Chapter 212 Notes.
● Short but vey enjoyable chapter. The art was more stellar than ever, the backgrounds especially eye-catching.
● Although it mainly seves as a breather and a recap of sorts, I think there were many intersting aspects worth inspecting closer:
▪︎ Are they being monitored?
I couldn't help but notice how often Ciel and Sebastian paused mid-sentence or trailed off at the end of one, especially Sebastian, which is very uncharacteristic of him.
He's taking the time to choose his words very carefully. Speaking of which, does anybody else find it incredibly weird that they're going into such detail about their plans in public while enjoying tea in broad daylight? They're so obviously going out of their way to seem careless.
Edit: I forgot to point out that unlike many (all?) of their past investigations, Ciel chose to not go undercover. He's blatently flaunting his identity, fully expecting to be recognized. It's part of the plan. It does seem like he's trying to lead the police somewhere and use them to restore his public image.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out they're being tailed. Sebastian noticed it from the second they got on the train, and alerted Ciel through this silent exchange:
He prompted Ciel to get out of the cabin. Then, I guess Ciel decided to remain in the dining car for the entire ride because his pursuers likely won't make an attempt at his life a crowded area, alarming and possibly endangering innocent civilians. Seb got Ciel's drift hence his sarcastic remark:
Our duo might clash with said pursuers the second they reach the station however, they might opt for keeping a low profile and swiftly bypass them.
(Note: We've got some shots of the curtains/windows for no apparent reason, too... Maybe this is the BOM fan in me speaking but it is very suspicious lol.)
▪︎ Our duo will have to transfer at Redhill before resuming their journey to Brighton. I don't believe we were given this piece of info for nothing. Perhaps we will witness some action with the Yard/their pursuers before the hotel nightmare begins.
▪︎ Lastly, from the title page with the train ticket, to the cabin, to the dining car, Ciel and Seb were always facing each other. Not once were they shown to stand or walk next to each other. Is it hinting at a future confrontation/separation? Or are they finally seeing eye to eye, sitting at a table as equals? 🤔 hmm. Perhaps it doesn't mean anything lmao. Still, on my second read, the way they were positioned/framed really caught my eye.
That's all! I don't think we will get to Brighton right away, next chapter but I can't wait to see my scheming devil spawn and his demon of a butler in action!

i think it fucks immensely that bk moon went out of his way to 1) establish rakiel wished to live a long life and eventually pass away of old age, 2) have him very briefly envy an immortal being only to be told very clearly to be careful what he wishes for by that very same person because living forever isn't all it's cracked up to be, 3) make the main antagonist be another immortal being who is so desperate to die he's willing to destroy the universe just to finally rest and 4) have said antagonist psychologically torture rakiel with the threat of making him live for a thousand years as everyone he loves and knows eventually grows old and dies and becomes nothing but forgotten memories.
only to then end the novel by making rakiel also immortal
like. god. it's so fucking good i love it. i'm not being sarcastic i genuinely think it fucks and it's one of the best ways bk moon could've wrapped up the plot.
it's a happy ending by all means but it has consequences and through the entire novel we've been shown and told over and over again just how heavy the consequences are and/or will be on rakiel.
he got his happy ending but it was at a price and by the last time we see him he's only just starting to pay for it.
it's great i love it

KamaFushi, how would the two of them act when jealous?
I imagine Fushimi getting annoyed at how generally friendly Kamamoto is with everyone, since Fushimi’s the type who wants his boyfriend to pay the most attention to him. He probably gets particularly irritated in summer, when suddenly now that Kamamoto’s all skinny and conventionally bishounen all the girls want to surround him. Fushimi already finds the whole summer/winter change bothersome (I imagine he actually prefers winter Kamamoto, who’s warmer and more comfortable to be around) but seeing Kamamoto suddenly being effortlessly charming to all these girls gets on Fushimi’s nerves, like at least tell them you’re taken idiot. I imagine him like sitting in a corner brooding at first, scowling into his PDA as he tries to ignore all these girls hitting on his man. The irritation slowly grows, Fushimi clicking his tongue pointedly and possibly making some level of fuss because he wants to get Kamamoto’s attention but doesn’t want to, like, admit that he wants Kamamoto’s attention. Eventually he either hits a breaking point or some girl goes a bit too far and then I imagine Fushimi stepping in with some acid comment about irritating shallow hangers-on who need to find something better to do. Kamamoto sighs and tells Fushimi not to be rude to girls but he also gets that this is how Fushimi is and lets himself be dragged off.
On Kamamoto’s end he strikes me as the kind of guy who doesn’t get easily jealous, he seems like he’s just rather easy-going in general and I feel like he’d be pretty secure in his relationship that just seeing someone else talking to Fushimi doesn’t trigger any jealousy in him or anything. In a way I could see that in and of itself bothering Fushimi, like he actually kinda wants Kamamoto to show that he feels jealous of other people wanting Fushimi’s attention. If someone did manage to get Kamamoto riled enough to feel jealous though I think he’d just step right in, like maybe an alphabet boy gets a little too close to Fushimi and is all laughing and being familiar and Kamamoto suddenly finds himself moving between them, using his bulk to his advantage. He apologizes for knocking the alphabet boy over, because Kamamoto’s nice like that, but he’s not entirely sincere about it and he’s already focusing his attention on Fushimi. Fushimi takes in what just happened and then smirks a bit, letting Kamamoto kinda tower over him and ‘shield’ him from anyone else who might want to talk to him.

One of the coolest things my friend Kris said, "A good headcanon differs from the canon knowingly, not out of wilfull ignorance".
Like, there is a big difference between being corrected (not always for an indisputable reason, but the intention matters) and being creatively policed! When someone shares a headcanon and you know the canon bit that contradicts it, just say it! Either they could reconsider their idea with the new information or say "yeah cool but I prefer to write my own thing, not to be 100% accurate to the canon" which are both valid. Because, the latter one knowingly differs from the canon!
But like, apparently in the eyes of some people, being informed on what was missed equals baiting hostility, policing creativity or whatnot? Like, yet again, if someone gets straight up angry and vindictive at being reminded that they are in the fandom, for something with pre-existing information, then it loops back to the question of why they are in a fandom and not doing their own original project to begin with! I can't find any other reasoning for admitting you do not want to even know canon and only here to take basic surface bits to make your own thing besides the fact that pre-existing fanbase just will engage more willingly even with canon divergent portrayals, stories and just AUs!
But like... you can't be in a fandom while expecting to never have any discussion with other fans about this story and characters! Being told that you are wrong and being told that you are wrong for BEING wrong are two whole different things, and mentality of fans not being allowed to say anything besides agreement, when it is about pre-existing media, is straight up lame and not what fandoms are about. Not everyone who points what is missing a petty redditor that hates headcanons; most of the "well actualies" come from the place of love for both canon and headcanons! This is the case of "before you break the rules you need to know them", but people that tell what rules are are anything but wrong, hostile or immature. People that say "you come into my house and maliciously ruin my fun" when they hear about those rules, however?
Again: a good headcanon differs from the canon knowingly, not out of wilfull ignorance.

Having Nonbinary Sapphic Tuvok Brainrot Lately…
You're the realest motherfucker on planet Earth and I hope you know that.
Here's a bunch of bullshit I doodled on the topic of Nonbinary Sapphic Tuvok !!!! And I HOPE you will share YOUR personal brainrot with the class (my ask box, the masses, a text post....whatever gets the word out.)
If you've been paying attention you KNOW I love a 'Tuvok discovers he's trans while in the delta quadrant' story
Guy who likes girls and has always liked girls...but....not in the same way OTHER guys seem to like girls...
Tuvok who never quite fit in with 'other' men even Vulcan men...always preferred spending time with women and girls but never felt precisely LIKE a woman or OVERLY uncomfortable with being identified as a man and Vulcan society doesn't seem like it would be heavily gendered so he never really questioned it seriously.
Tuvok who found comfort in titles like Husband and Father...those fit, those are good. Then in the delta quadrant he isn't able to be a husband or a father any more and is just some guy surrounded by humans...hmmmmmm....
Still doesn't really seriously think it's worth questioning or exploring his gender identity (partially out of a desire to return home as he left...what will his wife and children think? He's experienced a LOT of sudden change in regards to his personal identity and life, he doesn't really want to undergo more.) until Seven of Nine comes along and also begins to go through a "Questioning Her Gender" arc.
Tuvok thinks about it on his own time for a long time and then finally goes to Janeway for support and assistance and together they spend like SEVERAL months just the two of them seeing what this whole gender thing's about.
Tuvok slowly exploring expressing himself in a more feminine manner because he's spent his whole life adhering rigidly to one sort of Look. Unexpectedly struggles with anxiety about this.
Neelix: Don't be nervous Ms. Vulcan!
Tuvok: [nervous] I am not nervous.
Tuvok and Seven BOTH exploring masculinity/femininity and their own nonbinary gender identities...late night slumber par- experimentation. Painting each others nails is...very scientific. It's important. Talking with Janeway was good because she's his friend but talking with Seven, another person actively questioning their gender is....well, it's something else.
