Draw 4
You always swear you can hold your liquor until the next morning when you’ve no clue how you’re $80 richer and why your husband is too amused for your liking.
Tumblr media
a/n: this ain’t proofread and this is just me fuckin’ around. i hope you enjoy it. :)
warnings: alcohol consumption, profanities
»»———-———-———-———-———-———-———-««
“Buuucckkky,” you slur, head flopping onto your husband’s shoulder. You vaguely feel his arm wrap around your waist and steady you. He hums in response.
“Sam cheated.”
Sam guffaws. “I did not! I won fair and square!” Your friend picks up a piece of popcorn and throws it at you.
“And now he’s throwing shit at me! A cheater and a bully!”
“I didn’t cheat! ‘S not m’ fault you suck at…” he trails off. “Whatever we were playing.” He is just as drunk as you.
“UNO,” Bucky supplies, an amused yet exasperated edge to his voice.
You’re sifting through cards clumsily before finding the one you want. Once you find it, you shove it in Sam’s face.
“Plus 4, bitch.”
“Y/N,” Bucky says gently, “the game is over.”
You shake your head emphatically.
“‘S not over till the Bluejay over here draws 4 and hands it over.”
Bucky pulls a confused face, but Sam sighs as if he understands what you mean, begrudgingly reaching for something in his back pocket.
“Hands 4 cards over?”
“Noooo!” You drawl, giving Bucky a look as if he had grown a second head. “4 $20s.” You look back to Sam. “Pay up, hummingbird!”
Sam forks over the money, shaking his head in defeat. Bucky is left wondering if the two of you had made a bet before getting blasted, or if you were both just on a different wavelength and it just made sense. Either way, Bucky decided it was time for him to get you home. He thanked Sam for having the two of you over, and then he helped his extremely intoxicated friend to his bedroom. Once Sam had been taken care of, he returned to the living room where he had left you.
You’re now lying on the ground, staring at the ceiling lights.
“The stars are beautiful tonight,” you say dreamily. “It’s Ursa Major. Look.” You point. Bucky scrunches his eyebrows together.
“That’s the ceiling light.”
You look over at Bucky and shrug before looking back to the lights. Bucky sighs before making his way over to you, reaching down to help you stand.
“C’mon, Doll. Let’s get you home,” he says.
“My place or yours?” You ask. It’s not even a suggestive question, just a curious one. Bucky chuckles.
“Ours.”
Your eyes widen and your face breaks out into a grin. “No shit! That’s awesome.” Bucky laughs again.
“Mhmm. We’re married, sweetheart.”
“God, lucky fuckin’ me.”
You hang up the phone with a frown.
“What’s wrong, Doll? Who was it?” Bucky asks, setting a glass of water and a couple aspirin on the counter in front of you.
“Sam,” you say, a little confusedly. You take the aspirin and wash it down with the water Bucky gave you. “Said I stole 80 bucks from him last night?”
Bucky breaks out into a boisterous laugh that he doesn’t recover from for a full minute.

Finally got to finish adult James Orion on the Buck-stayed!Au, where James and Alan are full-blooded-brothers cause of their father staying.
(Full body reference sheet under)
Tumblr media
I actually finished this since July- but I didn't end up liking adult James' design cause he still looks a lot like Alan. So, I drew those doodles to make myself attach to it.
Most of the major things in the actual story still happened, but with just some different actions and outcomes.
Random facts:
Talked to his mother a lot after the first incident happened, often relaying what Alan wants to say to her. Ophelia stayed with them until James was 15.
Doesn't remember much of Ophelia when he was young, so Buck told him every memory he had with her. Cherished his mother's memory by dyeing his hair the same color as her.
Wants to find Alan, he's still not near to his location though. He does visit forests a lot and even set up camp to stay overnight, just in case.
Generally a somewhat friendly yet strange individual- he doesn't have a filter, he's genuine on his actions and words, will help you bury a body if you give him something in return (like food or money). His personality is more akin to.. a bit of Wayne, and a bit of Dipper- I have an idea on his personality,I just don't know how to explain it.
He's been looking for Alan since he was 20. The 2nd incident caused by Alan left him ostracised. He stopped showing to class one day, and spent his time with his dad or alone in the forest.
Has bad memory, remembers people by experience/vibe, and often gets names mixed up, so he just settles on with nicknames.
Can feel pain, but he has a somewhat high tolerance on it- he does have a weird sense of taste.
Buck helped him get his own van when he told him that he wanted to find his older brother. He understood that his father's own van was special.
Talks to himself a lot. Will stare and mumble at a random object in the ground or in front of him for minutes if he feels like he forgot something important. The longest he stared was two minutes, and that's when he was supposed to go to Jules' house for Thanksgiving.
Will get a temporary job and stay in one place if he needs the money. Sometimes, he pickpockets and steals.
Will come back to a place if he likes it, or if he made a friend there.
Has a separate notepad for his doodles. Most of it are things he sees while driving. He lost seven of them.
Delusional and clingy when attached.
That's all for tonight- hope y'all like it.

how to save a life - e.b

summary: a five alarm for a skyscraper fire puts one of 118’s own in risk.
evan buckley x reader
pray 4 me this is 4k words
edit: HELP DID I JUST FORESHADOW THE S2 FINALE WHAT THE FUCK BUCK
after maddie moved to los angeles, and doug was finally dead, buck felt like everything might finally fall into place. everything had been a mess, but he thought his life was coming together with his new self. he never thought his “new” self would be the one to solve the puzzle.
cases had calmed and his long-needed love had finally come into his life.
y/n clicked immediately when arriving as a new recruit to 118. being a trained paramedic firefighter, she was genius and quick. buck admired her, even though he hadn’t been there over a year when she came.
the two started going on calls together, the easy ones and the troublesome ones. she patched up his cuts, and he iced her bruises. the connection they had was different from most of the first responders in the system.
they knew it was against the rules as they started hanging out more and more. and the more he fell for her. he hadn’t even looked at anyone else because his eyes had become hers.
evan was charming, and speedy on responses. she looked at him with pure respect and adoration whenever he walked in. he lit up the room when he walked in and his attempts to improve himself were encouraging.
the fire between them was jumping floors and the sparks were flying, and everyone knew it. eddie, chim, hen, hell even athena knew.
y/n helped find maddie when she was taken and when chim was hurt. she had been going home with buck when chimney had been on the ground surrounded by crimson.
she hasn’t left bucks side in months, and he hasn’t left hers.
the day had been quiet, which is usually hoped for in their line of work. nothing had happened besides a few small incidents. it was reaching sunset, eddie was clearing plates away and bobby was moving his ingredients back. y/n was organizing the locker rooms, moving things around and cleaning it up.
buck came up behind her, disturbing her quiet. “you hiding from everyone?” he asks, sarcastically. he places his hands on her shoulders and turns her around.
“i’m not hiding,” she smiles. “you just like to keep your locker like it’s a hoarder's closet.”
“haven’t gotten around to it.” he drags out, leaving a soft kiss on her cheek.
he pulls back at the sound of an alarm, raising his brows. “something interesting?”
“god, i hope. i know that’s bad but i need something to keep me up.” the two run out and pull on their gear, climbing into the back of the truck.
“we got 20 stories on beverly, fire started on 7, moving up.” bobby informs through the headphones.
“do they know what started it?” buck asks.
“not yet, all they know is fires jumping floors and we’re gonna need some backup for this one.” bobby pulls out his radio as they pull up to the complex. “unit 118 requesting any units available at 1453 Beverly, backup at 1453 Beverly.”
“shit, this interesting enough for you?” y/n asks buck. he shoots her a quick smirk and looks back at the building. the team shuffles out of the truck, seeing some civilians already making their escape.
“ok, ma’am come over here and we can get you checked out, sound alright?” her sweet, relaxing voice made buck smile.
“eddie, buck, get in there and start hitting this thing. hen, get as many people out of there as you can, no elevator.” captain starts handing out orders and assigning people to places. different teams were going to different floors and the firefighters ran into the burning building. “y/n/n, get in there and start clearing out.”
“on it, sir.”
y/n and buck walked in, but eventually went their separate ways.
———————————————————————
buck and eddie had gotten everyone on the floor out, and everyone above had been taken out. it had been hours, and the fire was still moving. it had become weaker, but was surely still there. buck and eddie had moved out, but y/n was still on the 2nd floor.
she had finally gotten the majority out. people had gone down the staircase and met up with the people who were evacuating them.
a boy in particular had been having trouble and he caught her eye. she had walked over to him to try and help him. he was scared out of his mind, barely letting her touch him to get him out. they were the last two, and had a few minutes to get out. the squeaking of the floor and the crackling of the walls was getting louder by the minute.
the boy was having trouble breathing, and he couldn’t be over 15. the heat was coming through his body, having no protection from it even through his thick clothing.
“hey, buddy, i know it’s scary but you have to try and breathe for me so we can get out of here!”
“where’s my mom?” he shouts.
“listen, we can go find her now, grab my hand and we’ll go see.” he was still hesitant, shaking away. “hey, kid. y/l/n, see?” she points to the name on her jacket. “i know you’re scared but i’m not going to let anything happen ok
“y/n… is she dead?” he asks, shakily, with tears in his eyes.
“i don’t know, buddy, but i haven’t heard anything. we aren’t giving up, cmon.” she reached out to pull him in, and the heat was drowning his body. his lungs were taking in smoke and she had to act fast.
ripping off her mask, she puts it on the boy. she covers him with a layer of her jacket. her main goal was to get this boy to his mom, and there wasn’t anything that was gonna get in her way.
she forced the boy to come down, fighting life or death. the hardwood floors began to weaken, holding the weight up by a string. the cracks were visible on the stained wood, and the smell of burning was pushed into their nose.
when walking over, the cracks on the floor thickened, and got deeper. the pieces of wood were falling. y/n had no choice. it was fight to get this boy back to his mom, or give up and let the fire eat away at them.
she heard the snapping of wood. she felt the collapse of the floor. the structure became too weak, and the tiles and rocks came falling down.
y/n's first instinct was to cover him. he had to be safe. her job was to protect the vulnerable and scared, and she can’t live with herself if she doesn’t do anything to try.
the two landed straight on the first floor in the back of the building. the leftover debris falling onto her already fragile body. the boy was pushed off to the side, hitting his head. y/n looked over. he was awake and moving, but in visible pain. she tried to get up and walk over to him, but she was barricaded down.
tables and desks and materials from the other floors had fallen onto her legs, and a piece of metal had fallen onto her abdomen. the pain was incredible. she didn’t remember feeling pain like this before. she groaned out in pain, heavily breathing.
“y-y/l/n? are you- ok?” he coughs for a few moments, struggling over his words. his eyes were fluttering. she tried to breathe and respond, but the air was getting thicker and her fight response was giving out.
“stay, here. they’re g- gonna find us. just stay awake for me, i know your head hurts.” she needs him to stay conscious. to get help, to save himself.
maybe even save her. she felt ridiculous. the person doing the saving needed to be saved.
when she looked back over, he leaned against a fallen desk. she noticed the slight rise and fall of his chest, and the cut on his temple. his arms were folded by his side.
looking over at him, she yelled as loud as she could. “help! please- buck!” she screams out in hopes that they’ll hear. “cap! anyone please…”
her head is light from all the screaming and the weight she’s carried. the spark of her fight response was blown down, and she let her eyes succumb to darkness.
———————————————————————
“captain nash, we’re handing out a direct order, all evacuation of first responders needs to happen now. the second floor is down.” said a voice over bobby’s radio.
“we’re waiting on y/l/n,” he says. “chim, hit her and tell her to get out.”
“yes, sir.” chim pulls out his radio and switches it on the line. “y/n, gotta get out of there now!”
“y/n/n, do you copy?”
“y/n, again, do you copy?” as he asks a third time, buck makes his way over to him with eddie trailing behind. “what’s going on?” he asks.
bobby and chim exchange nervous looks, knowing that buck needs to know but also that he could make an impulsive move.
“y/n’s not responding. a complete evacuation has been called.” bobby tells buck.
“well what the hell are we doing standing around? we have to get in there!” his voice raises and he shuffles around with his helmet.
“no can do, buckley.” the feminine voice from earlier rings in. “no one in, it’s too risky. we have to stay out of the building.”
“cap cmon, you aren’t really standing back from this, right?” buck shakes his head and stands taller.
“you heard her.” bobby looks down, almost ashamed that he’s giving up. “gather the rest of 118 and we’re going to make room.”
buck stands there in shock. the anger and adrenaline flows through his veins, ready to go back in and get y/n. “are you serious? what is this shit, she would be running back in for one of us?”
“buck..” chim tells him just over a whisper, placing his hand on bucks shoulder.
buck grips his arm and shoves it off. “no! this is ridiculous, we don’t know where she is!”
the officer from before walks away, and as she’s far enough, bobby grabs more gear. “hen!” he shouts out. “stay out here and tell dispatch we need an ambulance.” he looks back over to buck. “this isn’t the first time we’ve rejected an order and it isn’t the last.”
———————————————————————
the four walk in, hearts pounding trying to prepare themselves for what happened. a million things swim through bucks mins. maybe her radio was crushed, or she’s already out and unaccounted for. or she was already gone.
“y/n!” buck screams out over the rubble.
“LAFD, call out!” bobby shouts in front of him.
chim and eddie move big pieces away and search around for any signs of people. buck runs around frantically, stumbling over wood and metal. a clattering is heard from a distance.
“cap, listen.” chim commands.
a boys voice echoes through the high ceilings and tight floors. “he-lp, please.” he forces out.
buck immediately moves as fast as he can. he remembers her voice through the radio, saying that she was with a young kid on the second floor. second floor, the one that collapsed and left all the mess on the first floor. when the team looks up, they notice more than one hole in the roof. they saw a broken floor, and another one above it. the third floor had come down soon after the second.
“guys, over here!” they hear eddie. they rapidly make their way over to see the boy. “he’s bleeding on his head with a laceration to the temple. he’s loopy but doesn’t look much worse than the head.”
“she.. covered me over here,” he mutters. “when the floor fell in, so nothing fell right on me.”
“ok, son. can you tell us your name?” chim says, shining his light into his eyes. “he looks good, nothing to worry about too much. he’s gonna be fine.”
“j-jackson. the woman- she covered me.”
“jackson, what woman? who is she?” buck comes closer, trying to wean every answer he can get out of this boy. “hey! where did she go?”
“buck, relax. if we found him she’s not far.” bobby tries to calm him down, and buck turns around to face him.
out of the corner of his eye, buck sees the yellow reflectance on the floor. a small hand was at the end of it. he sees the swoops of y/ns hair spread out across the floor. surrounding her was a group of cinder blocks and brick.
a massive slab of wall and the body of a desk had forced itself down onto her calf, and a piece of thick pipe had landed on her abdomen. “y/n!” buck runs over, pushing any of the obstacles out of the way. “oh my god, chim, cap, get over here now!”
“y/n, hey! y/n! hey wake up! please, you have to say something!” bucks eyes fill up with moisture seeing his girl buried under rocks in a lifeless look. bobby and chim pull the chunks off her leg and eddie runs over. buck touches the sides of her face with his hands, running his finger down the ash and cut above her eye.
“baby, cmon, move!” he cries, begging her unconscious self to give him a sign.
“i can't find a pulse!” eddie spits out, ready to get her back.
“she must’ve hit her head on the way down, there’s blood in her hair.”
“shit, shit shit!” buck says, moving his arms and beginning compressions. “you’re gonna be ok, this is not the day.” he pants out, forcing these compressions.
“buck..”
“no! y/n/n, come back, please.”
after over a minute of compressions and watching bucks heart crumple with each push, eddie places his fingers gently back onto her neck. “checking for a pulse. it’s there! it’s weak, but it’s there.”
“hen, get a board in here and let LA general we’re en route.” bobby chimes into his radio.
the team places her onto the board, securing her neck and carrying her still body out to the ambulance. buck, in heavy tears, begins to climb into the back.
“no, buck, come this way.”
“what? no, are you kidding? i’m not leaving her!”
“they have her. she’s in good hands and they need room in there.” bobby pulls him back as they shut the doors to the vehicle.
“she could’ve died in there.” his voice cracks and fades out.
“buck, listen to me. she’s alive now. we do what we can.”
———————————————————————
“26 year old female, slight head wound and major leg injuries, blunt trauma to the abdomen,” chim climbs out, pushing the stretcher out into the doors of the hospital. “cpr performed at scene.”
“we got her, page ortho and gen, clear trauma 2 and book and prep O.R 3…” the voice of the surgeon disappears through the chaos of the hospital. patients from all over and the specific building they were at had been piled up at the closest but best hospital in los angeles.
———————————————————————
the waiting room had been filled with first responders. all of 118 was there, and maddie came to be with buck, who hadn’t arrived yet.
athena was the escort to the hospital, speedily driving buck and bobby over to be with their own.
y/n was one of the best. she knew that there was more to the job than just hoses and fire extinguishers. there were people, scared, innocent people having the worst day of their life. she was along every step of the way with her coworkers.
she was the most selfless person buck knew. she got him out of bed when there wasn’t anything to get out for. she made him better and there isn’t a single person buck wants more than her.
half of his heart had been ripped away when her voice didn’t come through the radio. he felt like one of his legs had lost its cast and he wasn’t sure if he would be able to walk again.
he sprints into the hospital doors, searching for the nearest person he knows. “maddie..”
“hey, come here.” she pulls him into a crushing hug and lets him sob into her shoulder.
“she looked dead, maddie. i really thought she was dead.”
“she’s not, she’s in surgery.”
“what did the doctor say?” he asks, pulling away. he almost doesn’t want to know, because it could be anything.
“she has a concussion from hitting her head when landing, and a blunt abdomen trauma from the pipe that landed on her.” she frowns and can barely make eye contact with her little brother.
“jesus christ, so she won’t be back for a bit, huh?”
“no, not for a few months at least. her x-rays showed a tibial shaft fracture in the middle,” she looked over at her pale brother. she’s known him since the moment he was born and has never seen him like this. “buck, sit down. she’s going to be ok.”
maddie leads him over to sit next to her and hen, who reassuringly rubs his shoulder. hen was sat next to chim, whose knee was bouncing under his elbow. some of the firefighters from other districts had even come to support 118. they sat for hours. it felt like years to buck, years he had to wait to see her.
after the painstaking moments of waiting, the doctor walks out. buck is the first to stand up and walk over, followed by the captain.
“she’s stable. she’s knocked out now from anesthesia and we gave her a dose of morphine for the pain. she’s gonna heal, but she’ll be out for a while. she’s gonna need a lot of time and support these next few months.”
“did she wake up at all after you took her in?” bobby asks.
“she was trying to talk a bit in the trauma room. she was able to force out a few words that one of the interns caught. she was asking for a particular person.”
“someone get Garnier down here to look at this leg, we need to get oxygen set up. Souzia, check out the back of her head to make sure that’s nothing to be worried about.” the main doctor spat out orders at his fellows.
“pushing 10mg of morphine.” another voice shouts through, standing above y/n.
“doctor B, she’s waking up a bit!” one of the interns says.
“b-buck.” she squeaks out, barely audible.
“hey, y/n?”
“w-where’s buck? i need t-to see him…”
“ok, miss, it’ll be ok. calm her down a bit and let the OR know we’re coming up.”
“buck, she wanted you.” the doctor says. they know the team by now, they come in all the time.
he didn’t really know what to say, he tried getting out words but failed.
“can we see her?” bobby questions.
“she’s in the ICU, hooked up to a lot of machines. it looks scary, but she’s ok. she’s still out like a light, it could be a while before she wakes up. i can take you to her room to keep her company.” she looks around at the team. “i can't fit you all in there. i’m usually not allowed to do this but i can sneak the five of you in.”
buck, bobby, hen, chimney, and eddie all follow her down the hall like little ducklings. they pass the rooms of people with casts and intubation. they take in the smell of antiseptics and new bandages. the sounds of beeping and hissing of tubes fills their ears and the dimming colors of the hospital in the night overwhelm their senses.
buck reaches the only room he cares about, and the sliding of the door reveals the worst sight he’s seen in a while.
her body was cleaned up and placed in a spotted gown. her leg was wrapped up and a white piece of gauze was wrapped around the top of her head like a headband. her heartbeat was stable on the machine and through fear and panic, the steady beeping brought him down a little. he walked in a little closer and shakily inhaled. one of the chairs had been pulled closer to the bed, and he sat down slowly.
“she’s not gonna break, buck.” hen’s soothing voice comes into the room. “you can touch her.” he looks up at hen with shiny eyes, glossed with tears that have yet to fall onto his red cheeks. he picks up her hand, like if he touched her fingers they’d snap. he puts his other on top of it and pulls it up to his lips, planting a sweet kiss onto her knuckles.
chim sits down on the opposite side, and hen walks over to stand near him. bobby stands at the end of the bed, holding onto the railing at the end. “you did good, y/l/n.”
“we’re gonna have to be at our best without you there.” chim jokes. “i’ll take over for your jobs on calls. you know, handling the machinery and stuff.
“chim, we’ve been over this. you are not handling the machinery.” hen laughs and a smile creeps up onto buck’s face.
“we’re gonna throw… a huge party for you when you come back.” buck says. “and everyone’s gonna be there to see you, so you gotta come back from this.”
“she will, it’s gonna take way more than this to take her out of the game.” bobby looks around. “i don’t even think the chief could if he wanted to.”
buck hides his sobs into his arm, concealing his face from the rest of the people in the room. he felt so weak, like someone had played a joke on him. it had always been y/n and buck against the world, and now it felt like they were in the center of the ring.
they all look at him with pure sadness. they’ve never seen him as such a mess. the happy, uplifting, and motivated buck was carried by y/n. they all knew it, but didn’t realize the extent until that was almost ripped away from his grasp. hen moves over and pulls him against her. the comfort of her grasp makes buck cry even harder. “i love her so much, i need her here with me.”
“i know, it’s ok, buck.” she holds onto him and bobby and chim watch from a distance. “but she’s not going anywhere.”
buck pulls back and wipes his tears. “i know. i can’t handle seeing her like this again.”
the doctor comes back into the room, disturbing the peace between them. “sorry to interrupt, but i have to kick some of you out now.”
“buck, stay with her.” bobby says.
“i wasn’t planning on going anywhere, so.” he watches them walk away when he speaks out again. “bobby?”
“yeah kid?”
“thank you.” bobby nods and says, “keep her safe, pal.”
buck sits there for hours, fighting sleep from the last shift. his eyes threaten him by almost closing, but he sits up and doesn’t let them. his hand, that hasn’t left hers, adjusts on the bed a little as he leans forward.
“i feel ridiculous, kinda like i’m talking to myself. no offense.” he tries lightening the mood, but he still feels like he’s at the bottom. “seeing you there under all that shit was the worst moment of my life. my heart dropped and it… it was unbearable, y/n. i really thought you were dead. you looked so… you looked gone. like i was too late. but we came back for you. i’ll always come back for you.”
“you’re my safe place, y/n. i couldn’t have continued without you. coming home with you every night… you’ve made me a better person. just, meeting up with girls to have sex and forget about it. you just… you’re my person. you’ll always be my person and i’m not leaving you these next few months whether you like it or not.”
he sits back down in the chair, slightly angled to his side. he checks the time on his phone as his shines out 5:36 AM. he sighs and turns it off, shoving it away. he tries to get as comfortable as he can in his uniform. he’s stayed up with her all night, and waiting has killed him. he was drained, so he allowed himself to fall asleep after 24 hours.
———————————————————————
he woke up in the same space, his same position, with her hand in his. it took him a minute to get his brain together.
“hey.” she speaks out, looking over.
“hey.” he grumbles back, looking over. he smiles without making eye contact, and then he looks over at her squinting eyes. “wait, oh my god, hey.”
he sits up and she laughs, “ouch.”
“yeah, be careful, but, holy shit. when did you wake up?”
“a little while ago, around 8-ish.”
“do you, like, feel ok? i don’t even know what to say.”
“other than a broken leg and my stomach hurts, i’m good.” the corners of her mouth raised. “i’m ok.”
bucks lip starts to shake a little before he bites on it to stop it. the waterworks start again out of relief. he puts his head on the bed with her hand on his forehead.
“buck, hey,” she giggles a little at how worked up he got. “don’t cry, please. i’m ok.”
“you almost died, y/n. you basically did! i was so scared, i thought.. man, your heart stopped and watching you get carried away and having to sit here an-“
her face drops a little. she never really realized the extent of what happened until he repeats it now. “i know, baby. i was scared too. i was scared you wouldn’t find me, but i’m yours. always will be.”
he stands up and kisses her again and she wipes his tears away. “well, get ready because visiting hours start at 9. people went home but they’re coming back at 8:59.”
———————————————————————
“you should’ve seen that floor,y/n” bobby said. “the two ceilings were gone.”
“sorry, bobby, i was busy having them on top of me.” buck still holds her hand, barely being able to let it go. he lets out another sob and puts his head down. “buck! love, i’m fine!”
“i know, i know.” he says, pulling his head back up and swiping away the wetness on his face. “i’m just relieved, you have no idea.”
she places her soft hands on his cheek and looks around again. “what about that boy? i covered him and he passed out- is he ok?”
“he’s fine. jackson was able to go home already.”
she sighs. “well at least that wasn’t for nothing.”
“you did real good, y/n.” bobby says.
“you did so good, baby.” buck says, landing another kiss on her hand.
by the door, y/n hears a pair of crutches come into the room. christopher is far ahead of eddie as his adorable smile spots her. “y/n!”
“hey buddy!” she puts her arms out and he walks over to her, all the other firefighters have bright smiles. everyone loves him.
“chris!” eddie follows in, just a few beats behind. “wait for me next time, kid.”
“i’m glad you’re okay.” he says.
“thanks, i’m glad i’m ok too. now i just have to get back to work.” y/n says.
“better hurry, chim’s ready to take your place over here.” maddie says.
“i never said that!”
“chim, you’re welcome to take my role while i’m out.” she laughs and grimaces.
“take it easy, babe.” buck says, already loading his overprotection.
“it means a lot that you guys are here.”
“no where else we’d rather be.” eddie says. “someone was clearly dying to get over here.” pointing to christopher. buck looks over to y/n, who’s eyes have shut a little. she’s hiding the pain, the morphine helps, but it’s still a lot.
“i think we should let her rest a bit, we can see her again soon.” bobby says, also noticing the tiredness.
loads of, “feel better, y/n” and “see you soon”s came her way as she accepted each goodbye. the room was cleared, and the lights were still dimmed.
“go back to sleep, i’ll be here when you wake up.” buck smiles and sits back.
“thank you.”
“for what?”
“for not giving up on me.”
he leans back over her, leaving the hundredth kiss. “never in a million years.”
a/n - sorry for the medical jargon if it’s half wrong i haven’t watched greys in a while 🫠 i’m also only on season 3 dont attack me 😭

9-1-1 REACTION
This week’s episode marks the 100th episode for 9-1-1 and it is a total banger! I figured nothing could get better than Bobby and Athena trapped inside an upside-down cruise ship, but this week’s episode walked up to the bar and said, “hold my beer”. If you’re reading this, you know exactly why this episode is truly *that girl* and I promise you we’re gonna talk about those last 4 minutes and 23 seconds that had us collectively clutching our pearls, pillows, and pets and left us with nary a hair on our scalps. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover so let’s not waste another second. This reaction is for the season 7, fourth episode “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered” which originally aired April 4, 2024. The episode was written by Andrew Meyers and Bradley Michael Marques and directed by actor turned directed Chad Lowe. Spoilers ahead!

“She has anthrax! Or glitter.” – Bachelor Producer, to everyone
Tumblr media
We start things off at the Bachelor mansion where we see real-life runner up of season 20 of The Bachelorette and star of season 28 of The Bachelor, Joey Graziadei. I have never seen an episode of The Bachelor, but I have watched the first two seasons of VH1’s Flavor of Love so I’m quite familiar with the concept of a bunch of women competing for the affections of one man. The opening to this episode does a great job of parodying the hit ABC dating and relationship reality television series while also being respectful. After all, the show and it’s many spin-offs are beloved by many, including 9-1-1 viewers.
We see a handful of hopeful contestants pull up to the mansion in limos, each of them providing a cheesy introduction very reminiscent of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the Real Housewives. I love that two of the contestants are named Ashley because of course there would be two Ashleys cast in the same season of a show like this. My favorite contestant, however, is Ashley A., a flight attendant who looks like she just stepped out of the one-season wonder Pan Am starring Christina Ricci, a pre-Barbie Margot Robbie, and Mike Vogel. Now that I think about it, wasn’t Pam Am an ABC show?
Tumblr media
The last contestant arrives with a bottle of glue and introduces herself as Conchata. Joey is all of us and asks her about her name because for those of you who haven’t seen the episode, this woman is the whitest shade of pale and is the last person I expect to have the name Conchata. The producers (played by Jamie Denbo and Rique) scramble behind the scenes trying to find out who this woman is because she is definitely not Conchata. The contestant comes clean about who she really is and introduces herself (again) as Bailey, an aesthetician from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She takes the bottle of glue and pours it all over the cobblestone driveway. She then lies flat on the driveway in attempt to glue herself to the surface. Our two producers attempt to remove her, but her skin has adhered to whatever glue she poured on the ground.
Cue title card.

“I love dalmatians.” – Ashley C., Bachelor contestant, to Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz
Our favorite 911 dispatch, Maddie, gets a call from the season 5 bachelor and host of The Bachelor, Jesse Palmer. We learn Maddie and Josh (played by Bryan Safi) are uber fans of the show and I cracked up when Josh commandeered the phone call and started grilling Jesse about the new bachelor. Maddie deploys the 118 to the Bachelor mansion and it’s heavily insinuated the location of this particular emergency is outside of the area the department usually responds to. Way to keep it professional, you guys!
The 118 arrive on the scene and Chimney and Hen attend to Bailey (played by Sarah Fletcher). Chimney sees Joey and he is awestruck. I can totally see he and Maddie piling up on the living room sofa after they’ve put Jee-Yun to bed to watch The Bachelor. There’s a funny moment where the other contestants flirt heavily with Eddie and Buck. Eddie tells them he’s taken but points to Buck and says that he is single. Buck tells them he has a rule about not dating people he meets on calls which is hilarious considering he nearly got fired in the first episode of the series for taking one of the firetrucks to a booty call with a woman he saved.
Tumblr media
Eddie and Buck breakout the jackhammer to cut away the piece of driveway Bailey is stuck to so she can be transported to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, Chimney answers a FaceTime call from Maddie and Josh who want to know the identity of the latest bachelor. Chimney flips the camera around and tries to be sneaky about filming Joey, but he gets caught. He ducks behind the limo Bailey pulled up in and sees another woman passed out in the backseat. We learn this is the real Conchata and she has been chloroformed by Bailey. Speaking of Bailey, as she is loaded into the ambulance, she yells for Joey to visit her in prison. Yeah, I don’t think Joey Graziadei is going to be visiting you, Bailey.
“That night was the most fun I’ve had since getting struck by lightning.” – Evan Buckley, to Tommy Kinard
Tumblr media
We next head over to Air Operations One which I’ve learned is a part of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Tommy Kinard (played by Lou Ferrigno Jr.), our former 118 firefighter turned helicopter pilot, is giving Buck a tour of the unit. I got so excited seeing these two share a scene together because it’s no secret that Buck is my favorite character on the show, and I really like how they’re brought Tommy back into the show this season. Buck is in awe of everything Tommy’s telling him, but the latter believes he has ulterior motives for being there. He asks if Buck is thinking about changing career paths. Buck tells him that he really got a thrill flying in the middle of a hurricane to save Bobby and Athena. It’s the most fun he’s had since getting struck by lightning.
Buck asks Tommy what got him into flying. Tommy tells him that he used to be a pilot in the Army. Buck lights up and tells Tommy that Eddie was in the Army, too. Tommy already knows this. Buck then tells Tommy that he met his ex (Taylor) responding to a helicopter crash and then realizes in that moment that maybe that was a sign of things to come. Tommy agrees that saving someone’s life and dating them never turns out the way you want it to. Upon second (and third) viewing of this episode, I find it interesting how the both of them are ambiguous about the genders of the people they are speaking about. Buck could’ve mentioned Taylor by name, but he chose to just say ex instead. Now back to the topic at hand, Buck says he isn’t sure if he’d want to leave where he is now to pursue being a pilot and Tommy assures him he can do both which seems to be the thesis of this episode. Tommy offers to teach Buck how to fly for fun. Buck offers to buy him a beer and Tommy says he’d love that. Again, how did I not pick up on the subtle flirtation the first time I saw this episode. These two’s chemistry is off the charts.
Tumblr media
However, our little meet cute is cut short when Eddie arrives. Eddie is surprised to see Buck there and asks Tommy if he got three tickets to the fight. Tommy says ‘no’ but he wishes he did. Here’s another thing I really liked about this scene. I’m sure, by now, Tommy knows that Buck goes by Buck but each time he addresses Buck he calls him ‘Evan’. I’ve always equated the characters on this show who refer to him as ‘Evan’ as having more of an intimate connection with him, i.e., Maddie his sister or Eddie his best friend. Anywho, Buck is surprised to learn that Tommy and Eddie have tickets to a big fight in Vegas and they’re taking one of the helicopters there. Now I have a question. If Buck wasn’t allowed to drive the firetruck to his hookups back in season one, how is Tommy flying to Vegas with Eddie in one of the LAFD choppers okay? Also, I didn’t know helicopters could fly that great of a distance. Anyway, Tommy and Eddie leave to board the helicopter and our poor Buck is left behind feeling both a little confused and a lot jealous.
“It is so good to have you back.” – Athena Grant, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
Speaking of surprises, Athena does not sleep with her hair wrapped. No shade, but no Black woman I know is going to lay her head down at night without doing something to protect her hair. Okay, I’m gonna leave Athena alone because she is thrilled to have her son back home. Yes, you read that right. Harry Grant is back home but he looks a bit different. The character is now aged up played by a new actor – Elijah M. Cooper. Now, in case you forgot, Harry went to live with his dad in Florida back in season five and we really haven’t seen him since then. When Athena says she can’t believe Michael didn’t say anything about Harry coming to visit. Harry tells her his dad has been really busy and had to fly back to Haiti. Bobby is immediately suspicious of this because he figures that Michael would’ve called about something like this. Athena doesn’t seem to concerned about any of this and is basically just happy to have her youngest back under her roof.
“I saved a baby in a pipe once although it was a preemie and it didn’t speak.” – Evan Buckley, to everyone
Meanwhile, Buck, Eddie, and Ravi (played by Anirudh Pisharody) respond to an emergency at a restaurant where the dishwasher (played by Jibre Hordges) claims he hears a voice coming from inside the sink. Ravi doesn’t think it’s possible that someone could be trapped inside a drain but Buck reminds him of the time he pulled a newborn out of a sewer pipe. The firefighters do finally hear someone yelling for help and the restaurant manager (played by Cesili Williams) shows them footage of a motorcyclist being struck by a car and knocked into a storm drain.
Tumblr media
Buck, Eddie, and Ravi head outside and Ravi, being the newest member of the 118, is lowered down into a manhole to extract the poor guy. During this time, Buck grills Eddie about his outing with Tommy. He learns that in addition to going to Vegas, Tommy is also teaching Eddie the Muay Thai style of boxing and they’ve even worked on Eddie’s Chevelle together. Buck does his best to hide his jealously, but he can’t help pressing his best friend for more details. He asks Eddie when he plans on seeing Tommy again. Eddie tells him that Tommy has this karaoke/trivia thing he does on Wednesdays and asks Buck what his plans are for that day. Buck perks up and says his schedule is wide open. Eddie asks if he would watch Christopher for him. He would ask Marisol, but she’s already watched Christopher twice already. Yikes! So, a lot to unpack here. First, is Eddie using his girlfriend as childcare? Second, does this mean Buck’s level of importance to Eddie has decreased now that Tommy and Marisol are in the picture. Lastly, is Eddie really that oblivious? I get wanting to have a new friend, especially one who you have a lot in common with, but he knows Buck, or rather he should know Buck, and him saying these things, even though Buck technically asked him for this information, is hurtful for Buck to here. This, I’ve noticed, is a continuing trend of certain characters getting upset whenever Buck does something wrong, but having little to no regard when it comes to his feelings. This isn’t the first time Eddie has done something like this and I have to believe that he really is oblivious because the alternative means that he’s doing these things because he’s trying to get his friend all riled up. Of course, Buck agrees to watch Christopher because of course he’s going to watch Christopher.
“Is it circled with a heart around it?” – Maddie Buckley, to Evan Buckley.
Tumblr media
A few days later, Buck updates Maddie on Eddie’s new friendship with Tommy. Buck is so jealous of the new friendship that he’s gathering intel from Christopher. Although Buck is being a little bit extra about all of this, a part of me can relate to the emotions he’s feeling. He worries that Tommy has made such an impression on not only Eddie but Christopher in such a short period of time. What I find fascinating is that while Buck is jealous, he harbors no ill-will towards Tommy.  In fact, he agrees with Eddie and Christopher. Tommy is cool. Buck tells his sister that Christopher would not stop talking about Tommy. Maddie wonders if it’s because Buck kept asking him questions about Tommy. Buck mentions that Eddie has a date written down on his calendar and it’s for a weekly pick-up basketball game with Tommy and other first responders. The date is circled. Buck mentions that Eddie has asked him to this before. Maddie reminds Buck that he doesn’t like basketball and he agrees and says that’s why he always tells Eddie ‘no’ but now Eddie is going with Tommy. Chimney hears the tail-end of their conversation and tells Maddie that Tommy flew Eddie to Vegas for a fight in a chopper. Chimney teases Buck by saying that Tommy’s so cool.
“We have a problem.” – Bobby Nash, to Athena Grant
Tumblr media
Back over at the Grant-Nash household, Bobby tells Athena he talked to Michael. Michael is not in Haiti, and he also had no clue Harry had left and come to Los Angeles which means Harry lied to the both of them. Athena wonders why Harry would lie, and Bobby says it’s because the police is looking for him. They showed up to Michael’s house while he was on the phone with Bobby. Bobby tells his wife that Harry got into a fight and assaulted someone. There’s now a warrant out for his arrest due to him fleeing the jurisdiction. Yikes! Poor Athena. You think you know your kids.
“That’s Jeremy. That’s my son, he’s a doctor.” – Dorothy Nelson, to Athena Grant
Maddie receives a call from an older woman named Dorothy Nelson who is reporting an intruder in her home. Maddie instructs her to stay calm and tells her to find a place to hide until the police get there. The woman panics and tells Maddie she has a gun. Maddie tells her that arming herself can only make the situation she’s in more dangerous. Dorothy starts screaming and then we hear a gunshot.
Tumblr media
Athena, Hen, and Chimney arrive on the scene and find a man dead in the Dorothy’s living room. Chimney tends to her and learns she recently sustained a fall in her garden. Athena looks around the room and sees a photo on the mantle above the fireplace. She realizes the man in the photo looks an awful lot like the dead man on the floor. Hen posits Dorothy has face blindness which means she wouldn’t have been able to recognize the guy even if she does know him. This emergency reminds me of a similar one on Lone Star where a kid locked himself in the bathroom because his dad thought he was an intruder.
Athena goes over to Dorothy (played by Meagen Fay) and asks her if she recognizes the man in the photo. She tells Athena that the man in the photo is her son, Jeremy, and he’s a doctor. So, this lady has killed her own son, and the sad part is, she still thinks that it’s an intruder she shot. This is beyond sad, and I felt so bad for her. I also feel bad for Athena who will have to be the one to tell her the truth. Hen asks her if she can imagine looking into her own child’s face and not even recognizing him. Athena says yes she can.
“That’s how they wake you up in jail for sleeping in. Except the water won’t be clean and it probably won’t be water.” Athena Grant, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
Athena returns home and confronts her son. I did not like the way Harry was talking to his mom and I was wondering why Athena didn’t slap him across his lips. Then I realized, she already did this back in season 5 when Harry started mouthing off at her. Athena is extremely patient in this scene while Harry tells her about the incident involving him assaulting a man. The man, in question, is the manager of a convenience store. Apparently this man was following Harry around while he was inside the convenience store and accused Harry of stealing. The man wouldn’t let Harry leave and got aggressive with him which is why Harry hit him. Harry is upset because he believes she is taking law enforcement’s side over his much like he thinks she did when his father was pulled over several seasons ago. Athena reminds him she is a cop, and he counters by reminding her that he is still his mom. He asks her which one is more important to her but says he already knows the answer to that question.
“Hey, what are you doing on Thursday?” – Evan Buckley, to Howard "Chimney" Han
Tumblr media
Over at the 118, Buck is trying his best to get Eddie’s attention, but the latter is too wrapped up in his phone call with Tommy. Buck tries to impress by bench-pressing a lot of weight but he’s clearly struggling with isn’t too believable for me because have you seen Buck? The guy is a tank! Ravi asks him if he needs help and Buck declines. I wish Buck wasn’t so short-sighted because as much as he wants Eddie and Tommy to notice him, I think Ravi wants Buck to notice him. For him, I think, Buck is the cool one. Chimney brings Buck a package addressed to an M. Buckley which I found funny because either Buck doesn’t have his own Amazon Prime account or maybe he shares one with Eddie and didn’t want his friend knowing what he’s ordering. Turns out, the item Buck has ordered is a new basketball. When Buck sees Eddie again, he suggests that they can get a basketball hoop. Eddie barely acknowledges this before returning to his conversation. Yeah, I’m beginning to think Eddie is doing this on purpose.
“He was shot when he was mistaken as an intruder.” – Athena Grant, to Dorothy Nelson
Tumblr media
Athena puts her cutest outfit and goes to see Dorothy Nelson at the hospital. She rips off the Band-Aid and tells Dorothy her son is dead. When Dorothy asks what happens, Athena tells her that he was killed because he was mistaken as an intruder. I like how Athena delivered this news because it wasn’t accusatory. She lets Dorothy figure out the rest and the moment it dawns on her that she is the one who killed Jeremy she is rightfully devastated. Kudos to the actress playing Dorothy Nelson because she really sold this scene for me. This is the most devasting thing I’ve seen on this show since the story back in season 5 where two best friends were struck during the middle of a parade and one of them died. The scene ends and I’m left wondering what will become of this woman. I can’t imagine the pain she’ll have to live with knowing she killed her son.
“So, I’m your basketball beard. I feel so bonded.” – Howard “Chimney” Han, to Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
Buck convinces Chimney to go with him to the pick-up basketball game. Buck pretends to be surprised to see Eddie and Tommy there. Eddie asks Chimney how he managed to talk Buck into playing basketball because every time he asks him, he says ‘no’. Chimney decides to play coy and tells Eddie he has his ways. I love seeing Chimney being supportive of Buck because very soon they are going to be brothers-in-law. The two square off against Eddie and Tommy and the latter are dominating. Buck lets his jealousy get the better of him and trips Eddie up right as he’s about to make a lay-up. We hear something pop as Eddie falls to the ground. Chimney goes into paramedic mode and assesses Eddie’s injury. He thinks Eddie may have a fracture or sprain. Tommy says that Eddie rode with him, so he’ll be the one to take him to urgent care. Eddie gives Buck a hurt look and Buck immediately feels horrible. Tommy lifts Eddie up and takes him away. Chimney looks at Buck and says, “Well you bucked that up, didn’t you?” Geez, I really feel bad for Buck. He is spiraling!
“It seems unjust, but in reality that’s just the way it is.” – Athena Grant, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
With a cooler head, Athena decides to talk to her son. He apologizes for how he spoke to her. He tells her he is not sorry for hitting the convenience store manager. Athena reminds him that he is not only representing himself and their family, but also his community, which means he can’t go around punching people. He tells her that’s a lot of pressure, but she says that’s the reality of the world they live in. She tells him has to be smarter and he asks her if that means he’s not allowed to be angry. Athena tells him it’s okay to be angry because at the end of the day, he’s a human and that’s what humans do – they get angry when they are upset. However, she reminds him that things could have been worst for him. What if the convenience store manager had a gun? Harry asks her what would have been the right thing for him to do in the situation and I like that Athena admits she doesn’t know. At the end of the day, you have to do whatever you have to do to make it home alive. That’s sentiment is so sad to me but as a Black man living in America, in the South to be specific, I totally get it. It’s not fair but it is what it is.
Athena shows him the footage of what happened at the convenience store. Harry watches as the manager confronts him and even gets aggressive. He also sees himself punch the man. It’s sobering for him to see this video. He says it’s like watching someone else. Athena tells him that everyone has something they’ve done that they aren’t proud of (you hear that Buck?) but the true test of character is being able to face the consequences of one’s actions. Harry tells her he doesn’t know what to do and she tells him they’ll figure it out together. Whatever happens, she will be right there with him because he is her son, and she loves him no matter what.
“I’m not a fourteen-year-old girl.” – Evan Buckley, to Maddie Buckley.
Tumblr media
Buck brings Maddie lunch at the dispatch center and catches her up on what happened with Eddie.  She asks Buck how Eddie is feeling, and he tells her he doesn’t know because he hasn’t talked to him. Maddie is surprised to hear this considering Buck and Eddie are so close. Buck tells her he doesn’t think Eddie wants to hear from him since he’s the one who hurt him. Maddie says it’s an accident, but Buck tells her he was pissed about Eddie and Tommy hanging out so much that he allowed his jealousy to get the better of him. He’s the reason why Eddie got injured. Buck says he was only trying to get his attention. Maddie tells him that is not the way to get someone’s attention. When I first watched this scene, I thought Maddie was going a little overboard with her disapproval of what Buck did. Then I realized, violence is how her husband Doug would get her attention back when they were married. Buck tells her he feels awful for what he did to Eddie, and she tells him not to do it again.
She admits she knows how he feels because she had a similar situation with her best friend growing up. Her friend became friends with another girl and Maddie did everything she could, including dyeing her hair blonde and attempting to change her name, to get her friend to notice her. It never occurred to her that she could have still been friends with her friend even if her friend was friends with someone else. Maybe they could have all been friends. But Maddie was too jealous to realize this. The situation made her look desperate, and she would’ve been better off just explaining to her friend how she felt.
“It’s good to see you Harry.” – Captain Elaine Maynard, to Harry Grant
Tumblr media
Athena accompanies Harry to the police station, and they are met by Captain Elaine Maynard (played by Claudia Christian). The captain tells Athena and Harry she spoke with the Miami Dade Police Department, and they have no interest in extraditing for a misdemeanor assault. However, both jurisdictions recommended Harry remain in Los Angeles with Athena and complete 100 hours of community service. Harry is surprised he isn’t going to jail but Athena makes it known that him being under her watchful eye will be worse.
“It’s not like I could ever replace you.” – Tommy Kinard, to Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
Now, we’ve finally made it to my favorite scene of the episode. We head over to Buck’s loft. There’s a knock at the door and when he goes to check, he finds Tommy on his doorstep. Tommy asks if they can talk, and Buck invites himself inside. I love the subtle detail of Tommy being in awe of Buck’s loft. Buck offers him a drink and reminds him that he owes him a beer. Tommy declines and says he won’t be staying long. He tells Buck he wants to clear the air between the two of them and he didn’t want to do so over the phone or through a text message. Tommy calls him Evan and says it was never his intention to cause any bad blood between him and Eddie. Buck assures him there’s no bad blood and owns up to his bad behavior. He tells him that he and Eddie make perfect sense as friends. Tommy agrees and reminds Buck that Eddie can have more than one friend.
Tommy says that he would never be able to replace him. He says that Christopher cannot shut up about Buck. I love the smile on Buck’s face when Tommy says this because it’s a reminder that Buck, seven seasons later, still craves the approval and the acceptance of those around him. Even Christopher. Buck asks Tommy if Eddie is mad at him. Tommy tells him Eddie is not mad at him. If anything, he feels bad (they both do) for excluding Buck. He tells Buck that he and Eddie hanging out was never about Buck, but Buck says that’s the problem. He admits he can get pretty jealous. I’m so proud of Buck for just owning everything in this scene. Lisa Rinna would be proud.
Tumblr media
Tommy admits that Buck isn’t the only one who’s been jealous. Buck is surprised to hear this. Tommy explains that he’s jealous of what’s become of the 118. When we were first introduced to Tommy, it was back during the ‘Begin’ episodes for Hen, Chimney, and Bobby. The 118 didn’t use to be the family it is now. In fact, the previous captain went out of his way to cultivate a highly toxic environment and it’s because of Chimney, Hen, and Bobby that the team is what it is today. It’s the reason why Buck and Eddie and Ravi were able to be accepted right away without having to be hazed by the other firefighters. Tommy admits he wishes he were a part of what the 118 has become and Buck reminds him that he is. He reminds Tommy of how he made fake mouth static at the fire chief during their daring mission to save Bobby and Athena. Tommy says he’s renowned for his fake mouth static, but Buck says it wasn’t very convincing. The banter between these two men is so cute I could actually explode. Buck tempers his teasing by reminding Tommy that he was willing to put his job on the line to help the rest of them out. That was the moment Buck realized that Tommy was cool and that he liked him. He tells Tommy that’s the reason he called him for the tour. It’s not because he’s thinking about leaving the 118; it’s because he wanted to get to know him. It’s Tommy’s turn to be surprised. Buck says things took a turn when Eddie arrive, but he understands why Tommy wants to hang with Eddie. It was so cute the way Buck gushes about how great Eddie is that he’s known Eddie is great since the first day he worked with him. Aww! At this point, I’m literally yelling at my TV.
“That was better than fake mouth static.” – Evan Buckley, to Tommy Kinard
Tumblr media
The flirting is turned up to level 100 when Buck tells Tommy it’s his attention he’s been trying to get and frankly he’s exhausted. Again, Tommy is surprised to hear this. Buck reminds him that he maimed his best friend, and that Maddie told him there are better ways to get someone’s attention. Before Buck can even finish the statement, Tommy leans in and kisses him. There’s a brief hesitation in Buck, most likely because he is shocked, the Buck starts to kiss him back. This moment was beyond shocking to me and even now, three days later, I still have to watch the clip to remind myself that Tommy kissed Buck and Buck definitely kissed him back. I spent years thinking something like this would never happen and I’ve gone back and forth with Buddie shippers online telling them that Buck or Eddie coming out as anything other than straight was an impossibility. Yeah, maybe that was the case when 9-1-1 was on FOX but this is a new network baby and ABC said, let them boys kiss! And yes, it’s not Eddie and Buck that are kissing but in my opinion, this is an even better direction for the characters to go in. I’ve always believed that if either character were to come out as queer, it would be Buck. We’ve only seen Buck in relationships with women, but he’s always struck me as someone who is open to whatever experiences come his way. Perhaps this explains why he's always had difficulty in the relationships he’s pursued on the show. Eddie, on the other hand, is a lot more reserved than Buck and the writers are going to have to put in work to convince me he is anything other than a heterosexual man. I’m not saying it’s out the realm of possibility, but I think the writers did a good job getting us where we are now, and they’ll need to do the same for Eddie in the future should that be the direction they want to go in for that character. Also. bringing Tommy into the equation is a brilliant move on their part because rewatching those ‘Begin’ episodes, there are insinuations there that he may be gay or bisexual.
Tumblr media
Okay, back to the scene. The way Tommy is looking at Buck gives me all the feels. The way he’s looking at Buck tells me that if he didn’t have to leave for his shift, they would be going at it on Buck’s new sofa. I’m so happy this isn’t just a one-sided interest. After the kiss, Tommy asks Buck if he’s okay with the moment they just shared. Buck is looking every bit of the bewildered that’s a part of the title of this episode. He tells Tommy that the kiss was better than his fake mouth static. Tommy tells him he has a shift, but he wants to take Buck out on a proper date. Buck tells him he’s free and man is that statement layered. Free to go out. Free to be who he wants to be. Free to kiss anyone he wants to kiss. Tommy tells Buck he will come around on Saturday at eight to pick him up. Tommy goes to leave but before opens the door, he tells Buck to call Eddie. We end the scene with Buck looking the happiest he’s looked in a long time.
This episode is hands down one of the best of the series and that’s just not recency bias. I feel that way about all the episodes we’ve gotten this season. 9-1-1 is firing on all cylinders at this point and things feel fresh and new again. The plot with Athena and Harry was perplexing at first but then I grew to like it by the end. I like that the show reminds us that Athena being a Black woman and a cop is controversial, especially in today’s climate, and I like that her kids aren’t afraid to call her out. I love seeing Athena reckon with both identities and how they relate to each other. I especially loved her conversation with Harry because it’s very reminiscent of conversations I’ve had with my own mom. Her telling Harry that it’s unfair that he has to always be on his best behavior but necessary rang so true to me. Athena has always known this, even before she had kids, yet she chooses to continue to work within a system that reinforces this kind of thinking.
Tumblr media
The storyline with Buck was also fun. It was a nice balance to the sadness of the story with the woman killing her son on accident. I like how Buck is never afraid to be vulnerable, even if it’s to his detriment. I hope we get a conversation between him and Eddie next episode because I love their friendship and I don’t want it to ever change, and something tells me Buck is going to lean heavy on his friendship with Eddie now that he might be dating Tommy. And I hope that Eddie continues to be supportive of his friend when he finds out the truth about his sexuality. I don’t think Eddie would have a problem with it. After all, Hen is an out and proud lesbian, and we also have Josh who is gay. I do know that some people do question the legitimacy of bisexual people but again, I don’t think Eddie will have a problem with whatever Buck labels himself as. Maybe we’ll even get a double date between Eddie, Marisol, Buck, and Tommy. That would be fun.
Lastly, I wanted to talk about Buck and Tommy. I think the show did a great job getting us to the moment where they shared a kiss this episode. As I mentioned earlier, I have seen this episode quite a few times and I’ve watched the scenes involving Buck and Tommy more than that. If you watch the scene where Buck is visiting Tommy, there’s so many little looks the two are giving each other. I think at that point that Buck is only infatuated but Tommy is clearly interested. Also, if you go back to the previous episode, at the end once everyone has been rescued, there’s a look Buck gives when he is telling Tommy goodbye. I love things like that and it’s proof to me that this isn’t just gaybaiting or queerbaiting. This is the show telling us that one of their beloved characters is queer and they have taken special care with letting us know that. I love how Oliver Stark and Lou Ferrigno Jr. are invested in this story. In fact, the cast is supportive of Buck going in this direction. I’m so happy that the fans have this moment. It’s been so fun engaging with people online about this episode and while there are viewers who have and will balk at Buck being a queer character, I say screw those people. If a character’s sexuality can make you that upset, you clearly haven’t been watching the show and you’re not a fan.
Okay, this reaction has gone on way too long. I’ll say it one last time. I’m so happy Buck is bi!!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next! Until next time …

Lighting
Tumblr media
Tommy x Evan “Buck”
Summary: While Evan waits at home for Tommy to get home from his shift a thunderstorm is brewing. Storms usually dont bother him but ever since he was struck my lighting he gets flashabcks. When Tommy arrives home he finds Evan hiding in a closet.
Tw: ptsd, panic attacks
A/n: Im sure this story has been done before but heres my take on it !
———————
On the way home from work Evan notices the dark clouds in the sky. “I hope it doesn’t storm” he says to himself. He gets his phone out to check the weather. Theres only a 20% chance of a storm but thats not zero.
He taps Tommys name hoping he answers. No answer but soon after a text followed.
Tommy❤️: On a call, call when I can. Love you.
Evan sighs and slips his phone back in as pocket as he puts his jeep in park in the driveway.
Evan head’s upstairs and unpacks his work bag putting his dirty clothes in the laundry basket. He hops in the shower to wash away all the dirt.
When he gets out he puts on a pair of Tommys sweatpants and one of Tommys sweatshirts so it feels like Tommys wrapped around him.
He heads downstairs to start making dinner. Hopefully Tommy is home soon, his shift ends in an hour.
As he cooks dinner he can hear the rain start to hit the ground. Evan took in a deep breath, “its just rain.” He tells himself.
A loud clap of thunder roared through the house, that made Evan jump accidentally grabbing the hot pan on the stove.
“Ouch!” Evan yells shaking his hand in pain. He takes a look at his hand, its really red and might leave a small blister but nothing to worry about.
He ran his hand under some cold water to soothe the pain.
The kitchen lit up from a lightning strike and thunder roared through the house again. Evan closed his eyes try to take in slow deep breaths to calm his nerves.
His eyes shot open when another clap of thunder happened. He ran upstairs and went into the guest room and shut himself in the closet.
The guest room only had one window so he should be safe. He brought his knees up to his chest and buried his head between his knees covering his ears with his hands.
——-
Tommy finally arrived back at the station, he tried calling Evan back but he didnt answer. He figured Evan was cooling dinner or in the shower, he’ll probably call back in a few minutes.
Tommy got into his truck and drove home. He tried calling Evan again, but still no answer.
When Tommy walked into the house he took off his wet shoes and left them by the door. He smelled burnt food and a hint of smoke.
“Evan?” He called out. No answer. He walked into the kitchen and saw the sink running and a pan on the stove with smoke coming out. He quickly turned the stove off putting the pan in the sink.
“Evan?!” He calls out again. Tommy starts to worry as its not like Evan to leave something on the stove unattended, he is a firefighter he knows the dangers.
Tommy trys calling but he hears Evans phone ringing and spots it on the floor. He knows hes home because his jeep is in the driveway.
Tommy begins looking around the house for Evan calling his name out.
“Evan?” Tommy says flipping on the light to the guest bedroom. He hears a soft sniffling sound coming from the closet.
He slowly walks over to it and opens the door, at first he just sees an empty closet but moves his head down to look at his phone when be sees Evan curled up sitting on the floor.
“Evan? What are you doing in here?” Tommy asks, he squats down placing his hands on Evans back and on his knee.
Evan looks up and sees Tommy, part of him is relieved that Tommy is home. The other part is still petrified of the storm.
“Baby whats wrong?” Tommy asks, Evans face is stained with tears as more fall, his hands are shaking. “T-t-t-the….. storm…..” Evan stutters out.
At first Tommy was confused then he realizes Evan is having PTSD from when he was struck by lightning. That explains the stove being left on and the sink running.
Tommy sits on the ground bringing Evan in closer to him. “Its okay, i’m here. I’m not going to let anything happen. You’re safe Evan.” Tommy says against Evans head giving him small kisses.
“Evan, your hand.” Tommy says when he notices the redness and blistering on Evans hand. “I accidentally touched the pan, when i got scared. I guess its a little worse than i thought.” Evan says his voice shaky.
It took some convincing but Tommy got Evan to walk to the bathroom with him so he could properly treat his hand.
“I’m sorry about dinner.” Evan apologizes. “Dont you worry about that. Its okay. I know storms can be scary.” Tommy reassures him as he finishes wrapping his hand.
Another clap of thunder shook the house, Tommy quickly wrapped his arms around Evan soothing him as it passes.
“See? Everything’s okay. I’m here.” Tommy kisses Evans bandaged hand. “I’m going to go make dinner, want to come?” He asks. Evan shook his head yes, hes not going anywhere where Tommy isnt.
The two ate dinner together on the couch so Evan could be as close to Tommy as he needed to be. While Tommy showered Evan sat on the toilet.
When they laid down for bed Tommy took the side of the bed that was closet to the window so Evan could have the opposite. He wrapped Evan up in his arms tight so he would feel secure.
This was the safest Evan has felt all night, it didnt take long for him to fall asleep.

I do not nor will I ever give permission for my writing to be copied, pasted, reposted to other sites, or edited in any way shape or form. Seriously, just don’t.
A/N: I did not make the gif, and @vbecker10 inspired me to use it. Just look at him! Adorable, and so, so done with people's bullshit. If this progressed kind of fast, I'm sorry! I really didn't want to start another series, and I didn't want to publish something that was INSANELY long either. I love writing our Reader as someone who can handle herself, it makes me so happy. I hope you all can enjoy another Badass Reader fic!! (There will be a super slutty epilogue but I'm so ready for this to be out so the smut will appear in the next bit, but both pieces can be read on their own)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The door to your house was broken. Someone had kicked it in. You step over broken glass, finding every drawer ripped apart.
“James?” You called out to your husband. Silence was the only answer you received.
“Bucky??” Your voice was more desperate. You ran from room to room, only finding more destruction. Making your way into Bucky’s office last, you found his sitting corner smashed, with blood staining the carpet and upholstery. A broken cell lay on the ground – Bucky’s work phone. The picture of you and Bucky on your wedding day had been ripped out of its frame, the blade of a hunting knife stuck in the side table through the photo of Bucky, while your face had been scratched beyond recognition. There was no mistaking the message that the sender was intending. Though your marriage wasn’t traditional, James Buchanan Barnes had never made you feel like property. Your husband was the only person in your life that hadn’t treated you like a means to an end, like a bargaining chip or a high-ticket item, and he was missing. You pick up the cracked phone on the ground, managing to turn it on enough to get Steve’s number out of it. You dial, hang up after one ring, then call right back.
“Hey, Buck, what’s up?” You hear Steve’s jovial voice on the line.
“He’s made his move. Get Wilson and be here in 20.” Your voice was calm, but Steve could hear the icy bite.
“Y/N, sweetheart, I know this is tough but–”
“But nothing, Rogers.” You cut him off. “I know that I haven’t been involved in the business, but this is personal. 20 minutes. Wilson. Bring however many weapons you can carry.” You hung up, not waiting for a response.
Tumblr media
Your marriage was transactional, you’d known that from the start. You’d been adopted by Rumlow Senior when your mother had passed, and been raised alongside his son, Brock. At least, that’s the story the Public knew. You had been part of your mother’s efforts to pay off her debts to the Rumlow Mafia family. Your father had passed from massive medical complications – you didn’t know a lot of the details, you had been too young to understand and no one had ever given you much to go on past that – and your mother had borrowed money from the Rumlows to help pay for his treatments. There wasn’t money to pay back her loans, so she paid them back the only way she could. Your mother had become the infamous Mafia fixer known as Lady Death, and you had been sent to live with the Rumlow family at age five as insurance. She had been legally dead since you were adopted by the Rumlows, but your mother had been killed for real on an assignment when you were seventeen. After over a decade with the family, Rumlow Senior had made you a deal. Keep playing the role of his adoptive daughter, and you would be kept safe. When you were twenty one, you were given a choice. Rumlow Senior would be stepping down as head of the Rumlow Family that year.
“But why would you pick me?” The question hung heavy in the air of Rumlow Senior’s office.
“You have been raised in the Family just as Brock has, Y/N. You are every bit as ruthless as my biological son, and I have complete faith that you would make the right decision for the future of the family whenever the need arose. Unlike my son, however, you have a cool head on your shoulders. You do not jump at the chance for violence. You take the diplomatic route whenever possible, and leave none in your path when it is not.” You sat there in silence. This wasn’t a life that you had wanted. True, you had grown up learning alongside Brock in order to maintain the role of Rumlow’s Little Princess, but you hadn’t ever expected to be offered anything, much less control of the family.
“I . . . I don’t mean any disrespect, but what’s the other option?” Rumlow Senior crossed his arms. You knew that wasn’t the answer he was hoping for, but still, he responded.
“If you don’t step into the role of Matriarch, there will be a target on you. Your safest choice would be to marry the head of another family. Your husband’s power would both protect you and benefit our family.” You chew on your lower lip and nod slowly. There was no leaving this life behind for you, not if you wanted to live past the age of 25.
“If I really do get a choice . . . I would rather the marriage.” You took a deep breath, collecting your thoughts. Rumlow Senior watches you, a pensive expression on his face. “You’ve been an amazing father to me, both before and after my mother’s . . . Passing . . . but this life. . . it isn’t for me. I don’t want any hand in the lifestyle that killed my mother.” You couldn’t stop the bite from sneaking into your voice during your last sentence. Rumlow Senior nodded slowly.
“As much as it pains me to admit, this life has not been kind to you. I’ll put out the notification to other families and see who we may ally ourselves with. You’ll always be a part of this family, Princess, even if you weren’t born into it.” He gave you a gentle smile. The old man had always treated you carefully and stated that your mother’s debt wasn’t yours to carry, but you’d overheard conversations behind closed doors. An arranged marriage had been in the cards for almost a decade now. You weren’t a part of the family, you were a business asset that he wanted to keep compliant. If nothing else, at least the marriage would get you out.
Several offers had been made. It seems the Romanoff Matriarch liked women, and the Pierce empire also put in a bid for his youngest son. The one that surprised you the most, however, was James Buchanan Barnes. His was a family made of people who didn’t have a home, jokingly called The Lost Boys by Brock and his lackeys. While he had no family power, he was indisputably powerful.
“So which one do you think, Princess? Any of these would make great allies for our family. That Romanoff girl is quite a catch, she’s got fire in her.” You put on your best business mask, looking over the files.
“Yeah . . . She is pretty great, but the Romanoffs only control most of the upper East side. We have the South, which is almost double the size of the upper East. The smartest choice is Barnes. His White Wolf family controls the North and the parts of the East that the Romanoffs don’t.” You close the folders and lay them on the desk. “First choice is Barnes, second choice is Romanoff, and third choice is Pierce. He’s always given me the creeps though.” Rumlow Senior smirked, impressed with your choices.
“Spoken like a true businesswoman. Let’s have a wedding!”
Tumblr media
Within the next two months, you and Barnes were married.
“Please sit still?” You kept dabbing the medical wipe on his bloodied knuckles despite the mobster’s squirming. “I know it stings, but you did this to yourself. Besides, are you gonna sit here and tell me that you can punch a man multiple times, but you turn into a toddler when I have to clean a cut?” Barnes kept looking down, his face forever brooding. He didn’t answer, but did still his hand. “There. Was that so hard?” You busied yourself putting away the first aid kit.
“You aren’t comfortable around me, are you?” His statement caught you off guard and your head snapped up to look at him. His expression was relaxed. This wasn’t the kingpin that had just beat information out of a Pierce Empire lackey. He sighed, rolling his shoulders. “I don’t think a lot of people would be, especially witnessing what you just did . . . I’m sorry you had to see that.” You chew on your lip and Barnes continued. “I know you were raised with the Rumlows, and I guess I just assumed that you’d be used to seeing that sort of thing.” He paused, waiting for your response, but seemed genuinely taken aback when you started to giggle.
“You think I’ve been distant because of a little violence? James–”
“Bucky,” he interrupted. “Please, call me Bucky.” A soft smile breaks through your mask.
“Bucky,” you corrected. “I’ve done worse than that to Rumlow thugs when they failed to follow my father’s orders. I wasn’t shielded from any of it. In fact, I was even offered control of the Rumlow family. I turned it down. Given the choice, I’d rather not be the cause of violence, but violence doesn't bother me ”
“Then what does?” His eyebrows knit together in confusion, and you sit across from him on the tile floor
“About the beating or the relationship?”
“Uuhh . . . both, I guess?” You’d never heard Barnes sound so unsure. It was refreshing, even endearing to a degree.
“I’ve been treated like a bargaining chip since I was little. First, my mother, then my adoptive father on multiple occasions. Our marriage was just another business deal to him, and I didn’t think you’d want a clingy business deal. You get alliance with the Rumlows, and I get to keep my protection. I don’t see a reason to complicate things.” Bucky was quiet for a few moments.
“And the beating?”
“Oh, that one’s easy. It’s really hard for someone to give you information if you don’t give them a break in between blows to answer your questions. Seriously, that’s basically mafia 101.” Bucky burst out laughing at your cheeky response. People didn’t usually talk to him like that, they were all too afraid.
“I’ll give you that one, Doll,” he stated as he regained control of himself. He stared at you, taking in your every feature. After a few moments, you broke the silence.
“You’re thinking something, Bucky. What’s on your mind?”
“I’m thinking that I’d like to make this relationship a little more complicated . . . what about you?”
Tumblr media
You had kept your own room, but from then on things with your new husband just seemed . . . easier. You spent most of that night talking about how you really came to be a part of the Rumlow family, and how you had opted for marriage because it was the closest thing to your own life that you’d ever have. In turn, Bucky began to open up about his past. How working for other groups had landed him with a metal left arm and a distrust of most people. How his time as a fixer had caused most people to fear him, and therefore avoid him. He didn’t really have friends outside of Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, and they both worked for him. You got the sense that he chose to have his marriage arranged because he thought it was easier than the alternative for someone like him.
“You know . . . you don’t have to be alone.” You had told him one night.
“And what do you mean by that, Doll?” He had questioned you, raising an eyebrow as he set down his bourbon glass.
“You say you’re alone because people are afraid, but that’s not completely true. You can’t fool me, Buck. I was raised with the potential to do the job you do. You aren’t alone because people are afraid, but because you don’t give them the opportunity to not be.” Bucky was quiet, but watched you with a fascination. You place your drink on the side table and lean forward. You’d come to enjoy the nights that you and Bucky would just sit and talk. It was a welcome escape from the monotony of everyday life and the drain of keeping up social appearances. Both of you were relieved when you could drop the masks and the roles that you were each expected to play and just exist with another person who didn’t judge you. Who didn’t hold any expectations apart from honesty. Your husband takes another sip, trying to hide the smile that played across his face.
“And what would you suggest I do instead, Sweetheart?” God you loved the intensity of his gaze, and as he ran his tongue over his lower lip, you decided that you were feeling brave. You stood, sauntering over to him. Bucky leaned back in his seat, setting his drink down and allowing you to lean over him, your lips brushing his neck.
“Ask.” That singular word whispered in his ear broke Bucky’s self control. His right hand flew to your neck, pulling your lips to his. You felt the cool metal of his left hand pressing into your thigh as he slid your skirt up, allowing you the mobility to straddle his lap. You press yourself against him as you whine, desperate for his touch. You didn’t sleep much that night, being pushed to the edge over and over and over, only to be brought back without release. Bucky loved watching you struggle. He loved your willingness to fight, and he wanted to watch as the fight drained from you and you submitted to his will. He knew you had been playing the roles expected of you your whole life so here, behind closed doors, he would earn your submission, not demand it. You would choose when you broke, but once you did? Bucky was going to ruin you, and he was going to savor every moment
Tumblr media
After that night, you rarely slept in your own room. Your marriage was transactional, no one could deny that. Through the years, however, it had become so much more. You became one of the most powerful couples in the city, though you still kept your distance from the world of crime. Your diplomacy was unrivaled, but one night, that all came crashing down.
Your brother, Brock, had taken the role of Rumlow Patriarch when your father stepped down. For years, Brock’s temper had been controlled by your father’s background guidance. That all changed the night Rumlow Senior passed away. You attended the funeral, of course, but he passed suddenly. Bucky was out of town on a business trip and unable to make it back in time for the event. You passed along his condolences to Brock, but Brock took your husband’s absence extremely personally. Without the watchful eye of Rumlow Senior, Brock Rumlow’s true nature shone through. Brock was a loose cannon. His temper was unmatched, and his ego caused him to completely disregard the rules that every other family played by. For months after the funeral, the street thugs under your brother’s command ran rampant. They overstepped boundaries and lines of control held by other families as well as started fights wherever the opportunity arose. One night, they went too far. Three of Bucky’s new recruits had been carried back to the office after your brother’s thugs beat them almost to death. All they had done was refuse to leave the bar that they were already drinking at when the Rumlow thugs showed up, stating that the two groups could co-exist. These were just kids, barely old enough to even be IN the bar, and with six men versus the three kids, it was a massacre. Adding insult to injury? That bar was on White Wolf property and owned by Steve Rogers, one of Bucky’s right hands. Bucky had come home fuming that night. You talked him down from murdering your brother on the spot. You had no love for your brother, but murder would result in an all-out war. You spent the better part of the night with Bucky, Sam, and Steve readying yourselves for several outcomes. The following night, Bucky went to have a civil meeting with Brock, Mob Boss to Mob Boss about the behavior of his subordinates. Steve and Sam went on patrol hoping to stop another encounter, and you went to meet with Natasha Romanoff, the Matriarch of the Romanoff family. If this all went south, you would need an ally in order to take your brother in an all out war.
Tumblr media
So that’s how you got here. Standing in your husband’s office surrounded by the aftermath of a ransacking. Your shoulders fell back and your chin lifted. If Brock wanted a fight, you’d give it to him. Brock may be the head of the Rumlow Family, but with Bucky currently indisposed, you were the head of White Wolf. Time to show him what his Little Sister was capable of when someone threatened her family. You headed straight to your room. If you were going to be acting as the White Wolf Matriarch, then you should look the part. You slide into your black business leggings. They look like skinny cut pants, but provide enough flexibility for you to move. A flowy black blouse pairs nicely, accompanied by several gold accessories. You favored rings and necklaces, but added a couple cuff bracelets for good measure. Your knee high riding boots with the steel toe inserts were pulled from your closet. Your winged liner was sharp enough to stab a man was accompanied by a dark lip and perfect brows. Finally, you swept your hair up into a sleek high ponytail. You take one look in the mirror, and your appearance plus the cold hearted look in your eyes made you smirk.
“The bitch is back,” you thought to yourself. You pulled a duffel bag out from under your bed. You hadn’t much from your mother, but you did keep her favorite set of knives. They were well known as the choice weapons for Lady Death, and that fear could serve your purposes. Strapping the wrist holsters to each wrist, you frowned. This blouse was nice, but it didn’t hide the knives well enough for your liking. . . You slipped several more into your boots as you heard Steve’s car pull up. You turned to rush out the door when you paused. One of Bucky’s black suit jackets was draped over the chair by your door. It was far too big for you to wear, but if you draped it over your shoulders . . . You tried it out in the mirror. It worked, hanging off your shoulders like a cape. The extra fabric also provided the cover to your wrists needed to conceal your wrist sheaths better. You grab your phone and head down the stairs to meet Steve.
“Sweetheart, I don’t think this is a good–”
“Well, then it’s a good thing your job isn’t thinking right now, Rogers.” The blatant interruption caught both men off guard. “You’re going to listen carefully because I’m only explaining this once. The story you’ve been fed about the Rumlows taking me in out of the goodness of their hearts is complete and utter bullshit. My mother worked off her debt to them, and I was kept as collateral. She taught me a lot of what she knew. I was raised as a Rumlow and was offered control of the Family because of my brother’s inability to control his temper or play by the rules. You can either do what I tell you, or you can explain to Mr. Barnes when we return why you didn’t accompany me. Are there any questions?” Whether it be the lack of emotion in your eyes or the ice in your voice, you didn’t know, but neither man argued. Wilson was the first one to speak up.
“ . . . Who’s your mom?” You look Sam dead in the eye, smirk, and with a flick of your wrist you impale one of the knives in your wrist sheath in the ground between his feet. Both Sam and Steve go pale with recognition.
“My mother was Lady Death.”
Tumblr media
The Door to the interrogation room blew inward. C4 was such an amazing toy, you were so happy that Sam kept a stash. Hands in your pockets, you step over the twisted remains of the door, the dust settling at your feet. Immediately you hear the click of guns, but that only pulls a sadistic smirk to your face.
“Hello, boys. For those of you who don’t know who I am: look to your elders. For those of you who do: Run.” It was your brother's right hand and childhood friend, Justin, who spoke first.
“Y/N, didn’t expect to see you join the party.” He swaggered up to you, full of confidence that only an upper class white man could possess. He loomed over you, and you weren’t sure if he was trying to be sexy or intimidating. Neither was a good look on him. “What’s your problem, princess? Did we break up your little game of house?” You look up at the taller man, not budging an inch.
“Oh not at all, champ, I just thought I’d give you and your little friends a chance to play in the big leagues. Only three of them? Shouldn’t be much work.”
“Hey, Lady, I don’t know who the fuck you think you are, but –” Justin interrupts him before you have the chance.
“That’s Barnes’s wife, dumbass. She’s the Boss’s adopted sister, and the last person you wanna piss off.”
“She don’t seem so scary, all of her power comes from other people! Why should I–”
“You’d be well to listen to your superiors, or haven’t you learned that yet?” The ice in your voice stopped the newbie dead in his tracks. You stalk towards him, eyes fixed. “Let’s give you a family history lesson, hmm?” You had the undivided attention of all four of the Rumlow thugs. You just needed to keep it that way long enough for Steve and Sam to work into position. You stopped in the dead center of the room “ Justin, how many years ago was Lady Death’s final kill?”
“Uuhh . . . five years? Just before you married Barnes.”
“Good Boy,” you purred, working as much condescension into your voice as you could manage. “And how many years ago did my mother die?” As he did the mental math, Justin began to shift uncomfortably.
“ . . . Seven . . . no, Nine? Nine years ago . . .” As the dots started to connect, the realization began to show on each man’s face. Your smirk grew to a full-on sadistic smile.
“Let’s try this again, gentlemen. Whether or not you know who I am, it’s too late. I’m Lady Death.” The tension is palpable in the air as the newbies eye you, then the door, as if evaluating their chances, but your backup was already in position. From the rafters of the building, four shots rang out. You’d ordered Steve and Sam to aim to kill, but you hadn’t bothered to check their handiwork, simply stepping over the bodies and making your way towards the last door that stood between you and your brother.
The door creaked open, and your rubber soles thudded against the concrete with each step you took. No matter how hardened to violence you were, you had never cared about any of the people on the receiving end of your violence. No matter how hard you tried, nothing could have prepared for the sight that met you on the other side of that godforsaken door. Bucky was sat in a metal chair. His arms were tied behind his back, and a gag was stuffed in his mouth. His white dress shirt had been discarded, and his undershirt was torn. The bridge of his nose was cut, and someone had busted open his left cheek. Dried blood still caked his skin. The moment he saw you, his eyes filled with fury. He fought against his restraints, almost toppling the chair.
“Aaaah, Y/N, nice of you to join us! Can’t have a party without Daddy’s favorite kid,” Brock spat at you. You study your brother, willing your face back to neutrality.
“You know just as well as I do that that isn’t true, Brother mine.” If your calm demeanor threw Brock off guard, he didn’t show it.
“Well, Sister mine, your husband here had the audacity to tell me how to run my people, after refusing to even honor our father. Our father who spoke of him like the Golden Son just for marrying the whore who wormed her way into my life!” By the end of his statement, Brock was screaming. He took a moment and regained his composure.
“Do you really think that was a good move?” As you questioned Brock, you walked over to a spare folding chair. You let the jacket fall from your shoulders, draping it over the back of the chair.
“I can make whatever move I want. Dad may have taught you everything you know, but he taught me everything he knew. That’s the difference here, Wendy. That is what you are, aren’t you? The Wendy to his pathetic troupe of Lost Boys.” Locking eyes with him, your smirk returns.
“See, that’s where you’re wrong, Brock. Dad isn’t the only one who taught me things. My mother lived here too, remember?” Brock’s eyes narrow, tracking you as you slowly close the distance between you and him. “How do you explain the kills on Lady Death’s roster after my mother passed, hmm? Think about it.” You could see the gears turning in Brock’s thick skull before he shook his head.
“You lying bitch, you’re trying to play on my nerves. You turned down this job because you weren’t capable” You interrupt, starting to slide one of your knives from the wrist sheath into your hand.
“I turned that job down because I wasn’t interested. Never mistake my disinterest for being incapable.” You flick your wrist, your knife landing squarely in the meat of Brock’s shoulder.
He lunged at you, and the only thing you could focus on was the exchange of blows. He was a lot faster than you’d anticipated, and you were fairly evenly matched. You registered the pain of his blows connecting multiple times, but you pushed it down and attempted to return the favor. Suddenly, you felt his fist connect with the side of your face, then an arm wrapped around your waist. Brock spun, throwing you across the room. You hit the wall with a sickening smack, the wind being knocked from your lungs. Your brother slowly started stalking towards you. He was breathing heavily and wiped the blood from his upper lip as he walked, never taking his eyes off you. Brock grabbed your jaw, dragging you upwards, and you did the only thing you could think of. You slipped a knife out of your boot, and jammed it into him on your way up. Both you and him fell, Brock’s head hitting the ground with a sickening smack. You hauled yourself up, steadying yourself against the wall. You grabbed your brother by his hair, yanking his head up.
“You’re a fucking disgrace to this family and all that Dad stood for.” You paused, spitting out the blood that was pooling in your mouth.
“What the fuck happened??” You heard Sam shout as he and Steve finally caught up. You looked from your brother to Sam, steeling your gaze.
“Change in management,” you stated. “Send out a notice. Due to extremely reckless behavior that nearly started a war, Brock Rumlow has been removed as Patriarch of the Rumlow family. Its territories and personnel will be merged into White Wolf. Any concerns can be taken up with Lady Death.”
You turn your attention to Bucky, picking up one of your discarded knives to cut the ropes and gag off of him.
“Doll, that has got to be one of the hottest things I’ve ever seen.” Your satisfaction definitely showed on your face. After taking a moment to catch your breath, you pick the discarded suit jacket off the back of the folding chair and hand it to Bucky, leaning on him for support. Bucky pauses, glancing between Steve and Rumlow.
“Bring him back to the office. We’re not going to be done talking for a very long time.”

biggest horse you've ever ridden?
Some big fiesty brumby gelding I got dared to ride (and break). He was gentled and could take halter but you got a saddle on him and he went apeshit. Don't know what the fuck was in his bloodline but he was massive—almost 17h, about 7 or 8 years old, built lithe and lean and wasn't gelded for all his life so had a massive stallion's crest. Beautiful dark bay. He'd be a stunning fucken showhorse. Or a good jumper—had the legs for it.
He was a good lad besides all that stallion-ness still in him. Within two days I got him to take a bridle without fighting the bit and after 6 more days he could take a saddle with weights without trying to buck it off. Taking a rider is different though and that's the closest a horse ever come to throwing me. My height didn't help me at all—legs came down to maybe 3/4 the way from his withers to elbow, which is shorter than I'd like since it makes my spurs more ineffective (seriously finding a horse that's the proper height for you is very important—do not ride a horse too tall for you if that horse isn't also experienced because they won't be able to read your muted signals as well as a horse who knows what it's doing and what to feel for).
But I wasn't there to train him, just break him. So we went at it for about 20 minutes and every time I'd think he were done he'd get a fire under his arse and bolt through the corral again and then start bucking. And horses are usually mobile when they buck—as in, they move around. He didn't. He'd get into a spin in one spot like bulls do, tearing up the ground like a willy.
We did this once in the early morning and then when he'd finally stop bucking I'd spur and walk him a few paces and treat him, and then I'd dismount and tack him down and give him a wash to get the sweat off and a groom. Then we'd do it again late in the evening when the sun was low and it wasn't so bloody hot. Evening of the fourth day he got a few bucks in but didn't spin. Morning of the fifth and he didn't buck at all, took saddle and me like a champion and was calm the whole time minus some annoyed ears.
He was both the tallest and the most spirited bastard I ever had the pleasure of working with and I hope he's well.

hi hello I'm so sorry I just need to let you know I am so crazy /pos for the Callie art I have actually been thinking about the possibility of the hypno shades being addictive for MONTHS and just waiting for someone to be on the same wavelength and the art you did was so crazy awesome I hope you have a great day and that both sides of your pillow are cold and you find like 20 bucks on the ground I'm very normal
aaah thank you so much!!! that's so kind of you :') I hope your pillow is also cool on both sides and that you have an amazing day and you get a nice cup of hot chocolate/ other comforting warm beverage when it is just the right amount of cold outside
I am also normal
but yeah, I think it would be a totally awesome idea and Marie and Four helping Callie when she's withdrawing from them just seems like such a good hurt/comfort fluff and Callie is such an interesting character and it makes a weird little game play thing relevant story-wise
so overall: the vibes are awesome and I'm so happy someone else came up with this idea too!!

Clarisse stood next to Jacaerys, admiring Calla. Jace had word from their mother to be delivered, however Calla was knee deep in prayer at her Mother statue.
“Does she do this often?” Jace asked, looking at Clarisse.
“Do what?” She asked, clueless.
“Sit in these gardens and pray,” he replied. “I feel like whenever she isn’t with us she’s here.”
“She comes here often. She finds great comfort in praying to the mother. She prays for a healthy child as well as a safe return for you and Princess Helaena I am sure,” Clarisse said. “At least that is what she tells me she prays for.”
“Do you not join her?” Jace asked, Looking back towards his sister. “Back in Kingslanding, Helaena often sat with Calla in the sept so she wasn’t alone.”
Clarisse shook her head, smiling softly. “I do not follow the seven. Calla does not require any of her ladies to join her if they don’t wish to. Only Mary joins her at the alter,” she informed. When she lived in Kingslanding, she would attend mass with her mother, but once she moved to Oldtown alongside Calla she no longer did. “She is here for maybe two hours out of everyday? Lord Aegon joins her occasionally. He doesn’t pray as often as she does.”
Jace nodded, humming. “Tell her I have a letter from our mother for her once she is ready to leave,” he said and turned to walk away. Clarisse nodded and walked towards Calla, sitting on the stone bench beside her.
“Do you pretend to pray just so you don’t have to speak with your brother?” Clarisse asked, looking at her.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Calla replied, looking to her right. A smile plastered across her face. “Jacaerys is always trying to get me to involve myself within political matters. I spent 20 years running from that, what in his right mind would cause him to think I’ve changed my mind?” She ranted, throwing her head into her hands. “Does he not get the hint that I don’t care? I’m not Ryah,” she added. “*Valar dohaeris*, he says. We as Targaryens must rule and serve the seven kingdoms is what he believes. God, he sounds like my grandfather.”
“I’m shocked he’s still trying. You’ve moved halfway across the country to escape it,” Clarisse added, chuckling. “Never mind him. He’ll be gone soon.”
Calla looked at Clarisse questionably. “You wish him gone?”
A light blush crawled over Clarisse’s cheeks, she became flustered. “It isn’t that. I just dislike how I must act around you when he is present.”
“You’re jealous you can’t have a hand down my shirt every second when my brother is visiting?” She assures.
Clarisse shook her head vigorously, stuttering. “Calla Targaryen you know what I mean.”
Calla laughed, throwing her head back. “I joke, don’t worry. I dislike it as well. The last thing I need is my mother in my business asking me why a girl is in my bed.”
“You think she doesn’t know?” Clarisse asked, dumbfounded. The two didn’t exactly seem like just friends while growing up.
“Gods I hope not,” she said. “Jace will leave within the next three days and all will be alright.”
“Must we wait?” Clarisse whined. Jace had arrived not even two days ago and she was impatient.
Calla hummed and looked around before smiling and kissing her. “No one will disturb us here,” she said as she pulled away. Clarisse giggled and lunged onto Calla, sending the both of them onto the ground.
They laid in the grass, Clarisse on top of Calla. She moved her kisses down her neck, and onto her chest up to the lace on her dress. Calla’s mouth dropped open slightly as she felt het dress hike up and a cold hand on her thigh. “Princess, I’ve been so eager to get my hands on you. Sharing you isn’t my favorite thing.”
“I like this new attitude,” Calla said, gasping once a hand slid into her panties and a thumb met her clit. “Oh, my god.”
Clarisse hummed as she left a hickey on the other’s neck, trying to keep her still as her hips bucked. “Has your husband not bed you? Why are you shaking so much?”
Calla whined, almost pleading. “Please,” she said, ignoring the other’s question as a pit in her stomach grew. Clarisse clenched her jaw as she moved her hand away, Calla letting out a cry. Clarissa picked up her dress and moved positions, sitting her cunt on Calla’s face. “Since you don’t wanna answer my questions, put your mouth to use.”
She could feel Calla nod under her as she leaned forward, taking Calla’s own clit into her mouth. Clarisse’s mouth trembled as Calla swirled her tongue, sucking on her clit. Her lips shook as she finished under Clarisse, her legs trembling. She pulled away for a breath before continuing to ravage Clarisse’s cunt, sucking until she felt her clit tremble. Clarisse hurried her head into the fabric of Calla’s dress as she came, letting out quieting moans into the silk.
Clarisse rolled onto her back, her legs still shaking. “I have been waiting to feel your pretty mouth again.”
“And I yours,” Calla said, sitting up and looking at Clarisse. “I’ve been waiting for your everything.”
The two girls soon walking out of their gardens, Calla’s braids half falling out and Clarisse’s eye makeup was smudged.
Her guard Patrick sat outside the gates, giving a glance at the girls once they walked out. “Your brother requests your presence at once, Princess,” he said before looking them up and down. “Do you wish a moment to get refreshes?”

Hello-! this question has bugged me for the better part of almost a week now, and your recent answers have made it claw its way back into the forefront of my mind.
Lilith and Cobalt were part of the military before settling in Fontston (correct me if im wrong with the spelling) for permanent residency where they grew their family, yes?
Ok- this is a big one, I hope it answers your question. Sorry in advance!
**CW: mentions of Abuse, violence, and death.**
Yes. For about 10 years. They were in their late 20s (27-29) when they got married and retired. This happens about two years after the Fonston Freeze. So in the timeline the last time Lilith and Rose see each other is when they are in their 20's.
Mr. Marigold is hitting the girls as children and Lilith is the younger sister. She and Rose are terrified of what their father has planned out for them in regard to overhearing their prospective fiancés are going to be old businessmen and rather horrid people.
Lilith heard her father outside of his office talking on the phone about how "I have two daughters and I'm sure you can find a use for one of them. You may just have to smack them around. Works fine for me!" Then laughter.
Lilith tells Rose and they are horrified and make a plan to escape this life of abuse. Lilith is about 17 at the time and Rose is 18. Rose needs to find a husband and seeks out the help of a new fling in the form of Goudy, who is actually really sweet, kind, and loving to Rose.
They are smitten and head over heels for each other, but Rose knows Goudy needs to appear 'strong-willed' to her father to gain his approval for their marriage. So, in public, he adopts a very anal, and strict personality which we see become is actual personality at the time the fic takes place. (Really, Rose and Edward 'Goudy's first name' (Edward Goudy) trick Mr. Marigold to get Rose out of a bad situation.
Lilith is still a year too young to find a husband, so is put on a cart at night with materials and stows away with supplies to last her a while. And for her own safety, she is dressed as a man. It works and eventually she is mistaken for a soldier by a general who scolds her for losing her uniform and they 'adopt' her into the unit where she meets Cobalt, who at first is suspicious of her and doesn't trust her nor like her. Eventually she spills the truth to him about where she came from and the fact she's a woman.
He helps her hide her identity and eventually they fell in love and moved into Old Centry, where they were off duty and still active in the war effort. They have three children during this time, which is in the order of Jett, Buck, and the reader. Old Centry is burned to the ground and the family flees.
Lilith is badly injured during the siege of Old Centry but manages to escape with her husband and children. Having nowhere to go, Cobalt takes them back to Fonston where they buy the current land and built the house that we have in the story. The Fonston Freeze happens the winter before Old Centry is burned to the ground and Rose dies due to this. (Old Centry burns in the following spring.)
Lilith and Cobalt have one final child, which makes Lilith weaker due to a chronic illness caused by her injuries from the Siege. She dies a few weeks after giving birth to Whip.
Rose and Lilith never saw each other again before they died. They did write letters as often as they could to each other, though.
Point being, the Golden girls had it rough.
