The fireworks festival happened at night. And the ED takes place during sunrise (or sunset) until evening, which means it's the next day. This implies that atsushi was sitting there for an entire day. Atsushi is incredibly saddened by losing people he cares about, and he knows that Dazai's suicidal tendencies is not something he can protect him from, unlike other threats. And no one knows how he feels because he probably doesn't want to burden them with it so he keeps his distance until he can compose himself enough to keep going.

One of the things I always think about is how Michael was never asked the right questions during his interviews, but one question that really suck with me was "if you could turn off the fame, turn off the paparazzi, have a normal life would you do it?" I still believe to this day that this question wasn't the right one to ask...

Barbara Walters was asking a man who had known nothing but fame and cameras his entire life, a man who was raised to see his worth only in his performances, if he would simply trade it all for nothingness. She was asking someone whose entire identity had been shaped by the spotlight if he could imagine waking up to a life without it. She was asking someone who carried all the pain of crawling step by agonizing step to the heights he achieved, if he could suddenly just give it all up as if doing so would make all the suffering go away.

But why didn’t she ask him the correct ones, Why not ask if he wished he’d been born into a normal family? If he longed for a childhood where he could play, go to school and come home to a warm and loving father? Why not ask if he ever dreamed of choosing this life rather than having it imposed on him ever since he could speak?

Because let’s be honest none of that made made him who he is. In any reality, in any life, he would have become THE Michael Jackson. He created himself and his legacy, he made himself into the icon we all knew. Yet there were better ways to achieve that. Kinder ways. Ways that wouldn’t have left him scarred for life. Ways that wouldn’t have let the credit for his genius be stolen from him and handed to cruel Joe and paths that would have allowed the world to see him in a gentler light to appreciate the human behind the artist without the shadow of controversy and pain.

Michael might not have been asked the right questions, but he always gave the right answers.
