A little warm up Wesper drabble inspired by the prompt, "You're wearing that? Tonight of all nights?" from @tinyarmedtrex. ♥️
“You’re wearing that?” asked Jesper, stopping in the doorway. He looked Wylan up and down, from his fitted black dress shirt to his garter belt and stockings, which he was clipping into place. Wylan spared him a glance, smirking a little, and Jesper swallowed—
This felt like a trap, or like a test of his will, or something equally sinister.
He tried looking away, but it was hard, and soon enough, he knew what else would be, because those glances—that smirk—those red heels by the mirror in place of black dress shoes—and where were Wylan’s pants? Jesper shook his head, incredulous. He had wanted this so long. This exact sight in front of him. Wylan knew it, too. He knew it, and he’d picked tonight—TONIGHT OF ALL NIGHTS—
Saints.
“W-we’re hosting dinner for the council,” Jesper weakly protested.
Wylan smirked at him again as he slipped into his heels. He didn’t say anything—not immediately, at least. He took his time in coming over, grabbing Jesper by the wrist, pulling him further into the room so he could shut the door behind him. Only then, leaning close into Jesper’s ear, did he whisper, “I may have rearranged our schedule.”

Help a girl break her writer's block
I have been fighting bad writer's block for a while (years). And dealing with some mental health issues. So I am running away this weekend to a place with no cell service, just mountains and a river and a tent and my dog, with a brand new notebook and a pretty pen that writes beautifully.
Now here's where you come in....
I need prompts. I need new prompts. I wanna ignore my WIPs and dive into new stuff, drabbles, one shots, what have you to get my writer's block out of the way. I'm hoping by doing this it'll help me get back into the stories I know some of you are patiently waiting for me to finish (Blinded by the Fog, The Art of Resilience, Stick Handling ).
So send me your thoughts, thots and prompts for our favorite muses. You have til Thursday Night (Mountain Time Zone in North America) to make it into my new notebook.
Here's a list of characters I will write for/ want to write for.
Anders Lassen
Aril Levinson
Billy Butcher
Cavillrine
Curtis Everett
Daryl Dixon
David “Deacon” Kay
Dean Winchester
Eddie Munson
Evan Marshall
Franklin Clay
Geralt of Rivia

James 'Logan" Howlett/ Wolverine

When writing feels stale and unfamiliar...
Ever be trying to finish a WIP, update a fanfic, or push out something for school, but writing just suddenly feel so stale, almost like your own writing doesn't sound like you...
Well I'm here to help you break that cycle!
This feeling usually happens when either two things happen
Imposter Syndrome
or
You're Simply Improving
That's right, it's not you doing something wrong, you're just being a skilled writer. How do we get out of this dull feeling though? There's a lot of different tactics you can try. Here's some potential options.
Read your own writing
Read your own writing. Do it! Not only does it cause you to realize how much you like your own writing, it forces you to refresh. it's a great way to remember where you were going in a piece, and any potential themes or writing style you accidentally dropped. It makes it easier to pick up some lost mistakes too, and discover some places to improve.
(this one works twice as well after a break or some passage of time :D)
Change of Atmosphere
Not exactly a change of location, but instead a change of atmosphere. Play a new lo-fi playlist, try writing without any sound at all, indulge in thematic video essays in the background. Sometimes in order to regain focus the atmosphere needs to change.
Consume New Content
This goes for all creatives who are stumped. To output constant creative creations and ideas you require an input in the first place. For some people it may take awhile before they feel the brunt of creative block, but it will eventually come for all. The best advice I can give is to consume new media. Read a new book, watch a TV show, play a video game, find a new artist you like. This is all input. Input becomes output.
Take A Break
Not everyone has the privilege to do this one, but if you do, don't turn your nose from it. Taking a break isn't exactly something everyone does creative-wise, especially those who deal with a quick working skill regression. I've been there.
Taking a break from something is a great way to make it feel fresh when you return. Breaks don't have to be long. Depending on what calculates as a break for you is what you should strive for (even if it's only a day or two).
Acceptance
Accept that you are not going to create the top most, polished stuff 24/7 Every artist and writer creates and dumps ton of unfinished art, erases pieces, and makes lots of mistakes. Often times the best work that we admire takes a lot of time, refinement, practice, and drafts. Sometimes we just have to write badly in order to come back and do it again good.

fanfic doldrums
trying to finish fleshed in the wife yeeee goddsss i suck at plotting; but i'm gonna get there with vibes and playlists while i annotate every Dune book i own
between bits working on widower!anthony/edwina fic that involves reading lots of colonial history, which i enjoy, but....it's gonna take foreverrrr
dabbling with some RPF ideas that are too experimental for now - no one needs an italo calvino pastiche right this moment
oddly enough being tempted to finish a fic for the movie abigail, which was a pretty underwhelming experience for me, but i started a draft back in the summer and i rly like some of the dialogue i wrote for it, so who knows
have to update my other WIPs grrrr i am so fickle
am sort of amused that this HP fic i'm writing on the side anonymously has gotten lots of response (more than i ever thought it would), but cannot reveal that it's me because then i wouldn't have the freedom of dashing off each chapter without worrying about the brand(tm) lol
feeling like i want to finish my saurondriel/haladriel WIP but also feeling too meh post-election
generally exhausted because academia + there's so much to write
will probably give myself a break, but also stay on schedule
instead of writer's block - writer's way too many avenues
but i love fucking around with my made-up stories so lemme go do that
wishing blessings and inspo to all yall's writing this winter <3

After many, many months of perpetual writers block which sometimes spilled out a few words...I think I've made a realisation.
This isn't one of those posts like, "Do this to clear your writer's block!" This is entirely personal and I'm just sharing in case it resonates with even one other person on here.
I am holding myself back.
I wanted to write in sequence; start and finish a chapter before moving on.
I discarded the need for perfection long ago, but I just need to fix that one thing...
And if I can't write this scene properly I'll come back another day. Week. Month. Year.
Setting myself nonsensical rules.
It would be better if I wrote my WIPs in chronological order--start with creation stories like The Legend of Corroneau's Landing before starting on anything else set in the same place.
I am the block that stifles my creativity
And I have to be the one to clear this block.
What works for other people might not work for me.
What works for me might do nothing for someone else.
Discard the rules
I can write whichever WIP most takes my fancy at any given moment
Even one word written is progress.
No one holds you back more than yourself.

Tagged By: @qcomicsy (thank you, my love!)

Wow. Okay so. Wasn't expecting to have so many.
ALSO! Hi guys!! It's been a while huh? Turns out I haven't been experiencing writers block. It's been depression. Yuck.
Motivation is slowly coming back so should hopefully be posting things again soon. I need to flex my writing fingers a little so if I start posting complete garbage then please forgive me!!
Little bit of a sidenote: I'm going on a night out with friends tonight, (One of them is playing in a band so we're going to support him). So if I start drunkenly posting nonsense I'm NOT SORRY. That's a problem for tomorrow me.
If any of you want a more in-depth look at any of these, shoot me an ask 💕

fic writer questions
haiii thank u @bright-and-burning for the tag :') nobody is online so i will Reflect and return with a worse image...
how many works do you have on AO3?
20 (16 on my main account, 4 on my sports account)... and then 15 more on dreamwidth 🥲
what's your total ao3 word count?
175.5k T__T
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
gurllll. no one needs to see my 11th grade k-pop fic like that
do you respond to comments? why or why not?
i try my best but i have a difficult relationship with my writing so i often block out that i wrote a fic at all after some time and it hinders my ability to acknowledge commenters directly ;__; and then i always feel awkward responding like 6 months late to someone so i just let it go even though i know no one actually minds... i really do appreciate every comment i get though and deeply cherish everyone's kind words and generosity!!!
what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
i don't really write angsty endings tbh i just write vaguely bittersweet ambiguous stuff... perhaps sharl character study i wrote for a friend's birthday would be up there because the whole thing is just inelegant whump LOL
what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
for my own birthday a couple of years ago i wrote an extremely self-indulgent k-pop fic with all of my favorite tropes and also coded elaborate interactive html/css elements with multimedia messages and notifications you could tap on and the whole thing was just sweet secret relationship toothrutting fluff 💗 anyway extremely cringe but i enjoyed myself and thought it was mostly cute
do you write crossovers?
i haven't for any fictional fandoms... the concept is fun though!
have you ever received hate on a fic?
not directly 2 my face !!!
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
i'm an ambiguous fade 2 black kind of guy even if i do try my best at times... TT i'm just too repressed 4 this life unfortunately. pwp writers have my major respect it really is sooo difficult to write cohesive compelling comprehensible porn
have you ever had a fic stolen?
idts but i have had oomfs/people adjacent my circles turn out to be plagiarizers which is always an unpleasant surprise!
have you ever had a fic translated?
yasss shoutout to anyone who has translated my random fics to russian or spanish 🧡
have you ever co-written a fic before?
yes ! i wrote a bnha au for a k-pop ship with my friend once lol she wrote most of it and i kind of just contributed a scene and the concept but it was still really fun, she's a much better writer than i could ever hope to be... also helped friend finish a fic for a fest once because it was overdue and she tapped out so i was up until 6am filling in scenes randomly for her. oh to be 18 again <3
what's your all-time favorite ship?
unfortunately in f1 it is simply landoscar... all-time i don't know!!! actually i do but i don't want to say it. nvm
what's a wip that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
arghhh... all of my 814 wips at the moment honestly. especially my kidfic verse that i'm deeply attached to but tragically incapable of working on TT and the jb81 that i totally gave up on!!!
what are your writing strengths?
this is an oxymoron.... i have never written anything good in my entire life. i love to beta read other people's fic for grammar though that's always fun
what are your writing weaknesses?
poor/stiff dialogue, horrible romantic development, inconsistent scene lengths, completely flat plot, no concept of good writing practices in general, a horrible tendency to purple prose, inability to write any actual conflict, i could go on
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
ehmmm i had a lot of strong opinions on this in k-pop fandom LOL and then it was funny to see the same thing happening in f1 but just with different languages (so much random french/german dialogue...) but i think there are untranslatable or commonly recognized words that can be sprinkled in verbatim, like in k-pop it makes sense to use certain honorifics that don't have english equivalents but i draw the line at not translating existing terms like "mom" lol... but i have a lot of thoughts on how languages are communicated in fic in general (perhaps too many), like i also overthink how to communicate grammatical structure - so if i'm writing a french character speaking french but presenting the dialogue in english or same with korean in k-pop fic i usually try to make it flow in a way that is as grammatically reasonable as possible, which goes beyond simple semantics but into the actual logic of syntax + verb order... ok i'll stop actually
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
i was writing crasy fanfiction in middle school 🧡 earliest i remember though is probably naruto circa 6th/7th grade... honestly hard to say because i purged a lot of my ffdotnet output out of shame in 8th grade lmfao
what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
I Forgor...
what's your favorite fic you've written?
for my sports fics i'm partial to my latest 814 fic because i feel like it's just generally inoffensive and not plainly awful 🤔 in general though i'm attached to some of my like most niche audience_of_2 dw fic that i've written for nugu boy groups with literally 0 fans. like a level of total nobodyness few can comprehend........... we were in the trenches
no pressure tagging @piastrisms @chelemlem @miamimaiden @liamlawsonlesbian if it would be of any interest ! 🥰

Twenty questions for fic writers
thanks @kneelingshadowsalome !!!! @ohbo-ohno @charliemwrites if u guys wanna do this go ahead. or anyone else that feels like it
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
47 LMAO
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
a staggering 583,382
3. What fandoms do you write for?
call of duty basically exclusively now, but i used to also write for star wars, shadow & bone, spiderverse, rings of power, and the last of us (may write more for tlou in the future)
4. Top five by kudos.
dead ringer, take me home country road, red dawn, ghost prompts, and landscape with honey.
5. Do you respond to comments?
god i used to all the time ages ago, but now i don't. i truly just get so overwhelmed and it exhausts me. i will respond to the odd comment now and again though, and i read them all obsessively.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
"the terrible nature of ghosts" for sure
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
i guess "landscape with honey" ended on a sweet note. or "birdsongs". i like writing fics that have endings that feel neither happy nor sad; i'd like to think that most of my fics end on a note that make you feel mildly uneasy but overall good.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
i have blocked an UNTOLD amount of people, so not anymore. but every now and then i'll get the stray "you're evil and the shit you write is fucked up" comment. people tend not to do that when you moderate comments though.
9. Do you write smut?
well now, that's my bread and butter
10. Craziest crossover.
i'm with salome on this one - i'm a purist. not interested in crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
ages ago when i was younger sure. not since then thankfully.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
maybe?? i know some people have asked and i've given them permission but then they've never come back to tell me whether they did it or not.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
yes!!! i wrote "dead ringer" with a friend and it's my most popular fic lmao. i love love love co-writing with people, but i rarely do it because your style kind of has to match the other person's in order for it to work.
14. All time favorite ship?
god reylo was really it for me for the longest time. i'm not sure any non x reader thing will ever top that. i do LOVE abby/ellie from the last of us, but there's hardly anything for them.
15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
any reylo incomplete fic, im so sorry. it's just not gonna happen.
16. What are your writing strengths?
detailed descriptions. introspection and character analysis.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
DIALOGUE. i don't know how the fuck people talk sometimes. also longer plots. and i'm not amazing with visualizing how houses and places look for some reason so i really need to get better at that (i'll be honest, i still don't FULLY know what the town in "country roads" looks like so i try to describe it very vaguely).
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
i really only enjoy it when it's used effectively - when the audience is supposed to be aligned with the main character in not understanding what's being said.
19. First fandom you wrote in?
teen wolf!
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
"saltwater" my beloved. or "auribus teneo lupum" from my reylo days.

fic writer questions
thank you to the lovely @mecachrome for the tag <333
how many works do you have on AO3?
there are 19 on my profile currently! there is also one anon, and I believe nine orphaned (rip)
what's your total ao3 word count?
statistics page says 92,629! it is somewhere north of that (see above reference to orphaned fics)
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
biting fic, vegas fluff, child actors au, witch charles, remote control vibrator + feelings
do you respond to comments? why or why not?
yes!! I want to show appreciation for people taking the time, and honestly I'm just so excited that I always want to respond asljdf;asaf
what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
definitely i can feel the sun on you! (that is perhaps a spoiler for the 71 year old movie Roman Holiday lol)
I don't even really think of it as angsty, though, they're each in a better place than when they started, they're just not together (and I don't do that much because I'm a sap)
what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
maybe the sky might not always be blue, for sure....I have a habit of leaving fics in the moment of getting together, and that one tackles the happily ever after a bit more
do you write crossovers?
not really! my old little women modern au fic has some pop-in characters from other louisa may alcott works but I don't think that really counts (I did also dabble in 1D/LM/HP crossovers as like bday presents for fandom friends back in the day but those never made it out of their inboxes lol)
have you ever received hate on a fic?
no, I'm very lucky! I have received the occasional odd "constructive" comment, but I try to take people on good faith that they're trying to be helpful! (I have also gotten a couple of less-than-stellar numerical bookmarks ratings...I am begging people to learn to use private bookmarks if they want to do that)
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
yes...not sure what "what kind" means, but it ranges from decidedly vanilla to somewhat less so...vibes wise it always involves a Lot of Feelings even if those feelings aren't necessarily romantic (though they often are)
have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that I know of!
have you ever had a fic translated?
nope!
have you ever co-written a fic before?
not yet....ro and I have thrown around a couple of ideas but we haven't managed it yet. I'd be interested in trying though!
what's your all-time favorite ship?
this is an interesting question to me,,, I feel like there are different answers to this depending on if it's like...in media in general, in fic, in rpf, in f1......I will answer with Enjolras/Grantaire, bc baby 11 year old jo who had never heard the term "slash" and barely knew the concept of fanfiction read the brick and then got pissed when she was R in a drama camp production and was blocked to have a girlfriend in Drink With Me, because "obviously he's in love with enjolras"
what's a wip that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
brocedes knight/prince dragonslayers my beloved/beloathed.....I know what it needs to be but it's very different than anything I have ever actually accomplished....
what are your writing strengths?
I think I'm decent at mood and imagery! but honestly I'm not sure....maybe those things only make sense in my head lol. I do know that my fics have made people laugh, which is lovely <3
what are your writing weaknesses?
plot!!! I am bad at writing anything that isn't just vignettes strung together, though I am Working On It....also sometimes I like my dialogue but other times I feel it verges on hokey....also someday I would love to be able to write something longer than 12k....or even just write something 10k again.....
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
it's tricky! I do think it's easy to fall into tropey-ness with it, especially in a fandom where it's common (eg, this one)...I definitely do it some, though! and I did enjoy putting sentences in french/spanish/italian in whole cloth in i can feel the sun on you, bc it was supposed to mimic the feeling of watching roman holiday
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
first fic I ever published was for 1D asldjfa;jf (and was.......far and away the worst case of just really obviously projecting onto some dudes I have ever done.....but I was 18 and my mom had just died so)
first fic I ever wrote, before I even knew it was called that, was definitely either anne of green gables or lord of the rings, in fourth grade
what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
someday i will write the perfect his dark materials fic and actually know peace.....also in f1 terms I would love to Actually write galex!! i love them so much that it's sort of weird that I haven't written them
what's your favorite fic you've written?
it depends on the day! right now I would say either you don't have to know that it's haunted or would have loved you (in a day or two)
no-pressure tags: @oscarpiastriwdc @blorbocedes @kritischetheologie @wewentcarracing @gayferrari @foggieststars and anyone else who wants to do it! I have no idea who's done this one already

All week I told myself that on Sunday, I was going to write all day.
I opened my laptop up for the first time in two weeks. I haven't written a word since I finished editing Expensive and tried for over an hour to work on my series Like My Dreams.
I thought about it all week and have been so eager to continue it, only the words won't come.
I know it's not for lack of passion or wanting to; I think about this story (and all the other ones) constantly.
I've been trying to deny some feelings for a while, or chalk it up to getting too much in my own head, but today it's come down heavier than ever and what is ultimately responsible for blocking my creativity and turning my love for my stories from thoughts into actual sentences.
I'm lonely.
I've never felt so alone.
The Charlie fandom seems to be relatively non existent, or just extremely quiet.
I have no space. No where I fit in.
I'm on the outskirts, trying to find a spot, constantly seeing if there is a way I can have a place for my ideas, stories, and even friendship, and have it hold some value to the others I'm around.
The more I post on here, the less I feel seen.
Engagement on this platform has reduced drastically across the board, and it's effecting so many artists.
It's not about numbers. I'm sure some of you are probably thinking "your last fic has over 100 notes". Yeah. It does. Almost all of those notes are likes, and more than half the reblogs are my own.
What I'm seeking is engagement. Conversation. A likeness and kinship started by a common interest that blooms into simple conversations and thoughts shared.
Comparison is a bitch. I see so many people living the Tumblr life I wish to have. Asks, comments, reblogs of teasers and moodboards for upcoming fics screaming of excitement and praise and how eager they are to read it. People dropping everything they're doing to read the latest chapter of their friend's new fic.
I realize the many reasons why I'm in a different position than they are, but lately it's been screaming at me louder than ever that I'm lacking something meaningful or whatever I'm doing on here isn't enough.
I've tried creating a buzz around my stories. I am aware that most of the time I write for unpopular characters with a smaller fan base, so I set the bar lower but am still left feeling inadequate even when I write for the popular ones. Whenever I've shared snippets of WIPs in hopes to gain some excitement from my readers, it falls short. Usually it'll inspire me to keep going, to write better than ever and make this next fic The Best One that makes me so happy and excited to get out. (For Charlie, I'll say, and write something I'm so unbelievably proud of) and then sometimes it makes me wonder if I should bother continuing at all.
I know I am not owed anything by anyone and no one is obligated to read or comment or anything of the sort, and I am beyond grateful for the comments and support I do receive, and the friendships I've made, old and new.
I'm not exactly sure what I'm getting at here, I just needed to write it down and "talk" it out.
I've been battling the decision to continue writing but not share it. I don't want that to happen, because as much as I write these stories for myself, a lot of the fun of it comes from being able to share it with all of you.
Nothing dramatic is happening. I'm not leaving, and I will be writing again because I'm not at all done with what I have to say about these characters, I just felt this needed to be said and already feel a little lighter by sharing it.
Write your stories, comment on your favourite fics, scream with your mutuals about a photo or gif that inspired something in you, tell your writer friends and writers you've never spoken to but love their stories just how much you do... I promise it makes more of an impact than you know. 💗

Tidbit Tuesdays: And We're Back
*slides in with a coffee and sunglasses to hide the dark circles under my eyes*
It hasn't been two weeks since I posted, I don't know what you're talking about.
Anyway, an emergency root canal, a crown, and quite a lot of money later, I'm back on my LaDs grind. Truth be told on top of everything else, I'm going through writer's block, so WIPs is just about all I've got.
Can't commit to anything, like my teeth can't commit to my mouth.
If you've survived this rambling, bless. This week's WIPs are just a random assortment of things. And if you're new here, this is where I post things I'm proud of, just generally like, or am currently working on.
If you enjoy this (or just generally appreciate people) please leave a like or a reblog! It lets me know people like what I'm doing, and encourages me to keep writing!
---
Notes: first up is Zayne and Kiri, my MC. I recently finished catching up on the new (!!!) main storyline additions, so this is your spoiler warning before I continue.
I loved where the story went, and so decided to do a "what if" in which Kiri temporarily has her memory restructured by the Protofield and the Myst, dropped into a dreamscape that reflects Dreamwalker's world.
It's fun. It's SUPER fun. I should get back to it soon.
❄️❄️❄️
Kiri’s day ended like this:
Akso hospital had strict regimented shifts to combat the constant wave of abominations. At the end of hers, she got scanned, tested, and questioned before she was allowed to leave. A pair of military men in uniforms escorted her down out of the hospital campus, waiting with her until someone could come pick her up.
They never needed to wait long.
Zayne was almost always perfectly on time.
The black silhouette appeared silently through the thick mist, her escorts tensing before realizing who it was. She patted one on the shoulder, saying her goodbyes before stepping forward.
Her hand found Zayne's before she'd even said a word.
“How was work?” He murmured. In his other hand were groceries, the plastic sack sagging with the weight.
Kiri sighed, pulling her hair loose from its bun. “Long,” she replied. “Three more cases today. The ACU ward is overflowing already, and Chansia hospital can't take anymore. They're bursting at the seams.” She leaned into him, her pink scrubs brushing against the wool of his coat.
He frowned at her. “You took your jacket this morning. Where is it?”
“Hm?” Kiri blinked in surprise. “Oh. Someone needed it more than I did.” She smiled at his exasperated sigh, tugging on his sleeve. “Come on. I have you to keep me warm, don't I?”
Zayne shook his head, a slight smile forcing its way through his irritation. “Still. The nurse can't help people if she gets sick, can she? Your health has to come first.”
She hummed, neither agreeing nor denying it. He huffed in response. “Let's go home, my moon.”
Kiri had worked at Akso hospital as long as she could remember. She'd graduated top of her class, with perfect marks, and settled easily into her new life. Work in the Abominations Containment Unit was intense, and it seemed her coworkers were on a revolving door roster. Few people stayed as long as she did, with cases increasing every day.
It was at some point during that that she met Zayne.
A former patient of hers had cornered her in an alley, begging for help before turning into an awful, monstrous thing.
A sudden explosion of black ice had been her saving grace.
The man in black had vanished as quickly as he'd appeared, and, well…
As if following a thread of fate itself, she chased after him.
It was unconscionable for a nurse and someone like him to fall in together. Kiri was well aware she was breaking the code of ethics, not to mention the oaths she'd taken.
Yet here they were.
It felt like it had been forever since they'd gotten together.
It felt like it had been no time at all.

Notes: This one's been in the mental WIP for a while. I usually let ideas ferment in my head for a while before I bake them into fics, like a good sourdough.
This one focuses on Kit and Sylus, Kit being his second in command and NOT the MC. If you've been here a while, you know her. Anyway, I wanted to do a "what if Kit got hurt" thing, and as usual, they can't help bantering even when she's been stabbed. Go figure.
Fair warning, this one does feature some gruesome imagery. Not a lot though.
‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐈‍⬛
The remains of the building shuddered, dust and sheetrock crumbling down. Sylus ran his flashlight over the rubble, keeping an ear out for any voices.
“Keep a low profile,” he murmured to the twins. “It's not just Kit that might be down here.”
The twins nodded firmly.
The building was a winding, gray mess, shadowed corners scurrying away at each sweep of the flashlights. Every once in a while, they would have to make a wide berth around slowly seeping pools of red, checking the remains for identification.
So far, there were only strangers.
“Fan out,” Sylus murmured. “We'll get more coverage that way.”
The twins and the other men he brought along nodded, splitting up into groups of two. All of them had radios, but it was a shot in the dark whether they would keep working in the lingering metaflux.
It was eerily quiet down here.
The rubble blocked all outside noises, leaving nothing but the occasional whisper of dust or the clatter of stone.
At last, he came to a room that was nearly intact.
It appeared to be a lab, the viewing windows completely shattered. A single threadbare bulb struggled to stay lit, swinging to and fro as it flickered dangerously.
Sylus carefully stepped inside, his feet crunching softly on the broken glass.
A body lay inside, the head twisted unnaturally. A badge on the lab coat proclaimed this to be someone who worked in the building.
The position of their hand was odd, and he leaned closer to examine it. There were faint marks to indicate they'd tightly gripped something before they died.
A second later, his instincts screamed for him to move, and he rolled out of the way, just as someone dropped down from a ceiling panel.
He swiftly got to his feet, ducking left as a shot fired, cutting through his jacket. With a lunge forward, he slammed his hand down, disarming his opponent.
A blade kissed his throat from their other hand, and he looked down into the cold, wild eyes of Kit.
“It's me, sweetie,” he said breathlessly.
Kit blinked. Her hair was messy and dusty, falling out of its usual braid. She held herself strangely, almost curling forward as she gripped the blade.
“Prove it,” she snapped.
Red mist yanked the blade from her grasp, pulling her into his arms. Sylus let just enough power through to make his eye glow without invading her thoughts. “How's that?”
She hissed in pain, grabbing his jacket to steady herself. “That works,” she grit out. “Someone had a doppelganger evol here. They looked like Evan, our diagnostics head.”
Sylus swore, thinking of the nervous man he'd spoken to before. “He might have made it out. I just spoke to Evan before we entered. Are you alright?”
Kit shook her head. “Took a piece of rebar to the side. I didn't have the luxury of keeping it stuck in there, there were people trying to kill me. How did you of all people not notice Evan?”
He clicked his tongue disapprovingly. “Occasionally things do escape me, kitten. It's harder to tell when the man in question is always sweating like he's in a sauna.” He glanced at her sidelong. “Speaking of, you bring up a good point. What's to say you aren't a doppelganger? A good one, but one nonetheless.”
She reared back, offended. “Excuse you! Are you implying my fighting is on the level of any average person?”
Sylus smirked. “Your ability with firearms does leave something to be desired.”
“You motherfu- eep!” Kit squeaked as Sylus picked her up, his arm settling neatly under her bottom. She clung to his shoulders as a scarlet flush swept across her skin.
He chuckled. “There's that beautiful full-body blush. No imposter after all.”
“If I survive this,” Kit snapped, “I'm going to do my best to choke you out.”
“I look forward to it.” He stepped out of the room, grabbing his radio. “Twins, can you read me?”
The radio crackled for a moment before a reply came through. “Loud and clear, boss. Has mama bird been located?”
“I take it back,” Kit muttered. “I'm killing them first, and then you.”
Sylus smiled at that. “Mama bird is with me, yes,” he replied, his eyes crinkling at the murderous glare she shot his direction. “We're exiting the building now. Withdraw and rendezvous at South Tower.”
🐦‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐈‍⬛
Note: Ahahaha. Our last one is Omegaverse. That's flustering and fun. This one's less suggestive, mostly due to the fact that I was jotting down headcanons for Omegaverse AU and it turned into mini fics. So this one is Zayne and Kiri.
❄️❄️❄️
For some reason, the universe decides to bless Kiri with the worst possible heat to go along with her myriad of health problems.
In the week leading up to it, she feels exhausted and sick, throwing up food easily and sleeping poorly.
Previous doctors have told her that it's because she has an extremely high hormone production rate, and it means she's extra fertile.
That she should be grateful.
She had to hold herself back from strangling them.
It also means she can't take suppressants.
Zayne, at least, is sympathetic. Even long before they begin a relationship, he reaches out through his connections to find her hormone specialists, people who can help her manage her symptoms.
And after they start dating, well.
He spoils her rotten.
Zayne can only really take the week of her heat off, with how vital he is to operations in Akso Hospital. However, the clean house, fresh linens, and hot food he gets for her goes a long way towards helping.
She always tries to protest his help after his shift is over, stating that he already works enough.
He just does it anyway. All her plushies get scented, her favorite pastries are bought, and her extra expensive jar of tea is left out by a new mug on the kitchen island.
She could just cry from how sweet he is.
When her heat strikes, it's similar.
Kiri becomes very particular about her nest, only choosing the most recent articles of clothing he's worn. She gets exhausted very quickly, and Zayne purchases scent blocking candles to light throughout the entire apartment.
(He's seriously considering how much it would be to get a house outside of the city. If he catches another Alpha lingering at his doorstep or below his balcony window, he's going to break his doctor's oaths on purpose)
❄️❄️❄️
Thanks for reading, and have a good Tuesday!

#MRCH7TH ⸻ you, my child, know that the past is as intangible as a hazy mirage. but everything you are experiencing right now will surely be etched in stone by those who come after. MARCH 7TH of HONKAI: STAR RAIL, as remembered by qiu / darcy. ( 18 , they / he , gmt+8 ) i also write lyney!

Tumblr media
hi there! the name's darcy, your local lyney & march 7th writer. if you need to reach me, the best way to do it is through discord ( pings / dms are a-okay from gh members! ) and you're welcome to ask for mine if you are not in the server. tumblr ims are also alright if you prefer, but will just be a bit slower for me to get to.
i am a full-time university student so my reply speed is very variable. you will get something back in a day or in two months /j (but also sometimes not really HAHA) i do try my best to get back to people in a timely manner as much as possible though  but if you ever want to drop or just check in on a thread if it's been a bit please feel free to, i will never mind!
in a somewhat similar vein, sometimes i may take a bit to reply ooc—i promise it's not you, i've just got social anxiety i'm afraid. i'm a bit better about it these days but i still do get a bit anxious if we haven't talked all that much, it's really nothing personal! and sometimes i'm just forgetful LOL so if it's been a bit since i've gotten back to you please do feel free to give me a nudge. more likely than not, it just slipped my mind.
i format my posts with small text and bolded + colored dialogue. i do technically have icons as well but i'm very lazy about using them. i also do my best to check if someone has a formatting preference, but if you need any specific accommodations from me and i've forgotten, please do let me know!
march's dossier is also a wip :crylaugh: i will finish all my housekeeping on both my muses eventually istg. as a quick rundown for those unfamiliar with march 7th or honkai: star rail, she woke up without any memories after being broken free from a block of ice floating around space. now, she's part of a group called the nameless who travel the universe on a train called the astral express, searching for her missing past. she is like The Extrovert amongst all the characters i have ever written so it is really easy for me to toss her into any situation tbh HAHA

It's Friday night here, so I'm kicking off my weekend with a
Weekend WIP Game!
Rules: List your WIPs below (if you only write one fic at a time, feel free to include future WIPs/ideas!) then answer the following questions. Then, tag as many people as you have WIPs (or more).
Someone tagged me to do this last time, but I just felt like doing it this time because it's been over a year and my list has changed drastically so... I guess I'm starting a fresh tag chain 😂 I don't know who created this game, but thanks to whoever did, because these are fun questions!
1. WIP List:
(in no particular order)
The Paris trip outtake (Flower Fic 'verse)
Loverboy Henry (the one where he woos Alex)
Oxford Boys
Omegaverse Rejection Sickness AU
Omegaverse Rejection Sickness AU Prequel
Single All The Way AU
Dad Alex AU
Hanahaki AU
Childhood Friends Sequel
2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?
Hanahaki AU, I think, but Dad Alex is catching up fast!
Edit: lmao, just kidding, Dad Alex AU has like 8k on Hanahaki AU so far, prose-wise. I had to check the actual word counts because I haven't looked at Hanahaki AU in a while, but I've been working on Dad Alex AU a lot lately, so that makes sense.
3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?
Hard to tell; it always is, at this point. The outline for Hanahaki AU is around 18k. Dad Alex's outline is about 10k. The sequel for It's Nice To Have A Friend is going to be long, too, but I'm nowhere near close to finished outlining that, yet. But the size of the outline doesn't necessarily indicate how long the fics themselves will be; it just means I included a lot of detail so I don't confuse myself when I get around to actually writing the scenes I have planned.
4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?
Currently, I'm really enjoying Dad Alex. It's not completely angst-free, but what angst is there is generally pretty quickly resolved, because I can't stand to draw out conflict and drama when there's a little kid involved. This AU is sort of my escape, right now; it's lighthearted and sweet, and that's exactly what I need, right now.
(I've also been enjoying writing my New Year's fic, but I literally just finished writing that, so it's not really a WIP anymore lmao)
5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?
Hanahaki 😂 it's a huge project, and so many people have been excited about it for so long, myself included, i'm worried that it won't live up to the hype that's been built up around it. Plus it's such an intense concept, sometimes I just sit and look at it like "oh my god, what the fuck" 💀 like yeah, it has a happy ending, but it takes sooo long to get there. I promise it will be worth it, though!
6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?
Maybe Single All The Way? Because I proposed that concept as a potential holiday fic idea and it won the poll I put out a couple months ago, and I do like it, but I ended up losing steam on it pretty quickly. I started thinking, am I doing this because I want to, or because everyone else wants me to?
It might have just been bad timing, there was some other life stuff going on around that time that kind of made me not want to work on the fic, but I haven't really looked at it since October.
7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?
I have a very lovely beta ( @44whispers muah 🥰) for Hanahaki AU! They also look over some of my other stuff from time to time, but most things I just edit myself lol. It's not like I don't have the time 😂
8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?
Oh, absolutely. Why do you think it's taken me this long to get started on the INTHAF sequel? Why do you think Hanahaki AU has taken this long? Why do you think I've posted three fics this year, none of which have been even remotely related to anything I was talking about beforehand? 😂
9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?
I don't think any of my WIPs have OCs yet... Alex will have an OC doctor in Hanahaki AU, of course, but I haven't picked a name for her yet because I haven't written any of her scenes. I think y'all will like her, though, she's absolutely not gonna take any of his shit.
...
oh my fucking god
ISA IS AN OC
DAD ALEX IS AN AU FOR A REASON
DO YOU EVER GET SO ATTACHED TO SOMETHING YOU'VE CREATED THAT YOU FORGET IT WASN'T PART OF THE ORIGINAL MATERIAL
I'm not editing that answer, that was a spectacular brain blip 🤣
10. Which WIP is the sexiest?
I still don't really write smut 😂 My New Year's fic is probably the sexiest thing I've written, and it's all still mostly implied. But, again... that's not a WIP anymore. It's just also not posted 😅 Other than that... the Paris fic or Oxford Boys might give it a try? Dad Alex AU will have a couple scenes where Henry and Alex get intimate, but that fic mostly focuses on family. The rest are either T or G, or too far into the hurt/comfort/whump categories to get too sexy 😅 (Though, in the case of Hanahaki, that's not for lack of trying on Alex's part.)
11. Which WIP is the angstiest?
Hanahaki. No question. The Rejection Sickness fics are gonna tug at your heartstrings, but they're not gonna drag it out nearly as much as Hanahaki.
12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?
Hmm... That's a good question tbh. Probably one of the longer ones, like Hanahaki or Dad Alex, but... characterization is one of the main things people compliment when they comment on my fics and there's no way to not make that sound like a flex 🤣
13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)?
I still don't know what this means 😅
14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?
Hanahaki, probably. It's been a few months since I've actively worked on it, but I have not forgotten how much effort I put into that outline, lmao. That was MONTHS of work, going back and forth with my beta, working out plot holes and having sudden middle-of-the-night realizations that I had figured out a scene that had been stumping me for weeks. That 40-page outline is a thing of beauty.
15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?
Currently... Probably Dad Alex 😂 Idk why, I feel like it should probably be Hanahaki, but... 🤷‍♀️ maybe it's because Dad Alex is a little easier to write?
16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?
Maybe sometimes. Just vaguely Firstprince-shaped dreams once in a while that bear resemblance to things I write about, which makes sense because the things I write about come from my brain and so do my dreams 😂
17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?
I mean, yeah, Hanahaki AU is complicated as fuck 🤣 So many things in that fic are like... none of this would have to happen if Alex made even slightly different choices, but he's Alex, so he doesn't.
18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?
Ooh! Maybe the "Loverboy Henry" fic. That's the one where he takes Alex on a date after Alex gets stood up, and Alex thinks he's just doing it to be nice but Henry is doing everything in his power to make Alex realize that it's a real date. It's miscommunication at it's finest and it's so ridiculous because everything Henry is doing to try to woo Alex is working but Alex thinks Henry is just being a good friend.
19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?
A couple of them will, yes! Hanahaki AU and Rejection Sickness AU and the childhood friends sequel will all at least briefly contain outsider POVs.
Edit because I somehow missed the second half of this question: Rejection Sickness prequel will focus a lot on Oscar having to face the consequences of his actions following the divorce, mending his relationship with his kids and earning back their trust.
20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs.
There's gonna be a scene in Oxford Boys where Henry has a drunk white girl "can I tell you a secret" moment and tells Alex he loves him but I haven't decided what happens the next morning 😅 Will Henry pretend he doesn't remember anything? Will he run away and ghost Alex? Will he confront his fears and talk it through? Who knows 🤷‍♀️ not me!
A tag per WIP
@affectionatelyrs, @cricketnationrise, @wordsofhoneydew, @songliili, @gay-flyboys
@anincompletelist, @gayrootvegetable, @everwitch-magiks, @hgejfmw-hgejhsf

hii hope you're doing okay
I loved your first work and since you're taking request can you write something about haechan being a tease with this prompts "i'm sorry what was that? i can't hear you over all that noise you're making" + "shut up and kiss me already"
🍒 - anon
pairing: lee donghyuck (haechan) x afab!reader
warnings: teasing, ice play
wc: 0.4k

author’s note: been having crazy writer’s block and life was kicking my ass for a bit but i’m pushing through! gonna make a wip page to keep more organised so thank you for bearing with me 😅
Tumblr media
It was stupidly hot. Opening the window just made it even worse as a sweltering flow of air entered the already warm room. With a defeated sigh you settled back on the couch, silently praying the battery of your handheld fan would last a little longer.
So of course Haechan, being the sweetheart that he is, enters the room with ice cream in one hand and an ice pack in the other.
Holding your hands out, you repeatedly grab at nothing until he places the items in them. You rapidly rip open the plastic of the chocolate coated vanilla ice cream, popping in your mouth before resting the ice pack between your cheek and shoulder with a sigh.
Haechan settles in the space next to you. Moving closer, you wince at the contact when his bare thigh touches yours, dreading the heat.
He doesn’t let up, lazily slinking his arm around your shoulder.
“It’s too hot.” You whine, shuffling in the opposite direction.
“Even for me?” He pouts with sad puppy dog eyes but you don’t let up, moving until the armrest of the sofa prevents you from going any further.
Taking advantage of your escape, Haechan swipes the ice pack and you glare in response.
“Give it back!” There’s no point trying to reach as he holds it over you defiantly, but you do it anyway.
“Ok.” Before you can even question how easy that was, Haechan runs the ice pack up your inner thigh, easing a gasp out your lips.
Still determined to not let him win, you repeat your words. “G-give it back.”
“But I have. Or do you want it here instead?” He gestures, suddenly moving the cold object under your tank top and up your stomach instead.
“It’s t—“ Haechan doesn’t even let you finish your sentence before he brings the pack dangerously close to the delicate skin of your chest. The drop in temperature is too much too quickly, making you throw your head back with a drawn out whine.
“I’m sorry what was that? I can’t hear you over all that noise you’re making.” He teases the edge of the frosty ice pack in circular motions around your nipple watching your breath hitch.
“It’s too cold!” Your free hand grips against his wrist desperately, but you make no attempt to stop his actions.
“But you said it was too hot just now.” He murmurs against your ear, parting your legs with the palm of his hand. “Changed your mind so soon?”
Continuing his torment he presses his lips down your jawline but never brings them where you need them the most.
Snapping, you run your fingers through his soft hair and pull him back, delighted at the sound he makes.
“Shut up and kiss me already.” He’s back to being under your spell as he eagerly crashes his lips against yours. You give in fully, wrapping your arms around his neck, not caring as your ice cream drops to the floor.

Defeating Protracted Writer's Block
Tumblr media
Sometimes we get a little stuck on a few words; that's normal. Sometimes we just don't feel like doing anything today and would rather roll around on the ground pretending to be a slug or perhaps a snail. Also normal. Very normal.
However, what do you do if your writer's block has gone on for days, weeks, months, years?? Well, you've got to make a plan to defeat the Block. Here are some suggestions I have developed.
Resist the urge to start something new.
Sit with the discomfort.
Give yourself grace.
Assess your overall life circumstances.
Read outside of your comfort zone.
Try a new hobby or activity.
Start over completely (in a new document).
Cannibalize the piece.
And at the end, I'll share some action points to sum up.
As always, I am not the end-all be-all of writing advice, maybe I'm wrong, maybe you have other suggestions, take what you like and leave the rest. Let's go.
Resist the urge to start something new.
I have discussed in another post why you should not have a million WIPs, with citations as to why having a million WIPs is not conducive to good writing processes, so I will not belabor the point.
Basically, the brain really only focuses on one thing at a time. The more projects you have going, the more scattered your focus is, and the less likely you will be to finish any of them.
I get that you might be bored with your WIP, but if you start a new project, you are exponentially less likely to actually finish it. Maybe you've given up on it totally, and that's fine, but if you did intend to get it done, then stick with it.
Any ideas you have can be set aside for later exploration; write them down and you can be assured that they're not going anywhere.
Sit with the discomfort.
One of the best things I have learned over my life, both in writing and overall, is to be okay being uncomfortable. This mostly comes to me regarding getting feedback on my work, but it also refers to being okay with having writer's block.
There's a skill that comes from knowing when you need to push through a bit of writer's block (which is typically just being unmotivated) and when you need to sit back on your heels and breathe. If you have thrown all your tools at the writer's block, such as turning off your phone or using Stimuwrite, and you're still stuck, then you need to accept that right now is not for writing.
Personally, I always get very anxious when I have writer's block. What if I just give up on the story completely? What if I'm just a bad writer and my inspiration has run out? What if I'll never be able to write anything ever again?
Then I remind myself that I have been writing since I was 7 and I have always come back to it, no matter how bad things have gotten in my life. Experience has shown that even if I take a break, I am almost certainly going to return to it because it's my longest-held and most well-developed skill.
In many cases, just acknowledging that I'm more anxious about the future of my craft rather than this particular story is enough to get me to calm down, and by releasing that mental finger-trap, I start to feel inspired again.
Accept and acknowledge the writer's block. Recognize that it's there. Don't avoid it. Simply let it be there for the moment.
Give yourself grace.
Creatives can be really hard on themselves, especially in a world that is constantly pushing us to develop content as soon as possible. We think that if we don't put out a story every week, no one will care about us anymore and we'll be forgotten. Algorithms have started to infest our brains and change our self-image into a "content creator" instead of a writer, artist, musician, and so on.
But these algos were not created by creative people. They were developed by tech bros who do not understand the process of producing something unique.
Downtime is part of being creative, just like rest days are part of being an athlete. Your brain needs time to decompress, relax, and mull over story ideas. No one would force a marathon runner to set out on another cross-country trek just days after completing their last one because their muscles would explode.
If you don't have a looming deadline, relax. Be gentle to yourself. Let yourself loll around and pretend to be a snail. Freeing your mind of that anxiety can, paradoxically, make you want to work again.
Assess your overall life circumstances.
In addition to my controversial beliefs about not starting a million WIPs, I also do not ascribe to the myth of the martyr artist. I covered that in more detail at the link, but basically, being depressed and stressed out does not actually make you more creative, no matter what you think. Not only does that post explain the science behind it, but it shows you some examples of my own writing done during different stages of bipolar disorder: manic, depressed, and stable.
I don't care what any starving artists say. As someone with a severe mental illness, I can confidently tell you that being unstable is not good for creativity. Your brain is under stress, and it doesn't have the metabolism necessary to produce great work.
But this does not just stand for having a severe mental illness like bipolar disorder; it can also refer to just overall shitty life circumstances, like being stuck in a bad job or having toxic people around you.
Sometimes a dip in productivity can actually be the sign you need that there's something awry elsewhere, something you may not even noticed was wrong. As such, when you're feeling The Block, sit down and think about your life circumstances. Are you happy? Are you financially stable? Are the people around you supportive and kind? Are you getting enough food to eat? Do you have regular healthcare?
Of course, sometimes you will face protracted life circumstances that are inconducive to creative activity, and there is nothing you can do about it. I'm not saying that if you're in a bad place, you should just stop writing - not at all. We'd be missing half the literary canon if that were the case.
But. If you are facing challenges, and you're feeling blocked, and you have the means to take care of those things, by all means do. Take care of your life stuff. The writing can wait. You as a person are much more important than what you produce. You deserve to be happy and healthy and well taken care of.
If you are facing challenges, and feeling blocked, and you can't take care of those things, then please give yourself grace. Be kind to yourself. Take it slow. Do just as much as you can and no more. Ask for grace from others if you need to. Again, you as a person are always, always more important than what you produce.
Read outside of your comfort zone.
In addition to writing The Eirenic Verses, I am a freelance SEO writer who mostly writes stuff about real estate and personal injury. You'd be surprised at how much inspiration I get from the boring stuff that I have to write for work! I'm serious - these obnoxiously dry statistics and such have helped me immensely in my creative fiction.
For example, there's a scene in one of the upcoming books where the MC falls down a cliff. I would not have even considered including that if it weren't for writing personal injury articles about construction accidents. I also got inspiration for the main theme of book 8 in the series, Perseity, after writing about real estate probate. I'm serious!
Sometimes, nonfiction like that can kickstart your creative process more than fiction because you won't just be copying the themes or ideas included in whatever you're currently reading. I recommend that you read fiction for things like dialogue, interesting words to use, and so on, but nonfiction for the actual story ideas. After all, life is frequently stranger than fiction. You never know what you'll find in there.
Try a new hobby or activity.
We, of course, use our brains to write, and our brains are always eager for new inputs. The more that you expose yourself to interesting things, whether that's going on a short daytrip or trying out a new skill, the more neurogenesis that occurs and the more metabolic activity going on up there. And we want neurogenesis and good metabolic activity.
If you're really struggling to write, step away from the computer and do something new. It could be anything, but at the bare minimum, it must make you feel like an idiot who does not know what they are doing. It must make you have to try new movements, or apply old knowledge in new ways, or go to somewhere you've never been before and don't know the layout of. This shakes you out of your old patterns of behavior and forces you to shift your understandings of how things work, which can give you new perspectives on your work.
Start over completely (in a new document).
I will only touch on this briefly because I don't use it, but I know other people have had success with it. Basically, you begin all the way over again, writing it as you would have from the beginning. Not copying and pasting, but typing it all over again.
Sometimes (or so I have been told), this helps you recognize where things are going wrong and workshop solutions as you go along. Many also use this for editing when they are done, as it helps you catch typos you wouldn't have noticed otherwise.
Cannibalize the piece.
If you are really stuck, fed-up, angry, and don't think you can bear to go on, then don't! Unless you've already promised this work to someone or you're doing this for pay, there's no rule that you have to finish everything you start.
But no writing is ever wasted. There is likely the seeds of something good in there that you can recycle. It may be really good phrases, ideas, characters, locations, dialogue, whatever. But there is something good in every single piece, no matter how down you are feeling about it right now.
I've given up on a ton of pieces, but I often find echoes of them in later works, even if I never copy-pasted anything. That's because it was still practice - I was still learning and growing as a writer. The only way to improve is to keep going forward, but that does not mean you have to beat a dead horse. Chop it up and feed it to your next piece so you have the strength to continue.
Action points for beating protracted writer's block
Don't start a new WIP unless you have completely given up on this one. If you get story ideas for something else, write them down but don't start them. Allow yourself to have writer's block: unless you have a deadline, the writing will still be there. Recognize that much of writer's block is about anxiety about your skills rather than a true creative stop. Remove the "content creator" curse that tells you that you must be working 24/7. Consider downtime to be part of the creative process, just like athletes need to rest. Remind yourself of how many other times you have have writer's block and the fact that you were able to get over it that time too. Assess your overall life circumstances and consider whether your writer's block is a symptom of something bigger. Prioritize self-care rather than attempting to be a martyr for your art. Read something you wouldn't usually in order to broaden your horizons. Consider reading nonfiction for story ideas and fiction for specific craft inspiration. Do a new hobby, especially one that is completely out of your comfort zone. Rewrite the entire piece in a new document. Take pieces from the old work and start something new if you have fully declared it dead.
If you enjoyed this, maybe you'll consider purchasing my gay fantasy romance, 9 Years Yearning. This coming-of-age story features two young soldiers in a world lightly inspired by the Mongolian steppes, infused with poetry magic and literary mythology.
