september brings crisper air and a pit of anxiety scraping the bottom of her stomach. just last year, it was her with her bag over her shoulder and a pile of books that she clung to her chest like a shield. she can remember them now: the count of m.onte c.risto, the age of i.nnocence, tess of the d'urb.ervilles... fifteen by b.everley clearly. last year, her head was full of the idea that she wouldn't in hawkins when next year's school year began. diploma in clutch, she would be driving away. whether that be on a bus or train. as long as she wasn't choking on her guardian's colonge.

there's a book awkwardly sat on her lap now. one hand keeps it in place, the other curls into the grass as she catches glimpses of children and teenagers of loch nora coming back home after a long first day. they bid her no mind. johanna wishes she could go back in time to warn herself last year. but her spirits are uplifted when she sees jane. she is quick to wave the girl over. ( she would run to her if she couldn't, but getting up from the grass is far from the easiest thing for her now. baby kicks her as a reminder. )
