Round 3, Match 3: Quan Yizhen vs Sakura Matou

Match 3 is between Quan Yizhen (shixiong: Yin Yu) from Heaven Official's Blessing vs Sakura Matou (shixiong: Shirou Emiya) from Fate/Stay Night

Quan Yizhen:

Obsessed with his shixiong, much to said shixiong's chagrin. Someone who's a proper quanyin shipper can write better propaganda, but I just know he belongs here

Well, okay. So Quan Yizhen was originally a street kid that was taken in as a disciple by the sect master at Yin Yu's (the shixiong in question) request because he was impressed by Yizhen's potential. But all the other disciples hated Quan Yizhen's guts due to a mix of his utter inability to read social cues and envy towards his raw talent, only Yin Yu was nice to him which is why Quan Yizhen's obsession with his shixiong took off. Yin Yu is the only person Quan Yizhen cares for.

Eventually his cultivation led Yin Yu to ascend to godhood and he took Quan Yizhen to heaven with him as a deputy god because he knew he couldn't leave him alone. Quan Yizhen doesn't care about prestige, he only cares about martial arts and shixiong, so he asks Yin Yu if they can't go back and if ascension is really that great to which Yin Yu replies to give it a try: Quan Yizhen does and actually ascends as a proper god.

However because Quan Yizhen is so naturally talented he quickly came to eclipse Yin Yu, which he didn't even realize because, again, he has zero social skills. This festered resentment in Yin Yu who eventually exploded and told Quan Yizhen to go kill himself... while Yizhen was wearing a robe that made him follow all fo Yin Yu's commands, so he almost does kill himself. He was stopped and Yin Yu was thrown out of heaven.

But!!! Quan Yizhen doesn't care about any of that! He still wants to meet his shixiong and is sure it was all a misunderstanding. Quan Yizhen actually beats up his own devotees if they trash talk his shixiong, nevermind that as a god his existance is dependant on said devotees. But he doesn't care about that! He only became a god because of shixiong.

When he finally meets his shixiong again, he recognizes him by Yin Yu's mannerism despite Yin Yu wearing a mask. Yin Yu hits him on the head with a shovel and he still doesn't care!! Quan Yizhen still follows his shixiong like a loyal puppy. When later Yin Yu dies trying to protect him Quan Yizhen cries and apologizes for not being able to protect him despite only being good for fighting. Quan Yizhen carries his shixiong's corpse all the way while heaven if falling apart. The last chapter implies Quan Yizhen is trying to nurture Yin Yu's soul to get him back and in the post-canon extras Yin Yu makes a cameo. So Quan Yizhen was succesful!! Death can't take him from his shixiong!

Sakura Matou:

She has been experimented on, tortured and abused since she was a child, a character broke down after experiencing a single day in Sakura's life. Literally her only lifeline in this world is her senpai Shirou, whom she fell in love with because of his determination. She visited his house every day to help with chores to the point Shirou gave her a key. She is only happy when she's with her senpai, any other time she's gloomy and people avoid her.

In her route she sleeps with Shirou (making her an actual senpai fucker) in an act that reclaims her agency over her body. Also on this route, she's being possessed by All The World's Evil and if Shirou agrees that is best to kill her, Sakura completely gives up and lets herself be killed. But if Shirou doesn’t agree she fights to stay alive despite her massive suicidal ideation, but this also make her emotions more unstable, eventually leading her to be fully corrupted and she turns completely yandere over Shirou. Eventually Shirou saves her at the cost of his body and Sakura resolves to wait for her senpai. In the true ending they get to have a life together, in the normal ending Sakura would wait for him her whole living, still living at his home and planting flowers.

Please please vote for my girl, she has suffered more than anyone and she loves Shiro so so much.

yin yu appreciation hours 🌙

someone said yin yu’s whole trait was whining about wanting to be a god and since i’d defend him with my dying breath here i go ahem

‼️ spoilers for printed book 7 ‼️

he wanted to be good enough to be a god, and he was. but he wasn’t “really” good enough to stay a god, and he wasn’t good enough to be able to enter the hall of divine might, so he felt his shortcomings.

if he couldn’t be good enough to be the best kind of god, he wanted to be the best kind of person, the best kind of shixiong. he wanted to be happy for quan yizhen and encourage him, but he couldn’t do that either, and he felt his shortcomings again.

“if i wasn’t destined to be perfect, i at least wanted to be perfectly kind. but… i couldn’t do that.”

this isn’t yin yu “whining” about not being able to be a god. it’s him accepting that it wasn’t in his fate to be a god and to be as powerful and as talented as quan yizhen. it’s him acknowledging that he should’ve contented himself with his lot in life. but it’s hard to content yourself with sitting amongst clouds when you were reaching for the stars.

yet the thing that’s most important, and what he never realized, was that he did do his best, and he wasn’t a terrible person.

in the end, he was offered godhood on a silver platter. if his personality truly had been simply whining about how much he desired godhood, he would’ve taken it. but he didn’t, he knew this wasn’t how he wanted things to end, he knew he really hadn’t earned it.

in the end, he sacrificed himself for someone else. someone he claimed to resent and despise, someone who was technically the cause of his downfall. he did it because he was, despite everything, good. he wasn’t a bad person.

so yeah, a lot of what makes yin yu who he is is the fact that he works hard and wants to be worthy. i think that maybe part of why he avoided quan yizhen is because he didn’t want to know that qyz had forgiven him. because he didn’t think he deserved that forgiveness.

he doesn’t just want things. he wants to know he deserved them as well.

I CANT. REMEMBER A LOT OF WHAT I PUT CUZ I ACCIDENTALY DELETED MY OG POST BUT IM PRAYING TO GOD THE VIBE IS THE SAME. i yapped a lot but the moral of this whole yap session is that i love yin yu and i believe he was a beautifully written and genuinely complex character, despite the fact that we don’t see a lot of him.

AIGHT ive been thinking about the calamity!yin yu au bc im disgustingly brainrotted and all the holes in my brain are being filled with mxtx ship thoughts.

ANYWAY

calamity! yin yu who simultaneously finds quan yizhen breathtaking and is proud of him and truly, genuinely, fundamentally also HATES him. But then stuff happens, character development, trauma, tragedy etc etc and we see it all unfold into yin yu's self disgust and his stengthening belief that his ability to hate someone like quan yizhen is evidence of his disgraceful nature so that hatred turns inward and the rest to exhausted resignation and theres a dynamic betwen the two of them thats moving from yin yu hating-loving qyz to apathy and self hatred and qyz moving from his immature affection of 'i want you to like me' to taking some initiative in 'i want to love you and to do so is to show you the you that saved me/made me who i am' like. for the love of god. they need an arc that brings them together in such a way that they both grow and benefit, in a ways thats natural and doesnt undercut the truth of yin yu's envy and resentment and qyz's wilful ignorance of yinyu's needs and emotions as an individual who doesnt exist just to give and be kind.

like. listen. im not here to give just one of them an arc. yinyu is going to have all his self hatred and envy and awful emotions and work through them to find the love he already holds for qyz and then LET QYZ LOVE HIM IN RETURN.

But I also need QYZ to have the realisation that love is a verb. It's something you do for other people. Yin yu isn't the perfect untouchable, endlessly kind shixiong who gave him the life he has and to whom qyz has little to nothing to offer. Bc Yin yu doesn't love himself, qyz has to do it for him. (yeah im giving them a 'let me hang out in your lair while youre having this mental breakdown and recovering from injuries and let me help you' arc)

I still have a lot of deets to work out but it's precanon divergence in which Yin Yu descends, wants to die, becomes a ghostly ex god that no one in the heavens wants to acknowledge bc it would mean admitting he's one of theirs.

qyz just wants him to stop doing these horrible things because even if you want revenge, it's not something shixiong would want if he were in his right mind and thinking like he usually does.

Yin Yu does want revenge. So he's bitter, so what. but it's not what he's doing. not really. destroying the things left in the world that serve as evidence of his existence just conveniently happens to double as vengeance. Whether it's vengeance against others or vengeance against himself is unclear. salvation is unachievable for someone like him, but he's always been good at self-sabotage. whats a step further into self-annihilation.

(also because if ur so close to someone, ur nosy abt their business because it also becomes your business) I WANTED TO CONVEY THAT CLOSENESS FROM THE VERY FIRST LINE

he xuan scene

canonically, he xuan would NEVER. bc 1) he's too lost in his own ways to ask for advice and 2) it would fuck with his earth master disguise too much. but since it's the other universe!!!! I CAN DO WHAT I WANT.

my favourite freaking line can you tell? IT SHOWS THEIR ABILITY TO ROOT FOR ONE ANOTHER. SHOWS EMPATHY. SHOWS LOVE. ("my heart is so full it could burst") THE RECALL TO THE MORNING THEY WOKE UP TOGETHER, REMINDING YOU OF DOMESTICITY AND SIMPLICITY AND TRUST AND CLOSENESS.

ONE SHARED PAST; ONE SHARED FUTURE ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? this is all i ever wanted for them. to be able to grow together and live together and die together. TO HAVE A SHARED PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.

this line is also loaded to me bc i once wrote a fic called "entangled pasts; estranged future" that wasnt good enough to be posted but GOD IT REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF IT

i dont like how i worded this but IT NEEDED TO BE SAID. You dont have to answer if you dont want. But i stumbled upon an old post about Mu Qing up holding classism and that its Hua Cheng should be the face for it and i just felt conflicted? I tried to be open minded. And the big example they used is him kicking out of the army which imo kinda odd… to say.. But its combined with the fact Mu Qing called Hua Cheng a liar and he obviously didnt want Hua Cheng tagging along and he let Feng Xin with a broken arm carrying Hua Cheng . tbh, im fine with open intrepretation of that.

We all know Mu Qing doesnt have soft personality and hes prickly. I definitely do think in that liar scene, i saw it more as Mu Qing just being truthful than empathatic as he analyze the situation which i guess fine, MQ theres obviously time and place for that as hes scared and dirty. But even if his family condition was bad, based on how someone fixed up his clothes he could have thought he might at least have another person who does care which was why he even mentioned it in the first place. Anything is possible after all. Although, i did get confused whether did he know the info background on him because XL did overhear the mean things the kids yell at him about him being kicked our. Anyways, it wasnt as he was like no this kid cant stay. Unless theres a line that i missed. And he did try to carry Hong Er but hong er wouldnt let him which he did show hesitation to do it or not afterwards.

And how i view the army situation is even though it is indeed that youth dying rate is higher in war and Hua Cheng did die lol. But its also mixed with Mu Qing’s need to not want to be replaced. This man’s mind never rest lol. Which i get it. Hes very interesting for that. After all, his core character is all about being a survivor. But to say that he upholds classism is fucking deranged. Like Guoshi is right there for ruining his mortal life lol. Funny enough, they certainly dont mention about Feng xin (though hes in rage as Mq was frustrated and being rude with xl but still that was uncalled for) who reminded him to know his place. I brought FX up because in one of the comments of that post they were saying at least FX acted with good will. Lol okay. We definitely can see you not being genuine about the topic. At least be consistent.

And Hua Cheng beats classism by creating another system of his own? ive seen people say its different in ghost City as its really based on mutual beneficial agreement and all especially with Yin Yu. But my guy…. ..you mean him as the King? Bruh its not as simple as that 😭 The heaven is indeed full of classist Gods which is why they look down on LW and MQ and QYZ. But the system to get there isnt, as long as you have the abilities, hard work and luck. Idk like feel free to talk about Hua Cheng overcoming society classism and rise to the top and all. But i find that answer to be so simplisitic and not well thought out?

Also he isnt mentioned alot with that Topic because his narrative isnt strongly focused on that??? Its very clear hes about devotion to his God and the strength he does to be the best so he can take care of Xie Lian. And hes the main character too at that 😭 take it up with MXTX for making Mu Qing a side character, story to strongly ties around it. His insecurity is because of that too.

And the funniest part imo is to Hua Cheng, his insecurity is his appearance - i mean u can still make an argument that is rooted in him being born under a bad star and the classism that he faces over it. But still. Similar at its core but different hurt.

But how do you feel about the revision on him kicking out Hong’er because of guoshi words thaf hes a misfortune that will bring bad luck to XL? That i would like to know.

I think I know what post you're talking about, and I agree with you. The argument that Hua Cheng is the one who "fought" classism and that Mu Qing is upholding in it doesn't stand, in my opinion. First of all, because Hua Cheng's supposed victory over classism doesn't even take place in the world of the living, and Ghost City is everything but an egalitarian place. Which isn't his fault, of course, because a single person cannot change the world. Then, again, his plot in the novel doesn't mainly revolve around classism the same way Mu Qing's does. I'd say that his plot is more about marginalisation and abuse, even if social class was obviously a fundamental part of his condition.

Regarding Mu Qing, literally, unless he somehow became a revolutionary leader, what could he even do? He had one chance to get away from misery and he took it. Gods are not allowed to interfere with the mortal world more than what concerns their duties toward their worshippers. The heavens are a classist world, because they reflect the human world, since all gods used to be human, but I see no instance where Mu Qing even remotely upheld classism. A good part of his lines are specifically to complain about how others are classist, so it really doesn't make any sense. I think that the issue of Hong'er being kicked out of the army has an ambiguity, and the desire to keep a child (who by the way didn't have the age to be in the army) far from war, and his fear of being replaced and possible jealousy, coexist. Human emotions aren't a mono-dimensional thing.

I don't really have an opinion about the revised version, but having read the first version years ago, I'm more attached to it.

btw don't get me wrong, personally i don't think this sinks quanyin as a ship but instead makes it even more complex and angsty. it doesn't mean that yy hates qyz more than anything in his life. those memories are the events leading up to yy's banishment, which he is deeply ashamed of. imo it's just that yy thinks his problems started with qyz bc qyz represents the reminder of a lot of things for yy:

that yy will never be good enough no matter what he does or how hard he tries (which is not true but yy believes so), that yy will never become a strong god like what he's wanted his whole life, that yy was never meant to be anything remarkable. that yy failed to be kind and virtuous bc he lost control of his emotions once and gave into his resentment and it caused him to be banished and to lose everything. yy believes that everything started with qyz but imo it's yy's own insecurities that haunt him.

and yy feels so tormented by qyz and yet he still chose to save him and die for him! the homoeroticism of never feeling good enough standing next to the one guy to whom you were always the whole world! tormented by the one guy who outshone you but who always saw you as the brightest thing in the whole sky!

new quanyin or yin yu crumbs/changes in the revised tgcf novel:

a new/modified scene where QYZ is riding a boar spirit and yells "Shixiong!" chasing after YY who runs away from him (read a translation here by falin_tgcf)

instead of the quanyin flashback happening bc HC simply shows it to XL, it now happens bc a mountain demon tried to swallow yin yu's consciousness whole. HC casts a butterfly dream spell on YY so that hualian can enter YY's consciousness to see if there's a way to wake him up. they then enter YY's dream where he's dreaming of his memories of meeting QYZ up to YY's banishment (i.e. the same quanyin flashback scenes in the original novel).

YY's memories are now expanded a bit and we get to see the scene of young YY going to his Sect Leader Shibo to ask him to take in 10 year old QYZ as a disciple of their sect. Sect Leader Shibo says that they should consult the sect Leader Shizun. YY says "With sect Leader Shizun's temperament, it will be hard to get him to agree. However, Shizun is willing to listen to you about everything..." Shibo agrees to ask the Shizun to take QYZ in. (**In this dream, HC and XL ended up in the roles of YY's Shizun and Shibo, who are co-sect leaders)

In the original novel, the quanyin flashback ended with XL asking HC to stop the flashback. In the revised version, the flashback now ends with this same scene of YY screaming at Jian Yu to stop reminding him of his QYZ grievances (it's the same scream at the end of the quanyin flashback) - except that his anguished scream is strong enough to break him free from the mountain demon's hold*.

(*btw, Hua Cheng said earlier on that to avoid one's consciousness being swallowed by the mountain demon, one has to focus on one's most painful/bad memories in order to wake up,, so it's implied that YY's memories of the events from meeting QYZ up to YY's banishment are his most painful memories... 😭😭😭)

TGCF Book 3 Reaction pt.3 - Wind Master’s Self-Designated Quest & The Events that Happen After

I am back again with reactions & comments for when I read book 3.

This is honestly fun for me because I can look back at what I read and remember my first reaction to everything. I can also see how things connect to make up each arc by going back and reading them.

I really want to start book 4, but completing this first so I compose myself and not be a mess of emotions reading it. Cause, any book that is mainly about Xie Lian’s past is bound to be filled with angst and possible tears for the guy.

Ch 102: The Love for All Seasons Stew, the stew Xie Lian made and Shi Qingxuan is enthusiastically wanting to try some, shares with Ming Yi. Hua Cheng eats it like nothing and gives Xie Lian feedback

- Me: Ah, RIP Shi Qingxuan and Ming Yi. It was nice knowing you two.

Start of the Venerable of Empty Words

Ch 103: The stew knocks out Ming Yi and sends Shi Qingxuan to tears. Then Shi Qingxuan hallucinates

- Me: You know, by this point Xie Lian should have his own warning label to prevent this from happening in the future. What if he made something for Jun Wu and kills him with his cooking? Actually, that sounds pretty funny. This just in: Heavenly Emperor Jun Wu defeated by a plate of questionable food made by his favorite Heavenly Official, Xie Lian.

103: Shi Qingxuan tells a horror story. Xie Lian feels a cold breeze and discovers it’s made by SQX.

- Ah, I think I’m understanding more that Heavenly Officials are really eccentric. Especially the upper court.

Xie Lian casually mentioning he has encountered a Venerable of Empty Words in the past and how that ghost left him after staying with the fallen god for almost a year.

- Me: *sobs* Xie Lian.

Wind Master talking about his past before ascension and then post ascension

- Me: Okay, but did you actually ascend?

Learns about Heavenly Calamities

- Me: Well, that will surely be relevant in the future.

105: Investigating for the Ghost. Learns that from a tampered list that Hua Cheng killed vengeful, malevolent tyrants

- Me: Hua Cheng, who else have you killed? How the fu-dge is it that you are more productive than Heavenly Officials in making sure nothing bad happens?

As the group was going to leave, Xie Lian remembers the kids (& Qi Rong).

Hua Cheng: I have already called a babysitter. Don’t worry about a thing Gege.

106: The group was teleported to the wrong place.

- Me: Well, aren’t things starting out just lovely.

Hua Cheng changed clothes and Xie Lian Noticed.

Hua Cheng & Xie Lian exchange verbal communication passwords. Hua Cheng’s password has Xie Lian blushing.

- Me: WHAT IS IT?

Xie Lian’s password: “Just recite the Ethics Sutra a thousand times.”

- Me: ...Is that a joke? Xie Lian, if they actually had to recite that, it’s like saying you don’t want people to talk to you.

Xie Lian’s password is revealed to be just that phrase. He set it up as a joke

- Me: goddamnit. I have been bamboozled.

Learning about the legend of the Potential Scholar He, who was mad smart but got a lot of people wanting to crush him out of jealousy. He died after getting his revenge against those who were gatekeeping him.

RIGHT EXACTLY LIKE HE'S NOT JUST A BIG BABY HOLY HECK AHHHGHH. I mean for the love of everything people act like he's just a moron who didn't understand anything / has no braincells at all and that's.... so not true??? At all???? Gah!! Like in the backstory flashback we even see him picking up on the fact that other people around him seem to take issue with him for some reason, for instance. Like he's not just bumbling through life having not a dang clue of what the frick is happening, he's literally confused in the story because nobody ever bothers to explain like......... anything to him and that is absolutely not his hecking fault. Gah. Autistic people are people!! We aren't fricking animals with no agency or brains or anything gosh dang what the heck. It's genuinely so dehumanizing, I've had people act like that to me and it's SO unbelievably frustrating.

Gosh, I love Yin Yu but genuinely he is an absolute MESS. He's kind of a disaster and socially anxious internally and just generally avoids conflict so much that it causes pretty much all of their relationship issues to be honest? I do get communication is fudging hard (again I'm autistic and dang words are difficult sometimes) but he really could have taken a moment to just explain to QYZ that he was feeling hurt and overlooked. And I mean, QYZ literally ADORES YY. He had NO IDEA YY was feeling that way and when he found out he did wind up apologizing??? YY didn't accept his apology even when he did (although to be fair YY was kind of dying and was absolutely exasperated and upset and horrible-terrible-bad at handling his emotions in healthy ways that don't end in him just losing a gasket / absolutely blowing up).

QYZ 100% never meant to push YY's boundaries at all. That's on YY for not communicating them in the first place, like genuinely it's not like QYZ is someone out to try to ruin YY's life. QYZ absolutely loves his shixiong and he would've never wanted to make YY feel so horrible. That's fudging upsetting people just view him as some evil guy who just doesn't care about how anyone else feels, because that's???? Really???? Not true?? Like gosh dang did people even read this story??? It boggles my mind that literally ALL THREE OF MXTX'S STORIES talk about how "maybe don't demonize people because it isn't that black-and-white and everyone is a lot more complex than you think" and then people turn around and point to a character like QYZ and go "yeah he's just terrible" without having... like... ANY critical thinking skills about him whatsoever? At all? HELLO??? I just- excuse me but what??? How can people ABSOLUTELY miss the entire dang everything about YY and QYZ's relationship???

And I mean the idea of poor communication between two characters leading into issues is NOT NEW to her stories, either. (Literally the entire book of SVSSS is all about that, actually.) So I really don't understand how people can just... utterly and completely misread QYZ. It's one thing if they don't necessarily relate or understand where he's coming from but holy frick in that case they need to sit down and back off and not just badmouth him and assume the ABSOLUTE worst of his character??? asfhJdhougOSKJHGLOHJDH

I love both of them dearly but genuinely Yin Yu really needed to just. Actually talk things through with Quan Yizhen instead of avoiding the issues and trying to suppress his feelings every single time. I get it was because he wanted to be a """good person""" - he didn't want to cause issues, or start drama, and he's just genuinely the kind of character who would rather sweep things under the rug than face them. But to have a healthy relationship with literally anyone that CANNOT work out that way. Saying "hey, my feelings are really hurt by what you're doing-" does nOT make you a bad person. If anything it shows a lot of emotional maturity, which YY just doesn't have. Tragically.

Getting your feelings out in the open so that things can be worked through is fudging important to learn, even if you have communication issues, almost especially if you have communication issues. I'm fricking positive that if YY had literally let QYZ know his feelings about what was happening AT ALL instead of desperately pretending everything was "fine" (when it wasn't and he just kept getting more and more exasperated), that QYZ would have actually tried to listen to him and work on those behaviors because I mean he LEGIT shows concern over being upsetting to others multiple times in the story, and what does YY do?

This scene in the flashback sequence -

Quan Yizhen suddenly asked, “Shixiong, am I annoying?”

“…You’re…not…that bad…I guess…”

Yin Yu could tell he took it for truth, and smiled before finally giving him some encouragement.

“You don’t need to mind them. You didn’t do anything wrong, really. It’s good like this too.”

Quan Yizhen nodded. “I think so too.”

Yin Yu patted his shoulder. “Go train! That’s what’s most important. Don’t think about anything unnecessary.”

I MEAN HE LITERALLY TOLD HIM NOT TO THINK ABOUT IT / NOT WORRY ABOUT IT AND THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. SO WHY DOES ANYONE EXPECT QYZ TO WORRY ABOUT IT AND TO KNOW ANYTHING WAS WRONG OR ANYTHING GAH. If people want to criticize QYZ as having "bad behaviors" then you absolutely must sit down and criticize YY as enabling those "bad behaviors." And to be honest another issue YY has in the story is just... peer pressure? Being an easily-influenced person by the people around him? I'm almost positive that HIS resentful feelings were exasperated by Jian Yu, too, who he needed to really just stop being friends with because that person was SO toxic (I mean even coming after him to try to kill/hurt him, which we know Hua Cheng saved him from). If it hadn't also been for Jian Yu absolutely making literally EVERY SINGLE SITUATION WORSE I don't think Yin Yu would've nearly been upset as he was??? I mean YY's absolute worst emotional breakdown (Brocade Immortal instance- and I mean YY started crying so badly) was caused by this person, not QYZ. If people want someone to demonize on YY's behalf they should just point fingers at Jian Yu because holy flying frick sticks okay.

In an ideal situation, Yin Yu would've had the courage to drop his toxic friend, to explain to Quan Yizhen when he was hurt, and then none of what transpired between them would've been a big deal, they could've worked it out while it was still something super small instead of the disaster fiasco it turned into. It's just really fricking tragic and demonstrates how important communication actually is in a relationship (and also that toxic friends are not worth keeping around, they do so much damage in the long run even if you want to "keep the peace" they are just NOT GOOD FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH, PERIOD; if only YY was a little more assertive and able to set healthy fricking boundaries in general holy dang). So many of the relationships in the story actually are foils to the main one, you know?

Like Pei Ming + Xuan Ji's relationship being all about possessiveness / obsessiveness over another person, which is contrasted by HuaLian's relationship based around respect and devotion instead of possessiveness. Or like Beefleaf / ShuangXuan, where LITERALLY EVERYONE INVOLVED let their emotions get the better of them in one way or another (Shi Wudu with his selfish desire to """protect""" aka control his sibling at any cost, no matter how anyone else felt about it, including said sibling, and was willing to hurt others as long as he got HIS way; Shi Qingxuan with choosing their brother over doing what was right- literally sided with corruption over justice despite being such a defender of the latter up until this point just because this was their sibling; and He Xuan with choosing his revenge and anger and hatred over a possible future of love and new beginnings with Shi Qingxuan).

Or even the dynamic between Bai Wuxiang / White-Clothed Calamity / White No-Face and Xie Lian, how BX really fricking hardcore fails with figuring out how to actually have a meaningful relationship with someone literally at all. You can write an entire essay on how much of a disaster HE is holy hecking heck. Literally almost every other relationship is a straight-up foil of "what makes an unhealthy relationship and why they don't work out vs. what HuaLian is doing in comparison and why they DO work out as well as they do."

I just - l really don't get how people can just look at QYZ and single him out and go "yeah that one's a meanie." Like I mean come on?? If they're gonna be like that then 100% they have to point to EVERY SINGLE OTHER CHARACTER AND CALL THEM AWFUL TOO BASICALLY. There's very few fricking characters in this story who don't fudging hurt someone else, either by accident or intentional. Kind of... the... entire POINT of TGCF is that everyone is human and we all frick up in some way or make mistakes and that's just a PART of being human. You can't point to QYZ and demonize him and his intentions without pointing the blame at literally so many other characters, INCLUDING characters like Xie Lian who 100% had his own personal issues and straight up almost killed an entire city or so. I mean hello??? I just do not comprehend how people could miss the ENTIRE point of the story??? I feel like Yushi Huang is maybe the only character that doesn't get someone else hurt in the story other than herself to be really honest?? (I mean even Guzi unintentionally got Qi Rong wiped out in the end, too?? I know Guzi is a kid who didn't mean that and didn't have any agency over what Qi Rong chose to do but like in the same way, not to compare QYZ to a child, but rather that - YY had his own hecking agency as an adult and QYZ isn't responsible for YY's inability to communicate with him.)

I do really like QuanYin a lot, but one of the reasons I like the pairing is the thought of what could've happened AFTER canon- that they actually take the time to work on their communication issues, something we don't really get to see on screen because admittedly it feels like QuanYin sorta got shoved to the side with everything else going on (and to be honest I felt like a lot of characters had this happen to them, like Beefleaf / ShuangXuan or like- Lang Qianqiu who just hecking went MIA for basically the whole story after his arc was done lolrip). And I DO think their entire dynamic is just super interesting though, but as it stands in canon there's a lot of issues that just need to be. Voiced. And worked on. And I really like the idea of them healing + working through their issues (in a similar vein to SVSSS, how it has a heavy focus on the main couple "learning together" how to be better to each other). And it IS kind of important for YY to have a decent dose of resentment because it's part of what allows him to come back as a ghost after Jun Wu hecking kills him with the cursed shackle, and that resentment wouldn't be there if it wasn't for everything that happened- like I find their entire arc so fascinating and compelling and really interesting and well-written/explored in a way that's just really engaging and investing, but. I do super super super fudging wish she had just. Devoted at least one bonus chapter to their post-canon dynamics, exploring their relationship in a healthier manner? Like gah if there's one complaint I have about TGCF it's that it feels like there's a lot of loose ends and how vaguely QuanYin's arc ended (and that you get just a tiny glimpse of the fact YY is still around in the extras) sort of drives me actually nuts oh my gosh. ghhhJJDJh

It's fricking 5 AM for me and my brain is hyperfixating on TGCF and QuanYin thoughts instead and I can't sleep because my brain won't leave me alone and your post just happened to be the post that made me go hogwild all over it so I'm sorry for this giant ramble. EDIT: Also worth mentioning I personally do think Yin Yu actually cares about QYZ and didn't just hate him + have resentment for him. I mean literally there are so many instances that prove he does care in the story. I just think their relationship is wildly complicated emotionally (which is part of what makes it fascinating to me) and they've got a lot of work to do to make it work out. (Similarly to how I feel about Beefleaf / ShuangXuan, which I'm wild for, too. If they have ANY chance of working out there needs to be a LOT of healing between them, especially after the awful trauma He Xuan put Shi Qingxuan through, but.) I personally like the idea of complex relationships that aren't perfect but grow with maturity and understanding over time because people actually work on themselves, like in this case Yin Yu's poor awful terrible-bad communication skills aha. Gah.......... so many Feels for TGCF's shenanigans in general. There's just a lot. A lot to unpack. Just a lot. It's all so utterly fascinating.

Okay, but people hating on Quan Yizhen for being autistic and having trouble with communication and grasping social constructs and not ever considering that Yin Yu ALSO had trouble with communication since he couldn't even tell Quan Yizhen how he was feeling or explain to him why certain things were just considered "bad" by the allistic neurotypical majority sounds a little too funny.

Like I just picture my own friend who's also my senior that I literally just hop around in the same manner Quan Yizhen does with Yin Yu and I think "oh yeah, I'm definitely evil and I'm going to fuck over my senior's life because I'm just a reallyyyy dumb/bad person and it's not that some people have different neurotypes right?"

Funny how certain media/shows/fandoms will make you like things you never thought you’d enjoy! Honestly I never thought I could ever read an a////bo or m///preg ever, but here I am.

Anyway I got hc about the main mx///xt couples having kids so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ll start this by saying that I believe that in the sv and tg worlds m///preg is possible but not in md (since it’s more realistic). And it doesn’t go here but QQ is the same.

– I don’t see Bing//qiu having kids right away. They’d want to live their honeymoon phase for a while (years), and tbh I don’t think LBH is ready to be a dad with all the daddy issues he has. Also I think he’s not yet mature enough to share his husband even with a kid of his own. At the same time, I don’t think SQQ would want to get pregnant because that’s new to him and he’s still coming to terms with the fact that it can happen. Yet, I think years in (and I mean many many years in), when they’re more sure about their relationship and more mature and understood better the world and how they fit into it, they’d agree on having a kid. I kinda see them having a daughter, only one and they’d name her either after BH’s mom or SQQ’s lil sister. I believe they’d be good parents tbh, and it’d be a surprise but I think LBH would be the better parent and oh, he would protect her so much. TLJ would love her btw! But LBH doesn’t like her spending time w him. I think SQQ would want her to cultivate in CQ mountain even tho nobody else wants bc she’s part demon, but YQY would let her. And she’d be in Bai Zhan peak, much to the horror of everybody.

– For Wang//xian, as I said I don’t think they can have kids of their own, but also I don’t see them adopting. I think it’s clear that WWX likes kids (and I’ll always love the moment where he says ‘we only need a little one’ recalling the scene w his parents and comparing it to his relationship with LWJ) but! I think they had enough and will rather now enjoy their life together on their own. Besides, they have tons of juniors that they watch over. I think they’d consider LSZ their kid, and that’s enough. They’ll see him growing up and turning into a fine man. They also watch over JL and the others, but more like in a uncles’ way. So I think they’re good. (I’m obsessed with them living their life like WWX imagined in a cottage and not at the sects)

– As for Hua//lian I do see them having kids, maybe not right away but not that many years in like with BQ. I think HC would be the one who wants them first, and once XL gets over his embarrassment about the pills that the ghosts offered, he’d accept bc he’s pretty whipped (tbh both of them are), and after the first one he’d want more. And I kinda see them having 2-3. Boy and girl (or two boys and girl) or all boys. I do, however, believe that they wouldn’t be the best parents out there. They’d try, but they have so many responsibilities that it may be difficult. Fortunately they have E//ming and Ruo///ye to babysit! And also YY and maybe BY and PS and the r//ain master?? Imagine even HX. They’d have tons of uncles (and adopted siblings) that would care for them. They’d even have cousins! (C/uocuo and G/uzi). Anyway depending on when this happens and if SQX is still alive, he’d be the cool but bad influence uncle. But other than him, most of the others are cool uncles that will watch over the kids while the parents are too infatuated with each other. And oh! When QR comes back he’d also be terrible influence on him! He’d tell him he’ll eat him and G/uzi would have to stop him, but I also headcanon that when he comes back, he’s less… gremlin and less intense. He’d still be a nuisance but somehow calmer and would rather spend his free days with his son, so I think he’d enjoy being a gremlin uncle. And it may remind him of his and XL’s infancy. HC doesn’t want him near his kids, but yk it sometimes just happens.

Now! The other canon ship and other non canon ones.

– Mo//shang would definitely have many many kids. I think it’s a common hc that they’d want kids bc of how neglected they were when they were kids. And also bc MBJ needs a heir. So they’d have many. And I think SQH would be scared at first –just like with SQQ, this didn’t exist in their world– and okay, maybe every time he’d get scared, but once he sees the kids, he’d be fine with it. Until next time. They’d have both girls and boys, but I’m not sure yet what i want the first one to be. Surprisingly they’d be the best parents from all this list. I think that LBH would see their growing family and that’s one of the things that pushes him into wanting kids btw. The half demon/half human kids would grow in both demon and human realm, but I don’t see them getting into CQ mountain as disciples. Or maaaybe one? Only one from all the bunch who’s more human-like than the others. Maybe into Qing Jing peak to annoy SQQ or in the one MQF is bc I also see them being healers. In any case, many of the kids inherited the love for bad writing from their dad, something that SQQ loathes. ((Or maybe twins get in, one is QJ and the other in that other one, but both kids pester their uncle SQQ daily with their writings!))

– Bing//jiu would definitely have many kids. Not exactly bc SJ wants, but LBH would want to have him pregnant all the time to keep him there and show everybody he’s his. SJ would say how disgusting it is, but secretly he’d love it too. He’d give LBH more kids than his other wives and he’d take pride of their kids being “superior.” Their fist kid would be a daughter (like with BQ). They’d be okayish parents, LBH would always be away ruling the world so he’s kinda absent, but he’d lavish them with gifts and nice food and other stuff. SJ would take care of them and of their education. He’d be stern but he’d also be quite spoiling –something BG doesn’t like–. We just have to keep SHL away from them btw.

– LMY/SHL (idk their ship name) wouldn’t have kids I think. I definitely don’t see SHL being a good mother at all, and honestly LMY? Keep your literature away from kids, it’s not appropriate. Buuuut maybe they (mostly SHL) end up roped into babysitting BQ’s and MS’s babies and oh she’d hate it and would ask LMY for help (maybe MS’s kids would get their love for writing from here too), and after a while, after they grow up, they may start thinking it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Until the next mo//shang baby comes and they’re like: uhhh not again…. So yeah I think they wouldn’t.

– Quan//yin wouldn’t have them bc YY is too busy and he doesn’t want them and QYZ is basically still a kid.

– Beef//leaf…. Ah, realistically it’d be the easiest since the both of them change forms a lot, but I think they’d wait also. (They need to get over their traumas first). Since I firmly believe that SQX prefers their female form and HX their male form, SQX would carry the kid. I think they agree on having only one but they end up with twins, and that’s okay. HX would be the responsible father with SQX being more scatterbrained, yet he’d try hard. (After watching his nephews before he’d know what to do better!) (I’m ignoring canon a lot here, this is in a world where they are together and SQX is immortal again).

– Xue//Xiao and Xi//Yao are unfortunately </3 not possible anymore so I won’t say much, but if they weren’t dead Xue//Xiao wouldn’t have any bc they have A//Qing already and ngl I doubt they’d be good parents at all. Xi//Yao do deserve kids and I think they’d be nice parents, albeit too protective.

– I’m not super into this ship, but since I saw some art earlier (the first I ever see) I’ve been thinking about them. I think FX and Jian//Lan should be given a new opportunity and they should give C/uoCuo a sibling! An alive one. (If it makes sense bc the mother is a ghost herself). I think they could make it work.

And last, again it doesn’t go here but:

– Yan//Shen should not adopt more kids. They have 5 already and ngl SQ is not the best dad. He kept collecting kids and then abandoning them to save the world. Not cool. YWS seems a bit better but at the same time he left YSY when he was like 10 and then disappeared for 10 years, so yk first take care of the kids you already have and then you can think about having more.

TGCF Book 3 Reaction pt.5 - Adventures before Mt. Tonglu, the REDUX

*Sigh* Tumblr crashed at the worst timing. I have to do this all over again. Or at least make a quick abridge version.

I’m just going to try my best, *sigh*

Anyways. Lots of stuff happening before Mount Tonglu opens that it should deserve it’s own post or two considering that there are like five things happening in there or something and like over twenty Hualian moments highlighted in pastel pink. Can’t wait to continue from my last post to this. Cause the ending of that post of the Wind & Water Masters Arc has me realing at times.

QYZ and Xie Lian have go on a mission. They hav to find the Brocade Immortal Robe. But first a short break at Puqi shrine and Lang Ying.

Ch 129: Everywhere Xie Lian looks, he is reminded of Hua Cheng

- Me: Dang. Xie Lian has it bad. He is missing Hua Cheng like a housewife waiting for husband to get home.

Lang Ying: *Eats Xie Lian’s cooking like it’s nothing, helps around the house, basically doing all of the tasks Hua Cheng usually does.*

Xie Lian: I’m going to take a bath

Lang Ying: *Enters and sees a half naked Xie Lian. Runs away. Come back to take away QYZ and runs away again.*

- Me: Oh, so Hua Cheng did switch places with Lang Ying. ((My son! Hua Cheng, why?!))

Ch 130: QYZ’s backstory is revealed.

- Me: Why does that sound familiar? Is it because of the story from the Lantern Festival? Some reference to another book read?

QYZ’s story reveals that a Heavenly Official named Yin Yu was banished

- Me: *gasp* Wait. Is Yin Yu the banished Heavenly Official that Xie Lian saw working for Hua Cheng?

Golden Step-Litter appears to give Xie Lian a ride to somewhere. QYZ sees the Step-Litter like it’s the coolest thing he has ever seen. QYZ wants to ride it, but was pushed off. Xie Lian almost got pushed off, but ‘Lang Ying’ caught him.

- Me: Dang, cause I know who ‘Lang Ying’ is, it feels so sad when Xie Lian was going to call for ‘San Lang’, but it ended up as ‘San- Lang Ying’

QYZ is so chaotic. Does he have ADHD? I feel like he has ADHD and/or some levels of Autism. Though I don’t know cause I’m no expert.

QYZ does something reckless without thinking. Xie Lian, mother hens him and convinces him to stop

- Me: QYZ and Xie Lian reminds me of that one D:BH comic with QYZ as baby Connor trying to put everything in his mouth and Xie Lian is Hank, trying to stop him.

Yin Yu(?) does a good job, looks like he will pass out.

- Me: Yin Yu(?) looks like he needs a vacation and more pay.

The robes move and circle around the two Heavenly Officials

- Me: This reminds me of that one clothing commercial where the outfits were chasing this group of people. Once cornered, they changed the group of people’s outfits.

Xie Lian is the person who grabs the one cursed article of clothing from the donations box out of any other clothing.

- Me: *sob* book. Please stop reminding me of Xie Lian’s E Rank (Cursed) Luck. He needs that curse removed. Please.

Ace Attorney Xie Lian strikes again. Target: Ling Wen

QYZ has taken a liking towards Xie Lian. Like a puppy who follows you home after you give it some food and head pats. He behaves like a young boy from a shounen slice of life anime or a kid with ADHD.

- Me: QYZ, what a person

Xie Lian asks Lang Ying some casual questions. Makes it seem as though nothing is wrong.

- Me: gasp is this when Xie Lian will pull a question like “So, how have you enjoyed everything so far these past few days San Lang?” ‘Lang Ying’: “It could have been better if these Heavenly Officials left you alone Ge...ge....oh.”

Xie Lian corners ‘Lang Ying’ with calligraphy writing until the boy had no choice but to confess he is Hua Cheng

- Me: Now that is smart. Played Hua Cheng like a fiddle somewhat.

Ch 134: Xie Lian: After meeting you, I remember how to be happy again

- Me: QAQ

Xie Lian made homemade meatballs. QYZ eats one and passes out.

- Me: Oh god. Xie Lian. Do you know someone named Bianchi from KHR? I feel like if you two were to meet, you will be knowledgeable in Poison Cooking

On the run, Xie Lian and Hua Cheng enters an inn run by Ghosts. They hide in the second floor and the group of Cultivators follow soon after.

- Jeez, I wonder who they could be.

The comedic skit of the Cultivators & Heaven’s Eye dodging from eating Ghost Food just because of their harsh criticism over the dirty dishes.

- Me: Will they fall for it, dang it, they did not.

Ghost lady: oh yeah. We have some suspicious guests on the second floor. Guests on the second floor: Why do I/we feel like we’ve been ratted out?

Okay. Going to stop here. Because I’m tired and still a bit salty that my og post was lost. However, I did go farther with this one than the og post. So that’s something at least.

Next time is more of the Inn, some Mount Tonglu entrance exam thing, and possibly a bit of Mount Tonglu...hopefully? Otherwise, I think I will split Mount Tonglu into three separate cause a lot happens in there, more than the Wind & Water Master’s arc.

the rest... of... book 4..... through chapter 225

i sad.

“He was lying to himself and lying to others! All nothing but deceit! No matter what, it was impossible to pretend nothing had ever happened, and it was impossible to return to before!!!” - i know :(

“Before Feng Xin went, he was afraid. Now that Feng Xin had gone, he wasn’t scared any longer. But, even though he wasn’t afraid anymore, he was in deeper agony.” - ah yes. being afraid of your friends leaving so you do things to drive them away so you can have something to point to and say that you were the one who made the choice and you dont have to fear it anymore. except that has never once worked out ever and turns out losing people just means you lost them and it still hurts. not that i would know or anything.....

“He saw upon the table there were a few plates of horrid-looking dishes that were now cold. They were what he made the queen take away without eating a single bite the night before. Now, he pulled them over absent-mindedly, and ate everything, not daring to leave behind a single leaf, afraid to miss a single grain of rice. After he ate he started puking.” - this broke me and the bad cooking isnt funny anymore :(

all this happens after they have money again. no further commentary on this chapter

i know for a lot of book 3 i just wanted hua cheng to go away but now i would give anything for wuming to come and interrupt these interactions with white no-face

Just one person was enough!” - for like 20 minutes after reading this i really was just sitting here thinking about every time a stranger did me a small a kindness and the times i did the same it just made me cry harder i love people and they really can be awful and choose to be cold and cruel but it means that when they choose to be kind..... it doesnt negate the cruelty but its still indescribable.. and being able to see that and remember that even after all the pain.....

ugh still just thinking about the times ive gone through something that changed me and having the cold numb fear that i would never be the same as i was before that i would lose some precious part of me forever and wondering if this would be the thing that finally did it... i dont know if ive ever actually experienced a piece of media that really make me think about that tbh

okay i think im to a point where i dont have any possible spoiler knowledge in my brain about what happens next (only thing i have is theres a joke about he xuan eating that i dont understand yet and i think we might get like an emily corpse bride moment but if we do i dont know why) but oh my god things have escalated
