The next three days had gone by in a blur.
Mac had spent most of his time hanging around Curtis after the impromptu meeting with Georgia, despite the man’s somewhat unsettling personality. He also had quick, passing introductions to the friends Curtis had mentioned, as well as a few other Minutemen he was amiable with, but they kept quiet about their plans around them. A lot of them did seem like the “see something, say something” types Curtis had described to him, but they proved to be good people just trying to do right. Even if Mac couldn’t quite put his heart into it the way Georgia did, he could see the organization for what it was trying to be: change.
For all his newly established friendship with her, Georgia’s goal with the Minutemen—the whole Commonwealth, working together to protect itself in some semblance of unity—was ambitious any way you split it. Ranks appeared to be growing like weeds only when compared to the waning numbers before the betrayal at Quincy, but they were still so much smaller than they were in their heyday, or so he heard Ronnie say. For the members the Minutemen did have, most were recruited by Preston and Georgia during their early days giving aid to settlements, who in turn spread their involvement by word of mouth and so on. They must’ve been doing something right, Mac thought, if the life teaming and walking around the once abandoned fort was anything to go by.
During one of the mealtimes Mac and Curtis had with his friends, they got to offer them the opportunity to join them at the interchange. As promised, the four of them—Collins, Hollow, Gonzalez, and Buckley—were very receptive to the idea. Like Curtis, they all seemed to have some sort of beef with them, so that only made greasing the wheels of their operation easier.
Collins didn’t have much to say other than she was happy to wipe out another stain on the Commonwealth, while Gonzalez and Hollow had quickly started chatting between themselves before the conversation was even over. Buckley had listened to the proposal intently and had appeared to seriously consider his options before finally agreeing.
That very day, they all put in various leave requests, staggering the dates as they did.
While grateful and a little bit surprised by their willingness to help and not wanting to look a gift brahmin in the mouth, Mac did have his own reservations about the militia’s fighting prowess.
“I thought the Minutemen were just a bunch of backwoods farmers and stuff?” he asked Curtis afterwards.
“Well, yeah, some of us are. Actually, a lot of us are, but not everyone on board is from an allied settlement, or anywhere, really. The General likes to pick up strays, it seems,” he said, giving Mac a pointed look. “Besides Colonel Garvey and Ronnie, we’re basically taking two thirds of the Castle’s trained soldiers for this stunt, but we’ll make it work.”
While hanging around Curtis over the intervening days, Mac got to know him a little better as well. He talked about as much as Georgia did, which given their back and forth the other day, he could see how the two could get along. Even if Curtis was possibly the most unhinged man he’d ever met.
They talked a lot about the Gunners and their time with them whenever there weren’t many people around. Mac told him he only joined because he was new to the Commonwealth and hard up for caps (didn’t have to explain himself further than that, and Curtis didn’t ask). Curtis had told him he followed a friend in, but the friend didn’t get to follow him out. Mac knew not to broach that subject.
“Since you’re trailing behind General T these days, how’d you leave?” Curtis asked him during breakfast the next day, in between bites of his mirelurk stew. Unfortunately for Mac, with the Castle’s proximity to the sea, mirelurk seemed to be an ever-present menu option.
“Told them I wanted out and negotiated the rest of my contract down to three more jobs before they let me leave. I did my part, then they cut me loose. It was a clean break, but obviously they’re still not happy about it. You?” Mac explained with a lazy shrug, pushing around the bits of mirelurk in his bowl.
“Faked my death,” Curtis replied with an equally lazy shrug, like it was a normal thing to say.
“What.”
“Yeah, real easy to dress up any random corpse those fuckers made in your old clothes and then drop a molotov on it,” he said, then pointed his fork towards Mac’s bowl. “You gonna eat that?”
As for Georgia, the two didn’t get to see much of her in those few days. Ronnie and Preston had kept her busy in spite of her foot with updates on the armory, the rebuilding progress of the Castle, and trying to make heads or tails of the artillery schematics they’d found. In the brief moments Mac had caught her without something to do, she’d told him she honestly didn’t think there’d be so much paperwork involved in being General. Despite it, she seemed to be putting her nose to the grindstone with everything she did.
She had started by alphabetizing the armory write ups Ronnie had given her, typing up everything on an old typewriter that first day after her injury (“If no one organizes it now, it’s never gettin’ done, and then where would we be?”). She identified a group of Minutemen with advanced technical skills and temporarily pulled them from the fort’s repair crew to assist herself and Ronnie with the artillery. When she got too “stir crazy” as she called it, sitting in her quarters hunched over papers full of lists and diagrams, she sat in a chair and helped Preston run training drills in the courtyard. They held them in the early morning, the two working as a team in their efforts to fashion the newer recruits into model Minutemen. At some point early on, someone had even put together a crutch for her when they noticed she’d been hopping along on one foot around the Castle, using its crumbling walls as support in pursuit of her next task. If Georgia was one thing, it was stubborn.
At one point, Curtis and Mac had managed to find her as she was making her way in the direction of the bathrooms, crutch under one arm with her pack hanging off the other. They had wanted to keep her apprised of any updates to their personal mission, but ran into the issue of her free time getting taken up by Being the General of the Minutemen. As such, they’d found her in the one spare moment she could steal for a shower.
She looked between the currently vacant bathrooms and the two of them before saying, “I don’t have a lot of time right now, so either it can wait or we’re about to get real comfortable with each other.”
Which was how they ended up holding council in the bathroom, Curtis and Mac sitting outside her shower stall to “maximize time efficiency”, as she put it. Curtis was posted up in front of the door to make sure no one walked in on their scheming, while Mac had pulled up a chair, the both of them pointedly facing away from Georgia’s stall at her request. Something about “still having manners” and something called “decorum.”
On their way to the bathrooms, she’d made a point to tell them that once they’d found the showers, her first priority had been getting the pipes fixed. They had a whole pump system and everything, plus a few old water heaters pulled from apartment buildings further inland. It meant the bathrooms were buzzing with the sound of a generator and steaming pipes whenever it was in use, but it aided them in their need for privacy.
The shower stalls had rickety patchwork doors and rose up above Georgia’s shoulders, and if Mac turned his head even the slightest amount, he could see her soapy head peeking over the walls as they conversed. He made a concentrated effort to keep from reflexively turning back whenever she talked. They’d only just defined themselves as friends, so Mac was in no rush to get that personal with her, even with the stall between them.
Meanwhile, Curtis had been relaying information about his friends to Georgia, talking up their talents and specialities.
“Lieutenant Collins has a fondness for explosives, she can make things go boom if necessary. She’s on your little artillery team, so whether or not that’s done by the time we head out, she’s coming with,” Curtis said. He was completely unbothered by their choice in location, in contrast to Mac who had been anxiously tapping his foot on the ground the moment they got there. “She’s also useful in a pinch if we find ourselves in a tight spot.”
“And Corporal Hollow?”
Mac stopped himself from looking back at Georgia as Curtis replied, “Crackshot specializing in mid-range combat. Used to be a merc like your guy MacCready here. He’s not afraid to get in there, but he’s good for covering fire, too.”
“Sounds like he’ll be with me,” Georgia said as she rinsed her hair, the smell of homemade hubflower-scented soap wafting over the shower stall. “Since you and Mac have long range covered, I mean. Who else?”
“That leaves us with Privates Gonzalez and Buckley. They’re new, but show a lot of promise. Gonzalez’s got light feet and her own silencer, so I figure she could be our scout. Buckley is a big, versatile son of a bitch, so if we run into any problems we can usually throw him at ‘em,” Curtis finished. “How’s that sound?”
“Conveniently well-rounded,” Georgia supplied with a laugh. “What about you, Mac? What’re your thoughts? …Mac? Hellooo?”
“Huh? Oh,” Mac started, turning his head automatically to see Georgia peeking at him over the shower stall, wet hair plastered to her forehead. Water dripped down her freckled nose, and he could better make out the scar running through her left eyebrow, and the other, smaller one marring her chin. She squinted at him a little bit, waiting for him to respond.
“Uh, yeah. Well-rounded,” he agreed hastily, turning back around only to meet Curtis’ shit-eating grin.
He’d been distracted, and not only because he was trying hard not to focus on the physical space of the conversation at hand. He had started having trouble believing that this was actually happening—the whole operation, that was. Things never fell into place like this for Mac, that was just a general rule he’d learned in life. With not one, but two willing hands and a squad of volunteers, the winds seemed to be favoring him for once. It felt…strange. Like taking a shot and not hearing the bullet casing hit the ground, waiting for it to fall.
“Great listenin’ skills,” Georgia laughed, flicking water at him. “I’ll take a look at those leave requests on my desk later. In the meantime, Mac, d’you think you could find somewhere nearby for them to hole up in for a day or two while they wait? And take Dogmeat with you, he’ll help you scout a place out.”
He ended up finding an abandoned house outside of the Minutemen patrols by that afternoon, stashing a bag of food Curtis had pilfered from the kitchens for the rest of the now formed squad. Hollow and Buckley would be there that night, followed by Collins the next morning, and Gonzalez and Curtis the day after. Once the squad was out, Mac and Georgia would follow—she just had to come up with a good cover.
From what Georgia had told him as he was sticking her with another stimpak for her foot, she had been trying to stagger the leave requests quickly, but still have them spread out enough for people not to notice much out of the ordinary. She mentioned something about Preston and Ronnie and “plausible deniability.” Even so, Mac had caught the Minuteman’s eye more than once around the Castle, like he knew something was afoot. Every time Mac would just duck his head and make to avoid him.
Mac had waved off Curtis and Gonzalez when they left, Curtis dragging out the entire affair by going around and shaking the hands of everyone in the courtyard. Georgia and himself would follow suit the next morning after testing the newly constructed artillery she, Ronnie, and their little team had been busy with. Even with her still-healing foot, Georgia insisted on following Ronnie around like a student following their teacher, looking for the older woman’s approval wherever she could.
Once Curtis had finally left, Mac turned to go find Georgia to let her know, only to be met with Preston himself walking up. The man carried himself with purpose, taking long strides in his direction, indicating he was heading for absolutely no one else. Mac couldn’t even pretend he didn’t notice the Minuteman before he was standing in front of him.
“MacCready,” he said, nodding his head in greeting and Mac froze. Preston took notice, because his next words came out softer, “Can we talk for a minute? It won’t take long.”
“Uh…sure, Garvey. What do you need?” he replied with no small amount of hesitation.
“Just follow me,” Preston said, gesturing over his shoulder where his laser rifle was strapped. Curious and the tiniest bit suspicious, Mac followed.
Preston led him through the Castle’s halls and up a set of stairs to one of the bastions. An artillery piece sat completed before them as they came up, ready for testing the next morning. A Minuteman tipped their hair to Preston, walking past them to go down the stairs, and Preston mirrored the gesture. Once they were alone, he turned to Mac.
“Now,” he started, voice quiet and even enough that it calmed Mac’s nerves somewhat, “I don’t claim to know whatever it is you, the General, and Captain Campbell seem to be doing, and I don’t want to know. I trust the General’s judgment, and Campbell is a good captain. You, on the other hand, are an unknown.”
Preston already knew too much for him to try lying his way out of it, but he didn’t seem angry, so that was a win. Mac arched an eyebrow at him, unsure of where this was going.
“But the General said she trusts you, and I want to believe her trust isn’t misplaced. She told me you saved her life,” Preston continued, and met him with a speaking look. “Is that correct?”
Images of Georgia falling flashed through Mac’s mind for a moment, making a chill run up his spine. He nodded.
“So, once this secret operation of yours is complete, the Minutemen will still have their General afterwards, right?” Preston pressed, and Mac could see what he was getting at.
After spending a few days within the Minuteman HQ, he’d picked up a bit of their history, and they didn’t have the best luck when it came to the longevity of their leaders. He couldn’t blame Preston for getting worried, especially considering how familiar he and Georgia seemed to be with one another.
“Don’t worry so much, Garvey. She watches my back as much as I watch hers,” Mac conceded. “Plus, she’s able to take care of herself. You wouldn’t have made her General otherwise, right?”
“You got me there,” Preston agreed, but he didn’t seem quite finished. “But I’m also worried about how this will affect more than just the General. I saw the leave requests. She’s not the only one we want back safe.”
“The goal is to get everyone back in one piece,” Mac said, but he’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought about what would happen if their little mission went sideways. He didn’t want to be responsible for the deaths of more innocent people.
“Good. I’m glad to see she’s been traveling with someone like you that’s able to watch her back in my place. Someone with a good head,” Preston nodded, and Mac had the sinking feeling he wouldn’t be saying that if he really knew anything about him.
“She told me she used to run around with you before she hired me,” he said, then suddenly remembered something. “Wait, question: has she always been bad at using stimpaks?”
A smile cracked through Preston’s serious expression, obvious fondness coming through as he nodded, “Ever since I’ve known her. When it comes to that, she’s not as gentle as you’d expect her to be.”
“I’ve learned not to make many assumptions about her,” Mac told him with a slight laugh. “She’s too full of surprises.”
“More than either of us knows for sure,” Preston agreed, smile faltering somewhat, then sighed. “For whatever it is you’re doing, good luck. I hope it’s worth it.”
With that, he reached out to pat Mac on the shoulder, giving a firm nod before going back the way they came. Mac let go of a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. He hoped it would be worth it, too.
-----
Later that night, after palling around with a few of the other Minutemen that Curtis had introduced him to over the last few days, Mac had gone in search of Georgia. He debated over whether or not to tell her about his conversation with Preston as he walked around trying to find her, and couldn’t help but speculate on the relationship between the two.
Despite Preston’s worries fixating around the Minutemen, Mac picked up the vibe that even if that weren’t the case, if Georgia were just some regular person and not the General, he’d still be upset if something happened to her. Mac had to remember that by helping him, Georgia was being pulled into danger, and that she had friends that would hold him responsible if that danger proved fatal.
After checking her quarters, the common area, and then finally the kitchens, a Minuteman with a pair of dark shades that he had passed by several times figured he must have been looking for the General, and pointed him up the stairs to the bastion. Mac nodded his thanks and walked up, greeted by the smell of salty air and a wind strong enough to make him pull his scarf tighter around him. Along with the sea, a minty, smoky scent blew over him.
Sitting near the edge of the bastion was Georgia and a pack of cigarettes, staring out onto the water. Her hair was loose, blowing freely in the wind around her head, and she had the thick blanket from her quarters wrapped around her. She hadn’t noticed him coming up the stairs, and Mac hesitated in the stairwell for a moment, wondering if she had purposefully wanted to be left alone. Then, he wondered why he’d even come to find her in the first place. He hadn’t even had a reason, he realized, just followed the urge.
In his hesitation, a stiff breeze blew over the bastion, knocking over the crutch Georgia had left leaning against the stairs.
She whipped back when it clattered to the ground, cursing into the wind as she jumped with a start. When she saw him standing there, however, she visibly relaxed.
“Jesus, you about gave me a heart attack,” she called out, putting the hand that wasn’t holding her cigarette to her chest.
“Sorry, sorry,” Mac replied as he righted her crutch, then crossed the length of the bastion to meet her.
As he got closer, he could see several other cigarette butts and matching ash stains on the stone next to her, her open cigarette carton half gone. She patted the space to her left for him to sit upwind from her smoke. He leaned back to rest on his palms, looking at her from an odd angle. As he got comfortable, Georgia picked up the carton beside her, offering him a single cigarette poking out amongst the rest. He took it with a nod and she flicked open her lighter, attempting to light it before the wind put out the flame. She leaned in close to him to block the breeze, her blanketed shoulder bumping gently against his. When it finally caught, she took her lighter away and didn’t make to move back.
Mac brought the cigarette up to his mouth and inhaled, mint coating the inside of his throat and making him cough.
“Didn’t take you for a chain smoker,” he said as he cleared his throat, leaning back to let his smoke be carried away on the wind behind her.
“Neither did I, at first,” she shrugged after a long drag. “I didn’t start smokin’ until I was a teacher, actually. I got real good at findin’ the right time to sneak off and light up.”
Mac was caught off guard with how freely the fact of her past left her mouth. He didn’t say anything for a moment, wondering if she was going to keep talking. When she didn’t, he realized she was waiting for him to respond, almost like asking for permission to keep going. He shifted next to her, putting his cigarette back to his lips and inhaling.
“You were a teacher?” he asked, gently trying to prompt more out of her.
“In another life, yeah. Twenty-eight seven to eight year olds versus me,” Georgia nodded, and he could feel the tenderness in her voice. “They could’ve eaten me alive and ran that classroom if they wanted. Surprisingly, they didn’t.”
Mac nearly balked. The tunnels in Little Lamplight were expansive, but they’d never had more than fifteen to twenty kids at a time, at least when he was there. There had been about seventeen when he left. Even when he was young, he knew adding any number of kids to an already sizable group of children became even harder to manage, much less twenty-eight of them. He knew from experience.
“I do not pity you there. Back in Little Lamplight, I kept up with about twenty, more or less,” Mac said, shaking his head. Sure, it was a revolving door of children within that range, but with the way he ran things, it never flew too far off the handle.
“Twenty? Oh, that’s child’s play. Beginner shit,” she teased with a breath of a laugh. “I would have loved to have a classroom that small when I started. But those extra eight were always sweet.” She paused, taking another drag and letting it out with a heavy sigh. “I remember each of their names and faces. I think about them a lot.”
Mac had to wonder where she had taught. Where had she been that she had a classroom of twenty-eight children, all of whom survived the first few years of life in the wasteland with no accidents of birth or disease preventing them from attending altogether. There had been plenty of epidemics that swept through their little cave system, leaving most Lamplighters with the side effects. Lucy and the others had done their best to keep everyone healthy, but there was only so much they could do by themselves.
“What I’m tryin’ to say is this,” Georgia said, turning to face him, “in case it isn’t obvious, I have a soft spot for kids. Always have. When you told me about Little Lamplight, I guess I got a little upset imaginin’ you and all those kids livin’ like that. I mean, underground? By yourselves? Really?”
Mac breathed a sharp laugh through his nose, “I didn’t pick it, I just grew up there.”
“And I guess you turned out alright,” she said, and he saw a grin ease its way back onto her face, “for the most part.”
“Hey, watch it, now,” he warned, wagging a finger at her, “you’re talking to the former mayor.”
Georgia’s eyes went wide and a startled expression came over her. “Mayor? So not only were you in charge, you were the mayor?”
“Crazy, I know, but can’t say it didn’t do me some good,” Mac shrugged, putting his cigarette between his teeth to mimic looking down the scope of an imaginary rifle. “I’m completely self-taught, y’know. Picked up a sniper rifle at age ten and never looked back. Impressed yet?”
“Impressed and maybe just the tiniest bit concerned about your childhood development,” she laughed. “So did the other kids just…vote for you?”
At that, Mac felt the back of his neck flush with heat. He let his eyes dart out over the sea as he took another drag.
“Well, it didn’t go exactly like that…”
“Oh god, Mac, what did you do?”
“Listen,” he started, holding his hands up in defense, “if Angela hadn’t appointed herself mayor and insisted everyone call her ‘Princess’, I…wouldn’thavehadtopunchher.”
Georgia pushed a few pieces of hair behind her ear, cupping her hand around it, “Come again?”
“I wouldn’t have had to punch her in her stupid nose!” Mac relented, throwing his hands up as she descended into a fit of laughter. “Seriously, I mean, she would have run that place into the ground. Everyone should’ve been grateful I took over when I did–there was an issue with rickets again not long after, and I don’t think—”
“Wait, wait, wait, hold on, rickets?!” Georgia balked, eyebrows quickly furrowing in disbelief.
“Not a lot of fresh food in a cave,” he pointed out and she seemed to collapse under her blanket, burying her head into her hands. “If I hadn’t been in charge and put Lu—” He choked on her name, then cleared his throat. “If I hadn’t put our best doctor on rickets research, that could’ve been it for Lamplight.”
“Jesus, Mac,” came her muffled reply. “You can’t tell me stuff like this–you’re takin’ years off my life with the stress. Pullin’ at my heartstrings like a guitar.”
He couldn’t help but shrug, “It was tough, but we pulled through. I’ve made it this far, haven’t I?”
Georgia turned to look at him, taking in the entirety of him in one quick glance before nodding, “You certainly have. I’m glad you did.”
Mac wasn’t sure how to respond to that, her habit of being far too earnest during moments like these. Where he was quick to laugh off a serious moment, she seemed to cherish them, make them last longer than they should’ve with a bigger impact than expected. It made his insides feel like a molerat was burrowing inside his chest.
Quiet fell between them for a moment, save for the waves washing against the shore and the faint sounds of Radio Freedom carried over by the wind. They smoked in silent tandem until the ends of their cigarettes flickered out into ash.
“So, you ready to head out tomorrow?” Georgia asked after a while, putting her cigarette butt with the rest of them while he flicked his off the side of the bastion. She tutted at him as he did, “Litterbug.”
“Don’t think littering has mattered in about two hundred years,” he shrugged to her pursed expression. “But yeah, all my stuff’s ready. What’s the plan for tomorrow?”
“Ronnie wants me to stay long enough to test the artillery, so that’s gotta happen first. After that, we’ll head out and meet Curtis and the others, then go on down to the interchange,” she explained. “If we stick to the main roads, we can make it there in about a day and a half, I think. I suppose we’ll come up with a plan of attack when we’re closer.”
“You know, when you lay it all out like that, it almost seems reasonable, and not the craziest idea in the fu—freaking world,” Mac said, shaking his head in disbelief. “I still can’t believe we’re doing this. I didn’t think one person would agree to help, let alone six. We might actually stand a chance.”
“Hey, if you need my help, I’m there,” she said, reassuring in a way that came easy to her. “You can ask for help, you know. We’re friends now. That’s what friends do.”
“And I still don’t know what to say to that,” he replied, unable to hide his exasperation. “Truth is, I haven’t been able to rely on anyone since I was a kid. Everyone has either tried to rip me off or plant a knife in my back. But you…you’re different. We see eye-to-eye on almost everything.”
“Except you still won’t admit that the Silver Shroud could beat Grognak in a fight.”
“Okay, first of all, that’s why I said almost, and second, I can’t believe how dedicated you are to being wrong.”
“On the contrary, your argument makes it so easy to be right—”
They went on until they covered every feasible argument they could manage on the subject. When Mac helped her limp back to her quarters later, he still wasn’t sure who won, or if one of them even did. The discussion was tabled until they could gather more evidence for their respective sides. He’d have to find more issues of Grognak soon.
-----
The next morning, after helping Georgia administer one last stimpak, Mac opted to hit the showers before they had to leave, finally able to take advantage of the Castle’s facilities. He cleaned and sharpened his boot knife as well, finding a quiet corner and a cracked mirror to clean up the scruff that had begun to get a little out of control in the past few weeks. It had started coming in patchy on the sides and made him look younger than he was, so it had to go. His hair would have to wait—he didn’t have the scissors nor the skill to fix it up just then.
As he was shaving around the curve of his jaw, however, a second, less muffled explosion than the one from a few days before sounded from the other side of the Castle.
“Shit.” Mac let a string of curses out under his breath as his knife slipped across his jawline, a small cut now bleeding freely.
He sighed, wiping away the blood with the cuff of his sleeve before finishing the rest of the job. At least the artillery seemed to be working. He held his sleeve to the cut until it stopped bleeding, then picked up his knife again. After he was done, he cleaned and slid his knife back into the holster on his boot and made his way to the courtyard. Over by the entrance to the armory, he saw Georgia talking with Preston, all geared up with Dogmeat sitting patiently beside her.
“—back to the city for…personal business. With Mr. Valentine,” he heard her say as he quietly approached. “I don’t know when we’ll be back this way, but you know how to get in contact if you need me. I’ll try to keep you updated on how it goes.”
“Please do,” Preston said with a serious nod.
So that’s the cover we’re using, Mac thought, stopping just short of the two of them as they talked. Considering she had let the detective know when she’d be back in town, he figured she had some sort of business with him. Mac just wasn’t sure exactly what kind of business. Still, he’d always heard the best lies had a little bit of truth in them.
“And would you mind keepin’ Dogmeat for a few more days? I think he deserves a little bit of a rest since he’s been with me for a few weeks straight,” Georgia said, and Dogmeat whimpered, looking up at her with the closest thing to a pout Mac had ever seen come from a dog. It was more likely she didn’t want to risk him getting hurt or in the way with a plan as delicate as theirs was. “Oh, c’mon, boy, don’t be like that. Put those puppy-dog eyes away!”
Preston laughed and grinned down at the hound, “I’ll watch over him. He can help train the recruits with me in your absence.”
“Thanks, hun. At the very least he can chase ‘em around while they’re runnin’ laps,” Georgia laughed, crouching down to give the dog a good scratch before looking back up at Preston. “I’ll try to swing around when I can. Might make a trip back to the old neighborhood soon, see how things are holdin’ up there, but I gotta head out in a bit. I’ll see you later, Preston.”
“Maybe I’ll see you there. Until next time,” Preston nodded. “Good luck, General, and stay safe out there.”
The Minuteman caught Mac’s eye over Georgia’s shoulder as she pulled him in for a hug, giving him a speaking look that said all he needed to know before they pulled apart. If it came down to it, Mac would make sure Georgia made it back at least, as harsh as it sounded. He knew how to spot the big players, and as General, she was the biggest piece on the board.
Preston tipped his hat to the two of them before leaving with Dogmeat at his side, and Georgia turned around, only to be surprised to see him standing behind her.
“Jesus, Mac, I’m gonna have to put a bell on you,” she said, startled, then she paused, eyes darting around his face. “Oh. You shaved.”
He reflexively reached up to itch at his remaining facial hair, arching an eyebrow at her, “What, did I miss a spot?”
“...No, just noticin’,” she said, shaking her head quickly and letting her fingers drum against the straps of her pack. “Ready to head out?”
“Yeah, but how’s your foot feeling after that last stimpak?” Mac asked, gesturing to her feet. It had been an hour or two since he’d administered the stim, but she’d been so eager to test the artillery that he didn’t get to completely check her over.
“Feels good as new thanks to you,” she said, sticking out her boot and rolling her ankle around. “Let’s go.”
“Now hold on a minute.” Mac moved to stand in front of her, stopping her from walking off. “No aches or pains? Sharp stabbing feelings?”
She rolled her eyes and let out an exaggerated sigh, “I’m fine, Mac. I’ve been able to walk on it alright, I promise.”
Mac bit the inside of his cheek, “I’m just saying, it wouldn’t hurt to take one more day if you need it—”
She reached out, her hand falling to squeeze his arm through the sleeve of his duster, cold as every other time she’d done it despite the warmth of her words, “We’ve got people waitin’ on us, Mac. People that wanna help, so it’s probably best not to keep them waitin’.”
He sighed as she took her hand away, “Fine. But if you start slowing down, I’m not carrying you.”
She smirked, leading them out of the Castle, “You would if there were enough caps in it.”
“Okay, yeah, sure, but that’d be a stupid waste of caps on your part.”
She laughed as the Minutemen on gate duty closed it behind them, waving their goodbyes to their General. She waved back and threw him a smile before turning to the road ahead of them.
They got to the house Mac had scouted out about an hour later, the sun high in the sky above them.
“This one here,” he said as they came close. Its faded yellow siding and once vibrant red door had been an easy identifying feature when relaying directions to the rest of the group.
“How quaint,” Georgia said as she walked up the steps.
She held up her hand to knock on the door, only for it to swing open to Curtis’ wide grin before she could.
“Nice of you to join us,” he greeted them as Georgia jumped back with a small yelp. “Welcome to our humble abode.”
“That’s not how you greet people at the door,” Georgia muttered as Curtis moved back to let them both through the door.
Inside, the rest of the team were sprawled about the remains of the house’s living room. Collins sat on a sagging couch and was bent over something in her lap, while Hollow and Gonzalez were playing cards in the middle of the floor, Buckley sat in a chair across from them just watching them play. When Georgia entered the room, Mac watched all of them scramble to present themselves for their General.
“Oh, please, you don’t have to do all that,” Georgia said, holding her hands up and going a bit pink in the cheeks. “Technically we’re all off duty, anyways.”
“Oh, thank god you’re cool,” Gonzalez said, relaxing back into the slouched posture she’d had before. She had short, shaggy black hair and seemed to positively ooze cool from every pore.
Collins, a tall, gangly woman with dark red hair and freckles, snorted but didn’t look up from whatever she was tinkering with, “Told you.”
From behind them, Curtis clapped his hands together, “So, General T, what’s our first move?”
Georgia slung her pack off her shoulders, sitting it on a nearby chair to fish out her Pip-Boy.
“I’ve mapped out a route for us to take, and we could be there sometime tomorrow afternoon if we keep pace,” she started, tapping her nails against the screen. “We can follow the Turnpike for a while, but I was thinkin’ about turnin’ off once we’re closer so we can come at the Interchange sideways. From what I know about ‘em, the Gunners probably have the roads covered, right? When we get there, we can scope the place out before we decide how we wanna play it. How’s that sound?”
“Good thing I put on my walking boots today,” Hollow muttered, gathering the deck of cards off the floor. He was a stocky man with dark, tawny skin and broad shoulders, and wore his Minuteman hat tilted back on his head. Mac half wished he had nabbed one of the ridiculous hats before they left the Castle.
“Sounds like a plan,” Buckley said, speaking up for the first time since they’d entered the house. Curtis hadn’t been lying when he said the man was big—he had to duck his shaved head to avoid bumping it on the low ceiling. “Hopefully one that means we come back alive.”
Georgia smiled, a hint of uncertainty in the slight waver of her voice, “Well, that’s the goal.”
“It’s a good plan,” Mac nodded, catching her eye and watching her smile grow more confident. “For now at least. The rest can come later. Now, are we ready to head out?”
-----
They made camp when the last rays of sunlight faded over the horizon, the first leg of their journey done. Georgia showed Mac whereabouts they were on her Pip-Boy map, somewhere near where the railroad tracks crossed with the Turnpike’s main road. With her skill in sneaking through the city by way of old shops and side alleys, they were apparently right on time with whatever schedule she had come up with in her head. The Interchange wasn’t too far down the way.
After a collective vote proposed by Georgia, the group took to settling down for the night in a house near the river. It was a suitable shelter after clearing out a small host of rad roaches that Georgia hadn’t been too pleased to encounter. Most of the living room was largely intact save for a wall of broken windows facing the water and a few pieces of barely damaged furniture scattered about the room. Once inside and settled, everyone began to claim their spots. With seven people, they decided to do the night watch in groups.
Before everyone else turned in—Georgia had offered to be part of the first watch group and Mac had volunteered right after—Mac made an attempt to get their attention by standing up from the chair he’d claimed and clearing his throat. He felt nervous, and not from having everyone’s eyes on him. When you grew up trying to wrangle a colony of kids your age who knew exactly how to bust your balls, public speaking wasn’t something Mac had issue with. It was what the group before him was going to help him do that he was anxious about.
“I’ll try to make this quick,” he started, clasping his hands together to stop them from fidgeting. He spared a glance at Georgia, who had been studying the map on her Pip-Boy but was now listening with rapt attention. “This is anyone’s last chance to back out. If you’re having second thoughts or feel like this isn’t something you wanna risk your life for, I get it. Won’t hold it against you. You’re, uh, free to go, I guess.”
The first person to react was Collins, who snorted, “Like hell I’m missing out on giving those Gunner bastards their due. You’ve got your reasons for going after them, and so do we.”
“Plus, it’s one hell of a hike back to the Castle,” Curtis chuckled, pulling snatches of laughter from the room.
Gonzalez huffed out a breath from where she’d been cleaning her gun, the silencer next to her kit. “The Gunners don’t care about finding a reason for half the shit they do. What’s a better reason than just wanting to knock a group of assholes down a few pegs?”
“Having your brother caught in their crossfire might be a better one,” Collins said with a shrug that belied hidden bitterness. “Not to one up you or anything.”
Gonzalez made a face while Hollow gave a shaky laugh and pointed toward her, “I don’t have a much better reason than this one does. When I was still a merc, I had more than a few contracts taken from me in favor of the Gunners. Maybe it counts for something when you need the money, I dunno.”
Mac agreed with the man there; he knew that feeling all too well. He had remained quiet, however, not wanting any of them to start further prodding him for his own justification—no need to get into the nitty gritty of it, of why the Gunners were after him. They had simply told them that the Gunners wanted Mac, who was now apparently a “good friend” of Curtis’, gone. Curtis had almost made it sound like an unjust bounty the way he’d explained it, Mac letting him take the lead and half hoping the man’s mystifying charisma would be enough to carry them through the rest. It had worked well enough to get the group to agree to help, and for that Mac was grateful.
“I’m with you, Cath,” Buckley spoke up, staring at Collins across the room. He took up the whole door frame he’d been leaning on, a wall of muscle between the wood. “Lost some friends in Quincy. I’m here because of them.”
All eyes then turned to Georgia, who had remained quiet in a room full of people for the longest amount of time Mac had noticed since he’d met her.
“What about you, General?” Gonzalez asked, hands still working over her weapon. “Can’t say I wasn’t a little surprised that you signed off on this whole thing.”
Georgia looked up at Mac from where she had been sitting on her sleeping bag and Mac had to fight himself from looking away from the sincerity in her expression.
“My friend Mac here saved my life,” she said simply and he swallowed thickly, “least I could do is help him out, y’know? Only coincidence we found others with a similar goal.”
“Pays to be a friend of the General then, huh?” Collins piped up with a pointed look towards Mac. “Good to have someone like that at your back.”
“It has its perks,” he shrugged, and held Georgia in his gaze for a moment longer than necessary.
“What can I say? I’m useful like that,” she laughed, then stood up from her sleeping bag and stretched. “We should start turnin’ in soon, get an early start tomorrow so we have some time to scope the Interchange out.”
The rest of the group called out their various agreements. As they began to get settled for the night, she picked up her shotgun and slung it over her shoulder. Attached to it was the leather strip that had previously been on the rifle that now stayed strapped to the side of her pack. Her new weapon was covered in scuffs and dings from the various altercations they’d been in since Mac had given it to her.
Once she was ready, she came to stand next to Mac, and put a hand on his arm, cold as ever despite the fabric between them. “You and I have a hot date with first watch, can’t keep her waitin’.”
Mac breathed a laugh through his nose as she led them out to the porch, their only plan for the rest of the night to keep an eye out for any perceived threat that would come to harm them. Compared to what they had hoped to do the next day, he could manage as much. They had numbers and strategy on their side and for a moment, he dared to hope it was enough.

Your best friend Wade who always jokingly flirts with you the way he flirts with everyone - and you hate it because you have a real genuine crush on him and the flirting doesn’t mean anything… does it? It has to take a mutual friend to be like “oh my god he’s in love with you and doesn’t know how to tell you, so that’s why he’s always joking about boners” (please and thank u ilu 😌)
omg avo this kicked my ass, the amount of pining for Wade as he (jokingly, you think) flirts with you would be off the charts 🥲💖 I wrote a little drabble with how that might go, I love you and your ideas - thanks so much for sending this to me!!!
— cause every time we touch (i get this feeling)
best friend!wade wilson x mutant!reader
<1k | flirting, dirty jokes, heaps of pining
Blow job. Leg Spreader. Slippery Nipple. Liquid Viagra. Sex on the Pool Table. Pink Silk Panties.
Each time Wade comes into Sister Margaret’s - which is four or five times a week - he asks for dirtier and more obscure drinks.
"Wishful thinking", he tells you, each time.
Even with the roll of your eyes, you have to admit that it keeps you on your toes. That you look forward to seeing your best friend so often - tamping down the jolt in your belly, night after night.
Reminding yourself that yes, he got you this job, but he's not here to see you.
That this always was his spot.
It had been an easy sell. Used to working overnight shifts - security, back then. After the disaster with Weasel, they had been desperate for a replacement. Wade had come to you immediately, dropping to his knees as you opened the door.
Winning you over with a "you could literally get paid to hang out with me. How is this not a win-win-win? How is this not your dream job?"
And here, you didn't have to hide what or who you were. Reading feelings and intent were a bonus, when a handshake could tell you everything you needed to know. Their feelings spilled as easily as they were written, when you were negotiating contracts.
It also helped in-house. A human lie detector. Able to break up fights, settle arguments. A party trick, when things got slow. The regulars trying to get things past you - tales based in truth spun tall, seeing when you'd catch them.
Wade never plays, but you think that's because you know him so well.
And what seems like a sell, quickly evolves into more. Warping, as days pass. Spending more time with a crush sounds tempting, on paper.
The reality is something else.
Yes, there is a seat saved for him at the bar. Literally saved - his name scrawled across the vinyl, and you still haven't been able to scrub it out. Stopping by at all hours to chit chat.
Teasing you - how he's "so glad he doesn't have to stalk you at your old job anymore". An over-the-top sigh about being relieved that you're safe now - in your new job, surrounded by mercs.
Begging for the best job. Puppy-dog eyes. Fake coupons for favors that would make a sinner blush. Crossing his heart that you could have anything, and he means anything you wanted, if he could only get "that thing involving the murder clowns".
It's enough to make you hope.
Later, at home - in the early hours as you're pulled under. Replaying his comments. The filthy jokes and the shameless flirting - wondering if that's all they were.
Wondering if he'd be waiting for you tomorrow, perched on his stool.
But there's the downfall.
You see him - but you also see him with everyone else.
The charming smiles. Head thrown back in a laugh as he works the room. A friend to all, and as you watch him - perched on the knee of a goddess of mercenary as he yaps away, you can't help the swift current of jealousy.
Of foolishness.
It's enough that you're almost regretting agreeing.
Your mood is sullen, as you wipe down glasses. Trying to ignore the ache when you see him flirt. That realization that the something special you thought he had with you, might just be a part of his personality.
And when Dopinder shuffles from the back with more ice for the chiller behind the bar, it only takes one look at you before he's sighing.
"Not again. Please, I am begging you. I cannot take more of your yearning.”
Your lips quirk. Hadn't realized you'd become that obvious. He'd become your go-to, in the long hours you spend together behind the bar. Pinkie-promising not to say a word - but you always thought you'd had a decent handle on your expressions.
"We don't have to talk about it." Your hands raise, placating, "Just let me yearn in peace. I'll get over it."
"You know that almost half of what DP makes a month is funneled back in here, right?" He gives you a long look, "Before you, I saw him once a week. I had to beg him to come get his paycheck."
Doubt still lingers.
"Doesn't mean anything," You shrug - eyes dropping, as you help him restock.
"You do not think Mr. Pool worships the ground you walk on?"
The intensity of his question has you side-eying him, "I mean... I don't think he sees me that way. He acts the same with me as he does with everyone."
“Sure.” He huffs, leaning against the bartop, just as Wade plunks down in the seat in front of you.
“God, I haven’t been over here in like-,” Wade checks a fake watch, “Fifteen minutes? Feels like longer. Felt like a fucking hour.”
Pivoting back and forth on the stool as he adds, “Is it possible for people to get separation anxiety? Or is that just dogs? Is this how Dogpool feels when I’m gone?”
You just manage to catch the last bit, as Dopinder slips away.
“Exactly the same.”
Tonight, Wade is the first person that sits down in front of you for the game.
A frown, as you peel off your gloves - your barrier, to the outside world.
His own already bare - sliding back-and-forth over his suit-clad thighs. You'd mistake it for nerves, if you weren't so sure Wade had never been nervous in his life.
"What's your story, Wilson?" You ask, "Hope you brought something good."
"Oh, it's a whopper. A real fucking doozy. Apparently, you're not gonna believe it. " His laugh is a little too loud, and your eyes narrow, "But let's give it a whirl, okay?"
There's a flicker, behind the bar. A sideways look towards the bar, where Dopinder's hands cover his face. You don't need to touch him to read the guilt written across his features - the way he almost flinches, under your glare.
You're going to fucking kill him.
The sound of your name brings you back.
“Ready to play?”
Wade's hands rest face-up on the table - an offering. For once in his life he almost looks serious, and it’s enough to bring you back.
A breath - before you align your own. Letting them drop down, skin mapping against skin for the first time.
It floods through you.
The lick of heat that almost feels like a caress. A deep yearn that causes your own heart to twinge, layering with the feeling of need. Desire. Want.
It's familiar. It mirrors something deep inside, something that’s become as much a part of you as flesh and bone.
Oh.
A laugh slips from you, breaking the beat of silence. Relief tinged with disbelief - your smile stretching wide.
“Yeah?” You breathe, softening.
“Yeah.” He laughs, “Thought I was being obvious. But you are pound-cake dense, apparently.”
Hands flipping over, to entwine between yours. Letting that feeling inside him linger, settling warm and comforting over your bare skin.
“But I like that about you.” Another huff of a laugh, “Like all of you, really. Always have.”
It makes your heart ache. In a way that finally feels full, feels right - instead of the near-agony you’ve been bearing for weeks.
Only you could be such an idiot.
thanks for reading! 💖

ೃ⁀➷ one love, two mouths
- ,, ao’nung x fem reader
- ,, being bestfriends with aonung ever since you gained consciousness was pleasant, but comes with a side of flirting and realizations you want to be more than just friends, or bestfriends.
- ,, warnings - SUGGESTIVE! adults watch out this is a teenager ur reading abt. minors pls be careful if u dont like making out!! ao’nung is a btch but not to u, tanhì is na’vi for “star, bioluminescent freckle”, simp ao’nung yasss thats like all my characters lol gunna ignore that!!
ps : tanhì is not readers name lol, just a nickname that ao’nung gave her!!!
-‘๑’- sweater weather - the neighborhood
Ao’nung was mean, you’ve seen how quick he is to bite back and claw at any opportunity that gives him a moment of glory against his rivals, plenty of times.
Ao’nung is mean to everyone, everyone but you, and his family, and maybe Roxto.
Excluding those people, ao’nung has never tried to purposefully hurt your feelings, maybe in a moment of childish banter, he has said mean things that are fleeting, they go away as quickly as they come because he sees the look on your face, and says sorry with a heavy heart.
Some days he is not as apologetic, and delays his apologies until a day or two, you walk away with hurt, anger, and hesitation but he always comes to u, can’t bare being away from you, his girl.
You are sitting on the sand, knees up to your chest as you gaze upon the sea, muscles sore from swimming all day. You almost fall asleep as the peaceful sound of the waves lulls you but alas, your one and only makes his presence known with his loud greeting.
“My tanhì, you look a little lonely!” ao’nung chuckles and sits down beside you, right beside you. No literally, he’s so close that your arm and leg are touching his. Why’s he so close? There’s literally so much space? You’ve stopped questioning it, he’s been touchy with you since forever.
He ruffles the top of your head affectionately, the little smile on his face tells you he’s in a good mood. “hi ao’nung” you say softly and give him a sweet smile, god he almost just melted at the spot, “you seem happy today”
“i am” he replies shortly and you lay your head on his shoulder, letting out a satisfied sigh at finally seeing your favorite person.
his hand finds it’s way to your leg and he gives you a prompt squeeze on your thigh, affection came as naturally as breathing to him when it was with you.
Your eyes roam around the sea as you look at the people smiling with their ilu’s and splashing around in the water, you catch a glimpse of a group of 4 girls as you shudder with the piercing look they give you. You recognize those girls as Tsireya’s friends, remembering her telling you about her dislike for a lot of their decisions. She told you to avoid them, they’re no good.
You furrow your eyebrows in confusion when you see the said girls make their way to you and ao’nung, probably only having matters that deal with ao’nung, you’re pretty sure they’ll ignore your whole existence if anything.
You being this close to The Olo’Eyktan’s only son ignites some sort of resentment in them, automatically making you their competition and viewing you as a threat.
“bruh not these chicks again” ao’nung mutters quietly in irritation and lets out a groan into your hair, hoping they’ll go away if he can’t see them. You giggle but your smile is gone as soon as the girls stop right in-front of your bestfriend. “Ao’nung!! We we’re gonna go take a swim with our ilu’s, I think you should join us! Im sure sitting here watching the ocean isn’t that interesting” the girl’s giggle thinking Ao’nung will get up and follow them without a word.
For a second you believed so too, what you were doing wasn’t that fun, but you didn’t want fun, you wanted calm.
“fuck no” you hear pure distaste in ao’nung’s voice, it makes you cringe, the second hand embarrassment of straight rejection in the face. You smile, he’s really showing no interest in these girls, you almost feel bad, but whats it to you?
“oh- well- you can- you can always come join us later or whatever, whenever y/n lets you go” you’re a bit offended, you aren’t holding ao’nung back from anything, especially these girls, any choice he makes is solely his decision.
“nah im good i prefer y/n anyways”
“whatever” the girls huff and puff and stomp off the space you guys we’re currently sitting at
“bit mean, don’t u think”
“i don’t care” you smile at his quick response
“i think a lot of people dislike our friendship ao’nung, you’re the next Olo’Eyktan and they think i’m competition. They can’t let me ruin their chances of becoming Tsahik.”
“tanhì, what are you even saying?”
“i just.. what i mean is.. you’re almost ready to find a mate, and you must choose wisely, as your choice will be the next Tsahik for our clan, she must work with you as one, and i feel like i’m holding you back from finding a good mate”
Ao’nung pays attention to you, listening to your worries with furrowed brows, he’s so good to you, always. It makes your heart squeeze when you think of him being this affectionate with any other girl, you’re selfish, you want him to yourself.
As much as this hurts, you will be open with him, but you will not open your heart to him as of now. You sigh, he grabs your hand and his thumb rubs soothing circles, telling you to continue.
“i think.. i think re’yal is a beautiful girl, her parents are talented and she takes after them-“ you are cut off.
“i couldn’t care less for re’yal” you tilt your head in confusion
“na’yi is a good healer”
“she is a good healer.”
Ah. It’s Na’yi that he’s chosen then. You look up at him, unable to stop your head from moving. He smiles. Ouch.
“i have the stupidest girl sitting in front of me right now” you hit him gently in the chest, he catches your hand and intertwines his fingers with yours.
Woah. You’ve held hands multiple times but not this way. It feels different. You’re almost about to throw up.
Your eyes quickly drop down to his lips, god, you pray to Ewya that he doesn’t notice.
He does notice, and he thinks you’re so cute he could make-out with you right now.
“she’s so stupid but she’s also the prettiest, she’s really cute too, i think she’d make a great tsahik” you’re embarrassed now, what does this mean? why’s he such a jerk?
“i don’t think Na’yi wo-“
“tanhì, i don’t care about Na’yi, i do not want her.”
“Ao’nung.. allow me to help you, you cannot delay this anymore”
“y/n you just don’t get the hint do you?”
“what?”
Ao’nung groans frustrated, he looks around to see if anyone is watching, what he’s about to do right now might cause issues, he can’t find himself to care any longer though.
Ao’nung cranes his head enough so his lips are an inch away from yours, he looks at you with lidded eyes and you’re already looking at him
“let me kiss you” he asks and you don’t wait, you nod and he smashes his soft lips against yours, desperately. You’ve been wanting to do this, been wanting to kiss your bestfriend.
He grabs the back of your neck to deepen the kiss, damn, he’s a good kisser. Not that you’ve kissed anyone else before, but he’s making you feel really good.
It’s fast, and you both are desperate, impatient, and incredibly in love. He grabs your waist to pull you closer and you whine into the kiss. Sweet. He’s never loved a sound more. His confession comes between kisses.
“y/n, i want you,” kiss. “and only you.” kiss.
you pull away and you’re breathing heavily, you look at ao’nung, pretty sure your eyes have hearts in them. “i-“ you don’t know what to say.
“I see you” you whisper, only meant for him to hear, with sincere eyes.
Ao’nung looks at you and his lips twitch into a small smile.
He goes into kiss you again and your hands find their way behind his neck, he pulls back and trails a few kisses from your jaw to your neck, you gasp softly when he finds your sensitive spot and sucks on it, sinking his teeth into your soft skin, you’re so sure this is gonna leave a bruise.
He kisses you again but this time openmouthed, his tongue swiping against your bottom lip to ask for permission, you open your mouth more to let him in. “i love you so much” he whimpers into your mouth and you realize you wanna get out of here. Your feel yourself getting embarrassed as you realize the 4 girls probably saw your full on makeout session.
“what’s wrong baby?”
“lets get out of here ao’nung” you plead, doe eyes looking up at your lover. God, you make him crazy.
He takes your hand and leads you to his marui pod, you guys pass the 4 girls on your way there and by the look they’re giving you, you know they saw it, maybe even enjoyed it a bit. (jk) The girl’s eyes travel down to your neck where your fresh hickey lies and they immediately turn their backs around, unable to watch your love bloom any longer.
You laugh loudly and that causes ao’nung to turn around, your hands still intertwined as you giggle, ao’nung gets the hint on what you’re laughing at and smirks as he watches you, amused.
“bit mean, don’t you think?” he mocks you and you slap his arm, he throws that arm over your shoulder as you guys walk , the sound of your laugh rings in ao’nungs ears and he swears he’ll never love someone like he loves you.

To Y/n, it did not matter that the Metkayina had accepted her family as one of the people. Is this what it had to take? Her brother being ruthlessly killed by the sky demons to really prove their worth? If anything, it made her feel deeply ashamed - scorned.
Everything around Awa'atlu was a reminder of where he coexisted amongst you. The laughter you shared, the games you'd play with Tuk. The teasing and riding your Ilu's together. It played like an old record, jammed in the forefront of your mind.
That was why you couldn't fall back asleep, tonight the onslaught of harsh memories had demanded your attention. Taunting you, egging you on - what you have lost. What won't remain.
A frustrated huff fell from you in the silent darkness of your mauri. In the midst of your cuddle pile that your family rested in nightly, there was a gaping space left untouched. The one right beside you.
It was where he would reside once turning in for the night. These sleeping arrangements were still something you struggled to grow accustomed to. Even if fatigued gnawed at your eyelids, your heart refused to let you rest.
A faint yet distinct figure pushes themselves up from the pile then, Y/n squints her eyes as they start to make their way out of the mauri. They widen in recognition, it was her father. Where was he heading out to this late into the eclipse?
Ever so slightly she wriggles and attempts to maneuver out of Lo'ak's hold, the poor boy hadn't been able to disconnect from your side since the unfortunate day. Y/n knows he felt immense guilt for his actions that weren't even his fault.
But that was something else to worry about for another day.
As you mimic your dad's movements from moments ago, your head turns to look back at your family. Okay, good. None of them had awoken from their deep slumbers.
Whisking around, Y/n peeps out of their mauri. Heart thudding, but oh - there he is.
Jake had seated himself at a spot on top of the boat that had been gifted to your family after your father had been able to successfully ride a Skimwing. The same spot Kiri sat when she and their father shared a conversation, you had only witnessed the end of it. Unfortunately, you and Neteyam had to cut it short after dragging Ao'nung to them and demanding the idiotic boy, confess to his dumb shenanigans.
That was the day when you thought you were going to lose Lo'ak.
It's crazy how little you knew of back then.
Her heart felt so brittle, knowing it was also the spot that had become her and Neteyam's. After seeing it being used that day, it was where you two would go to have quiet intimate conversations. From your worries as the elder kids, or to any fun things that have occurred that day. The both of you had claimed it, but now it had been abandoned.
Y/n hadn't stepped foot close to its vicinity ever since….everything.
Taking a deep sigh to calm herself, she tiptoed over to Jake.
Nevertheless, Jake alert as ever immediately whipped around. Eyes holding something akin to being on the defense.
Raising your hands up in alarm, you whisper to him, "Dad, hey! It's just me, it's just me."
His mouth gapes as he slumped back down. His shoulders promptly drained away the sudden tension that had built up from the shock.
"Ah, 'ite. Sorry, you scared me. He spoke, but his voice sounded worlds away.
You peer down at him, he wasn't usually one to be scared.
"It is okay, sempul. I should have announced my presence. I'm the one who should be sorry."
He rasped out, "Stop apologising, you do not need to apologise!"
Her ears flatten then, folding themselves back. Y/n's tail lowly swishes in anxiousness at his rash tone.
"Sempul-" You said in a small panicky voice.
He hushed you, making you sit down by him. Jake brought you into his arms, holding onto you as tight as he could without harming you.
"I'm so sorry, sweet girl. I shouldn't have yelled at you." He continued to express his regrets quietly as he rocked you in his arms, chin pressed to the top of your head.
The luminescent ocean ceased its aggravated waves then as if to give you a tender moment of peace.
Jake chokes on his next words, and it makes you straighten up in an instant. There's a resounding affliction that lingers in the words that flow out of him like he'd been slammed back to earth.
"Losing a twin is far worse in comparison to losing your legs."
The cries saddle him then, and it pierces through your core. He's trembling a worrisome amount, cowering away from your imploring gaze.
You've never heard your father cry before. Not like this.
"Ngaytxoa, sempul."
It was something you'd only say in dire moments to drive the point home whenever you screwed up really badly. An admission of guilt, something that holds more weight than the sorry's you've been speaking back and forth to each other since the beginning of this encounter.
Jake knew this, far too well actually. It made him tense up.
You know the tales, the struggles he had to overcome when he was disabled. How much he loathed himself and the life earth had carved out and boxed him in. His brother's death was his calling to try to do something greater with his life.
Then he became a dream walker, a body that gave him far more solitude than he ever imagined. Jake never wanted to return to his human form due to how in tune he felt with his na'vi body.
The sentence he had just uttered made you frankly realise how burdening his grief must be for him.
His firstborn son, his hopes and dreams. His entire life. Neteyam was his boy. Jake's mighty fisherman, Jake's mighty warrior, Jake's solitude.
It all came at you in full force then.
The devastated man before you didn't even care about how worthless all the training for Neteyam becoming the future Olo'ekytan came to be. He came to terms with that once he made the tough decision for his family to leave everything they have ever known.
It paled in comparison to the remorse he felt for what he could have experienced with his son instead. That was something that bothered Jake to the bone. The fact that he would never be able to make up for the lost time with Neteyam.
He'd never be able to share a new moment with him again.
The duration of his fatherhood began with Neteyam, and a part of it sunk alongside his child when the sea anemone passed him on to the great mother.
Now you were all that remained of him, and Jake had never felt such immeasurable unsettled shame. His one duty as a father is to protect his children. To guide you through life, to aid you in whatever way was possible for him. Even with the tiny wiggle room you'd given him to do so, he tried his best.
For the first time with you though - his best was not enough.
Jake failed your family, and in doing so, he failed you.
His firstborn daughter, his pride and joy. His softness. You were his unbreaking glue, the one who kept him together. He couldn't utilise that this time, Jake did not deserve that.
Although he was a fool to think so cruelly because you were just like him.
He too was what remained of a bond so unwavering and mighty. A remnant of what could have been, what has been lost - and what is forced to stay.
While you never witnessed firsthand him experiencing that, he relived it through you and Neteyam. He admired you two graciously, seeing you both flourish amongst one another. How an attachment so noticeable and persistent, only grew in tandem over the years.
Wherever Neteyam and Y/n would be, they swiftly knew they were in the same proximity to each other. Y/n never had to look, she just knew it was him. Jake knows this because he nurtured you, taught you the ways of the people like Neytiri had done for him all those years ago.
Two peas in a pod, an impenetrable force. Each other's shadow, each other's light.
You both would always weave each other out of the darkness that bloomed in your minds every now and then. Conveying the importance of what life has to offer.
Forced to mature at a quicker pace than most kids your age, because the world you lived in demands it. Forced to learn the ways of war when your tiny hands could barely even wrap around a trigger of a gun.
He wasn't easy on you two.
Now more than ever, he wished he had been.
"Oh, dad." You mumbled, tears beginning to well up in your own eyes as you tug him back into another embrace.
There in his baby daughter's arms, he finally lets it all out. Somber wails ebb into your shoulder as you squeeze him, giving Jake some much-needed security. There, he allows himself to wallow in his grief, letting it finally catch up on him.
At the end of the day, he was a father who had lost one of his greatest accomplishments.
And you were his kid who lost two pillars in her life. Your home, and your twin. It was haunting you every waking moment, the thoughts of what you should be experiencing. What he should be doing.
It felt like the world was ridding Jake of all he has to live for, a repetition so caving and tumultuous.
"Now your kid has to really follow in your footsteps," is the dread that drills in his mind.
You didn't deserve this, once again he felt and harbored the most guilt. It was like he was watching Home Tree fall right before his eyes all over again.
It was all his fault, and without exception - always will be.
As if Y/n read his mind, and picked apart all that he currently is. The inner turmoils he had been forced to with had come to an all-time peak.
She soothed, "It's not your fault."
He sighs in return, "Y/n."
You shake your head, that same determination from when you were both trapped in the sinking ship flickering in your eyes.
"It is not your fault." You annunciate each word, each syllable.
You survey him, letting out a low scoff at his avoidant eyes.
"We cannot do this to ourselves. It cannot be mine, Lo'ak's, or your burden to keep. If we head in that direction, we'll meet that demon ship on the ocean floor."
Some of those words sink in with her as well, she knows she can't keep living like this.
Y/n realises that her words aren't resonating with Jake. The man before her was a shell of her father that could usually endure anything that came his way.
Jake was distraught, frantic for answers - why him? Why his family? Why Neteyam?
You survey your surroundings then, trying to see if you can knock him out of the reverie that has taken him by storm. You didn't want to be too abrupt with it, not wanting another abrasive reaction like before to happen.
All you see is the cerulean water.
Y/n lets her hands glide along the tide, cupping some in her hands only to then let it sprinkle over Jake.
He blinks at the sudden cold raining over him.
"Sorry, 'ite-"
"I think we should forbid that word from being mentioned for the rest of tonight."
Jake lets out a huff through his nose in response.
"Ma sempul, please. Look at me. You haven't properly done so since that night." You plead to him.
He gulps, gripping at the boat beneath him and letting his knuckles turn a stark white.
"I can't." He cries out, eyes squeezing shut in remorse and chagrin.
"Yes, you can. Come on, dad."
Shaky hands grab at his face, almost slipping at the sheer amount of tears that cascade like a ruthless never-ending waterfall.
His heavy eyes try to stay level with your arms that have reached out for his face.
Before finally, he looks at you.
A soundless sob rakes through him then, and in return, you shed a few of your own.
"I miss him, I miss him so much. I can't sleep, I can barely stomach anything. I can't properly take care of your mother, our family-"
His words stumble out of him at a rapid pace, but you do your best to soothe him as he tries to catch his breath through some sniffles.
"-I can't be a good father while navigating this grief."
Finally, he properly exhales. Releasing himself from the internal battles that had kept him restless all this time.
You pat his cheek in reassurance and fondness, "That's where you're wrong. You're being a good father right now."
He inhaled shakily, the waterworks returning to him at your genuine ways of trying to give him comfort. Jake is terrified though, he'd never been this vulnerable with you.
Maybe when you were a lot younger, yes
But life swept you both up, too invested in your own responsibilities. Back then there was time for your father-daughter extravaganzas. A time when he'd be able to take you out in broad daylight and let you go flying with him on his Ikran. Before the sky people returned, before Jake had to reassemble his war party and train them heavily again.
A time when being Olo'eyktan wasn't as demanding as it came to be.
Jake's hands grab onto yours, inevitable shame still coursing through him.
He should be the one comforting you, not the other way around.
But grief demands to be felt. It's not something you can outrun, it'll overtake you eventually.
You try to dispel some of his fears.
"It's okay right now to feel all these things, sempul. But we can't let it overrule us, we can't let it win."
Subconsciously, he squeezes your hand that still lingered on the apple of his cheek. There was an unsettling glimmer that still lay behind his eyes. Y/n knew then, there was a root he had yet to relinquish. There was still something brewing in his head that had been the biggest reason that he'd been kept awake these past few nights.
Y/n tilts her head, wordlessly questioning him. Beckoning Jake to reveal the mangled web that connected everything together.
His hands tremor once more, lips wobbling as he struggles to maintain his already fractured composure. The sight leaves a heavy weight on your heart, desperately wanting to know already so you could try to ease the pain.
After a moment's reflection, he speaks, "Every time I look at you, I'm so scared it's going to be the last time, 'ite."
Neteyam sighs from above you both then. Eywa looks at him, daring him to voice out his thoughts.
"They are so determined and hard-headed, great mother. You know, the people always said to us that I was more like sa'nok. But she was always a carbon copy of our sempul. Ugh, I miss them."
She hums in acknowledgment, the great mother already knowing this.
They both return to peer down at the two figures below them.
"I just can't. I won't lose you too." He reiterates then, mind clouded at the thought of losing you the same way you all lost Neteyam.
The sky people would cease to exist if they dares to do such an act.
"Sempul, mawey. I am not going anywhere. I am staying right here. I will always be here. He will always be here, I'm sure he is now."
Neteyam chuckles at that, how ironic.
He points to you excitedly, "see great mother, it's like this twin telepathy thing."
Y/n rests the palm of her hand against Jake's chest, where her dad's heart stills.
"I do not know what it feels like, to be a parent. But I know what it does feel like, to be your daughter. It is the greatest gift Eywa could ever give me, dad. I won't ever take that for granted, not anymore. You won't lose me, especially not like that." Your words hinted at a darker ending, one you dearly hoped you wouldn't be meeting anytime soon.
You'd do anything in your power to keep that promise to your father, it's the least you can do after all the trauma he has had to clamber through.
"Ma ‘eveng."
Y/n gives him a wistful smile, and he returns it with the most genuine grin you've seen ever since the passing.
It gave you a semblance of relief. Now having a true grasp of your father's mind as of late, Y/n couldn't help but feel repentant. It'll be alright though, time doesn't have to be kind to you. As long as you are with one another, you'll continue to help him in any way possible to fight his grief.
"Thank you, yawntutsyìp." Jake beams, and you know you don't have to say anything in return for him to see the gratitude you hold towards him.
You stand then, tugging at his hand for him to come with you.
"Come on old pal, let's get some much-needed sleep."
He scoffed, fingers darting to your sides and pinching them - "I'm not that old!"
Y/n giggles, leaning into him and hugging Jake's waist. He guides you back into the dark of your mauri.
Seeing your family all resting harmoniously gave you a newfound sense of hope. It'll take time to heal and grow from this, sure. But you're the Sully's.
You've made it through the utmost of hell, surely you can make your way back down.
Even if your inner demons continued to nag at your mind, - you stood by your stance then.
Y/n would do it all over again if it meant she could return back to her family at night. If at the end of the day - she can meet them, feel their presence with her. That was enough.
It gave her the greatest consolation that she still felt him then, her tsmukan. Her rey'eng.
Her reason to make it through another day.
Y/n's protector who will always and forever be mighty, Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk’itan.
He held his hand to his heart then. Neteyam would forever be indebted to Eywa, the boy appreciative that indeed - he could feel you too.

You paced in your kelku, your hand going to your stomach unconsciously as you thought about your mates and children being out there fighting those demons all by themselves, you couldn't just sit here on the shore and wait for them to come back, you knew the risk but you weren't about to let your mates be alone on the battlefield.
your twin watched as you dug a pit in the middle of your mauri as you paced back and forth, his eyes never leaving your worried form walking out of the kelku, as you called your ilu he stopped you "y/n…." He said softly, looking down at your abdomen and back up into your eyes but you shook your head "not now, te" was your only reply, instantly mounting your ilu and making your way towards the raging cold waters of the battle.
You were horrified to see the sight in front of you, the demon ship was crashed on the rock Island, people fighting and killing whoever in sight, your ears going flat against your forehead as you made your way towards the ship cautiously, the sky was dark and gloomy, sun setting down in the distance, the only light was from the fire that shone over the ship was from the explosion.
You climbed on the cold metal as the scene unfolding on the sinking dock made your blood run cold, Kiri in the grasp of that demon, his knife against her throat, Neytiri standing in front of them with her own knife against a human's chest, but a loud cry from tuk grabbed your attention as she ran into your arms "MAMA!!" you picked her up hurriedly.
Jake immediately pulled you behind him, his eyes wide in fear "what are you doing here?!" He whisper-yelled at you in concern, though you tried to answer but the na’vi looking man in demon clothes let Kiri go with a yell as Neytiri almost killed the human child in her grasp, a ruby red cut marred his chest now, Jake instantly pushed you behind him “stay behind” he ordered, tuk wrapped her arms around your neck, clinging onto your side, while burying her face in the crook of your neck and shoulder, Neytiri jogged back to you as she kissed your and tuk's foreheads, checking for any cuts and bruises “thank Eywa, are you okay, ma’yawne?” Her voice was strained from the fight, everything was happening too fast for her to comprehend “I’m okay… for now i guess” you answered back as the unease inside you grew, the only thing she knew is that she needed you and her family safe.
Walking away from the scene, Neytiri's arm around your waist as you carried tuk on your hip, the water filling in, breaths shivering out of everyone's lips, Kiri and the human child, Spider, walking behind you, your eyes going back to Jake as he fought the demon with all his might.
The distraction was enough as your foot slipped going straight into the open door of the sinking ship, the water sucking you in forcefully as tuk screamed in your neck, holding tightly as Neytiri yelled, wide eyed, holding onto your hand but the force was too great and her hold went slack, your body slamming onto the metal bottom with a loud ‘thud’, the water drowning out your cries for help as you struggled to keep tuk close to you, coughing and spitting out the salty water at the sudden impact but strong arms pulled you up, face to face with Neytiri, her hands wiping the water out of your eyes, pulling you and tuk close to her chest "oh eywa, thank you great mother" she whispered kissing you softly before pulling you through the tunnels of the ship, water pouring in heavily as tuk clinged to your hip once again, face buried in your neck "mama….I'm scared" Her voice quivering and shaking as you held her close, walking through the cold water "shhh we'll be okay, stay close to me, okay?" You whispered back with as much of a steady voice you could muster, her little nod was all you needed.
Falling and tumbling through the hallways and rooms, you were now trapped, the tunnel filling in will water, Neytiri held you and tuk close to her, your heart beating fast as you looked around the closed walls, ears flat on your skull, tail swaying as your body starts to tremble, the lights going out one by one making your heartbeat pace faster than rolling winds, your breaths getting cut short and Neytiri noticed your change in behavior, carefully making you look at her by hooking a finger under your chin "ma'y/n, mawey, tiyawn mawey" she whispered caressing your cheek, making you breathe evenly with her "it's okay, yawne, we will get out of this, we will" she whispered, looking in your eyes, her statement firm at the end, tuk looked at your disheveled state "mama, it will be okay" she said kissing your cheek to reassure you.
You tried to calm down but the fear reside, hands shaking, body trembling, head light as feather and bile rising up your throat, you knew something was terribly wrong, neytiri rubbed your back, whispering sweet nothings in your ear to distract you but the water levels were rising, though you were a water na'vi the rising water made you uneasy and nervous, the surface of it was now up to your necks, your breathes coming out in short puffs of air as you held tuk as High above as possible, the three of you huddled together, praying to eywa to get out of here when a sudden bright light filled the space, hundreds of glowing fishes swam towards your direction and soon kiri's head popped up at the end of the tunnel with a big squeal from tuk, happy to see her sister again, even with a smile playing on your lip you knew your state was getting worse and worse and Neytiri saw it as her arm was supporting your waist as she held you close to her.
Getting out of the sinking ship as your group broke the water surface taking deep, enriching breaths of air, reaching payakan slowly, Jake pulled you into his arms, hugging you tightly as his own breaths puffed up, but you couldn't care less, eyes drooping close as your body went limp in his arms, the stress from the confinement and war taking a toll on your body, the only sign of you being alive is your steady breathing and heartbeats thundering in your chest.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
Bright morning rays of the sun filled the entirety of your tent, the war was over but the tension in the environment was still the same, your unconscious body was lying comfortably on a mat, your twin and tsahik working together on getting you back in a conscious state, Kiri rubbing the sole of your feet to keep you warm, Neytiri was worried sick holding your hand in her’s as Ronal had a hand placed on your stomach as her eyes wide while pressing lightly around your abdomen to be sure of what she was feeling, te'yul cringed as he had promised you he'll keep it a secret until you decided it was the right time.
Ronal checked again just to be one hundred percent sure, Jake was pacing outside the tent with Neteyam, Lo'ak and spider trying to sneak inside, Kiri sitting near your feet, rubbing some warmth into them when Ronal looked at neytiri with a vexed expression "Did you know?" her voice angered and upset, Neytiri furrowed her non-existent eyebrows, a big question mark visible on her face "what?!" Ronal was fuming at this point "Did. You. Know?" This time Neytiri was taken aback and even Jake entered the tent from the anticipation of what's going on with Ronal’s raised voices at Neytiri and because his legs were aching from the amount of pacing he did outside, the couple were worried for their mate as you laid with your eyes closed "what's going on?" Jake asked carefully as he saw Ronal's enraged face and demeanor.
Te'yul came in between the budding argument, resting a hand on Ronal's shoulder to calm her down as he faced Jake and neytiri to see their confused expressions, he apologized internally to you for breaking your promise without your permission he was worried for all the reactions he’ll get after this, his tone was tuned down as he spoke "y/n is pregnant…..with twins"
»»————- ♡ ————-««
The whole sully family sat around your sleeping form, Jake's arms wrapped around Neytiri's shoulders comforting her as best as he could, tuk was laying beside you, hugging you close as she slept next to you, her little arms thrown over your torso, kiri, Neteyam, Lo'ak and spider huddled together as they watched you and tuk sleeping together, te'yul sitting in a corner as he worked on some pastes and herbs for you, preparing some syrups for your future symptoms of the pregnancy, waiting for you to wake up soon.
The word of your health spread throughout metkayina like wildfire, everyone's new topic of gossip was your pregnancy, of course this is the first time a child with both metkayina and omaticaya features would be born, that too not one but two babies at once, a miracle by eywa herself, though it was quite predictable given you were a twin and Jake was a twin as well, it was bound to happen.
After a week and a half of no sign of movement your eyes fluttered open, the soft rays of the sunset hitting your irises making them dilate and contract quickly, tuk saw you waking up first, as she refused to leave your side, and squealed running around telling everyone “MAMA WOKE UP! MAMA WOKE UP!” Te'yul immediately coming up to your side as Neytiri and Jake did, ignoring the fact that Jake almost ran over a kid to get to you, you didn't blame him for it, he was worried after all, Ronal was called as they all looked down at you, Ronal and Te'yul working on you as they tried to bring you back to your full consciousness, ronal with her ear pressed to your chest then to your stomach, Te’yul applying a soothing paste to the base of your throat, Jake on the other hand was a nervous wreck, he sent out a message to norm and team to come by, it's not like he didn't trust the metkayina healers or your own brother at that matter but for his own peace of mind.
A few hours later when everyone calmed down and with Te'yul forcing you to drink a bitter syrup with a "it's good for the babies'' which you had no idea what it did, now you were finally relaxing with your family, again the word of you waking up was all around the village but the Sully's didn't care, all they cared about is that you're awake, well and very much alive, Jake almost cried tears of relief when norm said everything was okay with you and your babies, for the family there wasn't anything more happier than you and the babies okay and healthy.
Now that the environment was much calmer not one of them was ready to leave your side, Jake and Neytiri were on your side, tuk cuddled into your chest, kiri in between you and Neytiri, Lo’ak in between Jake and you while Neteyam had his head snuggled on your stomach, being careful so he won’t “hurt” his new baby brothers or sisters, all of you were a tangled pile of limbs and love, Jake would lovingly give you a few kisses while Lo’ak who was in between grimaced and gagged at the sight, Neytiri chuckled and shook her head, snuggling close to everyone she gave tuk a small kiss on her temple as she slept on your chest, this was the best time for the family to be all together, at peace and happy as they all drift asleep as their love for one another floated in the air strong and radiant.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
~ 2 months pregnant ~
You were given complete bed rest for the time being and Neytiri was adamant on not letting you step out of the hammock let alone the mauri, constantly checking over you every two hours, bringing you fruits, soups, and whatnot.
Jake wasn't anything less than Neytiri was, he'd walk into your shared mauri with a worried expression. Run a hand over your slightly swollen belly, give you a kiss on your forehead and if you were awake he’d bombard you with questions for several minutes on end “are you feeling okay, babygirl?” “Do you feel nauseous?” “Does your stomach hurt? Does your back hurt? I can give you a massage if you want”
he’d pestered continuously back and forth in his visits throughout the day, he was worried as twin pregnancies are rare in na’vi, plus the babies being half omaticayan and half metkayian, it added more tension to his growing worry day by day as the pregnancy progressed.
“ma’Jake, I’m fine! I’m pregnant, not dying!” you spoke with a hint of annoyance tracing your voice after his 1000th query of your health and it's not even complete 2 months yet “baby, i know that, but you’re pregnant with MY twins and I’m worried, so its better you answer those questions to me, tiyawn” he whispered in your ear and planted a soft kiss on your temple, you knew there was no escaping his sweet slick words.
Neytiri and the kids were nothing less than Jake, tuk was glued to your side, being the youngest she was mesmerized by your belly and happy that she won’t be the youngest anymore, while neteyan, being used to seeing his mom pregnant with his siblings before, he was just the gentleman to you as his father, always making sure if your comfortable or not, bringing in fresh fruits and meat for you, placing his head on your belly to hear the babies’ heartbeats, while Lo’ak did his best to keep up with the fact that he’s getting not just one but TWO new siblings at the same time, poor boy would cling to you and ask if you’d love him and the others less because you’re getting your own babies now, you’d hold him tight in your arms and reassure him that you’d love him just as much as before and the others, that the babies won’t change it as he opens up to you “mama, i still want to spend our swims together after this” he’d whisper hugging you “of course we will, you and i will have lots of fun once i have your siblings, i’ll even take you to my favorite place” a smirk dancing on your lips as you reassured him and pressed a kiss on his head.
Spider was nervous and intrigued by everything about you, not having met you before he was a little scared if you’d accept him, though Neytiri was reluctant to let him be anywhere near you, she quickly backed down when you reassured her that it was okay, your warm and welcoming smile was enough to let him feel at ease, he grew more attached to you day by day, looking up to you like a mother he never had, you didn’t expect yourself to as protective of him, not knowing whether it was your pregnancy or because he was so small compared to others, you were protective of him immediately.
“Spider, why don’t you sit with me? I’ll put your hair up for you” you’d say with a loving voice he couldn’t ignore, but there was a hint of worry too, he didn’t know the way of the water and you didn’t him to be hurt plus it was nice to have some company, He’d comply every time you asked him though, he wasn’t about to refuse some head pets from you, it’s not even been a few months living with you and he was already calling you ‘mom’ which surely melted your heart every time he called you that “coming, sa’nok” he’d say before coming right up to you with a hug or cuddles, it was his favorite thing to do now, he still kept in mind about your belly before doing so.
Jake was happy to see you and him bonding together, he was nervous on how neytiri would react but it surprised him how quickly she backed down when you asked her to, still he was happy about the fact that spider was finally getting the love and attention he deserved.
~ 6 months pregnant ~
The babies were growing and thriving, while also leaving you at the mercy of their cravings, the night shone bright, the chirping of the creatures outside weren’t doing anything to put you back to sleep, Jake and Neytiri were on your sides sleeping peacefully while you laid awake, mouth watering with the thought of tasting utumauti at such ungodly hour, you looked at jake who was snoring softly, one arm wrapped around your swollen middle while you were using his other arm as a pillow, his bioluminescent freckles glowing bright in the darkness as he slept.
“ma’Jake, wake up…. Please” you whispered to him as you couldn’t help yourself now, you needed to taste it, midnight or not, instead of him Neytiri woke up as she looked at your attempts to wake him “do you need anything, paskalin?” her voice was soft yet rough from the sleep which startled you a bit, now you were a bit embarrassed to say that you were hungry even after eating a big dinner “ohh tiri… it’s just… um i wanted some utumauti” she chuckled getting up from the hammock “that’s it? You could have asked me sooner, ma’txelan” she said pressing a kiss on your temple before heading outside to get some for you.
In a few minutes she was back with quite a few Utumauti in her arms, keeping silent as she cut them up in cubes while you sat beside her near the fireplace, everything was quiet, all the kids and the village sleeping, the only sounds that could be heard were Jake’s snoring, creatures chirping, waves crashing outside while you munched on the fruit pieces.
“Is that good or do you need more?” her voice was sweet and filled with love as she watched you eat, her hand caressing your back gently, you shook your head “No, this is enough, thank you” your giggle bringing a smile on her face as you had already eaten at least five utumauti by now, she didn’t mind though, she’d bring the whole damn tree if you asked her.
When jake turned in the hammock and felt both you and neytiri out of place, he woke up to the sight of you and Neytiri sitting close together while you satisfied your midnight cravings, she had her arms wrapped around your midsection, he felt a warm feeling build up inside his chest at the scene in front of him, though he wasn’t a part of it, he was still content and happy to just witness it, going back to sleep while the memory played in his mind and a smile lingered on his lips.

The twins could now move and kick very well, which also made all the sully’s take turn and sit in front of you with their hands on your growing belly, Jake was the most persistent one as he still didn’t get to feel the baby while everyone else felt one or both the babies move or kick, even Rotxo had his turn fulfilled and Jake didn’t, which frustrated the hell out of him.
“Ma’Jake, you can’t force the babies to move if they don’t want to” you spoke as you and Neytiri were holding back your laughs so you wouldn’t frustrate him even more “but they moved for everyone else!” he said in almost a whiny voice as he removed his hands from your stomach.
Your stomach, that now held your twins with a beautiful curve to it didn’t show any movement, he let out an exasperated sigh with a frown looking at your belly, Neytiri decided to tease him more “maybe the babies love their sa’nok and sa’nu more” she said with a smirk as she placed her hand on the top of your belly and to everyone's surprise one of the babies moved under her touch as if agreeing with her, Neytiri in result bursted out laughing not able to hold in any longer, Jake on the other hand frowned even more as you tried to comfort him while trying not to laugh yourself as he crossed his arms across his chest “they’re not even born and they already don’t like me” which only caused Neytiri to laugh more and Jake to roll his eyes at her, you were now stuck with a sulking Jake and overjoyed Neytiri “they will move for you jake, give them some time, sayrip” you said with a smile as he sulked.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
You were having a particularly hard day walking around, back strained, legs and ankles swollen, Jake was the one overlooking you as Neytiri was out for once after being cooped up with you for the period of the entire pregnancy, she went out fishing to try new things, the kids were out as Tsireya invited them the night over at their mauri and Jake couldn’t be more happier to have you all for himself all day and then with Neytiri at night, once again you were restricted to the hammock but this time you were grateful for it, the nap was treating you well after all those sleepless and restless nights, Jake, on the other hand, was preparing a meal for when you wake up, as the day went on you woke up with a slight pain in your abdomen, dismissing it as you got up.
Eating with Jake in a peaceful silence when the pain was getting harder to ignore, your hand instinctively moving towards his hand as a dull yet sharp pain went through your abdomen, which definitely caught Jake's attention “darling, you okay?” his eyes going wide in alarm as he grabbed onto want just happened, forgetting all about the food as he connected the dots, the sudden tiredness, unusual cramps, constant back pains, it was clear you were going into labor, he knew the signs after three times with Neytiri, getting to your side as his rough calloused hand caressed the side of your head “shhh it’s gonna be okay, don’t panic, stay calm and breath okay? I’ll call Ronal and your brother, stay here!” he whispered soothingly as you caught onto the moment and nodded this was it…..you are going to give birth.
After waiting for jake to come back, you were on all fours as you felt the first of the contractions coming which were in no way pleasant, they immediately got to work, easing you in a more comfortable position as the pain and adrenaline starts to kick in, Jake getting behind you as he rubbed your back, kissing your forehead “there you go, hold onto me and relax, deep breathes remember?” he whispered directly in your ear as he tangled his hand in your hair but only one thing ran through your mind “Call Neytiri!! I can’t do this without her!! I want tiri” your cries were heard as someone was sent to get her.
She came running and stumbled back to your shared mauri, bursting through the flaps dropping her bow and arrows in an instance as she got to you “I’m here, I’m here syulang” she said encouragingly as she kissed your forehead, her breaths were quick and short but she didn't care, you were her first priority and the babies, that’s all she cared about.
You were kneeling on the woven flooring of the mauri, your breaths coming in short puffs of air, cheeks red and wet from the efforts as Jake supported you from behind and neytiri was kneeling in front of you, gently caressing your contracting abdomen, kissing your temple lovingly as they both tried to comfort you through the pain, tears flowing down your cheeks as your head was buried in neytiri’s shoulder.
“tiri, it hurts so much, i can’t do this ahh please ughh'' your whimpers were painful for her to hear, she ran a hand through your hair, kissing the top of it “it’ll be over soon, paskalin, you can do this just hold on a little longer” her whispers of reassurance did wonders to calm you down but the contractions that racked your womb pulled another scream of pain from your throat.
you rocked your body back and forth to soothe the pain holding onto neytiri for dear life “ohhh GREAT MOTHER! Why does this have to hurt so much!!!” your cries ringing through the mauri and te’yul let out a chuckle.
“i told you so, it's your fault that you decided to get pregnant and-” a loud groan from you shuts him up “shut the fuck up for moment, you skxwang! I didn’t ask for your opinion right now! I swear to eywa I’ll-” your rant was stopped by Jake as he made you look at him with his finger under your chin, though everyone was surprised at your outburst.
“easy, easy there, sweetheart, take a deep breath with me, i know it hurts but you have to calm down for the babies'' he whispered looking down in your ocean blue eye that now welled up with tears, holding your hand in his as he ran the pad of his thumb over your knuckles then glared daggers at te’yul for his remark while you're twin just shrugged.
you groaned not having the patience to go through all this, Ronal hits te’yul upside his head with a quick reprimand about not to rile a laboring woman, you groan loudly, throwing your head back on jake’s shoulder as you squeezed his hand in a vice like grip while bearing through the contraction “I hate you jake! You did this to me! I hate you so much” you cried, eyes screwed shut in pain, your grip on his hand so tight it sprained his wrist but he didn’t dare to utter a single word against it as he saw the amount of pain you were in was way greater than his sprained wrist, he smiled “I’m sorry, sweetheart, now please concentrate” he whispered, not taking your comments to heart, Neytiri chuckled kissing your forehead and looked at Jake with a smile, she yelled the same things to him while giving birth to Neteyam, Lo’ak and tuk so he was now used to it by now, he didn't mind being the punching bag, verbally and physically.
“Its okay, ma’tiyawn, you can blame him, it's his fault anyways” she said with a smile, adding fuel to the already blazing fire while Jake rolled his eyes at her trying to distract you from the pain as much as possible, but you weren’t in the mood to smile or laugh as the contractions were numbing your thought process.
Ronal had a worried look on her face “let her speak what she want, it's better she if lets it out” as she came up to the three of you with a bowl of dark green liquid in it, kneeling down beside you she brought the bowl to your lips “drink this, child, you’ll feel better, let your body do its thing, do not hold back” you drank the, for once, sweet liquid in two gulps, you tried to relax but it was easier said than done.
Neytiri and Jake did their best to calm you down through your screams of agony, the liquid will take a few minutes to show effect but when it does the moan of relief you let out is louder than any scream you let out before, which earned another fit of chuckles from te’yul while Ronal glared at him this time, even Jake couldn’t hold back his smile at that, you placed your head on Neytiri’s shoulder again as she rubs your back lovingly while Jake holds his hand on your hip, the other sprained one was still being used as a stress ball by you, even while you were in such immense pain te’yul couldn’t help but smile, you were his sister, yes, but he’ll also make puns about this moment when all of this is over.
Ronal walked over to Neytiri as she placed a hand on your shoulder “i think we should go to the hot water springs, the warm water would help her a lot” she said sympathetically looking at your worn out and exhausted state and both Jake and Neytiri nodded in agreement.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
Your twin and Ronal were both working on getting the place ready to help you through the birth but that was still a long way ahead, Jake carried you in his arms bridal style to the springs, your eyes closed, mind clouded with pain as soft mewls left your lips while your nails dug into his shoulder and arms, reaching the pond he slowly lowered your body into the warm water, the liquid immediately helping with the soreness and subside the pain to some extent.
Jake got behind you, once again giving you support to lean on, your body was already drenched in cold sweat before, the beads of water and sweat ran down your skin, Neytiri got into the water as well, standing in front of you as she caressed your cheek, giving you a sweet kiss on your lips as your face scrunched up in agony from the new contractions “shhh you’re nearly there, yawne, just a little more and you’ll meet your babies, breathe ma’txe’lan breathe, in and out” she whispered stroking your swollen stomach and rubbing your back, Jake kissed the nape of your neck “you’re doing so good, sweetie, we’ve already gone through the first half of it, this is the last stretch, i know you can do it” their words of encouragement gave you motivation to push through it, head rolling back on his shoulder, by now you didn’t have it in you to scream anyways, Exhaustion was taking its toll on your body, the soft groans and tears that were rolling down your already wet cheeks were the only signs of your ongoing suffering.
Ronal checked your dilation as Neytiri wiped the sweat and tears from your face and neck, helping you drink some water to keep you hydrated while going through such painful period which she was familiar with but even the simplest act of drinking a sip of water was difficult with the oncoming waves of contractions in your womb, new batch of tears stream down your cheeks as Neytiri wiped them away gently.
Her’s and Jake’s faces were twisted in a frown as they hated to even see you get a scratch let alone to see you writhe in pain like this was making them worried sick by the passing second, Neytiri’s hands massaged your hips to loosen any tense muscles to help the parturition even more, another intense pain ripped through your abdomen as you grit your teeth against it, eyes shut tightly in pain, lips pressed in a thin line and Jake couldn’t see you in pain anymore “okay, this is enough…” he whispered as he brought his queue forward and connected it yours, Ronal tried to say otherwise but the decision was made, Neytiri following suit connecting with the two of you, the full force of the pain now washing over them, Neytiri was accustomed to it by now but still shuddered at the sudden rush of feelings and even when Jake had assisted Neytiri with all her births like this but the feeling of the pain was always unexpected for him.
Now with the queues connected they held you, gently caressing and massaging your body to ease you in any possible way, you felt their calming thoughts filling your mind as your braids connected together "you can do it, tiyawn, just push through it, Love, everything will be over soon, it will be all worth it" Jake's whispers of affection and comfort falling over deaf ears when the first of the twins started to make an appearance resulting in your roars of pain and clutching Jake's already sprained wrist as the first baby started to crown.
Ronal held your legs apart, Neytiri caressed your face and neck, while Jake ran his hand down on your waist as your sobs were clearly heard through the pain "We understand, syulang, we understand, now please push as hard as you can, zola' u niprrte nga prrnen" Neytiri said calmly, guiding you through the pain to push and encourage to bring these children to life.
Hot tears rolled down your cheeks as you gave a push "ngghhhh get them out!!" Your screams of desperation were heartfelt for everyone who heard them, Neytiri's face was full of concern as you screamed "shhh just push the best you can, you want to see them right? You can't give up now that you're so close….i know it hurts, yawne, i know but you can't lose everything when you're so close, push one more time, for us, for the babies" she whispered softly as you stare at her with a tear soaked face, snort running down your nose as sweat dripped down your scalp, the water washed over to your chest giving you an effect of weightlessness, with a new kind of determination take over your body, you began to push.
The saying childbirth is the worst pain anyone can experience was really starting to become very clear to you now, you grit your teeth taking a deep breath and pushed but soon turned into a scream and then a sob, the burning sensation was too overwhelming, even taking a breath felt like a laboring act, Ronal held your hand gently in hers “shh calm down, calm down… breath, y/n, breath”
She guided your hand between your thighs, letting your fingers brush against the baby’s head, you stared at her as your expression went from pained to one of awe and longing, the fact that you were so close to meeting your babies, ignited a deep urge to keep going no matter how bad the pain was, after taking a moment to catch up, you beared down with the next contraction, eyes shut tightly, toes curled up as you screamed head bowed down, jake held your hand while you squeezed it, his other arm holding you in place, Neytiri rubbed your back soothingly.
Ronal cupped the crowning head of the baby with her hand when finally the head slipped out followed by your groan, now the time ticked, you had to push to get the shoulders out soon with the next contraction, she urged you to push again, tugging on the baby gently with the next push as your whole body trembled from the effort as the baby’s shoulders passed through the canal with the final push, Ronal and te’yul immediately took the newborn to clean up, your breaths becoming shallow while Neytiri smiled caressing your cheek “there, that’s it, you’re okay” she whispered leaning her forehead against yours.
Jake stroked your waist kissing your forehead gently “good girl, very good, one down one to go” he said softly, currently looking absolutely proud of you as he placed several kisses on your head, tears forming in his eyes “I’m so proud of you, you did so good, just a little more, sweetheart” his words were spoken from shere love and appreciation.
Neytiri was looking at you with just as much pride as jake, patting your cheek when finally a piercing cry rang through the air, grabbing all your attention, the cry was mighty enough to make your heart sore but the pain wasn’t done yet, Ronal coming back in front of you as she held you by your shoulders “a little more and it's done, push when you feel like” but exhaustion made you feel like your head was underwater, even being in the hot spring wasn’t helping that much, head rolling back on Jake’s chest, only getting out of the daze when the burning sensation came back in the nether regions, blinking back your tears as you pushed, this was relatively easier than the first and the second twin came out faster than you expected, which was more than a big relief.
In the most fastest few minutes of your life, Ronal and Neytiri held your daughters in their arms as Jake held you tired body in his, admiring the sight in front of him “You did it, sweetheart, You did it, you’re absolutely wonderful” he whispered as your ears twitched from his warm breath, your tail swishing underwater, a tired smile on your face as you stared at your newborn daughters, your own daughters and you couldn’t be more proud “go ahead, name them sweetie” he said proudly as he caressed your arm and neytiri nodded along “you should name them, paskalin”
After thinking for a few minutes, you came up with a pair of names you thought were the best “Pe’rul and Peyal” your voice strained and rough but the emotions behind it melted everyone's heart as they all agreed that those were good names “those are beautiful name, tiyawn” neytiri said as she brought peyal closer to you and jake and ronal nodded as well, ronal swam forward as well both the babies went quiet as they were laid on your chest, going silent as they felt their mother’s touch, it was a beautiful sight for all of them while te’yul cheered and howled in happiness in the background as he was officially an uncle now as Ronal now carefully bandaged Jake’s sprained wrist while you gave him a apologetic smile in return he just chuckled and pecked your forehead.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
A few weeks have passed since the day of arrival of the twins, the happiness of the clan was quadrupled as the babies were the most miraculous things they have witnessed, azure skin like Jake and Neytiri but soft ocean blue eyes and teal stripes like yours, the combination made the pair look blessed by Eywa herself, lanky and long tails like the omaticaya but slightly broader with a tuft of hair at the tail ends, seemingly they were the most beautiful babies to be seen on the land of metkayina.
If Jake and Neytiri weren’t overprotective before now it was like being smothered in their love, which was more overwhelming than anything, and boy oh boy did Neytiri took care of you after the birth, knowing damn well how down and depressed a new mother can feel after the birth, she did everything in her power to keep you happy, making necklaces, shawls, blankets, tops for you everyday, kissing your postpartum belly, all the stretch marks, massaging your back, making your favorite foods, pampering you in any way possible, she made sure to make you feel like a queen.
While Neytiri takes care of you, Jake and the kids are on the duty to take care of the twins, and eywa bless him, he’s taking that job very seriously, now father of seven, including spider, he was almost delirious at the amount of children he has, to think at one point in his life he gave up hope to ever have the joy of a family of his own and to now with two mates and seven children, oh how things have changed, for good this once.
Overjoyed was an understatement for Neteyam and the gang, two little baby sisters? You bet the protection levels are through the clouds, may the great mother help the person who even looks or breathes at the twins in a wrong way, Kiri held Peyal with the most widest grin possible, while Neteyam held Pe’rul as if she was the most precious thing on pandora and as of now she was, Lo’ak and tuk were in their thoughts as how he won’t be the only middle child and tuk was happy as she won’t be the youngest anymore, for spider, the more siblings the better.
Uncle te’yul made the first song chords for the babies as gift which you then attached it to the band of their tewng, adding a pearl as the memory of their birth to your song chord as well, right next to the bead Jake gave you which symbolized your mating with the couple, plus adding two similar pearls on the twins song chords as a symbol to the start of their journey in this new and amazing world.
The whole family huddled together. You in the middle, Jake and Neytiri on your sides as the twins laid on top of you, Lo’ak and spider beside Jake while Neteyam and Kiri were beside Neytiri, tuk was sandwiched between you and Jake but she didn’t mind, as everyone’s attention was on the newest members of the family while they slept on your chest, Neytiri caressed your cheek and jake went a step ahead, pecking your lips sweetly “we are so proud of you, txe’lan” Neytiri nodding in agreement as all of the others groaned and fake gagged at the public display of affection, tuk and Kiri just giggled, Neteyam laughing his ass off with a loud “Gross” from Lo’ak and spider while you, Jake and tiri burst out laughing, love floated in the air, it was a beautiful beginning, which you'll cherish forever.

Hey bby! I’m just gonna come on here to request because I love the way you write Neteyam it has me kicking me feet oml.
Can you write a fic where metkayina reader has healing powers that are gifting by eywa, and she uses them to save Neteyam during the final battle? you can decide their dynamic and relationship if u want. if not that’s okay u can ignore this xx
don't blame me
pairing neteyam x metkayina! fem reader summary you were always rational, calm, and gentle. like eywa blessed you with all her tranquility. you always knew you had a purpose in life and that was to be a healer, the next tsahik. the great mother gave you the gift to do so and you never went against death because you knew it was meant to be. but what happens when the person you deared most has his door knocking by death? tags & warning reader has healing powers, reader is tonowari & ronal's eldest daughter, only younger than neteyam by 3 months, lots of descriptions than dialogue (bare with me pls), blood, hints of death index paysyul [water lily], tsaheylu [bond/neural connection] word count 1.6k
teyamsilly speaking ✩ there will be two more parts to this: part two & an alternate ending! there's more descriptions in the beginning describing reader, then reader and neteyam's relationship. dialogue will come later on! hope you'll like it <3
PART ONE | PART TWO | ALTERNATE ENDING
How Ronal found out she was pregnant with you was magical to her. She didn't have any problems with giving birth and it wasn't painful at all. She felt as if she was having trouble breathing and questioned whether there were troubles since you weren't weeping and crying the moment you were born. But to her surprise, your eyes glowed a brighter shade of blue momentarily as you gave her a wide gummy smile.
She knew you were gifted ever since your injuries would heal themselves. She took it as a sign from Eywa that you were next in line for Tsahik, that you would interpret her will.
The tasks given to you came naturally for you. You've executed the duties of a Tsakarem excellently, not only that, you were loved by the clan. You were always rational, calm, and gentle like the great mother blessed you with all her tranquility.
Ronal had never thought that your gift could be extended to another living thing. One time, a few ilu's came back injured from escaping an akula. They filled the water arround them with blood, screeching for help. Immediately, you went to them and cried like you could feel their pain.
As you created tsaheylu with one, your hands gently carressed the chopped fin with tears slipping from your eyes. You surprised everyone when you took your knife and made a deep cut on your palm, then placed it on the ilu's open wound. The skin covered itself.
However, your gift came with a price. Using your blood meant losing your blood, it resulted you to lose consciousness from the loss of blood. Tonowari and Ronal decided that your ability to heal others should never be used again, so you didn't.
Your mothers next words would ring in your head everytime you see an injured na'vi or animal: "She protects the balance of life. She does not take sides. What happens is meant to happen, ma'ite."
Neteyam Sully knew you were one of a kind when he saw you pass through crowd effortlessly with curious eyes as you observed each of his family when they arrived at Awa'tlu. Your eyes were nothing like he had ever seen before. Jewelled blue eyes that seemed to shimmer with every tilt of your head. He couldn't stop his tail from jouncing gently when your eyes met. He was sure that your eyes glowed before it's shine died.
When he heard the story from Tsireya of your birth and your miracle powers, he was at awe. It was obvious that you were in sync with Eywa and her creatures. And the way you walked, hips swayed, looked so graceful. It didn't surprise him that Kiri was quick to be cosy with you as she loves nature just as much.
Neteyam never had the opportunity to have a proper conversation with you since you are never present in their lessons because of your duties. The only time the two of you had a proper interaction was when Tsireya introduced them to you. When his name rolled of your tongue, he felt like he was in a trance with how soft your voice was.
Your smile was something he would never get tired of, ever. Since then, whenever you two made eye contact, you just smiled at each other. He would sometimes stare at you with the intention of being caught. When you noticed him looking at you, he flashed you a boyish grin and tilted his head. Blood would rush to your cheeks making you look away. You swore you could hear his chuckle.
Neteyam would look for you after lessons, but you were always snatched away with another duty whenever he would try to make his move. But you couldn't be that busy, would you? Unless you were actively avoiding him. Tsireya would reassure him that you were being kept busy with your mother and how your attention was always needed in the healers' marui.
Lo'ak would suggest jokingly (not really) that he should get injured on purpose just to feel the carress of your hands touching his skin whilst adding smooching sound effects to tease him. Kiri would smack the back of his head afterwards for his stupid idea. Neteyam felt even more stupid for considering his brother's words.
Until the opportunity rose itself. Ao'nung held a small gathering– a party as Lo'ak called it– that night for na'vi his age. It was kept hidden from the adults because he knew that his parents would never approve of this, especially when he brought alcohol that he shouldn't be drinking because he is not of age yet.
You, the golden child of Ronal and Tonowari, never told on him. You loved how you get to worry about your tasks for a while and being surrounded with your peers.
Neteyam couldn't take his eyes off you. You were glowing, you always were, but it felt different for him today. You were smiling with your group of friends until one of them nudged your arm and pointed his direction. He quickly looked away and acted as if he was staring at the fire that served as the gathering's source of light. He scolded himself internally for acting like a coward. All the courage he collected to speak to you just left him.
"Neteyam?"
The forest boy spun around too quickly for his liking with his eyes wide. Your name stuttered from his lips.
You chuckle, "Hi. Are you enjoying yourself?"
He nodded, "I did not think Ao'nung had such drinks." He shook the wooden cup on his hands before looking at you. It seems to be his most favourite thing to do, just having you in his line of vision.
"Hmm… my brother does not have the knowledge for this. To make a drink like this, you have to take paysyul that lives outside the reef. Take the petals off and then squeeze the ovary."
Neteyam's eyebrows furrowed, then it relaxed when he realised. He scoffed as a smirk presented on his lips. "This is your doing? That is impossible."
You laughed, "How come?"
"Because you…" He stared at you with adoration, his smile never leaving his lips. And since then, Neteyam knew you were full of surprises. He was driven to get to know you even more.
Everyone started to notice how close the two of you have gotten. Imagine the surprise Kiri and Lo'ak had when the eldest Sully child didn't come for their lesson and found him with you instead. He stayed with you in the healers' marui just to spend time with you.
They would notice how Neteyam's hand would rest on your lower back as you two would walk around Awa'tlu. How your gaze would linger on him longer. How one of your accessories consist materials from the forest. How Neteyam would intertwine your hands together to pull you away from something. How Neteyam's tail would swish excitedly at the sight of you.
Everyone noticed it.
Your time with Neteyam made you think that his arrival here was not a coincidence but destined by the Great Mother herself. You cant imagine living your life without Neteyam anymore. He somehow made a permanent mark in your life and you cant move on from something strong like that.
Maybe this excuses your reckless behaviour. Maybe this is why Neteyam met you, because you could save him. Maybe it's why you didn't hesitate to sit beside his panting figure, reaching for his kuru immediately when you spotted the wound on his chest that didn't stop bleeding.
"Save him, please!" Lo'ak begged. Your eyes remained on his kuru, tears flowing out of your eyes endlessly. "I know this is a big move, a-and I know there could be consequences. But please save my brother, please," he croaked out.
His cry for help was unnecessary because you knew you would do it either way. The boy you love is dying in front of you. The sight of him scared and panicked, panting for breath made you sob.
Jake watched with curious eyes as you created tsaheylu with his son. He's heard stories of your 'powers' but never seen them first hand. He remembered from Tonowari that healing any living creauture with your ability was dangerous, therefore was never used again. Yet he couldn't bring himself to stop you not when you could save his first child.
This was not how the bond should feel like, it was not how you wished for it to happen. You could only feel the pain on his chest and how his body is struggling to breathe for air. Neteyam could feel himself losing it, and you felt it too. You quickly took his dagger, tearing the skin of your palm apart making the wound deep.
Blood gushed out immediately as you pressed your hand against his wound immediately. You groaned feeling your energy being taken away from you. Neteyam stopped struggling for air, his eyes starting to feel heavy,
Lo'ak panicked at this. "What? What's wrong?"
"It's okay, he will live," Tsireya reassured. She watched how the eldest Sully fall into slumber, his chest now heaving up and down peacefully. The girl noticed how your body started to lean forward, eyes unfocused. She gasped when your eyes rolled back as you fell unconscious. "Sister!"
Jake caught your body before it could fall over on Neteyam. He and Tsireya gently laid your body beside your now muntxatan. Tsireya separated both of your kuru slowly.
Her eyebrows furrowed when the freckles on your cheeks started flickering on and off. The cut you made on your skin isn't healing. The wind arround them passed strongly. Your body turned pale, but heart still beating.
Eywa gave you a gift, but it came with a price.

Hi, can you do hc’s of ellie having a crush on/dating a friendly and outgoing girl ❤️
a/n: hey, im taking time today to get to my inbox and write for ellie my beloved… i feel a lot more confident now given that i am just ab finished with part one of the game but still, reserving my time for writing! so send requests, i have a few but still 🫣 anyways, thank u anon ilu
ellie is such an ambivert so whenever she’s around someone more introverted she’s determined to pull them out of their shell, but when she’s around you, an obvious extrovert, she can feel herself drawing inwards
she first noticed you on her first day in jackson and found herself dumbstruck as she watched you tell what seemed like an interesting story to a group of people your age. they all seemed so entranced, and ellie couldn’t lie, she was too.
she felt like such a stalker after that day, writing down your name in her journal with small doodles of your face and side profile. the way you so effortlessly drew people in, how you made everyone feel welcome and included, everything about you left her in a daze.
quickly after arriving she fell in with dina and her group of friends so she would find herself sneaking out at night to drink and play games in dina’s basement.
to her suprise, you were there. not to her suprise, you were there with a guy, and whatever hope she had of ever being with you was crushed. you didn’t even look like you liked the guy, she thought, as she watched you subtly push his hand away from your face.
later that night ellie cornered dina to ask her about you, the one drink in her system showing itself suddenly.
“what do you know about yn?”
dina snorted. “what, do you have a crush on her?” it was meant to be a joke, at this point ellie had not made it clear that she was into girls, but when dina saw the way her face faltered she completely changed her tune.
“oh shit, you do!”
“shut up, i do not.”
“well, get in line.”
“you have a cr-?” ellie was confused.
“what?! no, but practically every guy here does, she never pays them any mind though.” she said gesturing to you, again as you looked completely uninterested in the guy in front of you.
“oh.” was all ellie could say.
from that day on she interacted with you infrequently, occasionally having short conversations with you during class where her cheeks would burn a bright red whenever you laughed
plus, her crush went away for a while when she had a fling with cat. but as soon as that was over she was right back to stealing glances at you at community events
so here she was, harboring a four year crush on someone who didn’t even know who she was, it felt pathetic
it all came to a head when she started getting assignments around the town and was paired with you in the stables
she was shocked when you greeted her with a wide smile on your face
“hey! ellie, right?”
“yeah,” ellie let out a breathless laugh “you know my name?”
“town’s not that big, ellie.” you laughed as you watched her cheeks grow red like they always did when she spoke to you
since you could talk to a brick wall it was no shocker that you and ellie talked throughout your entire assignment
everytime elle would make you laugh she would feel so accomplished even though a part of her knew you were just being nice
after that day ellie practically begged maria to put her on the stables with you, even going as far as to say she would take two assignments a day if she just got to do the one with you
you were so good at making her feel comfortable, and a part of her felt like you were flirting with her half the time, but her insecurities got the best of her
soon enough you were inviting ellie everywhere… to secret parties, to show her a flower you found growing behind the stables, and even just to get a sandwich with you at the tipsy bison
ellie knew that you were nowhere close to hers but she couldn’t help but get jealous when she would see how well you interacted with others… she knew it was your nature but it still burned
whenever she would see you laugh a little too hard at a joke she wanted to turn around and throw up, but she didn’t… the sound of your laughter was peace enough
one night she decided to walk you home and after she had finished saying good bye you reached up and kissed her
she was so dumbstruck that she just stared at you, and how beautiful your eyes looked with the snow catching on your eyelashes. she was so wrapped up in your beauty and by the taste of your lips still on hers that she didn’t even recognize the horror that was painted so clearly over your face
“shit.. ellie i am so sorry, i don’t know why i did that. i thought there was something between us but i so clearly misread that and i shouldn’t have assumed just because of cat that you would like me. god i feel so dumb especially since this has happened to me where people think just because i’m nice to them they can kiss me or something but i should have nev-“
you were cut off by ellie pressing her lips to yours again, her hand gripping the back of your head
you couldn’t tell how long you had been kissing but when she pulled away her lips were swollen and you were dizzy
“you didn’t misread anything.”
“obviously.” you laughed.
after that the little invites you gave ellie began to feel more and more like dates, especially since they almost always ended with your hands down her pants
when you became official, ellie knew she had to find a way to be secure with you
she knew you wouldn’t do anything to hurt her, but it wasn’t you she didn’t trust. it was the people who often took advantage your kindness
so she would be extremely protective over you, everytime you two were at a party together she would have her arm wrapped around your waist, her fingers brushing the top of your hip
she would occasionally pull you in for a sloppy kiss whenever she would notice someone staring at you for too long. even though she hated PDA she felt it was necessary when being with you so people knew exactly who you were with
even though it made her nervous she would never ask you to change. it was just who you were and it was one of the things that made her fall for you in the first place.
whenever you would get antsy at a party because you wanted to go and talk to large groups of people she would gently push you towards them with a “go fly, my little social butterfly.”
she was more than happy to take a backseat and watch you thrive

YOUR HAND !
a/n — STOP THIS IS LEGIT THE CUTEST REQUEST EVER OMG?? / also tysm for the kind words ily 🫶🫶
—
You and Tsireya have been close ever since you were little, so of course you were together when the Sully's arrived to aw'atlu. You immediately picked up on your best friend's attraction to one of the Sully's, and so did his brother. You two had shared a look then, laughing quietly together at them.
That's mostly how you and Neteyam's relationship went, friendly exchanges of smiles and waves. You didn't have anything against Neteyam, but Ao'nung did, and while you disagreed with him for it, you were still very close to the boy, almost like a second sister to him.
Nevertheless, you, like Rotxo, were very close with the family and came along to help the Sully children your clan's way of living. Neteyam, you could tell, was very skilled and got the hang of things very quickly. Him and his siblings finally got their breathing and swimming down correctly, and today, you were going to show them how to ride an ilu.
Neteyam, excited to learn how to ride a new creature and intrigued by you, jogged to catch up to you, trying to start a conversation. "Hi," he started, flashing a shy smile. "Y/n, right? We haven't talked much."
You quickly returned his smile with one of your own, nodding. "Yes, you're Neteyam, correct? Lo'ak's older brother?"
He as well nodded, nervously toying with his fingers. "So, you're teaching us how to ride an ilu today?"
"Mhm!" You excited hummed, clearly pleased at the mention of marine life. "Ilu's are wonderful, friendly creatures. They're not like your ikran though, they don't bond with only one rider for life. Oh! And then we have what we call a tsurak, which are more picky on who rides them, and strong riders and warriors usually try to tame them," you paused, clearing your throat and looking up to be met with Neteyam's eyes. "Oh, sorry for rambling."
Listening intently on what you were telling him, Neteyam lowered his head just a little to hear you, since you had such a soft voice and he practically towered over you. "Don't be sorry, I like listening to you talk about the creatures. And you seem to know what you're talking about, so I'll be in good hands."
At the close proximity, you turned away momentarily, hoping he wouldn't catch the faint blush that painted your face. To your luck Rotxo spoke up, walking not too far from you two.
"Ah yes, y/n is our animal expert on aw'atlu, she loves all the creatures and they're all very fond of her as well." He spoke proudly.
"I can see why." Neteyam commented, making you chuckle sheepishly.
Learning how to ride an ilu went fairly easy (at least for Neteyam). Soon enough he was riding his ilu like a natural, and quickly beckoned you over to join him. You and the others rode on your ilus for quite some time, incorporating their breathing skills into the mix.
Neteyam was having the time of his life, getting to see you in the wonders of the ocean. His heart swelled at the way your face lit up in the cutest way when you got to see all the wonderful creatures underwater.
But alas, all good things must come to an end, as day was turning to night, and you all headed back to your own maruis. Neteyam thought about following you for just a second, just to talk to you for a moment before heading to sleep. He was met with a stern glare from Ao'nung though, and knowing the two of you were close, and the respect you held for him, he turned away, following his brother and sisters. He guess he could wait to see you tomorrow morning.
Entering their own marui, Lo'ak spoke up, finding a chance to tease his older brother. "Bro, you have like, heart eyes coming out of your sockets."
"I do not!" Neteyam denied, looking to Kiri for help. "Sister, tell Lo'ak he is delusional."
"I think you're the delusional one for denying it." The girl spoke, paying only half attention to the conversation.
"See! Even Kiri noticed. Seriously, 'I like listening to you talk to the creatures.' Disgusting, honestly. Made me want to barf."
"Don't even start, you want to talk about heart eyes? You look at Tsireya as if she's eywa's finest creation." Neteyam retaliated, leaving his younger brother speechless.
"Whatever, bro." He mumbled, sitting himself down next to Kiri, ready to head to sleep.
As the next morning came, Neteyam was practically up with the sun, hoping to see you today. There were no lessons with you today, but he was still hoping to see you, and maybe hang out with you today, if you'd let him. He woke his siblings up (Lo'ak rather harshly), and they all made their way out, excited to spend their time by the ocean, or with an ilu.
When he finally spotted you, he saw you sitting and talking with Ao'nung. Normally, he wouldn't have cared if you were talking with someone else, but this was Ao'nung, who was notorious amongst him and his siblings for his treatment towards them. So he turned on his heel and went in the other direction, going unnoticed by you.
He was bummed for the rest of the day, it wasn't hard to see. Neteyam was more quiet than usual, keeping to himself and enjoying his soltitude while going on a swim with his ilu. Lo'ak was off elsewhere, probably with his own crush —lucky bastard, and Kiri and Tuk were off exploring the island. Everybody else was occupied, and all he wanted to do was talk to you.
The next time Neteyam sees you is when he gets into a brawl with Ao'nung and some of his friends. You don't come in until after the fight has ended, rolling your eyes and silently laughing at your best friend's stupidity. You escort Ao'nung away, but not before sending a warm smile towards the other na'vi, making him forget all about the pain in his lower lip.
You see the Sully brother's make their way back to their marui, probably about to get scolded by their father for their actions. Meanwhile, you find Tsireya and Roxto, and the three of you scold Ao'nung, telling him how he needs to start treating the Sully siblings with more respect.
"But-" Ao'nung started pathetically, you cutting him off.
"No, I don't want to hear it. I don't care if you don't like them, they are our guests and have to be treated nicely. If you don't stop picking a fight with them, I'm going to tell your dad." You threatened, giving Ao'nung a stern look. He nodded wordlessly, Rotxo and Tsireya almost laughing. You always had a way of getting Ao'nung to listen to you.
"Fine, I'll go apologize to him," He muttered, hissing when you grabbed his arm to take him over to Neteyam. "Hey! My arms bruised, you know!"
"Maybe it wouldn't be so bruised if you hadn't harassed their sister."
So the four of you found Neteyam and his siblings at the beach, and you let go of Ao'nungs arm, ushering him over there. "Go! I'm not going to apologize for you."
He slowly treaded his way over, turning around to look at you three. He gave you all puppy dog eyes, which only resulted in the three of you simultaneously shooing him further with your hands.
Ao'nung finally reached the siblings, clearing his throat. "Uh- hey."
"Hey." Neteyam was the only one to greet him back, Lo'ak and Kiri sending cold glares his way.
"Look, I just wanted to apologize." Ao'nung grimaced at the words, trying to figure out a way to word his apology.
"The fuck is going on?" Lo'ak muttered over towards Kiri, but not quiet enough that Ao'nung wouldn't hear him.
He side eyed Lo'ak momentarily, continuing on. "Y/n gave me a talking to after the fight. And Tsireya. And Roxto," he quietly added, clearing his throat. "Anyways, they told me I needed to start treating you guys better or whatever. So I'm sorry for calling you a freak Kiri. And for pulling your tail, Lo'ak. I'll try to make sure it won't happen again." He practically mumbled the last sentence, the others barely hearing him.
Lo'ak, with a shit eating grin, heard the last part of his apology, but what would it hurt to make him repeat it? "Sorry, what was that?"
Huffing, Ao'nung spoke louder. "I said, it won't happen again."
Neteyam laughed at the two, friendlily grasping Ao'nungs arm. "No worries bro. It's all cool."
"So we're cool?"
"Yeah, we're cool."
Still watching, you, Tsireya, and Rotxo watched proudly as Ao'nung made his way back over. His head was down as he walked, he was certainly was not one for apologies. Opening his mouth to tease him, Roxto was interrupted by Ao'nung before he could talk. "Not a word."
The three of you laughed, following Ao'nung back into the village.
Without a feud between Ao'nung and the Sully siblings, life was much more peaceful. You didn't have to hear Ao'nung complaining about how much he hated them all, and you didn't have to refrain yourself from talking to any of them when with him anymore.
So today you were alone, Rotxo and Ao'nung together, Tsireya presumably off with Lo'ak somewhere. You opted to head toward some ilus, deciding their company would keep you content for the time being.
You sat on the edge of one of the maruis, an ilu showing it's head to you. You giggled at the friendly gesture, patting its head and tossing some food its way. "You know, sometimes I think I enjoy your company better than others."
The ilu made a sound, as if it agreed with what you were saying. "Exactly! Don't get me wrong, they're nice, but just between you and me, Ao'nung talks to much." You chuckled, tossing it another piece of food. You often would find creatures around the island and talk to them when you were alone, finding joy in their company and interactions.
Unbeknownst to you, Neteyam was aimlessly walking around the island when he spotted you talking to- someone? Nosily, he craned his head to get a peak of whoever you were talking to, hearing something about enjoying their company more. His chest tightened at the words, afraid you already had a promised mate.
At the sight of an ilu he let out a sigh of relief, shaking his head with a smile. You were just too cute, and it melted his heart seeing you interact and get along with animals so effortlessly. His head swiveled around to his ikran, an idea popping into his head.
"Hey, y/n!" You heard a voice call your name, your smile growing wider at the sight of your favorite Sully (don't tell Tuk).
You waved in his direction, your ilu friend tilting it's head at the sudden voice. "Hi Neteyam, what brings you here?"
"Uhm- nothing really," he started, looking over at the ilu and laughing at its little head tilt. "I just saw you here and was wondering if you wanted the company?"
You grinned, nodding your head. "I would love that." You pat the spot next to you, inviting him to sit down. Honestly, you preferred being alone when talking to the creatures, but for some reason, you liked having Neteyam around.
And so he sat down next to you, greeting the ilu. "So, who's this?"
"Ah, this is Nyla. She's very social, although most of the ilus are. Nyla, meet Neteyam." You introduced the two, putting some food in the boy's hand.
Shuddering at your touch, Neteyam handed Nyla some food, smiling wide when she responded to his touch. You watched adoringly, eyeing Neteyam.
"I think she likes you."
"I hope so," He chuckled, now turning his attention towards you. "I- uhm, actually had a question. So you know my ikran?" He inquired, holding eye contact.
You shrunk under his gaze, suddenly feeling shy. "Oh yeah- I saw you and your family arrive on them. They're very beautiful." You commented, remembering how big they were and admiring their colors.
"Well I was wondering— since you seem to be so fond of creatures and get along with them so well, if you'd like to join me on a ride sometime today? Mine has been dying to stretch her wings out, and you'd get a lovely view of the ocean."
"Yes!" You excitedly accepted his invitation, quickly getting up and holding out your hand for him to join you. "Let's go right now! I'm so excited to meet your ikran."
Chuckling at your excitement, Neteyam grabbed your hand, leading you over to his ikran. "Alright alright, we can go now. Bye Nyla." He waved to the ilu, and walked over to where him and his family's ikran's rested.
Your eyes widened at the sight of them, looking at them in adoration. Neteyam fed her a snack, calming her down. "Don't look her in the eye."
So you avoided eye contact, but observed the rest of the ikran, taking notice of her long wings. You were speechless, admiring the large creature.
"Easy, girl." He soothed the ikran, making the bond.
Neteyam then snapped you out of your daze, bringing you closer. "You ready?" When you nodded he helped you up first, following in suit.
Once he made sure you were secure he called out, taking off on the ikran. Your hold on his hand instantly tightened, practically shaking at how high you two were. "Oh great mother, I could never get used to flying this high."
Gently rubbing the side of you waist in attempt to soothe you. Neteyam brought up how he got his ikran, hoping to distract you. "You know, when I first bonded with her, she tried to kill me."
"What?" Your head immediately looked up, glancing over your shoulder. Neteyam mentally pat himself on the back, continuing on.
"During Iknimiya, when an ikran chooses you when it tries to kill you. She practically tried to throw me off a ledge," he laughed, seeing your face of disbelief. "She loves me now, though."
"That's terrifying," you commented, sneaking a glance down and seeing the ocean, feeling a little more at ease. "It's cool though. But I think I'll stick with the ocean."
"Honestly, the ocean terrified me at first," Neteyam admitted, explaining when you gave him a questioning look. "There's a lot of creatures underwater, and you have to be a strong swimmer and hold your breath for a very long time to be successful underwater. It was intimidating at first."
"I get what you mean," you agreed, Neteyam's hold on you tightening as you landed back onto the sand. "You owe me a swim now."
"Well then," he spoke as he helped you down, leaving his ikran to join the rest of his family's. "It's still day out, so why don't we go right now?"
You ears perked up, and hurriedly you tugged him to a marui to call for a couple of ilus, hands still intertwined. A smile graced his handsome features at the realization.
Not once did you let go of his hand.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your avatar modern a-z list and ur neteyam series! I was wondering if you took requests by any chance? like could you do something with aonung with fem reader maybe enemies to lovers? sorry if u dont!
no way, tysm for this! I haven't even put out anything specific saying ill do requests and the fact that you wanted to see more of my writing means so much to me 💚 tysm anon for giving me this chance, i hope it won't disappoint you! There was no specification so I hope me taking creative liberty with this was okay!
: ̗̀➛ “I hate you.” “Love you too.”
word count and approx. reading time: 2.5k words, 8 minutes?
pairings: ao’nung x fem! omaticayan! reader
notes: - reader is neteyam’s twin sister - when someone says something in english it’ll be in italics but not all italic dialogue is english it may just be for emphasising the word - I’m pretty sure the na’vi have their own curse words maybe - I tried to make it seem like you (the reader) is talking to..well..an audience, in the beginning. but i realised thats also you. so to seperate it, the indented text at the start is you talking to yourself.
warnings: kissing, literally making out, teasing, a lot of cussing at the start, neteyam being a protective brother (not a warning ik)
Meeting someone that is so stupidly annoying, so much that you want to kill them on the inside, is common. Its alright. No biggie. Happens to all of us.
But if the same person makes you feel all giddy inside with their stupid smile and their stupid face and their stupid hands on your shoulder and their stupid mouth, so giddy that you want to shut them up by kissing them, then you’re gonna wanna sit down for this, cause it happened to me, too.
“Ao’nung, I swear on Eywa if you don’t actually help me with this right now I will pull out your hair and send my ikran after you, you piece of shit!” you practically shriek at him after being stranded by the ilu.
It had been a month since you and your family first landed in Awa’atlu and started training with the metkayina.
After mastering your breathing, the next step of training consisted of the metkayina helping you and your siblings learn how to ride the creatures, but Ao’nung was being uncooperative as usual.
He didn’t adjust any part of your riding position, insisting that you were going to be fine and that your posture was already “perfect.”, to which you gave him a suspicious glare. And stupidly, you trsusted him. That ended up with you being stranded in the middle of the blue ocean, being practically blown away by the water, ilu leaving you in the dust.
He laughed, his ilu gliding across the water with him on its back, going in your direction. “That was hilarious. You didn’t actually believe me when I said you were going to be fine, did you?” he chuckled, eyes silently judging your messed up and sopping wet hair.
You glared at him, exhaling deeply. “You’re such an annoying bitch, you know that?” you mumbled under your breath, saying the word in english so he wouldn’t understand. He had been messing with you for weeks now, always laughing at you if you’d messed something up and never actually being helpful.
As you swam forward, water level at your shoulders, to get onto the back of his ilu, he extended his hand, offering to help you up. Hesitantly, you took it. Once your hand near his, he reached forward and grabbed your forearm, pulling you up and leaning down into your face.
“You know, for such a pretty face you have such a foul mouth.” he muttered with his deep voice, amused eyes searching your face for a reaction. He really didn’t know exactly what the word meant, but he definitely had a guess.
You were shocked, your hand held high up in the air. He was so strong that his grip on your wrist lifted up the rest of your body, yet it didn’t hurt you at all. Your waist was still submerged in the water,
Your eyes narrowed into slits, he thought he could get the best of you? Even though you were suspended in midair you still came up with a comeback. “Wish I could say the same.” you whispered in mock pity, bottom lip jutting out in a small pout.
He rolled his eyes with an entertained smirk, lowering you back in the water. “Please, you wish you had my beautiful face.” he said as you mounted the back of his ilu, sitting directly behind him. You were about to respond with another insult when the ilu suddenly dove under the water, and quickly you shut your mouth and took a deep breath in so you wouldn’t pass out.
It was all so sudden that you didn’t even realise what you just did; wrapped your arms around his abdomen, clutching it for dear life to avoid being thrown off the ilu for a second time. Once you came to your senses, however, you couldn’t bring yourself to pull away.
Partly because you were just shocked, but also because you could feel his abs. Damn. He certainly was well built for his age, you thought to yourself before snapping out of your momentary daze. You quickly repositioned your hands to hold his shoulders instead, wanting to slap yourself in the face for the thought you just had.
Sure, you had had a few...maybe romantic thoughts about Ao'nung, especially the first time you two met. He stalked up through the crowd with such confidence and assurance in himself that he caught your attention immediately, but your little love at first sight moment was quickly crushed when he and his friend Rotxo started making fun of your brother's tails, right in front of you.
He was strong, tall, confident, and the Olo'eyktan's eldest son. The whole package. Who wouldn’t like a guy like that? For you, it was much easier to resist, because he was a complete and total asshole to you and your family.
You were pretty sure he had the biggest, stupidest grin on his face right then and there because you knew that he knew that you could feel his muscles. He moved his left arm, placing a hand behind your thigh to secure your position on the ilu as he made a sharp turn around a rock in the water. You were going to have a seizure at this point.
Being Neteyam’s younger twin sister had its perks and definitely its downfalls; your older brother refusing to let you date anyone and side eyeing the hell out of any guy that dared to approach you.
“Hey, it’s not like you’re going to mate with any of them now! You have the rest of your life for that!” he always said in defense whenever you would get mad at him for scaring a little crush away.
Granted, he was definitely right. Little kid love wouldn’t have suited you and you probably would have broken up with your boyfriend in a week because you were bored. But then at least you would have gotten used to male attention that wasn’t your family. Well, except for that one time, but that was so long ago you had already forgotten the feeling.
You felt blood rush to your cheeks at his touch, stomach doing backflips. You took a hand off his shoulder to pinch his on your thigh, a silent warning since you couldn’t speak underwater, causing his hand to jut away and return to holding the rein at the front of the ilu.
It wasn’t like this was his first time touching you, he’d placed his hand on your shoulder and flickered your forehead, sure. But this time felt different. It was more gentle. More caring. But you hated him. And he hated you. At least that's what you thought.
Your mind wandered to when you were lying in a shallow pool of water with Kiri, chatting away about how Awa'atlu had been for you both so far. "So, how's your little crush?" she smirked, twisting and playing with one of her little braids dangling over her face.
"Crush? I don't have a crush, Kiri." you rolled your eyes. "Are you kidding me??? What about that douchebag Ao'nung?" she stopped playing with her braid, eyes widened. She wasn't mocking you, she actually thought you had a crush on him.
"Ew. Barf. Why would I ever like him? I have taste, sister." you scoffed, pretending that you weren't considering it inside your head. He infuriated you, made you to want to slap the stupid cheshire grin that was constantly on his face.
But when he did keep his mouth shut, you couldn't help but admire his strength. And his better than average face. "I'm too good for him." you said, snapping out of your little daze thinking about him. Kiri raised her eyebrows in amusement, but you didn't notice.
At the end of the day, your family and Tonowari’s gathered for dinner, having a friendly chat about how things have been going lately. Your mother was doing well in Tsahìk training with Ronal, and your father had mastered riding a skimwing. Your ilu training was taken over by Tsireya who was MUCH more helpful than Ao’nung was, and everyone had made good progress.
But the real elephant in the room? Lo’ak and Tsireya sitting in front of each other, always making shy eye contact as they ate, her giggling sometimes when she saw his ears turn purple.
You felt sick to your stomach seeing the interaction. Ronal and your dad didn’t seem to notice, but Tonowari and your mom definitely did. Neytiri hid her smirk by continuing to eat, and Tonowari had a big smile on his face finding that his daughter had found someone (Toruk Makto’s second eldest son, no less!)
Ao’nung wasn’t there to witness this, cause apparently his dad sent him off to do some errands and he was running late. You shared a strained look with your sister Kiri, who made a fake throwing up expression. Neteyam and Tuk honestly couldn’t care less.
When Ao’nung finally arrived, he took the empty seat on Neteyam’s right; in front of you, even though there were 2 other vacant mats he could have sat on. Kiri broke the half amused half disgusted and half oblivious silence, with a “Lo’ak, please stop staring at Tsireya like that I’m literally about to projectile vomit all over the floor.”
“Kiri, shut up!” he groaned, avoiding Tsireya’s gaze in embarrassment. “Yeah, it’s getting weird and I’m losing my appetite.” you commented, stating the truth but teasing your brother at the same time. By this point, both pairs of parents + Tuk decided to ignore you guys' conversation and talked about their own things.
“You’re just jealous you never had anyone that liked you!” Lo’ak accused you, you gasping in fake hurt. “Well that’s not true.” Kiri said, shoving her mouth with more food. Your eyes widened, your head turned to look to your right, directly at your sister. Neteyam looked up at this.
“Oh– right– uhm forget I said anything.” she played it off, temporarily forgetting that you both kept that a secret from your brothers. “Hey no nonononono, I wanna hear more about this guy!” Lo’ak said, eyes flickering between you and Kiri. Ao’nung and Neteyam were also listening intently.
“I don’t think that’s really necessary.” you said nervously, looking at Neteyam whose eyes narrowed. “No. You will tell me.” your older brother spoke, as you gave him a pleading look. “You know you have to tell him sooner or later.” Kiri rolled her eyes as you slapped her arm.
“Okay! Fine!” you sighed, an exasperated expression on your face. “It was Viawli! He confessed to me with some flowers and then we dated for a while. Behind Neteyam’s back.” you finished, burying your hands in your face.
“Honestly you should’ve listened to how annoying she was when they dated. Oh Kiri he’s so sweet he got me flowers- Oh Kiri, he's so funny, Kiri he’s so handsom–” you slap her own hand around her mouth to stop her from talking, your entire face purple at this point. Lo’ak howled with laughter as Neteyam continued eating, expressionless, his annoyance and protective urge probably bubbling up and waiting to explode once your both were out of sight from your parents.
Your eyes met with Ao’nungs, he seemed very shocked at this news, but you decided to ignore it for now. You had more important things to deal with; Neteyam’s wrath.
After receiving a painful earful from your brother, you opted for a little walk along the beach, enjoying how the ocean looked after eclipse. The sand underneath your feet comforted you, and you liked kicking some of it into water just for fun. As you were doing so, you noticed someone who was waist deep into the water. Strange, you thought. Who would be swimming in the cold water at this hour??
You decided to get closer, and then you noticed the bun. It was Ao’nung. You waded in the water, the ripples from your movement alerting him that someone was near. He turned in your direction, making eye contact with you.
You wanted to say something to mock him, but your resolve dissipated once you saw the look on his face. He looked like he had been deep in thought, something you’d never seen before. All you could do was wave hi. He nodded his head a little, indicating it was okay for you to be there.
You waddled through the cold water, standing next to him. He continued staring into the horizon, and you pursed your lips in silence. This was kinda awkward, but you also didn’t want to ruin the moment. You two were so close, if you moved your left arm just a little you could hold his hand.
Wait what? No! You weren’t supposed to be having these sorts of thoughts around him, he was supposed to be annoying! But you couldn’t help yourself, you looked down to see your hand and his, dangling lonely next to each other. You resisted the urge to take his hand, instead marvelling at the size difference. His hand was huge compared to yours.
When you looked up, you noticed he was already staring right back at you. But instead of a smug smirk, he had a gentle smile on his face. A genuine smile. Your lips parted, confused as to what he was thinking.
“So,” he finally said. “This ‘Vialli’ guy. Did he treat you nicely?” he asked, stopping looking at you and instead turning his gaze back to the horizon. “It’s Viawli. Not what I was expecting you to ask but alright. I mean he treated me really well when we dated–” you stopped suddenly, noticing how his ears twitched in annoyance when you said “we dated”.
Holy shit. Was he….jealous????? Your heart raced at this realisation, realising maybe you weren’t hallucinating earlier today and maybe he actually was touching you with care. You decided to test your theory, with a small grin on your face.
“He brought me tons of flowers, he was so sweet, he always complimented me and he always took me out on dates.” you pretended to gush about him, even though you’d already forgotten entirely what your little dates were like.
“He was super good looking, I was so happy that I scored practically the most handsome guy in the clan–” you were interrupted when Ao’nung pulled you by your chin into a heavy kiss. Your eyes widened in shock, before you closed them and melted into the kiss as well.
Your teasing didn’t quite yield the results you expected, but it got you something even better. You wrapped your arms around his neck and his hands snaked around your waist to pull you even deeper into the kiss.
The entire time your brain was just screaming at you, telling you to pull away. That it was wrong. He was supposed to be annoying. But your heart urged you, begged you to not let go of him.
You both pulled away at the same time for air, and you were stunned at what just happened. You just made out. With Ao’nung. And you enjoyed it. The world was truly going to end.
He placed his finger under your chin once more, turning up your head so you’d look at him. He searched your eyes, your face, searching for any sign that you reciprocate his feelings. “I,” he hesitated, “I see you, Y/n.” he whispered.
You didn’t say anything for a while, just looking at him, and that made him concerned. He was about to back away when you finally placed your hand on his cheek gently. “Ao’nung. I see you.”
His smile grew wide, and he leaned in. You thought he was about to kiss you again, but instead he put his mouth near your ear and mumbled, "I can treat you so much better than that skxawng ever could.", the huskiness of his voice making your knees buckle.
“You know you look ethereal in the night, right?” he said, as you both sat down on the sand with legs outstretched, hands holding. “Oh shut up, will you? It’s going to get weird.” you huff, feeling slightly embarrassed that you went from shouting at him and calling him a bitch to kissing him and holding hands in just one day.
“It’s not weird. I don’t feel like anything’s weird.” he smirks, a glint of mischievousness in his eyes, “Why? Do I make you feel weird?”
You pause, before taking your hand away from his and pinching them together. “I’m this close to throwing sand in your face.” you deadpan.
He squints, looking at your fingers. “They’re touching–” he realises what that means and he takes off running, you following closely behind him with a handful of sand.
Eventually you catch up to him, being faster since you were much more agile than him on land. You tackle him from behind, pushing him down as he yelps. At this point you no longer have any more sand in your hands and you can’t bring yourself to take any, cause you’re too busy laughing and heaving.
You let him go and sit cross legged in front of him, smiling as he pulls himself up, panting for air. “I,” he breathes out, “I hate you so much–” You snicker, amused by how tired he is and place your hands on your cheeks. “Love you too, Ao.”
tysm for reading this, in case anyone has any requests and would be willing to give me a chance to fulfill them i'd be glad to! i had so much fun making this and i hope you liked it anon! reblogs and feedback are most most appreciated 💚

Hey there I have an idea for an avatar the way of water fic its slightly angsty but hear me out pls!
So y/n sully, has been missing for most of the day and no one seemed to notice, until they show up at ronals hut cover in bruises, cuts from weapons, even the hair on there que has been choped off and there que has cuts on it. All of this was caused by the teens of the village, who brought them outside of the reef and attacked them, leaving them for dead. Y/n is a tired, bloody mess chooses to run to there bansie/ikran with the plan to leave. And well they do and no one noticed they left, not even there family. Only ao'nung noticed and it shook him with grief, he loved y/n.
Whether or not y/n comes back, is up to you! You don't haft to write the part where y/n gets the crap beat out of them if u don't want! Thank u!
Alone [Ao'nung]
✎⁾⁾⁾ notes:
angsty at first!
reader is metkayina & characters are probably OOC
I really needed some inspiration, so tysm for your idea anon! I'm also really sorry it took me so long to write this, I hope you'll forgive me 🙏
I changed some things from the req to fit my previous story, I hope you're alright with it!
Overview: You get beaten up by some assholes who happen to not like the Sullys, so you run away. Heartbroken, Ao'nung sets out to find you.
Ronal stifled a horrified gasp. Gashes, everywhere. Deep purple bruises, all over your skin.
“Who did this to you?” she whispered madly. “Come.”
Every touch, no matter how light, stung sharply. Why me? you thought bitterly. Hot tears welled in your eyes but you furiously blinked them back, refusing to give in to the hurt. Time blurred by and you vaguely recalled Ronal asking you a few questions, but couldn’t remember what. Was it about your queue? The blood? Everything seemed to fade away, and you couldn’t care less.
You were gliding across the water with your ilu now. At least those pricks didn’t dare to touch your ride; they were smart enough for that, it seemed. Its hide was smooth, no blemishes in sight, and a tiny smile threatened to ghost your lips. The salty sea, on the other hand, burned your skin raw, but you paid no heed to it. Your heart ached far worse.
Tenderly, you ran your aching fingers over the piece of fine jewelry on your neck, thinking of how badly you wished for Ao’nung to be here with you. You reminisced about the day he gifted it to you. How red his cheeks burned, and how red yours were, too. Another sad smile ghosted your lips. What would he think of you now? Gone and grieving, probably. You loved him, so so much and you choked up with tears. Maybe you could leave Awa’atlu and find another island. Find different, kinder people. But to leave Ao’nung behind…
You gazed down at your ilu, and it whistled somberly.
Ao’nung wondered where you were. He hadn’t seen you all day, and it was driving him mad. Did he say something to upset you, to hurt you? Heart pounding, he combed through your conversations in his head. To his relief, nothing. Then…surely you were curled up in your marui, feeding the tiny fish, right? He had to be right.
But he was utterly, terribly wrong.
There was no sign of you no matter how hard he looked, and his stomach began to churn. His heart raced. His breath ran short. Where were you? Maybe you were lounging at the seawall terraces, where the both of you would share stories together. Not there. By the shore, playing with Tuk and the ilu? Not there, either. In the Sully family’s marui? No. Heck, he even asked Neteyam and Lo’ak about your whereabouts, but the boys just pursed their lips and shook their heads. Ao’nung searched everywhere like a rabid dog, his eyes blown wide, ears keen to any sound of you. He needed to know where you were. He was utterly empty without you.
Finally having enough he stormed into his family marui, tail thrashing and ears flattened. A pungent aroma attacked his senses, but he couldn’t care less–at least for now. In his sight appeared his mother, sitting on the woven floor and grinding furiously.
“Where’s (Y/N)?” he pressed. Sure, he knew to keep his temper in check–especially around his parents–but this was about you. He had to know.
“I don’t know.” Ronal’s eyes were as somber as his, as she huffed, “I asked questions, but no answer.” Her eyes flickered back to the mortar in front of her. In it was the source of the odor–a paste, still gritty.
“What’s the salve for?” Ao’nung pressed. His heart sunk, just a little lower; deep inside, he knew what it was for. He just knew.
Ronal pursed her lips, knowing her son would hate her answer.
“(Y/N) came in with wounds. So many of them…” She sighed, pressing and swirling the pestle. Her face was torn with anguish, and so was her son’s. “I don’t know who did it, and I tried to ask, but nothing.”
Ao’nung paced around madly. The only assholes who’d even think of hurting you was that dishonorable, abhorrent lot. Sure, maybe he’d been one of them, but not enough to hurt. Never enough to hurt. Ronal gazed at her son worriedly, for it was a first of him to be this uptight. She could feel the bitterness boiling over him.
“Ao’nung–” she started. The last thing she wanted was her son missing, too.
“I’m going to find (Y/N).”
And with that, Ao’nung flew out of the marui.
“Ao’nung!” Ronal rushed out after him, but it was too late. He was gone.
It was nightfall now. The waters turned black, and dim candescence webbed its cool surface. You sighed, tears pricking at your eyes. You were tired, hungry, and hurting, and your ilu was, too. It didn’t help that murky thoughts clouded your mind, either. Your ilu chirped forlornly so you stroked its neck, littered with luminous marks, in hopes of soothing it. Guilt overcame you. Perhaps it was better to return, you thought. The poor creature was suffering as much as you, after all. Biting your lip, you rubbed your glittering necklace between your fingers. What would Ao’nung be doing now? you wondered. Is he wondering where you went? Did his heart ache as much as yours did? Was he even looking for you? More tears burned your eyes as they threatened to spill over and you suppressed a shudder as another wave of anguish crashed into you and then–
“(Y/N)!”
Ao’nung.
“(Y/N)!”
You’d recognize that voice anywhere. How could you not? The sweet voice that calms your nerves. The rough voice that you roll your eyes at. It was so long–too long–since you’ve heard him, and your heart leapt with joy? Fear? You couldn’t tell, but one thing was certain: it was him. Him whose gaze turned soft when looking at you. Him who could listen to you talk forever. Him, who was home. But what were you going to tell him? Would he listen this time? You steadied your breath and gripped the handle between your ilu’s queues tighter, eyes flitting to find him.
“Ao’nung…? Wh–”
The ocean engulfed you, cold water rushing all over your skin. When you broke the surface Ao’nung was there, right in front of you.
“I missed you,” he cried, taking you into his arms. “I missed you so much.”
He held you tight and stroked your hair with shaky hands. He almost lost you, after all.
“It took me so long to find you…I didn’t know where you were,” he blubbered. “I looked everywhere, you know, and I still couldn’t find you! I was about to give up, but–” Ao’nung cleared his throat, remembering he needed to be strong for you. After taking a few shaky breaths he murmured beside your ear, “But now you’re here. With me.”
Tears poured down your cheeks. Your heart pounded against your ribcage. Just for a little moment, just for a little, you forgot about the pain. You hugged Ao’nung just as tight–even tighter, perhaps–feeling his warmth against your cold fingers. The tears wouldn’t stop as they ran in streams down your face, onto Ao’nung’s shoulder. He couldn’t care one bit; you were in his arms, alive, and that’s what mattered. His hands tenderly ghosted over your back, your nape and arms, and they rested on your waist as he pulled slowly back to look at you. To his dismay you shrunk away, trying hard to hide your battered body.
“Look at me.” Ao’nung sighed as he wiped the tears beading at the corners of your eyes.
Open wounds littered your skin. They screamed at Ao’nung, and his blood boiled. Who dare touch you like that? He bit his lip to suppress the slew of curses bubbling in his throat. Not in front of you. Not now. That’d be saved for later, he decided.
You shifted under Ao’nung’s intense scrutiny. Thinking it’d help him calm down, you cupped his face and whispered, “Look, the necklace you gave me.”
Ao’nung’s gaze drifted to your neck, and a smile ghosted his lips. You still had his gift on–a sign you were his, and his only. It was tarnished, sure, but it was there, resting beautifully on your skin. He slid his fingers through yours and squeezed tightly.
“Let’s go back,” he said, tilting his head toward the ilu. “Together.”

4/8/2024 eclipse notes
Overall it was a hopeful day for me despite the ever-looming sense of mourning. but the eclipse made it feel special. this eclipse was so mathematically rare because of the exact EXACT chiron conjunction. down to the minute. never experienced something so precise in my 15 yrs observing astrology.. i lit a candle for sammy & spent a while praying then did yoga n journalled outside as the eclipse waned. u couldnt see the full thing here but i saw a little ^.^
i've talked about chiron on the blog b4 but if ur not sure basically it's a major asteroid named after chiron the centaur, "The Wounded Healer". i feel that nickname sums up wat chiron's about, it's your deepest pain, isolation, rejection, & it's where your greatest potential to heal others (+yourself) can be brought forth. so chiron was turbo-activated today. it's digging up a lot of sh** for me truly. like this is rly crazy. but what i realized today is that i'm in the best place i've ever been to grieve, that was my eclipse revelation i spose.
and this is the most painful loss i have experienced in a loooong long time bcus this was someone i spoke to basically every day for the past year. but even then, i feel sm more equipped to get thru it , even if i feel rly quiet rn & not like myself, i kno it'll pass & i'll feel like i can be normal again. dnt feel much like posting rn but i'll get back to it eventually cus sammy rly loved my blog like sincerely i never felt embarrassed that he read my posts. although i do feel this is causing me another minor crisis over internet usage & how to exist online, i know i have to keep posting for sammy P..
yeah ahh the sadness comes in waves but im really glad i am where i am rn to process it all. it's weird to know this will impact my whole life going forward. it makes me think back to sain;t's death and how that changed the course of everything. except back then i was in the WORST environment to cope with it. it's so different now. saint's full name was saint chiron too !! so i always think of them when new chiron sky theatrics are happening. i'm like Awww Saint Wouldve loved writing a 10 paragraph introspective post about this ...They trained me in this manner :>
couldnt resist a late night ramble as i am ever so restless. tomorrow i have therapy for the first time since the day before denji ate a ziploc bag and got emergency surgery. i think that was like 3? weeks ago?? so basically i'm convinced time isnt real anymore because there's no way it hasn't been 3 months. rapid fire trauma lol o_o like please wonderful lord in heaven can we just pick, a struggle , one single struggle is enough. tysm. thats all for now.. trying not to scroll the dash because everything make me feel too crazy rn so pls dont think im ignoring u everyone Ok ilu.. gn

Jason’s the tallest.
He doesn’t beat Kon by much—an inch, maybe two—but he’s like. Way taller than Tim. Which he loves taking advantage of, using the height difference to tease and aggravate Tim until Tim decides to bring him down to his level. Or below.
Kon…
Obviously he’s known the whole time that that’s always been Jason’s end goal; making Tim yank him down, or pin him, or climb him like a tree. Kon can’t blame him. Tim’s cute when he’s irritated; all huffy sighs and puffed cheeks and narrowed eyes. And, of course. Watching Tim put Jason in his place—or being the one Tim puts into place—is always hot. But… recently, Kon’s been thinking. Watching. There’s something about the way Jason melts when Tim pushes him around that’s… different from the way he usually melts when they push him around.
It’s got him in the mood to try an experiment.
He hovers a few inches off the ground, watching Jason pepper Tim’s face with playful kisses, while Tim scrunches his face up, clearly failing at trying to look annoyed. His mouth is twitching upward too much. This is just the start of the game—Jason will escalate until Tim finally gives in and does what he wants.
Which means it’s the perfect time for Kon’s test.
He floats higher and drifts over to them, giving Jason plenty of opportunity to finish his kisses. He has a very specific pattern he follows—one to each cheek, then the chin, the nose, either the corners of the eyes or closed eyelids, and then, finally, the center of the forehead. Sometimes he’ll repeat it a few times, but it’s always the same pattern.
He waits until the third forehead kiss, and then says, “Hey. Where are my kisses?”
Jason tilts his head back to look at him, a cheeky grin on his face. He holds out a hand. “Come a little closer and find out.” He wiggles his brows a little, which never fails to make Kon laugh and Tim roll his eyes.
Kon takes Jason’s hand, drifting down until he’s just head and shoulders taller than Jason. “Hm… Nah. I think you should come and get ‘em yourself, Jaybabe.”
Behind him, Tim grins.
Jason rolls his eyes—a smile tugging at his mouth. “Oh, well, if that’s how you want to play it, farm boy.” He lets go of Kon’s hand, fisting the collar of his t-shirt and tugging. Normally, Kon would go with it; allow himself to be tugged down and into whatever kind of kiss his boyfriends were in the mood for.
Today, he stays right where he is.
Jason huffs. A flush spreads over his face; bright, vivid pink. It’s charming. Kon is charmed, totally unable to keep from smiling as, finally, Jason rolls up onto his toes, arms locking around Kon’s neck. He slots their mouths together, feeling the way Jason shivers, first, and then melts—Kon’s arms reflexively settling on his waist, keeping him from dropping back onto his heels.
His hands splay on Jason’s sides; fingers spread wide in the way he knows Jason likes. Makes him feel almost small, he s—
Small.
Oh.
Duh.
Jason likes feeling small.
It seems so obvious now. He should probably test it, a little more though. Just to see. So he cups Jason’s jaw with one hand, tilting his head back a little bit more, raising up a little higher, looming a little more. Jason moans, a sweet, breathy thing. Kon hums, kissing him a little deeper, licking into his mouth until all he can taste is Jason.
He doesn’t pull back until he can tell Jason’s legs are trembling; his heart thrumming.
Jason lands back on his heels. He’s a pretty sight; no longer vivid pink but a deep red. It brings out the teal of his eyes.
Kon just has one more thing he wants to try.
He cups Jason’s face with both hands.
Left cheek—right cheek—chin—a sharp intake of breath as he kisses Jason’s nose, lashes fluttering before his eyes close, letting Kon kiss first his left eye, then the right.
He plants the last on his forehead, lingering, and then, finally, lets go, landing on his feet once more.
Jason wobbles for a moment, blinking again—almost dazed. Then he looks back at Kon again. The smile Jason gives him is one he’s never seen before—small and sweet and almost shy. It’s one of the prettiest things Kon’s ever seen, and he knows, immediately, that he’ll do whatever it takes to see it again.
