I'm rewriting Jason's resurrection and reconciliation with the fam for my own sanity:
Jason dies tragically and horrifically at age 15
A year later, Superboy Prime punches through universes, collapsing two realities onto each other: one where Jason dies, the other in which he survives. Jason comes back to life but is semi-conscious. Talia finds him and takes him to the League
Jason regains full consciousness after a dip in the Lazarus. For two years, Jason trains and slowly regains his memories. Once he's 18, he decides to return to Gotham, despite Talia's wishes
Quickly becomes clear that Gotham hasn't changed much, which disappoints Jason. He decides to put his League training to use and control crime as a harm reduction tactic, and he goes back and forth on contacting Bruce, especially after he hears rumors of a new Robin
Joker pops up with a new scheme, and this is the last straw. Jason concocts a plan to kidnap and finally kill Joker and confront Batman about all the ways he's failed him and Gotham. When Batman refuses to kill Joker, Jason feints like he's going to kill Tim to "save him the trouble" since Batman clearly cares so little for his sidekicks. ("Hey, kid, at least I'll make it painless.") This gets a reaction from Batman, who incapacitates Jason and rescues Robin. Jason retreats to lick his wounds and reconsider everything
Jason takes time to ruminate on all of this. He's still hurt that his death meant nothing in the grand scheme of things but thinks about Batman's reaction to Tim being in danger and has to wonder if that's how he acted when Jason was in that warehouse
Out of morbid curiosity and a little bit of fanboyishness, Tim monitors Jason. Jason knows this and eventually confronts him. He feels bad for scaring Tim but has to maintain his edge so he tries not to be too scary. At some point, Tim speaks his mind and tells Jason that he has no idea what things were like while he was dead. "Batman was a mess, he almost killed people. That's why I became Robin. I had to put him back together, so you don't get to act like you know everything that happened the past 3 years because you been back a couple months." Jason takes this in. They part ways. (Jason: "Don't die." Tim: "Don't change.")
The Chemo incident happens. Jason rushes to Blüdhaven to make sure Dick is alive and okay, thus revealing he's alive to the Titans. After the dust settles, he and Dick talk privately so that Dick can react properly. (Dick: "No, Batman didn't tell me." Jason: "Yeah, he has a habit of doing that.")
Jason gets to ask if Tim's claim of Batman being a mess is founded. It is. He asks Dick if it's worth doing things the same way. "It is." That doesn't help.
Eventually Jason and Bruce have their equivalent of a heart to heart. Basically they both go, "I love you even if I think you're wrong."
Jason forms the Outlaws, but the moment he gets the distress call from the fam, he comes rushing back to help. He's offended that Bruce is surprised (Tim is hopeful, Dick isn't remotely shocked)
When Dick "dies," Jay comes back to take his place as Eldest Son. He sticks around through the end of the Robin War
Other important events that definitely happen but just don't fit neatly into a timeline:
Barbara and Jason team up on a mission shortly after Bruce tells Barbara that Jason is back. She's happy and immediately falls into big sister/mother hen mode and chides him for not seeing her sooner and makes him promise to stop by the clocktower regardless of whatever is happening between him and Bruce. She promises to help him upgrade his tech if he does. (Barbara has always been more lenient with killers and believes wholly in second chances.)
Cass stops Jason from killing someone who "deserves it," resulting in them fighting. Cass is better trained but she refuses to kill Jason, who won't stop. Eventually, they call a ceasefire and talk a bit. "All life has meaning," Cass says. Jason scoffs. "Even the Joker's?" "All life," she insists. Jason quietly disagrees but he respects Cass's determination. This starts a back and forth of him testing her anytime they're grouped together. ("Even this lowlife, Cass?" or "She's worth your own life?" or "They wouldn't spare you, why bother?") Each and every time she sticks to her principles.
Jay and Steph grab food together after a patrol one night and bond over being the family outcasts (i.e. the ones Bruce doesn't implicitly trust). Jason vows to make Steph his Robin if he ever becomes Batman. She laughs but is secretly touched
***I can never decide what to do with Damian. On the one hand, it's hilarious if Jason knows about him and keeps quiet about it. On the other, I don't see why Jason wouldn't tell Bruce about Damian's existence. Maybe once he's on speaking terms with Bruce again, he does tell him about Damian, which then prompts Jason to encourage Talia to let Damian meet Bruce. This is accelerated by Talia discovering Ra's' plan for Damian and wanting to get Damian away from the League

Sweeter than fiction (CS55)
Carlos Sainz x Reader
Warnings: the loviest doviest one shot you’ll read
————————————————————————
Seeing Carlos on the top of the podium, made my heart so full, that I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life. His smile was so radiant and radiated so much positive energy. As soon as he crossed the line, I immediately took off my headset and run to the front of the field that was gathering around the podium celebration.
We all cheered when Checo and Lewis appeared but I let out the biggest scream when Carlos walked up. This season has had a few difficult moments, especially the unfair DNF’s and him being unable to show what he is truly capable of achieving.
I started humming the Spanish national anthem and was staring at the winner of the British Grand Prix. When he finally caught me with his eyes, his smile grew bigger and a wink came my way. Both of the guys on his sides were looking proudly at Carlos. A first win is always exciting and they know it firsthand.
When he was given the trophy, he lifted it up in the air like a little kid. His eyes were glowing, whilst mine, Rupert and Onõro’s were full of tears. Happy tears. We’ve been here since the beginning and now the story in unfolding.
Carlos’s Pov
Winning this Grand Prix is surely thrilling! I thought this time wouldn’t come but it did! And I am more than happy it happened at this time of my life. Perfect timing as they say!
Looking down, I spot Y/N with a smile bigger than the whole sky, and alongside her, hugging her are Carlos and Rupert. All three of them crying. I’ve never seen her cry before. I only want to see her laugh and be happy, but I feel like these are tears of happiness.
All three of them have stuck beside me since forever. Carlos and Y/N coming to my karting races and Regional Formula races, cheering and coming to congratulate me the moment I got out of the car. From the early days at Toro Rosso to my second year in Ferrari. During the good and bad days they’ve helped me with everything.
Especially Y/N. From being my childhood best friend and my sisters teasing us about getting married one day, to us actually being a couple and attached to the hip. I love her more than anyone can describe. She’s happy when I’m happy, sad when I’m sad. Always comforts me and takes care of me.
I wanted to run down and kiss her so badly. I want to wipe the tears from her beautiful face and give her the biggest hug. She doesn’t know that if it wasn’t for her, I would have given up. She gives me strength and motivation. Even during the weekends she can’t come to the race, even her motivational videos and messages fuel me!
Y/N Pov
When the celebration was over, I run back to the Ferrari garage to first of all comfort Charles. Not going to lie, I would have loved to see him on the podium today, but Carlos on top made me the happiest woman alive.
“Hey Cha. Great job today! I am very proud of you”
He gave me a faint smile as I went in for a hug. He is trying so hard for this championship and the pressure is obvious.
“Thank you y/n. I did try my best but apparently wasn't enough. Congratulations to Carlos though. First win, must be very exciting. I congratulated him over the radio, but thought to do it in person after he sees you”
“I am very happy for him. But seeing you as a duo on the podium is more pleasant”
“It will come soon. I hope so. Go and find the winner and we will talk again”
“You've got this Charles. Keep your head up. I believe in you”
I find the door of Carlos’s room and knock on the door gently. I fear he may have been talking to someone else.
“Come in” he replies and I peak my head inside the room only to witness a semi naked Carlos. His fireproof was off and his suit has reached his waist. His hair were a big mess but all I could focus on was my boyfriends big smile
“Felicidades mi amor! I am so incredibly proud of you”
I run towards him and hug him so tight, as if I hadn’t seen him in years. He smelled like champagne. The smell of a winner.
“I couldn’t have done this without you! You’re an angel!”
Carlos begun leaving small kisses on my lips and forehead as I was running my fingers through his hair. Those small reassuring gestures are what make me believe in love. People may think Carlos isn’t the touchy type of guy but I haven’t received more hugs and kisses from anyone but him.
“I love you! You can’t imagine how happy I am right now. When you crossed the line, I let out the biggest scream of joy, I think Mattia won’t allow me to step into the garage again.”
“What did I do to deserve you? I don’t know how you’ve put up with me all those years. I owe you my life”
“Like I said, I love you. And I will never leave your side, whether you win or not. I’m here to stay”
“You’re my forever Y/N”

I’ve actually been thinking a lot about this lately:
I only have one full-blooded sibling, my older brother, but I have 3 younger half-siblings.
I grew up with my older full brother who is two years older and my younger half brother who was born when I was about six years old. His dad was my stepfather and he is my mom’s third and final child. His dad (my stepdad) died when I was 20 years old and my little brother was about 14.
My older full brother lives in a different state now and I haven’t seen him in 5 years although we talk on messenger quite often. We fought and argued a lot growing up, but we’re semi close now and we always have a great time when we get together…although that isn’t very often anymore. He’s hoping to come visit in December, and I’m excited because we haven’t spent any time together since 2018.
The younger half brother I grew up with lives in the same city, and I get to see him about three or four times a year. We’re both married and have families now, so we don’t spend as much time together as we would like but it’s always nice when I get to hang with him at birthday parties for our kids and that sort of thing. Overall, I would rate my relationship with my older brother and my immediate younger brother as being very good: They’re both very smart hard-working guys and they both have a wicked sense of humor.
My birth parents divorced when I was about three, my dad basically dropped off the face of the Earth until I was almost seven and then came back in my life albeit on a very limited basis. My dad remarried in about 1988 and in 1990 my youngest half brother was born. I was 11, my brother was born three months premature and nearly died several times…most of us were pretty sure he wouldn’t make it, but he defied the odds and is alive today and just turned 33 years old.
Then my half sister, my youngest sibling, was born in 1993. Their mother, my stepmom, an amazing woman who loved me like I was her own child unfortunately died of cancer in 2004 when my brother was 14 and my sister was 11.
This is where things get dicey, and why my relationship with the two of them is weird to say the least:
Immediately after their mother’s death, my dad tried to take care of his two youngest but he was dealing with severe bipolar disorder and substance-abuse issues so he couldn’t even take care of himself. He still can’t, but that’s an entirely different story.
Long story short, my little brother and little sister went to go live with a guardian who was their mom’s best friend. This lady is a real piece of work, I could write an entire article about her as well, but suffice it to say my sister got herself kicked out when she was 13 and my brother continued to live with this lady until he was 18.
Once again, my dad tried to swoop in and take care of my sister, but that went South immediately and my wife and I recognized that whole situation was not going to be healthy for her. We ended up renting a place from my in-laws and becoming her guardian right around the time she turned 14. I should note that my sister and I had had a very close relationship up to that point, and that continued for several months after she came to live with us…but she ended up bringing baggage that I did not know how to address, especially since I myself was only 28 at the time, and my own child had it not yet been born.
I would love to say that my wife and I built this caring, nurturing environment and we were able to raise my sister effectively, but that would be a lie. I did not know how to handle that child, I did not know how to parent my youngest sibling, we got her counseling after I found out that she was on drugs but the counselor was completely useless. We ended up both resenting each other, and she moved out right when she turned 18 just a few months before graduating from high school.
As for my younger half-brother who was born premature, he continued to have significant developmental delays despite being an incredibly intelligent kid. He has ADHD and autism along with some motor impairments, but he was able to sporadically keep a job now and then. The guardian he was living with (the same one who took my sister out) wanted to enroll him in a skills program after he graduated High School and put him in a group home so that he would have someone to continue to look out for him, but my dad once again in the midst of one of his bipolar mania episodes decided he was going to get off disability and use his aircraft engineering knowledge to apply to Lockheed Martin in Palmdale California working in the F-22 program and take my brother out there with him to live
Well, they get out there, everything is going fine until Lockheed finds out about a DUI that my dad failed to report. He doesn’t get the job, they end up stranded in a trailer in the middle of nowhere, somehow or another they ended up in Utah staying in the backyard of an old girlfriend of my dad’s and my poor brother nearly froze/starved to death of there while my dad wallowed in his deep bipolar depression. This went on for a year or so, we had no contact from them at all. By the time we heard from them again, they had made it down to Phoenix, and were using their disability income to rent a place.
They made it down here to Phoenix right before my sister graduated from high school in 2011. The three of them had various living arrangements in which sometimes my sister would be shacking up with random people, and then the three of them would live together for a brief periods of time. Mostly, it was my dad and my brother living in terrible roach-infested apartments they could barely afford while my sister would sponge money off of them. My brother would get a job delivering Grubhub and my dad would drive for Lyft. The problem is, my dad is a scary and terrible driver, so he frightened too many passengers to be able to continue doing that and destroyed the brand new car he got.
oh, and my dad is a disabled veteran, so at one point they got a VA loan and bought a brand new house in Sun City West. I’m sad to say I was absolutely enraged because at that point I was finishing grad school and working two jobs to support my disabled wife and young daughter and I had never owned a house in my life, meanwhile their lazy incompetent asses get to move into a brand new one?
Anyway, what happened there was my dad didn’t make money for several months due to his bipolar depression and mangled car, my brother can’t pay for anything, and they get kicked out of the new house. No, I didn’t feel good about that, I felt horrible
As toxic as all of this sounds, I assure you it’s much worse than what I’m putting here. I’m leaving so much out.
My sister moved up to Seattle to get away from them, and they ended up following her a couple years later. They lived together briefly up there, but then my dad had a stroke. She tried to step in and help but the toxicity of their dynamic was too much for her and she moved out and took her income and resources with her. As for my dad and my brother, they lost their apartment.
My sister had a motorhome parked on the property of some dude she was sleeping with, my brother lived there with her for several months and they all ran out of money while his health suffered tremendously. My dad ended up in a family group home paid for by Medicaid, and my sister ended up dumping my brother off at a homeless shelter where he has been for 10 months now.
All three of them have severe mental health challenges which make relationship maintenance very difficult, so my feelings about my brother and my sister are tainted by that. My wife and I have done a tremendous amount of work with my brothers social worker to reestablish his public aid benefits, and try to get him out of there, but the problem is he’s comfortable and doesn’t want to leave . So there we are. My sister drops in on Facebook every now and then, but most of the time I have no idea where the hell she is.
people with siblings: how do you feel about them?

hiii! Love your headcanons! Thanks for posting them again. I was wondering if you had any ideas of bellamy and clarke perhaps canon verse not only having children themselves but adopting any too? thank youuu
This got super long, so I’ll put it under cut as not to annoy everyone, I’m so sorry but I hope that’s okay?
they're perhaps in their mid-thirties. or well Bellamy is, Clarke just turned 31 this fall. after more than eight years on the ground in some sort of semi-peace, they finally feel like they've found balance or at least they're looking ahead and not thinking like everything would be nothing but doom and gloom;
they had split away from Arkadia a few years ago and Clarke and Bellamy put everything into making this camp what it should be; negotiating the piece of land from the commander wasn't easy but they knew that Clarke, Bellamy and the rest of the delinquents had in fact more to offer than the adults who were struggling and constantly seeking conflict in Arkadia, so they agreed;
the summer after, they were granted the small valley between Trikru and Flokru was one of the most horrible and beautiful ones at the same time; he got constantly hurt from building the cabins, the walls and preparing the place for the coming winter-he'd come to clarke with broken bones, bruised ribs, big or small cuts form the axe, splinters, infections and whatnot;
she was mad out of her mind and wanted to tie him to a tree;
perhaps that combined with the burning sexual frustration was what finally made them get over themselves and come together; well that and Madi-the girl Clarke had found and brought home when she found her in the forest in those three months she spent away from home after mount weather;
the kid was rooting for them and so were the rest of the delinquents;
soon enough the cabin Bellamy was building for Madi and Clarke became the one they were making for their little family;
Madi was happy, beaming, at just seven she was already a menace and had a certain type of sadness in her eyes but she would constantly climb on Bellamy's back and ask Octavia to teach her how to fight with wooden swords;
they were happy but that didn't mean everything was running smoothly; their first winter was the hardest with lots of food rationing and the flu hitting them pretty bad; Madi had gotten so sick, Clarke went out of her mind with worry and in the middle of a freezing winter night Bellamy rode to the neaby Trikru village so Nyko could help her survive;
she did and she was weak for months after but she was there and Clarke had breathed a little easier;
they got officially married in the river the following summer with their friends yepping and Madi tying their hands with a red string colored by their blood from the cuts they made on their palms with a knife;
by fall, Clarke was pregnant; it was a surprise; they were talking about kids but they weren't working on making one right away; when it happened, though, as scary as they were, they both got really happy;
Madi herself was exctatic, impatient to be a big sister;
giving birth to Gus was hard, though; there were complications and even though Bellamy had brought her to Arkadia, to Abby for it all, so they'd make sure everything was fine, things still got out of control; she had bled too much and lost consciousness; a fever ran through her and her blood pressure was too high even after Gus came into the world;
Bellamy held their tiny baby boy in his arms and sat by her side, begging her to get better; when she woke up, a few days later, he swore that he finally felt his heart beat again-it was as if it had stopped when she was unconscious and came back alive with her;
she was unstable for the months to follow-her fever wouldn't come down right away and she was wobbly on her feet, like she was sick; her mom said she had to take it easy, rest more, focus on Gus and their family but Bellamy wasn't sure Clarke understood what the word "rest" meant and even if she did, she ignored it and tried to fight him at every corner;
he was spreading himself a little too thin trying to take care of Gus, Madi, Clarke and the camp which of course couldn't keep on for too long;
it was early January when he went out hunting and slipped down a hill pretty bad, breaking his leg in two places while trying to kill off a boar with his knife; his tusk broke the skin of his right side and went in deep, making him lose a lot of blood;
this time Abby and Nyko came together in trying to help him out-one with traditional medicine and the other with herbs and compresses that were supposed to ease his pain but even they weren't sure he'd survive;
he did, by some kind of miracle he did and he woke up to Madi cuddled on his good side and Gus asleep on his stomach with Clarke's hand in his as she napped on the chair by his bedside;
walking was never the same after that; as much as he tried, he got better but a small limp remained; it was more pronounced in the morning and at night and his bone hurt more than he was willing to admit but he mostly got back to the way things were or so he hoped;
it was in the spring festival after that winter that he met Micah; he was a sixteen year old boy with a limp just like his own and a big vertical scar on his face that started from his forehead and went to his cheek; perhaps that was also the reason why his left eye looked a little misty, like it couldn't see well or at all either;
Bellamy wasn't sure why his eyes lingered on him but they did and he asked Indra about him; "His dad died from his heart when he was just a baby and his mom and him were attacked by a bear when he was seven. She died and he barely survived"
"So he's got no one?" Indra nodded "Who takes care of him?"
"He's mostly on his own but we help out when he needs us to."
"He's just a child." Bellamy commented.
"So were your delinquents when they landed, remember?" she reminds him and he nods but he can't help but feel like he needs to do something "He's a good healer, has a natural talent for it and I hear you and Clarke could use someone like this in your camp. I can talk to him if you want?"
"No...I will." and so he approaches Micah. He's just a boy, looks younger than sixteen really but his eyes don't really show any emotion. Indra has warned him about being quiet.
"Hey." he had introduced himself and the boy looked up from his medical bag "My name's Bellamy Blake. I'm with the skai people." Micah stood up and watched him with suspicion "Indra told me you're a good healer and we could really use someone like that now." the boy studied him, dragged his eye from head to bottom before looking up again.
"I'm still learning." he finally mumbled.
"That's okay with us. Nyko's village is by our camp, you can still go and have lessons with him but we can teach you some stuff too. My wife, she-"
"Wanheda?"
"Her name's Clarke." Bellamy continued without letting this affect him "She could show you things too. We need doctors, healers and from what I hear you're good at it. We can help you become even better." Micah considered him suspiciously but didn't say anything. Just then Clarke appeared with Madi and Gus strapped to her chest, sneaking an arm under his elbow.
"Hey-" she said softly "Who's this?"
"This is Micah, he's a healer from Trikru. I was asking if he wanted to come join us." Clarke smilled and reached out for his hand that the boy took with uncertainty. She told him it's good to see him and said she would like to have someone helping her out at camp when everyone got sick or someone was hurt "Speaking of that, we should go back to our room. You've been on your feet all day, it's not good for your leg." he rolled his eyes but kissed her forehead.
"I'm fine." he promised and covered Gus' head with his own. Micah seemed surprised when he heard all of this "We'll see you around, kid." he watched Bellamy limp away and the little girl jump at him and try to get on his back which he let her do despite his pain. Clarke smilled and scolded the girl while the baby made a cute gurgling sound in her chest.
they were a family; something he's never had;
he decided to agree and go back to camp with them; at first things were rough and Bellamy had the hardest time cracking the walls the kid had put around himself; he'd sleep in the open, under a tree and eat things he found himself like apples or a rabbit he killed; he'd avoid the others and wouldn't get anywhere near them;
he worked well with Clarke and taught her a lot but he was still quiet and wouldn’t open up; she thought she'd be the one to push through and get to him but it was actually Bellamy who suceeded;
he took it slowly-asking the kid out to hunt with him, accompanying him for herb gatherings or to Nyko's village when he needed to be there to learn something new; it was when one day his leg was giving him a lot of trouble, though that he went to Micah and not Clarke with it that they broke the ice;
the boy made a compress with a herb paste and some nasty smelling stuff before brewing him tea; "You should use a stick when it's bad like this." Micah said surprising Bellamy by speaking out first "It's stupid that you don't do it."
"Do you?"
"Yes. In the winter bones hurt more, you have to let yourself lean on something."
"Sounds like good advice. Maybe you should consider it too." Micah looked up from where he was wrapping up Bellamy's knee and grunted "How about dinner tonight at our place?"
"I don't know..."
"It'll be my way of repaying you." so Micah agrees, maybe because he's too tired of being so alone, maybe because he's seen bellamy's heart and realized how good it is, maybe because he's played with Madi some more and liked having her around as much as she was pestering him or perhaps because Clarke brought Gus to Micah when the kid was having toothache and needed something to help him out;
they trusted him and he was tired of being on his own; it took months to actually break all of his walls and bring him home; they made a bed for him in Madi's room and he teared up at the sight of it; he was still cautious but he was letting himself feel things and be a part of something he never thought he would-a family;
"They're goofy but they're good, you'll see. They saved my life." Madi told him once while she was rocking Gus' crib "Bellamy cries at the smallest stuff sometimes like when I brought him a picture from school or when Gus sat up for the first time. Mama's more stern but she'll love you more than anything in the world...if you let her."
"Mama?" Micah had asked tearing up himself for the first time "We can call her that?" Madi nods;
"Of course we can...brother." that made Micah beam and he let Madi wrapped her arms around him and hug him tightly;
in the fall, a little after Gus one year birthday, she finds out she's pregnant again and this time it's supposed to be a girl; somehow that makes everything harder because it's clear she's coming with an attitude and Bellamy, despite his worries about her, can't stop joking about it;
he's rubbing his hand over her bump a few months later after they had just made love for the second time that night and letting his head rest on her soft chest; they're talking about their lives and how good it would feel to watch Micah, madi and Gus welcome the baby;
"I never asked you...what made you fight for Micah?"
"I don't know...I saw him standing there and I just...I looked the same way when I was sixteen and I had a sister hiding under the floor and a really tired mom who's forgotten what being a parent actually meant"
"You were carrying the world on your shoulders."
"And I didn't want him to have to do it too. I hated seeing him alone just like you did Madi. I couldn't take it and I know it hasn't been easy but...I'm glad he's here."
"So am I." Clarke kissed his head and ran her fingers through his curls while her other hand found his over her naked bump where their little girl was kicking, demanding attention "And I couldn’t be happier with our little family.”
“Little? You’re carrying our fourth.”
“We still have time for a few more.” she whispered in her daydream “Another boy maybe, to keep company to Gus and Micah. Cassie would drive them nuts.”
“So you agreed with my chosen name?”
“Greek goddess with a nice touch to it? Yep, it’s approved.” he sighed and moved up to capture her lips with his thinking how he’s the luckiest guy on the planet.

family outing.
50 Wordless Ways to Say “I Love You”: 29. Tucking their hair behind their ear to help them get it out of their face.
Pairing: Five Hargreeves x Reader
Word Count: 1,436 words
Warning: Mild swearing
[A/N: Mild S2 spoilers!]
“So,” Vanya’s brow furrows, “Five met you after the apocalypse?”
“Yep.” Leaning against her car, you cross your arms and sigh dreamily. “Hate at first sight. He almost shot me in the head.”
“… With a gun?”
You grin. “Well, he couldn’t’ve shot me with a Twinkie.”
Vanya looks ahead at where Five is talking to some middle-aged guy, his expression friendly and polite. What a businessman. Her eyes narrow in shocked disbelief. “This is crazy,” she murmurs. “My family is crazy.”
Your grin widens as she shakes her head. Something about her mannerisms helps you realize why Five is so fond of her, though he’s never said it outright. She’s definitely your favorite of the bunch. Sans murderous intent.
“Some types of crazy can be good,” you reply, nudging her arm. “But your family’s got all of them and it’s gonna get real messy. Time to spice up your little farm life, Vanya.”
She chuckles a little awkwardly and shrugs. “I just hope I’ll have time to talk to them. Again, I mean. Maybe I’ll remember something when we’re all together.”
“Yeah. Maybe.” Noticing Five bidding farewell to the man, you push yourself off the bumper and wave at him. “Any luck, Five?”
He points down the street behind you as he walks back over. “Plano Street Rooming House for Solitary Men,” he answers. “It’s just a few blocks from here.”
“How do you know he’s there?” Vanya asks.
“I really doubt Luther would live anywhere else.”
You snort, raising your hands in surrender when Five returns it with a semi-faux withering look. With a sigh, he shakes his head and opens the rear passenger door, gesturing for you to get in.
As Vanya starts the car and turns into the street, you look through the rearview mirror at Five as he tells her where to go. Despite being stuck in a thirteen-year-old body, he still has that resting glower of his that makes him look perpetually stressed.
(Of course, it’s not just a matter of looking stressed – he is definitely stressed. Wound up tighter than a spring. You’ll probably need to force him to sit down and relax for at least a half-hour tonight before he explodes.)
His hair is a little disheveled, so you reach over to brush it out of his eyes. It doesn’t really work, but just going through the familiar motion grounds you somehow. “You know,” you muse as Five glances back at you, “Luther’s probably living there, but I doubt he’ll be in right now. He’s probably with Ruby somewhere.”
“Even if he is, we can ask around. I assume that at least one person there knows his business.”
He absently lifts a hand to smooth his hair back, and you smile. “Good point.”
—
“Hello, do you know Luther Hargreeves by any chance?”
After some door-to-door work, someone from Luther’s hall finally answers your knock. He’s a burly man, though not nearly as big as Luther, and obviously drunk off his rocker. Definitely solitary. He squints at the three of you through red, puffy eyes.
“Luther? Yeahhh, I know ‘im. Huge bloke. Real hairy.”
“That’s the one,” Five confirms. “You see, we’re his brother and sister. He hasn’t visited home lately and we’re pretty worried, so we’re just wondering if you know where he is.”
Burly picks at his teeth. “Brother n’ sister, eh? Well,” he rumbles, “I dunno where he is, but I know some of the boys are gonna watch ‘im fight tonight.”
“Where’s the fight?” Vanya asks.
The man regards her with suspicion. “Well, it ain’t a place for a little lady like you.” He swirls his beer around in its bottle, then jabs a finger at all of you. “Don’t want you three squealing to the cops, either.”
“We won’t,” you assure him, smiling sweetly. “We just want to check on Luther.”
With a little more cajoling, you finally obtain the time and place for Luther’s fight before the man waves you away with a grunt, slamming his door shut. You give your companions a self-satisfied grin before descending the staircase back down to street level. Worked like a charm. (You suspect your youthful looks probably helped a lot, though.)
“How’d you do that?” Vanya wonders as the three of you step out onto the sidewalk.
“Simple,” you respond. “I have a knack for sweeping tough guys off their feet.”
You wink secretly at Five. He rolls his eyes, the minutest of smiles at the corner of his mouth, before ushering you and Vanya back to the Chevy.
Your little trio spends the next few hours driving and poking around, looking for Luther or Klaus or Allison. The optimist in you hopes you’ll run across at least one of them. But Dallas is a big place, and darkness begins to fall around 5:30 without a single sighting.
“Dammit.” Five clicks his tongue as you exit a paint shop alone.
“At least we know where Luther will be,” you point out, shoving your hands in your pockets. “How about we get something to eat before we head to the fight?”
Vanya unlocks the car. “There’s a place I know close by,” she says, lips quirking up. “They have sandwiches and donuts there.”
You pat her back. “Sounds great, Vanya. Five? You’ve got to eat something, too.”
Your favorite number crosses his arms as you and Vanya stare at him expectantly. “We’ll get something quick,” he eventually says.
The trip only takes a few minutes. The three of you get sandwiches and a donut each and unwrap them on the bench outside the bakery.
“Sissy and Harlan and I get something from here whenever we go into town,” Vanya says, finishing the last of her sandwich and picking her donut up. “It’s pretty good.”
“So good,” you agree. Lands alive, sitting out here like this makes you nostalgic. Ignoring the upcoming doomsday and the ‘60′s aesthetic, it feels like you’re back in 1927 again, staying out past curfew with your peers. You smile to yourself and look down at your half-finished maple bar. Best to enjoy it while it lasts.
A finger quickly sweeps your brow, tucking a lock of hair out of your face. You blink and glance over at Five, but he’s looking across the street and starting on his own pastry. (Apple fritter. Perhaps you’ll ask him one day why he always gets those.)
Heart feeling even softer than before, you lean silently against his side. He doesn’t move.
After a moment, Five speaks up. “When we were kids, I brought you to this donut shop near the academy a couple times.”
“You did?” Vanya asks.
“Yeah. Griddy’s.” Oh, the one near the academy. The one that had gotten destroyed along with everything else in 2019. He gestures at the last bit of donut – plain, glazed – in her hands. “You usually got that kind.”
She raises her eyebrows, looking into her napkin. “Oh, wow. I guess it must’ve been a subconscious choice or something, then.”
“Hm.”
“You know, I’m glad we found you, Vanya,” you offer warmly. “I didn’t … really have time to get to know you the last time we met.”
A smile spreads across her face. “Same here. For both things, I mean. Not that I’d know much about our first meeting.” She pauses, examining you for a second, then blurts, “Can I ask you something?”
“Shoot.”
She awkwardly motions between you and her brother. “Are you and Five …?”
“Partners,” you finish, “in every sense of the word. From what I know, at least.” With a grin, you turn to Five. “Is that more or less right?”
He rolls his eyes fondly. “Unfortunately,” he mutters as you move to smooth his hair back again. He sure had lovely hair when he was a kid – not that you didn’t appreciate his looks back in your Commission days. This de-aging thing really knocks you for a loop sometimes.
Vanya nods, still looking vaguely confused. “Okay. I don’t want to make things weird, I just – well, you two are kind of … young –”
“Believe me, we’re much older than we look,” you quip, standing up. “But that’s a tale for another time. We gotta go.”
Disposing of your trash, you join the others into the Chevy and start your next journey to Luther Hargreeves. Radio turned off, the leather seat squeaks as you lean back and listen to Vanya and Five murmuring in the front.
To see the siblings together again makes you glow inside, a bit of calm before the inevitable storm. You drink it in as much as you can.

My Top Ten Overlooked Movies With Female Leads In No Particular Order
Note: When you see this emoji (⚠️) I will be talking about things people may find triggering, which are spoilery more often then not. I mention things that I think may count as triggers so that people with them will be aware before going in to watch any of these.
Edited: 3/16/21
Hanna (2011)
So, before I get into why you should watch this movie, I just want to take a moment to say why it's near and dear to my heart. Growing up as a queer kid in the early 2000s, seeing portrayals of people like or similar to myself on anything was rare at best. It was mostly in more "adult" movies or shows that my parents would occasionally let me watch with them that I'd see any lgbtq+ rep at all. Often times they were either walking stereotypes, designed to be buried, evil, or all three.
Then here comes this PG-13 action thriller with a wonderfully written main female lead who, at the time, was close to my age, and who got to kiss another girl (her very first friend, Sophie) on screen in an extremely tender and heartwarming scene. To say the least, it was a life changing moment for me personally.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, Hanna is a suspenseful movie about a child super-soldier named, you guessed it, Hanna (played by Saoirse Ronan) and her adoptive (?) father Erik Heller (played by Eric Bana) exiting the snowy and isolated wilderness of their home and taking on the shadowy CIA operative, Marissa Wiegler (played by Cate Blanchette) who wants Erik dead and Hanna for herself for mysterious reasons.
It also has an amazing soundtrack by the Chemical Brothers, great action scenes, and it has an over arching fairytale motif, which I'm always a sucker for.
⚠️ Mild blood effects, some painful looking strikes, various character deaths, and child endangerment all feature in this film. However, given its PG-13 rating, a majority of viewers are presumably able to handle this one. Still, be aware of these going in.
Sidenote: It's recently gotten a TV adaptation on Amazon TV, although I have not watched it, and do not know if Hanna and Sophie's romantic/semi-romantic relationship has transferred over.
A Simple Favor
A Simple Favor is a "black-comedy mystery thriller" centered entirely around the relationship between two mothers, the reclusive, rich, mysterious, and regal Emily (played by Blake Lively), and the local recently widowed but plucky mommy blogger, Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick). When Emily suddenly goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to find out what happened to her new best friend.
It's a fantastic and entertaining movie throughout, with fun, flawed and interesting characters. The relationship between the two female leads is also implied to be at least somewhat romantic in nature, and they even share a kiss.
⚠️ The only major warnings I can think of is that the movie contains an instance of incest and one of the main plotlines revolves around child abuse, although both of these potentially triggering topics are not connected to each other, so there is thankfully no csa going on.
Edit: I legitimately forgot there was drug use in this movie until now. So, yeah, if that's a trigger, be careful of that.
I Am Mother
I became mildly obsessed with this movie when it came out. I Am Mother is a sci-fi film that centers entirely around a cast of two woman, and a female-adjacent robot who is brought to life on screen with absolutely amazing practical effects.
The plot is such, after an extinction-level event, a lone robot known only as Mother tasks herself with replenishing the human race via artifical means. She begins with the film's main protagonist, Daughter. Years go by as Mother raises her human child and the two prepare for Daughter's first sibling (a brother) to be born. However, on Daughter's 16th birthday, the arrival of an outsider known only as Woman shakes Daughter's entire world view. She begins to question Mother's very nature, as well as what's really going on outside the bunker she and her caretaker call home.
⚠️ This movie features child endangerment and reference to child death.
Lilo and Stitch
When I decided to add a single Disney film to this list I initially thought it was going to be hard but almost immediately my brain went to Lilo and Stitch, and specifically about the relationship between Lilo and Nani.
On the surface, this film is about a lonely little girl accidentally adopting a fugitive alien creature as a "dog," but underneath that the story is also about two orphaned sisters and the older sister's attempts to not let social services tear them apart by stepping up as the younger sister's primary guardian. Despite its seemingly goofy premise, Lilo and Stitch has a very emotional and thoughtful center. It's little wonder how this movie managed to spawn an entire franchise.
Despite the franchise it spawned (or possibly because of it), I often find that Lilo and Stitch is overlooked and many people only remember it for the "little girl adopts an alien as a pet" portion of its plot, and I very rarely see it on people's top 10 Disney lists.
⚠️ This movie could be potentially triggering to people who were separated from their siblings or other family members due to social service intervention. There's also a bit of child endangerment, including a scene where Lilo and Stitch both almost drown.
Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind
Unlike the above entry, I did struggle a little bit with picking a single Studio Ghibli film. Most media of the Ghibli catalogue have strong, well-written, unique, and interesting female leads so selecting just one seemed like quite the task.
However, I eventually settled on this particular film. In recent months, Princess Nausicaä has become my absolute favorite Ghibli protagonist and I'm absolutely enchanted by the world she lives in.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overun by giant insects and under threat of a toxic forest and its poisoness spores, Nausicaä must try to protect the Valley of the Wind from invaders as she also tries to understand the science behind the toxic forest and attempts to bridge the gap between the insects and the humans.
For those who have never seen the film, I think Nausicaä's personality can best be described as being similar to OT Luke Skywalker. Both are caring, compassionate, and gentle souls who are able to see the best in nearly anyone or anything. She's an absolutely enthralling protagonist and after rewatching the film again for the first time in well over a decade she has easily become one of my all time favorite protagonists.
Whenever I see people talk about Ghibli films, they rarely mention this one, and when they do mention it, it's often in passing. In my opinion it's a must watch.
⚠️ This movie contains some blood, and the folks who either don't like insects or who have entomophobia may not appreciate the giant bugs running about throughout the movie. (Although most insects do not directly relate to real life bugs, and are fantasy creatures).
A Silent Voice
A Silent Voice is an animated movie adaptation of a manga of the same name. While I've never had the pleasure to read the manga, the movie is phenomenal. It covers topics such a bullying, living in the world with a disability, the desire for atonement, social anxiety, and depression in a well thought out manner that ties itself together through the progression of the relationship between its two leads, Shoya and Shouko. It's also beautifully animated. Although very popular among anime viewers, I've noticed that it's often overlooked by people who watch little to no anime. So I suppose this is me urging non-anime viewers to give this film a chance.
⚠️ As mentioned above, the movie deals with bullying, anxiety, and depression (with this last one including suicidal thoughts and behaviour). If discussion of those topics are triggering to you, than you may want to proceed with caution or skip this movie all together.
In This Corner of The World
Another manga adaptation, this one taking place during WWII-era Japan. In This Corner of The World follows the life of a civilian Japanese woman, Suzu Urano, as she navigates simply living and her new marriage as the wartime invades nearly all aspects of everyday life. I think this movie is a good representation of what it must be like to be living as civilian in a country at war where the fight is sometimes fought on one's own soil. It was also an interesting look into pre-50s Japanese culture in my opinion. It's also beautifully animated featuring an art style I don't see often.
Despite it being well known among anime fans, I never really see it be brought up, even among said anime fans themselves.
Side note: I've seen many WWII dramas centering around civilians but they've almost always been about American or UK civilians. This was the first movie I'd seen that features the perspective of a Japanese civilain.
⚠️ Features the death of a child and limb loss. There's also a disturbing scene featuring a victim of one of the atomic bombs near the end.
Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki
This film follows Hana, a Japan-native woman who fell in love with a magical shape-shifting wolf-man, and her trials with raising their children, who can also magically shape-shift into wolves, on her own. It's a very heartfelt movie about a mother's love and the struggles of doing right by your children when you have limited resources to actively guide and care for them. All the characters feel unique and alive in my opinion. Also, the animation is so good that my sister and I initially mistook it for a Ghibli film.
Again, like the previous two anime entries, I don't see it ever brought up outside of anime circles.
⚠️ There's some child endangerment present in the film, although none of it is the fault of Hana as far as I can remember.
Roman Holiday
Roman Holiday is about the fictional Princess Ann (played by Audrey Hepburn), who while on a whirlwind tour of Europe, finally reaches her breaking point over having her entire life be one big schedule and all her words and actions being rehearsed. In the spur of the moment, she runs away in hopes of experiencing what life is like for other women. Unfortunately, she was previously given a sedative, meaning she doesn't get too far before it takes effect. Fortunately, she is found by the kind reporter Joe Bradley (played by Gregory Peck). Believing her to be drunk and unable to get an address from her (because she has none) he ends up taking her home for safety's sake and allows her to sleep off her suppose drunken stupor. The next day, he realizes who she is, and decides to take her on a fun sight seeing trip across Rome in hopes of getting the big scoop. Along the way, they begin to fall for each other.
This is my favorite black and white, old romance film. I think the relationship between the main characters is absolutely beautiful and I have a lot of fun watching it.
⚠️ I'm not entirely sure what kind of warning this film would need. However, it was released in 1953, so values dissonance will probably be at play for many viewers to at least some extent. For example, early in the film Ann is given sedation drugs by her doctor for her behavior, something that is very unlikely to happen today. Also, Mr Bradley deciding to take Ann home to keep her safe rather than call the police or an ambulance is a very pre-90s decision in my opinion.

loyalty’s all i got | part one
summary: three years ago, you had it all: great friends, good grades, and an almost perfect relationship with your boyfriend, jj. it all came crashing down when your mom relocated your family to california for work and you were forced to trade the outer banks for malibu, leaving your broken heart behind in the place you were just starting to think of as home. now you're back in town for college and to pick up the pieces, hoping to make things right again with your friends and the boy you never stopped loving.
word count: 8.9k+ i'm legit incapable of writing something short 😅
ship: jj maybank x female!reader, pogue friendship
warnings: mentions of child abuse, non-graphic injuries, weed, swearing, underage drinking, learning to be vulnerable, trust issues, first love, jj getting the love and affection he deserves, underage sex (nothing too descriptive but it gets a lil spicy, just fyi), teenage heartbreak, failed long distance relationship, angst with a happy ending, references to some taylor swift songs 'cause she's a queen.
a/n: got a lil plot bunny that wouldn't leave me alone so here we are lol. title and inspiration for this fic comes from train's song "rescue dog" that gave me 'jj x reader where they're both damaged goods' vibes the second i heard it. this is semi canon-compliant as the treasure hunt never happened but big john is still alive and kie and sarah still work out their issues and become friends again. i used the names daisy, daniel, deke, and mack as a tribute to agents of shield, one of my favorite shows that had just had its series finale (and i'm still an emotional mess). enjoy and keep an eye out for part two, coming soon!
~masterlist~
part one: when our love was young and easy
For you, having a traveling nurse as a mom was both a blessing and a curse. When you were a kid, you loved bouncing around the country to a new town every so often and finding new places to explore with your rebellious big sister. Back then, she was all you needed to be happy: you'd go anywhere and everywhere as long as Daisy, your best friend, was by your side.
As you both grew older and started school, you slowly realized that packing up your life every few years sucked. Yeah, seeing new places was cool and all but the novelty wore off fast when you found yourself making friends with your classmates, kids who weren't your sister for once, only to lose touch whenever you moved again. You felt like a ghost, haunting a new school for a while and then leaving behind nothing but a memory, one that gradually faded over time until it was gone, as if you never existed at all. You wondered if anyone actually remembered you.
It was hard. You gradually became more sullen and withdrawn, finding it more and more difficult to make friends when you knew they wouldn't last, while Daisy acted out even worse than usual and ended up being grounded almost every week. It took her getting arrested while graffitiing the school gym on New Year's Eve for your father - a bit clueless about being a stay-at-home dad to two girls but he tried his best- to put his foot down and tell his wife enough was enough.
"Our kids need stability, Rebekah. They need a chance to make real friends and stay in one place for longer than two or three years. They need a home."
Thankfully by some miracle, your mother agreed and promised the next move would be the last until you graduated high school. You wanted to believe her so badly but you weren't sure if you could as you packed up your life once again and headed down south from Rhode Island.
That's how you ended up in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, finishing eighth grade at some fancy ass academy that you weren't sure your parents could afford. Daisy, a sophomore, seemed to have no problem fitting in on the north side of the island when she landed a job as a lifeguard at the country club and made fast friends with the rich kids that frequented the pool. It stung a bit when she eventually started ditching you for them (and some older boy named Kelce; you knew she'd snag a boyfriend eventually but you didn't realize it'd be so fast and with someone so...douchey) but you tried not to let it bother you too much, as you were okay getting by on your own and honest-to-God happy for your sister. Making friends was a scary thought when you remembered all the kids you've had to leave behind over the years, all the friendships that crumbled into dust in the wind so you tried to stay at arm's length from your classmates and told yourself you were just fine the way you were.
The loneliness was hard to ignore though, and you soon found yourself slowly, reluctantly becoming friends with a girl named Kiara that sat beside you in algebra after she helped you cram for a test you completely forgot about, even as warning bells rang loud in your mind. It wasn't long before you started sitting with her and her friend Sarah at lunch, which led to being invited to the beach and the movies and sleepovers and just like that, you remembered what friendship felt like. For the first time, you felt like a normal teenager with a best friend that wasn't your sister and although you liked Sarah, Kiara was the one you were closest to, especially when you found out she hated the kook academy as much as you did.
"Fuck it," She said at one of your sleepovers, sitting on the floor at the end of your bed and rifling through your box of movies. "I'm done with acting like something I'm not, I'm done with being fake, and I'm done with rich kid politics." She tossed Legally Blonde in your direction and then joined you in leaning against the headboard as you slipped the DVD into your laptop.
"Yeah, this whole kook thing kind of sucks." You replied, tapping through the previews to the main menu. "That's why I don't give a shit."
"And that's why I'm so happy you're my friend, Y/N," Kiara said. "You're just yourself and don't try to change for anybody. It's cool."
Cursor hovering over the play button, you paused and glanced over at the other girl. "I'm happy you're my friend, too. I...I only really had my sister growing up so just...thanks, I guess. For being here."
Kiara pulled you into a fierce hug after your impromptu confession and you hugged her back, understanding for the first time what true friendship looked like.
More kids get added to your posse -three boys named John B, JJ, and Pope- after a catastrophic falling out with Sarah over her fiasco of a birthday party and from the very first time you met them, you realized the south side of the island was where you belonged. The pogues were unabashedly, unapologetically real and you felt the freest you'd ever been when you were hanging out with them and from the way Kiara seemed so much happier, you knew she felt the same way. Those kooks and their status quo could suck it.
You vowed you wouldn't let yourself get too attached to your new friends (cohorts, as your dad jokingly called them), lest you get your heart broken when your mom inevitably moved on to the next job in a year or two; despite her promise, you just had a feeling that it wouldn't last and wished you weren't always waiting for that other shoe to drop. You didn't plan on them becoming your second family and you definitely didn't plan on falling in love for the first time, but life always found new ways to surprise you.
You were fourteen when you started to notice that one of your friends was cute as fuck. To be honest, you thought all of your friends were pretty cute but there was something about JJ that made you flustered beyond belief every time he crossed your mind. You found yourself more than a little fixated on his golden hair, his bright blue eyes, and the way you always felt at your happiest when he was around; he lived like a wild, out of control hurricane and you wanted to get swept up in the eye of his storm, despite your brain telling you not to.
You never had crushes before, always too busy anticipating worrying about your family's next move to really look at anyone like that but you were definitely looking now while you tried to balance on JJ's surfboard in the gently bobbing waves, your trembling hands planted firmly on his -bare, tan, strong- shoulders as he held it steady.
"Lookin' good, Y/N," He looked up at you with a proud grin before glancing back down at your stance. "Just bend your knees a little more and you'll be perfect."
His praise, along with his calloused palms carefully adjusting your legs made your face feel hot and you shifted on the board to correct your balance, slowly raising your arms until you were standing, albeit a little wobbly, mostly on your own.
"Holy shit!" You yelled, the smile on your face growing more ecstatic at the encouraging cheers of your friends as they watched from the beach twenty feet away. "I'm doing it! I'm actually doing it!"
"Almost," JJ gave you another one of his killer smiles, the ones that you quickly found out made breathing normally quite the challenge, then let go of your knees to give the board a solid push forward. "Now you are!"
Frantically, you recalled everything he taught you that afternoon and managed to make it halfway to shore before you lost your balance and fell into the surf with a giddy laugh. "Guess I need a little more practice," You giggled as he splashed his way over and offered you a hand, a teasing glint in his blue eyes.
"Just a little?"
You flicked some water at him for that and your laugh grew when he wrapped you up in his arms and spun you around before flinging you both into the waves. The others immediately ran to join you and an all out war broke out, everyone splashing each other with no holds barred.
When he casually suggested giving you another lesson the next day as you all laid on the sand to catch your breath, you were unable to say no and the soft, dimpled smile on his face made your heart skip a beat in a way you'd never felt before. For the first time, you told the warning bells in your head to just shut the fuck up and allowed yourself to think about the future, to dream about what you could become and where you could be in two, five, even ten years. You let yourself have hope.
The next morning, you put on your favorite bikini -the green high waisted one that made your butt look good- and caught a ride with Daisy and Kelce to the beach, ignoring the teasing looks and jabs your sister sent your way and the sly smirk on her boyfriend's face.
"Hey, Juliet, looks like your Romeo's already waiting for you."
You rolled your eyes and hopped out of Kelce's Range Rover, flipping them both the bird behind your back without a second glance. As they drove away, their laughter followed you to where JJ was indeed waiting by the walkway to the shore, surfboard under his arm, and his face broke out into a wide grin when he laid eyes on you, one that you couldn't help returning.
"Sorry I'm late, my sister was being a bitch."
He laughed at that and reached out to take your hand, sending warm tingles through your whole body. "I was kinda worried you forgot about me, Y/N."
In a sudden burst of courage you didn't know you had, you laced your fingers with his and started pulling him toward the water as you sent him a wink over your shoulder. "I would never."
You started your lesson on the sand, reviewing how to stand up and balance on the board, before moving to the ocean. You catch your first waves on your stomach to get used to the movement and when you get comfortable with that you move to your knees and then your feet; each time JJ was there to catch you when you inevitably bit it, hugging you close to his bare chest and speaking enthusiastic words of encouragement in your ear, and with every passing try you became more and more confident until you finally nailed a small wave from beginning to end without falling on your ass.
"I did it!" In a flash, you jumped off the board and into his arms, your mouth curving into a joyful grin when he spun you in circles like yesterday with your own arms locked tight around his neck.
"Hell yeah you did!" The proud smile on his face made your stomach do a little flip and so did the way he held you close, his hands hooked under your thighs. "You're gonna be a pro in no time."
"Well," You said, twirling your fingers in the fine blond hair at his nape and hoping you didn't just imagine the shiver that ran down his spine. "I do have a great teacher."
His pretty blue eyes locked onto yours and you couldn't look away even if you wanted to (which you absolutely didn't). You'd been reading about moments like that ever since you were a kid, alone in your room with nothing better to do than drown yourself in overly sappy fanfiction until 2 AM, so you knew all about the magnetism, the butterflies, the invisible string tying two lovers together by fate, but it was just a fantasy, a pipe dream, something to yearn for when the loneliness became too much. Never in a million years did you imagine you would ever feel like that.
And yet you did. You felt it in your whole body, coursing through your veins like liquid fire, and when JJ started to lean in, you didn't hesitate to meet him halfway. It wasn't your first kiss -that happened two years ago when you were still living in Rhode Island, during a rare party you actually got invited to and with a pretty girl in your class- but it was the first that set every single one of your nerves alight. He held you tighter against him as your hands moved to cup his face, letting him deepen the kiss with a tilt of his head and the soft swipe of his tongue against your lips. You never thought you'd find yourself in the middle of a make out session in broad daylight and in full view of everyone on the beach but there you were, not giving a single shit about who was watching. All you cared about was memorizing every detail about the way he kissed you, the feel of his mouth on yours and the heat of his palms against your thighs, the rough touch of drying saltwater on his skin under your thumbs and that little noise he made low in his throat when you wrapped your legs tighter around his waist. You could've kissed him for hours (holy shit did you want to do that) and never run out of new idiosyncrasies to notice.
You pulled back some glorious time later with a breathless smile and swollen lips, heart racing against your ribcage and forehead pressed to JJ's as he smiled back, an endearing pink flushed across his face.
"I've wanted to do that for a while." His quiet admission made the butterflies in your stomach go haywire and you leaned down to kiss him once again, no longer able to deny yourself the happiness you longed for for years now that you'd had a taste; he returned the kiss and you laughed against his mouth as he spun you around before gently setting you on your feet in the surf, his forgotten board -thankfully still tethered to your ankle- bumping into your legs with every wave.
"Me, too."
"Good." He shot you a smile that make you weak in the knees and tucked a wayward strand of hair behind your ear, then it was his turn to lean down to press his lips to yours.
After that day, life was practically a dream. You had the greatest friends you could've asked for, your family was the happiest you'd ever seen them, and you had a boyfriend. A loyal, affectionate, chaotic boyfriend who somehow managed to keep you on your toes while being your guiding light all at once and you wondered how you got so lucky that a boy as wonderful as JJ wanted little old you, with all of your insecurities and shattered edges and tendencies to push people away when they got too close.
You told him that one day as you laid together on your bed, sharing lazy kisses in the warm late-summer sun streaming in through your window while Fleetwood Mac played quietly from your phone resting on the nightstand. Fall was in the air and with it came cool breezes and that nagging fear in the back of your mind that screamed none of it would last. It was the first time you cried in front of him -in front of anyone other than your sister- and he held you tight to his chest, hand running soothingly over your back as you let everything out in one massive, embarrassing flood of years of pent-up emotions.
Another thing your boyfriend was good at, you found out, was comfort. He didn't say anything as he hugged you close but he didn't need to, the fact that he was simply there and listening was all you needed from him. You spent your whole life living in the shadows until then, when he made you feel seen, heard, and important, validated, all without saying a single word and after your tears had run dry and you pulled your face away from his damp shirt, you killed that urge to flee and buried it so deep you hoped you'd never find it again.
That day, you poured out your heart for the first time to a person you knew in your very bones you could trust and received nothing but unconditional acceptance in return. JJ took you as you were, flaws and metaphorical scars, dark secrets and past mistakes, and you weren't quite fifteen yet but you wondered if that spark you felt in your blood when he kissed you was love.
It was less than a week later when he showed up at your door late at night, bruised and bloody, and the thrill of a clandestine meeting in your room faded the second you saw the small, pained smile he sent your way. Daisy, swapping roles with you for once, distracted your parents so you could sneak him upstairs like she did with Kelce practically every week and only when you were both safely hidden away in your room did you speak, keeping your voice as soft as your touch against his bruised cheek. "What happened?"
You cried in front of him for the second time when he finally answered, after you cleaned him up with the first aid kit your mom always kept under your bathroom sink and helped him change into some of your dad's old clothes your sister swiped from the laundry room ("if you need anything, just text me, 'k?" she said and you sent her a grateful smile before she left, quietly shutting the door behind her.). JJ was your echo as he spilled all his secrets, too, bringing his demons out of the deep blue darkness and into your golden daylight where they slowly burned to ash, little by little. You held him close, your legs tangled together and his head pillowed on your chest, and you ran your fingers through his hair over and over until he talked himself hoarse and his hands loosened their white-knuckled grip on your sweatshirt.
Words had never been your strong suit so you let your actions speak for you and gently wiped the tears from his cheeks with your thumbs, leaning down to press your lips to his forehead, then his closed eyelids, his nose, all over his face until there was no inch you hadn't kissed other than his mouth; you saved that for last, letting each delicate touch linger against his slightly chapped lips like bright beacons of light guiding him through a storm in hopes that he'll make it to shore.
"You'll always be safe with me."
You whispered it into his hair sometime later, through swollen lips that hurt in the best possible way and you felt his slow smile into the curve of your neck, his reply coming in the form of a soft and feather-light kiss against your heated skin. You fell asleep that night with your boyfriend wrapped up in your arms, safe and warm and far away from the father who hurt him in more ways than one.
Your parents, on the other hand, loved JJ so much to the point you thought they'd adopt him if they could, especially your dad. They were constantly inviting him over for dinner, fishing trips, movie nights: you name it, your parents wanted him there, and you were pretty sure he was spending even more time at your place than at John B's. He won the 'favorite boyfriend' category by default because Kelce barely made the 'tolerated' list, much to your and Daisy's amusement.
Despite that fact though, you still snuck JJ out your window that morning to meet him at the front door just as your mother was leaving for her shift at the hospital. Rebekah greeted him with her customary hug before touching his bruised cheek with a gentle hand and concern in her eyes.
"What happened, hon?"
He shrugged, expertly bullshitting some excuse about defending your honor when one of Kelce's friends started going off about how good your ass looked and it instantly appeased your dad, who reached over to clap your boyfriend on the shoulder.
"Good job, kid." Bill said with a pleased grin, then kissed his wife goodbye and headed back down the hall toward the living room. "Hear that, Daisy? Your boy needs to get better friends!"
"Dad!"
"Even better, just get a better boy in general!"
As your father and sister squabbled, your mother pulled you both into another fierce hug and whispered "You always have a place here," before she headed out the door; JJ looked a bit stunned at Rebekah's words and you reached over to give his hand a gentle squeeze, smiling softly when he slowly did it back.
Your parents weren't stupid. They knew your boyfriend didn't come from the best of homes but they loved him anyway, showering him in ordinary, everyday affection they knew he rarely got. You noticed it more and more as the months passed: your dad always asking him for help fixing Daisy's clunker of a car when it broke down and both would come inside with grease-stained hands and easy smiles, your mom keeping all the first aid kits fully stocked and hugging him a little tighter when he looked a little worse for wear, both of them making sure he was fed and safe and cared for like he deserved. Even Daisy had a penchant for leaving snacks on your bed like some sort of food fairy and offering to give rides to the beach or the Chateau, especially after she finally dumped Kelce and had, as she said, 'nothing better to do.'
And you? You fell harder each passing day, each moment you spent with him, each kiss that made your veins hum with white hot lightning. Of course, your friends teased you mercilessly but neither of you really minded, knowing that each joke was born pure joy at seeing you both together and happy (though you never missed an opportunity to be extra affectionate in front of everyone as revenge.). JJ continued to teach you how to surf until you could hold your own with the rest of the pogues and when you turned fifteen in late spring, they gave you the surprise of your life in the form of your very own board.
You stared in shock at the sea foam green board propped in the sand beside your friends,' gaping like a fish out of water as they all screamed "happy birthday, Y/N!" at the top of their lungs.
"You...you guys -are you for real?" You reached out to run your fingers over the smooth epoxy surface, the mounting pressure behind your eyes becoming harder and harder to ignore when you caught sight of your friends' identical bright grins. What did you do to deserve them?
"We figured it was time you had your own board instead of that shitty hand me down," John B said, ruffling your hair with brotherly affection that made your heart feel full. Pope nodded enthusiastically and added, "You're gonna improve so much with this -not that you weren't already, I mean!"
"She's already good 'cause she has me for a teacher," JJ said with an overexaggerated wink as he pulled you closer and planted a kiss on your cheek. "Taught her everything she knows."
"Oh, please, you just wanted to mack-"
"Taught her how to make out-"
"What they all mean to say, Y/N," Kiara interrupted, sending the boys a pointed look, then gave your shoulder a quick squeeze, "is that we love you. That word won't kill you guys to say, you know."
"I-I love you guys, too. All of you." You admitted thickly, hastily wiping away the tears you just realized were slipping down your face. It didn't scare you to say it. You didn't feel the urge to run or pretend you didn't care for them as much as they cared for you 'cause you loved your friends like you loved your sister, your parents, and the thought filled you with joy instead of terror. "I don't know how to thank you."
You suddenly found yourself in the middle of a colossal group hug, laughing and crying at the same time as four pairs of arms all tried to wrap around you at once. "How about you start by getting out there and showing us what you're made of?" John B said with a nod toward the ocean and you wiggled your way out of the tangle of limbs, darting forward to pull your new board from the sand.
"Come on, slowpokes," You called over your shoulder as you jogged toward the water, "You aren't gonna let the newbie have all the fun, right?"
The water was a bit too chilly for surfing but the five of you dove in anyway and you grinned so hard you were sure your face would split in two when you nailed your first wave to the rest of the pogues' cheers. You all surfed until the cold was too much to bear before packing up and heading back to your house, where you spent the rest of your birthday surrounded by all of the people you'd ever loved, making s'mores around the campfire in your backyard.
"I meant what I said earlier." You blurted when JJ was the only one around to hear it, the others already headed inside for the night. The two of you laid together on a blanket beside the dying fire as you stared up at the stars and when you spoke, he tore his gaze from the sky to focus on you, one eyebrow raised in the cutest confused expression you'd ever seen.
"Meant what?"
Maybe it was the look in those pretty blue eyes of his or the feel of his fingers running through your hair or your brain remembering every single moment you'd ever shared with him all at once but something screamed at you to say those words, the ones you'd been thinking about saying to his face for a long time. Though you'd already said them earlier, this time was different -so, so different- and you took a deep breath, fighting away the nerves that made your hand tremble as you cupped his face and ran your thumb over his cheekbone.
"I love you."
The funny thing about words: once they're out in the air, there's no taking them back. These words, though? You never wanted to take them back. Ever.
"I love you, too."
It wasn't like the movies. Fireworks didn't go off, the world didn't stop spinning on its axis, nothing magically clicked into place, but you did feel the most wonderful warmth you could ever imagine slowly sinking into your bones when he said it back, the soft smile on his flushed face snatching the very breath from your lungs. He loved you. You loved him. It was simple, uncomplicated, effortless and you smiled into his kiss with the moon and stars as your witnesses.
Summer came again, setting you and Kiara free from the hell known as the kook academy and its rich kid hierarchy and the two of you ran wild -from sunrise to sunset- with your boys at your sides, like birds escaping their cages or horses let loose in the grasslands, untamed and thirsty for adventure. It had only just begun and yet you already knew it was the best summer of your life.
Your dad, a man able to make friends with a rock, struck up a camaraderie with Sarah's father of all people during a deep sea fishing trip and snagged five invitations to some fancy party called Midsummers.
Kiara nearly had a coronary when you shared the news, her face lighting up like a kid on Christmas morning. "Oh, thank God!" She breathed, sitting up on her towel and pushing her sunglasses up onto her forehead. "Maybe I'll actually have a good time for once."
The two of you were relaxing on the beach, taking a break while the boys surfed and you turned away from admiring your boyfriend's bare back to look her in the eye. "So what you're saying is-"
"-it fucking sucks. Just..." She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "a bunch of bourgeoise pigs throwing a party to stroke their overinflated egos."
You groaned and flopped back onto your towel, throwing your arm over your eyes. "Great, a night of rich people being rich people."
Kiara laughed and reached over to grab a bottle of water from the cooler. "You have no idea."
Despite her misgivings, the party wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. Sure, the general stench of opulence and wasted money -so much wasted money- was overbearing and quite frankly disgusting but you did your best to ignore it, focusing instead on having a great time with two of your best friends, making fun of the kooks and sneaking liquor when the adults weren't looking. One of those friends happened to be your boyfriend and you found it very, very hard to keep your eyes off him in that suit of his, with his hair slicked back in just the right way that made your knees weak; JJ couldn't stop staring at you either and you'd lost count of how many times you glanced over to find him already looking at you, something you'd never seen before behind his gaze. You wanted -needed- to find out what it was and you were hoping you would tonight, even if you didn't exactly know how.
"Why don't you two take a picture? It'll last longer." Kiara said sarcastically and you flicked your eyes down to your lap, smoothing a non-existent wrinkle in your deep green dress to hide your embarrassment. What was it about that damn suit that made you feel so flustered?
"You know me, Kie," JJ replied, grabbing your hand and tugging you toward the dance floor. "I like to live in the moment." He grinned down at you and you couldn't help smiling back, giggling as he twirled you under his arm before pulling you close, resting his other hand low on your back.
"I didn't know you were such a good dancer," You said, letting him lead you in a simple waltz across the cool grass.
"Well, I'm not but I might've spent the last week practicing with your sister while Kie distracted you." He admitted casually, shooting a thumbs up over your shoulder and you turned to find Daisy grinning in your direction as she swayed with some guy (Daniel, you thought, or maybe Deke? You weren't sure.) you'd seen hanging around the pool a few times. 'You're welcome,' She mouthed before spinning under her partner's arm, her wine-colored dress fanning out around her legs and you smiled wider, twirling back into your boyfriend's embrace and surging up onto your tiptoes to press your lips to his.
He dipped you low as he returned your kiss, grinning against your mouth when you flung your arms around his neck in surprise, your fingers holding tight to the collar of his suit jacket. "You did all that for me?" You asked once your feet were firmly back on the ground and your heart skipped a beat as his hands brushed the skin exposed by the low-cut back of your dress.
"Anything for you, Y/N."
Later, after dancing until your shoes started to dig uncomfortably into your toes, the two of you snuck down to the beach, your heels in your hands and two stolen drinks in JJ's. You felt a bit guilty ditching Kiara but from the wink she sent your way as you passed by, you were pretty sure she didn't really mind. The sand was cool on your legs through the thin layers of your skirt and yet you felt nothing but warm, both from his arm around your shoulders and the alcohol burning down your throat.
"Shit," You coughed, regretting following your boyfriend's example by knocking the whole thing back at once and playfully jabbing your elbow in his side when he outright laughed at your struggle. "I'm not used to drinking straight...whatever this is."
"It's bourbon, babe." He took the glass from your hand and set it aside before tucking you closer against him to ward off the slight chill of the mellow ocean breeze. "Don't worry, I still love you even if you can't take shots."
"Ha ha. Love you, too, you jerk." You rested your head on his shoulder after they stopped shaking with laughter, perfectly happy to sit in silence together and watch the waves crash against the shore. A pleasant tingle flooded through your body after the bourbon finally stopped burning and you realized you liked the feeling, even if it paled in comparison to the high you reached when he kissed you, when he ran his hand through your hair, when he made it crystal clear you were loved.
"Hey, Y/N?"
JJ's voice pulled you out of your thoughts and you shifted your head to look up at him, hooking one of your ankles around his. "Yeah?"
"Gimme your hand."
You obliged, your confusion slowly melting away into something more closely resembling pure, unadulterated affection as he tied a bracelet around your wrist. And not just any bracelet, you noticed when you brought it closer to your face to examine it in the dim, distant light of the party: this one was obviously, beautifully handmade, woven with threads in shades of green, blue, and tan and tied off with two green beads on each end. You ran your thumb over a spot where the intricate motif was just a little messed up and smiled when JJ looked embarrassed, the tips of his ears turning red.
"Yeah, sorry about that, I was in a hurry and fucked up the pattern," He confessed sheepishly, spinning a similar bracelet around his own wrist. "I was gonna give it to you on your birthday but I kind of underestimated how long it took to make-"
"It's perfect." You interrupted, tackling him onto the sand with your arms around his neck as you pressed a quick kiss to the corner of his mouth, leaving a bright red lipstick mark behind. "I love it. I love you."
The smile he sent you was one of unabashed relief and he slid his fingers into your hair to pull you down for another kiss. "I love you, too."
For awhile after that, you let your lips do the talking in a different way and you made out on the beach for -surprisingly- only the second time until you rolled onto your back and accidentally got a little sand in your underwear (he laughed at that but you immediately got your revenge by stuffing a handful down the front of his shirt). You snuck back to the party hand in hand to drop off the forgotten glasses and wave a quick goodbye to Kiara, who just smirked at your smudged lipstick and the golden crown of leaves sitting crooked on your head, before walking toward your house a mile down the road. Well, JJ walked, you hitched a ride on his back when he wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Babe, your feet hurt and you have sand in your ass. No way in hell I'm letting you walk."
You just smiled against his shoulder and let him carry you the rest of the way to your house and then even up the stairs to your room as you fired off a text to Daisy letting her know where you disappeared to. She sent 'check your dresser, thank me later' with a winking emoji back and you felt your face get hot when you caught sight of the small box tucked into the corner of the drawer, quickly placing the phone facedown on your bedside table before tossing your shoes onto the floor by your closet and carefully pulling the crown from your messy hair.
"Thanks for the ride, my feet and ass are in your debt."
"Let's make out again and I'll consider that debt paid."
You laughed but gave in 'cause hell, you really wanted to keep making out, too. You pushed JJ backwards until his knees hit your bed and you ended up on his lap, your hands pushing the suit jacket off his shoulders as you leaned down to kiss him. He slid the pins from your hair one by one until it fell around your face and he tangled his fingers in it, pulling your head back so he could trail his lips down the sensitive skin of your neck and you gasped, pausing in the middle of trying to undo the bowtie around his neck.
Something shifted in the air then and you knew that once you took that next step, there'd be no turning back but you were ready to meet it head on as you finished with his tie and tossed it behind you, then started on the buttons of his shirt. That look from earlier was in his eyes again and you nodded, smiling in anticipation when you finally understood what it meant and he languidly slipped one of the straps of your dress off your shoulder.
You bared your body like you bared your soul and soon there was no part of you that he didn't know. You learned every part of him, too and together you brought each other to a high you'd never felt before. It wasn't perfect, of course, but it was perfect to you: every awkward, beautiful touch, when you breathed his name like that for the first time, the way your hands clutched his hair like a lifeline. You were burning up from the inside out, every single nerve on fire and blazing brilliantly under your heated skin and you'd never felt more alive when you came undone in his arms.
In the afterglow, you laid wrapped up together like the woven bracelets you both wore, JJ's fingers steadily tracing the curve of your bare hip as yours soothed the darkening red mark you'd left behind on his neck. The fairy lights strung above your bed cast soft, welcoming shadows all around, highlighting that wonderful look in his eyes, open and awed and oh so loving and you knew your gaze held the same.
"I'm, I-" He started, then shook his head and leaned down to place a lingering kiss on your cheek. "I just -shit."
"Whoa, you're speechless," You teased, sweeping a wayward strand of sweaty blond hair away from his forehead. "Guess I really blew your mind, huh?"
"Fucking fried it." He shook his head again with the dopiest, dreamiest smile you'd ever seen and you giggled as he pulled you closer, calloused palm flat against the small of your back. "I'm so fucking in love with you. Straight up head over heels, babe."
You smiled even wider at his words and how they ignited that flame burning inside you once again. "Good thing I'm fucking head over heels, hopelessly in love with you, too." You replied and pushed him back onto the bed, swinging a leg over his thighs so you were the one on top this time. "And I'm gonna blow your damn mind again."
You weren't sure what you expected life to be like after you had sex for the first time. You'd always heard it was this momentous occasion, that you'd suddenly feel like a real woman or whatever stupid label society came up with to further control girls and their sexuality but honestly, you still felt like the same person. All those rom-coms and their jokes about having that look after getting laid were total and complete bullshit, you realized; to you, sex was just a different, more intimate way to show your love and you just happened to like showing it often (and luckily JJ did, too). You flaunted it in other ways, too, his bandanas tied in your hair and shirts in your closet, your necklaces resting against his collarbone and bracelets you learned to make around his wrists, but there was nothing like the marks you left on each other's skin -necks, inner arms, hipbones- when you were alone together in the dark.
Life went on. Months flew by and things were nearly perfect for you: great friends, good grades, a wonderful relationship with your loving boyfriend. The girl of your past, the one who kept to herself and avoided anything that had to do with being vulnerable like the plague was dead and gone and in her place was the person you always wanted to be. You were happy -ridiculously, deliriously happy- sixteen and so in love with the life you built that you'd almost forgotten about your mom's tendency to relocate your family every few years; that nagging thought was still in the back of your mind but you refused to let it control your life with fear of losing everything -everyone- you'd come to love.
But you knew how the saying went: the bigger you are, the harder you fall.
The higher you climb on an unstable mountain, the more it hurts when it inevitably crumbles beneath you.
Your mountain didn't just crumble: it was violently torn apart, ripped into pieces by a devastating earthquake, a destructive landslide caused by the one person who promised she wouldn't hurt you anymore but the catalyst that unintentionally set it in motion came from someone you never expected: your sister.
Daisy graduated from the kook academy and got accepted into her dream school, UCLA, alongside her boyfriend Daniel (see, you knew his name wasn't Deke) but you didn't think too much of it. After all, you knew that day would come eventually, the day your big sister would head off to college and leave you, her shadow, behind but the thought didn't fill you with dread like it used to. You had friends, a found family to soothe the inescapable sting of the Daisy-shaped hole in your heart and keep your spirits high when she hopped on that plane to California in the fall.
You still had the summer though and you made it count, days spent with your friends and nights spent with your sister, doing all the things you used to do together when you were little; watching movies, playing games, making a total mess in the kitchen when you baked batches and batches of cookies that had both your boyfriend and hers always hanging around like dogs begging for scraps. You and Daisy started putting them to work the second they ate two dozen snickerdoodles by themselves (Daniel was an excellent cook while JJ was a total disaster) and those nights always ended with the four of you squished together on the couch, wrapped in blankets and cookies and warmth while a scary movie played on in the background.
The day before Daisy left for LA, you met your parents and sister at The Wreck for what you thought would be your last family dinner until Thanksgiving break but it turned out you were the only one who believed that. You should've known something was wrong the second your dad didn't even make a joke about your friends dropping you off in John B's rust bucket of a van or when JJ pulled you back in for a kiss that was just a little bit too risque for the public eye (You'd laughed when John B and Pope both pretended to gag and just kissed him harder, not giving a single shit about who saw, even your parents.). You should've known when your mother's smile was a little strained or when your sister wouldn't meet your eyes. You should've known but you stupidly didn't see the signs and that made Rebekah's words so much harder to swallow.
"We're moving to California."
You dropped the loaded nacho in your hand back onto your plate as you stared at her, gaping like a fish. "E-Excuse me but what the actual fuck?"
"Language, Y/N."
"I don't give a shit about my language, Mom, I give a shit about the fact that you broke your promise!" You hissed, roughly pushing your plate away and almost knocking your glass of water over.
"Sweetheart-"
"You promised."
Your mother winced at the tightness of your voice and how you snatched your clenched fist out from under her hand. "I know, dear, but I couldn't pass on this offer and I know how much you're going to miss your sister-"
"Yeah, I'll miss Daisy but I don't want to move across the country just to be near her! God, let her be her own person for once!"
"Y/N-"
"And what about me, huh? I'm happy here! This is my home! I have friends, a boyfriend -I'm not leaving!"
"Honey, I understand you're upset-"
"Do you?" You interrupted your dad with a bitter laugh, fighting the tears you felt pricking at your eyes. "Do you understand what you're forcing me to lose?"
Bill looked away as Kiara arrived with your food and set the plates down in awkward silence. You gave her a tight smile when she quickly patted your back and then returned to the kitchen, sending you a concerned glance over her shoulder before she disappeared through the double doors and you turned to face Daisy.
"Day, did you know?" Your sister avoiding your sudden, sharp gaze was all the answer you needed and your heart dropped like an anchor, weighing heavy on your stomach. You felt sick. You felt furious. But most of all, you felt betrayed.
Suddenly, the sight of your favorite meal in front of you wasn't so appetizing anymore and you abruptly stood, your chair scraping roughly against the floor. Heads turned to look in your direction but you ignored their curious stares as you snarled with all the venom you could muster across the table at your mother, "I knew I never should've trusted a word you said."
You turned away from her hurt expression -the sheer audacity she had, acting like she was the one whose heart was shattering- and ran out the front door of The Wreck before anyone could stop you, pretending not to hear their voices calling after your retreating back. You didn't know where your feet were taking you but you really didn't care, just as long as it was far, far away from your family.
You ran until your aching legs forced you to stop and you doubled over, hands on your thighs as you tried to catch your breath and it wasn't until you saw the water dripping onto the sidewalk beneath you did you realize you were crying. Footsteps slowed to a stop beside you and your braced yourself to hear Daisy's apology or worse, your mother's, but got Kiara's winded voice instead.
"Did you ever think about doing cross country? 'Cause holy shit," She gasped with her hands on her hips. "You can run."
Despite feeling like your whole fucking world was falling apart around you, you still managed a snort of laughter at your friend's remark and eagerly returned her embrace when she wrapped her arms around your shoulders, burying your face against her neck. She held you as you cried, running a soothing hand up and down your back until the rest of your friends pulled up in the Volkswagen and you found yourself crying on a different shoulder, one you knew better than your own.
The white hot fury had left your body and now all you felt was numb. Numb and empty and hollow as you quietly explained everything on the ride back to the Chateau, avoiding your friends' sympathetic stares by playing with a loose thread at the bottom of JJ's shirt. He ran a hand through your hair while you leaned against him and you let his touch slowly bleed life back into your heart.
"You're not leaving, okay? My parents love you so you can stay with me." Kiara declared later as you all lounged around the bonfire, passing a joint back and forth.
"Or me. My dad would probably let you stay if you helped out around the shop," Pope piped up, handing it over to you without taking a drag as John B added, "Me, too. We have an extra room."
"Tijuana's always nice, too, babe." JJ suggested, grabbing your hand holding the joint and bringing it to his mouth so he could take a hit. "Just a thought."
You smiled softly and took your own hit, slowly blowing smoke into the air. "You guys are the best. I doubt my parents'll change their minds...but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try." It would definitely hurt if your desperate bid to stay didn't work but you tried not to think about that and focused instead on having a good time with your friends, forgetting all about your phone that was switched to silent and burning a hole in your purse.
Later, after the others headed inside for the night and it was just you and JJ left, you were reminded of your fifteenth birthday. You'd laid like you were now, on a blanket under the stars beside a dying fire and you told him you loved him for the first time and as much as it tore you apart to know it might all come to an end, you didn't regret it. You didn't regret befriending Kiara back in eighth grade or letting the pogues become so important to you or falling so hard for the boy holding you in his arms. And right then, all you wanted to do was hold onto that feeling by showing him your love and getting loved in return.
You propped yourself up on your elbow and leaned down to kiss him, your other hand slipping under his shirt in the flickering glow of the flames and you smiled against his lips when he immediately rolled onto his back so you were on top, his hand doing some exploring of its own under your sundress.
"I don't want to feel anything but you tonight." You answered the question in his eyes when you broke apart some time later, both breathing heavily with your skirt hitched up over your thighs and his shirt tossed somewhere on the grass behind you. "Please."
"Here?"
You'd never fucked outside before but you figured now would be the perfect time to try and to be honest, you were too impatient to make it to a bed so you nodded, slowly rolling your hips against his. "Right here."
You lost yourself in the ardent touch of his calloused hands with the haze of smoke hanging in the cool night air, letting everything slip away until he was the only thing that remained. He was all you needed, tan skin slick with sweat and mouth searing hot, your nails trailing scratches down his back while your lips left smudged marks of blood red on his face. He took you higher and higher, doing exactly what you asked him to, over and over until you nearly forgot your own name and when you finally came back down, he held you close until your limbs stopped shaking and your heart slowed back to its normal rhythm.
"I don't want to lose you." You admitted quietly into the dark, wiping at a stubborn lipstick stain on the corner of his mouth and your thumb caught on his lip when JJ shook his head, then leaned down to drop a kiss at your hairline.
"You won't."
You wanted to believe him so badly it hurt but you didn't know if you could so instead you threaded your fingers through his hair and pulled him down to press your mouth to his, his cheek, his jawline, everywhere you could reach, drowning yourself in the right now in hopes that the future would never come.
"I love you, Y/N. Don't you dare forget it." He whispered it against the shell of your ear before trailing his lips down your neck and the light scrape of his teeth on your skin turned your voice into a breathless sigh as you repeated his words into the air, your back arching from the blanket when he hit a particularly sensitive spot and sent electricity racing through your veins. You may have spoken your love softly but you showed it fiercely, each touch a little harder than the last, each kiss a little rougher and together you burned through the dark like a funeral pyre.
Hope was a dangerous thing to feel; it was fragile and delicate, hard to keep but oh so easy to lose for someone like you, a girl who spent her whole life searching for a home, only to have it ripped away when she finally found it. It didn't matter what you said or how much you cried or even when Kiara and her parents advocated on your behalf, your time on the island was up and just like that, whatever hope you had left disappeared into thin air and left you wondering if you'd ever get it back again.

Recovering what was once lost (Platonic)
hey, can i ask for a josie x reader where reader had a fight with jed and josie takes care of him? B
AN/ Hope you like it :)
“Hope!” Josie yelled as she stormed into her friend’s room; Hope looked at the girl in worry. Josie would’ve normally knocked; she would’ve then waited for a reply only to then open the door. However, from the look on her face to her tone, Hope could tell this was an emergency.
“It’s Y/N.” If this was any other situation, she’d be more hesitant with bringing up your name and the current situation you were in. The state you were in. As said before, however, this as an emergency. So, dire situations and the measures to overcome those situations and all that.
It was had had led her here, visiting your twin (not by blood; but it wasn’t like either cared) to ask her for help as a last resort. Although, if she was honest, she had no other options.
“Where is he? What happened?” She asked, almost diving off the bed as she asked the question. Worry coated her gaze, her mind not exactly helping her guilt complex; the thoughts darkening by the second as the blame she placed on herself building more and more and more –
“Hope, hey…” Josie had softened her voice as she grabbed her friend’s hand in hers; despite the crush she used to have on her, it had turned into a sisterly bond in the end, “He needs you right now. He won’t make it without your blood.” She reminded Hope of the stakes. Or, thought she was.
If anything, she only increased them.
“Why does he need my blood?” Hope’s voice shook more as she finally processed Josie’s words, “Josie, what the hell happened?” She asked, tears starting to pool at her eyes.
She could lose one of the only remaining family members she had left. She gulped at the thought of that playing out; of her being the only Mikaelson in the school.
“He’s in my room, he’s resting. I had to pretty much drag him out of there, Hope. You know how some people are here.” Hope nodded, knowing that tragic truth; that some people just wanted to pretend that there weren’t issues here.
Granted, Hope could see the appeal to that, to get away from your chaotic life in the normal world and enter this school this a get-a-way. Sadly, with the way their lives had gone, that wouldn’t come to pass.
“Take me to him.” She asked of her friend; Josie easily complied with that want.
You were sweating, and clearly in pain. You tried not to show it, but you failed ultimately in that part. She ran to your side, biting into her wrist and shoving into your mouth without a second thought, “Come on, Y/N, drink. You need to.” Your sister begged you, you did as she asked.
She let out a sigh of relief as you stopped, laying back to take a breath; Hope looked to Josie, “He’ll be fine.” She assured her friend; Josie nodded, but fiddled with her fingers a little.
It took Hope a moment to understand her friend’s anxious behaviour around you. But she soon remembered, the way you both seemed to just drift from one another. While Hope and her hand resurrected their friendship; yourself and Josie weren’t quite there yet.
“It’s ok, I have somewhere to be anyway.” Hope said as she started to leave the room. That, however, made Josie’s eyes widen.
“Wait, wait, wait.” She called out to Hope; the girl turned around, “What…what if –”
“Josie,” Hope said, stopping her friend’s rambling as she grabbed her hands in her own and gave them a squeeze, “I have to pay Jed a visit; you can get your dad involved, I won’t hold it against you. But I think he’d get the point better.”
“And that point is…?”
“That he’s an idiot for going after Jed on his own.” With that, Hope walked away, again. This time, however, Josie let her friend go.
She looked back at your door, where you awaited some help with recovery. Someone to talk to you to distract you from your pain and help you sort this thing out (Hope, being the older twin, had instructed the super squad to keep an ear out for you and let her know when any issues arose); but, the one who was best at that was now leading the charge against the man who had hurt you.
Lizzie was busy with her own demons, MG was too sweet for this, Kaleb was warming up to you, Rafael she wasn’t sure what his reaction would be.
That left her…. Just her luck.
It wasn’t that you weren’t friends, as that was further from the truth; you were friends, but as said before, you had fallen apart from each other.
Then Josie remembered Hope’s look and words, maybe this would be good for the two of you.
So, with a breath, she entered the room. She was at least going to try and salvage your friendship and keep you alive as best she could.
Hope Mikaelson had been angry before, both pre-and post- hollow. But, this, this was something else. This rage involved her family, adopted or otherwise. You were her younger brother; nothing, nothing changed that.
So, when she saw Jed, without even thinking she punched him. The alpha stumbled backwards, holding his now bloody mouth.
He turned back to Hope, but she was ready for it escalate. No spells, she’d do this the old fashion way.
No one fucked with her family.
You were one of the quiet students; despite your name, you didn’t use it in anyway. Despite being in a supernatural school, you wanted to be semi-normal; being a student was your best bet at that. So far, you had been apart from a few stares and whispers about you as you went through the halls.
You weren’t some special tribrid like your sister; no, you were just a simple vampire who happened to be adopted by the most powerful family in vampire and a lot of supernatural lore. Meaning you got held up to see if you actually fit that name.
Jed was one of those people. He was an asshole since like day one. But he seemed to have a thing for getting under your skin; whether it be mentioning your sister or your now deceased father and uncle.
“Look who it I,” The arrogant shit said as he shadowed you down the hallway, his regular band of kissasses following just behind him.
You knew there a hierarchy to this whole wolf thing; you got it and made your peace with it, but you still rolled your eyes at it. They followed him fucking everywhere. At least Raphael was somewhat different in that he stood up for himself and stated his own wants and needs.
“Pretty ironic if you’re going to call me a freak like always, we live in a school where we’d all be called that by the people out there.” You pointed at the door to get your point across.
“Still, surprised you aren’t hiding behind your sister, seems that you practically live in her shadow after all.” Those words seemed to flip something within you. Jed noticed, his eyes having a sort of shine to them at the thought of a fight.
“You leave her out of this.” You growled, but the man only laughed.
“Hey.” You said softly as Josie came back in the room, you had become more aware of where you were. You knew you’d now make it, but the pain was still there; you were still too tired to do almost anything.
“Hey,” She said back, before clearing her throat at the awkward pause in the room, “Are you feeling any better?” She cringed a little at the words as they left her mouth, knowing the answer.
“Bit better, thanks for asking. But, uh, not my best.” You admitted fully; Josie nodded as she held up a blood bag for you. Your veins darkened instantly as you saw it, throat begging for the blood.
“We’ll have to do this slow,” She advised as she opened the bag and walked towards you, “Don’t want you to lose control.”
“Oh, like I don’t remember what I almost did last time.” She held eyes holding both pity and guilt as she too remembered back to what had almost happened the last time you had almost lost control.
If it hadn’t been for her, Lizzie and Hope, you may have been dead by now. It was a memory they’d rather forget.
Losing your father and uncle made Hope pull away from her friends at the school; the incident just mentioned, though, was what made you pull away from (almost) everyone.
“Easy, easy.” She whispered as you drank a little too fast and greedily; at her words, you took a moment to breath and stopped.
“You don’t have to do this, you know? I can take care of it from here.” You told her, both of you seemingly having the awkwardness of your dynamic at the forefront of the conversation; you did appreciate it, she could tell that. But you both just didn’t really know how to interact with each other.
“Hope’s gone to see Jed,” You let out a groan of frustration as you leaned back and hit your head against the pillow, “She wouldn’t of done it if she didn’t have a reason.” She said in a voice that rose in volume a little to get the point across.
“…Fuck.” You muttered as you drank the blood at a slower pace; but now the mood had shifted into one of guilt from both parties.
“Really, Mikaelson? You just going to stand there and not attack me? Not continue the assault?” Jed asked as he put his hand to his bloody nose.
“You hurt my brother, I hurt you.” She barked at him; doing everything she could to keep herself from making the first move.
“Oh, the kid started it.” He snapped back at her.
“By doing what? Walking around?” She guessed, anger in herself rising.
“Pretty much.” He admitted; Hope scoffed; how low could he possibly stoop?
“Anything else?” You asked as Josie had twisted the rag again; she sighed as she did so. You both hadn’t really spoken since you had the conversation before.
“I don’t know, nothing else without me bringing my dad in.” She admitted.
“That won’t end well.” You said, in a dry tone; but Josie smiled a little at your humour.
You were pretty decent at fighting; but right now, you weren’t. Right now, you had been kicked down to the floor, getting your assed absolutely kicked.
Every kick hurt, your back felt like it would snap, your lungs burned, your face was bleeding.
That was when you felt the teeth sink into your leg.
“HEY!” You heard Josie scream out as she held out her hand, the wolves all backed away from you and then ran. But, through your blurred vision, Jed gave you a warning look.
“We’ve got a problem,” Hope said as she entered the room, with no blood or injuries, Josie noted, “Jed wants round two.”
Her words sparked some protective mode in Josie; sure, she hadn’t made the best amount of progress with your bond. However, it did make her remember how close you both used to be; about how you both would be protective of the other.
She’d found that fire once again.
“Alright, we’re clear.” Hope said as she looked out at the hallway; when she said those words, Josie had your arm looped around her shoulder as she shouldered your weight and carried you across the hallway to a new room.
Now that Jed was trying to track you down, the two had the idea to get you from A to B; one room to another all-in order to keep you safe.
You were better, but not a 100% just yet. You were still weak, and probably wouldn’t survive another encounter.
“Are you ok?” You asked Hope as she led you, but kept her eyes search the area like a hawk; looking for any threat that she would need to protect you both from.
“It didn’t come to blows, if that’s what you’re worried about.” She assured you but kept her tone flat. You knew what she was going, trying to hide her feelings of worry and paranoia. You once tried that too, but it was Hope that had broken you out of that.
Now, everyone else was doing that for her. You were included in that list, obviously; but the time when you lost control damaged those odds further. All your dynamics were a little fragile at this moment. But, all three knew that things were starting to go back to some sort of normal. Some sort of equal footing.
“Come on, come on, keep going.” Josie said as you slipped a little, but she picked you back up and you continued on your way.
“I got you, I got you.” She said in a quiet voice that (if Hope hadn’t had her hearing) only you’d hear. It was soft and encouraging. It was how your friendship was; soft and nice…it was safe.
“Hey, hey, hey, hey. Come on, come on. Y/N! Hey, come one, wake up.” Josie said in a panic as she tapped her hand on your face, but you did nothing but stir and groan.
She furrowed her eyebrows for a moment, before she looked down at your leg. Her eyes widened as she pulled up your leg, seeing the bite.
“No, no, no, no.” She said in more panic as she looked back at your face as you slowly started to drift off, “Y/N, come on! Stay with me. Hey!”
You tried; you really did. You tried your hardest, but you were just too weak at this moment. You were drifting in and out; coming back to see a door, then a bed.
Josie got you into the bed, then looked at you as you struggled. She was almost having a panic attack at this point; she was tearful as she watched you groan in pain and struggle to breath.
“Hope.” She said in remembrance and left to find your sister.
“Locked, damn it.” Hope said as she pulled and pulled on the door. She looked back at you two, knowing that you both wouldn’t be great in a fight right now.
“Look who it is.” They didn’t have time to think about it, as Jed had shown up one more time with his friends at his back.
Hope had moved from behind you to in front of you.
“You’re not touching them, Jed.” She said, firmly.
You, however, pushed past her and stood in front of them, “I do this, you leave them alone.” You bargained with him, seeing no other way out.
“I’m not just leaving you –” Hope started to say.
“Yes, you will. This is my fight, Hope. Not yours.” You said to her, just tired at this point and wanting this to be over.
“No,” She said as she planted herself firmly beside you, “I’m not leaving you; I’m not letting you push me away, not again. I’m not letting you push us away, again.” She said, you looked at your sister, seeing the conviction in her eyes.
“…Ok.” You said, softly.
Hope turned to Josie, “Go get your dad, we’ll deal with this.” She said to her friend. The next moment, Josie was gone.
You both turned to Jed and his guys, sharing a look, “You ready, little brother?” She asked you.
“Ready.” You told her.
Josie was running, heart racing as she did so. She ran, ran as fast as she could do. AS she turned the corner, she bumped into her own twin.
“Josie, what’s going on?” Lizzie asked her as she held her twin’s arms.
“It’s Hope and Y/N, we need to find Dad.” She said in almost one breath. Lizzie, however, caught onto the words. Despite how she was, she did appreciate you and Hope; you were her friends, she couldn’t deny that now.
“Ok, ok.” She said, taking her twin’s hand and dragging her to their father’s office. The man had been away lately on a recruiting mission, but he was back now. So, the two knew he’d be able to help you both in your efforts.
The two bursts through Alaric’s office door, startling the man himself. He jumped as they entered; but, instead of reprimanding them, he saw the fear and concern on their faces.
“Girls, what’s going on?” He asked, his own worry growing.
“Hope and Y/N need your help.” That was all he needed to know.
Hope was at maximum efficiency, and then some. It was anger she had been storing for pretty much all day that was finally coming out when she threw a punch or muttered a spell to throw a wolf away. She wouldn’t kill them, obviously. But, as she had been told in therapy, letting out that anger every now and then was good for her.
Granted, Emma probably didn’t mean it in this way; but, as of right now, it was the only way.
She turned to you, to see you be punched and hit the floor, but you carried yourself and vamp-speeded him into a wall.
“Stop!” The two of you did so, instantly; panting heavily as you both regrouped. The wolves still wanted a fight, but one look from Alaric had them reconsidering that fact.
They scattered, leaving two tired siblings and three concerned friends of those kids.
“Are you two oks?” He asked as he put a hand on both of your shoulders.
You shared a look, “Better with her help.” She smiled at your words and nudged you lightly.
It was later, nighttime. You were laying on your bed staring at the ceiling, this time, though, with no pain in your shoulder. You just had silence, and your thoughts for you.
A knock at your door made you look up; Josie was there looking in and checking to see if you were still awake. When you sat up, she came into the room.
She silently moved to your bed, laying herself next to you, “Hi.” She whispered, both of you facing the other as you laid on your side.
“Hey.” You echoed the greeting back to her.
“Are you ok?” She asked; you let out a sigh at her question.
“Better now.” You said, she smiled lightly.
“Good, I’m glad.” She meant the words.
“Thank you,” You said, “Thank you for having my back.”
“Of course, we’re friends. Friends have each other’s back.” She meant those words too.
You believed them now.

________________
An unnecessarily long, super biased and very spoiler-y analysis of chapter 87-1 ________________
If this isn’t Father’s motto, I don’t know what is. We’ve already seen him use it on Yato and Mizuchi; seems like it’s Hagusa’s turn.
The chapter starts with Yukine’s memories that we already saw at the trial. Except now that the truth about the mysterious “box” is out, Adachitoka aren’t trying to hide anything anymore – it’s painfully obvious that it’s an old fridge that was thrown away. Haru’s father closes the door and says the last goodbye to his son.
Haru is fixing his sleeve – his arms must be hurting. Is it because they were tied? Or is it from the shots? After all, fans have suggested that he may have been ill for a long time. His bare feet and pajamas indicate that the father probably placed a sleeping boy in the fridge. I have nothing but curse words for this man, so I’ll keep my silence.
The chapter is called “The way to darkness”. Since this month’s half-chapter is only 15 pages long, the second part should be longer; that’s where we’ll see the way to darkness in all its glory.
While nothing scary happens in the chapter, it’s still kind of creepy. Father is being very, very nice to Hagusa. We know what hides behind his smile and fake care, but Hagusa doesn’t. His calling Father “father” isn’t the scariest thing here, ‘cause it can be the effect of kotonoha. But it’s unnerving how fast they have bonded, even though there are reasons for that.
Father says that Hagusa is tired from walking all day. It’s not just the fact that the house is very far from the place where he gave the boy his new name (although that seems to be the case, too) – they must have spent the day before visiting places that Father had seen in Hagusa’s memories. Except none of them did the trick – Hagusa recalled nothing about his past life from being in those places. What’s so special about the locations is hard to tell – they seem to be a 1) café, 2) probably a school, and 3) a neighborhood where Haru used to live.
And of course, the house. The building being so run-down that it’s scheduled to be demolished is not particularly surprising – who knows when it was built. The thing that interests me is its location. A house in such a close proximity to the railway is not a nice place to live in. People settle for those when they don’t have better options. In other words, Haru’s family was poor; which is nothing new, it has already been suggested by the fans, I believe. Although Father says it’s Haru’s final place of residence. Maybe the family had to move in there from a nicer house.
Haru’s memories are fragmented because they are 35 years old. Can we trust Father’s words just like that? Of course not, it’s Father we’re talking about. But I think that’s it’s one of those cases where he wouldn’t benefit much from lying, so he tells the truth. And even if there was some other reason for Hagusa’s memories to be fragmented like that, Father probably could have bent it as he pleased. For example, if it had something to do with Hagusa being part-ayakashi, he could have said “I’m sorry, but some of your memories disappeared when you started transforming. I did everything in my power to keep as much as I could”. But turning into an ayakashi is usually accompanied (or rather, caused) by an influx of memories, not their loss. Conclusion: Father isn’t lying, and we’ll come back to this.
Some of the partial memories that Father saw are: a letter, this time addressed to the sister; a symbol on a building (school?) – a flower; Haru’s father’s face; a door handle. That’s doesn’t seem to be a lot of information, but… If you’d hoped that somehow Father didn’t get to see Haru’s last moments, then I’m sorry to disappoint you. The lighting on Haru’s father’s face seems to be similar to the one in Yukine’s memories from the trial / the beginning of the chapter, so it’s probably the same memory. Father saw it, and he’s planning to use it to his advantage.
Apparently, there’s a minor translation error on the top left frame. Hagusa’s facial expression doesn’t match the phrase, and the speech bubble isn’t coming from him. It’s Father suggesting that he plays a game of finding his real name somewhere in the house, which Hagusa happily agrees to do. What Father’s doing with this little “treasure hunting” game reflects the bigger picture: he’s nudging Hagusa to look for answers about the boy’s past without actually causing any suspicions towards his intentions. What can I say, Father loves giving his kids something to play with; ask Yato, he’ll confirm that.
Hagusa discovers his nickname from when he was alive – Haru – near some height marks that belonged to him and his older sister Yuka. The smallest number that has Haru written beside it is 3 (years). It means that even if the family moved here from a nicer house, it had happened long before the boy’s death. The names Yuka and Haru are written over semi-erased names of some other children. It isn’t at all surprising, since the house is very old.
So the name Haru was useless to Father’s plan after all, since it turned out to be a nickname. For the next three pages he’s quietly seething, trying to understand why Hagusa is so happy to learn little bits of his past. Maybe Father is comparing him to Mizuchi who (until recently) has been always so reserved (too reserved) when it came to her being dead. Or maybe it has to do something with Father thinking that all humans are monsters whose real appearance starts to show when they are nudged in the right direction. In stark contrast to that idea, Hagusa is simply happy to learn that he had a sister, and a home, and the cutest nickname.
Father’s words about giving Hagusa a little push to discover the truth on his own are pretty interesting. It means that he’d planned that by this point, the boy would start getting angry at the life he could have lived. But something went wrong, so Father has to revise the plan on the go.
Hagusa asks a reasonable question: if Yato never told him anything, why is Father being so nice to him – giving him a tour, playing “treasure hunting” with his name as the treasure? Father’s answer is… intriguing.
Father manages to tell a truth and a lie within the same sentence. Hagusa, for example, finds the answer honest and not needing any further prying, so he happily goes on a walk around his neighborhood in hopes of finding someone who knew him when he was alive. And technically, the things Father says aren’t a lie. What he’s been revealing so far can hurt Hagusa, and he does trust that the boy will be able to survive. However, he’s withholding the most important part – what is this all about. His words aren’t a lie. but his intentions are.
Hagusa recalls something while looking at the door but is distracted by the ayakashi wolf. I originally assumed that the door itself could have somehow reminded him of the dreaded fridge, but the thing that actually caught his attention is obviously the door handle. It’s the same one that appeared in the bits of memories that Father saw when naming him. I’ve already made a separate post about that door handle, but I’ll repeat it here anyway. So here are a couple of things why it could have appeared in the fragments of memories that Father’s received.
1) Haru’s father was abusive to the point where the boy would be afraid to come home. So he would just stand at the front door looking at the handle, too afraid to pull.
2) Some kind of trauma could have occurred. Haru could have fallen on the handle and got an injury, either by accident or with the help of his father.
This last page shows that Father’s intentions are very serious. He’s done being the game master; he’s going to be a full-fledged player from now on and will be actively involved in the further events – and for that, he needs Hagusa. Up until this point, despite Yato’s concerns that Father was a bit too flattering when talking about Yukine, I assumed that Father only needs Yukine as a pawn; a hostage of sorts that could be used to bring Yaboku back to his “loving family”. However, Yato made it clear that that’s out of question when he tried to kill his father in earnest. So now Father has another plan – to turn Hagusa into an unbelievably strong weapon; and the one wielding it will be him, not Yato. Except Hagusa’s buoyancy has been ruining this plan so far.
As for the fragmented memories that I’ve promised to return to, I really believe that Father wasn’t lying and has only seen bits and pieces of Haru’s life, not the whole thing. It has to do something with the boy being a sudama when he was first named and not a regular ghost, like Daikoku, for example. Nora said it in the previous chapter that when Haru’s memories were intact, he had a form of a person. It means that he either started turning into a sudama after his memories began to fade, or, conversely, started losing his memories because he began turning into a sudama.
The important thing here is that if Father only saw fragmented memories, then so did Yato. Nothing in the manga suggests that the new master gets fewer of a shinki’s memories than the previous one. When Yato named Kazune, he saw Kiotsugu’s entire life from birth to death – well, maybe not all of it, but definitely the important parts. So I assume that the information Father and Yato got was identical.
And this shows once again just how much Yato cared about Yukine from the very start. Think about it: throughout this chapter we’ve been getting more and more proof that Father initially wanted to break Hagusa as soon as possible. He dragged the boy around potentially familiar places, urged him to look for his name in the house – nothing. Only after that Father decided to change his tactics and let Hagusa discover the GGS on his own, so he allowed the boy to walk around the neighborhood looking for other clues. But if he needed an immediate result, why not take Hagusa to the place of his death, which was bound to be the best trigger?
Because Father doesn’t know where it is.
Do you see it now? Father, who needed something that would break Hagusa for sure, wasn’t able to figure out the most suiting place from the bits of memories he’d received – or didn’t bother. But Yato did everything in his power to find that damn fridge, only with completely different intentions – to keep Yukine safe from that place and everything that discovering it entails. Who knows how many bridges and dumps he had to visit before finding the right area.
Nevertheless, Hagusa is with Father now, not with Yato where he belongs. As I said, the chapter isn’t frightening – by which I meant “we haven’t been shown more horrifying things from Haru’s life yet”. It’s scary in an entirely different way, because it shows how easily Father was able to earn Hagusa’s trust. He exploited everything. He turned the kid’s natural curiosity into a game – “find your name”, “go talk to the neighbors”. When Hagusa complained that Yato never told him anything, Father didn’t say a single bad word about Yato, didn’t try to turn them against each other. Instead, he focused Hagusa’s attention on himself – how he’s ready to “help” Hagusa, even if it’s dangerous, because he “cares” for him and “trusts” him – the two things Yukine has been missing lately. And the background to all this is his terrible inner monologue: how come a dead person is enjoying his “life”? It should be rectified, and the result should be used to my advantage. For ease of use, abuse.
Get ready; we’re on a path to darkness.

HBO Max New Releases:. July 2021
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
LeBron James might be out of the NBA playoffs, but he’s still angling to be a big part of the summer entertainment season. That’s because HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by a very special sequel.
Space Jam: A New Legacy premieres on July 16. will find LeBron teaming up with the Looney Tunes in a Warner Bros. IP-extravaganza. Can ‘Bron and the Looney Tunes beat the Goon Squad before Warner Bros.’ server steals LeBron “Bronny” Jr.’s soul (or something)? Let’s hope so. The two other major WB releases this month, No Sudden Move and Tom and Jerry in New York, both come to HBO Max on July 1.
HBO Max is also bringing some fun TV shows to its stream this month. The long-awaited Gossip Girl revival premieres on July 8. That will be followed by Mike White’s satirical limited series The White Lotus on July 11. Ronan Farrow’s excellent book Catch and Kill gets a docuseries adaptation on July 12.
July 1 will see the arrival of library titles like Planet of the Apes, Reservoir Dogs, and Scream. Recent hit Judas and the Black Messiah comes to HBO Max on that date as well. It’s a good month for geek TV with the Doctor Who 2020 Christmas Special (July 1), Nancy Drew season 2 (July 3), and Batwoman season 2 (July 27) all coming home to their streaming residence.

I’m Not Going Anywhere || JJ Maybank
Request: Could you do another JJ one where him and the reader get in a car wreck but they're both ok and he's like super worried about them? Btw love your stuff
“Fuck!” You yelled, seeing the time on your phone. You were supposed to be to your little sister’s birthday party a half hour ago.
“What?” JJ asked, watching from the bed as you rushed around the room searching for your discarded clothing.
“Y/S/N’s birthday party, I’m late! Oh my god my parents are going to kill me!”
He jumps up from the bed and starts pulling on his own clothes, “Let me give you a ride, John B left the van and you’ll get there four times quicker than you would on your bike.”
You nod, running your brush through your hair before throwing it into the bag you’d brought with you the night before. You follow him out to the van and jump inside, hoping your parents wouldn’t notice your absence. Your hopes were crushed when your phone rings and your mother’s contact photo pops up.
“Where the hell are you?” She asks angrily after you hesitantly press answer.
“I lost track of time, I’ll be there soon I promise.”
“I told you Y/N. You’re not going to stay over at your friend’s houses anymore if you can’t respect your father and I’s rules. Get your ass here, now.” She hangs up the phone and you sigh.
“Babe can you go a little faster?” You ask frustratedly. He nods and pressed his foot further on the gas.
“God I’m fucked,” You sigh running a hand through your hair.
“You were,” JJ smirks over at you.
“Does everything automatically become a sex joke to you?”
“Only about 69% of things.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“You didn’t think I was ridiculous while you were choking on my di-“
“JJ THE ROAD!” You scream as a large semi comes speeding down your side of the road towards you.
Everything seems to go in slow motion as JJ jerks the wheel as sharply as he can in an attempt to avoid the large vehicle. The semi barrels into the back of the van with so much force that it rips the whole back half off. Your head slams into the window so hard it cracks and your vision is clouded as your head pounds. The van spins out of control before crashing into the cement barrier of the bridge you’d been driving on.
Your vision is fuzzy as black spots cloud your vision. The pain in your head is excruciating and you can feel the blood start to run down the side of your head, soaking your hair. You can hear JJ screaming but it sounds so distant. A wave of exhaustion overcomes you as you fight to keep your eyes open.
“Y/N?! Baby please answer me!” He pleads, reaching out to stroke your hair worriedly, “It’ll be alright Y/N. Help is coming. We’re gonna be fine Baby. Stay awake, don’t go to sleep.”
Sirens. They get closer and closer until finally you can see the flashing lights speeding towards the vehicle.
-
“I’m tired JJ,” Y/N whispers, dozing off as her head continues to bleed heavily.
“No, no Y/N! You have to stay awake!” JJ cries, shaking her shoulders. Firemen and policemen run towards the vehicle as two ambulances pull up.
“Just be calm kid. We’re gonna get you out?” One of the men tells JJ.
“Please, my girlfriend is hurt bad. H-her head is bleeding and she’s unconscious!” He cries helplessly.
“We’re gonna get your girlfriend, okay? Just calm down. What are your names?”
“JJ. Maybank. And she’s Y/N L/N. She was supposed to be at her sister’s birthday party right now but we lost track of time and n-now I think she might die.”
“She isn’t going to die. We’re gonna get her out and then she’ll be sent straight to the hospital. She be okay.” The man assures but it hardly soothes JJ. His heart pounds painfully as he keeps his eyes trained on your seemingly lifeless face. You already looked dead and that’s what scared him the most.
It seems like hours before finally the passenger door has been cut off the van and paramedics are carefully loading your body onto a stretcher. JJ watches as the ambulance carrying the girl he loves pulls away and for the first time in his life he prays. He was so worried he didn’t even notice the tears rolling down his cheeks.
-
When you wake up later you immediately cringe as the harsh hospital lights shine into your eyes.
“Oh Y/N thank god,” Your mother cries suddenly, practically flinging yourself onto your hospital bed.
“W-what happened?” You ask weakly as she pulls away.
“God damn semi driver was drunk.” Your father growls furiously, “The cops said it could’ve been a lot worse. You two are lucky you made it out alive.”
“JJ?! Where is he? Is he okay?” You ask worriedly.
“He’s in the room next door. The driver’s side skidded against the cement barrier before crashing. He has a broken arm and a couple broken ribs but he was more worried about you.” Your mother informs.
The door opens and a nurse wheels JJ into the room in a wheel chair, “He wouldn’t leave us alone until we brought him in here. I hope you don’t mind?”
“No not at all. Actually honey I’m a bit hungry, do you want to go to the cafeteria?” Your mother asks and your father nods. They leave the room and so does the nurse, leaving you and JJ alone.
“I was so worried about you Y/N.” He says softly.
“JJ I’m fine. You got hurt worse than I did.” You point out.
“You started to loose consciousness and I was so scared. I thought I was going to loose you and I panicked. The blood was everywhere. They were handling you like you were so fragile. In that moment I realized that everything you love can be taken in a matter of seconds. I watched them drive you away in the ambulance and I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again.” He cries, tears running down his face. You’d never seen JJ look so vulnerable.
You climbed out of the hospital bed, despite the IV in your arm, and walked towards JJ. You climbed onto his lap, careful not to bump his arm or leg, and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“You really thought you could get rid of me that easy? I’m not going anywhere.”

The Yule Man (6/7)
Told by ME
This was meant to be a short story, but it became too big, so I separated it in seven parts. I want to turn my blog in a space where I can share my writting every once and a while.
This is the first time I post one of my stories on a public space. This is the first time anyone besides my sister will be able to read, so I'm pretty exciting and anxious. I want honest criticism. I hope you all enjoy it.
Mia tried to spend the Yule Festival in Lichthafen City with Chris multiple times. The weather always found a way to close their path. Through it all, over the years, he always felt the presence of the North Wind with him. Bringing him to Arnsberg, dragging him away, watching over him.
The desperation grew in him and he decided to risk it all. This time he had an idea, and while he didn't know if it would work, he had to try.
He marched with his sack through a deserted street. He knelt down on the cobblestone, praying he would hear him. He did.
The North Wind engulfed him in a state of mind and spirit where neither time nor distance mattered. He heard a cacophony of thousands of sly voices closer to his ear.
"Why do you call me, son?"
On his knees, he looked up.
"How long I been doing this? Bringing snow to this place, to these people."
The voice blew against him.
"Since eternity began"
"How long I will continue to go through the mortal world as a mere seasonal specter?" He said with anger.
"For as long as eternity prevail."
"Do I have a name?" He feared the answer.
"You can't have a name. You don't have a soul. You don't live."
He drew his bag.
"Please, release me of this cursed state. I won't bring snow to this place ever again. I will never stop trying to run from you."
"Are you blackmailing me?"
"Yes." He shouted. "You can't punish me. If you try, I will never open this bag again."
The voiced flew with anger.
"What do you want?"
He lowered his tone. He looked down to earth.
"I want to exist; I want to be real. I want to be part of this world instead of being a mere apparition, a shadow."
"You should be thankful for not existing. Existence is pain. You’re free from this curse. You're free from old age, disease, suffering, pain, death and heartbreak."
"You forget that I'm also free from living, finality, purpose, pleasure, life and passion. There's more in existing than pain."
"There's entropy. Your days will be numbered. Death and the end of all things will always be a certainty. If you choose this path, there's little that I can do to bring you back. You accept that."
"I do."
"I tried to protect you from this existence. All the higher powers in this world know I tried. The mortals corrupted you. There's little I can do now. Enjoy existing. You live now. You die now. Enjoy the short time you have."
Chris felt different, as if his whole world changed before his sight. He felt everything he could felt on that moment. Pain. Cold. Despair. The certainty of Death. The threat of doom. The fear of the unknown. Love and passion. Joy of being alive. Purpose in life. Hope.
"Before you go, answer back foolish mortal: How long do you think this will last."
He closed his eyes and smiled.
"For as long it shall last."
He picked his bag and rushed to Mia's tailoring shop. He reached there by the evening. A huge man dressed in gentleman clothes sat inside.
"You still haven't paid us your debt."
Mia glared at him with fear.
"Friedrich, I promise I'll pay Mr. Müller everything, but I need time."
He stepped closer to her.
"All I have to say is that he's getting tired. If I were you, I would be very careful now. Happy Yuletide."
He stormed out and bumped against Chris. The boy carefully entered.
"Who was he?"
Mia straightened her hair.
"No one you should worry about." She continued. "Where were you been? We always met by morning."
"There was something I needed to do first."
He seemed different. Mia could tell it. He dropped the fur clothes and raced to the bathroom, where once again he shaved. He stared at the bathroom windows and smiled to the town. Things were changing.
Mia and Chris talked about everything. No secrets could stand between them. Well, no secrets alas for this one. Poverty finally stroked her. This year had been hard. In desperate times, people drown in desperate justifications for poor decisions. Mia didn't want to worry Chris about any of that. She could handle her problems.
During the conversation, Chris placed his old bag over the coffee table. Mia recognized immediately that thing. She touched on it and withdrew. Too cold for her. Even mortal, only Chris still could do the job.
"This year will be the last time I carry this."
Mia became surprised.
"Why? What happened?"
He looked like her siblings during the Solstice Morning.
"He allowed it. He finally allowed it.
"Who?"
"The North Wind."
"What."
He grinned from ear to ear.
"Mia, I'm mortal now. I exist. I'm real now. I'm real!"
She jumped from the couch. Mia couldn't believe it. He got up and he pulled her hands.
"When the Yuletide is over, I am not going anywhere this time. I will stay with you..." He paused and looked at her with his most tender eyes. "If you still want to stay with me."
Mia couldn't resist him. She and Chris hugged each other. They jumped, cried, and laughed together. A wave of emotions possessed each one.
"I need to do something first."
He pulled the bag and raced to the terrace. Not understanding what happened, she ran after him. He carefully placed his hand and hers on the tying knot. It didn't freeze her hands this time.
Chris suddenly got on his knees.
"What are you doing?"
"I don't have any money to afford a ring. But I want to marry you. I don't want to leave your side as long as I may live. I want to be forever a part of your life. If you allowed me in it." He started crying.
She shouted yes and hugged him close.
"One, two, three!"
They pulled the knot and release the snow. The cold breeze and the billions of bright snowflakes seamed to dance all around them. The danced up to far away, to every house and to every person in town, to all who needed them. All in Arnsberg felt their happiness that night.
They made love with deep passion. Magic flowed between them. They knew each other's bodies down to the minimal detail.
They had troubles getting any sleep that night.
"Do you think we could spend the Summer in that Lichthafen City? You know, really this time."
"For you to play in the sand and fill our room with it" She snuggled in his arms.
"Don't forget the tiny seashells" He laughed and stared at her in silence.
"Why are looking at me?" She gently poked his nose.
"I am appreciating the idea of growing old with you!"
Sophia and her brothers showed to the shop next day, all beautiful youths by now. Chris loved them, but they always brought with them the truth: Time had passed.
They invited them to pass the Yule Festival in the mansion with them. No balls or parties, only spending time together on that big house. Mrs. Hayek had at long time carved a tomb for herself on that residence. She had assumed the role of the reclusive widow with deep care. Their kids still hoped they still could bring life for that semi-dead body. Rekindling the Yule spirit was one of these measures.
Mia couldn't bear her mother, still, she loved her siblings and wanted to spend time with them and Chris. Even more, she wanted to get away from the Cat’s-eye’s presence.
Fritz and Thomas threw the Yule Log in the fireplace. The first time in years. The Hayek Mansion seemed almost the same when he first arrived there. Yet, the changes were pretty self-evident. Less servants, less decorations. The Yule Tree was absent.
Entering the house, they saw Mrs. Hayek crawling out of her room like a reptile. The proud woman disappeared. An old bald hag dressed in long floral robes stood on her place.
She stared at Mia. Didn't pronounced a single word, then returned to her room. Mia felt a deep abyss between her and her mom. Time had been cruel with them.
They chattered, ate sweets. They told ghosts stories by the fireplace. Simple, still full of meaning to all present there. Chris felt something he thought it was impossible for him, nostalgia. The kids he played with had all grown up. Sophia was engaged. Fritz found a job out of town and he wanted to know if the rest could take care of their mother. Thomas acted as the new owner of the house.
Mia found him sitting in the stone bench of the garden gates. Snow covered everything in sight, even her fiancé.
"Are you good?"
"The snow never bothered me anyway, madam." He smirked, but with a drop of bitterness behind his playful face.
She sat next to him.
"I never stood too close to mortals. I knew you are always changing. I never thought how much. It scares me."
She didn't said a single word.
"You don't know what to say!"
She nodded in shame. He gave a half-smile to her.
Mia then saw Cat’s-eye’s men on the other side of the gate. She jumped from the bench in fear.
"What happened?" He said worried.
He turned to see what was in the direction she was looking, but he didn't saw anything.
"Nothing, I thought I saw a wild animal on the other side. It was just the trees." Lying never was Mia's strongest suit. "Let's get back inside." She pulled him by his arm.
Cat’s-eye’s men didn't knew her family had money. She avoided using the name Hayek in her tailoring shop. They didn't knew she grew up in a mansion. They knew now.

Heya, when you get chance, can you do an analysis on Nico's feelings for Percy? Like when I found out Nico had a crush on Percy I was really surprised and went back to the 1st series and reread parts, but I couldn't pin-point when they started?? Idk, I have no gaydar and I'm shiz at romance/feelings XD
Lol, to preface I should warn that I’m very ace and suck at relationships myself, but I think I have noted some places where we see the crush.
So! Book three, little Nico probably doesn’t really understand crushes and stuff and was raised in a time when liking boys was a big no-no. So he likely didn’t realize that his feelings were a crush at first.
In the third book we see Nico really admiring Percy and having a lot of faith in him. He’s semi-hero worshiping him. He expects Percy to be more than capable of keeping his sister safe, Percy gives him a semi-yes (I’ll try/do my best) and Nico assumes that of course Percy will succeed, he’s the hero!
That’s sorta where I see the first signs of a crush. He doesn’t understand the feelings he has towards Percy, and so it all funnels into hero worship. He has full confidence in Percy, after all, it’s Percy.
Percy returns without his sister (and btw who thought a fourteen year old should be the one to tell a ten? year old that his sister died? Chiron should’ve been the one to do that). And Nico obviously did not expect that ever in a million years.
Here’s where he sees that Percy isn’t infallible. Percy is a hero, but Percy failed.
Then the skeletons appear and Nico just found out his sister died, found out the one he trusted to keep her alive failed, Nico assumes the worst. Nico’s heart breaks a little and he flees.
The next book Nico seems to have realized his feelings for Percy more, but he’s also angry.
Percy just wants to help him, and constantly tries to find him. Nico avoids interacting with him as much as possible cause 1. He can’t deal with his feelings for Percy and 2. He’s so angry right now, so sad, he’s grieving and not in a healthy way.
So all the times that Nico looks away, that he snaps at Percy, that he refuses to look at him, those are all him crushing on Percy. It’s just that in his desperation to show no signs of liking Percy, he comes across as liking Annabeth instead.
When he finally stays with Percy and the group, he’s finally letting go of some of his anger. And promptly is hit with his crush on Percy even more. I mean, Percy was pretty badass in book four. And Nico sees some of it. Poor gay kid is not ready/willing to deal with his crush. Especially cause he can tell Percy likes Annabeth.
So he doesn’t want to let on any sign that he likes Percy, he pretends to hate him completely even now, he refuses to do what he wants, but will listen when others ask, he’s stubborn and a bit rude.
But book five he risks a lot to help Percy. And yes some of it is guilt for lying to Percy and almost getting him locked up for an eternity, even if not on purpose (lets be real, we’d all be mad if someone did that to us), but it’s also cause he’s crushing on Percy a lot.
He does a lot to find a way to give Percy a fighting chance, he wants Percy to live so badly. He argues with his dad, he disobeys him, he risks a lot to help Percy.
So, in the end most of the signs of his crush on Percy are in his denial and fear. He doesn’t want to admit it, he doesn’t want to show signs of it. He only starts showing more open signs in book five, and those get chalked up to being him acting out of guilt.
Once we know that Nico likes Percy, some signs become more obvious the more we look, though they can still be hard to see.
So yeah, these are what I found in Nico liking Percy.
Hope it helps!
Ask me to analyze

Thinking Bout You (Teen!Klaus Hargreeves X Teen!Reader) {SMUT}
Fandom: The Umbrella Academy Pairing: Klaus Hargreeves X Reader Word Count: 4,309 Warning: Contains EXPLICIT sexual content! Please don't read if that makes you uncomfortable. I also kind of hint at them having had sex when they were 16/17, but in this fic they’re both 18 when they have sex. The reason they’re teenagers in this is because I wanted family bonding with everyone being the same age, and Reginald trying to keep them apart. Author's Note: I'm still going to write a sequel to my Colin Ritman fic and my Peter Parker fake dating fic, but I watched Umbrella Academy (twice!) and I'm in love with Klaus and couldn't find like any smut for him so I decided to write my own. This is a semi AU in that Ben is alive and all the siblings are close because I just want them all to be happy 💖 Please let me know what you think! This is my first time writing for any Umbrella Academy characters and I did my best to keep everyone in character.
You raised an eyebrow as you heard your window sliding open, turning your head and grinning as you locked eyes with your boyfriend, Klaus.
You climbed off your bed and shut your door with a soft click.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, looping your arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss.
He smiled a little sadly. “Just wanted to see you.”
You looked at him curiously, noting the tear tracks on his cheeks that had since dried. “Reginald locked you in the mausoleum again, didn't he?”
Klaus reluctantly nodded, and you sighed as you pulled him over to the bed, laying down and encouraging him to rest his head on your chest.
He did so without complaint, curling into your warm body eagerly.
“I hate him.” You said simply, carding your fingers through his hair. “Do you want me to talk to him?”
Klaus shook his head. “No. Thank you, though. It'll just make things worse.”
You sighed but accepted his response.
“Klaus?”
He hummed and looked up at you to let you know that he was listening.
“How about I go find us some food? And when I get back up we'll watch a movie.”
Klaus smiled and nodded. “That sounds nice.”
You pressed a kiss to his forehead and padded out of the room. You let your parents know that Klaus was over, which they appreciated, before putting a bag of popcorn in the microwave and turning on the stove so you could make tea.
When the water finished boiling, you made two cups of tea and put them on a tray along with the popcorn and a package of cookies.
You carefully made your way up to your room and pushed the door open, blinking in surprise when you realized that there were now six more people in your room.
Five teleported over to you and snagged the popcorn from the tray before disappearing back onto your bed.
You raised an eyebrow at Klaus.
“I told them I was coming over, and they decided to join me.” He said with a shrug, and you chuckled.
“Alright, well, I only have two cups of tea, does anyone want me to make more?”
“I would love a cup.” Allison said sweetly, and Vanya raised her hand to indicate that she wanted one too. Diego and Luther both shook their heads.
“Please,” Ben said, smiling.
“Do you have hot chocolate?” Five asked. He didn't give you a chance to respond before he was teleporting into your kitchen and, you assumed, digging through your cabinets.
You handed one cup of tea to Klaus before kissing him sweetly. “Feel free to pick a movie, guys.” You said, gesturing to your bookshelf that was filled with dvds. “I'll be right back!”
Thankfully, Five had gotten the water started for you, and as you poured the tea, he teleported the cups upstairs, so the only thing you had to carry up were two more bags of popcorn.
“I'm going to need to get a bigger bed.” You said, laughing. Klaus, Ben, and Vanya were seated on your bed, Allison was on a bean bag chair in front of your bed, and Five and Luther were sitting on pillows on the ground.
You tossed a bag of popcorn to Allison and handed the other one to Ben as you plopped down on your bed. Klaus’ arm instantly wrapped around your waist, pulling you close to him.
You curled into him happily as the opening credits to The Princess Diaries started. You wondered if Allison had rumored the boys to get them to agree to watch it, and the wink she shot you confirmed your suspicions.
You glanced around at your boyfriend and your best friends, and you smiled contentedly. You loved spending time with all of them.
-----
About halfway through the movie, you heard someone pounding furiously at your front door. The blood drained from all of your faces; there was only one person that could be.
“Quick, get out of here, I'll cover for you.” You said, ushering everyone over to your window. Five started teleporting people home as fast as he could while you gathered up all the cups and popcorn bags and hid them in your closet.
You heard your parents opening the door and their surprised voices before someone began angrily stomping up the stairs to you room.
“Where are they?” Reginald hissed as he flung open the door to your room.
“Where's who?” You asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
“My children have been missing for almost an hour. They're supposed to be training, not watching whatever...that is.” He said with a huff, gesturing to the tv.
“Even if they were here, which they're not, they're training all the time. They need a break sometimes.”
“I decide when they get a break.” Reginald barked.
You scowled. “You never give them a break. They're kids! They should be allowed to have fun.”
Reginald glared at you for a moment. “I forbid you from speaking to any of my children ever again.”
You chuckled. “Your kids make their own choices. Besides, they're almost adults, and you won't be able to control them forever.”
“Stay away from my children.” Reginald said before turning and leaving your room abruptly.
You could hear him stomping angrily down the stairs.
You fought back a scream as you felt a hand suddenly covering your mouth, scrambling to turn around and blinking in surprise when you saw that it was Klaus. You pulled his fingers away from your mouth.
“What are you still doing here?” You hissed, pushing him towards the window. “You need to get out of here or your dad's gonna kill you.”
“I was hiding in the closet. Wow, didn't think I'd ever be saying that.” Klaus said, chuckling. “I wanted to make sure nothing happened.
You opened your mouth to respond but Klaus moved towards you before you could.
Klaus’ hands cupped your cheeks as he leaned in and kissed you deeply. “You are so amazing. I can't believe you said that to my dad.”
“I hate how he treats you and your siblings. It's not fair. You all deserve so much better.”
“At least I can move out of that hell hole soon.”
Your eyes lit up. “We should get a place together! I have some money saved up from working at the mall.”
“Are you sure you wanna be around me 24/7?” Klaus teased. “I'm a handful.”
“All I've wanted for the last two years is to be around you 24/7. You're my favorite person, and I can't think of anything better.”
Klaus’ eyes were suddenly glossy with unshed tears. “How on Earth did I get so lucky?” Klaus asked and pulled you towards him, kissing you like he couldn't get enough. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” You responded easily, smiling as you tugged him into another kiss before pushing him towards the window. “You gotta go though, baby. Your dad is gonna be pissed, and I don't wanna make it any worse.”
Klaus sighed and reluctantly began climbing out the window.
“Tell the others I'm sorry I got you in trouble and that I love you all.”
“We know that already, silly.”
You chuckled. “I know, but a reminder never hurts.” You pressed one more quick kiss to his lips before his face dipped past your window sill. “I'll see you tomorrow!” You called out as his feet hit the ground, and he started running to his house.
You hoped that he and the others wouldn't get in too much trouble.
-----
You hoped in vain.
Not only did Reginald punish the kids, he strictly enforced not letting his children see you. This was especially hard for you and Klaus.
Klaus managed to sneak out with Five's help once to let you know what was going on, but his father had locked him in the mausoleum for almost a whole day afterwards, so you agreed that it was for the best if you just waited until after his 18th birthday to see each other.
It was only a few months away, how bad it could be?
It was the worst for you and Klaus, obviously, but it was miserable even for his siblings. Not only did they miss you, but Klaus was grumpy and easily irritated which made them grumpy and irritated. It was a vicious cycle.
By the time their birthday finally rolled around, they were all eager to get out of the house and see you.
Klaus skipped up to your door before knocking loudly. His heart fluttered when you opened the door a half a second later.
“__y/n__,” Klaus breathed, his hand reaching out to cup your cheek. You arched into the touch, sighing happily.
“Klaus, oh my god, I missed you so much.” You sobbed, throwing your arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.
Klaus tilted your head so he could kiss you, his lips finding yours easily, and you moaned at the action, forgetting that Klaus’ brothers and sisters were right next to him.
You pulled away when Five coughed loudly, your cheeks flushed.
“You guys can go,” Klaus said roughly, trying to push you through the doorway while waving for his siblings to leave.
You gently smacked his arm. “We'll have time later to do whatever you want.” You murmured into his ear before opening the door wider and letting everyone into your house.
“It's so good to see you all.” You said sincerely, hugging each sibling individually. “I'm sorry this happened.”
You were immediately hit with a chorus of “It wasn't your fault.”, “Our dad's just a dick.”, and “I'm sorry too.”
You led everyone into the kitchen, Klaus’ arm around your waist, where there was a large cake that said “Happy Birthday
Klaus, Ben, Five, Vanya, Allison, Luther, Diego!” in red frosting.
“It was so hard to fit all your names on there that I had to start over twice.” You said, chuckling, and the others laughed too. “Happy birthday! I have presents in my room, let me go get them.”
“I'll help!” Klaus volunteered immediately, following you up the stairs to your room.
You barely made it through the door before Klaus had you pressed against the wall, his lips finding your neck as his fingers worked on unbuttoning your jeans.
“Klaus, baby, not yet.” You insisted, pulling him away from you with some effort. “As soon as we get presents handed out and cake eaten we'll come back up.”
Klaus whined. “But I want you now.”
You sucked in a breath. “I want you now too but your siblings are waiting for us downstairs.”
“So we'll make them wait.” Klaus suggested, voice rough.
You shook your head. “I don't wanna rush. I'll make it up to you once they're gone, promise.”
Klaus sighed dramatically and buttoned your jeans back up. “Fine.”
You chuckled and pressed a chaste kiss to his cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Klaus said, admiring your butt as you bent over to pick up some presents. “Where’s mine?” Klaus asked curiously, noting that his name wasn't on any of the boxes you picked up.
“Your present is...better given in private.” You said after a moment, and you watched as Klaus swallowed thickly and his eyes darkened.
“You're trying to kill me, aren't you?”
“Of course not. I'm not the one who can see the dead.” You teased, and Klaus’ lips twitched into a smile. “Now can you help me carry these?”
Klaus grabbed half of the boxes from you and carefully made his way downstairs with you following behind. You were only a little surprised to see that Ben and Five had already cut into the cake, and they were each happily eating a slice.
“Okay, guess we're doing cake first, then presents. Everyone get a slice.” You said with a chuckle, depositing the presents on the counter before hopping up beside them.
Klaus handed you a paper plate with the slice of cake that had his name on it and a fork.
“You're supposed to eat first, it's your birthday.” You said fondly, accepting the plate anyway.
Klaus shrugged. “I know.” He went back to the table to grab a piece for himself before jumping onto the counter beside you. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “Thank you for the cake and the party.”
You grinned. “You're welcome. I hope everyone likes their presents.”
Klaus looked you up and down. “I know I'll like my present.” He purred.
You almost choked on your cake. “You are incorrigible.”
“You guys are gross.” Ben called out from across the room, and Klaus responded by flipping him off.
“Nobody asked you.” Klaus singsonged, and Ben just rolled his eyes.
“Okay,” You said, jumping down from the counter once everyone had finished their cake. “Present time!”
You dispersed presents quickly, smiling as everyone tore into the umbrella-print wrapping paper that you hadn’t been able to resist.
Vanya's lower lip trembled when she saw what you had gotten for her: a beautiful violin case engraved with her name, and a note attached reminding her that you were always happy to attend her recitals.
You heard Allison squeal with excitement as she opened her gift, a variety of new makeup and skincare products she had been dying to try.
Diego got an ornate hunting knife with his name engraved into the handle, and he hefted it around in his hands, checking the weight, before he gave you a thumbs up.
Ben had received several of your favorite books that you thought he would like, and he blew you a kiss before eagerly beginning to flip through the pages.
You had gotten Five a silver pocket watch with a picture of all of you together carefully glued inside. He quickly attached it to the belt loops on his shorts and slid it into his pocket.
Luther had been the hardest for you to find a gift for, as he never really asked for or wanted much. After much deliberation, you had decided on a long, thick, wool coat. Luther put it on and grinned at how well it fit, walking over to you and hugging you tightly. “Thank you, __y/n__.” He said warmly. “I love it.”
The other siblings began chorusing their thank yous, and the smile on your face was brighter than the sun. Klaus thought you never looked more beautiful than you did in that moment.
Luther drew you, Klaus, and the others into a group hug that you all needed.
“I love you all, so much.” You said sincerely as the hug broke apart.
“We love you too, __y/n__.”
“And we can't thank you enough for keeping this bonehead happy.” Diego said teasingly, clapping his hand on Klaus’ shoulder.
“Where's Klaus’ present?” Vanya asked politely, feeling guilty that she hadn't noticed sooner.
Your cheeks flushed as Klaus spoke up for you. “I get my present once you're all gone, so feel free to leave whenever.”
“V, let's go home so I can do your makeup!” Allison suggested excitedly, and Vanya nodded, smiling as Allison took her free hand and led her towards the door.
“Later.” Five said, shrugging at Klaus’ request and disappearing
“Fine with me, I wanna start reading these.” Ben said cheerfully and followed his sisters, his books clutched tightly to his chest.
“I wanna practice with this baby,” Diego agreed, admiring the knife you had given him as he walked out the door.
“Thank you again, __y/n__.” Luther said and gave you a wave before he too was gone.
“You didn't have to rush them out like that,” You said, frowning slightly.
Klaus caged you in against the counter, his lips brushing against your ear. “It's my birthday too, __y/n__, and I'm tired of waiting for my present.”
You swallowed thickly as you felt your cheeks grow warm.
“Let's go upstairs then.” You said after a moment of silence, and Klaus grinned.
“That's the best idea you've had all day.” Klaus murmured, licking his lips as he followed you up the stairs.
-----
“Are your eyes closed?” You asked, poking your head out of the bathroom. Klaus was lying on your bed in nothing but a pair of black boxers, and you swallowed thickly as you admired his toned stomach and long legs.
He looked absolutely beautiful.
“Yes.” You made your way over to the bed and straddled his waist. His eyes instantly flew open, and when he saw the lingerie you were wearing, he groaned loudly.
You were wearing a black, baby doll style negligee. The cups were lacy, and the rest was sheer. You also wore thigh high socks, and when you lifted up the hem of the baby doll, Klaus realized you had no underwear on.
“Figured there was no need for them.” You purred, and Klaus groaned again as his fingers trailed along your slit.
“You're already so wet, baby.” He murmured, slipping one of his fingers inside you and gathering your wetness. He pulled it out after a moment and licked it clean.
“God, I missed you.” You murmured, bucking your hips impatiently.
“Just Klaus will do.” He teased and leaned up to kiss you deeply. You moaned into the kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck and grinding down against his throbbing erection.
Klaus groaned at the action, and you felt yourself grow wetter at the sound.
“I'm so lucky.” You said softly, running your fingers through his hair. Klaus leaned into your touch and hummed happily.
He grabbed your other hand and pressed kisses to your fingertips before placing a kiss on your palm.
“I'm luckier.” Klaus assured, and you giggled.
“It's not a competition.”
“Of course not,” Klaus agreed, kissing your shoulder. “But if it was…”
You rolled your eyes fondly. “I'm not gonna argue with you on your birthday.”
“Good.” Klaus’ lips found yours again, his kisses growing rougher and messier as you rolled your hips against his.
You whined suddenly, and Klaus raised an eyebrow at you.
“Do you want something, love? Speak up.”
“Can you eat me out? Please?”
Klaus chuckled and flipped you over gently, kissing down your chest and stomach before he reached your thighs.
“With pleasure.”
You moaned as he nibbled at your thighs before bringing his mouth to your dripping core.
“Somebody missed me, huh? Klaus said teasingly, and your hands twisted in his hair as you nodded.
“So much. Missed everything about you.”
“I wonder,” Klaus began, licking one long stripe up and down your pussy. “How many nights you made yourself cum,” He slid one long finger inside you as he sucked at your clit. “Imagining my cock fucking you.”
You gasped, amazed you had been able to forget just how dirty Klaus’ mouth was. “Every night.” You answered honestly.
“Really?” Klaus said approvingly, flicking his tongue in and out of you at a rapid pace.
You nodded. “It was the only thing that could get me off.”
You lost your train of thought as he slipped a second finger into you alongside the first, plunging them deep inside you while he wrapped his lips around your clit and sucked. The slurping sounds he was making were absolutely filthy, and you knew you were dripping all over his face.
Reluctantly, you tugged his head away from your pussy and up to your face so you could kiss him deeply. “I need you to fuck me right now.”
Klaus inhaled sharply. “Your wish is my command.” He reached over to your nightstand to grab a condom but your hand on top of his made him pause.
“I want to feel you tonight. All of you.” Klaus almost came at your words alone.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, baby, I'm sure. Now fuck me.” You whined impatiently, wiggling your hips as Klaus wriggled out of his underwear. His lips met your as he lined his cock up with your entrance, and you both gasped as he easily slid all the way in.
“You feel so fucking good.” You praised, and Klaus smiled.
“You feel better.”
He pulled almost all the way out before he thrusted back in sharply. You moaned in unison and pulled him down so you could kiss him.
“I,” Klaus fucked into you deeply. “Love,” Another hard thrust. “You.” He punctuated the last word with a deep thrust.
“I love you too.” You murmured back with a smile. Klaus’ lips moved to your collarbone, licking and sucking, before travelling to your neck.
Before you could stop him, he sucked a dark purple hickey where you wouldn't be able to hide it without a scarf or turtleneck, making you frown.
“Klaus,” You whined. “My parents are gonna see that.”
Klaus chuckled, the sound rumbling against your throat. “So? I want everyone to know that you're mine.”
You inhaled sharply, and Klaus felt your pussy tightening around his cock. “You can't just say things like that.”
“Why not? You like my dirty mouth.” Klaus teased, reaching a hand in between your bodies so he could begin rubbing your clit.
“No, I love your dirty mouth.” You corrected, and Klaus groaned and captured your lips in a dirty kiss.
You smiled into the kiss before gently pushing Klaus off of you, whimpering as his cock slipped out of you.
“Something wrong, love?” Klaus asked in concern, and you shook your head as you flipped over and propped yourself up on your hands and knees, wiggling your butt at him.
“Just wanted to switch positions before you made me cum.” You purred, and Klaus almost choked on his tongue. He moved behind you immediately, using one hand to guide himself to your entrance and using the other to squeeze your breast.
“You’re so hot.” Klaus murmured. You felt your cheeks flush, and Klaus didn’t miss the way you clenched around him. “So sexy,” He continued, rolling your nipple between his fingers as he fucked into you hard. “The most beautiful person on the planet.”
You moaned as Klaus’ lips began sucking and biting your neck and shoulders, feeling yourself get impossibly wetter and closer to cumming.
“You gotta stop talking like that or I’m gonna cum,” You said with a whine, and Klaus nibbled on your earlobe as his hand moved from your breast to your clit.
“What’s wrong with that?” He asked huskily. “If you wanna cum baby, then go ahead and cum all over my cock.”
With Klaus whispering dirty things in your ear, his fingers rubbing your clit at a punishing pace, and his cock pounding into you roughly, it only took a few more minutes before you were twisting your neck around so you could sloppily kiss him and cumming with a loud moan. You loved cumming around his cock, and you knew Klaus loved it too, loved to feel the way you tightened up as he continued to fuck you through your orgasm.
Once you were finished, Klaus pulled out of you and flopped onto his back, and you quickly moved between his legs so you could take his cock into your mouth.
It only took a few pumps of your hand before he was spilling into your throat with a groan, his hands fisted in your hair.
You swallowed it down eagerly, swirling your tongue around to gather the excess before Klaus gently eased you off. He dragged you into a kiss, licking into your mouth and groaning as he tasted himself.
“You're too good to me.” Klaus murmured as you cuddled up to his chest, and one of his hands began stroking your hair.
“Nonsense.” You disagreed, peering up at him and pressing a kiss to his jaw. “You are so much better than you give yourself credit for.”
“You're just saying that.” You narrowed your eyes at him.
“Klaus, look at me.” You said firmly and gently grabbed his chin, forcing him to look at you. “You are kind and smart and talented, and you have the biggest heart of anyone I've ever met. I am so lucky to know you and love you.”
Klaus quickly wiped his eyes. “I love you so much.”
He pulled you into a kiss, and you could feel his love and adoration for you pouring out.
You smiled as he broke the kiss, resting your forehead against his and sharing his air. After a beat of silence, you climbed off your bed, rummaging around in your desk drawer before returning with a small gift box.
“What's this?” Klaus asked, raising an eyebrow at you as you extended your arm out to him. “I thought you were my present.”
“It's your birthday, you deserve more than one present.” You said with a shrug.
Klaus lifted the top of the box and found a simple black ring inside. Examining it, he realized that there was an engraving on the inside.
I love you always <3
“It's a promise ring.” You said after a moment of silence. “I know we're too young to get married yet, but I know that I want to marry you someday.”
“You do?” Klaus asked, and he sounded more surprised than you were expecting.
You smiled and leaned in to kiss him. “Of course I do.”
Klaus’ lower lip trembled as he carefully took the ring out of the box and slid it onto his ring finger.
“I can't wait to marry you.” Klaus said softly, admiring the ring on his hand. “I'm never taking this off.”
“Good.” You said, grinning widely. “Happy birthday, love.”
“Happy birthday to me.” Klaus agreed, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
You cuddled against Klaus, enjoying the warmth of his bare skin against yours. You still couldn't believe you had gotten so lucky. Klaus was thinking the same thing.
End. <3
