I don't think ill be saying anything new with this, and I'm not trying to I just want to air a thought, but I do think that one of the biggest if not the main misconception that abled people have around accessibility/adjustable settings in gaming is that they are there to make the game easier for disabled people. The point of an accessibility setting is to make it so that everyone can play at the same level. It might make the game easier for someone who doesn't need it normally, but for the people who it is there for it makes the game playable, usually at the same level as an abled player who is not using any alternative settings. If a game relies heavily on audio, it isn't going to be easier to play just because you have subtitles and indicators for HOH/deaf players, it's going to make it, so those players can enjoy the game at the same level as non HOH/deaf players. When I turn on subtitles in, say, minecraft, it's not because I'm expecting the game to be easier, it's because I want to be able to play the game at a normal difficulty level.
#txt#and i dont think anyone who has this misconception is evil or anything#i think it's juist something that needs to be worked to reduce#so that EVERYONE can enjoy a game regardless of ability#some games arent going to be for everyone and i dont think someone should need to chnaage a game fundamentally to make it acessable#but certain changes can make it so someone who previously couldnt play it at all now can play the game#and enjoy it at the same level as everyone else#and i like games that are challenging and wouldnt ask that agame be made less challenging for me at all#i know for most gamers the challenge is part of the fun#just make it so it isnt disproportionately difficult for some players#btw i have an audio processing disorder which is where i am coming from with this#but i think it can apply to many different people and accessability needs#i just used audio stuff as an example bc its something i personally use a lot#especially in games with voice acted cutscenes or which rely on you hearing certain instructions or indicators/cues#i like audio cues but i cant always hear them#especially when its someone speaking lol then i abolsutely need subtitles

introducing, for the first time online since i starting thinking abt this in 2020, drumroll please: my personal hc for auri's sisters name is Callisto (Callie) Mei-Huang O'Malley. take a seat, get comfy, put on a good playlist, let me explain. in the books we're given most of her name, 'callie o'malley'. but to me callie feels like too much of a nickname, it feels too informal. knowing that auri also went primarily by a nickname instead of her full name, aurora, makes me think the same went for callie. their parents are both very space-inclined people, and i feel like they'd keep the cosmic-themed names going (aurora borealis, callisto - jupiter's second largest moon and the third largest moon in our solar system, you can see where im going w this). i think callie neverrr used callisto except on paperwork n official stuff, she used callie exclusively to the point where the only people who actually called her by her birth name was her mom when she got in trouble. i think she wouldn't love the name since its so distinct and kinda uncommon but it would have some deep meaning to her parents so she'd never complain abt it to them. for her first name i kinda went between cassiopeia, calypso, celestia, but in the end i think callisto fits the best.
i also kept the middle name pattern going, staying true to my internal linguistics nerd something interesting i noticed is the first part of auri’s middle/chinese name is Jie, and in mandarin chinese the word for eldest sister is jiějie (姐姐). i doubt this is intentional on the author’s part, but going with that trend mèimei (妹妹) means younger sister in mandarin, therefore i present you with Mei-Huang. (Huang (黃) on the other hand i didnt have a deep reason for i just chose it bc it sounded pretty lmao). last thing that i found kinda funny is according to my top sources (aka google.com) the name Jié (杰) means ‘heroic, prominent, outstanding person’ which is pretty fitting for auri lol. also important to note that Jié and Jiě would be pronounced differently, here’s my fav website for audio examples of the pronunciation (https://www.chinese-word.com/voice/00jie.html). anyways please let me know if you have any questions, comments, ideas, critiques, suggestions! i am open to all of the above and anything else yall would like to add. *walks away*

Look man- just wanna say your art is literally gorgeous bro- It's very catchy and cool- but uh- that aside- I hope ya don't mind the question- but would ya mind giving some few tips on how to draw anatomy and how you color? because your art is so pleasing to look at- like bruh it's so pretty-
first of all THANK UUUUU!!!! im sososos happy u like my art!!!!!!!!!💕🌺🌷💕🌺🌷💕🌺🌷❤️♥️💕🌺🌷💕♥️❤️🌹🌹❤️♥️🌺💕!!!!!
i dont mind the question at all!! ill give u some tips on how i draw!!
BTW! these are just some tips ab what i do to draw the way i do, this is not an universal rule let alone mandatory!!
NOW ONTO THE STUFF U CAME FOR! under a read more so i dont clog ur dash bc i got kinda tecnical w some of it..! IT GOT WAY TOO LONG IM SORRY!!!
lets start with color then!! 🎨
i always see ppl saying that color theory is rlly hard and they never understand it, and tbh u dont need to learn it in depth at all!!
to make colors look good you need to think them as a group instead of choosing them individually...
though what i do is different, theres a post going around that says tinting all the colors w one brings the drawing together, and it does!! its a p good tip if u dont want to eyeball it like i do!!
but heres my process; lets say u have a sketch and an idea of what colors you want; your character is in a forest walking through the trees! what i do is choose background color and start from there
if you chose a cool color, when you start painting the rest of the picture drag the hue a little closer to blue or purple! if you chose a warm one, closer to yellow or red! if you want your drawing to have a greenish tint drag it closer to green or yellow! you get the gist of it, bring the colors closer! if theyre on opposite sides of the wheel it might be difficult, but usually bringing them closer to gray does a good job!!
also unless youre trying to get contrast on purpose, choosing colors w similar saturation(intensity!) helps unify the drawing!
say you want a drawing that is mostly grayish tones, make sure all your colors are desaturated (less intense, pigmented)
-
now say you have an existing character w a set color palette (we'll take my character elias as an example) and want to draw him in green and yellow or bright magenta and blue
i saw this explanation on a tiktok long ago but i literally cannot word it better and found it real useful
to translate the colors properly u need to think them on a scale, which ones are the darkest, lightest, and where does the rest sit?? Once you have that you can make ur own scale w the colors you want to use, and as long as the difference between the colors stay mostly the same u will be able to translate them p much to whatever!!
my drawing was done quickly so its not the best example but u get me
i think thats it for color now, but if i think of something else ill add it and tell u!!
now onto anatomy 🧍🧍♀️🧍♂️
and ill be honest w u here, i have no clue how i learned anatomy, let alone how to teach u but ill try my best here!!
and tbh, learning every bone, muscle, etc is smth rlly tedious to me so i cannot assist u there bc i dont know
ALSOO references are ur best buddy, use them!! even if its not the exact pose or angle ur wanting to draw it can help u visualize what u want and tell u what goes where!!
even if its not for the pose or angle, a skeleton can help u see how the body part works!! i look at animal skeleton legs all the time to help me draw my ocs!!!
but yeah!! i think anatomy is smth that u shouldnt take very seriously bc most of what gives personality to characters is exageration!! or made up parts!!
but like, if u want to know my way of drawing smth specific u can tell me!! i have no problem showing u how i do things!!
but since i wasnt very helpful when it comes to anatomy, im taking the liberty of adding an extra bullet point to the post
composition!! 🌇🌃🌆🏙️
composition is the way you show the image, how you place things in your drawing!!
in school they make us take audio-visual production classes, which truly isnt as interesting as it sounds but they taught us some p cool photography tips that also apply to drawings!!
one of them is the rule of thirds! basically, you divide the canvas in 9 equal parts, and the places where the lines join are the places where the eyes are most drawn to!! heres an example i found on the internet
so if you place something on those spots it will get the attention, bc the brain is used to the focus being on the center so taking it out of there makes u want to look why (or at least thats the explanation they gave me!)
also, to draw even more attention to those spots u can make a visual path that leads there!! here some crude examples by yours truly
the first one traces a path up to his head, the second one all start from there outwards
they also gave us tips for cropping images though these dont rlly matter that much, but like for example it looks better if u dont crop it at the joints, and if a character is looking somewhere you should leave some space in the direction they are looking to! heres some doodles to show u what i mean
i used to have a document full of things like that for photography but i cant find it rn, if i do ill tell u!!
moving onto the final thing, this is not quite a composition thing but rather something to give characters more personality: make them interact w their enviroment!
rather than standing looking at the camera make them use, touch, see whats around them, even if u draw them in a blank space the way they take it up shows u a lot ab them
for ex, if theres a wall they can lean on it, if theres a window they can be looking through it(maybe u can see them from the outside! framing inside framing was also smth that they taught us in that class!) if theyre standing they can be fixing their sleeves, holding their hands behind their back, tucking a strand of hair behind their ear, scratching their neck, etc!
AND YEAH!! thats what i keep in thought when i draw!! i hope u find it at least a little useful or interesting ahdhjska ill admit i got a little carried away but i love drawing and these are topics that interest me
ty for the ask!!! 💕 👋

Admittedly, I agree with the fundamental point of at least OP, but personally the idea that the people having these sorts of complaints fail to Git Gud at Having Fun is one that strikes me in a fundamentally uncomfortable way, since the whole actual point of game design is that yes, actually, the people who you are (theoretically; curse capitalism) paying (in non-Minecraft cases) money (and time, in any case) to in order to get a thing you have fun with are more responsible for the fun you have with it than you are; no one worth listening to seriously debates this about other things you spend money (and time) on, but it sometimes seems really popular to disagree with this about media like videogames
It's one of the many reason why 'just don't do X lol' as a response is, outside of specific cases/circumstances, a weasly cop-out to admit failure on the experience's behalf. If 'just don't do X' was a practicably actionable way to respond to interactive media for a lot of people, then no exploitative gacha/lootbox shit would ever be profitable. That's an extreme example, and the case for other reasons, but those types of experiences hinge on manipulatively weaponizing the fact that there is in fact a Substantial difference between deliberately ignoring something and it not being there. Curating your experience is in fact, a conscious choice/effort people usually don't like having to do (or rather, want to have already done before they started); there's a reason 'Curator' is a job in Art. It's like that saying about editing or audio design; if you notice or are self-conscious about it, that's because it (or the stuff you're used to) has fucked up, because the whole point was to be, y'know, immersed in the experience.
A lot of people who don't really (have reason to) think critically about video games, esp the moment they aren't hard-linear experiences, seem to tend to think the entire act of Game Design is Making The Good Mechanics/Pieces and putting them in a box them in a box that gets shoved out into the world and everything after that is entirely of the player's self-engineering. The reason a lot of game design courses have operant conditioning/Skinner Box shit as their *first* lesson is that it's literally how almost any video game with meaningful mechanics *has* to work on an axiomatic level; the different between Operant and Classical conditioning is, simply, the latter is about subverting existing/natural responses, the former is *creating* new tendencies/responses because the task/trigger is something not already natural. And as becomes obvious the moment you put a game/controller in the hands of older people, video games (or even just computers in general) are not natural or obvious activities in the fucking slightest, any reason it feels differently is you having became Operant enough. Games taught you how they work because it guided you to the action and associated the response/stimuli enough; when you press the A button, the guy jumps. When you press X, you pay respects, etc. Whether you consciously realize it or not, almost everything about how most everyone engages with videogames on a tactile level was because of implicitly trusting decisions the developers made; i don't think its entirely self-proven we should just immediately be able to overrule that impulse the moment something unideal comes up. Obviously, making your specific subjective moment of that a point of entitlement is potentially embarrassing, but I don't think the fundamental impulse of why people like that aren't satisfied is invalid. If a game requires you to 'make' it fun, and a different game just Is fun to me by default and any way I can interact with it habitually is only an upside...the choice is obvious, right?
Now, I can sense the glaringly obvious counterpoint, that these aren't entirely fair arguments bc Minecraft is fundamentally an open-ended sandbox experience, and one that is specifically Expressive in nature, at least wrt stacking funny coloured boxes together. My response is not only that good open-world experiences absolutely do steer/direct your experience with it regardless (and on a certain level, a game *always* does that intentionally or not for the reasons I discussed above; its sorta the whole All Art Is Political thing, yannow?), but also you should tell that to Mojang.
Bc they're the ones who decided the funny open-world sandblocks needed to add a literal endboss purely bc it was a video game, thus implicitly framing everything about how you engaged with the game's resources. They're the ones who added beds to functionally bypass Night time as a mechanic with teeth entirely, encouraging the idea that the only reason to engage with the world was to unobstructedly achieve the thing u wanted to do. Who added all the stuff re: villages/villagers to add easy sources of accelerating your ability to gain resources, including, notably, stuff you need to get to The End(er) (Dragon). Who started increasingly adding content in 'dungeon'-esque forms, which actively further encourages the idea of combat as a main foundational lever of the game (and thus implicitly framing the pursuit of the End and/or the power systems relating to such as a natural extention of how you play the game). Who made multiple other similar decisions that absolutely made base Minecraft an experience that tries to make u care about progression and numbers about as much as any other game on the market.
It's entirely reasonable and basically just completely correct to point out that people's experiences with Minecraft changes bc they as people have also changed, that's how everything works. But I feel like a lot of people pointing this out also then work from the assumption that Minecraft itself is some sacred utopian, prelapsarian site of intrinsic joy that has only now been tainted for oneself with being a gamer. And if that Minecraft ever existed, it wasn't actually for very long at all, if *ever* for some people. To reverse the common point; what if Minecraft was mostly always sorta going to be disappointing to people, y'all were just kids.
i keep getting recommended videos about how minecraft isn't fun anymore and it's mojangs fault. i think its such a fascinating phenomenon because i think at least 70% of that comes down to anything getting a little stale when it's all you do for years and years. of course you're going to not feel like something is as fun as it used to be, you started playing minecraft when you were 11 and you are 23 now with a job. things change and you are experiencing it.

personslly i like that these subjects kinda deviate from the norm, id say most ppl my age wouldnt discuss it bc theyre so preoccupied with their personal lives and im on the fence of just not caring for my personal life anymore so subjects like these dont phase me but more so intruige me. yes my chart is 90% water, how about yours? i also tend to find that if ppl are not one sided but narrow minded then theyre really really boring as theyre not open minded enough to discuss such a topic. like i came across some audios to get telekenisis and i want to try it but as its not something we have been taught from a young age
yet these sorts of topics are always always mentioned in fantasy shows (ahem wednesday for example) so its really frustrating when u want to try it but ur uncertain of it as no one else u know would do it so u cant discuss it with them bc they have limited mindset
i started with trying basic subliminals but only getting small handful of results so im wondering if u think theres anything else i can do to kinda test out these subjects? i do think ur right in saying that society has been conditioned to be so limited where ppl who struggle in their daily lives wont know of these subjects and even if they had the info they still wouldnt believe it bc most ppl would take their reality for what it is and sometimes we can get so stuck in negative mindsets due to personal situations there often seems to be no other way out of it and that is what sucks bc its not that fun, like when you think about all the stuff we have to do to get by in life its obscene. yet theres not even an exit button either
Wow 90% water, that’s intense! I’m like 70% fixed signs split between Leo and Scorpio so if anything I have tons of determination and persistence (and stubbornness 😭). I have more fire than water due to some outer planets in Sag, but my Leo sun is in the 12th house and my Scorpio placements are all major (Moon/Mars/Saturn+more). So I’m not really the typical Leo, although I do find myself in leadership/spotlight positions often, I’m a major introvert.
I’ve found that Aquarius, Scorpio, and Pisces placements are more likely to be open to talking about this kinda stuff. Mercury in Aquarius is my fave, they’re so smart with a really interesting viewpoint and love talking about aliens 😂
Subliminals are really fun and there’s one for everything. It’s easy to go down a rabbit hole and try a million different topics but that can also just end up giving you a headache. If you’ve never really used them before, I’d try focusing on one topic exclusively for a week and see how it goes. Maybe a topic like having good luck, unexpected gifts, or positive surprises. Then for a week take note of every surprise gift and fun coincidence you experience to prove to you it’s working.
These are all good ones for that topic:

I want extensive Scongo lore, I realize that I probably won't understand much bc I'm not intumately familiar with classic who or EU stuff, but Scongo sounds too iconic
Omg you're in for a wild ride and I am the perfect person to ask. This post probably won't be 100% complete tho bc its 6am and I am omw to work but I'll include some sources so you can become a real Scongler (Scongo scholar, not a real term I just made that up)
So Scongo (the best villain) is a fake, made up Dr Who character that was made up by the members of the TARDISposting Facebook group in 2017. The image is admin Joe Brennans friend Lenny but his face is made all weird:
The gig was basically to troll people of the main Dr Who Facebook group, many of which were elitist and kept calling people who didn't know every single classic who episode "fake fans", by claiming they are fake fans for not knowing about the iconic 60s villain Scongo.
Similar to tumblrs new Goncharov meme, TARDISposters were making up fake stories to go along with this fake villain to more successfully gaslight normal fans into thinking he is real. Quick side note in case you are wondering why hes called Scongo. It's just a silly name that they came up with that sounds Dr Whoey, it's not deep.
Sometime, I don't know when, they also made up Scongos brother/lover (no doubt a reference to the master, who writers tried to make the doctor's brother some time) the Wibbler, using a different picture of Lenny and a different effect on his face:
Now therere few iconic details about Scongo that no Scongo fan should be ignorant about, like his powerful Bongos, for example.
During Scongos Genesis (referring to both the creation period of Scongo as well as the iconic 80s episode) people were making fan art and shit, and the TARDISposting admins even recorded an audio drama called the Age of Scongo.
Another iconic thing to be aware about is the amount of Doctor Wbo actors who were asked to say Scongo is the best villain at cons, of which Colin Baker was the most enthusiastic imo. You can see all of the actors up to 2020 in Joes Scongo Video, which is a good resource to just watch entirely too.
Around spring 2018, I believe, TARDISposters got tired of the joke and it kinda faded and lay dormant for a while.
Fast forward to 2020, Scongo is suddenly back again. Many new memes are coming out (you gotta understand that lot of Scongo stuff is tied to the kinds of memes that were also going on in TARDISposting at the time, which is why someone asked Salad Man from The Woman Who Fell To Earth to say Scongo is the best villain, for example), there was even talks of an Age of Scongo sequel, which would turn out to be kinda hard since one of the admins who played i think Nardole in the first part? got kicked for being a weird pervert who sends gross messages to female members (something that got memed endlessly as well at his expense and was pretty funny).
Me, a member of Facebook and TARDISposting since just after the Scongo meme died and who was aware of him for a long time by then, I was thrilled by this and immediately introduced Scongo to my Discord server "looms".
This would be the start of the best era for the then only about 3 months old looms Discord server, as well as a pretty funny era for TARDISposting, with a few big problems for them which are also pretty funny to me.
So lets start with the new stuff on the Facebook side of things. A Scongo redbubble shop was opened, including breathtaking Scongle merch such as a bedsheet and a coffe to-go cup. There was also a TARDISposting Discord without rules that got, iirc, immediately spammed with scat porn so that rules were instated and memes were made about the ban of said material. Joe Brennan even joined the looms discord and is still there but hasn't written since 2020.
Simultaniously looms was taking the idea of Scongo and going crazy with it. We thought it unacceptable that the AO3 tag for Scongo was empty so we filled it. We made our own contributions to the Scongoverse which TARDISposting doesn't even know about, using a member of the server and turning them into Chad, a being of ant-time (as a parody of Zagreus, a real Dr Who character and being of anti-time) and the CEO of Chad Books, the publisher of Longbooby (Lungbarrow). There's a lot of silly stuff connected to this, lots of lore in the confines of the looms discord and it was a big time for looms social media but this is about Scongo, not looms.
There are 2 things that resulted from looms' contribution that you need to know about. The first is the Scongo era coming to Tumblr, something which we back then called the Scongo Renaissance. The second is the downfall of the TARDISposting Facebook group.
See, 2020 was a big year for transphobia, especially in Britain. TARDISposting was handling it as well as they could, kicking all the tories for example, which lead to a knock off tory TARDISposting and it's all very funny and pathetic. But this destableized TARDISposting. The critical hit would be served by my good bestie @factkinparadoxx posting the following meme:
It immediately sparked discussions, a lot of people reported one another leading finally to the banning of TARDISposting and Joe Brennan for terrorism (? Yeah.)
I personally was asleep through the whole ordeal, waking to only this post at the top of my facebook timeline and a broken link to the TARDISposting group, as it was no longer there. Here's a message from the admin to Clem that I found while looking for the meme that killed TARDISposting just now:
So following the death of TARDISposting a new group was made and there were some Scongo memes but after it died a lot of people didn't find the new group and after a while I stopped using Facebook so I can't give you any updates on Scongle Facebook.
The recent Goncharov meme, however, is opening a door to what I'd like to describe as the Scongo Enlightenment, a perfect time for Scongo to make a comeback on tumblr.
If you would like to know more about Scongo you may consult the Scongo page on TARDISposting wiki or the only archived version of TARDISposting before the disaster that i could find rn. There is also probably a live and active TARDISposting on Facebook right now if you look for it. But don't feel like you need to know any Scongo "canon" to participate. Just make shit up.
Any other true Sconglers can reblog this with additions or iconic Scongo memes that I didn't care to look for atm. Sconge on.

TDA characters as types of tiktokers
y’all KNOW i’m bored when i’m doing this shit lmao

Would you have any recommendations on where one could hear/learn a German accent? I'm learning the language but my most recent teacher said that my accent/pronunciation is not very good despite being at a B1 level. I think this is probably due to I have not one, not two, but THREE separate American accents already because of how many times we moved when I was younger, so adding another accent is hell my mouth cannot keep up. Thanks for your time.
Hey sorry that I took my time answering this.Okay, first of, Josie’s personal opinion time (feel free to skip this lmao): It’s not bad to have an accent. Everyone has an accent - not just because of your native tongue but also because of the people around you, your class, family, friends or whoever you practice with. I have a German accent and probably always will have, because I learnt English from teachers with German accents, with partners and fellow pupils who had a German accent and now I study English at a German university and people around me still speak with the same accent. 90% of the conversations I hold in English are German-accented English. But at this point, I refuse to consider my accent “inferior” to...a Yorkshire accent or a New York accent just because those are “native” accents. Of course, it’s also not bad or anything to want to sound like a native speaker and I’m not going to tell you that if you truly want to speak like a native-speaker you shouldn’t pursue that interest - but it’s something few people really 100% accomplish, so pls make sure you’re not putting the actually important things like vocab, grammar and you know - enjoyment - on hold to pursue something really elusive that your teacher thinks is important. It is very hard to accomplish especially for someone not living in Germany and Germany is a country with a lot of different regional and foreign accents, so most of us have some experience with different pronunciations - so you will most likely be understood.
Now, the my actual answer to your question:
Listening to people always helps, so does talking. I noticed it when I was still in school. I started watching American shows and it strongly affected my vocabulary and pronunciation - mind you, we were taught to speak strictly British English, American English was an evil taboo - but later I discovered my love for British films and tv shows and I reverted to the English I learnt at school, for the most part (not regarding the language level but the variety). So I definitely recommend exposing yourself to native German-speakers bc otherwise, your main influence will be your fellow students.
There are a lot of German shows on Netflix - you can check if some of them have English subtitles, I know “Dark” for example does. (I’m not sure about Vorstadtweiber, but if you want to get a taste of a Viennese accent, this might also be fun to check out. “Extra3″ is a German satire show that puts all its episodes on Youtube and with a VPN you can also access the ZDF Mediathek and RTL-Now, two very big German tv channels).
It’s especially helpful to watch out for words you’ve so far only seen in their written form so that you know you struggle with. If you hear them, maybe stop the video and try to repeat it. If you’re interested in specific accents from specific regions (which might be a bit hard, mind you) you can also look for some source material from different regions. For example the German audio of “My Fair Lady” has her speaking with a very thick Berliner accent instead of Cockney, so that’s something you might find interesting bc it’s a film you might already be familiar with. Another tip: I noticed about myself that I easily start thinking in another language, even if I’m really far from fluent and miss words. And doing that I noticed that my inner monologue still has a German accent but it’s much weaker than when you know. my actual physical mouth is involved, for some reason. I can also imitate different English accents in my head much better than I can when I speak - you might try that and even talk to yourself. If there’s no one to tell you you are doing it wrong, it becomes much easier to experiment and have fun with language.
In my experience, it also helps to imitate the accent the speakers of your target language have while speaking your language: I noticed that when I was practising Russian on duolingo: Now, duolingo makes you repeat sentences to practice your pronunciation and my Russian pronunciation was horrible - until I purposefully tried to sound “Russian” - suddenly Duo understood what I was saying. So you might try to speak German with what feels like an exaggerated German accent to you, even if it feels weird at first. (I do the same when I want to sound British)Another thing that helped me (much more than teachers ever did) is to watch English people contemplate and imitate and play with German accents - because even if it’s something I made fun of a lot these last days, it’s interesting and helpful, because if done for comedic or storytelling purposes (I’m going to give an example of that later on), it often highlights the aspects that make it sound different from a native pronunciation and help you localise these aspects in your own language use. That said - the reason I make fun especially of British people playing Germans is that their accents are often based on other British people pretending to be German, not actual Germans so it sounds...very different from the way we speak English. So keep in mind that it’s not always authentic. (Personally, I still think I learnt how not to pronounce the word “convenience” from an episode of Blackadder but that’s another story)
Okay I threatened that I would add an example on how accents in media might help you understand your own accent better:
There are many examples of English-speakers pretending to speak German, but since you are already at B1 and probably speak better German than most of them (many just say stuff without knowing the words or even...just make up sounds that they think sound German), so I picked a film scene that I mentioned in a post a few days ago: the pub scene from Inglorious Basterds (which I saw on youtube is apparently popular for language teaching purposes).
It’s interesting because Michael Fassbender is half-German and knows the language somewhat so he at least knows what the words he’s saying mean. Also, he’s surrounded by native speakers which make for good comparison material. (mind you, Inglorious Basterds is obv. a film about the NS-era so while the German they speak sounds rather modern, I can understand if you would like to avoid that content. Especially since the second video ends in a shooting.) I couldn’t find the whole scene online but if you have the DVD, you might want to look into it, because it’s much longer than the excerpts I found online and maybe you can spot more of the language patterns I will point. (It also has Christoph Waltz in it and his Austrian dialect which might also be interesting to you)
Now, what you need to know is that Fassbender plays an English spy pretending to be a German officer - but when someone points out his accent, he tries to pretend to be Swiss. He does a pretty good job speaking German actually and a German would understand every word he is saying (unlike we do with some other actors pretending to speak German) - but it’s also very obvious with every word that he’s not a native speaker (and no one would actually mistake him for Swiss.) (btw if you want to check out what an actual Swiss dialect sounds like: (x) (I could imagine it’s very difficult for English speakers, because it has a lot of “ch” sounds and is very guttural.
Now, back to Inglorious Basterds:
The first thing that’s very interesting to look at is the first 30 seconds of the first video because it’s clear that they made Fassbender exaggerate his accent because in that scene it leads to a German soldier he’s talking to noticing and pointing out his strange pronunciation. At 0:35 in the first video it’s very, very obvious when he yells the word “zurückkehren” (which finally makes the soldier address the issue)- because he pronounces it “zurück-kerr-än” - a very typical pronunciation with an English accent. Whereas a German would usually say: zurück-kehr’n” (You can compare it to one of the Germans saying “zurückkehren” at minute 2:30) It is also interesting to compare how Fassbender pronounces an “r” vs. how the Germans do it - because he pronounces it like you would in English, while the German “r” sound is a bit harsher and produced a little bit further back in the throat. (Tip: If You can feel it vibrate in your mouth, you’re doing it rrrright).
When he says “rrrrrüpelhaft” it seems as if he’s trying to pronounce the “r” like a native speaker there - but overdoes it. (Fassbender does the same exaggerated “r” sound at 2:56 with the word “Regisseur” and at 2:33 with “Riefenstahl”) - which just sounds a bit off. Compare it to Til Schweiger at 1:00 saying “betrunken (oder völlig) verrückt”. btw If you compare the way Schweiger says “sprechen” in that sentence with Michael Fassbender saying “sprechen” at 2:35 you will also notice the difference in the way they pronounce the “ch”.In that sequence at 2:30, Fassbender also says “gesehen” a lot - and always pronounces it G-esehen, while a German would probably pronounce it ge-seh-’n
youtube
Something that many German learners struggle with - that you can observe in these videos as well - is the pronunciation of infinitive verbs. German verbs, as you know, usually end in “-en” (gehen, sagen, sprechen, hoffen. etc). Now, German speakers usually barely utter the second “e” at all, it’s often: geh’n, sag’n, sprech’n - it*s something that sounds a little off sometimes when Fassbender speaks, because he often puts more emphasis on it than a German would for example when he asks “Haben Sie den Riefenstahl Film gesehen?” or at 3:24 in the second video when he says “aufsteh.en.”You can also observe the impact of the native English - at 2:50 when he says “Brüder” it comes out as “Brüddr” which sounds a lot like “brother” - while in German, the “ü” is stressed and the “r” is almost inaudible.I think the biggest challenge for English-speakers is the “ch” (which unexperienced speakers often turn into a “k” sound - for example turning “Nacht” into “nackt”, always fun). You can see Fassbender struggle a little with that a few times as well (it’s particularly important to keep in mind that there are two “ch” sounds - the one produced in the front of your mouth like in “ich” or “frech” or the one produced farther back in your mouth like in “Nacht” or “Bach” - so if you encounter a word with a “ch”, it’s best to check out which one it is.You can also see him struggle with the long words in German - he basically forces “tausendjähriges” out very quickly which sounds very strange and mechanical and at 3:20 in the second video he has a different strategy and stresses EVERY part of the world Hauptsturmbannführer: “Haupt. Sturm. Bann. Führer.” which sounds ... strange even when done for dramatic purposes. You can compare that to the way the German actor says the same word at 3:31. (especially if you pay attention to how they pronounce “Führer” you will notice the proximity issue. “Führer” is a word that many English-speakers find difficult to pronounce and I think it’s a) because many English-speakers are familiar with the word “Führer” but never heard a German pronounce it b) because of the close proximity of an “ü” and two “r” sounds. When Fassbender pronounces “Führer” it sounds very much like an English person would pronounce the world in an English context while the German guy pronounces it like a German does - that’s something else to keep in mind, that words you might be familiar with like “Volkswagen” or “Weltschmerz” or any of the others are usually pronounced with an accent when English-speakers use them (The same is, of course, true for any other loan words)
youtube
There*s a similar scene in First Class also with Michael Fassbender sitting in a pub with Nazis (seriously that’s... a huge part of his repertoire it seems) which you might want to check out bc again, he speaks German and the other guys are native speakers so if you want to keep looking for different pronunciations and accents, it might be interesting.
(Also “Auslautverhärtung” is a big issue with English-speakers and German-speakers. The reason why German speakers tend to say things like “sayin-k” and “goin-k” and “leavin-k” is because the last sound of a word is usually spoken harsher in German than it is English. English-speakers often have the opposite problem and swallow the last sound a little. I didn’t notice particularly jarring examples of that in these scenes, but it’s still something to keep in mind)
All of that said and done and dissected, I think natural development and interacting with native speakers is much more effective and fun than just trying to avoid certain pronunciations or imitate how other people sound, especially bc I don’t want to bore you with technicalities or even worse, make you nervous about speaking because honestly? Accents are fun and everyone has them. Don’t worry too much about it
If you speak slowly, people will understand you and if you spend some time around native speakers, it will help a lot, it has a strong impact on the way you speak (so obviously i recommend listening to a lot of spoken German, watch films, shows, youtube etc.) And yes, pronunciation is important - you need to be understood after all - but having an accent is natural. Everyone has at least a regional accent and I don’t understand why foreign accents are automatically considered a flaw or a sign that someone isn’t able to communicate fully in that language they learnt.
I recommend you focus on words and grammar and listening and reading comprehension and let things grow naturally and don’t actually enjoy having an accent. There’s nothing wrong with it.

Getting started learning Japanese.
Here’s some resources I’m using to learn Japanese and what I think they do well and not so well. This is all based on my own experiences and what works best for me.
I will be rating based on the following criteria: Cost, Is it easy to use?, How much does it cover?, Pros, Cons, Overall impression.
Tofugu
I’m replacing a previous recommendation with this one. Far superior. I’ll just get right to it.
Free. Easy to use.
Pros: articles on just about everything. Theres a podcast. And every month they post resources for learning japanese. I highly recommend this website for these posts alone.
Cons: some content you gotta pay for but as far as i know they don’t duck around with people’s trust. They are the creators of wanikani and they gotta make money somehow.
Overall: far more useful that the first website i had on here. Maybe I’ll add more details later, but I just wanted to update this one as quickly as possible.
Japanese from Zero (video series)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOcym2c7xnBwU12Flkm5RcLIEhvURQ8TB
Cost: free
Easy to use: yes. Theres a nice playlist so all you have to do is sit and watch.
How much does it cover: You start out knowing absolutely no japanese and by the end of lessons you will know two writing systems. Basic sentence patterns and grammar. There is even a kanji series.
Pros: nothing is easier than sitting and watching videos to learn. You can play it anywhere at anytime. George has been teaching/speaking Japanese for years so he knows where students get stuck. He gives good explanations and examples on when to use new content and when not to use the new content.
Cons: because its a series, sometimes George refers to previous lessons or his book and you may be missing some context if you start in the middle or skip through some lessons.
Overall: The first lessons were painful to get through because It starts out with romanization and if you already know the writing systems, seeing the romaji on screen is like listening to nails on chalk. Not to mention I have a personal beef with numbers and counting as well as the common phrases like “おはよう”
But it is called Japanese from Zero and it is meant for someone who knows absolutely nothing about japanese so I can forgive the painful beggining lessons. Once I got past the introductory stuff the videos became more enjoyable.
Duolingo (app)
Cost: free
Easy to use: yes
How much does it cover: basic japanese sentence patterns, all three writing systems and a handful of new vocabulary.
Pros: teaches new words and sentence patterns and really drills them into your head. Gives you a few new words at a time so you can take the time to learn them without being distracted from all the other words you need to learn. You can go into the course as a Japanese person trying to learn English and really get the most out of Duolingo because the japanese version starts out with Kanji and even gives polite and casual sentence forms.
Cons: very repetitive. I don’t find fault with this but a coworker of mine found this to be very annoying and I can understand why. Duolingo says the lessons will get harder but instead its the same lesson except now you have to review it 10 times instead of 5. That’s not exactly hard, that’s just tedious. My biggest gripe with duolingo is that it doesn’t explain particles or why the kanji has different readings. In order to figure that out I had to go and do my own research which isn’t a big deal but if you’re only using duolingo by itself it makes it harder to understand why you keep getting things incorrect and subsequently how to fix it.
Overall: I will admit I am biased towards duolingo because I’ve used it for Spanish, French, Italian, and now Japanese. I was there from it’s early days when it was absolute shit and it has come a long way. I recognize the issues with Duolingo right now but I know that they are constantly updating. Painful as it may be to keep hearing 六時六分です it really is teaching you sentence patterns that you can use to make your own sentences. You just have to go out and do a little extra work yourself. It is, by far, the easiest to use and the method I use everyday.
TinyCards (app)
Cost: free
Easy to use: yes
How much does it cover: it covers a lot of vocabulary phrases and even sentences. You can probably get a lot mileage out of this one if used correctly and if you’re willing to put in the work
Pros: dozens of pre-made flashcards to choose from and the ability to make your own. Cards come in sets that you can unlock by finishing the first set similar to duolingo. A lot of other flashcard apps work in a similar way except they make you pay for the rest so I appreciate that this one is free of charge. Plus you can find flashcards specifically from the duolingo courses so you can study the vocabulary in isolation rather than in a sentence. Interactive flashcard system. So you don’t just flip cards and call it a day, occasionally you will have to write out the translation in the target language or pick from several choices.
Cons: the difficulty can be a little inconsistent. Sometimes you just flip a card and say I remember that one and other times you’ll have to translate a full sentence in Japanese. Even if you get the kanji right, you may get the answer incorrect because the card wants the hiragana and vice versa. And because there are so many card sets to choose from, not all of them are useful.
Overall: a sister app to duolingo it seems. Cards come from the community of learners and are not limited to japanese or languages. You can also learn about history, art and pretty much anything else. I appreciate the interactive aspect as most other apps don’t do this and the ones that do are muuuch more inconsistent than this one. I found similar interactive flashcard apps that would sometimes show Vietnamese translations instead of English translations. I’ve only recently been using this one but I pretty much gave up on using other similar apps bc they were very inconsistent. I haven’t used it very much though because I’ve discovered that I’m not a flashcard learner. If you learn best with flashcards then I would recommend it.
Tae Kim’s Guide to Japanese (website/pdf/app)
Cost: free
Easy to use: relatively. Just read the damn thing. I get it though. Reading is very tedious
What it covers: It really is a beginner to advanced beginner guide covering the same things as all the above. Basic grammar, writing systems and such. One thing that is very unique about Tae Kim’s guide however is that it also includes cultural notes such as explaining casual vs polite speech. Male vs female speech that a lot of the other resources don’t even touch on
Pros: A very good starting point that covers so so much. The website has an option to show/toggle translations. Additional cultural notes plus examples. Almost every“how to learn japanese” guide points to this website
Cons: one of the reasons I was holding out on making this list was because I haven’t finished going through all the resources so I don’t have any cons for this yet. I’m only part-way through and I’ve yet to have any issues with it. Maybe just that once it gets the point across it immediately moves on. You don’t really have time to digest the content so It’s like a very in-depth crash course in japanese. You may need to go out and do extra research in order to really understand the content. If you don’t understand what is being taught, just read over it again and keep it in mind. I’ve found that I’ll come across more examples as I continue my studies and it all starts to fall into place
Overall: It doesn’t sugarcoat Japanese or treat the learner like a baby. If you read the introductory page, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Definitely influenced my approach to learning despite not having gone through all of it. Like other resources, it builds on top of topics already covered but it’s nice having a book-format with conjugation charts and lessons separated by chapters. Videos and podcasts are nice but Tae Kim’s guide also acts as a manual to supplement your learning. Maybe you want to write a sentence in the masu-form and need a quick reminder? Just flip to the page in the guide. No skipping through videos trying to find the part you need because it’s already there.
Manga Sensei (podcast/website)
Cost: mostly free. I believe theres some extra stuff you can purchase. I’ve seen a special podcast that requires payment and comes along with a free pdf. But for the most part, you get a lot of free content.
Easy to use: relatively. Havent been on the website much so for all i know it could be a mess
What it covers: the podcast covers a lot of grammar points and occasional vocabulary and cultural notes. Gives you a good foundation to build on top of. The website has more details on what the podcasts are about but I haven’t spent much time on the website as I have the podcast.
Pros: grammar points in 5 minutes or less. Differences between common words. Good for improving listening skills. If you’re driving or on a bus, you can learn on the go.
Cons: so much to choose from you kinda have to sift through what you need. Most of it is useful and there are a couple of repeat lessons as Manga-Sensei has a beginner’s guide every year. Because its audio only, you may be learning new words and grammar but you may not be able to identify them as quickly on paper. Best to supplement with some type of visual. I believe the website has something to solve this and I’ve heard there is a youtube channel as well? Although I am not sure.
Overall: If you’re going on a long car ride, folding your laundry or even just working-out, this is a great way to stay on top of your studies. Manga-Sensei has talked a lot about his projects such as his manga, alternate podcasts, and pdf. Even though I haven’t taken a look at all of them, it’s clear he’s working hard to bring content for listening, reading, and conversation skills. That being said, the podcast is just as good for learning as any other method. You can still understand the lessons (which are meant to be short and simple anyway)
Japanese Ammo with Misa (Video Series)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBSyd8tXJoEJKIXfrwkPdbA
Cost: free although she has a Patreon as well if you want to support her.
Easy to use: yep
How much does it cover: A Lot. From basic videos about grammar to more complex videos breaking down japanese songs as well common phrases and little notes that you may not find in a textbook
Pros: Her lessons have a lot of examples and good breakdowns of the grammar and tense. If a verb is in the past-negative tense, she will break down how to get to that point from the plain form or dictionary form. The best part about her videos is that she has her examples on-screen and color-coded. It may seem like a lot at first, but once you adjust to it, it helps to retain the information.
Cons: Because there’s so much content packed into her lessons, I recommend getting a basic knowledge of Japanese first. She has a video series for basic/introductory Japanese. I would suggest starting with that series or George’s series, or Tae Kim’s guide. Just so you don’t get an information overload.
Overall: There is one video in particular that I recommend to watch and I’ll make another post about it, but I really enjoy her content. Even though some of her videos are very dense with information, the comments suggest that its still easy to follow. I just think that while you can still learn a lot as a newbie, you might retain more if you already understand some grammar.
Japanese (app)
Cost: free holy shit!!
Easy to use: relatively
Pros: search using english, japanese, radicals, or drawing the kanji itself. Flashcard system, where you can build your own decks or use a pre-made one. The flashcards operate on a spaced repetition system. Plus it provides example sentences, compound breakdowns, stroke order, conjugations and JLPT level.
Cons: The drawing search method is sometimes hit or miss but i’m impressed the app has this option at all, let alone that it does not crash the app (like some others I’ve tried). The pre-made decks can have up to 400 words or more which is great if you have that kind of patience but I rarely find myself excited to sift through all of those words only to have about 10 of them be useful to me.
Overall: Okay it’s not like this app is super amazing or revolutionary but it’s a dictionary and flashcard sytem all in one. Say you want to keep a record of the new words you learn to refer back to them later? Make a new deck! Or if you’re reading a book or newspaper and come across a word you don’t know? Add it to the list or make a new deck! I try use new words as often as possible to drill them into my head And although my studying has slowed a bit, this app is perfect to double-check spelling and usage. (At least until jisho.org gets an app). Plus it’s easier to learn and remember words when you’ve come across them on your own.

Lamentations 1:1-2:19, Philemon 1-25, Psalms 101:1-8, Proverbs 26:20
Today is the 29th day of October. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It is great to be here with you today as we take the next step forward in the Scriptures as we continue to move our way through the year. And we've come to a unique day in our year. Yesterday we finished the book of Jeremiah and we finished the letter to Titus, which means in the Old and New Testaments we'll be beginning new territory. So, in the Old Testament, we will be stepping into the book of Lamentations, which definitely changes the complexion and moves us into some strange and mournful territory.
Introduction to the book of Lamentations:
So, to kind of wrap our minds around the territory that we're going into, the book Lamentations is composed of five poems of lament. And these laments are over the fall and destruction of Jerusalem. Now we can just blow by that and go, whatever. That was a long time ago. Keep hearing about this. Predictions of it in prophecy and then they're destroyed...like, we've been through this territory. But if we're to say the fall and destruction of Los Angeles, right? Or the fall and destruction of New York. Or the fall and destruction of Sydney or London. Then we would actually be talking about the magnitude of what's being described in Lamentations. And we can understand this soul wrenching emotion that these dirges come from. Jerusalem was lost! The temple of the Almighty God had been destroyed, right? So, ash is in the air. Fires are burning all over the place. Blood is everywhere. In Hebrew, this book is called Eykhoh, which means how, right? How could this happen? And of course, we know that it did happen because the Babylonians did breach the wall of Jerusalem and destroy the city. And we not only know this from the Scriptures, but archaeological evidence of this conquest can still be found in Jerusalem today. How it could happen was largely the subject matter that we just read of in the prophecies of Jeremiah. The prophet warned for decades of the impending doom that would befall God's people if they didn't turn from their wicked ways. And so now in Lamentations, the prophecies have come true.
And the book of Lamentations doesn't reveal its author. Not within the text. The tradition is that these mournful writings were written by Jeremiah. And this is one of the reasons why Lamentations follows Jeremiah in the Bible. But biblical scholars have debated this for centuries and there's compelling theories in favour of Jeremiah and compelling reasons why it couldn't be Jeremiah. But there is a general consensus on one thing: whoever did write Lamentations was likely an eyewitness to the destruction of the holy city. So, the Babylonians conqured and wiped Jerusalem out in 586 BC. And Lamentations was probably written very shortly thereafter. And until today, in the Jewish culture, on the 9th day of Av, Lamentations is read on a day of fasting to comemorate the great fall of Jerusalem. And as each poem is read, it provides a backdrop for personal and deep reflection. And we're moving into some territory of lament, right? And so lamenting is never an easy thing. Grief is hard. But it has a way of washing us clean. It strips us away until all the layers are gone, until all that's left is what is really bedrock in our lives. And even though it's intensely painful, it's also freeing. When we have fallen into the depths of sadness, there is hope for our future and lamenting helps us give language to suffering, right? And this is what we stuff. This is the kind of stuff that we stuff down and pretend it's not there and just allow it to simmer inside of us and turn until it turns into so much anxiety that we can't think straight. Lamenting gives language to this and helps is release it. It helps us let go of who we once were and what we are lamenting. Because we're not only lamenting what's happened to us, whatever it is that's made us so sad. We're also lamenting the end of a chapter so that we can begin anew. And we'll find this in the book of Lamentations. And if we'll let it, if we'll enter into it, we can find this in our lives. And, so, we begin. Lamentations 1:1-2:22. And we're reading from the New Living Translation this week.
Introduction to the book of Philemon:
Okay. So, as we mentioned at the beginning, we're also beginning a new work in the New Testament, which is another of the Apostle Paul’s letters. And this is the final letter that's clearly attributed to the Apostle Paul. And like the pastoral letters, this is a personal letter, but it's not a pastoral letter. It's a personal letter to a person named Philemon. And it's short. We're gonna read the whole thing in just a minute. And it probably was a short letter that accompanied the delivery of the letter to the Colossians that we know as Colossians in the New Testament. Philemon was a church leader in Colossae. And it's pretty likely that he was probably one of the more wealthy and influential church men in Colossae. According to the letter, a congregation met in his home. And he had a servant. And his servant's name was Onesimus and Onesimus ran away. And he probably stole from Philemon in the process, which would have been an offense punishable by death. And Onesimus likely fled to Rome from Colossae in an attempt to disappear. At the same time this is happening, Paul was in Rome under house arrest awaiting trial. So, in a strange twist of divine providence, Onesimus came into contact with Paul and then under Paul's instruction, Onesimus, the runaway slave, became a follower of Jesus. And after his conversion, then Onesimus served Paul and cared for his needs while he was under arrest in Rome. So, sometime later after this, Paul wrote a letter to the church in Colossae, intending to send Tychicus on the journey to hand deliver it and in the process, Paul also wrote this personal note to Philemon and sent Onesimus to accompany Tychicus back to his hometown and master. And this would have been... I mean, you can put yourself in the runaway slave Onesimus' shoes. This would have been a pretty frightening step of faith because his life hung in the balance. He could be executed for what he had done. But Paul's influence, not to mention his own imprisonment, gave Onesimus the courage to leave his life in God's hands and do the right thing. And, so, this letter goes along with Onesimus and packs a punch. It shows us the importance of forgiveness. It teaches us that no matter what our level of authority is over another person, if they're a believer in Jesus, then they are brothers and sisters and they should be treated as brothers and sisters. And it also gives us a compelling example of how God does, in fact, work all things together for the good of those who love him. And so we begin and end (because we're reading in its entirety) the book or letter to Philemon.
Prayer:
Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for this new territory that we're entering into in the book of Lamentations and we invite Your Holy Spirit. Some of us are lamenting in our lives right now. All of us, though, have experienced this. And so we invite Your Holy Spirit to give us language to those times in our lives when sadness and grief are our companion. Usually we spend all of our efforts trying to avoid those things or to get away from those things, but they are not purposeless. And when we find ourselves walking through that season, giving language to it gives language to our soul. So, we invite Your Holy Spirit to show us how to enter into this so that it can wash us clean and give us a fresh start. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the mighty name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Asia, it’s Margo in Australia. I just heard your call my treasured sister. I am so, so sorry for what happened and I want you to know how very much we love you and how much we feel your pain with you. I don’t know how to explain why this happened. I don’t. I wish I had the words but all I can say is we love you, we’re here for you. I had a similar experience quite some years ago and I thought it was a miracle, really going to be a miracle baby and then I lost it and I remember lying on the couch and I made a decision - You are a good God regardless of the things that I don’t understand and the pain that I feel and it almost like a taunting it felt like. I made a decision, You are a good God. I don’t know if you’re ready to hear that but that’s all I’ve got today. I’ll just quickly pray. Father God I pray that you would wrap Asia in your arms right now, help her to feel Your presence in her life, help her to know what ever happens on this earth that You love her so much. Father, I pray Your super natural comfort. Father, comfort the wounded heart. Help her to know that even though she doesn’t understand and may never understand that You are with her and You love her and we love her, in Jesus’ name. Amen. Bye for now.
Hi family, this is Kim from Kentucky and it’s Friday, October 26th and I’ve just listened to, once again, to the prayer request and I have to call in for Asia. I hear your hurt, your pain sister, and I’m praying for you. And just for all of us, when we are crying out, just know that Jesus weeps with us. The shortest verse in the Bible, but Jesus weeps. Bless His heart, He cries with us, His heart is for us and I could hear, you know, the questioning in your voice and with your, you know, trying to understand and I was reminded of the disciples asking Jesus, who sinned? That this man was born blind, did he sin, did his parents sin? It wasn’t your unbelief. It wasn’t your lack of faith. It…it…neither sinned, that’s what Jesus said, neither sinned and you didn’t sin, and your husband didn’t sin. We’ll understand it on the other side. This side we don’t and we are instructed not to lean on our own understanding. Just lay back sister, lay back in the arms of Jesus and know that He’s holding you and rest in that, all of us, rest in that, in His love, in His unfailing love, His infinite love. And Joe the Protector, I’m praying for you my brother, your 15-year-old daughter. All will be well. It will. God will work it all out and it will be a beautiful picture of His grace, His love, His mercy. I love you all family. Prayers for all. In Jesus’ name. Bye.
Hi guys, how you doing? This is the Prodigal. I was actually gonna call in today with a prayer request but when I listened to the podcast today I heard Asia’s voice and every time I hear her voice my heart leaps, I light up, because she’s such an inspiration. And then she came across with such, such just earth shattering, heartbreaking news. And, so what I want doesn’t really matter. All my thoughts and prayers are with you girl because you’ve been an inspiration to me as I’m sure many here with your positivity and your…just your aloof and song in your voice. And we prayed for you for your wedding, we prayed for you for your baby, and now we prayed for you for this baby, and just heartbroken for you, praying for you. Just wanted you to know that. There’s been a lot of just bad news recently, Gee and others. It’s just…it’s tough times…it’s signs of the times. But God doesn’t give us anything that He doesn’t help us get through. I believe that, I gotta believe that because, yeah, I’ve been beaten up pretty frigging hard and I’m still here and I’m even surprised every morning that I am still here but I am. It’s all because of him. I pray for you Asia. I pray for you Gee, I pray for you all. You’re going through very tough times like I am, like we all probably are. And just know that…that’s it’s just a test. It’s just game. The real…the real prize is the next life, not this one. So, we make our decisions and we do our best and we get surprised and we screw up and we hurt. But God…it’s who we show up as in Him that matters, that’s the only thing that matters, the rest of the stuff is just a test. I love you all. God bless you all. This is the Prodigal. I’m out.
Hi family this is Melissa from Albertville Alabama. Let’s lift up Asia in prayer. Father, in the name of Jesus great grand creator of all things. Lord, we thank you for all that you done and all that you gonna do. Lord please come alongside Asia. Her heart is broken and her spirit is crushed right now but I read in your word that there’s healing in your wings Lord. Wrap your arms around this, our precious sister Lord. We love you and we thank you for all you’ve done. [singing] Lord let Your kingdom come and let Your will be done right here on earth just like it is in heaven. I need to hear You now. I need to know it’s You. I’m standing on Your promises. I know Your words are true. Your bigger than what I think. It’s you in exchange for me. God even the impossible is Your reality. Jesus died for me. Help my unbelief God. [singing stops]. I love you Asia. I’m not the best singer in the world but I just want you to know I love you sweetheart. You all have a great day. Bye-bye.

Weird question but do you recommend a chrome book for like studying and work like that bc I’ve heard they can be slow
Hey, not weird at all! I just got mine mid March, but I haven’t noticed it being slow at all! My laptop completely died on me during midterm season and I had a ton of papers and online exams to do, so my plan was to just use this in the meantime and return it to best buy as soon as my work was done and then I could buy an actual laptop. I obviously decided to keep it. I would recommend using a Chromebook for schooling, but only if it’s not going to be your primary device at home like it is mine (if you spend a ton of time on it, anyway)
First off, before I go into pros and cons (no false sense of hope here… under the cut I’ll tell you everything I love about it and everything I hate or get annoyed at), I should mention I’m using the Samsung Chromebook Plus
All in all, I LOVE my chromebook. It’s got its flaws, but most of them have easy fixes. I hope this full length article helps you decide what to do! If your main concern is getting you through school/work, I say go for it!
8/10 would recommend! I’d love to say 10/10, but there are enough flaws that I can’t in good conscience tell you to go get yourself a chromebook knowing it does some real stupid stuff.
Pros:
lightweight - seriously, I spent all day on campus carrying my Dell around in my bookbag and I’ve never been one to have back problems but carrying it around all day hurt. Sometimes I’d literally just abandon my bookbag (with my laptop in it) in the hall in one of the academic buildings while I went to find something to eat all the way across campus. Like, seriously. According to google the UCF campus is 1415 acres. I don’t even feel weight from my Chromebook while I’m walking campus with it in my bag.
Convenience - It’s essentially half laptop, half tablet. You’re getting the best of both worlds. Google play store (so you can play games and use the device as an e-reader) but you also get the internet at full capacity rather than the dullness of a mobile browser.
Stylus apps - This stylus was a lifesaver for me last semester. I had college algebra last semester, and with math I’m always wasting a ton of paper, so I bought a whiteboard I could carry around with me but it took up too much space at the desks in classrooms. With a Chromebook, Google Keep (note taking app) is built in. when I didn’t feel like wasting space (and dropping my calculator, pen, eraser, markers, board) I could just pull up my stylus apps on half my screen and my math modules on the other half.
Also, have you seen my newer editing attempts? Working with just my finger on this device was already pretty good, compared to on my phone. But using the stylus helped me to get a clearer view of everything I was erasing and more wiggle control
Quick boot up time - In the manual, it claims that the chromebook boots up in 10 seconds. I’ve found that it takes about half that time to start up
2 in one - it does have 360 mode, so you don’t have to use it as a laptop all the time. In tablet mode, you get all the essential uses you get in laptop mode (except the ability to split the screen) plus you can use emojis on the touchscreen keyboard that pops up
Apple Music - On my samsung tablet, I can’t access apple music (the app shows up, but I can’t download it). On chromebook, I can. No itunes though, which is a bummer, but I don’t really need it.
Easy streaming - Watching Netflix/Hulu is such a breeze. I haven’t experienced any buffering issues like i constantly did with my last laptop
Amazing touchscreen - With my Dell laptop (which, again, gave out on me) my touch screen often had meltdowns or prevented my touchpad from working. Seeing as how Samsung has essential experience in touchscreen development, I’m not shocked that I’ve never had an issue with this touchscreen
Have trouble remembering urls? no more - Built into the computer, you have what appear to be google (and other brand) apps, but they’re actually shortcuts that take you directly to their respectful websites. Google drive (which is also built in through the files app), Lookout, Google Maps, Weather Channel, etc. I don’t use them, but it’s such a great gesture.
Memory - I use a lot of space and I haven’t even begun to run out yet! There’s also a slot for external memory (an SD card like what you’d insert into your phone something I wish Apple would do instead of making me pay for more storage every month. Unfortunately for me, this doesn’t work for apps. It’s only so that you have another storage method for your files. After my previous laptop died I lost all my running club pics, so with this chromebook, I have the option to just go ahead and save them directly to my SD card so that doesn’t happen again. It’s kind of like using a flash drive for safe keeping except, ya know, it’s not a flash drive replacement.
It’s made to fit YOU - If you don’t want someone to get into your files, they can’t. You sign in with your google account, but you CAN create additional user accounts (which includes a guest account)
Resetting the computer is easy! - You can’t go wrong. Your options are
restore default settings
COMPLETELY wipe the computer of all info (the option you’d choose if you wanted the get rid of the computer, so it’s essentially… factory reset)
Virus control - While there’s no harm in buying yourself an antivirus program, you don’t necessarily need it with Chromebook because google’s actively fighting off viruses for you. I started out using antivirus programs before I realized I didn’t need it. I haven’t had any issues at all with the security of my computer, with or without any kind of protection
Cons
Limited keys - You have to make sure you remember key combinations to perform certain tasks. For example, at first I thought I couldn’t get caps lock on this computer. To do that, it’s alt+search key. scroll to the top of the page? alt+ctrl+up arrow. screenshot in laptop mode? still can’t remember which symbol matches up with that one.
Ctrl Alt…. What? - You don’t have control alt delete anymore. The task manager apparently can only be accessed through settings, which if your chromebook freaks out on you either wait for it to settle down or shut it down are your only two options. Which brings us to con #3.
Freaking out - Lately I’ve been noticing that if I have too many apps open at once, my chromebook will stop funtioning properly for a couple minutes and it’ll do one of two things
shut all my apps down without warning
system reboot
Google Print - It wants to hijack your printer, but I refuse to give google access to store info from my printer. I have my Canon hooked up to my chromebook, but I won’t allow google access to it. They’re basically asking to save the info of everything you print to their servers and your printer will only be available for devices you allow access to your google print account (can’t be set up from chromebook anyway).
USB C ports - Okay admittedly I do like these ports, It serves as the charging port, so you can charge the computer on either side. You can also use it as a normal USB port so long as you find devices with the usb c tip BUT this means you need to buy an adapter if you want to use HDMI or a flash drive/other devices that use usb 2.0/3.0 ports
Speaker location - They’re on the bottom, so as long as you’re not covering them up, your audio should be pretty decent
Google Chrome - What I LOVED about using Chrome on actual laptops was that you could have several different user profiles under the same google email on your browser. I had 2. One for my personal multi fandom tumblr, and the other for my marrish tumblr accounts. That way I could just switch windows to change tumblr accounts. You can’t do that on Chromebook. You’d need to create different accounts for your log in screen… which… is it really worth creating new emails? (says the girl who creates a new email everytime she wants to get a new free trial) Now my only option is to use 3 different devices for different tumblr accounts (I just created a choices safe main blog so I can actually find choices posts without doing a ton of searching, so I need an extra layer now)
Microsoft Office/One Drive - Who’s that? We don’t like her apparently. Seriously. You can’t have microsoft office, because all downloads come from the play store. If you like the mobile version of Word, congrats! This system is a winner for you! If not, you can always use the online version on Outlook’s website if you use that. Don’t even THINK about trying to download the one drive app. Seriously, it doesn’t work on Chromebook. I’ve been trying to sign into it since I first bought this laptop. Only when I looked at the horrible reviews last week did I realize I’d NEVER be able to log into the app.
Also streaming - There’s this god awful sound that sometimes plays when streaming on the CBS website. It usually isn’t there, but I gave up on watching SWAT (sorry shemar and criminal minds, I still love you) because I never know if this’ll be the moment when that screeching will begin. It only happens on the CBS website though (while it’s hooked up to my tv)
Ooh speaking of hooking up to my tv - HDMI sucks. that’s all. I hate the border that surrounds the chromebook’s visual. And if you’re watching videos that already aren’t full screen? Good luck streaming comfortably.
Digital Textbook app used for UCF - Okay so we use Yuzu for digital textbooks at my uni and I can’t figure out how to get the app to let me in. Pretty sure that’s the app’s fault though. You have to sign in through a mobile browser to use the app, but the chromebook uses a full capacity desktop browser so I CANT log into the app. I have to use the online version if I take my chromebook to school with me instead of my actual tablet. So whether or not this is the chromebook’s fault is a bit iffy.
Here are some photos for proof if you need to see what you’d be signing up for!
Nobody can….
Instead of a “start” menu… we have a search menu. The top bar shows your most recently used apps.
#not choices#long post#sorry#anon#cg answers#i'll add a pic of the hdmi situation in a few!#tumblr really messed up the quality of those pictures

What are your thoughts on Steins;Gate
MANY, DANDY
YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW
HECK OK FINE I’LL TYPE SOME OUT,,
1) vn vs anime:the vn goes into more detail than the anime but as a result its a much bigger time investment. the anime is shorter, but that detail is lost.
i can’t speak entirely on this,, because a) i haven’t finished the original vn entirely (i got one ending) and b) s;g0′s anime has only just begun,, but as someone who watched the original anime first and then played the vn, it was an upgrade.
it takes a lot longer if you listen to the vn’s voice acting in it’s entirety (which i did bcs the voices big sexy) and it took a while to get through.... hence i,,, still haven’t finished it,, but the jokes they had to cut from the vn? the detail they went into with the science? seeing more of okabes thoughts? an upgrade. for sure.
now with zero,, ... i’d watched the original anime. i’d played the original vn. i loved them both. i had the oppourtunity to buy that game on release date, so of course i did. i wasn’t gonna wait,, nearly a year and a half for the anime to come out. i didn’t even know when it was gonna be back then!
so, as a result, i went into zero having 100%’d the vn (although i dont remember most of it). i went in with a reverse perspective,, nd the anime is a downgrade in terms of story. they have no choice but to cut stuff out,, a. heck. how long did it take me... 30 hour-50hour vn has to be compressed into an 8 hour anime. they have to cut stuff, or let the whole thing be massively rushed.
so im glad they cut stuff! you watch the anime bcs it takes less time, bcs u see them move,, you see them animated. but im inevitably gonna be comparing it to what was in the vn,, from the first episode alone,, the vn went into more detail.
i appreciate the scenes... well. scene, that the anime has added so far,, how they portrayed and added to what was in the vn whilst staying true to it,, but just because the first episode went well,, doesn’t guarantee the rest will.
s;g0 is less linear than the original vn, which makes adapting it harder. the original anime just adapted the true ending, cutting out the other ones. in s;g0, you have to get the previous endings to get the true one. i guess you could say it made better use of its vn format, but as a result, made it harder to adapt into an anime.
so even if they do manage to adapt it well,, i’m sure there’s gonna be a lot more they have to cut. and i’m worried that they’ll change things drastically in order to restructure it into a linear story.
OH and one more thing i remembered,, the s;g0 vn used sprites from the original. which,, would’ve been fine if they weren’t so blatantly different. i suspect ep1 used a scene from the original anime as well,, although i’m not sure... it was only a quick flashback anyway. but the same thing arises,, not only the outfits are different, but the characters themselves are drawn differently as well. okabe is the biggest example of this.
2) dubs vs subs
i don’t personally like dubs for several reasons. i prefer subs bcs of the voice acting, nd the fact its the original audio. and bcs im a weeb. but i’m glad they exist, bcs it makes anime available to a wider audience.
the s;g dub put me off mainly bcs of the way the names were pronounced. especially bcs, being #SubMasterRace, i watched the sub first, and inevitably ended up comparing the two. ive seen a little more of the dub now though,, so i’ll speak on it a little here.
whilst i enjoy the way the script has been rewritten, the voices in the dub portray the characters differently. kurisu nd okabe stand out the most (so far)-- in the sub, okabe is this over dramatic chuuni boy, but in the dub, he’s more serious. more articulate. he comes across as a dashing eccentric professor, instead of a chuuni mad scientist.
kurisu is,, well. less tsundere, basically. she comes across as someone who’s just annoyed/rude/standoffish in general, as opposed to being annoyed at okabe’s own rude demeanor. all tsun and no dere. more arrogant. she comes across as more reserved in the sub,, she gets snappy when she’s been riled up. she gets embarrassed nd blushu blushu sometimes.
the rest of the characters are portrayed differently as well but this is something id wanna look into more once id seen.. well, heard more of the dub. also im tired. too tired to reread this. my arms hurt. if this is confusing in some parts im sorry.

don’t get me wrong. I’d say about 75% of anime being produced right now is trash and a waste of the overworked animator’s time probably. And I feel very strongly about that like I think anime is over-produced, animators are worked too hard to produce too much mediocre anime that appeals only to its niche otaku fanbase. But that one post that is like, anime girls always looked better/more realistic in the past is such a stretch because there is still a huge variety of style and experimentation going on in modern anime but the person making the post used like. The worst examples of character design and frankly even outdated ones (Deen’s adaptation of Higurashi came out 10 years ago, at least. And it is based on a visual novel where the artists skills were clearly very limited to begin with, hence the character design is simple. Haruhi Suzumiya too.) Like I totally agree over-inflated boobs on skinny high school characters has become a disturbing fad but its also kinda. always been there. And has just gotten worse for that 75% of anime that is trash, while there have certainly been some really excellent and interesting-looking anime that came out more recently with amazing character design. And this got kind of lengthy so I’m putting it under a break; im sorry mobile users if it doesn’t break properly. And I dont mean this as offense to the original post or people who have reblogged it I just want to add some of my own observations about ‘modern’ anime
Here is one of my favorite anime ever, which came out 6 years ago. Kyousougiga is a very lively and interesting anime, and with the exception of the father and daughter who are identical (for plot valid reasons being direct reincarnations of each other) the entire family looks different and interesting and they’re all fun and reasonably designed. In fact I think part of the appeal of it is how cartoonish and fun it is compared to a lot of recent anime.
psycho pass; meant to eventually be translatable to live adaptation so the characters were more realistically designed. Two of the characters are baby-faced but still clearly meant to be adults. The ‘moe’ factor is very limited, they look like they could be real people.
I don’t really need to explain why PSG is such an interesting choice of animation style but I would like to note that despite being utter fanservice nonsense neither of them are that ridiculously proportioned. Like. Stocking has big boobs but they dont look like literal watermelons taped to her chest, you know? (well, sometimes. Mostly used in ridiculous scenes meant to parody bad fanservice and its Funny)
literally every character in mob psycho 100 looks like. This. And the style shifts during serious moments to give people ridiculously over-rendered realistic faces which it does equally with male and female characters.
Red Garden came out around the same time as Higurashi and Haruhi. Every single character has their own unique facial shape, body type, and style. its also an incredible feminist anime and the first half of it is like. Amazing. if you can stomach the kinda. terrible audio frequencies of the dub.
Like I can cherry-pick anime all day and I would definitely say Most anime being produced now is trash and most styles have diluted down to a very boring and baby-faced generic. But there is so much good stuff being produced now/in the past ten years and so much of it is like, the type of stuff we Never would have gotten back in the 80s/90s. The animation quality improved bc of increased knowledge of the media and how to create shortcuts that save animators on time and budget. Like I honestly just wish there wasn’t. So -much- anime produced, that animators could focus on the materials they like instead of being forced to mass output generic ass light novel adaptations. But using things like Haruhi and Higurashi which are 10 years old and like, discounting all the things between then and now that are really amazing quality and interesting character design choices...e
Studios like SHAFT, Ufotable and Kyoani are still adding so much to the table since then. (all 3 studios that tend to default to sameface syndrome but only due to the same-faced character designs in the light novels they tend to adapt; as you can see each studio actually has a huge variety of styles they can execute) Studios like Trigger that broke off from Gainax are still amazing; there are individual animators and character designers that have come about recently that I admire SO much
[the character designer of the katanagatari light novels is amazing and the style is so cool and different]
keep in mind what tends to happen here is the original story or light novel either had an artist who was not...that great (The first adaptions of Higurashi and F/SN were stiff and awkward and terrible) so what the animation studio has to work with is very limited. Most of them still manage to do a commendable job bringing life to these things though!! When a more talented character designer is brought in it’s usually because the anime is an original adaptation and the artist was paid specifically to design the cast of that show. What happens most of the time is, a visual novel or a light novel author gets a close friend to do the art, and the writing carries the art, not the other way around. When those things get adapted it becomes a sort of...interesting challenge, I think, for animators to interpret that generic and bland style into something lively.
[pictured: aku no hana actually trolled its moe fanbase with a rotoscoped realistic adaptation. And I fucking love it]
long story short: most anime is. bland. OK. whatever. in any decade. But since there is So Much anime being produced now. I’d actually say its improved. You’d never have gotten shit like Aku no Hana back in the 80s. The style and quality of mob psycho 100 is unparalleled. There are good and bad design choices in every decade, but you need to take the source material into account too

Nahum 1:1-3:19, Revelations 8:1-13, Psalms 136:1-26, Proverbs 30:7-9
Today is the 17th day of December. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It's great to be here with you at the cusp, at the threshold, of a shiny, sparkly new week. And this is a big week. I mean, one week from today is Christmas Eve, which makes today the third Sunday in the season of Advent. And that distant day, that distant beacon, that's on every calendar, December 25th, Christmas Day, that we see all year long, that’s been so far off in the distance is upon us now. And we’ll be making final transitions during this week. We’ll touch eight different books of the Bible. And by the time we get to the end of this week we will be settled into the final books of the Old and New Testaments as we press forward to the to the new year. So, let's jump in. We’re going to read from the Old Testament, the entirety of the book of Nahum.
Nahum:
Nahum is another of the books of minor prophecy, which has nothing to do with significance and more to do with length. And, in some ways, we get a peek into the into the continuation of the story of Jonah. Right? So, Jonah was sent to Nineveh, we don’t have to retell that story. He was sent to Nineveh and they repent. Nahum is another book of prophecy written to the city of Nineveh. So, it's 150 years later. So, a century and half earlier, God sent Jonah to the city and when he delivered God's message Nineveh fell on its face and repented and were spared. Now, 150 years later, they’ve returned to their wicked ways and are as bad, if not worse, than they ever were. Nineveh was the capital city of the great Assyrian Empire and its conquests were known to be very brutal. And again, God sends a profit to Nineveh, Nahum, preaching repentance and a return to God. But this time the Ninevites did not listen and the prophecy of judgment came true in 625 BC with the destruction of Nineveh and the fall of the Assyrian Empire. This prophecy shows that God is merciful and patient, but He is not a pushover, and He will not stand for a nation's sin forever, which should spur us all on to be agents of change in the countries that we live, to be the catalyst for light and for repentance and a return to our God. So, we’ll be reading from the Names of God Bible this week. Nahum chapter 1 verse 1 through 3 verse 19.
Commentary:
Okay. So, in the book of Revelation, you know, we began with seven golden lampstands, and then seven letters to seven churches, and then seven seals that no one but the lamb could open. And he opened six of them and we went through that and then today we get to the seventh seal. And, so as we begin our reading today, when he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And that's a pretty dramatic scene, to think about silence in heaven for half an hour. And that silence has been contemplated for a long time, as has every other word in this book. Some scholars think that the silence has to do with the fact that as the seventh seal is broken and opened, there's no content, there's nothing to be revealed, and the content of the seventh scroll is contained in the actions that happen next. Some have said that because it's the seventh seal, there was a pause and God rested, in sort of Sabbath imagery. Some connect the silence to do a suspension of divine revealing or disclosure, or revelation. So, then you’ve got to try figure out how long half an hour in heaven, what that represents to time on earth, which is a tricky thing to do. Some would say it's just a moment of silence because of what's coming next. And others would say everyone is just simply struck to complete silence as the complete plan is finally revealed. And that’s just a few thoughts. Either way, there was silence in heaven for a half an hour as the seventh seal is opened. And then seven angels who stand in God's presence were given seven trumpets. And a lot of times these seven angels are associated with the seven archangels that are found in Jewish apocalyptic literature. For example, we talked about them when we talked about the book of Enoch. So, a lot of interpreters think these are the seven archangels. These the main angels in God's presence. And then another angel comes with a gold incense burner and stands at the altar, and he has incense to offer before the throne. And, so, he’s offering incense and also at the same time, the prayers of God's people are being offered. And, so, the smoke from the incense goes up before God, along with the prayers of God's people to God. And this imagery is ancient. And it’s still being used in the world today. So, depending on what kind of church that you go to, you may experience this every week, but no matter what kind of church you go to, you’ve probably seen it before, where, you know, a church service is starting, priests come in, they’re carrying certain things, like, they’re processing the cross, and maybe they have candles, and somebody has an incense burner and they’re swinging it. Right? And, so, the smoke is flowing out over the people as they process in. That's what this represents, a pleasing aroma intermingled with the prayers of God's people. That's what it symbolizes. So, whether or not you like smells and bells in your worship experience, this is happening in heaven before the throne of God in the book of Revelation, which is not to say, this needs to happen in your church on Sunday. It’s just to say, this is how these traditions are born. They’re aren’t these weirdo things usually. They have a rootedness in something ancient and when you understand them they bring meaning. And, so, after this after these prayers are offered to God along with the incense, the angel then takes the incense burner and fills it with fire from the altar and hurls it down upon the earth. And, yea, then things get a little crazy - thunder noise, lightning, an earthquake, and then the seven angels who have the seven trumpets get ready to blow them. And we don't get through all seven trumpet blasts in our reading today. We get through the first four. And many scholars and interpreters of the book of Revelation associate the things that happen after the trumpets are blown. So, for example, the first trumpet’s blown and hail and fire mixed with blood are thrown down on the earth. The second one blows his trumpet and a huge, something like a huge, mountain is thrown into the sea and one of the one third of the seas turn into blood. The third angel blows his trumpet, a huge star flaming like a torch falls from the sky and one third of the rivers and the springs, the waters turn bad. And the fourth trumpet blows and a third of the sun, a the third of the moon, and a the third of the stars are struck, so everything is darkened. Many scholars and interpreters find the pattern here to be very reminiscent of the plagues that were sent in the book of Exodus upon the Egyptians to set God's people free, and that this, in fact, is the point of how God's judgment works. Some people will receive the freedom brought from the refinement of judgment. Some people's hearts will be hardened to it and they will subsequently be destroyed by it. And that holds a lot of water because that's thematic in the Bible and helps us have a better understanding of God's judgment and what it does. Those who are righteous, those who are true, those who are pure, who have to endure suffering and hardship are refined by it and we find that all throughout the New Testament writings. And, so, the way we have to look at that is that our endurance is bringing about in us something far more mature and strong and loyal and faithful, within us. It is sanctifying us. It is re-creating us in the image of the Savior, and is a necessary part of our transformation, our being reborn. So, a person who looks at what they're facing from this perspective understands that all things are being worked together for our good, even if we lose our life in the process because we've learned to not hold onto it. We know that losing it is actually gaining it and nothing can take us from the presence of God. Nothing can steal us away. And we begin to realize that the presence of God is the one and only thing we can't live without. So, when judgment and hardship are on the earth and we encounter it, it is doing something completely different in us than those whose hearts are being hardened by it and to it and who are rejecting God. They will ultimately find justice in their own destruction, in their own hard heartedness, in what they bring down upon themselves, whereas those who are being true are being refined, purified. And because we’re kind of moving into this territory. You know, the argument of, well, what about the rapture? Who’s going to go through this stuff? Won't we be long gone and not have to experience in any or will we actually have to experience some or all of this? How is that going to work? Well, let's wait and see how this whole story unfolds before us. So far, and were eight chapters into the book of Revelation, so far we could say, okay, we’re not trying to do a bunch of interpretation here, we’re just trying to move through this territory and point out things and understand what the Revelation is saying and how it has been interpreted in widely diverse ways. So far, we haven’t encountered anything like what we would call the rapture. We have encountered that yet. And we’ll see if we do or where we do as we move forward. But one thing that we can say for certain that were seeing is that, as believers, our lampstand, our light has to be burning, and we have to stay true. Those are both necessary. And we looked, pretty extensively, at what that actually looks like when we were looking at the seven short letters to the seven churches. And we can also say that remaining true in spite of hardship or tribulation is imperative because what we might be going through is doing something completely different in us than those who are hardhearted and rejecting it. When we stay true, when our light is burning, when we are faithful to the message of Jesus we are changing things around us. And as we change things around us it is changing us to the point that, in the end, even if we have to die, even if we have to lose our lives, we haven't lost our life, it can't be taken from us. These things we can say that we are, for sure, learning in the book of Revelation.
Prayer:
Father, we invite You into that because so much…anytime we talk about suffering…anytime we talk about tribulation it freaks us out. In part, because of this book of Revelation, and part because it has pictures in it of things that we would rather not see. And yet You are showing us this is how the new thing that You are doing is born and You have personally invited us to be a part of the story by continuing to bring light and life and good news into this world as we lose ourselves further and further in our relationship with You, as we lose our grip on what we think we can control and find ourselves in You. So, come Holy Spirit. Continue the work that You have begun in us. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports:
Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. This is my first time to call. I’m calling from Nebraska. And I’m calling because I just heard the prayer request from the woman in Wisconsin who is upset about her cousin getting married and I just want to encourage you, I’m sorry I don’t remember your name, but God knows, that His love for you has nothing to do with the actions of your cousin. When you were a child and now, your love and your relationship with God is completely separate. And I just pray that God would reveal himself to you in a completely new way, that you would come to understand His love in such a fresh way that your life would no longer be mixed up with your cousins actions or your actions as a child, that you’d be able to step into your future in a new relationship with the Lord. I pray this for you in Jesus name. Amen.
Good morning guys. This is Jenn in SoCal, AKA Prayer Warrior Princess. Joyce, in California, I hear so many people calling who love and support you, who are rooting for you. I understand that none of us can replace and heal the wounded soul areas that were created by what happened with your family, but we are all intimately connected with the one who can. You struck a chord with all of us and it’s evident you can count on us to intercede with Him for your victory. I'm going to remember you each year on December 20th because you share your birthday with my dad. Long after the echoes of your prayer request cease to ring in our ears from your call, they’re going to resonate in my heart each year. I bless you with quiet confidence, with securely anchored hope in Christ, with satiety, with the mind of Christ, and the power to think differently, according to His direction. May your soul tell your thought that I have enough, I am enough, I give and receive enough. May contentment flood your bones and refresh your parched cleff. May you consistently awaken with a strong sense of the Holy Spirit befriending you, seeing over you, delighting in you, encouraging you, upholding you, and propelling you forward, forgetting what lies behind and running your race with endurance as this great cloud of witnesses cheers for you. We love you Joyce. Victory in Jesus for you. Amen.
This is Claudia from Oroville, California. I want to pray that Christmas blessings of reconciliation for families that are difficult take place. Thank you, Daily Audio Bible.
Hi family. It’s Shannon from Texas again. And I called earlier today about my friend Sonya’s mom Rosie G. Rosie did not make it. It was unexpected. She went into septic shock. Sonya was forced to…not forced…but…she had to make a choice to take her mother off of life support because as she wasn’t going to make it…and it was awful. But just please lift her up. She lived with her mom and they came…fled to Texas together…and Sonja had her daughter removed by CPS after reporting some sexual abuse and her daughter’s for now in California and Sonja is left by herself. And I just can’t fathom the thought of her going back home. I’ve invited her to stay with me, but I don’t know if she’s going to do it. And she’s in the house by herself, doesn’t really have friends or family in Texas. And not even going to have anybody to put together a funeral for her mom. She needs it…she’s kind of…just now getting off of some prescription medication that she’s been addicted to and she’s gotten really close with the Lord, but, amen, she really, really needs the prayers because this is…this is hard on her. So, please lift her up. We know where her mother is. Rosie was an amazing lady, but she had a tough, tough life. She almost stressed herself to death, if she didn’t stress herself to death. She trusted the Lord. But she spent the last few weeks of her life worrying about Sonja and those kids. So, please lift them up. Lift Sonja up in her family situation. I don’t want her to be by herself right now. I will she’s not, but I love you and appreciate your prayers.
Hello DAB family. My name is Darren. This is my first year in sitting by the campfire with you guys and my first time calling. I honestly thought I was going to be able to ease through the end of the year without calling in and sharing my heart, but this morning my heart was just broken by a message that I heard from Marked as His, I believe, was her name, from Baltimore, Wisconsin. I wanted to let you know three things. The first thing is is that I thought you were so brave to share your story. And the second is that we are your family. We do love you. I don't know you but my heart broke so I know that we are connected and God has connected us through the power of his Holy Spirit and through this ministry. So, we are your family. You know, as Jesus said in Matthew 12:49. But you said a couple of things and I wanted to share part of my story. You were saying that you were dealing with some anxiety and self-doubt and what I’ve learned is is that to find the underlying emotion underneath that. And mine was anger. I was so angry that I felt that I had been robbed of something and that no one understood, but then God showed me in Proverbs 18:21 that there is life and death in the power of the tongue. And what you were saying, you know, that you wanted to be married, certainly, but that God was playing a joke on you and that you got the raw end of the deal. Certainly, I know sister, that was just your heart speaking and that I could tell that you don’t truly believe that, but we have to speak it as we know that it is and that it is only a trial and a test and something to get you off the path that God has called you for. And believe me, if the devil messed with you so…
