In Eric Rincewind encounters- while time traveling or parallel universe hopping or whatever- a soldier character implied to be a mirror of Rincewind

"- didn't look like a soldier at all. He had the armor, which was tarnished, and he had the helmet, which looked as though its plume had been used as a paintbrush, but he was skinny and had all the military bearing of a weasel. There was something vaguely familiar about his face, though. Rincewind thought it looked quite handsome."

This soldiers name is Lavaeolus - like 'lava' in Latin, to wash... or rinse ("Rinser of winds" is the translation given later in the narrative) As the dialogue goes on Lavaeolus is revealed to be a famed mythical figure mirroring Odysseus

"Lavaeolus was responsible for the fall of Tsort, on account of being so cunning... and then afterward it took him years to get home and he had all sorts of adventures with tempresses and sirens and sensual witches."

Which means Terry is showing us a comparison between Rincewind and Odysseus. Given that they're both characters constantly on long journeys away from danger and on adventures they don't want to be having, I just think that's a very clever and neat way to bend the trope.

up to when chris caught it, theres been no cure found, as angels like i said, are seen as a good thing. People will call you insane for not wanting “such a blessing” and doctors outright refuse to treat you and congratulate you. Every angels also have disappeared and never discovered, so at that point many assumed they “went back to heaven”, but based on many body malfunctioning examined at that point, its basically a terminal illness. No case was ever documented of reversing basically is what im saying here ^_^

1. favorite fic you wrote this year

man… i will always always love of linked arms and bruised hearts :’)) i know that the writing style may be just average but i have such a personal connection to that story. maybe its because i definitely self projected but i will always love friendships!!! i feel that its become such an important and recurring theme in my fics, if i’ll be honest <3

another favorite of mine is familiarity (it’s all sticky) <3 definitely an idea ive had for a long time and i had lovely @wuahae betaread it :’)) its very personal to me… idk i like to think of it as a fic that commemorates not only how much i do l*ve that loser but also how much i love cat <3

idk if this is cheating but of guitar strings and peeled tangerines earns its spot too!! the outline i made since the second half of the year and ive really been hyped and happy writing it <3 i feel like its a reflection of the nooks and crannys of moni imo </3 so its crazy that it’ll be even more personal than of linked arms and bruised hearts

OH I DEFINITELY HAVE SO MUCH FAVORITE ONES 😭😭 and alot of them will be from of linked arms and bruised hearts im afraid… i have a bad habit of rereading my works to see what i can improve on or what couldve been changed but also its a way to reflect on my growth as a writer

first, we have the scenes where reader and jichang come back to cheongju for the holidays :’) i think its just sooo domestic imo and it really does have u reflect on what reader and jichang have <3 i personally love the scene where reader finds out jichang has been keeping clippings of their articles <3 it does smth to my lil heart <3

another one is of course the train ride back home… idk to me its just a very sentimental scene about the idea of home and how they find it in each other :’))) particularly these passages always do smth to me

another scene in particularly loved writing is the scene between kevin and reader where they talked about reader’s life… they were discussing editorship and possible topics for the opinion piece and i just thought that the whole reflection of it was beautiful :’)

now for of guitar strings and peeled tangerines… ugh so much to say… first off i loved writing the scene where reader comes back to town… its the whole progression of them getting off the station, meeting juhak again, arriving at their father’s restaurant, u know the vibes :’)) in between every passage, u really see how much grief and resentment they hold towards this town.

The waves are strong enough to tip your balance. You do everything to stand on your own feet. The image of Jacob you drew on the sand has been washed off—it’s your fault for drawing it too close to the shore. 

i know u particularly love this line and i think i do too now :’) smth i didnt know i would enjoy </3

another one i loved writing is the flashback… the first time we see how much peeled tangerines mean between the two… just so much astonishment joy and love <3

rah i think my favorite charas to write abt were definitely the friendgroup in of linked arms and bruised hearts! i also really loved writing moonbae and reader :’))) to me, they just have so much love for each other!!! it was just so nice to see them grow in my eyes as well

if were talking abt members tho, i did love writing about eric :’))) i know i couldnt give justice to the plot with my whack writing style but it was a treat to write abt that lil guy!

Monsters, Marines...An archaeologist?

It is amazing how a life and death situation can bring people together... or tear them apart. Sally finds that piggybacking off Eric King's mission in Iraq bought her more than she bargained for. Death? Life? ...A Marine?

Part One

Jason Kolchek/OFC

''Right there! We'll have to lower the ladder! Havent got the time to wait for his highness to move!'' She yelled to her company as she moved to drop the ladder. ''Remember! Don't stray too far and stick to the story! We're technically not supposed to be here!''

With that, she grabbed her bags and descended the shaky ladder suspended mid-air by the hovering helicopter.  The wind force from both helo's made it difficult but she managed just fine enough to make it to the floor of the roof. Camp Slayer wasn't what she expected the camp to be, she expected tents and soldiers, not a whole ass palace that once belonged to Saddam.

''You're here! Great timing.'' Eric King greeted her, accepting his fate into the tight hug that was always usually accompanied with a lipstick mark on his cheek. Sure enough, just like every time, Eric lifted his hand to wipe off the lipstick as he turned to the Lieutenant he'd just met. ''Lieutenant, This is Sally Dane, Archaeologist. She'll be joining us on this mission.''

''First lieutenant Jason Kolchek, Pleasure to meet you.'' Said Lieutenant was confused. She shouldn't be here, departing into a warzone dressed in simple cargo trousers and a tank top. additionally, she was British, so why had the Colonel enlisted outside help from a British Archaeologist.

''Sir? An Archaeologist?'' Eric nodded as Clarice and Sally talked quietly to themselves, giving Kolchek the chance to continue trying to read the woman. ''Well, she is an Archaeologist but she's not here to be one. I'm not at liberty to discuss her business with you, Though. You'll have to ask her for those answers.''

A part of Kolchek wanted to argue, wanted to know right then and there, but he had just watched her climb down a ladder that was swinging wildly in the air. No normal Archaeologist would be able to do that without some visible struggling, Archaeologist his fucking ass, there was more to this woman...this beautiful woman.

Shit.

Merwin's gonna say something stupid, several times. Kolchek just knew it. Nevertheless, the briefing room was prepped already and it was time to go, there was no need to keep them waiting on the roof.

Kolchek opened the door for them, out of respect before taking the lead once more to show them the way to the briefing room. It was not long until they came to Merwin, working out on the bench press as you could usually find him doing in his downtime.

''I see you old man, keep busting out those reps.'' Kolchek quipped, hoping beyond god that he didn't say something stupid to the women.

''Come and join me, Maybe I'll teach you a thing or two.''

''Later. We have company.''

''Yeah, well, Maybe Missy here would like to watch me get my sweat on.'' From her hiding spot behind Eric, Sally tried not to laugh, grinning at Clarice when the woman looked over in annoyance; silently asking to be saved. ''Wanna spot me, little lady?''

''I can see you just fine from here, thanks.'' Clarice then turned to Sally with a shit-eating grin. ''Sally, You can spot him, right?''

''With a clean scope? For sure. Can't miss him.''

Kolchek glanced to Sally, 'Ignore Corporal Merwin. He lacks social skills.''

Sally leaned in towards Clarice to quietly add, ''And brain cells, evidently.''

''I guess every unit has its resident Jackass.'' Eric said as they walked on, only ending up coming into contact with another Soldier from the unit. Sally hoped this one was less woman-hungry.

''Sergeant Kay!'' Kolchek seemed excited to see this one, Sally noted, watching the small fist bump exchange. ''This is Lieutenant Colonel King. Just taking him down to the briefing room.''

''Yeah, gotta go get prepped.''

''I'll see you in there, Marine.'' Eric was trying far to hard to assimilate into the unit as a new Commanding officer. The Sergeant seemed off though, barely even managing and reply nod before walking off in a hurry.

''So what's his malfunction?''

''Nick ain't been himself lately. We got caught up in a shooting a few weeks back. Civilian ate a bullet. Nick took it hard.''

''Is he combat ready?''

''He's a big boy, sir. He's ready.''

Sally continued to look in the direction that the Sergeant had gone in, it wasn't like other marines she'd known of to linger too long on civilian casualties in a war. Then again, those of whom she'd known like that, didn't much have the heart to begin with.

''Where...Sally!'' She heard her name called, turning to find she'd been standing there for too long in her own thoughts like usual. ''Come back to the planet, I'm gonna need you.'' Sally gave a mock salute as she caught up to Eric, Clarice and Kolchek. Standing awkwardly to the side was the Lance corporal, Joey as known to the unit, Looking like a kicked puppy.  

''I'm telling you, when the queen bitch finds out about this. She's gonna flip her shit. ''Kolchek held up the paper that told everyone there was a new man in charge, glancing over to Sally in confusion as she swiped her hand back and forth over her neck.

Universal signal for shut the fuck up.

''That's my wife you're talking about.''

''I'm sorry, I had no idea.'' Kolchek was surprised, this was the first time he'd even heard of Rachel having a husband. she'd never so much as given any indication she was in a relationship. Sally

''He's real touchy about his wife. Queen bitch though, I like it. That makes him King bitch.'' luckily enough, this was the last room before the briefing room. So soon enough everyone can get to business. Sally wasnt here to listen to pointless conversations.

"Sir, I am so sorry. Rachel never said she was married." Kolchek apologised, trying not to aggravate Eric more. Rachel may not care about her little nickname but Eric sure did.

"We've been working apart this last year." Kolchek nodded with acceptation of the information, not quite knowing what else to say. "So she's the queen bitch now? She's gone up in the world.

"If it helps, we like to think of it as a term of endearment."

Sally walked past Eric, slapping him on the shoulder. "Come on, king bitch, let's set up."

Eric dropped his head, shaking but also chuckling at the same time. He looked up at Kolchek, giving an accusing finger. "I'm blaming you for that one. She's never letting that go." Kolchek didn't doubt it. The relationship between Eric and Sally seemed strong and if he hadn't witnessed his disgust at the lipstick covered kiss, he may have jumped to conclusions when seeing the stain on his hand.

"Right let's get you set up."

"I hope the bandwidth can cope with the data."

"I'll leave the techy stuff to you."

"And I'll leave the heavy lifting to Sally." Kolchek grinned over at Sally, who was standing with her own small laptop. She gave Clarice a wink without stopping the dance across the keyboard. "What is this place anyway? Looks like a ballroom. Sal, give us a show." Sally didn't reply, only giving a wave in recognition, Kolchek thought it rude but Clarice seemed like she knew the meaning of the action.

Sally briefly noted Rachel walking in, choosing to further herself from the room and focus on her screen until Eric was ready. Only when she saw Clarice waving at her did Sally rejoin them, noticing that the rest of the team for the mission had arrived. The TV screen was set up in place to cast Eric's presentation on it, Sally stood nearby but off to the side to view the plan.

"Fuck is that? Modern art or something?"

"This footage is from the highly classified Caelus program."

Merwin wouldn’t have understood, Sally could tell he was more a shoot first and questions never kind of guy. "That supposed to mean something to me?"

"It's a thermal satellite system that I personally pioneered."

"Ohh" Merwin was mocking, nontolerant and ignorant of the work the program required. " Well I'm impressed, please pioneer away."

"You behave like this in all your briefings, Corporal?"

"Boys are just eager to catch a break, sir. No harm meant." Jason Kolchek defended his team mate. Though Sally's obvious sigh of annoyance meant that he not cleared Merwin's bad impression with her.

Sally's worked over the screen as Eric explained that there should be a hidden silo with Saddams chemical weapons inside and yet... Sally couldn't help the foreboding that bubbled in her stomach.

The first lieutenant was cautious in his plans and advised Eric to grab further air support. Merwin disagreed and Sally saw both points, yet ultimately.

"As much as it pains me, Eric, I agree with Merwin. Air support would only garner more attention than we need. Any other situation and I'd firmly suggest taking Kolchek’s side, but not this time."

"Very well, we'll keep this small. If it goes south, I'll pull the plug and we'll bug out."

"With all due respect, sir. I think that's the wrong call." Kolchek was restraining himself, firmly believing that air support was needed. Not yet knowing how exactly Sally's advice was more credible than his own, as a first lieutenant.

"With all due respect, lieutenant Kolchek, its not your desicion to make." Sally looked down at her phone, clicking her tongue and turning to leave the room as Eric started to finish the briefing.

Honestly, between her team and this one, Sally was running tired already. Most of her social interactions were short and to the point if they weren't good friends or a business deal. Even her students tired her out, still, she pushed on and made use of the time.

Hunched over the laptop with the download ready, Clarice asked through the comm where she had gone only to find Sally furiously tapping away at buttons on her phone. Looking up only briefly to stare at the first lieutenant's rear end as he made way to board the helo.

"Nice view, Sal?"

Sally grinned at Clarice, snapping her phone shut and slipping her arm through the other strap of her backpack. "Wonderfully firm view, Clar." The girls shared a laugh, boarding the helo together, sitting across from one another.

Once more, Sally was reminded why her tolerance for the military was low. As Joey and Merwin cracked 'Yo mamma' jokes and other kind of filth on the journey further into Iraqi territory. Turning hypocritical when Kolchek stood slightly to talk to Sergeant Kay. Slightly leaning over and making eye contact with Clarice to give the woman a suggestive eyebrow wiggle towards the backside of the first lieutenant.

Watching Kolchek order his team to be cautious and hold fire when they landed and disembarked was points in Sally's good books. No need to be aggressive on such a small huddle of houses.

The Iraqi's were subdued without casualties and Sally was free to explore as Eric and Rachel left her alone. Merwin and Kay were stationed outside a house when she finally rounded into the more occupied spaces. Rachel was storming into another house with Jason following leisurely around behind her.

"What in God's name are you doing, lady?" Merwin was rightfully confused. Sally was crouched to the floor, shifting her hand throw the loose dust and rocks.

"I'd be wary with the floor. It seems... unstable in a way."

"This of any interest to you?" Kolchek called to Sally, having disappeared for a moment. "Was gonna ask Rachel what it meant but it seems more up your street." Sally stood from her crouched position and turned to Kolchek. Wiping her hands free of the dust from the ground as her eyes lit up at the sight of what he had.

"Oh! Kolchek, it's not even my birthday!" She gently swiped the stone tablet from his hand, marvelling at the masterful carving. Kolchek smiled in a way that said 'you're welcome but I'm so confused' as he followed Rachel's path into the other hut.

Sally deposited the tablet into a nearby truck, making sure it would be safe from enemy combatants that were sure to arrive. Preparing her own weapons, Sally fixed them to the harness around her waist before grabbing the standard automatic that the marines were using.

Not long did she praise herself for the decision as the enemy decided to show up. From somewhere over yonder she heard Joey had been hit, rounding a hut to see Kolchek vaulting over a short wall.

Aiming, her bullet ran true to a Iraqi that tried to pop out early to kill Kolchek. Kay had got to Joey but Sally didn't see the man writhing in pain like he should've been. Eric's voice lifted the radio silence in her comm as he asked for a sitrep moments before the ground beneath her feet rumbled.

"I swear, if one of you said 'can this get any worse' ill shoot you in the face. Eric, that seems like a you thing."

The ground continued to give periodic tremors until finally it gave in. The dirt cracked and fell inwards as easily as thin ice. Sally could could hear yells, call for her, calls for Rachel. Until the floor beneath opened up and swallowed her as well.

Sally, 1902 hours.

Sally groaned as she got up, holding onto her side that was now bleeding. Top ripped on the left at her waist and her legs aching like hell was all she needed right now. Using a quick medical kit she'd packed away, Sally bandaged her side and pulled the top over it, covering as much as she could to make sure none would know of her wound.

There was no need to be fussed over.

Looking around, she assumed the cavern she fell into was not going to be stable enough to climb out of. There didn't seem to be any firm looking walls and she didn't have her shoe grips or axes to climb the angles.

With no choice but to go forward, Sally started walking. Pistols at her hips, gun in hand and her backpack secure, Sally fell into a mode she hadn't gone into for a while. The caverns were silent but eerie, as though something was watching her from the shadows.

The recent cave ins disturbed the structural integrity of the area she'd fallen into and yet she was wary. Were the falling stones and disturbed dust from her...or something else?

She heard yells further into the caves maze of halls and dead ends. Along with a sound unlike what she had heard before. Clicking, somewhat like a dolphin and yet it was also hissing like a snake or cat. Together, the two sounds unnerved Sally as she hurried her steps , the sounds of inhuman noises getting louder, more angered and ravenous.

Gunshots.

There was an enemy but Sally didn't know what kind of enemy would make a sound that came right out of a horror movie. Coming to a room that had half collapsed on itself, Sally rounded the debris only to come face to face with a marine.

"Sally!" Kolchek barely had time to say as she gripped his tac vest and pulled him down behind the debris. Holding him against the large rock and shushing as Sergeant Nick kay appeared beside her and they all fell silent. Hiding.

Sally tensed and held her breath, ignoring her pain as she continued to grip his vest. Kolchek was amazed, more so convinced that she wasn't an Archaeologist by the look on her face. Stern, in control...waiting, she didn't seem scared in the slightest even when the creature came into view. Its black body was terrifying, elongated spikes on its back looked both sharp and dull simultaneously.

It's head was a distorted shape, it seemed to have gills that opened and moved in time with the clicking. Echolocation? Sally didn't know...but she wanted to. Kolchek himself didn't want to look at it, a small glance was enough for him to turn back and focus simply on Sally. She was staring blatantly at the thing, green eyes darting over its different features as he did the same to her.

She had her hair in a pony tail, bits that didn't reach the band were falling free. She was covered in dirt and she had a small cut on her forehead. All things considered he had been right back at camp, she was beautiful, even if she was far too interested in the strange creature trying to kill them.

Then as soon as it had come, the creature was gone...for the moment at least.

"Move." Kolchek said, getting up when Sally moved away. The three ran until they reached another fork, stopping just a second to decide the path when Kolchek was engaged.

The giant black blur swiped at him and tried to bite him. Sally and Nick raised their guns as Kolchek stabbed it, the triple assault overwhelmed it enough for it to flee, but hardly any damage was done to it.

"Fuck I hate this place." Sally pulled Kolchek up from the ground, keeping her eyes on where the creature had vanished into the darkness. Sally counted herself lucky that running was nearly a daily occurrence for her, otherwise she'd have run out of breath by now.

The cavern walls blended together, looking the same with each turn and yet, Sally thought they were going deeper into the creatures territory. She skidded to a stop as Nick and Kolchek turned to cover where they had just been.

"The hell's going on?!"

Sally rolled her eyes at Nick, choosing to say silent for the stupid question. "I don't know man. It was not supposed to play out like this."

"Any call signs, this is King! Contact! Contact! Taking fire! Does anyone copy, over."

"That's Rachel!" Sally's eyes narrowed at the emotion in Nicks voice after hearing the voice over the comm.

"King, this is mailman two-one actual. Say again, Over."  Kolchek repeated the words when he got no answer. Angrily ordering for the two to move as they had occupied the one spot too long, they didn't need monsters falling upon them because they kept stopping.

After a while of running, the sounds of inhuman clicking grew quiet. Sally slowed to a jog and lowered her gun, raising a hand to her lips when Nick opened his mouth to ask why she was slowing down.

The quiet noises drew to a close, silence fell over the space and the three of simply existed for a calm moment. Nick let out a breath, shoulders clearing of tension and his eyes filling with guilt.

"I killed him, man. I fucking killed, Merwin!" Sally's eyebrows raised at the information. She had heard yelling, perhaps that was Merwin before he'd gone.

"It was an accident!"

Nick didn't listen to Kolchek’s defence, continuing with his pity party of one. "Just like the woman at the checkpoint."

"Don't make this shit weirder than it is. Clear your fucking mind!"

Sally clapped the boys on their shoulders, giving a firm nod to Nick in agreement. "Kolchek's right. Shitty that Merwin's gone but there's point in dwelling on it or you'll end up just as dead. We should regroup with Eric and Rachel."

‘‘Right,’‘ Nick nodded, trying to calm himself but to little avail, ’‘You’re right.’’

‘’I’m hardly ever wrong.’’ Easing the tension more was easier with that. Nick managed a quiet laugh but none of them dared to speak to loudly after they just lost the monsters. 

Hopefully, Eric and Rachel weren’t too far ahead.

so like. the basics of ghosts yes. there's that whole theory about people becoming ghosts because of "unfinished business" etc etc yes. and with eric being a ghost, what's his unfinished business?? he was supposed to be a parent right. and then that got snatched away from him. and then jason came along right. yes. with me so far. okay. SO. whats a [GOOD] parent's job?? look after their child, make sure theyre happy. all the good stuff.

and jason, as he existed from a child up until this point, was very much NOT happy. but now ruthie and danny are gone, and he has friends + a boyfriend who love him SO so much, and a dad who would literally give him the world given the opportunity. so eric is finally starting to achieve his 'purpose' right.

but at Some Point in the story, jason and marcus have a HUGE argument [details to be Confirmed. but hogirhgjhfgh it hurts!! IT HURTS!!!] and they kind of break up but not really, don't talk to each other for WEEKS. jason is in the trenches. on his own again. everyone turned against him [in his eyes] AGAIN. and now he's right back at square one. alone. he doesnt want to bring this up with eric. but eric Knows. he is a father after all he KNOWS.

and yeah it's still a very rough idea so i dont have All the details, but. something to do with marcus, morgan, + lou going to sort danny and ruthie out themselves, because they think jason's left Them, and abandoned the whole revenge idea. so theyre dealing with it alone now. none of them being strong enough to actually physically/mentally deal with the two of them, so things go downhill for them Very Very Fast.

while that's happening, jason finally decides to be Brave and confide in eric. BUT!!! THE THING IS!!! eric??? he's not home. he's not answering his phone. he's gone. gone where, you ask?? good question!! he's GONE. gone. like. vanished. into the ether. FULLY dead this time. forever.

BUT WHY IS HE DEAD YOU MAY ASK!

WELL!!!!!!!!!!

jason Was happy, and eric knew that bc they spoke almost every day. and then suddenly, all contact had dropped. and he knew Something was up, that something had gone on between him and marcus. he knew. again bc Fatherly Instinct. and so, his genius idea was to make sure the two of them were together again, for good this time. no more breaking up, no more heartbreak etc etc. they Needed each other, they were meant for each other and the sooner both of them admitted that the better. so.

so what he does is. WHAT he does. right. gets his and ruthie's old wedding rings, puts them on the table, with a little note. and the fancy ring he needed in order to like, yknow, Keep Him Alive. thats there too. the note simply reads "you know what you have to do." the last thing eric ever said to him, the last message jason will ever get from him. RIGHT.

SO. STUFF AND THINGS HAPPEN. NEED TO SORT ALL THAT OUT IN REGARD TO WHAT EXACTLY IS HAPPENING BETWEEN THE GANG + RUTHIE

but what i do have is that marcus gets really badly injured, like critical. fatal. every bad word here. he is GOING to die and no one can help him. lou and morgan are, at this point, too far away, too weak etc to be able to get to him. but you know who CAN get to him?? our little hero jason.

so he's there. distraught of course, they havent spoken in weeks and now his kind-of-still-but-not-really boyfriend is DYING. in front of him. did eric know?? is that why he gave jason the ring in the first place?? haha (:

anyway! so. jason finds him, a little conversation, bla bla bla. he gives marcus the fancy ring - and remember. well no one remembers the lore post but I DO. so. fancy ring goes on the ring finger yes. important note. so jason puts the ring on his finger, and marcus is like "haha are we getting married or something" and jason is like. funny you should say that actually. because of. b. because. the wedding rings. yes. so. tell me | eric x reader | an unintentional continuation to this drabble | a/n: i tried to make it so that this could be read as a stand alone but i’m not too sure if i was successful in that | requests closed

1. letters

“so,” eric says, setting down two drinks and a plate of snacks next to the dirt-covered shoebox that was buried somewhere in a park just this morning, “where do we start?”

the first thing you pull out from the time capsule are two envelopes. eric immediately knows what it is. 

you shake your head. “not with these.” the letters were written to each other when you made the time capsule in the summer before your freshman year of college. “let’s look at these last.”

eric is more than happy to oblige. 

2. totally awesome no skip summer mix 2011

“oh my god,” you mutter, pulling out the next item in the box. 

“what is it?”

you hold up the old, dusty cd for him to see. “remember this?”

he does. 

he remembers sitting in front of your family’s old computer and carefully selecting which pop songs from that summer to add to the cd. he remembers feeling entirely like a criminal while you found the best website to download the songs and then also how quickly the lawless feeling escaped from him after the act was done. he remembers burning the cd that afternoon. he remembers the entire summer he spent listening to the cd with you. 

“no one even uses cds anymore.” you say with a bit of a laugh. “should we listen to it?” 

eric nods, and the two of you spend the next 20 minutes looking for a way to play it. 

10. baseball jersey

eric pulls out the jersey five songs into the cd mix. “gosh, this takes me back.” the jersey was from when he was young an old jersey you and him decorated together when he switched to a new team. 

you make a face of disgust, pointing to a questionable drawing done around the neckline of the jersey. “who did that?”

“you, probably.”

“no way.”

“look. you even signed it.”

you squint your eyes at the drawing for a long moment. “damn.”

eric just laughs

15. picture from the beach trip

eric is the one who fishes the picture out. the picture which made you dig up the box to begin with. you see it between his hand, before he can tell you he found it. neither of you say anything. you both just stare at the picture, silently. your smiles are big and bright, with the sun casting down over your faces and ocean in the background. you look happy in it. eric does too. he turns away from the picture and stares at you, wondering where did it all go wrong?

23. big fish program

“look at this.” you say pulling out the crumpled program from your high school’s production of big fish. “i forgot i was even in the show.”

“you know how daffodils are a big part of the show?” eric says and you nod, flipping through the program. “i remember spending so long at the show trying to find daffodils for you.”

“but you gave me roses that night.” you say, tossing the program aside.

“yeah. i couldn’t find any.”

“well,” you murmur with a smile falling off your lips, “at least you tried.”

27. birthday card 

“what’s this?” eric mutters pulling out a card that looks new. or at least new in comparison to everything else in the box. 

“what did you-” you freeze when you see the card eric’s holding up. “not that.” you blurt reaching over to grab it from him. eric pulls it out of your reach. you reach for it again, and eric evades you grabbing it as well. it goes on like that for a minute before you finally give up. 

“what is it?” eric asks again, laughing at how hard you’re trying to get it away from him. 

you don’t mirror the laugh. instead you sigh, eyes turning dark. “a year ago, i dug up the time capsule and added that.”

“a year ago.” eric echoes, brows knitting together. “but by then we were...”

“we were broken up.” you finish, shamefully almost. “i wrote it on your birthday. and i don’t even know why i bothered adding it to the box, but i was just so upset at the time. i hadn’t seen you in forever, and i was just so angry at you. at me. at us.”

“i take it it’s not a nice birthday card then.”

“please don’t read it.” you reach for the card again. and this time eric doesn’t stop you from grabbing it. “i don’t mean any of that stuff anymore.”

“but you did?”

“i don’t... i was upset.”

“you were right to end things between us.” eric says then. “it was the best thing for us.”

you’re quiet. then after a long moment, you say, “it was the best thing for us then.”

“what do you mean?”

“i mean,” you frown, folding and unfolding a corner of the card, “don’t you think there’s a way we could make it work again?”

32. letters

 the box is empty now. the only thing left to look at is the letters from the beginning. “here.” you say quietly, handing the one you wrote to him. he hands you his. 

dear eric, i know the letters were my idea but this feels so lame LOL. good luck in college, but i wish we were going to the same one :( thanks for all the laughs and good times. i’m happiest with you.   - love, your bestie (sorry this is so short. i have no idea what to say. i’ve been sitting here and pretending to write since you havent stopped yet) (OMG eric stop writing!!)  (you just pulled out a second sheet of paper. rip. you’re gonna be so disappointed when you read this)

eric finishes the letter, remembering how much thought and care he put into writing his, and how long it ended up being. and that whole time, this was all you had written, the realization only makes him laugh. 

he looks up at you still reading his two page letter. he watches as your eyes skim the page. as you get teary eyed reading it. as you finish, folding the letter back up and saying, “eric i--”

“let’s do it.” 

“what?”

“let’s try again.”

another twlg ask from @thetypingpup!!! i had to put your ask in a separate post again bc i didn't want to clog up anyones dash!! ellie.. your essays abt twlg forever make me laugh. i have no fucking comment to this but please i need to show everyone LMAO

Me again with another long ass statement bc I can't shut the fuck up hey 😅😅. I've been doing more thinking (bc ofc I have) and I got fixated on the thought of mc and jaemin being the same, like both being troubled and flawed but having relatively good intentions at the end of the day, and both being shit at communication. I'd agree with that, if there were and equal amount of instances where their shitty communication or shitty actions to damage. So far, based on what we've seen in the text, it has not been equal. It's true that they're in similar boats, but they're definitely not on the same level of flawed.

So far we've seen mc exhibit a lot of care for jaemin (easily read as too much care given their agreed upon arrangement), care that we just haven't seen jaemin exhibit to the same degree. In fact, once we got into Jaemin's head, it recontextualized a lot of the sweet moments between the two (at least sweet from mc's pov) and soured them. One example being that first fingering scene. Mc has already perceived something akin to adoration in jaemin's eyes and already started feeling things. That was her interpretation. Meanwhile with Jaemin his attitude was that mc was just someone willing to let him play with her pussy and had a mouth he could imagine wrapped around his dick. Or another example being when mc got Jaemin the polaroid camera. We have yet to see a "polaroid scene" where Jaemin does something that nice for mc. We've also seen jaemin's actions negatively impact mc and really hurt her, and that just hasn't happened the other way around to the same extent (yet bc idk what's planned for the future), so it seems super one-sided. It's been disproportionate from jump, which makes for nuanced and interesting stories absolutely, but it's still disproportionate nonetheless. Because of this many of mc's shortcomings have been more implict and rely on conjecture in a way that Jaemin's don't, while Jaemin's have been very explicit thus far in both POVs.

But idk if mc's biggest problems are that she cares too much and doesn't speak up enough, then that's not nearly on the same level as Jaemin. With the whole exclusive proposal, that man wanted to completely cross one of mc's main boundaries and misrepresented the reason why to get what he wants. Withholding the whole Mia reason is lowkey giving fraud I cannot lie, bc it was such a material reason as to why he wanted to be exclusive (and from his inner monolouge, it was the main reason). The reason he said out loud, the thing that he actually fixed his mouth to say to mc, equates to him wanting access to mc's body whenever he wants. How nice 😬. And then later when mc apparently "agreed" to become exclusive 1) she never explicitly said that, and 2) she had TAKEN ERIC'S PILL (I'm screaming about this bc i havent seen people point that out on here yet), and you can see she was influenced by it later with the three way kiss. You can't just change the terms of an agreement like that if you're not of sound sober mind, nor without explicit confirmation that's at the very least verbal. And in that public kiss after the whole Eric display, exclusive wasn't even on mc's mind in her pov when she kissed him. But who was thinking about or considering that? Not Jaemin's selfish ass that's for sure. He got what he wanted, and then later he had to walk around telling himself that was some sort of mutual agreement to make himself feel better. Jaemin sir, if you have to convince yourself like that, then your ass knows that was not mutual you're fucking up. Actually i checked all the parts again and mc never actually said they were exclusive. Other people say it, and she considers it,, but she never outright said it. Oh it just keeps getting worse.

And then I just looked again and remembered this too, but the main reason Jaemin made a show of kissing mc at the party, and even went in the first place as Miwoo pointed out (and convinced mc to go bc she didn't want to at first), was to rub their arrangement in Eric's face. In his own words it was all for show, all before she agreed to have public displays like that mind you, so he still crossed the boundary bc she didn't agree to that shit yet. And all of those actions are of course very considerate of him, very not shitty person thing to do, much respectful of the woman he allegedly cares about😬. Has mc done anything like any of that to Jaemin? Or maybe that's coming in part 6.2? And even then I don't think whatever is coming can outweigh what jaemin has already done. So far mc lied to her own detriment (the whole eunbin thing at the party) while jaemin lied to get what he wants.

Ok Cas I swear I won't keep spamming your inbox lol. I wanna feel for his pain, I do, and I wanna believe that he's not a terrible person, but his thoughts and actions thus far prevent that. Everytime I look it just gets worse and worse for this man, and while I can't see any deliberate manipulation or real malice, he is EXCEEDINGLY selfish and VERY much a dumbass and it's manifesting in some truly terrible ways. The sweetness turned sour is turning to bitterness and I'm just sad for mc more and more. I'm excited to see what's to come ofc. I'd love to see if the playing field evens itself out in later parts. But yea I WILL be suing this man I want my punitive damages and pain and suffering compensation. When I catch him in these streets it's on sight 😤.

Main phantoms (the ones you’ll see referenced most often):

Leroux!Erik or Lerik: original 1909 novel by Gaston Leroux. He’s the classic, creepy and misunderstood, he’s a commentary on society’s treatment of anyone outside of the norm. One of the most fucked up phantoms tbh. Refers to himself in the third person. But rly he’s just a funny little man :D

Lon Chaney Erik or Lerik: 1925 silent film. A really faithful adaptation except for the overly dramatic hollywood ending. Mostly the same as the book.

Merik or Musical!Erik: ALW musical phantom, usually based on Ramin karimloo s performance in the 25th anniversary recordings but other popular actors include Hugh Panaro, Micheal Crawford and more. A much more romantic and seductive phantom than the adaptations that came before.

Gerik: 2004 film adaptation of ALW s musical starring Gerard Butler. He’s buff, not that ugly, and a bit of a drama queen.

Cherik or Dance!Erik: 1990 miniseries starring charles dance, based on a musical by yeston and kopit (which I’m not putting as a separate Erik since they’re so similar). Kerik or Kay!Erik: Novel by Susan Kay. It’s basically a published fanfic of a biography of the phantom s life. This Erik is very fandom based, he’s hot, troubled and ✨the main character✨ tm. This novel is very often used when referencing erik’s backstory in the phandom, also the reason “the persian” is often called Nadir Khan.

Winslow or Bird!Erik: 1974 film phantom of paradise. It’s a very funky musical comedy/horror adaptation set in a nightclub. The phantom wears a weird bird helmet/mask.

MazM Erik: 2018 MazM mobile game. He has long flowy hair, is really fucking creepy and insane (but still a sweety in my heart)

Jerik or Rat!Erik: 1998 film Il fantasma dell’opera. Ah the infamous rat phantom. Haven’t seen this version but all I know is Erik has a weird relationship with rats, he s not disfigured and is generally considered the weirdest one of the bunch.

Hana or Takarazuka!Erik or Erika: female version of the phantom from the Japanese production of the yeston and kopit musical by the all female theatre troupe takarazuka. Quite similar to Cherik, she’s a sweety, but also hilarious and scary and I love her.

Destler or Englund!Phantom: 1989 horror movie. He’s a classic slasher, played by non-other than Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger). The adaptation that introduced the last name Destler, which is generally accepted in the fandom as Erik’s last name.

this is jaskier x geralt by the way. i couldn't sleep so i came up with these instead.

Skating AU

Jaskier is a figure skater and Geralt is a hockey player. Geralt plays for “the Witchers”. The two groups fight for ice time a lot. 

High School Teachers AU

Jaskier teacher choir or art. Geralt teaches History or Chemistry. All their students call them mom and dad. Ciri is their favorite. She is too smart for her classes so she hangs out with them after school and during lunch. They are oblivious and ciri is like “omg just kiss already!”

Pride and Prejudice AU

Its just pride and prejudice, but Jaskier is Lizzie and Geralt is Darcy. Geralt is emotionally constipated and cant handle his feelings so hes a dick instead. Basically just follows the plot of the book/movie and geralt proposes and gets turned down until he fixes himself. Georgiana is ciri she helps geralt win back jaskier.

Princess Bride AU

Jaskier is Buttercup and Geralt is wesley. Follows the movie kinda. Geralt is “killed” by the witcher then comes back pretending to be that to save jaskier from marriage to a shitty prince (valdo marx???).

The Little Mermaid AU

Jaskier is Ariel and Geralt is Eric. Jaskier is a mermaid who loves to watch people but some drowners (or ther water monster idk) is in the area he likes to watch and geralt gets knocked out saving jaskier who in turn saves him. He makes a deal to give up his voice to have legs so he can travel with geralt. Yennefer is Ursula i guess,,, idk.

Aladdin AU

Jaskier is Jasmine and Geralt is Aladdin. Jaskier hates being stuck in the palace and having to act like a royal. He sneaks out and geralt helps him escape some guard so he can play his lute in a market or something. Geralt is in love but doesnt think a prince would fall for him so he uses a potion or magic or something (yennefer helps??) to change his hair color and disguise himself as a prince. Takes jaskier for a ride on roach idk.

Falsettos AU

This is based off of falsettos the musical. Geralt and Yen divorce and geralt leaves to live with jaskier, but hes still trying to have a relationship with ciri and yen. I think triss would be marvin cause gay is always better. This doesnt have to be an exact copy of the story, but just an inspiration.

Theater AU

This would just be a one shot lol. i just think it would be funny. Jaskier is the lead actor and geralt is on crew. thats it lol.

Coffee Shop AU

Jaskier works as a barista at a little cafe and falls for the guy (geralt) who always come in and sits in the corner reading and only orders a plain black coffee. Jaskier is a gay disaster and his coworkers know it.

Disney World AU

Geralt brings ciri to disney world for a weekend and Jaskier is playing her favorite prince (idk which one just pick) and they go and visit him everyday they go.

Drag Queen AU

Jaskier is a drag queen at a club (goes by dandelion or buttercup) and geralt is the bouncer/security. Someone gives jaskier a hard time outside f the club after closing and geralt saves him and walks him home.

Public Transport Musician AU

Geralt takes the subway everyday and jaskier is always playing in the station. One time he gets on the train with geralt and they talk. Jaskier shares that on weekends he plays at a club and geralt goes and sees him.

Self Defense Lessons AU

Jaskier moves to a big city or something and wants to take self defense lessons and geralt is the instructor. Jaskier can not handle geralt pinning him down and straddling him.

Neighbors AU

Jaskier and Geralt live next to eachother in an apartment building. Jaskier is always knocking and asking for extra flower or help fixing something. At first geralt hates it but it becomes endearing and then one day geralt asks jaskier for help with something and thats when they get together. Yen and Triss live across the hallway and laugh as it goes down.

Mandalorian/Star Wars AU

Geralt is apart of a bounty hunter clan (the mandalorians/witchers) and is supposed to find a child and deliver it to some bad people (its ciri/baby yoda) but doesnt and adopts her. Jaskier come in at some point idk how tho.

Gym Training AU

Trans!Jaskier wants to get buff so he passes better and gets trained by geralt. thats it.

Role Reversal AU

Jaskier is a witcher (he still has a smaller frame. I think hes more of an assassin and more stealth based.) and Geralt is a moody musician (i dont think he sings) Somehow geralt gets tied up with one of jaskiers hits and that how they end up travelling together. Jaskier is jealous that geralt is still huge and jacked despite being a musician.

Gender Bend AU

I just want a big muscly lesbian geralt. Jaskier is a cottage core lesbian. otherwise nothing changes.

You’ve Got Mail AU

Jaskier owns a smaller bookstore thats going to be swallowed up by witcher co. books. Just follows the movie plot. I read a really good youve got mail au fic a long time ago and i want more.

Fake Relationship AU

This is honestly my favorite au and ive yet to see it in the witcher fics. Jaskier lied to his family that hes in a relationship so that theyd stop trying to set him up, but they come to visit so he has to get Geralt to pretend to be his boyfriend. or Jaskier gets a chance to go to a resort or on a cruise and play for the guests but its a married couples only thing so he brings geralt along and they have to pretend to be a happy married couple. Triss and Yen are there and onto them the whole time.

Soulmate AU

i havent seen any witcher fics with a classic soulmate au. there is plenty to pick from. One could be matching birthmarks and jaskier ( or geralt) figures out that the other has the matching birthmark but is scared to tell cause “witchers cant feel”

Mechanic AU

Jaskier keeps “accidentally” breaking things so the hot mechanic will come fix it.

Circus AU

geralt is a strong man or “beast” tamer and jaskier is some artsy shit idk. Concept: jaskier is a trapeze artist and he sings while he does it so hes the “song bird”. Yen can be a fortune teller or some shit.

what should i read 4 arthurian legend idk where to start

ok hold on lemme find one of my other answers to this ask for u :-) im too tired to write out the whole thing rn

i think the best two starting options involve the same strategy of “pick a knight you like the most and consume all the content you can find on them until you get bored/think of another knight and repeat” and its as simple as “do you want to start with sir gawain or do you not know who you want to start with.”

sir gawain i think is the best starting knight if you wanna go the route of reading as much as u can about one and moving on, since theres a LOT of varied content and hes just in a lot. hes important! anyways the first recommendation i have to start with is Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. its a wonderful piece of poetry about a homoerotic beheading game, getting a movie this summer! its fucking gorgeous and a really good introduction if youve never read this old of texts before. i have a few different links so you can take your pick of what you prefer :-)

heres it in the original middle english, its beautiful and if you get the beat down sounds fucking gorgeous but i understand how hard it is to get through if youve never read through it before.

lou recomends Raffels translation above all others which i kinda have to agree with. heres part one and heres part two of that.

and the other link i have directly on hand atm is tolkiens translation which ive skimmed before and it seems really solid.

if you dont want to start with a short and tender christmas party, consider another text most arthuriana fans will consider a must read. its a bit more intimidating than sgatgks poetry but like. hey. its Sir Malory’s Le Morte D’arthur.

this is more on the level of most of the story things youll find for arthuriana and a good starting point to get an overview of a lot of major plot points and characters that show up time and time again in the legends, all of the major knights are covered through malory’s own spin on them and he tries to cover a lot of older tales in his weird fanfiction.

the text can be weird ESPECIALLY if you arent used to middle english since he …. used some weird as fuck words? even for the time. but thats malory.

I highly recommend, if you can get a copy, Kieth Baines modern retelling of Le Morte, it rewords things to make more sense to those used to a more modern prose and while it takes out some of the nuance of some scenes, its way easier to pick up and read. were working on a full scan of it atm actually but the book of arthur is up in our shared drive :-) ill shove a link down here for u

heres the first bit of baines rendition. honestly if u can find a copy for cheap grab it is a fun time

heres the pdf i use for the full text, warning for how weird its structured? its long paragraphs with no quotes around text but if you have no problems with that go for it. heres book one and heres book two.

from there, theres a ton of different options you can follow, but again i think the least overwhelming way to go about it is pick a knight you like and read whatever seems fun that has them in it !

best choices include gawain again, the marriage of sir gawain and dame ragnelle is fun, l’atre perilleux is so fucking wild and just a fun time, the turke and sir gawain has gawain playing tennis? like what more do you need

lancelot has a decent collection of old stories including the entire vulgate cycle (my favorite piece of arthurian lit, im working on scanning the entire english translation ;-)), lancelot and the hart with the white foot, though i havent been able to find a FULL translation, is wonderful and with that the lancelot collection of old stories is a lot of fun the dutch loved him, if you have like 10 bucks to spare, Lancelot and the lord of the distant isles is on amazon for cheap and retells the book of galehaut section of the vulgate and its . so good. please care about galehaut.

tristan as wild as he is is also a really good choice for how popular the Tristan and Isolde legend was in europe. you can find a ton of versions of it, though i prefer the german one by gottfried von strassburg, another amazing one is the povest o’tryschane which is a slavic take on the legend that weirdly throws sections of the vulgate and some italian romances in? i adore it either way.

uhmmm some more off the cuff recommendations include Troyes four romances and also Perceval. as much as i bully troyes knight of the cart, knight of the lion, and knight of the grail are some of my favorite words. skip cliges if youre doing that though it sucks so bad. troyes hated his version of tristan and isolde so much he wrote cliges. that alone should keep you from it. eric and enide is ok but eric sucks SO HARD. i hate that bitch.

more modern but tennysons Idylls of the king? fucking stellar. i recently got a copy and its really gorgeous poetry. kinda like le morte in having a good overview of key events in the texts and some notable characters so this works as a good jumping off point

and finally one i cant really speak on much due to my preference of the romances, but i have many good friends who say the welsh sources are REALLY REALLY good and worth checking out :-) the mabinogion mainly, but a lot of the scattered poetry is really fun!
