okay iā€™m thinking about fhsy in the context of fhjy because it is SO wild that kipperlily sees the bad kids as being favored when i always felt like the very premise of sophomore year especially was created by unfairness. they were forced to spend their BREAK on a PASS/FAIL project that was worth so much of their grade that failing it meant failing the year no matter how much effort they had put in up to that point. like that is not a favor

i think benny aches to be accepted :( that's why the club means to much to him :( that's why johnny means so much to him :( that's why you mean so much to him :( he just wants to be accepted n'he knows he doesn't have much to offer - his childhood fucked 'em up - n'he doesn't really know how to be part of a functioning society but he wants to try. you give him the courage to try because if someone so good and so pure and so perfect can give him a chance, maybe, just maybe, he's worth fightin' for. maybe he's got somethin' to offer and so you tell him every single day that he's so so worthy of love. so worthy of staying. so worthy of creating a worthwhile life for himself :( you tell 'em you love 'em and you hold 'em extra tight on nights when it's hard and you refuse to let go because benny is worth it. you accept him in all forms of the word nā€™youā€™re gonna love him til the world falls apart.

I love learning all these little, weird things about the characters in Disco Elysium. Like, is Bird's Nest Roy not one of the weirdest little guys you've ever met?
He doesn't like beaches.
Tumblr media
He doesn't like music...
Tumblr media
... but he records random sounds...
Tumblr media
... including the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua.
Tumblr media
He also spends about 10% of any given interaction spacing out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But to get a little more serious, I think there's a lot more to him. I even think it's possible to draw parallels between Bird's Nest Roy and Lt. Kim Kitsuragi.
He, like Lt. Kitsuragi with the RCM, was part of a voluntary clean-up organization...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
... despite knowing it wouldn't do much good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's also very willing to look away and distance himself from things of which he doesn't approve or doesn't want to get entangled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this very same exchange, you can see Lt. Kitsuragi try to distance himself from your bad decisions in the same way, if you choose to take Pyrholidion.
Tumblr media
I think the biggest difference between Bird's Nest Roy and Lt. Kitsuragi is that Bird's Nest Roy acts like he's a cynic...
Tumblr media
... but the fact that he tried to help with the People's Pile makes me think he's not.
In fact, he likes imagining, losing himself in his own thoughts, more than anything real.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did you see that? Did you get what he's saying?
The Man from Hjelmdall may not have been real before the stories were written and read, but he's real now, because he's in the stories.
I don't think Lt. Kitsuragi agrees with that.
But I do.
And if you're reading this post, I bet you do too. You had no idea who Bird's Nest Roy or Lt. Kim Kitsuragi or Raphaƫl Ambrosius Costeau was.
But you do now.

A Terribly Organized Almost-Essay About Suzanne Collins and Why I Think She Writes
Lukewarm take because it's been years, but here it goes: if there's anything I've learned over the years, it's that Suzanne Collins is not a people pleaser. (The author, at least. I don't know her personally lol). And she be pleasing the people, that's not what I mean! I just kept hearing the same question being asked over and over again. "Why Snow? Why him?? Why not anybody else? Really?? A prequel about HIM??" It really made me think.
And don't get me wrong! I'd slash someone's tires for a Finnick prequel just like the next person (Suzanne please!), but that has never been the point of her writing. The Hunger Games novels, and by extension, the prequel book The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, aren't just fun fiction reads. Yeah, they're gripping. The world-building is superb. Young people are at the center of it. And all these characteristics are great, but the thing that draws us in, that keeps us consuming her media like hungry little caterpillars, is that they are, time and time again, a captivating and accurate criticism, analysis, and deconstruction of the broken systems society experiences in the real world. I can only speak from my own experience as a Mexican American woman in the United States, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
The Capitol is colorful and fun and interesting and horrible and sadistic. And it is all those things because it is a symbol of our own real-world 1%, except our own glittering Capitol members here in the real world feed us the hope that we may reach their status if we only work hard enough for long enough. The Hunger Games system never makes that claim. In fact, they are fed the narrative that the system only works because they're stuck where they are. Suzanne Collins is taking everything one step further in her writing because it is a type of satire, a critique of the things we already know. So as an author, she blows it out of proportion so that her reader will say "look at this! How ridiculous! How would someone let the system treat them this way!" And it is ridiculous, it's downright laughable that an entire society, an entire country, would let itself be oppressed in such a cruel way by just a few people in charge instead of rising up and- oh wow, yeah, I see it. She wrote about us.
Suzanne Collins just organized everything neatly into boxes- well, districts. Because every district comes with some form of product that they manufacture, but much more importantly: a class. We go in order from 1-13. District 1 manufactures luxury items and District 2 makes weapons (but mostly trains Peacekeepers), so they have the most privilege and wealth. On the other end, Districts 11 and 12 are the agricultural and coal mining districts, respectively. That's back-breaking work. Not to mention District 11 puts kids as young as 12 to work, and District 12 is poverty-stricken and starving. "But what about District 13?" You may ask, "They make nuclear weapons! Why aren't they up there with 2?" Fantastic question. If we know, and the people of Panem know, that the hierarchy is very clearly set by literal number order, why would one of the most powerful and competent districts be given more power and be put at the top? Placing them at the end lets them believe that they aren't powerful or competent. I mean, jeez, look at 12 and they're before 13? I wouldn't believe I could make it on my own either. (We know now that's not how things go down, but it's a clever power move regardless.)
But after all this, would it hurt Suzanne to give us a single book just for fun?
Yes, I believe it would, that's the whole point. We're not meant to fall for the Peeta/Katniss/Gale love triangle. We're not meant to be interested in Finnick's secrets and early life. We're not meant to want to know the morbid details of how Haymitch won his Games (with double the contestants! Ooh. Aah.) We're meant to be horrified at every turn, at every story. We're meant to ask ourselves how things got so bad, how anyone let this happen. Suzanne Collins has written wonderfully fleshed out characters that grip us and make us want to know more, but the point has never been them or even their loved ones. It was never about Katniss or Prim or Peeta or Finnick or Annie. It's always been about the systems that let this story happen, and where Suzanne got her inspiration: the very real lives we lead. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes shows us the same thing.
So why Coriolanus Snow? Because he is the catalyst to a broken system that only serves the powerful. If Suzanne were to write a novel about any of our much more beloved characters, then she would be writing the exact same book over and over about the same oppression happening in the same system. She does not write for the sake of bringing her very well-written characters to life, but to flesh out the poverty, the starvation, the power struggles, the horrors they experience. We know this because she writes a lot of her characters as symbols. (Coin, for instance, as the symbol for a power-hungry figurehead, or Prim as the innocent during war.)
Snow is living in a slightly different biome than what we know from The Hunger Games series. He has to make sacrifices and decisions for him and his family, but it's different. It is a view and critique from the inside looking in. This is not Katniss getting to experience the Capitol for the first time and understanding just how terribly unfair everything is. This is someone who is very aware of the way things work and playing the game to stay in power and keep their privilege. Not only that, but it's someone who feels entitled to all of it. In this novel, Suzanne plays around with power and people's position in it. What if a mad scientist was in charge? What if the creator of the thing that brought a semblance of peace was just as horrified as the reader? How far is one person willing to go for power? What if we saw the dawn of a world we're already familiar with?
So I hope she keeps writing, because I love seeing our world through her eyes and the parallels she writes from our world to hers of the injustices happening every day. Even though we'll probably never get the stories we crave, but that's okay. Keep putting those kids through hell, Suzanne.

Been doing a lot of thinking about Shanks...
And the more I think about him, the more I consider whether he could be some kind of antagonistic force. (In my heart of hearts? I don't believe it. But speculation is fun!) This is a bit of a jumbled mess of thoughts, but I figure it'll be interesting to write it down and see how wrong I am at the end of the series.
So, here's two predictions I think are pretty likely:
Luffy will destroy Mary Geoise and, with it, Fishman Island and part of the Red Lineā€”thereby creating the All Blue. (I think this is fairly self-explanatory considering Madame Shyarly's premonition.)
Luffy will find the One Piece, but Buggy will become the Pirate King. (Perhaps becoming the Pirate King has some greater meaning/responsibility that Luffy rejects? Whatever the reason, Buggy seems to be heading in that directionā€”he's essentially been used as a placeholder before, after all, as a Warlord and Emperor.)
When I think about Shanks' role in the future, it's very foggy. We don't know a lot about Shanks, obviously, but if Buggy is to become the Pirate King, then the way they've juxtaposed him with Shanks is interesting. Shanks and Buggy are, like, opposites in terms of ambition (by which I don't mean what they seek, but how they seek it, and how they feel about their ambitions altogether).
[Important note: There's some great posts (try here, here, here, and here) talking about Shanks and Buggy's history. The gist of it is that Buggy never truly believed in himself because of Shanks' obvious potential; that Shanks was a bit of a bully, intentional or not; and that Buggy set his sights on a lesser treasure, never aiming for the OP because of Shanks' existenceā€”only for Shanks give up on heading to Laugh Tale, their dream, altogether.]
Shanks was always the one considered to be Roger's successor; he was the one who got the hat. He shared his aspirations with Buggy, promising they'd go to Laugh Tale togetherā€”and then gave it all up when Roger returned from Laugh Tale. Which, of course, hurt Buggy tremendously, alongside all of Shanks' other transgressions (such as the mishap with the Devil Fruit, and losing Buggy's treasure map).
Buggy's feelings for the hat, and for Shanks, sour and complicate as their lives go on, even as they find distance from one another. While I do think Shanks has a lot of regret for what happened with Buggy, he tries to look toward the future, hence the importance of Roger's legacy and the straw hat. Buggy, of course, knows the importance of the straw hat more than anyoneā€”it's why he's so furious to see Luffy with it.
Keeping Buggy in mind, Shanks meeting Luffy becomes more interesting. He gives up the straw hat he loves (that Buggy loves) to a little boy he supposedly lovesā€”but why? Because he sees Roger in Luffy, because he believes Luffy is The One, or because Luffy ate the legendary fruit? Would Shanks, in a universe where Luffy wasn't chosen by the Gumā€“Gum Fruit, give up his arm to save Luffy? Would he give Luffy the hat? A classic question. I mean, I like to think that he wouldā€”I think Shanks comes across as a sentimental, kind man, if a little rough around the edgesā€”but I don't know so.
Besides, simply giving Luffy the hat could be construed as an antagonistic act, as it potentially puts a target on Luffy: the right people will know whose hat that is, and will wonder why he has it. Oda frames it as an inheriting of wills, but it's not like he's not retconned things before! Either way, the feelings Buggy must have when he sees the hat not on Roger, not on Shanks, not on himselfā€”but on Luffy? Some random kid? Fuck.
Fact of the matter is that we all know Shanks saved Luffy, in part, because Luffy ate the fruit. But what if that was the sole reason? What if Shanks saved Luffy simply because he knew that Luffy, as Nika, was the only one who could find/use the One Piece? Perhaps Shanks' plan is to use Luffy to grab power for himself. In a story about governmental oppression and the corruption of those in absolute power, it doesn't seem too far off. Especially if Shanks' past and his mistakes have warped him a little.
Extrapolating from what little we know of Shanks, and of Joy Boy and the Void Century, I'm not sure what Oda will do. The basic possibilities, as I see them, are:
Shanks is an ally to Luffy and gives himself up for Luffy's sake. Perhaps he dies while helping Luffy, potentially before they've had a chance to meet again. (I can see him dying in the fight against Blackbeard or Mary Geoise, for instance.) Or perhaps Oda makes it rhyme: perhaps he's sick like Roger, or something, and he acts in sacrifice, the way Roger did in unleashing the Great Pirate Era.
Shanks acts as an obstacle for Luffy to fight in pursuit of the OP. I think this one makes the least sense because the only reason I could see Shanks doing this is to test Luffy, but he already knows that Luffy is Joy Boy, so there's no point. Then again, we know Shanks has decided to go after the One Piece now...
Shanks is antagonistic, but has a change of heart! By which I mean: Luffy does it again, folks! Shanks is using Luffy as a means to dismantle to world order, after which he can seize a lot of power for himselfā€”but Luffy persuades him against it. (Look, this doesn't make sense with the Shanks I envision, but what do I know, huh?)
Shanks is the antagonist. I mean, I guess we don't know his background, do we? People have long suspected he's of noble birth, having been found in God Valley. Regardless of whether he's working for or against the World Gov, we have no idea how powerful Shanks really is. And, if he's got less than noble ambitions, a small, trusted crew makes sense, I suppose. Yet Blackbeard fills this role pretty neatly: a tale of betrayal in pursuit of power, playing the long game, etc.
Shanks doesn't die and everything is hunky-dory. Look, I don't want my favourite swashbuckling drunkard to die, but this sounds pretty boring, doesn't it? Shanks guides Luffy right to the finish line and everyone cheers! "The One Piece is the friends we made along the way! Yeah!"
SO, what do I actually think is going to happen?
I don't know. This is a mess. I have so many more thoughts but this is already too long. Send help.
(something about how shanks not wanting to become the king perfectly sets up buggy to take the position... something about luffy denying becoming king for freedom-related reasons... something about how shanks never got to give the hat back to roger, so it would make sense if luffy also can't return the hat, and thus gives it to buggy instead... something about buggy finally getting closure... )

thereā€™s a comment Dutch makes when he and Arthur are headed to Lagras to bargain for a boat. Dutch is on his loyalty bender and basically gaslighting Arthur the entire time but then he says something about John and that woman. Abigail. and how Johnā€™s being turned away from him by Abigail and how heā€™s seen this before
and i canā€™t help but wonder what he means by this.
does he mean when Arthur left and had his son Isaac with Eliza? even if they were more co-parents then not? or when Arthur nearly ran away with Mary? did Dutch get suddenly jealous that his pseudo-son was going to leave him and start a life away from all the violence?
or does he mean when Hosea married Bessie? and quit the gang for a while and didnā€™t fully come back into it after she died? did Dutch quietly delight in the fact that Bessie was no longer between him and Hosea?
it makes me wonder about the type of man Dutch is and how he sees women. because we all know he uses marginalized people and their communities for his own gain. it wouldnā€™t surprise me if he had some disparaging thoughts towards women either

not to post about persuasion again but i have so much to say.
one thing i really love about persuasion and that makes it feel so very true to life is Wentworth's bitterness towards Anne and his subsequent forgiveness. he's a flawed guy!!!
Wentworth loved someone, proposed to her and then found that she was not confident in her love for him and so rejected him out of fear and weakness. he put himself on the line for her and was essentially told by the woman he loved he isn't good enough.
of course I love Anne Elliot. she was vulnerable and pursued by someone older and wiser who she looked up to. and honestly Lady Russell isn't completely wrong. Wentworth was in the navy and just as likely to die and leave Anne a penniless widow as become a rich and respected captain.
but Wentworth's resentment towards Anne just serves to make him an equally flawed yet admirable character. his character arc involves him learning to forgive Anne for her actions when she was younger and allow himself to love her again, both for who she was when they were young but also for the older woman she is now. he has to recognise the changes in her and her new strength of character and resolve.
both Anne and Wentworth must admit to themselves where their faults are and change over the course of the novel, because if they don't they won't be able to confess their feelings to each other again.
Wentworth has to be a bigger person and let go of his very justified anger. he loved Anne and she broke his heart, but she's different now and he must admit to himself how he never truly stopped loving her and comparing all other women to her. he has to acknowledge the pain her mistakes caused her and forgive her, as otherwise he would never be able to get her back.
there's just something so beautiful about persuasion featuring two leads who carry very complicated feelings towards each other from their pasts having to reckon with that. they have to forgive each other and move past the very real hurt that was caused in order to have another chance at happiness
its something we can do! its a lesson! we can resolve to act as Anne and do and seek to improve ourselves, to move through the world with grace and forgiveness!

Thinking about Dick and Roy as kind of parallels to each other.
Both taken in by heroes. Both raised as sidekicks and partners but not quite sons. Both ended up coming of age with distance between them and their mentors.
But then things start to differ as adults.
(Correct me if I'm wrong on anything with Roy, because I only know pieces and I'd love to know more.)
Dick is constantly pulled back into Bruce's orbit by force or by choice. Roy seems to have a more... active role in deciding when to let Oliver back into his life.
Roy raises Lian, getting to have her as a center of his world, and establishes himself as his own hero.
Dick is a bit more stuck in the shadow of Batman. Every marriage attempt gets destroyed. Every new balance found gets toppled by catastrophe.
Roy actually gets a life outside being a hero. Dick's whole world revolves around the superhero community.
It's just very interesting that the things DC seems so eager to erase from Roy's story are the things that let him grow up and become his own person.
Which, now that I'm thinking about it, also maps onto Dick. Every time he gets Free of Gothamā€™s everything, something pulls him back into it. Like an unwilling or unknowing Peter Pan, he's not allowed to grow up, not really.
And after all the reboots and retcons and resets, their relationship gets lost, too.
Idk, man. I miss when things for "adults" also meant growth and maturity. Not just tits and senseless violence.

guys iā€™ve gone off the deep end and decided to start writing fanfics again. i couldnā€™t ignore all the thirst under my recent posts i just had to do something about it!
iā€™m a pretty josh hutcherson centric blog right now and even though mike schmidt is my #1 gf iā€™ll still write for any of his characters! if they happen to get requested of course, but i have a feeling mike is going to be in high demand right now lmao
some notes :)
- mike schmidt is my main bitch so keep that in mind
- i might write smut if i get really inspired by an ask but itā€™s not my forte so bear with me
- iā€™m a college girlie (shoutout all my fellow women in stem) so it might take a bit for requests to get posted but iā€™ll try my very best to be on time
- i want to write short stuff but i tend to ramble so weā€™ll see
if i think of anything else iā€™ll post it but yeah!
my ask box is wide open as of right now! donā€™t be scared xoxo

on the topic of lockstock "we, we never fail"
im not done talking about the leitmotif of urinetown itself (ie; the note progression we hear on the word "show" at the end of i see a river)
that one two note progression encapsulates the ENTIRE shows story
things start bad, seem to look up, and then crumble underneath you before you can blink
those who lived through the stink years must have thought that caldwell starting ugc was a way back to how things were, only to realize later that it's even worse
people paying to pee, the revolution and abolishing the acts which made things look better, only for society to fall anyway because water was completely unregulated now
this show is so good
reminder that nothing in a musical is ever accidental

the bunny metaphors

in my heart they're a found family situation with harry being older than becky and her suffering from a teen pregnancy so harry is like her older brother figure
but i've also seen people hc them as harry being the father of becky's baby
i've also seen people interpret them as being blood siblings or even just two people who never really interacted before the revolution pushed them together
"like venice, only different?"
i've made this post before but the harmony at the end of follow your heart makes me bust
"it's not so much a place as it is a ...metaphysical...place..."
and directly after that, lockstock's sax solo
the "if only"s from follow your heart reappearing at the end of tell her i love her

Overall BTS in Order Summary + Takeaways
Okay, this project was a) impromptu and b) fun and c) biiiggg.
There are some observations and thoughts that didn't quite fit in any one month that I wanted to add on. I also wanted to think through what I take away from this timeline as far as ggdd's relationship. So here's super-duper long post.
Shenanigans on set - professionalism
It's commonly observed that ggdd are a chaotic duo, and the impression you get from watching bts highlights is that they must have been a nightmare on set. If you watch through the bts clips on the daily, though, it's easy to see why gg and dd are well-regarded by people they work with.
Most of their day is endless takes of doing the same scene over and over. They spend a lot of time talking through a scene and their characters. Sometimes making small modifications but usually just giving a scene another go. They're usually doing this in harsh physical and emotional conditions, whether hanging on wires, immersing themselves in cold water, doing fight scenes in thick robes and sweltering heat, or working into the wee hours of the morning. Both gg and dd worked while injured and/or sick.
The moments of chaos are pretty rare and typically not disruptive. They're during moments where they're waiting for the crew to set something up. Sometimes they're egged on by the crew and the director. Overall, they're dedicated professionals who took advantage of slow moments for some fun but were otherwise focused on the show.
Kudos also to the rest of the cast and crew who were similarly dedicated. (Also, how do I get a job as dd's umbrella holder? Where should I send a resume?)
If you go into the bilibili playlist expecting non-stop ggdd shenanigans, you're gonna be disappointed. If, you're, like me, a nerd who finds the meta of filming interesting and doesn't mind sitting through people doing the same thing over and over again, then you're in luck because there's literal hours of that.
The fuzziness of the timeline.
I want to provide some cautions with the timeline. I rely heavily on a cfan-made bilibili playlist whose method I honestly can't understand bc it doesn't translate well through Google. What's more, I made some judgment calls when comparing against other timelines I've found, a cfan-made Weibo timeline, and vic's timeline here on Tumblr. Any of these could be wrong, so don't take this timeline as super-duper solid.
There are times I identify a clip as a widely-known translated clip, and there were also clips that were NOT in the bb playlist but that I tried to place based on some assumptions. I want to break these down.
Type 1
This is simple. These are when there's a clip on the playlist that is identical to a translated clip I've seen, just without the subtitles. This makes up most of them. The chocolate bar hug, the bondage conversation, the jealousy in English clip. As long as the bb playlist date is correct, then the date for these clips should be correct.
Type 2
Much less common. This is when I've seen a longer, translated version of a clip on the bb playlist so I'll include in the timeline what else goes in that clip.
As an example, the bb playlist has the clip of dd pretending to choke gg. I've seen elsewhere that this clip continues past where the bb playlist cuts off to also show gg singing Sam Smith to dd. So I place those both on the same day. These should be as reliable as Type 1
Type 3
These are the most open to error. There are clips that are not in the bb playlist but that have gg and dd in the same costumes, shooting the same scene as playlist clips. In those cases, I make a (big) assumption that they took place on the same day.
As an example, the bb playlist has Cloud Recess era gg and dd in the Cold Springs (not the secret cave but the place where gg makes his sword pee). The playlist does not include the clips of gg injuring his foot, but I've seen those clips and they're shooting the same scenes so the costumes and such are the same. I assume they're all on the same day.
But I could be wrong. Oftentimes, the same scene is reshot weeks later for technical reasons. Some scenes take multiple days to shoot. The script was also changing as they shifted away from het-washing wwx, and they had to reshoot some scenes as a result. The clip of gg injuring his foot could be from some other day when they had to shoot those scenes again for whatever reason.
Likewise with the cloud recess library pretzeling clip. I'm guessing it goes on 8/20, because that's the only day the playlist has clips from those scenes. But that does not mean that 8/20 was the only day cloud recess library scenes were filmed.
The other scene that falls into this type is from June, when gg and dd complain to each other about how few scenes they have together. The clip I've seen (elsewhere) was clearly taken while shooting the scene where LSX and WN run off together, so I've placed it there.
This brings us back to what I explained in April but I really just want to pound on it: we know SOOOO little. Most days, we don't even have an hour's worth of bts footage. There are so many scenes shot that we don't have any insight on. And we don't know what we don't know (and probably never will).
There are some clips that weren't included on the bb playlist that I can't even begin to guess the date for. I've seen the clip of gg saying "delete it" to a wwx/wq scene, but even though I know the costume that gg and dd were wearing, I don't have anything more specific to place it to a date.
I also really wanted to know what the date is on the clip of dd questioning a costume-jiejie about what gg said about him in an interview. No such luck. The most I can do is guess it may be related to the interview in July. The Aug interviews seem way too late for that clip, but who knows? (Honestly, the July interview seems a bit late for that type of clip)
Another clip that I wish I could date: the clip where dd casually mentions how handsome Xue Yang is to prompt gg to give rainbow farts to lwj.
I was also just curious about the WQ scenes in general, so I was disappointed they weren't on the playlist. I've seen some of the original WQ scenes elsewhere (I guess from gg solo playlists on YouTube), and I'm just generally interested in the shift the production team made in response to fan complaints (and maybe to complaints from their stars?).
All this to say, take the timeline as fuzzy. If someone wants to take on the herculean task of tracking down and correcting my errors (and making that super-awesome comprehensive Google sheet), then you have my highest respect (and my sword).
Is the devil's timeline possible? Looking at you, may.
I've been approaching my takeaways from the assumption that they met first on DDU, didn't interact for a year, then properly met again when they ended up on the Untamed. I don't have strong feelings about the Devil's Timeline, honestly, and I wouldn't be too surprised if it's true. But I tend to stick to the documented first meeting timepoint when speculating, just to not compound speculation atop speculation.
But putting that aside, if there anything in the timeline that rejects the Devil's Timeline out of hand? Not really. Some of the harder to explain dates are also hard to explain with the standard timeline (I'll get to those), so the devil's timeline is as likely as anything.
Is there anything that supports the Devil's Timeline?
Well, there are some clips that indicate a committed relationship much earlier than the standard timeline assumes. This may not necessarily mean we're in devil land. It could just mean their relationship moved faster than most people think. But they are notable.
Let's look at 2 clips in May that stand out as odd.
On 5.22, there's a clip attached to a rumor that gg and dd had a fight. The rumor goes that dd left the set early for some reason. In the morning, when gg asked where dd was going, dd said it was none of his business. When he returned, gg gave him the silent treatment. Dd grew increasingly upset about it while gg got snippy about how dd clearly didn't want him to care about him.
The clip this goes with is shot from a distance. There's no real sound, so I'm assuming that somebody did some lip-reading to come up with a transcript (that was then translated to English for the version I've seen). In it, an upset dd tells gg that he never told him (gg) not to care about him (dd).
There's obvious issues when relying on lip-reading for a conversation. Especially in this case, because their mouths are blocked at several points by people bustling around. The most I can reliably say about this clip is that gg does look a little frosty and dd is most definitely upset (like, startlingly upset).
If the rumor and the lip-read are accurate, this type of exchange only really makes sense in the context of some type of serious relationship. This was about a month before the dragon boat festival date.
I don't know enough about the original rumor to even have a guess as to how reliable it is. It's interesting to me, though, and I'm not inclined to dismiss it out of hand. If it's not true, then I wonder what, exactly, dd was so upset over if they're not yet in a relationship.
The other odd clip is the 5.17 clip of gg being jealous of the camera guy.
It's clear that gg felt threatened by the camera guy, but it's ambiguous as to what that implies about their relationship. Jealousy can rear its head within a romantic relationship, of course. But it could also manifest if they're still just friends but gg feels a special claim on dd somehow. Maybe they're in early flirting stages. Maybe gg knows dd has a crush on him, likes it, and feels threatened when dd's attention (which is usually pretty focused on him) is taken by another guy.
Any of these could be the case here. So gg's jealousy doesn't necessarily indicate that gg and dd are an item at that time. But it could.
These 2 clips are definitely interesting in how early they happen, and the earlier we see signs that gg and dd are an item, the more likely the devil's timeline is real.
So yeah. If you're on the devil's side, you got just as much support as anybody else based on this timeline.
Confusing dates
@bzhitstruth and I brought up a couple clips on the timeline that surprised us with their dates. Specifically, the jealousy in English conversation and the "I'm not talking about wwx, I'm talking about xz" moment. Both of these take place in July, while it seemed to me that mid-June would be the latest that gg and dd could get together based on the walk of shame after the dragonboat festival date.
Why is it weird to have these 2 clips a month later?
Well, the jealousy conversation involves them each accusing the other of chatting up other people. DD is specific about having heard gg talking to a girl some days ago whereas gg just accuses dd of having talked to men on WeChat. (I'm putting aside whether dd and gg were chatting up other people bc I'm not incredibly interested in going there. I'm more interested in what it says that they had this discussion). This is a conversation that I would expect to see if they were either not yet in a relationship or if their relationship was brand new and they were bringing up old habits the other had that they feel threatened by.
It reads oddly if they're a month into their relationship.
The other clip is more subjective, but my general impression before doing the timeline was that dd's smooth pickup line there is some early-stage flirtation. Both dd's line and gg's reaction come across as fresh and new, not an interaction one has with a person they've been dating for a month.
These are both Type 1 clips, so as long as the bb playlist is correct, then I'm 100% sure that they're dated correctly.
As to what to make of all this...uh...
"It's complicated" relationship status
Here's a best guess? I'm not committed to this. Just spitballing ideas that may fit the timeline.
I'm also basing this on my experience dating before I got married (I got married when I was 28, so I was still dating when I was gg's age). Of course, I got married around 2010, so the tech and dating landscape was different then. And obviously, I'm an American bisexual woman, not a gay/bi Chinese man. So my experience is probably gonna be a poor fit for gg and dd's experience, is what I'm saying. Take everything with a big ol' grain of salt.
One thing I'm pretty firm on, they had a sexual relationship on or before 6/18. Dd's walk of shame is hard to otherwise explain. There is the possibility that dd did that lazy smell test thing where he didn't have any clean clothes so just wore what he wore yesterday without thinking about it. I knew a looottttt of guys his age that did that (in fairness, I did that sometimes). Course, they were poor college students or burnouts who did not have PAs and staff to do their laundry so...
I'm sticking to it my certainty here. It's not realistic that they started a sexual relationship later than 6/18.
I noted in the May summary post that when dd realized that gg was physically affectionate, he hopped to take advantage of that (not in a predatory way). On 5.4, dd was constantly draping himself all over gg. What if they started having casual sex around this date?
Bear with me, y'all.
Plenty of decent relationships start with casual sex. My marriage began with me intending it to just be FWB (my wife had other intentions and, well, obviously it moved beyond FWB). So let's not do any shaming on this (in other words, I will take it personally). It's a part of modern life. In addition, my understanding is that actors' sex life is oftentimes connected to what they're filming at any given time.
Being friends w/ benefits (FWB) means gg and dd have an intimate connection that we see on set sometimes. On 5.7, dd helps gg practice his dance, for instance. But it also means that they're not on firm romantic footing, even if feelings are creeping in (which they definitely were).
How might this play out? Check out my fanfic outline:
On 5.17, we have gg getting jealous of the camera man. He feels some exclusive claim to dd given their FWB relationship and given dd is clearly nursing a crush on him, and he doesn't like having competition for dd's attention.
On 5.22, they have that fight. I wonder if gg took dd by surprise by pushing the bounds of their relationship to that point. GG, like dd, is feeling more invested in their relationship than a simple FWB requires, and he's getting annoyed when dd doesn't act the same (by going off to lunch without telling him where he's going). DD looks stressed bc while he does want something more with gg, he didn't realize they were at that point, and he's worried he screwed things up before they could develop.
After that point, romance might have started to play more of a role in their interactions as both of them pick up on the fact that the other might want something more as well. On 6.1, gg pulls out the heavy flirting with a kabedon and whispering in dd's ear. DD is clearly into it.
On 6.7, we get the clip where dd seems to ask for a kiss from gg. If they've been having sex since May, this isn't a huge surprise. Their relationship must also be common knowledge on set (they had that 5.22 argument in front of a bunch of crew and XL, all of whom didn't even seem to be paying attention).
On 6.14, they have the frankly obscene Cold Spring Adventures with each other.
Then on 6.18, they go on a date (with director and producer for plausible deniability). Maybe it's the first actual date they have and marks when they officially move from FWB to explicit romance.
On 6.30, there's the scene where jgy monologues while gg wants dd to romantically give up his life for gg (and dd's like, "nah, I'll just use my sword").
Moving a FWB to a romance can be weird and can take some work. Old habits creep in a lot and the fact that things started as FWB can lead to some early relationship insecurity.
On 7.17, dd's a little insensitive when he calls gg stupid after gg injures his foot in the water. GG honestly doesn't seem to notice (he's focused on getting to the shore and looking at his foot), but dd is clearly beating himself up throughout the clip and apologizes multiple times.
On 7.18, we have dd doing his "I'm not talking about wwx, I'm talking about xz" line. Maybe he's going hard, trying to make up for his misstep from yesterday? Given gg's reaction, this is clearly the type of romance he's looking for, so dd pretty much nailed it.
On 7.23 we have the English jealousy conversation. As they started as FWBs, they were probably aware that the other had similar arrangements in the past. That was probably a source of insecurity for both of them at the beginning as they moved onto a romance. This may be what's behind this particular conversation.
On 8.4, the night before dd's birthday, we get some big romance with rooftop stargazing and a birthday countdown. Then on 8.5, the cake and prezzies. On the morning of 8.6, dd posts his Weibo message about continuing things he started at 21 when he's 81.
DD's Weibo post always read as a response to something specific. Maybe gg was starting to have reservations about where their relationship would go after filming. The end was in sight, and gg may have been wanting to pull away, citing dd's age as a concern.
At the same time, they haven't put the kibosh on things yet. Maybe they're just trying not to think about it. They're busy enough, after all, they can put it out of their minds. That's how we get gg singing sam smith to dd on 8.18.
But then something happens. Maybe gg gets some big reminder that filming is wrapping up soon. Whatever it is, he deletes dd as a contact on WeChat. This leads to the 8.20 fight where dd asks gg to add him back and gg says they'll go their separate ways.
Maybe gg does add him back that day after the fight. Maybe he decides to wait until the very end to disconnect rather than hash it out while they still have filming to do. Maybe there are crucial events happening that were never caught on camera (Okay, this is definitely the case).
Whatever it is, they return to some form of normal for the next couple days. Then on the day they wrap, maybe that's the day gg breaks it off again. This is why dd was late to the photoshoot and why they fought on the steps after.
Whew. Okay, so I think that kinda accounts for all the ups and downs of the timeline.
Again, I'm not committed to this take. I'm just spitballing something that might make sense of some of these dates on the timeline. I'd love to see what other folks come up with!
We're all probably wrong anyway, and there's no way we'll ever know! šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¢šŸ¢šŸ¢šŸ¢

Hi! I just followed you after seeing your post about Moon Knight where you said, ā€œI find the treatment of Marc Spector by fans and even the people who worked on the show kind of strange.ā€ Iā€™ve seen what you mean with the fans but what do you mean about the people who work on the show?
Hi! Thank you so much for following me. I appreciate it. šŸ„ŗ
I don't know if you watched Assembled: The Making of Moon Knight, but in it, I can't remember who it was, but someone said that had they started the series with Marc instead of Steven, they'd be fighting an uphill battle the entire series.
I don't love that comment for a couple of reasons. It makes it sound like they viewed Marc as a difficult character, and I don't think that's true. It also makes it seem like they're sort of out of touch with their audience. I'm not saying you should pander to your audience, but you should be aware of what they connect with. Some of the most loved characters in Marvel are characters are those who have experienced some sort of trauma and struggle with it. For example, Loki, Bucky, and Wanda.
I understand that Steven is "easier" to connect with throughout the show because we are experiencing everything the way he is. He's confused about what's happening, and so are we as an audience.
Also, it seems like there isn't the same amount of love and excitement for Marc as for Steven. I get it, Steven is a very different character than we've seen in the MCU. He's also a very different type of character for Oscar. So, I get the excitement, but Marc is deserving of the same excitement and love Steven has and continues to receive.
I think there is a bigger issue with the men who write for Marvel when it comes to their male characters who have experienced trauma. For example, the whole idea in TFATWS that Bucky has to atone for his time as the Winter Soldier as if he isn't the victim in that situation. And how Loki is doomed to an eternity alone at the end of Loki even though his worst fear was ending up alone.
This is more than you asked for, but I wanted to elaborate. Also, this is just my perception of things. I'm not saying it's fact. It's just how I feel based on everything I discussed.
All of that being said, my point is that Marc, Steven, and Jake all deserve love. One of them isn't better than the other, etc. These characters are so complex and compelling, and Oscar does one hell of a job playing them.

i'm gonna say one last thing bc i can't stop thinking about this and then i'm going to shut up about it for good... he said whatever he said about touring/wanting ppl to come to finland to see him in a finnish interview to a finnish audience in a seminar about finances because he was asked about it. I don't think that's him being entitled or complaining or selfish or anything like that. Honestly, I wonder if he yet realizes that everything he says is being translated for everyone to read - especially one offhand comment in an interview that was supposed to be about finances.
If he goes and complains directly to the people who are supporting him and coming to his EU shows, then yeah, I think that would be a dickish move. I hope he won't because at the end of the day people are paying money to see him, and it's absolutely not their fault he is not being fairly compensated for his labour. If he ends up making jokes about it during the tour, I hope he keeps it light.

i just love the s6 episodes where things are in Wilson's and Cuddy's POV (6x10 and 6x14), just shows how badass both of them are
wilson in his caring, diplomatic and self-sacrificing way, constantly dealing with, not only being the head of the oncology department, but also with his patients who die practically everyday
cuddy in her analytical, strong-willed and dedicated way, conquering the world everyday from 9 to 5, being the head of the hospital and working not only on clinic but dealing with everything else as well at the same time
