while I do like the added dialogue between Sally and Percy in the minotaur scene, namely Sally's speech to Percy telling him to hold fast, I really wish the scene had more of the urgency that it did in the book. Like Grover's heavily injured to the point of incoherency, Sally and Percy literally have to drag him up the hill, and that's when they're overtaken by the minotaur. In the show, having them all come to a grinding standstill and Grover being fully alert like "sorry I know we're being chased by certain death but your mom's human so she can't come :/" was kind of adflksadfjasdf
oh and in the book Percy doesn't immediately pass out. Instead, Percy doesn't let himself until he's hauled Grover over the boundary line and all the way to the big house because he needs help and it's only then does Percy finally collapse. and idk just the imagery of it all -- Percy crying for help, for his mother -- it always stuck with me and I wish they hadn't taken it out.

Luke, trying to 'pick up Percy early from school for a doctor appointement' :
The secretary : "Who did you say you were for him already?"
Luke, knowing full well he's way too young to be his dad and don't look like him at all except a little something in the smile but still having to actively battle himself to not call himself his father :
Luke tries to pull this at the hippie school Percy goes to in the second book. The receptionist 100% believes whatever lie he said, but Luke is foiled by Tyson.
Meanwhile, Percy learns that Tyson is a cyclopes early because Luke tries to decapitate him while screaming at Tyson to get away from Percy.

Do you guys have any favorite space or space-adjacent documentaries? Some of my favorites so far are A Trip to Infinity and Black Holes: The Edge of All We Know bc I really like the philosophical type stuff. But I would love to hear any recommendations for what to watch next ☺️

Students, poets, lads, etc.,
I will be sharing your next assignment here, and will share prompts intermittently to encourage writing out of the classroom. This is not required, but extra points will be added to the grade of whoever chooses to participate.
Your prompt for this first assignment is to write a poem or adjacent piece of writing about/ for your favorite person. This doesn't have to be about a fellow classmate, student, or even a human, just someone that you love more than anyone else. It is not imperative that you reveal who the subject of your work is, but if you feel it's important to the piece, please do so!
If you need a point of inspiration or an example to reference if you're stuck, I've provided a poem I wrote not too long ago. You can do something similar, or something wildly different, whatever feels right to you.
Everything Sings
Earl gray graces the sleep-filled soul,
joined by the echoes of a kettle's sweetly strung note,
and the familiar pang of the carillon's morning hymnals.
Myths of Genesis's flood remain reminiscent of a choir I know well,
this ark of Noah's reduced to a mere vessel for God and His ballads I dedicated to you.
John Charles Keating
Good luck boys, I look forward to seeing what you all create.
Best,
Mr Keating
PS. Those of you who are not students of mine are more than welcome to participate!

Favorite part of TIT Tysons n2 so far is the entire crowd shouting COCK for Dr Phil’s favorite word and Dan desperately trying to cover it, only for whoever’s typing to keep writing it so it ended up being COCK COCK COCK COCK four times 😭

Jake Paul really won against Mike Tyson huh?
it was the most disgustingly staged fight I’ve ever witnessed, no way Iron Mike just stood there like that - fuck off

pjo s2 has the opportunity to make such a good comment on ableism in gen z. like as someone who was in high school hearing the r slur or “sped” or “acoustic” used so casually in so many places, i would actually break down crying if they got matt sloan to call tyson like “sped” and then see annabeth absolutely wreck his shit. i’d cheer so hard. the heroes of this story are disabled, the point of the original series was to create neurodivergent representation for kids, and it feels so so so necessary.

Friendly reminder!!!
A tear welled up in his eye. “Sphinx on Seventy-second Street. Big bully. I prayed to Daddy for help. Soon the people at Meriweather found me. Met you. Biggest blessing ever. Sorry I said Poseidon was mean. He sent me a brother.”

Note
they cast a 28 year old for Tyson 💀
[relevant rants: here and here]
yeah, i saw - i wasn't holding onto hope of them casting a disabled actor for Tyson (still disappointed, just not surprised) but casting a 28 year old for a middle schooler is really out of left field. It's just an odd choice? Particularly given how much they've been emphasizing age-accurate casting so far.
It makes me really wonder what major rewrites they have planned for Tyson's character. Because as things stand currently there's no way to make Tyson's existing character work with this casting. Tyson is supposed to be in Percy's grade, but Daniel Diemer sticks out like a sore thumb against the child actors. Tyson being in Percy's grade is pretty important for the entire arc of Sea of Monsters with the main character arc being Percy combating internalized ableism and establishing him as a character who stands up for other marginalized kids. If they remove that, what's Percy's arc going to be for that entire season? At what point are they going to establish that about his character? Or are they just going to exposition it at us like usual with nothing backing it up and no actual character progression? And in later seasons the age gap is only going to be more prominent - like how is Tyson going to work in BoTL or TLO? Are they planning on removing his character entirely for those scenes? Are they going to remove him as a recurring character in general? It'd be really weird if they killed him off or something.
I'm also afraid for if they do try to keep Tyson's disability coding in some form - cause there's kind of no good way it can go at this point. Either they completely erase Tyson's coding because they cast an abled actor for him and that messes up the entire arc of the book and his character particularly in relation to Percy, or they have an abled actor attempt to portray a character heavily coded as having down syndrome (and i believe they're already doing similar with iirc Chiron's actor is abled but they're doubling-down in the show on Chiron being disabled) and given how they've written the neurodivergence themes (or absence there of) in the show so far there's just no way that'd end well. Like, Tyson's characterization is a little questionable to begin with in the books, but given the show's writing so far it just feels like we're very rapidly ramping up for an extremely ableist characterization of Tyson. Like i'm sure Daniel Diemer is a great actor, but... i'm just getting real tired of the show erasing the entire premise of the series :T
anyways as per my initial post about pjo tv tyson casting theories i guess it's time for me to start tearing stuff apart with my teeth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
