” He weaved the orange and red threads together. “You should make one!”
Dean snorted and took a drink from his mug. “Think I’m a little too old for friendship bracelets.”
That was something he remembered girls in middle school doing. Making them during recess, passing them around during lunch. Supposed to wear one and never take it off, some superstition about not breaking the bonds of friendship. Never got one himself, so he couldn't say whether that had any truth to it or not.
He blinked to realize Jack was dumping yarn in front of him. “What?”
“I have extras, I flew to the craft store this morning to buy some.”
Dean recognized the determined look in Jack’s eyes; he’d seen it too many times in Cas’. "I dunno how to make one,” he tried as a last ditch effort to get out of this project.
Jack turned his laptop around so they could both see the screen. “I have a tutorial. It’s really easy.”
Setting down his mug with a sigh, Dean started rooting through the yarn, choosing different colors. Friendship Day. At another time, he would’ve told Jack he didn’t have any friends to make bracelets for. That wasn’t true anymore; the bunker was always getting visitors—hunters from other states, Benny, Charlie, Jody, Donna or one of the girls.
He realized the colors he was setting aside were all different shades of blue. Sure, he and Cas were a lot more than friends—he had a blooming hickey on his inner thigh to prove it—but he knew the way Cas’ eyes would light up receiving one. And, anyway, they were friends. Had been for a long time now.
Jack tapped the play button on the youtube video and it was settled. Cas was getting a friendship bracelet.
Maybe not a perfect one, Dean thought half an hour later, sticking his tongue out in concentration as he tried to make the bracelet turn out straight and not all wonky. He tested the length around his own wrist and decided it looked decent. Pretty good for his first ever friendship bracelet.
“Done,” he announced, looking up to see Jack starting on a third. “Jesus, kid, slow down.”
Jack didn’t look up, weaving the purple and white yarn together. “Can’t. I have to make one for Charlie too, just remembered.”
“She’ll love that.” He could almost hear Charlie’s excitement now. Getting to his feet, he ruffled Jack’s hair. “You got a lot of lucky friends. Having you as a friend, I mean.”
Jack beamed up at him. “I’m lucky too.”
And Dean thought he was the luckiest of all to get Cas as a friend-plus-more. He found the angel sitting in the library, reading a Pottery Barn magazine, the picture of contentment.
At his entrance, Cas looked up and smiled. “I found a bookshelf that I think would look nice in our room.” He turned the magazine around so Dean could see.
“Cool.” Dean hovered near his chair, suddenly feeling sheepish holding the thin bracelet in his hand. He cleared his throat. “Hey, you, uh. You know what day it is?”
Cas turned a page in the magazine. "Sunday, August 1st. 2021. 3:12pm. And seven seconds."
"No, it's like a special day."
Cas frowned, looking up at him. “Is today another human holiday I’m unaware of?”
“Nah, it’s not that important. Just, uh. Friendship Day. Jack told me. He’s making friendship bracelets for Claire and Charlie and everyone.”
Cas smiled. “That’s very sweet of him.”
“I kinda made you one. To celebrate, or whatever.” He held out the bracelet.
Cas’ eyes widened going from the dangling bracelet to him. “You made one for me?”
“Yeah, uh. Figured we’re friends, right?” Feeling his face heat, he ducked his head to take Cas’ hand and tie it around his wrist. “Just a weird thing people do.”
Cas turned his wrist to study the bracelet more closely. “I think it’s a wonderful sentiment. I didn’t know you were skilled at bracelet making.”
“Dude, it’s not that hard.” He sat down on the arm of the chair, more to hide his red face than anything. “Jack’s look way better.”
“I love it,” Cas said decisively. “If I had known about today, I would’ve made you one too.”
“It’s not a big deal.”
“It is,” Cas insisted. He ran his finger over the bracelet, blue threads forming a pattern more even in some places than others. “You’re my best friend.”
The simple statement, said so definitively, made Dean a little dizzy. Leaning down, he kissed Cas, felt the bracelet brush his face when Cas cupped his jaw. “You're mine too.”
Cas kissed him back, then tugged him off the arm of the chair to half-sit in his lap. The magazine slipped to the floor and Dean shifted, wrapping an arm around Cas’ shoulders to steady himself. He tapped the bracelet. “You’re not supposed to take it off. Kinda a symbol or whatever. Friends for life.”
Cas nodded solemnly and hovered his palm over the bracelet, a glow warming the strands before subsiding. "Nothing can break it, so I can wear it forever." He leaned his head back against Dean’s arm to meet his eyes.
“And, uh, if you made me a bracelet, I would wear it.”
“I will, then.” A slow smile spread across his face. “Does this mean we’re BFFs?” Dean groaned, and Cas laughed. “Claire taught me that phrase.”
“That’s so corny,” Dean complained. But he kissed him again. “Hell yeah we are.”

merry, merry christmas to @theta8 from your destiel secret santa!!!! here’s some domestic fluff(y snow) for you <3 thanks to @destielsecretsanta2020 for putting this together!
snowfall | destiel | 908 words
Okay, so maybe he’s being a little overly cautious, Dean realizes as he takes in the sight of Cas essentially waddling up the stairs to the door. But hell, it’s the first snow of the year, the first snow since Cas became human, and Dean doesn’t want him to lose any of his freshly human fingers or toes. Or something. Plus, he’s always freezing in the Bunker, pulling on extra sweaters and double pairs of socks. Still, maybe the blanket-sized scarf wound under, over, and around the puffy jacket zipped to Cas’s chin was a bit much. Especially with the bright blue earmuffs poking out from the lumpy hand-knitted hat Claire sent him. All that’s really visible is the tip of Cas’s nose poking out from the folds of his scarf.
“Dean,” Cas says, his voice muffled by layers of down and wool. “It isn’t funny.” He wobbles a little on the landing and Dean grabs a mittened hand to steady him, tipping his head back and laughing.
“Don’t move,” Dean says, wiping at his eyes with his free hand. He grins as Cas’s hat scrunches in a way that probably means he’s frowning, and pulls out his phone to snap a picture for Claire before realizing he’s still holding Cas’s hand. That’s allowed now, but it’s new and still makes Dean’s stomach flutter a little. “Here,” he says quietly, reaching for the hat to fold it up and out of Cas’s eyes. He lets his fingers linger there, smoothing the hair away from Cas’s forehead, then sliding down to stroke over his cheek. He can just...reach out and touch Cas now. And Cas could do the same, if he was able to move his arms.
Dean snaps a couple of photos of Cas alone for Claire, then leans into the frame to tilt their heads together. He doesn’t resist the urge to press a quick kiss to what little of Cas’s cheek is exposed to the air. (He gets a picture of that too, to set as his lockscreen photo later, which changes about every other day since Cas is always doing something photo-worthy and cute.) “Ready?” he asks, taking Cas’s hand in his once more.
Cas squeezes his hand once in response, not even bothering to mumble something through his many layers.
“Okay, then.”
There’s a rush of bitterly cold air when Dean opens the front door, even though they’re still technically underground. The stairs up to the ground level are clear, thanks to some sort of Bunker-magic Dean has never really understood, but is eternally grateful for. No matter the weather, the stairs leading from the road to the front door stay clean and dry. Good thing too, that way Dean doesn’t have to worry about Cas slipping on a wet step and breaking his newly-human neck. Not that Cas is clumsy at all, anything but, really. He moves with grace instead of Grace, like a dancer, carefully considering each step.
That certainly is the case when they reach the top of the stairs, still hand in hand. Cas gasps audibly at the sight of the perfect layer of snow blanketing the ground. The only blemish is the tire tracks leading from the garage to the road from when Sam left for a last-minute grocery run an hour or so ago, in case the storm got any worse.
“Dean.” Cas tugs his scarf away from his mouth and pushes his hat out of his eyes to gaze at the sight, turning in a tight circle at the top of the stairs. “It’s—“
It is. The thick layer of snow on the ground is still soft and fluffy, still bright and clean and unblemished. Everything is hushed, even Dean’s heavy boots make a shush-shush sound as he steps out further into the snow. It’s just starting to flurry again, delicate flakes drifting to settle on the ground.
If Jack, Sam, and Eileen were here, they’d probably make a snowman, or have a vicious vigorous snowball fight. There would be tackling to the ground and handfuls of snow shoved down the backs of shirts until they all traipsed back inside, freezing and red-cheeked from the cold and from laughter. Sam would peel off his hat and shake his wet hair out all over Dean before Eileen whacked him gently with a towel (then did the same to him).
But they’ll save that for another time because it’s just Dean and Cas today, and Cas seems content to just tip his head skyward and watch as the snow falls quietly around them. And Dean is content to shove his hands in his jacket pockets and watch Cas watch the snow from a few steps away.
After a while, Cas looks at Dean and grins broadly, which Dean takes as his cue to shush-shush back over to him. He laughs a little, cupping Cas’s cheek with one hand. “You’ve got snowflakes in your lashes, y’know.”
Cas lets his eyes flutter closed slowly, smile turning into something gentle and fond and trusting. Dean thumbs under each eyelid carefully, then tips his forehead against Cas’s and closes his eyes too. Mittened hands come up and cover his where they rest on Cas’s cheeks. They share breath for a moment, a minute, maybe longer as snow settles in their hair, on their shoulders.
“I love you,” Cas says simply.
And, in this frozen moment, Dean says, “I love you too, Cas.”

Every month of 2021 ♡
post your favorite or most popular post from each month this year <3 (it’s okay to skip months!)
tagged by: @endverse - thank you so much gen!
So I started/ moved to this tumblr mid year - so I'll start when I started posting stuff and I'll also pick one edit and one piece of writing for each month and I'll go with my favourites as opposed to most popular posts.
JULY
Edit: Claire Novak & Good Girls lyrics - the only thing I made in July but I really like it! Screen Violence by Chvrches is definitely in my top 3 albums of 2021 and this song just fits Claire so well! And I like my use colours as well.
AUGUST
Edit: Dean Winchester & Final Girl lyrics - more Chvrches! We all love our final girl Dean!
Writing: My Father's Son - a Dean poem about heritage & legacy - still one of my favourite spn poems I've ever written!
SEPTEMBER
Edit: Horror in Daylight - Loved trying to make screencaps from Baby have a more horror-like colouring, but also trying to keep its bright day setting.
Writing: I Carry Corpses - a Dean poem about grief, also one of my favourites!
OCTOBER
Edit: Monster Movie coloured according to B&W era tinting conventions - this is really niche, but I really like it! Black & white films were in reality often originally showed tinted and there were conventions for how to do it, e.g. blue for night and green for the mysterious.
I'm gonna do two for this month since I really like Revenge: Dean vs. the Styne family as well. I'm really happy with the colours in this one - I think it has the feel of a sort of fun & stylised modern horror/thriller.
Writing: An Oddly Specific Spell Ingredient - a Sam POV Destiel fic, lighthearted & humours 5k fic. Also features a sly & awesome Rowena. I'm quite proud of this one as I think I managed to keep all the characters quite in-character.
And fave poem: The Longing of Dean Winchester - a Dean & Destiel poem about longing.
NOVEMBER
Edit: Destiel & Safe From Heartbreak lyrics - I had fun playing around with text placement and I like how it turned out!
Writing: Poemnatural - I started this sort of crazy project where I attempt to write one poem for each episode of spn! Fave of this month: Foundations of Dead Women - a meta-textual poem on S01E01
Non-Poemnatural poem: The Ruin of Your Father's House - a lemony/limey and blasphemous Destiel poem.
DECEMBER
Edit: The beauty of American Nightmare - just stared this series to highlight shots I find particularly beautiful/interesting/cool in 12.04 - it's fun because there are some truly stunning shots in this episode!
Writing: Poemnatural: Roots - a S01E09 poem about the toxicity of places you have called home.
Non-Poemnatural poem: The Rules - a poem about how John's words have harmed Dean's self-worth. My more in-depth though on this particular poem can be found here.
Tagging:
I think most of my taglist besties has already done variation of this but if you want to do another: @emeraldcas @supernatural-jaeger @jactingjoices @chapeldean - but do feel free to ignore this. (You already posted yours while this sat in my draft @lengthofropes ❤ but do go check hers out - so much good content!) Since I've been very sporadically online during the holidays I might have missed it if you've already done it, but if you want to I'd love to see ones from @knifelesbianjo and @crossroadsdirt as well! Also tagging anyone else who wants to do it!

(took this uquiz and suddenly had a lot of Opinions about the Destiel wedding, so here you go)
The music starts out perfectly fine. Dean and Cas spent hours working on their playlist, sitting across from each other at the kitchen table in the bunker, tapping their legs together and getting into full-blown foot wars on no less than three separate occasions.
It was nice. Domestic. Something neither of them thought they’d ever get, or deserved, and yet here they were.
They had come up with a mix of classic rock (of course) and the pop songs that Cas had developed an affinity for, because Dean was quickly becoming incapable of looking into those pleading baby-blues and continuing to say no. There were also some Taylor Swift songs thrown in, which Dean would blame loudly on Cas to anyone within earshot every time one of them played.
Their first dance was to REO Speedwagon’s “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” because Dean’s a sappy son of a bitch sometimes. (Screw it, he deserves this. Plus it made Cas smile that adorable, gummy smile of his, so he’s gonna put that one in the worth-it column.)
After that, things were awesome. Hell, they were perfect. The floor of the Roadhouse was crowded with more friends and family than he’d ever realized he had, tables and chairs pushed up against the wall to make room for an impromptu dance floor. People were laughing and smiling, relaxed in a way that hunters rarely were. Bobby and Ellen were talking in a corner, smiling over at where Jo and Ash had drawn a small circle of spectators to their intensely competitive arm-wrestling match. Jody and Donna had struck up an eager conversation with a prickly Rufus, who was enjoying himself far more than he’d ever let on. Patience and Alex were listening patiently to an over-eager Jack, who had somehow inherited Cas’ old fascination with all of bee-kind. Claire and Kaia were dancing suspiciously close together, but judging by their matching blushes and wide grins, they were pretty happy about it. Rowena was having an equally suspicious conversation with Charlie, who was talking in between sporadic bouts of dancing whenever she heard a bit of a song that she likes. (She had brought her good camera, petitioning Dean and Cas for what she referred to as a “wedding montage.”) Garth was dancing enthusiastically, pausing only to look at Bess and their kids with the sappiest damn doe eyes Dean had ever seen. Linda Tran was determinedly steering a protesting Kevin to the opposite end of the room from wherever Crowley happened to be, wearing his most innocent, detached look as he surveyed the room. Even Mary had come, and was busy trying to cheer up a storm-faced John. (It had taken a considerable amount of effort to restrain Cas from stomping over as soon as John had entered, but Dean had managed, not wanting to deal with drama on this of all days.)
And, perhaps most importantly to Dean, was Sam, who had been glued determinedly to Eileen’s side the whole time. He was happy for them, and so had obviously spent every possible second teasing them about when the next wedding would be. Judging by the way they were rocking slowly from side to side to the tune of “Highway to Hell,” off in their own little world, it wouldn’t be too long.
And so it went for the first hour and a half or so. After their first dance, Dean and Cas had been content to sit off to the side, holding hands (because that was a thing they could do now, and Dean didn’t think he was ever going to get over the novelty of it), and contentedly observing the little family they had built up over the years.
Then, all of a sudden, the music stopped with a scratch, and none other than Garth clambered unevenly onto a table, shouting into the already still room for silence. Someone had made the mistake of letting him drink a whole beer, and he had then decided that the music arrangements were unsatisfactory, and he could do better. (Maybe the open bar had been a mistake.)
Two and a half a cappella renditions of “I Like Big Butts” later, someone finally coaxed Garth off of the table, and the music started up again to relieved cheers from everyone in the room. Garth retreated glumly back to his family, who assured him that he had been wonderful, then had to hurriedly stop him when he took this as an invitation for an encore.
Dean watched all of this play out with a smile on his face, wanting to watch the shenanigans play out rather than interfere. As the music resumed, he sighed and scooted over to lean against Cas, who turned and pressed a soft kiss to the top of his head.
This was just the beginning, and things were good.
They were finally free to have what they wanted - and it was perfect.
(Also, I should thank @castiellesbian for making the uquiz that inspired my gay little writing spree. You’re wonderful!)

The Destiel Harlequin Challenge Master Post: 2020 Mega Bang
Participants in the 2020 Destiel Harlequin Challenge completed an amazing 20 fics and 3 sets of artwork! You can learn all about those here!
Spectre (fic by a_dusky_gold, art by aceriee)
This whole thing… this was supposed to be a fucking farce. A way to keep Nicholas Vaught occupied until the deadline he’d given Dean would run out, and he’d still get the money to send Dad to the Town Hall rehabilitation for alcoholism, because that was the goddamned deal.
There were no such things as ghosts or magic or a Book of Life. Dean knows, okay? He wasn’t the Army’s goddamned Mystery Raider for nothin’; he knows history, he knows artifacts, and he knows that the Book of Life is an ancient myth that is about as real as werewolves or vampires.
And yet.
“The Book of Life,” the man had said. Dean can’t even remember his name.
Shit, shit, shit.
Dangerous Ground by Amethystaris
Special Agents for the Department of Diplomatic Security, Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester have been partners and best friends for three years, but everything changed the night Cas admitted the truth about his feelings for Dean. And when Cas was shot a few hours later, Dean felt his reluctance to get involved was vindicated.
Can a camping trip in the High Sierras save their partnership?
Honour Undressed by andimeantittosting
Among his friends, Castiel, Lord Milton is everyone’s confidant and, along with his trusted valet, the fixer of problems. But there is one secret Castiel has never shared: he is in love with his valet and has been for years.
Born in the gutters, Dean Winchester was assigned as Castiel’s batman in the war, and when Castiel travelled home to take up his title, Dean followed him as his valet. To assist Castiel, Dean is not above a little burglary or blackmail. But the one thing he wants for himself is Castiel’s heart.
When Castiel’s closest friends become the target of a blackmailer, certain truths come out. But while Dean determines to seduce Castiel, Castiel is adamant that he must resist, for if there is one rule a gentleman must follow, it is never to dally with his servant.
Havenport by BlueMasquerade
Castiel cleared space on his desk by the expedience of sweeping the previous contents to the side. He set the bundle down in the center of the surface and studied the knots in the rope before expertly untying them.
The book was old, its leather bindings cracked and crumbling. He carefully opened the cover to reveal the pages within, each hand cut, the edges beautifully deckled, the text written in pen and ink.
“This is written in ancient Enochian.” Castiel looked up, gaze narrowed. “Where did you obtain a book written in ancient Enochian?”
“Is that what it is? All I could tell is that it sure as hell isn’t English.” Mr. Winchester grinned, a dimple flashing in his cheek.
an aching in my heart by contemplativepancakes
When Dean’s best friend dies, leaving behind her daughter, Dean knows he has what it takes to give Claire the life she deserves. The problem is, they’re not related by blood, and Claire’s long lost uncle gets called to take her in. Castiel Novak was bad news when he was in highschool with Dean, and judging by his blue hair and tattoo sleeves, nothing’s changed. Castiel ran out on his family once before, and there’s no way Dean’s going to let that happen to Claire without putting up a fight.
Fools and Fate by Danica_Dust
Castiel Novak fled his coven to escape the rigid, predetermined Fate laid out for him within its confines. Desperate and alone, he took shelter in the city of Sacriloga, forsaking all magic and living off whatever he could steal. There, witches like Cas are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
When Jack, a young witch also on the run from his own coven, seeks out Cas’ aid, however, Cas finds that he cannot reject the boy, leaving him to his sure destruction. Especially after the newest visitor to Sacriloga makes his presence known: the legendary Hunter, Dean Winchester, who has been following Jack’s trail.
Sworn to the Men of Letters, Hunters live by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Dean’s path was never meant to cross with Cas', but a desperate stunt and a single mistake forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
The war between the witches and the Men of Letters is an ancient one and Cas' most dangerous enemies bring a Fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore his growing feelings, yet powerless to change what he is, a choice must be made.
A suffocating Fate on one hand. A precarious freedom on the other. And in between, the kind of love that makes fools of us all.
Ozone by Deancebra
A young magic user who wants desperately to live. A jaded recluse who has forgotten what living means. They’re each other’s only chance.
Dean’s wild magic is killing him. The mage guilds have given up on him, and it’s only a matter of time before he dies in a spectacular, catastrophic bang. His only hope is an exiled wizard who lives in seclusion—and is rumored to have lost his mind.
The years alone on his hilltop estate have not been good for Castiel Novak. After the magical accident that disfigured him and nearly destroyed the village, he drifts through his days, a wraith trapped in memories and depression. Until a stricken young man collapses on his driveway, one who claims Castiel is his last chance. For the first time in fifteen years, Castiel must make a choice—leave this wild mage to his fate or take him in and try to teach him, which may kill them both. The old Castiel, brash and commanding, wouldn’t have hesitated. Castiel the exile isn’t sure he can find the energy to try.
A Demon Like Him by EllenOfOz
Dean Winchester doesn’t want to be a warlock. The idea of working in a lab, channeling demonic magic into enchanted batteries is not what he wants to do with his life, but it’s a dangerous opinion to have—his father was a powerful and well-connected warlock, and Dean is expected to follow the family tradition.
His only way out is to fail the demon summoning class—failure means expulsion from the Warlock College. Despite Dean’s best efforts to fumble the summoning, it works. Although not the way anyone expects.
Dean’s demon, Castiel, is an incubus, but also a powerful mage on a mission to rebalance the magic that is being stripped from Demonside by warlocks.
Dean must choose: fail out of his final exam and turn his back on becoming a warlock, or help Castiel and graduate. But he doesn’t count on how hot the incubus is, or how close they have become in just a few days.
A Working Relationship by fangirlingtodeath513
The homes that Castiel Novak designs for Angelic Houses are to die for. They’re pristine, perfectly designed and organized, and they’ve caused more than a few bidding wars. It’s the perfect job—he’s organized, good with math, and he’s able to pick up on design trends relatively quickly. The only thing that isn’t perfect? His obnoxious older brother, Luke. Castiel’s been vying for a position on a flipping team for years now, but Luke has never even considered it. When a lecherous gossip reporter overhears an argument, they receive an offer they can’t refuse.
They’re invited to compete on Flip Off, a competition where two people flip houses and compete for the highest profit. Castiel wants the leverage a win would bring him, but he also wants to prove himself. Enter Dean Winchester, a contractor with his own team and one that’s blissfully unconnected to Angelic Houses, allowing Castiel to prove himself without any help from the family company.
The undeniable attraction between them certainly doesn’t help matters, but Castiel is resolute in his decision to make a move only after they’ve finished working together. At least, that had been his plan until Dean made him an offer he simply couldn’t refuse.
Crashing In by followyourenergy
Castiel Novak is convinced he’s the last unwillingly single person in Lupine Cove. Even Gabriel, his perpetual bachelor brother, has found love. It’s probably because Cas leads the most boring life in existence. He’s a gay man living in a rented, one-room cottage in the same small coastal town he grew up in, just getting by as the owner of the same convenience store he was practically raised in. The most excitement he gets is chatting with the locals or maybe, if he’s unlucky, oversleeping and rushing to work. So when a baby is left at the Safe Haven drop-off at the local fire station, he takes the opportunity to step in for the child temporarily, at least until suitable parents, plural, can be found.
Life certainly gets more interesting.
And it gets even more interesting when a handsome man comes crashing—literally—into his life.
Make Me Believe by GhoulsnHalos
Ten years ago, Castiel Novak’s stepfather disowned him, taking from him his place as hereditary heir to the head of the Hunter and Warrior Guild. Now, he’s a self-made, and celebrated, master gem and metal smith. Castiel doesn’t believe that the God’s decide your soulmate. Until he designs what can only be a gift fit for his soul mate, who in contradiction to the etiquette, if not the laws of Neffroen, must be a man.
Dean Winchester is convinced that he is a lowly, dumbass, no magic hunter who couldn’t possibly be on the same social scale as a Novak. So, why is it when he spots the jewelled torc in Castiel’s shop, Dean develops an obsession over the neckpiece and its creator? It can't be anything to do with the will of the Gods, no matter what anyone says, because that's baloney and Dean's not into men.
When Castiel’s long-lost brother turns up and suggests he ought to challenge their stepfather and that Dean is destined to help Castiel rule the clan, Castiel takes some convincing. The real problem is Dean. Can Castiel with the help of family and friends convince Dean of his place by Castiel’s side? Can Dean play the part everyone expects of him to help Castiel regain his rightful place in society?
Shielded Heart by JuniperJones
Arthos, the Infinite City, is a place of alien wonders and indescribable beauty—and, most importantly for Dean, it’s also halfway across the universe from his abusive ex-fiancé. He came to the city desperate for a fresh start, but he finds himself downtrodden on a world of aloof alien beings with little hope of finding his place—and a good chance of being kidnapped or killed before he can even settle in.
At least until he is saved by an irresistible alien with piercing eyes and a seductive smile.
Castiel is the living embodiment of temptation, and he makes no effort to disguise his desire for Dean. But when his past threatens to drag Dean into a dangerous underworld, Dean discovers Castiel isn’t who he claims to be. After enduring so much suffering, can Dean bear to take a leap of faith with this mysterious alien? Can he trust Castiel with not only his life, but his heart?
Stumble and Fall by Kitmistry
Castiel was raised to do one thing: serve his country, whether that was fighting a war or becoming an expert spy. But when his lover is charged with treason and executed Castiel defects. He has evidence that can destroy the KGB’s entire spy ring in New Mexico, he has names of scientists involved with atomic weapons who send information to the Soviets, and he won’t stop until he has revenge.
Putting all his trust in the Americans, Castiel finds himself under the protection of U.S. Marshal Dean Winchester, who is too cocky and attractive for his own good, but at least seems to know what he’s doing.
When a routine transfer to a safehouse goes horribly wrong, Castiel and Dean narrowly escape with their lives. With the Marshals compromised and Castiel being framed for murder, he and Dean are on the run from KGB and law enforcement alike. They have no one to trust except each other, and nowhere to go that their enemies can’t reach.
The Shots We Don’t Take by MandalaRose
Still nursing the tatters of a broken heart and trying desperately to stave off the terror of his impending graduation, college senior Cas Novak decides it’s time to blow off a little steam. Not just any hook-up will do, however. The last thing Cas needs right now is a distraction. On the lookout for someone he can enjoy a steamy night of passion with before leaving them behind entirely, Cas thinks he’s found exactly what he needs in cocky university hockey star and well-known playboy Dean Winchester.
Dean is gorgeous, doesn’t date, and is the singular most infuriating person Cas has ever met. He’s the perfect one night stand...that is, until Dean decides he wants an instant replay of what was supposed to be a one-time event. Will Cas’ offer of friends, sans benefits, convince the arrogant love ’em and leave ’em hockey defenseman to find an easier score? Or will Dean wear down Cas’ defenses and lure the sexy nerd in the dorky trenchcoat back to his bed?
Bullets Over the Bayou (fic by mattzerella_sticks, art by dontbelasagnax)
Everyone wants Castiel Novak to quit the force, including Castiel. But he stays on despite the toxic work environment he’s surrounded by. Still believing he can do some good despite the many lines of red tape impeding him. Luckily, a pair of scissors by the name of Dean Winchester drops into his hands, and he finally feels like he can do some good.
Dean Winchester thought he would be in New Orleans for a day or two. Identify the body of his deadbeat father and then move on. No one knows he’s here. His mother and brother are blissfully unaware of the danger his father roped him into. With a parting gift of a journal, delivered to him the same day he received word about his father, Dean has become the target of a group of people who want him dead. The same people who killed his father.
Racing against the clock, can Dean and Castiel figure out what is so important about John Winchester’s journal that someone would kill for it?
Masquerade by noxsoulmate
It had begun as such a good plan; one that benefitted them both. And masquerading as Castiel Krushnic's boyfriend during the weeks of balls, galas, and charity events certainly was no hardship. With the impending end of their arrangement, though, Dean Winchester must admit that behind the mask of an aloof CEO lies a man he could fall in love with. Or maybe, he already has…
The Medium by raths_kitten
Detective Dean Winchester hates it when his Chief sends a medium to consult on his cases. But this time, the murder is closely linked to Castiel’s world and they both need to work together to solve it.
Any Semblance of Touch (fic by saltnhalo, art by c-kaeru)
1925, New York.
Dean Winchester’s life’s work is protecting the world from the supernatural relics that could destroy it. When an amulet with the power to control the tides is shipped to New York, he must intercept it before it can be used to devastating effects. This time, in order to succeed, he needs a powerful psychometric… and the only one available has sworn off the magical world altogether.
Castiel Novak’s gift comes with great risk. To protect himself, he’s become a recluse, redirecting his magic into museum research. But with the city’s fate hanging in the balance, and faced with the power of Dean’s charm and persuasion…
He can’t force himself to say no.
The Love of a Righteous Man by SargentMom573
Five years ago, Captain Dean Winchester defied his father, Senator John Winchester. With his brother Sam, and his spaceship Impala, Dean found his place among a ragtag fleet of pirates and smugglers. Their latest mission left him with a price on his head and a scar on his heart. When a surprise attack separated him from Sam and revealed a Sith weapon, he would do whatever it took to bring his brother back – even sacrifice his own happiness.
After Emperor Michael’s death broke the psychic link between them, Emperor’s Hand Castiel Novak spent years drowning his sorrows at the bottom of a barrel. Mostly sober, three years ago he found a new purpose as the Impala’s Chief Medical Officer, and Sam Winchester’s guide in the Force. And a good friend in the Impala’s gruff but kind Captain.
Dean and Castiel must work together to bring Sam home alive. But when Castiel’s last mission is exposed, will Castiel complete it and destroy any hopes Dean had for a family? Will Dean forgive Cas’ horrific purpose before it is too late? And give them both what they really want — the love of a righteous man.
SKID by spnsmile
Dean Winchester swore off love after getting dumped and fired from his job the same day. Badly drunk, he ended up balcony-hopping until a pair of hands snatched him inside a darkened room. But it's no hero, it's someone with deep voice whispering threats with a gun pointed at his back. Dean’s too drunk to deal with life but one good look at his hot assailant plus enough beer sold him to his accursed fate. The next morning, he found himself engaged to the most notorious leader of a powerful clan, Castiel Novak.
Married life in the compound for a month was not as blissful so when he could, Dean fought for that freedom. Castiel relented and as Dean tried to put the pieces of his normal life together, getting a bike messenger job and dealing with pain in the ass clients, he now also needs to deal with the dangerous presence of his very jealous and very protective husband watching over him.
Is his life ever going to get back to normal?

2, 6, 9 and 14 for the Sapphicnatural ask! <3
thank you ally!!! 💖
2. favourite rarepair?
oh god... ok i think i have to say Amara/Mary 🥺 it's just. like it was actually a surprise to me to come to see them as such a compelling ship? i started writing my Mary fic and i knew i wanted to explore this thing with Amara bringing her back and both of their pov, and it ended up.... just making so much sense to have them together. i let the story took me and it took me there!
some destiel parallels appeared, and this complex dynamic of i hate you/i owe you/i want to hate you/i love you... like from both sides it's sooo interesting. also love that Mary was, in a way and for so long, the og mother, and Amara is the og woman. and they're both actually not that and way more than that.... VS Rowena who is introduced as neither a mother (she has a son but she's not a Mother you know), nor a woman like others. these three live in my head. someday i will write smth specific for them
6. tell me the BEST spn femslash fanfic you've ever read
is this when i out myself as "i don't read many fics besides destiel i'm so sorry sapphics"...? 😭😭 i have a few one-shots marked for later but i still haven't got into it.
i MEANT to read one last night to have an answer to this question but i'm brain dead. specifically there's a Jody/Mary one who seems super interesting, been wanting to get into it for weeks, it's called neatly-labelled leftovers.
so i'm taking this opportunity to promote your Ambriel/Anna fics 💕 they're very cute, we stan rarepairs, and Ambriel truly deserves to come back & get a gf thank you for your service 🙏
9. post or link me your favourite spn femslash creation made by you
ok so i'm starting to run out of sapphic content i made 😂 thanks god for sapphicnatural week!! i have cool things planned 🤭
i still have a few left, so for you i've picked this little amv i made, the concept was to have like, a "phone video dump" from Claire's phone, and it's only some very domestic-daily life shots of Kaia
i did one from Kaia's phone as well, but this one is way more underrated. i liked to think of Claire picking the habit of filming from Kaia, except Claire would like... do it with less skills, more randomly, and so would end up with these awkward framings. like it would start as a way to make fun of Kaia's habit (affectionate) but she would enjoy it. so the editing is Like That on purpose. i had sooo much fun working on these two videos, trying to show some personality behind the shots ; to make it less "professional" ; working on a new size ; and it was one of my first attempts at coloring that much. picked the colors directly from the lesbian flag ✨
youtube
14. favourite female character you wish we'd seen more of?
you know what it's time to talk about her: AMARA. she's one of my ultimate fav character on the show, even tho canonically she's like, 75% lost potential and she's good mostly in my head i think 😭 but EXACTLY i wish she was there more, so we could get to know her better and know her outside of chuck's arcs!! she deserved to be her own character, and god truly s15 Amara was a gift but at what cost (the cost was not knowing wtf even happened to her exactly).
if i get into specific, i even wish we've seen more of teenager Amara!!!! it was sooo interesting to see her growth, the way her behavior is truly like a child, and she's discovering the world... it's such a cool idea to have this character who's older than everything but who is a bby in this world, learning how it works, its rules, its beauty.... the way at first she only sees suffering, but then learn to love it. but they ruined it by sexualizing her they literally put a (ugly) black dress on her character and let that hide everything she was offering & telling. and that's how a lot of viewers see her as well!!!! i hate it. bc yeh, she's way more developped in my head, but already in canon there is A LOT but people never read into her bc they think she's here to be a love interest and try to make Dean evil but NO!!! that's literally the narrative chuck's portraying!! anyway this wasn't supposed to be a rant over the misundertanding of Amara....

On the ending of Supernatural
Hi, I’ve never actually posted anything on Tumblr of my own creation (I mostly reblog stuff), but I’ve just seen the ending of Supernatural, and given that this is where I’ve been fed my SPN content, it felt right to share my thoughts here. I’m sure nobody is going to read this, but whatever, I just need to get this out of my chest. Sorry in advance if this is too long, but I have to type this out if I want to move on.
I still need to take some time to process everything that’s happened, because it is a lot. I did have my hopes up for the finale, thinking that Cas would at least show up, but like many of the fans, I was let down.
So I guess that would be the first issue I had with the episode. Regardless of what Dean felt towards Cas, if he reciprocated his feelings or not (which he totally did, I mean, we have all been watching the same show for 12 fucking years, and if you don’t believe me, there are plenty of metas that would support this statement), he still is his best friend and it doesn’t sit right with me the fact that he doesn’t even try to find a way to rescue Cas from the Empty. And okay, maybe he didn’t, make Cas got resurrected by Jack, then why the hell wasn’t he on the final episode? He was a pivotal character for the series, I mean, the proof is in the ratings: Season 7, when he was killed off to apparently never return, the ratings were at their lowest. The show may have started as just Dean and Sam, but over the years it became much bigger than them, and it is so disappointing that the show runners failed to acknowledge it. But I’ll get back to this point later.
Okay, I need to talk about Dean’s death, the only part of the episode that made me cry, because my poor baby had to suffer so much! Like, when he started saying that Sam never put up with John’s crap (which reinforces my headcanon that John was abusive towards the boys) and how much he admired him for it, my heart just shattered. I just love Dean Winchester so freaking much, and they did him so dirty... Don’t get me wrong, Jensen and Jared’s acting was 10/10, like, I thought I had a grip of myself and then Sam started crying and tears came back to my eyes. Nonetheless, I felt that the scene was so freaking long! I mean, Dean was dying, and he had time to make a 10 minutes-long speech! C’mon! Also, I get that Sam and Dean’s relationship is quite deep and strong and whatever, but I felt a bit unconformable watching it: it didn’t feel like a brotherly goodbye, more like a lover’s one. They were too touchy and intimate, and, overall, their relationship from this point on was coded as a romantic one, in my opinion. And Chuck, did I hate it! I have an older brother and I know what it is like to be close to your sibling and to love him more than anything else in the world, but the way they portrayed their relationship on this last episode felt incest-y, which makes me believe that this scene was originally written with another character in mind (cough CAS cough) or the writers don’t know the difference between romantic and brotherly love. To finish off, the way they killed off Dean??? I mean, I did expect Dean to die, but this was such a horrible and ridiculous way to go... I would have accepted it if he died actually fighting, but impaled??? After all he’s been through, after fighting so many demons, angels and deities, that’s how he dies??? That just felt cheap and rushed. Dean did not deserve that ending and I refuse to accept it. In fact, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of this whole fucking mess of an episode. Also, I just can’t believe that no one showed up to Dean’s funeral. I just can’t. I get that maybe it was difficult to bring in a lot of actors due to the pandemic, but they could have added them on post-production...
Next, we have Sam’s ending. He quits hunting and finally obtains his white-picket fence life. I did like the fact that he honored all of his friends and family that he lost along the way, especially Dean. Like, yes, if my brother died, I would like to keep a token (don’t know if that’s the actual word for it, my first language is not English), to have something with me that reminded me of him and to have him with me wherever I go. And I did like that he named his son Dean, in honor of his brother. However, we don’t know how he met his wife, we don’t even know who she is. They set up Sameileen for what?? Like, Sam and Eileen deserved better, tbh. And, again, even with Covid restrictions they could have done something to signal that Sam got married to Eileen, you don’t need the actor there. In fact, we never actually found out what happened to her, and just like I can’t believe that Dean didn’t even try to save Cas from the Empty, I can’t believe that Sam didn’t reach out to Eileen. Furthermore, the montage with his son felt cheap and a way to try to appeal to the audience’s emotions... (Btw, as a side note, the grey wig and the glasses, my god, they did Jared dirty 😂😂). But it wasn’t doing it for me, I didn’t care much for the kid, and while I do believe that was always going to be Sam’s ending, I didn’t like how it was executed.
And the worst part of it all: that suuuuuper long scene with Dean driving in Heaven, waiting for Sam. They could have used that time to show something more meaningful, even to develop a bit more Sam’s new life, how he adjusted to domesticity and fatherhood and all that crap. Or, I don’t know, A TEAM FREE WILL 2.0 REUNION??? And I guess this is my biggest issue with the whole episode. I get it, Sam and Dean are the central characters, the ones that started it all, but family don’t end with blood, and they were not the only ones who deserved a goodbye. They had formed so many bonds and friendships over the years, and to not have them address them on the final episode just feels infuriating. Especially Cas. His arc was not finished, he deserved to be on the finale. We never got Dean’s reaction to his confession, we don’t know how he felt about him, nor did Cas get to say goodbye to any other character. How did he get out of the Empty? What is he doing now? Is he still an angel? Also, he gave his life to save Dean, only for Dean to be killed not long after. My headcanon that is helping me cope with Dean’s death is thinking that he was so quick to accept his death because he was hoping to reunite in Heaven with Castiel. A girl can dream, ok??? But also, what about Jack? He is the new God, but I highly doubt it that he won’t drop by the Bunker from time to time, after all, Sam and Dean (AND CAS, ESPECIALLY CAS) raised him. And Charlie? Did she get back with Stevie? Did she and the boys go for drinks from time to time? And Jody? Donna? Claire? Sorry to be so repetitive, but I just can’t understand why the writers thought that these characters weren’t important enough to deserve a spot on the finale, and not just an off-hand mention (and not even all of them got that). Of course, the brothers are the main characters and their goodbye must be the longest and the most emotional of them all, but like I said before, the show stopped being just about the Winchesters on season 3, when Bobby was first introduced, maybe even 4, with Cas.
Overall, the finale left a lot of questions unanswered, most of them regarding secondary characters (but not less important for that!), completely destroyed Sam and Dean’s character development (Dean never got to be free, like he had been fighting for all season, probably all his life; Sam’s development is non-existing, as he ended up as he would’ve if he never had gotten on that hunting trip with Dean 15 years ago), and completely disregarded all the themes they had been setting up this season, probably on previous ones as well. It is sad knowing that the writers, either don’t know the show good enough to give it a proper goodbye, or they just didn’t care to do so. I don’t know who’s to blame here (definitely not the actors, though, probably someone higher up the chain), but I just know that I am so fucking disappointed. I expected more from the last episode of a 15-season TV show, one that has been part of my life for 7 years. I guess, that despite all of it, I can’t hate Supernatural. Maybe I was not a hardcore fan like some people on this site, but I did care for the characters and what happened to them. This is the show that introduced me to the world of shipping (Destiel will always hold a special place in my heart, it doesn’t matter how badly their relationship was treated, as well as the characters) and I got to discover one of my favorite characters, Dean Winchester. He is just such so complex, one that I relate to on so many levels, and his relationship with Cas has been the source of many short stories that I’ve never posted anywhere, but that have made me take up writing again. That’s the reason why I love the show so much, it has helped me tap into my creativeness and go back to writing, a passion of mine that I seem to have forgotten over the years. Anyways, maybe one day I’ll publish some of those stories, and maybe even write my own fix-it fanfic, but right now, I can’t deal with anything that has to do with the show, I am too hurt. Maybe once the five stages of grief are over, I might give it a try and read all of the amazing codas and fanfics that I’m sure will be posted here or on AO3. But for now, Supernatural is dead and gone, and I don’t want to talk nor think about it anymore. I’m done wasting my time here, because I feel like that’s what I’ve been doing this past 7 years after watching this crap of a finale.
To finish this long rant off, I just want to say thank you to some meta-writers, the true heroes of the fandom. Thanks to them, I carried on watching the show, because they made me have hope that things will get better. They are the ones that have made this experience worth something, and even though I’ve never spoken to any of them, I see you and I love you. Thanks for everything ❤.

Note
I've been reading seasons 10 and 11 meta and the finale makes less and less sense to me so yea I'm glad Destiel and Saileen are getting married and living life happy. shrug emoji
Anon friendo, congrats on achieving peace!
Seriously, I’ve been telling people I know who haven’t watched the end yet that for happiness, it’s best to watch through near the end of 15.19. Then you can make your own choices about what happens next.
Let them defeat Chuck. Let them have the full win. And then.... know that whatever you most wanted for all of them, for each of their happiness (not just Sam and Dean, but Jack, Eileen, Cas, Charlie, Stevie, Donna, and everyone else snapped away at the end of 15.18), whatever you were hoping for in the ending, that’s exactly what happens!
Congrats! You have won Supernatural!
If your notions are only kinda-sorta vague, and you regret not being able to see it unfold, there’s an ever-growing variety of fanfic endings being posted daily. At least one of them will hopefully give you some happiness and closure.
And if you accidentally saw the final episode and are finding it difficult to unsee, there’s a number of fix its even for that situation! “It was actually a djinn dream” is one I’ve seen used a few times now. And my personal favorite (because I wrote it) is Becky reading Chuck’s draft of the episode they aired, left by him on her computer, unpublished, before he lost his power. So of course none of it could “become real.” She deletes it and then texts Dean to thank them all again. And Dean tells her “Cas says hi.”
(if you want to read that version, i posted it on the ao3 here.  it’s only 200 words. That’s all it took to fix everything for me.)
Either way, you can choose your own ending. You can choose a different ending every day depending on how you’re feeling! And the show has told us this is valid. It’s OUR story now, and they can’t try to tell us how to engage with it anymore.
And in *my* personal version, everyone actually does get to win. Everyone does get a chance to live a life with free will and the family they’ve built around them.
Sam and Eileen get a dog. Dean gets a proper long vacation with Cas to somewhere he can just sit and watch the sunset with his toes in the sand and finally follow his heart. Charlie and Stevie live a long, happy life of hunting dates and cozy breakfasts. Donna, Jody, and the waywards grow their network, and find they’re more about saving people than hunting things now. Claire and Kaia find happiness and balance together. Garth and the garthlets keep on keeping on, because they were already the happiest dang family on the show.
And for anyone who says “well they could have all of that in Heaven! And that’s forever!” Yeah... that’s the point! In Heaven, choices don’t have consequences. You don’t wake up the next day to new things to deal with. The highs and lows of human emotion and life itself are apparently irrelevant there. Not that I *want* any of these characters to experience suffering, but that’s part of life. And once you’re dead... even in a perfect blissful heaven... it’s not the same as being alive. It’s just not the same, and the show has been pointing it out for years. “But heaven is different now!” yeah... in some basic ways, like the walls being gone and being able to make new memories but like... for there to be no possibility of conflict, or of suffering (which... was what Jack was supposed to bring to it), then there has to be some “drugging” effect in this heaven. Something that prevents people from actually fully being real people, because otherwise you can’t have perfect peace and contentment. So no... not interested in Heaven stories. At all. But if that’s your thing (and not an existential horror like it is to me... there wasn’t really much they could’ve actually done to fix the concept of heaven for me...) then by all means enjoy those too!
It’s just... so freeing to accept the end of canon and wander out into the liberated fields of post-canon life in fandom! Like we all were liberated from Chuck’s story the moment his power was zapped, and we are all now in the Impala driving away from that beach to begin living our real lives. So whatever your preferred headcanon, canon itself has said that’s totally valid.
*something something cry no more*

Thanks for the tag, @madtumbleson 🤩 (So long ago, but finally getting to do this!)
Copy the first few lines of your last ten fics, note any fun observations, then tag a few more friends.
Okay, tagging anyone who wants to do this, but especially @anonthenullifier .
And here we go:
(Including some original stuff from the world of my comic "Tock the Gnome," since I write more of that than fic itself, and WIPs.)
1. "Away with the Faeries"
It hadn't taken long after Jack left Earth to its own devices for Dean to call on him again, to finally ask about Castiel.
He hadn't dared to in front of Sam. He couldn't. How could he tell his brother what had really happened, in that room? As the days had passed, he sometimes caught Sam staring at him (especially when he was just hanging up the phone with Eileen, or heading out to meet her) and he thought, maybe, he had figured it out anyway. But he never said anything. And Dean, afraid, had let it drop.
2. "Untitled" (Destiel wedding 2/14/21)
It's 3am the morning of his wedding and Dean Winchester can't sleep.
He's staying at Bobby's, along with Jody, Donna and their girls, including Claire (Charlie's with Cas over at Kelly Kline's place). Though Cas had wanted Claire to stay with him, she insisted on playing guard duty for "the old man," just in case he tried to sneak over and ruin tradition by spending their last single night together.
3. "Asphodel" (WIP, from "Tock the Gnome")
It was raining outside the morning they found out their mother had passed. Though - safe and dry inside the mountain - the brothers Sprizzenfritz didn't know that.
The news came in a bulletin of information from the Crown. Policy changes, events upcoming.
The passing of important individuals.
They hadn't even known that she'd married a lord after she left them.
4. "Silence" (WIP, inspired by WandaVision)
Carol was the first person Maria had called when it happened. Of course she was - who else would understand, who else might know why her daughter had fallen into dust before her eyes?
The special pager she'd given her - shortly after she'd come back to them, much earlier in their marriage - rang through several times (blipping that starry sigil she'd taken to wearing, as usual), then went dark. A few moments later, two lines of text appeared on the screen - "Stay put. On my way."
5. "Mistletoe"
Tock had spent the last few weeks watching Onna, trying to suss out what she liked.
The crew now gathered - warrior, mage, unexpected rogue -  they were on their way. Having adventures, finding what guidance they could to locate the legendary island. Peacenight-time itself was approaching (the whole endeavor was taking a bit longer than she'd expected, honestly). And with more time searching, the entire crew had become closer.
Including herself and the strong, stoic (gorgeous) warrior.
6. "Hoist"
The crew of the Bucket was getting tired. They'd been travelling nearly a month without a break, and though their supplies would last them another week and a half if they were careful..... they all found - by silent agreement - that they weren't willing to wait that long.
So when Actia spotted a nearby forest with a grey-sanded beach not too far in the distance, it was decided they would take rest and see what they could find there.
7. "Onna e O'tuhgraugh"
As the sun finally crested over the treeline beyond the camp, and she heard the small sounds of the clan beginning to stir into wakefulness, Onna snapped again to attention. Since waking from her dream and choosing to wait, she'd fallen into a kind of trance.
Someone would be coming for her, and soon.
8. "After"
Dean Winchester didn’t know what he expected things to be like, after something finally got him, for good. But he certainly didn’t expect this peace. This hope, welling up inside of him.
Sammy left him on the bridge after a while, walking back the same direction Dean had driven. He was content in what his brother had told him about the afterlife and that Eileen would be waiting for him nearby. He told Dean he had to let her know their kid – Dean junior, of all freaking things – was okay. Of course Dean the first had understood and trusted the road to get Sam where he needed to go. Space seemed to work differently here, just like time did. So what Bobby had said, about them all being close, Dean just knew that meant her too.
Near like all their family was now…but not quite.
9. "Onna and the Faerie Door"
Falling asleep against the rough hide of a Hogdragon was nothing new to Onna. She had been thrown in the sty often enough, growing up, that she'd had plenty of time to bond with them. They'd even remembered her when she returned from her time.... away.... As hard as she'd try to keep from such punishments.
She grunted, trying not to think of that, and tucked herself more snugly into the matron Hogdragon's side. Eyes clenched shut, she felt the creature's tail curl around her protectively, and smiled.
10. "Recovering Lacey"
Belle sat down in her chair, took a deep breath, and opened the cover with one slow and careful motion.
The book had been sitting in the desk drawer, now hers. It wasn’t long after Regina’s departure that Storybrooke had been left in her care. Those first few days, and the weeks that had followed, had felt like months. She hadn’t been under pressure like this since the Ogres attacked her town so many years ago.
Observations:
Seems I like to try to establish tone with details in quick bursts 🤔 And just run from there. No time wasted (or at least I hope not).
I'm finding also, as I read these all together, that I like the way these start. So yay for that. I hope that means that what I've intended with the tone and detail work - getting you right in the story right away, instead of easing you into it! - is effective.
I know I'm not for everyone, but at least I'm for me 💖

Why dont u like 15x20? Full explanation please haha akkhckskf
Wow you just like playing with fire huh well dear since you asked:
Cw: su!cide, mental illness
1) Destiel aside, it was really ooc for Dean to just be like “yeah it sucks that Cas and Jack aren’t here but you know you just gotta move on :/”. We’ve seen how he reacts when someone close to him passes away, whether it’s Sam and he overdoses on medicine (Red Meat) or sells his soul, or it’s Cas and he drinks excessively and generally gets extremely depressed. Being all cheery and talking about moving on is not only a red flag for someone contemplating suicide, it’s just so out of character for Dean.
2) The blurry wife. Um. Really. I know it was meant so it was “open for interpretation” but that’s really just a fancy way of excusing misogyny.
3) The wig. If you’re going to give Sam that ending, at least do it respectably. Sam’s ending was alright, in theory, but the way it was done by making his wife blurry and naming his son Dean and the whole montage was just ridiculous imo. If they showed it better it would’ve been okay.
4)The fact that when Sam died he was surrounded by pictures of his blood family. No Cas, no Jack, hell, no pictures of his blurry wife that he loved so dearly. For a show that had a main message of “family don’t end in blood,” that was a crappy way to end Sam’s character.
5) Dean has been suicidal for a long time, and killing him off when he’s finally “happy” isn’t giving him peace or giving him the ending he wanted. If you’re going to go ahead and say that he’s gotten over Cas’s death and Jack’s absence, fine, but that would mean that Dean was content with his life. Why would he want to die when he’s happy and free? He canonically had a job application on his desk, so it’s clear that he didn’t want to go just yet, and even if he did, he wanted to at least get another shot at normal. This isn’t The Good Place where a character chooses to die when they’re happiest and at peace, this is Earth and that is not a message you want to send to human beings who are alive right now. It’s not like Dean was 90 years old and had enough of life, he was in his 40s. Who knows what could’ve happened if he had gotten the chance to live the way he wanted. And also just... a nail to the back, really, wooow. Plus Sam totally could have prayed to Jack to save him, so there were definitely ways to prevent Dean’s death and simply choosing not to use those options was ooc and sends a bad message to all people struggling with mental illness.
6) Agent Bon Jovi. Yes the idea was cool and all but come on they could’ve chosen a name that doesn’t sound funny. It killed the mood.
7) If you really think the plot of the finale was good, sure, you’re entitled to your opinion. But really take a look and think about the way it was done. The whole thing was 3 montages, a death scene, and a monster of the week plot line. I know the motw thing is their classic go-to, but for a finale I just expected something more. Also let’s not forget how they played carry on wayward son and then IMMEDIATELY followed with a COVER of carry on wayward son. Please-
8) Also following up on the Dean dying thing: Dean canonically, explicitly, wanted a big funeral with “open bar, choir, Sabbath cover band, and Gary Busey reading the eulogy.” Sure, he was joking around a bit when he said that, but it was a hyperbole, an exaggeration, which means that he stretched what he meant to say, and he did want a funeral that was still meaningful and cool. What did he get? His brother and dog watching miserably as his body burns. It’s not like there weren’t friends of his that were still alive and able to come say goodbye. Do people really think Claire, Garth, Eileen, Jody, Donna, and more wouldn’t want to attend Dean Winchester’s funeral?? At the very LEAST they could’ve had Jack come down from Heaven for a few moments.
9) Not really the finale but it’s continued from 15x19: A TODDLER IS GOD. Jack should’ve had the chance to be a kid. Despite his appearances and powers, he’s still new to the world. He’ll make mistakes, just like he did before he was god, but those mistakes will have even greater consequences. I know that was where the story was going and there wasn’t really a way around it, but it just leaves a bitter taste.
10) Not even for destiel reasons, but just the fact that Dean didn’t even talk about Cas’s death. Even if he told Sam about it and said he doesn’t reciprocate those feelings, at least he would have said SOMETHING. “He saved me” isn’t enough, I’m sorry. That’s the reason Cas’s death fits the bury your gays trope; not because Cas came out and died, but because he was practically erased after that.
11) The lack of characters. Go ahead and claim corona restrictions all damn day, there was still a shot at the end with the entire cast and crew smushed together on a bridge. Mask-less. I’m sure there were a few actors who would’ve felt comfortable enough to be in the finale. If schools are able to be open with thousands of kids spreading germs everywhere and endangering each other as well as the teachers, then a show can have like 3 people added to the set for a few scenes.
12) John is with Bobby and Dean in heaven?? THEE abusive John Winchester?? You really think Dean will feel safe with his abusive father right around the corner?? You really think SAM is happy about that?? Bobby wouldn’t stand for that either! They tried to redeem John and his behavior, and that’s honestly inexcusable, that man has no right to be anywhere near those boys.
13) 15 years of character development? I don’t know her <3
14) Bringing back Jenny was pointless I’m sorry it really was, I didn’t even remember her and they killed her off 0.2 seconds after revealing her. I-
15) Might I add that if only 30% of your audience enjoys the finale, you aren’t doing your job correctly lmao
So yeah. If you’d like me to elaborate on any of these points feel free to send me an ask, dm me, or reply to this post. If you’d like to argue with me, feel free to do that too.

Cas doesn’t spend a lot of time in cars these days. Since his wings got fixed up, he hasn’t needed to wander the slow path as a weary traveller, preferring to use his time more efficiently by appearing wherever he needed to be. But if Dean ever asks him to ride along, he still says yes, no hesitation.
Dean was heading North to meet up with Sam, on his way back from a hunt out West, and when he ran into Cas in the bunker on his way to the garage he’d asked if he wanted to tag along – ‘get some fresh air’ – he’d said. So, here Cas was on the passenger side of the black leather bench seat, watching the atoms of the Earth fly by his window.
“There a parade I’m missing?” Dean grunted, flicking to a new radio station when their current pick started to grow too static-y to be tolerable.
“There’s a flock of geese being followed by a flock of smaller birds flying south,” Cas observed sagely, a pleasant smile on his face. “You might think they’re using the geese for directions, but actually all birds are instinctually programmed to fly in a southern trajectory at this time of year.”
“Hm,” Dean hummed, seeming only begrudgingly interested.
“Though,” Cas’ voice cut short as a new train of thought beckoned him along, “if we were in the Southern Hemisphere, the birds would have an instinct to fly north. So I suppose, it’s not so much the cardinal direction they’re flying in, just that they know where they need to fly to.”
“Yeah,” Dean huffed, flicking the radio again and again, dissatisfied with the selection that was coming up, “where’s that, Cas?”
“Home.” Cas answered without elaboration, and returned to smiling at the geese, leaving Dean to watch the back of his head with a blank expression.
Tumblr media
Cas didn’t need to sleep, but Dean did; and when Sam called to say he’d stopped at Jody’s to crash for the night, Dean and Cas weren’t anywhere near Sioux Falls.
“Yeah, okay,” Cas heard Dean say down the phone. “Yeah, we’ll catch you tomorrow around –” Dean glanced at Cas to catch his eye. Cas gave a quick silent nod, knowing what Dean was asking, and knowing Dean would understand his answer. “Hey, if Claire’s there, tell her Cas says hi.” Dean nodded again listening to Sam. “Yeah, okay, see you in the mañana.”
“How is Sam?” Cas questioned his companion.
“Peachy,” Dean scoffed.
“Will we be stopping for the night as well?
“Yeah eventually,” Dean shrugged and fought back a yawn that Cas didn’t miss. “I got a few more miles in me.” Dean changed the radio dial again. “God, radio in the Midwest sucks ass.”
“If you’d prefer, I have...” Cas trailed off and started to grope in the pockets of his trench coat.
“You about to flash me or something, Cas?” Dean side-eyed him. Cas pulled a dingy white cassette tape with a peeling label from one of his pockets.
“I have this,” Cas held out the tape in offering. It was the mixtape Dean had given him of his ‘Top 13 Zepp Trax’. He saw Dean’s eyes widen in the flash of headlights passing them on the country highway. “To be clear,” Cas closed his hand around the tape, recoiling, “I am not giving it back to you, I am just offering an alternative to the radio for the rest of the drive.”
Dean nodded speechlessly, something behind his eyes that Cas was familiar seeing but that he could never really identify. His fingers dragged along Cas’ palm when they retrieved the cassette, drawing unnecessarily across the whole length of his hand. Cas felt the familiar heat flood from his fingers up his arm and to his chest, wrapping his heart in glowing bands that constricted more and more tightly every time Dean touched him like this – mindlessly, casually, devoid of meaning.
Dean put the tape in and turned up the volume on the opening chords of Good Times, Bad Times. Cas was surprised to see his hand drop to the cushion of the seat between them, rather than return to the wheel. He stared at the offending fingers as if the burn they had given him was physical and not metaphorical, as if his body, and not just his heart, was on fire.
Cas pulled at his tie enough to undo his top button, and he noticed Dean glancing at him before flicking his eyes back to the road. Curiosity stirred, as Dean so frequently stirs it, he fumbled in his mind for something else to do that might give him another reaction of Dean’s to analyse. He started to tug his trench coat off his shoulders, it had been feeling uncomfortably warm since Dean had touched his hand anyhow and he’s pleased when Dean immediately registers his movement and turns towards him questioningly.
“When’s the last time you took that thing off?” Dean asked incredulously, now watching Cas rather than the road, only sparing the necessary glances to the highway in order to keep them in their lane. Cas catalogued the response, noting positively that his removing an item of clothing had more or less gained Dean’s undivided attention.
“I was beginning to feel warm,” Cas stated simply, not answering Dean’s question.
Pulling out of one sleeve and then the next, Cas realized he hadn’t thought beyond this point and now didn’t know what to do with his coat. In his internal scramble, his hands unconsciously balled up the khaki cotton and set it in the space between Dean and himself, forgetting that Dean’s hand already occupied that space.
When Cas’ hand landed on Dean’s they both blanched as if they’d been shocked, and their eyes locked in trepidation over the expanse of black leather and beige cloth between them. The opening notes of Stairway to Heaven bled through the Impala’s speakers and sank into the air, its tension thickening with each passing measure. Cas carefully set his hand atop his coat, noticeably and intentionally encroaching on Dean’s space. Dean’s hands were back on the wheel.
“Did you put this song on the tape with the intention of mocking me?” Cas asked Dean flatly, hoping his sarcasm was readable. Dean flashed him a confused look, spared another glance at Cas’ hand between them on the seat, then focused back on the road.
“I uh, I wasn’t trying to poke fun at you, man,” Dean shifted in his seat uncomfortably. “I mean, I didn’t actually uh, make, the tape for you, it was one of my old ones.”
“So, you don’t consider me a good enough friend to make a mixed tape for?” Cas kept his voice even but had to fight to keep his lips from twitching in a smirk.
“What, no!” Dean looked at Cas, offended, but then back tracked realising his words could get mis-interpreted. “No, I mean, you’re my best friend Cas, of course I would make you a tape I just - I gave you this one because it was one of my favourites. That’s why I thought you’d like it, I mean…” Dean swallowed awkwardly, looking back at Cas, likely checking he was getting through.
“So, you thought I would be interested in learning about your favourite things?” Cas prodded.
“Yes,” Dean nodded, eyes now very firmly back on the highway, and not on his best friend.
“Because you imagine I would like to know everything about you,” Cas fought to keep from smiling, “because you’re so interesting.”
“Yes - no! No that’s not what I -”
“So, it’s because you want me to know what you like so I can be a better friend?”
“What? No, Cas, that’s not-” Dean broke off when he looked at Cas and saw the wide smile he was sporting. “What?”
“I believe you humans call it a ‘joke’, Dean.” Cas tried to keep his voice emotionless, but his amusement was bubbling through.
“You winged dick,” Dean punched him on the arm and dropped his hand into the space between them, settled on top of Cas’ coat and right next to Cas’ own hand. Cas smiled triumphantly to himself.
“Sam said I needed to practice my sarcasm.”
“Yeah, well,” Dean huffed and knocked Cas’ arm again, “you suck, man.”
“Thank you.” Cas grinned brightly at Dean and earned a crinkled smile back that reached Dean’s eyes in a way Cas very rarely saw these days.
Stairway to Heaven faded into a few moments of static, and Dean held Cas’ gaze in the silence, not needing to look at the straight abandoned road in front of them to keep the Impala on course. Rhythmic drums started up, echoing through the bass speakers and propelling vibrations through the seats and into each of their bodies. The wavering, wild west notes of When the Levee Breaks rang out, and Dean reached forward to turn the volume up. When his hand returned to the space between him and Cas, their fingers were closer than they’d been a moment ago. Dean’s gaze was back to being fixed firmly forward.
Cas copied him, staring forward, and sinking into the music and stealing himself. He took his chance when the Impala sped over a pothole and knocked his fingers against Dean’s. Dean didn’t move, gaze still focused ahead. Cas hooked the tip of his little finger under Dean’s. Dean didn’t stop him.
Going down, going down now,
Going down, going down down down down down….
“Dean.” Cas stared ahead, but he could see Dean swallow thickly in his periphery. “Pull over.”

Cas is an immortal being, an incalculable number of years old, and he can remember every one of those years. But his life since he found Dean Winchester has been a blur, and the contents of the past few minutes escaped his memory entirely. All he knew is that the levee had broken, and now Dean was shirtless and on top of him in the front seat of the Impala, and all he cared about was making sure Dean never stopped kissing him.
The burning feeling that had grown at home in his chest had erupted through his whole body, and the places Dean trailed his fingers left Cas scorching. He wouldn’t be surprised if he found Dean’s handprint burned into his flesh tomorrow.
“Cas,” Dean moaned his name, and Cas felt his hands on his belt. Cas shoved himself out of his suit trousers under Dean and watched intently as Dean’s hands went to his own belt. The buckle clattered against the dashboard as Dean tugged at it violently and wriggled out of his jeans, less than gracefully.
Cas reached out and pulled Dean back to him, tangling their legs in an effort to feel every new inch of Dean at once. He trailed his hands down his arms, his back, his waist, hesitated over the curve of flesh that had teased him for so long, but then dragged his palms over the soft round of Dean’s ass and groaned, not believing how much better this felt than imagining it.
Dean echoed Cas, groaning into his mouth as Cas’ lip was sucked into his mouth and worried between his teeth. Cas shuddered and jerked his body into Dean’s involuntarily, dragging their cocks against one another.
“Fuck,” Dean whispered.
“I thought we were,” Cas deadpanned, testing his sarcasm to its limit. It was hard to maintain composure when Dean Winchester was mostly naked and grinding into you.
“Not quite yet sunshine,” Dean grinned before his face fell, only slightly. “This, I mean, it’s your first time, right?” Dean’s nerves were suddenly tangible in the cramped space of the front of his car.
“This is my first encounter with another male’s genitalia, yes,” Cas confirmed, hoping to ease Dean’s worry; they would both be new to this. What he got was Dean bursting into laughter.
“Jesus, Cas, just call it a cock, okay?” Dean pressed kisses against Cas’ neck, still laughing.
“Fine,” Cas grunted and pulled Dean up for a bruising kiss. “Then, would you please put your cock in my ass?” Cas spoke the words into Dean’s lips. Dean nodded, dumbstruck, but Cas could see the arousal he had stirred in Dean’s eyes.
“Good.”
