if they didn’t want me to fall madly in love with BOTH Raoul and the Phantom they shouldn’t have had the Phantom’s first real singing part been him belting “Insolent boy, this slave of fashion”
there’s just something about the angry perversion of the soft “Angel of Music” melody and the power behind the phantom’s voice that shows how dangerous this ‘Angel’ really is. his introduction— filled with beautiful music and absolute rage and jealousy— just absolutely overtakes you.
and then when it’s mixed with the degradation of Raoul as a suitor for Christine and a man in general… the phantom isn’t entirely WRONG, of course. Raoul does very much seem to know how to get along in “proper” society. but he is also willing to die for Christine at the end of the show, so he isn’t as frivolous as the phantom wants to believe either.
it’s such a good character introduction for both of them and it just GETS ME EVERY TIME

So when Italy does an English-language production of The Phantom of the Opera, they get Ramin Karimloo and some wild stunts on a flaming chandelier?
But when Finland does an English-language production of The Phantom of the Opera, we get an all-Finnish cast with one Estonian exception, and a bland direction with hardly any visuals to write home about?
How’s that fair, I’m just asking??

I'm trying to be positive so here's some things I liked about S2:
Tumblr media
Jace's hair
The costumes, the cinematography, the set designs
THE MUSIC! RAMIN DJAWADI NEVER DISAPPOINTS
Jace being a sassy little king in ep4. He was sooo pissed at Nyra. It was giving Mrs Weasley in the Chamber of Secrets lol
All the dragons we got to see. Beautiful fire-breathing, sky puppies! They did nothing wrong and they don't deserve this 😤
Aemond continues to serve looks. I dislike him but dammit does he look good. Best wig in the show for sure.
"THE KING IS MY GRANDSON AND MY GRANDSON IS A FOOL!"
Simon Strong was so wholesome
Helaena just being on screen
The entire argument between Nyra and Daemon
"To indulge the darkness you keep sheathed within you like a blade"
Ugh, love that line!
Gwayne. From the very first moment he appeared on the screen. Idk why but I like him.
All the BTS stuff we got
Rook's Rest killed me! I legitimately sobbed for like thirty minutes after I realized omg Rhaenys is gone! for good!
Cregan! I wish we saw more of him tbh
Jeyne Arryn. She seemed like such an interesting person and her story is pretty interesting so I'm not sure why we got so little of her
RHAENYS UGHHH! MELEYS!

What kind of Music do they Listen to 🎵 🎧
Masterlist | Rules
Content: Headcanons
Warning: None
Pairing(s): None
Character(s): Percy, Jason, Frank, Leo, Nico, Annabeth, Piper
Tumblr media
Percy Jackson
Let’s be realistic here
Percy is a kid from New York
I know nothing about New York expect it was stolen from my ancestors and that it had some crazy shit happening in the 70s
And whatever was in Hamilton
I feel like Percy would listen to a mix of rap and mainstream music
He would listen to Kendrick Lamar, Lil Mabu, Eminem, Kanye (I know he’s a weird and bad guy), and Tyler, the Cartor
He thinks he can rap
He can not
But will try for anyone who lets him
Jason Grace
2000s white girl songs
Rihanna, Fergie, Kesha, you know the classics
Who doesn’t love that genre of white girl music
It happy and classic
But also a huge fan of the Fleet Foxes
And that of course means he loves father john misty and Lana Del rey
Frank Zhang
I just know Frank listens to Canadian artists
Like everything from Nickelback to The Tragically Hip
But also bands like Mother Mother
And the Weekend
And Drake
And Justin Bieber
But his music taste isn’t limited to Canadian classics
He loves ambiance music/Brown noise
Sometimes, he just wants to listen to nothing but something
Leo Valdez
Country
Not like “I hate my wife” Country
Let’s not forget Leo is from Taxes
He obviously loves the classic like Marty Robbins
But I see him listening to Zach Bryne, Dolly Parton, and Carrie Underwood
You can’t convenience me that he doesn’t love the song “Before He Cheats”
That shit was blasting when Argo II was being built
He gets into the music
Like screams it while it plays
Doesn’t matter if he is with other people
I also get the vibe he would listen to some Spanish artists
Like oldies.  Stuff his grandfather and mother would have listened to
Because the people you grow up with influence your music
Artist like: Chavela Vargas, Jeanette, and Eydi Gormé
Nico Di Angelo
Old man Nico would listen to Italian music
But as he gets older I see him listening to artists like Radiohead or The Smiths
Because he is a bit of a sad boy
Maybe even some more modern Italian musicians like Fiordaliso or
Would also get into Ska Music
Specially 2 tone Ska
I see him liking The Specials, Prince Buster, and Madness
He would also love Amy Winehouse
Annabeth Chase
Movie/TV soundtracks
Loves the song where it’s all instrumental
I think she would be a huge fan of Bear McCreary, Ramin Djawadi, and Hans Zimmer
She wouldn’t even watch the show the songs are in
She just enjoys the sound of music
When she does eventually watch movies, you know the Prince of Egypt soundtrack took her out
Piper Mclean
I think she would be a HUGE Dido, Kate Bush, Cranberries fan
Would also be the type to have their music influenced by Tiktok
Nothing wrong with that
It happens to me
The top song is Grafton Street by Dido
Loves Fleetwood Mac
And Florance & the Mechian

What are some musicals that aren’t that popular you’d recommend?
sorry this is gonna be a LONG ONE you asked the secret question to get me to ramble
In the Light is an adaptation of Faust and is a musical I have been absolutely OBSESSED with for the past like two years. It has a STACKED cast with Jeremy Jordan, Bobby Conte Thorton, and Ciara Renee among others. If you like a good tenor song or big group numbers this musical is absolutely for you. Also everyone’s gay? I’d recommend More, He is No Man, Rise or Fall, and Catch the Moon!
Broken Wings is a biographical musical. It really shines in its duets/small group numbers! The songs are just so beautifully written they give me chills listening to them, and the instrumentals are so gorgeous sometimes I mentally tune out the vocals to focus on them. I’d recommend Selma and Til Death Reunites Us!
Rumi is by the same people who wrote Broken Wings, and has Ramin Karimloo in its main cast! Like Broken Wings its got gorgeous instrumentals that on their own make the musical worth listening to. That said, vocals in this are absolutely stunning in this, too. Another one with super strong male parts that are just a delight to listen to. My favorite songs from it are When, Lighting, Find My Guide, and Say Who Am I!
Death Takes a Holiday has been my favorite musical for a long long time, though it’s definitely the least contemporary sounding out of everything on this list. It’s a good mix of comedy and drama, and what’s not to like about death experiencing eating eggs for the first time. Some of the songs are a bit of a doozy but they’ve all grown on me. You should listen to Death is in the House, I Thought That I Could Live, More and More, Alive, and Alone Here With You :3
Honorable mentions to Beyond the Door, Burn with Me from, and Cold Hard Ground because they’re the only songs from their respective musicals that I like

A tentative and not-so-short rundown of The Reunion 24/01/18 opening night. Ramin & Hadley centric.
Act 1
There's scripted talking in between the first few songs to introduce everyone. I say scripted because there are Chinese subtitles on the side screens.
Man of La Mancha: Ramin+Earl
Earl did the squeaky Sancho voice he was hilarious
I've Decided to Marry You: Hadley+Natalie+Holly
Holly is so sweet I'm officially a fan
Hard to Speak My Heart: Hadley's solo
This is Hadley's only solo, honestly, I'm a bit disappointed BUT he nailed it as always, what can I say the man is perfect. Also, talk about aging like fine wine. He was in full suit & tie in Act 1, I was looking through binoculars & shaking he's so handsome.
What Baking Can Do: Samantha solo
Journey to the Past: Samantha's solo
I don't have much commentary for Sam because honestly, I think her brilliance is like. A given fact at this point. Everyone should just acknowledge that she's perfect. End of discussion.
Come What May
Evermore
For Good
My memory has failed me. I think Come What May was Samantha+Natalie+Holly. Evermore was Ramin+Holly. I'm not sure.
Love Finds You: Ramin+Holly+Natalie+Hadley+Earl
Much better than the meet&greet version. More put together. Although I think the band fucked up a bit at the end.
After this song there's a short POTO entr'acte. They had installed chandeliers on the stage so they were lowered for the next few songs.
Think of Me: Holly+Hadley
Holly is so sweet. Hadley ran up the stage to sing "Can it be Christine". Lots of screaming.
All I Ask of You: Hadley+Holly
I'm aware there are comments online about Hadley!Raoul being a bit mean/harsh/demanding/whatever, BUT this version. THIS VERSION. Hadley's voice was so soft and gentle, he was smiling and gazing at Holly the whole time. At the ending bit when Raoul & Christine were supposed to kiss, Hadley does a little bow and kisses the back of Holly's hand. THEY'RE SO CUTE I CAN'T TAKE IT. Although I'm kinda getting sibling/bestie vibes from them lol.
Music of the Night: Ramin's solo
Classic & perfect.
20 minutes intermission
Act 2
Into the Unknown: Samantha+Holly+Everyone else in the back
Holly did the "voice calling to Elsa" part, everyone else was harmonizing in the background. Such a powerful beginning to the second act. Again, Samantha, QUEEN.
Heart of Stone: Natalie
I was shocked in all the good ways, Natalie's voice was so powerful it was mind-blowing. The band fucked up big time here but she saved it, she's amazing.
Love Me Anyway: Ramin+Natalie+Hadley on guitar
This song is by Pink, I think, and the only song that's not from a musical. Hadley has a few bars of beautiful guitar solo right in the middle and I'm pretty sure Ramin & I were wearing the same expression.
There's a bit of talking at this point from Ramin and Hadley, improv & not scripted. I'm getting FTRR vibes, they're so relaxed and comfortable with each other. Ramin jokes about Hadley's first time singing AIAOY after the 25th anniversary, and Hadley goes: is this your first time singing MOTN? They laugh and Hadley hums that meme sound effect (idek how to describe it), Ramin *singing along*: "No." Oh I love these two.
The Other Side: Hadley+Ramin
Hadley as Barnum and Ramin as Philip, I mean, wait what? But it worked guys it worked. And Hadley's version, the way he lowers his voice... is actually really sexy? (the friend I went with: it's not talking business it's seduction) I'm so confused.
Who I'd Be: Hadley+Ramin+Holly
This trio is gold.
I'm All Alone: Hadley+Ramin+Earl
They made this song hilarious. Ramin and Hadley making funny faces behind Earl and talking quietly while Earl was getting bullied singing "I'm all alone" (Ramley in the back, with an eye roll and a shrug acting all exasperated: "Yeah. He's all alone")
Till I hear you sing: Ramin solo
KING. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BE NORMAL AFTER THIS?
I Dreamed a Dream: Natalie's solo
Again, Natalie has a resonating, powerful voice, and this song shows it.
Stars: Earl solo
How does he go from laughing and joking to full-on Javert mode in 5 seconds I will never fully understand. Amazed.
Heart full of love: Hadley+Holly
Another dream come true moment of hearing Hadley!Marius. If I'm honest this couldn't beat the 22-year-old Hadley version but again let's talk about aging like fine wine...
On My Own: Samantha
There was a suspended moment after "a world that's full of happiness that I have never known" & I'm pretty sure the entire room was collectively holding their breath. I don't think my words are ever going to be adequate to describe Sam's performance.
Bring Him Home: Ramin solo+Hadley on guitar
Them gazing at each other for 3 minutes. On the last note Ramin messed up a little, he turns to Hadley like "sos I fucked up" and Hadley takes his hand. During the meet&greet Hadley said Ramin was a bit sick so I guess he's not yet at his 100% (Last night Hadley was still coughing a bit as well, at stage door he was wearing two layers of jackets lol), but they're both looking (and sounding) much better.
One Day More: Everyone
Ramin as Enjolras. OMG. I think there's video online guys go see for yourselves.
Aaaand I think that's all.

I’ve just watched the 2004 poto: (obviously spoilers)
I thought it was worse, ngl. I did really enjoy it (did not cry just because I’ve seen the ALW musical before)
There are some things they added that I really liked: for example the sword fight (in the 25th anniversary the 3 of them are singing and in the Book Raoul faints after seeing Erik inside the mausoleum [is that it’s English name???]). Also the trap with water was a nice touch, not like the “mermaid” (sirena in Italian, idk if it has a different name in English) but a lil nod to Erik having a shit ton of trapdoors and traps. Also that lil “game” of cat and mouse with Jason Bouquet (was this his name?), a bit hilarious, ngl.
It took me a bit to enjoy Gerald’s singing, he wasn’t bad, he did a good job considering that it’s not his main thing, but I admit that I was spoiled by Ramin’s singing in the 25th anniversary.
There are some things that I’ve preferred in the 25th: like THAT CRAWLING SCENE when he’s first unmasked, my goodness! Or how the Phantom acted more with his body (maybe it has more do to with the difference between movie and play? Idk). The play of Don Juan And the singing, obviously (also the “SING FOR ME” part).
One thing that I’ve absolutely hated was the deformity… C’mon man… It was pretty tame, they were pussies about it :(
Ayo, the open shirt ,’:) that was just fan-service (not completely complaining tho)
They gave a yee yee ass haircut to Raoul, poor mf (didn’t mind him, tho)
Tho the most important thing is that I watched the movie with a friend of mine, this was her introduction to The Phantom of the Opera (like many others) and SHE HAS PUT THE NOVEL ON HER READING LIST!!!! SHE ENJOYED THE MOVIE SM THAT WANTS TO READ THE BOOK, I HOPE SHE DOES. I love dragging people into my brainrots. She loved Christine and was torn between Erik (or in this case, The Phantom) and Raoul :D
Now the whole monkey thing is much clearer.
Edit: La Carlotta has a horrible accent… My goodness I hope I don’t sound like that while speaking English -_-
G’night

"Les Misérables" musical character interpretations: Enjolras
Next on my list of characterization comparisons: our favorite revolutionary leader, Enjolras.
Once again, each of these three interpretations can work by themselves, or else they can be combined with each other. For example, I've found that some of the best Enjolras actors (e.g. Anthony Warlow, Ramin Karimloo, Kevin Earley) have combined "the Soldier" with "the Marble Lover of Liberty." And while Aaron Tveit's movie Enjolras is basically "the Marble Lover of Liberty," he's more subdued and boyish than most stage examples, with a possible undertone of "the Young Student."
While writing this, I also remembered the 2011 fan comic Enjolras and His Singing Brethren. Of course that comic isn't really a comparison of different characterizations, but mainly a way to praise David Thaxton's Enjolras and to make fun of Michael Maguire, Drew Sarich, and various bad actors in the role. But connections can still be drawn between my more earnest comparison and that silly one. A "G.I. Jolras" is "the Soldier," obviously; an "OMGjolras" is "the Young Student"; and a "Pwnjolras" is either "the Marble Lover of Liberty" or that type crossed with "the Soldier." A "Hunjolras" is just "the Soldier" overacted, while a "Hohumjolras" and an "Umm?jolras" are just weak actors with no stage presence.
The Soldier
Tumblr media
This robust, fiery Enjolras lacks the ethereal qualities of Hugo’s Enjolras, but he compensates with his unbreakable fighting spirit. While dignified, he’s also quite a rabble-rouser, who blazes with anger at injustice and charges into battle with the force of a cannon. His passion and vigor can be heard in his frequent emphatic shouts (“Where are the SWELLS who run this show?!” “…to call them TO ARMS!” “DAMN their lies!” etc.) and seen in his commanding presence on the barricade. Rather than Hugo’s “flower,” this Enjolras is a sturdy, towering tree. At times he might seem almost smug, and he might seem slightly overbearing and preachy toward Marius in “Red and Black.” Nonetheless, he earns our admiration with his staunch courage and our sympathy with his devotion to his friends. This Enjolras will be warm and demonstrative toward the other students, evoking the deep bonds of military comrades, and to Marius he’ll be like an older brother, sometimes impatient yet fiercely protective and caring. At first, he might have little patience for Grantaire, but will sincerely strive to convert him to idealism too, and will ultimately give him a heartfelt reconciliation, either in “Drink With Me” or in “The Final Battle.” His two truly vulnerable moments are after Gavroche’s death and, more briefly, Marius’s apparent death: while outwardly stoic, he’ll convey silent desolation at both. But then his grief will turn to fearsome rage, and he’ll charge onward to make the enemy bleed while he can. Although he dies, his strength and fire will never be forgotten.
The Young Student
Tumblr media
This Enjolras can best be compared to the student protestors of the 1960s, or possibly to John F. Kennedy. A passionate, charismatic idealist, whose vision for the future is grand and inspiring, but whose youth and inexperience make him unprepared for the battle, which he pays for in blood. His courage and zeal for the cause are just as fiery as the Soldier’s, but he lacks the Soldier’s sturdiness: instead, his fire is wildfire, blazing with boyish energy. The news of Lamarque’s death might make him nearly manic with excitement because the chance for revolution he’s been waiting for has come. Yet he can be kind and gentle too, and in his idealism, he relates to everyone – whether the poor in “Look Down,” or his beloved friends, or strangers – as an equal. When he lectures Marius or snaps at Grantaire, it never seems too harsh, because there’s no air of superiority in it. And as the barricade scenes unfold, though he stays strong on the surface, private expressions reveal his increasing distress, fear, and struggle to lead as the rebellion’s doom becomes clear. This might culminate in a total breakdown at Gavroche’s death, where he collapses in utter anguish and tears; or if not there, he might do it soon afterward over Marius’s “dead” body. (Or in a non-replica staging, over the body of Grantaire if he dies first.) But even if he doesn’t break down, we’ll feel his despair. Nonetheless, in his last moments, he picks himself up and faces his foes in a blaze of courage and defiance. Hugo’s “marble” Enjolras he isn’t, but as an all too young, very human martyr, he’s compelling in his own way.
The Marble Lover of Liberty
Tumblr media
This is Enjolras as Hugo wrote him, at least as much as the musical allows. He lacks either the Soldier’s machismo or the Young Student’s liveliness and vulnerability, but instead comes across as an almost angelic symbol of revolutionary idealism. His demeanor is stern, thoughtful, and defined by stately dignity and quiet strength. While his anger at injustice and his fervor for revolution are clear, and while there might be a subtle quality of wildness in his passion, he isn’t defined by fire. His anger is controlled and even-toned, not loud, and he’s able to command without aggression, but with a meaningful stare or simple gesture alone. When he sings of the future, gazing into the distance with a beatific expression, we see what defines this Enjolras: a shining vision of justice and freedom, which he worships with priestly devotion. He might come across as slightly cold and aloof, especially compared to his friends. But in his own quiet way, he’ll make his love for them clear. He likely won’t be overbearing toward Marius in “Red and Black,” but gently reason with him, outlining what he views as objective facts. He might treat Grantaire with cold disdain until the end, or he might show him a blend of frustration and caring from the start, but either way, their ultimate reconciliation will be meaningful and moving. As the barricade’s fall draws near, his sadness is quietly felt, but he never breaks. He dies with the same dignity, courage, and majestic idealism with which he lived. The sight of his body will inspire not just sadness, but reverence, and the resolve to keep his ideals alive.
More comparisons to come!

Anyway, this is the update how am I doing so far. I really end up extracting the whole show. I got like 80% of progress already. I notice some part of the recording has that annoying clicking sound. I don't know because the quality of the video from bilibili, problem when the video was streamed and screen recorded by OP, or because technical problems during the streaming itself (likely this). I try to remove it as best as I can but some part I just let it be like that because it's too hard to remove and I'm not that good in sound editing. My tools are after all just my macbook, airpods, audacity, and bunch of free AI softwares :")
This part from City of Angels. I don't know anything about this musical except that Hadley was in it and damn this is so good.
Ramin channeling his inner Gleb Vaganov. To be honest, I don't really like the stage musical version of Anastasia. I don't enjoy Christy Altomare's voice as much as the original animation so I prefer listen to that album rather than the OBC. All of Gleb's part sounds good in live performances but actually meh on the OBC album, idk, it's just sounds too loud I guess. But I like this version of Still. Still, not really a huge fan, but still, still, STILL!!!!
They did this in the exact way they did it in 2016 except this time it's just with a piano and Hadley remembers everything *chef kiss
