we need to talk about the marauders era girls more. how marlene always faked crushes on boys because she was scared about her feelings for girls. how lily wasn't accepted by her muggle family or by her wizard peers. how dorcas was constantly rejected for being muggleborn and poc. how pandora attached herself to people only for them to break her heart. how mary struggled with feeling confident in her looks and abilities.

hot take no one asked for: atyd is way too canon compliant for the marauders fandom
ok first of all i'd like to clear up some things. i know many people love it, it's a very very important part of the marauders fandom and it's very well written. no hate to enjoyers OR mskingbean89 (whom i respect very much, thank u). the wolfstar is definitely GOLDEN and the jily is adorable. this is a very personal view that i have been thinking about, and felt like sharing. also note that i dropped the fic and only got up till, like, fifth or sixth year
there are multiple things which id like to list from the fic that makes me not like it very much as a person with a lot of marauders hcs that are very much not canon compliant, and that feel like the author is writing from a very 'just entered the fandom cuz of wolfstar lol' understanding. again, absolutely NO hate intended, and ik the writing does NOT indicate how much the person understands about the fandom. also, understanding doesn't matter!! everyone who's part of the fandom is part of the fandom, and that's that.
keep in mind that these are things that I PERSONALLY hc. nothing is canon here in the marauders era fandom and if it is, it smells terrible and as such, everyone will have different ideas
also, while i'm at it, i'd like to compliment some things rq. remus portrayal and character development - PEAK. beautifully written. explanation and portrayal of mary (who's character i didn't really understand before reading atyd) - AMAZING. the relationship between the black brothers also made me cry (THE LETTER SCENE?!?!?! YALL KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABT). also grant is my bbg
here's the list:
hufflepuff dorcas (who also dated pete???) (i hc her to be slytherin and also part of the skittles)
no dorlene (a ship that's basically slightly less popular lesbian wolfstar in terms of how many ppl add dorlene to their stories (a lot))
shy marlene (whereas marlene is usually depicted as very bombastic and explosive and also very much gay). actually i liked this portrayal of marlene which was very well written and also adorable but... idk i don't see marlene as a shy girl
no evan rosier/pandora rosier/(slytherin) dorcas? only barty and regulus (so basically, no slytherin skittles/royal court/pantheon)
on that note, obviously-mean reg? (as in, instead of quietly sneering at people like many of us hc him, he outright shames ppl for being gay) (also i didn't mention barty cuz we all know barty's a little shit)
very toxic sirius (who ignored reg just bc he was sorted into slytherin, who fwb with remus and acted like it was normal and straight (guys fwb w a guy as a giy id bery much not straight), who didn't do much but fuck girls and cheat on them, who was outwardly jealous and mean to christopher, who acted weird and badmouthed grant after learning he and rem used to be tgt)
sirius hating pete (although this makes sense and is a common viewpoint of the harry potter fandom especially that pete is annoying or unlikeable, it feels rly rly cruel and makes sirius even more unlikeable imo cuz WHAT did bbg do to u he's js a kid he hasn't killed no one yet?)
all of these points show that mskingbean89 doesn't seem to pay much attention to characters (or more specifically, the fanon interpretations of characters) other than wolfstar and jily. many of these are key hcs that can be found in 75% of marauders content at least (example, dorlene) and the hcs they have seem straight out of hp (the books). ONE MORE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK: THERE IS NO ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH THIS. i just personally don't see much of the content i love of the marauders characters (although ik that isn't the point of atyd, as it is wolfstar-centric)
ok that's all i got ty if u read this. pls do let me know ur opinion abt atyd! its def one of the pillars of the marauders era which many people use as canon and i don't mean to offend anyone in any way w this post. just an opinion

programmer here (with cs degree, it job etc) sorry this is long and im on mobile but i wanted to give you my 2 cents :D i actually dont recommend javascript as your first language, js has really weak "rules" and basically allows you to do whatever you want when writing code, including really shitty things. this can be great in many situations if you know what you're doing and makes js very flexible but if you're starting out you will probably pick up bad habits and it will be difficult to move onto different languages (like typed languages)
for example i learned C as my first and i'm very glad for it, it's not used much outside of certain fields now but it's fantastic to start out, especially bc it operates at a lower level than most modern languages and by learning it you understand what's going on "under the hood" in your program and forces you to get used to many good programming practices.
imo the most important thing when starting out is finding a course that teaches you the main concepts common to most programming languages, once you are familiar with those you can learn others very easily. and it's better to start with a language that has strong rules, and then move onto those that are more lax. python is very popular and beginner friendly so it's an ok point to start for many, definitely better than js, and includes OOP as well so you can get familiar with that too. although if you want a really rigorous approach i'd still go with a typed language as your first.
basically: if you really care abt writing good code and eventually want to learn other languages i'd recommend C, or its more moden cousin Go (which is one of my fav languages and getting pretty popular), as your first. If you just want to throw yourself into programming and don't want to waste time with a language that is not super popular/don't care about, then python is good.
i'll try to look up some resources later maybe, i'd love to give you my uni courses materials but they're not in english/german :( anyway best of luck !! anyone can learn programming if they try, i know it can be really hard and confusing at first but dont give up !! :D
i knew itd work if i make another post abt it, i Love when i ask smth and all the expert professional anons following me just crawl out of the woodworks DFGJKFDJK
this is all very good to know thank you!!! goin on the to-research list. dw abt the resources, i am still only pondering at this so literally anything will do for now and actual uni course materials sounds terrifying LMAO

Mobile app development can be costly, much more than a functional website. And as mobile technologies are evolving, experts are trying to figure out ways to reduce this cost. Cross-platform application frameworks are a step towards this motive. Before the introduction of these, businesses had to make different versions of mobile app. A version each for iOS and Android. Hiring experts of two different technologies can be too costly. And not to mention the maintenance cost of each app. React Native and Ionic are two of the popular cross-platform app development platforms going around. In 2020, React native was the most popular mobile app framework used by developers. Ionics was fourth on the list. However, as the two platforms are being continuously improved, the race is still on. Ionics vs React Native has become a hot debate in the developers' community. In this article, I’m going to compare the two in different aspects. I’m not going to be biased, nor am I going to reach a final verdict. The final decision will be yours. So, let's get started! 1. Functionalities React Native and Ionic are two different frameworks, thus they have different functionalities. One has to be proficient in JavaScript as React native apps are developed using JS. The code communicates with the platform, be it iOS or Android, and relays necessary data calls and functions to the native platform API. There’s a JavaScript API that connects with the native platform API via a bridge. This bridge is the reason why React native apps work like native apps. On the other hand, Ionic is based on Cordova that uses a Webview component (UIWebView on iOS and WebView on Android) or a chromeless browser view. The WebView components use an HTML layout engine to render HTML/CSS user interface. Cordova relies on a Javascript-native bridge to ensure communication between the WebView application and the Native platform. This way, the framework can access Native APIs and device features like the camera. 2. Technology Stack As said before, React Native is written in the JavaScript framework. Instead of HTML, the UI pieces are written in JSX. JSX incorporates all the powers of JavaScript and is much more advanced than any other language template. React Native uses both React because both frameworks are open-sourced and products of the same company, Facebook. If we talk about the technology stack of Ionic, you can use Angular, Vue, or even React to build Ionic apps. That makes it a little more flexible than React Native. The latest release of Ionic 4 allows you to use Ionic even with any web development framework. In this regard, developers might consider Ionic a better option -- especially after the recent update. It has opened up a huge amount of flexibility in building Ionic apps. Even web developers can learn and use this framework to develop Ionic apps. 3. Learning Curve The learning curve of different technologies varies greatly. Most people find React Native easy to learn and get started with it in little time. The concepts and way of coding are pretty much the same in React. If you know a bit about React and React Native, you must be aware of the small differences. For example, react has web components like , , while React Native has components that are wrappers around native iOS and Android components. However, if we talk about people who don’t know React, they will have to learn JavaScript and React first. And the learning curve can be quite steep with no React knowledge. On the other hand, Ionic’s tech is flexible. While implementing this framework, developers use JavaScript, CSS, and HTML along with their chosen web framework. It could be Angular, React, Knockout, Vue, or any other compatible framework. So, the learning curve here isn’t as steep as it can be in the case of React Native if you have no knowledge of React. 4. Performance Well, I’ll be honest here. Native apps are great if you are someone keen to give a top-notch performance to your users.
The comparison is between Ionic and React Native, not native apps vs either of them as native apps always exceed the other two. React Native is closer to native apps in terms of performance. And a little ahead of Ionic. React Native uses JavaScript to build native apps, so it has the same look and feel like a native app, and even uses the same building blocks that native apps use. On the other hand, Ionic is a hybrid approach. It doesn’t build native apps and you can encounter performance issues as there are lots of callbacks to the native code. This can also cause a lag. Also, you have to use the Cordova plugin if you want to access native features. One has to deal with performance issues while building UIs. So, if we sum this up, React Native is quite better in terms of performance. 5. Developer Community Community is something we all consider when choosing a certain technology to learn. The more people are involved in it, the faster it grows with time. GitHub stats indicate strong community involvement in both technologies. React Native has over 1900 contributors to the framework, while Ionic has around 330 contributors to the framework. React Native has 78k stars while Ionic has 38k stars. Hence, in terms of community, React Native is far ahead of ionic. But with the recent updates, we can expect Ionic to have greater community involvement in the coming months. P.S. Whatever framework you prefer, we love both! We are a Mobile App Development Company in Dubai with a strong clientele base all across UAE. For the design and development of any kind of app, we’re ready to help. Get in touch for more details.

technology
I own a Steam Deck, gaming PC and laptop. Technology is my special interest; I hyperfixate on machine learning, hardware repair, programming and hacking.
👾 programming :
I know a little bittle of Assembly, CSS, C#, C++ and JS, and a lottle of HTML and LSL!
I've written a Google Gemini API bridge for Second Life. I've also written a worn headpatter that lets people feed you snacks and a dynamic terrain footstep "library", and heavily modified the Ostiabs' Elevenlabs TTS.
I wrote a feed-forward non-parallel reinforcement network before - it was a pet doggy! I've modified pretrained genetic perceptrons. I selfhost an ethically trained 20b fp32 8-bit quant'd gguf GPT-3, and sometimes an ethically trained 13b 8bit gguf llama3 GPT-3.5.
Closing thoughts: my beliefs on AI are strong, just because I love machine learning doesn't mean I have to capitulate my values... I don't like company solutions (barring, say, runbox). I take little issue with ethically trained models save for AI art models. We just don't live in a society where they are capable of being ethically or morally feasible.
🤫 hacking :
I once got to have a conversational spot with a cybersecurity analyst who is famous on YouTube!!
I've done a miniscule amount of reverse-engineering for the ForgeLight engine, its' packet opcodes and its' asset server hierarchy.
I've reverse-engineered one of the scantly mentioned annoying crash exploits performed by Minecraft masscan botnets... it intentionally crashes Fabric servers in a magically stupid way via a popular library!
I love WinDBG and am well-versed in reading dmp files from it, and you should totally send me your full untampered memory dump right now. [/j]
🕹️gaming :
singleplayer > Audiosurf 2, Flight Rising, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, FATE: The Cursed King, GemCraft, Jurassic World 2, Orwell, Planet Zoo, Resident Evil, Sims 2
multiplayer with mod > Creatures: Docking Station, Peggle, Rimworld, Sims 3, Sims 4, Skyrim, Slime Rancher, Subnautica, Webkinz
multiplayer > ARK:SE, Bloons TD 6, Depth, Dino Run SE, Distance, Don't Starve Together, Dying Light, Fall Guys, Golf With Your Friends, Guild Wars 2, Minecraft, MultiVersus, Path of Titans, Party Animals, Palworld, Risk of Rain 2, Second Life, Space Station 13, Space Station 14, Starbound, The Isle, Tower Unite, Unitystation
🔎 misc. factoids :
I have autism, C-PTSD, OCD, chronic pancreatitis and gastroparesis. I don't have a gallbladder. I used to have some malingering psychosis dx when I was younger, but for some reason I grew out of experiencing visual or physical hallucinations and only get sound ones or the feeling of being watched (good thing I made it Weird. That's a great coping mechanism actually, highly recommend) and I don't really think I fit in that dx at all.
Part of my autism is being hyperspecific and logorrheic. It's a big part of my life, sorry!
I am transmasc, and I don't have fallopian tubes, ovaries* or a uterus. 😎
I love matcha green tea, soymilk, maple, sweet red bean, setsumaimo and honey. My favorite food is avocado sushi or veggie cabbage dumplings.
I love medicine, especially biotechnology and pharmacology. I love reading medical papers. I love pirating them!! Shout out to Elsevier for hosting such piratable ones!!!
I'm super bodily transhumanist. I have a Freestyle Libre and a PEG-J feeding tube!
I'm completely immune to the entire class of benzodiazepines and my body doesn't process morphine. I have no idea if it's just not demethylating or I have opioid receptor polymorphism, but the latter is more likely than the former. That makes me tough :3c
I totally fully believe everything my favorite characters do is morally correct and will imitate it in real life, and I fully condone all of their horrible actions! /j/j/j/j
Thanks for reading, I hope we can be friends!

Week 8: Face Filters
Filtering Our Reality: Face Filters and the Fun (and Maybe Not-So-Fun) of Social Media
Face filters are fun, let's face it. Who doesn't like taking a photo with freckles from the sun, looking like a cat, or applying sparkly virtual makeup? They're a lighthearted approach for us to express ourselves and liven up our social media presence. I have been wondering, though, if face filters are going too far these days.
Tumblr media
When talking about face filter, it is undeniable that one popular social networking platform is Instagram, where users may share mostly photographs and videos. Instagram's filters are among its most prominent features which are getting more and more popular thanks to this app. Instagram-style filters can provide a sense of novelty to our regular images and selfies, but the impact of defamiliarization wears off and turns into a cliché since the filter is used so frequently (Jill Walker Rettberg 2014). Our ordinary images aren't meant to be works of art, though, for the most part. In an attempt to promote unrealistic beauty standards, Instagram filters often distort face features, body proportions, and skin tones. Moreover, when people compare themselves to the idealized images of themselves shown in filtered pictures, an excessive usage of filters can result in poor self-esteem and dissatisfaction with one's actual looks. This might lead to anxiety over one's own standards of beauty. When exposed to media information often, viewers begin to accept media visuals as accurate depictions of reality (Grabe, 2008).
Tumblr media
Positively, filters provide a variety of artistic opportunities. They may improve a picture's aesthetic appeal and turn a common snapshot into a piece of art. A well-selected filter has the power to convey a specific tone or aesthetic, enabling users to visually represent who they are. In addition to being instructional tools, filters may introduce viewers to various color schemes and photographic styles. In addition, filters have the potential to enhance confidence, especially for those who are self-conscious about their looks (Jill Walker Rettberg 2014). Users are encouraged to submit photographs they may not have otherwise, thanks to brief confidence boosts from subtle blemish-reducing filters or skin-smoothing effects. As a result, it may also be a means of self-expression, giving users the chance to experiment with virtual cosmetics or fantasy effects and try out various styles. In addition, the environment is compounded by gender and filters (Iftikhar et al, 2023) discovered that although both sexes utilize Instagram altering filters, women do so more frequently. To sum up, Instagram filters are a double-edged sword. Though they provide opportunities for creativity, self-assurance, and artistic expression, their excessive usage can lead to unattainable beauty standards, encourage inauthenticity, and impede the advancement of photographic abilities. The secret is to utilize it responsibly. While filters are a great tool for adding fun to images and expressing oneself, they shouldn't be used as a crutch that distorts reality or takes the place of actual connection.

Django and client-side javascript templates
Intro
I'm currently writing a very standard Django based app (basically a fancy CRM/contact list sort of thing). It's sort of working, but as I keep trying to improve the interface with more and more AJAXy UI code (using jQuery) it's starting to get to be a real pain to work with. I'm getting long blocks of fragile jQuery event handlers which parse the DOM, push changes back to the server, get some JSON back, and try and update the DOM based on that.
I feel like, at a minimum, I probably want to add some client-side templates into the mix. Alternatively, I could try and switch to a JS framework, and just use my Django app as a database abstraction layer. Or even though I know and love Python, I could abandon the Django app, and try and go with a JS/Node.js solution or something.
Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you solve it?
Design goals
DRY: I don't want to have to replicate my models or my templates (or at least, any more than necessary).
I want visitors landing on a page to get the results rendereed server-side.
As visitors click on things, I'd like to handle that via client-side templates and rendering, and keep the server updated via AJAX calls to a REST interface.
So...how do I do this? I've collected links to a few frameworks and template systems. In no particular order:
dust.js:
This is apparently being used by LinkedIn to solve a similar problem. It uses Node.js on the server side which is not ideal (I've never used Node) but at least it's not JVM based. It also appears to be dormant on github - I've found mailing lists where people have been wondering where the maintainer went. It does sound pretty good - the blog post from LinkedIn does a good job selling the technology, especially the ability to compile it. But it appears to JUST be templating. Is that enough for what I want?
Mustache:
This option has both Python and JS implementations, and seems popular...but I can't find anyone who seems to be using Mustache templates with Django. Is that 'cause it's too easy to deserve a blog post, or is it impossible or otherwise inadvisable? It's also pretty limited; at a minimum I'd probably need to turn to some sort of MVC JS framework, right?
Backbone, Spine, KnockoutJS, EmberJS, JavascriptMVC, etc:
There's so many frameworks it's kind of daunting. All of them seem perfectly good at first glance. It also seems like I'd need to rewrite a LOT of my app if I went this route, and I'd really would like to find someone who has actually done something like this already. Also, it'd be nice if there was a clear choice for someone coming from Django as a background; I don't want to have to learn a half dozen different frameworks to evaluate them.
DerbyJS
This looks interesting as it handles both the client and server sides in one package, but a bit immature. They warn against using it in production, and if I understand the docs it doesn't yet support any form of persistence, which is...limiting. I get the feeling that if it was finished it would be perfect for what I want though...
So....
So, uh...now what? Has anyone used any of these tools to try and add client-side rendering to a Django webapp? How did it go?

Top 9 Reasons Startups Must Harness Node.JS
Tumblr media
Node.JS came into existence in 2009. It is a Javascript runtime environment that has garnered immense popularity over the years. It has immense potential and that?s why even big brands prefer using Node.JS.
Node.JS development companies in India say that this client-side programming language becomes an obvious choice for the development of cutting-edge web apps on account of the myriad of benefits it offers. More often than not we are asked whether or not startups can also benefit from Node.JS.
The answer is- Yes!
And to explain why let?s take a look at these 9 reasons/benefits listed below.
1. Easily scalable
Scalability is one of the strong points of Node.JS and that becomes possible owing to its vast array of features. One of those notable features is its cluster module. Load balancing over multiple module cores makes the whole process a cinch as smaller modules can be utilized without affecting the RAM process.
Developers prefer Node.JS as it allows you to harness Microservices. This helps segregate your app into small parts. Task defining and allocation with increased efficiency is a result of these features.
Also on one hand you can speed up development and deployment, and on the other, the maintenance part can be managed with sheer ease. Node.JS apps support both horizontal and vertical scaling.
2. High-performance for real-time applications
Node. JS empowers you with multitasking abilities. Its event-driven architecture is single-threaded and that helps process multiple concurrent requests without weighing down the RAM.
No wonder, it is preferred by the biggest of brands such as Walmart, Uber, and Netflix. Apart from this, Node.JS facilitates code execution at an astonishingly rapid pace. It allows non-blocking I/O operations and event-loop to improve the overall performance of the application.
High performance is ensured as Node.JS is built on Google Chrome?s V8 Engine. Also, it is written in C++ which helps break Javascript functions into highly efficient machine codes.
3. Continuous improvements
Node.JS is famous for continuous evolvement. For instance, Google launched the V8 Benchmark suite to take Node?s performance notches higher and it becomes evident in execution, security patchworks, and scalability.
4. Cost-effectiveness
Writing server-side code in Javascript is a breeze with Node.JS which explains why it is so popular amongst the developers.
The best part is that codes can be written on both the front-end and back-end. Many enterprises have benefitted from choosing Node.JS. A case study says how Linked In?s migration from ROR to Node.JS helped them reduce the number of servers needed. It enhanced efficiency and resource delegation which further helped them to focus on what matters the most- App development.
5. Easy to learn and used in a wide array of applications
Node.JS is deemed perfect to be used in the development of a wide array of applications including:
Multiplayer games
Chat programs
Real-time web apps
Social media apps
Collaboration tools
Messaging apps
Applications involving streaming
6. Easy to learn
Node.JS is pretty easy to learn and adapt. That's one of the primary reasons it is perfect for start-ups. All you need to be comfortable with Node.JS is to know Javascript and Object-oriented programming in and out.
What's more?
You also have a plethora of interactive courses and tutorials on GitHub that make learning Node.JS a cakewalk.
7. Short time-to-market cycles
Node.JS is astonishingly lightweight and that helps expedite the app development process. As a start-up, you can save a considerable amount of time on application development. Consequently, faster time-to-market can be expected with Node.JS development.
Being one of the most trusted Node.JS development companies in India, Citta Solutions has plenty of case studies showing why Node.JS is the go-to programming language for start-ups when it comes to developing a wide array of feature-rich and high-end web applications.
8. MVP development
MVP stands for? minimum viable product?
Simply put, it is a piece of software with enough features to launch the product for the first few customers without having to pour in all your money into development as it is enough to fulfil the needs of your customers, and of course, suffices to market your product. Node.JS is your perfect pick for MVP development.
9. Community support
Node.JS developers have the support of a vast Node community. By seeking necessary help from the community and leveraging tools, they can speed up app development and save their precious time.
And here it makes sense to mention NPM which happens to be Node's package ecosystem. It is one of the largest software registries across the globe. Here you have countless libraries and reusable templates at your disposal.
Conclusion:
Node.JS has a lot to offer to start-ups and if you hire the right Node.js developer, you can take your enterprise to an all-new level. Citta Solutions is one of the most sought-after Node.JS app development companies with a vast portfolio. If you need to discuss your app development project or hire Node.JS developers, feel free to get in touch with us.
