People on this website really trying to downplay the specific role of destiel in the events of November 5th 2020 âit could have been any other ship that went canon at that time and had the same effectâ no.
Nothing else is destiel.
Nothing else is 12 years and hundreds of episodes of extremely obvious and deliberate queerbaiting that was Vehemently denied by the production team. Nothing else is the ship about characters whose larger overarching plot is literally fighting against their own pre-determined narrative to attain free will. Nothing else proved in the 11th hour Just before the show ended that the meta narrative and queer reading by fans who insisted there was something there and who were constantly called crazy by the production and by other fans and by the rest of the internet were RIGHT.
The CW did market research! About whether to make it canon! In a show they always pretended was aimed primarily at middle (conservative) America!!!
The queer subtext was so Fucking Strong by the end of the show, because the writers constantly wrote themselves into corners that could Only be explained away by destiel, that they HAD to admit defeat and canonize it.
And THEN even after they made it canon, they denied it some more and tried to downplay it! But it happened! The angel is fucking gay!!!!
Destiel is THE great American queerbait and had been a staple of the culture of this site for over a decade before November 5 2020. There is a REASON it is the most popular ship on AO3. âThe same thing would have happened if johnlock became canon or spirk or whatever elseâ no it simply would not have because crucially CRUCIALLY those ships Never Became Canon! The fact that Destiel of all the popular queerbait slash ships of the past few decades somehow at long last DID, and in a way that Still refused to just let the shippers have it and allow any implication of full reciprocation and that the final two episodes and the entire cast absolutely refused to acknowledge in any way, is why the canonization of destiel is one of the wildest things to happen to fandom culture as a whole in recent memory, and you cannot theoretically remove the destiel of it all and have it be the same kind of event.
The reason november 5 happened like it did, why people started making jokes at all, is because the fandom cultural juggernaut that is destiel becoming canon is the only thing that could have possibly managed to trend above the U.S. election. BECAUSE itâs destiel.
#i decided to make my own post instead of disagreeing with the op directly but#if you think the same thing would have happened with any ship other than destiel you ar playing yourself#i joined this fucking website in 2013 because of#destiel#like just because you didnât watch the show doesnât mean no one did bud#spn#Caitie speaks#nov 5 2020#spn posting#nov 5th

how did you start to write? kinda curious to know your trajectory
story time! (really happy you asked, hehe.) note: if anyone's interested in going through my past writings, let me know and i'll probably make a google drive folder lol.
I've been addicted to gaming ever since I was younger and I've always had hyperfixations that would come and go. Middle school was when I realized I had a love for reading books (mainly young adult, romance, fiction + manga) and I used to always spend my time in the school library during my lunch breaks.
2012: I was 13 and almost graduated from middle school. I adored Zelda/Link as a ship so much that I Googled 'Zelda x Link' to look for cute art, only to stumble across a website: Fanfiction.net. Yep. That site.
I read through a couple of stories and found myself hooked. I made an account, and I decided to start writing my own stories.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl had a huge impact on my life and holds a special place in my heart. It was all I'd ever written and thought about when I first started.
( putting a read more to elaborate further on my writing journey. )
Around 2013, though, someone put a wrench on my Fanfiction.net journey by reporting my story -- it wasn't anything horrible, it was just a cringe Truth or Dare fanfiction that someone and their group said was "against" Fanfiction.net rules. That story got deleted, and out of impulse and feeling depressed, I deleted every single fanfiction I'd ever posted on my account.
I deeply regret doing so, because there were so many ideas that I can't look back on because my memory isn't able to recall a whole lot of them.
At least a few weeks after, though, I got onto Tumblr and got into Tumblr roleplaying! Fairy Tail was my next huge fixation and I made a roleplay blog focused on Edo-Cana from the Edolas arc (after I spoke with an Edo-Lucy blog). After I lost my inspiration for Edo-Cana, I moved on to Evergreen, and then Lucy Heartfilia.
I believe I lost interest in roleplaying on Tumblr around 2014.
2014: I was still writing on Fanfiction.net, but as usual, I would delete my fics when they didn't satisfy me. I wrote for a couple of other fandoms ranging from Big Hero Six, Rise of the Guardians/Young Justice, and more. I'd also joined websites like Quotev and Wattpad.
2015: In my junior year of high school, I made a friend who also had an interest in roleplaying. She introduced me to this one roleplaying website which allowed me to continue with writing.
However, as you can probably see, I have the absolutely terrible habit of losing interest in things quickly. I ended up quitting roleplaying due to that.
I also joined Archiveofourown. I don't remember if I'd ever posted anything around the time of joining. This is the one year I don't remember much for.
I also continued to post on Fanfiction.net:
As per usual, it lasted for *almost* a year.
November 10th, 2016 was the last time I ever posted on my Fanfiction.net account.
I had a dry spell when it came to writing for a good year and a half from 2016-2017.
April 21 2017: I played Final Fantasy XV and (it's what I hyperfixated on for a good 2 years). Around April 27-28, I already had a hankering for wanting to write fanfiction for it. I have so many ideas that haven't seen the light of day, and probably never will.
There's so many drafts, mostly unfinished, just sitting in my Google Drive.
August 2018: I posted a Prompto Argentum x Reader fic on archiveofourown, but eventually orphaned it and everything else I had posted.
October 2018: My hyperfixation for Red Dead Redemption 2 started. I thought up of ideas, plotlines, etc.
February 2019: I posted 3 Arthur Morgan x Reader fics. Which, you can probably already guess what the fuck happened to those. *orphaned. woooow.*
March 2019: I swore off writing anything else for my old Fanfiction.net account, and have left all of my fanfiction saved there.
2020-2021: Once more, I stopped writing and focused on trying to get through day by day life considering it was the COVID outbreak and I was only ever working. I never stopped reading fanfiction though. It's what's kept my writing decent -- at least, that's what I feel like. 2020 was when my hyperfixation on Final Fantasy 7/Remake started. I would think up of things.
March 23, 2022: (Not a writing thing, but I like to make note of it.) The start of my hyperfixation on Jujutsu Kaisen and Gojo!
December 2022: I finally posted a fic after so long. Haven't deleted it, and I swear I won't.
January 2023: Wrote my first ever M rated fic for Nero the Sable from Final Fantasy 7 Remake x Reader, and told myself I'd go back to writing. I haven't posted anything else on AO3 since then.
August 11, 2023: I learned of and created an account on character.ai!
September 18, 2023: I started making character.ai bots!
TL;DR:
As you can see, I'm an inconsistent person and have occasional moments of inspiration and eventually get tired of things. There will be times when I need a break from writing, so I apologize if it takes me a bit to get through all of my requests.

youtube
I was invited to give a talk on GamerGate over Zoom in early 2021. I've long been frustrated that there isn't a good timeline of GG and its origins on YouTube. When people ask "what the hell was GG anyway?" they often get referred to my or Dan Olson's videos on the subject, but both of them were made while GG was ongoing, and presumed a degree of familiarity on the part of the audience. There was just too much to say about what was already happening to spend time getting the audience up to speed, and it was safe to assume our audiences had enough context to follow along. But time moves fast on the internet, and many people who now care about such things weren't there while it was happening, and are lacking the necessary context to follow the better videos. For a long time, I've only been able to direct them to RationalWiki's timeline, which is excellent but so exhaustively comprehensive that it's likely to scare off first-timers.
I realize an hourlong lecture isn't necessarily helping matters, but the first 20-or-so minutes of this video are my attempt at streamlining the timeline such that people can be up to speed on the most important stuff fairly quickly. The rest is talking about what it all meant, how it prefigured the Alt-Right, and using it to better understand digital radicalization.
This video was made with the help of Magdalen Rose, who edited the slides to the audio while I was laid up with a back injury. Go sub to her channel! And please back me on Patreon.
Transcript below the cut.
FUCKING VIDEO GAMES? FUCKING VIDEO GAMES. THEY MADE DOZENS OF PEOPLE MISERABLE FOR YEARS OVER VIDEO GAMES! NOT EVEN FUCKING VIDEO GAMES, FUCKING ARTICLES ABOUT FUCKING VIDEO GAMES. THIS IS WHAT PASSES FOR LEGITIMATE GRIEVANCE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS SHIT??
Hi! My name is Ian Danskin. Iâm a video essayist and media artist. I run the YouTube channel Innuendo Studios, please like share and subscribe.
Iâm here to talk to you about GamerGate, and I needed to get all that out of the way. Iâm going to talk about what GamerGate was and how it prefigured The Alt-Right, and there are gonna be moments where youâre nodding along with me, going, âyeah, yeah I get it,â and then the sunâs gonna break through a crack in the wall and youâll suddenly remember that all this is happening because some folks - mostly ladies - said some stuff - provably true stuff, I might add - about video games and a bunch of guys didnât like it, and youâre gonna want to rip your hair out. By the end of this, you will have a better understanding of what happened, but it will never not be bullshit.
Also, oh my god, content warning. Racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia, rape threats, threats of violence, domestic abuse - Iâm not going to depict or describe at length any of the worst stuff, but itâs all in the mix. So if at any point you need to switch me off or mute me, you have my blessing.
Brace yourselves.
Some quick prehistory:
In 2012, feminist media critic Anita Sarkeesian ran a Kickstarter campaign for a YouTube series on sexist tropes in video games. And, partway through the campaign, 4chan found it and said âletâs ruin her life.â And a lot of the male general gaming public joined in. And by âruin her lifeâ Iâm not talking 150 angry tweets including dozens of rape and death threats per week, though that was a thing. Iâm talking bomb threats. Iâm talking canceled speaking engagements because someone threatened to shoot up a school. Iâm talking FBI investigation. The harassers faced no meaningful repercussions.
And in 2013, Zoe Quinn released Depression Quest, a free text game about living with depression. They received harassment off and on for the next year, most pointedly from an incel forum called Wizardchan that doxxed their phone number and made harassing phone calls telling them to kill themself. The harassers faced no meaningful repercussions.
(Also, quick note: Zoe Quinn is nonbinary and has come out since the events in question. When I call Zoeâs harassment misogynist, understand I am not calling Zoe a woman, but they were attacked by people who hate women because thatâs how they were perceived. Had they been out at the time things probably wouldâve gone down similarly, but on top of misogyny Iâd be talking about nonbinary erasure and transphobia.)
Okay. Our story begins in August 2014. The August that never ended.
Depression Quest, after a prolonged period on Greenlight, finally releases on Steam as a free download with the option to pay what you want. In the days that follow, Zoeâs ex-boyfriend, Eron Gjoni, writes a nearly 10,000-word blog called The Zoe Post, in which he claims Quinn had been a shitty and unfaithful partner. (For reference, 10,000 words is long enough that the Hugos would consider it a novelette.) This is posted to forums on Penny Arcade and Something Awful, both of which immediately take it down, finding it, at best, a lot of toxic hearsay and, at worse, an invitation to harassment. So Gjoni workshops the post, adds a bunch of edgelord humor (and I am using the word âhumorâ very generously), and reposts it to three different subforums on 4chan.
Weâre not going to litigate whether Zoe Quinn was a good partner. I donât know or care. I donât think anyone on this call is trying to date them so Iâm not sure thatâs our business. What is known is that the relationship lasted five months, and, after it ended, Gjoni began stalking Quinn. Gjoni has, in fact, laid out how he stalked Quinn in meticulous detail to interviewers and why he feels it was justified. Itâs also been corroborated by a friend that Quinn briefly considered taking him back at a games conference in San Francisco, but he became violent during sex and Quinn left the apartment in the middle of the night with visible bruises.
Off of the abusive ex-boyfriendâs post, 4chan decides itâs going to make Zoe Quinn one of their next targets, and starts a private IRC channel to plan the campaign. The channel is called #BurgersAndFries, a reference to Gjoni claiming Quinn had cheated on him with five guys. A couple sentences in The Zoe Post - which Gjoni would later claim were a typo - imply that one of the five guys was games journalist Nathan Grayson and that Quinn had slept with him in exchange for a good review of Depression Quest. Given the anger that theyâd seen drummed up against women in games with the previous Anita Sarkeesian hate mob, #BurgersAndFries decides to focus on this breach of âethics in games journalismâ as a cover story, many of them howling with laughter at the thought that male gamers would probably buy it. This way, destroying Quinnâs life and career and turning their community against them would appear an unfortunate byproduct of a legitimate consumer revolt; criticism of the harassment could even be framed as a distraction from the bigger issue. Gjoni himself is in the IRC channel telling them that this was the best hand to play.
The stated aim of many on #BurgersAndFries was to convince Quinn to commit suicide.
Two regulars in the IRC, YouTubers MundaneMatt and Internet Aristocrat, make videos about The Zoe Post. Incidentally, both these men had already made a lot of money off videos about Anita Sarkeesian. Mattâs is swiftly taken down with a DMCA claim, and he says that Quinn filed the claim themself. (For the record, in those days, YouTube didnât tell you who filed DMCA claims against you.) Members of the IRC also reach out to YouTuber TotalBiscuit, who had been critical of Sarkeesian and dismissive of her harassment, and he tweets the story to his 350,000 followers, saying a game developer trading sex for a good review might not prove true, but was certainly plausible.
This is where GamerGate begins to get public traction.
Zoe Quinn is very swiftly doxxed, with their phone number, home address, nudes, and names and numbers of their family collected. Gjoni himself leaks their birth name. The Zoe Post, and the movement against Quinn - now dubbed âThe Quinnspiracyâ - make it to The Escapist and Reddit, which mods will have little luck removing. The Quinnspiracy declares war on any site that does take their threads down, most vehemently NeoGAF. People who defend Zoe against the harassment start getting doxxed themselves - Fez developer Phil Fish is doxxed so thoroughly, hackers get access to the root folder of his website.
In what Iâm going to call This Should Have Been The End, Part 1, Stephen Totilo, Editor-in-Chief at Kotaku where Nathan Grayson worked, in response to pressure not just from The Quinnspiracy but an increasing number of angry gamers buying The Quinnspiracyâs narrative, publishes a story. In it he verifies that Quinn and Grayson did date for several months, and that not only is there no review of Depression Quest anywhere on Kotaku, not by Grayson nor anyone else, but that Grayson did not write a single word about Quinn the entire time they were dating.
In response, The Quinnspiracy declares war on Kotaku. r/KotakuinAction is formed, which will become the primary site of organization outside of chanboards. The fact that their entire âmovementâ is based on a review that does not exist changes next to nothing.
Some people start to see The Quinnspiracy as potentially profitable. The Fine Young Capitalists get involved, a group ostensibly working to get women into video games but who have a Byzantine plan to do so wherein they crowdfund the budget and the woman who wins a competition gets to storyboard a game, but another company will make and she will get 8% of the profits, the rest going to a charity chosen by the top donor. 4chan becomes the top donor. They like TFYC because the head of the company has a vendetta against Zoe Quinn, who had previously called them out for their transphobic submission policy, and he falsely accused Quinn of having once doxxed him. 4chan feels backing an ostensibly feminist effort will be good PR, but canât resist selecting a colon cancer charity because, they say, feminism is cancer and they want to be the cure to butthurt. They also get to design a character for the game, and so they create Vivian James, who will become the GamerGate mascot.
Manosphere YouTubers Jordan Owen and Davis Aurini launch a Patreon campaign for their antifeminist documentary The Sarkeesian Effect and come to The Quinnspiracy looking for $15,000 a month for an indefinite period to make it, which they get.
In what will prove genuinely awful timing, Anita Sarkeesian releases the second episode of Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, and, despite not being a games journalist and having nothing to do with Quinn or Grayson, she is immediately roped into the narrative about how feminists are ruining games culture and becomes the second major target of harassment. Both she and Quinn soon have to leave their houses after having receiving dozens and dozens of death threats that include their home addresses.
After being courted by members of the IRC channel, Firefly star Adam Baldwin tweets a link to one of the Quinnspiracy videos and coins the hashtag #GamerGate. This is swiftly adopted by all involved.
In response to all this, Leigh Alexander writes a piece for Gamasutra arguing that the identity that these men are flocking to the âethics in games journalismâ narrative to defend no longer matters as a marketing demographic. Gaming and games culture is so large and so varied, and the âcore gamerâ audience of 18-34 white bros growing smaller and septic, that there was no reason, neither morally nor financially, to treat them as the primary audience anymore. Love of gaming is eternal, but, she declared, âgamers,â as an identity, âare over.â Eight more articles contextualizing GamerGate alongside misogyny and the gatekeeping of games culture come out across several websites in the following days. GamerGate frames these as a clear sign of [deep sigh] collusion to oppress gamers, proving that ethics in games journalism is, indeed, broken, and Leigh Alexander becomes the third major target of harassment. These become known as the âgamers are deadâ articles - a phrase not one of them uses - and they make âget Leigh Alexander fired from Gamasutraâ one of their primary goals.
Something I need you to understand is that it has, at this point, been two weeks.
Highlights from the next little bit: Alex Macris, a higher up at The Escapistâs parent company, expresses support for GamerGate; he will go on to write the first positive coverage at a major publication and cement The Escapist as GamerGate-friendly. Mike Cernovich, aka âBased Lawyer,â gets GamerGateâs attention by mocking Anita Sarkeesian; he will go on to hire a private investigator to stalk Zoe Quinn. GamerGate launches Operation Disrespectful Nod, an email campaign pressuring companies to pull advertising from websites that have criticized them. They leverage their POC members, getting them, any time someone points out the rampant racism and antisemitism among GamerGaters, to say âI am a person of color and I am #NotYourShieldâ; most of these âPOC membersâ are fake accounts left over from a previous, racist disinformation campaign. Milo Yiannapoulos gets involved, writing positive coverage of GG despite having mocked gamers for precisely this behavior in the past, and gets so much traffic it pulls Breitbart News out of obscurity and makes it a significant player in modern conservative news media.
[Hey! Ian from the future here. This talk mostly addresses how GamerGate prefigured the Alt-Right strategically and philosophically, but if you want a more explicit, material connection: Breitbart News took its newfound notoriety to become, as its Executive Chair phrased it in 2016, "a platform for the Alt-Right." That Executive Chair was Steve Bannon, who threw the website's weight behind The Future President Who Shall Not Be Named, and, upon getting his attention, would then go on to become his campaign strategist and work in his Administration. So, if you're wondering how one of the central figures of the Alt-Right ended up in the White House, the answer is literally "GamerGate." Back to you, Ian from the past!]
In what Iâm calling This Should Have Been The End, Part 2, Zoe Quinn announces that they have been lurking the #BurgersAndFries IRC channel since the beginning and releases dozens of screenshots showing harassment being planned and the selection of âethics in games journalismâ as a cover. #BurgersAndFries has a meltdown, everyone turns on each other, and the channel is abandoned. And they then start another IRC and things proceed.
It goes on like this. Iâm not gonna cover everything. This is just the first month. It should be clear by now that this thing is kind of unkillable. And I worry I havenât made it obvious that this is not just a chanboard and an IRC. Thousands of regular, every day gamers were buying the story and joining in. They were angry, and no amount of evidence that their anger was unfounded was going to change that. You could not mention or even allude to GamerGate and not get flooded with dozens, even hundreds of furious replies. These replies always included the hashtag so everyone monitoring it could join in, so all attempts at real conversation devolved into a hundred forking threads where some people expected you to talk to them while others hurled insults and slurs. And always the possibility that, if any one of them didnât like what you said, youâd be the next target.
To combat this, some progressives offered up the hashtag #GameEthics to the people getting swept up in GamerGate, saying, âlook, we get that youâre angry, and if you want to talk about ethics in games journalism, we can totally do that, but using your hashtag is literally putting us in danger; they calling the police on people saying thereâs a hostage situation at their home addresses so they get sent armed SWAT teams, and if youâll just use this other hashtag we can have the conversation you say you want to have in safety.â And I will ever stop being salty about what happened.
They refused. They wouldnât cede any ground to what they saw as their opposition. It was so important to have the conversation on their terms that not only did they refuse to use #GameEthics, they spammed it with furry porn so no one could use it.
A few major events on the timeline before we move on: Christina Hoff Sommers, the Republican Partyâs resident âfeminist,â comes out criticizing Anita Sarkeesian and becomes a major GG figurehead, earning the title Based Mom. Zoe Quinn gets a restraining order against Eron Gjoni, which he repeatedly violates, to no consequence; GG will later crowdfund his legal fees. Thereâs this listserv called GameJournoPros where game journalists would talk about their jobs, and many are discussing their concerns over GamerGate, so Milo Yiannopoulos leaks it and this is framed as further âproof of collusion.â 4chan finally starts enforcing its âno doxâ rules and shuts GamerGate threads down, so they migrate to 8chan, a site famous for hosting like a lot of child porn. Indie game developer Brianna Wu makes a passing joke about GamerGate on Twitter and they decide, seemingly on a whim, to make her one of the biggest targets in the entire movement; she soon has to leave her home as well. GamerGate gets endorsements from WikiLeaks, Infowars, white nationalist sites Stormfront and The Daily Stormer, and professional rapist RooshV. And hundreds of people get doxxed; an 8chan subforum called Baphomet is created primarily to host dox of GamerGateâs critics.
But by November, GamerGate popularity was cresting, as more and more mainstream media covered it negatively. Their last, big spike in popularity came when Anita Sarkeesian went on The Colbert Report and Stephen made fun of the movement. Their numbers never recovered after that.
Which is not to say GamerGate ended. It slowed down. The period of confusion where the mainstream world couldnât tell whether it was a legitimate movement or not passed. But, again, most harassers faced no meaningful repercussions. Gamers who bought the lie about âethics in games journalismâ stayed mad that no one had ever taken them seriously, and harassers continued to grief their targets for years. The full timeline of GamerGate is an constant cycle of lies, harassment, operations, grift, and doxxing. Dead-enders are to this day still using the hashtag. And remember how Anita had nothing to do with ethics in games journalism or Zoe Quinn, and they just roped her in because theyâd enjoyed harassing her before so why not? Every one of GamerGateâs targets knows that they may get dragged into some future harassment campaign just because. Itâs already happened to several of them. Theyâre marked.
(sigh) Letâs take a breath.
Now that we know what GamerGate was, letâs talk about why it worked.
In the thick of GamerGate, I started compiling a list of tactics I saw them using. I wanted to make a video essay that was one part discussion of antifeminist backlash, and one part list of techniques these people use so we can better recognize and anticipate their behavior. That first part became six parts and the second part went on a back burner. It would eventually become my series, The Alt-Right Playbook. GamerGate is illustrative because most of what would become The Alt-Right Playbook was in use.
Two foundational principles of The Alt-Right Playbook are Control the Conversation and Never Play Defense. Make sure people are talking about what you want them to talk about, and take an aggressive posture so you look dominant even when youâre not making sense. For instance: once Zoe leaked the IRC chatlogs, a reasonable person could tell the average gater, âthe originators of GamerGate were planning harassment from the very beginning.â But the gater would say, âyouâre cherry-picking; not everyone was a harasser.â
Now, this is a bad argument - thatâs not how you use âcherry-pickingâ - and itâs being framed as an accusation - youâre not just wrong, youâre dishonest - which makes you wanna defend yourself. But, if you do - if you tell them why that argument is crap - youâve let the conversation move from âdid the IRC plan harassment?â - a question of fact - to âare the harassers representative of the movement?â - a question of ethics. Like, yes, they are, but only within a certain moral framework. An ethics question has no provable answer, especially if people are willing to make a lot of terrible arguments. It is their goal to move any question with a definitive answer to a question of philosophy, to turn an argument they canât win into an argument nobody can win.
The trick is to treat the question you asked like itâs already been answered and bait you into addressing the next question. By arguing about whether youâre cherry-picking, youâre accepting the premise that whether youâre cherry-picking is even relevant. Any time this happens, itâs good to pause and ask, âwhat did we just skip over?â Because that will tell you a lot.
What you skipped over is their admission that, yes, the IRC did plan harassment, but thatâs only on them if most of the movement was in on it. Which is a load of crap - the rest of the IRC saw it happening, let it happen, itâs not like anybody warned Zoe, and shit, Iâm having the cherry-picking argument! They got me! You see how tempting it is? But presumably the reason you brought the harassment up is because you want them to do something about it. At the very least, leave the movement, but ideally try and stop it. They donât, strictly speaking, need to feel personally responsible to do that. And you might be thinking, well, maybe if I can get them take responsibility then theyâll do something, but youâd be falling for a different technique I call I Hate Mondays.
This is where people will acknowledge a terrible thing is happening, maybe even agree itâs bad, but they donât believe anything can be done about it. They also donât believe you believe anything can be done about it. Mondays suck, but they come around every week. This is never stated outright, but itâs why youâre arguing past each other. To them, the only reason to talk about the bad thing is to assign blame. Whose turn is it to get shit on for the unsolvable problem? Their argument about cherry-picking amounts to â1-2-3 not it.â And they are furious with you for trying to make them responsible for harassment they didnât participate in.
The unspoken argument is that harassment is part of being on the internet. Every public figure deals with it. This ignores any concept of scale - why does one person get harassed more than another? - but you canât argue with someone who views it as a binary: harassment either happens or it doesnât, and, if it does, itâs a fact of life, and, if it happens to everyone, itâs not gendered. And this is not a strongly-held belief theyâve come to after years of soul-searching - this is what theyâve just decided they believe. They want to participate in GamerGate despite knowing its purpose, and this is what would need to be true for that to be ok.
Or maybe theyâre just fucking with you! Maybe you canât tell. Maybe they canât tell, either. I call this one The Card Says Moops, where people say whatever they feel will score points in an argument and are so irony-poisoned they have no idea whether they actually believe it. A very useful trick if the thing you appear to believe is unconscionable. You canât take what people like that say at face value; you can only intuit their beliefs from their actions. They say they believe this one minute and that another, but their behavior is always in accordance with that, not this.
In the negative space, their belief is, âThe harassment of these women is okay. My anger about video games is more important. I may not be harassing them myself, but they do kind of deserve it.â They will never say this out loud in a serious conversation, though many will say it in an anonymous or irreverent space where they can later deny they meant it. But, whatever they say they believe, this is the worldview they are operating under.
Obscuring this means flipping through a lot of contradictory arguments. The harassment is being faked, or itâs not being faked but itâs being exaggerated, or itâs not being exaggerated but the target is provoking it to get attention, which means GamerGate harassers simultaneously donât exist, exist in small numbers, and exist in such large numbers someone can build a career out of relying on them! It can be kind of fun to take all these arguments made in isolation and try to string together an actual position. Like, GamerGate would argue that Nathan Grayson having previously mentioned Zoe Quinn in an article about a canceled reality show counts as positive coverage, and since Grayson reached out to Quinn for comment itâs reasonable to assume they started dating before the article was published (which is earlier than they claim), and positive coverage did lead to greater popularity for Depression Quest. But if you untangle that, itâs like⌠okay, youâre saying Zoe Quinn slept with a journalist in exchange for four nonconsecutive sentences that said no more than âZoe Quinn exists and made a game,â and the price of those four sentences was to date the journalist for months, all to get rich off a game that didnât cost any money. Thatâs your movement?
And some, if cornered, would say, âyes, we believe women are just that shitty, that one would fuck a guy for months if it made them the tiniest bit more famous.â But they wonât lead with that. Because they know it wonât convince the normies, even the ones who want to be convinced. So they use a process I call The Ship of Theseus to, piece by piece, turn that sentence into âslept with a journalist in exchange for a good reviewâ and argue that each part of the sentence is technically accurate. Itâs trying to lie without lying. And, provided all the pieces of this sentence are discussed separately, and only in the context of how they justify this sentence, you can trick yourself into believing this sentence is mostly true.
So, like, why? This is clearly motivated reasoning; whatâs the motivation? What was this going to accomplish?
The answer is nothing. Nothing, by design. GamerGateâs âofficialâ channels - the subreddit and the handful of forums that didnât shut them down - were rigidly opposed to any action more organized than an email campaign. They had a tiny handful of tangible demands - they wanted gaming websites to post public ethics policies and had a list of people they wanted fired - but their larger aim was the sea change in how games journalism operated, which nothing they were asking for could possibly give them. The kind of anger that convinces you this is a true statement is not going to be addressed by a few paragraphs about ethics and Leigh Alexander getting a new job. They wanted gaming sites to stop catering to women and âSJWsâ - who were a sizable and growing source of traffic - and to get out of the pockets of companies that advertised on their websites - which was their primary source of income. So all Kotaku had to do to make them happy was solve capitalism!
Meanwhile, the unofficial channels, like 8chan and Baphomet, were planning op after op to get private information, spread lies with fake accounts, get disinformation trending, make people quit jobs, cancel gigs, and flee their homes. Concrete goals with clear results. All you had to do to feel productive was go rogue. In my video,
How to Radicalize a Normie, I describe how the Alt-Right encourages lone wolf behavior by whipping people up into a rage and then refusing to give them anything to do, while surrounding them with examples of people taking matters into their own hands. The same mechanism is in play here: the public-facing channels donât condone harassment but also refuse to fight it, the private channels commit it under cover of anonymity, and there is a free flow of traffic between them for when the official channelsâ impotence becomes unbearable.
What I hope Iâm illustrating is how these techniques play off of each other, how they create a closed ecosystem that rational thought cannot enter. Thereâs a phrase we use on the internet that got thrown around a lot at the time:
you canât logic someone out of a position they didnât logic themselves into.
Now, there are a few other big topics I think are relevant here, so I want to go through them one by one.
MEMEIFICATION
So a lot of interactions with GamerGate would involve a very insular knowledge base.
Like, youâd say something benign but progressive on Twitter.
A gater would show up in your mentions and say something aggressive and false.
Youâd correct them. But then theyâd come back and hit you with -
ah shit, sorry, this is a Loss meme.
If I were in front of a classroom Iâd ask, show of hands, how many of you got that? I had to ask Twitter recently, does Gen Z know about Loss?!
If you donât know what Loss is Iâm not sure I can explain it to you. Itâs this old, bad webcomic that was parodied so, so, so many times
that it was reduced to its barest essentials, to the point where any four panels with shapes in this arrangement is a Loss meme. For those of you in the know, you will recognize this anywhere, but have you ever tried to explain to someone who wasnât in the know why this is really fuckinâ funny?
So, now⌠by the same process that this is a comics joke,
this is a rape joke.
Iâm not gonna show the original image, but, once upon a time, someone made an animated GIF of the character Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z graphically raping Vegeta. 4chan loved it so much that it got posted daily, became known as the âdaily dose,â until mods started deleting every incident of it. So they uploaded slightly edited version of it. Then they started uploading other images that had been edited with Piccoloâs color scheme. It got so abstracted that eventually any collection of purple and green pixels would be recognized as Piccolo Dick.
Apropos of nothing, GamerGate is a movement that insists it is not sexist in nature and it does not condone threats of rape against the women they donât like. And this is their logo. This is their mascot.
If youâre familiar with the Daily Dose, the idea that GamerGate would never support Eron Gjoni if they believed he was a sexual abuser is so blatantly insincere itâs insulting⌠but imagine trying to explain to someone whoâs not on 4chan how this sweater is a rape joke. Imagine having to explain it to a journalist. Imagine having to explain it to the judge enforcing your abuserâs restraining order.
Reactionaries use meme culture not just because theyâre terminally online but also because it makes their behavior seem either benign or just confusing to outsiders. They find it hilarious that they can be really explicit and still fly under the radar. The Alt-Right did this with Pepe the Frog, the OK sign, even the milk glass emoji for a hot minute. The more inexplicable the meme, the better. You get the point where Stephen Miller is flashing Nazi signs from the White House and the Presidential re-eletion campaign is releasing 88 ads of exactly 14 words and thereâs still a debate about whether the administration is racist. Because journalists arenât going to get their heads around that. You tell them â1488 is a Nazi number,â itâs gonna seem a lot more plausible that youâre making shit up.
MOVE FAST AND BREAK THINGS
Online movements like GamerGate move at a speed and mutation rate too high for the mainstream world to keep up. And not just that they donât understand the memes - they donât understand the infrastructure.
In an attempt to cover GamerGate evenhandedly, George Wiedman of Super Bunnyhop interviewed a lawyer who specializes in journalistic ethics. He meant well; I really wish he hadnât. You can see him trying to fit something like GamerGate into terms this silver-haired man who works in copyright law can understand. At one point he asks if itâs okay to fund the creative project of a potential journalistic source, to which the guy understandably says âno.â
What heâs alluding to here is the harassment of Jenn Frank. A few weeks into GamerGate, Jenn Frank writes a piece in The Guardian about sexism in tech that mentions Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn. In another case of âhereâs a strongly-held belief I just decided I have,â GamerGate says this is a breach of journalistic ethics because Frank backs Quinn on Patreon. They harass her so intensely she not only has to quit her job at The Guardian, for several months she quits journalism entirely.
Off the bat, calling a public figure central to a major event in the field a âjournalistic sourceâ is flatly wrong-headed. Quinn was not interviewed or even contacted for the article, they were in no way a âsourceâ; they were a subject. But I want to talk about this phrase, âfund a creative project.â Patreon is functionally a subscription; itâs a way of buying things. Itâs technically accurate that Frank is funding Quinnâs creative project, but only in the sense that you are funding Bob Dylanâs creative project if you listen to his music. And saying Frank therefore canât write about Quinn is like saying a music journalist canât cover a Bob Dylan concert if theyâve ever bought his albums.
And we could talk about the ways that Patreon, as compared with other funding models, can create a greater sense of intimacy, and we also could comment that, well, thatâs how an increasing number of people consume media now, so that perspective should be present in journalism. But maybe it means we should cover that perspective differently? I donât know. Itâs an interesting subject. But none of thatâs going on in this conversation because this guy doesnât know what Patreon is. It was only a year old at this point. Patreonâs been a primary source of my income for 5 years and my parents still donât know what it is. (I think they think Iâm a freelancer?) This guy hears âfunding a creative projectâ and heâs thinking an investor, someone who makes a profit off the sourceâs success.
The language of straight society hasnât caught up with whatâs happening, and that works in GamerGateâs favor.
In the years since GamerGate we have dozens of stories of people trying to explain Twitter harassment to a legal system thatâs never heard of Twitter. People trying to explain death threats to cops whose only relationship to the internet is checking email, confusedly asking, âWhy donât you just not go online?â Like, yeah, release your text game about depression at GameStop for the PS3 and get it reviewed in the Boston Globe, problem solved.
You see this in the slowness of mainstream journalists to condemn the harassment - hell, even games journalists at first. Because what if it is a legitimate movement? What if the harassers are just a fringe element? What if there was misconduct? The people in a position to stop GamerGate donât have to be convinced of their legitimacy, they just have to hesitate. They just have to be unsure. Remember how much happened in just the first two weeks, how it took only a month to become unkillable.
Itâs the same hesitance that makes mainstream media, online platforms, and law enforcement underestimate The Alt-Right. Theyâre terrified of condemning a group as white nationalist terrorists because theyâre confused, and what if theyâre wrong? Or, in most cases, not even afraid theyâre wrong, but afraid of the PR disaster if too much of the world thinks theyâre wrong.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND CONTROL
A thing Iâve talked about in The Alt-Right Playbook is how these decentralized, ostensibly leaderless movements insulate themselves from responsibility. Harassment is never the movementâs fault because they never told anyone to harass and you canât prove the harassers are legitimate members of the movement. The Alt-Right does this too - one of their catchphrases is âI disavow.â Since there are no formalized rules for membership, they can redraw boundaries on the fly; they can take credit for any successes and deny responsibility for any wrongdoing. Public membership is granted or revoked based on a personâs moment-to-moment utility.
Itâs almost like⌠theyâre cherry-picking.
The flipside of this is a lack of control. Since they never officially tell anyone to do anything but write emails, they have no means of stopping anyone from behaving counterproductively. The harassment of Jenn Frank was the first time GamerGateâs originators thought, âmaybe we should ease off just to avoid bad publicity,â and they found they couldnât. GamerGate had gotten too big, and too many people were clearly there for precisely this reason.
They also couldnât control the infighting. When your goal is to harass women and you have all these contradictory justifications for why, you end up with a lot of competing beliefs. And, you know what? Angry white men who like harassing people donât form healthy relationships! Several prominent members of GamerGate - including Internet Aristocrat - got driven out by factionalism; they were doxxed by their own people! Jordan Owen and Davis Aurini parted ways hating each other, with Aurini releasing chatlogs of him gaslighting Owen about accepting an endorsement from Roosh, and they released two competing edits of The Sarkeesian Effect.
I say this because itâs useful to know that these are alliances of convenience. If you know where the sore spots are, you can apply pressure to them.
LEADERS WITHOUT LEADERSHIP
One way movements like GamerGate deflect responsibility is by declaring, âWe are a leaderless movement! We have no means to stop harassment.â
Which⌠any anarchist will tell you collective action is entirely possible without leaders. But theyâll also tell you, absent a system of distributing power equitably, youâre gonna have leaders, just not ones you elected.
A few months into GamerGate, Randi Lee Harper created the ggautoblocker. Hereâs what it did: it took five prominent GamerGate figures - Adam Baldwin, Mike Cernovich, Christina Hoff Sommers, Milo Yiannopoulos, and Nick Monroe, formerly known as [sigh] PressFartToContinue - and generated a block list of everyone who followed at least two of them on Twitter. Now, this became something of an arms race; once GamerGate found out about it they made secondary accounts that followed different people, and more and more prominent figures appeared and had to get added to the list. But, when it first launched, the list generated from just these five people comprised an estimated 90-95% of GamerGate.
Hate to break it to you, guys, but if 90+ percent of your movement is following at least two of the same five people, those are your leaders. The attention economy has produced them. Power pools when left on its own.
This is another case where you have to ignore what people claim and look at what they do. The Alt-Right loves to say âwe disavow Richard Spencerâ and âAndrew Anglin doesnât speak for us.â
But no matter what they say, pay attention to whom theyâre taking cues from.
AD CAMPAIGN
George Lakoff has observed that one way the Left fails in opposition to the Right is that most liberal politicians and campaigners have degrees in things like law and political science, where conservative campaigners more often have degrees in advertising and communications. Liberals and leftists may have a better product to sell, but conservatives know how to sell products.
GamerGate less resembles a boots-on-the-ground political movement than an ad campaign. First they decide what their messaging strategy is going to be. Then the media arm starts publicizing it. They seek out celebrity endorsements. They get their own hashtag and mascot. They donate to charity and literally call it âpublic relations.â You can even see the move from The Quinnspiracy to GamerGate as a rebranding effort - when one name got too closely associated with harassment, they started insisting GamerGate was an entirely separate movement from The Quinnspiracy. I learned that trick from Stringer Bellâs economics class.
Now, we could stand to learn a thing or two from this. But I also wouldnât want us to adopt this strategy whole hog; you should view moves like these as red flags. If youâre hesitating to condemn a movement because what if itâs legitimate, take a look at whether theyâre selling ideology like itâs Pepsi.
PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING
One reason to insist youâre a consumer revolt rather than a harassment campaign is most people who want to harass need someone to give them permission, and need someone to tell them itâs normal.
Bob Altemeyer has this survey he uses to study authoritarianism. He divides respondents into people with low, average, and high authoritarian sentiments, and then tells them what the survey has measured and asks, âwhat score do you think is best to have: low, average, or high?â
People with low authoritarian sentiments say itâs best to be low. People with average authoritarian sentiments also say itâs best to be low. But people with high authoritarian sentiments? They say itâs best to be average. Altemeyer finds, across all his research, that reactionaries want to aggress, but only if it is socially acceptable. They want to know they are the in-group and be told who the out-group is. They donât particularly care who the out-group is, Altemeyer finds theyâll aggress against any group an authority figure points to, even, if they donât notice it, a group that contains them. They just have to believe the in-group is the norm.
This is why they have to believe games journalism is corrupt because of a handful of feminist media critics with outsized influence. Legitimate failures of journalism cannot be systemic problems rooted in how digital media is funded and consumed; there cannot be a legitimate market for social justice-y media. It has to be manipulation by the few. Because, if these things are common, then, even if you donât like them, theyre normal. Theyâre part of the in-group. Reactionary politics is rebellion against things they dislike getting normalized, because they know, if they are normalized, they will have to accept them. Because the thing they care about most is being normal.
This is why the echo chamber, this is why Fox News, this is why the Far Right insists they are the âsilent majority.â This is why they artificially inflate their numbers. This is why they insist facts are âbiased.â They have to maintain the image that what are, in material terms, fringe beliefs are, in fact, held by the majority. This is why getting mocked by Stephen Colbert was such a blow to GamerGate. It makes it harder to believe the world at large agrees with them.
This is why, if youâre trying to change the world for the better, itâs pointless to ask their permission. Because, if you change the world around them, they will adapt even faster than you will.
THE ARGUMENT ISNâT SUPPOSED TO END
Casey Explosion has this really great Twitter thread comparing the Alt-Right to Scary Terry from Rick and Morty. His catchphrase is âyou can run but you canât hide, bitch.â And Rick and Morty finally escape him by hiding. And Mortyâs all, âbut he said we canât hide,â and Rick is like, âwhy are we taking his word on this? if we could hide, he certainly wouldnât tell us.â
The reason to argue with a GamerGater is on the implied agreement that, if you can convince them theyâre part of a hate mob, they will leave. But look at the incentives here: they want to be in GamerGate, and you want them not to be. But theyâre already in GamerGate. Theyâre not waiting on the outcome of this argument to participate. Theyâve already got what they want; they donât need to convince you GamerGate isnât a hate mob.
This is why all their logic and rationalizations are shit, because they donât need to be good. Theyâre not trying to win an argument. Theyâre trying to keep the argument going.
This has been a precept of conservative political strategy for decades. âYou havenât convinced us climate change is real and man-made, you need to do more studies.â Theyâre not pausing the use of fossil fuels until the results come in. âYou havenât convinced us there are no WMDs in Iraq, you need to collect more evidence.â Theyâre not suspending the war until you get back to them. âYou havenât convinced us that Reaganomic tax policy causes recessions, letâs just do it for another forty years and see what happens.â And when the proof comes in, they send us out for more, and we keep going.
The biggest indicator you canât win a debate with a reactionary is they keep telling you you can. The biggest indicator protest and deplatforming works is they keep telling you in plays into their hands. The biggest indicator that you shouldnât compromise with Republicans is they keep saying doing otherwise is stooping to their level. Theyâre not going to walk into the room and say, âHi, my one weakness is reasoned argument, letâs pick a time and place to hash this out.â
And we fall for it because weâre trying to be decent people. Because we want to believe the truth always wins. We want to bargain in good faith, and they are weaponizing our good faith against us. Always dangling the carrot that the reason theyâre like this is no oneâs given them the right argument not to be. Itâs all just a misunderstanding, and, really, itâs on us for not trying hard enough.
But they have no motivation to agree with us. Most of the people asking for debates have staked their careers on disagreeing with us. Conceding any point to the Left could cost them their livelihood.
WHY GAMES?
Letâs close with the big question: why games? And, honestly, the short answer is:
why not games?
Games culture has always presented itself as a hobby for young, white, middle class boys. Itâs always been bigger and more diverse than that, but thatâs how it was marketed, and thatâs who most felt they belonged. As gaming grows bigger, there is suddenly room for those marginal voices that have always been there to make themselves heard. And, as gaming becomes more mainstream, itâs having its first brushes with serious critical analysis.
This makes the people who have long felt gaming was theirs and theirs alone anxious and a little angry. Theyâve invested a lot of their identity in it and they donât want it to change.
And what the Far Right sees in a sizable collection of aggrieved young men is an untapped market. This is why sites like Stormfront and Breitbart flocked to them. These are not liberals they have to convert, these people are, up til now, not politically engaged. The Right can be their first entry to politics.
The world was changing. Nerd properties were exploding into popular culture in tandem with media representation diversifying. And we were living with the first Black President. Any time an out-group looks like it might join the in-group, there is a self-protective backlash from the existing in-group. This had been brewing for a while, and, honestly, if it hadnât boiled over in games, it would have boiled over somewhere else.
And, in the years since GamerGate, it has. The Far Right has tapped the comics, Star Wars, and sci-fi fandoms; they tried to get in with the furry community but failed spectacularly. Theyâre all over YouTube and, frankly, the atheist community was already in their pocket. Basically, if youâre in community with a bunch of young white guys who think they own the place, you might wanna have some talks with them sooner than later.
Anyway, if you want to know more about any of this stuff, RationalWikiâs timeline on GamerGate is pretty thorough. You can also watch my or Dan Olsonâs videos on the subject. Iâll be putting the audio of this talk on YouTube and will put as many resources as I can in the show notes. The channel, again, is Innuendo Studios.
Sorry this was such a bummer.
Thank you for your time.

can you explain what you mean by steven moffatt and mark gatiss âchangingâ the plot of s4? and like the whole johnlock thing you keep talking about
Anon...I cannot begin to emphasize how that is too much for me to explain in one sitting lmao
The specific thing I referred to, though, is that the tumblr fandom was so incredibly upset by s4 that they assigned active malice to the writers, believing that Moffat and Gatiss were so very angry that queer fans figured out the ending to their show that they changed the trajectory of the plot with an unexpected 180 of a 4th season in order to spite them specifically (I remember a particular Online take was "they're like children who broke their toys so no one else could play with them!"). I was extremely disappointed by the way s4 turned out, but even at this time 6 years ago, I thought it was ridiculous that people had enough of a massive fucking ego and victim complex to think two writers of a famous, award-winning TV show would give enough of a flying fuck about what was discussed on tumblr to change the plot of their show at all, let alone to hurt them, specifically. It was an unhealthy, terminally Online mindset that you basically weren't allowed to criticize because then you'd be "invalidating people's pain" or whatever the fuck. I lost friends and got blocked by people for not joining in on all that.
You'd have to elaborate on "the whole johnlock thing" I keep talking about, but the only thing I can think of now is that I sometimes call out how absolutely abnormal and batshit this website is about this BBC show and pairing in general--I'm not talking about the fandom with this, I'm talking about how this entire website as a whole has been obsessively seething with hatred for a BBC show and its fandom for at least a solid decade because oh noooo a bunch of teenagers were Cringe and annoying on their dashboards in 2013!!! And Cringe is a crime that can never be forgiven. It's all "cringe culture is dead!" until you say you like an Emmy-award-winning BBC show, then you get a hoard of Online adults being weird and shitty to strangers about their very normal interest. That is the shortest possible explanation I could give lol, this entire website's batshit attitude towards this show should be a fucking case study of how internet mob mentality rots people's brains.
#hey all remember 'in a heartbeat'?#that cute little gay animation that the internet fell in love with?#and tumblr obsessed over?#until the MINUTE they found out one of the artists was a johnlock artist#and that the characters were LOOSELY inspired by johnlock#then tumblr instantly dropped it and never talked about it again#because god forbid they be associated with Cringe!!!#that incident by itself exemplifies how stupid tumblr is about that damn show and pairing lol#yeah the fandom itself overreacted badly after s4#that doesn't beat this collective website obsessively hating it for over 10 years#that is not normal!!!#it's literally just a Sherlock Holmes adaptation#replies#Anonymous

About Gonhills
I discovered a really awesome artist who goes by the name of Gonhills. (The name derives from Yongsan, one of the smaller towns in Seoul. Short for dragon Hills.) He is part of FOREIGN LANDS together with other Asian American artists (Suah, JAWNZ, Midas Klay, 2lanes). Last month they held first liveshow together in NYC. I got to know this 31-y/o talented man, thanks to Clubby Yoo, who is also part of the label.
Fun fact: besides music, Gonhills loves to fish, play golf and cook.
If you keep up with the khiphop side of my blog, then you'll know that Flowsik is my favourite rapper. While talking to Gonhills, I was very excited to learn about their friendship. For me, Flowsik is an artist who I look up to, and who motivates me to become a better version of myself. For Gonhills, Flowsik is not just his friend but also his mentor.
This is story: when he was in high school, he took a casual interest in music. He lived in Seoul back then. After meeting Flowsik in Korea, music became a serious thing. I asked him about their meeting: "Think i met flowsik back in 2014-2015ish a year before smtm season 5 started. Tru a mutual friend who's also a rapper from back in the days called "Rousseau"". I think most of us are happy that these two amazing men met each other. I mean, Gonhills is more than "just a rapper", he is also a producer, songwriter and lyricist. Before I forget, Gonhills told me that he was there at the LA auditions, but wasn't ready so he didn't audition.
I got super excited finding out that the very reason I got obsessed with Flowsik, the music video/ song 'Wet' featuring Jessi, he took a part writing in this song. Even though he "helped them with toplines and lyrics here n there" I think he's fucking awesome. He took part in writing other songs too, try to find them yourselves ;)
About his music
From his website: âMission Statement: Make uplifting music for Asian American communities and abridge the cultural gaps that exist among different cultures.â
When I asked him about his goals/ dreams, he told me about one of them: â-becoming an artist that other artists want to work withâ.
Since Gonhills is a small artist, so finding info takes some more time. The reason why he joined or was invited to the be part of FOREIGN LANDS is because everyone there shares a smiliair goal: bringing Asian Americans together through music.
Back to his music, he raps in a mix of Korean and English. About his own album 'Departure | ěśęľ': This album is a collection of my experiences living as a foreigner in the U.S. for the past 15 years and redefining my Korean roots. With my formative years in the U.S, my own perception of racial and ethnic identity would often see-saw between pride and resentment. âDepartureâ features contemplations on my own identity that often felt too heavy, abstract, and subtle to describe. These themes are wholeheartedly expressed through various genres such as Lo-fi, Reggae, Dupstep and Trap. My hope is that others can relate to my reflections and continue the conversation.
As I don't know Korean and there's no translation to be found, I asked him myself if he could give an indepth description of 3 songs.
Coreanos
 This is a track about me coming to U.S as an immigrant and how I got synchronized to the U.S culture/standards. From the way I talk to dress, there are certain standards that are placed onto foreigners and I wanted to explore that emotion in this song. I also took a part in beatmaking for this track!
Subway
While I was in Korea doing music, I used to ride subways to get to places. A subway ride is a perfect metaphor to describe life in Korea. While these safe vessels/vehicles move us from one place to another, we are expected to stay quiet, wait in line and follow a bunch of crowd to exit out of a hell hole. I thought itâd be fun to make a song out of it :)Â
Jjam
 So from year 2013-2015, I served in the Korean Army to fulfill my mandatory duty as a Korean citizen. My role was a tank driver and I drove the K-227 Armor Vehicle for 2 years. I met many Korean friends during this time and I wanted to make a song about them.
Final words
I feel incredibly honored getting to know Gonhills. He is a man with a big heart and ambitious mind. I wish him all the success in the world and I can't wait to see him perform live someday. I would like to add that writing this blog wasn't possible without the man himself, so I am grateful that he could make time for me in his busy schedule :)
The more time I spend on this blog, the more of a fan I became :D
I hope I was able to spark your interest, thank you for reading & please check out his music!
-Anna

hereâs the story of what my username means, once again:
when i was 12 years old, that was in 2007, i created a username for chatroom. this username was simpuramafampark. in case you canât tell, this word is combination of my four favourite cartoons at the time:
the simpsons, futurama, family guy and south park
i was so proud of how clever this username is (it is very clever) that i used it everywhere for four years. so 12 to 16 i was simpuramafampark on so many websites. i wanna note that since all this, i have grown out of loving family guy and south park. anybody who knows me wonât find that surprising. i still adore the fuck outta simpsons and futurama, still my faves. anyways
i was 16 when i joined tumblr and i tried to use this name but during late 2010, this was a time when tumblr usernames had a shorter character limit. simpuramafampark was too big for tumblr at the time. im not sure but i think it would fit now. so i went with other things. from 2011 to 2013 i went thru things like âsimpuramaâ or âsimpuâ or âsimpusimpuâ(awful) and then some different things like âdonotpokelionsâ or âtwinkletwinkyoulittlestarâ (proud of that one)
i eventually sometime in 2013 landed on simptasia. it was important to me that my username contain simp because after so many years of having usernames like this, my nickname on many websites had become simp (which now hasnât aged well, thanks guys /s). and also simpsons is still my fave cartoon
in season 4 of the simpsons, there is a commentrary where matt groening talks about his dream of making a simpsons version of fantasia, known as simptasia. so on a whim i decided to use that. i liked the sound of that. since then iâve used simptasia on every website iâve joined. and since becoming a lost fan in 2013 and making so many lost memes, simptasia has sort of become my brand
simptasia inbetween 2013 and now has become kind of my second name. my tumblr name. iâd feel weird changing it now. so thats the very niche and odd connections brain of mine explanation of why my url is simptasia
itâs a fucking simpsons commentary reference
#me#i'll explained this many times but this is the best version of the story i've told#also i was superwholocking my fandoms 5 years before it became a thing#i also find it amusing how i don't even like the movie fantasia. like im indifferent to it. and yet its a key part of my username#i was simpwhovian90 on livejournal because i wanted to change things up and also i was lying about my age at the time jhfsakjhs#fun fact: listening to cartoon commentaries has been a hobby of mine since i was 10#so i first would have heard this dream of matts when i was a kid and it just stuck with me#if you look up simptasia you'll find me and matt groenings long time odd ambition#so anyways if theres one thing i can say about my url it's for sure unique. it's defo something specific to my brain and my life

Another (different) anon here. Yea, that rude-ass anon that somebody sent was completely uncalled for. Unless they have proof that you're a horrible human being (which you're not), they need to knock it off. I swear, people literally telling others to die or using other aggressive terms is not fucking cool, I don't care who upsets who or who starts drama with who.
Death threats via anon have always fascinated me. Usually because they're extremely unwarranted and give no explanation as to why the sender is upset?? It's wild lol, I've only received it probably less than 5 times ever since joining this website back in 2013. I'm an old ass woman I'm not going to take it to heart. Though I must thank all those who've said kind things in the wake of it. It really is appreciated.

Dark Cybertron Chapter 8: Swoop is a Good Ally
Bumblebee doesnât turn into a convertible, but that wonât stop Megatron from riding around with his legs hair in the wind, as the two of them book it for Iacon from the Crystal City. Bumblebeeâs making great time, despite carrying a dude who is significantly larger than he is. As the burning city comes into view, they discuss the fact that the Titan thatâs making its way downtown (walking fast, and itâs homebound) is full of Shockwave ores. The life and death ones, to be exact. This is a problem, because that means itâs neither alive or dead, and you canât kill something that ainât alive.⨠Then Megatron goes on about how Cybertron needs him, and has always needed him, to end oppression.
Mighty high opinion of yourself you got there, Megatron. Weâll see how that plays out as the day goes on.
Over with Starscream, our fearless leaderâs reflecting on how true the term ârat bastardâ fits dear Rattrap. Rattrapâs more concerned about the fact that people are literally dying right now while Starscream has a pity party. Good thing Rattrap brought some party guests.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0594d6c7712eb39fe04e137a90a6315d/9dabc7411b884aca-ef/s540x810/68b3753e47b5c13b9d33326349000a7cbd7da4db.jpg)
Starscream double-checks that all these friendly faces arenât with the Titan, then gets called incompetent by just about everyone. Prowl puts together a strategy for this nightmare scenario, staring directly into the camera and showing off his lovingly rendered nose as he starts giving orders. While everyone else is going to be either rounding up the injured or trying to pick a fight with a dude roughly 50 times their size, Prowlâs going to try to figure out how to stop the Titan.
Back inside Metroplex, things are looking tense, as Nautica and Chromia are about a hairâs breadth away from beating the Rod Pod Squad to death. In an effort to dispel the hostility, Getaway points at his bellybutton, and then sat Nauticaâs, quoting Optimus Prime and saying that thereâs no reason to fight, because a bunch of little murderous bastards are about to pour in and cause some trouble for everyone.
And then a bunch of little murderous bastards are about to pour in and cause some trouble for everyone.
Everyone starts climbing up the rope Nautica and Chromia dropped last issue, except for Whirl, who would prefer to spend his time kicking ass as opposed to hunting for Metroplexâs brain. As the gang crawls around in the vents- because of COURSE they do- Nautica realizes that sheâs talking to none other than Ratchet, and has a bit of a moment. Ratchetâs more concerned with the concept of gender being introduced into his world.
Youâre right, Ratchet, it doesnât matter. Just let people live, dude.
Everyone ends up in the left shoulder blade area of Metroplex, where his brain is, and where we meet Windblade- our fan-created character, and a huge part of why IDW had to jam the concept of sexual dimorphism into their continuity posthaste. ⨠In 2013, the Fan Built Bot polls were held on the Hasbro website, where fans could vote on several traits of a new character. One of these traits was gender.â¨
Which Iâm sure Furman was thrilled about.
The majority rule was for a female Transformer to be created, one hailing from Kaon, who was an Autobot telepath who turned into a jet and had a sword. Not all of this information was kept, simply because it didnât jive with what had been established about gender previously. Things were still very messy, so Windbladeâs place of origin was changed.
But weâll get to that later on.
Right now, all you need to know is that Windblade is here to keep Metroplex alive.
Over in the Dead Universe, Nightbeat leads Team -Imus to Kup, the lot of them blasting and gunning down zombie robots the whole way. Cyclonus still has the Hollywood Tuberculosis cough. When they reach Kup, Orion Pax calls him old. Cyclonus has a gun now. Rodimus explains why heâs got numbers carved into his palm.
After the nightmare that was Overlord happened, and then the Luna 1 stuff, Rodimus enacted the Crisis Act. Now, the last time we saw the Crisis Act was in Eugenesis. Itâs been a minute, so hereâs a refresher:
In this case, Rodimus enacted the Act on himself, having the crew of the Lost Light vote on whether he should remain captain. 89 voted for him to get the boot. This weighs heavily on his mind, so much so that heâs decided to carve the vote into his hand, so he can never forget those he failed.
Off in the corner, Cyclonus is dying, but this isnât about him, this is about Rodimusâ sense of guilt.
Orion isnât thrilled with how Rodimus handled the situation- he claims that Rodimus would have simply stepped down from his captaincy outright, if he really felt that badly about the situation.
Off in the corner, Cyclonus is still dying, but this isnât about him.
Not my space dad.
Nightbeat scoops Kup off of his bed and helps the old man stand, not that he needs it. No sir, this crotchety old bastard is so full of piss and vinegar, heâs gotta have the entire Industrial Revolution backdropping his big badass speech.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2edf5c0bf8d9c38fac4ca431f27c581f/9dabc7411b884aca-42/s540x810/4e762b3ec8fe89e7e58d39465ca75cdc8bb10049.jpg)
And then that final claim is tested, as Cyclonusâ limp body is fastball-specialed into Kupâs torso. Nova Primeâs here, and heâs pissed. Orion decides heâs gonna square the fuck up. Itâs time for Prime Prime-Time Fight Time.
Back inside Metroplex, violence is taking place, as Whirl, Getaway, and Skids are eviscerating the Ammonites. Over with Metroplexâs brain, Windblade is explaining her whole deal.
Chromia, donât be fucking rude.
Windblade is a City Speaker, a robot who can interpret the the lights and wave patterns of a Titanâs brain module for the purpose of communication. Itâs a pretty sweet trick. Brainstorm doesnât care about that though- heâs more concerned with getting the hell out of here. Ultra Magnus agrees, though heâs more concerned about the current state of Cybertron and the fact that Shockwaveâs still running around. Windblade tells them to do whatever, but sheâs gonna stick with Metroplex. Itâs at this point that we find out how our new friends got here in the first place.
Turns out Thunderclashâs ship was taking new crew members on, and these three lovely robots were a part of the new blood. The Vis Vitalis ran into Alpha Trion not too long after they joined, freaking the hell out because Metroplex- his best friend in the whole entire world, as established in Spotlight: Orion Pax- just vanished.
Not sure how you lose an entire city that youâre riding around inside, but whatever, Alpha.
Alpha Trion was worried about his friend, but not enough to stop looking for the Holy Grail. So he had Chromia, Windblade, and Nautica come out here to do it. Unfortunately, they havenât been able to do much. This might be why Metroplex pulled the Lost Light over to this rinky-dink little water planet- so he wouldnât die.
Do you think Roberts and Barber were aware that they were having a bunch of male characters walk all over the hard work of these female characters, by way of making them better at the thing they were sent here to do? Do you think they thought about that? Because thatâs pretty much whatâs happening here. Theyâve been here all of ten minutes, and Nautica- who is a quantum mechanic and engineer, as will be established- has been outdone by a bunch of doofuses whoâve only got the benefit of being properly established characters helping them out.
With a little set up, Metroplexâs brain is plugged into the Lost Lightâs engines remotely, and Ultra Magnus tells our boy to rise and shine.
Back on Cybertron, Fixit and Flatline are about to throw down, which Starscream thinks is hilarious. Thereâs a whole medical slab that contains only a single shin. People are laying in trailers, but I guess that lone shin has priority for whatever reason. Outside, Scoop is being a good lad and helping get the injured to safety. Rattrap is also there.
The Titan has hit the city limits, and everyoneâs shooting at the thing to cope. The Dinobots are upset because theyâre being ignored, but at least Swoop is proving to be a good friend, as heâs already acclimated to Slugâs name change. Good on you, Swoop.
The plan of attack here is shooting the Titan in the neck until the signals to the brain are cut off from the rest of the body. Itâs not really working out so hot, but smart boy points for trying, Prowl.
A building explodes, because we havenât had an explosion yet this issue. Prowl, whose little red chevron seems to be shrinking by the panel, asks Soundwave for his opinion on the current situation. Soundwave goes âI dunnoâ and then Megatron shows up.
Frigginâ drama queen.
Prowl, whoâs had about enough of everyone at this point, breaks out a gun and tells Megs to start talking before things get uglier than they already are.
Megatron has a plan. Are you ready to hear it?
He wants everyone to:
Load up on ships
Fuck off into space
Come back later when the DJD show up
Bumblebee does not like this plan. He dislikes it very much, in fact, and throws Megatronâs legs on the ground in protest. Megatron pouts about being called a meanie warlord shit-for-brains.
Bumblebee rattles off a very inspiring speech about the perseverance of the Cybertronian spirit, and how you should never give up, and oh would you look at that Metroplex just showed up with the Lost Light.
Time for some Rock âEm Sock âEm Robots. Hell yeah.

Halloween was a week away. Tony being Tony, already paid for the decorations for the tower, so basically all of the floors look like a haunted house. Rolls of toilet paper stretched across arches in the hallways, tiny spiders were all over furniture, bones and eyes and zombies and witches and everything in between that you could possibly think of was in the tower. The tower looked like a zombie on steroids; creepy yet entertaining at the same time. Â
Everyone was fine with the decorations, but the costumes were a big issue. Steve and Tony kept arguing over the ideas, both of them wanting to do group costumes. Everyone else had their ideas too, but Tony and Steve were at each other's throats for the past couple weeks, since like August. Your room in the tower was right by the meeting office, so hearing the two of them screaming at each other for the most stupid shit was driving you insane. Once it got to the point where you had to yell at them to shut up. Â
This morning, a week before Halloween, while everyone was there, you cleared your throat while you heard Steve and Tony bickering.
âGuys this is getting to be too much. We need to have a meeting to discuss these fucken costumes.â you said.
âYeah this is getting out of control,â Nat agreed.
âGuys, cmon, you have to agree with me. All of us having Iron Man suits would be awesome. We could fly around the city all night and have so much fun!â Tony said.
âTony, stop. All of us being soldiers is better.â Steve countered.
âSTOP!â Clint groaned. âYou guys are insane. We need to discuss this as a group.â
Tony and Steve sat across from each other, glaring at each other. Death was looming between them. Â
âFine,â Tony sighed. âWhen and where?â
âThe office, 2pm,â Nat said. âAnd everyone has to show up, that means you too Bucky.â
Bucky groaned from the other side of the room. He hated group discussions, he liked working alone better. Said that it was faster to be alone and you didnât have to worry as much.
~~~
2pm finally rolled by. Everyone has showed up in the big office, one that seemed a little too big. Everyone was tired of the bickering and had showed up, thankfully. Â
Tony, Steve, Natasha, Clint, Thor, Bucky, Sam, Peter P, Shuri, Wanda, Vision, Loki and you were crowded around the table. Tony was standing at the end with a whiteboard, prepared to write down ideas.
âSo guys, what do you want to do?â Tony said.
âWhat about we dress up as famous Star Wars characters?â Sam suggested.
âNah, Steve isnât going to know who Yoda is. Thatâs a must if we do Star Wars.â Tony said.
âDevils and Angels?â Wanda said.
âNot original,â Steve said.
âWhat about we just wear each otherâs costumes?â Thor suggested.
âYou really think you are gonna wear my wings?â Sam said, a hint of annoyance in his voice that made you and Bucky snicker.
âI donât think any of you guys want to wear a leather catsuit,â Nat said.
âWe could dress up as famous vines,â Shuri offered, smirking at you and Peter. Â
The three of you quoted vines daily and the rest of the team never knew what you guys meant, which made it even more fun. Eventually, Sam, Bucky and Clint started learning vines with you because they kept saying things which you guys followed up with vine references. The frustration got to the three men and they started to learn with you, but they werenât nearly as attentive as you, Shuri and Peter.
âWhatâs a vine?â Steve asked.
âVine was a website created in 2012, officially released in 2013. It was ultimately shut down in 2016. Vine was a website where users would create short videos an-â Vision said.
âVis, I donât think they want a whole essay,â Wanda said, seeing the reactions of the other Avengers. Sam had started to fake snore, Loki was muttering something to Peter about knifes, and Shuri was about to watch vines, from what you could tell. Â
âItâs this app filled with people saying and doing stupid things for attention,â Nat sighed.
âIT IS NOT STUPID! VINE WAS LEGENDARY!!â Shuri shouted.
âYOU WOULD DO THINGS FOR THE VINE, YOU UNCULTURED SWINE!!â you shrieked.
âEDUCATE YO SELF!â Clint shouted, right in Natashaâs ear. Doing that earned him a hard punch in the back of the head.
âWell I donât have all day so we need something,â Tony groaned, hitting his expo marker against the whiteboard.
You and everyone else was trying to come up with ideas when all the sudden, quiet Peter Parker, who was pretty much the baby of the tower, spoke up.
âMr. Frost Giant, God sir?â Peter asked.
âLoki,â Loki sighed, pleasantly shocked.
âSo, you have ice powers right?â Peter continued.
âYes, I am an ice giant,â Loki said.
âYou should be Elsa for Halloween,â Peter gasped.
Then, out of nowhere, Clint jumped up, looking like he had 5 monster energy drinks and 10 packs of warheads.
âIâLL BE MERIDA!!!â he screamed.
âI must assume that I am going to portray Elsa then,â Thor said, with a smile on his face.
âSo...we are doing Disney princesses?â Tony asked, slightly confused.
âLooks like it,â Bucky said.
âWho the fuck am I gonna be?â Shuri asked.
âLanguage.â Steve said.
You and Shuri looked at each other for a moment and with a slight nod of your head, you were both in a song.
âFUCK SHIT PUSSY ASS!!!â you and Shuri sang.
âMOTHERFUC-â Peter started to continue, but Tony just slapped his hand over Peterâs mouth. Tony swore that Peter wasnât like a son to him, but this didnât help his situation.
Steve was turning ad red as a tomato in his seat, not being able to process all the dirty words that escaped yours and Shuriâs mouths.
âOk, who are all the Disney Princesses?â Tony asked, frustration in his voice as he looked down at Peter. Tony gave him a look, one that said âStop this shit or you get your suit taken away for two weeksâ and once Peter nodded his head slightly, Tony removed his hand.
Vision started to list a bunch of them off, even some of the ones that arenât considered princesses, like Megara, Alice and Jane. Once Tony had a list of all the princesses, he started to write of all the avengers, making lines to match them up with their character. Â
âOk, who wants to find their Disney princess counterpart first?â Tony asked.
âMe, I already asked before,â Shuri said rolling her eyes.
âWell I mean you already are a princess.â you said.
âOh,â Shuri said. âI donât have to dress up then. Haha. You can cross my name off, Tony.â
Tony sighed and rolled his eyes, while taking her name off.
âNext?â he sighed.
âWhat about me?â Steve asked.
âOh this is gonna be interesting.â Sam grinned.
âSnow White.â Bucky said, without even hesitating.
âWait why?â you asked.
âOhhhhh, I think I see why,â Wanda smirked.
âContinue Barnes,â Natasha said.
âFirst of all, Snow White was the very first princess to come out. She came out in the thirties or forties. Sheâs the oldest. Steve was the first avenger and he is the oldest.â Bucky said.
âBucky, you are a couple months older than me.â Steve countered.
âSecond,â Bucky continued, ignoring his friend completely. âShe is like the most gullible and is surrounded by followers. Snow White was like living with seven dwarfs. And she was underage and just lived with them. Steve here, was the leader of the Howling Commandos. And I was in that group, so I had to endure him and his stupid ass decisions, but I couldnât elect to ignore it.â
âThatâs offensive,â Steve said.
âThat's the point,â Bucky said. Â
âOk so Steve is Snow White.â Tony declared, making a line between Snow White and Steve on the whiteboard. âNEXTT!â
âMe,â said the super secret Russian spy.
âHmm..â you thought.
âMegara,â said Clint.
âOh that's a good one,â Sam agreed.
âWho is Megara?â Steve asked.
âShe is an attractive Greek lady that Hercules, the son of Zeus, who is the King of the Greek Gods, falls in love with.â Thor explained.
âThor, how do you of all people know that?â Shuri asked.  âShouldnât Vision know all of these things?â
âMâlady, I am formally educated in Disney movies by the request of Peter Parker, also known as âThe One and Only Friendly Neighborhood Spidermanâ.â Thor explained.
âKid, you make Thor, the God of Thunder, sit through Sleeping Beauty?â Tony asked, shocked.
âMy dear man of Iron, Sleeping beauty was quite relaxing. That Prince Philip, that amazing man, demonstrated quite intellectually advanced ways to use a sword. Ways that I can use Storm-breaker effectively in battle.â Thor smiled.
Tony and Sam shared a look of disgust with a combination of interest and concern.
âThor, I donât think you can learn fighting tactics from a cart-â Vision started.
âI need to watch the movies again,â Clint and Bucky muttered under their breaths.
âNo she should be Mulan,â Wanda said. âMulan is determined and strong. Megara just messed with the God of Death.â
âI mess with death all the time,â Natasha countered.
âI should be Megara.â Bucky stated.
âBecause you almost died?â Steve asked.
âBecause your soul is dark and empty?â Sam asked.
âYes and no. My hair is long, not as long as herâs but I can make it work. Hair extensions. She plays with Herculesâ emotions. She is also strong and independent. Like me.â Bucky explained.
âThat settles it. Bucky is Megara and Natasha is Mulan.â Tony said, making lines between the two avengers and their princesses. Â
ânEXXttT!â Tony shouted.
âMe me me!â Wanda said happily.
âYes Mr. Stark I would like to go as well.â Vision added.
âWanda would make the perfect Moana.â Thor said. âMoana and Wanda both demonstrate very strong emotions, which affect their abilities regarding their powers and limits and they care deeply about the people that mean the most to them.â
He nudged Loki in the shoulder to try to get him more involved in the meeting. Loki was just throwing his knives up in the air, and Peter was getting very interested, and getting dangerously close to the God of Mischief. Tony was eyeing the two of them very, very carefully.
âYeah, yeah sure,â Loki sighed, just going along with Thor or the sake of it.
âWho would Vision be then?â Sam asked.
âHe could be the dead grandma,â Clint suggested.
âYeah, that one that turned into the manta ray.â Nat agreed.
âItâs settled. Moana and Dead Grandma Ray.â Tony said, making the lines once again. He had to add âdead grandmaâ to the board for Visionâs sake.
âNeXXXXXtttT!!â he shrieked.
âTony, you should be Belle,â Natasha said.
âYeah. I mean, they both fall in love and save the people that mean the most to them, even if it means putting their own life at risk.â Steve agreed.
âAnd they are both really smart.â Peter added.
âPeter, you just had to say that and I would have been on board. Now I had to listen to Steve and Natasha for a minute.â Tony groaned as he drew a line between his name and Belleâs.
âThanks Tony,â Steve said sarcastically.
âYour welcome, Capsicle.â Tony gleamed back.
âSam should be Cinderella.â Bucky said.
âOMG that works!!â Shuri exclaimed.
âYeah..â Sam realized. âIâm Cinderella âcause she broke, homie.â
âYeah,â Steve said, smiling from ear to ear, looking back at Sam.
âShe represent me, yooo,â Sam said. Then he looked over at Steve and said, âLemme borrow twenty dollas.â
By this point, Steve couldnât hold in the laughter and almost fell out of his chair. And Sam, being as he called it âSteveâs best friend, better than Bucky,â saved Steve from collapsing on to the floor.
âSteve is the cinder princess. Deal with it.â Tony declared, adding another line.
âNeeXXttTTT!â Tony screamed.
âNow, all thatâs left is Peter and Y/N,â Wanda said, eyeing you two.
âPeter should be Rapunzel. Before they face the real world, they are both innocent, but then when they see what the world is really like, it changes them.â Thor said, analyzing the similarities between the princess and the superhero.
âJesus Christ, why is Point break actually really on point?â Tony asked.
âMy dear Stalk of corn, I am educated like I told you earlier. Insect man has really helped me tap into my inner child and all of the pain my demon brother made me endure.â Thor said.
âSpiderman,â Peter mumbled.
âI take that as a complement.â Loki stated, out of the blue.
âRapunzel is Parker.â Tony declared.
âLast but not least, Y/N.â Steve said.
Now, it took everyone a while to come up with a princess for you. You didnât fit the exact mold or looks of a certain princess, so it was definitely harder.
âWhat about Alice?â Sam said/
âWhy the fuck would she be Alice?â Bucky asked.
âBecause Alice in Wonderland is supposed to portray the effects of drugs.â Sam explained.
âSo your saying that I act like a drug addict?â you asked.
âNO!â Sam shouted.
âSam, drop it before you dig your own grave.â Steve said.
âWhat about Jasmine?â offered Wanda. âYou have a very free spirit like her, and sheâs your favorite princess.â
âYeah sure, that sounds fine.â you agreed.
âY/N is Jasmine! dOOONNEe!â Tony shouted with relief.
âWAIT I CHANGED MY MIND!â Shuri shrieked. âI WANNA BE A PRINCESS. I WANNA BE TIANA SHE IS AN ABSOLUTE BADASS!â
âFINE!â Tony shouted back. âNOW WE ARE DONE. EVERYONE HAPPY?â
Everyone in the room, not wanting to disagree with a hot-headed Tony, looked around at each other and slowly nodded their heads.
âGreat!â Tony smiled, a complete change in moods. âTomorrow we are going to Party City to get our costumes. Everyone in this room has to come so we can get the wigs and dresses and makeup. No skipping out. That includes you Clint, Bucky and Loki.â
The three men who were called out rolled their heads and sighed. But they agreed to go. To Tonyâs happiness.
âGreat. Meeting finished. Pepper wants me for something. Probably for the party. Nobody try to call me or you will be met with an ear rape of AC/DC.â Tony said, putting on his glasses and promptly leaving the room in Stark fashion. Everyone eventually left the room, you being lost in your thoughts. Â
âYou coming, doll?â Bucky asked, seeing you were still sitting in the room.
âYa, Iâll be out in a second.â you said. Â
âAlright, you, me and Clint are doing a Disney marathon for fighting tactics. Donât be late or you because we are gonna eat all the food. I donât wanna hear you complain.â Bucky said, walking out the door with a lazy drag of his legs.
Now, relief filled your body. Now you wouldnât have to hear arguing about costumes! And they actually agreed to costumes, shockingly. Now you just couldnât wait to go to Party City and endure all the chaos. And then, you left the room to watch Disney movies again, for fighting tactics. Â
Oh, the chaos that awaits. Â
Story and writing-related transparency update and my many shames...
The Question on Everyoneâs Mind
âHey you havenât updated No Stars over Uptown in almost a year...â
Hmm, I hate it when youâre right. (This section has been rewritten ad-nauseam to curb back the bitchiness by the way)
So back in early/mid 2018, the idea was to divorce Uptown from a person who influenced it (and myself) heavily. She was my most important audience member, the closest friend I ever had, and unfortunately someone who used her power to bully, ostracize, and hurt others with my help. I cut contact when the hurt + some self-awareness finally reached me. Apologies were made and I feel like my work will never be done with it, but there was still Uptown.
Between censored comments, entirely recasting Axelâs save, different plot threads, and a load of disclaimers, there was nothing that would scrub her influence from the story. There was no way to cleanly drop everything because of how deep her influence went. It disgusted me to look back at it, and I had to private the blog because I feared what it endorsed, even if just in the past.
I pulled back from that sims writing community. I had its main thread on the Official Forums removed too (I guess if that was a mystery to anyone). It was a surrender that I never wanted to do, but I had it in my mind that if I was gone, then she wouldnât be there either. Uptown became this cursed item, and as I quietly retired it, I noticed that she went quieter too. Not gone, but enough to make me sleep easier at night and even occasionally say hello to old friends.
And I hope deep in my heart that no one else is getting hurt in my place, but now this is gonna haunt me all day huh!
The two paths forward...
1) Complete Uptown rewrite that Iâve been threatening everyone with all year. While it wonât ever be clean because I canât undo time, I do have a sound outline for a story that is much more true to my actual vision and how Iâve evolved, with a few necessary boundaries in place that are going to be there for all stories moving forward: no more casting calls and no more collaborative efforts. I am not going to open myself up to this happening again, even if the people have changed.
2) Same as above, but I continue the original Uptown as a favor to loyal readers alongside the rewrite. I would try to put the effort into it that I initially did, but with no promises on an update schedule and no advertising. I did ask myself âis there Patreon but without pledging money, just the private posts functionâ but it could operate as part of a private forum, a members-only part of a website, etc.
Also readers of the original would be beholden to a rule of âdonât spoil the rewrite for new readers, câmon guysâ. I mean, not really, but it is a good courtesy to extend to people.
Priority on this isnât high but you at least will see what is!
I will probably make the blog public again either way due to the many broken links on my Tumblr but weâll see. There are other things to deal with as I shall list!
Where Lifeâs Been Regardless
Been spending more time with my grandpa every weekend. Lifeâs pretty good and heâs warming up to my dogs.
Shiny New Webbed Site
Cucumber Fields Forever is a site I own now. We have a full domain, cucumberfieldsforever.com, a blog with one post, and the framework needed to host stories the way I want to and still through WordPress. The functionality of likes, comments, and following should still be the same but you know...Iâll take feedback too...
The main blog still has an undefined purpose though I do have drafts sitting around about:
The maybe/maybe not hoax band that was on the Metal Archives and the history of Funeral Doom Metal.
The curious case of when Sims 4 babies get their genetics and my only collaboration (read: was talking about it with a friend and might quote her if needed, itâs actually a bit of a doozy)
Amazon.comâs fake dried udon noodles, an actual issue by the way.
Things Iâm reading! (Thisâd be a monthly feature if so)
For the sake of unity, I am thinking of solutions for hosting old and shameful content there including Uptown and for the real fans in my followers feed, Eight Cicadas...a world I totally have plans for too (not really). I donât want them to be front-and-center, and thatâs why I mentioned forums/members-only content. I finally have that power! Maybe.
Ooooh but what are the costs? Not too much to handle, thatâs what. đ (Like really, I donât need any hand-wringing about this, I can manage my finances)
Project Queue (In Order of Confirmedness)
Outrun the Scythe:Â have you seen me post out-of-context Sims 3 pictures? Did you want more? Did you hope it was Linda in Custody? If the answers are yes, yes, and âmeh, whatever you wantâ, then youâre in luck.
Outrun the Scythe is a Sims 3-based tale of a young gay man and his zombie grandma, as they are both offered separate roles of being the undying intermediaries between the world of humans and the influence of a race of space daemons. Itâs pretty familiar if youâve been following me pre-Uptown, taking some cues from stories Iâve kept under lock and key like Eight Cicadas, The Chains of Lyra, and the not-so-locked-up Ironstar Immortals (of which Outrun is just the direct sequel to sans any retconning...ah the smell of early 2013 and performative heterosexuality)
Ah, back to my roots.
Itâs a hybrid of gameplay, story, and lore about my little race of daemons with a lot of my own idiosyncrasies that Iâm not really ashamed of: basing it off a super-polarizing Sims 3 challenge from a site I moderate, using a lot of EAâs pre-made townies and their genes, lots of unnecessary posemaking, stupid references. Itâs a comfort to have in my roster.
While the first few chapters are in the middle of revision, I have around six in the queue and will be making this public when I have ten. Iâm guessing December then?
Undocumented Black Widow Challenge: I just did this for fun/forum kudos (yes, in fact I have joined many forums), there was going to be a short story but it was quickly becoming something against my code of ethics. I mean, sims die and all. (read: I had to choose between âheterosexual widowâ and âwidow with some same-sex marriages that still end in tragedy, reinforcing negative stereotypes to the public for the sake of me not getting bored and detached during gameplayâ so there were no good choices. Except for her affair with the mailwoman, 10/10) I hope to finish this before October ends and get my medal on Boolprop, Iâm pretty far through it all. I might upload the sims involved anyways. This is for TS4.
I mentioned it because itâs keeping me busy. But not for long!
NaNoWriMo 2020:Â Dipping my toes into that again! Itâs not sims-related, just a tale of lesbians, nosy neighbors, a haunted beach house, and some light murder and kidnapping. And I actually got my brother to scout out locations for me this weekend. If thereâs any demand, I can share chapters as the rough drafts are finished, especially for the sake of proofreading.
Not saying Iâm publishable, but wouldnât it be nice? Will keep me occupied for much of November.
Untitled âDear Diaryâ Challenge: Tired of feeling left out of the fun on the Boolprop forums, their âDear Diaryâ challenge was the one that appealed to me the most on first glance. Why? Probably once I found an idea that let it be set in the early/mid-2000â˛s to begin with and explore some interesting characters through diary entries (which I have mixed feelings on as a literary device but I think thatâs just me saying âwell I didnât like Draculaâ, yes you get bonus points for writing it like a diary)
Also writing is the one skill Iâm good at across multiple games. Wanna hear me bitch about the cooking skill tree in TS4 or riding in TS3? Iâll spare you.
I guess I could have included âspending time on Boolprop with old and new friendsâ in where my life has been. Itâs a nice lil community if also a place with its own idiosyncrasies as well. So it doesnât feel like Iâm promoting another community if/when I make a thread there for Outrun the Scythe, I want to have a couple chapters of this ready to go by Outrunâs release, though itâs not gonna be the highest priority compared to it nor as long because I think I can blast through the gameplay quickly.
This one will be played in TS4 due to it having the easiest writing skill/I dunno variety is the spice of life. And hopefully another December release.
Defunded or Forgotten?: Oh shit I actually released stuff in 2020 and told no one? I do have a âmortifying ordeal of being knownâ sinking feeling whenever I get a site hit because itâs not my best work (but good enough) and veered sharply into issues I may be over my head in, though I try to be a good noodle with research and listening. Maybe hiding is bad after all.
Being based off a very flawed and incomplete Sims 3 challenge I found in the annals of the Official Forums, thereâs a lot of behind-the-scenes work just making sense of things. And Iâm scared of working on reconstructing the house but I havenât abandoned the project yet. The story has eight chapters so far and is pretty game-based with some additions here and there. Scared of how long it could be though!
Date for this unknown.
Untitled Sunlit Tides Decadynasty:Â another year-long abandoned TS3 project with a much stupider reason why. Last update was about Hua getting ready for her wedding, and I wanted to do some poses for a bait-and-switch wedding chapter because to put it mildly, her real one was an absolute disaster.
Blender decided to fuck up its interface again, I got discouraged (this probably does account for some of the Uptown delays too), and when I decided to plow forward, it was for other projects instead.
Meanwhile I played all the way to Gen 5â˛s teenhood and the only thing stopping me is time (it takes almost 30 minutes to load the file right now, though theyâll be looking at moving towns in a couple gens) and maybe fear of the Logic skill.
Date for this also unknown but itâs easy to pump out updates once Iâm in the groove for it. My third heir had a difficult life so maybe Iâm just trying to bury it.
Also I just noticed the view count there was really good and probably because I linked it here on Tumblr last year. Thank you so much guys. I canât really fret over views on Carlâs forum these days thanks to the years-long death spiral pretty much every forum anywhere has been riding on. But itâs a nice surprise. And itâs an alright little challenge recap to read during your lunch break or whatever.
The Wawas
I figured Iâd end on the real news everyone wants! Both the chihuahuas are a year and a half now and reached their adult size around a year ago. For the most part, they are happy and healthy dogs.
Hey, I know this is random but I was wondering where does your username come from? Both 'thefloatingstone' and 'C-Puff'? You don't have to answer, I just like your blog! It's the perfect mix between insightful opinions and awesome art. Oh, and PGSM.
Ah thank you so much! 8â˛D I know at times I might fuck up when it comes to opinions and such, but I do try my best! Thank you and Iâm so happy youâre enjoying your time here!
C-Puff has been my online username since I was 12 or 13 (I will need to check my old art). Back in web 2.0 (around 2001 or 2002) I was big into the Powerpuff Girls, and preteen me thought I was a genius in noticing that all their names started with âBâ. Even additional PPG characters like Bunny and Bullet. I also frequented a PPG fan-site which is where I got a lot of fanart, fanfics, and early flash videos which are probably pretty bad if you look at them now but at the time I thought were hilarious.
Anyway. When I started joining websites that required you to have a username (like Side7 and Neopets) I used âC-Puffâ as a username basically as an inside joke because I had the usual PPG self-insert character, but as I am not someone who really creates OCs either, she was like a very obvious âfakeâ or addition or Bootleg. So she was the next letter in the alphabet. And then as I was forced to join more sites as the web evolved I found that âC-Puffâ was almost never used as a username, so I just kept using it and it stuck.
When I joined tumblr in 2013 or so, however âC-Puffâ was already taken as a username and I was stumped as to what to call myself, and I was really unsure how tumblr worked. Is this my username? Is it my blog title? Is a tumblr blog like a mini-website inside a bigger website?? I really didnât understand how it worked. So I picked something thatâs more a blog title than a username (oops).
So I just named my blog after something from my favourite Ghibli movie; Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
I donât know if the username âC-Puffâ is up for grabs by now, but Iâve been Thefloatingstone for such a long time and people more or less know me as that on tumblr even if theyâre not familiar with âC-Puffâ as my online username so I just donât want to confuse people by changing it.
folklermore spn finale: the last great american dynasty
Okay so this post took forever to write for a couple reasons.Â
First of all, this one is special in that it has two readings for my grief.
The first one is terrible and heartbreaking and honestly I donât want to spend a lot of time on it. I see Andrew Dabb as THE great villain of Supernatural, and he truly had a marvelous time ruining everything. The sarcastic nature of the song goes in to speak to the fact that I feel legitimately crazy for how much I blame him. Itâs sad and heartbreaking. I think about it sometimes when i hear this song and instantly force myself to stop thinking about it and go back to the other view.Â
So the other view is more what you might expect with the vibe of the song... but it is SO HARD for me to put into words, I found. So Iâm sorry if this is messy and disjointed and all over the place.Â
I spoke in cardiganâs post about how Iâm not the fan the show wanted and thereâs a large part of the narrative in the folkermore-spn-finale feelings for me that expresses not being the fan the narrative wanted or needed.... Most of the time this is brought up in this, itâs angry, or sad, or whatever... but this time... this time it celebrates it.
I had a marvelous time ruining everything.
Putting this under a cut because itâs very long. I didnât mean for this to get this long rip.
I let myself sink into the feelings of wonder and awe I felt when I first fell in love with the show and then let myself find the conclusion that IF I did in fact âruin everythingâ (aka the show) by not being the fan the show needed me to be to enjoy it, at least I had a good fucking time!
From that first bit where Taylor sings that Rebekahâs salt box house took her mind of St. Louis.... Supernatural took my mind off my life too. I remember when I first watched the show, I was 20 and Iâd just failed out of school (the first time). I was lying to my mother and her husband (who I lived with) about going to school. I rode the city bus at the time because I didnât have my license yet. Iâd leave the house and say I was going to the bus stop down the street. Instead, I hid in the woods that separated my neighborhood from my grandfatherâs back yard. I worked at his house âafter schoolâ every day from 4-6, taking care of his house, doing light cleaning and cooking, helping him adjust to being a double amputee so it worked out nice. Every night I pre-loaded 5 hours of episodes on my computer so I didnât need the internet and every day I would sit in the cold on a log and put my computer on a slightly bigger log and curl up in my warm coat for a day of Supernatural before heading inside to Pappouâs house at 4. Sometimes, I just waited until the afternoon when I knew my mom would be gone and I could go home where it was warm and I had wifi. Sometimes though I got wrapped up and I just stayed there.. all day.Â
Supernatural is, what I would consider, one of the last great american TV shows. Like... Itâs right there with Greyâs Anatomy as the last TV shows that have an actual following where people watch it and itâs a thing that havenât been corrupted by the streaming world. Television is so important to me, itâs my favorite medium of storytelling and itâs been lost. Streaming destroyed it. People say weâre living in a âgolden ageâ because thereâs âso much good TVâ but thereâs NOT! What we have is high production quality on a lot of mini-series and long-format movies that have been randomly split up into âepisodesâ but donât make sense if you space them out in any way. The episodic serial format of television has been LOST and thatâs heartbreaking...Â
But to me... this song... itâs about The Last Great American TV Show, The Last Great American Fandom, The Last Great American Dynasty over my life, my fandom, my relationship with tv, and my world view.Â
The line âHow did a middle class divorcee do it?â also just... First of all thereâs something so distinctly American about it... We all know Supernatural is itself a sort of lover letter to Americana... itâs the aesthetic of Nowhere USA which is part of what makes it so effective and heartbreaking. The line in the song is about how Rebekah was just... boring, average, a little sad. Someone unremarkable you feel a little pity for. Thatâs the Nowhere USA of the aesthetic of the show... THATâS the heartbeat of âAmericana.â Itâs boring, average, unremarkable, a little sad, you kinda pity it, it shouldnât be that deep, but it is. Itâs when the unremarkable accomplishes the remarkable. And thatâs the whole myth they fed us as kids, isnât it? I could never explain the beauty of this line inside or outside the context of Supernatural to someone who isnât US American so Iâll just stop trying... but itâs just kljasfkdÂ
Anyway, the point Iâm trying to make here is that first stanza in the first verse... When I fell in love with Supernatural, I was boring unremarkable, a little sad... and the show was a wealth of possibilities... but also I was at a point where I was getting over the main fandom Iâd had for the past year and a half (Buffy) and I had just fallen in love with Sherlock and I had nothing but time. I wasnât bogged down with the anxiety of school, I got to devote my whole life and existence to this show. I was also a wealth of possibilities, and as we know the show was also boring, average, unremarkable, and a little sad. Both me and the show were Bill and both me and the show were Rebekah.
So when the wedding between me and the show was charming, if a little gauche it made sense cause thereâs only so far new money goes. For me, this represents 2012-Mishapocalpyse: The Golden Age... Look... Itâs no secret 2012 was my favorite year of all time... Tumblr was small and fun and hadnât been corrupted by wanting or trying to be âcoolâ or âedgyâ or âinteresting.â I chose the mishapocalypse for the end of this era to me because that was the last time I felt like I could come on tumblr and really just LET GO into insanity. Almost instantly people were shit talking it as if it was not the single most fun 24 hours this website had ever had. In 2013, we saw the rise of YFIP and people trying so hard to âââproveâââ they were ââââcoolââââ unlike ~those~ tumblr people!!! It was pathetic. But in 2012, we just... had fun. And it was charming, if a little out there. But there really is only so far that the youthful innocence of an online community thatâs new goes.Â
But I picked out a home on tumblr. And our parties were tasteful if a little loud. Tumblr in 2012/2013 was..... Fun. From mapcrunch to the mishapocalpyse. Some would argue about taste, but Iâd say... âif a little loud.â I really just canât separate the fun I had on tumblr back then from spn and I canât separate spn from the fun I had back then.Â
But then of course, we all need to settle down some times because the fun doesnât last forever. In this line, I hear myself in both Bill and Rebekah and I hear the show in both Bill and Rebekah. Both of our hearts gave out and the other way to blame.Â
So then the chorus... âwho knows if she never showed up what could have been?â I CHANGED because of the show, I donât know who the hell Iâd BE without it! And likewise, I donât think *I* personally changed the actual show, but the show WAS changed by each one of us. The show itself is folklore, changed and shaped in each retelling. Thereâs a creative freedom to the chorus that lives in that love.
So then thereâs the second verse. After the rose colored glasses came off, Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set forever and I gave up on the greater spn fandom forever. I dropped the hellers and joined the tight knit Dean stans. This verse is about living in spite. Itâs that wild American rebellion mixed with a little bit of sensual romanticism. In season 9, it was us against the world. And the reality is we were angrier than this verse gives and less free and fun... but looking back, it felt like A Time. I donât know how to put it into words really but it was like... We found ways (and continue to find ways) to celebrate Dean when we werenât supposed to. Fuck everyone else Dean is perfect.Â
And then in the second verse, we celebrate that rebellion. The change from âthe maddest womanâ to âthe most shameless womanâ in the chorus is so important here... In the first chorus, Rebekah and I were mad and crazy and wild. In the second chorus, we had no shame. We lived IN SPITE of the state of the world around us and fucked anyone who had anything to say about it.Â
In the first chorus, âwho knows if she never showed up what could have beenâ paired with âmaddestâ has this creative potential. Like who knows who I would have been without spn and who knows what the show would have been without us, the fandom. And in the second chorus, that line changes to this destructive force. Like the show and I were both shameless to just exist, you know? because we would have been better without each other... but even as it acknowledges that, itâs still... sweet.
So then we have the time I left the fandom. Here we only hear bits and pieces of Rebekahâs life and Rebekahâs time in Holiday House. She was only seen âon occasion.â And on occasion, you could find me reblogging some Dean stan posts, getting into spats with Sam stans, posting about how the writers suck, calling out a heller. But 7 years is a long time and my fandom sat quietly in the history of my blog... And then it was picked up by me.Â
Rebekah, in the song, refers to my past. My previous relationship with the show. Taylorâs part refers to my current relationship with the show.Â
Who knows if I never showed up what could have been? If I never came back, what would my life look like? It would have been healthier, Iâm sure. But then again - I needed this. And if the show hadnât came back who would I be?Â
But there goes the loudest non-woman this fandom has ever seen. I will scream from the ROOFTOPS! and what I want to scream is EVERYTHING from the past but with my full grown adult context. I know now more than I knew then that I had a MARVELOUS TIME ~ruining everything~!!! And I get to CELEBRATE THAT! I get to let go and have fun. I get to sit and think of Nov 5 and how that night, I relived those parties that were tasteful if a little loud. And then every day since I relived flying in the Bitch Pack friends from the city. I get to CELBRATE!
I may not have been the fan the show wanted. I may have fucked shit up. I may have lived in spite of this show even when I lived because of it. But damn I had a marvelous FUCKING TIME Ruining. Everything. Everything this show built it wanted me to see and love and appreciate with these toxic fucking relationships and the destruction of Dean Winchester can KISS MY ASS cause I had a MARVELOUS time fucking that shit up. Everything this show wanted from me that I refused to give it. Every SPEC of growth and learning and fun and enjoyment I have had from this show.... was toxic. It ruined it. Because it was not the growth and learning and fun and enjoyment the show WANTED ME TO HAVE. But damn did I have fun.Â
The show and I are the last great American dynasty full of rebellion and spite and damn is it fun.Â
#tlgad#taylor analysis#putting this in that tag because i mean#folklermore spn finale#personal#i SPENT FOREVER on this#god i'm so glad i got this out#but i don't know if it will make sense to anyone but me#tlgad spn finale
@alexander-donovan, Well, here we go.Â
Rory, there's no way on earth I could possibly describe what you've done for this community. Aside from making it all in the first place, constructing the post-apocalyptic sandbox we all hold so dear, you also pay attention to how it's executed---from basic principles of operation and how we ought to respect each other as players, down to the smallest, weirdest headcanon. It matters to you---which I think is probably the best way to summarize your energy and wisdom, the Rory-ness of it all:Â
Things matter. People matter. Caring matters.Â
In a world where we're pretty damn used to moving from one diversion to the next at a moment's notice, you make something that's absolutely set apart by saying, resolutely and passionately, that what we do here really matters.
And you're right, to think that. If you need any further proof that you---Rory---matter, you can look at me writing this damn letter (and swearing every three sentences, sorry). But you in your extremely Ro way, said hey, six years fucking matters, and so do all the people we play with, so letâs get mushy on the main and tell them. And I can tell you to your face you're right and this was a stellar idea because... I do that now. Because of your influence, I'm a better person, one who does actually try and tell people what I think.Â
You challenge people to care, and to translate their caring into something others can recognize, and reciprocate. Youâre never afraid to point out the importance of saying things and leaving a meaningful mark, becoming an active part of our community instead of staying in our own heads (as introverts on the internet are prone to doing).
You're also a hell of a writer, which is inspirational in itself, and I canât leave that out of it. Your dedication to your characters, to their motivations and struggles, shines through in every post you make, and you don't let fear or insecurity take root or stop you from doing what you love. You know it's not about achieving perfection, but about collaboration and growth. The way we write is an exercise in discipline and embracing the joys of language, it's not meant to be fine art (though a lot of the stuff you come up with off the cuff blurs the line between the two on a regular basis.) It's really very rude how talented you are.Â
I won't talk too much more about you and me personally because you already know it pretty well, but I will mention that when I offered to help out with tech stuff, you don't even know how impossible being a full mod felt for me, at the time. I'd just come out of some rough experiences and was ready to never do that again. But over the years, you gave me steps that I could take only when I felt comfortable, and let me accept only the responsibility that I thought I could manage (though you always told me you knew I was more than capable of handling it). In a very real way, with your patience and understanding, you gave me back my confidence, and my willingness to be vulnerable. That's something I won't ever forget. Â
You have my respect and my friendship, always.
And dear lord, if Tumblr has managed not to self-destruct in the next five or ten years, I really hope we're still around doing this shit. No place I'd rather be.
Love you, Ro.
<3 Lottie.
(Oh, by the way, I took the liberty of adding something else, under the cut. I knew that I would never be able to cover everything, and that Iâd run out of words, so I turned to others to fill in the gaps and maybe itâll help convey it all a little more properly. Many thanks to everyone.) â¤
     â-   Happy Colony 6th Anniversary    â-
   RO, YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE GIFT. Iâm incredibly grateful all those years ago I saw that Bones bio and decided to join this crazy little family because that is exactly what you have created with the Colony: You have made a family. You have always been a pleasure to write with, a hard-working and careful admin, and now this second go-round I'm happy to call you a good friend. I wanted to mirror your sentiment on my anniversary post, it is amazing how time rewards our patience with this second meeting! I owe you a very real debt because thanks to this group when a friend let me down whilst I was on a different goddamn continent, thanks to you, I found Cassie there to help me out! The group is an extension of you: thoughtful, kind, emotional, and funny as hell.                                                       - Nicola
   Rory, your dedication to the Colony (and previously Belvedere) astounds me every day. Writing with you is an absolute joy, thank you for all that you do for us!!                                                       - Cassie
   RO HOLY COW!! It's insane to think of being part of something so wonderful for so long, I can't imagine how proud you must be to call this place home. I absolutely love writing with every character I've gotten to interact with, you approach your characters and this RPG with such a passion, it's always made getting to be part of it all the more special to me! To many years to come!                                                       - Molly
   The things I admire most about you are your kindness, your compassion, your understanding and the way you always make the best of a situation. You've been nothing but welcoming and kind to me since I've had the privilege of joining this insanely talented and incredible group, and every day I am in awe of the love and care and detail you pour into the rpg. You have been so supportive over these past few months, every day I consider myself insanely lucky to have met you. I adore you and I'm so happy for you that you've come so far in your own personal journey, you truly do deserve all the happiness in the world.                                                       - Lou
   Ro, youâre an absolutely wonderful mod and person. Iâve never met a more dedicated and creative mod in all my years on this website. Youâre an astounding writer and creator who leaves me wanting to be better. Youâre a wonderful person to write with and an even better friend. I love you and all the work you do for everyone in this group. Thank you for creating this fantastic place and starting this wonderful family.                                                       - Lee
   Thanks for always being so open and welcoming! It's been such a blast writing with you.                                                       - Ren
   Your commitment to this game and its players is absolutely next level, and it shines through in literally everything you do for us. I havenât felt so at home and so comfortable in an RP in such a long time, possibly ever, and I know so much of that has to do with the amazing environment (both IC and OOC) youâve spent such a long time painstakingly and lovingly cultivating. This RP wouldn't be the incredible space it is without such an incredible and dedicated team of mods. I hope you know how much I appreciate all you do, and how much I flippin' love ya!                                                       - Alex
   Rory, you're a perfect admin and an amazing friend! You've always made me feel so welcome here, from day one, and my heart feels warm and fuzzy when I think of you. I utterly adore all your characters and your writing is just brilliant, it's always so much fun to brainstorm and write and plot with you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!                                                       - Ellie
   When an rp has a lifespan of not just a year or two, but SIX FREAKIN YEARS, you must look to your leader. Ships donât sail without a captain, and you have been the most loyal, loving, and adventurous captain to your crew. Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment, love. xoxo.                                                       - Amy
   Rory, I just wanted to thank you for how welcome you've made me feel since I joined the group. It takes a special person to be an admin (dedicated, patient, and just a little bit weird), and the six years you've been running this group is a testament to how well you do it. You've got incredible creativity and passion, and I know I'm not the only one that feels so lucky to write with you in this world you've built. Congratulations on six years! Here's to many more.                                                       - Nick
   RORUUUUU. I literally have no idea where my life would be now if I'd never met you. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you inspire me to be braver and stronger and more self-loving. Thank you for being my friend even after all these years.                                                       - Mika
I donât think I can concisely put into words how much you mean to me, but Iâll try: we first met in 2012 and through all these years youâve continually inspired me with your talent and hard work. Youâre more than just an incredible friend, youâre an ICONIC leader that has the determination and talent to keep this group running for six amazing years (with the help of your equally talented and wonderful co-mod, naturally, wink wonk). The Colony is a family to me, and I think to all of us, even before itâs a writing group. It couldnât be what it is today without someone as tirelessly understanding and creative at its helm. Youâre an absolute gift, youâve been there for me through thick and thin, and Iâm grateful every day that I get to call you a friend.    Ro, you have been so kind and amazing since day one! You have this astonishing energy and a kindness that honestly makes the colony feel like another home. Youâre such a phenomenal writer, and have made this rp a community like no other. I canât quite put into words how much I appreciate you, and how much effort you put into everything you do. Youâre so talented and I feel incredibly lucky to say Iâm a part of this community. Thank you for being you. xxx.                                                       - El
   The Colony has been a living, breathing world in which to create, and the key piece - creativity - is embedded in your DNA. You aren't just an enthusiastic mod. In some aspects you are the Col. I know you want everyone to feel included and allowed to be inspired by the writing of others rather than hemmed in by rules and egos so many other groups have. Thank you for throwing all your characters at me when one of mine has some wild scheme. I've said before your writing is cinematic in its expression and it always challenges me to want to (try to) write on a higher level. I'm grateful to have you as a sounding board when I get stuck in the mud of my own self-doubt with writing. Thank you for just being a friend as well and letting me ramble too. It is impossible to sum up this wildest of rides out of all my writing adventures so, much love, as always. xx.                                                       - Cat
