Qiubing Xianxia AU

I’ve been rewatching love you seven times because of Ding Yuxi, and it gave me this xianxia AU idea for qiubing.

The drama version of Qiu Qingzhi had been nerfed a lot in comparison to the manhua and donghua, cause he’s supposed to be very very strong to the point he can decimate a whole army all by himself, so, Qiu Qingzhi is definitely the strongest God of War from the Heavenly realm.

As for Li Bing, I really like the demon realm storyline in love you seven times, so, Li Bing is a cat demon who managed to become the new Demon King after defeating the previous King.

After the last great war, the Heavenly and Demon realm have been at peace for thousands of years. They don’t usually interact with each other, and both have currently been fighting a common enemy from the Devil realm.

One day, Qiu Qingzhi got hurt after being ambushed by some assassins from the Devil realm and he accidentally fell to the Demon realm. Li Bing found him, then help to nurse him back to health. This is how they got to know each other.

After getting nursed back to health, Li Bing found out that Qiu Qingzhi is very strong, and for the first time in his life has met someone that can defeat him and also manhandle him with ease. Which, he’s really, really into, so… yeah.

As for Qiu Qingzhi, he really feel thankful, and swore to always protect Li Bing in return, but also, this cat demon is really really pretty, and his cat form is very cute, and also, the sound he made when being manhandled is very… ahem… interesting.

Qiu Qingzhi did eventually return to the Heavenly realm, cause he’s the God of War, and he’s got tons of work to do. But he will sneak out to go to the Demon realm from time to time to hang out with Li Bing, and they also often help each other in dealing with troubles caused by the Devil realm.

One day Qiu Qingzhi has to go and do his mortal trial. Li Bing sneaked in to find him and give him a protective amulet, but accidentally fell in to the pool of rebirth with him. And so they are both being reborn as humans and has to do a mortal trial together.

So, it’s basically a xianxia AU where white cat legend drama universe is their mortal trial lol.

Yeah, well, this idea just somehow got into my head and I just had to get it out somehow.

No hate, I do appreciate them since I learn new things, but I'm also baffled by people who try to fit SVSSS as.... historically accurate.

I'm.... not even sure how that works. Since xianxia itself is fantasy - wuxia would make sense of course.

For my part I just slap on that it's in a distant past, where the earth is mostly pangea shaped, with one culture from real world cropping up here and another here, and they just..... mix. Interact.

Like, for the sake of the genre itself I'd say it's mostly chinese, mostly chinese writing system, which is easy enough since as it so happens, it's the root of a number of other writing systems. Literally just think ATLA, the way they mixed real life culture with fantasy and not let that hold them back.

Oh hey convenient space to put my 'headcanon races if they were transmigrated in our modern era'. SJ and SQH I'd put as chinese, YQY and QQQ korean, LQG japanese, and MQF vietnamese, WQW thai, mostly because I have this AU I play with where they are reincarnated in modern world but have faint recollection of their old lives as CQMS Peak Lords (this would be after the happenings in my universe AU where SJ, rather than dying of heartbreak after seeing Xuan Su sword shards escapes instead this and yes, spoiler alert they stil die bcs I'm all for the whole 'if I can't ascend with you all then I guess let's just all die'), and I keep playing with this scene of SJ living in a compound with YQY (imagine SJ waking up going 'Qi-ge, Qi-ge, gege I want breakfast' and YQY humming indulgently while cooking on the stove💗💗💗💗💘💘💘 (I mean not really relevant AS MUCH but just note I imagine them as brothers brothers here) and they have it for rent at first but when they meet the other PL and realize the truth of their memories, they have it reserved only for their martial siblings. And live together like a group of really chill friends that are low key keeping a pulse on the underground cultivation world that is concealed from the public

Yes, SJ does annoy LQG for rent even if it's not yet time to pay. He just likes being annoying okay, let him be annoying.

We don't even know if Arno lived to his seventies, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he was very much alive (and a senior citizen) by the time Jacob was born. Maybe if he was lucky, he could have even been alive during the events of Syndicate, but we don't all get to live to a hundred, especially back then.

So the possibilities are ENDLESS.

Time travel!AU where Jacob goes back in time, falls in love with Arno, then comes back and realizes his love is the crabby old man upstairs.

Time travel!AU where ARNO goes forward in time, falls in love with forty-year-old Jacob with an awkward age gap that they work out (because Arno's in his twenties still) and goes back to his timeline, always yearning for his love, only to hit his seventies and find his boyfriend literally being born in a Crawley hospital.

Or instead of being awks, we do some Bu Bu Jing Xin shit where Jacob blacks out after killing Roth, goes back in time while unconscious, and lives out the events of the French Revolution with Arno. They have an uneasy relationship but Jacob learns what healthy love looks like, and he and Arno die together holding hands (or we go full Bu Bu Jing Xin and he dies thinking Arno sent him away, who knows). He wakes back up in his current timeline with Evie next to him, thinking it's all a dream...until he enters a museum where he sees himself and Arno in paintings from the French Revolution and realizes that he actually inserted himself into that time period and changed it, and that Arno actually is long dead.

Immortal!AU where Arno gains immortality after Elise dies (I desperately wanna SOMEHOW go the xianxia Chinese immortality route instead of western vampirism, but to each his own), and spends several decades witnessing empires rise and fall, unsure if he'll ever love again...until Jacob. But make it mildly slapstick, and he initially mistakes his own feelings as liking Evie instead, because something something she's so focused, just like Elise.

ENDLESS, I tell you.

Ok, looking at the first lines I really do have a habit of starting with a snippet of dialogue! I never would have noticed that. I wonder whether it's something I've started doing recently, or whether it's like that all the way down (since a load of these fics were written very close together)...

Heroic Cultivation AU: So I was reading through this and saw your mentioning about being unsure if AfO would go through with any of the cultivation stuff because he's lazy as heck. I also saw you mention that you weren't too familiar with xianxia stuff. To be clear, the first point is true and the second is fine, but I know a little bit and wanted to add in because I think AfO going demonic cultivator could in fact work. If you already know this, then sorry for bothering you with the long message.

So to start, in most xianxia there's standard cultivation as theory, which is the whole philosophy-and-slow-meditation-self-reflection-and-growth path to immortality. This tends to exist as the background foundation of How Cultivation Is Supposed To Work. Then there's cultivation as practiced, which is borne of cultivators (and xianxia authors) looking at that theory and going "man, that's gonna take so long to get me immortality and ultimate power, and it's gonna be so boring just sitting around meditating to get there instead of doing anything... what if instead I took some really good drugs to get high as a kite, dosed myself with steroids on top of that, and did some nice feng shui in order to cut that down? Couple decades, maybe a few centuries tops, instead of taking thousands of years or something. Yeah, that sounds good." This both feels more proactive, even if it's against the strict spirit of things, and it lets the xianxia author have the characters actively doing stuff with arrogant characters competing for the best resources to ascend or what-have-you to provide conflict. It also dodges out having prolonged sessions of meditating in a cave for power being something other than a background aspect - there will be characters doing it, but unless they're strong enough to astral project or something then odds are you won't have those characters really involved in the plot actively because they're spending 99% of their time, well, in a cave. So already we're more in AfO's lane of finding shortcuts to save time and effort on the road to power.

Then there's demonic cultivation. Now, exactly what demonic cultivation actually means isn't the most well-defined beyond the association with demons and badness, I don't think all xianxia stories even have it as a distinct thing, but if present it'll usually be considered a cheat and power shortcut even compared to normal-cultivation-as-practiced. Practitioners of demonic cultivation will be making deals with demons if demons actually exist and are sentient and communicative in the setting, stealing artifacts of malevolent and cursed power and the REALLY wild drugs, stealing power from others by draining their life force and using their bodies as grisly ritual components, reanimate corpses, backstabbing allies, re-absorbing the passive malevolence and resentment generated by their evil deeds in a downward spiral of cruelty and power, and generally just doing Very Bad Things to get power even faster. If the story's protagonist is a normal cultivator of some stripe then the demonic cultivator is a convenient enemy, whose path to power provides easy moral superiority and maybe a message about seeking strength "The Right Way". If the protagonist is a demonic cultivator then they probably won't engage in the more morally repugnant possibilities (except maybe against "deserving targets," maybe - the morality can sometimes get kind of protagonist-centric, who'd have thunk it), they'll probably be motivated by revenge against a cultivator who is still considered "righteous" despite however the protagonist feels wronged, and there may be some flavoring of calling out how in practice normal cultivators still commit violence against others to hurry toward power and the demonic cultivator is only a problem for using unapproved methods. (How well that lands does require interrogating what the story's version of demonic cultivation actually is, of course. Just redirecting existing bad juju energy to achieve good deeds? There may be a point there. Running the Orphan Juicero 5000 to get the power to conquer an empire? Hold on a minute, there.)

The thing is, especially noticeable as this was being typed out, a lot of those things are pretty similar to stuff AfO is already doing. Reanimating corpses and creating minions from what's left from others? Hello Nomu. Reveling in the cruelty of his actions? You bet. Stealing power from others to get stronger, faster? Heck, that's his whole Quirk right there. All that needs to change is for him to learn enough about cultivation to do that in the direction of cultivation, instead of just Quirks and mundane society. I'm imagining a realization something like this:

AfO: "So I could try engaging in slow and inactive self-reflection to access that brat's power. Cringe."

AfO: "Or I could rearrange the furniture in here and take some good weed to hurry that along. Still too slow."

AfO: "Or I could go all in on this Demon King thing, drink the Airport Cultivator Jungle Juice, get gruesome with it, and really start cooking with gas."

AfO: "Yes, that's what I'll do. Garaki, make preparations for my new path to ascension."

Garaki, who's been spending the last three days frantically going through whatever sources on cultivation and cultivation manuals he can patch together without rest because he majored in Mad Science not Cultivation and all this is horribly documented nowadays, and AfO certainly isn't going to do the esoteric research himself: "Of course, sir."

My knowledge of Cultivation is in a weird spot because I knew about the Orphan Juicer 5000 in theory but I don't know how authors have put it into practice and how many centuries it shaves off of a Cultivator's training program, so all of this is quite fascinating

I'm a queer & chronically ill full-time writer, part-time artist. Originally a city kid from central/northern China, currently living in the USA. Feel free to send me a message if you want to say hi! I'm fairly shy but I do my best to respond.

This blog is mostly Genshin or Scum Villain right now, but I'll occasionally post about other fandoms too! The main things I enjoy are MXTX's other books, Tai Sui, Tolkien's Legendarium, Star Wars (especially TOR), and the Elder Scrolls.

I'm also writing an original xianxia/danmei novel, 《Ghosts of the Heart》 so please check out my patreon to read that, the first few chapters will be free for anyone to read & begin releasing in Feb 2024.

I'm really interested in language learning/linguistics study, Chinese culture, and hanfu construction & style, as well as a long-standing interest in pretty and cool rocks.

Please don't treat me as a consummate cultural authority! I love sharing things about my culture, but I have been isolated from it for many years, so I am still learning/relearning quite a bit and may make a mistake from time to time. MORE ABOUT ME AS AN AUTHOR

My writing pace fluctuates. I'm chronically ill and currently having to work retail on and off until my writing career builds up enough support to be my primary source of income. Working retail massively drains my energy, so until I make enough to support myself on patreon, speed of chapter releases won't be especially fast. I do try to post something, whether original or fanfiction early-access, on patreon at least once a week. If you like my writing and can afford to become a patron, please consider it. Every new patron helps me get closer to being able to write more & higher-quality work!

I don't read fanfiction of my original works until serialization is complete. This is primarily for legal reasons, to protect myself, but also to keep from being swayed during serialization by the prevalent ideas in the fandom. I also won't comment on fanfiction of my original works irt characterization or canonicity once serialization is finished. I'm personally more interested in seeing what the fandom comes up with and don't care to correct them. But if you make fanart please send it to me to see! I love that so much!

I believe that the current attitudes around copyright and "intellectual property" are BS. Art is meant to be shared and to grow in a community, and strict IP regulations prevent that growth. Part of the reason why I am so set on self-publishing via patreon instead of going with traditional publishing is so that I can create my own Transformative and Derivative Works policy (currently, the policy is a WIP but I will link it here once it is finished). As a long-time fanwork creator, I fully understand the amount of work and effort and care that goes into creating fanworks, and wish to take a different approach to the legitimacy of such works, allowing for a network of free creation rather than increasing restrictions with IP and trademarks, so I am working to draft a policy that will allow for free creation and expansion without compromising the integrity of the original work. If any independent creators wish to use some or all of my TDW policy, they are entirely free and encouraged to do so, as I would love to see a world where creators are not so constrained by strict copyright and IP culture, and where stories belong to both the listener and the teller as they have for thousands of years.

I have no interest in engaging in shipcourse, but since my blog is slowly gaining followers and a lot of people on this website care about that sort of thing, I'm going to put my opinions on the matter here. I would consider myself pro-ship under the original meaning (the three fandom laws I mentioned earlier), but not as in “specifically and deliberately seeks out problematic ships.” I think that making a judgment on a person’s real life moral values based on the fictional content they engage with is not only incorrect but also can be dangerous. Characters are characters. Real people are people. There’s a difference. That’s that.

I don’t care or really even think about whether something is “problematic” by the current definition. I ship anything that is compelling to me and creates an interesting and complex story, which can include things that would be absolutely abhorrent in real life but are fascinating dynamics to consider in fiction. That is the only reason I ship things— you can get me to ship almost anything if you can write it compellingly. I am aroace and get no sexual gratification whatsoever from fictional relationships, so don't come into my inbox with some kind of straw man accusation that I “get off” on “problematic depictions of relationships.” Though I don’t care if you do or don’t get off on fiction, it’s none of my business, I personally don’t want to be asked why <insert thing> turns me on because guess what? It doesn’t, and the implication makes me extremely uncomfortable.

I believe that problematic/dark fiction should be treated like an allergen and not radioactive waste. There are things that trigger me or squick me out, and I’m sure there are things that do the same for you. I tag things in my works, and you should tag things in yours, then we can all filter out the things that are harmful to us and be at peace. You can read the linked post there for more details. Otherwise, I don't want to discuss it, so please don't try to approach me about it.

I am personally very uncomfortable with adult/child ships. This only applies to ships where one character is an adult and one is a child at the time of the relationship, or where one character groomed the other during their childhood with the intention of entering a romantic relationship when they became an adult. It also includes characters that are not human and reach maturity at an older or younger age (such as Tolkien’s hobbits who aren’t adults til 33 or the clones in Star Wars who are mature at 10). While mental maturity is the most important to me, I’m also not fond of ships where one character is physically a child, though this is more of a problem in visual media. I don’t care if you ship things like that though, I’ll just block the tags & would prefer not to be requested to create content for them.

ANAHAHAHU your lawlight cultivation AU idea is amazing. Light the demonic cultivator for sure, but like, would he kill other demonic cultivators and steal their spiritual stuff? Would he simply kill astray civilians to use them as ingredients for elixirs? Would he give no fucks and just kill anyone to reach immortal (and in this case the actual godhood original Light was obsessed with)? What the hell would L be? I can’t ser him as being a member of a righteous cultivation sect, he’s too slightly evil, maybe he already ascended and investigates things in the human world to kill boredom.

haha thank you !! it was an idle thought but man. it's so very. mm. good aesthetic to me. i think light absolutely kills other demonic cultivators because firstly straying from the dao is Bad and he's the only one allowed to do it. so you know. they deserve it. and if he steals some of their techniques then so be it. i think he would love the idea of cultivating to immortality; i think it's definitely a goal he's had since he was young and still at the foundation-building stage. i'm not super informed on the Rules of xianxia but he'd be just. fun to follow around the countryside. his exploits and such.

i do think that light wants to reach godhood The Proper Way (cultivating through his own genius and hard work) so he doesn't do any "cheats" per se, though this kind of hubris cripples him when some of the other cultivators have magical items. frankly he's not a top cultivator at all, to me. he's probably a mid tier at best. but he's such a ruthless and canny son of a bitch that most cultivators who know of him give him a wide berth.

enter L, who has absolutely already ascended long ago. he descends from his mountain out of sheer boredom and finds that there's a very silly, very prideful human causing problems everywhere. if asked, he'd say he cultivated to immortality by meditating in a hut by himself for sixty years. this is a blatant, obvious lie, but who's gonna call him on it?

so anyway he gets to roleplay an investigator of all these mysterious deaths and run into light several times and it's all very homoerotic. smiles :]

I'm going to be honest with you i rarely remember anything canon about a character if i dislike it unless its TRULY abhorrent. but if we're going with LEAST favorite canon thing...probably that we don't get to see him enough :( where is my jing yuan yanqing post-ghosthunter event closure.

draw him small and excitable like a puppy. he's truly just a littol guy. im also a HUGE sucker for whenever someone draws him standing/sitting/flying on his swords i just think its so cool and fun. ALSO i think ALL THE TIME about that one comic in which he keeps calling jy General even when they're alone and at home. and the follow-up one in which jy keeps calling him ANY other title except for his son. theyre so cute.

oh i swear i dont remember enough of the hunger games to answer this. wish i could give you a clever answer of "side character #41 and heres why" but personally im very soft for cinna and katniss's friendship,,, i think a lot about the fact that he requested his mockingjay sketchbook only be given to katniss if she decides to take up the mantle herself because he knew seeing his work would compel her to make the decision even if she didn't truly want to...wish we got to see more of them.

24) What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

god i suddenly have never been in any fandom ever in my entire life. uhhhh. god i think i have to say margaret nearl arknights for refusing to win the Major and instead carrying her competition down the path to the champions hall together. she doesn't do a lot of ground work herself in the trenches but she uses her status as a symbol to lead the charge for other resistance groups in kazimierz. because she's a nearl. all eyes are on her when she steps onto the screen and she knows it. the difference between her and katniss though would be that she wields her identity as the Radiant Knight very intentionally and without outside influence. hm. lots to think about.

I am living for your Binghe househusband au, and now I’m imagining a future side story where Tatsu and Masa get brought into the SVSSS world through Contrived Plot Reasons. Masa would definitely freak out, but I can’t decide if learning that there’s an alternate world where demons and magic are real would faze Tatsu? Either way, they’re both glad for him after learning that he’s happily living his best life thanks to what they taught him!

^U^ Thank-you so much! I agree, Masa would freak so hard, especially since Binghe's got access to his cultivation and all his demonic powers here! Just imagine - landing in this weird new place surrounded by people who look like they're from a fantasy Cdrama, and then you hear a familiar voice, what a relief, it's Binghe! And he comes dashing up, wearing clothes like these other people but with a black inner layer rather than white, and he's got on an apron and shades, and it's Binghe, good ol' familiar li'l bro Binghe... who has pointy ears and fangs and when he takes his shades off his eyes are red now, and then he sees Masa freaking out he just... changes back to how he looked when he was spending time with him and Boss Tatsu. Ah-haha, what?

Meanwhile Binghe's so excited to see Tatsu-sensei and introduce him to Shizun and Binghe's new friends and look, Sensei, I'm not married yet, but I'm keeping house, please inspect my work! Also, um. Let’s get Tatsu-sensei and aniki some different clothes, I know you’re perfectly suitable for going out in public where you live, but you’re half naked here.

Tatsu probably gets checked for possession, curses, sealed powers, and the like a million times, all the while Binghe tries over and over to convince everyone that no, really, Tatsu-sensei is just Like That, he’s fully human and not cursed or a cultivator or anything, he’s just... like that. Really. It took Binghe awhile to figure it out, too. Beyond that... I dunno, I have the feeling that Tatsu would externally roll with all this while internally going ??? and worrying about how Miku’s doing while he’s he’s here. Is she eating all right, she’s not spending too much of the household budget on games is she, did he shake out the futon before he left...?

Meanwhile Masa... oh Masa. (climbs onto a stack of books to be tall enough, puts hands on his shoulders, and stares into his eyes) I’m sorry, you’re a fun character and an okay guy, but you are not smart, and SVSSS is going to take one look at you and slap you upside the head with six different wife plots. This is a man who’s going to learn about duel cultivation before he goes home, not even because I’m trying to start anything, but because I know in my heart that this is what would happen to him here.

On the plus side, he is proud that his li’l bro’s doing so well for himself and is apparently part of one of the biggest, most successful organizations around. And Masa never really got why Binghe was so into this Shizun guy, and he still kinda doesn’t, but (from Masa’s perspective) Binghe’s well on his way to being the wife of the second in command of this group, and that’s nothing to sneeze at, so good for him. And hey, Binghe’s got some some subordinates (Mobei-jun, Liu Qingge, and Sha Hualing) of his own that seem pretty tough, congrats!

Binghe: They’re my friends, aniki.

Masa: Then how come they do what you say?

Binghe: (trying to think of a polite way to say ‘I’m the smart one of the guys and Sha Hualing only really listens if she thinks it’s funny’)

Meanwhile Tatsu’s off learning xianxia laundry techniques and subtly getting tested for demonic possession again.

I think he's best understood thru the way other ppl talk abt him – so here are a couple names/epithets!

His maternal grandmother is a distinguished mobster known as The Old Empress, which is why most ppl call Tian "Crown Prince", "the Prince", etc. Their family is more/less popularly-elected local deities (see "city god" on Wikipedia) and he's the last of the bloodline But has been refusing to officially inherit for over a decade, though he performs all the duties anyway. Old, old agreements put them above virtually all modern law, generally thru loopholes that allow them to, for example, literally start a gang war at 23 bc you got a little too annoyed Or take an eye for an eye/publicly execute someone as ritual vengeance. They also sometimes call him "Bodhisattva" bc he, due to Circumstances, grew up in a Buddhist monastery from age 8, along with Jin, his baby brother. He became an ordained monk at 20 but disrobed at 22 so he could help Jin thru university. During that time, he worked three primary jobs: seasonal construction worker/contractor, auto mechanic, and plumber. "why not model" No Vanities Lifestyle. He Is Just Some Guy. He Wishes He Were Still Bald. Fuck Fast Fashion Btw.

With his name specifically, Tian Tian, family name 田 “field” + given name 天 “heaven/day/sky” is his entire character – simple, no frills, unassuming on paper, but also strong, steady, salt of the earth. It's a name that once you see him both does and doesn't do him justice, like surely there's something fancier and yet between those two characters you already have the world. The name is also 9 strokes altogether! Fav number and an auspicious one – 9 heavens + if you've ever seen an imperial dragon robe, it's 9 dragons with scales in multiples of 9, eg 81.

A few bonus reasons I chose 天:

I associate him with swans (symbol of beauty but also violent, aggressive birds), 大天鹅 Big Heaven Goose

Single-character names are so elegant/Tough to me

Canonically seen as a "Fifth Great Beauty", literally a man named Heaven, the H is for Husband TO ME

FACT I decided on the monk thing after I named him and I think it's funny. His Dharma name is 釋恒心 Shi Hengxin btw which means "monk", literally, and "resolution"

So I jumped from tpac to dbd and binged the stories and the au tags here, and I have to say, I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. I’ve always enjoyed stories that mix science and magic, and the way you write the science is so clearly grounded in experience and expertise that it pulls me in all the deeper. Also your footnotes are a godsend because this was my first time reading a wuxia/xianxia and while I probably would have stuck with reading through it without the notes, I wouldn’t have engaged with the story half as much.

Bit of a tonal shift, but I have a few theories about zyx’s metal-screeching xinmo thing (in no particular order):

1. It’s from the event that killed zyx before they transmigrated. The reason zyx can’t visualize it is because they couldn’t see what caused it or the memory is repressed.

2. It’s from zyx’s possession incident. Again, it can’t be visualized because the memory was repressed or because zyx was possessed at the time (I don’t know how the mechanics of comprehension or cognition during ghost possession work).

3. Like #2 it’s from the possession incident, BUT the xinmo was actually the ghost’s and zyx somehow leeched it off the ghost (maybe when it left to possess zyf?). Which is why zyx can’t visualize it: it isn’t theirs. (Maybe they need to track down the original ghost, potentially leading to a run-in with their family?)

So far I’ve loved everything you’ve done, and I can’t wait to see where you take it from here!

Thank you for enjoying the science; I...yes. do science. too much of it...okay lol, besides that, my goal with mixing tech/STEM w magic (especially a magic system and genre I grew up on) isn't to deny one or the other, or do that thing where some writers combine it into an OP mix. I also don't want to over-glorify science? It's both cool but also, just a thing. A day job. Drudgery is involved.

In fact, the joke w my friends is that if you ask any of us do we like what we do at an instant, we'd say "Kill me now." But overall, we'd never quit STEM.

The footnotes are a defining thing for dbd. So ADHD, and works only with the irreverent 1st person pov for the fic. There's a lot I ask of readers upfront, w the convoluted worldbuilding, all the OCs, the two different dialects of Chinese, and a lot of cultural stuff--so I think the style is very much 'love it or hate it'. If you jump back and forth, it's the closest thing a reader has to the way I yammer on and on irl lol.

Among your three guesses, there are the ingredients to make the correct soup (missing a final bit). For someone that's unfamiliar with the genre, your guess are pretty sound! I'm not into plot twists or resolutions that are completely out of pocket, so someone could make a completely correct guess based on everything already written.
